Even In The Rain Film Analysis
In the films, Even in the Rain by Icíar Bollaín, The Namesake by Mira Nair, and The Great Escape by
John Sturges, I will be discussing chapters: One Looking at Movies , Two Principles of Film Form ,
and Four Elements of Narrative . These three directors employ the techniques of narrative and film
form to create movies about morality, identity, and freedom.
In chapter one: Looking at Movies of Looking at Movies, Richard Barsam and Dave Monahan discuss
the effects of expectation on film. Even the most general knowledge affects how we react to any given
film (page 13). Even the Rain had two types of expectations, expectation the characters had, and
expectation what the audience had. One example of the expectation of a character would be ... Show

Just because most stories follow the same general progression, narrative is not a single simple recipe
(page 131). Generally, a narrative has 3 basic acts: the setup, rising action, and the resolution. The
setup is the beginning of the movie where we learn about the setting and the characters that are
introduced which leads towards the inciting incident where the protagonist is presented a goal, the
rising action, which is the longest act in a narrative, continues where the protagonist goes on toward
the pursuit of that goal and the obstacles and stakes that occur towards the climax where we learn if
the goal is either gained or lost, and lastly we reach the resolution where the narrative wraps up loose
ends towards the conclusion. The Great Escape demonstrates a clear view on the narrative structure.
The setup is where we meet an allied group of escape artist prisoners of war that are put in an escape
proof prison camp in Germany. The inciting incident is when their leader Roger Bartlett is brought to
the camp and meets with his fellow soldiers and begins to plan a massive escape of over two hundred
men through a series of tunnels. The movie then goes on in the rising action where we see the men
work together and outwit the jailers as they dig tunnels under the camp; this goes on to

1. How should Trip Hawkins organize the functions of the teams in Finland, India, Spain and
California to move into the social network gaming world? Digital Chocolate began as an innovator in
a small new market and succeeded due to their ability to foster innovation and creativity in the mobile
gaming industry. The social gaming market has opened opportunities to expand Digital Chocolate s
horizons drastically. Trip Hawkins needs to promote a sense of urgency and to communicate the
importance of the switch for the organization. The next most important step is to have employees get

Essay about America Needs Nuclear Energy
America Needs Nuclear Energy
There are many power sources that can be utilized for our everyday lives; to heat our homes , run our
toasters, and light our hallways. Most of that power either directly or indirectly comes form the
sun(such as solar energy and fossil fuels). But one energy source that derived by the pure ingenuity of
man is nuclear power. As with all power sources there are positive and negative externalities. For
example: the burning of fossil fuel releases SOX and NOX into the air which can cause harm to the
health of humans ie. negative externality. But what is the the environmental effect of using nuclear
energy? What is the cost of extracting all this energy from so little? Radioactivity has always ... Show

The disposal of of nuclear waste is another environmental concern that must be dealt with in a smart
manner. This is a highly debated topic for several reasons. Having a half life of 10,000+ years, some
radioactive substances will stay highly dangerous for thousands of years. One possible solution to the
storage of nuclear waste is the Yucca mountain project (McCombie). This would provide a universal
storage site for all of the nuclear waste of the United States. However; there still are many things to be
worked out for this solution such as how will the nuclear waste be safely transported to Yucca
Mountain?
The nuclear energy institute refers to nuclear energy as the most eco efficient of all energy sources
because it produces the most electricity in relation to its minimal environmental impact. Nuclear
energy created electricity without burning anything and is therefore emission free. The areas around
nuclear power plants and their cooling ponds are so clean, they are often developed as wetlands that
provide nesting areas for waterfowl and other birds, new habitats for fish, and the preservation of
other wildlife as well as trees, flowers, and grasses not to mention the amount of actual land a nuclear
power plant uses in relation to the amount of

Colonial Indian Relations And The Impact On Colonization
COLONIAL INDIAN RELATIONS AND THE IMPACT ON COLONIZATION Jacquelyn Henry
University of Texas at Arlington HIST 1311 701: History of the United States to 1865 September 6,
2016 When discussing colonization, it is often asserted that European settlers contributed a variety of
foreign changes, both negative and positive, to the local natives. Things such as plants, domesticated
animals, advances in weaponry, European fashion, religion and foreign disease were just a few of the
new concepts introduced to the Indians. It is easy to look at Europeans as vilified strangers in a new
land taking that what does not belong to them, such as land, resources, and at times, even people.
What if we were to look at things from a different perspective? What roles did the Indians play to
impact the creation of the European colonies? Early relations amongst the natives and settlers
exhibited a fluid balance of conflict and cooperation that facilitated, for both parties, economic
opportunities based on trade, safety in the form of treaties and allies, and the potential gain of power.
When establishing colonies, many Europeans did so on the premise that the new lands would provide
a source of economic gain via flourishing crops, gainful resources, or sought after precious metals,
and while this is true on some measures, another important source of revenue would come in the form
of trade amongst the natives. With the influx of colonists came the new desire for foreign goods. The

How To Write A Rhetorical Analysis Of Two States Speech
Peace, a wish every nation struggles to gain, with war taking over our history and the present day. But
when speaking of peace two countries that could be looked at a little longer are Israel and Palestine,
these states have struggled with war and violence for years. It seems they have been stuck in an
ongoing war for years, not only with other nations but also each other. The Middle East as a whole,
has been stuck in a dark shadow, because of extremism and terror which are stopping progress and
killing innocents. In Bush s speech Israel Palestine Two State Solution his overall purpose is to bring
peace within these two states and to lower the rates of violence along with war. Which both are two
major key elements when speaking of these states, the having been engulfed by war for years and

Symptoms And Treatment Of Medical Honey
Observations: I have a friend at work whose daughter has a wound on her hip that won t heal. She has
had this open wound for almost a year and the doctors are not sure why it won t close up. As a part of
trying to keep the wound clear of infection she said they have been using medical honey. I had never
heard of using honey as a an antibiotic treatment and this got me interested in the subject.
Question: Is honey an effective treatment in fighting the growth of bacteria in open wounds?
Research Hypothesis: Medical honey is an effective agent in fighting bacterial growth in wounds.
Null Hypothesis: Medical honey is not an effective agent in fighting bacterial growth in wounds.
Proposed experimental methods: This experiment will ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If there is not a significant difference in bacterial counts between the two wounds then I will reject the
hypothesis in favor of the null hypothesis.
Results: The effectiveness of honey has been documented since ancient times well before the
discovery of microbes and bacteria. The ancient Egyptians and Greeks used honey for treatment of
wounds, and unprocessed honey is still used today across the world for wound treatment (Simon et al,
2009). There have been many modern studies to study both the antibacterial effects of honey and its
effect on wound healing.
While natural unprocessed honey is known to have certain antibacterial properties, the studies that I
reviewed for this this paper all reviewed the effectiveness of medical honey. Medical honey is a
standardized and sterilized form of honey produced especially for medical uses. Two different brands
of honey that were tested separately in the studies I reviewed are Revamil and Medihoney. Both of
these honeys are produced in a controlled environment, sterilized, mixed, and tested to ensure a
consistent quality and results between each batch (Kwakman et al, 2008).
One concern of using honey as a treatment in wound treatment is the natural presence of botulism
spores in unprocessed honey (Simon et al, 2009). Honey cannot be filtered so the honey is irradiated
to kill the botulism spores. The irradiation

