The Essential Gandhi By Mahatma Gandhi
Mahatma Gandhi once said, Nonviolence is not a garment to be put on and off at will. Its seat is in the
heart, and it must be an inseparable part of our being . The book The Essential Gandhi expresses
Gandhi s views on issues like untouchability, religion, nationality, his movements like civil
disobedience are deeply shown in this book. Readers can learn about Gandhi s childhood, his early
married life, his realization and transition in South Africa, and his ways of approach towards attaining
Independence in India. The book did a fantastic job in showing the Gandhi s principles like non
violence with exemplary contexts. The researcher understood the specific theme chosen and was a bit
au fait with the topic, because she had a keen interest in Gandhi and all his work. In an age where
violence is on the increase Gandhi s message of non violence is needed. It is the researchers hope that
this IA will reach a wide cross section of people and will effect a change. Gandhi s views on issues
like untouchability are deeply dealt with. Never anywhere Gandhi s views about untouchability were
effectively heard. But, in this book they were dealt in detail with lots of arguments and convincing
proofs of why untouchability is sin. Even his co living with the untouchables and the resistance he
faced for that is discussed. His views on religion, nationality, his movements like civil disobedience,
are also clearly shown. Even his opinions on many religions were discussed in deep; a striking

Quantitative Thinking In The Workplace
Part 1
Significance of quantitative thinking in work place
For accountability measures, an individual is necessitated to acquire quantitative thinking. This a good
process that helps in decision making when dealing with critical issues in workplaces for it; helps one
to interpret the models that deal with mathematics like tables, formulas, schemes, graphs and they help
to draw inferences from the models, it helps a quant to realize that there is a limit with mathematical
methods as well statistical methods and it provides several ways to solve the problems like geometric,
statistical and algebra.
Quantitative thinking is of importance for it represents the information (mathematical information) in

It provides a wide look at things and gets a more and accurate understanding on the ongoing event. At
most time, misinterpretation of statistical data causes wrong results (Blanche, 2011). Some of data
(statistic data) may be biased in relation to opinion despite the misconception that statistics displays a
true measure regarding certain research. Not all the statistical numerals that the person analyzing data
can be able to notice, lack of further explanation can lead to misinterpretation of data thus wrong
decision making. Also bad sampling can too lead to misinterpretation of data for most samples assume
that the whole population possesses the same characteristics as the sample. At the other hand use of
definitional terms that are not in relation to the information being used can lead too to
misinterpretation of statistical data. This has been seen most in elections where there is miscounted
statistical data that results to false election.
Part 3
Emotions: they affect how a person thinks and judges a certain issues thus hindering problem solving.
Problems are normally dealt with logically thus one not need to engage his/her in stress. I overcame
this problem by adopting a rational mindset and letting the mind to govern the actions that I took

Isaac Asimov I Robot Quotes
The book I, Robot is a fictional story written by Isaac Asimov. It was first published on December
2nd, 1950, but it is still a famous classic read today. In the following two paragraphs, I want to relate
two quotes from the novel to a personal connection as well as a text to text connection respectfully.
Let s start with the text to text connection. In the beginning of the novel where my first quotation is
found, we are introduced to Gloria, an innocent child, and Robbie the robot, who was Gloria s best
buddy and caregiver. During the beginning of the novel, Gloria was furious that her mother correlated
Robbie to a machine, as Gloria thought the contrary to her mother. She believed that he was a person
just like you and me and he was [her] friend (Asimov 28), and while robots are not human and are not
made of flesh and blood, Gloria believed that the robots are capable of feeling and interacting with
humans just as if humans were interacting ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Black + White = Black by Lawrence Hill, Hill explains the segregation between Blacks and Whites
and how Whites didn t treat Blacks as people because of their colour. This is similar to how Gloria s
mother does not treat robots as humans, but rather as a nasty old machine (Asimov 28), and this shows
how Gloria s mother and Whites show no respect to the other species due to their own personal
judgments and beliefs, which are falsely created by themselves. Both represent isolation of a certain
species due to the mistrust, tension, and stereotypes they have between one another, and both show
that even though there is no valid reason as to why they should not trust one another, there is still
conflict between the Blacks and Whites nowadays in all parts of the world just like there is conflict
between Gloria s mother and the

