The Guardian Building Of Downtown Detroit
What is that strange orange brick building? Why should I care about that? That striking orange, brick
building is the Guardian Building of downtown Detroit. When deciding to go to a historical site in the
city, I was drawn in by the history of the place. I am relatively new to the city and when I heard about
this place, I knew that s where I wanted to go. When our group traveled together to the site, it became
apparent why this building is not only important to Detroit, but to all cities. The Guardian Building
was not only a great fixture of the past, but it is a leading example of the efforts to bring a city back to
greatness. The Guardian Building was founded by The Union Trust Company. Smith Hinchman and
Grylls architectural firm and designer Wirt C. Rowland were crucial to the grand design of the historic
site ( History Guardian Building ). One strong characteristic of the lobby is a grand motto made of
inlaid tile. This motto is pictured in figure 1. It upholds the ideals of the building, of the founders. It is
not just a motto of the past. It envisions a grand future for the current city of Detroit. The tiles read,
Founded on the principles of faith and understanding this building is erected for the purpose of
maintaining and continuing the ideals of financial service which prompted the organization of this
institution. This building was not some boring old bank building. It was built to be spectacular a
cathedral of finance. It was a grand part of commerce in

Why Are We Worth The Vietnam War Essay
The Vietnam war By Maxwell Warren The Vietnam War was a controversial war that many didn t
think it was worth the U.S. entering. The Vietnam war started in 1954 and went to 1975. It is known as
the United States longest war . 9,087,000 soldiers were deployed in total. A total of 58,220 U.S

climate. And to this day, it causes a disease known as Orange Fever which killed hundreds. And
hundreds of still active landmines spread all over Vietnam killing at least 100 people a year. The

Beez R Us Essay
Growth Strategy
Beez r Us as one of the successful organic honey producer in Australia, it is planning to grow its brand
by increasing the market demand. Firstly, instead of selling raw products to other honey brand, Beez r
Us can sell its branded honey directly to supermarket and food stores within Australia, therefore, they
bring more customers into the market. Secondly, Beez r Us can expend its brand to overseas, in order
to bring customers from new markets. Especially export to China, which may have a great market
opportunity since it has a great population of potential customers.
To do this, Beez r Us need to face the great competition from other honey producers. It is significant
for Beez r Us to develop its distinctive assets to compete with other companies. As an organic honey
producer, Beez r Us has obtained an organic certification for its products. Because of its unique and
natural floral on Kangaroo Island, Beez r Us can produce higher quality honey than other companies,
which can be its core competence. This is a unique asset for Beez r Us, which is hard for those large

a bigger size of honey, and people who live alone may need to buy a smaller size. Moreover, Beez r
Us can also develop a category extension. Some of the category extension has already developed by
Beez r Us such as soft toys of bees, honey flavoured ice cream and honey hand cream. The company
can increase the quantity of production of these products based on their past selling experience. This
strategy may increase the brand awareness of Beez r Us by different category users (Batra, Lenk

Conflict Management Blake and Mouton
Abstract
This study presents a review of conflict management approach. It presents the various views and
definitions on conflict types of conflict. It further looks at five conflict management styles of Blake
and Mouton. In addition, it provides some insight into conflict management from a Malaysian
perspective.
Introduction Whether conflict within an organization is viewed as desirable or not, the fact is that
conflict exists and is endemic. As human beings interact in organizations, differing values and
situations create tension. Conflict is thereby viewed as a situation in which two or more individuals
operating within a unit appear to be incompatible. When such conflict is recognized, acknowledged
and managed in a proper ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Nature of conflict
Conflict arises due to a variety of factors. Individual differences in goals, expectations, values,
proposed courses of action, and suggestions about how to best handle a situation are unavoidable.
When we add to this an amount of unease because of uncertainty as to a business s future, conflict
often increases. Perhaps this is why we see such a high amount of conflict today. Changes in
technology, global shifting of power, political unrest, and financial uncertainties are facts of life.
These factors – and others – make conflict unavoidable. To some managers, this inevitable
disharmony is lamentable and should be avoided at all costs. To others, conflict presents exciting
possibilities about the future – if managed in a positive, constructive fashion.
Traditionally, conflict within an organization has been seen as a sign of a problem. Conflict meant
there were differences of opinion, alternatives which needed to be considered, and opposing points of
view to be studied. Adaptation, accommodation and flexibility are the keys to survival in such a
situation.
Organizations are often found to be in similar precarious situations, and the same survival skills apply
in the organizational environment. Changes in personnel, clientele, product line, financial climate, and
even corporate philosophy and vision will happen. A manager needs to develop flexible new coping
skills to continue functioning in

jock... the basketcase...the rich pretty girl snob... and the future criminal in each of the characters, and
probably in you too!! Tatyana Rules and Norms I am going to be talking about rules and norms. First I
am going to talk about rules. The definition of a rule is an explicit, officially stated guideline that
governs group functions and member behavior. There are many examples of rules in the movie, but I
am going to talk about one particular incident. In beginning of movie when the students first arrive for
detention, Principal Vernon sets down the rules, what he expects them to do, and to behave under his
supervision. He does this to show that he is the one in charge and they must follow his rules or face
further Saturdays of detention. Now, I will show you this clip. Now I am going to talk about norms. A
norm is shared values, beliefs, behaviors, and procedures that govern a group s operation. I am going
to be talking about a social norm in particular. In the movie, five completely different people are stuck
in detention together. Social norms say that if they become friends over this one Saturday, they won t
stay friends once they leave dentition and will go on with their lives like nothing happened between
them. This is because their regular school friends would make fun of them because they are in
completely different social classes. Now I will show you this

Between Our Freedom is a Bloody Nose Essay
Southampton, Virginia in 1831 was a remote and a pretty vapid place. As most southerners, citizens of
Southampton had a strong correlation of social status according to their amount of slave ownership.
Most slave owners were precautions of their slave s lifestyles. They did not want a sudden revolt or
uprising such as the infamous Santo Domingo event that occurred in the 1700 s to happen in the south.
But of course they could not prevent these uprisings to occur in the future such as Nat Turner s fierce
rebellion in 1831. Slaves at this point were tired of their mistreatment and abuse. They wanted to
reach that gift of freedom; freedom of religion, freedom of speech, freedom to assemble, freedom of
press and freedom of petition. As a boy, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

his intelligence. In the book it states the following, Nat s parents, his grandmother, and the other
Turner slaves all agreed that he was intended for some great purpose. Since Nat s playmates knew
about his brilliance, they wanted to use it to their advantage. His playmates plans for his brilliance
weren t subjects that he specifically was interested; he thought that his brilliance needed to be
enforced in a better manner. His master, Benjamin approved of his literacy and as well encouraged the
boy. He encouraged the boy to study a more religion based literacy which included Nat reading the
Bible and taking him out to prayer meetings. Master Benjamin was very proud him. From this point
and on, Nat would be encountering unexpected events. First, his father ran away from the Turner
place, leaving Nat and his family behind. Also, in late 1810, Master Benjamin died of a typhoid which
became an epidemic around the surroundings. Every slave, including Nat, now was the property of
Benjamin s son, Samuel. Master Samuel was a stricter master than Benjamin. This meant Nat s
literacy wasn t on his master mind. To make matters worse for Nat, he has now turned 12, the age
where slaves must go to work. Even with his hardship, Nat was able to find tranquility in religion.

John Stuart Mills Argument On Happiness
Do you agree or disagree with John Stuart Mills argument?Happiness will come to you without
dwelling it.I agree with John Stuart Mills argument that we should not search for happiness. The
enjoyments of life are sufficient to make it a pleasant thing.Enjoying your life, doing the things that
make you happy should make you feel happy. If you search for happiness it wont come to you because
happiness comes to you the moment you don t expect it to come. Happiness should not be searched
for.
You should find happiness by the things you are surrounded by.You should be happy by having your
family and friends around you.People search for happiness but they do not achieve their goal because
happiness should be around the little things you have.

