The document discusses various aspects of communication including verbal and non-verbal communication, listening skills, barriers to communication, empathy vs sympathy, assertiveness, body language, and conflict resolution. Communication requires a sender and receiver. It can be undermined by poor listening skills and misunderstandings. Non-verbal cues and empathy are important parts of effective communication. Conflicts should be addressed through open discussion and finding mutually agreeable solutions.

As museums adapt to an increasingly diverse society, they need methods for taking action against both individual and systemic biases. Rather than expect those who are targeted to effect change in isolation, the Ally Skills Workshop provides techniques for staff, management, and board members to join in shaping a more equitable and inclusive museum culture.
Presenter: Dr. Sheila Addison, President, Margin to Center Consulting
Conversations about conflict provide parties with the opportunity to examine their own actions and
reactions. This process of reexamination inevitably evokes people’s natural defensive mechanisms.
Defensiveness prevents people from learning and blocks the potential for transformation to occur. This
workshop will look at the internal and external causes of defensiveness, as well as ways that mediators can
intentionally work with this natural phenomena.
Being assertive is not necessarily easy, but it is a skill that can be learned.

If you’re reading this, you’re probably a designer, which means you’re more likely to express yourself visually than with words. That also means attending a writing workshop is probably not your first choice on how to spend a perfectly good lunch.
But wait! What if we told you that today's designers are destined to become web writers? True – you may not feel comfortable with words, but neither do most web audiences! These days, communicating verbally is part of the job description for all of us. Let Alice Williams show you how to communicate what your next web visitor wants to know as painlessly as possible – for both of you. Listen, have a nice lunch, make friends with fellow designers – and maybe even cozy up to words. All in all, it's not too bad for a lunch.
Connect with Alice before the event (@StratChick) and let her know what you'd like to learn about writing for the web.
AIGA Homegrown: The Secret Life of Usability SlidesAIGA Raleigh
You may have heard the term "usability" or even UX design. But what does usability really mean? Apple summed up usability requirements for its products with the term "It just works." That's how they can get away with delivering iPads without instruction manuals. It just works. Perhaps usability is at its best when it's invisible. So if you want to become a more informed web designer, or want to bolster your ability to make life easier for people, join us for this Homegrown event. Our speaker, Todd Moy, will focus on key areas where designing for human emotion can improve our user's perception of usability.
Tear Down The Walls.
Our AIGA chapter has now established a shared purpose and three areas of focus to guide board activities. We’ve shifted our mindset from a club to a community, and transformed our chapter’s touchpoints, which now serve as symbols of our open, inclusive, and focused way of working together. We’ve also produced over 50 events focused on cultivating design ability, proving design impact, and uniting people.
A few weeks ago, our chapter presented our story to leaders from 65 other chapters, at the AIGA Leadership Retreat in Salt Lake City. Here are the slides.

The Choose Respect Healthy Relationships Final Assessment includes Notes on the Materials used in the Choose Respect unit. The goal of the final task is to demonstrate understanding by answering five questions about healthy vs. unhealthy relationships. Students have a choice of presenting this information in any of the following formats:
1. A booklet ("Choose Respect")
2. An advice column ("Dear Teens"), or
3. An essay ("Healthy Relationships").
Communication is the crucial part of our life. Agile organizations and Scrum teams make interaction amoung people as one of the core principles.
The fact is that speaking the same language doesn't guarantee the understanding of each other's points. This talk shows typical communication patterns, behaviors and provides eye-opening insights into the ways communication can improved.
Getting along with people is very important for the success of any organized activity, this is particularly so because most work is accomplished by working together. Interpersonal Relations are very important in securing success and happiness, not just at the work place, but everywhere else, including our own sweet home. Ability to get along well, with people and circumstances is very important.
Embracing GenAI - A Strategic ImperativePeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.

The French Revolution, which began in 1789, was a period of radical social and political upheaval in France. It marked the decline of absolute monarchies, the rise of secular and democratic republics, and the eventual rise of Napoleon Bonaparte. This revolutionary period is crucial in understanding the transition from feudalism to modernity in Europe.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

Body language, eye contact, gestures, how close stand or sit to a person,
The way you listen affects the quality of the conversation. A person can hear . . . But not actually be listening. For example in the classroom. How much better do you do when you choose to listen?
An empathetic listener shows they understand, but do not try to put their experience on the spearker. This listener lets the speaker talk. A Sympathetic listener has to tell “their story” and is not really hearing the speaker. Have you experienced this? How does it make you feel?
Level five is the weakest level of communication. Call the cliché level because the speaker uses words with little meaning. Level Four takes very little effort from yourself. Level three willing to share, but restrict sharing your ideas until you see how the communicator reacts. Avoids in depth conversation. Level Two become open to another person. Willing to share emotions with another. Level one complete openess and honesty exists between two people.
