Cellular transport requires both passive and active mechanisms. Passive transport includes diffusion and osmosis, which move substances according to concentration gradients without energy input. Active transport moves substances against concentration gradients and requires ATP. Examples of active transport are endocytosis, which moves materials into the cell, and exocytosis, which moves materials out of the cell.
