Marketing Strategy Of A Business At Home N America And The...
Many International firms competed to enter the vast China market for franchising and expanding their
products and services in a market which offers a wide scope of business opportunities mainly the size
of its population and the openness of China on the Western world after so many years of its
protectionist policies. In this respect, Levendary Café, a huge American leading Company operating in
fast food like other American companies such as McDonalds and Kentucky Fried Chicken is trying its
chance to enter the China market but there are some discrepancy of views between the top
management of the Company at home n America and the appointed manager to run the Levendary
Café operations in China, Louis Chen and the new CEO Mia Foster. The new CEO faces many issues
to deal with, the design and look of the Levendary outlets which Chen has changed and even used
some plastic chairs in some outlets to the discontent and disapproval of the top management of the
parent Company in America
When leading companies are established as franchised investing companies in foreign countries as is
the case of Levendary Café , they care to see that their objectives, strategies and approaches to
business are implemented as per the requirements of the parent Company at home where it started
before going International. Therefore the appointed agent or representatives of the Company shall
abide by the requirements and objectives of the Company and shall refer to the parent Company in
America.

Western Painting
Many people say that arts come from life. Whatever you face in your daily experience, all of them
would become the source, the inspiration, the soul of the artwork. In this essay,I would like to focus on
the paintings form of art. How do the paintings reflect the attitude of the artists? How do the paintings
reflect the philosophy and value of the world? No matter you are eastern or western people, paintings
are just not about the skills, but they also convey the feelings of the artists. Needless to say, there is
still a great divergence of traditional Chinese painting and Western painting. Generally speaking,
Chinese painters love to use realistic techniques to express unrealistic things and their feelings in
addition to the fact that they want ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
So I would combine them together as to compare with Chinese painting style more sophisticatedly.
Abstract expressionism is the pioneer of western abstract painting style. It was to use exaggerating
brushwork to express emotions, so it is similar to Xieyi. However, the level of thinking may be quite
different. Most of the artists would like to express their personal feelings like happiness, sadness rather
than national feelings by using objects.(Seitz,1983) By contrast, Color field painting was the
development of Abstract expressionism and the purpose was similar in addition to the fact that
background was tremendously crucial. (Wilkin,2007) The only difference is that the subject matter in
color field painting is the color, the object is not necssarily important.(Artstory foundation) Willem De
Kooning represented the Abstract expressionism while Kenneth Noland represented the color field
painting.Willem De Kooning was the prominent Abstract expressionism painters and urgely objected
to the restrictions imposed by naming movements. He said I m not interested in abstracting or taking
things out or reducing painting to design, form, line, and color. I paint this way because I can keep
putting more things in it drama, anger, pain, love, a figure, a horse, my ideas about space. Through
your eyes it again becomes an emotion or idea. (Artstory foundation). It means he like the freedom of
painting to tell people his emotions. Some of the famous paintings were the women features. In the
other way, Kenneth Noland was an significant painter who insisted on producing his paintings in soak
stain technique. He focused on the choice of color, to determine how the background integrated with
the subject to become a full subject.(Webb,2011)I will use each one of the paintings for the two style
to illustrate its difference and the value

In A P, John Updike utilizes different characters to emphasize on the themes of power, mystery as
allurement, and choices and consequences. This narrative was written by Updike in 1960s. The story
is narrated by one of the character Sammy. He is the protagonist as well as the narrator of the story.
Updike, the writer utilizes his narrative to symbolize different themes i.e. generation crevice, choices
or decisions and their results. Generation crevice is the distinction of mentalities between individuals
of diverse eras or prompting an absence of comprehension. Updike wrote this story to demonstrate the
generation gap and individual choices. Individual choice is referring to freedom of choice for instance:
what an individual wants to wear, to say, to do and way of living etc.

The Effects of Transmissible Spongiform Encephalopathies...
The Effects of Transmissible Spongiform Encephalopathies on Humans
Abstract
Humans have to deal with many different diseases and the ones most disliked are the ones with no
cures. Like cancer, transmissible spongiform encephalopathies have no cure, but they are more rare.
These diseases are prion diseases which cause the brain to deteriorate. Prions are proteins that
sometimes behave like viruses, which mean that they should have some form of nucleic acid, but since
they don t, they cause abnormalities. The nervous system contains many normal prions, but when an
abnormal prion comes along, it transforms all the normal prions into abnormal ones. Bovine
spongiform encephalopathy is found in cattle, but it can be transmitted to humans. ... Show more

Humans are susceptible to many different diseases and unfortunately, these transmissible spongiform
encephalopathies have death written all over them.
Transmissible Spongiform Encephalopathies 2
Should people really fear eating beef because of the possibility of contracting bovine spongiform
encephalopathy? Probably not since one can only contract this disease through the consumption of
contaminated meat. If a non contaminated part of an infected cow is consumed, the person would not
contract this disease. If one is unfortunate enough to consume a piece of contaminated meat, it is
basically his/her death sentence because his/her brain will slowly deteriorate through abnormal prions
that pass the immune system as a normal prion.
The meats that consumers eat are slabs of a cow s muscle tissue and the infectious meat is only found
in the nerve tissue. Of course there is the possibility of having some of the contaminated meat passed
on to the meat that consumers eat when the cows are cut, but the chances are very slim. Since this
disease is contracted through eating contaminated meat, the site of infection should be in the digestive
tract, yet this disease eats away at the brain and nervous system.
The abnormal prions from the contaminated meat invade the nervous system to reach the brain, where
they eat away and create holes that make the brain look like a sponge. The person slowly loses his/her

Ballet Influence On American Culture
As a cultural continuity from the sixteenth century through the twenty first century, ballet has
influenced politics, economies, and cultures globally. Society is an organized group of persons
associated together for religious, benevolent, cultural, scientific, political, patriotic, or other purposes;
Ballet pertaining to society organizes people together for various purposes. Beginning in the sixteenth

Emerson A Transcendentalist
In twenty first century America, everyone wants to be an individual. But is that same individuality
only just a mask? Ralph Waldo Emerson was an American essayist, lecturer, and poet who led the
transcendentalist movement of the mid nineteenth century. In his speech titled The American Scholar,
Emerson proposed a plan for Americans to transform into thinkers and doers in the new country. He
preached that one must take into account the importance of nature, past, and action when presented
with intellectual situations. He believed that it was vital for the contemporaneous society to come
together and better itself, and the only way to accomplish this was for each individual to take their
distinctive part, and as Emerson would put it, perform their duty as scholars. Due to the conformity
within society, the ever growing sense of self entitlement, and the general apathetic nature that
pollutes the nation, Emerson s plan is not applicable in twenty first century America. ... Show more

