signatures along with pickup, delivery, and time card information. UPS s information systems use
these data to track packages while they are being transported. The result is an information system
solution to the business challenge of providing a high level of service with low prices in the face of
mounting competition.

The Force In The When Luke s Death Star
The force may be the biggest factor in all of the movies. The substance to all life in the universe is
permeated through this energy field called the Force. The force serves as the ultimate control of life
and power. Major characters Ben and Yoda try to teach young Luke Skywalker, the biggest character
in the trilogy, the power and significance of controlling the Force for the good. The Force is what

The Era Of The Common Man
The Jacksonian period has been regarded as the era of the common man , this characterization only
holds true in regard to politics. Jackson s action in economic development was little different from
when this era began. His view towards reforms were threatening and unwanting. Jackson was
relentless in his strive for presidency. Jackson lost his first presidential run to John Quincy Adams in
1824 despite having the popular and electoral votes. The Jacksonians (supporters of Jackson) called
this event the Corrupt Bargain due to Henry Clay support of Adams after he was out of the race.
Jackson won the following election in 1828, after a war of words were exchanged between supporters
of Jackson and Adams. The Jacksonians accused Adams of being wasteful with money, while Adams
supporters accused Jackson of being a murderer in the war of 1812 and called his wife a bigamist.
These accusations got to Rachel and weeks later she passed. Nonetheless, this was still a victory for
the new Democratic Republicans against the National Republicans. Politically, the age of Jackson was
a triumph for the common man since politics were more open. Before Jackson politics were only
indulged in by aristocrats and elites; With Jackson it was open to all white male citizens. It has also be
noted that before Jackson came into office that there was expansion in voting with Ohio and other new
western states. These new constitutions made older states conform to their laws due to the fear of

Mexican Restaurant Research Paper
Best Authentic Mexican Restaurants in Little Rock
Everyone has their own favorite type of cuisine. Common favorites range from American, to Italian, to
Chinese, and for me, Mexican. I spent one year in Arkansas at Little Rock and found the best Mexican
restaurant in the area. Currently, I have tried eight different Mexican restaurants, which include both
Tex Mex and Authentic Mexican Restaurants. I picked my top four favorite authentic Mexican
restaurants to review and critique based on price, menu, service, house salsa, and appearance to help
peoples, as future customers, decide which restaurant is the best choice for them.
For all four restaurants none of them are entirely overpriced. In terms of bang, buck Riviera Maya is
best option. He/she pay $8 $9 for a quality burrito that he/she can only finish about half of. Taqueria
Karina Cafe is pricier, but for the amount of food a person get and how fantastic the quality is, it is
worth the few extra dollars compared to the other restaurants. Senor Tequilas is very cheap, but the
customers pay for what they get which is a smaller portion of food at a lower quality. Lastly, El Porton
was $8 for a 6 inch quesadilla which I would ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

was going to taste heavenly, just by how full and even overflowing the plates were. El Porton knows
how to spice up a website to attract customers, but do not let fool the customers. The food does not

Film Contributions of the Sixties Essay
Film Contributions of the Sixties Beginning roughly with the release of Stanley Kubrick s Dr.
Strangelove: Or How I Stopped Worrying and Loved the Bomb in 1964, and continuing for about the
next decade, the Sixties era of filmmaking made many lasting impressions on the motion picture
industry. Although editing and pacing styles varied greatly from Martin Scorcesse s hyperactive pace,
to Kubrick s slow methodical pace, there were many uniform contributions made by some of the era s
seminal directors. In particular, the Sixties saw the return of the auteur, as people like Francis Ford
Coppola and Stanley Kubrick wrote and directed their own screenplays, while Woody Allen wrote,
directed and starred in his own films. Kubrick, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These sequences are a result of a film, which for most of its run time does not presented the subjective
vision of any one character. In stylistic and visual terms, there is a movement from the three
dimensional style of the film s first half to the flatter, more abstract visual style of the Star Gate
sequence. The film s movement towards abstraction can be understood both in visual and narrative
terms (Falsetto, 115).
2001 s presentation of details from the Dawn of Man sequence, to later space travel scenes are shot
with complete conviction and impeccable detail. The viewer believes that the world might have
actually looked like what Kubrick presented it as, several million years ago, and the depiction of space
travel is just as convincing. The use of models, front projection, the slow editing techniques and
camera work all help to create a more complete illusion (Falsetto, 141).
If 2001 was presented almost completely objectively, than Kubrick s next film, A Clockwork Orange
(1972) was presented almost completely subjectively. This may have been in part due to the
constraints of the original novel by William Burgess, but nonetheless the film is told from the point of
view of its central character, Alex. When Alex is not speaking on camera, he can often be heard as a