The Dangers Of Hunger And Malnutrition
PROBLEM:
Food security is said to be attained when all people are able to access enough safe and nutritious food
to meet their requirements for a healthy life . However, food security is challenged by various factors
across production and consumption. Food production, trade, the environmental impact of agriculture,
the threat of climate change, and the factors that affect food prices are all largely global in nature there
is no single solution that any one country can enact to ensure access to affordable, sustainable, safe
and nutritious food for all.

of grains, tubers and legumes, affecting key nutrients such as zinc and iron. The estimated impact of

downturn caused by the global financial crisis. A growing population means more mouths to feed.

ANALYSIS:
About 2 billion of the global population of over 7 billion are food insecure because they fall short of
one or several of Food and Agriculture Organization s dimensions of food security. Enormous
geographic differences in the prevalence of hunger exist worldwide.
Globally, one in nine people in the world today (795 million) are undernourished. The clear majority
of the world s hungry people live in developing countries, where 12.9 per cent of the population is
undernourished. Asia is the continent with the most hungry people two thirds of the total. The
percentage in southern Asia has fallen in recent years but in western Asia it has increased slightly.
Southern Asia faces the greatest hunger burden, with about 281 million undernourished people. In sub
Saharan Africa, projections for the 2014 2016 period indicate a rate of undernourishment of almost 23
per cent. Poor

Barbie Essays
Barbie Since the beginning of time, toys have often been an indicator of the way a society behaves,
and how they interact with their children. For example, in ancient Greece, artifacts recovered there
testify that children were simply not given toys to play with as in the modern world. The cruel ritual of
leaving a sick child on a hillside for dead, seems to indicate a lack of attention to the young (Lord 16).
The same is true of today s society. As you can see with the number of toy stores in our society, we
find toys of great value to our lives and enjoy giving them to children as gifts. Ask just about any
young girl what she wants for Christmas and you ll undoubtedly get the same answer: A Barbie. But
what exactly has caused ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In fact, the Barbie doll was so popular that three years after her release in 1959 Mattel was still filling
orders from her first year (Long 17).
It wasn t until the late 1960 s that critics began comparing Barbie to a Playboy Bunny and calling her
a corrupter of youth ( Bad Girl 3). One woman commented, She s an absurd representation of what a
woman should be ( Bad Girl 3) and that s exactly what many others thought she was, too. With such
impossible real life measurements of 5 9 tall, 36 18 33 bust, waist, and hip (Benstock and Ferriss 35),
it s easy to see why mothers across the country banned the doll from their homes and refused to let
their impressionable young daughters be influenced by a piece of painted plastic (Bestock and Ferriss
35). Since dolls have often been responsible for teaching children what society deems important or
beautiful, many concerned parents wondered why Mattel did not design a doll that taught more
valuable lessons than dressing pretty and being dangerously skinny (Edut 19)? Who said a runway
model was best suited for teaching a child what is beautiful anyway? According to a Mattel
spokesperson, a Kate Moss figure is better suited for today s fashions (Edut 19), and that is one reason
why Barbie must be so disproportional. Actually, another reason for Barbie s anorexic figure can be
traced back long before Kate Moss and the fashion runway. Barbie was

Do Food Stamps Cause Obesity
Today s society is infatuated with the thought of being fit and skinny. Although eating healthy and
balanced sounds ideal for most Americans, this can be more difficult than it seems. Because of the
number of families living in poverty, eating a nutritious and balanced diet is a tremendous challenge.
Healthy foods generally cost more than cheaper, processed foods. Families attempting to make the
most of their scarce amount of money will try to stretch their dollar and purchase large quantities of
food, disregarding the nutritional value. Many studies show the correlation between obesity and other
health issues, with a family s financial status. Although there are now several ways for today s society
to be healthful, including new diet ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Otherwise known as Food Stamps, this program was aimed towards those battling food insecurity or
hunger, and to assist them in purchasing food. This program has in fact helped to alleviate these
problems, but has resulted in another extreme: obesity. The article Do Food Stamps Cause Obesity?
Evidence From Immigrant Experience explains that monthly vouchers of food stamps have been
found to affect quantity and frequency of food consumption, with periods of high consumption
immediately following voucher receipt (Kaushal, 4). I find this to be unsurprising, as when food is
plentiful and readily available, splurging seems likely. Citizens that are qualified for this program are
essentially provided a sum of money in correlation to the number of family members in their home.
The money provided is enough to counteract hunger, but not nearly enough to provide a healthy diet
by any means. The article also provides that between 20 to 30 percent of food stamp recipients would
spend less on food than their food stamp benefit amount if they received cash instead of stamps.
Because the food stamp is only exchangeable for food items, this can limit the families spending
power. When given their monthly allotment of food stamps, the family will stock up on the
inexpensive, unhealthy food, because it lasts the longest. When living under these circumstances, the
individual doesn t have a choice to be particular with the items they

1968 Revolution Research Paper
Driving Forces, Responses and Legacies of the 1968 Uprisings
The movements for change across Europe in 1968 differed between Eastern and Western Europe due
to the catalysts and the responses they provoked (because of differing political systems), but the
revolts across Europe in 1968 left similar legacies of improved living conditions, détente and cultural
freedom in both Eastern and Western Europe.
Due to a few Eastern Europe countries demanding political freedom and Western Europe demanding
freedom from capitalism, the reasons for the movements of change across Europe in 1968 differed
greatly. In Eastern Europe, (most notably in Czechoslovakia) citizens tried to gain political freedom
from the USSR through uprisings. When Leonid Brezhnev ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Pirates Among Children Why would a pirate need to go to school? How would a pirate behave in a
school? In the books Uncle Pirate, by Douglas Rees, and Pirates Go To School, by Corinne Demas,
the reader is shown how different writers view these questions. Have these two writers expressed
similar or opposing views of one another? How does the age gap affect the writing? Why is the theme
so important? First off, what is a pirate? The Merriam Webster Dictionary defines it as Someone who
attacks and steals from a ship at sea. Why would an author use someone like this for a children s
book? That could be attributed to many things, specifically modern culture and the way it uses pirates.

mood of the book. this plays into the theme of the book which seems to be that, school can be a fun

experience is a shared theme between the two stories.
In the longer of the two stories, Uncle Pirate, the structure is very clearly set up for a more advanced
reader, specifically ten through twelve year olds. The structure of this book is set up like a normal
chapter book. The book has full paragraphs broken up by black and white illustrations done by Tony

Symbolism Of Desire In Tennessee WilliamsA Streetcar Named...
Throughout the play, A Streetcar Named Desire, the streetcar serves as the main symbol in an attempt
to define Blanche s journey. Blanch comes from Belle Reve. On her journey to New Orleans, she has
quite a few car changes. They told me to take a streetcar named Desire, and then transfer to one called
Cemeteries and ride six blocks and get off at Elysian Fields! (Williams 6) Although her exact route is
not continuously brought up throughout the text, it has a greater purpose that if not evaluated, can
often get overlooked. Desire is defined by dictionary.com as to wish or long for; crave; want. The
streetcar throughout the text symbolizes Blanches journey of desiring to start over, hence why she gets
on a streetcar named desire to get there. The author, Tennessee Williams is trying to show the deeper
meaning behind her wanting to move on from her past by using this example and many others. Every
girl loves baths or showers or some way of getting clean. The same way that women love being clean
and smelling pretty, everyone has a thing that comforts them. These comforting things can be objects,
people, thoughts, ideas, actions, dreams, etc. For Blanche, one of her comforts is baths. Williams uses
bats a lot to show what she does in her free time. He attempts to get the point across that she is
continuously taking baths to try and erase her past. Throughout the play, we find out everything that
Blanche has been through and everything slowly starts making sense as to why she feels the need to
erase her past. After going through her husband being unfaithful, she felt unworthy to be with him or
anyone else, not to mention her husband s suicide. Blanche blamed herself for her husband suicide.
After finding him with another man, she told him that he disgusted her, and his suicide followed those
words. This tore her apart, as it should. Everyone has a past or portion of it that they wish to erase. For
Blanche, she wishes she could erase her husband s suicide which is the significance of the long,
frequent baths. Another symbol Mr. Williams uses is Blanche s obsession with light. She described her
love for her young, belated husband as a blinding light .

