2. The Military Institutional System For Military Service...
Individuals who join the military come from various backgrounds, once within the
military institutional system, families can be at an advantage by stable employment
and benefits, and safe, well maintained local environments (Rodriguez Margolin,
2015, p.35). However, military deployments and duty related separations are very
common for military service members and their families. They are one of the most
widely recognized and documented stressors for military families. Nevertheless, the
experience of separation can also strengthen military couples and families by
increasing their resiliency (as cited in Norwood, Fullerton, Hagen, 1996). The
temporary absence of a parent is experienced by many youth and can have profound
effects on their... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Complicating the picture are common gender differences in: rates of internalizing and
externalizing symptoms, coping strategy utilization, and susceptibility to
environmental factors, including parenting among youth. Although early studies on
parental deployment suggested boys were at elevated risk (as cited in Jensen et al.
1996), most recent studies (as cited in e.g., Chartrand et al. 2008; Flake et al. 2009)
п¬Ѓnd no main effect of gender on outcomes. However, during adolescence, boys
appear more at risk for suicidality (Reed et al. 2011) and girls for emotional,
behavioral, and academic problems during their parent s deployment. There is
evidence that more complex patterns do exist such as, findings that parents girl
school aged children reported higher externalizing symptoms during deployment and
parents of boys reported elevated symptoms at reunion. (Rodriguez Margolin, 2015,
p.28). In addition, absences that pose more danger or hardship to the absent parent
(e.g., when separations are traumatic, long, or lead to п¬Ѓnancial deprivation) are
linked to poorer functioning for youth. Within military deployment literature, a few
reviews provide detailed information about the intersection of deployment demands
and developmental changes during early childhood and adolescence (as cited in
Milburn and Lightfoot 2013). Desert Storm era studies suggested younger children
were more at risk during deployment. However, studies of recent conflicts have
3. 24 Hour Creation Days
I believe without a doubt the Bible states that these are 24 hour days of creation.
This has been backed up with my research and other research that I found in and
out of the Bible. Though not a popular opinion or one accepted by almost all of
academic circles I believe the Bible shines the light on the literal 24 hour creation
days. Therefore, I will set out in the preceding paper to lay out my case for the
literal interpretation of scripture when talking about the creation of the world. There
is many smart and historical evidence that will support this position and I believe
will carry the light of truth. Last semester I had the privilege to be in Jonathon Henry
s EarthScience class. This classed pushed me to look and interpret data through a
much different lens. I had previously taken an earth science course at a community
college in California previously, therefore I had knowledge of the secular view. The
professor I had at the secular college opened with a statement of how many of you in

God s revelation maybe revealed in science but as long as it lines up with His
word. Therefore, I think it is plain and I have proven that the creation days were
meant to be interested as literal 24 hour periods. This is not a popular view in
today s world and people will rebel and call you all sorts of names. Thus, we must
remember that both sides hold to religious ideas, but only one side has the truth.
Therefore, I will close with what the Bible says about the word and leave it at that.
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was
God. 2 He was with God in the beginning. 3 Through him all things were made;
without him nothing was made that has been made. 4 In him was life, and that life
was the light of all mankind. 5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has

Gryphon s Gold Review (Novomatic)
//copy//
With lion and eagle symbols abound, it s safe to say that Gryphon s Gold is an
offering from Novomatic that leans heavily on its fable theme. In this game the
gryphons wreak havoc on the fairytale land known as Winalot, by making off with
unicorns, damsels and dwarfs. They spirit them away into the hills, thus it is your
mission to retrieve them from the mountains, making you a hero in the pocess. We all
know that heroes should be well compensated for their efforts, and any player ...

Thrown Into A Fairytale
Back when the so called fairytale kingdom of Winalot was a kingdom of peace,
players would envisage gnomes relaxed on their prized mushrooms, as elegant,
blonde young women dashed around on unicorns. Yes, that statement reads just as
ridiculous as it sounds. Gryphon s Gold really is odd in theme, especially when
you consider that this is a game that puts players into the shoes of a hero that must
rid the kingdom of evil gryphons. Being completely honest, seldom have we seen a
developer put something so barmy on show across 5 reels and 3 rows before.
Ruling The Kingdom Of Winalot
Winalot becomes a land of plenty for players from the very minute that they arrive.
Start by rescuing mushrooms and gnomes, as your heroic efforts can yield as many
as 25,000 coins for such efforts. Keeping the kingdom s palace invasion resistant
can get you 40,000 coins, and atop that pile of loot could be up to 75,000 coins if
you can retrieve pretty maidens and unicorns as
5. Similarities Between Omelas And The Lottery
In the fictional short stories The lottery and The ones who walk away from Omelas
the authors convey that sacrifice is the true key to happiness, prosperity, and
livelihood, but both authors hold different views on how these goals are achieved. In
both stories the authors show different types of sacrifice and how it helps hold
together a Utopian society. In Omelas it describes a beautiful townand how
everything is perfect, it talks about how there is a festival and lights with bells and
singing, decorated with silver and gold streamers. From that description it makes
this town sound like a year round party that never ends, but this whole party is
depending on the suffering of a small child. It could be a boy or a girl. It looks
about six, but actually is nearly 10. It is feeble minded. Perhaps it was born
defective, or perhaps it has become imbecile through fear, malnutrition, and neglect. It
picks its nose and occasionally fumbles vaguely with its toes or genitals... (3). In The
Lotterythe society seems kind of gloomy, but all the people seem to be in a good
mood at the time. The whole town gathers around a stage to... Show more content on

