Peristalsis And Involuntary Muscle Contractions
The Alimentary Canal is a system which contains different sections and organs that work together to
digest substances. Food substances pass through the alimentary canal which starts at the mouth and
eventually ends up at the anus. Ingestion is the consumption of a substance through the mouth e.g.
eating or drinking. The mouth increases surface area for chemical digestion as Salivary glands
produce Saliva which contains amylase to breakdown starch. Saliva also contains mineral salts to keep
PH constant and Mucin to make food slimy and easier to pass down the oesophagus. Peristalsis is the
movement of food by coordinated involuntary muscle contractions. Peristalsis is used in the
oesophagus, stomach, and intestines to transport food.

Black Boy Character Analysis
Everybody, at one moment or another during their childhood, has wished to gain the responsibilities of
an adult. However, most kids are held back by the childish part of themselves. They have to go
through a coming of age cycle, that once completed, has matured them and made them evolve from
their old self. In Richard Wright s autobiography Black Boy, we follow a young boy named Richard
through his own journey to become a man, as we see him struggle and overcome obstacles. The author
uses the motifs of hunger, discrimination, and religion to represent his quest and to emphasize on all
the challenges life throws at him. Richard s life is horribly scarred by the haunting ghost of hunger.
During his stay at West Helena, once Aunt Maggie has left with his new uncle, Richard and his family
are left with no money to buy food. A few weeks after his aunt s departure, hunger [haunts him] so ...

After the boy s visit to try and convince Richard to become religious, his family [begs him] so
continuously to come to God that it becomes impossible for him to ignore them without wounding
them. He desperately tries to think of some way to say no without making them hate him (Wright
116). Religion represents the conflict that flares in his family. He is different from them, and he wants
to make them to understand that without hurting them. When Ella is caught reading a book to Richard,
his grandmother gets furious and tells Richard that books are the Devil s work [...], [and that he is]
going to burn in hell (Wright, 39). For the first time in his life, Richard has tasted what was life to
him, and is determined to get away from his family s religious beliefs and get himself the life he
wants. He realizes that they can t understand what he is feeling. In this book, religion is used as a way
to represent the tension in his family, and is used to make Richard gain independence from his

The History and Role of Six Sigma and Lean in the...
The human race has made leaps and bounds in manufacturing of goods needed not only to survive, but
to make our lives easier and more efficient. From the earliest recorded history, man has made the tools
he needed to survive or gain a completive advantage. In the not too distant past, 100 years or so, we
had skilled craftsman who had specific skills and talents. In a small town you would have a
blacksmith, a tailor, a farmer, etc. Each of these people learned their skills through years of
apprenticeships, and the items they made were unique. Their processes often took months or even
years to complete. Since these times we as a society have progressed from craftsmanship to assembly
lines. Even now we have robotic manufacturing, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The term Six Sigma was coined by Bill Smith in 1986, while at Motorola. It was coined as a target for
defect free product manufacturing. The term was derived from the idea that process capability can be
described by product or service deviation from specification. ( Six Sigma Basics ). Although this
theory turned in to what we now know as Six Sigma, the origins of statistical process control can be
traced to Walther Shewart and Edward Deming. Walter Shewart was an engineer, physicist and
statistician. He theorized that there are two causes of variation which will lead to decreased product
quality. These two causes are the assignable cause, (special cause variation) and chance cause
(common cause variation). Assignable Cause variation is an unpredictable, unanticipated problem
within the manufacturing system. Chance Cause variation is a well known error or cause that can
effect a manufacturing process. Shewart created control charts, focusing on bringing a manufacturing
process under control. This would only leave chance cause variation, and keeping this in control a
company and predict and manage their processes cost effectively and economically (Akpose).

George Washington s Influence On American History
Historyi is defined as the study of past events, particularly in human affairs. With each passing day,
history is being made and added on. Sites such as the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island has an
important significance within American history. While these sites are well known to a majority of the
U.S. population, many other sites are overlooked. These are sites that we pass every day without even
realizing its significance within American history. The Morris Jumel Mansion or Mount Morris is a
historical site that fits this description, it is located on 65 Jumel Terrace at 160th St in Manhattan, New
York City and one of these oldest house in the borough of Manhattan. It is also a major surviving

Essay on Cox s Container Company (CCC)
In the modern constant changes business environment, company needs to change constantly to remain
competitive in the market. If not, the company will be facing survival risk. There are no mercy and

rectify the problems. He has delegated the task to Erica Wilson to review CCC s operations and

The Principle Of Affinity Chromatography
The objective of this lab was to learn the principle of affinity chromatography by isolating a
carbohydrate binding protein from an extract of jack bean meal.
The protein that was used for this lab came from jack bean meal, and it is identified as Concanavalin
A, or Con A. This is a lectin protein that has the ability to bind with glucose, but it is not a
glycoprotein. Furthermore, the monomeric molecular weight of this protein is 25,5001. Concanavalin
A also exists as a dimer and a tetramer, and this depends upon the pH of this substance. Finally, Con A
requires a transition metal ion such as manganese as well as calcium ions for binding purposes.
1. Begin by inserting a cheesecloth into a syringe and pressing the cheesecloth to the very bottom of
the column.
2. Pour 10 ml of the affinity gel into the column. Allow a few minutes for the solution to harden and
transform into a gel like consistency.
3. Fill the rest of the column with NaCl, and do so by pouring the solution along the interior side of
the column. This allows the gel to become moist.
4. Next, gather 0.5 ml of the protein extract and save this portion in a separate container. This will be
used for the preparation of the membrane.
5. Load the remaining protein mix into the column, and this will begin to bind within the column.
Once the solution has settled, fill the column with NaCl a total of four times; as the wash is flowing
through, collect and label the protein solution in fractions, and save for the

Flat Organization Model Essay
Every organization needs a model to which they can structure their companny on, it is how they
structure their organization that will determnine the relationship among the workers and the
management. As for the nursing structure of the organization model it is imperative that the model is
operational and resouresful in that the function of the organization can reach its common goal and
mission. Since no company can function on it s own it is imperative for the company to ensure
commitment and integrety. Therfore, no matter which model an organiztion uses there will be pros and
cons to each side. When looking at the flat organization model, for example, there are several pros to

