Fifth Moon Observation
On the First Day of the Fifth Moon, denizens all around the castle were startled when the usually calm
home was disrupted by loud noises and various colors of light within the sky. The sudden commotion
caused people to depart what activities they had been doing to travel where the disturbance was the
loudest. Inside the Gate Courtyard, denizens and the Royal Army stood, watching and waiting for
something to reveal itself as the reason behind the disquietude of the sky. Just as they were to move
for an exit, green and purple lights zoomed through the sky and landed in the courtyard with a boom.
Out of curiosity, the group quickly turned to see what invaded their home and upon entering the
courtyard, they came face to face with an unusual cylindrical structure that appeared to have been
burned. Attached to the scorched construct was a tiny harness, the Royal Army examined the two
items, but were unable to get any answers. As they were investigating, another BOOM appeared in the
Inner Bailey in, which caused the Army to pause and rush eastward. Ser Vaden and seras Vasilisa,
Katherin, and Memphis remained from the original group to observe the heated object taking up the
center of the courtyard. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Unlike the other gnomes in this castle, this gnome was clad in black clothing and appeared to be

Lieutenant Natasha and Mistress Wilena appeared just as the smoke cleared and went to locate the
gnome after been given a report of the sighting, alas; no gnome was to be

Psychosocial Model Of Nursing Diagnosis
In the psychosocial component, the nursing diagnosis assigned to this client would be ineffective
pattern of giving and receiving. This is due to the fact that the client has recently experienced the
death of her spouse. This mode deals with affectional adequacy and developmental adequacy.
Affectional adequacy is defined as the ability to give and receive affection from others (Nickerson,
2015). This is important to an individual because it deals with the human need associated with
nurturing. This includes receptive and contributive factors (Nickerson, 2015). Since the client has lost
her spouse, she stated that she felt that she did not receive the kind of affection her spouse gave her. Of

The structural component of this mode includes the significant other. Since this person is no longer
alive, she cannot receive the same nurturing that she once had. Another aspect of this mode is the
client s support system. The other aspects of this client s support system include the rest of the family,
her children, grandchildren, and extended family. In addition, the client s giving behaviors include
making gifts for others, providing love/care to her grandchildren, and ensuring that her family
members feel loved and supported. However, the receiving behaviors of the client are not as evident.
Some stimuli for this nursing diagnosis include the focal stimuli, which is the fact that the client lost
her husband last year. A contextual stimulus includes the family dynamic and the separation of most of
the family from the other, during this period of adjustment to the death of her spouse. This includes
both a family dynamic and environment stimuli because the client s environment is changed. In terms
of residual stimuli, the client s own aging process and health problems could both be

The Planet Jay Comes From The Earth
The planet Jay comes from is known as Mir to its inhabitants.
In this universe, there are several sapient species, who originate both in outer space and on Mir. The
human equivalent, mortal species are lovek, who live down on Mir and, at the time of Jay s entry into
Ryslig, are just starting to venture into outer space. However, besides lovek there are several species
that should be discussed in some detail for a proper understanding of the setting.
Most immortal species in the setting fall under the umbrella of Spirits, based on the fact they are
composed of Spirit (substances relating to magic and the soul) rather than Flesh (you know, meat).
The universe is dualist and most living things within it fall under one of the two broad categories of
Spirit and Flesh.
First, there are the stareczi, who live in deep space and generally stay away from Mir. They re
something akin to sapient fungus (or possibly slimes). They have two instars (life stages), which
dictate their place in society.
The first instar is a haploid, unfused individual that grows from a spore. Unfused stareczi live in loose
groups of about five to ten individuals, though pods as large as twenty five are not uncommon. The
second instar is trickier.
The second instar of stareczi is something between a proper life stage and pair bonding. At maturity,
two haploid stareczi fuse into a single, diploid individual who is capable of sporing. Fused stareczi are
solitary and live away from others of their

Johannes Brahms Essay
The piece of music I have chosen is 4 Symphonien composed by Johannes Brahms, 1833 1897;
conducted by Herbert von Karajan, 1908 1989; produced by Hans Ludwig Hirsch; performed by
Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra (Berliner Philharmoniker) (Deutsche Grammophon, 1990). According,
to Wikipedia (2017) Johannes Brahms, born 7 May 1833 3 April 1897 was a German composer and
pianist of the Romantic period. Born in Hamburg into a Lutheran family, Brahms spent much of his
professional life in Vienna, Austria (p. 1). They further write, His reputation and status as a composer