Rodney Castleden s The Stonehenge
Stonehenge is one of the most famous sites in the world from the Neolithic period. It began as early as
3000 BC, and went under different stages of arrangement. Known for its circle of giant stones
standing in Salisbury Plain, this monument has baffled archeologists for centuries. Stonehenge, which
derives from the Saxon term for hanging stones, has been examined several times over the centuries,
but the primary reason for its creation remains unknown. The only information we do know is that it
was a religious site, and that worship here involved the cycles of the sun; the alignment of the stones
on the axis of the mid summer sunrise makes this clear. The books I choose to review this topic each
approach the ideology behind this monument; each in a different way. In the first half of The
Stonehenge People, Rodney Castleden investigates, in detail, many of the popular sites that could
contribute to figuring out the reconstruction of Neolithic society. Moreover, he begins with the impact
man had on the land, from the development of trade routes to the beginning of settlements and
agriculture. In the second half of the book, he attempts to look deeper ... Show more content on

The Relationship Between Playing Musical Instruments And...
Over the years various researchers have raised concern about the relationship between playing musical
instruments and performance in math. Performing well in math is a significant requirement in passing
an examination. For this reason, extensive research has been conducted on some of how students can
improve their performance in math. According to Cindy Zhan, playing music instruments engages the
right hemisphere of the brain. On the other hand, tackling math problems involves the left hemisphere
of the brain. Playing musical instruments thus creates a correlation between the two brain hemispheres
and increases the brain thinking capacity. My prediction is that playing musical instruments greatly
increases a student s performance in math. The main purpose of this investigation is to determine
whether there is a relationship between playing musical instruments and increased performance in
math. Data that will be collected include the math grades (American Grading System) of students
playing musical instruments as well as for those who do not. The math scores will be used to
determine how high students scored an overall grade in math and how good they are in playing
musical instruments. The data which will be used will take the average score for 100 or more students
both who play the instruments and those who do not. I will investigate the relationship between math
scores and play various musical instruments. I will collect data on the math scores of students playing

Freud s Psychoanalytic Theories as Applied to Mario Garcia s Rationalizing Malibu
Abstract
In Mario Garcia s Rationalizing Malibu , readers traverse a terrain that is often unseen one that
involves both the beautiful and ugly sides of Malibu. In this paper, the thoughts of the narrator are
dissected using Sigmund Freud s psychoanalytic concepts of id, ego, and superego superseding
ambiguity with clarity. The reader is not immediately aware of the fact that Blaine does not actually
exist, but rather, discovers it at the end of the story. One element that is reoccurring and ever present in
the narrator s life is the loss of women. He loses his mother, grandmother, and a woman he was dating.
The narrator uses repression, projection, rationalization, and denial to dull the pain of his past and
reinvent himself. By using Freud s Psychoanalytic theory and concepts of projection, rationalization,
denial, and repression the reader is made to see the ugly truth behind a seemingly perfect picture.
I. Introduction Mario Garcia s Rationalizing Malibu illustrates the life of a troubled man who spirals
out of control after experiencing a series of hardships. His problems begin with his bleak childhood
that is riddled with physical violence at the hands of his abusive father. The reader is made to believe
that these problems are happening to Blaine, an alter ego the narrator has subconsciously created,

NHS Core Values
This assignment will discuss the core values that underpin social and health service delivery and will
compare the current health service provision with health care services at the inception of the NHS.
The NHS has seven core values that aim to ensure that quality care is delivered to everyone regardless
of their gender, religion, race, age, wealth or sexual orientation. These values have been developed by
the general public, patients and staff, with local authorities having to develop and adapt these to
provide personalised care. These values not only underpin the social and health delivery service, but
also influence the legislation regarding care. For example the Care Act 2014 looks at integrating care,
involving the patient and carer ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This has not changed in the current NHS, albeit more values have been added to improve service
delivery. The NHS remains free with the exception of some charges, such as prescriptions, optical and
dental services. It covers everything from antenatal screening and routine treatments for long term
conditions, to transplants, emergency treatment and end of life care.
The National Health Service (NHS) was planned as a three tier structure. With the Minister of Health
at the top and below were the three tiers designed to interact with each other to suit the needs of the
patient. These tiers were voluntary and municipal hospitals supervised by Regional hospital boards,
family doctors, dentists, opticians and pharmacists who were self employed professionals contracted
to the NHS to provide services so that patients did not pay directly and local health authorities like
community clinics that provided services such as immunisations, maternity care and school medical
services controlled by a local authority Medical Health. The NHS in England is undergoing some big
changes, most of which took effect on April 1 2013. This included the abolition of primary care trusts
(PCTs) and strategic health authorities (SHAs), and the introduction of clinical commissioning groups
(CCGs) and Health watch England.
From the 1950s onwards the scale and quality of the treatment provided by the National Health
Service (NHS) improved, and between 1948

A Comparison Of Ancient Greek And Roman Civilization
Throughout History many civilizations have rose and fallen but we will be analyzing Greek and
Roman Civilization. Many people view the Romans as a copy cat empire compared to the Greek
because they modeled so many things after the Greeks, for myself, it would be correct to assume this
were true. At first during the colonial age or era, Romans and Greek heavily influenced one another
which one had engaged in trade at the Black Sea the surrounding Mediterranean areas. Trading
between the two nations was very successful due to the safety of Roman Military presence. Over time,
the Romans had adapted many of the Greeks practices and believes. This is one of the main reasons
that Roman could be seen as a copy cat of Ancient Greece. Ancient Greece and Rome both had used
agriculture. However, Rome did not have much problems with production of food through agriculture
like the Greeks did. Both of them had produced products like wheat, but the former, Greece, had failed
to produce a good amount of wheat because Romans had far superior farming techniques. Instead of
having a good production of wheat, the Greeks had substituted wheat for olive oil hence why many
people think of olive oil coming from Greece. Both nations had heavily relied on slaves as well. How
could a nation become so successful with running the government, thinking about important ideals, or
enjoying themselves if they had to worry about how they were going to get fed? Roman slaves were a

The Case For Working With Your Hands By Mathew B. Crawford
Why is it that in today s society people only think that a person can be successful if they have a degree
from a higher education? In the article The Case for Working With Your Hands author Mathew B.
Crawford talks about his life as a mechanic and the decisions and revelations that got him there.
Crawford claims that a good job can be defined to meet an individual s passions and to see the effects
of the world (Crawford). Crawford is saying that a person does not have to have a degree to have a
good job. With Crawford s claim, in the article titled The Case for Working With Your Hands, that a
person should find a job that satisfies their own passions and desires I would agree with the author s
stance based on my own personal experiences as well as his information he presents. To start off, the
article The Case for Working With Your Hands is about Matthew B. Crawford and his decision to start
a car repair shop after getting his Ph. D in political philosophy. Crawford starts off the article by
discussing a television show called Deadliest Catch, and how in today s society many people can
never see the effects they are having in their career. He goes on by creating a stance that in today s
society many people assume that a student must attend a college or university to achieve a overall
success instead of following their own inclinations (Crawford, Matthew). Crawford talks about how
he chose to open up a motorcycle shop to work as a mechanic instead of getting a

which is debated very highly. The consequences of public education fund s spending are long term
which makes this issue very important. Also, limited availability of public funds makes it essential for