Although we are addressing the needs of the patient and we have compasion in our job, the idea of
nursing shortages, and understaffing is a big issue among the nurses. In order to appropiately meet the
needs of our clients and improve their health, the organiztion has to implement some type of way to
get the patient ratios to nurses to a safe level, decrease the fatigue of the nurses, thus decreasing the
turnover (Huber, 2014). In addition, I feel that caring for the staff is lacking in the organiztion and
with the lack of caring comes the lack of euthisam to do the job you were hired to do. In order to
correct this, companies need to first of all, evaluate why the staff feels like the managers or facility are
uncaring. We at OhioHealth have yearly evaluation of the company in which we can annominsly state
our concerns, our feelings of our manager, staff, and insurance just to name a few. Consequently, the

According to Lee, Johnson, amp; Joyce (2008), Capital budgets assist in deciding how much of each
type of investment is necessary, and assist in evaluating available revenues (including loans) to
finance those investments.
States and most local governments do not use current revenues to pay for their capital projects. For
example, the construction of prisons, school building, or public university. These projects are usually
financed from bond revenues. The purchasers of the bond lend the funds to the states that are
necessary to finance the project. States, in turn, pledge to pay the bondholders the principal of the loan
plus a stipulated rate of return according to Gosling (2002). According to Lee, Johnson, amp; Joyce
(2008), In the United States, although some local governments borrow from banks for temporary
operating funds, the main source of debt finance is the issuance of bonds.
Determining Debt Capacity

Koreans Have A Rich Culture

Korean Language Honorifics
Koreans have a rich culture as well as other countries in the world from their festivals, foods,
technology and much more. Among the most prominent Korean culture is their language honorific or
polite system. You include specific elements in the language depending on who you speak to or what
setting you are in.
If you plan to learn the Korean language or are currently learning the language, you ll find that
applying honorifics is one of the more difficult things or probably a complicated aspect to learn.
However, it is imperative that you learn to implement honorifics in your speech because if not, you
will be deemed really rude by Koreans.
Let s start off with the most common instance when you should use honorific language. First, Koreans
value age. The older you are the more you are respected because of your seniority. So the first thing
you have to keep in mind is when speaking to a much older person, apply honorifics in your speech.
Korean speech is in the Subject/Object/Verb format as opposed to Subject/Verb/Object for English. To
use honorific speech, you must add a yo or seyo at the end of your sentences. seyo which is the
combination of shi + oyo is much more respectful. You usually use these when speaking in an
informal setting such as when you meet older acquaintances that you re not too close with or with a
senior like a teacher or a mentor. The same goes when you meet a friend of a friend.
As for formal conversations

An Analysis of Rumi s Poem Unmarked Boxes Essays
An Analysis of Unmarked Boxes
In the poem, Unmarked Boxes, writer Jalâl al Din Mohammad Rumi uses metaphors and sound
techniques to share wisdom with his readers about accepting one s inability to change fate and about
the interconnectedness of the world. Rumi begins with a sentence comprised of two, short but striking
words: Don t grieve (1). By saying this, he warns his readers not to attempt to change that which is
unchangeable. He also tells his readers to not worry about this, implying that all things happen for a
reason. Rumi writes, Anything you lose comes round/ in another form (1 2). He then uses various
literary techniques, all having to do with nature, to reiterate his point. In line two, Rumi writes about

He chooses to have these particular phrases stand out in order to help show his belief that God s joy is
everywhere, that through Him, everything is connected. Rumi uses repetition again in lines seven
through nine, starting each line with the word: Now. Rumi writes, Now it looks like a plate of rice and
fish,/ Now a cliff covered with vines,/ Now a horse being saddled (7 9). His use of repetition calls
attention to these lines. By writing these lines with similar structure, Rumi displays that they are all
the same and interconnected. In this poem, Rumi also uses imagery and personification. He writes: It
hides within these (10). By personifying It which is referring to God s love Rumi paints a picture in
his reader s minds. He then writes: Part of the self leaves the body when we sleep/and changes shape
(12 13). This, while ambiguous, allows the reader to picture this image how they chose to see it. He
continues to use imagery as a tool to capture the reader. He writes, Last night/ I was a cypress tree, a
small bed of tulips,/ a field of grapevines (12 14). This paints a clear and vivid picture in the reader s
mind. Continuing, he writes, Then the phantasm goes away./ You re back in the room (14 15). In this,
lines twelve through fifteen, he once again explains that everything is connected, both through God s
love and through nature. Then, interjected into the poem, Rumi

Immigrants And Immigration
Australia is a country with a diverse culture, and immigrants are an important part of Australian
population. Because Australia is underpopulated due to a low birth rate, negative population growth
will have adverse long term effects on the economy as the population ages and the labor market
becomes less competitive. Because of these reasons the Australian government has a policy which
encourages immigration. Immigrants might affect Australia in different ways such as economic and
environment. Immigrants have significant influence for Australian economic in positive ways, for
example economic growth, population growth and solve the aging problem. There is a simple
relationship between immigration and economic growth. More people joining the production cause the
economy keeps growing. The more population makes economic growth because more people buy
more products. The increase in migration helps GDP growth and keeping Australian economic strong.
And due to amount of the highly educated migrants ,Australian has significant change of technology.
For example in the IT industry, medical and architect. On the other hand Australia s population is
ageing quite rapidly. The number of Australians aging more than 60 will double after 2050, as reported
by projection of the 2015 IGR. (Carvalho, 2015). In this situation government has to increase the
welfare budget. However, huge number of migrants could change the structure of population ,because

Rhetoric In The Japanese
While it is obvious rhetorical activities exist in Japan, the Japanese do not share many of the
assumptions about language and communication that native English speaking cultures often hold true.
In fact, a homologous term for rhetoric does not even seem to exist in the Japanese language. Further
compounding the issue is the fact that ancient Japanese theoretical works of philosophy essentially do
not exist, at least not in the same explicit manner of Aristotelian like works. Rather, Japanese literature
tends to be more that of didactic, poetic and aesthetic characteristics. If we are to hold to the belief that
the discipline of rhetoric is an extension of philosophy, it would seem to be a perplexing if not a futile

