Mexican Americans During Ww2
The outbreak of World War II, led to many Mexican Americans to answer the call and join the U.S.
armed forces. Many Mexican Americans in the Southwestern states joined to social and economic
reasons, while others took advantage of wartime legislation that promised them citizenship in
exchange for service (Meier and Ribera, 160). Mexican Americans, primarily fought in combat
divisions, which many earned Medal of Honor, and there were less racial tensions between Mexicans
and Anglos, due to the army ranking system. Mexicans and Anglos, tossed aside their racial views
among each other and rather coordinated with each other in the war to accomplish their primary goals.
Mexican Americans came home, developing self esteem and confidence to acquire

The Second Shift By Arlie Russell Hochschild
The Second Shift by Arlie Russell Hochschild sheds light on the fact that America is stuck in a
perpetual loop, unable to change its societal gender expectations. Substantial progress has been made
when it comes to women in the workplace, but that same progress is lacking when it comes to a
woman s work within the home. When looking at employed women the term second shift can be
brought to the forefront. The expression second shift refers to the tasks done around the house after the
initial work hours are through. Hochschild critiques how the American career system treats the second
shift ; she makes it clear that the working American society has yet to take the additional shift into
consideration due to the already implemented ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Holts struggle with something known as a leisure gap, meaning that the husband, Evan, has more
time to relax compared to his significant other, Nancy. Anything having to do with their son Joey is
Nancy s responsibility. With the constant exhaustion due to the second shift , something as enjoyable
as sex has become undesirable. Sex for Nancy now, seems like more work. (page 99) Constantly
having to be the one to handle Joey has created a strong attachment between him and his mother. Evan
blames the attachment Joey has with his mother as a problem with the boys Oedipus complex, instead
of calling attention to his lack of involvement in Joey s life. This adds a lot of stress onto Nancy, who
wanted a more egalitarian household, she was always on a shift. Their marriage eventually dwelled
down to the housework following a concept they made called upstairs and downstairs , The downstairs
being the garage, storage, and hobbies, while the upstairs was the kitchen, dining room, bedrooms,
bathrooms, and living rooms. Nancy was tasked with the upstairs , while Evan the downstairs . What

National Federation of Independent Business v. Sebelius Life was different back in the 1880s. The
telephone had just been invented, James Garfield was president, and doctors used heroin and cocaine
as medicine. Alas, many doctors knew very little about medicine. Oftentimes unsafe and unsterile
practices were used on patients. The NY Times reports that, At least a dozen medical experts probed
the President [Garfield] s wound, often with unsterilized metal instruments or bare hands, as was
common at the time. Historians agree that massive infection, which resulted from unsterile practices,
contributed to Garfield s death. One man suggested that they turn the president upside down and see if
the bullet would just fall out. Because of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Since insurance companies are required to provide care, it makes sense to buy insurance only when
you need it. In other words, wait until you get sick to buy insurance, because they cannot turn you
down. In order to combat this, the law includes an individual mandate, which requires anyone that can
afford it to buy health insurance, or pay a penalty to the IRS. In essence, this is the part of the law that
pays for it all. This is also the section many Republicans hate. In their philosophy, the government
cannot force someone to buy something they may or may not need. They argued that this law was
unconstitutional, and they sued in federal court to have the law nullified. There were three cases
overall: one from the states (Florida v. U.S. Dept. of Health and Human Svcs.), one from the federal
government (U.S. Dept. of Health and Human Svcs. v. Florida), and one from the National Federation
of Independent Business (Nat l Fed. of Independent Bus. v. Sebelius). Due to conflicting rulings from

Arabian Economic Advantages And Disadvantages
After rapid growth in the international debt of developing countries in the 1970s and the increasing
incidence of scheduling back debt in the early 1980s, the risk of countries reflecting the ability and
willingness of a country to financial services has been a topic of concern for the international world
(Cosset and Roy, 1991).
As well as significant events that occurred on September 11, 2001, the associated risks in international
relations has increased substantially, and it becomes more difficult to be analyzed and predicted for
decision makers in the fields of Economics, finance and politics. International investors are also aware
that the globalization of world trade and capital market openness poses a risk that could cause the

However, in a country naturally has advantages and disadvantages. In a country that is strong in
economics may have a weakness in political or social fields. This is the one that causes a country still
has risks although is included in a State that has a stable economy.
One example is the case in the Arabian peninsula, the Levant. The Arabian peninsula is the name of a
giant peninsula in Western Asia that has the form resembles the boots. the continental climate is hot is
known as one of the more prosperous cities in the world thanks to the existing oil reserves beneath it.
However, not all the residents of the Arabian peninsula has a prosperous people. Yemen located in the
heel of the peninsula is an example of a country that is not lucky, because in addition to having only
meager oil reserves, Yemen must also wrestle with the war tearing his territory.
The factor ethnicity was a factor in the Arabian peninsula that also affect why conflict there lasts
incessant from past to present.