President Development Centre or usually shortened as PDC is a facility prepared by President
University Education Foundation (PUEF) that as his name has shown, provides place for people to
develop themselves. This centre of development was started around four years ago, with only five
classes in one store and language lessons prepared for the students who want to learn about languages.
With twenty five tutors, a director and four employers (two staffs and two office boys), PDC has
developed quite a lot in its years, where PDC already has fifteen classes in three stores and has
nothing more than only languages lessons. The services now available aside from language lessons are

to be available around next year for the President University students who are having difficulties in
their lectures. The employers in President Development Centre are quite interested in this planning
since they have been asked by the students, especially the freshmen about lesson package for
accounting.
President Development Centre would like to be one of the best and known training centres in
Indonesia that fulfils the need of companies and society in increasing the human resources quality to
be the educated, skilled and trained , as stated in its vision. And its mission is professional, trusted and
keep trying to be the best. That is why President Development Centre has many students, whether they
are from President University or the people from other places and other cities who have heard about
their quality.
PRINCIPLES OF MANAGEMENT
President Development Centre uses principles of management to get to where it nature is right now
and to get it where it wants to be in the future. Those principles are Division of Work, Planning,
Controlling and Continuous Quality Improvement. The explanations below will explain further about
the principles of managements which have been mentioned before.

Through the IR spectrum we can identify it as an isoborneol because it s basically a hydrocarbon with
a carbonyl. The C H stretching around 3000 wavenumbers, there isn t much else you can identify.
Camphor is fairly simple, so there is no anything other than the carbonyl and some C H stretching.
The spectrum of isoborneol should show an OH peak, though because it s a solid sample, the peak
won t be as broad as those seen for OH peaks in liquid samples. My guess is that the peak at ~3600
wavenumbers is the OH group. However, in my result, the wave doesn t seem to be clearly showed. It
probably means that my isoborneol sample has retained some amount of the precursor, either because
the reaction didn t go to completion or because my purification procedure was inadequate.
Borneol and isoborneol contain an asymmetric carbon atom (denoted by an asterisk), and therefore
each of them exists in two optically active forms and one inactive racemic form ( , +, and ±). Borneol
has an endo configuration; in other hand, its isomer, isoborneol, has an exo

Descriptive Epidemiological Analysis Of Lyme Disease Essay
Descriptive Epidemiological Analysis of Lyme disease
Lyme disease is a spirochetal infection, which is transmitted by the bite of infected Ixodes ricinus
complex ticks. It is brought about essentially by Borrelia burgdorferi in the United States. Lyme
disease was initially perceived clinically in 1977 as Lyme arthritis amid investigations of a group of
youngsters in Connecticut who were thought to have adolescent rheumatoid joint inflammation. The
etiology of Lyme disease was found to be a spirochete in the mid 1980s. The rate of Lyme disease and
the geographic conveyance of cases in the United States have expanded consistently from that point
forward (Beard, 2016).
Lyme disease is the most widely recognized tick borne disease in the United States and Europe
(Beard, 2016). Since the ticks that transmit Lyme disease are frequently encountered in backyards and
recreational areas, a high level of public awareness and education should be made available to the
general public for areas that have a high level of Lyme disease. From 2005 to 2014, a sum of 251,061
cases of Lyme disease was accounted for in the United States. In 2014, Lyme disease was the fifth
most common reportable illness in the United States. Recent studies have shown about roughly
300,000 individuals are determined to have Lyme disease in the United States every year (Beard,
2016).
Descriptive epidemiology can be broken down by using the 5W model which is used in the military
for almost everything.

their knuckles and feet. Like the orangutans they reproduce slowly; most have their first child after
age nine and have children about every four years. Chimpanzees also have three subspecies, one found
in west Africa, one in central Africa, and one in east Africa. These species have subtle differences in
appearance. They also exhibit sexual dimorphism but it is less extreme than gorillas. The male
generally weights between 90 130 pounds, and the female weighs between 70 and 100 pounds. They

Love Medicine Analysis
Domestic violence is present across America, but the role it has taken in the lives of Native American
women is most troubling as it can be harder to track. Tribal sovereignty can at times act as a shield for
violence. The independent nature of tribes as nations can impede systems established to prevent
reoccurring actions of violence within a society. However, as domestic violence is largely a result of
societal systems, it is easiest and most thoroughly examined through narratives. Louise Erdrich
provides this in Love Medicine. The multi faceted perspectives provide an analysis of the lives of
Ojibwe people. As a reoccurring presence of Native American life, domestic violence is displayed
with repetition, ready to be examined through ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
No more are women welcome to be respected shaman, religious leaders: Thus, the primary role of this
education for Indian girls was to inculcate patriarchal norms and desires into Native communities, so
that women would lose their places of leadership in Native communities (Smith, Boarding 90). Marie
demonstrates this when she views her noteworthy accomplishments through the position her husband
has attained (Erdrich 153 154). In an Anglicized society, Marie s accomplishments of raising children
is negligible compared to what her husband can achieve. Marie has internalized this status and cannot
see the value in anything she has done to be proud of. Gordie was raised by a woman who has lost her

around them. The Anglo s historical belief of gender hierarchy is problematic as negative attitudes
toward women are a stronger indicator for domestic violence than alcohol (Mildorf 29). The gender
roles weren t just limited to social power, but were further expressed through physical dominance.
This was translated by the Native American children s experiences at boarding school, where school
leaders showed dominance through physical abuse in addition to the psychological indoctrination.
Sexual, physical, and emotional violence was rampant. Even when teachers were charged with abuse,

would allow for all future discoveries, forever changing science and the scientific revolution.
Galileo Galilei was born on February 15th, 1564 in Pisa, the northern part of Italy. His father was a

Work Motivation Theories
Introduction
The work motivation theories can be broadly classified as content theories and process theories. The
content theories are concerned with identifying the needs that people have and how needs are
prioritized. They are concerned with types of incentives that drive people to attain need fulfillment.
The Maslow hierarchy theory, Fredrick Herzberg s two factor theory and Alderfer s ERG needs theory
fall in this category. Although such a content approach has logic, is easy to understand, and can be
readily translated in practice, the research evidence points out limitations. There is very little research

We are expected to apply the Golden Rule and to help where we can an act ably demonstrated by the
Parable of the Good Samaritan .
Social exchange theory assumes rational, calculated action involving an expected pay off. We do not
always act rationally. Many will not be as selfish as rational action may suggest. Indeed our reward
may be the inner glow of respecting oneself and living to one s own values. Such altruism, albeit self
referential, does not sit easily under the assumptions of the rational, economic person model.
Implications
It is necessary to pay attention to what employees perceive to be fair and equitable. For example: In
my company, one of my colleagues was assigned to a project that required him to work during non
business hours frequently. He worked three days at the office and two days at home in a week for a
month and half. This caused others to start working from home during business hours.
Allow employees to have a voice and an opportunity to appeal. Organizational changes, promoting
cooperation, etc. can come easier with equitable outcomes.
Management s failure to achieve equity could be costly for the organization. For example: One of my
technically team members was not very competent. He took double the time to complete any give
work when compared to the others. Management failed to take any action; instead the others were
given more work. Eventually, even the competent workers took it

