Stockholm Syndrome In Beauty And The Beast
Both the protagonists in the Beauty in the Beast trope display the characteristics of Stockholm
syndrome. Beauty and the Beast is a tale that has withstood time. The tale can be traced back to 2nd
century AD Cupid and Psyche by Lucius Apuleius Madaurensis. Stockholm syndrome is a
psychological syndrome in which a person being held captive begins to identify with and grow
sympathetic to his or her captor (Stockholm Syndrome 1). There are three main psychological
characteristics to Stockholm syndrome, the first being that the hostage develops positive feelings
towards their captor, the second being that the captor also develops feelings for the hostage, and the
final one being that the hostage has negative feelings towards the authorities ... Show more content on

The first characteristic of Stockholm syndrome is the hostage develops positive feelings towards their
captor and sympathizes with them. In The Toad (1869) by François Marie Luzel the beauty displays
the first characteristic of Stockholm syndrome and ends up developing feelings for the beast, which is
a toad in this version. The toad forces the father to give him one of his daughter so the youngest
daughter becomes his hostage and succumbs to the disgusting toad s wishes and marries him. An
example of the female lead displaying her positive feelings for the toad is when the toad leaves her
and she continues pursuing him despite the toad becoming abusive and punching her in the face
(Luzel 228). Namyak et al. a group of researchers from the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral
Sciences in London state this bond develops as part of the victim s defense mechanism to allow them
to sympathize with their captor, leading to an acceptance of the situation, limiting defiance⁄aggression
toward the captor and thus maintaining survival in an otherwise potentially high risk scenario (4 5).
This proves that she has developed Stockholm syndrome for survival purposes because Beauty is at
risk so she is forced to have positive feelings for the toad and love him despite the unhappiness of
being torn away from her father and siblings. The maiden searches for the toad for two years straight
out of her devotion and positive feelings towards him. The maiden continues the pursuits,

Boffi: Managing internationalisation in luxury goods
Executive summary:
Nowadays, being competitive isn t an option but more an obligation.
Through this report, we identified the well known Italian Boffi, specialised in kitchen and bathroom
industry. How Boffi did to be one of the most important Italian producers of kitchens and bathrooms
in the luxury field? What was its strategy? How can they improve their sales and market share? Those
are the question that we tried to answer, with some theoretical aspects as the five competitive forces
and the value chain or Porter or even the SWOT analysis, without forgetting the PESTEL study and
some concrete examples. By analysing the

making each product unique. Those products are in the influence of an art director who is a designer

Alliance: Boffi has alliance with high end brand. This partnership enhances its activity, and makes the

Altagamma, an association of luxury Italian design companies who enjoy an
International reputation. The main aim of the association is to promote Italian brands, style, culture

The Implications Of Auteur
The concept of Auteur was first introduced by Andre Bazin in an essay featured in a 1954 edition of
Cahier du Cinema, often referred to as camera stylo or signature style as a way of critiquing French
new wave cinema. This theory allowed film to be criticised and analysed in the same way as other
creative platforms such as art and literature. By identifying the director as auteur as opposed to just
Metteur en Scène it transformed them into an artisté, by assuming creative control they in turn gave a
film a certain style. The auteur was a director consistently expressing his own unique obsessions, the
other was a competent, even highly competent, filmmaker, but lacking the consistency which betrayed
the profound involvement of a personality ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Today, with the growing celebrity culture, influence of production companies and high budgets
designated to films nowadays the idea that a director can be an auteur is merely a fantasy. Godard
himself in a recent interview said I am not an auteur, well, not now anyway...we once believed we
were auteurs but we weren t. We had no idea, really. Film is over. It s sad nobody is really exploring it.
But what to do? And anyway, with mobile phones and everything, everyone is now an auteur.
(Godard,) The actuation behind films is sales. Even artistic films are driven by sales. The auteur that
exists in today s Hollywood is one designed by production companies such as the crew Tim Burton
works with on each of his films so that each movie is instantly recognisable or character building the
director such as Scorsese appearing to live the gangster lifestyle so that when we watch his films we
feel we are getting a sense of who he

Does Medea Play The Role Of A Tragic Hero
While tragic heroes traditionally are the victim or pawn in a fate that they do not have much control
over, Medea, in this case, does not fit the script. She seeks her own revenge while using powers that
she already has. It does not seem that very many outside forces effect her, and if they do, Medea
seems to willingly succumb. Despite these peculiarities, she does possess one characteristic that is
similar to a tragic hero. Tragic heroes almost always know what it means to suffer. Medea knows what
it means to suffer, and this, despite her lacking a few tragic hero characteristics, is what ultimately
allow her to play the role of a tragic hero. Aristotle said that for a protagonist to become a tragic hero,
they must evoke in the audience

Goodness is about character integrity, honesty, kindness, generosity, moral courage, and the like. More

Cross Cultural Communication Is Essential For Todays...
Cross cultural communication is essential to todays business world. Unfortunately, there are many
boundaries that can cause miscommunication when communicating cross culturally. This paper will
discuss three patterns that I believe have the ability to degrade cross cultural communication.
Understanding the barriers of each of these patterns will help you to have more effective
communication. As you look at society you notice that we continue to grow culturally. We live in a
society that promotes business that expands pass our borders. So it is very necessary that we