Lake Mountain Research Paper
On Sunday morning, Mum and Dad decided to bring us to toboggan at Lake Mountain. We woke up at
7:45am in the morning, got changed and started our journey to Lake Mountain. As we were driving
along Plenty Rd, we stopped at the Bundoora Hungry Jacks for breakfast. Although, the bacon egg
muffin was crispy, it didn t have the same taste as the normal muffin. Despite this, we continued our
trip to Lake Mountain. Our adventure to Lake Mountain consisted of many winding roads and narrow
roads. After two hours of driving, we reached Fernshaw and the fog was thickening but soon after, we
reached Marysville. In Marysville, we hired toboggans and snow boots from the local store. After that,
we made our way up the mountain and saw huge piles of snow along the side of the road. On the top
of the mountain, we paid a car entry of $57 and parked the car in the car park.
We changed into our ski attire and headed towards the Village , where the main toboggan slope was.
We had a few goes down the mountain and experienced many different difficulties along the way.
After 20 minutes worth of fun, we headed down to the Koala Creek. The Koala Creek was a
tobogganing slope made out of dry ice and had a few rocky and slippery areas. It also had some
bumps and dips towards the end of the slope. We had ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Australian History Essay
JJ Selwyn IV DJM AUH ESSAY WORLD WAR II How significant a contribution did Australian
troops make to the course and outcome of World War II? During World War II, of the 7 million people
who lived in Australia, 550 000 served overseas in the armed forces. While this was a high proportion
of the population and they all fought bravely in battle, it still can not be said that their efforts made a
significant contribution to the course and outcome of the war. In campaigns such as Tobruk and El
Alamein in North Africa and, primarily, Papua New Guinea, the Australian troops gave a good
account of themselves and made significant contributions to the battles in each of these areas.
However, in comparison to battles in the European theatre of ... Show more content on

While this battle was not pivotal in the course of the war, it is still extremely clear that the Australian
troops contributed greatly. The next battle, in which there was significant Australian contribution, was
in El Alamein, in the Mediterranean theatre of war. This was a battle which after the loss of Tobruk,
halted and turned around the German forces which were advancing towards Egypt. After the battle
Churchill said Before El Alamein, we never had a victory, after El Alamein, we never had a defeat .
This campaign managed to destroy the Germans hopes of capturing Egypt. The 1st battle of El
Alamein, which included the Australian 9th division, took place between the 10th and 27th of July
1942. While Allie losses in this battle were greater than German losses, it stopped and exhausted the
Germans and forced them to regroup before they tried to advance again. The 2nd and more decisive
battle of El Alamein took place on the 23rd of October. By this time the Allied forces had brought
together an vast reserve of men, approximately 220 000 troops, of which 32 000 were Australian.
Having intercepted German plans, the Allied forces, commanded by Sir Bernard Law Montgomery,
were able to anticipate the German movements and eventually defeat them, with the battle ending on
the 5th November. While the Australian troops only made up 6% of Montgomery s forces, the suffered
20% of the casualties, with 620

The Humanity Of Frankenstein In Mary Shelley s Frankenstein
For as long as man has encompassed this world, the divisive enigma of humanity has prevailed.
Seeping its way into each generation, while sparking heated conversations, it has become evident that
there is much we do not know about what truly makes us human. Regardless of our genetic
composition, philosophers often ponder the deeper meaning of humanity. We know that, biologically,
recreating the genetic makeup of a human does not yield humanity, so what is the missing aspect?
Humans have the ability to contemplate their own existence in this world. Awareness of existence.
This driving force enables us to analyze situations while placing ourselves within them. Our
involuntary ability to understand the impact of our actions and the affect they have on others causes us
to be inherently human. Our actions evoke strong emotions within us that allow us to learn through
our experiences. We retain the resonated feelings of certain occurrences and apply them to others in
order to deduce outcomes. Often this facet of mankind is taken for granted, yet we are reminded,
through both literature and hypothetical scenarios, of its importance. Frankenstein, by Mary Shelley,
constitutes as one of these profound reminders. Shelley develops a theoretical story in which the
humanity of Frankenstein s monster is questioned. Despite having the accurate organs and framework
of a human, Shelley causes the reader to seek the missing aspect that is preventing the monster from
being human. Likewise,

How Did Camp X Become Successful
Camp X was a North American training school used to train both men and women into becoming
successful spies who would later be dropped into enemy territory at the end of their training course.
Camp X was successful in training these men and women because it taught them everything they
needed to know about how to become successful spies and it taught them how to deal with real life
scenarios such as unarmed killing and sabotage.
Camp X was created on December 6, 1941, during World War II, when Adolf Hitler s forces were
dominating Western Europe, the allies knew that general warfare would not be enough to defeat the
Nazi s. Camp X also known as its official name Special Training School 103 was the first North
American training school. They then created Camp X to train spies and drop the spies into enemy
territory so they can gather all sorts of information from the enemies. The location of Camp X was
chosen with a great deal of thought, it was located on the shores of Lake Ontario, only 30 miles away
from America. This location was ideal for bouncing radio signals between countries like Europe,

brother, Quinn, Blake received an invitation to a carnival from a strange, gorgeous girl, Cassandra.
Blake thought that the idea of going to the carnival is stupid, until he realized his brother stole the

trying to survive on the ride for a while, Blake realized that his mother?s boyfriend, Carl, was actually
the captain of the ship, which did not seem to be true. Blake finally found Quinn clinging from a rope
up atop the boat and they linked arms and jumped off the edge of the boat, into the deep blue sea. Four

would find at a local carnival. As Blake stepped into the mirror maze, his slim, teenaged figure slowly

As Blake took a close look at it, he realized? it was Maggie! Maggie told Blake about how Russ and
Maggie crashed their bumper car, so they split up. Maggie and Blake quickly dodged through the
different mirrors together, so they could get out of that ride as soon as possible. As Blake and Maggie
were just about done with the whole maze, Blake accidentally let go of Maggie?s hand? and Maggie

