As an entomology class, consisting of 6 students and a professor, we walked around
a rural campus for approximately 45 minutes in Laurinburg, North Carolina;
collecting termites (unsure of exact scientific name) from underneath decomposing
logs from multiple sites within an acre area. With these samples, and the efforts of
Jared Kay (student), who continued the search after class, we had a combined total
of 30 termites including worker and soldier castes to study.
After samples were collected and consolidated to a tuple ware container, we set up
the experiment in the science lab, located at St. Andrews University, Laurinburg. The
experiment consisted of a white sheet of paper, and three writing utensils : rollerball,

I wake up to the sound of my alarm clock beeping repeatedly. I slam the button off

Similarities And Differences Between The Rape Runner
And...
Both novels are excellent books to read for different reasons. Out of the two novels,
The Kite Runner had the better ending. The Kite Runner contained a stronger
resolution and through character growth. The four elements more thoroughly and
precisely than A Complicated Kindness did.
Resolution is much easier to see in The Kite Runner then in A Complicated Kindness.
In A Complicated Kindness, Nomi s resolution is to accept her families separation
and come to terms with endings. Consequently through her excommunication.
However, these resolutions are not as easily seen as they are in The Kite Runner. In
The Kite Runner, the resolution is through Amir finally finding the courage to stand
up for something. At the end of the novel, Amir is given a chance to redeem himself
by standing up for Sohrab; even though it endangers his life. Sohrab is segregated
because he is a Hazara and he is raped by the same man Hassan is raped by. Hassan
s rape situation is the start of Hassan s conflict, and Sohrabs rape situation is Hassan s
resolution. Even though both novels had a resolution, the kite runner had the better
resolution because the plot focused more intensely on the conflict throughout the
book. This emphasis is achieved by having the story constantly come back to Amir s
biggest conflict which is lacking the courage to stand up for something. In A
Complicated Kindness, the story plot jumps all over the place and doesn t focus on
one conflict, which can make the story confusing.

RESEARCH QUESTION, MODEL AND HYPOTHESES
Performance Measurement Systems (PMS) enable organizations to plan, measure
and control their performance, so that decisions, resources and activities can be better
aligned with business strategies to achieve desired results and create shareholder
value. This study addresses the following research question: What factors, internal or
external to the organization, explain the outcomes of Performance Management
Systems? In order to answer this question, we used the model shown in Figure 1 to
examine the factors contributing to three types of PMS outcomes: usefulness,
effectiveness and quality of information.

Usefulness is defined in the literature as the degree to which a person believes that
using a particular system would enhance performance [11]. Usefulness is related to
the concept of voluntary IS use [2,3]. The actual usage of information systems is
widely considered an important measure of IT success in organizations, and has been
found to have a strong correlation with the perceived usefulness of a system by the
user [8].
Effectiveness of a PMS is the degree to which the system delivers its intended results
[9], i.e, helping organizations to plan, measure and control their performance, as

Abstract
Neohydatothrips samayunkur, a thrips species infest African marigold, is recorded
from Egypt for the first time. A detailed description is given of how to identify this
thrips species. Tagetes erecta L. were grown in the experimental farm at Giza
governorate, Egypt. The Sampling was carried out during mid
April to late July and from early September to late December, (2013 2014). A
weekly sample randomly selected and examined for the presence of thrips.
Identification was based on the morphological characters. N. samayunkur adult
body is bicolor, dark brown with abdominal segments 3 6 yellowish with brown
antecostal ridge. Antenna 8 segments, Legs; Mid and hind tarsi: 2 segmented, The
hind leg tibiae is brown medially and otherwise yellow. Fore wings alternating
bands of dark and light. Second larval instars are pale yellow to orange in color,

Oil is the lifeblood of the world. Everything that is created by human hands can be
related back to it in some way. In an age where there is a dwindling supply of oil it
is becoming increasingly important to use every last bit of it to its full potential.
After crude oil is removed from the ground it goes through a process called
fractionation which separates the hydrocarbons found in oil based on their size.
When fractionation is completed the separated hydrocarbons can be manipulated
to form more useful hydrocarbons. The three major types of manipulation are

Developing emotions such as compassion are arguably the most fundamental part of
being human. However, when a danger such as an over controlling government
threatens to take those feelings away, one truly appreciates the kindness and loyalty

political nature in order to warn readers about the negative effects that a

choppy and, sometimes, wandering critique. Albeit, the historical reference Platizky
uses on how Poe ambiguously capitalizes on psychological fear and historical
reality (p. 206), is the ultimate essence of the article which sets a novice reader on
the right path to understanding the story. Platizky s use of historical facts and
sources leads me to believe this article could help provoke a logical thought process
for anyone to understand the fascination, and or fear, of being buried alive and the
symbols used within the story.
Platizky s article jumps from point to point with no clear direction. The order of
Platizky transition s could be more concise; instead of jumping from Poe s earlier
work, to tidbits of history, to the symbolism of points in the story, back to more
historical references, and finally a weak conclusion that leaves readers wanting
closure. This fact is not forthcoming of an adequate flow to follow. The flow is
comparative to a Quentin Tarantino film jumping back and forth in the time line of
the plot.
Another aspect where Platizky s article lacks clear direction is through the
explanation of the story s symbols and how they are historically tied. The statement of
how the catacombs could be symbolic due to Christian history and their nitrous decay