The Life Of Happiness And The Good Life
In this paper, I will argue that Aristotle is right when he says happiness or eudaimonia is when the
good life is a happy life, where happiness is the end goal. I will do so first by explaining how Aristotle
s eudaimonia theory found in Nicomachean Ethics is the aim of human life, a theory of happiness that
is still relevant today. Secondly I will share the key ingredients in Aristotle s recipe for happiness and
the good life. These include reason and virtues, pleasure and relationships, wealth and success. Lastly,
I will explain why I agree with Aristotle that the life of virtue fits best with the human life. That
eudaimonia is the pursuit of happiness, the goal that encompasses the totality of one s life. To start,
Aristotle wrote the Nicomachean Ethics, a collection of ten books. He starts by asking what is it that
humans are aiming at that would provide a good happy life? Aristotle s argument about the good is
also referred to as eudaimonia. The meaning of eudaimonia is generally translated to happiness . It is
the telos, final cause and goal for all living things. Aristotle refers to happiness as the highest aim of
human good and the ultimate end and purpose of human existence. In this paper, eudaimonia and
happiness will be used interchangeably. One can achieve eudaimonia and happiness by living well and
fairing well. To achieve happiness, it is to live as best a human being can live. It is not something that
can be gained or lost in a few hours like pleasurable

Ways To Grow Yeast Essay
Analysis: The production of carbon dioxide in the yeast with lactose had a lower average than the
average of yeast growing by it s self. The lactose sugar effected the respiration the most. Its average
growth was 3.896 and the plain yeast was 15.924; this makes the respiration rate 4 times smaller than
the respiration rate of the plain yeast. The yeast highest point was 19.75, while the lactose only went
up too 6.539; lactose is still 3 times smaller than yeast. Lactase was very harmful, while lactase and
sucrose didn t hurt as bad, but were not better than yeast. Lactase s average respiration was about half
of the yeast average respiration; while the average respiration of the sucrose in the almond milk was
also about half of the average respiration in yeast. When looking at the smallest of the yeast and
lactase you see the relationship of the lactase being half more clearly; the yeast smallest is 13.22,
while the lactase s is 6.07. Since 6 is half of 12, thirteen is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is important because we use yeast to make a lot of things, like bread and how much stuff uses
bread, a lot. Finding the most effect way to grow yeast means we could make more food, in a shorter
amount of time, and expending less resources. The research shows that we should use milk because
the lactose sugar in milk decelerates the producing of carbon dioxide in yeast, meaning less yeast. This
experiment was conduced to find a better method for growing yeast and milk wasn t the answer, but
going farther on discovering that milk supplements don t work either, they too decrease the respiration
of the yeast. Almond milk, which contains sucrose, decreased the amount of yeast by half making it
inefficient to use to make yeast in high quantizes. This experiment has shown that the best sugar
supplement for yeast is glucose, because it produces the most carbon dioxide, while lactose, lactase,
and sucrose produce less by at least

The pleasant suburb is recommended for families, young couples, professionals, singles, retirees,
hipsters, country lovers, and tourists because of its pleasant and peaceful neighbourhood. The
population density is not high so it s not crowded like the residential areas in the city proper. Its cost of
living is also moderately affordable. Anyone can easily feel at home here because the locals speak
languages other than English such as German, Greek, Italian, Macedonian, and Cantonese. All the
houses are separate from each other which give you a bigger space of your own to customise your
surroundings and backyard. The clean air and the natural sceneries in the suburb are perfect if you re
into hiking, jogging, and cycling. It s also very accessible to Adelaide because it will only take you

How Technology Is Becoming More Widespread
These days technology is becoming more widespread. The question is are we still reading as
attentively and thoroughly as we used to due to these new portable ways of reading. The main issue
here is that our attention is divided between pixels and link as our brains respond differently to
onscreen text than to words on paper. There have been many published studies since 1980 s where
researchers from different fields like psychology, computer engineering and information science have
brought up such issues in more than one hundred published studies. Many of these studies done before
1992, always concluded that people read slowly, less accurately and less comprehensively on screens
than on paper. In recent studies, it shows that people still like to read from paper especially when they
want to read intensively. Although the e reading technology is gaining more popularity and becoming
more common, people s attitudes are changing. They read these books for facts and fun. In the US,
there is about 15 to 20 percent of all trade book sales (Jabr, 2013). People are known to be less
conducive to learning from computers and tablets as compared to paper. Reading has a physicality.
When we already have an e book we start to miss it. There was a study done in January 2013 by Anne
Mangen of the University of Stavanger in Norway. Her colleagues and she asked 72 10th grade
students with similar reading ability to study one narrative and one expository text. Each essay was
about 1,500 words

Biochemistry is the Secret of my Future
Biochemistry is the Secret of my Future Excellence is not a singular act, but a habit. You are what you
repeatedly do, which serves as my personal motto as I find myself a very passionate person, always
looking for the top. In addition, having experienced different kinds of adversity, I learned the value of
not giving up. In fact, instead of giving up, I worked on prospective solutions to which I struggled
with. In spite of this merit, striving for success is always a characteristic of mine.
Graduation from the Faculty of Applied Medical Sciences, at the Umm Al Qura University (UQU) in

gain a wider understanding to further evolve my passion for Chemistry.
My ambition for Science and education is limitless as my short term goal is to achieve a Master s

gaining the acceptance to the Master of Science Program in Cellular and Systems Biochemistry at the
University of California, San Diego (UCSD), is a mandatory step toward my lifelong dream, which is
being an active member of a society and contributing to the field of Science. Moreover, I have the
keenness to expand my expertise in Biochemistry that will support my professional life as I have

May 17th, 2011 Although it is still open for debate, there are suggestions that chaplaincy, as a function
in the military, can be traced in the Old Testament. Consider the battle of the Israelites and the
Amalekites. The children of Israel experienced victory as long Moses held his hands up in Prayer to
God. Another example that is discussed in the book deals with the Priests who carried the Ark of the
Covenant in some of the battles ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The liturgy of war reveals how those entrusted with the spiritual care of the soldiers were used and
also how those soldiers were affected by the words of the religious men among them. Constantine is
known to have claimed seeing a vision of the cross which was an indication of divine help. And if his
soldiers were to paint the symbol of the cross on their shields then, victory would be granted. His
victory over the Roman Empire begun what was to be the Christianization of the conquered territory.
But it was during the rise of the Carolingian monarchy that seems to have changed the history of war
rituals. Doris Bergen mentions three factors that contributed to this change. These were, interest in
performance of liturgy, nature of warfare had changed and ambition of the new monarchy which
believed that both their activities were divinely sanctioned and that the ruler bore personal
responsibility for subjects minds and souls. The revival of liturgy credited to the Carolingians and the
application of a different kind of warfare in the middle east by the warriors of the first crusade that
resulted in great success, would later give birth to what Doris calls A new kind of war, a crusade, and
with it, the liturgical rites that