It is easy to say that species are constantly changing,...
It is easy to say that species are constantly changing, and branching off into totally new species. But
how do we know where the species originate? Phylogenies help to show us how all kinds of species
are related to each other, and why. These relationships are put into what can be called a cladogram,
which links species to common ancestors, in turn showing where, when, how, and why these ancestors
diverged to form new species. Without phylogenies, it would be extremely difficult to put species in
specific categories or relate them to one another. Along with phylogenies can come conflict on which
species should be related to one another. This conflict causes many hypotheses and experiments,
which can lead to phylogenetic retrofitting, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The parareptile hypothesis is taken back at least two decades. It has recently been rediscovered and
contradicted by parsimony. Bayesian inferences support this parareptile conclusion, but parsimony
concludes the idea of turtles being a sister group to pareiasaurs, which is an anapsid group, including
Eunotosaurus. To test these hypothesis, a multitude of data is compiled to observe the stability behind
the inferences made. In this article, one main experiment was discussed through the collection and
analysis of two retrofitted matrices, phylogenetic analyses, and molecular scaffolds. In one matrice,
Eunotosaurus was added to a diapsid focused data set, while turtles were added to an anapsid focused
data set. The diapsid sets included a broad sampling of diapsids, which placed turtles as sisters to
sauropterygians. The anapsid set, on the other hand, included a broad sampling of anapsids, especially
parareptiles. Turtles were not included in the anapsid set. When the experiment moves on to the
phylogenetic analysis, Bayesian inferences and parsimony were brought into the mix. After these
analyses, the experiment finally includes molecular scaffolding. The effect of molecular scaffolding
was to see where extant linneages interact with molecular phylogenies. The, the Bayesian and

Benefits Of Using Pvc Used For An Enterprise Of Pvc Furniture
CHAPTER 5
RESULT DISCUSSION
5.1 RESULT DISCUSSION
It can be easily understood by this paper that there are enormous benefits of using PVC in various
applications. Setting up an enterprise of PVC furniture can give us high returns at low input cost.
Initial set up cost of PVC furniture enterprise is also less as compared to other enterprises of same
level. This project requires less area because of its simple fabrication process and less machines
required with reduced inventory. Dedicating ourselves towards protecting environment it can save
thousands/lakhs of trees which would otherwise be used in making furniture. Also precious earth
metals can be saved for more purposeful use by using PVC in many applications. Polyvinyl chloride
(PVC) pipe are leading the way in replacing the various other materials that have been previously used
in pipe construction; they have only been scarcely used in the past, however over the past 30 years
they have proven themselves to be more than worthy replacements for the conventional materials such
as steel and iron.
PVC has a myriad of advantages over traditionally used materials. For starters, PVC and PE pipe are
very durable materials; they are just as strong as iron, which is crucial due to pipes exposure to both
internal and external pressures. However, arguably two of their most important attributes are that they
neither corrode, nor do they have a

Illness like meningitis are more serious and needs more attention. As a teacher or learning support
assistant, you will most time work closely with individual children. You will notice when the child is
not well, or may be incubating an illness. This can take place over a period of days, weeks or months.
Some of the signs you will notice are looking pale, had dark rings around eyes, appears more tied, has
lost their appetite, the child being quiet and looks flushed. It is very important that you recognize the
signs and symptoms. It is not your role to diagnose the sickness. It is also not your duty to jump to
conclusions. If a child display any of the signs and symptoms of common illness the school will
inform the child s parents so that they can take the child home. Older child can describe how he or she
feels. If working with younger children or with children with learning disability, or communication
difficulty, they may be unable to say or explain their symptoms.
The length of time children must stay away from school very between the type of illness and the child.
The health protection agency guidance {2009} give advice to schools on how soon children can return

How Did Tommy Douglass Affect Canada
Tommy Douglas was the first person to ever lead a social democratic government in Canada. It was
because of his views that his political opponents often criticized him. They labelled him as a red and a
communist at times, because he believed in socialism and that everyone deserved free healthcare, even
the one s who were poor and and in a bad situation. His impact on Canadians was a great one.
Especially the ones were suffering from the economic depression that had it s grip on Saskatchewan.
Tommy Douglas worked to create a better society in Saskatchewan and Canada, he wanted to alleviate
the suffering. He is known for how he drastically increased welfare benefits. By providing electricity
to the farmers in the rural areas, he helped the poor farmers. By establishing a universal healthcare
system, he helped the ones who were suffering from disease or sickness but couldn t pay for help. By

On November 1st at 6:20 pm on a breezy Wednesday night, the world renown World Series is

Dodger Stadium. I expect yelling, beer spilling, obnoxious girls that know nothing about baseball, but
they actually don t, so they yell stupid stuff at the TV, and I expect to see die hard baseball fans that
care about this sport. I also predict that the whole bar area was going to be jam packed. Watching a
baseball game surrounded by other people that know and love the sport is almost as good as it gets to
see it live at a stadium. I m sure that all of the fans in the bar wanted to go see the game in person, but
the tickets were sold out and they started at six thousand dollars when the tickets first came out. The
energy in the bar that night was going to be at an all time high.

The New York Stock Exchange was not always the financial giant it is today. When it first began in

only twenty four brokers were allowed to participate in trading. It wasn t until 1817 that the New York

Gomer And Hosea
The book of Hosea has to be one of the oddest books of the entire Bible to some. Who would have
ever thought that God would have asked his obedient and faithful prophet Hosea to go and take a
prostitute to be his wife? There is a common knowledge that God can use anything for His glory.
Therefore, as odd as Hosea and Gomer s story is, it is not exempt from glorifying God. God s love is
unfailing and unconditional for all of humanity and that was proven in and through the love story of
Hosea and Gomer. In this paper, I will cover God s peculiar instructions for Hosea, Hosea and Gomer
s story, Hosea s heartbreak, the state of Israel during this time, and God s unfailing love for Israel.
God s Peculiar Instructions for Hosea In Hosea 1:2, God gives Hosea instructions to go out and marry
an adulterous wife and have children of unfaithfulness. God told Hosea to do this because Israel is
guilty of the vilest adultery in departing from the Lord. In the next verse, Hosea married Gomer, and
Gomer had three children back to back and God told Hosea to name them names that represented His
broken relationship with Israel (Hosea 1:4 8).

