Young Adults First-Time Voters Voting Process
EXECUTIVE SUMARY
This brief is written for Roy Morgan Agency on behalf of the Greens party. It presents a
background about young adults disengaged attitude towards politics, particularly among the 18 25
years old group. Recent research by Australian Electoral Commission indicates that 30% of total
missing electoral votes belongs to this age group. Expanding understanding about young adults
disengagement and decision making process is vital since a major shift in the youth vote will be
sufficient to change an election outcome, especially when their support for the Greens are growing.
In order to gain their support, it is important to develop deeper knowledge about how young adults

Railroad Safety
After reading the information, and watching the videos on keeping us safe, and protecting us
from accidents, I realized that railroad crossing is a serious thing, and we need to be careful
when we are crossing the tracks. I have realized that it comes down to being smart, careful, and
using common sense. When red lights are blinking, you should stop, and be extremely cautious.
LIke it said in one of the videos, it is not worth it to risk anything. If we are all just a little smarter
when we are around railroad crossings, and we use our heads we should all be fine. I think
another key to being safe is keeping the distractions in our pockets. If we are on our phone we are
much less likely to pay attention to our surroundings, and what is going... Show more content on

Something that I didn t realize was that when you walk on tracks for train you are actually
trespassing. Not only are you incredibly unsafe, you are actually breaking a law, and there could
be serious consequences for doing that. Not only are the tracks dangerous, but not being smart
on platform, and around the cars. Around the train cars is not a place to mess around. It is
dangerous, and you should follow all of the rules that are posted. They aren t posted to make our
lives harder, they are posted to help us out, keep us safe, and make sure that no one gets hurt. I
think that if we all just follow the rules that are posted, we use common sense, put our phones
away, and are cautious, we can help each other out, and be safe in these situations. That is what I
got out of the sources that I read, and listen to. In the video, it s your choice, there are many
different stories about tragedies and other sad stories. I didn t realize how serious these
injuries, and accidents can be. I thought it was very interesting that when a train hits a car, it s like
a car running over a soda can. I also thought it was very sad all the stories that the people told

The Great Leaders Of The Civil Rights Movement
Throughout history, people have made sacrifices, changes, and big decisions that later sometimes
result in something grand. These grand occurrences can either be good or bad. Usually as time
goes on these events and most well known people of this time are highlighted in history classes for
students to learn and to honor those of that time. However, some of the smaller people that
contributed to historical events aren t as highlighted as those that were seen as the big leaders. For
example, in the American Revolution, the people that usually come to mind are George
Washington, Paul Revere, and Thomas Jefferson. What about the people who were injured, scared
and killed because of this bloody war? They seem to be forgotten until they are highlighted once
again. Another example of a person that was not really highlighted for their actions is Nina Simone.
She made an impact on the Civil Right Movement that not many other artist or celebrity would have
done. When you think of the Civil Rights Movementthe first three that come to mind of course
are, Martin Luther King Jr., Malcom X, and Rosa Parks. So, when someone hears the name
Nina Simone the two most common responses might be Who s that? or Oh the singer? . But
what is forgotten is how she, at such a high level, put her reputation at a risk. Nina Simone was a
very well known singer of the 1950s and 1960s especially for her song Feeling Good . She didn t
just use her popularity for fame and money but to express

of the most lethal in the history of China (Liu, 1). This natural disaster, like other big disasters,
was covered widely by the media all over the world. The news of Sichuan earthquake hit the
headlines of many newspapers globally. The domestic media was not left behind in analyzing the
disaster having 24 hours reports on the events surrounding the earthquake. The America reporters
made a comprehensive coverage of the events. This is because the foreign news reporters were
permitted to visit the site of the quake (Seo et al., 17).

The media usually frame the story for the public to understand all these events. Through framing,
they highlight some of the issues to capture the attention of the audience in an individual
occurrence (Liu, 8). The theory describes framing in two ways, the media frame, and the audience
frame. According to Gitlin media frame helps the journalist in recognition, interpretation, and
dissemination of the information. On the other hand, the audience frames are the patterns of
cognition and description of events and idea that news anchors develop in the mind of the
spectators. Frame theory argues that media frames impact the way of thinking in the audience by
emphasizing on some areas of events. They either amplify or shrink the episodes in an

Lord Of The Flies Civilization Analysis
Within any civilization, there are multiple key components required in order to create a
functioning society. As explained through Lord of the Flies by William Golding, these pivotal
building blocks of a civilization can play a great part into bringing a group of people to society, or
drag them all down into savagery. The conch shell is an excellent example of political legitimacy
and democratic power. Although, while this device can be used for good; providing others with
order and sanity, it can also be used for the utter destruction of a civilization. The conch shell in
Lord of the Flies by William Goldingbegins as civilization and order, becomes the fragility of
power and influence, and concludes with the collapse of any civilized thoughts. Civilization and
order can be found within every society, and this is no exception within the group of boys in the
beginning of the novel. Throughout the exposition of the story, governance over the group of
boys was unknown. No order was established to influence the boys to cooperate and fulfill the
needed tasks to get off the island. Although, there was a stillness about Ralph as he sat that marked
him out: there was his size, and attractive appearance...yet most powerfully, there was the conch.
The being that had blown that, had sat waiting for them on the platform with the delicate thing
balanced on his knees, was set apart (Golding 22). The conch shell was able to control and demand
a large audience. It provided Ralph with a

How Great Was Nicholas To Blame For The 1905 Revolution...
Was Nicholas Completely to Blame for the 1905 Revolution of Russia?
In the year 1905, Russia experienced an attempted revolution through the means of its people. It
could be argued that the tsar, Nicholas, was to blame for this revolution due to the amount of upset
and discontent he brought not only within his country, but many others such as Poland and Finland
too. It could be argued that Nicholas overall attitude towards being a ruler and to his people
encouraged the revolution of 1905 as he made no attempt to stop it but only encourage it.
The initial issue that Nicholas faced was the many opposition groups that attempted to thwart his
rule. Incidentally however, the Mir, which caters for peasant/farmers lives by dividing land and
food, had poor menials of maintaining land and improving it so that its people s food grew better
and the land was more easily farmed, allowing peasants to make extra food so that they could go
on to sell it instead of making just enough food to maintain their life. However, Nicholas cannot be
fully blamed for this through the fact in the north of Russia, there was poor soil originally making it
harder to grow crops on and maintain. Additionally, there was a small amount of time of growing
season for the peasants meaning ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Over 400,000 people died to famine in the years 1902 and 1903 and this was due to the poor
harvest and seasonal weather in those years, something which could not be predicted. This meant
that Nicholas could not be blamed for these incidences happening, however, he did not offer any
advice or improvements to the land or farming structure to help peasants overcome the bad
harvests, allowing him to take partial blame with the anger that followed the bad harvests in 1902
and 1903, evoking anger once again directed to the tsar and leading to Nicholas being blamed for

Compare And Contrast The Whiskey Rebellion And Daniel Shays
Destiny Manston per.4 Dept, Taxes, and Daniel Shays Daniel Shays Rebellion took place during
the time of America s post war depression that from 1784 1787. The rebellion fits into the theme
of culture and society . The confederation had an enormous debt that had built up during the
Revolutionary War. Congress showed its weakness that weighed heavily on debtors and having
no power to tax. The confederation could only make requisition on the states but even then could
only receive one sixth of the money. Robert Morris and his Philadelphia allies had an idea for a
centralized government after the flaws found in the Articles of Confederation. Because the states
also had post war dept, they had to rely on taxation to get payed back. The increase of taxation
caused Nationalists to became outraged toward the government who felt that they were being
treated unfairly (and in some cases felt that the government was being tyrannical). The burdened
farmers demanded paper money to fulfill the obligations. The effect of the increased burdens of
debt and taxation caused farmers to riot periodically in various parts of New England in the late
1700s. The Dissidents from Connecticut Valley and Berkshire Massachusetts rallied behind Daniel
Shay who was a former captain of the Continental army. An example of something similar
happening was the Whiskey Rebellion. Both revolts include an anarchy that called for the
modifying of the government. Shay called for a changing of

enforce commercial impracticability rule when the seller cannot deliver goods within agreement as
per contract. Commercial impracticability may also be enforceable when the seller faces
unexpected events. These events must affect the contract directly (Melvin, 2011, p. 193). Specific
performance. UCC allows buyers to acquire a court order to require the breaching party to

