How Did The Stock Market Crash That Led Up To The Great...
People began buying things such as cars and appliances on credit. Many people earned less money
than needed to live a comfortable lifestyle. Businesses were letting people with lower incomes buy
things on credit. Unfortunately the stocks rose faster than the value of the companies they
represented. When the stock marketcollapsed, these people did not have the money to pay back
what they owed. This resulted in financial ruin. Before the stock market crash investors traded
about sixteen million shares on the New York stock exchange each day. After Black Tuesday ,
billions of dollars were lost wiping out thousands of investors. Had most of those investors sold
their stock the day before the crash, they would have received a large profit. The 1929 crash
uncovered another problem in the United States. The nations banking system was in trouble. In
the 1920 s thousands of new banks were opened, however, most lacked adequate money in
reserves. Between 1923 and 1929, banks across the country failed daily, but the general rising
prosperity hid these failures. The crash made a bad situation even worse, and banks failed at a
more rapid rate.

The Dust Bowl lasted longer than eight years. From 1931 1939 the worst drought in United
States history attacked Southern and Midwestern Great Plains states. Crops withered away, the
loosened topsoil was blown away, and gigantic storms of dust swept Oklahoma and Texas all the
way to North Dakota. There were brownish hazes of dirt multiple stories high. The dust storms
affected 27 states and covered over 75 percent of the entire nation. Most farm families left their
lands and headed for California. There were so many migrant workers that officials of California

Computer Technology Research Paper
TECHNOLOGY
ABSTRACT
Is it possible to create a computer which can interact with us as we interact each other? For
example imagine in a fine morning you walk on to your computer room and switch on your
computer, and then it tells you Hey friend, good morning you seem to be a bad mood today. And
then it opens your mail box and shows you some of the mails and tries to cheer you. It seems to
be a fiction, but it will be the life lead by BLUE EYES in the very near future. The basic idea
behind this technology is to give the computer the human power. We all have some perceptual
abilities. That is we can understand each others feelings. For example we can understand ones

Come and See, directed by Elem Klimov
Those that engage in the activity of war can be noted as mad and insane, but some individuals
may also be considered brave souls, and that all depends on the select few that dare to go
through with the entire process of being involved in such a feat. The forces in the war who only
murder to get a rise out of and who continually toy with the on lookers can be portrayed as mad
and insane, while those who decide to join the noble partisans, despite perhaps even being
drafted, to play their part in war were considered to be brave young soldiers. This was exactly the
case in Russian director Elem Klimov s 1985 film Come and See. The main character, Florian, a
boy of fourteen years, is dragged into a war by the force of the Belorussian... Show more content on

The only thing that results from the act of war is endless violence and death, and that in itself
does not seem very kind to the average being, despite having to deal with it, and accepting the fact
that actions such as that would happen in society no matter what is a difficult task that not only the
average being, but also the everyday pacifist and everyone alike, no matter what the circumstance
or situation, all should know of the truth that goes on in the world, no matter how much it hurts,
because it must learn to be accepted by each and every individual sooner or later.
The ironic style of Crane s writing is an element that needs to be given closer and further
inspection and examination until one finally reads between the lines and sees what Crane is trying
to state. His last line of the second stanza of War is Kind , which is refrained a second time at the
end of the fourth stanza,
A field where a thousand corpses lie (Crane 11, 22) can reflect back to Come and See, with both
the bodies in the back of Florian s house and the villagers that were burned to death in the barn.
The way the brave army soldiers and noble partisans are portrayed in Come and See shows them
as serious individuals that would do anything to win what could be considered the most important
war of their entire lives, let alone, just a simple fight. They are portrayed as warriors that will
continue to strike until the bouts

Essay on Warfare and its Psychological Impact
Warfare and its Psychological Impact
Warfare causes many people to suffer from psychological problems. Many times, these problems
come in the form of mental illness. According to the DSM VI, which is the fourth edition of the
Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, a mental disorder is a clinically significant
behavioral or psychological syndrome or pattern that s associated with current distress (a painful
symptom) or disability (impairment in one or more important areas of functioning) or with a
significantly greater risk of suffering, death, pain, disability, or an important loss of freedom. This
syndrome or pattern mustn t be merely an expected, culturally sanctioned response such as grief
over the death of a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are some times when war is the only option, but this is not always the case. Therefore, we
should be more resistant to war. Our new resistance to war will provide a more psychologically
healthy environment.
Those most affected psychologically are those who have fought in war. Traumatic experiences
during war often create psychological problems such as survivor s guilt and guilt from killing
others; another psychological problem that war creates is PTSD (Post traumatic Stress
Disorder). Another group that is seriously affected by war is the loved ones of those killed or
missing in action have to deal with their traumatic death. When a soldier comes home their
families may have to deal with the added stress of having a husband, son or father with PTSD, a
drug abuse problem or alcohol addiction. Dealing with their loved one s problems can cause
friends and family members of the veteran to develop their own psychological problems. For
example, stress can cause depression. Lastly, a whole society is psychologically injured by war.
Some of the issues at this level include: dehumanization, desensitization, and distortion.
Combatants
The psychological effects of war occur partly because killing is not a normal phenomenon. The
sheer number of combatants who become psychological casualties illustrates the fact that killing is
not normal to the human race. Statistics show