The Role Of Law In The Common Law
Introduction
The essentials originally required to form a valid contract consist of an offer, a subsequent acceptance
and consideration. However, since the nineteenth century, another requirement concerning the
existence of an intention to create legal relations was added . It is important to note that the common
law does not include this as a requirement and therefore it has caused controversy in the legal sphere
with many inauspicious comments being raised regarding its necessity.
This essay explains intention to create legal relations as a requirement and how it is applied by
examining how it has been applied with reference to relevant case law. In this context this essay will

Domestic and social agreements
Sometimes the nature of an agreement clearly determines that there was no intention to be legally
bound. In the case of domestic agreements, there is a general presumption that the parties do not
intend to be legally bound, though this can be rebutted.
There are two distinguishing cases under this category that show both sides of this principle.
The case of Balfour v Balfour (1919) presents a scenario in which the general presumption is upheld.
In this case a husband promised to pay his wife a monthly maintenance allowance of £30 while he was
away. Later, the couple decided to separate and the husband refused to pay the allowance. It is
important here to accentuate the fact that the husband and wife were in good relations at the time the
husband made the promise. The Court of Appeal determined that there was no intention to create legal
relations and consequently there was no valid contract as Atkin LJ stated that it was a family matter .
The case of Merritt v Merritt (1969) ensures that this presumption is not set in stone and can in fact be
rebutted. In this case a husband promised his wife that he would transfer their house to her sole
ownership after she paid the mortgage off. After the wife paid off the mortgage, the husband refused
to transfer the house to her. This case differs from the previous one as the couple in this case was
separated at the time they had made this

It is evident that she would be attached to the unborn baby the same way that she is attached to Kate.
Therefore, the trauma of abortion to some extent affects her mind as she begins experiencing
nightmares of dying children (Linn 70). Maria allowed herself to be controlled by Carl into
performing the abortion which indicates the theme of loss of control in Didion s novel, Play It as It

At this state most people do not understand her including her husband apart from BZ who was also not
happy with his life as a celebrity. This implies that both of them were sharing a similar pain thus the
remarkable relationship. However, BZ decides enough is enough and commits suicide which leaves
Maria devastated and with mental instability. She was confined in a Neuropsychiatric Institute after
being associated with BZ s suicidal death. She did not commit suicide herself since she had to hold on
and stay alive for the sake of her sick child, Kate.
Didion in the novel, Play It as It Lays, also depicts Maria as an undecided woman since she decides to
seek acting job rather than drinking too much at parties and sleeping late. When a chance is offered to
her, she seems undecided as she turns the offer down and then accepts it. This is vivid when Freddy

Japanese Gardens And The Garden
Japanese Gardens are a garden style that originated in Japan with design elements that are in line with
the Buddhist belief. Buddhist teaching is symbolized in the different elements that make up the garden
as a whole. Buddhism belief is used in the inspiration of various elements through the use of water,
stone, and architectural pieces. The Japanese Garden that used to break down the broad scope of all
the different elements is a Japanese Garden. I chose to use this Japanese Garden as my primary garden
since I have visited multiple times at the Dubuque Arboretum and Botanical Garden here in town. In

which the whole garden consists. It symbolizes the continuous flow of time and life change elements

of water in a Japanese garden: the use of a pond, water basin, and waterfall. A pond in these gardens is
usually irregularly shaped to reflect how a natural pool would look the mountains (Harte). The pond

Essay On Estrogen
Jenna Gunselman

Biochemistry Extra Credit Paper
Estrogen and Its Effects Estrogens are steroids that are important in the reproductive cycles of humans
and some animals, and they are the main female sex hormones. They easily diffuse across cell
membranes, and once they are inside, they bind to estrogen receptors to control many genes and their
expressions. In human women, there are three types of estrogen: estradiol, which is the dominant form
of estrogen in women who are not pregnant, estrone, which is produced during menopause, and
estriol, which is found in pregnant women.
Estradiol is the most potent of the three types of estrogen found in women, almost ten times stronger
than estrone and almost eighty times stronger ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Both groups were then exposed for another 24 hours to etoposide, a drug used in chemotherapy that
promotes apoptosis. The results of this test showed that caspase 3 activity decreased in cells treated
with estrogen, but increased in cells not treated with estrogen. This supports the hypothesis that
estradiol does have an effect on apoptosis in bone cells, and that without it, cell death will increase and
bone density will diminish.
In addition to its effects on bone health, estrogen also has a huge effect on the cardiovascular system.
Studies have shown that it increases the levels of HDL, or good cholesterol, decreases the levels of
LDL, or bad cholesterol, and relaxes and dilates blood vessels so that blood flow will increase. There
is also evidence that estrogens contribute to the maintenance of the health of the endothelium, or the
lining of the blood vessels, thus further protecting the cardiovascular system from plaque and heart
disease. With menopause, estradiol levels drop, and so these effects on the heart and blood vessels are
lowered, giving postmenopausal women a higher risk of heart disease than premenopausal women.
A study done by Kim and Levin in 2006 at the University of California states that 17 beta estradiol
typically has a protective property on the cardiovascular system, and that it decreases the amount of
cell death in cardiomyocytes, or heart muscle cells. To test this theory, female rats