Reflection
This selection of music contains 4 symphonies which each symphony has 4 movement in itself and is
performed by an orchestra. In each symphony I have come to realize that each symphony brilliantly
exhibits intriguing melodies that are mainly homophonic, but in some parts polyphonic.
The feeling I get as I listen to each section of the orchestra is that they have something to say to each
other and that the texture is linguistic and emotional as the string section sets the heart of the melody
and the percussion and woodwinds imitate or answer with their own melody.
The intensity in each symphony is expressed by the wide range of pitch as the violins played and the
horns and the flutes resonate their sound as a response to the string section create a very joyful and
pleasant listening experience. At times, the music makes me think I am in a Forrest or by a River or on
a journey experiencing the surprises of life or the challenges of it. I can feel each musical instruments
timbre and it sets my mood in each section of the symphony, sad or happy the rhythmic tones from the
orchestra also sounds like a lullaby at some points of the

Analysis of Architecture in Photography Essay
Analysis of Architecture in Photography
I have decided to look at architecture for my next genre in photography. I have chosen architecture as
it is very different to fashion photography and looks at totally different materials and includes different
characteristics. In the early years of photography, few if any photographers were specialists in any
area other than commercial portraiture, which was the main area in which a living could be made from
the new medium. Early photographers did fairly often photograph buildings, often working from the
window of a convenient room rather than at street level.
Many of the images from this era can truly be described as monumental, giving the subjects ... Show

Even thought the photo only consists of blue, it is made up of lots of different shades of blue.
The lights on the building and around it stand out because they are a bright colour. I think the way the
sea blue colour merges into the deep blue/black colour of the background works really well.
The photograph doesn t really have a story to it, as there isn t much going on, it doesn t have energy or
any movement to it at all. However it could easily be a scene used in a film, such as an establishing
shot. The photo has a certain peaceful feel to it. It is soothing to look at; this is because it is a calm,
quiet setting you can almost feel your presence there, staring into the beautiful view. I think the reason
that the photo has such a positive, relaxing feel to it is down to the fact that the composition of the
photo reminds you of a deep blue sea or a clear black sky. The photo has strong verticals and
horizontal, which emphasise a static feel and the negative space.
The picture has a large depth of field with the two buildings the centre point of it. Only natural
lighting is used for this photo, therefore getting the exact time of day right would have been essential.
The photo also has some negative points to it. The angle at which the photograph is taken from makes
the picture looks really flat and plain, For instance if

Great Candies Research Paper
Breathtaking Experience: Qualities of Great Candies
The average american consumes about twenty two pounds of candy each year. That is a lot of candy.
For people to consume so much, there really must be something special in them. The unique quality of
every candy is what makes the candy delicious. Similar qualities can be found in all great candies.
First, candies with nuts make them seem a whole lot more desirable. Crunch has a brilliant nutty and
crunchy taste. The nuts add some flavor to the boring chocolate taste. The nuts also provide the actual
crunch. Another candy with nuts is Snickers. Snickers have peanuts to make its chocolate bar more
flavourful. It becomes a great combination with the added caramel. Lastly, Payday covers its whole
surface with nuts. It is most likely the nuttiest treat out there. Payday mixes its nuts and caramel in

American Identity And American Identity
Ever since our ancestors began to migrate to this country, we have been in conflict with each other.
Facing off against each other through slavery, the civil war, and even against the Harlem Renaissance.
Although our country has gone through this turmoil and faced ethnic issues, our true identity shines
through with our fight for freedom, the ability to create our own and america s path through american
ingenuity even in times of great distress. Through the workings of Jackson Pollock, showing how not

important in American history than immigration. All americans came from a different descent,
whether it was African, European, or Asian, every american is different. The mixing of culture and
countries is what makes america uniquely great. Beginning with Christopher Columbus finding parts
of the Caribbean, and ever since then many more explorers came to seek refuge in the vast continent
of America. The melting pot that the immigrants created when they landed in America added to the

What Is The Theme Of Beauty In Night Of The Ninjas
Morgan Le Fay is an old character who has gone through many changes in her characterization and
personality since she was introduced to literature in The Life of Merlin. Morgan went from being a
benevolent goddess in the medieval times to a sultry witch in the modern world. The 1868 poem
Earthly Paradise portrays Morgan as a beautiful enigma whose looks are paralyzing and powerful.
Since Earthly Paradise was written in Victorian times, beauty was highly focused on; it was culturally
expected for women to exert tremendous amounts of energy on the way they looked. On the other
hand, Night of the Ninjas focuses more on Morgan s ability to time travel to different historical
periods rather than her aesthetic. Because Night of the Ninjas is from modern times, beauty and
perfection are not as important as they were in the Victorian era, so Morgan s powers are highly
valued and her looks are downplayed. The variations in the way different aspects of Morgan are
emphasized is due to what each culture values. Earthly Paradise, by William Morris, highlights the
Victorian way of thinking by emphasizing Morgan Le Fay s beauty. This intense focus on her beauty
is unique to this poem, which offers a window into how people experienced beauty in the 19th
century. Beauty was meant to be shown off and compared, so many upper class women went to great
lengths to perfect themselves. Nowadays our perceptions of beauty are more private and personal; we
find beauty in unexpected places,