Analysis Of The Two Fridas
Frida Kahlo s The Two Fridas is a manifestation of heartbreak, inner human pain, rejection of
colonialism, and emotional journey. An oil on canvas made in 1939 in the midst of Frida Kahlo
s divorce from Diego Rivera, this painting embodied Frida Kahlo s progression at this time in her
life, dealing with what she is and what she wishes to be; as well as setting out how she wishes to
do it. An ode to melancholy and overcoming adversity, The Two Fridas is a universal, eternal
reminder of human capability. The painting is of two versions of Frida Kahlo, closely gripping hands
and sharing one heart between them. They are dressed in contrary clothing, with the Fridaon the left
dressed in modern European garb, while the other to the right is in traditional Mexican clothing.
When viewing the painting, we are immediately attracted to the left Frida, who has nearly all of the
light in the painting shining down on her. Her European clothing, popular in Mexicoat the time,
feels very constricting for both the subject and the viewer, specifically the collar grasping her
neck so very tightly. Her upright and fragile stance and her almost limp grasp of the second
Frida s is understandable as we see the gaping hole where her heart should be. The pulsating
anatomy of her wound bleeds into the room, while her face is completely indifferent. A single
vein connects the hole in left Frida to the heart of right Frida. In left Frida s unclenched hand, a
delicate pair of scissors, indicating that she had wretched the heart out of her own bosom. It is
this connection that guides us to the Frida to the right, but not before we notice the background
behind them. A gray and cloudy backdrop that seems to embody Kahlo s emotional state at the
time, it is hard to distinguish the right Frida from its murky depths. A shadow presiding all
around her, the right Frida is dressed in a traditional Mexican dress, with a posture and facial
expression completely identical to the other Frida s. The most eye catching feature of hers,
however, is the pulsating heart that the left Frida is lacking beating out of her chest. This gruesome
and oblivious picture is made only more extraordinary when we make out the object right Frida is

The Rain Tree in the Valley
Once upon a time, in a beautiful valley, there lived a rain tree. It was tall and big, and very wise,
but many years had past since anyone came to the beautiful valley. The birds and the butterflies
came and went, and the rain tree was lonely. One day, a little squirrel came to the valley to pick
some nuts, and when it ran under the big rain tree, a lily seed dropped out of its furry tail. After a
few days, a little lily popped up from under the big rain tree. It was small and weak, and it would
die soon because the big rain tree took away all the food and water. Every time the rain came, or
the sun shone, the little lily would stretch its toes, or its neck, to get as much food and water as
possible, but every time, the big rain tree would suck up everything. Soon enough, the little lily
was getting weaker, so it decided to set up a partnership with the big rain tree. One day, it spoke
up. Hello sir, may I have a minute? The rain tree, hearing voices for the first time in forever, was
startled. He looked around, but there was no one around. I must be so lonely, he thought, I m
even imagining voices. Sir! Right down here! The little lily raised her voice. The rain tree,
shocked, looked around again. Over here! Lily shouted at the top of her lungs. The rain tree
followed the little voice it heard, and finally, it saw the lily. Well hello there! he said, bending
over. His voice was low, soft and gentle. The little lily smiled, and asked as nicely as she could,

My Personal Statement On My Life
For as long as I can remember, I was told I could do anything I put my mind to if I was willing to
put forth the effort. My parents played the essential role of providing resources that would instill
a good work ethic and passion in me. While my options are limitless, I have spent most of my
academic career preparing me for a future in scientific research and academia. Enumerable factors
have molded me into the passionate person that I am today, so the answer to Who are you? is not
simple but is rather a culmination of life experiences.
I learned the values of respect, honor, and drive from both my biological family and my church
family. I grew up going to Sunday school in the Episcopal Church where I learned what it meant to
have morals and how to be an all around decent human being. At home, my parents taught me
similar values and lead by example while explaining the importance of kindness towards others.
Growing up in the Episcopal Church has grounded me in such a way that I can find a home and
family anywhere in the world simply by finding a church with the iconic red doors. My
spirituality and dedication to service formed me into a caring person who can never say no to
someone in need. The church has always been my outlet where I can find peace and serenity, so in
return I dedicate my time to giving back in honor of all it has provided for me. The Youth Service
Organization (YSO) at my home church taught me the benefits of giving back to a community who

Why The Death Penalty Should Stay Legal
There have been 1466 executions in the United States since 1976. This was the year that the
supreme court reinstated the death penalty. They maintained that is was constitutional under the
8th amendment. The death penalty has been around since the beginning of the United States.
Although there have been many debates and changes made the death penaltyis still used today. The
death penalty should stay legal. It should be used for only the most terrible crimes. If there is no
serious punishment for serious crimes people are more likely to commit them.
America needs to practice the laws that they preach, otherwise what kind of country is that? The
United States is built around the idea of justice. This means to do what is fair and right. If a serial
killer murders five people then gets caught, those families are going to want justice. They are
going to want that man to get what he deserves and for justice to be served. Somebody who takes
another human being s life deserves to be executed. It s not right and it can t be acceptable in the
United States. A country needs to do what is right and what people want. The United States is a
democracy. The people are part of decisions like voting because... Show more content on

The United States uses the death penalty because there has to be a punishment for taking a life.
There is no benefit and no fairness in letting someone who should have been executed spend their
life in prison. It punishes the American people. Executing a prisoner is much cheaper than paying
for them to live in prison. This doesn t mean that people should be sentenced to the death penalty
who don t deserve it just because it s cheaper. This means that if someone earned the punishment
and it will benefit society, then it is the right thing to do. How is it fair that the people of America
are paying for a criminal to live in prison who should have gotten the death

History Of The Cromford Mills
While my time in Manchester was great, the constant days of factory smoke and the sound of
ships docking got too repetitive. I decided to go somewhere else, and that s when I heard about the
Cromford Mills. I heard about a man named Richard Arkwright that has invented something that
changed lots of lives. He invented what was is called a cottonspinning mill. This mill was
amazing. It had increased the amount of spun cotton by an overwhelming amount. But what
really caught my attention was that it did not need a skilled laborer, which fit me perfectly. In mid
1789, I worked my way to Cromford, England where I began my work at the Cromford Mills. I was
one of 800 workers who worked in the mills, and it was great. When I entered the mills for