Origins of the Apple Computer Company Essay
Did you know that the Apple computer started in someone s garage? Many people do not know how it
all started. Today, Apple Computer Incorporated, formerly known as Apple Computer Company,
dominates the technological industry with Mac, iPod, and iPhone sales. Apple had its best ever
quarterly revenue of $1.58 billion dollars in 2008 ( Best Quarterly Revenue n.pag.). The brilliant
minds of Steve Wozniak and Steve Jobs led to the inventions of the Apple I and Apple II computers,
which revolutionized the computer industry of the 1970s and 1980s.
It all started with Steve Wozniak, the kind of person who liked to tell jokes and pull pranks at the

Steve programmed, designed, and tested diagnostics that went to various input and output devices, like

otherwise. Telnet was not successful at selling its computer, so it closed in 1970 (Kendall 17).
However, his love and dedication towards computers would lead to the development of the first Apple
computer. In 1971, Steve and his friend Bill Hernandez designed a pretty good computer and his
mother was impressed. She contacted a local newspaper company to do a report on it. They were very
excited to explain the operation and specs to the reporter, but that is not how it happened. When the
reporter came to see the computer, they started the computer up and the blinking lights came on. After
that, someone stepped on the power cord, which caused the computer to start smoking, and then
stopped working. The reporter quickly left and only wrote a small article on their computer (Kendall

On The Move Reflection
On the Move My family and I depended on my father for a paycheck every month to pay for bills and
groceries, but one month the paycheck never came. My father had lost his job from Caterpillar in
Decatur, Illinois. When it happened, I was in third grade, and I had no worries, didn t care about how I

preschool at the time, were six and three years old, and only cared about the toys they wanted from the
store. My mother was a stay at home mother, and tended to the house and all of our needs at home
when it occurred. My father had lost his job, my family lost the paycheck that paid for everything.
I had no idea my father lost his job until I got home from school that day. When I walked in, I saw my
father sitting upon his chair, in the family room, with bloodshot eyes. I was amazed I never saw my
father cry before. I always thought that he was this extremely tall man who could care less about what
other people thought of him, who could do almost anything, who loved my mother, my brothers, and I
so dearly. I asked him what was the matter, but all he did was tell me to go to my room and do my
homework. Then, I went and asked my mother why my father was acting the way he was, all she said
was, Your father and I will tell you and your brothers later. It wasn t until dinner when my mother and

Finally, it will be a lower cost, if the application we use to measure heart rate. Our aim is to explain
how to measure the application by the camera HR. For some chronic diseases, you have to measure
the frequency of extremely HR . In real life, there are many conditions that may affect the heart
diseases and conditions which can be very complex. If the HR can not be on time monitoring, the
situation would be very, very bad. Measuring heart rate is the basic way to diagnosis of heart disease.
The doctor will use a stethoscope to listen to heart sounds. Sound off in the heart of the heart valves
cardiac cycle, from vibration, chordate tendineae, papillary muscle, ventricular wall perspective,
arterial blood flow in from the storm. Based on the heart sounds, myocardial contractility,
hemodynamic status , vascular resistance and pulmonary artery pressure can be diagnosed. In the
smart phone technology is very suitable for the measurement of the heart beat in a smartphone. Such
as camera, touch screen, CPU, WIFI and a few other things. The phone can help patient to record their

The A.B.C. Murders by Agatha Christie Essay

Mystery
Agatha Christie, The A.B.C. Murders, The world Publishing Company, 1945. pp. 306.
1. Captain Arthur Hastings: Mr. Hastings was a friend and an accomplice to
Hercule Poirot in solving the case of the A.B.C. murders.
Hercule Poirot: He was the main detective and investigator in the A.B.C. murders. He is a very

The second letter came on the 24th of July. This next letter taunted Poirot and told him that the second
murder was going to take place in Bexhill on Sea, the next day. Poirot and Hastings had a pretty good
idea that the person to be killed would be one with the last name starting with B, but they could not be
sure.
In the morning they received a report that a murder took place at about midnight. The victim was
Elizabeth Barnard. She had been killed on the beach and another A.B.C. was found near her. There
had been no reports of her missing until the next morning. They now knew that they were up against a
homicidal murderer.

They received a third letter on the 30th. Once again it made fun of Poirot and said that the next murder
would take place on the 30th at Churston. They rushed to get to Churston, but it was too late. Sir
Carmichal Clarke had been killed. There again were no witnesses to this murder.
The fourth letter said that there would be a murder at Doncastor. All of the closest friends or family
were gathered with them there. They attended a big concert because that s where they though the
murder would take place. When they found the dead body it was George Earlsfield. The murderer was
going to kill Mr. Downes, but in the dark he hadn t noticed that Mr. Downes had moved from his seat.

When you queue up an Owl City (AKAAdam Young) album, you know you re going to have some
fun; Mobile Orchestra delivers on that promise (even when fun may not match the song s content).
This album is fun not only because the songs have great, mostly upbeat rhythm but also because he

Thunderstruck (feat. Sarah Russell), to a country sound, Back Home (feat. Jake Owen) and everything

Sarah Russell s voice (somewhat reminiscent of Ellie Goulding) melds well with Adam Young s. It s
just a fun love song. Alas, this is followed by probably my least favorite song on the album,
Unbelievable. This should be a fun nostalgic song looking back to the childhood of their generation. It
comes off as bit dull song which list of things without any clever lyrics to tie it together. A clever rap
with good transitions could hav3e worked with what is, essentially, a long list. This just doesn t work.
It is Unbelievable. Now, admittedly, someone that had their shared experiences could find forgiveness
in the list with their own nostalgic memories. Bird with a Broken Wind stands in stark contrast to the
bubble gum pop of Unbelievable, taking on those who see the world primarily fraught with danger and
loss. Clearly this is someone whose experience have left them with scared and broken where the song
grapples with how you live in the wake of those experiences: It feels like I m a lone

Essay on Star of the Sea, what kind of man is Lord Kingscourt
Assignment 1
Star of the Sea by Joseph o Connor is a text set during the Irish Potato Famine, in 1847. The Irish
Potato famine of the 1840s was the greatest social catastrophe of 19th century Europe, yet inspired
surprisingly little imaginative writing. (Eagleton, 2002) However this book has been described by the
Sunday Times as having compelling characters and a dizzying narrative (Heaney, 2007) This
compelling story is set around a wealthy, turned bankrupt, land owner and his family who flee to
America, the promised land, in search of a new life. They are joined on this journey by a range of
other passengers whose previous lives are in entwined together in a past that won t let them go. The

kind, considerate man who does not have normal upper class tendnacies towards other people. Lord
Kingscourt finds the behaviour of the irish upper class hard to stomach (Ibid, Page 8), he doesn t like
the way the prosperous Irish were never done lampooning their rural countrymen (Ibid, Page 8). The
upper class usually find it acceptable to make fun of the lower classes, it is a form of humour to them.
However Lord Kingscourt does not hold this view, he cares about the people around him, regardless of
where they have came from or how much money they have. Lord Kingscourt has in fact often envied
them, (Ibid, Page 10). The previous night Lord Kingscourt had observed a member of steerage, either

Emergent literacy represents a shift in thinking about young children s reading. It stresses the
relationship between the preschool and beginning reading phases, among concerns and issues of early
childhood educators and those of reading teachers, and between the home and school environment
(Teale, 1995). Marie Clay (1977) first used the term emergent literacy. In the mid 1980s emergent
literacy theory gained importance as a way to explain the beginning of children s reading skills.
Emergent literacy replaced the term reading readiness through the 1980s 1990s. Emergent literacy is
based upon the notion that children learn literacy skills through print. Teale and Sulzby (1991)
proposed that emergent literacy be recognized as a new model for conceptualizing young children s
written language development. Teale and Sulzby defined emergent literacy as the reading and writing
concepts, behaviors, and dispositions that precede and develop into conventional literacy (Teale, 1995,
p.107).
By the mid 1980s emergent reading/literacy became accepted among researchers, early educators, and
reading teachers. Emergent literacy appeared as an ERIC descriptor and was recognized as a
justifiable area of work in the conventions of the National Association for the Education of the Young
Children, the National Reading Conference, the International Reading