Hamlet s Frustration Essay
Hamlet s Frustration
In order to understand Hamlet, we must understand his frustration. This frustration is most clear in his
famous monologue, famously beginning with the line Oh what a rogue and peasant slave am I.
This self condemnation is contrasted by his admiration for the actor of the previous scene, who in a
fiction is able to force his soul to his own conceit. The word soul is an example of metonymy, as the
soul represents the actor s visage, tears, distraction, and voice. Thus Hamlet equates soul with one s
actions, so by his own comparison his soul is weak, as he does not take action against the king. The
second sentence is furthermore a rhetorical question, beginning with, Is it notŠ So clearly ... Show

Instead of being pregnant Hamlet instead admits he can say nothing. Ironically, the same word was
used earlier to describe the actor s cause ( for nothing,/for Hecuba ). Hamlet thus feels completely
impotent in his situation, like a slave. He rhetorically asks himself, Am I a coward?
From cowardice, humiliation results, as Hamlet in his mind s eye is being taunted by Claudius, who is
calling him a villain. The word villain is especially ironic, since clearly Claudius is the villain, the
murderer, and also since a villain is often meant to mean the antagonist of a play. Thus in a sense it is
Hamlet who is the antagonist of the play, working against his noble instincts. Then Hamlet describes
what Claudius does to him, metaphorically breaking his pate across, and plucking out his beard, to
blow it in his face.
These images of humiliation make one imagine a slave master belittling his slave or an abusive parent
scolding his child. Then he decides he deserves this humiliation, saying swounds, I should take it since
he is pigeon livered and lack[s] gall. This is in violent contrast to what Hamlet would do or should
have done: fatted all the region kites with the slave s offal, which is what Hamlet feels Claudius
deserves. The word slave is ironic since this is what Hamlet feels he himself is, indicating that the

The Human Body System Is Not Immune For Pathological...
Our body system is not immune to pathological deficiencies. There exist numerous identified
pathologies which compromise the regular functioning of a heart, but all heart related pathologies are
narrowed to a single condition known as Acute Coronary Syndrome (ACS). This is the term formally
used in reference to the different identified clinical entities threatening the cardiovascular system. ACS
is the result of the progressive or complete sudden blocking of the arteries or veins; this prevents an
appropriate blood flow through the circulatory system, and as a consequence, the body is unable to
receive enough oxygen and nutrients to meet its daily necessities.
This makes ACS a life threatening form of coronary heart disease (CHD) that ... Show more content

In a hospital setting, anticoagulants and antiplatelets are widely prescribed by physicians because of
their greater benefits in changing the physiological homeostasis of the cardiovascular system.
Anticoagulants and antiplatelets play a fundamental role in the treatment of cardiovascular diseases as
they are very effective at counteracting the different symptoms cardiovascular diseases present.
Today, suggested treatments depend on patients health and type of ACS condition. Such treatments
range from invasive surgery for high risk patients to prescribed medications for low risk patients. The
medications vary in function and purpose. For example, thrombosis is the fast forming of an abnormal
blood clot in an artery or vein. Therefore, it must be treated with a fast acting anticoagulant which
could be Heparin or Fondaparinux (Hyers, 2005). Atrial fibrillation is an abnormal heartbeat and is
frequently treated with another type of anticoagulant, Warfarin. Finally, unstable angina is a chest
discomfort caused by the lack of blood flow through the heart and in most cases is treated with the
most common antiplatelet medication, Aspirin.
Anticoagulants are given to prevent blood from clotting or prevent an existing clot from more
growing. In contrast, antiplatelets are only given to prevent blood from clotting. Beside the advantages
each treatment gives patients, none treatment

The Central Ideas Of Treatment Approach
The Transpersonal theory has evolved over the past two decades, driving the desire to learn more
about the higher self. A person doesn t have to be sick in order to get better (Tuner, 2011, p.551,) The
history and development will be discussed within the essay. Central ideas of treatment approach will
be included. Strengths and weaknesses of the Transpersonal Theory within social work will be
addressed in great detail. There will be an assessment of a case and the client within the micro system.
The major goals and expected outcomes within the micro system will be listed. To help understand
how practitioner work with clients the intervention techniques will be addressed. To give a holistic
view of the Transpersonal Theory the ethical issues implicit in the approach will be stated. Finally, the
application of professional self, and the use of the model with the micro system.
History and Development The Transpersonal Theory help broaden the way of thinking for many
practitioners therefore creating the need to greater explore the higher self. It was in the late 19th
century the thrust of social work interventions shifted toward a psychosocial approach with an
emphasis on internal as well as environmental factors (Tuner, 2011, p.547). It was 1967, when a small
group gathered to create new psychology that would honor the whole spectrum of the human
experience, including various non ordinary states of consciousness. The group included, Abraham