Guns Germs And Steel Essay
Guns, Germs and Steel Essay In 1920 American women were allowed to vote. While in Papa New
Guinea people were trying to find a more efficient way of farming. This shows just how unequal our
world is. So what causes inequality? The cause of inequality is due to geography. Farming and
domesticated animals is where the problem started. After domesticated animals, came steel leading to
the exposure of germs. For a civilization to succeed it needs a steady source of crops, domesticated
animals, production of steel, and early exposure to germs. A huge factor that affects a civilization s
development is what can be grown in your region. An ideal food supply would be high in protein,
have a surplus of calories, and long term storage. The Fertile Crescent had a spectacular food source;
they had wheat which supplied high protein, surplus of calories, and had long term storage. Smaller

Concept And Measurement Of Poverty
2.0: Introduction:
This part reviews some of the available literature on concepts, theories and previous research findings
pertaining to the research problem so as to establish the theoretical and empirical base of the study.
Literature review is used by the researcher to bring the reader update with current literature on a topic
and forms the base for another goal, such as future research that may be needed in the area. It is also
used to provide solid background information under the study. The literature reviews aims at finding
the gap between what other authors have explained theoretically and empirically and what has not
been explained. The knowledge gap needs to be established and fitted by the researcher.
2.1: Concept and Measurement of poverty
2.1.1: Definition of poverty
Poverty of an individual or household is defined as a state of having an income or consumption
expenditure which is below a certain level/standard known as the poverty line (Bigsten ; Abebe,
2003). Townsend (1985) defined poverty as not only a failure to meet minimum nutrition levels but
also as a failure to keep with a standard of living prevailing in the society. Thus according to
Townsend a household is considered as being poor if and only if its standard of living is below that of
the society. Poverty on the other hand can be observed as the condition of a household being unable to
meet basic needs including food, shelter, education etc. (World Bank, 1996).
According to the economist a household

out new technologies that are on the market. They will usually own more than one smart phone, an
example would be an Iphone, Blackberry or even a Samsung. They don t just stop at smart phones it
also overlaps onto gaming consoles like the Play Station, Nintendo and Xbox. There is the use of
Ipads and life pads in the lives of the Millennial generation, this is because they there is constant
movement and an internet connection is vital. In these devices they can move around on different
interfaces, e.g. being on your smart phone and checking your emails while you chat on BBM and
Facebook multi tasking on all their various social networks. According to Pew Social Trends 2010
Millennials technological exceptionalism is chronicled throughout the survey. It s not just their
gadgets it s the way they ve fused their social lives into them. Expectations of the millennial
generation The attitudes and behaviours of the millennial generation is that they are much more

Permian and Cretaceous Mass Extinctions Essay
Assess the different hypotheses put forward for the mass extinctions at the end of the Permian and

A mass extinction is an event in which at least 25 75% of species in the global environment are

confined to a specific zone. Five mass extinctions have occurred throughout time, two of the most
well known of these are the Permian and Cretaceous extinction events.
There are several hypotheses that are used to explain the causes of mass extinctions. Climate change,
the warming or cooling of global environments over a short period of time, can lead to other
occurrences. Shifts in climate can cause extinction by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A crater, the Bedout crater, in Australia has been discovered. A bolide impact would have lead to mass
death of marine and terrestrial organisms. The force of the impact could have released methane from
stored organic matter and large earthquakes. These earthquakes would have triggered the volcanism in
the Siberian traps, leading to the release of large amounts of CO2 and sulfur dioxide. These gases
combined with methane previously released would have created a noxious atmosphere, combined with
climate change that killed a large scale of life.
It is most likely that a simultaneous occurrence of the different global environmental changes was
responsible for ending the Permian period, and the lives of 96% of species. Each environmental issue
is a major geological event, and amplified the other events, leading to catastrophic environmental
situation, in which barely any life could survive.
The Cretaceous Tertiary mass extinction, commonly referred to as the KT extinction, occurred 65
million years ago. As the most recant extinction event it is more easily studied as more evidence has
been preserved than for the earlier extinctions. This extinction is the most commonly known, as it is
the extinction of the dinosaurs, but the smallest scale mass extinction with only 76% of species dying

The conflict, which lasted approximately eight months was also the first major military victory of the

For example, Amazon boosted its profits by moving credit card offers from its home page to the
shopping cart page. Such examples that utilized web testing techniques clearly espouses the idea that
tiny changes could have a big impact. In a managerial level, experiments can help managers to
optimize investment based on the potential improvement suggested by these tests. For instance,
experiments in the Microsoft Company on its Bing search engine showed that every 100 millisecond
difference in performance had a 0.6% impact on revenue. With Bing s yearly revenue surpassing $3
billion, a 100 millisecond speedup is worth $18 million in annual incremental revenue. Results
advocate that investing on a project to improve the Bing s response time can generate billions of
dollars for the company. (Kohavi Thomke, 2017)
A/B testing is extremely goal oriented. Before launching an A/B test, we must first decide on the

While my mom came to visit me, she would notice how well the nurses would care for me. Though
their jobs were tough, the nurses would often carry me while I was crying and would often talk me to
sleep, sometimes singing lullabies. IV. This situation has made me grateful to be alive since I was able
to be brought back to health due to these wonderful neonatal nurses who helped me recover, but not
many newborn babies are fortunate enough to survive just like me as newborn babies have died and
suffered due to the lack of supervision that neonatal nurses are incapable of providing. V. Today I will
inform you about the everyday obligations of neonatal nurses, the explanations of deficiency of staff
and the impacts a sufficient number of neonatal nurses can cause in a baby s life. Let s begin by
explaining what neonatal nurses are. Body I. Neonatal nurses are registered nurses who are
responsible to care for newborns who are critically ill or premature. (Slide 1: Neonatal nurses with
babies [Photos]). Knowing what a neonatal nurse does for our newborn children will help us
understand what exactly they do to them while they are not with us in the hospital room. A. The duties
of a neonatal nurse comprise of caring for newborns with a variety of problems such as premature

Displaying Self Harm In Dostoyevsky s Notes From The...
Displaying self harm is the men s way to prove their toughness, another aspect society portrays men to

sick, but does nothing about it. Instead, he complains and ignores his sickness. However, I know
nothing at all about my disease. and do not know for certain what ails me. I don t consult a doctor for
it, and never have (Dostoyevsky 91). Later on the Underground Man described his reluctance to seek

