What makes fiction novels especially interesting are the larger messages hidden
within them. The novel, The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time, by
Mark Haddon does just that. The novel centers around a 15 year old genius
Christopher Boone who has a mental disability of some sort, struggling with
communication because of it. The book is comprised of a murder mystery novel
Christopher sought to write after discovering the bloody murder of his neighbor s
dog, Wellington. Gradually, the story focuses away from the main conflict and
morphs into a complicated story about Christopher s life. With that, Haddon brings
out the complexity and hardships of human life, specifically through the topic of truth

My Field Placement At The Puerto Rican Family Institute...
I am currently doing my field placement at the Puerto Rican Family Institute clinic in
Brooklyn, NY. The mission statement for the organization is, to enhance the
functioning and self sufficiency of diverse marginalized communities and prevent
family disintegration. I am currently doing individual, family, couples, and group
psychotherapyat the outpatient clinic. The clinic is in a lower socioeconomic area in
Bushwick, that is currently in the process of gentrification. The program that I work
in specifically, offers both therapeutic and psychiatric services for the patients that are
enrolled in the program.
The client population that we serve primarily has Medicaid, and the clinic does
have a sliding scale for those who do not have insurance. Anyone from the ages of
5 99 years old can receive services through the organization. The majority of the
population primarily speak Spanish and are of the Hispanic descent. Many of the
patients that are seen at the clinic have a wide range of diagnosis such as:
depression, bi polar disorder, anxiety, ADHD, and schizophrenia. The patients are in
the lower income bracket, and are working between 1 2 jobs to support their family.
Many times they live with many other family members in a small and/or temporary
housing unit.
My position within the agency is very clinical. We are suggested to see our patients

A quote by Edward R. Murrow states, No one man can terrorize a whole nation
unless we are all his accomplices. During the Red Scare, Senator McCarthy did
terrorize a whole nation, and Arthur Miller became a victim of McCarthyism. Miller
suffered through accusations of possibly believing in communism; as a result, he
wrote a play called The Crucible, in which he used the Salem Witch Trials of 1692 to
explain the communist hysteria during the 1950s. Arthur Miller develops an allegory
in The Crucible by comparing the Salem Witch Trials to McCarthyismby using
ringleaders, persecuted couples, and hypocrisy in the government or legal system.
Certainly, Miller creates a parallel using ringleaders such as Senator Joseph McCarthy
in the 1950s, and Abigail Williams in The Crucible. Without a doubt, Joseph
McCarthy remained the ringleader of the Red Scare; similarly, Abigail Williams
became the ringleader of the afflicted girls. The House of Un American Activity
Committee (HUAC) hunted for communists or communist sympathizers during the
era of McCarthyism, just as the court hunted for witches throughout The Crucible.
Joseph McCarthy led the HUAC, and accused many citizens of attending communist
meetings and taking part in plans to make the United States a communist country.
McCarthy even said, I have here in my hand a list of two hundred and five people
that were known to the Secretary of State as being members of the Communist Party

community is open to everyone. People who attack Christianity by claiming it is
intolerant are attacking the body of believers for a natural factor of society. While
Christians should strive to love all people and reach out to them, it is important to
remember that society s rampages about tolerance right now have twisted the
purest meaning of the word in order to exclude Christianity from their idea of a
perfectly inclusive utopia. While these and other points made a lot of sense to me,
I did find several logical fallacies in Keller s arguments, and even noticed that he
includes several misquotes in the book. I don t have space to explore these downfalls
in such a short essay, but they are disappointing to me because I feel Keller has a
very relatable written voice and logical way of writing that is appealing to many