A Common Social Theme Of History
A common social theme of history is the constant battle of equal rights for both men and women. Ever
since the development of the first agricultural societies during the BC times, people have been living
in a society where paternalism and patriarchy dominated; men are always at the top of the social
hierarchy. Men were always the leaders, the priests, the ones who decide what was right and what was
wrong. Women have battled for equality with their male counterparts ever since then. They have
fought for their right to vote. They have fought for their right to speak at religious liturgies. They have
fought for their right to equal job and educational opportunities. Social equality between men and
women will always be a never ending ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Yet, many have discovered that women can perform just as well as men. After serving in battle and
demonstrating noteworthy acts of bravery and performance under enemy fire, women have been
earning Combat Action Badges. Two women Sergeant Leigh Ann Hester and Specialist Monica Lin
Brown have received Silver Stars, one of the highest military decorations a person can receive
(Mackenzie). These women have been doing extraordinary work in the field, explaining why they
received such a high symbol of military respect. Their lack of strength does not inhibit their mentality
and physicality to do whatever they need to do to protect their country. Also, females who do enlist are
generally more fit than the average woman (Mackenzie). This is a common fallacy in the argument of
those who say women are not as fit as men and therefore are not as capable: they base their
assumptions on the ability of the average women while remaining oblivious to the ability of those who
actually enlist. Militaries across the world have found that with proper training, women can complete
the same tasks as men that require strength that many seem to say women lack (Mackenzie). During
the Gulf War, about 400,000 female soldiers fought and did not fail because of a lack of upper body
strength (Quindlen). Rather, 33,000 of those females directed artillery, flew planes, and served in

Essay on Archetypes In Siddhartha
In analyzing the novel Siddhartha, we find that Herman Hesse has incorporated many literary
techniques to relay his message to the reader. By using various writing approaches to convey the
theme of the novel, Hesse appeals to the readers senses and aides them in grasping the novel. Included
in these techniques are symbolism, metaphor, allusion, and archetypes. He compares many issues that
Siddhartha faces to everyday objects and forces, making the novel easier to understand. Three of the
main archetypes
Hesse uses to get his point across are trees, rivers, and sleep.
One of the more obvious symbols used in the novel is a tree. Cross culturally, it is extremely common
for trees ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He lets go of the tree and considers suicide, but immediately sinks back underneath its trunk when he
realizes how childish the thought of killing himself is. By showing the reader how drastically different
Siddhartha s decisions and ideas are while he s away from a tree as opposed to underneath of one, we
see just how strong its symbolism in the novel is. The use of this archetype shows the audience how
important wisdom and intelligence are.
Another example of cross cultural themes found in Siddhartha is the symbolism of the river. We find
that in many civilizations rivers represent life and the path we take to find our destiny. Garth Brooks
song quot; The River quot; is a perfect example of the usage of rivers as a metaphor for life:
quot;...Trying to learn from what s behind you and never knowing what s in store, makes each day a
constant battle just to stay between the shores... quot; This quote from the song can be directly
compared to Siddhartha s life, as he lives his life trying to gain new knowledge and learn from his
experiences. By personifying the river and actually making it a character at the end of the novel, it
strengthens the image in a reader s mind of the path that Siddhartha must follow through his
experience on Earth. Hesse further emphasizes this symbol by using the word
quot;flowing quot; frequently throughout the novel. Small things, like speech

most fascinating was the point at which we discussed the earth s planetary group. I discovered that the
earth s planetary group has numerous things in it, however as large as the earth s planetary group is it
just has one stay which is called Sol which is otherwise called the sun. The earth s planetary group is
4.568billion years of age, and it comprises of eight planets. The IAU is right now perceiving five
midget planets, however of the five there are perhaps a few hundred more to be named. At this point
there are 431 common satellites, and of those 173 of them are planetary and 258 of them are named
minor. There are 659,212 referred to lunar planets and 3296 comets as of September 25, 2014. Our