These parents regard playing a musical instrument as a highly difficult and demanding task. This
implies that those students who aim to get good grades with music are likely to receive very poor
grades in other conventional subjects. therefore, should not have compulsory status in public schools
which are funded by taxpayers resources. Further, it is argued that the standard curriculum teaches
abstract reasoning, mathematics, sciences and medicine which has great value, even if the skills
acquired are not, thereafter, directly usable in everyday life. The study of arts and music gives no
practical application. The objective of public education funds must be of helping students to develop
valuable skills for their practical lives. It is believed that the study of mathematics, language, science,
etc. provides both useable knowledge and abstract skills.
The paper discussed why public funds should not support arts and music education and evaluated the
assertion that education for arts and music is a less useful allocation of educational resources than
traditional subjects. It is concluded that the cost for provision of arts and music education in public
school system is very high. Further, it is discussed that eliminating music education from the
curriculum of public schools would enable

Economic recession in the UK
When the UK economy is doing well, its pound sterling is strong. However, having a strong pound

Pediatric Sarcomas Form A Heterogeneous Group Of...
Pediatric sarcomas form a heterogeneous group of mesenchymal skeletal and extraskeletal
malignancies [1]. Over the last few decades a multimodal treatment approach has improved
dramatically the prognosis for children with localized Ewing sarcomas (EWS) and rhabdomyosarcoma
(RMS) (65 70% event free survival rate) [2, 3]. Though EWS and RMS are considered radiosensitive,
the proportion of patients whose primary tumors are treated with external beam radiotherapy (EBRT)
alone has steadily declined over the past 30 years [4]. Increased awareness of the late effects of
radiotherapy (particularly second malignancies and growth disturbances) and advances in imaging and
orthopedic surgery has increased the use of surgical management for these tumors [5]. Due to the fact
that complete resection is often difficult or morbid to perform, adjuvant EBRT still plays an important
role in local control (LC) promotion [2, 3]. The challenge of achieving LC with a suitable therapeutic
ratio is especially demanding in the pediatric population and results in a very narrow therapeutic
window in which to balance benefits and late effects. The known detrimental effects of irradiating
large volumes with EBRT, impulsed limited radiation therapy alternatives such us intraoperative
radiation therapy (IORT) as an adapted technical opportunity to be explored in innovative practice [6].
Several collaborative groups are trying to determine the optimal radiation therapy dose and volume

the astrologer replies that he knew, as he knew many other things, but he knew nothing except the
client s past, because he was his youth friend turned enemy. The height of the ironic humor is in the
narration of the situation, where the astrologer was trapped before the stranger, who was committed to
find the whereabouts about his enemy and take revenge on him. When the stranger questions about his
present destination, there was conflict in the astrologer s mind but instantly the astrologer uses his

Understand The Difference Between Engine And A 6 Cylinder...
Choosing Between A 4 Cylinder And A 6 Cylinder Engine
When purchasing a vehicle, new or used the type of engine is just as important as any other feature.
Understanding the difference between the different engine types and sizes will help you to make an
informed decision when choosing a vehicle.
What Is The Difference?
A 4 cylinder engine contains 4 pistons while a 6 cylinder contains 6, driving the power of your engine.
So the easy answer would be more cylinders equals more power. Most small cars, light trucks, and
even some small SUV s contain 4 cylinder engines. 4 cylinder engines are typically inline engines (the
4 cylinders are in a straight line as opposed to a v shape like most 6 cylinder engines), making them
smaller and lighter weight.

The Ruger Air Magnum Combo Air Rifle
RUGER AIR MAGNUM COMBO AIR RIFLE REVIEW
The Ruger Air Magnum Combo is a break barrel, spring piston air rifle which gives hard hitting
power. It can attain an impressive velocity of 1400 fps, above average for its class. Some nice features
of the rifle are the adjustable two stage trigger and the automatic safety.
Included in the package is the 4x32 scope and mount. You can also use the fully adjustable fiber optic
rear sight and fiber optic front sight to focus on your target. This air rifle has good durability and can
be used on any weather condition, thanks to its Ambi Monte Carlo stock. A shooter can use the Ruger
Air Magnum, whether right handed or left handed.

People who bought the rifle said that it is powerful and good to use for hunting small game. The
adjustable trigger and automatic safety are some of the features that they liked. The air rifle has very
good knockdown capability especially if you use heavy pellets.
There are some negative comments about the product. Since the Ruger Air Magnum is a spring piston
air rifle, it does recoil. This can affect the accuracy when shooting. It also causes some discomfort;
fortunately, it has a rubber recoil pad to minimize that. A number of people expressed their
dissatisfaction with the telescopic sight that comes with the rifle. The 4x32 scope did not function very
well and sighting in can be difficult.
Another issue is the loud sound produced when shooting. This is due to the high velocity (up to 1400
fps). This can be a concern if you live in a highly populated neighbourhood. In some instances, it may
also be hard to cock the rifle and you need to put some effort into it.
Overall, the Ruger Air Magnum Combo air rifle is a good product that delivers a lot of power and

My Love For Music Started
The Delicate Music
My love for music began before I was even born. In the womb, I listened to music. My mom was like
any typical first baby mom, that lets their baby listen to classical and instrumental music. I listened
that beautiful, delicate music, before I set foot on this earth. I loved all the sound of instruments deep
and high play together, to make a masterpiece. This is when my love for music started to bloom.
When I reached about 5th grade, we had to choose what type of ensemble we wanted to be apart of.
The choices were choir and band. Of course, I chose band, the problem was I didn t know what I
wanted to play. Before we were put into the class, we had the opportunity to choose what ... Show

I prayed that this instrument was the one. I took a nice long, deep breath and blew almost all the air in
my lungs, into the wooded recorder. A loud squeak, exploded from the instrument. I jump, not
expected to play such a disgusting sound. I giggled, and so did the teacher. He suggested that I blow
less air, to get a better sound. I position my lips back on to the mouthpiece, and blew a less amountq of
air, so I wouldn t get that volger sound again. Then I heard it. My first note! The sound trickled from
the instrument into the room, filling it with my beautiful sound. Suddenly, that sound formed it that
horrific squeak I heard the first time. I giggled harder, and so did the teacher. This is one. , he stated to
my mother how was standing next to the chair I was sitting on. I had forgot she was there for a second.
This was my first step into the music I had always listen to. Now, I could be the one making it.
As time went, I grew as a musician. When 7th grade came around the corner, my conductor stated the
a competition was going on called, The Solo Ensemble Festival. In the competition, you could play
with another person, which would be an ensemble, or a solo. I heard about it in 6th grade, but you
couldn t sign up to be in it, until you were in 7th grade. This gave me the opportunity to show off my
talent. I ask a couple of my friend if they wanted to play with me in the solo