The Economy Of Honours
Demosthenes claimed that the economy of honours was democratic because it allowed the
population to reward individuals for helping to preserve democracy through philanthropy.
Benefactors or euergetes were encouraged to donate to their city by being rewarded with various
honours. The orator opposed Leptines law, which made no one exempt from liturgies as he
believed that exemptions were one way of honouring men who had helped to preserve democracy
(Demosthenes Against Leptines, 17). One such figure was Leucon, the King of the Bosphorus,
who had provided Athens with grain out of his own generosity (Demosthenes 31). Demosthenes
also disapproved of Leptines law because it diminished the sovereignty of the demos, removing
their freedom to show their appreciation to whoever they chose(Demosthenes 15). In the fourth
century BC, especially after the social war, the economy of Athens had significantly decreased in
wealth and power since the Periclean golden age and could no longer afford such gestures as
paying people to participate in the assembly, aiming to increase political egalitarianism(Finley,
Chatto and Windus1981, p.86). One attempt to increase revenue involved granting honours to
people who donated to the state in order to encourage more benefactions. In order to increase
wealth the state needed to compromise some of it s political equality, allowing individuals to
distinguish themselves more so than previously (Veyne 1976, p.90 91). This inevitable paradox

Symbolism In Battle Royal
The short story, Battle Royal by Ralph Ellison, a blindfold is used as one of the major symbols
of the story. The blindfold symbolizes the narrator s inability to see the battle he is truly up
against. The African American narrator of the short story is invited to give a speech at a
gathering of some of the towns white citizens after successfully delivering the same speech at his
graduation. When the narrator arrives he is subjected to doing horrifying things. One of which is
having to blindly and brutally fight some of his black schoolmates all of whom are also
blindfolded. While the narrator is in the ring taking hard hits, his thoughts return speech. He is so
focused on delivering a speech of quality that will win over the white audience. The narrator states,
The harder we fought the more threatening the men became. And yet, I had begun to worry about
my speech again. How would it go? Would they recognize my ability? What would they give me

Completely delusional, Kurtz exclaims the horror! The horror! and passes away naturally
(Conrad 112). Marlow keeps his loyalty to Kurtz after his death to honor the devotion he felt for
Kurtz when he was alive (Conrad 112). Willard felt a similar devotion to Kurtz, but faced a
different decision. Kurtz was not in the best state of health, but he wasn t actively dying. Kurtz
spared Willard s life when he arrived at his camp unannounced, however, Willard did not spare
Kurtz s life and had to follow the instructions of his mission. Willard murders Kurtz. Willard
opted to kill Kurtz rather than take him back because of the devotion he felt. Kurtz had nothing
to go home to and would have been imprisoned for acting as a rogue officer. By killing Kurtz,
Willard saves him from the horrors he would have been greeted with from the punishment of the
military. The cutting of the film limits Kurtz s murder scene. Instead, a ceremonial cow s sacrifice
by the natives is shown. The ceremonial, sacred cow was valued greatly by the natives, like Kurtz
was by Willard, who remained loyal to Kurtz to the last, and even beyond (Conrad

Analysis Of Friday Night Lights By H. G. Bissinger
Relationships , character, teamwork are all things you learn and build through playing the game of
football and winning doesn t teach those things. The grueling practices, the long hours of film, the

The Huns are best known to be barbaric, or cruel, group that tore down villages and killed people
that got in their way of what they wanted. All people were afraid of the Huns because they were
really mean and destroyed everything when they attacked places. Historians are not sure exactly
where the Hunscame from or what language they spoke, but the Huns did not let anyone or
anything get in their way of what they wanted. The exact origin of the Huns is not exactly known,
but history shows that the Huns lived in Eastern Europe, the Caucasus, and Central Asia. They were
present between the 1st century and the 7th century. The Huns were nomads of the Central Asian
Steppes. They appeared right after the Xiong Nu dynasty disappeared. The... Show more content on

regular warriors did not have any armor. All warriors had a shield and a helmet and they had a

The Mists of Avalon, by Marion Zimmer Bradley Essay
The Mists of Avalon, by Marion Zimmer Bradley
The Mists of Avalon, by Marion Zimmer Bradley, is not only an example of a Medieval
Romance, but also tells the story of the women who stood behind King Arthur during his infamous
reign in the Middle Ages. The term Medieval Romance does not necessarily mean that the piece
using it contains any sort of romance. There are three criteria that must be meet to form a
Medieval Romance. (1) The plot must divide into sharply separate episodes that often do not seem
joined in any obvious casual fashion. (2) The plots generally take the form of tests that they must
pass to attain form goal. (3) The protagonist fails tests, which often involve acts of moral and
spiritual perception, until such a point ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Even though the believers In Avalon thought well of the Christian, the Christians despised those

was she, following the wishes of the Goddess, who set Arthur on the Throne. The High Priestess

Arthurian Legends were always told from a Christian man s perspective, the Lady of the Lake is
looked on as an evil sorceress. In The Mists of Avalon, however, we see Viviane s actions through
Viviane s eyes. This new perspective allows us to see that Viviane worked only for the good of the
people and is not evil. It is in this feminine perspective that we are given more insight into Arthurian
Legend.
Camelot and Avalon were alive in the time of knights, and of war and conquest. Old Arthurian

The Mystery Of The False Confession In Arthur Miller s The...
The Mystery of the False Confession Noah White Ms. Maney American Literature 12/10/2017
In post 9/11 America, one of the most debated topics is the use of torture and unreliable
interrogation techniques to extract information from suspects. Said use of torture is considered
not only heinous but somewhat notorious for producing unreliable and false confessions. In
Arthur Miller s The Crucible, a spotlight is shined on this topic by the situation of the Salem
Witch Trials in which so called witches are forced to confess to their non existent offenses by
threat of hanging. Considering these points, the question must be asked; why are false
confessions so prevalent and why do they occur? One of the earliest recorded instances of a
false confessions was the confession of Robert Hubert in 1666 after the Great London Fire. The
London fire destroyed thousands of houses, businesses, 87 churches, and killed tens of thousands
of people. And the man who confessed to starting it? A disabled man in a wheelchair who wasn t
even in London on the day that it started. It is speculated that Robert Hubert, after slight
suspicion on behalf of the king, was interrogated or even tortured for a confession. According to
Rob Jones of History of Forensic Psychology, Despite the many obvious flaws and impossibilities
in Hubert s confession, a scapegoat was needed (Jones 1). Only around the 1980 s did psychologists
and other social scientists begin to truly investigate the phenomena of the false