Depression and Antidepressants Essay
Depression and Antidepressants
Specifically the serotonergic hypothesis and the action of Prozac
The cause of Clinical depression has long been a mystery to physicians and researchers. Many
different theories have been proposed, but no conclusive evidence has been put forth. However, most
of what we know about depression stems from the results of certain drugs which have been successful
in treating the clinically depressed. These anti depressants have led to the assumption that depression
is most likely due to a chemical imbalance (of neurotransmitters) which somehow leads to the
symptoms of depression. To try and write a paper on all the theories of depression would be endless,
as would be a study on all the different types of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The pertinent findings will be explained, and their implications on future anti depressants will be
addressed.
Many clinical studies have been used to suggest a role for serotonin in the propensity for depression or
suicidal tendencies. Most of these studies measured the level of serotonin in the CSF in certain
individuals. Results established a link between reduced serotonin neurotransmission and aggression,
impulsivity, depression, and suicidal tendencies. Other data, using markers in presynaptic and
postsynaptic serotonergic neurons have shown that reduction in serotonin neurotransmission is a
biochemical risk factor for suicide (1).
Other clinical studies have implicated fluoxetine s effects on serotonin neurotransmitters, based on the
fact that serotonin is synthesized from the essential amino acid tryptophan. Patients taking fluoxetine
who were in remission from major depression were given a special diet which was tryptophan free.
This rapidly decreased plasma serotonin levels, and after a short period of time (as little as 30
minutes) many of the patients began to have signs of specific depressive symptoms. Later, the
reappearance of more general depressive symptoms were observed in a majority of the patients. Thus
it was shown that fluoxetine has a profound effect on the neurotransmitter serotonin, and decreased

Nurse Competency
Practice problems are those that affects care, need a solution, and would make a difference when gets
improved (Assisting Nurses with Practice Problems). Every workplace has one or other practice
problems that are current (Current Issues and Topics, n.d.). In my workplace, one of the major
problems is the varying competency levels of nurses. The purpose of this paper is to establish that
varying levels of nurse competency is a current practice problem.
Identification of a practice problem
In my hospital, the turnover of nursing staff is high due to reasons like retirement, transfers etc. This
leads to the hiring of new nurses. My workplace accepts new graduates. As they are the beginners in
the profession, they are the novice (Cheetham ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
During the orientation period and after, she used to miss medications, charted incorrect etc. This
required other nurses to do her work too. The general levels of competency of nurses of my workplace
range from level competent to the expert. Based off of my statistics, thirty three percent of the nurses I
oriented were incompetent nurses. Hiring these nurses might be an easy way for the employer to solve
staffing shortage. But it raises another problem. No institution has time to train one third of their staff,
still tend to their patients when there is a staffing shortage. Neither the patients nor the existing nurses
deserve such a jeopardizing situation. Even though to achieve competence, there needs to be an
individualized time frame (Carraccio, Benson, Nixon, Derstine, 2008), the competence level requires
nurses to have at least two to three years of experience. This help them plan ahead and work
efficiently (Peña, 2015). What everyone expects from the newcomers is having theoretical knowledge
and just lacking experience. Thirty three percent of what we get are people with almost no theoretical
or practical knowledge or experience (Carraccio, et al.2008). Every nurse has different levels of
competency depending on their level of education and experience. When someone lacking both
requirements enters the workforce, the training time used slows the workforce till the new nurse
reaches the required

Loyalty In Antigone By Sophocles
In Antigone, Sophocles introduces the struggle between loyalty to civil law versus familial loyalty and
divine law, which is a central conflict in the play. Antigone has a firm belief in upholding family
values and honoring the gods and deceased by burying her brother. In contrast, Creon wants to do
what is best for the city which is, in his opinion, forbidding the burial of Polynices. Both Antigone and
Creon believe that their point of view is more important, and neither is willing to change perspective,
causing the chain of destructive events in the plot. Loyalty causes the deadly dispute between
Antigone and Creon because of their conflicting perspectives about precedence. Antigone has the
strong belief that loyalty to the dead and to the gods has precedence over all other opinions,
specifically those of Creon. Antigone does not at all care that the one with all governing power has the
most disagreement with her decision to remain devoted to her family below. Since I must please those
below a longer time than the people here, for I shall lie there forever (Sophocles 16). She knows and
understands that time in the mortal world has a limit, however time in the underworld is eternal.
Pleasing Creon and his belief to only stay true to civil laws are of no concern to Antigone, for all she
wants is to please her family below and the gods above. An example of this is the burial of Polynices,
because while it is right in Antigone s eyes, Creon believes it is foolish and a sin