Gloria Marie Steinem Speech Summary
Gloria Marie Steinem is a very well known political activist who was very well known as a leader
for the American feminist movement in the late 1960s and early 1970s. She is a journalist, writer
and lecturer. She is a spokeswoman for matters on equality, sex and race caste systems, gender
roles and child abuse as roots of violence, non violent conflict resolution, the cultures of indigenous
peoples, and organizing across boundaries for peace and justice.
On May 31st, 1970, Ms. Steinem had given a speech to the graduating class of Vassar College,
New York, USA. She speaks to batch of Liberal Arts Graduates on Living the Revolution . As being
Liberal Arts students, they learn various subjects ranging from economics to psychology. She states
the inequalities people face in society whether it be a woman or a black man, they stand at a lower
hierarchical order than the white man. She mentions the myths that the world follows which lead
to reduction for opportunities for women and only by overcoming these myths women will be
able to share the burden that man solely takes for society. Being graduates her speech is a rather

Steinem talks of the upcoming of the women s liberation and yet there are certain short comings
to the complete definition of liberating women. She talks of living a revolution and making
changes to the ideals that were set and blindly followed. She states the myths that hold women
back from what they actually deserve. She mentions how even after women who work as hard as
any man are still not given enough credibility. Ms. Steinem brings out the fact of how women are
void of authority both inside and outside their house. A woman is only seen as dominant when she
is a widow. These beliefs that haunt over women clearly do not allow them to bring their ideas and

St. Louis She, Our Blessed Mother
Dulce Suam Matrem She is the air of our true Christian breeze. This is a rather interesting quote
from St. Louis. What St. Louis is metaphorically saying that Mary, Our Blessed Mother, is the air
that we take in to replenish and refresh our lives. Not only in an internal sense, inhaling and
exhaling our lungs to keep our circulatory system continuous, but in the figurative sense that She,
Our Lady, is the everlasting breath of Salvation that we partake every moment of our lives. You
cannot get to Jesuswithout Her, (Mr. Berube). To become truly Catholic and to love Jesus tenderly,
one must love and accept Maryfirst. Only through the Blessed Mother can we obtain heaven for,
without Jesus and Mary, there is no salvation. If there is a faithful understanding of their infinite
love for us, then there is Salvation and hope for us. This understanding can begin by looking at the

our duty to come to know our mother, who points the way to her Son. Mary is the safest, easiest
and most perfect way of approaching Jesus (St. Louis De Montfort). Only through Mary can one

Behavior Change Assignment Analysis
Behavior Change Assignment My goal for this behavior change assignment is to get at least
seven hours of sleep for at least five nights a week for at least two weeks. I set my goal to be at
least seven hours because that is the recommended number of hours of sleep a adult should have
each night. I wanted to make this behavior change because I find myself feeling tired and
exhausted throughout the day because of the lack of sleep I get. I also wanted to make this
behavior change because I began to take naps in the afternoon. After waking up from these naps,
I felt even more exhausted and tired than before I took the nap. I m hoping that by getting more
sleep at night that I can eliminate naps so I can use my time for something more productive.

Bilingual Education
Education is very important. There use to be a time when you didn t have to go to school. When
it was only important for men to have an education. Times have really changed. Now it is crucial
for everyone in our society to have an education. Survival is the main reason: a cohesive society is
another. Our schools today need to keep Bilingual education as a tool for teaching: not only for the
sake of our society but also for the sense of our culture.
Bilingual education in our schools is crucial: but still there is talk about banning the use of foreign

As a relook at Tucson 66 states, the number of English speakers in the Western Hemisphere is only
slightly larger than that of Spanish speakers. By the year 2000 the number of Spanish speakers will
be far greater than the number of english speakers. Statistics indicate that the United States is now
one of the major Spanish American countries. One statistical example: If the figures on illegal
Mexican aliens are correct, that means that every year the United States adds another city the size
of Albuquerque and Tucson combined. Or, put it another way, it adds another state larger in
population than Wyoming and Alaska combined (a relook at Tucson 14).

The policy of most governments toward bilingualism in the home is and long has been one of
neglect. A few countries actively encourage it, especially if the quot;second quot; (non community)
language is the more important language in the country or in the world, or if the quot;minority
quot; (community) language is the language of a group given special consideration under the law.
Many countries, which have recently been colonies, for example, encourage their young people to
learn the language of their former quot;Mother Country quot;, because bilingualism of this type is
important in international trade and politics. However, we could find castles full of research and
still very little is being done in public

The Crash Of The Plane Crash
Day 1: I awoke covered in sand with the sun beating down on my face. Looking into the vast
ocean upon me I knew I had survived the plane crash, but how could I have ended up on this
mysterious island? I sat there for a moment trying to piece together what had occurred. It was June
17, 1979 and I was on a planeheading to Bosnia for a mission trip when the plane encountered
engine problems. There were several loud booms coming from the cockpit when suddenly a huge
explosion rips through the fuselage tearing the aircraft into several pieces. At this point I was sure
death was upon me. Somehow, I managed to survive the plummet into the ocean and swim to a
piece of debris floating in the water. This was the last thing I remember until waking up on the
shore. God sure must have been looking out for me to have survived that crash!
After the shock had set in that I was still alive, it was time to decide what to do to survive on this
island. Not knowing how long I will be here, there are three very important things to locate: food,
water, and shelter. I walked along the shore looking for anything to wash up from the crash. I
stumbled upon a few suitcases filled with clothes and several other items I could use to my
disposal. While searching the shore I found absolutely no sign of life and realized that I was the
only survivor that had made it to land. I then began walking inland to find water and a place to rest
for the night. I could hear the sound of water flowing in the

Aldous Huxley view on technology
On this essay we ll discuss the views of Aldous Huxley towards technology, and society in whole.
The impact he had on the people that read his books and our commentary based on his
observations for the future. Huxley was a British writer best known for his novel Brave New World,
written in 1931 and published in 1932. He was concerned of the changes of western civilization at
that time, which would prompt him to write great novels about the serious threats posed by the
combination of power and technical progress. He was also very interested in parapsychology in

Mr. Huxley predicted exactly what we have become. Are we better off? I guess what Mr. Huxley
was referring is; the morality of society is literally non existent.
We changed everything to be more politically correct, we have become a society of non
judgmental individuals for example the people pushing carts in Home Depot used to be called
lot attendants, now they are: lot engineers . I remember being in a lawsuit as a witness for
somebody robing a store. When I accused the robber his lawyer told me not to call him a thief
since the case was not over and was not accuse of any crime yet. He said to call him a non
traditional shopper . I said give me a break!!! The next paragraph will deal with other dangers
that threaten society as a whole: Technology. Mr. Huxley referred the danger of technology as a
dependency of the individual from totalitarian forces. Would he mean that we can one day blow
ourselves up? No not at all. What he was referring to was the use of technology to spy on citizens
for no other reason than to keep track of everybody on this planet. This incredible author had the
audacity to predict exactly what we are facing right now. Let s go back to one of the greatest
tragedy ever perpetuated in this wonderful country of ours. September 11, 2001, otherwise known

Emerging Markets And Developing Economies
Over the years the global economy has seen a rise in so called emerging markets . These are
developing economies which have exceeded economic performance in respect to their developing
counterparts. These economies are newly industrialized and are on their way to becoming
developed economies but have not yet reached that status. The more common and likely heard
developing economies consists of BRIC (Brazil, Russia, India, and China) followed by Mexico,
South Korea, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, and Indonesia. Developed nations (MEDC) include the
westernised countries such as the U.S, the U.K and Japan. In 1999, Dr. Kvint published this
definition: Emerging market country is a society transitioning from a dictatorship to a free market
oriented economy, with increasing economic freedom, gradual integration with the Global
Marketplace and with other members of the GEM (Global Emerging Market), an expanding middle
class, improving standards of living, social stability and tolerance, as well as an increase in
cooperation with multilateral institutions This essay will locate the common characteristics that
emerging marketsshare.
The first characteristic is that they share a below average income per capita. This means that the
average person earns less in comparison to rest of the world. It can also be compared to cities,
towns or a given population but for this case the total population will be looked at to give a

The Importance Of Communication And Effective...
Success in any environment is built around efficient and effective communication. Successful
communication requires clear, concise and correct information being delivered in a form which
cannot be misinterpreted or misunderstood. Through communication, we attempt to convey
thoughts and objectives to others, with the intention of achieving successful performance.
Communications can only be successfully understood when both sender and receiver comprehend
the same information and in current times with industries technology progressively developing and
at a fast pace it has become increasingly important for individuals to have good communicational
skills.
For section 1 of the module I will be identifying and explaining the relevance of the effective
communication in management, this will be achieved by analyzing the relevance of the
communication cycle by understanding the key importance of using both the 5 C s of
communication and selecting the correct tone, language and level of formality for management
communications. This process will be assessed in both verbal and written communication methods.
For the second section of the module I will reflect and develop effective communications skills. I
will develop criteria and create a questionnaire to evaluate my own abilities in verbal and written
communications. Using the feedback received from my colleagues I will identify strengths and
areas which require improvement.