As one attempts to have a closer and more personal relationship, the other pulls back. Estragon fears
becoming too intimate with Vladimir because he wants to keep his masculinity. The chasm between
Vladimir and Estragon continued to grow throughout the play. Within Fight Club, the characters show
love but in a sense of ownership in order to hold their masculine title. They also are afraid to love in
hopes of becoming vulnerable. Palahniuk wrote, This isn t about love in caring. This is about property
as in ownership (Palahniuk 14). This view of love is not positive, as it is used to control others.
However, there is irony within this because none of the characters within the novel want to be
controlled. Not falling in love can also serve as a reason to uphold masculinity. The readers could tell
that the narrator was head over heels for Marla Singer, one of the few female characters in the novel,
but he refuses to approach it. He said, I tell Tyler, Marla Singer doesn t need a lover, she needs a care
worker. Tyler says, Don t call this love (Palahniuk 62). The narrator and Tyler agree with each other
that they are most certainly not in love with Marla, but the readers know he is. Another example is
present when the narrator believed he liked Marla but claimed he did not love her. It s not love or
anything . . . But I think I like you, too (Palahniuk 205). In the world of Fight Club, liking

Cadbury Shweppes Company Case Study
Trust is defined as the willingness to be vulnerable to a trustee based on positive expectations about
the trustees actions and intentions (Colquitt p. 205). Trust is one of the biggest aspects in the
organizational realm. In order to instill proper work ethics, you must trust that your employer is
instilling the correct values, and vice versa, you must trust that your employees will carry out those
work ethics when not being monitored closely, or in other words Integrity, defined as the perception
that the authorities adhere to a set of values and principles that the trustor finds acceptable (Colquitt P.
209). Without trust, a company cannot stand strong. The Cadbury Schweppes Company has
exemplified great leadership in the trust category, as they have been a forerunning company for nearly
fifty years. The Cadbury Schweppes Company is categorized into two main areas, confectionery and
beverages. Even more popularly known for Cadbury eggs, and Schweppes ginger ale. To be admired
as a great company to work for and one that is socially responsible to its communities and consumers
across the globe (Cadbury Schweppes), was a statement made by the Cadbury Schweppes Company
under their core purposes . This goal clearly states Cadbury Schweppes responsibilities and recognizes
that what it does as a business impacts on communities and the lives of consumers (Cadbury

Treatment From Expert Opinions And Case Reports
TREATMENT LEVEL OF EVIDENCE 5 Most of the information we have about PDAP treatment
comes from expert opinions and case reports. Few authors proposed treatment flow charts, based on
the moderate evidence that PDAP represents a neuropathic pain condition. However, these treatment
approaches have never been tested through an experimental study in a PDAP population. Baad Hansen
et al., in a literature review published in 2008, proposed the following stepped treatment: start with
patient education about their condition as it is necessary to avoid further unnecessary treatments. Treat
initially with topical medications (authors suggest capsaicin or lidocaine) because of limited side
effects and safer profile. If pain does not resolve, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
From our clinical expertise, we discourage the use of opioids, for the potential risk of opioid induced
hyperalgesia (64), dependency and possible addiction (65). Nixdorf et al., suggest to follow the NICE
guidelines (National Institute of Health Care and Excellence) for the treatment of peripheral
neuropathic pain: oral medications, topical when practical and avoid irreversible treatments that
involve local injury (29). We also found treatment suggestions that still need to be tested in PDAP
patients to reach a higher level of evidence. Several authors agree that it is necessary to avoid
unnecessary treatments as they do not have positive outcomes and they may even worsen the pain (38)
(44) (58). Invasive treatments create higher stress to an already dysfunctional nervous system and this
has been observed to increase pain in PDAP patients (66). Ram et al., report that in their clinical
practice they test patients for local anesthetic response in order to decide for a more central or
peripheral therapy (3). This approach can be promising and it is supported by evidence in the literature
of different levels of central and peripheral sensitization in different patients (34) (37). However, it
needs to be tested before arguing its effectiveness. Baad Hansen et al., point out that the treatment
strategy should be flexible, taking into account

Curiosity Can Be A Necessary Evil
Curiosity can be a necessary evil. Certainly, being inquisitive leads to the accumulation of knowledge,
which brings about progression and improvement, but it has its drawbacks. This is a very important
theme in the story Frankenstein by Mary Shelly. In the story, Frankenstein went in pursuit of the elixir
of life (Shelly Web). He wanted to find a way to give and restore life (Shelly Web). Frankenstein did
discover a way to perform such unhallowed arts, but ultimately it led to his ruin (Shelly Web). He lost

The earliest form of natural science was alchemy. The most common first thought when alchemy is
mentioned is turning elementary metals into gold. However, there is much more to it than that. Near
the time of 100 AD is when alchemy first began in the western hemisphere, specifically Alexandria,
Egypt, the joint of Greek and eastern cultures (Encyclopedia Americana Vol. 1: 510). One of the most
popular theories that lay the foundation for alchemy was that of Aristotle, written about the 4th
century BC (510). That is the theory that heat, cold, moisture, and dryness are the base characteristics
of all matter, and they combine to create the four elements: fire, water, earth, and air (510).
Frankenstein more than certainly incorporated these ideas in his chemistry experiments. Although at
first he left the medieval books alone and followed the new ideas of the modern scientists of the time,
after professor M. Waldman presented him with an open mind, he reverted to the primitive ideas of
chemistry (Shelley Web).
Of course, today most ideas from this branch of science are rejected, such as translating metals to
gold. But it was the earliest form of the branch of science known as natural science, which
Frankenstein studied at the university Ingolstadt (Shelly Web). The essence of the natural sciences
surrounds the natural, physical world and the occurrences thereof (Merriam Webster). It is no surprise
that this was the basis of Frankenstein s studies. From a very

Sinterklaas Research Paper
Kerstmis (Dutch word meaning Christmas) was always the ultimate magical and extraordinary time of
all for Ellen and I. Our parents did everything within their means to make the season merry and
magical. The American name of Santa Claus, derived from the European name of Sinterklaas; is
portrayed as an older, more serious historical character. Dutch tradition says that Sinterklaas lives in
Spain and that on the second Saturday of November he begins his journey to the Netherlands with
several assistants; each one known as Zwarte Piet (literal translation is Black Pete). Sinterklaas, with
his long white beard, dressed in a red robe, wearing a Bishop s hat and carrying a staff, leads a
procession riding a white horse through the villages where the children are forewarned that Zwarte

