Puritan Beliefs In John Winthrop s A City Set On A Hill
A City set on a Hill is a phrase that became popularized in the American politics, and it emanates from
the parable of Salt and Light in the New Testament. In Matthew 5:14, Jesus tells the crowd that was
listening to him, You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden (New King
James Version). John Winthrop, an English Puritan lawyer, had a vision for Boston that it would be A
City Set on a Hill. This is a vision that has over the years been replicated by the United States of
America as it has strived to set an example on the world stage as a beacon of freedom and hope for the
entire world. The phrase a city set on a hill refers to a society that others people will look up to
(Morgan 76). By using this phrase, Winthrop describes the Massachusetts Bay colony, which he
supposed would turn out to be an outstanding example of Puritan faultlessness. Although this phrase
has a religious undertone, it can be used to describe the aspects that the United States ought to
emulate.
A Model of Christian Charity is a sermon that was delivered by John Winthrop in 1630 while he was
on board of the ship Arbella which was sailing to the Massachusetts Bay Colony. This sermon is best
known for its application of the phrase City upon a Hill regarding the founding of the United States,
and later used in the description of American exceptionalism (Morgan 112). A city set on a hill stated
they intended to live the way God wanted them to live as well as

Comparing Griswold Vs. Connecticut
Griswold vs Connecticut
Madison Hayworth
Clovis Community College
November 25, 2015
Often times in today s world we take certain luxuries for granted. The right to vote, the right of free
speech, etc. But one of those luxuries that people often don t consider is the right for women to use
birth control. The Supreme Court case that argued for the use of contraceptives was Griswold vs
Connecticut. The court case was argued March 29th 30th 1965, but was not decided until June 7th
1965. The case was on the debate of whether or not the use of contraceptives should be legalized.
Griswold, the Executive and Medical Director of Planned Parenthood League of Connecticut, was on
the side arguing for the legalization of the use of contraceptives in a marriage. While the opposing
side, the state of Connecticut statute, had forbidden the use of contraceptives since 1879.
The Appellant, Estelle Griswold, had been counseling married couples at the Planned Parenthood
League of Connecticut, located in New Haven. The counseling aimed to give them medical advice as
well as information about different types of contraceptives, such as devices or drugs. Ms. Griswold
would meet with married couples and discuss which form of contraception was the right fit for the
patient. Due to the fact that these actions broke a Connecticut law that criminalized counseling about
birth control, Griswold and one of her colleagues were both found guilty. Nine days after the Planned

Professional Development in Early Childhood Education Essay
The first few years of a young child s life, from birth to four years old, are very critical to his/her
overall development, due to most of the time, teacher professionals are individuals who play the key
and an active role in their early childhood development are teacher professionals who have a passion
and a genuine desire to help them learn, grow and succeed in their education. These are just a few
roles that early childhood educators plays in the field of early childhood education for working with
young children in their early childhood years of life, which the requirements, most of the time, are to
have both a formal education and passing teacher certification score.

childhood educator who predominantly teaches young children, ranging from four to five years old,
who has to have a special skill set in order to accommodate her young children s academic and
behavioral needs as well as nurture them as they develop and grow; this special skill set includes an
early childhood educator that is, compassionate, creative, flexible, patient, and most of important,

Indian Removal Of The Cherokee Indians
They cried, they wept, they grew stronger. It was a story of hope, courage, and survival. This was the
Trail of Tears. Many events led up to the Cherokee s removal. The Indian Removal caused the
Cherokee indians to move west. A man named Major Ridge struck lots of bargains with the United
States. This man, Major Ridge, was one of the native sons, born in 1771, that lived in the Cherokee
territory. The Cherokee s lived in the Christians Eden because they believe their ancestors once lived
in the same area. Throughout Major Ridge s youth years, the Shawnees, Choctaws, Chickasaws, the
Creeks, and the United States endangered the Cherokees. Mr. Ridge and his family watched his town
get burnt down by riflemen due to picking the wrong side during the American Revolution. The
Cherokees watched their world change all around them. The Cherokee population dwindled to 12,000
in 1805, and lost over half their precious land. The United States wanted the Cherokees land, and for
them to move west. The Americans offered a path for them to walk down. The Americans developed a
policy called civilization which taught the Cherokees how to grow wheat; how to eat meals at regular
set times instead of when ever they pleased, how to dress; how to speak English; how to pray in
church at certain set times. The United States wanted all the tribes to be equivalent of their white
neighbors. Thomas Jefferson states that they could be equal to the whites. John Ross was the future
Cherokee chief; he grew

Eu vs Nafta
Abstract
The paper addresses important concerns of the European Union and the NAFTA, NAFTA s functional
structure. A brief introduction if NAFTA and EU confront one another.
Executive Summary
Some would doubt that the formation of NAFTA was the American response to the European Single
Act that formed the EU, which is made up of 27 countries. There is nothing to gain for both the blocs.
However in some areas, peaceful co existence and some form of stricter ties between the EU and
NAFTA would prove to be beneficial for both.
Introduction
The NAFTA and the European Union comprising of 27 countries comprise the biggest blocs in the
world. The two trade blocs are also highly interdependent through foreign direct investment. In 2007,

.
The NAFTA: A Regional agreement without institutions
NAFTA represents a market of 379 million people with $6.5 trillion in production. The drive behind
NAFTA was the establishment of a free trade area. Despite being a trilateral, it aimed at increasing
international trade through the elimination of trade barriers. NAFTA could become more competitive
in the world economy.
The primary purpose of NAFTA is to assist the North American region in becoming more
economically competitive with the rest of the world. It consists of US, Canada and Mexico. They set
the rules regarding trade, investment and the provision of services. Despite the fact that free trade
provides benefits, removing a trade barrier could cause damages to the shareholders and employees of
the industry. The groups that get affected by foreign competition use politics to get protection from
imports.
E.g. According to the U.S. International Trade Commission, US gaining from removing trade
restrictions on textiles and apparel would have been nearly $12 billion in 2002.
The EU has become more economically integrated by becoming a common market. This removes
barriers to production, like capital and labor.

Explain Why Matt Should Not Have Gone To The Indian Village
Matt was alone. In a cabin in the woods all by himself, he was keeping house till his parents came. He
met an Indian boy who invited him to his village. Should he go? Matt should not have gone to the
Indian village for these three reasons. They were not familiar people, it was not his usual trail, and he
was not the expected champion. The first reason Matt should not have gone to the Indian village is
that they were not familiar people. He did not understand their ways, their speech, or their dances. He
was totally clueless about the Indian culture, except what he had heard from his teachers. He would
likely say or do something foolish, and offend someone, and who knows what they might do to him if
they got angry. He was not familiar enough

Persuasive Essay On Public Transportation
Imagine yourself sitting in traffic, you are just in your car and the engine is just going and gas is being
wasted and the fumes coming out which pollute our environment. You look out and see that it is still
bumper to bumper on I 680 going to work, you are stressing out because you might be late for work.
Then when you go back home, it s the same bumper to bumper traffic. All this time you could have
just been with your family, helping your kids with their homework, or work on something for your
job. Traffic is a major issue for 21st century cities, it is hurting our economy and our environment.
One solution to this is a major issue is to invest in public transportation and encourage more people to
ride public transportation. I am calling for the Federal Transportation Administration, state, and local
governments to invest more in public transportation and spread the awareness of public transportation.
Public transportation is beneficial to our communities by providing a solution to traffic and the havoc
it causes on our lives. Public transportation can carry way more people per hour at full capacity than
the typical single commuter car. Freeways with cars that carry on average 1.2 persons per car in
medium traffic (around 30 mph) will only carry 1,080 people per hour. At max, a freeway can carry
1,800 cars per hour and that only results in 5,400 passengers per hour if there were 3 passengers per
car. Compare that to the average heavy rail (BART, NYC Subway, MBTA) train