The Culture Industry And Commodification
By making itself more vulnerable to social and economic relationships, authenticity has turned itself
into a commodity. Something becomes a commodity when its social character is denied and is
abstracted to be exchangeable in the marketplace.24 The true concern of the mind is to avoid this
process of reification; if this fails to happens thought turns into a cultural asset and is simply used to
be consumed and used by the power structure.25 While The authentics despise the superficial and
vapid pseudoindividuality of the inauthentic individuals they simply fail to properly critique it.
Authenticity becomes another form of bourgeois thought. It represents the increased specialization
that stems from the division of labour rather than disruption. It is one of the many specialized forms of
thought that distracts people instead of having them question abstraction in the first place. It is even
worse than other aspects of bourgeois thought; the other disciplines do not proclaim to be solving the
alienation that they have caused.
The contempt of the culture industry and commodification has itself been commodified in a series
catch words. The buzz words used by the authentics become no different than the words of
advertising.26 This jargon of authenticity has a certain rare pathos that allows for a higher exchange
value on the marketplace.27 There are various examples of authenticity s marketability. brand
authenticity is defined as maintaining brand standards and style,

A strategic planning report is to explain how the use of the tool will benefit an organization in the
health care industry. Discussed in the report address what the strategic planning development and
implementation process is and to address why it helps organizations be successful.
Mr. Janowski, I am responding to you request to receive information on how the use of strategic
management will benefit and help your organization to succeed in the future. By definition a Strategic

philosophy, and purpose of that organization. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Your team members will gain a sense of pride in working as part of an organization that stands for
something and are united by a common sense of purpose (Wloczewski, 2013). A periodic review with
corporate management will enable them to agree on your organization s evolving long term direction,
set a new course if required, get the organization back on track when necessary, or determine whether
interim modifications are needed (Wloczewski, 2013).
Strategic management will benefit your health care organization. Public health organizations operate
in a dynamic environment that is turbulent and unpredictable. It is necessary for these organizations to
be able to develop and implement plans to take advantage of their changing environment. Strategic
planning is a management tool commonly used in an organization and has many benefits that can be
applied to the healthcare and public health industries. Strategic managers have been able to develop
successful business plans by taking a proactive approach to the process (Kinsella, 2015).
The effect strategic planning has on decision making and financial performance is key to your
organizations success. The introduction of the balanced scorecard emphasized financial performance
as one of the key indicators of a firm s success and helped to link strategic goals to performance and

The Success Of The Safran Family
I came with this question because my Fiancé works with a well known company in Santa Monica.
This company is called Victory Furniture. This company from what I seen in person and from what
my fiancé has told me, can be in great demand with the right season, but it also has its down side when
the season is bad. Which I believe every company faces at some point. The main basis of this
company is outside furniture. It was established in 1945, in the State of California. A third generation
own company. The store symbolizes the hope and optimism felt by Americans in the post WWII
boom. The store s name commemorates the sacrifices and glory of a growing nation and to this day
serves to reflect the commitment invested by three generations of family to build and maintain the
American dream. The Safran family has created a successful furniture business from its beginnings in
a modest, storefront location in West Los Angeles. The family team now operates two dynamic
showrooms in Santa Monica and Irvine. Their showcase varies in the luxurious furniture and
accessories from a wide range of designs and taste. Although each generation has brought its own
talents to the various aspects of the retail environment, through the years a constant has remained,
Victory Furniture carries the widest selection, offers the fairest prices, and provides the finest
customer service. Victory Furniture pushes its best to provide is their finest customer service, and as a

The Government Must Maintain Crucial Relationships With...
The government must maintain crucial relationships with the society. The leaders uphold the basic
rights by guaranteeing people s security and equitable distribution of resources. The Chinese
government has implemented several policies that enabled the cooperation between the state and the
social organizations. The social organizations, such as NGOs, have a significant role in connecting the
state and the society and in enhancing their relationship. They are the extensions of the government to
the certain areas that the government couldn t reach, helping the government better meet the society s
needs.

Although the government appears to exact control in the social organizations, their relationships are
said to be symbiotic. The social organizations always find ways to negotiate with the government on
how to meet the interests of their members ( Negotiating the state: The development of social
organizations in China , p. 125). The government is making efforts to involve the society in the
developments through the social organizations. Wang and Carl explain that the increasing social unrest
is a force generated from communist rule, increasing the need for the government to respond the
people s needs. Social organizations have been used in the control of unrest of people created by
previous leaders through the introduction of reforms dating back to 1990 s. In light of the challenges
of dealing with societal unrest, the government s response was to involve society in major decisions,
thus initiating the formation of social organizations. In the article The Rise of the Chinese Security
State, Wang and Carl mention that there was establishment of special offices for dealing with social
stability, an example of these special offices being the anti cult departments; and those special offices
being predecessors of social organizations.
In democratic nations, such as the United States, each political party has to come with its policies and
manifestos.

Speech On Blood Donation
The Gift of Life You re always somebody s type. Maybe not in the sense of finding love, but at least in
donating blood. When individuals are asked why they donate blood, their response is simple, it is
heartwarming as well as a rewarding feeling. Individuals can donate at blood drives and
hospitals.Donors can either walk in or schedule an appointment. Donating blood is not easy for some
people, especially if it is the first time, they may not know what to expect and they may be nervous. It
is phlebotomist or employee at the blood donation center job to make the person feel welcome and
help them overcome any fears they may have.We need as many donors as we can get to try and reach
our number for how many pints of blood are required. Although we have blood banks like Bonfils;
which is one of many locations Colorado has for a bigger supply of blood to help us out in case of an
emergency. We simply would not have enough blood for the affected victims because we are short on
blood donations; supply and demand for donation are too high; diagnoses and transportation of blood
would take too long.
As we begin, although we are thousands of pints short on blood, we would not be able to help large
number of victims in a big emergency, through more blood donations. If we were in need of lots of
blood we would have lots of donors lining up outside blood donor locations to help the cause. For
example, the Las Vegas shooting massacre. Fifty nine people were confirmed dead and more than

Follow The Drinking Gourd Analysis
Follow the Drinking Gourd by H. B. Parks is one of the hundreds of slave spirituals. Slaves worked
long and demanding hours, faced physical punishments, lived in a crude one room log cabin with few
furnishings, wear shabby clothing, were highly susceptible to deadly diseases, and eat a diet with
limited fresh foods (Nash 2017, 239). Their lives were burdensome. To help cope with and make sense
of their lives slaves came together to form a community with its own culture distinct from that of their
masters. A key element of this culture was spirituals. Spirituals not only helped slaves understand their
situation, but they also severed as a release from their suffering. Spirituals being biblically based point

Foller the drinkin gou d (Bresler). The beginning of verse one states that slaves should escape during
the spring which is when the quail call. In Alabama where this spiritual originated this occurs in early
to mid April (Harriet Tubman Historical Society). Another lyric in verse one is For the ole man say /
Foller the drinkin gou d. The old man this lyric mentions is the Underground Railroad conductor
named Peg Leg Joe, a former sailor whose right leg was amputated, who aided runaway slaves to
reach the banks of the Ohio River by marking trees and other landmarks with either the outline of a
human left foot or a circle for a right foot (Bresler). Similarly, in verse two this spiritual suggests that
slaves follow the river and look for signs provided by nature. It states in verse two the riva s bank am
a very good road / the dead trees show the way (Bresler). Moss grows on the north side of dead trees.
Through this verse, Parks suggests that if the runaway, lost sight of the Big Dipper or was unable to
locate the marking left by conductors like Peg Leg Joe they were to search for dead trees to point them