6. Portrayal Of Female Sexuality By Bram Stoker s Dracula
Bram Stoker s 1897 Dracula is a novel that condemns liberated female sexuality,
presenting it as volatile and threatening to the established patriarchal order of the
Victorian Era. By examining the varying level of sexuality among Stoker s female
characters and their narrative outcomes, the novel s attitude that female sexuality is
hostile becomes apparent.
In Castle Dracula, Harker meets three vampiric women whose monstrosity is
presented as inseparable from their eroticism. Describing their fangs, Jonathan Harker
writes I could see in the moonlight the moisture shining on the scarlet lips and on the
red tongue as it lapped the white sharp teeth (52). Here, fangs serve as signs of these

In extreme contrast to the lecherous she beasts met by her husband in
Transylvania, Mrs Johnathan Harker epitomises the Victorian notion of a good
woman. Rather than occupy the role of a physical lover, Mina is a maternal figure,
nurturing all her friends with an innate and instinctive tenderness. To the bereaved
Lord Arthur Godalming she opens her arms unthinkingly (275), resting his head
on her shoulder as though it were that of a baby that some day may lie on my
bosom (275). Despite this simile endowing Mina with power over Godalming it is
an acceptable power for a woman to have, that possessed by mothers over their
babes, rather than that by dominatrices over their victims. At the same time as
being femininely caring, she is also intelligent and sensible, perceived as typically
masculine qualities by the Victorians. Described by Van Helsing on more than one
occasion of having a man s brain (281, 404) while also having a woman s heart
(281), Mina is rendered virtually void of any sexual desire or attraction. Her
womanliness centres on gentle compassion and the manliness of her mind ensures
she is too sensible to give in to any subconscious eroticism. She alone of the novel s
female characters survives, and ends happily married with one son.
Unfortately, Mina s friend Miss Lucy Westenra shares none of the former s

Tension and Suspense the Novel and the Opening Scene of the Film Jaws
Peter Benchley wrote Jaws the novel before it was made into a film directed by
Steven Spielberg. Jaws is a thriller with the main aim being to build up suspense and
tension. In the novel Peter Benchley uses many variations of language techniques to
emphasise important points that build up suspense. He also uses sentence and
paragraph structure to affect the reader in many different ways. Steven Spielberg on
the other hand uses different camera angles and shots alongside lighting effects to

The tempo and volume gradually increase with the intention of raising the viewer s
heartbeat. This increase also gives the effect that whatever is moving through the
water is getting closer and speeding up. Then all of a sudden a dramatic picture,
from the shark s eye view appears, creeping through the weeds on the seabed. The
camera angle is very effective, as the audience moves through the weeds with the
shark. The dimly lit darkness of deep underwater which creates an unclear picture has
the effect of making the audience anxious as nobody knows what the shark is about
to find.
The instant that the picture appears, an abrupt increase in the tempo and the volume
of the music makes the viewer s heart leap. Amounting tension causes an adrenaline

something will happen but does not know when. When the music comes to a climax

There was technology before the invention of the microscope in 1590, like the
spectacles or the glasses, that uses lenses. There was the reading stone that helped
people read reading material in the 2nd century. There are also the spectacles also
known as glasses that are still used today. The first spectacle was invented by an
Italian named Salvino D Armate. The spectacle was a major invention that helped

10. The Differences Between Beowulf And Faustus
There are two stories which one can analyze and put into comparison, that being
the stories of the mighty Beowulf and that of the arrogant Doctor Faustus. In
Beowulf a story is told from the view of a warrior becoming a hero and displaying
amazing feats. While in Christopher Marlowe Doctor Faustus , he is recognized as
an ambitious self centered individual with an eager sensation to learn more
knowledge of the Arts. He decided to takes his learning a step further and ultimately
becomes his main wrongdoing for his entire life. By reviewing the text of both tales,
there are a set of both similarities and differences able to be made between Beowulf
and Faustus. In the story, Beowulf , he is faced with multiple monsters that have
endangered the lives of nearby villages. Beowulf being the vigilant strong warrior
is brave enough to face these monstrosities in combat. His extraordinary strength
allows him to take on such feats and come out victorious as a champion. Beowulf
is presented with a warrior like virtues that make him a preeminent figure in the
perspective of the people of Hrothgar, because of his actions he s seen with the
traits of a noble warrior, which consist of bravery, generosity, and heroism. These
trait are very popular and have shown to be unique when it comes to being a great
leader. While in, Christopher Marlowe, Doctor Faustus , a significant difference that
is shown between the two is that Doctor Faustus is not perceived as a warrior or a

The establishment of Black Greek lettered organizations is an important cornerstone
for the solidarity of black people. As many others are concerned, Alpha Phi Alpha
Fraternity, Inc. was the first Black fraternal group, but on the contrary there were
several other attempts to begin like organizations. Unfortunately, it was so that the
due to the overwhelming stress of racism that these organizations were not allowed
to thrive. In particular, the chapter goes in to semi significant depth about the
infrastructure of the Masons secret society. Originally, the Masons were
legitimately a group of stonemasons during the fourteenth century. They would
form lodges located in different regions in which the members would seek
membership. This idea runs parallel to present day Black Greek lettered
organization as there are chapters at different universities where an upstanding
gentleman would seek membership. Also, the behavior of developing code
language and grips to identify true members of the organization was also adopted
from Masonic tradition. Where the Masons enter the conversation of Black
fraternal orders is in 1787 when the first all black lodge was founded. Arguably,
these lodges of Free Masons is the true beginning of Black fraternities. Another noted
organization that may be credited as an earlier Black Greek lettered organization is
Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. It is more commonly noted that this organization
was founded on January 5, 1911, however, it is revealed
12. The Revelation Of Jesus Christ
There is always someone who choose to deny the revelation of Jesus Christ. In this
investigation, it will be looked at how Jesus proved himself to the naysayers of his
time. This will be accomplished by looking at several different factors that include
topics of was Jesus mentally ill when he claimed to be God? How did Jesusprove that
he was not only talking the talk but he was also walking the walk? This was done
the evidence of the actions he performed. Finally, an evaluation will be done to
prove that when an individual has a revelation of Jesus they are also seeing the
image of God.
There could be several explanations to how Jesus considered himself to be God.
According to the article beyond blind faith, Another possibility is that Jesus was
sincere but self deceived. We have a name for a person today who thinks he is God.
Mentally disabled. But as we look at the life of Christ, we see no evidence of the
abnormality and imbalance we find in a mentally ill person. Rather, we find the
greatest composure under pressure (Little, 1988).
There was no evidence of Christ being unstable in any way. To the contrary, he was
an image of stability and steadfastness. From one point of view, however, claims
don t mean much. Talk is cheap. Anyone can make claims. There have been others
who have claimed to be God. I could claim to be God, and you could claim to be
God, but the question all of us must answer is, What credentials do we bring to