Kerbstone In Pompeii
In the summer of 79 A.D., Mount Vesuvius erupted, earning its infamy by destroying Pompeii and
many surrounding Roman towns in southern Italy. This volcanic disaster, considered one of the worst
in history, buried the ancient Roman city of Pompeii under a carpet of volcanic ash. When
archeologists and explorers rediscovered the site, they found that under the ruins, dust, and debris,
Pompeii was fairly intact. The remains of the buildings, artifacts, and skeletons led researchers to
piece together what daily life would have been like prior to the eruption. Author Robert Harris and
director Paul Anderson both attempt to recreate this catastrophic event through their novel and movie,
respectively, both given the title Pompeii. Harris and Anderson ... Show more content on

To ensure the correct layout, a helicopter was flown over the ruins to capture aerial views to use in the

discusses the purpose of kerbstones and stepping stones in his article The Circulation of Traffic in
Pompeii s Region VI , explaining how kerbstones were raised higher than the roads because of
flooding, and stepping stones were placed throughout streets so that people could cross without getting
dirty because of the lack of a proper sewage system INSERT FOOTNOTE. In the film, Anderson

depicted the street life during the day. Towards the beginning of the movie, the streets were shown
crowded with townspeople, many of whom were purchasing goods from bakeries or walking to and
from work. Kellum supports this representation in her article Spectacle of the Street INSERT

Advantages Of Privatization Of Air Traffic Control In Usa
Privatize air traffic control in USA
Introduction
Air traffic control involves the directing of aircraft on the ground through the use of airspaces and
advising the planes in non controlled skies. Currently, control of air traffic in the United States is done
by the federal aviation administration. The current President Donald Trump has proposed to privatize
the exercise. Moving the task to a non profit organization will benefit America in various ways. Most
importantly, it will modernize equipment s and training making the process more efficient.
Additionally, it will ensure a more stable funding for the operation thus enhancing sufficient security.
From the benefits of privatization of air traffic control in the USA, it is imperative that the legislators
fully support the move.
Discussion
Privatization of air traffic control in the United States will significantly contribute to the
modernization of the system. With the current management of air traffic control by the federal aviation
(FAA) administration, it is impossible to modernize the system. FAA can easily be manipulated by
politicians since they are not independent institutions thereby making it possible to move agenda of
the organization forward. For instance, embezzlement of funds is likely making it almost impossible
to purchase modern equipment s that can help in the running of the systems. However, allowing the
process to be controlled by a non profit organization will enhance

Why Is The Pearl Bad
Sometimes one must search for a valuable pearl and find the true villain of that world. The search for
that pearl does not need to go any farther than John Steinbeck s The Pearl. In this story, the assumed
hero, Kino, finds a valuable pearl and starts the downfall of his family with this pearl and his
covetousness for money. So Kino s family and friends are the heroes, while the real villain of The
Pearl is Kino.
Kino knew that the pearl was evil, but he still did not give the pearl away. Kino himself stated that Do
not speak anymore. In the morning we will sell the pearl, then the evil will be gone, and the good will
remain. Now hush my wife. Kino knows that the pearl is evil, but he s caught up in his ambitious
dreams. And he loses the chance to sell the pearl, proving ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Kino knew that the pearl was evil, but Kino was not listening, and he started the downfall of his

stated that, This pearl is like a sin! It will destroy us. Kino acts like he is a man, shows no respect to
his wife, and tells his wife that everything is alright when it is truly not. Kino does not care about the
evil that will hurt his family, he just wants the money. Kino shows a lot of ignorance, which proves the
fact that Kino is the true villain of this story.
Overall, the true villain of this churning story is the one and only Kino. His own thoughts, his abusive
actions, and his ignorance of others truly show that he is the real villain of this story and he brought
down his family. Great stories such as John Steinbeck s The Pearl offer a view of the true villain that
disguises itself as the hero. The story of a villain disguised as the hero is truly an epic story throughout

The Collective Bargaining Process Of The Uaw
This report represents the analysis of the collective bargaining process of the UAW (known as the
CAW today) and GM (General Motors), presented in the film The Final Offer , 1985. Canada and the
United States were part of the negotiations with General motors to reconcile a bargaining settlement in
1984. There was a compromise among labor and management that resulted to strike throughout
months of the negotiation process. Craig as well as Hebdon and Brown have framed 3 hypotheses that
will concentrate on the economic situation, the consequences of strike, in addition to, the community
interests during bargaining and negotiations. The factors mentioned have been founded by
categorizing the actors, diverse environments, outputs and the conversion mechanisms. Prior to
analyzing the 3 hypotheses we should define the main actors that were a part of the negotiations.
Management part included Rod Andrew (Canadian GM negotiator) and Roger B Smith (United States
GM negotiator). Labor part included Owen Bieber (UAW agent), Buzz Hargrove and Bob Nickerson
(UAWC deputies), as well as, Robert White (UAWC director). Also, the votes that powerfully counted
were the Canadian plant legislators, therefore, based on that we count them as actors. During 4 nerve
wrecking months, there were comprehensive negotiations and discussions among the management and
labor to achieve a sensible understanding agreement between the parties. The strike made an impact
on the agreement, which made a great

Psychological Theory Of The Movie The Flash
Should a superhero show have a perfect example of psychological theory to be successful? Some
television viewer would not care, since it is a fictional story, but I believe so. For a superhero show to
connect with people, not only does it need to have a great action and fight scene, but the show need to
be realistic, at least in a psychological level way. One show in mind that does a great job in executing
this is, the DC comic book hero character The Flash . The Flash experience different psychological

Global Mental Health Issues
Mental health is one of the global issues that have a significant impact on the international community.
Mental health concerns are eminent globally and in every population. There are about 200 classified
forms of mental health disorders, but the common ones include anxiety, depression, schizophrenia,
post traumatic stress, dementia, bipolar disorders, and schizophrenia (Ahonen, 2014). The World

mental disease, in particular, mental disorder. 25 % of the United States adults are suffering from

First, it affects the performance of the health care by increasing service demand since most of mental
disorders require complex intervention. Besides, the treatment of these numerous disorders will bring
in a strain within the health care center, thus declining the health services efficiency. Moreover, it
results in crowding out affects within the hospitals as some patients with severe mental disorders will
need to stay longer in the hospital. Consequently, this creates more demand for hospital beds and
related services. Mental illness increases health care expenditure since hospitals incurs extra cost in
hiring therapist, psychiatrist, etc. (Olesen et al., 2012). Besides, the health systems suffer more cost in
organizing awareness campaigns. On the other hand, the CDC is working collaboratively with other
organizations such as Pregnancy Risk Assessment Monitoring System (PRAMS), National Institute of

surveillance of mental illnesses. Consequently, the organization recommends an increased monitoring

Effect of Light Color on Plants
Introduction
Living organisms have been classified by humans according to several different characteristics, one of
them being the manner in which they obtain nutritive organic molecules (1), in other words, their
food. Plants are denominated as autotrophs, organisms that can produce their own food from abiotic
sources surrounding them, such as light, carbon dioxide and water (2). Plants use these three factors in
photosynthesis to convert light energy into chemical energy, which is then stored until the plant needs
it, or used right away (3).
The process of photosynthesis takes place on organelles (substructures inside eukaryotic cells) called
chloroplasts, more specifically, on the membrane of the thylakoids inside the chloroplasts, ... Show

The cellophane secured with the rubber band created a seal that was too tight, preventing excess water
from evaporating which overloaded the plants with water and deprived them of enough oxygen.
Towards the end of the week, the plants were left covered by the cellophane, but unsecured by the

were on average 0.06g lighter than at the beginning of the week, when they were planted . The mass

more specifically nature, is started, and idealized. The next two poems, by Raleigh and Williams,

The poem The Nymph s Reply to The Shepherd , by Sir Walter Raleigh, responds to Marlowe s poem