A personal manager officer is a supervisor and managerial position within the fire department. Under
general direction it is their job to lead, plan, organize, and direct the personnel management program

PERSONNEL MANAGEMENT SKILLS
It is important for a personnel management officer to have the skills that will allow him or her to

Robert Manley drove Elizabeth to the Biltmore Hotel in Los Angeles. This is where she was last seen

Real Bar, but that wasn t proven. Manley was disproven as a suspect as he returned to San Diego a
week before she was found dead and passed a polygraph test. He also took a Truth Serum test, or
Sodium Pentothal where he truthfully stated he didn t kill her. In 1954 he was admitted into a mental
hospital for hearing voices. Mark Hansen and Elizabeth were very well known with each other.
Elizabeth stayed in his house for a while. He was one of the last people who was heard from, by
Elizabeth. One of the items the Avenger sent was actually belonging to him and with that he became a
prime suspect. Many believe Hansen and Elizabeth were involved romantically, even though Hansen
had a girlfriend at the time. Hansen died of natural causes and no charges were ever put against him.
Before we get to our final suspect I d like to note that over 50 people have confessed to killer her, but
none were proven guilty. Many people also think a women was the killer. People think, that because
the body was so heavy, the murderer couldn t move the body so she was cut in half. A bunch of people
have also called in and said their relatives were the killer.

Applying Alfred Adler s Personality Theory to George W...
When choosing a famous person on which to do my research proposal on I decided on one of my
favorite presidents in my time. George W. Bush seemed to be the most real president we have had in
office since the 90 s. Next, I chose Adler s theory to apply to Bush do to the fact that is the theorist
that most closely applied to Bush s life. Let s start with some back ground about George W. Bush and
then apply Adler s theory. George W Bush was born on July 6, 1946. He was born in New Haven
Connecticut where his father was attending Yale University. George s father had served in World War
II as a Navy pilot ; he was using his GI bill like many other veterans to get back into the flow of

became the 43rd president of the United States on January 20, 2001. (Wade, 1999)
Now on to how Alder applies to George W Bush s life. First let s start with the where bush stands in
his family constellation. He is the first born of six children. (Wade, 1999) According to Adler
prediction the first child is the problem child. First born children are achievement orientated and feel
entitled to rank. Since they were born first they always prefer to be on top. (Frager Fadiman,
2013)According to research done parents are more anxious with their first born and therefore push
them harder then any of their other children. Research also shows that many first born s are type A
personalities. (Frager Fadiman, 2013) He tried hard all his life to stay on top in his parents eyes.
George has always been an achiever. When he was young he attended Camp Longhorn in the Texas
Hill Country. (Wade, 1999) Even at Camp he received the highest honor by receiving the Campfire
Lighter Award. You can only receive it once and you receive it by being an outstanding camper.
(Wade, 1999)Since his was young George has followed in his father s footsteps. He chose the same
prep school his father, Phillips Academy in Massachusetts. Both him and his father attended Yale
University. (Wade, 1999) He later attended Harvard to get his masters

advantage over the competition. Knowledge is certainly power, and the more knowledge that a firm
has, the more they are able to bring to the table. Not only do the customers put more trust into them
for the knowledge that they possess, but the confidence of the firm truly blossoms as well. Drucker

Analysis Of Sleepwalking Defense By Lindsay Lyon
After reading Lindsay Lyon s article about sleepwalking defense , it s clear this is a controversial pled.
The thought of being able to do anything in your sleep is an outrageous concept to grasp, let alone use
as a defense in a court room. Out of seven different cases in this article, there s only two that I could
come to terms with. State v. Bradley and Pennsylvania v. Ricksgers both involved the murder of their
significant others with a single gunshot during an unconscious state. In my opinion, these cases are
most relevant to the sleepwalking defense because it s more believable to think one action took place
before someone waking up then multiple actions. The Regina v. Parks case was a far stretch to try and
use sleepwalking defense.

Shark Attack Research Paper
There are over 100 million sharks in the world, and around 440 known species of sharks. Some sharks

humans. Because of this, many people are terrified of sharks and when they go to the beach they don t
even want to get into the water. Are people actually even in danger of being killed by a shark? In this
research paper I will be talking about that. Where do shark attacks happen? How often do shark
attacks actually happen? What kinds of sharks are the most dangerous? What do you do if you re

There are a few new really good inventions that could prevent shark attacks without the human not
even having to worry about all those small things. One of them being a camouflaged wetsuit or
surfboard graphics. These scientific patterns essentially make people invisible to the sharks due to the
inability that sharks have of seeing colors. Using these patterns on your wetsuit in conjunction with
the bottom of your board will make it harder for the shark to identify you. Another great invention that
prevents shark attacks is called The Clever Buoy. The Clever Buoy uses sonar, a system for the
detection of objects under water by emitting sound pulses and detecting their return after being
reflected, to detect the size and swimming pattern of a fish near any beach that the buoy is. When the
buoy picks up a signal, it wirelessly sends the information to lifeguards for them to monitor. Next, an

past shark encounters and details about the encounter. Including the date, location, the type of shark,
and the results of the occurrence. This helps because it could help you decide whether or not you
would like to go out into the water or not. Lastly, drones called Little Rippers. These drones cost
$250,000 and they come with an inflatable raft and a GPS that can be dropped to the person in danger.