Why Parents Should Adopt Children Of Different Origins Are...
1. Those who want to adopt children of different origins are more open minded and in a sense already
have an idea of how they will raise their child. My perspective on the subject is that not all parents
really know what parenting will be like at first, or, if they adopt a child after having a biological child
then they need to be open to how to raise different ethnicities of them. Considering the shocking
amount of children that haven t been adopted in the world, it is quite depressing that they don t have a
home. In the future these transracial adoptions will enable people to have children to care for, but the
issues are laid out. For example, if a white parent adopts a black child, there will be questions among
those who are not very aware of transracial children. In the future though, it will become more
common. So many people have made changes in America that most people look for the soul of the
person. The physical characteristics don t always matter. However, those who want to sustain each
race are more concerned that they will ruin the uniqueness of the world. In marriages this can be an
issue, but should it really be a concern? Honestly, I don t know what the Lord wants in the world, but
he most indeed gave different characteristics to create diversity. Some people don t like diversity. But
it was made for a reason and no one can tell a person who they should and shouldn t marry or in a
child s case, adopt. I think that the demographics of people in

Why Is John Stevens Unjustified
On January 17, 1893, the Hawaiian Kingdom was overthrown by the United States of America. A
storm had broken out, and a group of American men took control of the Hawaiian Kingdom. This
group of men, called the Hawaiian League would ultimately take over, and overthrew the Hawaiian
Kingdom. When the McKinley Tariff was signed, this allowed all imported sugar into the U.S. tariff
free. This worried many foreign sugar businessmen that sugar would not thrive in Hawaii anymore.
Many businessmen thought annexation would be a solution to help boost sugar again. The overthrow
of the Hawaiian Kingdom was unjustified, because of the unlawful acts by Minster Stevens, and the
Hawaiian League. A man named John Stevens assisted the overthrow of the Hawaiian Kingdom
illegally, by bringing American troops, and machinery to the Iolani Palace. The day, January 16, 1893,
is the day that Stevens brought 162 armed sailors, and marines. This is going against the law, because
the international law says that using armed troops on an independent nation is illegal. In addition,
Stevens is a minister. He has no power to summon American troops, and bring in the USS Boston

Plane Crash Lab Report
During investigating this plane crash, the materials found at the site were: carbon, hydrogen, nitrogen,
and oxygen. In order to identify the victims and what happened, I used empirical and molecular
formulas. Empirical formula is a formula with the lowest whole number ratio of elements present in a
compound. Molecular formula indicates the actual number of atoms of each element presented in a
compound. First, I calculated the empirical formula by using the percentages of the compound
analysis for each passenger. I calculated this by turning an element s percentage into a number out of
one hundred and then multiplying it by the molar mass to get the number of mols in each element.
After, I divided all elements by the lowest number in order ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The chemical analysis of 75.42% carbon, 6.63% hydrogen, 8.38% nitrogen, and 9.57% oxygen leads
to an empirical formula of C21H22N2O2 [see binder paper for work]. C21H22N2O2 has a mass of
334.45 g, which matches with the molar mass of the molecular formula. Base on this similarity and
the description, I can conclude that this substance is Strychnine. Strychnine is a rat poison that is
highly toxic to humans. When looking for the passenger carrying poison, I looked for a person who
shows resentment towards someone else on the plane. Both Miley Cyrus and Selena Gomez carried
this substance with them and also happen to be enemies. Friends and family from the interview stated

The Correlation Between Amounts Of Time Spent Playing...
What is the relationship between the amounts of time spent playing video games and your amount of
sleep?
Introduction
Nearly every day, you can read articles about urbanized countries throughout the world, with issues or
concerns arising from individuals playing video games for excessive amounts of time. Individuals
form addictions to a surge in excessive or violent behaviors, commonly found among teens or younger
children. Studies also indicate playing excessive amounts of video games can also have an effect on
your sleeping patterns in a negative way. For instance, playing an extreme amount of video games
prior to going to bed may create a more difficult time in falling asleep. So, I decided to take on a
similar yet different type of study to discover out how much video gaming an average high schooler
plays each night and how this may affect how many hours of sleep he/she receives. I was unable to
find any online articles for this type of study, so I decided to find out for myself using the high school
population at a local school. As the study began, I did believe that students who participated in
excessive video gaming may receive less sleep.
Statement of Task
The focus of this study was to investigate if the amount of time students spend playing video games
each evening may have an influence on the quantity of sleep the average high school student receives.
To determine this, I requested teachers to allow me to survey students during school hours in an

The Greatest Successful Child Stars Essay

history. A product of Disney, Cyrus would not also be one of the most popular current celebrities if she

insight into the continuous battle of sustaining a career as a celebrity. Child stars must decide whether
to maintain their current image and exit the industry or to debrand from this childish appearance and

Selecting The Appropriate Research Methods
3. Methodology When selecting the appropriate research methods, it was important for me to carefully
consider the approaches that would best fit my research in order to reach meaningful conclusions. I
decided to choose approaches that I see fit around my research topic and would ensure I achieve the
results to come out of my research. As (Walker, 1985, p.46) advocates that Just as recipes are not
simply things that are done to food, but become concepts within which method and substance are
compounded. Methods in research can become an intrinsic part of the project. The methods we choose
are, in this sense, there to be tested, just as much as the substantive hypothesis . This claims that the
methods that are chosen to embark on an area of research are a vital part of the project and need to be
taken into account just as much as the question that the methods are used to answer it. Therefore, the
two approaches I chose to shape my research were a case study and appreciative inquiry to allow me
to collect the data I had selected which was the following; questionnaires, interviews and
observations.
3.1 Case Study
I have chosen to approach my research by using a case study approach which builds up a rich picture
of a case using different kinds of data collection and gathering the views, perceptions and ideas of
diverse individuals relating to the case. (Yin, 2009, p.15) states The case study method is most likely
to be appropriate for how and why questions . This supports

Often technology is taken too far but is technology for animals taking it too far? Thinking about it
there is technology for animals which has been around for quite some time just not anything too crazy.
Technology that has been around since 2003 is a tracker that is most commonly used on birds working
as GPS tracking. Like technology for humans it can have positive and negative effects It can be
helping the animals for example a 3D printing of a bird s beak or hurting them by drones scaring or
getting too close to wild life. A lot of the current technology is being designed is for service dogs to
help their owners, for example, the FIDO project. Their main goal being able to use technology to
create an accessible way for the dog to help their owner. Technology for animals can be helpful for
people who need it but technology may change our relationships with our animals. The FIDO project
is more of a recent project that focuses on giving people with disabilities the chance for their service
dog to potentially save their life. Owners who require a service animal have special bond because they

The relationship between art and science become fundamental in the renaissance era. This relationship

Patrice Lumumba Essay
More than Words
Since the late 1800 s, almost all of Africa had been under European colonial rule, but this changed
drastically in 1960. Sixteen African nations gained their independence that year, including the former
Belgian Congo, which became the Democratic Republic of the Congo on June 30. One of the key
personalities that made this possible was Patrice Lumumba, who experienced widespread support in
gaining independence and became the first Prime Minister of the DROC. However, he lost much of
this support once he was in office, and lasted fewer than 200 days. Lumumba s ability to communicate

In Congo, My Country, Lumumba explains that one of the main reasons Europeans should not have

this to the instinctive mistrust of the Congolese for the white man (Lumumba 8). Baldwin writes about

in this chapter, suggest two ways she might more effectively seek Ken s forgiveness.
Firstly, Jan could have completely owned her actions and asked if there was any way to make it up to
him. Secondly, Jan should stay on topic. By her bringing up Ken telling her dad on her, and comparing
it to this situation, she effectively negated Ken s feelings and engaged in cross complaining. Cross
complaining is described as When a person s complaint is met by aa countercomplaint (Wood, 2012,
p. 233), as opposed to showing recognition of the other person s original concern.