The Trials From World War II, South Africa
No one possesses a magic wand which the architects of the new dispensation could wave and, Hey
presto! things will be transformed overnight into a promised land flowing with milk and honey (Tutu

throughout the country. Instead of modeling the Nuremberg Trials from World War II, South Africa
implemented Truth and Reconciliation Commissions (TRC). This process guarantees pardon for any
confess crime associated with a political objective (Ruden 2). Desmond Tutu, the archbishop of the
Anglican Church in South Africa, praises and advocates the TRC; whereas, Sarah Ruden, an American
living in South Africa, criticizes the RTC process based on two main objective points. Ruden sees the
RTC process as not enforcing the laws as well as not giving victims enough reparations. While Ruden
does present logistical evidence in her negative assessment of the TRC process, Tutu presents a more
convincing assessment of the TRC process since he disputes using a trial system, while also
explaining why economically and socially the TRC process was a successful solution to the post
apartheid society in South Africa.
Initially, Tutu begins his assessment by effectively dismantling the idea that putting perpetrators from
the apartheid area on trial would have been a viable solution. Tutu theorizes that the security forces of

Abols And Symbolism In Yann Martel s Life Of Pi
Do bananas really float? This is a problem that two characters in Life of Pi struggled comprehending
towards the end of the the story. Life of Pi by Yann Martel is about a boy named Pi Patel that ends up
stranded on a lifeboat with a tiger, in the Pacific. In Life of Pi a major key thematic statement that
Yann Martel makes during Pi s journey is that just because things may seem unrealistic, it doesn t
mean that people cannot overcome or complete a task . Yann uses the island s setting, Pi s religious
development, and the banana symbolism to deliver his thematic message.
First unrealistic task that came about would be the island s setting, along the unusual setting in
general. Not very often, if ever is it usual to hear about being stranded on an acidic island with a tiger,
but as we can see from Yann s story it can happen. Yann sets Pi running into an acidic island made of
no soil, but alge instead. As Pi is explaining to the investigators, they have a really hard time believing
Pi. Pi had been through a lot during his journey, and Yann adds how Pi is hoarding food from being so

negative attitude both toward themselves and the player. At that time, even though I was actually
angry myself, I would both stop the other players from yelling and offer encouragement to the one
who had made the mistake. For the most part, I would simply offer some advice by pointing out what
he had done wrong and told him how to do it right the next time. Thereby, I would always keep a very
positive attitude and told the players that they were doing well, but they just had to do it better next
time. I know that the way I approached the problem helped maintain a positive attitude among all the
players. This approach led to the team playing better and winning more. Another application in which
an optimistic attitude has proven to be very beneficial has been in academics. Notably, there have been
classes in which assignments were difficult for me and led to less than sufficient grades. Even though I
was disappointed with my poor performance, I always stayed optimistic about bringing the grades
back up. The one time that stood out among

Architecture And Modern Architecture

people have homes and can survive. It is interesting to consider that architecture began in the Crude
Ages. Within architecture, buildings must have to main types of structures. Modern architecture is a
type of architecture that focuses more of aesthetics than on function. In order to understand this topic,
it is first necessary to know about architecture s history, the fundamentals of architecture, and the
modern aspect of architecture. The first thing one must understand is the history of architecture.

The Human Desire For Wealth And Inclusion
COME AS YOU ARE: An Appeal to the Basic Human Desire for Wealth and Inclusion
Every day, Americans are surrounded by countless advertisements. On the way to work, billboards and
radio ads bombard the senses. Most ads are quickly forgotten while others stick with the audience.
What makes some ads memorable and others forgettable? The product may be visually appealing,
from a desirable brand, or presented as a solution to the viewer s problem such as anti aging cream for
wrinkles. Such is the case for an ad for The Venetian resort and casino in Vanity Fair, a high end
magazine. Featured in the ad is an older woman sitting invitingly on a luxurious white bed with
bountiful pillows. This ad may appeal to a high socio economic class of viewers with a desire to
belong in a high class society in accordance with a term called snob appeal (134), coined by Stuart
Hirschberg, the Associate Professor at Rutgers University. The argument suggests advancing age will
not interfere with having fun by targeting a specific audience, using unconventional visual appeals, a
logical text structure, The Venetian s status to establish credibility, and opportune timing.
A trip to Las Vegas entails spending several hundred dollars on a hotel alone. Combining this with
gambling, shows, sightseeing, flights, and food, the trip can amount to over five thousand dollars. This
ad is only attempting to reach individuals who can afford a stay at The Venetian. The majority of

Road Warrior: How to Break into Commercial Truck Driving
Becoming a commercial truck driver is a dream for some people who want to get paid for exploring
the country. Read on to learn how to break into the field of commercial truck driving.
Get a Commercial Learners Permit (CLP)
Driving skills and experience are a must for breaking into commercial truck driving. The CLP allows
the holder to drive on public roads with a CDL holder with them. Keep in mind that getting the permit

However, every state s DMV will be able to verify specific state wide laws. For example, some states
require special endorsements for trucks carrying hazardous materials while others require special
endorsements for driving trucks with triple trailers. Most DMVs require people to pass an exam that
covers laws, equipment and driving techniques. Similar to a driver s license, there will probably be a
vehicle inspection and driving skill demonstration.
Lease or Loan a Commercial Truck
Having a truck will help you break into commercial truck driving. A lease or loan will both require
monthly payments and provide a rig, but there are notable differences between the two. A commercial
truck lease gives you the right to use the truck as you see fit, but there are many rules that apply. The
biggest benefit of leasing a truck is that most of the minor repairs and major maintenance jobs will be
covered. On the other hand, a commercial truck loan is like a car loan because you will own the truck
once you finish making payments. Some truckers prefer a loan because a lease may end up costing

How to Make a Heroine
Viola is the heroine, a brave, strong and intelligent girl from the book Twelfth Night by William
Shakespeare.
First of all, Viola is brave because she manages to be a boy in a foreign country far from her home.
She is able to complete the duties of a man despite being female. In this quote from Viola to the
Captain, Viola decides to serve the Duke disguised as a eunuch.
The form of my intent. I ll serve this duke; thou shalt present me as an eunuch to him―
It may be worth thy pains for I can sing,
And speak to him in many sorts of music,
What else may hap, to time I will commit;
Only shape thou thy silence to my wit. (1.3.55 61).

and energy to get through whatever may happen. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Viola sacrifices her happiness for the Duke s by giving up the person she is in love with. It would be
hard emotionally helping two people love each other when you are in love with one of them. Dealing
with the assumed death of her brother, surviving a shipwreck and pretending to be a boy would take a
lot of mental strength.
Finally, Viola is intelligent. When talking with Feste, Viola spoke in a witty and intelligent manner.

Pros And Cons Of Canadian Broadcasting
Necessities of Canadian Broadcasting
Listen to the radio, heard of CBC? The CBC stands for the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation. The
first government run radio station was created in 1936 in Ottawa, Canada. . It was created by the
government for Canadians. The purpose of the radio station was to spread and share news across
Canada. The government created other groups as well for more coverage, for example NFB, CRTC,
and the Canada Council. Presently, the groups still provide plenty of Canadian content. They preserve
the Canadian identity, they preserve Canadian content, and they provide Canadian coverage of sports
and news. Overall these networks are still necessary and useful in Canada to this day.

Without these numerous Canadian channels Canada would have to rely more on American channels.
With Canadian watching more American channels it would allow for less Canadian content to be

coverage and less Canadian coverage it could mean important Canadian events and activities may not
be covered. Channels like the CBC are responsible for showing Canadian sports such as the how
Canada is doing in the NHL or the Olympics. As well as the CBC shows Canadian news and
important event that are happening to Canadians in Canada. Canada and America are close distantly
but both countries have very different viewpoints. These views on the world are shared between
countries via television and radio and if Canadians were to see more American news they may develop
a new way to see Canada and may want to start changing the country. With that it could mean a loss of
Canadian culture, beliefs and principles. Canada has built itself up on being multicultural and America
is not known for its beliefs in being diverse. With the country seeing negative views on innocent
people it may lead to issues in Canada later on. America is known for its very popular music and a lot
of American music is played and adored by Canadians but because of the CRTC Canadians will be
able to experience the Canadian culture and these stations help provide that. With the culture is also a
Canadian pride of the content made in the country. Without the CRTC there would be a lack of
Canadian artists and many people would not know as many Canadian artists that came from Canada.