Examples Of Moral Philosophy
Moral Philosophy is the rational study of the meaning and justification of moral claims. A moral claim
evaluates the rightness or wrongness of an action or a person s character . For example, stealing is
wrong claims that the act of stealing is wrong, and people should not be dishonest claims a character
trait (i.e. dishonesty) is wrong (Gert and Gert). Descriptively, morality refers to certain codes of
conduct put forward by a society or a group (such as a religion) or accepted by an individual for
his/her own behavior. Normatively, it refers to a code of conduct that, given specified conditions,
would be put forward by all rational persons. ( What Is Moral Philosophy? ).

determining right and wrong is in accordance with one s self interest. Also, that it is immoral to act

really close with them. You just need to be someone they talk to occasionally or someone they follow
on a blog or vlog. When they respect you, they will get behind your campaigns, participate in your
movements, and share your ideas with others. This is a huge reason to nurture your relationships with
followers online and people in real life.
5. I Enjoy Feeling Connected To Other People
If you don t nurture your relationships and you end up losing them, things can get pretty lonely. But,
you don t have to lose relationships to feel lonely. Being in a relationship that isn t very strong can feel
lonely too. When you can t share and communicate with someone, or when you can t enjoy yourself or
be yourself with someone, it feels just as lonely as not having someone in your life.
This is why you need to nurture your relationships. It will help you feel more connected to the people
in your life and less lonely. That will boost your self confidence, satisfaction, and happiness.

The Massacre And Abu Ghraib Torture Prison
The My Lai massacre and the Abu Ghraib torture prison were both tragic events in history that
Americans were involved in. The My Lai massacre took place during the Vietnam war in 1968.
Lieutenant William Calley ordered the Charlie Company to proceed with the attack on the village of
My Lai. Their goal was to exterminate the Viet Cong combatants and any one who stood in their way,
but they ended up killing hundreds of innocent unarmed civilians instead. The Abu Ghraib torture and
prison was an american military run prison that was active during the Iraqi war in 2003 until 2006.
They captured Iraqi soldiers and tortured them in extremely inhumane and unimaginable ways. These
horrific occurrences made an impact on a countless amount of communities and people s lives around

Hughes s The Negro Artist and the Racial Mountain (1926)
The article The Negro Artist and the Racial Mountain by Hughes (1926), the author shows a situation
that the African Americans felt underestimated for being black and attempted to embrace whites
culture. This was because white people looked down on them during that era. He shows this by
expressing his disappointment with a statement made by one of the most promising of the young
Negro poets who says that, I want to be a poet not a Negro poet, meaning behind that, I want to be
white. (Par 1) He wanted to be white so that his artwork would be better accepted. Not only this young
Negro wanted to be white for him to be uplifted in the society, but also some other black people
wanted to be white as well for them to be estimated and respected.
According to Hughes, this statement of denying being black was the mountain standing in the way of
any true Negro art in America this urge within the race towards whiteness, the desire to pour racial
individuality into the mold of American standardization, and to be a little Negro and as much
American as possible. (Hughes, Para. 1). This wants to tell us how many blacks artists, felt it was
necessary to be white in order for themselves and their work to be accepted and recognized.
Hughes also talks about the state of the African American families of that period. In his second
paragraph, he says that, Negro middle

Introduction
With science and technology making remarkable development in every field, most essentially, edu
cational system has taken a noteworthy step towards excellence with impressive progress of Infor
mation and Communication Technologies (ICT). Furthermore, when these technologies are availa ble,
affordable and accessible, they represent more than a transformation for people with disabili ties. The
persons with disabilities demand different educational methodology and material. This has led people,
especially the parents, to look out for solutions to educational needs of these special children. Of late,
the solution has come in the form of information and communication technology (ICT) tools, which
helps and enhances the learning expectations of these persons. Prior to ICT in terventions, the field of
education was the first to develop a range of special education programmes that have helped persons
with disabilities to get educated. In recent years, ICT is playing a vital role in the development of
educational curriculum and also in teaching learning process using the latest advancements in the area
of IT and hardware. It supports these students to improve their knowledge and learning skills as well
as enables them to most effectively compete with their peers in school and ultimately in the society.
Hence the ICT based assistive tools are widely used to sup port inclusive learning.

Argumentative Essay On Participation Trophies
When I was a little kid I got many participation trophies. Later when I became older I was not feeling
I was improving. Then I went to chess tournaments every time I lost I asked for help so I could

Labour Day In The Late 1800s
Labor Day occurs every first Monday in September. It is dedicated to the social and economic
achievements of American workers. Labor Day was created by the 19th century labor movement

the end of the summer. It is celebrated with parties, parades, and athletic events. Labor Day originated
during the height of the Industrial Revolution in the United States which was in the late 1800s (Labor

Even though there were regulations in some of the states, children who were as young as 5 or 6