A Pirate Played By Johnny Depp

trickster character. After looking at several cultures, I have learned the trickster s able to teach lessons
through the mistakes he makes, is a unique, but effective form of teaching. From the Hawaiian islands
there is a trickster figure called Māui, from our readings we learned about the Winnebago trickster,
and even a different form of a trickster character, but can relate to the tricksters we have read about,
Jack Sparrow a pirate played by Johnny Depp from a popular Walt Disney movie called Pirates and
the Caribbean. Despite the differences between the trickster figures being from very different settings,
these characters all very similar to each other. You may ask, how can you possibly relate or define
Jack Sparrow as a trickster character? Well, Jack Sparrow embodies everything a trickster character
should. Sparrow is very witty and often finds himself in dangerous situations. These are often the
highlights of the movie and they often portray mistakes Sparrow made and how these mistakes are
going to affect him. However, it is a movie, so they always have Sparrow escape barely. From these
mistakes, the viewers of the movie learn what Sparrow did wrong and possible ways he could have
fixed this mistake or avoided the situation entirely. A specific example from the first Pirates of the

Declaration Of Rights Of Man And Citizen Essay
Are all humans truly free and entitled to their rights? One major problem that is generated by the
Declarations of Rights of Man and Citizens is the reason the text was written, which is to prevent
public disputes by protecting the rights of man and the citizen (Declaration of the Rights of Man,
1789). Although this text has done a good job of protecting human rights, some improvements must be
made. In 1789, the language used in the text would have worked but in todays society it is conflicting
because it does not necessarily protect the rights of all people such as the LBGTQ community.
Resulting in people of such communities not feeling protected leaving them to question these rights.
The important problem with the Declaration of Rights of Man and Citizen is it does not do its job of
protecting all people with the written rights. The issues with the Declaration of Rights of Man and
Citizen can hopefully be resolved by simply rewriting these rights to better fit all human beings. ...

In the text it states, Ignorance, neglect, or contempt of the rights of man are the sole cause of public
calamities and of the corruption of governments, (Declaration of the Rights of Man, 1789). The
solution to this problem was to give rights to humans essentially giving them freedom, which is what
they wanted, hopefully ending public disputes and corruption of governments (Declaration of the
Rights of Man, 1789). In 1789 it is possible that something like this could have worked but these
rights no longer protect all human beings. There are many movements today which cause public
disputes simply because people feel restricted from being themselves because these rights do not
apply to them. This has now become a problem that the world faces

Causes Of The Indian Mutiny
The Indian Mutiny, also known as the Indian Revolt, was a war between the Indians and the British.
Basically the war was due to the prolonged British occupation over the land of the Indians. The war
was the first war that the Indians fought over their independence and the Sepoy Mutiny. The British
launched their presence in India during the 17th century. This was at the part time of the Mogul
empire. At this period of time, the territory of Bombay had just been acquired by the East India
Company which had over the years expanded its territory. The company had a strong army which
eventually took out the French after the Battle of Plassey, 1757, hundred years earlier. The army of the
Indian soldiers was compromised of British soldiers who acted as the commanders. They were called
sepoys. This war was propelled by several causes and eventually resulted to several consequences. We
shall start by looking into the causes. These causes were mainly as a result of the policy of
westernization.
Introduction of the British Doctrine of Lapse
This was basically a doctrine that placed rules on inheritance of power and land. It offered permission
to the British empire allowing them to be able to expand their empirical domain. This expansion was
supposed to be carried out at the expense of the Indian Princes. It was by forbidding persons who were
not natural heirs from inheriting any state. The policy was also extended to princely titles and
pensions. States that eventually lapsed into