In a society with a low power distance members feel entitled to power. With low power distance
society is more democratic and hierarchal. Whereas with high power distance, power is not shared
things are very unequal. The people with power make all of the rules. Examples of a large power
system is Korea, and example of a small power system is Norway. Understanding power distance is
essential to successful cross cultural communication. power distance denotes the degree to which less
powerful members of a society take inequality for granted. Hofstede explains that though inequality
exists in all societies, the level of tolerance to it, changes from one to culture to another. (Toprak,
Genc Kumtepe) Power distance looks at how members of society who have little or no power respond
to the distribution of power. A person who comes from a society with low power distance would be
very confused if they attended a meeting in Korea a culture with a high power distance. For example,
in a high power distance society a manager may look down on his employee, the employee will
understand that his manager holds all of the power and he goes to him for direction. In a low power
distance society an employee would see themselves as equal to their manager.
A great example of high power distance can be seen in country like Korea which I have mentioned
before. If you walked into a corporate board meeting in Korea, you may be caught of guard if you re

Biography The piece that was chosen was a cast bronze sculptor called Mantime in the American
Painting and Sculptors exhibition from the El Paso Art Museum. This piece was created by Harry
Geffert in 1995. Geffert is an American sculptor who was born in Live Oak County, Texas in 1934. As
of today he lives and works at Crowely, Texas. Geffert has a Master degree from New Mexico
Highlands University, Las Vegas, New Mexico and a Bachelor s degree in South West Texas State
University in San Marcos, Texas. Harry Geffert is mostly known for his sculptors; and continues to
create them as of today. (Worley, 2011) Perspective The Mantime is captivating and interesting to
view. The whole sculptor is made of bronze; which I find very impressive that one can add much
details to the work. The sculptor is large in size. But the idea that Geffert try to demonstrate is far
beyond my comprehension. For one, this is the first time which I heard of Geffert and see his work.
Yet, the idea I take a way from this sculptor is based on the small figures presented. The orbs, come in
different sizes 2 small and 1 large size; these orbs may represent as Mother Nature. Then come along
the complimentary features of nature itself. The trees, flowers and plants, along with the multiple little
people figurines around the environment. I would assume based on the so called planet and the little
people; I would guess that Geffert s artwork may represent domination or conquer around the globe.

Personal Trainer Certified Through The National Strength...
A particular stressful situation that occurred within the last year was my unrealistic goal to become
Personal Trainer certified through the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) in
three months (over the summer). What made this goal difficult was the fact that it took me a long time
each day to finally sit down before my book to study, there were days I had to take care of my
grandma in place of her other caregiver, spending too much time at the gym, wasting time on the
computer, wasting time on my phone and on social media, and consecutive days where I pushed
studying off. All of these points really made focusing on studying hard. Each day my intentions were
to get to work and work hard, but just the thought of being in the action of studying repelled me from
sitting down and doing so. In all honesty, some days were easier than others, but the majority weren t
as so. To add to all of this, I had the pressure of the promise I d made to so many people of being
certified before starting this last semester of college. Given this goal I had for myself, and knowing
that getting focused on the work each day wouldn t be easy, I had a select few hold me accountable for
getting my studying done. The support systems I had in place were my mom, girlfriend at the time,
and my dentist, who I was training at night, five days a week. My mom was definitely the one who
was on my case the most about how much I d gotten done each day she d ask every day after work.

six players have tried for or made the pro leagues telling us that football is not a good career. The boys
envision themselves playing for some of the biggest colleges in the nation, however for many they

What Are Primates Unique
Question 1: What defines a primate What defines a primate? A primate is a unique and intelligent
creature. We as humans fall under the primate category, but there are several types of primates
somewhere between one hundred and ninety and three hundred and fifty species to be a bit more
precise. Primate are unique because of the anatomical characteristics that separate them from other
mammals. For an example their hands and feet, their shoulders and hips, and even their brain those are
only a few traits to mention that separate them from other animals. To better define and understand
primates, it is important to breakdown the primate order. Primates can be broken into two suborders:

Benefits Of Co-Production In Canada
There is a wide range of benefits that a production company can advantage from when it comes to
small scale production, and/or following a path of co production. It can stretch from communal nature
to having more artistic independency on a project to financial management. The Journals of Knud
Rasmussen, a film made by an Inuit production company presents these advantages. By using this
approach these production companies have more accessibility, and international success. This film acts
as a prime example to why films made in Canada can benefit from small scale production, and co

The smaller crews allow for the rotation of roles, a closer intimate crew, and democratic decision over
the direction of the project. In larger scale production there is higher demands from outside sources,
and this limits the creative freedom of the filmmaker. In Baltruschat s article she says, there has been
an increase in the opportunity of co production due to the demand for new indigenous films, and
television content. It is the new markets for this media that has opened up this opportunity, and the use
of new media in ways of distribution technologies, and sophisticated digital production . These kinds
of productions have an ease of technology, and allows for the distribution to be international. This film

for a particular task is not required, instead the smaller crew works collectively to put it all together.