Gun Ownership In Early America Summary
In the article Gun Ownership in Early America: A Survey of Manuscript Militia Returns by Robert
Churchill, he discusses how gun ownership in the early 18th and 19th centuries was scarce and at
times the armed militias were the only people who had guns at all. It was because of this that the
government made gun ownership exceptional. This is different from today when gun ownership is
everywhere. Due to the high concentration of guns sometimes it is hard to count how many are
sold in the United Statesevery year. To learn that guns, at one time, were almost non existent is
almost hard to believe. In the article, the author talks about Michael Bellesiles a historian who first
wrote on gun ownership in America in 1996. Bellesiles was the... Show more content on

Unlike the 18th and 19th centuries, the government today is much against gun ownership. So much
so that they have enacted gun control laws that would take all guns away from American citizens.
Though guns can be dangerous in the wrong hands, Americans have the right to bear arms. To take
gun ownership away would mean destroying the Constitutional right of every American. Instead of
gun control everyone that buys a gun they should undergo an intense back ground check and be
required to attend gun ownership classes to learn how to safely use the weapon. In the article it is
stated that most guns in the 18th and 19th centuries were owned by younger men and boys. This
would suggest that younger men in those centuries were more mature than those of today. Back
then people had to fend for themselves because money was not as prevalent as it is today, so
owning a gun was more of a necessity. Now when younger people possess a fire arm the outcome
is more violent. The damage inflicted by young people with guns in the last decade has been some
of the worst America has ever witnessed. The Sandy Hook shooting being the most recent string of
school related gun violence. In the 18th and 19th centuries, this type of behavior was never
recorded, but the population was sparser and children then did not have violent videogames, TV

Context In The Old Testament
Context is the influence of circumstances around a setting, event, or situation. In our understanding
of the Old Testament, context has played a tremendous role. Whether it is literary, geographical,
or social, each one strongly affected the writing of the Old Testament. Artifacts found from the
time of the Old Testament, such as old tools or early forms of writing, like the Mesha Inscription
and the Merneptah Stele, also provide context, helping our understanding of the way in which the
Israeli people lived. Many of the stone tools discovered show us that humans have lived in the
Palestinian region for millions of years; however, the tools found of the Israelites show us they
settled on the hills of Palestine instead of on the Coastal plain.

The world is filled with different kinds of hatred caused by different reasons. For instance, people

Analysis Of Living Under Circe s Spell Letter
The personal essays Living Under Circe s Spell written by Matthew Soyster and On Being a
Cripple written by Nancy Mairs both share experiences and what it is like to live life as a person
that suffers from Multiple Sclerosis, otherwise known as MS, through the use of pathos, and
patterns. Both of these authors appeal to the readers emotions while talking about their life and
how difficult it is to live with such a disease. Soyster and Mairs create patterns as they
continually talk about their past lives. They always refer back to the past, which shows the reader
how some people can live in the past or can simply learn from it. The authors bring up different
opinions of living with MS by creating their tones when using pathos and patterns. Soyster and
Mairs use pathos and patterns to strengthen their essays and convey their lives as a person suffering
from the Multiple Sclerosisdisease. Soyster s Living Under Circe s Spell and Mairs s On Being a
Cripple both use emotional appeals to describe how living with Multiple Sclerosis truly is. The
authors use of pathos helps the reader to connect to Soyster and Mairs s stories more and really
understand and sympathize with them. Soyster s use of pathos is more to show how hard and
deep it strikes you to find out that you have MS and the sense of defeat that one gains from it.

Each building, especially, the historical ones has a function, for which it was built, and a style
carried with messages to convey for the people. The Greek and the Roman buildings are the best
examples of the buildings, which tells a lot about their cultures. So, this essay will discuss two
buildings from the ancient eras, their differences, and similarities. The first one is the Parthenonin
Athens while the other is the Pantheon in ancient Rome. Also, it will explain how the style and use
of these buildings served as a typical example of their culture. The Pantheon is a Roman temple,

So, the Romans, using it in such an important temple, wanted to talk about their strength,
architectural skills, and ability to innovate.
Moving to the other building swiftly, the Parthenon in Athens is a Greek temple. It was built in
432 B.C. in the Age of Pericles. Hence, it was built when the Athenian Empire was at the top of its
power. The word
Parthenon was derived from Athena epithets: Athena Parthenos, which means Virgin. (Cartwright,
2012).
Personally, I believe that the name is a genius choice as the temple was constructed for the sake of
the goddess
Athena.
Moreover, since the Parthenon mixed different Greek orders, namely the Doric and Ionic, it is the
best example to show how the Greeks could produce such a stunning temple. The materials they
used were not limited to marble and bronze. They used gold and ivory in lavish amounts for the
sculpture of their goddess, as well. There is too much important symbolism in these two buildings.
However, from the aforementioned information, I can say that the similarities between these two
buildings are many. They could be the purpose of their constructing as they both were temples and

Michael Gow Essay
A central irony of Michael Gow s allegorical drama Away and O.Henry s poignant meditation on
loss in The Last Leaf is the idea that we often gain self realisation when forced to abandon things
we have tied our sense of identity to. As Gow and O.Henry explore, we are often psychologically
unable to acceptinformation that contradicts self image and understandings of the world. Both texts
expose the fragility of humanlife as a zeitgeist of the 1960 s to mimeticise the cost that is required
for an individual to act as a catalyst for others to undergo a transformation. Personal discovery,
through the acknowledgement of death, allows the protagonist in both texts to encounter a
paradigmatic shift that causes people to readily accept change and results into an epiphany of their
limitations. Both texts use form and features in interaction with context to the 1960 s to mimeticise
the underlying ramifications the balance of loss and gain of discoveries.
Both Gow and O.Henry mimeticise this process of self realisation by abandoning our beliefs and
values through the prodigious power of youth inherent through Tom and Johnsy. In Away, Michael