Medea Persuasive Essay
In the play Medea by Euripides, the main character, Medea, goes on a murderous rampage. On said
rampage, she kills both of her sons, the king of Corinth, and her husband s fiancée, the princess of
Corinth. But how is one person capable of killing all those people in approximately an hour? Lots of
anger, obviously, but Medea had to go through a mental process to achieve this so called feat .
Naturally, something triggered her, in this case, Jason, her husband, cheating on her. Later, just before
she started killing people, Medea went into denial; arguing with herself for a while. Yet, when all was
said and done, Medea went into a mania and was basically on an adrenaline high. Through this
process, four people were killed in Medea s rampage. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For Medea, her trigger for her murderous rampage was her beloved husband, Jason, cheating on her
with the princess of Corinth. Unfortunately, this is normal in their society, so Medea s reaction seemed
way overblown. This suppressed her feelings in a way, due to the lack of understanding, making her
deal with these intense feelings through murder. However, you must think about what Medea is going
through. She was sent away from her hometown because she killed family there. Then here comes
along Jason, ready to save her from this seemingly eternal hell. Naturally, Medea sees him as her
savior, so in return she thinks very highly of him. But when he cheats, it seems like Medea is
overreacting; as if her world is falling apart. When in reality, it is. Her husband has seemingly left her,
she s an exile, and she has nowhere to go. How would you act in such a situation? You are going to
want to seek revenge at those who caused you this pain; not necessarily in the form of a murderous
rampage, but you would certainly do something. As with everything, Medea s action had a trigger.
Whether this action were a good response or not is up for debate, but know that the murder wasn t