In the 18th, century many elements were starting to be discovered so scientists faced the problem of
trying to arrange them. At this time the actual masses of the elements could not be measured so instead
they compared them with the mass of hydrogen, or the relative atomic mass. Firstly in 1862 Alexandre
Beguyer de Chancoutois arranged the elements into a three dimensional form of classification called
the telluric screw. The telluric screw plotted the elements on the outside of a cylinder where one
complete turn corresponded to an atomic weight increase of 16. This resulted in curtain elements
appearing on the same vertical line as other element after one full turn of the cylinder. These elements

The periodic table is important for scientists today because it is an easy way to order elements based
on trends and because of this we can quickly identify the trends and properties of an element just by
looking at its position on the table. The table is useful for students and scientists because it helps
predict the types of chemical reactions that are likely for an element. Rather than memorise facts and
figures for each element, a quick glance at the table reveals a lot about the reactivity of an element,
whether it is likely to conduct electricity, whether it is hard or soft, and many other characteristics. Not
only does the table enable us to find out properties of known elements, but it can predict the properties
of elements not yet discovered. Mendeleev was the first person to leave gaps in the periodic table for
elements not yet discovered, so we can predict in much detail the properties of the element that would
fit in the gaps that have been left

Maya Angelou s Graduation Day
Words are the building blocks of life. Words are the building blocks of language and communication.
Through words, one can encourage and/or discourage an entire audience. Words can also have the
power to create a sense of identity in humanity. If used poorly, words can establish superiority and
reinforce the subjugation of others. Words set up society and the general chain of command. It is the
power within the words that lends significance to the inspirational speeches and songs held so dearly
in the hearts of many. Due to their significant daily presence, words hold an immense power. In Maya
Angelou s Graduation Day, she carefully describes the intense negative power one man s words have
on an entire community. Angelou also illustrates a very emotional positive power that a boy s words
have in lifting the congregation s spirits up. Words are depicted as powerful because when used in
certain way, they are more than words; they are ideas. Words constantly manipulate emotions. They
weave a tapestry of complex and conflicting feelings throughout the course of daily conversation.
There are many contributing factors to the power of words including, but not limited to, body
language, tone of voice, and eye contact. In some cases, the effect of words can be disheartening, as
evidenced in Graduation Day. When Angelou describes Donleavy s speech in the story, she illustrates

Use Of Virtual And Augmented Reality
Uses of Virtual and Augmented Reality
Today, virtual and augmented reality is no stranger to us. We see and hear about it almost every day
from friends posting videos of someone s grandparents taking a virtual rollercoaster ride, game
conventions and even from television series such as the legendary anime, Sword Art: Online (2012).
When you think about the two gaming is the most obvious thing that comes to mind. However, many
people don t know about the other uses of this booming technology. So, what are ways that virtual and
augmented reality technology can be used?
Virtual and Augmented
Let s start off with what we know about virtual and augmented reality. Virtual reality (VR) is a
computer technology that uses VR headsets that are head mounted goggles with a screen in front of
the eyes that generate realistic video and with speakers or headphones produce sounds that simulate a
user s physical presence in an imaginary, sometimes real, environment. The user using VR equipment
is able to look around the artificial world and with another device such as a game controller the user
can move about in it and interact with the world they are in.
Augmented reality (AR) is similar to virtual reality but it is a live direct or indirect view of a physical
real world environment whose elements are augmented by computer generated sensory software.
Basically a device such as your cellphone that as view of reality in real time from its camera and with
AR overlaying software is modified by

Asabi al nuzūl is the term for occasions or reasons for the revelations and Succinctly put, it captures
the historical and contextual investigations that various verses and suras of the Quran provoked ().
Some of the verses may have been revealed by Muhammad in response to a question he was asked,
but for many of the verses there is no specific reason for their revelations. In Q109 some grammatical
peculiarities can be observed and are questioned. One profound objection is the objective pronoun
used in the third verse of Q 109, what I worship . Should not, the grammarians asked, the correct
expression be You do not worship whom I worship? After all, God is a who , not a what (). This
question is answered by Al Tūsi by saying the what in this phrase is referring to an Idol. The next
question regarding the repetition in the verses is answered simply as repetition is used as a rhetorical

Theme Of The Graveyard Book
CORE The Graveyard Book (Neil Gaiman)
In The Graveyard Book , the author, Neil Gaiman conforms to the conventions of fantasy genre, by
making the novel have a deep and much hidden meaning, which the reader may not identify at first
glance. However, Neil Gaiman also subverts from the conventions of fantasy genre, because of the
reversal in roles of traditional characters, in typical fantastical stories. The Graveyard Book by Neil
Gaiman, is a children s fantasy novel. This book is about a boy, named Nobody (Bod) Owens, who is
taken in, raised and educated by supernatural inhabitants of a graveyard, after his family was

Clear examples of this are Mr and Mrs Owens, who are ghosts, but still agree to take care of Bod.
Mrs. Owens and her husband have taken the child under their protection. It will take more than just a
couple of good hearted souls to raise this child. It will, said Silas, take a graveyard. This quote shows
that although Mr and Mrs Owens are ghosts, they can still be kind and loving towards others. Another
character in The Graveyard Book , who has an unordinary characteristic, compared to traditional
fantasy characters, is Silas, who is a vampire, but nonetheless, looks after and provides for Bod, as his
guardian. This shows how Neil Gaiman s book subverts from traditional characters, because in typical
fantastical stories, supernatural characters, such as ghosts and vampires, are constantly portrayed as
having a bad or evil nature. In The Graveyard Book , Neil Gaiman most likely subverted from the
fantasy genre, to make his book original and unique, rather than to follow the conventional story line.
Another reason as to why Neil Gaiman subverted from the fantasy genre, is to show a pleasant and
friendly side to supernatural characters, which are often portrayed as evil. This is because most readers
have the common mindset, that creatures such as vampires and ghosts must be

reasoning. Spatial temporal reasoning is the ability to visualize the instruments played in a song and
the musical notation.
In conclusion, music is an important motivation for creativity and inspiration. It is a way we can
express ourselves without having to say anything, it is a hobby or a pastime.

Beowulf Leadership Analysis
In the fantasy world found within the story of Beowulf; Hrothgar, the wise king of the Danes, offers
Beowulf some important lessons of leadership. Hrothgar, recognizing Beowulf s nobility and strength,
talks to him about how he should act to be a good ruler when he becomes king. The characteristics of
good leadership that Hrothgar mentions still hold true today, through people like politicians, and
business executives. Hrothgar s sermon not only provides an insight into what leaders like these
should do, it aims to bring to light what leaders should not do.
To Hrothgar, a true leader should not be wicked to their people; rather, they should show kindness and
be loved by their people. While talking about a previous ruler of the Danes, Hrothgar tells Beowulf
that his rise in the world brought little joy to the Danish people, only death and destruction
(McArthur). In order to keep the people happy, it is important to be open to them and generous.
Beowulf does this when he becomes king of the Geats by becoming a ring giver to his people
(Loughman). For example, after slaying the monster Grendel, Hrothgar rewards Beowulf, with a
victory gift, an embroidered banner; also breast mail; and a sword carried high (Post). In today s
society, rewarding swords and armor to every staff member at a company is a bit outlandish,
nevertheless; business executives can take away from this by rewarding the work that the people of
their company put in, rather than ignoring the needs and lives

Persuasive Speech On Organ Trafficking In China
A. (Attention Gainer) Can you imagine being in prison and being forced to take blood tests and
medical exams? That these medical tests are what going to determine whether you live or not. You
probably cannot imagine that, but that is what is happening to many prisoners in China. These
prisoners are being tested for potential buyers in China for illegal human organ trafficking
B. (Reason to Listen) This practice is inhumane and unethical and we need to put an end to something
like this.
C. (Establishing Credibility) Through extensive research of human organ trafficking, I am confident
enough to be discussing this issue.
D. (Thesis) China is performing unethical acts for their human organ trafficking and we need to put an
end to it.
E. (Preview Main Points) Today, I am going to talk about how the Chinese government is lying to
their people, why this practice is still going on, and solutions to ending this problem.
II. Body
A. (Main Point # Problems/ Harms) The Chinese government has been deceitful to their people about
where the main source of their organs come from.
1. Chinese government has told their citizens that the organs they receive come from volunteers and
not from prisoners anymore. However, For the last decade or more, Chinese hospitals, aided by
internet advertising, have been major destinations for wealthy or well insured transplants tourists from
around the world (Danovitch et al., 2013, p. 1308 1309).
2. There has been much evidence that shows that