Authoritarian Parents And Parenting Styles
Parents use to blabber to their children about following the house rules without explaining to them
why they should follow. They set standards in their child for them to be disciplined in a way parents
would look up to. Spencer Rathus (2014), authoritarian parents have strict guidelines about what is
right and what is wrong and they demand that rules are rules and should be obeyed without explaining
why its implemented. Authoritarian parents always want to be obeyed by their children. If their
children did not obey them, they will receive yelling or punishments. Children coming from
authoritarian parenting are more likely to have low self esteem and low self worth. There are some
instances that these parents that use authoritarian parenting style would put their child on shame if
what they want is not fulfilled. Authoritarian parents are strict and don t usually give their child a
freedom to choose. Kids are forced by their parents. There are students nowadays that are failing when
it comes to their studies. They are not happy to what they are doing because it s not them who chose
for their courses or field that they want to study. Under this parenting style, parents are not very
affectionate to their children. They think that being strict will keep their child disciplines but perhaps
might only lead to rebellion. Thus, authoritarian parents are affecting not just the behavior of the
student but their grades also. It is a purely strict form of

The report has presented overwhelming statistical evidence to support this conclusion. BPD stops over
500 pedestrians per every 1,000 African Americans and only under 200 pedestrians for every 1,000
Caucasian Residents. A solution to this issue would be to have a diverse/variety of officers employed
under the Baltimore Police Department. Diversity should not merely be based on race but on the
background as well. BPD should only assign officers to work in a jurisdiction where they are familiar
with the residents and the demographics of the area. For example, if an area is 90% African American
and is known for high drug trafficking, an officer from a county with majority white residents and
only a discriminatory point of view on African Americans should not be assigned to work in this area.
It is important that officers familiarize themselves with the area they are policing because it will give
them a certain level of understanding and aid in determining how they should approach situations.
Also, officers should be able to honestly express when they are an assigned to an environment where
they do not feel comfortable. Keeping the lines of communication open between police officers and
administration is very important. Officers should be able to perform their duties in a comfortable

Summary Of The Book Evicted By Matthew Desmond
SUMMARY:
In Summary New York Times Bestseller book Evicted written by Matthew Desmond tells a story

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Histogram Equalization
Contrast Enhancement:
3.3.1 Histogram equalization
This method usually increases the global contrast of many images, especially when the usable data of
the image is represented by close contrast values. Through this adjustment, the intensities can be better
distributed on the histogram. This allows for areas of lower local contrast to gain a higher contrast.
Histogram equalization accomplishes this by effectively spreading out the most frequent intensity
values.
The method is useful in images with backgrounds and foregrounds that are both bright or both dark. In
particular, the method can lead to better views of bone structure in x ray images, and to better detail in
photographs that are over or under exposed. A key advantage of the method is that it is a fairly
straightforward technique and an invertible operator. So in theory, if the histogram equalization
function is known, then the original histogram can be recovered. The calculation is not
computationally intensive. A disadvantage of the method is that it is indiscriminate. It may increase
the contrast of background noise, while decreasing the usable signal.
In scientific imaging where spatial correlation is more important than intensity of signal (such as
separating DNA fragments of quantized length), the small signal to noise ... Show more content on

Also histogram equalization can produce undesirable effects (like visible image gradient) when
applied to images with low color depth. For example, if applied to 8 bit image displayed with 8 bit
gray scale palette it will further reduce color depth (number of unique shades of gray) of the image.
Histogram equalization will work the best when applied to images with much higher color depth than
palette size, like continuous data or 16 bit gray scale

how the car salesman used doublespeak and manipulation against me. I ended up buying a VW Passat
from him, but I know now he used persuasive language to sell me on the car it is an older model from
2003 and some of the language he used to persuade me was stuff like it s only driven once a week to
church, it has brand new tires, and quotes similar to that. Ultimately I bought the car, but he did take
away the offer that he had talked with my brother about for his sale. Now after taking this class I know
how unethical the tactics he used in selling to

The Preacher And The Thinkers Summary
The Preacher and The Thinkers
Having the drive, the discipline, the work ethic, and the mindset to accomplish what needs to get done.
Even when the world feels like it s pounding on you, to never give up is to be successful. This is what
needs to get done in order for one to feel and know that they have succeeded. It begins with the feeling
of self satisfaction in knowing that you could do something.
Success is peace of mind which is a direct result of self satisfaction in knowing you did your best to
become the best you are capable of becoming, the first picture spoke about what John Wooden said.
Others get torn down by the idea that they weren t good enough to reach what they strived for, because
they didn t believe that they were good enough. But no one ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The day he was there they were learning how to draw a three dimensional cube, there was one kid
who was struggling more than the others the teacher sent him to do it on the board. Then continuously
asked the class after every attempt of his if the three dimensional cube was drawn correctly time and
time again the class said it was wrong until he finally got it right. Mr. Stigler found it interesting that
he was the one placed on the board because over here in American class rooms they often sent the
student who did it the best to the board. This small experience that first got him thinking about how
differently East and West approach the experience of intellectual struggle. This shed new light
showing that struggle isn t always a bad thing, it doesn t always mean you re not smart enough to do
something, it could simply mean that you need to take more time to understand and assist over and
over again until there is an understanding of it, which is why this article was chosen it shows a variety
how success is approached on either side of the

Why The Driverless Cars Are The Future Of Travel
There has been much controversy over the claim that driverless cars are the future of travel. Many
people are uncertain of the new advances in the technology. This is why the idea that we could
possibly one day be riding in self driving with the assurance that everything is under control is
amazing (Weber.) In recent years developments have been underway to make driverless a reality, but
there are still many obstacles to try and overcome. The invention of anti lock brakes to cruise control
has greatly relieved the stress of driving for many travelers ( How a Driverless Car Will Benefit You. )
The progress of technology in modern times has greatly aided drivers. The stability of automobiles has
come a long way since the days of Guido da Vigevano ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Should Cellphones Be Banned In Public Places Research
Cell Phones Banning in Public Places Should cellphones be banned in public places? I agree that
cellphones should be banned in public places, however, they are needed in public places as well.
Cellphones may cause distractions but at the same time cellphones are useful when there is an
emergency. Although, people say cellphones cause a lot of sidetracks, they are also lifesavers. When
there is a problem while you re out and about you can use your device to call for help. However, some
people don t know how to just check their phone when they re busy and that causes an aftermath. The
first ever cellphone was created in 1876 by Alexander Graham Bell. Cellphones were introduced to
the public in 1945, but before cellphones there was the mobile telephone services . The largest MTS
market had no more than 44 channels, cellular networks were an ingenious way to expand service
dramatically. In the 2000s, Apple released its first phone which included computer capable
technologies. Samsung. LG, and others followed Apple s footsteps and phones just keep coming faster
each year. Cellphones were mainly created to make life easier on humans but some people have been
taking advantage of this privilege. Cellphones aren t always the problem but it s the person who owns
the phone. Cellphones can be a throw off to what s really going on and in a blank of an eye you re
facing the consequences. There have been numerous of deaths happen because someone thought

The New Frontier For Our Modernized World
Seafare, the new frontier for our modernized world. Cunard Line shipbuilding franchise. Back the
1800 s, the main goal for shipbuilding companies around Europe, was the crossing of the great
Atlantic Ocean. These competitions would rowel up the people of Europe, giving them more reason to
believe that mankind can perform anything. The Atlantic voyages, were the space race of the 1800 s,
each company tried to make the biggest ship, and the fastest ship, to make it across the Atlantic in
record time. However, even in this golden age of Atlantic travel, many problems slowly brewed across
Europe. Even in the races, captains were blinded by their intent to finish first, the lives of the
passengers lied at stake. In this time, many ships sunk ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, the explosion will remain a mystery, since no recognition of a sub was found.
After the wreck of the Britannic, the rival company of white star line, Cunard line, create a marvel just
as great as the Titanic. That was the Lusitania, this ship was a grand liner, with huge ballrooms and
dining halls, for the wealthy first class. However, underneath all of this leisure and happiness, lied a
dirty secret. Underneath the hull of the Lusitania, held hundreds of pounds of gunpowder and weapons
for the fighting in World War Two. The ship was then dispatched off the coast of England, to deliver
the cargo and passengers to the Norwegian front. However, off the coast of a picnic gathering on the
coast of Ireland, a family spotted the beautiful ship gliding across the blue water, but something they
saw would change the kids and their lives forever. In the distance, the family saw a large puff of thick
black smoke rise from the bottom or the ship, the sound then echoed through the empty pasture of
grass, they could do nothing, but watch the scene in horror. Meanwhile, on the ship, lifeboats were
being launched only half full, and many did not make it in the water. Then suddenly a large fire
spewed up from the bottom of the ship, and blasted six lifeboats, people were jumping in the water
hoping to survive, then something far worse happened. From underneath the ship, a huge fire