Many International firms competed to enter the vast China market for franchising and expanding their products and services in a market which offers a wide scope of business opportunities mainly the size of its population and the openness of China on the Western world after so many years of its protectionist policies. In this respect, Levendary Café, a huge American leading Company operating in fast food like other American companies such as McDonalds and Kentucky Fried Chicken is trying its chance to enter the China market but there are some discrepancy of views between the top management of the Company at home n America and the appointed manager to run the Levendary Café operations in China, Louis Chen and the new CEO Mia Foster. The new CEO faces many issues to deal with, the design and look of the Levendary outlets which Chen has changed and even used some plastic chairs in some outlets to the discontent and disapproval of the top management of the parent Company in America When leading companies are established as franchised investing companies in foreign countries as is the case of Levendary Café , they care to see that their objectives, strategies and approaches to business are implemented as per the requirements of the parent Company at home where it started before going International. Therefore the appointed agent or representatives of the Company shall abide by the requirements and objectives of the Company and shall refer to the parent Company in America. ... Whatever you face in your daily experience, all of them would become the source, the inspiration, the soul of the artwork. In this essay,I would like to focus on the paintings form of art. How do the paintings reflect the attitude of the artists? How do the paintings reflect the philosophy and value of the world? No matter you are eastern or western people, paintings are just not about the skills, but they also convey the feelings of the artists. Abstract expressionism is the pioneer of western abstract painting style. It was to use exaggerating brushwork to express emotions, so it is similar to Xieyi. However, the level of thinking may be quite different. Most of the artists would like to express their personal feelings like happiness, sadness rather than national feelings by using objects.(Seitz,1983) By contrast, Color field painting was the development of Abstract expressionism and the purpose was similar in addition to the fact that background was tremendously crucial. (Wilkin,2007) The only difference is that the subject matter in color field painting is the color, the object is not necssarily important.(Artstory foundation) Willem De Kooning represented the Abstract expressionism while Kenneth Noland represented the color field painting.Willem De Kooning was the prominent Abstract expressionism painters and urgely objected to the restrictions imposed by naming movements. He said I m not interested in abstracting or taking things out or reducing painting to design, form, line, and color. I paint this way because I can keep putting more things in it drama, anger, pain, love, a figure, a horse, my ideas about space. Through your eyes it again becomes an emotion or idea. (Artstory foundation). It means he like the freedom of painting to tell people his emotions. Some of the famous paintings were the women features. In the other way, Kenneth Noland was an significant painter who insisted on producing his paintings in soak stain technique. He focused on the choice of color, to determine how the background integrated with the subject to become a full subject.(Webb,2011)I will use each one of the paintings for the two style to illustrate its difference and the value ... In A P, John Updike utilizes different characters to emphasize on the themes of power, mystery as allurement, and choices and consequences. This narrative was written by Updike in 1960s. The story is narrated by one of the character Sammy. He is the protagonist as well as the narrator of the story. Updike, the writer utilizes his narrative to symbolize different themes i.e. generation crevice, choices or decisions and their results. Generation crevice is the distinction of mentalities between individuals of diverse eras or prompting an absence of comprehension. Updike wrote this story to demonstrate the generation gap and individual choices. Individual choice is referring to freedom of choice for instance: what an individual wants to wear, to say, to do and way of living etc. In 1960, there was specific dress code for women and men. The Effects of Transmissible Spongiform Encephalopathies on Humans Abstract Humans have to deal with many different diseases and the ones most disliked are the ones with no cures. Like cancer, transmissible spongiform encephalopathies have no cure, but they are more rare. These diseases are prion diseases which cause the brain to deteriorate. Prions are proteins that sometimes behave like viruses, which mean that they should have some form of nucleic acid, but since they don t, they cause abnormalities. The nervous system contains many normal prions, but when an abnormal prion comes along, it transforms all the normal prions into abnormal ones. Bovine spongiform encephalopathy is found in cattle, but it can be transmitted to humans. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Humans are susceptible to many different diseases and unfortunately, these transmissible spongiform encephalopathies have death written all over them. Transmissible Spongiform Encephalopathies 2 Should people really fear eating beef because of the possibility of contracting bovine spongiform encephalopathy? Probably not since one can only contract this disease through the consumption of contaminated meat. If a non contaminated part of an infected cow is consumed, the person would not contract this disease. If one is unfortunate enough to consume a piece of contaminated meat, it is basically his/her death sentence because his/her brain will slowly deteriorate through abnormal prions that pass the immune system as a normal prion. The meats that consumers eat are slabs of a cow s muscle tissue and the infectious meat is only found in the nerve tissue. Of course there is the possibility of having some of the contaminated meat passed on to the meat that consumers eat when the cows are cut, but the chances are very slim. Since this disease is contracted through eating contaminated meat, the site of infection should be in the digestive tract, yet this disease eats away at the brain and nervous system. The abnormal prions from the contaminated meat invade the nervous system to reach the brain, where they eat away and create holes that make the brain look like a sponge. The person slowly loses his/her ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Ralph Waldo Emerson was an American essayist, lecturer, and poet who led the transcendentalist movement of the mid nineteenth century. In his speech titled The American Scholar, Emerson proposed a plan for Americans to transform into thinkers and doers in the new country. He preached that one must take into account the importance of nature, past, and action when presented with intellectual situations. He believed that it was vital for the contemporaneous society to come together and better itself, and the only way to accomplish this was for each individual to take their distinctive part, and as Emerson would put it, perform their duty as scholars. It began as early as 3000 BC, and went under different stages of arrangement. Known for its circle of giant stones standing in Salisbury Plain, this monument has baffled archeologists for centuries. Stonehenge, which derives from the Saxon term for hanging stones, has been examined several times over the centuries, but the primary reason for its creation remains unknown. The only information we do know is that it was a religious site, and that worship here involved the cycles of the sun; the alignment of the stones on the axis of the mid summer sunrise makes this clear. The books I choose to review this topic each approach the ideology behind this monument; each in a different way. In the first half of The Stonehenge People, Rodney Castleden investigates, in detail, many of the popular sites that could contribute to figuring out the reconstruction of Neolithic society. Over the years various researchers have raised concern about the relationship between playing musical instruments and performance in math. Performing well in math is a significant requirement in passing an examination. For this reason, extensive research has been conducted on some of how students can improve their performance in math. According to Cindy Zhan, playing music instruments engages the right hemisphere of the brain. On the other hand, tackling math problems involves the left hemisphere of the brain. Playing musical instruments thus creates a correlation between the two brain hemispheres and increases the brain thinking capacity. My prediction is that playing musical instruments greatly increases a student s performance in math. The main purpose of this investigation is to determine whether there is a relationship between playing musical instruments and increased performance in math. Data that will be collected include the math grades (American Grading System) of students playing musical instruments as well as for those who do not. The math scores will be used to determine how high students scored an overall grade in math and how good they are in playing musical instruments. The data which will be used will take the average score for 100 or more students both who play the instruments and those who do not. Analysis Of Mario Garcia s Rationalizing Malibu Mira Latif Professor Mario Garcia English M01B 22 April 2016 Freud s Psychoanalytic Theories as Applied to Mario Garcia s Rationalizing Malibu Abstract In Mario Garcia s Rationalizing Malibu , readers traverse a terrain that is often unseen one that involves both the beautiful and ugly sides of Malibu. In this paper, the thoughts of the narrator are dissected using Sigmund Freud s psychoanalytic concepts of id, ego, and superego superseding ambiguity with clarity. The reader is not immediately aware of the fact that Blaine does not actually exist, but rather, discovers it at the end of the story. One element that is reoccurring and ever present in the narrator s life is the loss of women. He loses his mother, grandmother, and a woman he was dating. The narrator uses repression, projection, rationalization, and denial to dull the pain of his past and reinvent himself. By using Freud s Psychoanalytic theory and concepts of projection, rationalization, denial, and repression the reader is made to see the ugly truth behind a seemingly perfect picture. I. Introduction Mario Garcia s Rationalizing Malibu illustrates the life of a troubled man who spirals out of control after experiencing a series of hardships. His problems begin with his bleak childhood that is riddled with physical violence at the hands of his abusive father. NHS Core Values This assignment will discuss the core values that underpin social and health service delivery and will compare the current health service provision with health care services at the inception of the NHS. The NHS has seven core values that aim to ensure that quality care is delivered to everyone regardless of their gender, religion, race, age, wealth or sexual orientation. These values have been developed by the general public, patients and staff, with local authorities having to develop and adapt these to provide personalised care. These values not only underpin the social and health delivery service, but also influence