The Miami Vice Fad
Regardless of when this question has been posed to me, without giving much thought I quickly revert
to the late eighties, and the Miami Vice fad. It is unfortunate that I cannot say with certainty, just how
widespread, the fad was, or now that I review, whether, the fad was a fad or a trend, because, I don t
know exactly how long the popularity of this style began. Per Bruce Cohen (2013) a fad is something
that spikes and wanes, where a trend sort of simmers and gradually becomes popular.
I recall receiving a shipment of suits, regardless of the owner s intent for the suit, I immediately
envisioned the Miami Vice look, which included a variation of Stacy Adams footwear, and short
sleeve tee shirts. My first sale of the ensemble interrupted my completing the actual display; and the
sales continued. I can literally say that repeat sales were made from that purchase as one told a friend,
and so, on, and so on. I was impressed, excited and amazed at the demand.

Comparing The Uffizi In Florence And Liverpool s Town Hall
The two building I decided to compare were The Uffizi in Florence and Liverpool s Town Hall. The
Uffizi, built by Alfonso Parigi and Bernardo Buontalenti in 1580 in a pre industrial Florence, was
primarily built to house the offices of thirteen Florentine magistrates and guilds in one place , and
from this position they would have had authority over the entire Republic of Florence. Whereas the
Town Hall built from 1749 1754, during the industrial revolution, was designed by John Wood , but
was largely rebuilt in the early 19th century, adding a dome and south facing portico to the existing
building. It served a variety of functions, including the Mayor s Courtroom and a customs warehouse.
Since 1952 it has been a grade 1 listed building , referred to as one of the finest surviving 18th century
town halls . Unlike the Uffizi, the Town Hall, only had authority over the local area and people.
However this allowed them to have more control over people s daily lives. The Uffizi, Florence (2016)

My Favorite Types Of Poetry
If you have ever read a book or listened to music, you have probably experienced poetry. Poetry is a
literary work in which special intensity is given to the expression of feelings and ideas by the use of
distinctive style and rhythm. There are many types of poetry and each has its own effect on the words.
There are over fifty types of poetry. Poetry is categorized by the number of lines in the poem, the
words in the poem, whether it rhymes or not, and what it is about. Some types of poetry examples
include haiku, free verse, sonnets, and name poems, although there are many more types as well
(Oxford living dictionaries ).People usually use the types of poetry they like best. I will tell you a little
bit about a few types of poetry that are my favorite.
Out of all the types of poetry, my most favorite type is a haiku. Haikus are poems consisting of three
lines. The first line has five syllables, the second line has seven syllables, and the third line has five
syllables. Haiku is a traditional form of Japanese poetry (Kidzone Poetry). Haikus are usually used as
a focus on nature. Traditionally, they are in the present tense and focused on associations between
images. Being so short, a haiku is open about its purpose. This type of poem may be short, but used in
the correct way, it can be very powerful to get a message across.

lines. When writing a sonnet, you will

An Analysis Of Louise Erdrich s The Red Convertible
Mailk Sims Often times, an inanimate object can be as important and sometimes more important than
the characters of the story. In Louise Erdrich s The Red Convertible, the car played the same important
role as the characters did, but for different reasons. Two brothers, Lyman and Henry, had very little in
common other than their blood. One day they decided to catch a ride to Winnipeg. The car was
introduced while these two were doing some sightseeing in the city. They spotted the red Oldsmobile
convertible. Lyman, the storyteller, almost made the car a living thing when he said, There it was,
parked, large as life. Really as if it were alive. (461) The brothers used all of the money they had, less
some change for gas to get home, to buy the car. The car s significance was the bond that it created
between the brothers. The purchase of the vehicle brought these two together with a common interest:
the car. Once the bond was formed, the brothers became inseparable, at least for a while. The boys
spent the whole summer in the car. They explored new places; met new people and furthered the bond
that the car had created. When they returned from their trip, Henry was sent to war. He left the car
with Lyman. While Henry was gone, Lyman spent his time pampering and fixing the car. Lyman saw
the car as an extension of Henry. Lyman used the car to maintain an emotional bond with his brother
who was thousands of miles away. During the war, Henry was taken P.O.W. and spent time

Questions and Answers on Criminal Procedure
1. Does the information included in the warrant application amount to Probable Cause? Why or why
not? Probably not. This would be defined as an anticipatory search warrant, but the information
provided by the confidential informant includes statements that are mostly vague: Dory was planning
to sell Golden Starfish within an open ended date, she probably will deliver the stolen merchandise at
some point, and she usually rents a room at the specific hotel named. None of this qualifies as reliable
recent information as to criminal activity; as for proposed or future criminal activity, there are not
sufficient facts here to indicate an event that would be sufficient to qualify as a triggering condition .
According to the US Supreme Court s decision in U.S. v Grubbs (2006), what is required in an
anticipatory search warrant is a triggering condition that would permit the execution of the warrant on
the fair probability that contraband would be discovered if the search were executed no such condition
appears to be included here, when the best that is offered for a triggering condition is that Dory has
rented a room. The fact that the detective overheard mention of the Golden Starfish through the door is
irrelevant to the establishment of probable cause for the warrant, though. 2. Of what significance, if
any, is the two week period for serving the warrant? Ordinarily a search warrant cannot be served if
stale information is included in the search warrant

A Historical Framework For The Contemporary Racial Of Mexico
With the recent discovery of 1.38 million Afro Mexicans based on a population survey conducted in

ancestry in Mexico (Quartz). First, why were nearly 1.4 million Afro Mexicans not recognized in
Mexico s population census by the National Institute of Statistics and Geography, which began data
collection of Mexican citizens in 1983 (Colorlines)? Secondly, how has their lack of representation at
the national level impacted them geographically?
Throughout this paper, I will answer the aforementioned questions by establishing a historical

Additionally, I will outline the static nature of Afro Mexican identity through an analysis of the
popular cartoon Memin Penguin. I will explain how this stagnant representation of Mexican blackness
isolates the Costa Chica of Guerrero from other spaces in Mexico. I will conclude by addressing why
this topic is significant to my scholarship as a student and what I hope further scholarly investigation
will uncover.
Before I unpack social racism in Mexico, it is important to distinguish two key points for reading this
paper. First, I use the terms African or Africanness and black or blackness interchangeably to represent
specifically Afro Mexicans in the Costa Chica of Guerrero who identify racially as black. Secondly,
white is used to distinguish White Mexicans while mestizo[s] signifies racially mixed Mexicans with
predominantly Spanish European and Indigenous Amerindian ancestry (Jerry). Mexico s Social
Racism
In order to understand how 1.38 million Afro Mexicans have remained hidden, I must first recount
their origins in Mexico dating back to the Spanish colonial era. During the 16th and 17th century,
100,000 250,000 African slaves were forcibly transported to New Spain to work on the sugarcane
plantations (Githiora). Most arrived at the Veracruz Port in South Central Mexico along the Gulf Coast

Pros And Cons Of Liquidated Contract
Scenario 1
Most of businesses would like to add a liquidated damages clause (or agreed damages clause) in their
business contracts, as it protects the parties of contract not to being any breach. Also it helps to

clause is to compensate the losses of innocent party by the guilty party, but not penalize the party in

Liquidated damages or specified sums are provided by parties in their contract. They are effective in

caused the delay are not applicable for the contract, PLC and Mode Designs should also record those
situations in the contract.
PLC and Mode Designs must define clearly the events may incur at the time contract is made. In the
case that the delay is arisen because of the third party, Mode Designs should or should not pay the