The Communist Manifesto And The Revolution
Part B #2: The Communist Manifesto and the Revolution
A revolution generally thought of as a change from the norm. According to Christopher Hill the
definition of a revolution is a complete over throw of the established government in any country or
state by those who have been previously subjected to it . Another way to think about a revolution is as
an uprising caused by a group of individuals towards another group due to unfair conditions or
treatment. The Communism Manifesto, written by Karl Marx, was a document written for the general
public that described communism and promoted the oppressed individuals to change societal social
class. I will argue that the Communism Manifesto was a document that was meant to start a
revolution. In society the oppressors, the bourgeoisie, had complete control over the government,
working condition, as well as the lives of the oppressed middle and lower class, the proletariats. If the
proletariats wanted to see a change in the inequality caused by the class system and regain power then
it is the essential that the proletariats overthrow the existing power. According to the Manifesto the
history of all hitherto existing society is the history of class struggle, in other words class conflict has
occurred throughout history, and will continue to occur. A revolution will lead history towards its final
destination.
The proletariats are the group of people, according to the Communist Manifesto, that will eventually
over throw the

Beacon Day Center Case Study
According to Beacon Law.org, the motto states that The Beacon is a place where services are being
provided to help restore dignity, self respect, and hope to Houston s poor and homeless . However,
discrimination against the transgender population in The Beacon Day Center has increased
significantly over the past six months I began my intern, I attended Tuesday and Thursday at the
agency. I observed 10% of the transgender clients of The Beacon Day Center are affected through this
problem. The Beacon staff and volunteers do not practice what their motto states, rather, they are
showing an indifference to the motto. Since I started my internship in the fall of 2016, I noticed that
transgender clients seeking services are underserved, because ... Show more content on

In addition, Beacon needs to educate the staff on how to avoid discriminating or stereotyping against
this population. Beacon should have a policy and procedures pamphlet outlined and attached to the
agency manual on how to treat people with dignity and respect. Furthermore, The Beacon should
implement a service first policy that will enable them to offer services without showing partiality to
any gender. This change in policy and procedures will include acceptance positive rules of the
transgender population. This change will make it necessary for The Beacon Day Center to receive
additional funding through Gala that will allow an increase in training staff. This change will assist
with the restructuring of their current staff and implement roles that will include all responsibilities.
One of the barriers that might exist is effective communication for all staff to become agents of
change. But this problem could be handled by consistently offering quarterly training to all employees
avoid resistance to change. The managers and directors will initiate all necessary changes to make this
agenda

Human Resource Management And How Does It Affect An...
One would ask the question, What is Human Resource Management and how does it affect an
organization? According to Management Study Guide (n.d.), human resource management is the
practice of managing individuals in an organization through an organized and systematic method.
Human resource management affects an organization by executing the procedures and policies and
warranting that the complaints of employees are taken care of. Given the different roles taken on by
the human resource management, it is vital to the attainment of an organization. Today, we will be
looking at three different ways in which human resource management affects an organization. One,
look at how human resource management influence an organizational performance. Next, I will be
sharing information on organizational culture, and then the practices of human resource management
in an organization. First, taking a look at how HRM influences organizational performances.
According to authors Phillips, J and Gully, S., human resource management policies and practices add
value to organization and influences organizational performances by either improving efficiencies or
contributing to revenue growth. This is to say that the effectiveness of human resource management in
an organization has the ability to bring about change, meet the organizations goals, and be able to
expand workers commitment, energy and accomplishments. Another way HRM can influence an
organization is through its talent philosophy.

Jewish Contributions to the Early Civil Rights Movement
In many ways, the 1950s planted the seeds for the progress of the 60s. Glimpses of the rebellious
generation, who would later find its way to the anti War protests, are found throughout the fifties,
specifically in movies like Rebel Without a Cause and more overtly in Jack Kerouac?s On The Road.
The move away from conformity and towards more of an individualistic mentality began in the
somewhat closed circles of the Beat movement and spread throughout America during the sixties. The
Montgomery Bus Boycotts and Brown V. Board of Education were great precursors to the
revolutionary civil rights legislation of the mid sixties. Whereas for most of the aforementioned
societal changes, the 50s only exhibited hints of what was to come in the ... Show more content on

Martin Luther King Jr. took the helm of the Montgomery Improvement Association, which was in
charge of the boycott, and it was under his leadership that the civil rights movement began to take a
new direction. His approach to the civil injustices of the time was peaceful confrontation. Exploiting
the new TV medium of the 1950s, King was able to reach millions more. The contrast of innocent
Blacks against the antagonistic White policemen of the South struck a chord with the liberal
Americans of the North. Playing on progressive ideals, King captured the attention of the left leaning
Americans, specifically those who found it difficult to express themselves in the federally hunted
Communist movement.
King, a religious man himself, frequently alluded to Biblical stories and themes. Instead of talking
about the resurrection of Jesus and other themes which divided Christians and Jews, King focused on
the Old Testament and the common values found in both religions. King himself declared that, I draw
not from Marxism or any other secular philosophy but from the prophets of Israel; from their passion
for justice and cry for righteousness. The ethic of Judaism is integral to my Christian faith. [3] King
concentrated on the shared belief of a compassionate God, as he once told a Rabbi, You and I draw
living waters from the same spring, from the belief in a God of love, Mercy and Justice.

Johnson s Seagrass And Its Effects
Johnson s Seagrass is a small, fragile seagrass that reproduces asexually. As a consequence, it s range
is limited to 200 kilometers in length of river mouths and tidal rivers off the coast of Florida, making
it the seagrass with the most limited distribution in the world. It s leaves are about 2 5 cm in length.
This seagrass is tolerant of variations in salinity but is not tolerant of damage caused by human
boating activities and actions including anchoring and dredging. This species of seagrass is so easily
moved that it is uprooted by the turbidity caused from boat propellers. Halophila Johnsonii is also
threatened by poor water quality including runoff and low oxygen levels. Johnson s seagrass was
declared a threatened species under ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
More specifically, Important ecological and economic functions of seagrass beds have been widely
acknowledged, notably their importance to fisheries and their role in preventing coastal erosion and
siltation of coral reefs (Erftemeijer and Lewis. 2006). Coral reefs are already disappearing at
astonishing rates and siltation is even more detrimental to their survival. Since the number of acres of
seagrass off the coast of Florida has decreased significantly in the past 65 years, it is especially
concerning that Johnson s seagrass reproduces asexually because The plant has a reduced capacity to
repopulate an area if lost due to human or environmental perturbations (Johnson s Seagrass Recovery
Team, 12).
The objective of this research is to determine whether or not Johnson s seagrass endangerment is
correlated to the amount of detrimental pollutants that humans are putting in aquatic ecosystems such
as excess nitrates and oil from dredging. The critical prediction in this experiment is that as the
concentration of a pollutant in the water Johnson s seagrass grows in increases, the amount of growth
decreases over time. The dry weight of the plant over time would decrease when grown in polluted
water when comparing the dry weight of the plant when grown in clean water.
The Flint River located in western Georgia is quite unpolluted and will be fit to reproduce these clean
water conditions in the laboratory.