Environmental Impact and Sustainability Issues related to PBDEs
In chapter fourteen of our textbook, Environment: The Science Behind The Stories, it is made clear
that the United States does not use the precautionary principle approach when it comes to evaluating
how toxic a substance is (Withgott Laposata, 2014, p. 382). This lack of precaution has proven to be
dangerous when it comes to chemicals, especially when using polybrominated diphenyl ethers
(PBDEs). PBDEs are chemically engineered flame retardants used during the manufacturing process
of clothing, bedding, and many other household goods. These flame retardants work by eliminating
the fire s oxygen supply, resulting in less damage to the item and a decrease in the chance of a larger
fire (Hester Harrison, 2013, p. 45). While PBDEs may have been necessary during a time when there
were fewer fire regulations, it is clear that the negative effects of these flame retardants outweigh the
benefits in today s times.
According to the journal of Environmental Science Technology (2016), the toxicity of PBDEs was
first discovered in Sweden, when a study exposed an unsafe and increasing level of flame retardants in
the breast milk of women. This study showed that PBDEs were potentially toxic and highly
bioaccumulative, meaning that they accumulate in the body instead of being broken down. PBDEs
were identified as mutagens, as well as possible carcinogens. Because of these findings, PBDEs were
banned in some countries and

Similarities Between Witchcraft, Wicca, And Paganism
Introduction
The terms Witchcraft, Wicca, and Paganism are often used interchangeably. However, the terms have
very different meanings and each term has a complex history. First, I will discuss each terms brief
history and then their definitions. Finally, at the end, I will sum up my conclusions concerning the
terms similarities and differences.
Witchcraft
The history of Witchcraft is difficult to trace because it remained a hidden practice for most of its early
history. Several of the scholars I researched argued that Witchcraft never existed and was just the
product of creative imaginations. However, noted religious scholar, Mircea Eliade, argues that
evidence suggests that Witchcraft was a very ancient practice. Standard dictionary definitions define
Witches as people who practice magick. However, the definition of the word Witch has evolved over
many centuries. For example, the Anglo Saxon word Wicca or Wicce simply refers to a male or female
seer or person who can find out information by using majick. (1) In addition, both Wyeh in Saxon and
Wicce in Old English means to bend, turn or shape. (1) And finally, the Germanic root wit means ...

The word comes from the Latin term, pagus which means from the countryside. (2) Its usage was
comparable to the contemporary use of the term hick, as an individual who is backward. It also carried
a negative religious connotation because Pagans were not Christian. Therefore, the term originally
meant anyone who didn t belong to a Judeo Christian religion. However, the term evolved as societies
grew and changed. Today, the term in its broadest, meaning is someone who follows a religious path
which is polytheistic. In addition, Pagans honor the divinity of nature and don t believe that humans
have dominion over nature. Finally, Pagans acknowledge the existence of both male and female

Smith Roland Project Case Study
Smith Roland Project: Communication Barriers
The Smith Roland Project will be underway soon and we need to have a plan for communication
differences and barriers for our teams in South Carolina, Texas, and Portland. We need to be sure that
communications are sent and received while keeping our communication differences in mind.
As the project manager for this project, here is my plan to address communication barriers for our
team and to keep communication flowing in a positive way.
PHYSICAL
The first and most obvious barrier to effective communication is the physical barrier. With our team
split into three different locations, the physical distance can lead to miscommunication.
To overcome this barrier, I plan to have frequent face to face ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Meeting will be scheduled with these barriers in mind.
SEMANTICS
The second communication barrier is semantics, which is words, jargon, phrases and acronyms used at
the various locations that may not be widely known outside of a specific area or group of people.
To overcome this barrier, I ve asked the team leaders at each location to submit to me any common
acronyms used at their location along with an explanation and definition. These acronyms and
definitions will be logged and sent out to all team members for reference.
I will ask that all team members keep our communication differences in mind when speaking and as
much as possible to refrain from using local jargon or catch phrases. Additionally I will make sure to
communicate to all team members that they should feel comfortable asking questions when an
acronym or phrase is not clear.
PERSONAL
The third barrier to communication is personal barriers. Personal communication barriers are varied
and can include individual styles of sending and receiving messages, stereotypes, personality
differences, education and background differences,

The Role Of Technology In The Early 20th Century
Jillian Garrett
History 1493
Professor Hanshew
19 June 2015
Research Paper Technology in the early 20th century grew quickly and brought many changes to life
both at home and in work. Automobiles, home appliances, and entertainment changed how Americans
spent their time and money. During the early to mid 20th century America went through an
economical depression, two wars, and recessions, this caused many Americans to go through stages of
poverty, fear, and wealth. The advancement of technology did not come without downfalls including
pollution, debt, and change in moral beliefs. In 1903 the Ford Motor Company was founded in
Detroit, Michigan. Tames describes, when Henry Ford began producing vehicles his aim was to turn

Safety regulations were not originally in use when automobiles were first on the road which led to the
invention of traffic lights, cat s eyes, and painting of lines in the road to assist drivers. Vehicles have
come a long way since their introduction into American society and they continue to change as newer
technology grows. At the turn of the century many homes were cleaned by hand, food was prepared in
stoves, and children played in sitting rooms or outside. Technology allowed for changes to be made in
the home over the course of just a few years with the introduction of toasters, refrigerators, televisions,
and vacuum cleaners. Cooking for the household became easier with the advancements of gas and
eventually electric ranges. Busch describes how the shift from gas range to electric range was
beneficial as the units were smaller allowing more space in the kitchen, there was better temperature
control, and oven heat control and exterior coolness since older gas ranges lacked oven thermostats
and insulation. Refrigerators had been around for years, but were large and took up much of the room
in a kitchen. Isenstadt states, Electric refrigerators in the 1920s and 1930s were seen as a large step
toward modernization of the home. Shortly after this time customization of refrigerators became
popular and with advances in the electrical components involved the units became smaller. In 1908
advertisements became popular for upright vacuum

The Trials Of The Nuremberg Trials
It is a pleasant autumn day in Buenos Aires, Argentina, in 1960. Suddenly, agents from Israel s
intelligence agency, Mossad, tackled a man to the ground (Lichtblau, The Nazis Next Door 68).
Unbeknownst to spectators, that man was Adolf Eichmann, aide to the Fascist dictator Adolf Hitler.
Along with Hitler and other Third Reich Nazis, he had organized the Holocaust a massive genocide
murdering eleven million people. How is it possible that, after all of these years, Eichmann remained
hidden? How is it possible that the Nuremberg War Crimes Trials, which were held by the Allied
Powers after World War II, did not execute this man? The Nuremberg Trials were a series of thirteen
trials held between 1945 and 1949 to prosecute some Nazi war criminals. The trials were held in
Nuremberg, Germany, because its courthouse was not damaged from the war. The four Allied Powers
held the hearings, and the best known trial was the Trial of Major War Criminals ( Nuremberg Trials ).
The fact of the matter is that not many Nazis were actually convicted in the Nuremberg Trials, even
though these court proceedings were supposed to bring Nazis to justice. Overall, the Nuremberg Trials
were not effective in prosecuting Nazi war criminals. This is because few Nazis were executed, many
fled to South America, the U.S. enlisted them as spies, and they became top scientists in the United
States Space Program.
One reason why the Nuremberg Trials were not effective is because only ten Nazis were

Crave Tv Competitive Analysis
One of the main advantages CraveTV can use to compete with Amazon and Netflix in terms of non
price competition is the Canadian orientated content that it provides.
http://www.thetvaddict.com/2015/01/12/cravetv vs netflix vs shomi comparison/ Although Crave TV
lacks famous shows such as House Of Cards, they compensate for it through their catalog. Their
parent company Bell Media has ownership of many networks and channels across Canada, which
allows CraveTV to have different shows compared to its competitors. In Module Five, it covers non
price competition and explains how marketers often compete on product attributes other than price.