Reform is needed.
In 2005, the estimated cost of the tort system in the United States was approximately 260.8
billion dollars. Broken down, every U.S. citizen spends approximately 880 dollars annually on
litigation taxes which fund United States tort cases (Balik, Carl). Understanding these numbers, it
is absurd to think that a family of 6 spends approximately $5,280 each year on frivolous cases in
the nation s judicial system. With each U.S. citizen paying roughly $1,000 on cases of tort, it is
obvious that the system is being abused. Caps in the tort system limit the amount of money a jury
can award a victim. These need to be put in place in order to prevent further damage to the nation s
economy and further abuse to the county s legal system.
Lawsuits of medical malpractice may be the greatest threat to justice in the legal system. Tort
cases are constantly filed against medical practices which cause health care prices to dramatically
increase in states lacking caps. Medical practitioners are forced to undergo an unnecessary amount
of costly tests and procedures in order to defend themselves from frivolous lawsuits. The expenses
of these precautions cause hospitals and other medical facilities to charge more for the care given to
the patients,

Although initially hesitant to share his insight on the grounds that humanity might not be ready for

Rosencrantz And Guildenstern Are Dead Comparison
Reality is relative to each individual. Everyone will perceive reality differently prominently
depending on the upbringing, the environment of an individual, and changes throughout time as
they become more and more exposed to the world. In Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas
Adams reality is explored more about discovering the big question of what is the meaning of life.
Although in Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead by Tom Stoppard, it focuses primarily on
what is death. Yet together both these novels conclude to a riveting theme of reality is an illusion
and vice versa. Both authors use satireto combine humor and intelligence to convey the message
accordingly. In both stories there are symbols that lead to a realization of the theme. In fact in both
cases, they entail beautiful aphorism for readers to enjoy the theme and the book as a whole.

Strong puritan beliefs are discussed in Nathaniel Hawthorne s piece of 1835 Young Goodman
Brown. An important question rises that ignites more questions on the role of God versus the
devil in how we live our lives, the choices we make, and our uncertain salvation. Do we look to
God or succumb to the temptation of the devil? Hawthorne writes, What if the devil himself
should be at my very elbow (Hawthorne, 2011, para. 9). His uncertain curiosity leads him down a
wicked path of which the devil continuously pursues him and he struggles with his own
conflicting thoughts, identity, and Faith. Hawthorne historically reflects the Puritans in their
relentless struggle to become perfect in the eyes of God. Under the Puritan doctrine it s common
for individuals to live a life of uncertainty, never knowing whether God is pleased. This dilemma
is characterized by their daring desire to please themselves and still feel spiritual fulfillment.
Goodman Brown expresses his fears as well as his hopes when Hawthorne states, Faith! Faith!
cried the husband, look up to Heaven, and resist the wicked one (Hawthorne, 2011, para. 69). In
this declaration Goodman Brown advocates good while identifying evil as he renounces Satan.

A Research Project On The The Wong One Died
Life is simultaneously the hardest thing we will ever do and also the easiest thing we will ever do.
From the basic biological processes to the complex mental processes, all that we as humans do
contributes to our lives. In the story The Wong One Died (Yalom, 2012), we learned about Penny, a
woman who is experiencing great difficulty simply living her life. Yalom moves quickly to the heart
of the matter, primarily by building a therapeutic relationship, developing an accurate empathic
understanding, and using that understanding to help Penny. The therapeutic relationship is
fundamental to the therapeutic process, and Yalom provides an excellent example of what is
required of the helper in this story.
Body

He does not deny that Penny could use help, or that he could certainly offer it, but he recognizes
his limitations and his commitments that would interfere with his ability to properly help Penny. I
think that this shows an important level of self awareness on the part of Yalom, and gives what
work he does with Penny its best chance at succeeding. While acknowledging she understands
Yalom s limitations, Penny mentions she had seen two therapists previously. One of them had
been at an alcohol clinic, where the counselor had been an alcoholic themselves. Penny remarks
that perhaps she need a therapist who has lost a child that could be an expert in what Penny is
experiencing. However, if it is true that a client can only be helped by someone who has
experienced the same things as themselves, then that places a severe limitation on the field of
psychology. Therapists could only help clients with similar experiences to themselves, which would
bring the focus of therapy to the therapist s subjective experience, and not the client s. Each
therapist would only have a narrow range of clients with which they could be effective, which I
do not believe to be the case. Yalom s work with Penny can serve of an example of two people
with different experiences forming a constructive therapeutic relationship. On the surface, there
would seem to be few similarities between a Stanford professor and an overworked cab driver, but
both Penny

Medical Laser Equipment
INTRODUCTION
This Paper analyzes the Case 16: Medical Laser Equipment. Some of the given facts are as follows:
Order is set to every Monday which means an annual total of 50 orders No. of Periods= 250 Days
Annual Demand = 166 Units Average Inventory= 5 Units Order Cost = $95 Stock out Cost= $250
Holding Cost = 50% * $1,000 = $500 Capital Cost = 10% Handling Cost= 15%Obsolescence= 5%
Storage Cost= 20%
We started the case analysis by the normality test for the current data to check if the data is
normally distributed or not. Our objective is to calculate the current Total Cost and then come up
with a better solution to lower the cost.
As a result, we have developed two scenarios, both of them reveled ... Show more content on

of Orders
( I ) М… = Average Inventory
DDLT = Demand During Lead Time
SS = Safety Stock
ROP = Re Order Point
CURRENT SITUATION
In the current situation, the order is set to every Monday which means a total number of 50
orders for the whole period, and the average Inventory calculated from the given data is 5 units.
Therefore, total cost of the current situation calculation will be as follows: q=50 Orders C_P=$95
C_H=$500 ( I ) М…=5 Units
гЂ– в‡’ TC=(CгЂ—_P*q)+(( I ) М…* C_H)=(95*50)+(5*500) =4,750+2,500 =$7,250
PROPOSED MODELS
In line with our objective, we proposed two different models both resulted in reducing the total
cost. Proposed scenarios are: Scenario I:Using Economic Order Quantity Concept Scenario II:Using
McLaren s Order Moment Concept
Below are the details of each scenario.
SCENARIO I: ECONOMIC ORDER QUANTITY EOQ
EOQ as described everywhere is the order quantity that minimizes total inventory holding costs
and ordering costs. It is one of the oldest classical production scheduling models . This model uses
the following assumptions: The ordering cost is constant which is in our case is $95. The rate of
demand is known and normally distributed which have been proved by the normality test presented
above. The lead time