Why Did The Beatles Became Popular During The 1960s
During the 1960s, if you heard the term revolutionary in the music industry, most people would
probably think that you re talking about The Beatles. They were considered revolutionary at the time
and now legendary because of how innovative and successful they were during this time. For the
Beatles, every record was a hit when it came out. An example of their success was during the week of
April 4, 1964, the Beatles were holding the first five slots on the Billboard Singles chart. This was a
feat no other band was capable of. Just like any other band the Beatles didn t just come about and be
successful. The grouping of John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr was a
happy coincidence. Originally, back in 1956 1957, John ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Like Chuck Berry, the Beatles would write and play their own songs. They even played cover songs
for many of Chuck Berry s most popular songs. Another band that influenced the Beatles was the
Beach Boys. Both the Beatles and the Beach Boys acknowledged the inspiration they had on each
other. An example of this was that the Beatles album Rubber Soul inspired the creation of Pet Sounds
album. Finally, one infamous inspiration the Beatles had was Bob Dylan. After being influenced by
Bob Dylan s style of folk music, the Beatles ended up releasing some folk rock mix of music like the
Byrds. Another influence from Bob Dylan was the start of the band members using marijuana.

Understanding and Treating Depression
Americans are obsessed with happiness, yet increasingly depressed. A dominant theme in our society
is that you should be happy, and if you are not, there is something wrong with you. Life can be
difficult at times and people do not seem to realize that everyone has different circumstances. There
are about 15 million Americans that battle the disease of depression. Our society is in the throes of a
virtual epidemic of depression (Psychology today). Depression is the most common illness seen in all
of medicine and people still have problems knowing what depression actually is such as its actual
meaning, causes, different types, the symptoms and how they ... Show more content on

When one is depressed it brings them down and they only seem to see the negative in everything.
They block out all the good. People become sad and start to feel helpless about many situations. When
a person stops doing what they do in normal basis, such as work or school, the depression seems to
increase. Even though the free time is for them to enjoy they will seldom feel enthusiasm, even for
things they use to look forward to (Center). The causes of depression vary from physical/biological,
some are psychological and some grow out of the situation. Most of the times it happens to be a
combination of all. A serious loss, chronic illness, difficult relationship, bereavement, financial
problem or any unwelcome change in lifestyle or patterns can also trigger a depressive episode. Some
people are physically and biologically more at risk for depression because of biological vulnerability
to depression can be inherited. Other factors are the possibility or stressful environment and other
psychosocial factors (Center).
Along depression there are symptoms; symptoms are the side effects of the illness. Symptoms are in
action when depressed and they are able to last for days, months even years when depression goes
untreated (Center). There are many symptoms that people can experience and some may not
experience them at all. Depression can cause physical symptoms such

The Success Of An Overseas Business Venture
When a company is conducting business internationally, understanding the culture of the country or
region, it is doing business with, as well as making sure the business fits the culture where it is doing
business, is extremely important. Not understanding the culture could mean that the product or service
affects the competitiveness, marketing, and could even have some political ramifications. An
understanding of the country s language, attitudes and beliefs, religion, material culture, social
education, legal characteristics, and political structures can have a positive impact on the success of an
overseas business venture. In order to run a successful international business, a business manager must
also become a student of culture and diversity. Before choosing a global market to sell a product or
service, a company needs to make sure that the product or service is a good fit for the culture. It is
important to know if the product or service is something that the culture of the country would need or
want. As an example, if a company sells cowboy hats, they are not likely to be very successful in a
country where the culture and religion requires the people to wear turbans. Knowing the culture and
its religions is important when choosing a country for as a global market. To be successful, a company
will want to know that its product or service will sell, and being successful in the United States does
not necessarily mean that a product or service will do well in other

Free Choice Of The Will By David Foster Wallace
Living a happy life is the goal that all humans strive for. All our actions point us to a direction that we
believe will make us happy. However, we must make the right decisions to live a truly happy life. Our
decisions we make are based on the desires we have. We can desire
Human beings have free will to make chooses in life. Life is filled with decisions, that we make every
day rather we are aware of them or not. Decisions are much harder than just choosing from right and
wrong, because both choices have consequences we desire. We must choose what desires we give
focus to and choose what we worship. Augustine in the book On Free Choice of the Will, writes about
the different types of goods and how are decisions are based on desire of those goods. David Foster
Wallace also focuses on our decisions being based on what we worship in the Kenyon College
Commencement Address . A fulfilling and happy life is only achieved by making the right decisions,
which is achieve by putting priority on the right desires. Augustine in the book On Free Choice of the
Will, talks about two different types of goods. Augustine states that it is clear that some human beings
love eternal things while others love temporal things (Augustine 24). Eternal things are lasting goods
that can be held onto simply by wanting to hold on to them. Temporal goods cannot be held simply by
desire. Examples of eternal goods are things prudence, fortitude, temperance, and justice. These
eternal goods are goods

Symbols Of The Totem Pole
the totem pole is a monument created by Northwest Coast Aboriginal peoples to serve variously as a
signboard, and memorial. Carved of large, straight red cedar (type of wood) and painted with vibrant
colours, the totem pole is emblematic of both coastal Aboriginal culture and Northwest Coast
Aboriginal Art Different First Nations have their own methods of designing and carving totem poles.
The Haida, for example, are known to carve creatures with huge eyes, where some would typically
have narrow eyes. The Coast Salish tend to carve representations of people on their house posts, where
others tend to carve supernatural beings on their poles. And all of these totem poles represent a very
special and important parts of an aboriginal person.
In general, however, poles are skilfully carved of wood not stone, and are usually painted black, red,
blue, blue green and sometimes white and yellow. Poles vary in size, but house front poles can be over
one metre in width at the base, reaching heights of over 20 m and generally facing the shores of rivers