Pluto Pros And Cons
People love Pluto, whether they are young or old it does not seem to matter. The planet (and Walt
Disney s beloved character) holds a special place in a lot of people s hearts. Yet, this only became
clear to me after reading The Pluto Files by Neil deGrasse Tyson. I remember when Pluto s
classification changed from being a planet to a dwarf planet however, I was never aware of how big of
a controversy it caused. The fact that there was a conference deciding whether or not we should keep
Pluto as our ninth planet was not something I was aware of previously to this book. Tyson does a
wonderful job explaining the story of Pluto and not only the how the planet was reclassified but also
why. As we spoke about in class Pluto does not really fit into the categories of being a planet, this was
one of the major arguments as to why Pluto should not be considered our nineth planet anymore. I
believe that it is interesting that some people were trying to then create a classification specifically for
Pluto. However, this obviously did not come to be as there must be more than one of something in
order for it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
What is surprising is how people reacted and continue to over the decision. I agree with Tyson when
he says Find quote about Pluto being the smallest planet and largest dwarf planet Yet, it is surprising
that a lot of people do not feel this way. Why are people so emotionally attached to an object that is
billions of miles away? Is it because it was one of the easier planets to remember in the solar system?
Or perhaps it was because it was the smallest and people tend to cheer for the underdog. No doubt
Disney s fun, loving pup had some help in the matter as well. Whatever the case people feel strongly
enough about the issue to write Tyson personally about the regrouping of their favorite planet. Again
what surprises me is that it was not only children but also

  • 2. Even In The Rain Film Analysis In the films, Even in the Rain by Icíar Bollaín, The Namesake by Mira Nair, and The Great Escape by John Sturges, I will be discussing chapters: One Looking at Movies , Two Principles of Film Form , and Four Elements of Narrative . These three directors employ the techniques of narrative and film form to create movies about morality, identity, and freedom. In chapter one: Looking at Movies of Looking at Movies, Richard Barsam and Dave Monahan discuss the effects of expectation on film. Even the most general knowledge affects how we react to any given film (page 13). Even the Rain had two types of expectations, expectation the characters had, and expectation what the audience had. One example of the expectation of a character would be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Just because most stories follow the same general progression, narrative is not a single simple recipe (page 131). Generally, a narrative has 3 basic acts: the setup, rising action, and the resolution. The setup is the beginning of the movie where we learn about the setting and the characters that are introduced which leads towards the inciting incident where the protagonist is presented a goal, the rising action, which is the longest act in a narrative, continues where the protagonist goes on toward the pursuit of that goal and the obstacles and stakes that occur towards the climax where we learn if the goal is either gained or lost, and lastly we reach the resolution where the narrative wraps up loose ends towards the conclusion. The Great Escape demonstrates a clear view on the narrative structure. The setup is where we meet an allied group of escape artist prisoners of war that are put in an escape proof prison camp in Germany. The inciting incident is when their leader Roger Bartlett is brought to the camp and meets with his fellow soldiers and begins to plan a massive escape of over two hundred men through a series of tunnels. The movie then goes on in the rising action where we see the men work together and outwit the jailers as they dig tunnels under the camp; this goes on to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Essay about America Needs Nuclear Energy America Needs Nuclear Energy There are many power sources that can be utilized for our everyday lives; to heat our homes , run our toasters, and light our hallways. Most of that power either directly or indirectly comes form the sun(such as solar energy and fossil fuels). But one energy source that derived by the pure ingenuity of man is nuclear power. As with all power sources there are positive and negative externalities. For example: the burning of fossil fuel releases SOX and NOX into the air which can cause harm to the health of humans ie. negative externality. But what is the the environmental effect of using nuclear energy? What is the cost of extracting all this energy from so little? Radioactivity has always ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The disposal of of nuclear waste is another environmental concern that must be dealt with in a smart manner. This is a highly debated topic for several reasons. Having a half life of 10,000+ years, some radioactive substances will stay highly dangerous for thousands of years. One possible solution to the storage of nuclear waste is the Yucca mountain project (McCombie). This would provide a universal storage site for all of the nuclear waste of the United States. However; there still are many things to be worked out for this solution such as how will the nuclear waste be safely transported to Yucca Mountain? The nuclear energy institute refers to nuclear energy as the most eco efficient of all energy sources because it produces the most electricity in relation to its minimal environmental impact. Nuclear energy created electricity without burning anything and is therefore emission free. The areas around nuclear power plants and their cooling ponds are so clean, they are often developed as wetlands that provide nesting areas for waterfowl and other birds, new habitats for fish, and the preservation of other wildlife as well as trees, flowers, and grasses not to mention the amount of actual land a nuclear power plant uses in relation to the amount of ... Colonial Indian Relations And The Impact On Colonization COLONIAL INDIAN RELATIONS AND THE IMPACT ON COLONIZATION Jacquelyn Henry University of Texas at Arlington HIST 1311 701: History of the United States to 1865 September 6, 2016 When discussing colonization, it is often asserted that European settlers contributed a variety of foreign changes, both negative and positive, to the local natives. Things such as plants, domesticated animals, advances in weaponry, European fashion, religion and foreign disease were just a few of the new concepts introduced to the Indians. It is easy to look at Europeans as vilified strangers in a new land taking that what does not belong to them, such as land, resources, and at times, even people. What if we were to look at things from a different perspective? What roles did the Indians play to impact the creation of the European colonies? Early relations amongst the natives and settlers exhibited a fluid balance of conflict and cooperation that facilitated, for both parties, economic opportunities based on trade, safety in the form of treaties and allies, and the potential gain of power. When establishing colonies, many Europeans did so on the premise that the new lands would provide a source of economic gain via flourishing crops, gainful resources, or sought after precious metals, and while this is true on some measures, another important source of revenue would come in the form of trade amongst the natives. With the influx of colonists came the new desire for foreign goods. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