The Colonization Of North America Essay
During the sixteenth century European pilgrims migrated across the Atlantic Ocean to settle in North
America. North America had just been introduced to the Western Civilization. The America s were
home to the indigenous people, that were made up of several tribes that were called Indians by the
early settlers. Together the Indians and settlers began to thrive. Growth and development in the new
world was made possible by the abundant amount of natural resources. These early settlers had a
major influence on the joining of these two cultures. Settlers started to inhabit and populate along the
east coast and moving north and south. They began organising into colonies and called themselves

possible in the colonist previous civilization. Colonist were also free to decide how they wanted to

the colonist were so enthusiastic because they got to worship how they wanted. They were finally able
to practice and believe in God to their best understanding. For centuries very few people have had this

this new life style. During the 1700s there began to be uneasiness and frustration amongst the colonist.
Much of the frustration grew because of the unfair dominion that

Essay on Summer Reading
To follow a life of success, happiness, and fulfillment will always begin by observing ourselves, from
finding inner peace, figuring out your purpose, and pursuing it through hard work with the passion to
commit in to our goal that will shape up our life. Without persistence and hard work it is impossible to
succeed. A life without direction could lead to a path of uncertainty and without contentment. Also a
life without inner peace is a life without true happiness. To follow a life of success, happiness, and

Have you ever felt that as you become developed and enlightened as your life progress you still felt
that something is missing? As for what Guy Montag felt from Ray Bradbury s novel Fahrenheit 451,
having a complete life and a honorable profession as a fireman (burns books), he felt that there is
something missing in his life, it is the books that his society wanted to be burned out, he finally found
his true purpose, it is to memorize the books he have read to rewrite it in to their future for the good of
humanity along with other book people. Learning that we must have a purpose that we need to realize
it and achieve it. Our true purpose is to follow what we want to do, not to try to fit in other s mask but
to only wear our own; it is to find out our own dream and goals to start our own journey towards
success, happiness, and fulfillment in life. Once we figure out what we really want to do, we find
ourselves to feel that we are going to the right direction and know that once we get to our destination
we will be satisfied in life with clarity. To be contented in life we must discover what we really desired
to do, it is also essential to find our happiness. Living the life today has always been difficult as for
waking up early in the morning to go to work or school, arguments with a stranger or sibling, or just

Racial Minorities In Theatre
In my English 104 class, we are discussing the theme of exploring the margins. My group will study
the representation of racial minorities in the modern world. I decided to go to the theatre to look into
the lack of representation and the misrepresentation of race. Do people of other races feel like they
have a limited amount of roles to choose from? Do people of other races feel as though they have to
act and look more Caucasian to land classic roles? Does color blind casting change the experience for
the audience? How are many different racial minorities not stereotypically represented? What is being
done to solve this issue? I will also discuss who is affected by this issue and what that may mean for
them. I will argue the possible solutions to increase the representation in theatre. I will refer to the
research I have done on the subject. I will reference Theatre Topics, the Canadian Theatre Review,
Applied Theatre Research, and Theatre Research International. Stereotyping in theatre is a universal
issue for all marginalized actors. This is an important topic to research if you are a part of the theatre
community. To work toward a more equal and accurate representation of the world, the theatre
community needs everyone to work together.
Hi, I am Caroline Koby. I am a Sophomore undergraduate student at Ball State University and today I
ll be talking about the lack of representation of racial minorities in theatre. I will also discuss who is

Factors That Affect Our Soil Quality And Increase Som Is...
From a practical point of view, anionic polyacrylamide (PAM) has been commonly used as a soil
conditioner to reduce erosion by clay flocculation and binding particles and stabilizing the outer
aggregate surfaces. Moreover, PAM is highly resistant to microbial degradation, with a decomposition
rate of ∌10% yr 1, which has led to its efficient use as a soil conditioner for long periods. Wu et al.
(2012) revealed that PAM showed a minor effect on 14C allocation in plant parts and soil in a short
term 14C labeling study. Except the observations of PAM biotransformation, little information is
available on the PAM efficiency on the microbial activity in soils. In contrast, the agronomic benefits
of biochar (BC) application to improve soil quality and increase SOM is growing. Applying BC
improves the physicochemical properties of soil and maintains C and N sources, owing to a
pronounced increase in plant growth and yield. Moreover, wood biochar decreased the soil bulk
density and enlarged diameter of aggregates, thereby reducing soil loss. However, little is known
about the effect of BC on soil microbial populations and activities. BC or PAM showed minor effect
on the decomposition of SOM based on CO2 evolution because of the stability of these conditioners.
A high portion of 14C maize residues were stabilized in the soil after adding BC and PAM as the
binders by the occlusion of labile residue C into aggregates. Understanding the short term dynamics of
C caused by PAM or BC is