New France Economy Essay
There were many things that brought about the development of the economy in New France.
They ranged from simple things like fishers and traders and then developed into a global scale
market, with trade passing to and from Europe and New France regularly. This process evolved
from a simple fishing operation to a market driven colony with a massive network of trading posts,
which in turn began the fur trade and monopolies which later led to the industrial development of
New France. Fishing in North America began very early in the 16th century. In 1550, about 500
ships sailed from France heading to North America for the fish laden waters there. Upon arrival,
they formed fishing communities along the northern coast of Newfoundland, and in Saint... Show

The theory was that the more a country exported, the larger the economy it had. This system
relied on exporting as much as possible while collecting as many raw materials without importing
from other states. European powers developed their economies and colonies based on this
concept. The colonies would supply the mother countries factories while also providing a point of
sale for the finished products. Meanwhile, the mother countries would rely on these raw materials
in order to manufacture them and then sell them to other states. This attitude is what led to the
development of the trading post colonies in New France, which were created in order to supply
the mother country with materials to manufacture. During the late 16th century, New France was
a colony based on exploitation and trade. Trading posts were being built for the fur trade because
of a lot of merchants, ship owners, explorers, and traders taking an interest in it. The first trading
post was built in Tadoussac in 1600. It was followed shortly after by a second in Acadia that was
built in 1604. In 1608, Samuel de Champlain founded the first permanent trading post, the Quebec

The Role Of Women In A Streetcar Named Desire
The role of women in the 1950 was seen to be repressive and constrictive in many ways. Society
placed high importance and many expectations for these women on behavior at home as well as in
public. Women were supposed to fulfil certain roles, such as a caring mother, a diligent
homemaker, and an obedient wife. The perfect mother was supposed to stay home and nurture so
society would accept them. In fact, even if a womanwanted to voice an opinion, her lack of
education would not allow it . The play A Streetcar Named Desire is set during the late 1940 s and
early 1950 s period where it describes the decline of a fading Southern belle named Blanche DuBois
. The women in this play are represented to be dependent and submissive in nature and in addition
they are also seen to be manipulative. However, Williams has also portrayed these women to be

Comparison Of Landscape With The Fall Of Icarus
Pieter Brueghel was a 16th century Netherlandish Renaissance painter who completed Landscape
with the Fall of Icarus in 1558. His painting was inspired by the ancient Greek myth of Daedalus
and Icarus. William Carlos Williams, a Puerto Rican American poet, wrote a poem inspired by
Brueghel s work in 1960 similarly titled Landscape with the Fall of Icarus. There is a common
theme displayed in both works which both execute and establish this theme with different visual
and literary connotations and strengths using differing amounts of information provided through
their artistic mediums. which create an effectiveness with the end all goal being to explain that
time will pass by regardless of what is going on in an individual s world even if they want it all to
stop at once.
The painting lays a scene of a landscape of an Island territory and several different people and
animals. In the eye catching foreground we see a farmer herding a large amount of animals
their focus is darted to the left of the painting. we will come to learn that all mentioned figures

Analysis Of Ram Charan s New York Times Bestseller,...
Strategic implementation is the process that turns strategies and plans into actions in order to
accomplish strategic objectives and goals. It should be considered the blueprint for realizing the
organization s vision. The success of any strategy is solely dependent upon the effectiveness of its
implementation and execution. Ram Charan s New York Times bestseller, Execution: The
Discipline of Getting Things Done, refers to implementation and execution of strategy as a
systematic way of exposing reality and acting on it. The framework for successful implementation
includes building an organization capable of executing strategy, proper resource allocation, support
policies, continuous improvement, performance based incentives, and strategic leadership.
KaBloom founder, David Hartstein, provided a sound strategy to realize his vision, however flaws
in various elements of implementation led to continued problems for KaBloom. Executing the
Vision As we learned in Section 3: Strategy Formulation, KaBloom sought to employ a
differentiation strategy in effort to create a competitive edge. They created brand recognition and a
niche within the market through visual differentiation, low cost, and product variety. Eye catching
stores, strategically located in high traffic areas, drew customers into the serene garden like
atmosphere with flowers cascading onto the storefront sidewalk. Their brand recognition was
created through this concept of store design, which differed

Capitalism During The Great Depression
For example, when a good is scarce, the prices goes up, so consumers try to avoid buying and
therefore conserving the resource. Then, the suppliers want to find more of the source as to get
a better profit. The reasons behind their actions are selfish, yet they benefit all of society. Smith
identified that the pursuit of profit and the power of self interest would increase motivation and
result in more advances in technology. His model of capitalism was on the basis of freedom and
selfishness as a motivator for society. It was also on the basis that the economy would go
through recessions and expansions but fix itself. Recessions are periods in the economy in which
unemployment goes up, while profits and spending goes down; a slowdown of the economy. An
expansion is essentially the exact opposite. The classical model of economics states that the
economy will continue to go through these fluctuations over time and will fix itself with no help,
thus not needing a government to give influence. Eventually, however, The Great Depression
happened, and there was no end in sight of the dramatic recession. The Great Depression was a
widespread crash of the market that happened in 1929 and lasted well into the 1930 s. For a long
time, no one knew why it had happened or when it would be over. Often considered capitalism s
savior, John Maynard Keynes noticed the lengthy depression and realized that something was
causing it to be stuck. He thought that the economy was not going to pick

The Democracy in United States Elections
Are United States elections democratic?
Democracy a universally recognized phenomenon refers to a government deriving its power from
the people and being answerable to them (Fox 2008). President Abraham Lincoln (Gettysburg
Address, 1863) said about democracy ...is a government of the people, by the people, and for the
people, shall not vanish from this earth (Fox 2008). The foundations of democracy in America are
found within, The Declaration of Independence of 1776 and The Constitution of 1789 , both
products of the American Revolution where equality and the rights of man were the focus of their
creation (Rodgers 2001). The first half of this paper discusses the notion that despite having the best
institutional powers that uphold democratic functions within the American government, this doesn
t always translate into the perfect democratic election.
The US Constitution separated power between three institutions of the state the Executive, the
Legislature and the Judiciary where no singular institution has all the power (Rodgers 2001). They
act to prevent the president arbitrarily appointing someone to a particular post, protecting
democratic process (Rodgers 2001). A large number of American officials are elected and are not
simply appointed anyway (Rodgers 2001). A democratic U.S nation with decentralized power and
responsibility like the United States is unique in its federal system of government, as these are
shared by national, state, and local governments

Analyze The Impact Of Terrorism On American Culture
Throughout the world, terrorism affects cultures in a myriad of ways. The United States
Department of Defense defines terrorism as, the calculated use of violence or the threat of violence
to inculcate fear; intended to coerce or to intimidate governments or societies in the pursuit of goals
that are generally political, religious, or ideological (DOD). Terrorismhas emerged in the last ten
years as one of the most crucial issues governments attempt to tackle. Many movies and documents
can help people better understand the major strain of terrorism. As seen by the effects of the
September eleventh attacks on American security, tourism and economy, the Taliban

piracy, terrorism has had an utmost impact on the world. September eleventh, 2001 was a tragic day
for not only the people of New York, but around the world. These attacks would shape America s
security, tourist industry, and the economy. The most immediate change was airport security, which