Standard Oil Rise and Fall
JEST
Shortly before the Civil War, Rockefeller and a partner established a shipping company in Cleveland,
Ohio. The company made much money during the war. In 1863, he and his partner invested in another
business that refined crude oil from Pennsylvania into kerosene for illuminating lamps.By 1870,
Rockefeller and new partners were operating two oil refineries in Cleveland, then the major oil
refining center of the country. The partners incorporated (under a charter issued by the state of Ohio)
and called their business the Standard Oil Company. To give Standard Oil an edge over its competitors,
Rockefeller secretly arranged for discounted shipping rates from railroads. The railroads carried crude
oil to Standard s refineries in Cleveland ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When independent companies tried to compete, Standard Oil quickly cut prices sometimes below cost
to drive them out of business. Then Standard raised prices to recoup its losses.
The benefits of having a monopoly like Standard Oil in the country was only realized after it had built
a nationwide infrastructure that no longer depended on trains and their notoriously fluctuating costs, a
leap that would help reduce costs and the overall price of petroleum products after the company was
dismantled. The size of Standard Oil allowed it to undertake projects that disparate companies could
never agree on and, in that sense, it was as beneficial as state regulated utilities for developing the
U.S. into an industrial nation
Economies of Scale
As small companies compete, you naturally get market leaders. As these companies get larger they
become more efficient at producing goods and services. They invest in mass production techniques in
order to produce goods more cheaply than their competitors. They buy raw materials at cheaper prices
because they buy in bulk. They expand specialization amongst their workforce. They also copyright
and patent their work, preventing rivals from using it. This is known as economies of scale. The bigger
you get, the easier it is to make money. Smaller companies cannot compete. This is called a barrier to
entry. If you wanted to compete with Ford motor cars, for example, just one car plant would set you
back around $500 million.

Salinity Stress on Plants Essay examples
Salinity Stress on Plants
All plants are subjected to a multitude of stresses throughout their life cycle. Depending on the species
of plant and the source of the stress, the plant will respond in different ways. When a certain tolerance
level is reached, the plant will eventually die. When the plants in question are crop plants, then a
problem arises. The two major environmental factors that currently reduce plant productivity are
drought and salinity (Serrano, 1999), and these stresses cause similar reactions in plants due to water
stress. These environmental concerns affect plants more than is commonly thought. For example,
disease and insect loss typically decrease crop yields by less than ten percent, but severe ... Show more

The plants that grow in saline soils have diverse ionic compositions and a range in concentrations of
dissolved salts (Volkmar et al., 1998). These concentrations fluctuate because of changes in water
source, drainage, evapo transpiration, and solute availability (Volkmar et al., 1998). Due to these
varying conditions, plant growth depends on a supply of inorganic nutrients, and this level of nutrients
varies in time and space (Maathius and Amtmann, 1999). Either extreme condition concerning
nutrients results in deficiency or toxicity in plants, and this is demonstrated by salt tolerance
(Maathius and Amtmann, 1999). These conditions vary according to the plant species and growth
conditions. Little is known about the genetic basis for diversity of salt tolerance in plants, and this
could be partly explained through the definitions given for salinity.
Plants in natural environments are being exposed to increasing amounts of salinity. One third of the
land being irrigated worldwide is affected by salinity, but salinity also occurs in non irrigated land
(Allen et al., 1994). There are large areas of primary salinity, but secondary salinity can be detected
within one hundred years of settlement on an area of land. Drought and salinity are connected because
in many regions, raising plants requires irrigation. The irrigation water contains calcium, magnesium,
and sodium (Serrano et al., 1999). As the water evaporates and transpires, calcium and magnesium

the narrator s sense of order is not the best. She also tells us, that she has dry washed her hair,

It seems that she is in a drastic development. She is married, but yet she wants to be divorced, and

Justice In The O. J. Simpson Trial
The O.J. Simpson trial was an emotional, time consuming, battle where one side consisted of the
families of two murdered people, and the other of a famous athlete and actor alongside his defense

no justice in this case. Nicole Brown and Ron Goldman lost their lives and no one was put in prison to
pay for these murders, yes, Simpson had to pay a large sum of money to the families of these two

The Hero s Journey in Modern Film Essay
Countless quest narratives ranging from modern texts all the way back to ancient texts have all
conformed to a certain archetypal structure. Christopher Vogler writes:
All stories consist of a few common structural elements found universally in myths, fairy tales,
dreams, and movies. They are known collectively as The Hero s Journey. Understanding these
elements and their use in modern writing is the object of our quest. Used wisely, these ancient tools of
the storytellers craft still have tremendous power to heal our people and make the world a better place
(xxvii).
Being one of the world s most popular art forms, it was inevitable that these archetypes would find
their way into film as well. In this essay I will argue that the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

However, since the hero is part of society, the journey is also one of personal development. On a more
psychological level, one could suggest that the hero s quest is symbolic of all personal conflict.
Conflict begins when a problem arises that must be dealt with. Most people, at first, refuse to come to
terms with whatever this problem may be, and attempt to ignore it. With enough mental determination
and/or aid from an outside source, however, one can bring themselves to cross the first threshold, and
begin their journey into the heart of the problem. For example, victims of rape or other types of abuse
must face what is haunting them in order for it to be exorcised properly.
In the beginning of any narrative that follows a monomythical structure, a reluctant hero is called to
adventure. In Pulp Fiction, this hero is Jules Winnfield. Jules is called to adventure when Marcellus
Wallace instructs him and Vincent to collect his briefcase from Brett s apartment. Interestingly
enough, this occurs before the film even begins, as we are first introduced to Jules and Vincent in
medias res as they make their way to the apartment. Usually the next stage is supernatural aid, where
the hero receives help with their journey by some otherworldly force, but Tarantino chooses to switch
this stage places with the first threshold. The first threshold is when the hero faces a threshold
guardian, standing for