Coal Vs Nuclear Energy Essay
Nuclear energy is much better than other sources of energy for many reasons. It is cheaper long term
than renewable energy, like wind turbines and solar power, safer than coal and has minimal
atmospheric contamination. It is also much more efficient than coal, and genetic risks are minimal.
The cancer risk increase of nuclear energy is next to nothing; it is only .002%, shortening life
expectancies by less than one hour. First, nuclear energy is safer than coal. To be as dangerous as coal
pollution, there would have to be about 25 nuclear meltdowns every year. That is more that twice a

or by a man wearing pants for 8 hours more per year. There has only been one incident that has
seriously affected the cancer risk in the area. Most radiological injuries/deaths each year are due to
large, uncontrolled radiation sources. Some may say that nuclear energy is bad solely based off of
what they know about the infamous Chernobyl. However, Chernobyl should never have happened. In
a rush to provide power and test nuclear energy, the Soviets made a poorly built excuse for a nuclear
power plant. Due to human error and lack of a containment center, Chernobyl was an exception to a
rather safe way of producing energy. Also, people may feel strongly against nuclear energy because of
the risks that spent fuel rods propose. However, the advances in storing these fuel rods have
minimized the problem. Concrete and steel structures are built to store fuel rods that have cooled

According to research conducted by the World Federation of the Deaf, only two percent of the world s
population has access to education in sign language. Many parents of Deaf or hard of hearing children
struggle with the decision of choosing the right approach to language for their child. Unfortunately,
many of these parents choose to deny their children an accessible language, and instead force them to
learn a spoken language first. The Nyle DiMarco Foundation and the National Association of the Deaf

Reaction Paper On Robespierre
During the period of The French Revolution, Maximilien Robespierre, French lawyer and politician,
was probably one of the most influential and well known figures. I selected him because I found his
personality interesting, and wanted to know more about him. To this day, among historians,
Robespierre is a very controversial figure. Some support his actions during the Reign of Terror, while
others do not. Furthermore, in his early days as a politician, he was known as The Incorruptible due
his strict moral values and ideas, yet, during the Reign of Terror, he was responsible for the executions
of thousands. I found the contrast between his two ideologies really shocking, and wanted to know

French Revolution (1911), he wrote that Robespierre was a fanatic , who to establish his authority
over men s minds, was ready, if necessary, to pass over the dead bodies of his opponents . On the other
hand, historians such as George Rudé and Albert Soboul support Robespierre s decisions. In Rudé s
opinion, Robespierre was not a ruthless killer, but instead a competent judge, able to differentiate
between the counter revolutionaries and those who had just been misguided. Historian Mathiez has
gone as far as relieving Robespierre of any blame by saying that he was a victim of his time . The

Essay Comparing Lady Of Shalott And Aurora Leigh
The Victorian Age was a period of development and redefining social conventions. Throughout the
chaos enveloping the changing world, literature from the time period reveals profound concepts which
aligns with the dynamic reinvention of societal constructs. Literature from the Victorian Era addresses
the importance of art, staging it as a hindrance or benefit to society. Antagonistic views referring to the
representation of art reflects the confusion and controversy of the time. The poem, The Lady of