Wuthering Heights by Emily BrontГ« Essay
Wuthering Heights by Emily BrontГ« BRONTГ‹ USES IMAGERY EFFECTIVELY TO
EMPHASISE THE CHARACTERS OF HEATHCLIFF, CATHERINE AND LINTON AND
THEIR COMPLEX RELATIONSHIPS IN THE NOVEL.
DISCUSS THIS STATEMENT
In the novel, Wuthering Heights by Emily BrontГ«, symbolism is used continuously throughout,
making it a brilliant, gripping story. In this essay I will be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Wuthering Heights for example is an isolated, dirty, off the beaten track and sequestered place to
live. The way BrontГ« describes the house supports the way that Heathcliff is, ...wall...jutting
stones...wilderness...crumbling. Heathcliff as a person resembles this, he is a wild, free untamed
spirit.
======================================================================
Wuthering Heights itself portrays an image of Heathcliff because it is a dark, gothic, secret and
mysterious building. BrontГ« says that it is a strong building; he is a rough, strong man. His life
before he was brought to Wuthering Heights is never spoken of, as if it is a secret, like the house
having a mysterious feel about it.
Then when we compare the dark, dismal building and setting of Wuthering Heights to the bright,
elegant home of Edgar Linton, Thrushcross Grange it is completely ill matched. It is decorated
throughout with beautiful dГ©cor and a silk, cream, satin sort of light and soft look about it,
...splendid place...crimson...bordered by gold...glass drops...silver chains...Heaven... This definitely
defines Linton s character as being a polite, rich, well groomed gentleman with a routined,
sophisticated lifestyle.