The Weaknesses Within The Prosecution
The Weaknesses Within the Prosecution: After the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001, the United

preemptive war, is an offensive launched against any assumed threat that has yet to materialize. The
objective is to neutralize the threat before it comes to fruition; in other words, the threat must be
subdued before another terrorist attack occurs on U.S. soil. In his speech at West Point Military
Academy, former president George W. Bush explained the need for preemptive war:

administration was drafting a series of memorandanow known as the Torture Memos. These
documents addressed the justification of torture that ultimately allowed for enhanced interrogation to

who felt information gathering analysis needed to be strengthened. John Yoo, the Deputy Assistant
U.S. Attorney General in the Office of Legal Counsel and the Department of Justice during the George
W. Bush Aadministration, clearly emphasized in one of the first memos that U.S. officials should not

Tensions between the French and English speaking Canadians.
Tensions between the French and English speaking Canadians has been a topic issue for quite some
time now. Throughout the years it has been questioned as to wether or not the French and English
speaking Canadians have the potential ability to be together as a nation. Various votes have been held
in order to try and establish what the people of Canada feel about this situation. However, the history
of the English and French speaking Canadians prove that Canada is an impossible nation. Foreign
Policies, such as the Naval Services Bill, the Boer War and Conscription all contribute to why Canada
is an impossible nation. Political Issues involving the Constitution Act, 1982, the Referendum Act

The unilateral partition of the constitution and the refusal of other provinces to back Quebec further
alienated French Canadians. Consequently, this endured the tensions
between the nation to rise even higher than they already were because it had been stated that many
provinces didn t agree with the French Canadians and that made them subsequently bitter. Many agree
that it is getting to the point that Quebec should separate from Canada. One in three Canadians support
this statement. That is where the Referendum Act Two, 1995, takes a role in the dispute over French
and English speaking Canadians. After voting on it, the English speaking Canadians prepare to keep
Quebec in Canada. Yet, 32% said that they d rather see Quebec leave. When asked how they d vote if
another referendum took place with the same question, 49% of the people voted yes, and 42% of the
people voted no. While another referendum on secession is not the wish of the people of Canada or
some of the people in Quebec, the stated intention is to get Quebec independence. The Clarity Act was
the PQ s plans to hold another referendum. They want to create a winning conditions and that is what
they intend to do. The government of Canada has the right and obligation to indicate what, in a
referendum on secession, it would consider to be a clear majority on a clear question. In conclusion it
is proved that due to the Constitution Act,

Introduction
While marsupial species can be found in both North and South America, neither can compare to the
marsupial diversity of the isolated continent of Australia. With 180 Australian marsupial species, as
opposed to 78 South American and 1 North American species, the ecological niches filled by
marsupials in Australia are many and varied due to the lack of native eutherian mammals on the
continent. Australian marsupials evolved special adaptations to survive in the harsh and distinctive
environment found on the continent. The major area of marsupial biology that distinguishes them from
all other eutherian mammals is their mode of reproduction. However, it can be said that there are
many other areas in which unique differences can be seen between marsupials and eutherian
mammals; one such area of adaptation is in the anatomy and physiology of digestion, which
distinguishes them from many other similar animals worldwide. This paper will give a brief overview
of the evolution and history of marsupials in Australia, and then compare the digestive systems
adaptations of placental ruminants and herbivorous marsupials, with an emphasis on the foregut
fermenters, kangaroos and wallabies.
Evolution of Herbivorous Marsupials and Ruminants
The first mammals to evolve from reptiles were small, carnivorous and were similar to extant
monotremes. It is generally accepted that the first marsupials split from these early monotremes

Dbq Essay On Manifest Destiny
Manifest Destiny is a term used for the attitude that was prevalent during the 19th century. It was the
idea that Americans were destined by God to govern the American continent. There were many
country splitting issues caused by Manifest Destiny. One of the major consequences of Manifest
Destiny was the removal of Native Americans. This meant that Native American land would be
expanded on, the government officials of the United States then also had tensions between all of their
bordering states and countries, such as Mexico. Another effect of Manifest Destiny includes the
expansion of land. Not only that but scholars also argue that Manifest Destiny ultimately resulted in
the civil war.

Despite the push to move westward, it was not till the end the of the War of 1812 that the westward
movement became a significant outpour of people across the continent. For the grand spirit Manifest
Destiny created, it also created a darker side of American History. While the positive side of Manifest
Destiny was a growth of enthusiasm and energy for pushing West to extend the land, the negative side
was the belief that the white man had the right to destroy anything and anyone. God has not been
preparing the English speaking and Tectonic peoples for a thousand years for nothing but vain and idle
self admiration (Ryser) Tracing the path of Manifest Destiny across the west would highlight mass
destruction of tribal organizations, confinement of Indians to reservations, and full blown genocide.

The History Of Nuclear Fission
On August 6, 1945, the United States dropped an Atomic Bomb over the City of Hiroshima in Japan,
decimating the city, and killing around 140,000 people within months of the explosion. 3 days later,
the US dropped a second bomb over the city of Nagasaki in Japan, killing roughly 80,000 people. The
second World War had been going on for 7 years, the Germans had surrendered but the Japanese had
yet to do so. So the United States created and atomic bomb in a program called the Manhattan project
in order to force the Japanese to surrender. Since the US creation of the atomic bombs, there has been
a huge global advancement in energy, warfare medicine and technology, including the race for nuclear
weapons.