In The Lady of Shalott, Tennyson characterizes art as being a restrictive force, acting against
individual desires. In the poem, the Lady s dwelling place is described as, Four gray walls, and four
grapy towers (Tennyson 15), where she is forced to reside in solitude. The poem reads, Only reapers,
reaping early / In among the bearded barley, / Hear a song that echoes cheerly (Tennyson 28 30). The
Lady s isolation, underlined by her ambiguity and lack of interaction with the external world,
authenticates her imprisonment, and furthermore poses her artwork as the oppressor. The poem
therefore suggests that art is restrictive, for the Lady of Shalott is secluded in a hidden tower and
deserted from the rest of mankind against her wishes, as she claims she is half sick of shadows
(Tennyson 71). Having the Lady s artwork confine her to the tower depicts art as a form of
punishment over those creating it. Therefore, Tennyson s The Lady of Shalott displays art as an
essential asset to enforce accepted conventional beliefs, supporting the ideology that art inevitably
separates individuals from society, and their own

3.2.1 The portrayal of men in films
There are a variety of men portrayed in modern films: ranging from the most common manly man to
the goofball to the slowly emerging more sensitive man: one who is more comfortable with
stereotypically female emotions such as sadness. Men in films such as The Hangover fall into the lad
category, characterized by their immaturity, and adolescent behavior (Moore 1998:209). Men are also
portrayed as the warrior , or hero in films such as Saving Private Ryan , or San Andreas respectively.

the negative light it shines on women.

The Footsteps Of Beethoven s Final Symphony
I understood the essence of this quote after watching the film Following the Ninth: In the Footsteps of
Beethoven s Final Symphony. It is a very powerful film that illustrates the impact of Beethoven s
Ninth Symphony on individuals from different places in the world. This film is not the type of
documentary that I expected. It is one of the best film that I saw. Following the Ninth presents the
significance of humanity. The director, Kerry Candaele acknowledged that it was the third movement
of Beethoven s final symphony that drew him into Beethoven s world. For me, Beethoven s last
symphony has the spiritual power that lifts you up when you re down. The impact of Beethoven s the
Ninth is so powerful that the director stated that Beethoven s symphony had reached me where it hurt.
The director s interest in Beethoven started when he first listened to his last symphony in an afternoon

interest in Beethoven s last symphony into a film. China, Berlin, Chile, and Japan were the countries

that Beethoven s Ninth has had a lasting political presence in the 186 years since its first performance,