Descriptive Essay On Beer
One Friday night, a few of my coworkers went to Stan s Blue Note on Greenville Avenue in Dallas.
This bar had a selection of over 100 bottles of beer. They had a list of the beers. If you wanted, you
were able to register and the bartenders would keep a list of the beers that you drank each time you
visited. After you drank all of the beers on the list, you were given a t shirt that indicated your
achievement. At the time, most of the good beers were imports. That evening, I had Polar from
Venezuela and Dragon Stout from Jamaica. Up until that point, Dragon Stout was the most unique
tasting beer that I had ever tried. At first I laughed that it tasted like a cross between beer and paint. As
I sipped it and savored the flavor, it grew on me. I liked it so much, I ordered a second bottle. The
bartender thought that I was crazy. The bartenders had a microphone behind the bar. They used to
harass male patrons who ordered wine coolers. After I got my second bottle of Dragon Stout, the
bartender grabbed the microphone, pointed at me and laughed that I was one sick man. I went to Stan
s Blue Note only three or four times after that. I did not attempt to get the t shirt. Each time I was
there, I ordered a Dragon Stout. Dragon Stout was the beer that got me interested in beer tasting.
After this, even though I was interested, I did not actively pursue seeking new beers to try. I casually
tried new beers, but I did not make an effort. I did not think of keeping

Public Shame Essay
Humiliation can be defined as a strong feeling of embarrassment or mortification (vocabulary.com).
Public humiliation, or public shame, has impacted the lives of many people around the world in that
novels and movies have been based around this harsh topic. The influence of public shame is harmful,
because it can cause terrible consequences, but on the other hand, there are benefits. For instance,
public humiliation can help people to learn from their mistakes, and it can teach valuable lessons to
the people who have done something wrong. In the Scarlet Letter, written by Nathaniel Hawthorne, an
adulteress, Hester Prynne, must wear a scarlet A on her chest to mark her shame for the whole town to

millions who was eventually attacked in a way that seemed worse than her original statement. This
means, that people can become defensive and violent online to the point of threatening others. To

gossip as mentioned in Source A, and the Internet as mentioned in Sources B and C. Public shame can
influence violence along with hatred to cause professional troubles and distress. For example,
Lewinsky declares in her Ted Talk, All the while, someone is making money off the back of someone

unaware they become about the suffering of the person being humiliated and embarrassed. Lewinski

Iron Deficiency And Its Effects
Researches done in the past have showed that iron deficiency can cause physiologic, morphologic, and
biochemical changes in the orangs affected by it before there is a change in hematocrit (Beard JL,
2001).
Iron is an essential micronutrient that is needed by the body because it is required for several
neurological metabolic processes such as: myelination, cytokinesis, electron transport, antioxidant
enzyme activity, and biogenic metabolism (Hyman, 2012).
Iron also plays an important role in the developing central nervous system of an infant due to the fact
that iron participates in a wide variety of cellular function and is essential for normal neural
development and physiology (Hyman, 2012). Thus, iron deficiency during an infant s neurological
development is a critical point because it can significantly impact a variety of behavioral and cognitive
function.
The part of the brain that is affected by iron depletion is the deep cerebral nuclei, substantia nigra, and
basal ganglia (Hyman, 2012). These three parts of the brain are the ones that have the highest
concentration of iron in an adult s brain and they are involved in the coordination and motor control of
the body (Lozoff B, 2011). An iron deficient adult also shows a decrease in dopamine
neurotransmission, which relates to the motor control (Lozoff B, 2011). In addition, dopamine also
plays a role in the prefrontal striatal system, which is involved in selective memory, spatial, and
working memory (Lozoff B,

The Impact Of Technology On The Allied Victory During...
How did the development of new technology aid in the allied victory during World War Two? The
Second World War (WWII) was a devastating global war that lasted from 1939 to 1945, causing
struggle and suffering across much of the world s nations. During this period, technological
developments increased significantly and advancements in every field of war were emerging quickly
and leaving huge impressions. New inventions and scientific principles emerged during WWII in
fields such as weaponry, communications and effective defensive means that helped lead the allies to
total victory. Allied weapons technology developed at a rapid rate during WWII and was crucial in
overpowering the German and associated forces. Developments in tanks, bombs and other weapons
across many allied states, contributed to their victory. New communication technology meant that
forces could crypt and encrypt secret messages and detect enemy forces from never seen before
distances, making the idea of surprise attack virtually impossible. Defensive technology, although not
necessarily considered as a large part of the war effort, played a crucial role in protecting the allied
countries from invasion or surrender and ultimately helped defeat the axis forces. Defensive systems
were implemented by the allied countries including Chain Home and the Maginot line that helped win
back control. Development of weapons technology is what primarily changed the tides of WWII,
essentially winning the war for the

Conformity Of Skipping School
Conformity is the act of changing behavior as a result of real or imagined group pressure. Everyone at
one point has experienced this type of pressure at one point in their life. I remember this one time
when I was confirmed into doing something because everyone was doing it. This happened back in
my high school years. There was a point in the eleventh grade that I felt kind of peer pressured into
skipping school. I never really had the urge to be a bad kid and go skipping. I actually loved coming to
school. I loved learning new things I was always that kind of person. But of course I started hanging
out with the wrong group of people. Which I never should have but I wanted to be so called cool. I
wanted and had the desire to fit in always, I always wanted acceptance and to be popular. I honestly
regret ever going skipping. It wasn t only once that it happened. It occurred multiple times until it got
out of hand and I was caught by my parents. I never heard the last of it from them even until this day I
still hear it. From that point on I was always brought to school; until the day I graduated. I regret these
poor decisions I made, I feel like if I wouldn t have done it I would have finished my schooling by
now because I found it acceptable to skip school. All because I wanted to be accepted and be one ...