An operating system is a system software that manages and control all interaction
between a computer hardware and software. There are several types of operating
systems, for example, multi user, multitasking, single user and more. The first
ever created OS date back in the 50 s. As computer and technology progress over
time operating system kept evolving. Among the commonly used operating
systems of today is Linux, a Unix like type of OS. Linux creation begins in 1991 as
a software kernel and part of a small project developed by Linus Torvalds, a student
from a University in Finland. Under GNU (general public license), the software
was available as a free and open source and gave everyone the right to access,
change and modify its original design. Because of the way it is designed it can run
on multiple platforms such has Intel, Alpha and more. Like many open systems,
Compared to more expensive operating systems, Linux was an economical
alternative for cost conscious companies that needed to quickly create Web based
applications. When more developers are able to provide input about a system, it
becomes easier to fix flaws and bugs that hinder performance; roll out improvements;
increase the speed of system evolution; and combine an application s components in
new and exciting ways not intended by the original developer. (Ecommerce) Linux
has three major components the kernel, the system library and the system utility.

15. Olfaction And Brain Analysis
Olfaction is, by definition, the sense of smell. Olfaction and gustation, the sense of
taste, are closely related and complement each other. Because olfaction is controlled
by the limbic system in the brain it can invoke feelings, memories, and other
sensations. Although it is a primitive sense, and one needed for survival, it is
incredibly complex. For example, the brain analyzes over 300 odor molecules to
identify the smell of a rose. When humans smell things, there is a process in which
the brain interprets the molecules in order to understand what is being sensed. First,
vaporized odor particles, or chemicals, reach the nostrils and dissolve in the mucus
that lines each nostril and the olfactory hairs (cilia). Just the structure... Show more

There are 10,000 tastebuds on the surface of the tongue, cheeks, and soft palate
that help humans take in stimuli about what they are eating. These tastebuds are
responsible for interpreting six different types of information on food: sweet, sour,
salty, bitter, and savory (umami). Sweet food is an indication that the food is high
in sugar and its derivatives fructose or lactose. Sour food is mostly acidic and
includes things like lemon juice or organic acids. This sensation is caused by
hydrogen ions. Food containing table salt is perceived as salty, but presence of
potassium or magnesium can also cause a salty sensation. A bitter taste is a
response from the body that the food being consumed is poisonous and dangerous to
survival. Most bitter tastes come from poisonous plant roots. Lastly, the savory taste,
or umami taste, comes from amino acids such as glutamic acid or aspartic acid. High
amounts of glumatic acid can be found in cheese, ripe tomatoes, and meat. ( How

Queen Elizabeth I s Rule Affects Theatre
In an era of cock fighting and public executions, theater was a well enjoyed event in
Elizabethan social life. During her 45 year reign, gaining the throne in 1558,

17. Renewable Is Sustainable For Renewable Energy
Renewable is Sustainable
Soon, planet Earth will run out of the resource that once was thought to be reliable.
Earth is in great danger of self destructing if there is no backup plan. This is where
renewable resources come in. Renewable resources are abundant and do not damage
the environment, so they are a sustainable method to produce energy. The options for
renewable energy are solar, wind, hydro, biomass, and geothermal.
Why should Earth abandon the systems that they have in place at the moment? The
reason behind adopting renewable energy is because the system that is in place
today is unsustainable. It is unsustainable for many reasons. Fossil fuels, which
include coal, oil, and natural gas, are the main source of energy in today s world, but
bring a wide variety of adverse effects (Cooper, Renewable Energy).
Burning these fossil fuels releases harmful pollutants into the environment, with the
main one being carbon dioxide. The release of carbon dioxide is the primary cause of
global warming, which in itself is a serious threat to Earth. Along with causing global
warming, the release of carbon dioxide leads to air pollution. Air pollution is
dangerous to the various ecosystems of Earth, and also to humans.
One of the major reasons that it is unsustainable, other than it slowly killing the Earth,
is that it is not infinitely available. Fossil fuels are not abundant, and soon will be
completely depleted. With the demand increasing and the supply

personal health and performance. These types of fluctuating work hours are often
referred to as shift work, which is defined by Berger and Hobbs (2006) as shifts
taking place aside from the traditional daytime hours (p. 465). Typical hospital shifts