  • 2. The Guardian Building Of Downtown Detroit What is that strange orange brick building? Why should I care about that? That striking orange, brick building is the Guardian Building of downtown Detroit. When deciding to go to a historical site in the city, I was drawn in by the history of the place. I am relatively new to the city and when I heard about this place, I knew that s where I wanted to go. When our group traveled together to the site, it became apparent why this building is not only important to Detroit, but to all cities. The Guardian Building was not only a great fixture of the past, but it is a leading example of the efforts to bring a city back to greatness. The Guardian Building was founded by The Union Trust Company. Smith Hinchman and Grylls architectural firm and designer Wirt C. Rowland were crucial to the grand design of the historic site ( History Guardian Building ). One strong characteristic of the lobby is a grand motto made of inlaid tile. This motto is pictured in figure 1. It upholds the ideals of the building, of the founders. It is not just a motto of the past. It envisions a grand future for the current city of Detroit. The tiles read, Founded on the principles of faith and understanding this building is erected for the purpose of maintaining and continuing the ideals of financial service which prompted the organization of this institution. This building was not some boring old bank building. It was built to be spectacular a cathedral of finance. It was a grand part of commerce in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Conflict Management Blake and Mouton Abstract This study presents a review of conflict management approach. It presents the various views and definitions on conflict types of conflict. It further looks at five conflict management styles of Blake and Mouton. In addition, it provides some insight into conflict management from a Malaysian perspective. Introduction Whether conflict within an organization is viewed as desirable or not, the fact is that conflict exists and is endemic. As human beings interact in organizations, differing values and situations create tension. Conflict is thereby viewed as a situation in which two or more individuals operating within a unit appear to be incompatible. When such conflict is recognized, acknowledged and managed in a proper ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Nature of conflict Conflict arises due to a variety of factors. Individual differences in goals, expectations, values, proposed courses of action, and suggestions about how to best handle a situation are unavoidable. When we add to this an amount of unease because of uncertainty as to a business s future, conflict often increases. Perhaps this is why we see such a high amount of conflict today. Changes in technology, global shifting of power, political unrest, and financial uncertainties are facts of life. These factors – and others – make conflict unavoidable. To some managers, this inevitable disharmony is lamentable and should be avoided at all costs. To others, conflict presents exciting possibilities about the future – if managed in a positive, constructive fashion. Traditionally, conflict within an organization has been seen as a sign of a problem. Conflict meant there were differences of opinion, alternatives which needed to be considered, and opposing points of view to be studied. Adaptation, accommodation and flexibility are the keys to survival in such a situation. Organizations are often found to be in similar precarious situations, and the same survival skills apply in the organizational environment. Changes in personnel, clientele, product line, financial climate, and even corporate philosophy and vision will happen. A manager needs to develop flexible new coping skills to continue functioning in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Tatyana Rules and Norms I am going to be talking about rules and norms. First I am going to talk about rules. The definition of a rule is an explicit, officially stated guideline that governs group functions and member behavior. There are many examples of rules in the movie, but I am going to talk about one particular incident. In beginning of movie when the students first arrive for detention, Principal Vernon sets down the rules, what he expects them to do, and to behave under his supervision. He does this to show that he is the one in charge and they must follow his rules or face further Saturdays of detention. Now, I will show you this clip. Now I am going to talk about norms. A norm is shared values, beliefs, behaviors, and procedures that govern a group s operation. I am going to be talking about a social norm in particular. In the movie, five completely different people are stuck in detention together. Social norms say that if they become friends over this one Saturday, they won t stay friends once they leave dentition and will go on with their lives like nothing happened between them. This is because their regular school friends would make fun of them because they are in completely different social classes. Now I will show you this ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