Essay On Broken Windows Theory
Introduction to the original Broken Windows Article Broken Windows theory was created by
George L. Kelling and James Q. Wilson in March 1982. Their article was based around the idea
that if small crimes were not punished, they would eventually lead into larger crimes.
The name of the article comes from the idea that is a broken window is not replaced as soon as it
is broken, then it is a sign that no one cares. And, as soon as no one cares, then larger more serious
crimes are permitted.
Throughout the article many different examples are used to support the idea that Broken Windows
Theory Policing is an effective way to fight crime. The primary example of this is in New York
City, when the then mayor of New York City took on Bratton as the new policechief. He then went
on to bring in Broken Windows policing. Almost immediately crime rates began to fall. However,
many people disagree about the true reason the crime rates fell.
A War Against Minorities Some that disagree with Broken Windows Theory claim it is not
actually a crime fighting strategy, but rather it was a under the radar call for the police to crack
down on minorities in the USA. Daniel Brook makes the claim that physical decay in
neighborhoods is not the most telling sign that a neighborhood is in decay, but rater that it is
racially determined. the actual level of physical disorder the number of boarded up buildings, for

Jackie Robinson was born on January 31, 1919 in Cairo, Georgia. He was the youngest out of

19th Century Prostitution
Across the 19th century the image of the prostitute and how she is portrayed in different novels
has evolved. While early depictions of a prostitute describe a woman who plagues society, later
portrayals offer a much more human and sympathetic view. Across many works of the 19th
century, there are several images of the prostitute that change overtime to reflect society s view
of these women. Between the character, Nana from Emile Zola s novel and Lulu from the silent
film Pandora s Box, there is visible evolution of the 19th century prostitute and her relationship to
society. Emile Zola s novel Nana offers a very negative and critical view of the prostitute in
French society. Zola s entire novel acts to criticize women like Nana for the disease... Show more

The prostitute Lulu, featured in the film Pandora s box offers a sympathetic mage of the
prostitute. The 1929 silent film is based off a set of plays called the Lulu plays from the late
19th century, and offers a more positive portrayal of a prostitute compared to earlier works from
the era. One aspect of Lulu that is not incorporated into the earlier 19th century image of a
prostitute is the prospect of marriage. Lulu is allowed to enter the upper class tier of life and does
so through marrying the Doctor. Allowing for a prostitute to be marry contradicts the early image
of an immoral woman that was associated with prostitutes like Nana. Along with this shift in
social status, Lulu is much more of a victim than earlier prostitutes like Nana were. By some
circumstances, Lulu is forced into prostitution by her father. Where prostitutes from the early 19th
century had always been the gross plague of society, with Lulu, she is a victim and a man (her
father) is shown to be the immoral character. This point is further supported by Lulu s death. While
most prostitutes from earlier works succumb to a disease of their own body, Lulu is murdered.
Again, Lulu is the victim not the cause of her suffering. The differences in the portrayal of Nana
and Lulu show an eveolution of the

Social Engagement Affects An Individual s Life
As individuals age, they are more at risk for cognitive impairments. Although there are multiple
forms of these impairments, they mostly affect an individual s life overall. Some aspects of these
cognitive impairments are natural, whereas the course of aging may increase an individual s
likelihood of progressing to Alzheimer s or dementia. On the other hand, some aspects, such as
physical activity and social engagement, are able to be controlled by the individual which may
decline the rate of cognitive impairments, such as memoryloss. There are three types of memory:

Prospective memory refers to the formation, storage, and retrieval and implementation of goals
and interactions (Braver West, 2008). This type plays a role in how memory is stored and
organized. An impact on memory and cognitive function as a whole includes social engagement.
Social engagement can be defined as being active and maintaining social connections (Hertzog,
Kramer, Wilson, Lindenberger, 2008). Having interactions with others results in less cognitive
decline. Studies have shown that individuals having social interactions daily weekly were roughly
40% less likely to develop dementia (Foster, Cornwell, Kisley, Davis, 2007). This statistic shows
that older adults spending their time interacting with others and partaking in social activities will
result in a reduced risk of developing dementia or other diseases. Not only does social interaction
have a positive effect on cognitive function, physical activity does as well. Engaging in physical
activity not only increases blood flow distribution, it also benefits executive control tasks, such as
planning and multitasking. Cognitive changes take place in the aging adult who may result in

Patent Law And The Patent System
Patent law provides the strongest monopoly rights of the intellectual property (formally known
as IP) system (Kratz, 2010). Patents may be thought of as a statutory monopoly right granted to
an individual for their specific invention (Kratz, 2010). Two observations about the patent system
may be made clear; it is often times thought of as a race, and inventions are built on the work of
others (Kratz, 2010). The idea of patenting is a largely controversial debate within the realm of
research; as any dispute, there are both pros and cons to each side. This paper will first look at both
sides of the argument regarding the patentsystem; however, by the end it will be made clear that the
negatives outweigh the positives of the patent system.
Benefits
The most predominate benefit to the patent system is that it gives the inventor the right to stop
others from taking credit for their work or ideas. By keeping the patent system, as a monopoly,
companies and individuals are more likely to be motivated to become innovative which, in turn has
the possibility of advancing the economy (Inventor Basics, 2011). Along with possibility of further
innovation, the patent holder maintains exclusive rights to use the invention as they wish. Therefore,
in some cases this leads to a higher profit for the inventor; which can balance out the costs of
applying for a patent (Inventor Basics, 2011). One further positive for the patent holder maintaining
all rights to their invention deals with the

1. Explain why OpenID offer users greater convenience and security than the current system
By using the current system, convenience and security are considered as problems, because the
different sites have a different ID for the same user and also because most of this sites are not
prepared to focus on security.

Even that the identity provider would solve the security issue; it also can be a weak point in our
connection. If there is some kind of phishing into the Open ID service, all our information and
passwords are there, so the one who gets into the system could get in our websites or modify our
information so that we could not enter again.
Another interesting point to take into account is related to the website we visit and we access to
through the Open ID. Many companies rely on user registration forms to gather information about
their clients and/or potential clients. By using an identity provider this kind of information
disappears or is hidden, so the companies will need to get the customers data through a different
way, which would be costly and hard.
3. Would you consider using an identity provider to access content on the Web? Why or why not?
In our opinion the identity provider is a useful tool; it is a new method that people can use in
order to stop giving their personal information to many sites in the web which are not secure
enough. It is also easier to remember just one login name and one password instead of having one
for each site. Even though, we don t think that the security issue could be a advantage for them;
for example if somebody gets access to your account at an Open ID provider he may get access to
any site

History Of U.s. And Cuba

The History of the U.S. and Cuba
The United States is known for being one of the greatest and strongest countries in the world
looking at past events and in this day and age. What might strike some people as shocking is that
the U.S. would not be as strong without close ties with other countries or allies. Examples would
be France, England, and Canada, plus many more. What people don t talk about is the U.S. s rivals
or countries that the U.S. has had trouble with in the past leading up to now. One of the most
renowned countries is only ninety miles away from the southern tip of Florida and that is Cuba.
Cuba is known for the fantastic beaches, some of the most well known baseball players around,
and, of course, Cuban cigars and rum. But, the past with Cuba is not as bright as the U.S. wants it
to be because of historical events such as the embargo, the Bay of Pigs, and the Cuban missile crisis
during World War II that caused the two countries to separate as allies and close tied nations. Over
the past year the U.S. and Cuba have been trying to put the past behind them and have diplomatic
and cultural relations once again. The last president to visit the nation of Cuba was President Calvin
Coolidge in 1928. Since then there has many problems between the two nations. Fourteen months
ago President Barrack Obama announced that there would be an effort in trying to normalize
relations with Cuba. As the President has

The Human Eye Is A Perfect Well Designed Optical System
Abstract
According to the report for the 2012 National Health Interview Survey, at least 1.5 million
Americans weakened their vision due to use of technology. However, thanks to advanced
technology and innovation people can choose between glasses and contacts as a therapy for
improving their eyesight. Contact lenses have become the fastest progressing medical devices in
optometry and have seen a number of significant improvements and developments since its
existence (Schaeffer, 2011). According to Centers For Disease Control And Prevention, the first
plastic contact lenses were produced between 1938 1940 in the United States and the first soft
lenses came later in the 70s.

