CHAPTER ONE
INTRODUCTION:
PURPOSE OF THIS THESIS
1.Introduction
The theories and study on the multinational corporations (MNCs) internationalisation has been
prominent in the international business (IB) studies for many decades. Though earlier studies were
dominated by firms from the advanced economy in Europe, USA, and Japan. Therefore, is not
surprising that theories of MNCs internationalisation or foreign direct investment (FDI) would
reflect on the behaviour and perspectives of advanced economies firms. Such theories, for example,

While the study of the internationalisation process of Sub Saharan Africa (SSA) firms in terms of
their evolution and internationalisation have received less attention. Particularly, research on the
internationalisation of Nigerian firms are still under explored (Bolaji Chris, 2014; Boojihawon
Acholonu, 2013; Ibeh, 2003; Ibeh, Wilson, Chizema, 2012) Even though, many SSA firms have
emerged as high profile multinationals increasingly engaged in foreign expansion especially across
the region. Such firms for examples include MTN, First Bank of Nigeria, Eco bank of Senegal,
Dangote, ShopRite, Equity Group holdings, GlobalCom, SABMiller of South Africa, InterSwitch
and Computer Warehouse Group to mention a few. These multinationals have emerged from
different sectors of the economy, for example taking advantage of their home country favourable
economic policies and domestic growth to internationalise (Initiative for Global Development and
Dalberg Global Development, 2011; William, 2013).
In contrast to the attention given to the study of developed economy, Asia, and Latin America
firms, SSA firms have received less attention from international

Procter Gamble s Impact On The World
On May 6, 2010 the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell nearly 1,000 points in five minutes. That
means the Dow lost about $1 Trillion in market value at a rate of $3,333,333,333.33 per second.
Strangely, 30 minutes later the market rebounded gaining back nearly all that was lost. Who s to
blame for such an event? A better question may be, What is to blame? The media immediately
blamed high frequency trading. It took the government three months of research with a team of
more than 20 investigators to achieve an inconclusive result with little to no forward guidance as to
how to prevent it from happening again. Why? Because high frequency trading is not illegal and it
is not unethical, it s just plain complicated.
During the Flash Crash, as the media coined it, individuals lost millions, companies lost billions
and stock prices had essentially bottomed. According to the Financial Times, ...Procter Gamble s
share price fell 37 percent at one point (Legacy, 2013) and shares in management consultancy firm
Accenture...dropped from $40 to 1 CENT (Legacy, 2013). For these things to have happened, it is
pretty obvious that something superhuman was at work. In this case, it was actually supercomputers.
There is a method of stock trading known as Algorithmic Trading. As the name implies, algorithms
are used to make buy and sell orders in the stock market. A subset of Algorithmic Trading, known
as High Frequency Trading (HFT), was blamed by the media for the Flash Crash.

Examples Of Stereotypes In Friday Night Lights
The stadium lights blind everyone. Crowds of people of all color cheering as the Pepettes stand at
the bottom of the bleachers. They shout enthusiastic cheers with bright smiles as the Permian
Panthers run in. This was the peak of all of Odessa s Friday night. This was Friday Night Lights.
H.G Bissinger s Friday Night Lightsis a nonfiction novel about a small high school footballteam in
Odessa, Texas. It was focused during the year of 1988; Permian High Schoolwas desegregated a few
years earlier. Odessa came together to support the football team every week no matter what.
However, the town itself was riddled in prejudice towards those of different race. Bissinger uses
this novel to put emphasis on the portrayal of racism in a small town... Show more content on

Before the time of integration, Odessa was split into two. There was a white and a minority
community which similar to the Berlin Wall had railroad tracks that inevitably ran through the
heart of town (Bissinger, 91). The famous phrase from the wrong side of the railroad tracks
describes the minority community. The black population lived in poverty, while the write
population enjoyed their riches. However, once desegregation came into Odessa, the minorities
that could afford it, moved into the rich neighborhoods and soon everything was integrated. It,
nonetheless, was not perfect, racism still ran deep within their roots, but it was progress. In the
beginning of the 1988 football season, Boobie Miles suffered from a severe ACL injury, which
forced him to quit playing this season. As a result, his assistant coach automatically thinks
poorly of Boobie, believing he is a quitter because he is no longer a star. He then compares
Boobie to a lame horse, who needs to be shot because he can no longer perform (Bissinger, 284).
This causes a lot of problems for Boobie but luckily his uncle, LV, is there to support him.
Bissinger describes many conflicts between the different races to explore the prejudice and racist
thinking of this