The Importance Of The Theatrical Space And How It Can...
In the words of Gay McAuley, for an activity to be regarded as a performance, it must involve the live
presence of the performers and those witnessing it... (McAuley, 2009, cited in Schechner, 2013,
pp.38). This statement recognises the importance of both the actor and the audience for something to
truly function as a performance. In addition, Lloyd Llewellyn Jones highlights the significance of the
theatrical space and how it can influence an audience stating that on entering a theatre of any kind, a
spectator walks into a specific space, one that is designed to produce a certain reaction or series of
responses (Llewellyn Jones, 2002, pp.3). The relationship between actor, audience and theatrical space
is no less important today than it was at the time of theatre during the Spanish Golden Age and the
creation of Commedia dell arte in Italy. Despite being very close geographically with theatre thriving
for both in the same era, sources that explore the social, cultural and historical context of these
countries and the theatre styles will bring to light the similarities and differences. This essay will
analyse the staging, the behaviour of the audience as well as the challenges the actors faced, and how
this directly influenced the relationship between actor, audience and theatrical space.
Commedia dell arte was established during the sixteenth century at a time when theatre flourished in
Italy. Despite such a rich time for the arts, a divide in the church as well as

Empiricism In Dracula And Frankenstein
The Enlightenment or Age of Reason , was a period roughly around 1685 to 1815 during which,
movements such as the rise of empiricism, natural philosophy and modern scientific inventions were
quite prevalent especially preceding and during the Victorian era. Literature written within the
Victorian period of 1837 to 1901 was largely influenced by these movements and often portrayed an
opposition or alignment towards them. Dracula and Frankenstein can be great examples, both written
during, or slightly after The Enlightenment and Victorian era, while being great examples of Gothic
Fiction . As such, today s discussion will summarize the way in which Victorian literature specifically
Dracula and Frankenstein were both influenced by movements during the The Enlightenment .
Foremost, rationalism was overshadowed by empiricism during this time period. Rationalism a
philosophy which relied on reason and knowledge was opposed by an emerging philosophy known as
empiricism. Empiricism resonated with many individuals during The Enlightenment because it stated
that, knowledge is acquired through observation and sensory of an individual the basis on which
science and therefore The Enlightenment was built on. Consequently, this theme is often visited
throughout Dracula and Frankenstein. For instance, in Dracula, page 204 states You do not let your
eyes see, nor your ears hear... . This passage, is one of the many in which Professor Van Helsing is
trying to subtly

A Summary OfThe Moths
Do you remember the last time you took a bath? A bath filled with bubbles, perhaps with a younger
sibling? What about the last time you stood in a bath, holding your dead grandmother, naked as moths
came out of her mouth? In the short story The Moths , by Helena Maria Viramontes, a young Latina
misfit granddaughter matures the moment her grandmother dies. Compared to her relationship with
her parents and her siblings, the bond she carried with her Abuelita was special. She found comfort
with her after receiving several whippings, broken her arm, puberty and even her first lie. (1) She
would gladly help her out with her gardening or cooking, although they hardly spoke, or hardly looked
at each other as they worked. Although she was rebellious and callous, human experience is conveyed
through magical realism, exemplifying the narrator s vulnerability towards her grandmother. The
moths first made an appearance as healing method for the narrator s bull hands , her Abuelita made a
balm out of dried moth wings and Vicks and rubbed [her] hands, shaped them back to size and it was
the strangest feeling (3). Immediately the moths are associated with healing. The dead moth wings are
used to heal the wellbeing of the narrator. Later, the moths are part of the grandmother s death, as
small, gray ones that came from her soul and out through her mouth flutter[ed] to light (16). At the
beginning of the story the moths appeared as resources to heal the narrator, now they are shown

Eli Lilly Case Study Summary
The case consists of two major pharmaceutical companies that joint to collaborate their research and
pharmaceutical technologies to start a joint venture in India. Both have valuable resources that have
benefited both companies during the joint venture. Now both are questioning if there is still any value
in maintaining the joint venture in India and will be deciding what will be the best route to take.
Ranbaxy Laboratories wants to be bought out, but Eli Lilly is worried of the financial implications of
such move. There were two pharmaceutical companies that were looking for ways to expand globally
to position themselves in a competitive advantage from their competitors. One was located in the
United States, which was Eli Lilly and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Lilly also saw opportunities to use the world for clinical testing, which would enable it to move
forward faster, as well as shape opinion with leaders in the medical field around the world; something
that would help in Lilly s marketing stage. Ranbaxy s R D efforts began at the end of the 1970s; in
1979, the company still had only 12 scientists. Ranbaxy approached Lilly in 1992 to investigate the
possibility of supplying certain active ingredients or sourcing of intermediate products to Lilly in
order to provide low cost sources of intermediate pharmaceutical ingredients. The two companies had
very different business focuses.
Once Indian JV was formed, they were facing with the following issues. They were new and it was
very difficult for them. They did not have a distribution network and Lilly did not want to invest
heavily in setting up a distribution network.
The employee turnover in the Indian pharmaceutical industry was very high. The first products that
came out of the joint venture were human insulin from Lilly and several Ranbaxy products; but the
team faced constant challenges in dealing with government regulations on the one hand and financing
the affiliate on the other. There were also cash flow constraints. The company lacked in systems and
processes that brought stability to the fast growing organization. They also did not have in place