Howard s workchoices for quiet sometime and must focus on recruiting new members (Brigden, 2008,
pg 365) if unions are going to remain within Australia. Human Resources practices have also impacted
on unions as managers within a workplace are encouraged to now work directly with their employees,
rather then including a third party such as a trade union ( Balnave et al, 2007, pg 169). Because of this,
trade union members will continue to decline Benefits of joining a union: Joining a union can be
extremely beneficial for its members. A union offers it s members the chance to join a collective
support rather then fight individually. It increases economic benefits, increases productivity and
workplace protection ( Balnave et al, 2007, pg 131). The culture of the workplace may also influence

Miranda vs. Arizona Essay
Miranda vs. Arizona:
This case had to do with an Ernest Miranda who raped a Patty McGee*. After extracting a written
confession from the rapist about the situation, Miranda s lawyer argued that it was not valid since the
Phoenix Police Department failed to read Miranda his rights, also in violation of the Sixth Amendment
which is the right to counsel. Some factors that helped support Miranda s arguments were that the
suspect had requested and been denied an opportunity to consult with a lawyer; the suspect had not
been effectively warned about his right to remain silent; and an incriminating statement must have
been given by the suspect. The author of the Arizona court s decision, former U.S. Senator and ...

That day, the justices honed in on the Fifth Amendment aspects of the case, which pleased John Flynn
to no end. The last man to present a position in the case before the court was Thurgood Marshall,
whose personal opinions were diametrically opposed to the position of his employer, the U.S.
government.
Once the arguments were done, there was nothing left to do but wait as the justices debated the issue
among themselves and issued a written opinion, probably in four or five months. The traditional
process called for the justices to listen to oral arguments on Monday through Thursday, then to take
preliminary votes and assign opinion authorships during a private meeting again attended only by the
justices on Friday. Based on the political makeup of the Supreme Court in the spring of 1966, it was
widely speculated that a majority would come down in some form on the side of Ernest Miranda.
In the decision, Flynn, Frank and especially Ernest Miranda won hands down.

questioning initiated by law enforcement officers after a person has been taken into custody or

Culturally Relevant Services
In this paper, I will be exploring and explaining about the culture that I am studying in
order to present it to my classmates for Miss Dennette Derezotes Social Work 345 class. I will
try to give my classmates a better understanding about the way this culture lives, in what is to
them a new land. Undocumented immigrants is the culture that I chose to write about in my
paper. When I use the term undocumented immigrants, I am referring to all those that are living
in the United States with no legal documentation. Foreign born persons that have no legal right
to be in or remain in the United States. Undocumented immigrants consist of people from

Sternberg and Barry clearly helped us to understand that this is not true,
woman from poor countries migrate to prosperous countries (often illegally) and take jobs that
local citizens reject as to menial or low paying (Sternberg and Barry, 2011, Pg. 65). The
undocumented immigrant might have to make a sacrifice and leave their family behind in their
country when making the journey to the United States. But there are several things that cannot be
left behind no matter where he or she goes to. One of those many things is their cultural tradition.
For many, going to church and praying to God is an important tradition passed down from
generation to generation. In Detained and Deported, Mariana is a great example of this tradition.
Regan describes her as a devout Christian who had very little time to herself between school,
work and church (Regan, 2015, p.46). When she was detained she started singing hymns and
praying to her God (Regan, 2015, p.247). When in custody, she did not forget about her tradition
and got others involved in prayers (Regan, 2015, p.59). She always found time to pray to her
God. Many undocumented immigrants, before crossing over to the United Sates, made a quick
stop their church and get a cross figure or an amulet and have the priest or father bless it for