How Controlled Burns Improve Forestry Essay
Thousands upon thousands of acres are lost in forest fires every year. We always hear about the
dramatic losses caused by forest fires and are often concerned by them. There are so many
horrible effects from fires and most of them affect so many people. Studies have shown that out of
all of the different methods to decrease fire damage, prescribed burnsare the most affective. Many
people would argue that they are not as affective because they cause so many health problems.
Although that is a very important view and may seem valid, those health issuesare not as extreme as
one might think. People should look at the majority of the benefits form prescribed burns and they
will see how affective and important they are.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are also so many animals that go along with the damage from the fires because they are
living in the middle of it and do not have any where to go. It makes sense that actions such as
controlled burns should be done because so much could be prevented. Then again there are so
many people who argue against them because they are a disruption to the environment. Fire
experts argue that prescribed burns are vital for reducing the risk of catastrophic blazes and
restoring ecosystems that evolved with fire (Tobin 2). If a great deal of damage could be
prevented, I do not see why there should be any concern. This is especially important when you
look at what more damage is done to the environment during a huge forest fire compared to on from
a petite controlled burn.
It is so horrible to see all of that timber go to waste. Our society depends on timber a lot and we
need so much of it to produce so many useful goods. What would happen if we did not have any
timber to make homes or proved some type of shelter? We would be lost and have no where to
go. Prescribed burns can prevent that great loss of timber and save a lot of trees. Although one
purpose of controlled burns is to curve paths for huge forest fires, they are also used to freshen up
the area. If an area of trees is left untreated from prescribed burns, the sands are expected to decline
in growth (Mitchell 1). Also, to ensure a healthy forest,

Analysis Of Kalmen Wewryk s Sobibor And Back
The Nazi rise to power led to the deaths of over 6 million Jewish people; those who were lucky
enough to survive have shed light on the sheer depth of the atrocities committed against them. The
story to Sobibor and Back by Kalmen Wewryk offers insight into the brutalization and
dehumanization faced by himself and many other Jewsduring the invasion of Polandand his time at
Sobibor. This essay will investigate the methods used by Nazi oppressors to brutalize and
dehumanize their victims. Furthermore, it will investigate Wewryk s reaction to such atrocities and
the techniques he used to stay alive.
The German invasion of Poland was simply known as the blitzkrieg . This onslaught was one of
precision and speed, the new German tactic, allowed them to secure Poland within a matter of
weeks. Wewryk witnessed this in the small town of Chelm in Poland. Within a week or so of
German bombers flying overhead, the town was filled with the Germans. However, the
intermittent period prior to the occupation of Poland was the first time that Wewryk faced severe
anti Semitism. The polish police force had lost its power, and heads of military outfits were
abandoning their positions. All forms of regulation were falling apart. The poles who were residing

Caster Enhanced, because this plan covers fewer services (University of Phoenix, 2011). For E
Editors, the premium charged for this plan is $4,491, and earnings are $7.19 million (University
of Phoenix, 2011). For E Editors, the premium charged for Castor Standard is $3,485 and
earnings are $5.58 million (University of Phoenix, 2011). The risks and returns in this plan are
low (University of Phoenix, 2011). A comparison of the expected utilization and the returns from
providing Castor Standard to this group shows that the risks are quite high, and earnings from
this plan are not sufficient to cover them (University of Phoenix, 2011). This plan is not the best
choice of plan for E Editors because one could mitigate risks by providing a different plan or by
not insuring the group (University of Phoenix, 2011). Risk adverse customers buy health
insurance to avoid losing income or wealth when indisposed (University of Phoenix, 2011). The
insurance company in this case Castor Collins bears the risk in return for the premium and takes
care of enrollees medical expenses (in part or full) when indisposed (University of Phoenix, 2011).
The premium that Castor Collins receives is a source of revenue (University of Phoenix, 2011). It is

Joint Light Tactical Vehicle ( Jltv )
Introduction
The joint light tactical vehicle (JLTV) is being destined to initiate a new era of the U.S. military
tactical vehicle that is designed to meet universal requirements for the future warfare and in hostile
environments. Thus, at the same time, Joint Light Tactical Vehicle (JLTV) has been offering

In addition, enhanced survivability and both strategic and operational transportability by sea and
air are also crucial for the JLTV project requirements. The primary mission of the Joint Light
Tactical Vehicle (JLTV) is to provide protected, sustained, and networked light tactical mobility to
the Joint forces, capable of worldwide deployment across the full spectrum of military operations
and mission profiles under all weather and terrain conditions.
In addition, it has been designed that the JLTV would support C3 in both immobile and mobile
modes, various wider ranges in complex and dynamic operational environments.
Nevertheless, initial concept composed of three variants based on different payload capabilities,
four passenger Combat Tactical Vehicle (CTV) and a two passenger Combat Support Vehicle
(CSV) variants were survived as a final choice. The Joint Requirements Oversight Council (JROC)
of the DoD that provides a close oversight to joint acquisition programs and makes
recommendations to the Defense Acquisition Board has approved the JLTV program which would
be led by the Army in November 2006.
It was notable that, even though, joint Army/Marine Corps had intended to issue a Request for
Proposal (RFP) for Technology Development Phase by October 2007, the Pentagon s acquisition
executive, John Young disapproved the issuance of the RFP due to deep concern on funding
adequacy, technical maturity, and shifting requirements.