If there is not a significant difference in bacterial counts between the two wounds then I will reject the hypothesis in favor of the null hypothesis. Results: The effectiveness of honey has been documented since ancient times well before the discovery of microbes and bacteria. The ancient Egyptians and Greeks used honey for treatment of wounds, and unprocessed honey is still used today across the world for wound treatment (Simon et al, 2009). There have been many modern studies to study both the antibacterial effects of honey and its effect on wound healing. While natural unprocessed honey is known to have certain antibacterial properties, the studies that I reviewed for this this paper all reviewed the effectiveness of medical honey. Medical honey is a standardized and sterilized form of honey produced especially for medical uses. Two different brands of honey that were tested separately in the studies I reviewed are Revamil and Medihoney. Both of these honeys are produced in a controlled environment, sterilized, mixed, and tested to ensure a consistent quality and results between each batch (Kwakman et al, 2008). One concern of using honey as a treatment in wound treatment is the natural presence of botulism spores in unprocessed honey (Simon et al, 2009). Honey cannot be filtered so the honey is irradiated to kill the botulism spores. The irradiation ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The spectrum of isoborneol should show an OH peak, though because it s a solid sample, the peak won t be as broad as those seen for OH peaks in liquid samples. My guess is that the peak at ~3600 wavenumbers is the OH group. However, in my result, the wave doesn t seem to be clearly showed. • 14. Descriptive Epidemiological Analysis Of Lyme Disease Essay Descriptive Epidemiological Analysis of Lyme disease Lyme disease is a spirochetal infection, which is transmitted by the bite of infected Ixodes ricinus complex ticks. It is brought about essentially by Borrelia burgdorferi in the United States. Lyme disease was initially perceived clinically in 1977 as Lyme arthritis amid investigations of a group of youngsters in Connecticut who were thought to have adolescent rheumatoid joint inflammation. The etiology of Lyme disease was found to be a spirochete in the mid 1980s. The rate of Lyme disease and the geographic conveyance of cases in the United States have expanded consistently from that point forward (Beard, 2016). Lyme disease is the most widely recognized tick borne disease in the United States and Europe (Beard, 2016). Since the ticks that transmit Lyme disease are frequently encountered in backyards and recreational areas, a high level of public awareness and education should be made available to the general public for areas that have a high level of Lyme disease. From 2005 to 2014, a sum of 251,061 cases of Lyme disease was accounted for in the United States. In 2014, Lyme disease was the fifth most common reportable illness in the United States. Recent studies have shown about roughly 300,000 individuals are determined to have Lyme disease in the United States every year (Beard, 2016). Tribal sovereignty can at times act as a shield for violence. The independent nature of tribes as nations can impede systems established to prevent reoccurring actions of violence within a society. However, as domestic violence is largely a result of societal systems, it is easiest and most thoroughly examined through narratives. Louise Erdrich provides this in Love Medicine. The multi faceted perspectives provide an analysis of the lives of Ojibwe people. No more are women welcome to be respected shaman, religious leaders: Thus, the primary role of this education for Indian girls was to inculcate patriarchal norms and desires into Native communities, so that women would lose their places of leadership in Native communities (Smith, Boarding 90). Marie demonstrates this when she views her noteworthy accomplishments through the position her husband has attained (Erdrich 153 154). In an Anglicized society, Marie s accomplishments of raising children is negligible compared to what her husband can achieve. Marie has internalized this status and cannot see the value in anything she has done to be proud of. Gordie was raised by a woman who has lost her sense of accomplishment and might have grown to be blind to the accomplishments of the women around them. The Anglo s historical belief of gender hierarchy is problematic as negative attitudes toward women are a stronger indicator for domestic violence than alcohol (Mildorf 29). The gender roles weren t just limited to social power, but were further expressed through physical dominance. This was translated by the Native American children s experiences at boarding school, where school leaders showed dominance through physical abuse in addition to the psychological indoctrination. But how do we know where the species originate? Phylogenies help to show us how all kinds of species are related to each other, and why. These relationships are put into what can be called a cladogram, which links species to common ancestors, in turn showing where, when, how, and why these ancestors diverged to form new species. Without phylogenies, it would be extremely difficult to put species in specific categories or relate them to one another. To test these hypothesis, a multitude of data is compiled to observe the stability behind the inferences made. In this article, one main experiment was discussed through the collection and analysis of two retrofitted matrices, phylogenetic analyses, and molecular scaffolds. In one matrice, Eunotosaurus was added to a diapsid focused data set, while turtles were added to an anapsid focused data set. The diapsid sets included a broad sampling of diapsids, which placed turtles as sisters to sauropterygians. The anapsid set, on the other hand, included a broad sampling of anapsids, especially parareptiles. Turtles were not included in the anapsid set. When the experiment moves on to the phylogenetic analysis, Bayesian inferences and parsimony were brought into the mix. After these analyses, the experiment finally includes molecular scaffolding. Benefits Of Using Pvc Used For An Enterprise Of Pvc Furniture CHAPTER 5 RESULT DISCUSSION 5.1 RESULT DISCUSSION It can be easily understood by this paper that there are enormous benefits of using PVC in various applications. Setting up an enterprise of PVC furniture can give us high returns at low input cost. Initial set up cost of PVC furniture enterprise is also less as compared to other enterprises of same level. This project requires less area because of its simple fabrication process and less machines required with reduced inventory. Dedicating ourselves towards protecting environment it can save thousands/lakhs of trees which would otherwise be used in making furniture. Also precious earth metals can be saved for more purposeful use by using PVC in many applications. Polyvinyl chloride (PVC) pipe are leading the way in replacing the various other materials that have been previously used in pipe construction; they have only been scarcely used in the past, however over the past 30 years they have proven themselves to be more than worthy replacements for the conventional materials such as steel and iron. PVC has a myriad of advantages over traditionally used materials. For starters, PVC and PE pipe are very durable materials; they are just as strong as iron, which is crucial due to pipes exposure to both internal and external pressures. When you think about the two gaming is the most obvious thing that comes to mind. However, many people don t know about the other uses of this booming technology. So, what are ways that virtual and augmented reality technology can be used? Virtual and Augmented Let s start off with what we know about virtual and augmented reality. Virtual reality (VR) is a computer technology that uses VR headsets that are head mounted goggles with a screen in front of the eyes that generate realistic video and with speakers or headphones produce sounds that simulate a user s physical presence in an imaginary, sometimes real, environment. The user using VR equipment is able to look around the artificial world and with another device such as a game controller the user can move about in it and interact with the world they are in. Augmented reality (AR) is similar to virtual reality but it is a live direct or indirect view of a physical real world environment whose elements are augmented by computer generated sensory software. Basically a device such as your cellphone that as view of reality in real time from its camera and with AR overlaying software is modified by ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Asabi al nuzūl is the term for occasions or reasons for the revelations and Succinctly put, it captures the historical and contextual investigations that various verses and suras of the Quran provoked (). Some of the verses may have been revealed by Muhammad in response to a question he was asked, but for many of the verses there is no specific reason for their revelations. In Q109 some grammatical peculiarities can be observed and are questioned. One profound objection is the objective pronoun used in the third verse of Q 109, what I worship . Should not, the grammarians asked, the correct expression be You do not worship whom I worship? After all, God is a who , not a what (). This question is answered by Al Tūsi by saying the what in this phrase is referring to an Idol. The next question regarding the repetition in the verses is answered simply as repetition is used as a rhetorical device to provide emphasis on a statement. This article provides a strong