The Effects Of Deviance, Micro Level And Macro Level
There are several theories, which aim to help explain the causes of deviant behavior, however, not all
sociologists agree on the causes. There are two levels to look at when explaining causes of deviance,
micro level and macro level, each level has a different focus. I think that all of the theories are helpful
in explaining the causes of deviance, but I find the differential association theory to be most insightful.
Edwin Sutherland developed the differential association theory in the 1930 s. The differential
association theory includes nine different propositions, which explain the causes of deviance.
Differential association is defined as, social interactions with deviant as opposed to conventional
others (601). This theory basically explains how deviant behavior can be learned from various
interactions. In the documentary, The Interrupters, three professional ex criminals from Chicago who
work at CeaseFire and became Violence Interrupters are followed. The mission at CeaseFire is to
prevent the spread of violence at the source. One ex criminal, Ameena Matthews whose father was a
notorious gang leader, Jeff Fort, works to prevent violence in Chicago. Ameena Mathews used to be a
drug ring enforcer, but was able to get off the streets. I believe that the main reason why Ameena got
caught up in acts of deviance was because of her social interactions with deviant individuals. As a
young child, Ameena was exposed to deviant acts and individuals, which caused her to

Pros And Cons Of Natural Gas Fracking
Fracking is a relatively new way of retrieving oil and natural gases from shale rock and other natural
resources that reside in the earth s core, using air and water together. Thus far it has been proven to be
a quicker alternative to oil well drilling compared to conventional drilling methods. Oil and gas
companies are still learning about the side effects of this elaborate process day by day. Despite a few
side effects that have been discovered within the process, fracking has been very efficient and
beneficial. As stated in, Pros and Cons of Fracking: 5 Key Issues , Fracking saves lives, and it saves

The nation is shifting towards electricity generated by natural gas over the past ten years 81 percent of
new electricity capacity has been gas fired and state governments are playing regulatory catch up with
the drilling technology s rapid expansion to meet this burgeoning demand .
(http://www.gracelinks.org/191/natural gas fracking introduction) However; to meet this demand, gas
and oil companies have ignored some rather important harmful effects of hydraulic fracturing. These
harmful effects include; water droughts, increased pollution, the spread of toxins, and possible
negative influence on local economies. Water droughts because of the fracking process are caused by
using up to approximately one hundred times more water than previous drilling methods. This means
that gradually less and less of the world where drilling is active or was active will have the ability to
attain non chemical induced water. The article, List of Pros and Cons of Fracking published by
Occupy Theory states that, Anywhere from 10 to 40 percent of fracking waste water flows back to the
original drilling surface (http://occupytheory.org/list of pros and cons of fracking/) Hydraulic
fracturing causes pollution in several different aspects. Oil and gas companies are not required to
provide a list of chemicals used in the process which causes those in the areas where drilling is present
to not be able to adapt correctly to these toxins. According to research, a few of the chemicals that
have been found present in fracking include; benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and xylene. These three
chemicals are known to the scientific community to cause harmful effects on the health of people.