Analysis Of Nella Larson s Passing, And Amiri Baraka s...
Much of American Literature written in the 1900 s detail the experiences of race within America,
being that slavery had only recently been abolished. Society in no way viewed African American s
as equal to white American s. At this time, blacks were forced to fight to be viewed as a full
person, worthy of basic human rights. Nella Larson s Passing, and Amiri Baraka s The Dutchman,
both call attention to the racial tensions in a post Civil War America, by exposing the manipulation
of the endemic racism within our culture, and the effect that it has on the way the African American
community interacts within itself through the use of an extended metaphor.
Both Clare and Lula represent the idea that the White Americancommunity uses its ... Show more

brains and culture of many African Americans. While detailing her experience with passing to
Irene, Clare explains that, It s such a frightfully easy thing to do. If one s the type, all that s
needed is a little nerve (25). She explicitly stated, It s even worth the price (28). However, as the
novel progresses Clare changes her attitude and begins to share the horrors of passing with Irene.
Clare knows the consequences that she would experience from the white community, she would
lose her daughter Margery, her marriage, and all the physical comforts in life that she had gained
from passing. Yet it s not only these fears that keeps her living the lie that is passing, it is also the
deeply rooted feelings of inferiority that were instilled in all colored people.
Both Clay and Irene are representative of the effect that racial tensions and endemic racism has on
the way the African American community interacts within itself. Clay represents the standard
African American male at the inevitable cultural crossroad experienced by almost all Black
Americans. Clay grapples with embedded racism and self insecurity over his racial and cultural
identity. Clay reveals to have comprehension and understanding of French literature, a college level

Analysis Of A Hunger Artist
How can one expect his or her work to perpetually stay in fashion without adapting it to the taste of
the public? Novelties naturally draw more people than constancy, since the new is always more
interesting than the old. This is an unchangeable nature of humanity. One of the major stimulating
factors to the technological advancement of humanity is the fact that they look for newer and or
more interesting things to replace the old. Anyone who aims to gain and maintain popularity must
understand this essential principle to be successful. It is contradictory for one to continuously retain
popularity while not providing interest stimulating factors. Kafka proves this theory through the
melancholy life of the protagonist in A Hunger Artist. The artist s performance was once popular
within his community because the public found the suffering of the artist sparks excitement.
However, as time pass people lost interest in watching him suffer. The artist unrealistically expects
the public to be as passionate as he is for fasting which caused him to blame the public for
misunderstanding him. The hunger artist is someone who refuses to adapt his art to the public
while expecting the popularity. Through the depiction of the miserable life of the hunger artist,
Kafka conveys the message that it is impossible to attain fashionability and maintain an unchanging
mindset in the ever evolving nature of society.
It is nearly impossible for the public to be passionate about every product just

Had a research work been incomplete and perfect, there would not have been a necessity to

and evident from the above research findings that there cannot be any research that could be termed
Perfect , in this world. It is my opinion about research. It is obvious that my opinion stands for the

could be understood better by experimenting rather than seeking an explanation. If you are not

The Culper Spy Ring And The Revolutionary War
Intelligence provided by the Culper Spy Ring was instrumental in the defeat of the British during
the Revolutionary War. Picture this: Benedict Arnold, one of the United State s (U.S.) most
infamous traitors and John Andre are successful in conspiring to attack West Point in 1780 ( The
Culper Spy Ring, 2010). General George Washington becoming captured or killed would be a
secondary effect of Arnold s treasonous act. The U.S. Army losing the Revolutionary War and
securing any chance of independence from King George III would be the third and final order of
effect. From 1778 to 1783 the Culper Ring identified key British movements, plans in New York
and surrounding areas, and fortifications of enemy forces. Together they used tradecraft practices to
gain intelligence; such practices included: code names, secret writing, enciphered communication,
couriers, dead drops, and signal sites ( The Founding Fathers of American Intelligence, 2008)....

Symbolism InThe Lamb, By William Blake
The poem The Lamb written by William Blake is a part of his collection of poems called Songs
of Innocence. His outlook on life when writing this collection of poems was optimistic and
showed his great appreciation for life and especially nature. In this poem, which is pastoral in
nature, Blake uses imagery to emphasize the innocence (bordering on naivety) that he sees in
the world. This works in tandem with Blake s pleasant diction to create a tone of comfort and
well being, which reflects the optimistic point of view that Blake had on life. Additionally the
religious symbolism throughout the poem highlights the love that the speaker as well Blake feels
towards nature and all living beings. Through the pleasant diction, the imagery of innocence and
the religious symbolism, Blake spreads his message and belief that all aspects of life are pure and
are deserving of love because they were all created by a benevolent and generous god. Blake
consistently chooses words that create a feeling of safety and welcoming. In the opening stanza
Blake creates an overall sense of well being and comfort. First, he describes the lamb s setting;
Blake illustrates a stream by which the lamb feeds. By doing this right away, Blake subtly
incorporates the idea of nature which is characteristic of pastoral poems. Blake views nature as a
beautiful work of art which deserves to be appreciated, this is reflected in his choice of the word
stream, as opposed to another body of water such as a

Animal Experimentation And Animal Experiments
Imagine living inside a locked closet without any control over any aspect of your life. You can t
choose when and what you eat, how you will spend your time, whether or not you will have a

experiments have to face. Animal experimentation is the use of animals in scientific research.