Although the atomic bomb ravaged the environment around where it was detonated and would
continue to have an impact on the wildlife for many decades to come, it was an extreme advantage in
the game of war. With the development of the atomic bomb, the US was able to kill a larger area of
people then with normal TNT and missile strikes, and from the areas not directly affected from the
blast it would still devastate civilizations in the form of cancer, which was a result of the immense
radiation emitted from the reaction. It forced the opposing sides to change their military strategies, and
it cause this fear in all the country s that they might be the ones whose country get a bomb dropped on
next. There was a feeling of uneasiness and fear in the US s enemies (Bombing of Hiroshima and
Nagasaki, 2009). Because of the creation of the atomic bomb, countries were now able to harm their
opponents without endangering the lives of their own soldiers. In 1955 the US created the first nuclear
submarine (USS Nautilus) which was a submarine that could function without refueling through the
use of nuclear energy and nuclear reactors (Bamburg, n.d.). The atomic bomb served its purpose of
forcing the Japanese to surrender, and because of that many people can justify that the death of
thousands of people was worth the ending

Comparing The Crucible, And Les Miserables
Today, children are taught to forgive others and give second chances. But this was not always the case.
Historically, once someone had committed a crime they were thought of as dishonorable people and it
was made known to others that they had committed a sin. This is seen in many literary works
including The Scarlet Letter, The Crucible, and Les Miserables. Les Miserables, originally written by
Victor Hugo, exemplifies this prejudice. Throughout the story, the characters can not escape the
prejudice related to one mistake, or perceived mistake. In the movie version directed by Bille August,
Jean Valjean and Fantine are unable to receive forgiveness and move on with their lives. When Jean
Valjean is released from prison, he understands the bias he is going to face in the real world.

job. Needing money to support herself and Cosette, she resorts to prostitution. When attacked, Javert
arrests her and tells Valjean and Fantine that she is in the wrong. Javert believes that Fantine is always
going to be a prostitute and should be put in prison.
Throughout the movie Les Miserables directed by Bille August, Paris is shown as an unforgiving
society in the late 1700 s and early 1800 s. Once a person has done something wrong, they will never
be trustworthy citizens, or even a part of society. The cruel nature of society is on display by the
prejudice shown by Javert to both Fantine and Jean

Maria Mitchell Essay

this courageous woman, we can see clearly how she set an example for her gender in the Nineteenth
century.
Women have always been at the forefronts of science, even though they have not always taken the

She had memorized the sky and was sure of her observation. (Gromley p.55) This was the great
discovery that her constant vigilance brought into the open, as she saw a comet of unknown origin. It
occurred to her that this might be a comet. Maria recorded the presumed comet s coordinates. The next
night the star moved again. This time she was sure it was a comet. Her father wrote to Professor
William Bond at the Harvard University observatory about Maria s discovery. Professor Bond
submitted Maria s name to the king of Denmark who had offered a gold medal to a person who
discovers a comet seen only through a telescope. Another person, Father Francesco de Vico of Rome
discovered the same comet two days later (Mitchell p.105) than Maria Mitchell and the decision was
made to award him the prize before news of Maria s earlier discovery arrived in Europe. After some
negotiations Maria Mitchell was awarded the medal for this discovery a year later. The comet was
named Miss Mitchell s Comet.
She continued working as a librarian, but now she was also receiving letters of congratulations from
scientists and tourists were coming to take a look at the woman astronomer. In 1848 the American
Academy of Arts and Sciences voted her the first woman member. The Association for the