Living With Dementia
Introduction Dementia is a generic term used to describe symptoms that indicate significant loss of
intellectual and cognitive functions which includes memory, thinking and communication such as
changes in social behaviour and problem solving and the ability to carry out day today activities
(Alzheimer s society, 2014). The current estimate of people living with a form of dementia in the
United Kingdom is around 850,000 and has predicted to increase to over 1 million by 2025 and over 2
million by 2051 (Alzheimer s society, 2014). Of those affected with dementia, 90% eventually

and psychological symptoms include agitation, aggression, restlessness, depression and anxiety. These
symptoms cause higher morbidity and a poorer quality of life for patients and carers (Nilamadhab,

Summary Of Evil And Omnipotence By J. L. Mackie
J. L. Mackie s Evil and Omnipotence criticizes the argument that God exists by showing that religious
beliefs are positively irrational and that parts of the essential theological doctrine are inconsistent with
one another. The problem of evil is one of the oldest problems in philosophy. The problem of evil is a
logical problem for only the people who believe that there is a God who is both (1) omnipotent and (2)
wholly good; yet (3) evil exists in the world. If God is wholly good and omnipotent, then how can
there be a presence of evil in the world. Given the presence of evil, we must either conclude that God
does not have the power to prevent the suffering that evil causes in which case God is not omnipotent
or that God does not wish ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, these solutions are only temporary or almost adopted by the thinker because the thinker may
not be consistent in their definitions and convert back to the old definitions. Therefore, these solutions
are not true solutions, so we must find another way to solve the problem of evil.
The next set of solutions are called fallacious solutions. A fallacious solution is a solution defined as
an argument which rejects one of the propositions but then, implicitly reasserts it later in the argument
to solve the problem. However, these fallacious solutions use an equivocation use of the words good
and evil , which cause vagueness about how good and evil are opposed to one another. Mackie notes
that these so called solutions may seem plausible at first, but, in fact, do not amount to a solution
which rejects any principle that causes the contradiction.
The first fallacious solution is that Good cannot exist without evil. The idea behind this solution is that
evil is a necessary counterpart of good. Without evil, there could be no good in the world. Therefore,
God could not have created the world without any evil in it because there would be no good. By
saying that God cannot create good without creating evil at the same time contradicts premise one
(that God is omnipotent) and premise five (that there are limits to what an omnipotent thing can do).
Mackie rejects this

with joy. Holy shit! Derek said. My God! said Arthur. The three of them patted each other on the backs
and shook hands, laughing. This is amazing! said Arthur. Unbelievable! said Derek. How on earth did
these get here? James asked smiling. The diamonds were as big as golf balls, and some as small as
grains of rice. Each one was clear and shimmering. This is the loot of a world class thief! Derek said
and picked up the bag. Derek carried the bag on his shoulder, smiling proudly. And now its ours! Were
rich! Arthur and James followed behind. Arthur ran forward and did a cartwheel. This has to be worth
millions. Just think how much

When Joseph Stalin Took Over Russia After Lenin By 1928,
When Joseph Stalin took over Russia after Lenin by 1928, the country s policy on how it was going to
industrialize changed. Stalin said, We are fifty or a hundred years behind the advanced countries. We
must make good this distance in ten years. Either we do it, or we shall go under. 12 Stalin believed
that if the USSR did not industrialize then it would be the death of them because they will be
vulnerable both economically and militarily. Stalin said, Everything can be achieved, everything can
be overcome, if there is a passionate desire for it. 13 By saying this Stalin is reassuring the people with
doubt that this goal can be accomplished. In order for this seemingly impossible task to be
accomplished passionate soviets would be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The difference between Lenin and Stalin was that Stalin wanted this all done in ten years so he was
more drastic than Lenin. Peasants were not at all pleased because they liked how they were prospering
before, so to retaliate they burned their crops and slaughtered their livestock as to sabotage what the
central government was trying to do and how they were trying to get it done.18 The slaughter of
livestock and burning of crops led to the famine of 1931 1932 that caused the death of five to seven
million people.19 The Ukraine was especially hit hard by famine it was not unusual for families to
starve and stay alive for as long as they could then they would just die.20 The famine caused so many
deaths that trains were needed to collect corpses from peasant villages who had died from starvation
.21 In extreme cases, although not too uncommon, families would turn to cannibalism to stay alive.
Some families even murdered their children and would eat them in order to continue on living.22 In
order to get the actual work done Stalin made changes in society. One change was the conditions of
labor, now forced labor was the norm and it was always intensely disciplined.23 There were life and
death incentives to having a job. If someone was fired from their job then they were

Psychosocial Analysis
I have been extremely lucky to have been introduced to new and exciting experiences throughout
many of my stages of development. My experiences in blended families, travel and the friendships I
have made throughout the years have created a culturally diverse backdrop for my developmental
journey so far. These life experiences include a number of diverse cultures in which I am not always a
part of, but have learned so much about up to this point, and will continue learning about throughout
my life. During middle childhood, ages 6 12, my life changed dramatically. Up until this point I had
lived a rather sheltered life from what I can gather. I mainly played with children of my own race, who
were from middle to upper middle class families and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, I can now see why I may take charge in certain situations, where others will take a step
back. This sense of self awareness is extremely important when working in helping professions, as it
is difficult to help others when you lack an understanding of the situation as a whole. This knowledge
will also be necessary when taking into account that every person s story is different, even when they

Why College Students Are Not Success In College
Through the years in America, more students in each generation of college are being successful and
finishing college. The latest data show that just 40 percent of Americans have finished an associate s
degree or above, while an additional 22 percent attend some college but failed to graduate (Kelly, p.1).
The 22 percent of college students who are failing to graduate, could be the college students who are
not being successful in college. There are many reasons why students are not successful in college.
Some main reasons students are not successful in college are typical because of drugs, stress, time
management and procrastination, lack of desire and persistence and also poor self esteem and lack of
self confidence. One reason why students are not successful in college is that of drugs. When students
leave their homes to go off to college they meet new people, and experience overjoy of new freedom.
When students notice that they are experiencing new freedom, they try new and different things. One
of the main things students try that are new and different, depending on where the student is from, are
drugs. Students use drugs for a lot of different reasons. Students use drugs to cope with stress, try to
maintain course load, and they are influenced by peer pressure. In college, drugs are taken too far once
students start to use them. Those who are enrolled in a full time college program are twice as likely to
abuse drugs and alcohol than those who don t attend college (College students and Drug Abuse). The
students who abuse drugs in college are the students that are normally not successful in college. The
drugs take over the mind and students become unfocused and behind in school work, which leads to
students failing out of college. Another reason why students are not successful in college is that of
stress. Relationships, family issues and cost of tuition are stress related factors that are dealt with a
college student. The America Institute of the street website says, a 2008 mental health study by the
Associated Press and mtvU eight in 10 college students say they have experienced stress in their daily
lives over the past three months (Stress in College Students p. 1). The college that I

Artificial Intelligence in William Gibson’s Neuromancer...
Artificial Intelligence in William Gibson s Neuromancer Artificial Intelligence is a term not too
widely used in today s society. With today s technology we haven t found a way to enable someone to
leave their physical body and let their mind survive within a computer. Could it be possible? Maybe
someday, but for now it s just in theory. The novel by William Gibson, Neuromancer, has touched
greatly on the idea of artificial intelligence. He describes it as a world where many things are possible.
By simply logging on the computer, it opens up a world we could never comprehend. The possibilities
are endless in the world of William Gibson. This world of artificial intelligence has the power to
produce many questions ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With today s technology we haven t found a way for a computer to think for itself. This can only
happen with the potentialities that will develop over time. The future may hold great opportunities for
this new found world. The environment inside the computer system is called cyberspace. This is the
place where Case logs on, it describes the surroundings that he sees. Cyberspace, as the deck
presented it, had no particular relationship with the deck s physical whereabouts. When Case jacked
in, he opened his eyes to the familiar configuration of the Eastern Seaboard Fission Authority s Aztec
pyramid of data. (Page 105) In Cyberspace, your physical body is still present on earth, you mind is
the only thing that shifted into a different universe. In Case s situation, he was familiar with his
surrounding, and knew what to expect. Cyberspace is a place like virtual reality where you can see all
around you in three dimensions, but it s not real. It s a world all made up within a computer system.
The program can be described comparable in size to the Internet. The Internet has endless
possibilities, but instead of pointing and clicking from the outside world, you can physically touch the
surroundings almost like you are there. There are many possibilities with artificial intelligence. This is
a world where a genius mind can create a life and survive with no physical surroundings. This enables
the power to move about freely by