The Pew Research Center poll has found that fifty percent of United States adults oppose the use of
animals in scientific research, and the other surveys suggest that the shrinking group that does
accept animal experimentation does so because they believe it to be necessary for medical progress
(What is Animal Testing?). There are also several other claims for animal experimentation. One
claim is that there is no adequate alternative to testing on a living system, but that is a fallacy
because there are several other successful scientific methods to test on a living system. More
arguments for animal experimentation is that animals do not have rights so it is acceptable to
experiment on them, religious traditions allow for human dominion over animals, and that health
organizations in the United States endorse animal testing (Animal Testing). All of these statements
claim human superiority and rhetorically is an appeal to authority. Animals actually do have
cognitive ability and feelings like humans do, so they should be given the same ethical rights that
we have. Animal rights activists use logos and pathos to convey their side of the argument. Logos
is used to prove that performing on animals is not better than performing on animals. We could give
humans microdoses of a certain medication and get the same or more accurate results. Pathos is

Differences in Dialect when Allowing Students Free-reign...
When talking with friends or people that you re just comfortable with in general, most of the
time you may say some things you wouldn t dare say in front of a parent or teacher. However,
for this assignment we had the chance to have free reign over the topic, how we expressed
ourselves and the extent that it was taken. The conversation flowed like running water and was
never stagnant. We were able to have lengthy discussions about real issues that mattered to us, and
not talk about something from a tired school curriculum. Dialect definitely varies depending on
the person, or the group for that matter. Most teenager s dialect changes according to their
environment. To increase their probability of getting a job they may speak more academically or

Critically Evaluate the Management Model of Baumol
Under the traditional economic understanding, it is always assumed that profit maximization is
treated as the main goal or objective for businesses, subject to perfect knowledge, single entity
and rational logic. However, as illustrated by the principal agency problem, managers do not
usually make rational decision entirely like owners who take company interest as their sole basis
for their decisions. Past examples have shown that managers do take their own personal goals and
satisfactions as consideration in their decision making. In addition, information gathering is not
always perfect as managers do make decision by relying solely on the implicit knowledge gained
from past experiences, without referencing to the macro economic... Show more content on

As service providers, consistent and frequent service failure could prove to be fatal in term of
their survival and their long term brand reputation. Therefore it would make sense for
telecommunication firms to divert the peak hours traffic into non peak hours by using a price
discrimination strategy which segments the users based upon their willingness and abilities to
pay. For instance, business users are willing to pay higher price for peak hours usage due to
their inelastic demand whereas in contrast, leisure users demand is elastic and are willing to
make call during off peak hours in return for lower price. By adopting the price discrimination
strategy, telecommunication firms are able to maximize sales revenue during peak and off peak
hours by balancing the air time traffic based upon different market segment of users. At this point,
it is also noticeable that one of the characteristics of Baumol firms lies in the perishable products
/services offered which cannot be inventoried. The loss sale of the day on the unutilized capacity
/outputs is an opportunity cost to the firms. Baumol model is not only applicable to huge/large
corporations, but also to small retailers like bakery shop or wet market, which explains the reason
why some bakery shops offer a special discount one

Not only the earliest people know the existent of the plant, but also made use of the plant as

Perfect Octave-Personal Narrative
So I am not going lie. I have never been to a concert but I will be talking about a life changing
event I had with music in this essay. I would have to say life as a whole can be perfect and will
have it ups and downs no matter where you see you it. But for this paper I would have to start in
school. Like any other day I would have to say, it s like a Tuesday or maybe a Wednesday, but we
as a class were going into the studio. As we enter you talk about having a deeper relationship
with the song and not just saying oh that so good or oh god that was perfect . There s other ways
of saying that and even a deeper way of saying of that was a perfect Octave. But after each song
play there will be some kind of feeling being left.
Music is the one thing in this world that we all share if we like it or not. We won t all ways have
the same taste but there enough to be shared and show. Music is a vocal or instrumental sounds
(or both) combined in such a way as to produce beauty of form, harmony, and expression of
emotion. And if you have that kind of feeling into your music then what is the point of having it.
Music can make you feel love, gloom, calm, happiness, and even other feelings you might not

Persuasive Essay On Child Welfare
Imagine you and your siblings living in a house where your father is violent and your mother is
struggling to protect herself and her seven children. Imagine these people come to your house
and take you and your siblings away from your parents, split you up, and send you to different
houses, hours away from each other. Imagine later on finding out your mother is dead and your
father does not want to take you back. Imaging moving again, and again, and again. Imaging being
in abusive households, houses in areas so rural there is no internet, moving schools over and over
again. Imaging going to five different primary schools. Imagine being a teenager and not being
able to tell anyone, lying about the number of siblings you have, lying through your teeth day after
day because you cannot pick up the courage to tell anyone. Imagine if this was you.
When I say the words poor child welfare you may think of the children who are living in poverty
or the children who are employed in child labour, or children who live in the middle of war zones.
What you might not think of is the children struggling right beneath our noses the homeless
children, children in foster care, or children in abusive households. There are several reasons why I
have chosen to focus on children, rather than all 7.5 billion people globally. This is because
children keep the human race going, and children should not go through what some do.