secular disposition and does answer many common fundamental questions in understanding the verses of the Qur an. It provides a better understanding of the setting when these verses were written and why they were written in such a way. • 37. Theme Of The Graveyard Book CORE The Graveyard Book (Neil Gaiman) In The Graveyard Book , the author, Neil Gaiman conforms to the conventions of fantasy genre, by making the novel have a deep and much hidden meaning, which the reader may not identify at first glance. However, Neil Gaiman also subverts from the conventions of fantasy genre, because of the reversal in roles of traditional characters, in typical fantastical stories. The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman, is a children s fantasy novel. It will take more than just a couple of good hearted souls to raise this child. It will, said Silas, take a graveyard. This quote shows that although Mr and Mrs Owens are ghosts, they can still be kind and loving towards others. Another character in The Graveyard Book , who has an unordinary characteristic, compared to traditional fantasy characters, is Silas, who is a vampire, but nonetheless, looks after and provides for Bod, as his guardian. This shows how Neil Gaiman s book subverts from traditional characters, because in typical fantastical stories, supernatural characters, such as ghosts and vampires, are constantly portrayed as having a bad or evil nature. In The Graveyard Book , Neil Gaiman most likely subverted from the fantasy genre, to make his book original and unique, rather than to follow the conventional story line. Another reason as to why Neil Gaiman subverted from the fantasy genre, is to show a pleasant and friendly side to supernatural characters, which are often portrayed as evil. • 39. Beowulf Leadership Analysis In the fantasy world found within the story of Beowulf; Hrothgar, the wise king of the Danes, offers Beowulf some important lessons of leadership. Hrothgar, recognizing Beowulf s nobility and strength, talks to him about how he should act to be a good ruler when he becomes king. The characteristics of good leadership that Hrothgar mentions still hold true today, through people like politicians, and business executives. Hrothgar s sermon not only provides an insight into what leaders like these should do, it aims to bring to light what leaders should not do. To Hrothgar, a true leader should not be wicked to their people; rather, they should show kindness and be loved by their people. While talking about a previous ruler of the Danes, Hrothgar tells Beowulf that his rise in the world brought little joy to the Danish people, only death and destruction (McArthur). In order to keep the people happy, it is important to be open to them and generous. Beowulf does this when he becomes king of the Geats by becoming a ring giver to his people (Loughman). For example, after slaying the monster Grendel, Hrothgar rewards Beowulf, with a victory gift, an embroidered banner; also breast mail; and a sword carried high (Post). In today s society, rewarding swords and armor to every staff member at a company is a bit outlandish, nevertheless; business executives can take away from this by rewarding the work that the people of their company put in, rather than ignoring the needs and lives ... • 41. Environmental Impact And Sustainability Issues Related For... Environmental Impact and Sustainability Issues related to PBDEs In chapter fourteen of our textbook, Environment: The Science Behind The Stories, it is made clear that the United States does not use the precautionary principle approach when it comes to evaluating how toxic a substance is (Withgott Laposata, 2014, p. 382). This lack of precaution has proven to be dangerous when it comes to chemicals, especially when using polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs). PBDEs are chemically engineered flame retardants used during the manufacturing process of clothing, bedding, and many other household goods. These flame retardants work by eliminating the fire s oxygen supply, resulting in less damage to the item and a decrease in the chance of a larger fire (Hester Harrison, 2013, p. 45). While PBDEs may have been necessary during a time when there were fewer fire regulations, it is clear that the negative effects of these flame retardants outweigh the benefits in today s times. According to the journal of Environmental Science Technology (2016), the toxicity of PBDEs was first discovered in Sweden, when a study exposed an unsafe and increasing level of flame retardants in the breast milk of women. This study showed that PBDEs were potentially toxic and highly bioaccumulative, meaning that they accumulate in the body instead of being broken down. PBDEs were identified as mutagens, as well as possible carcinogens. Because of these findings, PBDEs were banned in some countries and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 42. Similarities Between Witchcraft, Wicca, And Paganism Introduction The terms Witchcraft, Wicca, and Paganism are often used interchangeably. However, the terms have very different meanings and each term has a complex history. First, I will discuss each terms brief history and then their definitions. Finally, at the end, I will sum up my conclusions concerning the terms similarities and differences. Witchcraft The history of Witchcraft is difficult to trace because it remained a hidden practice for most of its early history. Several of the scholars I researched argued that Witchcraft never existed and was just the product of creative imaginations. However, noted religious scholar, Mircea Eliade, argues that evidence suggests that Witchcraft was a very ancient practice. Standard dictionary definitions define Witches as people who practice magick. However, the definition of the word Witch has evolved over many centuries. For example, the Anglo Saxon word Wicca or Wicce simply refers to a male or female seer or person who can find out information by using majick. Automobiles, home appliances, and entertainment changed how Americans spent their time and money. During the early to mid 20th century America went through an economical depression, two wars, and recessions, this caused many Americans to go through stages of poverty, fear, and wealth. At the turn of the century many homes were cleaned by hand, food was prepared in stoves, and children played in sitting rooms or outside. Technology allowed for changes to be made in the home over the course of just a few years with the introduction of toasters, refrigerators, televisions, and vacuum cleaners. Cooking for the household became easier with the advancements of gas and eventually electric ranges. Busch describes how the shift from gas range to electric range was beneficial as the units were smaller allowing more space in the kitchen, there was better temperature control, and oven heat control and exterior coolness since older gas ranges lacked oven thermostats and insulation. Refrigerators had been around for years, but were large and took up much of the room in a kitchen. Isenstadt states, Electric refrigerators in the 1920s and 1930s were seen as a large step toward modernization of the home. • 45. The Trials Of The Nuremberg Trials It is a pleasant autumn day in Buenos Aires, Argentina, in 1960. Suddenly, agents from Israel s intelligence agency, Mossad, tackled a man to the ground (Lichtblau, The Nazis Next Door 68). Unbeknownst to spectators, that man was Adolf Eichmann, aide to the Fascist dictator Adolf Hitler. Along with Hitler and other Third Reich Nazis, he had organized the Holocaust a massive genocide murdering eleven million people. How is it possible that, after all of these years, Eichmann remained hidden? How is it possible that the Nuremberg War Crimes Trials, which were held by the Allied Powers after World War II, did not execute this man? The Nuremberg Trials were a series of thirteen trials held between 1945 and 1949 to prosecute some Nazi war criminals. The trials were held in Nuremberg, Germany, because its courthouse was not damaged from the war. The four Allied Powers held the hearings, and the best known trial was the Trial of Major War Criminals ( Nuremberg Trials ). The fact of the matter is that not many Nazis were actually convicted in the Nuremberg Trials, even though these court proceedings were supposed to bring Nazis to justice. Overall, the Nuremberg Trials were not effective in prosecuting Nazi war criminals. This is because few Nazis were executed, many fled to South America, the U.S. enlisted them as spies, and they became top scientists in the United States Space Program. One reason why the Nuremberg Trials were not effective is because only ten Nazis were ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The planet (and Walt Disney s beloved character) holds a special place in a lot of people s hearts. Yet, this only became clear to me after reading The Pluto Files by Neil deGrasse Tyson. I remember when Pluto s classification changed from being a planet to a dwarf planet however, I was never aware of how big of a controversy it caused. The fact that there was a conference deciding whether or not we should keep Pluto as our ninth planet was not something I was aware of previously to this book. Tyson does a wonderful job explaining the story of Pluto and not only the how the planet was reclassified but also why. As we spoke about in class Pluto does not really fit into the categories of being a planet, this was one of the major arguments as to why Pluto should not be considered our nineth planet anymore. I believe that it is interesting that some people were trying to then create a classification specifically for Pluto.