Perovic had. I did not want to look anything like her! First day of school was right around the
corner and as I was getting ready for it questions kept circulating in my mind. What would my
friends think? I was the only one with glasses. How would I play sports with glasses? Would I
still get invited to birthday parties? Will boys like me? Some of my friends thought my glasses
were cool, but deep inside I knew they were just trying to make me feel good. I still got invited
to the parties, but boys did not like me. But all of that did not bother me as much. What bothered
me the most is that I could not play sports with my glasses. They kept slipping from my nose or
falling off my face on the ground whenever I tried jumping or doing cartwheels. I thought my life
would never be the same.
В¬Loss of vision can happen at any age, even at birth, it is not only geriatric condition. With
increased use of technology people s eyesight gets worse causing eyestrain, loss of vision and
other problems. More than 30 million people in the U.S. wear contact lenses due to eye conditions
such as myopia, hyperopia, keratoconus, astigmatism, or presbyopia (ЕўДѓlu et al., 2011). Though
contact lenses seem to be a recent phenomenon, the famous Italian architect, mathematician and
inventor Leonardo da Vinci (1452 1519) produced the first known sketches for it five hundred
years ago (Siviglia, 2010). This paper will examine the

Geological Structures Within The Earth
Geology Geological structures within the earth can determine a multitude of variables when
determining such things as formations, permeability, porosity, lithology, mineralogy, saturation and
normal/abnormal/subnormal pressure which in turn can provide the necessary information for
reservoir pay zones. The foundation for hydrocarbons is based off of the organic theory which
states that the hydrocarbons formed through an anaerobic environment (lacking oxygen) over time
with high pressures and relatively low temperatures (300В°F 392В°F) with carbon based
materials such as algae. The basis for algae is the fact that the ocean contained around 95% of
plankton in the ocean and reservoirs for hydrocarbons are found in sediments made up of... Show

Petroleum engineers deal only with sedimentary basin rocks in oil and gas drilling, and these
sedimentary rocks are types of rock that are formed by the deposition of material at the Earth s
surface and within bodies of water. Permeability in these rock is a measure of the ease with
which fluid flows through a porous rock, and is a function of the degree of interconnection
between the pores. Permeability can be separated into three parts: absolute, effective, and
relative. Absolute is when pore spaces are 100% saturated with the same fluid, effective is when
the permeability of a flowing phase that does not saturate 100% of the rock, and relative which
is the ratio of effective permeability to absolute permeability of the same rock. When
permeability is low the degree at which fluids can flow through the rock is low and therefore not
a good means of producing hydrocarbons. Even if a reservoir has a high saturation, a low
permeable rock will have no means of obtaining the porous medium. However this is not the only
cause with saturations of rock. The irreducible water saturation also plays a part in the production
of hydrocarbons. This is when water is held against the rock grains by surface tension and cannot
be produced which is determined by grain structure, i.e. size and mixture. Normal pressure below
the earth has a linear relationship with temperature and depth, i.e. as depth increases the
temperature and pressure increases, however

Guardrail Vegetation Research Paper
Safety is a number one priority when it comes to roadways, whether it s being in a vehicle,
walking across the road or riding a bicycle. One factor of being safe on and near roadways is to
know your surroundings. Guardrail vegetation is a major concern in many states because the
guardrails and signs need to be visible at all times, but some vegetation makes the guardrails and
signs sightless. Currently, herbicides are the cheapest and most efficient method, only if applied
twice every season. According to Washington State s Department of Transportation, if managed
properly, roadside vegetation can become self sustaining over time and require less maintenance,
which would help reduce both the cost and herbicide use. However, herbicides are unhealthy for
humans and the environment. When the application process occurs, those applying the herbicides
are required to wear suits to be protected from the dangerous chemicals. While the herbicides
treat the weeds, it also increases the risk of erosion, resulting in an uneven line between bare
ground and living vegetation. Herbicides can be a temporary solution, but if used for years, will
result in a limited number of species that will be able to grow. Of the surviving... Show more

Another concern is the molding on and around the guardrail posts can provide an opportunity for
vegetation growth, this has been seen in Delaware. Another method is to place weed barriers on the
roadsides. While this method seems to be the best solution, it requires a large amount of
maintenance. The barriers must have the amount of organic and inorganic debris monitored to
prevent build up, which can cause grass to grow. Even though maintenance is required to monitor
and clean, this is a viable option where herbicides and any chemical use is

Public Humiliation
Public humiliation supposedly enforces people s behaviors to change but does shame really
influence people to change? Most people have their different opinions on public humiliation but
either way Hester is a victim of this cruel well known Puritan punishment. On the other hand, as a
result of Reverend Dimmesdale withholding his sin, a hard hitting sickness secretly hits the
reverend. The scarlet letterlocated on Hester s chest is a constant reminder of her wrong decision. In
the novel The Scarlet Letter, author Nathaniel Hawthorneexpresses the effects of sin in many ways,
including public humiliation, Hester and the scarlet letter and Dimmesdale s sickness. Maria

Public humiliation affects Hester and Dimmesdale in different ways but as an effect of their
unpleasant acts they receive the same repercussions. Hester seems okay with the effects of public
humiliation providing she feels happy. Anyway Hester turns, people are watching her every
move. Many Puritan ladies use Hester as an example of what not do. Thus the young and pure be
taught to look at her, with the scarlet letter flaming on her breast, at her, the child of honorable
parents, at her, the mother of a babe, that would hereafter be a woman, as the figure, the body, the
reality of sin (Hawthorne 73). The author, Nathanial Hawthorne, states that the even though Hester
sins once, from the town s perspective it still defines her and everything she does. A few years
pass before anyone sees the scarlet letter located on her bosom with a different meaning. Before the
Puritans even consider Hester s side of the story, they think and want greater punishments for her.
Where there is no pain there is no gain seems to be their philosophy. The magistrates are God
fearing gentlemen, but merciful overmuch, that is a truth, added a third autumnal matron. At the
very least, they should have put the brand of a hot iron on Hester Prynne s forehead. Madame
Hester would have winced at that, I warrant me. But she,

Description: 17th Century New England and the Salem Witchcraft Trials
17th Century Colonial New England The 17th Century Colonial New England historical website
was produced and maintained by Margo Burns. Margo Burns is an independent scholar with a
bachelor s degree in English from Mount Holyoke College. While she has no academic background
in history, she has a growing reputation for specializing in the Salem witch trials, especially those in
North Andover. There is much history to explore in the 17th century; however, the witch trials of
Salem have attracted more scholarly attention than most events in colonial America. Although some
of the recent scholarship examines these trials, there is still so much more to learn about this
revolutionary event that impacted the American society. The Web site, 17th Century Colonial New
England, can help mitigate interested researchers. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

long fascinated writers and historians. In addition, she derived an interest in the subject when she

Therefore, as the site s creator, Burns provides a topical structured website with nine documents
from the trials; an account of one witchcraft trial written by Cotton Mather; four documents from
Salem court records; an annotated bibliography with 26 titles; a table listing more than 200 people

The North and South in Antebellum United States
The North and South in Antebellum United States In the time just before the Civil War, the United
States was one of the most successful nations in the world. The United States had become the world
s leading cotton producing country and had developed industry, which would in the future, surpass
that of Great Britain. Also, the United Statespossessed an advanced railroad and transportation
system. However, despite its successes, the United States was becoming increasingly divided. The
North and the South had many distinct differences in terms of their social, cultural, and economic
characteristics that brought about sectionalism and, eventually, the Civil War. The North s social
structure was very different from that of the South.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Factories in the North attracted former subsistence farmers because it was more efficient to buy
food rather than to grow it. Systems like the Lowell System employed young women, provided
them with room and board, and paid the women for their work in the factory. With the rise of
numerous new American inventions, machines became more efficient and the United States had
soon developed one of the best industrial economies in the world. Because of the need for effective
transportation to distribute goods, new forms of transportation such as elaborate railroad and canal
systems emerged. The south, on the other hand, clung to the slave based plantation system. The
economy was based largely on the production of raw materials, mainly cotton. Eli Whitney s cotton
gin allowed the cultivation of short staple cotton to bring Southern planters great success. Because
the cotton industry was so lucrative, Southerners had no reason to become industrialized. However,
the industrial economy of the North and the agrarian economy of the South led to a colonial
relationship between the two, meaning that the South sold raw materials to the North in exchange
for manufactured goods. The system put the South in an inferior position to the North, which
obviously upset Southerners and led to greater tension between the two regions. In the years prior
to the Civil War, the Northern and Southern regions of the U.S.