Persuasive Essay On Robotics
Despite being stereotyped as nerdy by many, robotics is a rewarding extracurricular that can be
beneficial to anyone. Robotics is a program centralized around STEM, which stands for science,
technology, engineering, and math. Today, many schools will have a robotics program, most of which
are run by either VEX or FIRST. All of these programs are centralized around a team working together
to build a robot to the best of their ability to score as many points as possible. All the while,
participants also learn teamwork and technical skills that can be applied to the real world. I have been
a part of VEX Robotics Competition for three years, and prior to that participated in FIRST Lego
League for five years. Throughout this essay, I will mainly focus on VEX Robotics Competition, as
that is the program that I am currently a part of. STEM and robotics programs in schools must become
more available and receive more time and attention because they help train students for engineering
fields which are steadily growing, assist students in being accepted into colleges, and transform
lessons in school into practical, real world skills. To begin, engineering fields have shown consistent
growth, so it is important that students are prepared for pursuing these fields. Experience early on with
practical skills in a robotics club setting can give students an edge if they choose to go into
engineering. For this reason, it is important that robotics be available to as many students as

The NCBE appealed the injunction on the basis that Enyart was unlikely to succeed on merits, that she
had now shown irreparable harm from not having the accommodations, and that the injunction is not
in the public s favor. Enyart argued that the inability to use her preferred accommodation caused her
increased eyestrain and nausea that led to her inability to complete the questions in the allotted time.
This meant that her disability had severe impact on her performance on the exam. Despite being
named the prevailing party and the District Court issuing a primary injunction, Enyart had not yet
received her preferred accommodations on the NCBE administered sections of the Multistate Bar
Exam. The NCBE puts forth the claim that the plaintiff, Enyart has not shown that she is likely to
succeed on merit with the accommodations. They also state that Enyart has not shown proof of
irreparable harm having occurred due to not having her preferred accommodations. Furthermore, they
claim that they have provided satisfactory alternate accommodations other than TextZoom and JAWS
by providing access to a reader, audio tapes, braille version of the exam, and CCTV footage all of
which Enyart has used previously as accommodations. Enyart denies these claims under the basis that
she has proven likely to succeed on merit already in district court and that by not having the necessary
accommodations she endured unneeded harm and thus inability to complete the exam. She also

Cosmological Argument
Examine the cosmological argument for the existence of God.
The cosmological argument is an a posteriori argument which intends to prove that there is an
intelligent being that exists; the being is distinct from the universe, explains the existence of the
universe, and is omniscient, omnipotent, omnipresent and omnibenevolent. The basic notion of
cosmological arguments is that the world and everything in it is dependent on something other than
itself for its existence. It explains that everything has a cause, that there must have been a first cause,
and that this first cause was itself uncaused.
Many philosophers have explored the cosmological argument, including Aquinas, in much depth,
through his Five Ways in the Summa Theologica. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Frederick Copleston was a priest, and historian of philosophy who supported Aquinas rejection of
infinite regress. Copleston reformulated the argument by concentrating on contingency, which he
discussed in depth during a radio debate with Bertrand Russell in 1947. Copleston, like Aquinas,
argued that there are things in the universe which are contingent, for example, us we would not have
existed if our parents had not met. All things in the world are similar to this, nothing in the world is
self explanatory, and everything depends on something else for its existence. Therefore, we are forced
to search for an external explanation. The explanation must lead us to a cause which is self
explanatory, i.e. one which contains within itself, the reason for its own existence a necessary being.
The conclusion must be God. Copleston argues that if we don t accept the existence of an unmoved
mover , like Aquinas suggested, there is no explanation for the universe at all. Copleston believes the
universe is gratuitous without a first cause, because without an explanation, nothing has meaning
Everything is gratuitous. This garden, this city, and myself; when you suddenly realise it, it makes you
feel sick and everything begins to drift... that s nausea .
Leibniz, who wrote On the Ultimate Origination of Things , also supported the cosmological
argument; his argument is sometimes called the argument from

Argumentative Essay About Monsters
Monsters. They appear in nightmares, under beds, and in the distance lurking around. This is how the
world perceives monsters, but according to Webster dictionary it s a powerful person or thing that
cannot be controlled and that causes many problems. There are constant encounters with them every
day because they make up who someone is. They re everywhere, in plain sight and other times
disguised, sometimes it s easier to see some more than others. Every monster has malicious ways even
if it s not intentional, it s human reaction, from little behaviors to extreme ones.
Some might feel like monsters were put here to destroy and tear humanity down, and that they ve been
that way since the beginning of their known creation. However, this is not true. To give a common

education and the associated fees, such as tuition, books and supplies, and living expenses (Mitchell
15). While it may sound like an inviting way to pay for college, it comes with its downfalls. Rapidly
rising college tuition costs have made student debt the only option to pay for college for many
students (Kristof). Student loans are increasing $3,055 every second (Kristof). The average student in