  • 2. Mexican Americans During Ww2 The outbreak of World War II, led to many Mexican Americans to answer the call and join the U.S. armed forces. Many Mexican Americans in the Southwestern states joined to social and economic reasons, while others took advantage of wartime legislation that promised them citizenship in exchange for service (Meier and Ribera, 160). Mexican Americans, primarily fought in combat divisions, which many earned Medal of Honor, and there were less racial tensions between Mexicans and Anglos, due to the army ranking system. Mexicans and Anglos, tossed aside their racial views among each other and rather coordinated with each other in the war to accomplish their primary goals. • 3. The Second Shift By Arlie Russell Hochschild The Second Shift by Arlie Russell Hochschild sheds light on the fact that America is stuck in a perpetual loop, unable to change its societal gender expectations. Substantial progress has been made when it comes to women in the workplace, but that same progress is lacking when it comes to a woman s work within the home. When looking at employed women the term second shift can be brought to the forefront. The expression second shift refers to the tasks done around the house after the initial work hours are through. Hochschild critiques how the American career system treats the second shift ; she makes it clear that the working American society has yet to take the additional shift into consideration due to the already implemented ... Sex for Nancy now, seems like more work. (page 99) Constantly having to be the one to handle Joey has created a strong attachment between him and his mother. Evan blames the attachment Joey has with his mother as a problem with the boys Oedipus complex, instead of calling attention to his lack of involvement in Joey s life. This adds a lot of stress onto Nancy, who wanted a more egalitarian household, she was always on a shift. The telephone had just been invented, James Garfield was president, and doctors used heroin and cocaine as medicine. Alas, many doctors knew very little about medicine. Oftentimes unsafe and unsterile practices were used on patients. The NY Times reports that, At least a dozen medical experts probed the President [Garfield] s wound, often with unsterilized metal instruments or bare hands, as was common at the time. Historians agree that massive infection, which resulted from unsterile practices, contributed to Garfield s death. Since insurance companies are required to provide care, it makes sense to buy insurance only when you need it. In other words, wait until you get sick to buy insurance, because they cannot turn you down. In order to combat this, the law includes an individual mandate, which requires anyone that can afford it to buy health insurance, or pay a penalty to the IRS. In essence, this is the part of the law that pays for it all. This is also the section many Republicans hate. In their philosophy, the government cannot force someone to buy something they may or may not need. They argued that this law was unconstitutional, and they sued in federal court to have the law nullified. There were three cases overall: one from the states (Florida v. U.S. Dept. of Health and Human Svcs.), one from the federal government (U.S. Dept. of Health and Human Svcs. v. • 6. The Life Of Happiness And The Good Life In this paper, I will argue that Aristotle is right when he says happiness or eudaimonia is when the good life is a happy life, where happiness is the end goal. I will do so first by explaining how Aristotle s eudaimonia theory found in Nicomachean Ethics is the aim of human life, a theory of happiness that is still relevant today. Secondly I will share the key ingredients in Aristotle s recipe for happiness and the good life. These include reason and virtues, pleasure and relationships, wealth and success. Lastly, I will explain why I agree with Aristotle that the life of virtue fits best with the human life. That eudaimonia is the pursuit of happiness, the goal that encompasses the totality of one s life. To start, Aristotle wrote the Nicomachean Ethics, a collection of ten books. He starts by asking what is it that humans are aiming at that would provide a good happy life? Aristotle s argument about the good is also referred to as eudaimonia. The meaning of eudaimonia is generally translated to happiness . It is the telos, final cause and goal for all living things. Aristotle refers to happiness as the highest aim of human good and the ultimate end and purpose of human existence. In this paper, eudaimonia and happiness will be used interchangeably. One can achieve eudaimonia and happiness by living well and fairing well. To achieve happiness, it is to live as best a human being can live. • 7. Ways To Grow Yeast Essay Analysis: The production of carbon dioxide in the yeast with lactose had a lower average than the average of yeast growing by it s self. The lactose sugar effected the respiration the most. Its average growth was 3.896 and the plain yeast was 15.924; this makes the respiration rate 4 times smaller than the respiration rate of the plain yeast. The yeast highest point was 19.75, while the lactose only went up too 6.539; lactose is still 3 times smaller than yeast. Lactase was very harmful, while lactase and sucrose didn t hurt as bad, but were not better than yeast. Lactase s average respiration was about half of the yeast average respiration; while the average respiration of the sucrose in the almond milk was also about half of the average respiration in yeast. When looking at the smallest of the yeast and lactase you see the relationship of the lactase being half more clearly; the yeast smallest is 13.22, while the lactase s is 6.07. • 9. How Technology Is Becoming More Widespread These days technology is becoming more widespread. The question is are we still reading as attentively and thoroughly as we used to due to these new portable ways of reading. The main issue here is that our attention is divided between pixels and link as our brains respond differently to onscreen text than to words on paper. There have been many published studies since 1980 s where researchers from different fields like psychology, computer engineering and information science have brought up such issues in more than one hundred published studies. Many of these studies done before 1992, always concluded that people read slowly, less accurately and less comprehensively on screens than on paper. In recent studies, it shows that people still like to read from paper especially when they want to read intensively. Although the e reading technology is gaining more popularity and becoming more common, people s attitudes are changing. They read these books for facts and fun. In the US, there is about 15 to 20 percent of all trade book sales (Jabr, 2013). People are known to be less conducive to learning from computers and tablets as compared to paper. Reading has a physicality. When we already have an e book we start to miss it. There was a study done in January 2013 by Anne Mangen of the University of Stavanger in Norway. Her colleagues and she asked 72 10th grade students with similar reading ability to study one narrative and one expository text. Each essay was about 1,500 words ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