the legislation regarding care. For example the Care Act 2014 looks at integrating care, involving the patient and carer ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This has not changed in the current NHS, albeit more values have been added to improve service delivery. The NHS remains free with the exception of some charges, such as prescriptions, optical and dental services. It covers everything from antenatal screening and routine treatments for long term conditions, to transplants, emergency treatment and end of life care. The National Health Service (NHS) was planned as a three tier structure. With the Minister of Health at the top and below were the three tiers designed to interact with each other to suit the needs of the patient. These tiers were voluntary and municipal hospitals supervised by Regional hospital boards, family doctors, dentists, opticians and pharmacists who were self employed professionals contracted to the NHS to provide services so that patients did not pay directly and local health authorities like community clinics that provided services such as immunisations, maternity care and school medical services controlled by a local authority Medical Health. The NHS in England is undergoing some big changes, most of which took effect on April 1 2013. This included the abolition of primary care trusts (PCTs) and strategic health authorities (SHAs), and the introduction of clinical commissioning groups (CCGs) and Health watch England. • 13. A Comparison Of Ancient Greek And Roman Civilization Throughout History many civilizations have rose and fallen but we will be analyzing Greek and Roman Civilization. Many people view the Romans as a copy cat empire compared to the Greek because they modeled so many things after the Greeks, for myself, it would be correct to assume this were true. At first during the colonial age or era, Romans and Greek heavily influenced one another which one had engaged in trade at the Black Sea the surrounding Mediterranean areas. Trading between the two nations was very successful due to the safety of Roman Military presence. Over time, the Romans had adapted many of the Greeks practices and believes. This is one of the main reasons that Roman could be seen as a copy cat of Ancient Greece. Ancient Greece and Rome both had used agriculture. However, Rome did not have much problems with production of food through agriculture like the Greeks did. Both of them had produced products like wheat, but the former, Greece, had failed to produce a good amount of wheat because Romans had far superior farming techniques. Instead of having a good production of wheat, the Greeks had substituted wheat for olive oil hence why many people think of olive oil coming from Greece. Both nations had heavily relied on slaves as well. How could a nation become so successful with running the government, thinking about important ideals, or enjoying themselves if they had to worry about how they were going to get fed? In the article The Case for Working With Your Hands author Mathew B. Crawford talks about his life as a mechanic and the decisions and revelations that got him there. Crawford claims that a good job can be defined to meet an individual s passions and to see the effects of the world (Crawford). Crawford is saying that a person does not have to have a degree to have a good job. With Crawford s claim, in the article titled The Case for Working With Your Hands, that a person should find a job that satisfies their own passions and desires I would agree with the author s stance based on my own personal experiences as well as his information he presents. To start off, the article The Case for Working With Your Hands is about Matthew B. Crawford and his decision to start a car repair shop after getting his Ph. D in political philosophy. Crawford starts off the article by discussing a television show called Deadliest Catch, and how in today s society many people can never see the effects they are having in their career. He goes on by creating a stance that in today s society many people assume that a student must attend a college or university to achieve a overall success instead of following their own inclinations (Crawford, Matthew). Over the last few decades a multimodal treatment approach has improved dramatically the prognosis for children with localized Ewing sarcomas (EWS) and rhabdomyosarcoma (RMS) (65 70% event free survival rate) [2, 3]. Though EWS and RMS are considered radiosensitive, the proportion of patients whose primary tumors are treated with external beam radiotherapy (EBRT) alone has steadily declined over the past 30 years [4]. Increased awareness of the late effects of radiotherapy (particularly second malignancies and growth disturbances) and advances in imaging and orthopedic surgery has increased the use of surgical management for these tumors [5]. Due to the fact that complete resection is often difficult or morbid to perform, adjuvant EBRT still plays an important role in local control (LC) promotion [2, 3]. The challenge of achieving LC with a suitable therapeutic ratio is especially demanding in the pediatric population and results in a very narrow therapeutic window in which to balance benefits and late effects. The known detrimental effects of irradiating large volumes with EBRT, impulsed limited radiation therapy alternatives such us intraoperative radiation therapy (IORT) as an adapted technical opportunity to be explored in innovative practice [6]. Those who want to adopt children of different origins are more open minded and in a sense already have an idea of how they will raise their child. My perspective on the subject is that not all parents really know what parenting will be like at first, or, if they adopt a child after having a biological child then they need to be open to how to raise different ethnicities of them. Considering the shocking amount of children that haven t been adopted in the world, it is quite depressing that they don t have a home. In the future these transracial adoptions will enable people to have children to care for, but the issues are laid out. For example, if a white parent adopts a black child, there will be questions among those who are not very aware of transracial children. In the future though, it will become more common. So many people have made changes in America that most people look for the soul of the person. The physical characteristics don t always matter. A storm had broken out, and a group of American men took control of the Hawaiian Kingdom. This group of men, called the Hawaiian League would ultimately take over, and overthrew the Hawaiian Kingdom. When the McKinley Tariff was signed, this allowed all imported sugar into the U.S. tariff free. This worried many foreign sugar businessmen that sugar would not thrive in Hawaii anymore. Many businessmen thought annexation would be a solution to help boost sugar again. Individuals form addictions to a surge in excessive or violent behaviors, commonly found among teens or younger children. Studies also indicate playing excessive amounts of video games can also have an effect on your sleeping patterns in a negative way. I was unable to find any online articles for this type of study, so I decided to find out for myself using the high school population at a local school. The rationale for ECT is to provide relief from the signs and symptoms of mental illnesses such as severe depression, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As the lady had a pre existing heart condition an echocardiogram was performed. An echocardiogram is a non invasive ultrasound test that shows an image of the inside of the heart (Klein et al 2011). Routine pre anaesthetic assessment and a physical examination were carried out prior to ECT to ensure the treatment was still viable. Informed consent was also obtained. The ECT was being administered in theatre in the general hospital. In advance of the treatment the clients vital signs were checked and it was confirmed that consent was given. The client was then transferred to theatre. Present in the room was the anaesthesiology team, ECT nurse, surgical nurse, psychiatric consultant, registrar, psychiatric nurse and student nurse. Initially the client was hooked up to a machine to record her vital signs, anaesthetic and muscle relaxants were administered and the client was ventilated with 100% oxygen. Under anaesthetic the client has reduced capacity to breathe hence oxygen is administered, pure oxygen also reduces the deleterious effects on memory. Anaesthesia and muscle relaxants reduce the seizure threshold and the risk of injuries from motor activity during the seizure (Fink 2009). The client remained in the supine position, conductive jelly was applied bilaterally to the temples and the psychiatrist administered the electrical stimulus. • 35. Japanese Internment Camps In Canada The Internment of Japanese and Italian Canadians Canada is presently known for welcoming many racial groups into the country. However, the Canadian government is not always giving out warm welcomes to different ethnicities. During World War Two, the country rejects many Japanese and Italians who are already Canadian. The treatment of the Japanese and Italians in the Second World War is very unjust. The two groups face being put into internment camps against their own will, the government separates families and force men to work on farms with little pay. The government of Canada also mistreat the Japanese and Italian Canadians because they are full of fear and superstition. The Japanese and Italian Canadians are forced to live in internment ... Most Italians work in the trades sector but are forced to work in farms. In 1942, V.G. McGulgan, president of the Kent County Federation of Agriculture suggested that, Italian war prisoners and Canadian Japanese be employed in farm labor camps as means of filling the acute labor shortage. This shows that the Japanese and Italians were sent to internment camps to work in farms to fill in labor shortages. Sending them to work in camps to satisfy employment deficiency is unjust considering that the Japanese and Italian Canadian have to work all day with a small amount of pay. Subsequently, to get to the camps, families were packed into small trains where they had to ride on for hours to get to their destination. Men and women were separated once they reached their camps. Most men stayed at Camp Petawawa and Camp Ripples, whereas, women stayed at the Kingston Penitentiary. The men and women were separated from their loved ones as a punishment and for the different types of labor each gender may have had. • 36. The Greatest Successful Child Stars Essay Even though HM [Hannah Montana] is chopped up into little tiny pieces and buried in my backyard she will always hold a very special place in my heart! Miley Cyrus captioned on Instagram for the tenth anniversary of the TV show that made her one of the most successful child stars in recent history. A product of Disney, Cyrus would not also be one of the most popular current celebrities if she had not drastically altered her star text to stay relevant. Her brand management provides exceptional insight into the continuous battle of sustaining a career as a celebrity. Child stars must decide whether to maintain their current image and exit the industry or to debrand from this childish appearance and rebrand for a more mature audience. The latter usually includes bolder, controversial, and more mature behavior. Rebranding, therefore, is risky because its decoding may result in public outcry and lost fans potentially killing the celebrity altogether. A celebrity is more than just an individual. As O Shaughnessy and Stadler describe in Media and Society, they are the sum of everything affiliated with them from carefully planned promotions to uncontrolled publicity. Therefore, the celebrity cannot exist without the audience. The audience creates the celebrity from their intertextual and extratextual knowledge; in other words, from the celebrity s performances as well as external sources. Whether these two personalities connect or disconnect determines whether they are seen as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 37. Selecting The Appropriate Research Methods 3. Methodology When selecting the appropriate research methods, it was important for me to carefully consider the approaches that would best fit my research in order to reach meaningful conclusions. I decided to choose approaches that I see fit around my research topic and would ensure I achieve the results to come out of my research. As (Walker, 1985, p.46) advocates that Just as recipes are not simply things that are done to food, but become concepts within which method and substance are compounded. Methods in research can become an intrinsic part of the project. The methods we choose are, in this sense, there to be tested, just as much as the substantive hypothesis . This claims that the methods that are chosen to embark on an area of research are a vital part of the project and need to be taken into account just as much as the question that the methods are used to answer it. Therefore, the two approaches I chose to shape my research were a case study and appreciative inquiry to allow me to collect the data I had selected which was the following; questionnaires, interviews and observations. 