It would be like letting someone buy a house, but not giving them the key to get in. The students may
have the GPA to get in and the extracurriculars, but the thing stopping them is money. Private colleges
are twenty seven percent more likely to take part in gapping than public colleges. Private colleges are
a lot more expensive and so they need to bait their aspiring students by allowing them to be accepted,
but not allowing them to actually go because they cannot afford it. At the end of the day, colleges need
to face the problem head on instead of creating new way to go around the issue of tuition and those
who cannot afford it. Today, there are many grants and extra loans one can either win or apply for,
including the Pell Grant. A Pell Grant is a subsidy the United States Federal Government provides for
students who need it to pay for college. They are limited to students with financial need, who have not
earned their first bachelor s degree. The Pell Grant program gives out around $34.3 billion per year.
These grants help many of those who are struggling with gapping or just with financial aid alone get
pay for their education. These loans increase everybody else s tuition by fifty cents on the dollar. In
some cases loans are not only putting those who use them in financial distress, but also those people
who pay tuition. The Upper Class of the United States is still included in receiving loans, even though

Biodiversity In Belize Essay
Biodiversity in Belize The South Caye Marine Reserve region is located along the Belize Barrier Reef.
This reef is the second largest in the world, and the largest in the northern hemisphere. Two very
important ecosystems in the Belize Barrier Reef area are the coral reef, and the mangrove trees. These
ecosystems assist in determining the biodiversity of the area, affecting animals of the water, land, and
sky. Without each other these two ecosystems would diminish, they rely on the other to thrive. These
two ecosystems benefit the environment, and also the economy. Since the economy tends to be viewed
as more important than preservation of nature, the government had to step in and create laws that will
preserve the ecosystem. Mangroves are the centre of a very intricate ecosystem. As a whole,
mangroves are sometimes considered to be the most complex and productive ecosystem on earth
(Frost, Emily). Many individuals consider the mangrove trees to be where the sea meets the land,
since it benefits animals of all kinds. There are four different species of mangroves located in Belize,
these include: the red mangove (Rhizophora mangle), the black mangove (Avicennia germinans), the
white mangrove (Laguncalaria racemosa), and the buttonwood (Conocarpus erectus). The red
mangrove is usually found along the water on the cayes and waterways, the black mangroves are
found farther from the waters edge, followed by the white mangrove and buttonwood being found
furthest inland.

The hospital was on top of a large waste container, which contaminated the water and the building
itself. Soldiers lay in their own body fluids on stretchers throughout the hallways as pests ran about.
Supplies dwindled due to the increase in patients, even water was being rationed.
Florence set to work quickly. Her team and the wounded that were mobile, scrubbed the entire
hospital. Florence spent a great deal of her time caring for the soldiers. She quickly gained the nick
name the lady with the lamp and the angel of Crimea because she walked the halls at night with a
lamp, while caring for the soldiers. The death rate dropped by two thirds because she improved the
sanitary conditions of the hospital. In addition to improving sanitary conditions, she also created a
number of different patient services to improve the quality of their hospital stay including, meal
services, laundry, and classroom services. Florence stayed in Crimea for a year and a half. She left
once the war had ended. When she left in 1856, she was welcomed back with a hero s welcome. She
was rewarded by the Queen with an engraved brooch, which later came to be known as Nightingale
Jewel, and also receiving $250,000 from the British government. Florence used the money to open the
St. Thomas Hospital, and the Nightingale Training School for Nurses. Nightingale gave the nursing
profession a boost in the popularity; it no longer was a lower class job.

An Army One Me Analysis
Humans are judgmental creatures. One of our most significant philosophy is not judging a book by its
cover , which examines our habit to judge. We did not purposely develop this questionable
characteristic; we seem to have been with this evolutionary trait. We judge everything as a survival
instinct to protect ourselves; the perception we create from our personal opinions determine whether
we believe something is friendly or foe. As with everything, we judge ourselves, and we tend to be our
biggest critic. We constantly judge ourselves, but why? People have referred to this type of judgement
as self esteem. Self esteem is measured by how positive we view ourselves: the more positive our

We typically achieved this happiness by winning, being successful, or accomplishing an objective.
However, not everyone is able achieve happiness by themselves. Pharmaceutical companies
challenged this problem and developed anti depressants to counteract the feeling of depression and

Japan he examines how pharmaceutical companies created SSRIs, anti depressants, on the basis to
counteract depression in the mind. Unbalanced serotonin levels have been linked with people who

(Watters 529). Even though the scientific evidence loosely supported the effectiveness of SSRIs, the

It is important to note that what is unethical is not necessarily illegal. In our everyday life, many
individuals and organizations faced with common ethical problems. There have been developments in
biology and cybernetics that lead to a comprehensive theory of morality in which the rational nature of
ethics can more easily be explained. Not only can the rise of ethical systems be linked to biological
concepts, but ethics can be tied to mathematical concepts as well by way of cybernetic science. When
ethics and cybernetics are combined, the resulting theory turns on scientific principles instead of
philosophical speculations. There are several important ideas linked to the emergence of ethical
systems:
Ethical systems evolve in response to the human need to survive in an environment where they are
competing with many other organisms for scarce resources;
Humans survive and flourish by efficiently using their resources and energies;
The evolution of ethical systems is a function of an ongoing cybernetic process involving all humans,
animals, and organisms.