  • 2. Peristalsis And Involuntary Muscle Contractions The Alimentary Canal is a system which contains different sections and organs that work together to digest substances. Food substances pass through the alimentary canal which starts at the mouth and eventually ends up at the anus. Ingestion is the consumption of a substance through the mouth e.g. eating or drinking. The mouth increases surface area for chemical digestion as Salivary glands produce Saliva which contains amylase to breakdown starch. Saliva also contains mineral salts to keep PH constant and Mucin to make food slimy and easier to pass down the oesophagus. • 3. Black Boy Character Analysis Everybody, at one moment or another during their childhood, has wished to gain the responsibilities of an adult. However, most kids are held back by the childish part of themselves. They have to go through a coming of age cycle, that once completed, has matured them and made them evolve from their old self. In Richard Wright s autobiography Black Boy, we follow a young boy named Richard through his own journey to become a man, as we see him struggle and overcome obstacles. The author uses the motifs of hunger, discrimination, and religion to represent his quest and to emphasize on all the challenges life throws at him. Richard s life is horribly scarred by the haunting ghost of hunger. During his stay at West Helena, once Aunt Maggie has left with his new uncle, Richard and his family are left with no money to buy food. A few weeks after his aunt s departure, hunger [haunts him] so ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After the boy s visit to try and convince Richard to become religious, his family [begs him] so continuously to come to God that it becomes impossible for him to ignore them without wounding them. He desperately tries to think of some way to say no without making them hate him (Wright 116). Religion represents the conflict that flares in his family. He is different from them, and he wants to make them to understand that without hurting them. When Ella is caught reading a book to Richard, his grandmother gets furious and tells Richard that books are the Devil s work [...], [and that he is] going to burn in hell (Wright, 39). For the first time in his life, Richard has tasted what was life to him, and is determined to get away from his family s religious beliefs and get himself the life he wants. He realizes that they can t understand what he is feeling. In this book, religion is used as a way to represent the tension in his family, and is used to make Richard gain independence from his ... • 4. The History and Role of Six Sigma and Lean in the... The human race has made leaps and bounds in manufacturing of goods needed not only to survive, but to make our lives easier and more efficient. From the earliest recorded history, man has made the tools he needed to survive or gain a completive advantage. In the not too distant past, 100 years or so, we had skilled craftsman who had specific skills and talents. In a small town you would have a blacksmith, a tailor, a farmer, etc. Each of these people learned their skills through years of apprenticeships, and the items they made were unique. Their processes often took months or even years to complete. Since these times we as a society have progressed from craftsmanship to assembly lines. Even now we have robotic manufacturing, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The term Six Sigma was coined by Bill Smith in 1986, while at Motorola. It was coined as a target for defect free product manufacturing. The term was derived from the idea that process capability can be described by product or service deviation from specification. ( Six Sigma Basics ). Although this theory turned in to what we now know as Six Sigma, the origins of statistical process control can be traced to Walther Shewart and Edward Deming. Walter Shewart was an engineer, physicist and statistician. He theorized that there are two causes of variation which will lead to decreased product quality. These two causes are the assignable cause, (special cause variation) and chance cause (common cause variation). Assignable Cause variation is an unpredictable, unanticipated problem within the manufacturing system. Chance Cause variation is a well known error or cause that can effect a manufacturing process. Shewart created control charts, focusing on bringing a manufacturing process under control. This would only leave chance cause variation, and keeping this in control a company and predict and manage their processes cost effectively and economically (Akpose). Deming was ... • 7. The Principle Of Affinity Chromatography The objective of this lab was to learn the principle of affinity chromatography by isolating a carbohydrate binding protein from an extract of jack bean meal. The protein that was used for this lab came from jack bean meal, and it is identified as Concanavalin A, or Con A. This is a lectin protein that has the ability to bind with glucose, but it is not a glycoprotein. Furthermore, the monomeric molecular weight of this protein is 25,5001. Concanavalin A also exists as a dimer and a tetramer, and this depends upon the pH of this substance. Finally, Con A requires a transition metal ion such as manganese as well as calcium ions for binding purposes. 1. Begin by inserting a cheesecloth into a syringe and pressing the cheesecloth to the very bottom of the column. 2. Pour 10 ml of the affinity gel into the column. Allow a few minutes for the solution to harden and transform into a gel like consistency. 3. Fill the rest of the column with NaCl, and do so by pouring the solution along the interior side of the column. This allows the gel to become moist. 4. Next, gather 0.5 ml of the protein extract and save this portion in a separate container. This will be used for the preparation of the membrane. 5. Load the remaining protein mix into the column, and this will begin to bind within the column. Once the solution has settled, fill the column with NaCl a total of four times; as the wash is flowing through, collect and label the protein solution in fractions, and save for the ... Although we are addressing the needs of the patient and we have compasion in our job, the idea of nursing shortages, and understaffing is a big issue among the nurses. In order to appropiately meet the needs of our clients and improve their health, the organiztion has to implement some type of way to get the patient ratios to nurses to a safe level, decrease the fatigue of the nurses, thus decreasing the turnover (Huber, 2014). In addition, I feel that caring for the staff is lacking in the organiztion and with the lack of caring comes the lack of euthisam to do the job you were hired to do. In order to correct this, companies need to first of all, evaluate why the staff feels like the managers or facility are uncaring. States and most local governments do not use current revenues to pay for their capital projects. For example, the construction of prisons, school building, or public university. These projects are usually financed from bond revenues. The purchasers of the bond lend the funds to the states that are necessary to finance the project. States, in turn, pledge to pay the bondholders the principal of the loan plus a stipulated rate of return according to Gosling (2002). Among the most prominent Korean culture is their language honorific or polite system. You include specific elements in the language depending on who you speak to or what setting you are in. If you plan to learn the Korean language or are currently learning the language, you ll find that applying honorifics is one of the more difficult things or probably a complicated aspect to learn. However, it is imperative that you learn to implement honorifics in your speech because if not, you will be deemed really rude by Koreans. Let s start off with the most common instance when you should use honorific language. First, Koreans value age. The older you are the more you are respected because of your seniority. So the first thing you have to keep in mind is when speaking to a much older person, apply honorifics in your speech. Korean speech is in the Subject/Object/Verb format as opposed to Subject/Verb/Object for English. To use honorific speech, you must add a yo or seyo at the end of your sentences. seyo which is the combination of shi + oyo is much more respectful. An Analysis of Rumi s Poem Unmarked Boxes Essays An Analysis of Unmarked Boxes In the poem, Unmarked Boxes, writer Jalâl al Din Mohammad Rumi uses metaphors and sound techniques to share wisdom with his readers about accepting one s inability to change fate and about the interconnectedness of the world. Rumi begins with a sentence comprised of two, short but striking words: Don t grieve (1). By saying this, he warns his readers not to attempt to change that which is unchangeable. He also tells his readers to not worry about this, implying that all things happen for a reason. Rumi writes, Anything you lose comes round/ in another form (1 2). By writing these lines with similar structure, Rumi displays that they are all the same and interconnected. In this poem, Rumi also uses imagery and personification. He writes: It hides within these (10). By personifying It which is referring to God s love Rumi paints a picture in his reader s minds. He then writes: Part of the self leaves the body when we sleep/and changes shape (12 13). This, while ambiguous, allows the reader to picture this image how they chose to see it. He continues to use imagery as a tool to capture the reader. He writes, Last night/ I was a cypress tree, a small bed of tulips,/ a field of grapevines (12 14). This paints a clear and vivid picture in the reader s mind. Continuing, he writes, Then the phantasm goes away./ You re back in the room (14 15). Because Australia is underpopulated due to a low birth rate, negative population growth will have adverse long term effects on the economy as the population ages and the labor market becomes less competitive. Because of these reasons the Australian government has a policy which encourages immigration. Immigrants might affect Australia in different ways such as economic and environment. Immigrants have significant influence for Australian economic in positive ways, for example economic growth, population growth and solve the aging problem. There is a simple relationship between immigration and economic growth. More people joining the production cause the economy keeps growing. The more population makes economic growth because more people buy more products. The increase in migration helps GDP growth and keeping Australian economic strong. This shows just how unequal our world is. So what causes inequality? The