Statutory Rape Case Study
Does men and women get the same protection under statutory rape laws? Based on the findings, I can
say that there may have something wrong with criminal justice system itself. This might depend on the
age of the person who was involved. For instance, I watched the movie the boy next door that the
teacher got into relationship with a student. I am not going to go in deep about the movie, but the boy
actually was old enough to the fact that himself was in love with that teacher. I believe though that no
matter what age or gender, there should not be any sexual relationship between the teacher and the
student she teaches. This can be found in the book of code of ethics of the National Association of
Social Workers. A teacher is under this association and in that book, they talk about how to act
professional. The teacher who took ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In this case sexual harassment occurring here is child abuse. So, the case is not only the rape, but
taking advantage of those they tend to protect and educate. There might be something like if you don t
do this you will get a failing grade or I will fail you. Using the power in order to harass these kids is
what I am looking at the most in this case. Another reason the law punishes these kinds of crimes
seriously is that memory will remain in those kids mind. They are a lot more to it than just a rape.
This draws the lines to simply teenagers who having sex to people who are older than them. I think
this also can be looked in couple different ways. One is, does rape occurred? and what relationship
was between the two? This is to help us figure out whether force was used or age advantage was used.
For example, in the of Michael M., I believe that even though the statutory rape law is defined to be
sexual intercourse with a female who is not the wife when she is under 18 years, they both were on the
same age range and that they should all been

Margaret Atwood s Happy Endings
Humanity s inherent desire for results and rewards belittles the process of a journey,
undervaluing/deprecating the character development that comes within, which notably can be
portrayed in Margaret Atwood s Happy Endings . In her metafictional short story, Atwood includes six
different scenarios that are labeled A to F, which briefly describes the characters lives, ultimately
ending with death. Moreover, the names of characters recur in each scenario, referencing one another
throughout the entire short story. Particularly when Atwood s short story Happy Endings was
published, people noticed that she was questioning gender roles and Canada s progress towards
equality (Seaman). In recent times, critics see her short story attacking ... Show more content on

Unfortunately, in this case, the Bible oppresses women by limiting them to remain in their household.
Hence, Atwood is stunned that the Bible even enforces such a discriminatory idea; she refers this
imposition as evil , evidently indicating that she defies the Bible s principles as well as illustrating
herself as a feminist. With the establishment of an Equality Clause , Atwood s role as a civil activist
influenced her to write Happy Endings to further criticize the arbitrary roles and norm that negatively
impacted women. Almost a year prior to the publication of Atwood s short story, an Equality Clause
was included in the Constitution of Canada , guaranteeing men, women and the disabled equal rights.
In a 1994 Booklist review, Donna Seaman, the adult editor of Booklist, mentions that Atwood
continues to question the roots of [society s] assumptions about gender roles, testing ...[Canada s]
shaky sense of progress toward equality ( Good Bones and Simple Murders ). Doubtlessly, Atwood s
short story displays how women easily fall prey to sexism. As of recently, Rena Korb, an American
feminist, points out that Atwood criticizes societal conventions, particularly those surrounding the
roles of women (2). For instance, in Version B, Mary suffers from a one sided relationship with John

Deception In The Importance Of Being Ernest
The truth is rarely pure and never simple. The Importance of Being Earnest by Oscar Wilde, is a story
in which the attitude and dialogue simply distinguishes each character for who they truly are.
Additionally, the key setting of The Importance of Being Earnest revolves around the idea of
deception. Throughout the story, the characters begin to unveil their actual backgrounds after
committing the act of telling a variety of lies. Correspondingly, in this victorian era society the
character live in, it is ingrained in the minds of individuals that marriage has everything to do with
status; or in this case, the name. One character in particular that caught my attention was Algernon
Moncrieff. I believe this because through the use of deception, Wilde manages to contribute to the

in a man named Algernon. In the act of these lies, Algernon manages to stay loose, and follow through

Suffragette Movie Essay
I was given the opportunity to watch the movie Suffragette. The movie illustrated the struggle women
endured while pursuing the right to vote. Lives of actual women who participated during the
movement were illustrated in the film along with fictional characters. I used the full names of real life
characters, and just the first name of fictional characters in this essay.
In watching the plot unfold I could not help but notice the social structures and emotions fall in to
design. The characters covered realistically: nuclear families, role conflict, role distancing,
dramaturgical analysis, social groups, deviance, crime, social stratification, government power and
policy ending with altruistic suicide, and the impact of global village.
The opening sketch begins with a young woman named Maud who works in a laundry with her

the social deviance Maud is taking part in. Maud experiences role strain and she flips out, attacking