  • 2. How Did The Stock Market Crash That Led Up To The Great... People began buying things such as cars and appliances on credit. Many people earned less money than needed to live a comfortable lifestyle. Businesses were letting people with lower incomes buy things on credit. Unfortunately the stocks rose faster than the value of the companies they represented. When the stock marketcollapsed, these people did not have the money to pay back what they owed. This resulted in financial ruin. Before the stock market crash investors traded about sixteen million shares on the New York stock exchange each day. After Black Tuesday , billions of dollars were lost wiping out thousands of investors. Had most of those investors sold their stock the day before the crash, they would have received a large profit. The 1929 crash uncovered another problem in the United States. The nations banking system was in trouble. In the 1920 s thousands of new banks were opened, however, most lacked adequate money in reserves. Between 1923 and 1929, banks across the country failed daily, but the general rising prosperity hid these failures. The crash made a bad situation even worse, and banks failed at a more rapid rate. Most American lived in cities and small towns up until the 1920s. Agriculture was in decent shape and production had been rising. Despite ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example imagine in a fine morning you walk on to your computer room and switch on your computer, and then it tells you Hey friend, good morning you seem to be a bad mood today. And then it opens your mail box and shows you some of the mails and tries to cheer you. It seems to be a fiction, but it will be the life lead by BLUE EYES in the very near future. The basic idea behind this technology is to give the computer the human power. We all have some perceptual abilities. That is we can understand each others feelings. Come and See, directed by Elem Klimov Those that engage in the activity of war can be noted as mad and insane, but some individuals may also be considered brave souls, and that all depends on the select few that dare to go through with the entire process of being involved in such a feat. The forces in the war who only murder to get a rise out of and who continually toy with the on lookers can be portrayed as mad and insane, while those who decide to join the noble partisans, despite perhaps even being drafted, to play their part in war were considered to be brave young soldiers. This was exactly the case in Russian director Elem Klimov s 1985 film Come and See. The main character, Florian, a boy of fourteen years, is dragged into a war by the force of the Belorussian... The only thing that results from the act of war is endless violence and death, and that in itself does not seem very kind to the average being, despite having to deal with it, and accepting the fact that actions such as that would happen in society no matter what is a difficult task that not only the average being, but also the everyday pacifist and everyone alike, no matter what the circumstance or situation, all should know of the truth that goes on in the world, no matter how much it hurts, because it must learn to be accepted by each and every individual sooner or later. The ironic style of Crane s writing is an element that needs to be given closer and further inspection and examination until one finally reads between the lines and sees what Crane is trying to state. His last line of the second stanza of War is Kind , which is refrained a second time at the end of the fourth stanza, A field where a thousand corpses lie (Crane 11, 22) can reflect back to Come and See, with both the bodies in the back of Florian s house and the villagers that were burned to death in the barn. The way the brave army soldiers and noble partisans are portrayed in Come and See shows them as serious individuals that would do anything to win what could be considered the most important war of their entire lives, let alone, just a simple fight. Many times, these problems come in the form of mental illness. According to the DSM VI, which is the fourth edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, a mental disorder is a clinically significant behavioral or psychological syndrome or pattern that s associated with current distress (a painful symptom) or disability (impairment in one or more important areas of functioning) or with a significantly greater risk of suffering, death, pain, disability, or an important loss of freedom. There are some times when war is the only option, but this is not always the case. Therefore, we should be more resistant to war. Our new resistance to war will provide a more psychologically healthy environment. Those most affected psychologically are those who have fought in war. Traumatic experiences during war often create psychological problems such as survivor s guilt and guilt from killing others; another psychological problem that war creates is PTSD (Post traumatic Stress Disorder). Another group that is seriously affected by war is the loved ones of those killed or missing in action have to deal with their traumatic death. When a soldier comes home their families may have to deal with the added stress of having a husband, son or father with PTSD, a drug abuse problem or alcohol addiction. Dealing with their loved one s problems can cause friends and family members of the veteran to develop their own psychological problems. For example, stress can cause depression. Lastly, a whole society is psychologically injured by war. Some of the issues at this level include: dehumanization, desensitization, and distortion. The sheer number of combatants who become psychological casualties illustrates the fact that killing is not normal to the human race. Statistics show ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Analysis Of The Two Fridas Frida Kahlo s The Two Fridas is a manifestation of heartbreak, inner human pain, rejection of colonialism, and emotional journey. An oil on canvas made in 1939 in the midst of Frida Kahlo s divorce from Diego Rivera, this painting embodied Frida Kahlo s progression at this time in her life, dealing with what she is and what she wishes to be; as well as setting out how she wishes to do it. An ode to melancholy and overcoming adversity, The Two Fridas is a universal, eternal reminder of human capability. The painting is of two versions of Frida Kahlo, closely gripping hands and sharing one heart between them. They are dressed in contrary clothing, with the Fridaon the left dressed in modern European garb, while the other to the right is in traditional Mexican clothing. When viewing the painting, we are immediately attracted to the left Frida, who has nearly all of the light in the painting shining down on her. Her European clothing, popular in Mexicoat the time, feels very constricting for both the subject and the viewer, specifically the collar grasping her neck so very tightly. Her upright and fragile stance and her almost limp grasp of the second Frida s is understandable as we see the gaping hole where her heart should be. The pulsating anatomy of her wound bleeds into the room, while her face is completely indifferent. A single vein connects the hole in left Frida to the heart of right Frida. In left Frida s unclenched hand, a delicate pair of scissors, indicating that she had wretched the heart out of her own bosom. It is this connection that guides us to the Frida to the right, but not before we notice the background behind them. A gray and cloudy backdrop that seems to embody Kahlo s emotional state at the time, it is hard to distinguish the right Frida from its murky depths. A shadow presiding all around her, the right Frida is dressed in a traditional Mexican dress, with a posture and facial expression completely identical to the other Frida s. The most eye catching feature of hers, however, is the pulsating heart that the left Frida is lacking beating out of her chest. It was tall and big, and very wise, but many years had past since anyone came to the beautiful valley. The birds and the butterflies came and went, and the rain tree was lonely. One day, a little squirrel came to the valley to pick some nuts, and when it ran under the big rain tree, a lily seed dropped out of its furry tail. After a few days, a little lily popped up from under the big rain tree. It was small and weak, and it would die soon because the big rain tree took away all the food and water. Every time the rain came, or the sun shone, the little lily would stretch its toes, or its neck, to get as much food and water as possible, but every time, the big rain tree would suck up everything. Soon enough, the little lily was getting weaker, so it decided to set up a partnership with the big rain tree. One day, it spoke up. Hello sir, may I have a minute? While my options are limitless, I have spent most of my academic career preparing me for a future in scientific research and academia. Enumerable factors have molded me into the passionate person that I am today, so the answer to Who are you? is not simple but is rather a culmination of life experiences. I learned the values of respect, honor, and drive from both my biological family and my church family. Although there have been many debates and changes made the death penaltyis still used today. The death penalty should stay legal. It should be used for only the most terrible crimes. If there is no serious punishment for serious crimes people are more likely to commit them. America needs to practice the laws that they preach, otherwise what kind of country is that? The United States is built around the idea of justice. This means to do what is fair and right. If a serial killer murders five people then gets caught, those families are going to want justice. • 15. The Economy Of Honours Demosthenes claimed that the economy of honours was democratic because it allowed the population to reward individuals for helping to preserve democracy