As most southerners, citizens of Southampton had a strong correlation of social status according to their amount of slave ownership. Most slave owners were precautions of their slave s lifestyles. They did not want a sudden revolt or uprising such as the infamous Santo Domingo event that occurred in the 1700 s to happen in the south. But of course they could not prevent these uprisings to occur in the future such as Nat Turner s fierce rebellion in 1831. Slaves at this point were tired of their mistreatment and abuse. His playmates plans for his brilliance weren t subjects that he specifically was interested; he thought that his brilliance needed to be enforced in a better manner. His master, Benjamin approved of his literacy and as well encouraged the boy. He encouraged the boy to study a more religion based literacy which included Nat reading the Bible and taking him out to prayer meetings. Master Benjamin was very proud him. From this point and on, Nat would be encountering unexpected events. First, his father ran away from the Turner place, leaving Nat and his family behind. Also, in late 1810, Master Benjamin died of a typhoid which became an epidemic around the surroundings. Every slave, including Nat, now was the property of Benjamin s son, Samuel. Master Samuel was a stricter master than Benjamin. This meant Nat s literacy wasn t on his master mind. To make matters worse for Nat, he has now turned 12, the age where slaves must go to work. • 11. Barbie Essays Barbie Since the beginning of time, toys have often been an indicator of the way a society behaves, and how they interact with their children. For example, in ancient Greece, artifacts recovered there testify that children were simply not given toys to play with as in the modern world. The cruel ritual of leaving a sick child on a hillside for dead, seems to indicate a lack of attention to the young (Lord 16). The same is true of today s society. As you can see with the number of toy stores in our society, we find toys of great value to our lives and enjoy giving them to children as gifts. Ask just about any young girl what she wants for Christmas and you ll undoubtedly get the same answer: A Barbie. But what exactly has caused ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In fact, the Barbie doll was so popular that three years after her release in 1959 Mattel was still filling orders from her first year (Long 17). It wasn t until the late 1960 s that critics began comparing Barbie to a Playboy Bunny and calling her a corrupter of youth ( Bad Girl 3). One woman commented, She s an absurd representation of what a woman should be ( Bad Girl 3) and that s exactly what many others thought she was, too. With such impossible real life measurements of 5 9 tall, 36 18 33 bust, waist, and hip (Benstock and Ferriss 35), it s easy to see why mothers across the country banned the doll from their homes and refused to let their impressionable young daughters be influenced by a piece of painted plastic (Bestock and Ferriss 35). Since dolls have often been responsible for teaching children what society deems important or beautiful, many concerned parents wondered why Mattel did not design a doll that taught more valuable lessons than dressing pretty and being dangerously skinny (Edut 19)? Who said a runway model was best suited for teaching a child what is beautiful anyway? According to a Mattel spokesperson, a Kate Moss figure is better suited for today s fashions (Edut 19), and that is one reason why Barbie must be so disproportional. • 12. Do Food Stamps Cause Obesity Today s society is infatuated with the thought of being fit and skinny. Although eating healthy and balanced sounds ideal for most Americans, this can be more difficult than it seems. Because of the number of families living in poverty, eating a nutritious and balanced diet is a tremendous challenge. Healthy foods generally cost more than cheaper, processed foods. Families attempting to make the most of their scarce amount of money will try to stretch their dollar and purchase large quantities of food, disregarding the nutritional value. Many studies show the correlation between obesity and other health issues, with a family s financial status. Otherwise known as Food Stamps, this program was aimed towards those battling food insecurity or hunger, and to assist them in purchasing food. This program has in fact helped to alleviate these problems, but has resulted in another extreme: obesity. The article Do Food Stamps Cause Obesity? Evidence From Immigrant Experience explains that monthly vouchers of food stamps have been found to affect quantity and frequency of food consumption, with periods of high consumption immediately following voucher receipt (Kaushal, 4). I find this to be unsurprising, as when food is plentiful and readily available, splurging seems likely. Citizens that are qualified for this program are essentially provided a sum of money in correlation to the number of family members in their home. The money provided is enough to counteract hunger, but not nearly enough to provide a healthy diet by any means. The article also provides that between 20 to 30 percent of food stamp recipients would spend less on food than their food stamp benefit amount if they received cash instead of stamps. Because the food stamp is only exchangeable for food items, this can limit the families spending power. When given their monthly allotment of food stamps, the family will stock up on the inexpensive, unhealthy food, because it lasts the longest. The structure of this book is set up like a normal chapter book. The book has full paragraphs broken up by black and white illustrations done by Tony Auth. The illustrations, though black and white, allow this book to be visualized better by youth who haven t quite figured out how to visualize a story in there head. it is not an ideal book for age groups higher than twelve at most. The book shares similar qualities of humor and a lighthearted mood with the latter book. A big difference would be the books ability to cover bigger real world issues in elementary school, as mentioned by BCCB in a review on Douglas Rees s website. The excerpt from their review ... • 17. Symbolism Of Desire In Tennessee WilliamsA Streetcar Named... Throughout the play, A Streetcar Named Desire, the streetcar serves as the main symbol in an attempt to define Blanche s journey. Blanch comes from Belle Reve. On her journey to New Orleans, she has quite a few car changes. They told me to take a streetcar named Desire, and then transfer to one called Cemeteries and ride six blocks and get off at Elysian Fields! (Williams 6) Although her exact route is not continuously brought up throughout the text, it has a greater purpose that if not evaluated, can often get overlooked. Desire is defined by dictionary.com as to wish or long for; crave; want. The streetcar throughout the text symbolizes Blanches journey of desiring to start over, hence why she gets on a streetcar named desire to get there. The author, Tennessee Williams is trying to show the deeper meaning behind her wanting to move on from her past by using this example and many others. Every girl loves baths or showers or some way of getting clean. The same way that women love being clean and smelling pretty, everyone has a thing that comforts them. These comforting things can be objects, people, thoughts, ideas, actions, dreams, etc. For Blanche, one of her comforts is baths. Williams uses bats a lot to show what she does in her free time. He attempts to get the point across that she is continuously taking baths to try and erase her past. Throughout the play, we find out everything that Blanche has been through and everything slowly starts making sense as to why she feels the need to erase her past. After going through her husband being unfaithful, she felt unworthy to be with him or anyone else, not to mention her husband s suicide. Blanche blamed herself for her husband suicide. After finding him with another man, she told him that he disgusted her, and his suicide followed those words. This tore her apart, as it should. Everyone has a past or portion of it that they wish to erase. For Blanche, she wishes she could erase her husband s suicide which is the significance of the long, frequent baths. Another symbol Mr. Williams uses is Blanche s obsession with light. She described her love for her young, belated husband as a blinding light . ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Authenticity becomes another form of bourgeois thought. It represents the increased specialization that stems from the division of labour rather than disruption. It is one of the many specialized forms of thought that distracts people instead of having them question abstraction in the first place. It is even worse than other aspects of bourgeois thought; the other disciplines do not proclaim to be solving the alienation that they have caused. The contempt of the culture industry and commodification has itself been commodified in a series catch words. The buzz words used by the authentics become no different than the words of advertising.26 This jargon of authenticity has a certain rare pathos that allows for a higher exchange value on the marketplace.27 There are various examples of authenticity s marketability. brand authenticity is defined as maintaining brand standards and style, ... The book illustrates true events that take place between 2008 and 2009 in Milwaukee s South Side. Matthew Desmond s Evicted is unwavering and blunt in portraying poverty in America. It looks at first hand accounts of real events with real people. The book is narrated in third person, which allows the characters to tell their own story in their own words. Desmond initially started his research in 2008 while he was a PhD student in sociology at the University of Wisconsin. Not because she felt kinship with the black people but like the other landlords in the inner city they get some of the largest profits. The properties are rented out at the same rates as the higher class neighbourhoods, but they don t have to keep them in good condition, because their tenants are so poor and desperate that they will take anything. It also helps that they don t reject applications with criminal records which is most of the black population. Desmond also introduces readers to a number of Sherrena s other tenants: Lamar, the Vietnam War veteran and father who loves to play cards with the neighborhood kids; Lamar who lost his leg, not in the war but when he jumped out of a window while high makes it impossible for him to work so he lives off of his welfare check, which barely covers the rent. To help Lamar when he falls short, Sherrena often gives him odd jobs like painting and cleaning to cover the difference; but she doesn t always pay him. Readers also meet a mother and a grandmother named Doreen Hinkston, she is forced to live with her four children and three grandchildren in a house across the street form Lamar. Doreen is described as a mother hen and her children are fun loving people. But because Doreen and her children face financial hardships, they are depress and listless. • 38. Advantages And Disadvantages Of Histogram Equalization Contrast Enhancement: 3.3.1 Histogram equalization This method usually increases the global contrast of many images, especially when the usable data of the image is represented by close contrast values. Through this adjustment, the intensities can be better distributed on the histogram. This allows for areas of lower local contrast to gain a higher contrast. Histogram equalization accomplishes this by effectively spreading out the most frequent intensity values. The method is useful in images with backgrounds and foregrounds that are both bright or both dark. In particular, the method can lead to better views of bone structure in x ray images, and to better detail in photographs that are over or under exposed. A key advantage of the method is that it is a fairly straightforward technique and an invertible operator. So in theory, if the histogram equalization function is known, then the original histogram can be recovered. The calculation is not computationally intensive. A disadvantage of the method is that it is indiscriminate. It may increase the contrast of background noise, while decreasing the usable signal. In scientific imaging where spatial correlation is more important than intensity of signal (such as separating DNA fragments of quantized length), the small signal to noise ... For example, if applied to 8 bit image displayed with 8 bit gray scale palette it will further reduce color depth (number of unique shades of gray) of the image. • 46. The Communist Manifesto And The Revolution Part B #2: The Communist Manifesto and the Revolution A revolution generally thought of as a change from the norm. According to Christopher Hill the definition of a revolution is a complete over throw of the established government in any country or state by those who have been previously subjected to it . Another way to think about a revolution is as an uprising caused by a group of individuals towards another group due to unfair conditions or treatment. The Communism Manifesto, written by Karl Marx, was a document written for the general public that described communism and promoted the oppressed individuals to change societal social class. I will argue that the Communism Manifesto was a document that was meant to start a revolution. In society the oppressors, the bourgeoisie, had complete control over the government, working condition, as well as the lives of the oppressed middle and lower class, the proletariats. If the proletariats wanted to see a change in the inequality caused by the class system and regain power then it is the essential that the proletariats overthrow the existing power. According to the Manifesto the history of all hitherto existing society is the history of class struggle, in other words class conflict has occurred throughout history, and will continue to occur. A revolution will lead history towards its final destination. The proletariats are the group of people, according to the Communist Manifesto, that will eventually over throw the ... Human resource management affects an organization by executing the procedures and policies and warranting that the complaints of employees are taken care of. Given the different roles taken on by the human resource management, it is vital to the attainment of an organization. Today, we will be looking at three different ways in which human resource management affects an organization. One, look at how human resource management influence an organizational performance. Next, I will be sharing information on organizational culture, and then the practices of human resource management in an organization. First, taking a look at how HRM influences organizational performances. According to authors Phillips, J and Gully, S., human resource management policies and practices add value to organization and influences organizational performances by either improving efficiencies or contributing to revenue growth. This is to say that the effectiveness of human resource management in an organization has the ability to bring about change, meet the organizations goals, and be able to expand workers commitment, energy and accomplishments. Another way HRM can influence an organization is through its talent philosophy. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Glimpses of the rebellious generation, who would later find its way to the anti War protests, are found throughout the fifties, specifically in movies like Rebel Without a Cause and more overtly in Jack Kerouac?s On The Road. The move away from conformity and towards more of an individualistic mentality began in the somewhat closed circles of the Beat movement and spread throughout America during the sixties. As a consequence, it s range is limited to 200 kilometers in length of river mouths and tidal rivers off the coast of Florida, making it the seagrass with the most limited distribution in the world. It s leaves are about 2 5 cm in length. This seagrass is tolerant of variations in salinity but is not tolerant of damage caused by human boating activities and actions including anchoring and dredging. Coral reefs are already disappearing at astonishing rates and siltation is even more detrimental to their survival. Since the number of acres of seagrass off the coast of Florida has decreased significantly in the past 65 years, it is especially concerning that Johnson s seagrass reproduces asexually because The plant has a reduced capacity to repopulate an area if lost due to human or environmental perturbations (Johnson s Seagrass Recovery Team, 12). The objective of this research is to determine whether or not Johnson s seagrass endangerment is correlated to the amount of detrimental pollutants that humans are putting in aquatic ecosystems such as excess nitrates and oil from dredging. The critical prediction in this experiment is that as the concentration of a pollutant in the water Johnson s seagrass grows in increases, the amount of growth decreases over time. The dry weight of the plant over time would decrease when grown in polluted water when comparing the dry weight of the plant when grown in clean water.