morbidity and mortality among children between the ages of 12 and 18 years
(Patnode et al, 2014). Even when used infrequently, the risks for serious adverse
effects increase due to behaviors of those intoxicated or impaired. There are numerous
reasons as to why adolescents choose to experiment with various substances,
including family structure, media exposure, socioeconomic status, or simply the
desire to fit in. Whatever the cause is for each adolescent, it is important to apply
early intervention and prevention in order to avoid the need for further specialized
treatment for substance abuse.
Family Structure and Adolescent Drug Use In 2009, Vanessa Hemovich and William
D. Crano from the Department of Psychology at Claremont Graduate University
analyzed data from the Monitoring the Future 2004 survey, which examined inhalant
inappropriate use of a legal drug and marijuana and amphetamine illegal substances
use among 37,507 8th to 12th grade adolescents in schools across the United States.
They hypothesized that older adolescents and those living in single parent households
will report higher levels of drug use than their younger counterparts and peers living
in households with both parents. They also predicted that children
22. The Master Of Suspense And Alfred Hitchcock
Brian De Palma, Sam Raimi, George A. Romero, Dario Argento, William Friedkin,
David Cronenberg, Quentin Tarantino, and Steven Spielberg all have two attributes
in common; the tactful use of suspense and Alfred Hitchcock. Each person in the
list above has, at one point, named Alfred Hitchcock as an influence for their works
(IMDb). Hitchcock has been known as, the master of suspense, throughout his
career and it shows, not only in the movies that he directed personally, but in the
movies of the other directors and producers who aspire to compare to him.
Hitchcock s auteur, or reoccurring themes within movies that can be traced back to a
director s life and personality to identify parts of him within his own movies include
themes such as: an icy blonde female character, personal disabilities and phobias of
the main (male) lead, the use of sound studios rather than a natural setting, and a
theme of mommy issues associated with the main character.
To further look into the auteur of Alfred Hitchcockwe must focus on a couple of
specific movies and we must know a little bit more about Hitchcock s life. The
movies, Vertigo and Rear Window are both the works of Hitchcock, and can both be
evaluated in order to find some reoccurring themes associated with this master of
suspense. Often, the first theme noticed about these movies is the dark plot and, you
guessed it, suspense. In Vertigo the movie begins with a literal cliffhanger, the main
character is left dangling off

Eq 1 shows equations of an usual RNN. Here xt is the current input and htв€’1 is
the previous RNN state. U and V are the network parameters associated with xt and
htв€’1 respectively. П† is a nonlinear function which we can choose from several
alternatives. Some common choices are sigmoid, ReLu, tanh etc. Two of most
important differences between RNN and feed forward neural networks are time
ordered input and network parameter sharing. We can see from figure 3 that input is
feeding to the network in different time steps, not at once like feed forward case.
However the parameters the network learns throughout different time steps are same.
At any time step the network process current input along with whatever previously

Sometimes a memory from long past could be useful for current prediction than a
memory from recent past. Another problem which makes training an RNN
problematic is known as vanishing gradient problem ??. Since network parameters
of an RNN are shared over time, at any time step error derivative not only depends
on the current input of network but also on the previous state of the network. So
there is a multiplicative term of error derivatives back to time step 0 to calculate
error derivative of current time. This is a modification of back propagation
algorithm and known as back propagation through time (BPTT) ??. If individual
gradients are close to zero this multiplicative term would become very close to zero
and eventually gradients disappear. The opposite can also happen which is called
exploding gradient problem, however this is more obvious and easy to detect.
Vanishing gradient problem is not easy to detect and serves as a silent killer to the
network. Several approaches have been adopted to deal with vanishing gradient
problem. Some of them are to careful initialization of network parameters, early
stopping etc. But most effective solution was to modify the RNN architecture so that
it has its own
24. The Voodoo Of Voodoo Dolls
It is easy to look back at history and see a clear pattern and relation between
different cultures, objects, rituals, etc. When you take a deeper look into origins,
you ll often be surprised by what you find. Minkondi (plural for nkondi), are
sculptures made and used in the 19th century by African cultures. They served a
very specific purpose and had a very sacred importance. The Nkisi Nkondi
functioned as a hunter healer of conflicts. The people would take their worries,
requests and fears to the figure to call on the spirits. Voodoo dollson the other hand,
are often misunderstood and misrepresented. The Voodoo dollis a ritualized way of
calling on spirits to target a specific person. The dollcan be used a number of things
including luck, power, love and most commonly recognized, for evil and harm.
The Nkisi Nkondi sculptures and Voodoo dolls, even though they are from
different cultures and time periods, have a number of similarities and one may
have influenced the creation of the other. Nkisi refers to the spiritual being of the
figure, and nkondi comes from the word konda, which means to hunt, refers to the
figure itself. Minkondi, representative of hunters, can catch those who undermine
the frame of society. The Nkisi Nkondi is typically shaped in a human form. There
are few Nkisi Nkondi that are shaped like dogs, which were seen as sacred animals.
The Nkisi Nkondi weren t literal representations of the spirits that they called on. The

ABSTRACT
Designing and embedding a watermark for VoIP is the main goal of this paper, A
new model is introduced and characterized by high robustness, high security and must
be non perceptual. The watermarking model is suitable for real time service and
supports the needs of embedding the watermark into the traffic of VoIP and its
extraction additionally this model offers authentication and integrity. The model
based on digital watermarking and steganography. Another factor was taken in
consideration; the amount of data used and its influence on the voice quality of
service. the model is implemented using C# code for both embedding and extracting
the watermarking spite of the intended cheating mechanisms that might complicate
the send/receive conditions. In addition, the model performance has confirmed its
robustness and quality of service.

In TCP/IP networks VoIP, which is a real time service, uses RTP (Real Time Protocol)

is one control protocol for RTP and it is RTCP (Real Time Control Protocol) [1].