through philanthropy. Benefactors or euergetes were encouraged to donate to their city by being rewarded with various honours. The orator opposed Leptines law, which made no one exempt from liturgies as he believed that exemptions were one way of honouring men who had helped to preserve democracy (Demosthenes Against Leptines, 17). One such figure was Leucon, the King of the Bosphorus, who had provided Athens with grain out of his own generosity (Demosthenes 31). Demosthenes also disapproved of Leptines law because it diminished the sovereignty of the demos, removing their freedom to show their appreciation to whoever they chose(Demosthenes 15). In the fourth century BC, especially after the social war, the economy of Athens had significantly decreased in wealth and power since the Periclean golden age and could no longer afford such gestures as paying people to participate in the assembly, aiming to increase political egalitarianism(Finley, Chatto and Windus1981, p.86). One attempt to increase revenue involved granting honours to people who donated to the state in order to encourage more benefactions. In order to increase wealth the state needed to compromise some of it s political equality, allowing individuals to distinguish themselves more so than previously (Veyne 1976, p.90 91). • 24. The Mystery Of The False Confession In Arthur Miller s The... The Mystery of the False Confession Noah White Ms. Maney American Literature 12/10/2017 In post 9/11 America, one of the most debated topics is the use of torture and unreliable interrogation techniques to extract information from suspects. Said use of torture is considered not only heinous but somewhat notorious for producing unreliable and false confessions. In Arthur Miller s The Crucible, a spotlight is shined on this topic by the situation of the Salem Witch Trials in which so called witches are forced to confess to their non existent offenses by threat of hanging. Considering these points, the question must be asked; why are false confessions so prevalent and why do they occur? One of the earliest recorded instances of a false confessions was the confession of Robert Hubert in 1666 after the Great London Fire. The London fire destroyed thousands of houses, businesses, 87 churches, and killed tens of thousands of people. And the man who confessed to starting it? A disabled man in a wheelchair who wasn t even in London on the day that it started. It is speculated that Robert Hubert, after slight suspicion on behalf of the king, was interrogated or even tortured for a confession. Gun Ownership In Early America Summary In the article Gun Ownership in Early America: A Survey of Manuscript Militia Returns by Robert Churchill, he discusses how gun ownership in the early 18th and 19th centuries was scarce and at times the armed militias were the only people who had guns at all. It was because of this that the government made gun ownership exceptional. This is different from today when gun ownership is everywhere. Due to the high concentration of guns sometimes it is hard to count how many are sold in the United Statesevery year. To learn that guns, at one time, were almost non existent is almost hard to believe. In the article, the author talks about Michael Bellesiles a historian who first wrote on gun ownership in America in 1996. Bellesiles was the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Unlike the 18th and 19th centuries, the government today is much against gun ownership. So much so that they have enacted gun control laws that would take all guns away from American citizens. Though guns can be dangerous in the wrong hands, Americans have the right to bear arms. To take gun ownership away would mean destroying the Constitutional right of every American. Instead of gun control everyone that buys a gun they should undergo an intense back ground check and be required to attend gun ownership classes to learn how to safely use the weapon. In the article it is stated that most guns in the 18th and 19th centuries were owned by younger men and boys. This would suggest that younger men in those centuries were more mature than those of today. Back then people had to fend for themselves because money was not as prevalent as it is today, so owning a gun was more of a necessity. Now when younger people possess a fire arm the outcome is more violent. The damage inflicted by young people with guns in the last decade has been some of the worst America has ever witnessed. Whether it is literary, geographical, or social, each one strongly affected the writing of the Old Testament. Artifacts found from the time of the Old Testament, such as old tools or early forms of writing, like the Mesha Inscription and the Merneptah Stele, also provide context, helping our understanding of the way in which the Israeli people lived. Analysis Of Living Under Circe s Spell Letter The personal essays Living Under Circe s Spell written by Matthew Soyster and On Being a Cripple written by Nancy Mairs both share experiences and what it is like to live life as a person that suffers from Multiple Sclerosis, otherwise known as MS, through the use of pathos, and patterns. Both of these authors appeal to the readers emotions while talking about their life and how difficult it is to live with such a disease. Soyster and Mairs create patterns as they continually talk about their past lives. They always refer back to the past, which shows the reader how some people can live in the past or can simply learn from it. The authors bring up different opinions of living with MS by creating their tones when using pathos and patterns. Soyster and Mairs use pathos and patterns to strengthen their essays and convey their lives as a person suffering from the Multiple Sclerosisdisease. Soyster s Living Under Circe s Spell and Mairs s On Being a Cripple both use emotional appeals to describe how living with Multiple Sclerosis truly is. The authors use of pathos helps the reader to connect to Soyster and Mairs s stories more and really understand and sympathize with them. Each building, especially, the historical ones has a function, for which it was built, and a style carried with messages to convey for the people. The Greek and the Roman buildings are the best examples of the buildings, which tells a lot about their cultures. So, this essay will discuss two buildings from the ancient eras, their differences, and similarities. The first one is the Parthenonin Athens while the other is the Pantheon in ancient Rome. Also, it will explain how the style and use of these buildings served as a typical example of their culture. The Pantheon is a Roman temple, and it was built in 125 CE in the reign of Hadrian. So, the Romans, using it in such an important temple, wanted to talk about their strength, architectural skills, and ability to innovate. Moving to the other building swiftly, the Parthenon in Athens is a Greek temple. It was built in 432 B.C. in the Age of Pericles. Hence, it was built when the Athenian Empire was at the top of its power. The word Parthenon was derived from Athena epithets: Athena Parthenos, which means Virgin. (Cartwright, 2012). Personally, I believe that the name is a genius choice as the temple was constructed for the sake of the goddess Athena. Moreover, since the Parthenon mixed different Greek orders, namely the Doric and Ionic, it is the best example to show how the Greeks could produce such a stunning temple. The materials they used were not limited to marble and bronze. They used gold and ivory in lavish amounts for the sculpture of their goddess, as well. There is too much important symbolism in these two buildings. However, from the aforementioned information, I can say that the similarities between these two buildings are many. • 31. Michael Gow Essay A central irony of Michael Gow s allegorical drama Away and O.Henry s poignant meditation on loss in The Last Leaf is the idea that we often gain self realisation when forced to abandon things we have tied our sense of identity to. As Gow and O.Henry explore, we are often psychologically unable to acceptinformation that contradicts self image and understandings of the world. Both texts expose the fragility of humanlife as a zeitgeist of the 1960 s to mimeticise the cost that is required for an individual to act as a catalyst for others to undergo a transformation. Personal discovery, through the acknowledgement of death, allows the protagonist in both texts to encounter a paradigmatic shift that causes people to readily accept change and results into an epiphany of their limitations. Both texts use form and features in interaction with context to the 1960 s to mimeticise the underlying ramifications the balance of loss and gain of discoveries. Understanding these numbers, it is absurd to think that a family of 6 spends approximately $5,280 each year on frivolous cases in the nation s judicial system. With each U.S. citizen paying roughly $1,000 on cases of tort, it is obvious that the system is being abused. Caps in the tort system limit the amount of money a jury can award a victim. An important question rises that ignites more questions on the role of God versus the devil in how we live our lives, the choices we make, and our uncertain salvation. Do we look to God or succumb to the temptation of the devil? Hawthorne writes, What if the devil himself should be at my very elbow (Hawthorne, 2011, para. 9). His uncertain curiosity leads him down a wicked path of which the devil continuously pursues him and he struggles with his own conflicting thoughts, identity, and Faith. Hawthorne historically reflects the Puritans in their relentless struggle to become perfect in the eyes of God. Under the Puritan doctrine it s common for individuals to live a life of uncertainty, never knowing whether God is pleased. This dilemma is characterized by their daring desire to please themselves and still feel spiritual fulfillment. Goodman Brown expresses his fears as well as his hopes when Hawthorne states, Faith!