And if his soldiers were to paint the symbol of the cross on their shields then, victory would be granted. His victory over the Roman Empire begun what was to be the Christianization of the conquered territory. But it was during the rise of the Carolingian monarchy that seems to have changed the history of war rituals. Doris Bergen mentions three factors that contributed to this change. These were, interest in performance of liturgy, nature of warfare had changed and ambition of the new monarchy which believed that both their activities were divinely sanctioned and that the ruler bore personal responsibility for subjects minds and souls. The revival of liturgy credited to the Carolingians and the application of a different kind of warfare in the middle east by the warriors of the first crusade that resulted in great success, would later give birth to what Doris calls A new kind of war, a crusade, and with it, the liturgical rites that ... When independent companies tried to compete, Standard Oil quickly cut prices sometimes below cost to drive them out of business. Then Standard raised prices to recoup its losses. The benefits of having a monopoly like Standard Oil in the country was only realized after it had built a nationwide infrastructure that no longer depended on trains and their notoriously fluctuating costs, a leap that would help reduce costs and the overall price of petroleum products after the company was dismantled. The size of Standard Oil allowed it to undertake projects that disparate companies could never agree on and, in that sense, it was as beneficial as state regulated utilities for developing the U.S. into an industrial nation Economies of Scale As small companies compete, you naturally get market leaders. As these companies get larger they become more efficient at producing goods and services. They invest in mass production techniques in order to produce goods more cheaply than their competitors. • 32. Montville Descriptive Writing Buzz! All three of our alarm clocks go off. Chantele and I had the hardest time waking up since we fell asleep last. Lauren and her mom were already awake, showered and ready to go. I couldn t imagine if I had to drive from my house in Montville, Connecticut to the Bradley International Airport since our flight was at 5:30 A.M. Luckily we got a hotel directly across from the airport, so it didn t end up being such a long car ride. After the short drive to our terminal, we wait for my other classmates to arrive. After waiting what seemed like years, the group was all there. Mrs. Nick, my instructor, was her usual fun loving self; which of course meant that she had to take photos of all of us together. She was so excited for the trip. To her, it didn t matter if it was 6:00 in the morning, yet I was really nervous since I had never been on a plane before. Waiting for the plane to take off, flashes of Final Destination popped into my head. After being in the air for a little while I started to enjoy seeing everything from 40,000 feet in the air. • 33. Salinity Stress on Plants Essay examples Salinity Stress on Plants All plants are subjected to a multitude of stresses throughout their life cycle. Depending on the species of plant and the source of the stress, the plant will respond in different ways. When a certain tolerance level is reached, the plant will eventually die. When the plants in question are crop plants, then a problem arises. The two major environmental factors that currently reduce plant productivity are drought and salinity (Serrano, 1999), and these stresses cause similar reactions in plants due to water stress. These environmental concerns affect plants more than is commonly thought. For example, disease and insect loss typically decrease crop yields by less than ten percent, but severe ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The plants that grow in saline soils have diverse ionic compositions and a range in concentrations of dissolved salts (Volkmar et al., 1998). These concentrations fluctuate because of changes in water source, drainage, evapo transpiration, and solute availability (Volkmar et al., 1998). Due to these varying conditions, plant growth depends on a supply of inorganic nutrients, and this level of nutrients varies in time and space (Maathius and Amtmann, 1999). Either extreme condition concerning nutrients results in deficiency or toxicity in plants, and this is demonstrated by salt tolerance (Maathius and Amtmann, 1999). These conditions vary according to the plant species and growth conditions. Little is known about the genetic basis for diversity of salt tolerance in plants, and this could be partly explained through the definitions given for salinity. Plants in natural environments are being exposed to increasing amounts of salinity. One third of the land being irrigated worldwide is affected by salinity, but salinity also occurs in non irrigated land (Allen et al., 1994). There are large areas of primary salinity, but secondary salinity can be detected within one hundred years of settlement on an area of land. Drought and salinity are connected because in many regions, raising plants requires irrigation. The irrigation water contains calcium, magnesium, and sodium (Serrano et al., 1999). As the water evaporates and transpires, calcium and magnesium ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Simpson trial was an emotional, time consuming, battle where one side consisted of the families of two murdered people, and the other of a famous athlete and actor alongside his defense team, that kept the world glued to their seats in front of their television screen. I believe that there was no justice in this case. Nicole Brown and Ron Goldman lost their lives and no one was put in prison to pay for these murders, yes, Simpson had to pay a large sum of money to the families of these two victims, but was the money really enough? • 37. The Hero s Journey in Modern Film Essay Countless quest narratives ranging from modern texts all the way back to ancient texts have all conformed to a certain archetypal structure. Christopher Vogler writes: All stories consist of a few common structural elements found universally in myths, fairy tales, dreams, and movies. They are known collectively as The Hero s Journey. Understanding these elements and their use in modern writing is the object of our quest. Used wisely, these ancient tools of the storytellers craft still have tremendous power to heal our people and make the world a better place (xxvii). Being one of the world s most popular art forms, it was inevitable that these archetypes would find their way into film as well. In this essay I will argue that the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, since the hero is part of society, the journey is also one of personal development. On a more psychological level, one could suggest that the hero s quest is symbolic of all personal conflict. Conflict begins when a problem arises that must be dealt with. Most people, at first, refuse to come to terms with whatever this problem may be, and attempt to ignore it. With enough mental determination and/or aid from an outside source, however, one can bring themselves to cross the first threshold, and begin their journey into the heart of the problem. For example, victims of rape or other types of abuse must face what is haunting them in order for it to be exorcised properly. In the beginning of any narrative that follows a monomythical structure, a reluctant hero is called to adventure. In Pulp Fiction, this hero is Jules Winnfield. Jules is called to adventure when Marcellus Wallace instructs him and Vincent to collect his briefcase from Brett s apartment. Interestingly enough, this occurs before the film even begins, as we are first introduced to Jules and Vincent in medias res as they make their way to the apartment. Usually the next stage is supernatural aid, where the hero receives help with their journey by some otherworldly force, but Tarantino chooses to switch this stage places with the first threshold. The first threshold is when the hero faces a threshold guardian, standing for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The unions however will remain tarnished from Howard s workchoices for quiet sometime and must focus on recruiting new members (Brigden, 2008, pg 365) if unions are going to remain within Australia. Human Resources practices have also impacted on unions as managers within a workplace are encouraged to now work directly with their employees, rather then including a third party such as a trade union ( Balnave et al, 2007, pg 169). Because of this, trade union members will continue to decline Benefits of joining a union: Joining a union can be extremely beneficial for its members. After extracting a written confession from the rapist about the situation, Miranda s lawyer argued that it was not valid since the Phoenix Police Department failed to read Miranda his rights, also in violation of the Sixth Amendment which is the right to counsel. Some factors that helped support Miranda s arguments were that the suspect had requested and been denied an opportunity to consult with a lawyer; the suspect had not been effectively warned about his right to remain silent; and an incriminating statement must have been given by the suspect. The last man to present a position in the case before the court was Thurgood Marshall, whose personal opinions were diametrically opposed to the position of his employer, the U.S. government. Once the arguments were done, there was nothing left to do but wait as the justices debated the issue among themselves and issued a written opinion, probably in four or five months. The traditional process called for the justices to listen to oral arguments on Monday through Thursday, then to take preliminary votes and assign opinion authorships during a private meeting again attended only by the justices on Friday. Based on the political makeup of the Supreme Court in the spring of 1966, it was widely speculated that a majority would come down in some form on the side of Ernest Miranda.