  • 2. Stockholm Syndrome In Beauty And The Beast Both the protagonists in the Beauty in the Beast trope display the characteristics of Stockholm syndrome. Beauty and the Beast is a tale that has withstood time. The tale can be traced back to 2nd century AD Cupid and Psyche by Lucius Apuleius Madaurensis. Stockholm syndrome is a psychological syndrome in which a person being held captive begins to identify with and grow sympathetic to his or her captor (Stockholm Syndrome 1). There are three main psychological characteristics to Stockholm syndrome, the first being that the hostage develops positive feelings towards their captor, the second being that the captor also develops feelings for the hostage, and the final one being that the hostage has negative feelings towards the authorities ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The first characteristic of Stockholm syndrome is the hostage develops positive feelings towards their captor and sympathizes with them. In The Toad (1869) by François Marie Luzel the beauty displays the first characteristic of Stockholm syndrome and ends up developing feelings for the beast, which is a toad in this version. The toad forces the father to give him one of his daughter so the youngest daughter becomes his hostage and succumbs to the disgusting toad s wishes and marries him. An example of the female lead displaying her positive feelings for the toad is when the toad leaves her and she continues pursuing him despite the toad becoming abusive and punching her in the face (Luzel 228). Namyak et al. a group of researchers from the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences in London state this bond develops as part of the victim s defense mechanism to allow them to sympathize with their captor, leading to an acceptance of the situation, limiting defiance⁄aggression toward the captor and thus maintaining survival in an otherwise potentially high risk scenario (4 5). This proves that she has developed Stockholm syndrome for survival purposes because Beauty is at risk so she is forced to have positive feelings for the toad and love him despite the unhappiness of being torn away from her father and siblings. The maiden searches for the toad for two years straight out of her devotion and positive feelings towards him. The maiden continues the pursuits, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. The Implications Of Auteur The concept of Auteur was first introduced by Andre Bazin in an essay featured in a 1954 edition of Cahier du Cinema, often referred to as camera stylo or signature style as a way of critiquing French new wave cinema. This theory allowed film to be criticised and analysed in the same way as other creative platforms such as art and literature. By identifying the director as auteur as opposed to just Metteur en Scène it transformed them into an artisté, by assuming creative control they in turn gave a film a certain style. The auteur was a director consistently expressing his own unique obsessions, the other was a competent, even highly competent, filmmaker, but lacking the consistency which betrayed the profound involvement of a personality ... Today, with the growing celebrity culture, influence of production companies and high budgets designated to films nowadays the idea that a director can be an auteur is merely a fantasy. It s sad nobody is really exploring it. But what to do? And anyway, with mobile phones and everything, everyone is now an auteur. (Godard,) The actuation behind films is sales. Even artistic films are driven by sales. The auteur that exists in today s Hollywood is one designed by production companies such as the crew Tim Burton works with on each of his films so that each movie is instantly recognisable or character building the director such as Scorsese appearing to live the gangster lifestyle so that when we watch his films we feel we are getting a sense of who he ... Does Medea Play The Role Of A Tragic Hero While tragic heroes traditionally are the victim or pawn in a fate that they do not have much control over, Medea, in this case, does not fit the script. She seeks her own revenge while using powers that she already has. It does not seem that very many outside forces effect her, and if they do, Medea seems to willingly succumb. Despite these peculiarities, she does possess one characteristic that is similar to a tragic hero. Tragic heroes almost always know what it means to suffer. Medea knows what it means to suffer, and this, despite her lacking a few tragic hero characteristics, is what ultimately allow her to play the role of a tragic hero. Understanding power distance is essential to successful cross cultural communication. power distance denotes the degree to which less powerful members of a society take inequality for granted. Hofstede explains that though inequality exists in all societies, the level of tolerance to it, changes from one to culture to another. (Toprak, Genc Kumtepe) Power distance looks at how members of society who have little or no power respond to the distribution of power. A person who comes from a society with low power distance would be very confused if they attended a meeting in Korea a culture with a high power distance. For example, in a high power distance society a manager may look down on his employee, the employee will understand that his manager holds all of the power and he goes to him for direction. In a low power distance society an employee would see themselves as equal to their manager. A great example of high power distance can be seen in country like Korea which I have mentioned before. This piece was created by Harry Geffert in 1995. Geffert is an American sculptor who was born in Live Oak County, Texas in 1934. As of today he lives and works at Crowely, Texas. Geffert has a Master degree from New Mexico Highlands University, Las Vegas, New Mexico and a Bachelor s degree in South West Texas State University in San Marcos, Texas. Harry Geffert is mostly known for his sculptors; and continues to create them as of today. (Worley, 2011) Perspective The Mantime is captivating and interesting to view. The whole sculptor is made of bronze; which I find very impressive that one can add much details to the work. The sculptor is large in size. But the idea that Geffert try to demonstrate is far beyond my comprehension. For one, this is the first time which I heard of Geffert and see his work. Yet, the idea I take a way from this sculptor is based on the small figures presented. The orbs, come in different sizes 2 small and 1 large size; these orbs may represent as Mother Nature. Then come along the complimentary features of nature itself. The trees, flowers and plants, along with the multiple little people figurines around the environment. I would assume based on the so called planet and the little people; I would guess that Geffert s artwork may represent domination or conquer around the globe. Granted the ... A particular stressful situation that occurred within the last year was my unrealistic goal to become Personal Trainer certified through the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) in