26. The Great Awakening By Christine Leigh Heyrman
The Great Awakening
A restructuring of religious doctrine, beliefs, and social practices during the 17th and
18th centuries in England, and in North America, infused with Calvinistic religious
doctrine initiated the beginning of The Great Awakening. Following this further,
according to Christine Leigh Heyrman, The First Great Awakening: Divining
America, a New Age of faith rose to counter the currents of the Age of Enlightenment.
Ultimately reaffirming the view that being truly religious meant trusting the heart
rather than the head, prizing feeling more than thinking, and relying on biblical
revelation rather than human reason. After a while, several religious revivals sprung
forth appeasing the colonists in America desire for a deep and significant personal
relationship with God. Thus, this dogma spread to other denominations throughout
the colonies in America (Heyrman). As a result, The Great Awakening spread
throughout the middle colonies in America by notable revivalist preachers instituting
moderate Calvinistic doctrinal theology especially for the Presbyterians and the
Congregationalists, and opened the door to unprecedented world societal changes.
Whether answering a call from God or by invitation, Theodorus Jacobus
Frelinghuysen came to America to minister to the Dutch population. Frelinghuysen
had acquired many of the theological leanings of a confessional pietist, among which
was a view of conversion. Although never officially systematized, confessional

27. Cults And Its Effects On Society
Cults have been around since the 1930 s and are becoming well known around the
world. Although awareness has been spread out about the serious consequences
joining a cult may have on a person s life, individuals continue falling pray into cultic
groups and remain an active part; the result of joining is decades being brainwashed
into believing only the members hold the truth /enlighten by already brainwashed,
devoted members and their prophet . The majorities of individuals in a cultlive under
cruel, almost inhumane, conditions and are treated awfully. The members have been
stripped from interacting with family members/friends, freedom on speech, nutrients,
money, and the right to think for one s self. Probably the worst punishment... Show

Normally in cultic groups, it is prohibited to assimilate with non members. If those
whom are caught breaking this rule, her or she will suffer serious consequences
such as beating, public humiliation, and starvation. Another characteristic shared
among this group is the zero tolerance of priest, rabbis, or ministers berating
/ harassing their congregations with hate speeches towards anyone with the intent
of causing harm to another person. If a priest happens to encounter someone
problematic, it is encouraged to pray for his or her salvation. Also related to the
priest, he will not restrict couples from a normal sex life; instead, priest will
promote self respecting boundaries for couples in and out marriages. Usually in
terror groups, the priest controls all sexual activity among individuals and frequently
demands members to use his or her sexual appeal to lure new recruits. This method
of recruitment often leads marriages to end. Correlating with normal characteristic
presented in a group, it is imperative to take a carful look at the movement s leader
and examine if he or she presents good leadership qualities that will make the whole
groups successful not just them. As presented in Olsson s (2013) journal Normal
Compared to Abnormal Leaders and Groups, a good leader obtain four necessary
qualities: knowledge, honesty, narcissism, and communication skills. Leaders should

31. Research Paper On Beatrix Potter
150 years ago, Helen (Beatrix) Potter, one of best known children s author, was born
July 28th, 1866 in London, England. Both of her parents were interested in art and as
a result, Helen had the opportunity to meet other important artists. During her early
childhood, she and her brother were fascinated by things in nature and sketching
animals was one of her favorite things to do. As she grew up, she studied at the
National Art Training School in the late 1870s to help with her develop her talents.
Beatrix Potterfound other ways of producing her illustrations other than books. She
found some success by selling her illustration to be used to produce greeting cards.
She also had drawings and paintings featured in many museums such as the Victoria

Thus one may argue that it is the contribution pattern of core participants and not all
contributors that matters for the project. However, success of FLOSS projects is
driven by masses and not individuals where each contributor has a unique role to
serve. For instance, approximately 70% of contributors in FLOSS projects are one
time contributors. However, their presence ensures popularity and interest in project,
and is appreciated. So if contributors cease to file issues it is an indicator of
decreasing popularity and influences the age of project. With decreasing contribution
the project diminishes and slowly dies out.
In this study we assume absence of activities in three months as an indicator of
contributors leaving the project. This assumption is localized. For instance, an owner
who stop participating for three months indicates that the contributor has left the
project while a reporter may continue participation even after a year. However, for
planning this assumption holds as it indicates the trend of participation. Also the
data available in ITS may not answer all RQs that are of relevance to decision
makers. However, it gives justifiable understanding of stability of the project in a data
driven and objective manner.
Another extension of this work will be to study environmental factors that influences
stability of project by examining contributor participation patterns. We present study
on trends of participation, however inclusion of factors
34. Rise Of Xenophobia In Europe
One of the biggest issues that must be taken into account is dealing with the rise of
xenophobia all over Europe. The meaning of the term xenophobia is fear of foreign
people which is mostly expressed in views that see foreigners as invasive elements
into an established society and cultural environment. Jorge Jesus in his analysis about
xenophobia in Europewrote that the new strain of xenophobia in Europe is based on
simple misconceptions, and can be dealt with by clear communication both by the
politicians and by the media. He claims that the new strain of xenophobia in Europe
is based on three misconceptions: misconception about refugees who are seen as
immigrants, misconception about Islam, and misconception about Asylum system.
First, the rise of xenophobia is related with the misconception of the refugees who are
seen as immigrants . Partially guilty for this are politicians and the media, because
they introduced this term to the citizens. European citizens started being xenophobic
because they see immigrants as a threat, as ones who will take their jobs and use the
benefits from their countries. According to him: ... Show more content on

35. Living On Campus Vs College Essay
One of the biggest choices a student who has graduated high school and is ready to
enroll in college must make is whether they should go away to school or live at
home and drive to classes. Everyone has a different opinion on this decision, and it is
based on the diverse lifestyles that people live. Most students who commute to school
are told that they are not having the full collegeexperience since they do not live on
campus and spend more time at home. On the other hand, those who live on campus
are told that they are wasting their money and they will not be giving the proper
focus to their studies. Both sides of the argument have positives and negatives, so it
is difficult to determine which one is the best for their individual life style.
Commutingto school and living on campus have several similarities and differences
they share, such as social, individual, and economical effects. College is the place
where most students meet their lifelong friends and even their future spouses, so the
social impact on each individual is tremendous. Some students, both commuters and
those who stay on campus, choose to isolate themselves from others and do not
attempt to be involved on campus or make any friends. This is a personal decision
that the individual could make in either living situation since the same opportunities
are available for all students. Even with the equal opportunity to make friends,
commuters are less likely to be involved in campus activities and only talk