The Scale Of Global Climate Disruption Essay
The scale of global climate disruption is too great to conquer with only statements of commitment and
generalized solutions, especially given that many nationally determined contributions (NDCs) are not
enough to limit warming to 2 degrees. Given the massive scope of the changing climate system,
addressing and solving the causes can be accomplished and observed more effectively on a smaller
scale, such as provided by cities, businesses, and institutions of higher learning, which compose an
impactful proportion of the larger body (state or nation). The only way to effectively integrate
sustainable solutions broadly is to examine small scale successful measures in living laboratories, and
to then implement those more widely and efficiently. This allows greater regions to tailor and adapt
solutions to fit into their community.
There needs to be integration on all levels of society and among the various stakeholders in order to
have any hope of restricting warming to 1.5 2 degrees Celsius, therefor limiting the disastrous
potential impacts. This report will detail and inventory some of the most ambitious climate action
plans and applied policies from a selection of the most influential and innovative cities, businesses,
and universities in the world. Data collected from policies around the world as well as emissions
targets relay the actions already in place. Additionally, an analysis of the methods within California
and Sweden in terms of GHG emissions, reductions targets and

How Did Charles Lindbergh Influence The World
Throughout the history of the human race, there have always been individuals who stood out from the
rest of mankind. These people were most often than not, pioneers, adventurers, men and women who
were seemingly ahead of their time. These people led the way towards the advancement of the society
as a whole.
Some used the influence they gained to continue to relentlessly pursue whatever they first became
famous for, while others used their influence to sway the minds of the public in other matters. There
were those who bathed in the spotlight as well as those who hid from it. But one thing can be sure of,
these people definitely left a lasting mark in history. One such person was Charles Lindbergh.
Hailing from the United States of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His arrival was met with more than a hundred thousand local spectators who had come to witness
aviation history in the making. His successful solo transatlantic flight made him into an instant
celebrity causing people to crowd around him wherever he went. It also earned him countless
prestigious honors such as the Distinguished Flying Cross medal from Calving Coolidge who was
then the US president.
With his new found fame, Lindbergh spent much of his time in promoting the aviation field while
going around the United States with his iconic plane the Spirit of St. Louis. While visiting various
cities in the US, he would participate in countless parades as well as give speeches. His fame grew to
such height that he was soon regarded as an international celebrity who was nicknamed Lucky Lindy
and The Lone Eagle . By 1927 he released a book entitled We , about his historic flight which quickly
became a bestseller. Throughout all his rising fame and influence, Lindbergh had always stuck to
helping the aviation industry as well as other causes which he felt important.
On another such instance, Charles Lindbergh had completed a goodwill trip from the US to Mexico
where he met the US Ambassador s daughter, Anne Morrow. A few months later in 1929 Lindbergh
had married Morrow who he would teach how to fly airplanes. The two would

Essay on Tupac vs Biggie
Chris Jacobson Miss Lindquist English 101 15 November 2010 Fearless Rhymes To gaze into the
lyrics of both Notorious B.I.G. and Tupac Shakur is like living in the ghettos of New York City where
violence never stops. Both of these artists grew up seeing and living a life filled with violence.
Gunshots and drive byes, death and murder were a daily occurrence. Although the lyrics of both artists
are simply telling their life stories and how hard it was to grow up in their hoods they contain vulgar,
hateful, and sexual verses that send the wrong message to their listeners. Whether these listeners are
teens or adults, white or black, they are continually sending notions of hatred and fear through their
lyrics and actions. Ultimately, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It may be hard for a kid to understand why his parents didn t want him or her listening to Pac or
Biggie s lyrics, but as their actions on TV and in music videos displayed the same notions, their fear
only increased. For both artists, they had videos displaying women with nearly nothing on, smoking,
drinking and carrying weapons, but kids people liked it. That s why both of these artists are known as
the best of all time. What they didn t see though was the rising amount of disrespect towards women,
increase in drug sales and an enormous increase in gun violence during this time. This is proven by
Lindsay John, The endemic of violence in the black community can be directly traced back to the
whole irresponsible images of black masculinity which is fed to us through music. (174) Along with
the videos, they had concerts that displayed rash and harsh comments towards not only whites but also
law enforcement. Like in this lyric by Tupac: Without a cop harrassing me, searching me Then asking
my identity Hands up, throw me up against tha wall Didn t do a thing at all I m tellen you one day
these suckers gotta fall Cuffed up throw me on tha concrete Coppers try to kill me Not only are they
sparking fear in their listeners about guns and killing, but they are also putting a false sense of fear
into them about the police department. If the thought