Jackson s action in economic development was little different from when this era began. His view towards reforms were threatening and unwanting. Jackson was relentless in his strive for presidency. Jackson lost his first presidential run to John Quincy Adams in 1824 despite having the popular and electoral votes. The Jacksonians (supporters of Jackson) called this event the Corrupt Bargain due to Henry Clay support of Adams after he was out of the race. Jackson won the following election in 1828, after a war of words were exchanged between supporters of Jackson and Adams. Film Contributions of the Sixties Essay Film Contributions of the Sixties Beginning roughly with the release of Stanley Kubrick s Dr. Strangelove: Or How I Stopped Worrying and Loved the Bomb in 1964, and continuing for about the next decade, the Sixties era of filmmaking made many lasting impressions on the motion picture industry. Although editing and pacing styles varied greatly from Martin Scorcesse s hyperactive pace, to Kubrick s slow methodical pace, there were many uniform contributions made by some of the era s seminal directors. In particular, the Sixties saw the return of the auteur, as people like Francis Ford Coppola and Stanley Kubrick wrote and directed their own screenplays, while Woody Allen wrote, directed and starred in his own films. In stylistic and visual terms, there is a movement from the three dimensional style of the film s first half to the flatter, more abstract visual style of the Star Gate sequence. The film s movement towards abstraction can be understood both in visual and narrative terms (Falsetto, 115). 2001 s presentation of details from the Dawn of Man sequence, to later space travel scenes are shot with complete conviction and impeccable detail. The viewer believes that the world might have actually looked like what Kubrick presented it as, several million years ago, and the depiction of space travel is just as convincing. The use of models, front projection, the slow editing techniques and camera work all help to create a more complete illusion (Falsetto, 141). If 2001 was presented almost completely objectively, than Kubrick s next film, A Clockwork Orange (1972) was presented almost completely subjectively. This may have been in part due to the constraints of the original novel by William Burgess, but nonetheless the film is told from the point of view of its central character, Alex. From the Hawaiian islands there is a trickster figure called Māui, from our readings we learned about the Winnebago trickster, and even a different form of a trickster character, but can relate to the tricksters we have read about, Jack Sparrow a pirate played by Johnny Depp from a popular Walt Disney movie called Pirates and the Caribbean. Despite the differences between the trickster figures being from very different settings, these characters all very similar to each other. You may ask, how can you possibly relate or define Jack Sparrow as a trickster character? Well, Jack Sparrow embodies everything a trickster character should. Sparrow is very witty and often finds himself in dangerous situations. These are often the highlights of the movie and they often portray mistakes Sparrow made and how these mistakes are going to affect him. One major problem that is generated by the Declarations of Rights of Man and Citizens is the reason the text was written, which is to prevent public disputes by protecting the rights of man and the citizen (Declaration of the Rights of Man, 1789). Although this text has done a good job of protecting human rights, some improvements must be made. In 1789, the language used in the text would have worked but in todays society it is conflicting because it does not necessarily protect the rights of all people such as the LBGTQ community. Resulting in people of such communities not feeling protected leaving them to question these rights. The British launched their presence in India during the 17th century. This was at the part time of the Mogul empire. At this period of time, the territory of Bombay had just been acquired by the East India Company which had over the years expanded its territory. The company had a strong army which eventually took out the French after the Battle of Plassey, 1757, hundred years earlier. The army of the Indian soldiers was compromised of British soldiers who acted as the commanders. They were called sepoys. This war was propelled by several causes and eventually resulted to several consequences. We shall start by looking into the causes. These causes were mainly as a result of the policy of westernization. Introduction of the British Doctrine of Lapse This was basically a doctrine that placed rules on inheritance of power and land. It offered permission to the British empire allowing them to be able to expand their empirical domain. This expansion was supposed to be carried out at the expense of the Indian Princes. It was by forbidding persons who were not natural heirs from inheriting any state. The policy was also extended to princely titles and pensions. States that eventually lapsed into ... North America had just been introduced to the Western Civilization. The America s were home to the indigenous people, that were made up of several tribes that were called Indians by the early settlers. Together the Indians and settlers began to thrive. Growth and development in the new world was made possible by the abundant amount of natural resources. These early settlers had a major influence on the joining of these two cultures. Settlers started to inhabit and populate along the east coast and moving north and south. They began organising into colonies and called themselves colonist. Colonist enjoyed freedoms and opportunities that they never had. Owning land was never possible in the colonist previous civilization. Colonist were also free to decide how they wanted to make a living unlike the peasant life that many of them had known before. One of the biggest reasons the colonist were so enthusiastic because they got to worship how they wanted. They were finally able to practice and believe in God to their best understanding. For centuries very few people have had this right, to worship as they desire. One can see