Revised Speech On Voting Rights
Revised Speech One
Dear friends, and to all that are gathered here today at the Pnyx, what I come to talk to you about
today is voting rights. I have come to appeal to your logical sides, as opposed to your emotional
ones. Any Athenian of sound mind cannot make an argument against voting rights for slaves and
Metics. Metics, as we all know, are the foreign residents of Athens, however, many of our Metics
are Athenian born. Our current definition of citizenship is outdated and should be adjusted. As it
now stands, the only true Athenian citizens are those born in Athens to both Athenian born
parents. If you are born in Athens to parents who are not citizens, you are not a citizen. It is as
simple as that, but should it be? Those metics who were born and raised in Athens, or whom
helped us contribute to the war in some significant way, should be granted citizenship. In Athens,
as we stand today, Metic are not allowed the right to own property, which, as we all know is
crippling in our society. They are however forced to pay taxes. Taxed without rights to vote or to
serve on our juries. They pay to be excluded. This willingness to remain in Athens as opposed to
wherever they may have originated from, or where their parents may have originated from, should
be taken as a compliment on our part. The city we run, is such that they are not only willing to stick
around through that, but that they stuck with us through a losing war. A majority of our medics are
wealthy and intelligent people. Some among us, the Solonians, believe that wealthy, and therefore
intelligent, business minded peoples should control the government of Athens, but then would turn
around and tell you that these wealthy, and therefore intelligent, individuals should not be granted
citizenship. Solon himself has been said to have offered Athenian citizenship to those foreigners
who would relocate to his city and earn a trade. How can the origin of one s parents change so
much about a person? Lysias for example, a wealthy medic, helped us to regain our city from the
tyrannical rule of the thirty tyrants by donating a large sum of money to my cause. I have, as of this
moment, not pay Lucius back, and yet here he sits, Not hounding me for the

How Did Philosophy Influence Ancient Greek Society
Greek Philosophy has not only shaped western civilization today, but it influenced ancient Greek
society as well. With the Philosophers emerged a new type of citizen, someone who wanted to
contribute to society and better themselves through study. Greek philosophers such as Plato and
Aristotle transformed how people thought, and many modern philosophers continue to ponder the
same questions that they asked, today. Greek philosophychanged ancient Greek society because it
helped start and develop democracy, it set certain social expectations, and it shaped Greek culture.
The foundation of democratic thought is the idea that all men are equal. A big part of this equality
was that all citizens could voice their own opinions. Speech was vital... Show more content on

Pythagoras s approach combined sciences and religion, he also invented the Pythagorean theorem
and deductive reasoning (Violatti, Ancient History Encyclopedia). People began to re approach
traditional questions that had previously been answered through religion and superstition.
Furthermore, Socrates started a new approach by focusing entirely on moral and psychological
questions, rather than questions about the tangible world (Violatti, Ancient History
Encyclopedia). A major advance was the discovery of Astrology. Ptolemy thought that the Earth
stood fixed at the center of the universe, with crystalline spheres within spheres whirling around
it. In balance, the universe had a vast influence on earthly events, which was the basis for the
belief in Astrology (Ptolemy, b.k. I.II 3 7). In that ideal world of ideas, one can experience the real
forms, which are perfect and universal. Our world is an imperfect parody of the Platonic flawless
and superior world of Ideas (Plato, The Republic, 4.1, 419 34). As people strived to get to the ideal
world they came up with many inventions in areas such as astrology, mathematics, and the sciences
as well as more philosophical questions (Violatti, Ancient History Encyclopedia). Asking and
answering these questions helped the Greeks understand the world around them. The influential
philosopher Aristotle made the idea of logic and reason a trademark of ancient Greek culture
(Violatti, Ancient History Encyclopedia). Aristotle s logic system consists of five treatises known
as the Organon, and although it does not exhaust all logic, it was a pioneering one, revered for
centuries and regarded as the ultimate solution to logic and reference for science. Philosophy in the
ancient world not only changed Greek society but also influenced future

The Effect of Education on Economic Growth
The Effect of Education on Economic Growth
Abstract
Education is one of the primary factors of development. Countries can t achieve economic
development without investment in human capital. Vocational training and higher education equip
a worker to perform certain jobs or functions .It improves the quality of their lives and leads to
social benefits to individuals and society like improving income distribution. Education increase

This function is not accurate because it doesn t take into account the quality or type of education an
individual has. Human capital is also an important variable in the variation wage function which is
hard to measure too. Human capital includes some feature such as education, work experience, and
health. To estimate human capital, scholars Suggested quantitative measures of quality include
costs per student, library expenditures, number of earned doctorates among Faculty and
administrators, and student faculty ratios. However, this estimation of human capital is not
accurate too. Some scholars argue pupil teacher ratio is alternative measure of resources invested in
education which measure the quantity of education but not the quality. Further more, some research
didn t use the system approach (input, throughputs, and output.) which made some scholar to
believe it underestimate the effect of education spending by failing to observe the possible indirect
effect on economic growth. All these inaccurate measures and disagreements make it difficult to
compare the findings of empirical studies to determine how strong the effect of investment in
human capital to promote growth rates of the economy, but macroeconomists in many research
stressed the importance of education to promote growth.
Theory and previous research
Many previous researches have asserted that education effect economic growth positively. The main