three months (over the summer). What made this goal difficult was the fact that it took me a long time each day to finally sit down before my book to study, there were days I had to take care of my grandma in place of her other caregiver, spending too much time at the gym, wasting time on the computer, wasting time on my phone and on social media, and consecutive days where I pushed studying off. All of these points really made focusing on studying hard. Each day my intentions were to get to work and work hard, but just the thought of being in the action of studying repelled me from sitting down and doing so. In all honesty, some days were easier than others, but the majority weren t as so. To add to all of this, I had the pressure of the promise I d made to so many people of being certified before starting this last semester of college. Given this goal I had for myself, and knowing that getting focused on the work each day wouldn t be easy, I had a select few hold me accountable for getting my studying done. We as humans fall under the primate category, but there are several types of primates somewhere between one hundred and ninety and three hundred and fifty species to be a bit more precise. Primate are unique because of the anatomical characteristics that separate them from other mammals. For an example their hands and feet, their shoulders and hips, and even their brain those are only a few traits to mention that separate them from other animals. Iron Deficiency And Its Effects Researches done in the past have showed that iron deficiency can cause physiologic, morphologic, and biochemical changes in the orangs affected by it before there is a change in hematocrit (Beard JL, 2001). Iron is an essential micronutrient that is needed by the body because it is required for several neurological metabolic processes such as: myelination, cytokinesis, electron transport, antioxidant enzyme activity, and biogenic metabolism (Hyman, 2012). Iron also plays an important role in the developing central nervous system of an infant due to the fact that iron participates in a wide variety of cellular function and is essential for normal neural development and physiology (Hyman, 2012). Thus, iron deficiency during an infant s neurological development is a critical point because it can significantly impact a variety of behavioral and cognitive function. The part of the brain that is affected by iron depletion is the deep cerebral nuclei, substantia nigra, and basal ganglia (Hyman, 2012). These three parts of the brain are the ones that have the highest concentration of iron in an adult s brain and they are involved in the coordination and motor control of the body (Lozoff B, 2011). An iron deficient adult also shows a decrease in dopamine neurotransmission, which relates to the motor control (Lozoff B, 2011). The Second World War (WWII) was a devastating global war that lasted from 1939 to 1945, causing struggle and suffering across much of the world s nations. During this period, technological developments increased significantly and advancements in every field of war were emerging quickly and leaving huge impressions. New inventions and scientific principles emerged during WWII in fields such as weaponry, communications and effective defensive means that helped lead the allies to total victory. Allied weapons technology developed at a rapid rate during WWII and was crucial in overpowering the German and associated forces. Developments in tanks, bombs and other weapons across many allied states, contributed to their victory. New communication technology meant that forces could crypt and encrypt secret messages and detect enemy forces from never seen before distances, making the idea of surprise attack virtually impossible. Defensive technology, although not necessarily considered as a large part of the war effort, played a crucial role in protecting the allied countries from invasion or surrender and ultimately helped defeat the axis forces. The cosmological argument is an a posteriori argument which intends to prove that there is an intelligent being that exists; the being is distinct from the universe, explains the existence of the universe, and is omniscient, omnipotent, omnipresent and omnibenevolent. The basic notion of cosmological arguments is that the world and everything in it is dependent on something other than itself for its existence. Frederick Copleston was a priest, and historian of philosophy who supported Aquinas rejection of infinite regress. Copleston reformulated the argument by concentrating on contingency, which he discussed in depth during a radio debate with Bertrand Russell in 1947. Copleston, like Aquinas, argued that there are things in the universe which are contingent, for example, us we would not have existed if our parents had not met. All things in the world are similar to this, nothing in the world is self explanatory, and everything depends on something else for its existence. Therefore, we are forced to search for an external explanation. The explanation must lead us to a cause which is self explanatory, i.e. one which contains within itself, the reason for its own existence a necessary being. The conclusion must be God. Copleston argues that if we don t accept the existence of an unmoved mover , like Aquinas suggested, there is no explanation for the universe at all. Copleston believes the universe is gratuitous without a first cause, because without an explanation, nothing has meaning Everything is gratuitous. • 31. Different Views On Politics, Religion, Or What s Best You... Compare and Contrast two neighborhoods Dewitt, a small town in eastern Iowa with roughly fifty five hundred people residing within its borders. Most of the area around DeWitt is pretty similar, middle class families, white, and hard working. There is country life all around the DeWitt area, and sub divisions like Timber Creek. These two places resemble themselves, but for being so close carry quite a few differences. Both places are rather nice compared to other places in DeWitt and in my mind a lot better than living in a crowded and hectic city like Davenport or Clinton even. Different places bring different views on politics, religion, or what s best to do on your free time. Iowa is definitely more similar throughout the state than ... After talking to some people, the overall response is that they are happy to live there, as it is kind of secluded in the trees and away from town a bit, but also you have good quality neighbors around you. For activities in Timber Creek people of all ages have social gatherings at someone s house and all the neighbors come over drink beer, play cards, or watch the game on T.V. While down the road the kids go to another family s house and has their own gathering there. Joel Kirby describes the people as friendly, respectful and fun people to live around and be a part of. • 32. Argumentative Essay About Monsters Monsters. They appear in nightmares, under beds, and in the distance lurking around. This is how the world perceives monsters, but according to Webster dictionary it s a powerful person or thing