There is increasing confidence that cell therapies will soon play a role in the treatment of autoimmune disorders, but the extent of this impact remains to be seen. Early readouts on autologous CAR-Ts in lupus are encouraging, but manufacturing and cost limitations are likely to restrict access to highly refractory patients. Allogeneic CAR-Ts have the potential to broaden access to earlier lines of treatment due to their inherent cost benefits, however they will need to demonstrate comparable or improved efficacy to established modalities.
In addition to infrastructure and capacity constraints, CAR-Ts face a very different risk-benefit dynamic in autoimmune compared to oncology, highlighting the need for tolerable therapies with low adverse event risk. CAR-NK and Treg-based therapies are also being developed in certain autoimmune disorders and may demonstrate favorable safety profiles. Several novel non-cell therapies such as bispecific antibodies, nanobodies, and RNAi drugs, may also offer future alternative competitive solutions with variable value propositions.
Widespread adoption of cell therapies will not only require strong efficacy and safety data, but also adapted pricing and access strategies. At oncology-based price points, CAR-Ts are unlikely to achieve broad market access in autoimmune disorders, with eligible patient populations that are potentially orders of magnitude greater than the number of currently addressable cancer patients. Developers have made strides towards reducing cell therapy COGS while improving manufacturing efficiency, but payors will inevitably restrict access until more sustainable pricing is achieved.
Despite these headwinds, industry leaders and investors remain confident that cell therapies are poised to address significant unmet need in patients suffering from autoimmune disorders. However, the extent of this impact on the treatment landscape remains to be seen, as the industry rapidly approaches an inflection point.

- 2. THE ENDOCRINE SYSTEM The endocrine system works with the other systems, such as the nervous system, to help the body work properly.
- 4. Hormones and glands work as messengers for the body, sending information from one place to another. Glands are a group of cells that make chemicals or hormones that are used by the body for a specific purpose.
- 5. ENDOCRINE GLANDS AND THEIR HORMONES Adrenal Cortex: Glucocorticoids, mineralocorticoids, steroid sex hormones Adrenal medulla: Epinephrine, norepinephrine Ovaries: Estrogen, Progesterone Pancreas: Glucagon, Insulin Parathyroid glands: Parathyroid hormone (PTH) Pituitary anterior lobe: Adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH), Gonadotropins, Gollicle-stimulatin hormone (FSH), Luteinizing hormone (LH), Growth hormone (GH), Melanocyte-stimulating hormone (MSH), Prolactin, Thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) Pituitary posterior lobe: Antidiuretic hormone (ADH), Oxytocin Testes: Testosterone Thymus: Thymosin Thyroid gland: Calcitonin (CT), Thyroxine (T4), Triiodothyronine (T3)
- 6. SUFFIXES AND TERMS Glycos=sugar, -uria=urine condition Glycosuria (glye-kohs-YOO-ree-ah) The presence of sugar or glucose in the urine; having a high level of sugar excreted in the urine. Poly=many, -dipsia=thirst Polydipsia (pall-ee-DIP-see-ah) The excessive feeling of thirst.
- 7. GLYCOSURIA • The pancreas allows for two different hormones to be produced by the the islets cells or endocrine section. Insulin, which stimulates the body to take in glucose from the bloodstream, lowering the body’s blood sugar levels. For example, after a meal has been eaten the carbohydrates, a form of sugar, is absorbed in to the blood stream. Glucagon is the other hormone which stimulates the liver to release glucose, which raises the blood glucose level. Glucagon is released when the body needs more sugar for example, after exercise or several hours after a meal. • Simply, insulin reduces the blood sugar levels while glucagon raises it.

- 9. SYMPTOMS AND CAUSES Glycosuria is caused the body not being able to produce enough insulin. Glucose is not updated through the insulin. The accumulated glucose leads to Glycosuria and hyperglycemia, a condition of having a high level of sugar in the blood. Chronic hyperglycemia and dehydration can lead to diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA) or hyperosmolar hyperglycemic nonketotic syndrome (HHNK).
- 10. POLYDIPSIA Passing urine is a way for the body to get rid of waste. When blood sugar levels are high, the kidneys work harder to produce more urine in order to get rid of the excess sugar. This leaves the person feeling thirsty.

- 12. SYMPTOM AND CAUSES Polydipsia is caused by polyuria which is the production of an excessive amount of urine. It is a symptom of Diabetes insipidus (DI) as well as hyperglycemia (high blood sugar). It can also be due to fluid loss because of something as normal as eating salty food or sweating, due to exercise. In these cases the best thing to do is drink fluids.
- 13. As stated earlier, the endocrine system works in conjunction with the other systems to help the body function properly, each system affecting the other. The same goes within the systems as in the case of glycosuria and polydipsia. Because the body has produced too much sugar, the kidneys work overtime to produce urine to rid the body of the excess sugar, resulting in not only glycosuria, high sugar level in the urine, but also polydipsia, or excessive thirst.