Yellow Woman And A Beauty Of The Spirit Summary
Silko uses a unique structure in her essay Yellow Woman and a Beauty of the Spirit to help her
get her points across to the reader. She uses the effectiveness of the structure to make her points
clear, convincing, but also engaging. She begins the essay by talking about how she is different.
She explains the past of her Great Grandfather to help explain why she is different. She continues
to talk about other family members throughout the essay that influenced her. These examples
help make her points clear and convincing. The structure is effective because of the evidence
provided in her stories that show how she overcame the feeling that she is different. Silko begins
her essay saying how she was different from her playmates as a child. From the time I was a
small child, I was aware that I was different. I looked different from my playmates. My two sisters
looked different too. After she stated this, she talks about why she was different from the other

looked at me and said Not you, he said.... Silko was very surprised but also embarrassed as she

General Grain Theory Case Study
The third part of the general strain theory is the removal of positively valued stimuli. The
removal of positively valued stimuli could include many things. Some things that could be
involved in negative stimuli could be the death of a family member/friend, the loss of a
relationship, the loss of a substance that one might be addicted to, (coffee, drugs, videogames
etc.) the loss of previously owned money, or even the loss of a cell phone. The removal of
positively valued stimuli could include anything that was valued and then is taken away by some

administering the Woodcock Johnson III Tests of Cognitive Abilities (WJ III COG). In the past
studies have been conducted on graduate student errors made on other assessment of cognitive
abilities, such as the Wechsler Scales. This study s findings were similar to previous studies. The
study participants consisted of 36 graduate students who attended a schoolpsychology program at a
metropolitan university. There were 31 females and 5 males, of which there were 30 Caucasian, 4
Latino, 1 Asian and 1 African American. All of the students were first year students, enrolled in
cognitive assessment courses taught by the same professor (Ramos, 2009, pp. 653). All students
were required to administer the WJ III COG 4 times, first to a classmate, and then 3 more times to
volunteers. The first administration for each student was not considered for the study, which
produced 108 testing administrations. These administrations and scoreswere then examined by
advanced level graduate students taught by the same professor. The instrument used for scoring
the administrations was a checklist first created by Schermerhorn and Alfonso, and was designed
to record the frequency and types of errors made during the administration and scoring of the test
(Ramos, 2009, pp. 653). After each of the 108 tests were scored using the checklist, it was found
that there were 500 errors made. While the mean

Finland And American Education System
In the 1970 s, Finland didn t have a spot at the top of the education chain; in fact they had a poor
education system (NEA). Finland has changed their education system over the past 35 years to
make it better. They have changed their education system to become successful. When looking at
the American educationsystem and the Finland education system there are obvious differences
between the testing, the paths for the students to take, the time management during school hours,
and the classroom environment.
The differences between Finland and American education systems start with the youngest students.
Finland students start school at a later age than American students. In Finland their students don t
start school until they reach the age of seven years old, where as in America the students start
school when they reach the age of five. Finland also doesn t focus on testing their younger students.
Instead, they focus on play and teaching their younger students how to understand their way of
think and learn. Finland doesn t start testing their students until they enter the fourth grade, around
the age of twelve. In America the testing starts when some students enter pre kindergarten.
In America the Bush era law requires that students in third through eighth grades take tests on their
reading and math skills, then re test again in high school. Determining the number average of tests
that an American student takes is difficult because many states and districts require their

Siemens Electric Motor Works
Background: The Electric Motor Works (EMW) was Siemen s primary producer of low wattage
alternating current (A/C) motors, which sales volume was contributed by 80% of standard motors
and 20% of customized motors. Although the firm had started to alter their program and had
expanded the business in 1974, they still could not decline the price sufficiently to compete with
the lower labour rate in Eastern Bloc competitors. Instead of mass production, EMW changed their
strategy to manufacture efficiently various customized motors. As a result, they received 90% of
orders were for custom motors whereas standard motors still took around 50% of total annual
output in 1987. The firm also identified problems in traditional volume based costing... Show more

Which also allowed the firm to recognise more profitable order. However, they ignored the
opportunity cost when they lost DM550 million in the orders which they abandoned. In addition,
there were 90% of orders from custom motor, about 50% of the total annual output were standard
motors. As the customized order would generate certain amount of cost in order and special
components, the firm should consider whether the profit from custom motors could cover the cost
of it. In terms of profit, the firm accepted DM450 million revenue, which should invest DM50
million in implementation of new strategy and deducted by total cost. The remained amount was
DM38.5 million income profit in 1987.
Using the revenue less variable cost (300.3 million) to know the contribution margin
($237.62/unit), and calculate break even point ($111.2million/$237.62 per unit), it is apparent that
the firm actually sold 1.35% of the break even point. Although the order processing, special
components and annual investment cost a great amount, the new strategy and costing system truly
made the firm profitable.