Fifth Moon Observation On the First Day of the Fifth Moon, denizens all around the castle were startled when the usually calm home was disrupted by loud noises and various colors of light within the sky. The sudden commotion caused people to depart what activities they had been doing to travel where the disturbance was the loudest. Inside the Gate Courtyard, denizens and the Royal Army stood, watching and waiting for something to reveal itself as the reason behind the disquietude of the sky. In this universe, there are several sapient species, who originate both in outer space and on Mir. The human equivalent, mortal species are lovek, who live down on Mir and, at the time of Jay s entry into Ryslig, are just starting to venture into outer space. However, besides lovek there are several species that should be discussed in some detail for a proper understanding of the setting. Most immortal species in the setting fall under the umbrella of Spirits, based on the fact they are composed of Spirit (substances relating to magic and the soul) rather than Flesh (you know, meat). The universe is dualist and most living things within it fall under one of the two broad categories of Spirit and Flesh. First, there are the stareczi, who live in deep space and generally stay away from Mir. They re something akin to sapient fungus (or possibly slimes). They have two instars (life stages), which dictate their place in society. The first instar is a haploid, unfused individual that grows from a spore. Unfused stareczi live in loose groups of about five to ten individuals, though pods as large as twenty five are not uncommon. The second instar is trickier. The second instar of stareczi is something between a proper life stage and pair bonding. At maturity, two haploid stareczi fuse into a single, diploid individual who is capable of sporing. According, to Wikipedia (2017) Johannes Brahms, born 7 May 1833 3 April 1897 was a German composer and pianist of the Romantic period. Born in Hamburg into a Lutheran family, Brahms spent much of his professional life in Vienna, Austria (p. 1). Reflection This selection of music contains 4 symphonies which each symphony has 4 movement in itself and is performed by an orchestra. In each symphony I have come to realize that each symphony brilliantly exhibits intriguing melodies that are mainly homophonic, but in some parts polyphonic. The feeling I get as I listen to each section of the orchestra is that they have something to say to each other and that the texture is linguistic and emotional as the string section sets the heart of the melody and the percussion and woodwinds imitate or answer with their own melody. The intensity in each symphony is expressed by the wide range of pitch as the violins played and the horns and the flutes resonate their sound as a response to the string section create a very joyful and pleasant listening experience. At times, the music makes me think I am in a Forrest or by a River or on a journey experiencing the surprises of life or the challenges of it. I can feel each musical instruments timbre and it sets my mood in each section of the symphony, sad or happy the rhythmic tones from the orchestra also sounds like a lullaby at some points of the ... I have chosen architecture as it is very different to fashion photography and looks at totally different materials and includes different characteristics. In the early years of photography, few if any photographers were specialists in any area other than commercial portraiture, which was the main area in which a living could be made from the new medium. The photograph doesn t really have a story to it, as there isn t much going on, it doesn t have energy or any movement to it at all. However it could easily be a scene used in a film, such as an establishing shot. The photo has a certain peaceful feel to it. It is soothing to look at; this is because it is a calm, quiet setting you can almost feel your presence there, staring into the beautiful view. I think the reason that the photo has such a positive, relaxing feel to it is down to the fact that the composition of the photo reminds you of a deep blue sea or a clear black sky. The photo has strong verticals and horizontal, which emphasise a static feel and the negative space. The picture has a large depth of field with the two buildings the centre point of it. • 17. What Is The Theme Of Beauty In Night Of The Ninjas Morgan Le Fay is an old character who has gone through many changes in her characterization and personality since she was introduced to literature in The Life of Merlin. Morgan went from being a benevolent goddess in the medieval times to a sultry witch in the modern world. The 1868 poem Earthly Paradise portrays Morgan as a beautiful enigma whose looks are paralyzing and powerful. Since Earthly Paradise was written in Victorian times, beauty was highly focused on; it was culturally expected for women to exert tremendous amounts of energy on the way they looked. On the other hand, Night of the Ninjas focuses more on Morgan s ability to time travel to different historical periods rather than her aesthetic. Because Night of the Ninjas is from modern times, beauty and perfection are not as important as they were in the Victorian era, so Morgan s powers are highly valued and her looks are downplayed. The variations in the way different aspects of Morgan are emphasized is due to what each culture values. Earthly Paradise, by William Morris, highlights the Victorian way of thinking by emphasizing Morgan Le Fay s beauty. This intense focus on her beauty is unique to this poem, which offers a window into how people experienced beauty in the 19th century. Beauty was meant to be shown off and compared, so many upper class women went to great lengths to perfect themselves. Nowadays our perceptions of beauty are more private and personal; we find beauty in unexpected places, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Ever since the development of the first agricultural societies during the BC times, people have been living in a society where paternalism