that cannot be controlled and that causes many problems. There are constant encounters with them every day because they make up who someone is. They re everywhere, in plain sight and other times disguised, sometimes it s easier to see some more than others. Every monster has malicious ways even if it s not intentional, it s human reaction, from little behaviors to extreme ones. Some might feel like monsters were put here to destroy and tear humanity down, and that they ve been that way since the beginning of their known creation. However, this is not true. • 33. Hall 1. All Over America, Undergraduate And Postgraduate Hall 1 All over America, undergraduate and postgraduate students are feeling the pressure of student loans and their debts. A student loan is a type of loan designed to help students pay for post secondary education and the associated fees, such as tuition, books and supplies, and living expenses (Mitchell 15). While it may sound like an inviting way to pay for college, it comes with its downfalls. Rapidly rising college tuition costs have made student debt the only option to pay for college for many students (Kristof). Student loans are increasing $3,055 every second (Kristof). The average student in America graduates with $35,000 in student loans (Akers 18). In fact, student loans have become so popular, all together students have ... The students may have the GPA to get in and the extracurriculars, but the thing stopping them is money. Private colleges are twenty seven percent more likely to take part in gapping than public colleges. Private colleges are a lot more expensive and so they need to bait their aspiring students by allowing them to be accepted, but not allowing them to actually go because they cannot afford it. At the end of the day, colleges need to face the problem head on instead of creating new way to go around the issue of tuition and those who cannot afford it. Today, there are many grants and extra loans one can either win or apply for, including the Pell Grant. A Pell Grant is a subsidy the United States Federal Government provides for students who need it to pay for college. They are limited to students with financial need, who have not earned their first bachelor s degree. The Pell Grant program gives out around $34.3 billion per year. These grants help many of those who are struggling with gapping or just with financial aid alone get pay for their education. These loans increase everybody else s tuition by fifty cents on the dollar. In some cases loans are not only putting those who use them in financial distress, but also those people who pay tuition. • 34. Biodiversity In Belize Essay Biodiversity in Belize The South Caye Marine Reserve region is located along the Belize Barrier Reef. This reef is the second largest in the world, and the largest in the northern hemisphere. Two very important ecosystems in the Belize Barrier Reef area are the coral reef, and the mangrove trees. These ecosystems assist in determining the biodiversity of the area, affecting animals of the water, land, and sky. Without each other these two ecosystems would diminish, they rely on the other to thrive. These two ecosystems benefit the environment, and also the economy. Since the economy tends to be viewed as more important than preservation of nature, the government had to step in and create laws that will preserve the ecosystem. Mangroves are the centre of a very intricate ecosystem. As a whole, mangroves are sometimes considered to be the most complex and productive ecosystem on earth (Frost, Emily). Many individuals consider the mangrove trees to be where the sea meets the land, since it benefits animals of all kinds. There are four different species of mangroves located in Belize, these include: the red mangove (Rhizophora mangle), the black mangove (Avicennia germinans), the white mangrove (Laguncalaria racemosa), and the buttonwood (Conocarpus erectus). The red mangrove is usually found along the water on the cayes and waterways, the black mangroves are found farther from the waters edge, followed by the white mangrove and buttonwood being found furthest inland. ... The hospital was on top of a large waste container, which contaminated the water and the building itself. Soldiers lay in their own body fluids on stretchers throughout the hallways as pests ran about. Supplies dwindled due to the increase in patients, even water was being rationed. Florence set to work quickly. Her team and the wounded that were mobile, scrubbed the entire hospital. Florence spent a great deal of her time caring for the soldiers. She quickly gained the nick name the lady with the lamp and the angel of Crimea because she walked the halls at night with a lamp, while caring for the soldiers. The death rate dropped by two thirds because she improved the sanitary conditions of the hospital. In addition to improving sanitary conditions, she also created a number of different patient services to improve the quality of their hospital stay including, meal services, laundry, and classroom services. Florence stayed in Crimea for a year and a half. She left once the war had ended. When she left in 1856, she was welcomed back with a hero s welcome. She was rewarded by the Queen with an engraved brooch, which later came to be known as Nightingale Jewel, and also receiving $250,000 from the British government. Florence used the money to open the St. Thomas Hospital, and the Nightingale Training School for Nurses. • 36. An Army One Me Analysis Humans are judgmental creatures. One of our most significant philosophy is not judging a book by its cover , which examines our habit to judge. We did not purposely develop this questionable characteristic; we seem to have been with this evolutionary trait. We judge everything as a survival instinct to protect ourselves; the perception we create from our personal opinions determine whether we believe something is friendly or foe. As with everything, we judge ourselves, and we tend to be our biggest critic. We constantly judge ourselves, but why? People have referred to this type of judgement as self esteem. Pharmaceutical companies challenged this problem and developed anti depressants to counteract the feeling of depression and dismay and enhance happiness in an individual. In Watters The Mega Marketing of Depression of Japan he examines how pharmaceutical companies created SSRIs, anti depressants, on the basis to counteract depression in the mind. Unbalanced serotonin levels have been linked with people who suffer from depression; SSRIs work by maintaining a balance in serotonin levels in you r brain. (Watters 529). Even though the scientific evidence loosely supported the effectiveness of SSRIs, the people of Japan and around the globe were convinced of the benefits of using them. The anti depressant market was seen as a multi billion dollar market; the ability to relieve sadness and depression to promote a happy, healthy lifestyle with a pill easily appeals to humanity s pursuit of happiness. The need to fulfill our happiness was so great that we created our own, our synthetic happiness in the form a pill.