Lab Report #1: Hand washing is it worth it?
Introduction:
This experiment illustrates the importance of handwashing and proves that hand
washing is worth it. Since our hands are constantly coming into contact with
ourselves and others, touching surfaces, grabbing objects, being sneezed into, etc.,
keeping our hands clean is one of the most effective, yet simple way we can take to
avoid getting sick and spreading germs to others. Many diseases and conditions are
spread by not washing hands with soap and clean, running warm water. The human
skin is a host to anywhere between 10,000 10,000,000 bacteria per square centimeter
and since health care providers come into contact with pathogenic bacteria by being
engaged in patient care, hand washing can reduce the risk of spreading diseases (page

that its citizens are healthy and able to provide to the workforce, and therefore the
well being of the country as a whole? As a part of a social welfare system that
advocates for the well being of the individual, social workers must also look at the
policies in place to address the physical, emotional, and psychological well being of
the population they serve. Social workers must also assess whether the policies that
are enacted follow the values that have been instilled for the betterment of the
community. In order to advocate for their clients, a social worker must be
knowledgeable about the additional policies in place that were noted as resolutions to
the issue. Do individuals have access to better cancer diagnosis options and treatment

Assessment
For a social worker using the behavior modification model the client system is
emphasized. Behavioral modification in general concentrates on the client s identified
behaviors that are of interest to change. The mezzo system is an area of focus seeing
that the targeted behavior could be a response to the environment and other
surroundings. The immediate conditions (reinforcements in the environment)
contribute to the current situation (maladaptive behavior). If the behavior is
abnormal and is negatively effecting client functioning it is important to further
explore. Although, past history can play a part in determining current factors
involved in the behavior (Behavior Modification, n.d.). As mentioned previously
client functioning is of concern for behavior modification during assessment.
Additionally, client functioning in context or clients functioning in each situation is
another area of focus. When does, the targeted behavior occur and when does it not
is of interest when beginning the assessment. Along with that the social worker is
curious to know if there is a specific pattern that is tied to the behavior. Within each
environment, how the client behaves and how the client is influenced is a
emphasized during assessment. A detailed data collection of the behavior is needed,
such as frequency, duration, and intensity (Sheafor Horejsi, 2012). To do this the
social worker could use self reports, role playing, and information from family and
friends

Tolkien was among the young men that struggled for survival in the damp and

after losing two of his closest friends, suffering from trench fever, and struggling to

just as it did many other WWI writers, such as Ernest Hemingway and Robert

similar physical tribulations such as horrid sights of rotting corpses, as well as
emotional struggles, such as feelings of despair, similar to the soldiers of World War

42. Taylor Mountain Regional Park Topographic Analysis
Topographic Assessment of Taylor Mountain Regional Park The purpose of this
assessment is to understand all topographic factors concerning the past, present,
and future of Taylor Mountain Regional Park. The site is 4 acres in size and is
located in Taylor Mountain Regional Park and Open Space Preserve. The
coordinates of the site, according to the USGS 1954 Santa Rosa Quadrangle Map,
are N 38 degrees 24 minutes and 30 seconds, W 122 degrees 41 minutes and 25
seconds (Figure 2). The entrance to the site is located at the 1900 section of Kawana
Terrace, adjacent to the private continuation of Kawana Terrace in Santa Rosa

Through the northwestern portion of the site a manmade walking path has been
established for recreation purposes adjacent to the lowest point of the meadow.
Despite there being a drainage culvert for carrying rainwater under the pathway,
there is noticeable erosion of the path itself, suggesting that with ample rainfall
such a culvert is insufficient, allowing rainwater to flow up and over the path
(Figure 8). This also draws into question the stability of the local area in terms of
landslides and mass wasting. Because the slope is greater than 25% it is very
likely that mass wasting occurs in the area. Slopes in the surrounding area are not
steep enough for rock falls but with consistent heavy rainfall a mudslide of clay
and rock is possible, which could threaten recreational users of the park. Because
Taylor Mountain is a public open space preserve there is cause for concern when
designing/building structures associated with recreational use. Precautions must
be taken when building to avoid hazards of mass wasting and erosion. However,
due to the nature of the preserve it is highly unlikely that any type of large
structure or septic system would be permitted. Noise pollution in this area is very
mild with only the occasional truck being heard on the 101 highway to the west.
Unfortunately, a new fire station is to be built within .6 miles and some local fauna
may become disturbed by the wail of sirens. Be advised that a sound barrier should
be constructed around the fire station in order to minimize disturbance of wildlife.
One important note is that it was recommended in a biotic assessment that, one of
the proposed trails be removed from the plan (on Taylor Mountain) to avoid impacts
to deer in the oak woodland, and that another be realigned to avoid wetlands
(Waaland, pg.1). In doing so further disruption of wildlife habitat can be
43. Essay about High School Cliques
High School Cliques High school cliques are typical during teenage years, giving
members a feeling of acceptance and belonging. But I believe that cliques
conversely damage a teen s self esteem. The high school should get involved in
helping all students feel more socially included . How can a student feel like they
socially fit in? It is the responsibility of the high schoolto create an atmosphere for
the student body which promotes acceptance and inclusion of other kids, allowing
kids to feel like they belong. Cliques tend to be exclusive, only accepting those who
are similar to them such as their interest in sports, after school activities, hobbies, or
even by appearance and other superficial things. They also tend to leave... Show more

