Case Study Guidelines<br />Due Session 12<br />Background Information<br />Age of student:<br />Grade:<br />Gender:<br />Background information:  Discuss any information about the student’s academic performance that you were aware of prior to testing. <br />Administer an Interest Inventory and summarize results<br />Summary of performance on the IRI <br />Describe the overall performance and discuss noted areas of strengths and weaknesses (both qualitative and quantitative information). What cueing systems and strategies did the student use consistently?  What patterns of errors were evident?  Is there a discrepancy between the word identification tests (word lists) and word identification in the oral reading passages (words in context)?  Describe performance in relation to current grade level.<br />Identify the frustration, instructional and independent level on the word lists.<br />Identify the frustration, instructional and independent level on the oral reading passages.<br />Identify the highest level of listening comprehension.   How did it compare to the student’s oral comprehension?<br />Attach the Quantitative Analysis and Qualitative Analysis forms as well as the passages used to determine the frustration, instructional and independent reading levels. <br />Summary of performance on the DAR <br />Provide a summary of the overall performance and an analysis of the noted areas of strength and weakness.  Be sure to include a discussion of the student’s performance on each subtest.    Describe performance in relation to current grade level.  <br />Attach test and complete p. 55 of test – DAR Instructional Profile <br />Comparison of Assessments <br />Compare and contrast the student’s performance on both assessments.  Did the results correlate with each other?  Did you get consistent oral reading levels?   Where the levels of comprehension comparable?  What may explain differences in results?  Were there overall discrepancies between assessed reading levels and the student’s academic achievement?  <br />Remediation <br />What area of weakness have you chosen to target for remediation?  How do your test results support this finding?  What activities/strategies will you use for remediation?  Why are these strategies appropriate?  Describe the strategies/activities in detail.  Attach any hand-outs or visuals.<br />If choosing an area for enrichment, follow the same guidelines.<br />Prepare to share model one strategy in class as part of your case study presentation.<br />