The American Dream For A Long Time Essay
House, a shelter for people, which is one of a basic requirement for human survival in today s
world. According to Andriotis (2014) and Shlay (2006), homeownership is regarded as an aspect
of the American dream for a long time (p.1) (p.527). The American dream, a pursuit that a large
number of US citizens seek, require individuals work hard to achieve it. In other words, owing a
propertyhas long been a gateway to the American dream. Individuals have possession of the house
if they have enough money to afford the payment on a home and be willing to purchase it.
Otherwise, people need to rent a house to guarantee that they have a relatively fixed shelter.
However, there are the limited rights for the tenants, and thus they have to depend on the decision
of owners, whereas the landlords have the power to make a decision on the property since they have
the housing ownership. Hence, whether to buy or rent have become a fundamental problem that
plagues the individuals. Elsinga and Hoekstra (2005) point that the homeownership not only in
favor of personal, but also benefit the community (p.403). Therefore, buying a house is over than
rentingsince it brings tremendous benefits to individuals. Specifically, purchasing a property is a
desirable option that generates tax benefit, build self confidence for owners, and profits the
construction of the community harmony rather than renting a house. While it is true that owning a

Advertising Medi An Important Aspect
When it comes to advertising, the advertising media is an important aspect. Advertising media are
the various means by which the message is communicated to the target market (Perrault, Cannon,
McCarthy, 2013). There are several aspects that an advertiser must consider when choosing the best
advertising medium to use, which can change depending on the situation. One way that advertisers
can ensure effectiveness in terms of their advertisingmedia is to make sure that they give careful
consideration of their promotion objectives, the target markets that they want to reach, the available
funds for advertising, and finally the nature of the media (Perrault, Cannon, McCarthy, 2013). The
nature of the media includes whom they want to reach, with what frequency, with what impact, and
at what cost (Perrault, Cannon, McCarthy, 2013). For each of the types of media, however, there
are advantages as well as disadvantages.
Fitting the advertising medium with the promotion objectives is crucial, and all advertisers
should make sure that the two are aligned properly. If the advertiser is aiming to inform their
audience and has the need to relay a story with pictures, then they may want to use the internet
because it can allow them to go into detail. On the other hand, if an advertiser would like to
persuade, they may want to use television in order to reach a wider market and show their product
being used and how it can benefit their audience. Finally if the objective of the

Information Systems And Database Technology
Health information systems and database technology continue to advance and grow and allow users
to pull data and interconnect like ever before. The goal for this discussion is to better familiarize
you with fundamental concepts in relation to database systems and relevant health information
standards. We will also be comparing three of the top ten most purchased EHR systems for
comparison, allowing you to understand the functionality of each system, as well as, the barriers to
implementation. A databaseis a collection of information organized so that a computer program
can quickly select desired pieces of data. A database can be thought of as an electronic filing
system. An example would be how a large hospital uses and stores medical records. Most
databases are organized by fields, records, and files. Databases can be quite simple counting only
a single table which is composed of a record, which are made up of fields or can be large and
contain many records and fields (Beaumont 2000). Databases can be paper based but most are
computer based. Databases in computers are usually handled by software called DataBase
Management Systems (DBMS) (Beaumont 2000). These are a collection of programs that enables
you to organize, enter, and select data in a database. Some examples are Oracle, Access and
Paradox. Some components of DBMS include table and structured data, meta data, action
/privileges, queries and reports, and programming language. A table is collection of data