Another problem with high school cliques is that kids in them feel superior to
some of the student who have trouble socially or are reluctant to be in a social
situation. For example, a student transfers to new school and doesn t know anyone.
The cliques seem to feel superior because they already have an established group of
friends, while the newcomer is still struggling. This would be a great opportunity for
the high school counselor or the teachers to help students feel included in the high
school social scene by introducing them to kind and friendly students. Cliques
tend to have the same ideas or follow the same opinions on different topics. They
usually think alike. When someone new enters the picture, they may have new
ideas and opinions that may clash with the existing group. Their solution is to
exclude that particular person, in order to keep their social circle normal in their
minds, so they don t have to change their thinking. If students only spend time with
others who are like them racially, socially, or otherwise they may never learn how
to live and work with people who are different. (Kay Herting Wahl, a University of
Minnesota assistant professor of educational psychology) Cliques are so exclusive
in this generation and kids are only associating with other very similar to themselves.
This does not allow them to explore different people from different experiences or life
44. Summary Of Sudhir Venkatesh s Gang Leader For A Day
In chapter 2 of Sudhir Venkatesh s Gang Leader for a Day, Venkatesh spends time
with a Chicago drug kingpin nick named J.T. During his time spent with this kingpin,
Venkatesh explores the troubled projects of Chicago such as the Robert Taylor
complex and begins to learn the inner operations of the kingpins business. He learned
that J.T ran the central operations of these miniature complexes and ran his illicit
business like a legitimate corporation with an established hierarchy. He also learned
that these apartment complexes were often united through the community being so
knit close together, with all of them being understandable towards J.T illicit
operations and each other s vices. This can be noted through the estimation that 15

The book is a perfect example of how the American dream creates an ideal reality
but cannot successfully compensate to fulfill its fantasy. In part, this is because of
the lack of government funding to these areas, as noted that A staggering 90 percent
of the adults in Robert Taylor reported welfare cash disbursements, food stamps, and
Medicaid as their sole form of support, (Venkatesh). This implicit problem is noted in
the system, that is, the industrial prison complex that the American government
allows to operate. Essentially, the prison model follows a capitalist complex that
allows for profit systems that entraps low income Americans and enforces them to
buy expensive bonds or lawyers to escape harsh penalties for petty crimes. If the
victim does not take a loan from an expensive bondsman or pay an expensive lawyer,
then the victim will pay through served time and a record which will prohibit them
from obtaining most jobs, forcing these victims to receive government disbursements
and to supplement their income with petty crime, effectively repeating the process.
From a functionalist perspective, this is not what creates a stable society, and is the
opposite of what America should be doing to create a stable, overall, structural
society. Entrapping the lower class does nothing for social stability, and the prison
complex is a latent function that needs

An Examination of Life is Beautiful and The Boy in the Striped Pajamas When
watching historical fiction, there are certain features that will grab the attention of
viewers and critics to show whether it is worthy of praise: a plot that grabs and holds
attention, characters that have depth and are relatable, and a strategic use of humor
to keep it from straying into a documentary. The Boy in the Striped Pajamas, has a
choppy but haunting plotwith shallow characters by design, and attracted favorable
reviews from critics and fans alike. Also a historical fictionalization of the

As the movie opens Bruno is playing in the streets of Berlin as he returns home to
find his families belongings being packed away and is told his father, a soldier,
has been promoted and the family will be moving with him to his new job in the
countryside. After hurting himself at his new abode and being tended to by Pavel
(who he believes to be a farmer), he learns that he used to be a doctor, and makes
the assumption he chose to become a farmer because he was bad at it. When Bruno
sneaks off to adventure he finds the farm that he can see from his window. He meets
a boy, Shmuel, who he forms a tentative friendship with, that is until Bruno is left
unsheltered with his tutor and exposed to tremendous amounts of propaganda and
the camp is not a farm, but for Jews. When Shmuel worked in the home, Bruno gave
him food, but when he caught talking to him he blames Shmuel who is then beaten.
Soon after, Bruno s Mother finds out from a soldier that the propaganda about the
camps is fake, and the heavy smoke near their house is from the mass cremation of
dead Jews. When she mentally deteriorates after learning what her husband does is
one of the few glimpses into her or anyone else s personality. An unspecified amount

46. Southern Hip Hop Culture
What do you think when you hear Southern hip hop, maybe its Atlanta and the great
Hip Hop artist it has created or Houston with their new wave of artists who are
climbing the billboard charts? Whatever you re answer is to this question, there is no
question that within the Hip hop Community no other segment of the united states
contributes more to the culture than the south! Southern hip hop contributes to hip
hop culture through the influences it has on popular dances, the development of their
own sound and most importantly southern hip hop influences the youth in the united
states. Dancing and Hip Hop are nearly synonymous since the very beginning of hip
hop dancing was an integral part, and the youth in the Bronx area who helped create
hip hop culture valued it highly. As the author of hip hop culture Emmett George

Bronx during the 60 s and 70 s proved fertile grounds for the birth of the
revolutionary cultural movement named hip hop . Hip hop allowed the youth in the

47. Biblical Flood Story Vs. Gilgamesh Flood
Biblical Flood Story versus Gilgamesh Flood Story The Biblical Flood story and
the Gilgamesh Flood story include similarities and differences. There are two
versions we know of the flood story in Babylonian literature, and both have
different hero s in each, although the cause of each flood is different. I will prove
that I understand the task at hand by reading both of the stories, and taking it apart
piece by piece to understand it in a whole. By doing this, I am able to know what I
am reading and what the reading is trying to say. I will show how to sum up the
ideology of the flood in the different versions and understand how the biblical story
has transformed the Gilgamesh myth in meaningful ways. Stephanie Dalley
enlightens that, The Epic of Gilgameshis the longest and greatest literary
composition written in cuneiform Akkadian (39). It is an epic poem from ancient
Mesopotamia (2100 BC). Many scholars believe that the flood myth was added to
the Tablet XI, which was created in the 7th century BCE. This literary composition
is considered an epic because of the features that the heroic figure carries. The Epic
is about a heroic quest for the fame and immortality, pursued by a man who has an
enormous capacity for friendship, for endurance and adventure, for joy and sorrow,
a man of strength, and weakness who loses a unique opportunity the epic provides
for tracing earlier, independent folk tales... (Dalley 39). It was not clear for awhile if

their journey to Canterbury to the shrine of Thomas a Becket. These pilgrims
include a Knight, his son the Squire, the Knight s Yeoman, a Prioress, a Second
Nun, a Monk, a Friar, a Merchant, a Clerk, a Man of Law, a Franklin, a Weaver, a

a Parson, a Miller, a Manciple, a Reeve, a Summoner, a Pardoner, the Wife of Bath,