3.1 Case Study I have chosen to approach my research by using a case study approach which builds up a rich picture of a case using different kinds of data collection and gathering the views, perceptions and ideas of diverse individuals relating to the case. (Yin, 2009, p.15) states The case study method is most likely to be appropriate for how and why questions . This supports ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. Negative Essay On Technology For Animals Technology for Animals Often technology is taken too far but is technology for animals taking it too far? Thinking about it there is technology for animals which has been around for quite some time just not anything too crazy. Technology that has been around since 2003 is a tracker that is most commonly used on birds working as GPS tracking. Like technology for humans it can have positive and negative effects It can be helping the animals for example a 3D printing of a bird s beak or hurting them by drones scaring or getting too close to wild life. A lot of the current technology is being designed is for service dogs to help their owners, for example, the FIDO project. Their main goal being able to use technology to create an accessible way for the dog to help their owner. Technology for animals can be helpful for people who need it but technology may change our relationships with our animals. The FIDO project is more of a recent project that focuses on giving people with disabilities the chance for their service dog to potentially save their life. Owners who require a service animal have special bond because they do have to depend a lot on their animal. Newer points out the most of technology made for animals is not designed with the animals experience in mind. This wearable technology for dogs consists of natural dog behaviors such as biting, tugging, and nose touches all in a vest the dog wears (Jackson 1). Essay On Baroque And Renaissance Unit 4 Written Assignment Revival and Rebirth in Europe: The Renaissance, Baroque and Rococo Introduction The three stylistic periods, following the original classical era, the Renaissance, Baroque and Rococo saw many changes in art. The realist approach continued to flourish in much later eras until the 1700s, even though art didn t benefit from such scientific developments. Previous knowledge was essential right up until the 1700s (Encyclopedia of Art History, n.d.). Conclusion The relationship between art and science become fundamental in the renaissance era. This relationship became mutually beneficial, not only did science help create techniques such as linear perspective or knowledge of the human anatomy, but science benefited with knowledge. This is due to artists being heavily involved in such research to perfect art, hence the term scientific realism. Art has been a motivation, driven by the desire to make art increasingly more realistic. There are three key developments in science which have aided this realism. • 40. Patrice Lumumba Essay More than Words Since the late 1800 s, almost all of Africa had been under European colonial rule, but this changed drastically in 1960. Sixteen African nations gained their independence that year, including the former Belgian Congo, which became the Democratic Republic of the Congo on June 30. One of the key personalities that made this possible was Patrice Lumumba, who experienced widespread support in gaining independence and became the first Prime Minister of the DROC. However, he lost much of this support once he was in office, and lasted fewer than 200 days. Lumumba s ability to communicate was a key reason for his success and failure. In July of 1956, Lumumba was sentenced to two years imprisonment for embezzling $2,520 from the post office for the Association des Evolués. After the Association returned the money, Lumumba s sentence was reduced to 12 months, which began his career as a prisoner, leaving and re entering the prison system for the next five years. During his 1956 1957 imprisonment, Lumumba wrote Congo, My Congo, 200 pages to make a contribution towards the search for a solution for the present and future problems of the Congo (Lumumba 7). Because this book was not published until after Lumumba s death, it did not have an impact on the independence movement, but the views Lumumba wrote about certainly did. In Congo, My Country, Lumumba explains that one of the main reasons Europeans should not have control of the Congolese is that the Europeans do not understand the African way. Lumumba attributes this to the instinctive mistrust of the Congolese for the white man (Lumumba 8). Baldwin writes about similar problems in the United States, on an entirely different continent under different circumstances. In Notes of a Native Son, Baldwin writes about his father s mistrust for white people, which he at first ignores, but later understands after a first hand encounter in New Jersey. • 41. Masculinity In The Film Ripley s Aliens While Ripley manages to use the technology, machinery and weaponry to defeat the aliens, she tries to be as inventive and resourceful as possible to distinguish herself from the militarised approach of the marines. And so when the marines start to be wiped out one by one by the aliens, Ripley decides to take on a leadership role because no one would listen to her at first and doesn t want to feel responsible for any more deaths. At this point in the film, she destroys any fantasy version or perception of what men want in women. We fully now know how Ripley is a person. She is pushy, aggressive, rude, injured, suffering from PTSD, doesn t wear makeup, tired, smart, motherly, angry, empathetic, and determined to save others, even at great cost to herself which makes her character all the more heroic and masculine as a majority of these attributes hold connotations with masculinity. ... During the Reagan era in American society of the 1980s, there were more opportunities for middle class college graduates and women for work as there was a rise in rise of hi tech firms, finance and retail. Yet Ripley with all these male attributes can relate more to men in the Reagan era. James Cameron rewrites Ripley as an action hero, as Aliens (1986) is a military expedition/combat film. At the same time, the political climate of the Reagan era informed the film s conservative revision of Ripley into a socially authorized female role: the mother Ellen Ripley . (Gallardo C. • 42. Reflection Paper On Language And Emotions 1. Using the chapters on language and emotions to help frame your answer, suggest two ways that Ken could open this conversation more productively, beyond clearly expressing his emotions and using I language. Two ways in which Ken could have opened this conversation productively would include 1) owning his current feelings and 2) taking responsibility for his own actions (Wood, 2012). Instead of his current opening, Ken could have said something like, Jan, I really need to speak with you. I completely understand that what happened between Katie and me was wrong, but by you telling Shannon, it has not only created issues between Shannon and me, but also has me feeling a bit uneasy about confiding in you. 2. How do you perceive Jan s effort to convince Ken to forgive her? Based on what you have learned in this chapter, suggest two ways she might more effectively seek Ken s forgiveness. Firstly, Jan could have completely owned her actions and asked if there was any way to make it up to him. Secondly, Jan should stay on topic. By her bringing up Ken telling her dad on her, and comparing it to this situation, she effectively negated Ken s feelings and engaged in cross complaining. Cross complaining is described as When a person s complaint is met by aa countercomplaint (Wood, 2012, p. 233), as opposed to showing recognition of the other person s original concern. 3. • 43. Medea Persuasive Essay In the play Medea by Euripides, the main character, Medea, goes on a murderous rampage. On said rampage, she kills both of her sons, the king of Corinth, and her husband s fiancée, the princess of Corinth. But how is one person capable of killing all those people in approximately an hour? Lots of anger, obviously, but Medea had to go through a mental process to achieve this so called feat . Naturally, something triggered her, in this case, Jason, her husband, cheating on her. Later, just before she started killing people, Medea went into denial; arguing with herself for a while. Yet, when all was said and done, Medea went into a mania and was basically on an adrenaline high. Through this process, four people were killed in Medea s rampage. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For Medea, her trigger for her murderous rampage was her beloved husband, Jason, cheating on her with the princess of Corinth. Unfortunately, this is normal in their society, so Medea s reaction seemed way overblown. This suppressed her feelings in a way, due to the lack of understanding, making her deal with these intense feelings through murder. However, you must think about what Medea is going through. She was sent away from her hometown because she killed family there. Then here comes along Jason, ready to save her from this seemingly eternal hell. Naturally, Medea sees him as her savior, so in return she thinks very highly of him. But when he cheats, it seems like Medea is overreacting; as if her world is falling apart. When in reality, it is. Her husband has seemingly left her, she s an exile, and she has nowhere to go. How would you act in such a situation? You are going to want to seek revenge at those who caused you this pain; not necessarily in the form of a murderous rampage, but you would certainly do something. As with everything, Medea s action had a trigger. Whether this action were a good response or not is up for debate, but know that the murder wasn t committed out of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