Race As A Social Construct
Race as a social construct refers to a group that is socially and culturally defined on the basis of
physical criteria. During European colonisation, Europeans came into contact with people from
different areas of the world and after speculating the physical, cultural and social differences
between the groups; these groups were placed in races. By defining racial classifications, racism
ensues. Racism is discriminating, exerting prejudice and or power over a group or individual
based on the belief that an individual s group is superior to another. Shadism is dependant upon the
existence of Racism. Shadism refers to the amount of melanin in a person s skin, which is used to
define a persons worth within that racial category.
Shadism and Racism are both a large part in Hollywood and the casting process.
There has been a recent concentration online on institutional racism in Hollywood; social media
movements have brought attention towards, the casting process and the lack of diversity at the
Oscars. The persistent snubbing of people of colour (POC) in Hollywood is being recognised.
However, has this changed the representation of POC in films?
The upcoming biography, drama, Nina (2016) has been the centre of much controversy and has
consequently, brought about conversations regarding shadism and blackface. In the trailer for the
film, actress Zoe Saldana plays Nina alongside her onscreen personal assistant David Oyelowo.
The trailer received a large amount of criticism due

CHAPTER ONE INTRODUCTION: PURPOSE OF THIS THESIS 1.Introduction The theories and study on the multinational corporations (MNCs) internationalisation has been prominent in the international business (IB) studies for many decades. Though earlier studies were dominated by firms from the advanced economy in Europe, USA, and Japan. Therefore, is not surprising that theories of MNCs internationalisation or foreign direct investment (FDI) would reflect on the behaviour and perspectives of advanced economies firms. • 3. Procter Gamble s Impact On The World On May 6, 2010 the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell nearly 1,000 points in five minutes. That means the Dow lost about $1 Trillion in market value at a rate of $3,333,333,333.33 per second. Strangely, 30 minutes later the market rebounded gaining back nearly all that was lost. Who s to blame for such an event? A better question may be, What is to blame? The media immediately blamed high frequency trading. It took the government three months of research with a team of more than 20 investigators to achieve an inconclusive result with little to no forward guidance as to how to prevent it from happening again. Why? Because high frequency trading is not illegal and it is not unethical, it s just plain complicated. During the Flash Crash, as the media coined it, individuals lost millions, companies lost billions and stock prices had essentially bottomed. According to the Financial Times, ...Procter Gamble s share price fell 37 percent at one point (Legacy, 2013) and shares in management consultancy firm Accenture...dropped from $40 to 1 CENT (Legacy, 2013). For these things to have happened, it is pretty obvious that something superhuman was at work. In this case, it was actually supercomputers. There is a method of stock trading known as Algorithmic Trading. As the name implies, algorithms are used to make buy and sell orders in the stock market. A subset of Algorithmic Trading, known as High Frequency Trading (HFT), was blamed by the media for the Flash Crash. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