During their battle, Arcite indeed is victorious, but as soon as he is crowned victor,
an earthquake occurs that kills him. Before he dies, he reconciles with Palamon and

When the Knight finishes his tale, everybody is pleased with its honorable

Tale is a comic table in which Nicholas, a student who lives with John the carpenter
and his much younger wife, Alison, begins an affair with Alison. Another man, the
courtly romantic Absolon, also falls in love with Alison. Nicholas contrives to
spend a day with Alison by telling John that a flood equal to Noah s flood will

staying in separate kneading tubs placed on the roof of houses, out of sight of all.
While John remained in this kneading tub, Nicholas and Alison left to have sex,
but were interrupted by Absolon, who demanded a kiss from Alison. She told him
to close his eyes and he would receive a kiss. He did so, and she pulled down her
pants so that he could kiss her nether region. The humiliated Absolon got a hot iron

and Absolon burned him on the ass. Nicholas shouted for water, awakening John,

49. Literary Analysis Of The Hot Zone By Ebola
The Hot Zone is all about the events that surrounded the outbreak of Ebola that
occurred in the 1980s. The story begins when some personnel affiliated with a
laboratory facility that conducts tests on monkeys mishandle the virus, in the process
causing risk to the general population. In the process of containing the disease,
Preston indulges in past similar knowledges in the wake of significant health risk. He
(Preston) has adopted the tone of viral panic, vulnerability and regret to express the
unimaginable suffering of victims that were directly and indirectly affected by Ebola.
The book revolves around a couple of scientists and medical practitioners who
reflect a vast experience in hot agents. It was set in the 1980s and uses the point of
view of the main character called Preston to describe the death and exposure of an
expatriate from France called Monet Charles. In his tone he expressed the prevalent
themes that came out of the storyline which is tortures of the victims, death and the
human fear attached to it. As a matter of fact, the appeal and the power of the
literature are derived from the fear and suspense that the readers evoke as they read
through. The gory and horrific demise of Charles Monet, Peter Cardinal, and Nurse
Mayinga exposes the audience to the edge with respect to the dread and anticipation
of what will ensue in the case that the virus spreads to the general population.
The tone of viral panic and regret are supported by the dominant feeling of
50. Henry Viii Influence
Literature has become the most important factor in the construction of the English
monarchy. It has become the way in which people communicate and share their
ideas throughout the world. English literature is the essential piece in ruling a
country and determining the future for that country. In England, English literature
has evolved through a number of versions due to the changes made to the policies
and laws, religion, culture, and the monarchy. Henry VIII was born on June 28,
1491 by Elizabeth of York and Henry VII at Greenwich Palace (BBC News). In his
early age, he was very interested in the arts and enjoyed reading literature. In 1509,
Henry VIII succeeded his father Henry VII (1457 1509), but had originally become
heir to the throne after his older brother, Prince Arthur, died in 1502 (Henry VIII
(r.1509 1547)). He reigned during the House of Tudor monarchy when he was only
eighteen years old until he died in 1547, having Edward VI succeed him. Throughout
his years of reign, he married six women including: Catherine of Aragon, Anne
Boleyn, Jane Seymour, Anne of Cleves, Catherine Howard, and Catherine Parr. In
1527, Henry divorced Catherine of Aragon, since she could no longer conceive
children, and became infatuated with Anne Boleyn (Henry s Divorce). This decision
led to the English Protestant Reformation which were a series of events...[in] which
the Church of England broke away from the authority of the Pope and the Roman
Catholic Church (English Reformation).
51. Differenc Lindemann s Feminist Analysis
Lindemann begins with a discussion of what feminism is. She considers two kinds of
definitions that are commonly given of the concept, and ultimately rejects both of
them in favor of a third. First, she notes that many people take it that feminism is a
пїЅmovement that aims to make women the social equals of men.пїЅ Lindemann
thinks that this understanding of feminismis defective in a variety of ways. First, it
treats men and women in abstraction, which is problematic. Secondly, the definition
itself treats men as a standard by which women need to measure themselves. One
attempt to avoid these difficulties is by attending directly to women. It is difficult,
though, to explain exactly what it is that makes one a пїЅwoman.пїЅ Gender, after all,
is not a biological property. If one explains being a woman simply in terms of being
different in certain aspects from a man, then one has still grounded feminism by
reference to men. If, on the other hand, one attempts to ground a feminist framework
on the positive differences between men and women, then a separate problem arises:

Gender, Lindemann argues, is primarily normative; it yields prescriptions for how
one ought to behave, and it does so through a variety of channels. Importantly, gender
operates simultaneously alongside other power relations in order to yield what is a
fairly complex final power distribution. Lindemann indentifies the feminist project as
one that attempts to пїЅunderstand, criticize, and correct how gender operates within
our moral beliefs and practices.пїЅ The domain of the feminist ethicist, as Lindemann
understands it, is the domain of power relations пїЅ both legitimate and illegitimate.
In order to properly understand the domain, the feminist ethicist is firstly concerned
with arriving at a proper description of how power differences are at work in our
lives. Following this, she is able to make normative claims in light of the descriptive