and patriarchy dominated; men are always at the top of the social hierarchy. Men were always the leaders, the priests, the ones who decide what was right and what was wrong. Women have battled for equality with their male counterparts ever since then. These women have been doing extraordinary work in the field, explaining why they received such a high symbol of military respect. Their lack of strength does not inhibit their mentality and physicality to do whatever they need to do to protect their country. Also, females who do enlist are generally more fit than the average woman (Mackenzie). This is a common fallacy in the argument of those who say women are not as fit as men and therefore are not as capable: they base their assumptions on the ability of the average women while remaining oblivious to the ability of those who actually enlist. Militaries across the world have found that with proper training, women can complete the same tasks as men that require strength that many seem to say women lack (Mackenzie). • 20. Essay on Archetypes In Siddhartha In analyzing the novel Siddhartha, we find that Herman Hesse has incorporated many literary techniques to relay his message to the reader. By using various writing approaches to convey the theme of the novel, Hesse appeals to the readers senses and aides them in grasping the novel. Included in these techniques are symbolism, metaphor, allusion, and archetypes. He compares many issues that Siddhartha faces to everyday objects and forces, making the novel easier to understand. Three of the main archetypes Hesse uses to get his point across are trees, rivers, and sleep. One of the more obvious symbols used in the novel is a tree. He lets go of the tree and considers suicide, but immediately sinks back underneath its trunk when he realizes how childish the thought of killing himself is. By showing the reader how drastically different Siddhartha s decisions and ideas are while he s away from a tree as opposed to underneath of one, we see just how strong its symbolism in the novel is. The use of this archetype shows the audience how important wisdom and intelligence are. Another example of cross cultural themes found in Siddhartha is the symbolism of the river. We find that in many civilizations rivers represent life and the path we take to find our destiny. Garth Brooks song quot; The River quot; is a perfect example of the usage of rivers as a metaphor for life: quot;...Trying to learn from what s behind you and never knowing what s in store, makes each day a constant battle just to stay between the shores... quot; This quote from the song can be directly compared to Siddhartha s life, as he lives his life trying to gain new knowledge and learn from his experiences. By personifying the river and actually making it a character at the end of the novel, it strengthens the image in a reader s mind of the path that Siddhartha must follow through his experience on Earth. Hesse further emphasizes this symbol by using the word quot;flowing quot; frequently throughout the novel. Small things, like speech ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Many different theories have been proposed, but no conclusive evidence has been put forth. Many clinical studies have been used to suggest a role for serotonin in the propensity for depression or suicidal tendencies. Most of these studies measured the level of serotonin in the CSF in certain individuals. Results established a link between reduced serotonin neurotransmission and aggression, impulsivity, depression, and suicidal tendencies. Other data, using markers in presynaptic and postsynaptic serotonergic neurons have shown that reduction in serotonin neurotransmission is a biochemical risk factor for suicide (1). Other clinical studies have implicated fluoxetine s effects on serotonin neurotransmitters, based on the fact that serotonin is synthesized from the essential amino acid tryptophan. Patients taking fluoxetine who were in remission from major depression were given a special diet which was tryptophan free. This rapidly decreased plasma serotonin levels, and after a short period of time (as little as 30 minutes) many of the patients began to have signs of specific depressive symptoms. Later, the reappearance of more general depressive symptoms were observed in a majority of the patients. Thus it was shown that fluoxetine has a profound effect on the neurotransmitter serotonin, and decreased ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 25. Loyalty In Antigone By Sophocles In Antigone, Sophocles introduces the struggle between loyalty to civil law versus familial loyalty and divine law, which is a central conflict in the play. Antigone has a firm belief in upholding family values and honoring the gods and deceased by burying her brother. In contrast, Creon wants to do what is best for the city which is, in his opinion, forbidding the burial of Polynices. Both Antigone and Creon believe that their point of view is more important, and neither is willing to change perspective, causing the chain of destructive events in the plot. Loyalty causes the deadly dispute between Antigone and Creon because of their conflicting perspectives about precedence. Antigone has the strong belief that loyalty to the dead and to the gods has precedence over all other opinions, specifically those of Creon. Antigone does not at all care that the one with all governing power has the most disagreement with her decision to remain devoted to her family below. Since I must please those below a longer time than the people here, for I shall lie there forever (Sophocles 16). She knows and understands that time in the mortal world has a limit, however time in the underworld is eternal. Pleasing Creon and his belief to only stay true to civil laws are of no concern to Antigone, for all she wants is to please her family below and the gods above. Foremost, rationalism was overshadowed by empiricism during this time period. Rationalism a philosophy which relied on reason and knowledge was opposed by an emerging philosophy known as empiricism.