However, once desegregation came into Odessa, the minorities that could afford it, moved into the rich neighborhoods and soon everything was integrated. • 5. How Controlled Burns Improve Forestry Essay Thousands upon thousands of acres are lost in forest fires every year. We always hear about the dramatic losses caused by forest fires and are often concerned by them. There are so many horrible effects from fires and most of them affect so many people. Studies have shown that out of all of the different methods to decrease fire damage, prescribed burnsare the most affective. Many people would argue that they are not as affective because they cause so many health problems. Although that is a very important view and may seem valid, those health issuesare not as extreme as one might think. There are also so many animals that go along with the damage from the fires because they are living in the middle of it and do not have any where to go. It makes sense that actions such as controlled burns should be done because so much could be prevented. Then again there are so many people who argue against them because they are a disruption to the environment. Fire experts argue that prescribed burns are vital for reducing the risk of catastrophic blazes and restoring ecosystems that evolved with fire (Tobin 2). If a great deal of damage could be prevented, I do not see why there should be any concern. This is especially important when you look at what more damage is done to the environment during a huge forest fire compared to on from a petite controlled burn. It is so horrible to see all of that timber go to waste. Our society depends on timber a lot and we need so much of it to produce so many useful goods. What would happen if we did not have any timber to make homes or proved some type of shelter? We would be lost and have no where to go. Prescribed burns can prevent that great loss of timber and save a lot of trees. Although one purpose of controlled burns is to curve paths for huge forest fires, they are also used to freshen up the area. • 12. Analysis Of A Hunger Artist How can one expect his or her work to perpetually stay in fashion without adapting it to the taste of the public? Novelties naturally draw more people than constancy, since the new is always more interesting than the old. This is an unchangeable nature of humanity. One of the major stimulating factors to the technological advancement of humanity is the fact that they look for newer and or more interesting things to replace the old. Anyone who aims to gain and maintain popularity must understand this essential principle to be successful. It is contradictory for one to continuously retain popularity while not providing interest stimulating factors. Kafka proves this theory through the melancholy life of the protagonist in A Hunger Artist. The artist s performance was once popular within his community because the public found the suffering of the artist sparks excitement. However, as time pass people lost interest in watching him suffer. The artist unrealistically expects the public to be as passionate as he is for fasting which caused him to blame the public for misunderstanding him. The hunger artist is someone who refuses to adapt his art to the public while expecting the popularity. Through the depiction of the miserable life of the hunger artist, Kafka conveys the message that it is impossible to attain fashionability and maintain an unchanging mindset in the ever evolving nature of society. It is nearly impossible for the public to be passionate about every product just ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 16. Symbolism InThe Lamb, By William Blake The poem The Lamb written by William Blake is a part of his collection of poems called Songs of Innocence. His outlook on life when writing this collection of poems was optimistic and showed his great appreciation for life and especially nature. In this poem, which is pastoral in nature, Blake uses imagery to emphasize the innocence (bordering on naivety) that he sees in the world. This works in tandem with Blake s pleasant diction to create a tone of comfort and well being, which reflects the optimistic point of view that Blake had on life. Additionally the religious symbolism throughout the poem highlights the love that the speaker as well Blake feels towards nature and all living beings. Through the pleasant diction, the imagery of innocence and the religious symbolism, Blake spreads his message and belief that all aspects of life are pure and are deserving of love because they were all created by a benevolent and generous god. Blake consistently chooses words that create a feeling of safety and welcoming. In the opening stanza Blake creates an overall sense of well being and comfort. First, he describes the lamb s setting; Blake illustrates a stream by which the lamb feeds. By doing this right away, Blake subtly incorporates the idea of nature which is characteristic of pastoral poems. I would have to say life as a whole can be perfect and will have it ups and downs no matter where you see you it. But for this paper I would have to start in school. Like any other day I would have to say, it s like a Tuesday or maybe a Wednesday, but we as a class were going into the studio. As we enter you talk about having a deeper relationship with the song and not just saying oh that so good or oh god that was perfect . There s other ways of saying that and even a deeper way of saying of that was a perfect Octave. But after each song play there will be some kind of feeling being left. Music is the one thing in this world that we all share if we like it or not. We won t all ways have the same taste but there enough to be shared and show. Music is a vocal or instrumental sounds (or both) combined in such a way as to produce beauty of form, harmony, and expression of emotion. Imagine these people come to your house and take you and your siblings away from your parents, split you up, and send you to different houses, hours away from each other. Imagine later on finding out your mother is dead and your father does not want to take you back. Imaging moving again, and again, and again. Imaging being in abusive households, houses in areas so rural there is no internet, moving schools over and over again. Imaging going to five different primary schools. Imagine being a teenager and not being able to tell anyone, lying about the number of siblings you have, lying through your teeth day after day because you cannot pick up the courage to tell anyone. Imagine if this was you. When I say the words poor child welfare you may think of the children who are living in poverty or the children who are employed in child labour, or children who live in the middle of war zones. What you might not think of is the children struggling right beneath our noses the homeless children, children in foster care, or children in abusive households. There are several reasons why I have chosen to focus on children, rather than all 7.5 billion people globally. • 25. Revised Speech On Voting Rights Revised Speech One Dear friends, and to all that are gathered here today at the Pnyx, what I come to talk to you about today is voting rights. I have come to appeal to your logical sides, as opposed to your emotional ones. Any Athenian of sound mind cannot make an argument against voting rights for slaves and Metics. Metics, as we all know, are the foreign residents of Athens, however, many of our Metics are Athenian born. Our current definition of citizenship is outdated and should be adjusted. As it now stands, the only true Athenian citizens are those born in Athens to both Athenian born parents. If you are born in Athens to parents who are not citizens, you are not a citizen. It is as simple as that, but should it be? Those metics who were born and raised in Athens, or whom helped us contribute to the war in some significant way, should be granted citizenship. In Athens, as we stand today, Metic are not allowed the right to own property, which, as we all know is crippling in our society. They are however forced to pay taxes. Taxed without rights to vote or to serve on our juries. They pay to be excluded. This willingness to remain in Athens as opposed to wherever they may have originated from, or where their parents may have originated from, should be taken as a compliment on our part. The city we run, is such that they are not only willing to stick around through that, but that they stuck with us through a losing war. A majority of our medics are wealthy and intelligent people. Some among us, the Solonians, believe that wealthy, and therefore intelligent, business minded peoples should control the government of Athens, but then would turn around and tell you that these wealthy, and therefore intelligent, individuals should not be granted citizenship. Solon himself has been said to have offered Athenian citizenship to those foreigners who would relocate to his city and earn a trade. How can the origin of one s parents change so much about a person? Lysias for example, a wealthy medic, helped us to regain our city from the tyrannical rule of the thirty tyrants by donating a large sum of money to my cause. Pythagoras s approach combined sciences and religion, he also invented the Pythagorean theorem and deductive reasoning (Violatti, Ancient History Encyclopedia). People began to re approach traditional questions that had previously been answered through religion and superstition. Furthermore, Socrates started a new approach by focusing entirely on moral and psychological questions, rather than questions about the tangible world (Violatti, Ancient History Encyclopedia). A major advance was the discovery of Astrology. Ptolemy thought that the Earth stood fixed at the center of the universe, with crystalline spheres within spheres whirling around it. In balance, the universe had a vast influence on earthly events, which was the basis for the belief in Astrology (Ptolemy, b.k. I.II 3 7). In that ideal world of ideas, one can experience the real forms, which are perfect and universal. Our world is an imperfect parody of the Platonic flawless and superior world of Ideas (Plato, The Republic, 4.1, 419 34). As people strived to get to the ideal world they came up with many inventions in areas such as astrology, mathematics, and the sciences as well as more philosophical questions (Violatti, Ancient History Encyclopedia). The influential philosopher Aristotle made the idea of logic and reason a trademark of ancient Greek culture (Violatti, Ancient History Encyclopedia).