  • 4. Isaac Asimov I Robot Quotes The book I, Robot is a fictional story written by Isaac Asimov. It was first published on December 2nd, 1950, but it is still a famous classic read today. In the following two paragraphs, I want to relate two quotes from the novel to a personal connection as well as a text to text connection respectfully. Let s start with the text to text connection. In the beginning of the novel where my first quotation is found, we are introduced to Gloria, an innocent child, and Robbie the robot, who was Gloria s best buddy and caregiver. During the beginning of the novel, Gloria was furious that her mother correlated Robbie to a machine, as Gloria thought the contrary to her mother. She believed that he was a person just like you and me and he was [her] friend (Asimov 28), and while robots are not human and are not made of flesh and blood, Gloria believed that the robots are capable of feeling and interacting with humans just as if humans were interacting ... In Black + White = Black by Lawrence Hill, Hill explains the segregation between Blacks and Whites and how Whites didn t treat Blacks as people because of their colour. This is similar to how Gloria s mother does not treat robots as humans, but rather as a nasty old machine (Asimov 28), and this shows how Gloria s mother and Whites show no respect to the other species due to their own personal judgments and beliefs, which are falsely created by themselves. Both represent isolation of a certain species due to the mistrust, tension, and stereotypes they have between one another, and both show that even though there is no valid reason as to why they should not trust one another, there is still conflict between the Blacks and Whites nowadays in all parts of the world just like there is conflict between Gloria s mother and the ... • 6. Lake Mountain Research Paper On Sunday morning, Mum and Dad decided to bring us to toboggan at Lake Mountain. We woke up at 7:45am in the morning, got changed and started our journey to Lake Mountain. As we were driving along Plenty Rd, we stopped at the Bundoora Hungry Jacks for breakfast. Although, the bacon egg muffin was crispy, it didn t have the same taste as the normal muffin. Despite this, we continued our trip to Lake Mountain. Our adventure to Lake Mountain consisted of many winding roads and narrow roads. After two hours of driving, we reached Fernshaw and the fog was thickening but soon after, we reached Marysville. During World War II, of the 7 million people who lived in Australia, 550 000 served overseas in the armed forces. While this was a high proportion of the population and they all fought bravely in battle, it still can not be said that their efforts made a significant contribution to the course and outcome of the war. The next battle, in which there was significant Australian contribution, was in El Alamein, in the Mediterranean theatre of war. After the battle Churchill said Before El Alamein, we never had a victory, after El Alamein, we never had a defeat . This campaign managed to destroy the Germans hopes of capturing Egypt. The 1st battle of El Alamein, which included the Australian 9th division, took place between the 10th and 27th of July 1942. While Allie losses in this battle were greater than German losses, it stopped and exhausted the Germans and forced them to regroup before they tried to advance again. • 10. The Humanity Of Frankenstein In Mary Shelley s Frankenstein For as long as man has encompassed this world, the divisive enigma of humanity has prevailed. Seeping its way into each generation, while sparking heated conversations, it has become evident that there is much we do not know about what truly makes us human. Regardless of our genetic composition, philosophers often ponder the deeper meaning of humanity. We know that, biologically, recreating the genetic makeup of a human does not yield humanity, so what is the missing aspect? Humans have the ability to contemplate their own existence in this world. Awareness of existence. This driving force enables us to analyze situations while placing ourselves within them. Our involuntary ability to understand the impact of our actions and the affect they have on others causes us to be inherently human. Our actions evoke strong emotions within us that allow us to learn through our experiences. We retain the resonated feelings of certain occurrences and apply them to others in order to deduce outcomes. Often this facet of mankind is taken for granted, yet we are reminded, through both literature and hypothetical scenarios, of its importance. Frankenstein, by Mary Shelley, constitutes as one of these profound reminders. Shelley develops a theoretical story in which the humanity of Frankenstein s monster is questioned. Despite having the accurate organs and framework of a human, Shelley causes the reader to seek the missing aspect that is preventing the monster from being human. Likewise, ... In the case of domestic agreements, there is a general presumption that the parties do not intend to be legally bound, though this can be rebutted. There are two distinguishing cases under this category that show both sides of this principle. The case of Balfour v Balfour (1919) presents a scenario in which the general presumption is upheld. In this case a husband promised to pay his wife a monthly maintenance allowance of £30 while he was away. Later, the couple decided to separate and the husband refused to pay the allowance. It is important here to accentuate the fact that the husband and wife were in good relations at the time the husband made the promise. The Court of Appeal determined that there was no intention to create legal relations and consequently there was no valid contract as Atkin LJ stated that it was a family matter . The case of Merritt v Merritt (1969) ensures that this presumption is not set in stone and can in fact be rebutted. In human women, there are three types of estrogen: estradiol, which is the dominant form of estrogen in women who are not pregnant, estrone, which is produced during menopause, and estriol, which is found in pregnant women. Both groups were then exposed for another 24 hours to etoposide, a drug used in chemotherapy that promotes apoptosis. The results of this test showed that caspase 3 activity decreased in cells treated with estrogen, but increased in cells not treated with estrogen. This supports the hypothesis that estradiol does have an effect on apoptosis in bone cells, and that without it, cell death will increase and bone density will diminish. In addition to its effects on bone health, estrogen also has a huge effect on the cardiovascular system. Studies have shown that it increases the levels of HDL, or good cholesterol, decreases the levels of LDL, or bad cholesterol, and relaxes and dilates blood vessels so that blood flow will increase. There is also evidence that estrogens contribute to the maintenance of the health of the endothelium, or the lining of the blood vessels, thus further protecting the cardiovascular system from plaque and heart disease. With menopause, estradiol levels drop, and so these effects on the heart and blood vessels are lowered, giving postmenopausal women a higher risk of heart disease than premenopausal women. A study done by Kim and Levin in 2006 at the University of California states that 17 beta estradiol typically has a protective property on the cardiovascular system, and that it decreases the amount of cell death in cardiomyocytes, or heart muscle cells. This frustration is most clear in his famous monologue, famously beginning with the line Oh what a rogue and peasant slave am I. This self condemnation is contrasted by his admiration for the actor of the previous scene, who in a fiction is able to force his soul to his own conceit. The word soul is an example of metonymy, as the soul represents the actor s visage, tears, distraction, and voice. Instead of being pregnant Hamlet instead admits he can say nothing. Ironically, the same word was used earlier to describe the actor s cause ( for nothing,/for Hecuba ). Hamlet thus feels completely impotent in his situation, like