Lemongrass oil is extracted through solvent extraction and steam distillation. For solvent extraction, dried lemongrass is soaked in water then placed in a flask with hexane solvent for 36 hours to extract the oil. The extract is then separated using ethanol and heating. Steam distillation involves placing fresh lemongrass in a flask with water, heating to boil and condense the steam to extract the oil. The oil has various medicinal uses including detoxifying the body, preventing cancer, and being beneficial against Staphylococcus aureus infections.