  • 2. Puritan Beliefs In John Winthrop s A City Set On A Hill A City set on a Hill is a phrase that became popularized in the American politics, and it emanates from the parable of Salt and Light in the New Testament. In Matthew 5:14, Jesus tells the crowd that was listening to him, You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden (New King James Version). John Winthrop, an English Puritan lawyer, had a vision for Boston that it would be A City Set on a Hill. This is a vision that has over the years been replicated by the United States of America as it has strived to set an example on the world stage as a beacon of freedom and hope for the entire world. The phrase a city set on a hill refers to a society that others people will look up to (Morgan 76). By using this phrase, Winthrop describes the Massachusetts Bay colony, which he supposed would turn out to be an outstanding example of Puritan faultlessness. Although this phrase has a religious undertone, it can be used to describe the aspects that the United States ought to emulate. A Model of Christian Charity is a sermon that was delivered by John Winthrop in 1630 while he was on board of the ship Arbella which was sailing to the Massachusetts Bay Colony. This sermon is best known for its application of the phrase City upon a Hill regarding the founding of the United States, and later used in the description of American exceptionalism (Morgan 112). • 3. Comparing Griswold Vs. Connecticut Griswold vs Connecticut Madison Hayworth Clovis Community College November 25, 2015 Often times in today s world we take certain luxuries for granted. The right to vote, the right of free speech, etc. But one of those luxuries that people often don t consider is the right for women to use birth control. The Supreme Court case that argued for the use of contraceptives was Griswold vs Connecticut. The court case was argued March 29th 30th 1965, but was not decided until June 7th 1965. The case was on the debate of whether or not the use of contraceptives should be legalized. Griswold, the Executive and Medical Director of Planned Parenthood League of Connecticut, was on the side arguing for the legalization of the use of contraceptives in a marriage. While the opposing side, the state of Connecticut statute, had forbidden the use of contraceptives since 1879. The Appellant, Estelle Griswold, had been counseling married couples at the Planned Parenthood League of Connecticut, located in New Haven. The counseling aimed to give them medical advice as well as information about different types of contraceptives, such as devices or drugs. Ms. Griswold would meet with married couples and discuss which form of contraception was the right fit for the patient. Due to the fact that these actions broke a Connecticut law that criminalized counseling about birth control, Griswold and one of her colleagues were both found guilty. Nine days after the Planned ... • 5. Indian Removal Of The Cherokee Indians They cried, they wept, they grew stronger. It was a story of hope, courage, and survival. This was the Trail of Tears. Many events led up to the Cherokee s removal. The Indian Removal caused the Cherokee indians to move west. A man named Major Ridge struck lots of bargains with the United States. This man, Major Ridge, was one of the native sons, born in 1771, that lived in the Cherokee territory. The Cherokee s lived in the Christians Eden because they believe their ancestors once lived in the same area. Throughout Major Ridge s youth years, the Shawnees, Choctaws, Chickasaws, the Creeks, and the United States endangered the Cherokees. Mr. Ridge and his family watched his town get burnt down by riflemen due to picking the wrong side during the American Revolution. The Cherokees watched their world change all around them. The Cherokee population dwindled to 12,000 in 1805, and lost over half their precious land. The United States wanted the Cherokees land, and for them to move west. The Americans offered a path for them to walk down. The Americans developed a policy called civilization which taught the Cherokees how to grow wheat; how to eat meals at regular set times instead of when ever they pleased, how to dress; how to speak English; how to pray in church at certain set times. The United States wanted all the tribes to be equivalent of their white neighbors. Thomas Jefferson states that they could be equal to the whites. John Ross was the future Cherokee chief; he grew ... Executive Summary Some would doubt that the formation of NAFTA was the American response to the European Single Act that formed the EU, which is made up of 27 countries. There is nothing to gain for both the blocs. However in some areas, peaceful co existence and some form of stricter ties between the EU and NAFTA would prove to be beneficial for both. The euro transformed Europe (Warner, 1998) from a jigsaw of costly protected markets into a vigorously competitive economic bloc, thereby enhancing international trade in the area . The NAFTA: A Regional agreement without institutions NAFTA represents a market of 379 million people with $6.5 trillion in production. The drive behind NAFTA was the establishment of a free trade area. Despite being a trilateral, it aimed at increasing international trade through the elimination of trade barriers. NAFTA could become more competitive in the world economy. The primary purpose of NAFTA is to assist the North American region in becoming more economically competitive with the rest of the world. It consists of US, Canada and Mexico. They set the rules regarding trade, investment and the provision of services. Despite the fact that free trade provides benefits, removing a trade barrier could cause damages to the shareholders and employees of the industry. The groups that get affected by foreign competition use politics to get protection from imports. E.g. According to the U.S. International Trade Commission, US gaining from removing trade restrictions on textiles and apparel would have been nearly $12 billion in 2002. He met an Indian boy who invited him to his village. Should he go? Matt should not have gone to the Indian village for these three reasons. They were not familiar people, it was not his usual trail, and he was not the expected champion. The first reason Matt should not have gone to the Indian village is that they were not familiar people. He did not understand their ways, their speech, or their dances. Persuasive Essay On Public Transportation Imagine yourself sitting in traffic, you are just in your car and the engine is just going and gas is being wasted and the fumes coming out which pollute our environment. You look out and see that it is still bumper to bumper on I 680 going to work, you are stressing out because you might be late for work. Then when you go back home, it s the same bumper to bumper traffic. All this time you could have just been with your family, helping your kids with their homework, or work on something for your job. Traffic is a major issue for 21st century cities, it is hurting our economy and our environment. One solution to this is a major issue is to invest in public transportation and encourage more people to ride public transportation. I am calling for the Federal Transportation Administration, state, and local governments to invest more in public transportation and spread the awareness of public transportation. Public transportation is beneficial to our communities by providing a solution to traffic and the havoc it causes on our lives. Public transportation can carry way more people per hour at full capacity than the typical single commuter car. Freeways with cars that carry on average 1.2 persons per car in medium traffic (around 30 mph) will only carry 1,080 people per hour. At max, a freeway can carry 1,800 cars per hour and that only results in 5,400 passengers per hour if there were 3 passengers per car. When archeologists and explorers rediscovered the site, they found that under the ruins, dust, and debris, Pompeii was fairly intact. Currently, control of air traffic in the United States is done by the federal aviation administration. The current President Donald Trump has proposed to privatize the exercise. Moving the task to a non profit organization will benefit America in various ways. Most importantly, it will modernize equipment s and training making the process more efficient. Additionally, it will ensure a more stable funding for the operation thus enhancing sufficient security. From the benefits of privatization of air traffic control in the USA, it is imperative that the legislators fully support the move. Discussion Privatization of air traffic control in the United States will significantly contribute to the modernization of the system. With the current management of air traffic control by the federal aviation (FAA) administration, it is impossible to modernize the system. The Collective Bargaining Process Of The Uaw This report represents the analysis of the collective bargaining process of the UAW (known as the CAW today) and GM (General Motors), presented in the film The Final Offer , 1985. Canada and the United States were part of the negotiations with General motors to reconcile a bargaining settlement in 1984. There was a compromise among labor and management that resulted to strike throughout months of the negotiation process. Craig as well as Hebdon and Brown have framed 3 hypotheses that will concentrate on the economic situation, the consequences of strike, in addition to, the community interests during bargaining and negotiations. The factors mentioned have been founded by categorizing the actors, diverse environments, outputs and the conversion mechanisms. Prior to analyzing the 3 hypotheses we should define the main actors that were a part of the negotiations. Management part included Rod Andrew (Canadian GM negotiator) and Roger B Smith (United States GM negotiator). Labor part included Owen Bieber (UAW agent), Buzz Hargrove and Bob Nickerson (UAWC deputies), as well as, Robert White (UAWC director). • 18. The Trials From World War II, South Africa No one possesses a magic wand which the architects of the new dispensation could wave and, Hey presto! things will be transformed overnight into a promised land flowing with milk and honey (Tutu 3). After the apartheid, South Africa needed a way to reconcile the wrong that had taken place throughout the country. Instead of modeling the Nuremberg Trials from World War II, South Africa implemented Truth and Reconciliation Commissions (TRC). This process guarantees pardon for any confess crime associated with a political objective (Ruden 2). Desmond Tutu, the archbishop of the Anglican Church in South Africa, praises and advocates the TRC; whereas, Sarah Ruden, an American living in South Africa, criticizes the RTC process based on two main objective points. Ruden sees the RTC process as not enforcing the laws as well as not giving victims enough reparations. While Ruden does present logistical evidence in her negative assessment of the TRC process, Tutu presents a more convincing assessment of the TRC process since he disputes using a trial system, while also explaining why economically and socially the TRC process was a successful solution to the post apartheid society in South Africa. Initially, Tutu begins his assessment by effectively dismantling the idea that putting perpetrators from the apartheid area on trial would have been a viable solution. • 19. Abols And Symbolism In Yann Martel s Life Of Pi Do bananas really float? This is a problem that two characters in Life of Pi struggled comprehending towards the end of the the story. Life of Pi by Yann Martel is about a boy named Pi Patel that ends up stranded on a lifeboat with a tiger, in the Pacific. In Life of Pi a major key thematic statement that Yann Martel makes during Pi s journey is that just because things may seem unrealistic, it doesn t mean that people cannot overcome or complete a task . Yann uses the island s setting, Pi s religious development, and the banana symbolism to deliver his thematic message. First unrealistic task that came about would be the island s setting, along the unusual setting in general. Not very often, if ever is it usual to hear about being stranded on an acidic island with a tiger, but as we can see from Yann s story it can happen. Yann sets Pi running into an acidic island made of no soil, but alge instead. As Pi is explaining to the investigators, they have a really hard time believing Pi. Pi had been through a lot during his journey, and Yann adds how Pi is hoarding food from being so traumatized. He s already had plenty and most he hasn t even eaten. In my life, I try to keep an optimistic attitude about the things I do because I know it will help lead me to more desirable ends. There have been many situations in which optimism has helped me through difficult times. Two areas in particular have provided me optimistic experiences: athletics and academics. First, optimism was very apparent while I was the co captain of my high school soccer team. The most challenging times for me were those when we would be losing and all the players would get angry with one another. This was especially apparent when one of the defenders on our team would make a mistake and allow the other team to score. Many players would then yell at him creating a negative attitude both toward themselves and the player. At that time, even though I was actually angry myself, I would both stop the other players from yelling and offer encouragement to the one who had made the mistake. For the most part, I would simply offer some advice by pointing out what he had done wrong and told him how to do it right the next time. Thereby, I would always keep a very positive attitude and told the players that they were doing well, but they just had to do it better next time. I know that the way I approached the problem helped maintain a positive attitude among all the players. This approach led to the team playing better and winning more. Another application in which an optimistic attitude has proven to be very beneficial has been in academics. Notably, there have been classes in which assignments were difficult for me and led to less than sufficient grades. Even though I was disappointed with my poor performance, I always stayed optimistic about bringing the grades back up. The one time that stood out among ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Uffizi, built by Alfonso Parigi and Bernardo Buontalenti in 1580 in a pre industrial Florence, was primarily built to house the offices of thirteen Florentine magistrates and guilds in one place , and from this position they would have had authority over the entire Republic of Florence. Whereas the Town Hall built from 1749 1754, during the industrial revolution, was designed by John Wood , but was largely rebuilt in the early 19th century, adding a dome and south facing portico to the existing building. It served a variety of functions, including the Mayor s Courtroom and a customs warehouse. Two brothers, Lyman and Henry, had very little in common other than their blood. One day they decided to catch a ride to Winnipeg. The car was introduced while these two were doing some sightseeing in the city. They spotted the red Oldsmobile convertible. Lyman, the storyteller, almost made the car a living thing when he said, There it was, parked, large as life. Really as if it were alive. The purchase of the vehicle brought these two together with a common interest: the car. Once the bond was formed, the brothers became inseparable, at least for a while. The boys spent the whole summer in the car. They explored new places; met new people and furthered the bond that the car had created. When they returned from their trip, Henry was sent to war. He left the car with Lyman. While Henry was gone, Lyman spent his time pampering and fixing the car. Lyman saw the car as an extension of Henry. This would be defined as an anticipatory search warrant, but the information provided by the confidential informant includes statements that are mostly vague: Dory was planning to sell Golden Starfish within an open ended date, she probably will deliver the stolen merchandise at some point, and she usually rents a room at the specific hotel named. None of this qualifies as reliable recent information as to criminal activity; as for proposed or future criminal activity, there are not sufficient facts here to indicate an event that would be sufficient to qualify as a triggering condition . According to the US Supreme Court s decision in U.S. v Grubbs (2006), what is required in an anticipatory search warrant is a triggering condition that would permit the execution of the warrant on the fair probability that contraband would be discovered if the search were executed no such condition appears to be included here, when the best that is offered for a triggering condition is that Dory has rented a room. The fact that the detective overheard mention of the Golden Starfish through the door is irrelevant to the establishment of probable cause for the warrant, though. 2. Marshall wanted equality for all citizens. In his life he strived for equality, especially for colored people and whites. I believe that Thurgood Marshall s greatest influence on the United States was him fighting for rights to not be segregated. Marshall fought to be able to be in the same room as whites along with other things being taken away from colored people. • 40. Summary Of Evil And Omnipotence By J. L. Mackie J. L. Mackie s Evil and Omnipotence criticizes the argument that God exists by showing that religious beliefs are positively irrational and that parts of the essential theological doctrine are inconsistent with one another. The problem of evil is one of the oldest problems in philosophy. The problem of evil is a logical problem for only the people who believe that there is a God who is both (1) omnipotent and (2) wholly good; yet (3) evil exists in the world. If God is wholly good and omnipotent, then how can there be a presence of evil in the world. Given the presence of evil, we must either conclude that God does not have the power to prevent the suffering that evil causes in which case God is not omnipotent or that God does not wish ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, these solutions are only temporary or almost adopted by the thinker because the thinker may not be consistent in their definitions and convert back to the old definitions. Therefore, these solutions are not true solutions, so we must find another way to solve the problem of evil. The next set of solutions are called fallacious solutions. A fallacious solution is a solution defined as an argument which rejects one of the propositions but then, implicitly reasserts it later in the argument to solve the problem. However, these fallacious solutions use an equivocation use of the words good and evil , which cause vagueness about how good and evil are opposed to one another. Mackie notes that these so called solutions may seem plausible at first, but, in fact, do not amount to a solution which rejects any principle that causes the contradiction. The first fallacious solution is that Good cannot exist without evil. The idea behind this solution is that evil is a necessary counterpart of good. Without evil, there could be no good in the world. Therefore, God could not have created the world without any evil in it because there would be no good. By saying that God cannot create good without creating evil at the same time contradicts premise one (that God is omnipotent) and premise five (that there are limits to what an omnipotent thing can do). Mackie rejects this ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