a slave. He rhetorically asks himself, Am I a coward? From cowardice, humiliation results, as Hamlet in his mind s eye is being taunted by Claudius, who is calling him a villain. The word villain is especially ironic, since clearly Claudius is the villain, the murderer, and also since a villain is often meant to mean the antagonist of a play. Thus in a sense it is Hamlet who is the antagonist of the play, working against his noble instincts. Then Hamlet describes what Claudius does to him, metaphorically breaking his pate across, and plucking out his beard, to blow it in his face. These images of humiliation make one imagine a slave master belittling his slave or an abusive parent scolding his child. Then he decides he deserves this humiliation, saying swounds, I should take it since he is pigeon livered and lack[s] gall. Crimes Against Humanity touches on the subject about native names, symbols, and images and how they are used incorrectly. In the phrase, Let s get just a little bit real here. The notation of fun embodied in rituals like the Tomahawk Chop must be understood for what it is, Churchill reveals that the notation of fun is nonsense because sports teams are actually offending the Native Americans in a way that discriminates them. A moral claim evaluates the rightness or wrongness of an action or a person s character . For example, stealing is wrong claims that the act of stealing is wrong, and people should not be dishonest claims a character trait (i.e. dishonesty) is wrong (Gert and Gert). Descriptively, morality refers to certain codes of conduct put forward by a society or a group (such as a religion) or accepted by an individual for his/her own behavior. Normatively, it refers to a code of conduct that, given specified conditions, would be put forward by all rational persons. ( What Is Moral Philosophy? ). First and foremost, is the theory of Moral Subjectivism, which implies that an individual s thoughts and feelings determine moral actions; as oppose to a set of moral principles. Following, is the theory Ethical Egoism, which states that determining right and wrong is in accordance with one s self interest. Also, that it is immoral to act contrary to one s own self interest. Thirdly, some individuals agree that culture determines what actions are morally right or wrong; and are advocates of Cultural Relativism. Their actions are not guided by a list of moral rules or universal norms. Next, Virtue Ethics claim that right and wrong are characterized in terms of acting in accordance with the traditional virtues; making a good person . ( The Nature Morality and Moral Theories ). • 34. The Negro Artist And The Racial Mountain Emmanuel Adamson HUM 312 Prof: Justin Gammage 09/09/2015 Hughes s The Negro Artist and the Racial Mountain (1926) The article The Negro Artist and the Racial Mountain by Hughes (1926), the author shows a situation that the African Americans felt underestimated for being black and attempted to embrace whites culture. This was because white people looked down on them during that era. He shows this by expressing his disappointment with a statement made by one of the most promising of the young Negro poets who says that, I want to be a poet not a Negro poet, meaning behind that, I want to be white. (Par 1) He wanted to be white so that his artwork would be better accepted. Not only this young Negro wanted to be white for him to be uplifted in the society, but also some other black people wanted to be white as well for them to be estimated and respected. According to Hughes, this statement of denying being black was the mountain standing in the way of any true Negro art in America this urge within the race towards whiteness, the desire to pour racial individuality into the mold of American standardization, and to be a little Negro and as much American as possible. (Hughes, Para. 1). This wants to tell us how many blacks artists, felt it was necessary to be white in order for themselves and their work to be accepted and recognized. Hughes also talks about the state of the African American families of that period. In his second paragraph, he says that, Negro middle ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The eight characteristics are as follows: (a) Clear, elevating goal, (b) Results driven structure, (c) Competent team members, (d) Unified commitment, (e) Collaborative climate, (f) Standards of excellence, (g) External support and recognition, and (h) Principled leadership. Subsequent research by Larson and LaFasto led them to develop a 42 item questionnaire that focused on leadership criterion called The Collaborative Team Leader Instrument (Northouse 2016). Labor Day was created by the 19th century labor movement (Labor Day, 2010). It became a federal holiday in 1894. To some Americans, Labor Day symbolizes the end of the summer. It is celebrated with parties, parades, and athletic events. Labor Day originated during the height of the Industrial Revolution in the United States which was in the late 1800s (Labor Day, 2010). Around this time, the average American worked 12 hours days and seven days a week. Even though there were regulations in some of the states, children who were as young as 5 or 6 worked in mills, factories and mines. They only earned a fraction of what the adults were earning. • 39. The Effects Of Deviance, Micro Level And Macro Level There are several theories, which aim to help explain the causes of deviant behavior, however, not all sociologists agree on the causes. There are two levels to look at when explaining causes of deviance, micro level and macro level, each level has a different focus. I think that all of the theories are helpful in explaining the causes of deviance, but I find the differential association theory to be most insightful. Edwin Sutherland developed the differential association theory in the 1930 s. The differential association theory includes nine different propositions, which explain the causes of deviance. Differential association is defined as, social interactions with deviant as opposed to conventional others (601). This theory basically explains how deviant behavior can be learned from various interactions. In the documentary, The Interrupters, three professional ex criminals from Chicago who work at CeaseFire and became Violence Interrupters are followed. The mission at CeaseFire is to prevent the spread of violence at the source. One ex criminal, Ameena Matthews whose father was a notorious gang leader, Jeff Fort, works to prevent violence in Chicago. Ameena Mathews used to be a drug ring enforcer, but was able to get off the streets. I believe that the main reason why Ameena got caught up in acts of deviance was because of her social interactions with deviant individuals. As a young child, Ameena was exposed to deviant acts and individuals, which caused her to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The nation is shifting towards electricity generated by natural gas over the past ten years 81 percent of new electricity capacity has been gas fired and state governments are playing regulatory catch up with the drilling technology s rapid expansion to meet this burgeoning demand . These harmful effects include; water droughts, increased pollution, the spread of toxins, and possible negative influence on local economies. Water droughts because of the fracking process are caused by using up to approximately one hundred times more water than previous drilling methods. This means that gradually less and less of the world where drilling is active or was active will have the ability to attain non chemical induced water. The article, List of Pros and Cons of Fracking published by Occupy Theory states that, Anywhere from 10 to 40 percent of fracking waste water flows back to the original drilling surface (http://occupytheory.org/list of pros and cons of fracking/) Hydraulic fracturing causes pollution in several different aspects. Oil and gas companies are not required to provide a list of chemicals used in the process which causes those in the areas where drilling is present to not be able to adapt correctly to these toxins.