why the colonist lived with so much passion and pride in this new life style. From a practical point of view, anionic polyacrylamide (PAM) has been commonly used as a soil conditioner to reduce erosion by clay flocculation and binding particles and stabilizing the outer aggregate surfaces. Moreover, PAM is highly resistant to microbial degradation, with a decomposition rate of ∌10% yr 1, which has led to its efficient use as a soil conditioner for long periods. Wu et al. (2012) revealed that PAM showed a minor effect on 14C allocation in plant parts and soil in a short term 14C labeling study. Except the observations of PAM biotransformation, little information is available on the PAM efficiency on the microbial activity in soils. In contrast, the agronomic benefits of biochar (BC) application to improve soil quality and increase SOM is growing. Applying BC improves the physicochemical properties of soil and maintains C and N sources, owing to a pronounced increase in plant growth and yield. Moreover, wood biochar decreased the soil bulk density and enlarged diameter of aggregates, thereby reducing soil loss. However, little is known about the effect of BC on soil microbial populations and activities. BC or PAM showed minor effect on the decomposition of SOM based on CO2 evolution because of the stability of these conditioners. A high portion of 14C maize residues were stabilized in the soil after adding BC and PAM as the binders by the occlusion of labile residue C into aggregates. Furthermore, in his early days as a politician, he was known as The Incorruptible due his strict moral values and ideas, yet, during the Reign of Terror, he was responsible for the executions of thousands. I found the contrast between his two ideologies really shocking, and wanted to know more about historians perspective of him, so I decided to research and do this project on Robespierre. Historians such as FouchĂ© and Merlin think of Robespierre as a bloodthirsty tyrant . FouchĂ© said, he (Robespierre) had an unquenchable thirst for the blood of his colleagues . Historian, Peter Kropotkin also has a similar view of Robespierre. In his book, Great French Revolution (1911), he wrote that Robespierre was a fanatic , who to establish his authority over men s minds, was ready, if necessary, to pass over the dead bodies of his opponents . On the other hand, historians such as George RudĂ© and Albert Soboul support Robespierre s decisions. In RudĂ© s opinion, Robespierre was not a ruthless killer, but instead a competent judge, able to differentiate between the counter revolutionaries and those who had just been misguided. Historian Mathiez has gone as far as relieving Robespierre of any blame by saying that he was a victim of his time . • 33. Essay Comparing Lady Of Shalott And Aurora Leigh The Victorian Age was a period of development and redefining social conventions. Throughout the chaos enveloping the changing world, literature from the time period reveals profound concepts which aligns with the dynamic reinvention of societal constructs. Literature from the Victorian Era addresses the importance of art, staging it as a hindrance or benefit to society. Antagonistic views referring to the representation of art reflects the confusion and controversy of the time. The poem, The Lady of Shalott by Alfred Tennyson and the epic novel, Aurora Leigh, by Elizabeth Barrett Browning both stress the significance of art in society. However, they portray opposing views with regards to art being expressive or restrictive, the depiction of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In The Lady of Shalott, Tennyson characterizes art as being a restrictive force, acting against individual desires. In the poem, the Lady s dwelling place is described as, Four gray walls, and four grapy towers (Tennyson 15), where she is forced to reside in solitude. The poem reads, Only reapers, reaping early / In among the bearded barley, / Hear a song that echoes cheerly (Tennyson 28 30). The Lady s isolation, underlined by her ambiguity and lack of interaction with the external world, authenticates her imprisonment, and furthermore poses her artwork as the oppressor. The poem therefore suggests that art is restrictive, for the Lady of Shalott is secluded in a hidden tower and deserted from the rest of mankind against her wishes, as she claims she is half sick of shadows (Tennyson 71). Having the Lady s artwork confine her to the tower depicts art as a form of punishment over those creating it. Therefore, Tennyson s The Lady of Shalott displays art as an essential asset to enforce accepted conventional beliefs, supporting the ideology that art inevitably separates individuals from society, and their own ... • 34. Comparing Gender And The Media 3.2 Gender and the Media. 3.2.1 The portrayal of men in films There are a variety of men portrayed in modern films: ranging from the most common manly man to the goofball to the slowly emerging more sensitive man: one who is more comfortable with stereotypically female emotions such as sadness. Men in films such as The Hangover fall into the lad category, characterized by their immaturity, and adolescent behavior (Moore 1998:209). Men are also portrayed as the warrior , or hero in films such as Saving Private Ryan , or San Andreas respectively. Both films demonstrate male actors in traditionally male roles, saving the day, often rescuing women (more so in the latter than the former). Men are also portrayed as players or ... (Wikipedia) This trope is particularly disliked amongst feminists due to the portrayal of women as not only objects for the male to obtain, but also because of the negative light it shines on women. 3.2.3 The narcissistic man The narcissist is characterised by status all the right labels, the best grooming, and the perfect wife (Fourie 2008:313). Many men in media are portrayed in this light, such as Don Draper from Mad Men who only wore the most expensive suits both as a status symbol, and as a means of intimidating and impressing those in his field. The narcissist is also used often in adverts, such as George Clooney posing for Nespresso these ads appeal to the narcissist who will view a Nespresso machine not only as a status symbol, but to make themselves appear more attractive through the acquisition of the machine. 