He went downstairs and drank a glass of water, not hungry enough for food. Arthur went outside into the chilly morning and started walking down the road. The road was lined with hundreds of huge alpine trees. A large flock of birds flew over Arthur s head in the sky. Arthur! Hey Arthur! Arthur turned his head to see his two friends James and Derek . It s a miracle! Diamonds! Arthur laughed and Derek jumped with joy. Holy shit! Derek said. My God! said Arthur. The three of them patted each other on the backs and shook hands, laughing. This is amazing! said Arthur. Unbelievable! said Derek. How on earth did these get here? James asked smiling. The diamonds were as big as golf balls, and some as small as grains of rice. Each one was clear and shimmering. This is the loot of a world class thief! Derek said and picked up the bag. Derek carried the bag on his shoulder, smiling proudly. And now its ours! Were rich! • 45. Why College Students Are Not Success In College Through the years in America, more students in each generation of college are being successful and finishing college. The latest data show that just 40 percent of Americans have finished an associate s degree or above, while an additional 22 percent attend some college but failed to graduate (Kelly, p.1). The 22 percent of college students who are failing to graduate, could be the college students who are not being successful in college. There are many reasons why students are not successful in college. Some main reasons students are not successful in college are typical because of drugs, stress, time management and procrastination, lack of desire and persistence and also poor self esteem and lack of self confidence. One reason why students are not successful in college is that of drugs. When students leave their homes to go off to college they meet new people, and experience overjoy of new freedom. When students notice that they are experiencing new freedom, they try new and different things. One of the main things students try that are new and different, depending on where the student is from, are drugs. Students use drugs for a lot of different reasons. Students use drugs to cope with stress, try to maintain course load, and they are influenced by peer pressure. In college, drugs are taken too far once students start to use them. Those who are enrolled in a full time college program are twice as likely to abuse drugs and alcohol than those who don t attend college (College students and Drug Abuse). The students who abuse drugs in college are the students that are normally not successful in college. The drugs take over the mind and students become unfocused and behind in school work, which leads to students failing out of college. Another reason why students are not successful in college is that of stress. Relationships, family issues and cost of tuition are stress related factors that are dealt with a college student. The America Institute of the street website says, a 2008 mental health study by the Associated Press and mtvU eight in 10 college students say they have experienced stress in their daily lives over the past three months (Stress in College Students p. 1). • 48. The Scale Of Global Climate Disruption Essay The scale of global climate disruption is too great to conquer with only statements of commitment and generalized solutions, especially given that many nationally determined contributions (NDCs) are not enough to limit warming to 2 degrees. Given the massive scope of the changing climate system, addressing and solving the causes can be accomplished and observed more effectively on a smaller scale, such as provided by cities, businesses, and institutions of higher learning, which compose an impactful proportion of the larger body (state or nation). The only way to effectively integrate sustainable solutions broadly is to examine small scale successful measures in living laboratories, and to then implement those more widely and efficiently. This allows greater regions to tailor and adapt solutions to fit into their community. There needs to be integration on all levels of society and among the various stakeholders in order to have any hope of restricting warming to 1.5 2 degrees Celsius, therefor limiting the disastrous potential impacts. This report will detail and inventory some of the most ambitious climate action plans and applied policies from a selection of the most influential and innovative cities, businesses, and universities in the world.