cause of inequality is due to geography. Farming and domesticated animals is where the problem started. After domesticated animals, came steel leading to the exposure of germs. For a civilization to succeed it needs a steady source of crops, domesticated animals, production of steel, and early exposure to germs. A huge factor that affects a civilization s development is what can be grown in your region. An ideal food supply would be high in protein, have a surplus of calories, and long term storage. It is also used to provide solid background information under the study. The literature reviews aims at finding the gap between what other authors have explained theoretically and empirically and what has not been explained. Townsend (1985) defined poverty as not only a failure to meet minimum nutrition levels but also as a failure to keep with a standard of living prevailing in the society. Thus according to Townsend a household is considered as being poor if and only if its standard of living is below that of the society. The short staff of neonatal nurses has led to more than 23,000 American infants died in 2014, or about 6 for every 1,000 live births (Vital Record New). III. Twenty one years ago, my parents received the devastating news that my lungs were not developing properly and as a result my mom had an induced labor. I was born as a premature baby, weighing only 3 lbs. and was placed in the care of neonatal nurses in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) for 18 days. While my mom came to visit me, she would notice how well the nurses would care for me. Near the time of 100 AD is when alchemy first began in the western hemisphere, specifically Alexandria, Egypt, the joint of Greek and eastern cultures (Encyclopedia Americana Vol. 1: 510). One of the most popular theories that lay the foundation for alchemy was that of Aristotle, written about the 4th century BC (510). That is the theory that heat, cold, moisture, and dryness are the base characteristics of all matter, and they combine to create the four elements: fire, water, earth, and air (510). Consequently, this endured the tensions between the nation to rise even higher than they already were because it had been stated that many provinces didn t agree with the French Canadians and that made them subsequently bitter. Many agree that it is getting to the point that Quebec should separate from Canada. One in three Canadians support this statement. That is where the Referendum Act Two, 1995, takes a role in the dispute over French and English speaking Canadians. After voting on it, the English speaking Canadians prepare to keep Quebec in Canada. Yet, 32% said that they d rather see Quebec leave. When asked how they d vote if another referendum took place with the same question, 49% of the people voted yes, and 42% of the people voted no. While another referendum on secession is not the wish of the people of Canada or some of the people in Quebec, the stated intention is to get Quebec independence. The Clarity Act was the PQ s plans to hold another referendum. They want to create a winning conditions and that is what they intend to do. The government of Canada has the right and obligation to indicate what, in a referendum on secession, it would consider to be a clear majority on a clear question. In conclusion it is proved that due to the Constitution Act, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Placental Ruminants and Herbivorous Marsupials of Australia The marsupial animal species that have evolved on the isolated continent of Australia are unique compared to the rest of the animal kingdom in many ways due to the harsh and distinctive environment found on the continent. The major area of marsupial biology that distinguishes them from all other eutherian mammals is their mode of reproduction. However, it can be said that there are many other areas in which unique differences can be seen between marsupials and eutherian mammals; one such area of adaptation is in the anatomy and physiology of digestion, which distinguishes them from many other similar animals worldwide. Introduction While marsupial species can be found in both North and South America, neither can compare to the marsupial diversity of the isolated continent of Australia. With 180 Australian marsupial species, as opposed to 78 South American and 1 North American species, the ecological niches filled by marsupials in Australia are many and varied due to the lack of native eutherian mammals on the continent. Australian marsupials evolved special adaptations to survive in the harsh and distinctive environment found on the continent. This paper will give a brief overview of the evolution and history of marsupials in Australia, and then compare the digestive systems adaptations of placental ruminants and herbivorous marsupials, with an emphasis on the foregut fermenters, kangaroos and wallabies. • 32. Dbq Essay On Manifest Destiny Manifest Destiny is a term used for the attitude that was prevalent during the 19th century. It was the idea that Americans were destined by God to govern the American continent. There were many country splitting issues caused by Manifest Destiny. One of the major consequences of Manifest Destiny was the removal of Native Americans. This meant that Native American land would be expanded on, the government officials of the United States then also had tensions between all of their bordering states and countries, such as Mexico. Another effect of Manifest Destiny includes the expansion of land. Not only that but scholars also argue that Manifest Destiny ultimately resulted in the civil war. Despite the push to move westward, it was not till the end the of the War of 1812 that the westward movement became a significant outpour of people across the continent. For the grand spirit Manifest Destiny created, it also created a darker side of American History. While the positive side of Manifest Destiny was a growth of enthusiasm and energy for pushing West to extend the land, the negative side was the belief that the white man had the right to destroy anything and anyone. God has not been preparing the English speaking and Tectonic peoples for a thousand years for nothing but vain and idle self admiration (Ryser) Tracing the path of Manifest Destiny across the west would highlight mass destruction of tribal organizations, confinement of Indians to reservations, and full blown genocide. The History Of Nuclear Fission On August 6, 1945, the United States dropped an Atomic Bomb over the City of Hiroshima in Japan, decimating the city, and killing around 140,000 people within months of the explosion. 3 days later, the US dropped a second bomb over the city of Nagasaki in Japan, killing roughly 80,000 people. The second World War had been going on for 7 years, the Germans had surrendered but the Japanese had yet to do so. So the United States created and atomic bomb in a program called the Manhattan project in order to force the Japanese to surrender. Although the atomic bomb ravaged the environment around where it was detonated and would continue to have an impact on the wildlife for many decades to come, it was an extreme advantage in the game of war. With the development of the atomic bomb, the US was able to kill a larger area of people then with normal TNT and missile strikes, and from the areas not directly affected from the blast it would still devastate civilizations in the form of cancer, which was a result of the immense radiation emitted from the reaction. It forced the opposing sides to change their military strategies, and it cause this fear in all the country s that they might be the ones whose country get a bomb dropped on next. There was a feeling of uneasiness and fear in the US s enemies (Bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, 2009). Because of the creation of the atomic bomb, countries were now able to harm their opponents without endangering the lives of their own soldiers. In 1955 the US created the first nuclear submarine (USS Nautilus) which was a submarine that could function without refueling through the use of nuclear energy and nuclear reactors (Bamburg, n.d.). The atomic bomb served its purpose of forcing the Japanese to surrender, and because of that many people can justify that the death of thousands of people was worth the ending ... • 36. Comparing The Crucible, And Les Miserables Today, children are taught to forgive others and give second chances. But this was not always the case. Historically, once someone had committed a crime they were thought of as dishonorable people and it was made known to others that they had committed a sin. This is seen in many literary works including The Scarlet Letter, The Crucible, and Les Miserables. Les Miserables, originally written by Victor Hugo, exemplifies this prejudice. Throughout the story, the characters can not escape the prejudice related to one mistake, or perceived mistake. In the movie version directed by Bille August, Jean Valjean and Fantine are unable to receive forgiveness and move on with their lives. How she climbed the ranks to achieve her goals and how she came into discovering her true passion of astronomy. By describing the events that made this courageous woman, we can see clearly how she set an example for her gender in the Nineteenth century. Women have always been at the forefronts of science, even though they have not always taken the credit for it. She had memorized the sky and was sure of her observation. (Gromley p.55) This was the great discovery that her constant vigilance brought into the open, as she saw a comet of unknown origin. It occurred to her that this might be a comet. Maria recorded the presumed comet s coordinates. The next night the star moved again. This time she was sure it was a comet. Her father wrote to Professor William Bond at the Harvard University observatory about Maria s discovery. Professor Bond submitted Maria s name to the king of Denmark who had offered a gold medal to a person who discovers a comet seen only through a telescope. Another person, Father Francesco de Vico of Rome discovered the same comet two days later (Mitchell p.105) than Maria Mitchell and the decision was made to award him the prize before news of Maria s earlier discovery arrived in Europe. After some negotiations Maria Mitchell was awarded the medal for this discovery a year later. The comet was named Miss Mitchell s Comet. She continued working as a librarian, but now she was also receiving letters of congratulations from scientists and tourists were coming to take a look at the woman astronomer. In 1848 the American Academy of Arts and Sciences voted her the first woman member. The Association for the Advancement of Science did the same in 1850.