3.2.4 The yuppie man The Yuppie must have. Clearly, health care in the United States has become far too expensive, we spend more on health care than any other country in the world. Recent data indicates that we spend over two trillion dollars annually on health care, representing over seventeen percent of the gross domestic product (GDP) and these numbers are growing fast. It is estimated that by the year 2025 health care spending will be twenty five percent of the US GDP. This spending level is over two and a half times more per capita than the average of the thirty four countries in the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, which includes most of the developed countries of the world. Yet, despite these high levels of spending, of the countries in the OECD only the United States, Turkey, and Mexico do not have universal healthcare coverage for their citizens. The high cost of health care in the United States clearly has a negative impact on the competitiveness of US businesses. Health insurance premiums in the US have gone up 114% over the last decade, becoming one of the largest expenses for most companies. General Motors spends over five billion dollars annually on health care for their employees and retirees. This represents almost two thousand dollars for every car they sell. This is a huge competitive disadvantage for GM because companies like Toyota, Honda and Volvo pay far less for health care ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 36. ACE Inhibitor Personal Statement Replace fear of the unknown with curiosity. These words have been the driving force behind who I am today. Whether it is ordering a new dish at a restaurant, trying on a new outfit, choosing my high school subjects, or narrowing differential diagnoses; my inquisitive nature has always propelled me forward. Being accepted at the Aga Khan University Medical College, Pakistan s premier healthcare institution, gave me the opportunity to foster this curiosity. Each lecture challenged me to learn a new concept, be it simple as the mechanism of action of an ACE inhibitor (hint: it s in the name) or as complex as the intricate course of a particular artery. During my literature searches, I found that discovering cutting edge therapies for previously incurable diseases are now approved for use has been a particularly satisfying way to learn. • 38. The Footsteps Of Beethoven s Final Symphony I understood the essence of this quote after watching the film Following the Ninth: In the Footsteps of Beethoven s Final Symphony. It is a very powerful film that illustrates the impact of Beethoven s Ninth Symphony on individuals from different places in the world. This film is not the type of documentary that I expected. It is one of the best film that I saw. Following the Ninth presents the significance of humanity. The director, Kerry Candaele acknowledged that it was the third movement of Beethoven s final symphony that drew him into Beethoven s world. For me, Beethoven s last symphony has the spiritual power that lifts you up when you re down. The impact of Beethoven s the Ninth is so powerful that the director stated that Beethoven s symphony had reached me where it hurt. The director s interest in Beethoven started when he first listened to his last symphony in an afternoon drive to the California coast. Being carried away by Beethoven s Ninth, Candaele has turned his interest in Beethoven s last symphony into a film. China, Berlin, Chile, and Japan were the countries featured in the documentary. While studying Beethoven and his last symphony, Candaele discovered that Beethoven s Ninth has had a lasting political presence in the 186 years since its first performance, in 1824. Beethoven s last symphony became a message of hope for the protestors at the uprising in Tiananmen Square on June 4, 1989. On the same year, Beethoven s last symphony symbolized the ... It has influenced my feelings, thoughts, and actions. While there are many songs that mean a lot to me, the one song that has meant the most to me and positively influenced me throughout my life is the Christian song Stronger by Mandisa. The first time I heard Stronger was on the K Love Radio Station two days after my mom was diagnosed with breast cancer for the second time. It was stage two, so it was a pretty serious disease going throughout my mom s body. In the beginning, I was so upset and angry that something so terrible could happen to my family. My favorite line of the song says this, The pain ain t gonna last forever/ And things can only get better/ Believe me, this is gonna make you stronger . To me, these three lines told me that no matter what happened things could only go up, and I can be better from it. I now know this to be true. Because of my mom s fight, I have the courage to go after all of the things I thought I could not. For the first time, I was not scared of the future, as I used to be. Although Stronger was written in early 2011, I still listen to it very often. Every time the song brings back the terrible memories of both times the best person in my life had cancer. However, this song also brings back the amazing memories I had with my mom. Memories that show her courage and strength when I had little. One memory I had with my mom was sitting at Duke University hospital waiting on her final chemotherapy treatment before her surgery a few weeks ahead. The Father, Son and Holy Spirit is called the Trinity. The second person, God the son also known as the Word of God became a man to save the human race. He was born in the city of Bethlehem in Israel. He was known as Jesus of Nazareth, or Jesus son of Joseph and Mary, or Jesus the son of the carpenter. As he became known and respected as a wise and holy man, people realized that there was much more to him. As knowledge of him increased among his followers, people began to call him Christ, which means Anointed . They came to understand that he was the fulfillment of the prophesies of the Old Testament. The Old Testament is first half of the Bible. This is what the Jewish people believe to be the complete Bible. The Bible is believed to be the inspired word of God.