  • 2. Young Adults First-Time Voters Voting Process EXECUTIVE SUMARY This brief is written for Roy Morgan Agency on behalf of the Greens party. It presents a background about young adults disengaged attitude towards politics, particularly among the 18 25 years old group. Recent research by Australian Electoral Commission indicates that 30% of total missing electoral votes belongs to this age group. Expanding understanding about young adults disengagement and decision making process is vital since a major shift in the youth vote will be sufficient to change an election outcome, especially when their support for the Greens are growing. In order to gain their support, it is important to develop deeper knowledge about how young adults /first time voters make their choices in elections and from ... • 3. Railroad Safety After reading the information, and watching the videos on keeping us safe, and protecting us from accidents, I realized that railroad crossing is a serious thing, and we need to be careful when we are crossing the tracks. I have realized that it comes down to being smart, careful, and using common sense. When red lights are blinking, you should stop, and be extremely cautious. LIke it said in one of the videos, it is not worth it to risk anything. If we are all just a little smarter when we are around railroad crossings, and we use our heads we should all be fine. I think another key to being safe is keeping the distractions in our pockets. If we are on our phone we are much less likely to pay attention to our surroundings, and what is going... Not only are you incredibly unsafe, you are actually breaking a law, and there could be serious consequences for doing that. Not only are the tracks dangerous, but not being smart on platform, and around the cars. Around the train cars is not a place to mess around. It is dangerous, and you should follow all of the rules that are posted. They aren t posted to make our lives harder, they are posted to help us out, keep us safe, and make sure that no one gets hurt. I think that if we all just follow the rules that are posted, we use common sense, put our phones away, and are cautious, we can help each other out, and be safe in these situations. That is what I got out of the sources that I read, and listen to. In the video, it s your choice, there are many different stories about tragedies and other sad stories. I didn t realize how serious these injuries, and accidents can be. I thought it was very interesting that when a train hits a car, it s like a car running over a soda can. • 4. The Great Leaders Of The Civil Rights Movement Throughout history, people have made sacrifices, changes, and big decisions that later sometimes result in something grand. These grand occurrences can either be good or bad. Usually as time goes on these events and most well known people of this time are highlighted in history classes for students to learn and to honor those of that time. However, some of the smaller people that contributed to historical events aren t as highlighted as those that were seen as the big leaders. For example, in the American Revolution, the people that usually come to mind are George Washington, Paul Revere, and Thomas Jefferson. What about the people who were injured, scared and killed because of this bloody war? They seem to be forgotten until they are highlighted once again. Another example of a person that was not really highlighted for their actions is Nina Simone. She made an impact on the Civil Right Movement that not many other artist or celebrity would have done. When you think of the Civil Rights Movementthe first three that come to mind of course are, Martin Luther King Jr., Malcom X, and Rosa Parks. So, when someone hears the name Nina Simone the two most common responses might be Who s that? or Oh the singer? . But what is forgotten is how she, at such a high level, put her reputation at a risk. Nina Simone was a very well known singer of the 1950s and 1960s especially for her song Feeling Good . She didn t just use her popularity for fame and money but to express ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The media usually frame the story for the public to understand all these events. Through framing, they highlight some of the issues to capture the attention of the audience in an individual occurrence (Liu, 8). The theory describes framing in two ways, the media frame, and the audience frame. According to Gitlin media frame helps the journalist in recognition, interpretation, and dissemination of the information. On the other hand, the audience frames are the patterns of cognition and description of events and idea that news anchors develop in the mind of the spectators. • 6. Lord Of The Flies Civilization Analysis Within any civilization, there are multiple key components required in order to create a functioning society. As explained through Lord of the Flies by William Golding, these pivotal building blocks of a civilization can play a great part into bringing a group of people to society, or drag them all down into savagery. The conch shell is an excellent example of political legitimacy and democratic power. Although, while this device can be used for good; providing others with order and sanity, it can also be used for the utter destruction of a civilization. The conch shell in Lord of the Flies by William Goldingbegins as civilization and order, becomes the fragility of power and influence, and concludes with the collapse of any civilized thoughts. Civilization and order can be found within every society, and this is no exception within the group of boys in the beginning of the novel. Throughout the exposition of the story, governance over the group of boys was unknown. No order was established to influence the boys to cooperate and fulfill the needed tasks to get off the island. Although, there was a stillness about Ralph as he sat that marked him out: there was his size, and attractive appearance...yet most powerfully, there was the conch. The being that had blown that, had sat waiting for them on the platform with the delicate thing balanced on his knees, was set apart (Golding 22). The conch shell was able to control and demand a large audience. It provided Ralph with a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. How Great Was Nicholas To Blame For The 1905 Revolution... Was Nicholas Completely to Blame for the 1905 Revolution of Russia? In the year 1905, Russia experienced an attempted revolution through the means of its people. It could be argued that the tsar, Nicholas, was to blame for this revolution due to the amount of upset and discontent he brought not only within his country, but many others such as Poland and Finland too. It could be argued that Nicholas overall attitude towards being a ruler and to his people encouraged the revolution of 1905 as he made no attempt to stop it but only encourage it. The initial issue that Nicholas faced was the many opposition groups that attempted to thwart his rule. Incidentally however, the Mir, which caters for peasant/farmers lives by dividing land and food, had poor menials of maintaining land and improving it so that its people s food grew better and the land was more easily farmed, allowing peasants to make extra food so that they could go on to sell it instead of making just enough food to maintain their life. However, Nicholas cannot be fully blamed for this through the fact in the north of Russia, there was poor soil originally making it harder to grow crops on and maintain. Additionally, there was a small amount of time of growing season for the peasants meaning ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Compare And Contrast The Whiskey Rebellion And Daniel Shays Destiny Manston per.4 Dept, Taxes, and Daniel Shays Daniel Shays Rebellion took place during the time of America s post war depression that from 1784 1787. The rebellion fits into the theme of culture and society . The confederation had an enormous debt that had built up during the Revolutionary War. Congress showed its weakness that weighed heavily on debtors and having no power to tax. The confederation could only make requisition on the states but even then could only receive one sixth of the money. Robert Morris and his Philadelphia allies had an idea for a centralized government after the flaws found in the Articles of Confederation. Because the states also had post war dept, they had to rely on taxation to get payed back. The increase of taxation caused Nationalists to became outraged toward the government who felt that they were being treated unfairly (and in some cases felt that the government was being tyrannical). The burdened farmers demanded paper money to fulfill the obligations. The effect of the increased burdens of debt and taxation caused farmers to riot periodically in various parts of New England in the late 1700s. The Dissidents from Connecticut Valley and Berkshire Massachusetts rallied behind Daniel Shay who was a former captain of the Continental army. An example of something similar happening was the Whiskey Rebellion. Both revolts include an anarchy that called for the modifying of the government. Shay called for a changing of ... I wanted to make this behavior change because I find myself feeling tired and exhausted throughout the day because of the lack of sleep I get. Looking into the vast ocean upon me I knew I had survived the plane crash, but how could I have ended up on this mysterious island? I sat there for a moment trying to piece together what had occurred. It was June 17, 1979 and I was on a planeheading to Bosnia for a mission trip when the plane encountered engine problems. There were several loud booms coming from the cockpit when suddenly a huge explosion rips through the fuselage tearing the aircraft into several pieces. At this point I was sure death was upon me. Somehow, I managed to survive the plummet into the ocean and swim to a piece of debris floating in the water. This was the last thing I remember until waking up on the shore. God sure must have been looking out for me to have survived that crash! After the shock had set in that I was still alive, it was time to decide what to do to survive on this island. Not knowing how long I will be here, there are three very important things to locate: food, water, and shelter. I walked along the shore looking for anything to wash up from the crash. I stumbled upon a few suitcases filled with clothes and several other items I could use to my disposal. While searching the shore I found absolutely no sign of life and realized that I was the only survivor that had made it to land. I remember being in a lawsuit as a witness for somebody robing a store. When I accused the robber his lawyer told me not to call him a thief since the case was not over and was not accuse of any crime yet. He said to call him a non traditional shopper . I said give me a break!!! The next paragraph will deal with other dangers that threaten society as a whole: Technology. Mr. Huxley referred the danger of technology as a dependency of the individual from totalitarian forces. Would he mean that we can one day blow ourselves up? No not at all. What he was referring to was the use of technology to spy on citizens for no other reason than to keep track of everybody on this planet. This incredible author had the audacity to predict exactly what we are facing right now. Let s go back to one of the greatest tragedy ever perpetuated in this wonderful country of ours. These economies are newly industrialized and are on their way to becoming developed economies but have not yet reached that status. The more common and likely heard developing economies consists of BRIC (Brazil, Russia, India, and China) followed by Mexico, South Korea, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, and Indonesia. Developed nations (MEDC) include the westernised countries such as the U.S, the U.K and Japan. In 1999, Dr. Kvint published this definition: Emerging market country is a society transitioning from a dictatorship to a free market oriented economy, with increasing economic freedom, gradual integration with the Global Marketplace and with other members of the GEM (Global Emerging Market), an expanding middle class, improving standards of living, social stability and tolerance, as well as an increase in cooperation with multilateral institutions This essay will locate the common characteristics that emerging marketsshare. The first characteristic is that they share a below average income per capita. This means that the average person earns less in comparison to rest of the world. • 18. New France Economy Essay There were many things that brought about the development of the economy in New France. They ranged from simple things like fishers and traders and then developed into a global scale market, with trade passing to and from Europe and New France regularly. This process evolved from a simple fishing operation to a market driven colony with a massive network of trading posts, which in turn began the fur trade and monopolies which later led to the industrial development of New France. Fishing in North America began very early in the 16th century. In 1550, about 500 ships sailed from France heading to North America for the fish laden waters there. Upon arrival, they formed fishing communities along the northern coast of Newfoundland, and in Saint... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The theory was that the more a country exported, the larger the economy it had. This system relied on exporting as much as possible while collecting as many raw materials without importing from other states. European powers developed their economies and colonies based on this concept. The colonies would supply the mother countries factories while also providing a point of sale for the finished products. Meanwhile, the mother countries would rely on these raw materials in order to manufacture them and then sell them to other states. This attitude is what led to the development of the trading post colonies in New France, which were created in order to supply the mother country with materials to manufacture. During the late 16th century, New France was a colony based on exploitation and trade. Trading posts were being built for the fur trade because of a lot of merchants, ship owners, explorers, and traders taking an interest in it. The first trading post was built in Tadoussac in 1600. It was followed shortly after by a second in Acadia that was built in 1604. In 1608, Samuel de Champlain founded the first permanent trading post, the Quebec City ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Society placed high importance and many expectations for these women on behavior at home as well as in public. Women were supposed to fulfil certain roles, such as a caring mother, a diligent homemaker, and an obedient wife. The perfect mother was supposed to stay home and nurture so society would accept them. In fact, even if a womanwanted to voice an opinion, her lack of education would not allow it . The play A Streetcar Named Desire is set during the late 1940 s and early 1950 s period where it describes the decline of a fading Southern belle named Blanche DuBois . Strategic implementation is the process that turns strategies and plans into actions in order to accomplish strategic objectives and goals. It should be considered the blueprint for realizing the organization s vision. The success of any strategy is solely dependent upon the effectiveness of its implementation and execution. Ram Charan s New York Times bestseller, Execution: The Discipline of Getting Things Done, refers to implementation and execution of strategy as a systematic way of exposing reality and acting on it. The framework for successful implementation includes building an organization capable of executing strategy, proper resource allocation, support policies, continuous improvement, performance based incentives, and strategic leadership. KaBloom founder, David Hartstein, provided a sound strategy to realize his vision, however flaws in various elements of implementation led to continued problems for KaBloom. • 23. Capitalism During The Great Depression For example, when a good is scarce, the prices goes up, so consumers try to avoid buying and therefore conserving the resource. Then, the suppliers want to find more of the source as to get a better profit. The reasons behind their actions are selfish, yet they benefit all of society. Smith identified that the pursuit of profit and the power of self interest would increase motivation and result in more advances in technology. His model of capitalism was on the basis of freedom and selfishness as a motivator for society. It was also on the basis that the economy would go through recessions and expansions but fix itself. Recessions are periods in the economy in which unemployment goes up, while profits and spending goes down; a slowdown of the economy. An expansion is essentially the exact opposite. The classical model of economics states that the economy will continue to go through these fluctuations over time and will fix itself with no help, thus not needing a government to give influence. Eventually, however, The Great Depression happened, and there was no end in sight of the dramatic recession. The Great Depression was a widespread crash of the market that happened in 1929 and lasted well into the 1930 s. For a long time, no one knew why it had happened or when it would be over. Often considered capitalism s savior, John Maynard Keynes noticed the lengthy depression and realized that something was causing it to be stuck. He thought that the economy was not going to pick ... Democracy a universally recognized phenomenon refers to a government deriving its power from the people and being answerable to them (Fox 2008). President Abraham Lincoln (Gettysburg Address, 1863) said about democracy ...is a government of the people, by the people, and for the people, shall not vanish from this earth (Fox 2008). The foundations of democracy in America are found within, The Declaration of Independence of 1776 and The Constitution of 1789 , both products of the American Revolution where equality and the rights of man were the focus of their creation (Rodgers 2001). Their article was based around the idea that if small crimes were not punished, they would eventually lead into larger crimes. The name of the article comes from the idea that is a broken window is not replaced as soon as it is broken, then it is a sign that no one cares. And, as soon as no one cares, then larger more serious crimes are permitted. Throughout the article many different examples are used to support the idea that Broken Windows Theory Policing is an effective way to fight crime. Almost immediately crime rates began to fall. However, many people disagree about the true reason the crime rates fell. The 1929 silent film is based off a set of plays called the Lulu plays from the late 19th century, and offers a more positive portrayal of a prostitute compared to earlier works from the era. One aspect of Lulu that is not incorporated into the earlier 19th century image of a prostitute is the prospect of marriage. Lulu is allowed to enter the upper class tier of life and does so through marrying the Doctor. Allowing for a prostitute to be marry contradicts the early image of an immoral woman that was associated with prostitutes like Nana. Along with this shift in social status, Lulu is much more of a victim than earlier prostitutes like Nana were. By some circumstances, Lulu is forced into prostitution by her father. Where prostitutes from the early 19th century had always been the gross plague of society, with Lulu, she is a victim and a man (her father) is shown to be the immoral character. Patents may be thought of as a statutory monopoly right granted to an individual for their specific invention (Kratz, 2010). Two observations about the patent system may be made clear; it is often times thought of as a race, and inventions are built on the work of others (Kratz, 2010). The idea of patenting is a largely controversial debate within the realm of research; as any dispute, there are both pros and cons to each side. This paper will first look at both sides of the argument regarding the patentsystem; however, by the end it will be made clear that the negatives outweigh the positives of the patent system. Benefits The most predominate benefit to the patent system is that it gives the inventor the right to stop others from taking credit for their work or ideas. By keeping the patent system, as a monopoly, companies and individuals are more likely to be motivated to become innovative which, in turn has the possibility of advancing the economy (Inventor Basics, 2011). Along with possibility of further innovation, the patent holder maintains exclusive rights to use the invention as they wish. Therefore, in some cases this leads to a higher profit for the inventor; which can balance out the costs of applying for a patent (Inventor Basics, 2011). What might strike some people as shocking is that the U.S. would not be as strong without close ties with other countries or allies. Examples would be France, England, and Canada, plus many more. What people don t talk about is the U.S. s rivals or countries that the U.S. has had trouble with in the past leading up to now. One of the most renowned countries is only ninety miles away from the southern tip of Florida and that is Cuba. Cuba is known for the fantastic beaches, some of the most well known baseball players around, and, of course, Cuban cigars and rum. But, the past with Cuba is not as bright as the U.S. wants it to be because of historical events such as the embargo, the Bay of Pigs, and the Cuban missile crisis during World War II that caused the two countries to separate as allies and close tied nations. Over the past year the U.S. and Cuba have been trying to put the past behind them and have diplomatic and cultural relations once again. Geological Structures Within The Earth Geology Geological structures within the earth can determine a multitude of variables when determining such things as formations, permeability, porosity, lithology, mineralogy, saturation and normal/abnormal/subnormal pressure which in turn can provide the necessary information for reservoir pay zones. The foundation for hydrocarbons is based off of the organic theory which states that the hydrocarbons formed through an anaerobic environment (lacking oxygen) over time with high pressures and relatively low temperatures (300В°F 392В°F) with carbon based materials such as algae. The basis for algae is the fact that the ocean contained around 95% of plankton in the ocean and reservoirs for hydrocarbons are found in sediments made up of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Petroleum engineers deal only with sedimentary basin rocks in oil and gas drilling, and these sedimentary rocks are types of rock that are formed by the deposition of material at the Earth s surface and within bodies of water. Permeability in these rock is a measure of the ease with which fluid flows through a porous rock, and is a function of the degree of interconnection between the pores. Permeability can be separated into three parts: absolute, effective, and relative. Absolute is when pore spaces are 100% saturated with the same fluid, effective is when the permeability of a flowing phase that does not saturate 100% of the rock, and relative which is the ratio of effective permeability to absolute permeability of the same rock. When permeability is low the degree at which fluids can flow through the rock is low and therefore not a good means of producing hydrocarbons. Even if a reservoir has a high saturation, a low permeable rock will have no means of obtaining the porous medium. However this is not the only cause with saturations of rock. The irreducible water saturation also plays a part in the production of hydrocarbons. This is when water is held against the rock grains by surface tension and cannot be produced which is determined by grain structure, i.e. size and mixture. One factor of being safe on and near roadways is to know your surroundings. Guardrail vegetation is a major concern in many states because the guardrails and signs need to be visible at all times, but some vegetation makes the guardrails and signs sightless. Currently, herbicides are the cheapest and most efficient method, only if applied twice every season. According to Washington State s Department of Transportation, if managed properly, roadside vegetation can become self sustaining over time and require less maintenance, which would help reduce both the cost and herbicide use. However, herbicides are unhealthy for humans and the environment. When the application process occurs, those applying the herbicides are required to wear suits to be protected from the dangerous chemicals. While the herbicides treat the weeds, it also increases the risk of erosion, resulting in an uneven line between bare ground and living vegetation. Herbicides can be a temporary solution, but if used for years, will result in a limited number of species that will be able to grow. Of the surviving... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Because of the need for effective transportation to distribute goods, new forms of transportation such as elaborate railroad and canal systems emerged. The south, on the other hand, clung to the slave based plantation system. The economy was based largely on the production of raw materials, mainly cotton. Eli Whitney s cotton gin allowed the cultivation of short staple cotton to bring Southern planters great success. Because the cotton industry was so lucrative, Southerners had no reason to become industrialized. However, the industrial economy of the North and the agrarian economy of the South led to a colonial relationship between the two, meaning that the South sold raw materials to the North in exchange for manufactured goods. Advertising media are the various means by which the message is communicated to the target market (Perrault, Cannon, McCarthy, 2013). There are several aspects that an advertiser must consider when choosing the best advertising medium to use, which can change depending on the situation. One way that advertisers can ensure effectiveness in terms of their advertisingmedia is to make sure that they give careful consideration of their promotion objectives, the target markets that they want to reach, the available funds for advertising, and finally the nature of the media (Perrault, Cannon, McCarthy, 2013). The nature of the media includes whom they want to reach, with what frequency, with what impact, and at what cost (Perrault, Cannon, McCarthy, 2013). For each of the types of media, however, there are advantages as well as disadvantages. Fitting the advertising medium with the promotion objectives is crucial, and all advertisers should make sure that the two are aligned properly. If the advertiser is aiming to inform their audience and has the need to relay a story with pictures, then they may want to use the internet because it can allow them to go into detail. A databaseis a collection of information organized so that a computer program can quickly select desired pieces of data. A database can be thought of as an electronic filing system. Databases can be quite simple counting only a single table which is composed of a record, which are made up of fields or can be large and contain many records and fields (Beaumont 2000). Databases can be paper based but most are computer based. Databases in computers are usually handled by software called DataBase Management Systems (DBMS) (Beaumont 2000). These are a collection of programs that enables you to organize, enter, and select data in a database. Some examples are Oracle, Access and Paradox.
