Depressants And Its Effects On The Brain
Depressants Most depressants effect the brain just by increasing the moments of gamma aminobutyric
acid (GABA), a biological in the brain that sends messages between every cell. The activity increased
GABA to slow down the brain activity. This is a relaxing effect that can be very helpful to people with
anxiety problems. Although there s also a negative side effects to this too much GABA activity,
though, can be harmful. These effects can lead to serious accidents or injuries. These types of
depressants can also lead you to physical dependence this is another reason why they should only be
used as prescribed. Dependence is a feeling that makes you feel uncomfortable or sick when you try to
stop taking the drug, and it can only lead

Diary Of Rubashov Extract
The novel begins with N.S. Rubashov, the main character of the story, who is found in prison cell No.
404. He is in bed, ready to sleep, when he recalls the time he was arrested by soldiers who have the
knowledge of his position in the Soviet Union leadership team. Finally, he wakes up with a horrible
toothache and is very hungry from food deprivation. Then, he reminiscences his missions in foreign
nations that required him to betray others, or use them to his advantage. One of these missions were in
Germany, where a revolutionary group supported by the USSR Communist Party was failing. The
leader of this revolutionary group, a man named Richard, questioned the Party s propaganda and
publicizing of the cause, so Rubashov kicked him out of the party. As Rubashov continues to recall his
missions, he is reminded of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This time, it is about the maturity level of the mass people. The extract also relates to the pendulum
movement and the challenging laws of production and mass distribution/exportation of goods. After
the night Rubashov and Ivanov discuss the options for the confession, Rubashov writes a capitulation
in hopes of a minute sentence like promised by Ivanov. However, the day of the next hearing, Ivanov
is not the magistrate; rather, it is Gletkin, much to the bad luck of Rubashov. Rubashov is then
informed that Ivanov had been executed and that Gletkin was given full responsibility for the
interrogation in Rubashov s case. Gletkin, known for his physical pressure methods, immediately
resorts to sleep deprivation. He makes Rubashov sit in front of a lamp and makes him glare at it for
hours and hours. Rubashov was compelled to confess to multiple convictions, including the scheme to
poison Stalin s morning meal. About five days after strenuous examination, Rubashov faints from
sleep deprivation. In court, he fully confesses his crimes in

Mexican Drugs
Mexico: Drugs or Democracy
Introduction
Illicit drug trade between Mexico and the United States, estimated between $17 billion and $38 billion
a year in 2009 by the Drug Intelligence Center, has a long and storied past. Cartels operated with
relative impunity from government prosecution during the seventy year reign of the Institutional
Revolutionary Party, (PRI). The movement from an authoritarian government system of the PRI to the
liberal democracy initiated by the election victory of the National Action Party, (PAN), candidate,
Vicente Fox, in 2000, disrupted the status quo. Election gains by PAN Representatives disrupted long
standing agreements between the cartels and government officials which led to the increased violence

The DFS was supposed to fight drugs but one of the founders, Senator Colonel Carlos Serrano, was
tied to the drug cartels. His appointment provided a direct link between the ruling political party and
the drug cartels ensuring a flow of profits to government officials in exchange for protection and also
mitigated the need for drug traffickers to participate in politics. This collaborative arrangement
produced several decades of minimal drug related violence which was directed at opposing groups and
did not affect the general population.
Social changes in the United States during the 1960s and 1970 accompanied increased consumption of
marijuana and later cocaine use became more widespread in the 19080s. The proliferation of drug use
in American society prompted a change in the political view on drugs and the United States
government declared war on drugs. The U.S. government focused on the drug producing and
trafficking nations and pressured those nations into joining the war . Mexico was pressured into
heightening its efforts to combat drugs which included military operations to destroy drug trade and
growing fields. These efforts focused on migrant workers forced into labor by the drug lords, barely
disrupting the cartel s operations.
The link between the DFS and the Mexican political structure came to an end with the assassination of
U.S. DEA agent, Enrique Camarena, in 1985 and the subsequent pressure on the Mexican government.

Communicable disease outbreak of the Measles
Communicable disease outbreak occurs when there is a larger then expected incidence of a disease. It
can affect a small group or thousands of people in a region. In some instances even just two
independent cases can lead to an outbreak, eventually leading to an epidemic, or pandemic which
refers to a global outbreak. Measles is a communicable disease that is highly contagious according to
the World Health Organization (WHO). The good news is that it is a preventable disease, because
there is a vaccine that is available to prevent people from contracting it. One complication that arises
is when some people ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This disease can lead to severe pneumonia, diarrhea, encephalitis and in a worst case scenario could
even cause death.
Facts and figures available to study the epidemiological data for the outbreak of measles include
gathering suspected and confirmed cases of this disease from the World Health Organization. This is
done by gathering serum samples from all suspected cases to determine if a measles specific
immunoglobulin antibody is detected. This particular disease lives in the nose and throat of the
infected individual and is considered contagious for a period of four days before the rash appears and
for a further four days after the sighting of the rash.
The route of transmission of the disease is via infected droplets that spray into the air when people
cough, sneeze or talk. These droplets can then be inhaled by other people who are in close proximity
to the person who is infected. Unfortunately, these droplets can remain active and contagious for
several hours on a surface, such that when you touch it with your fingers and then touch your nose or
mouth you can become infected. While most cases are easily diagnosed by simply looking at the
patient, in the majority of cases it is preferable to have blood tests to confirm 100%. Typically the
patient will have a rash that looks like small, bright Koplik s spots on the inside

Realistic Portrayal Of Dogra
Realistic Portrayal of Dogra Society is B.P. Sathe s Short Story Kudme da Lahma.
Dogri language is my mother tongue as I belong to the Dogra society. Dogras are known for their
bravery and valour. India s Dogra regiment fought in the British army in the world war and thus
brought laurels to the name of Dogras. Another major contribution of dogras is the accession of
Kashmir to India. It was because of active role of dogra rulers that Kashmir became a part of
independant India after partition. Now a days a whole genre of research has opened up dogra culture
and literature to be read and analysed. In this paper an attempt has been made to study Sathe s short
story to bring out elements of reality in his fictional work.

Table 2: Summary of characteristics Prostatic Specific Antigen (PSA)
Characteristic Data Comments
Classification PSA is a glycoprotein produced by the prostate epithelial cells Cancer may elevate
levels both from increased production and because tissue barriers between the gland lumen and
vascular bed are disrupted.
PSA Levels PSA has a half life of 2.2 days and elevated levels vary in recovery depending on the
cause of the elevation PSA elevation may precede clinical cancer by 5 10 years.
Specificity PSA is organ specific, not cancer specific. Using 4.0 ng/ml as cut off for abnormal the
specificity is 91% and 85% for cut off of 3.0 ng/ml Elevated levels also found in BPH and
prostatitis/UTIs, post prostate biopsy and in acute urinary retention (do not test for 2 4 weeks).
Negligible level increases due to DRE.
Sensitivity Most screening studies use 4.0 ng/ml as cut off for abnormal levels, but a review of the
literature in 2006 showed the estimated sensitivity using 4.0 was only 21% for detecting cancer and
51% for detecting high grade (Gleason 8). In 2009, estimates of 4.3 to 73% sensitivity were given
(www.parliament.nz/resource0000166364). Using 3.0 cut off increased sensitivities to 32 and 68%.
(Arch Ital Androl 1006 78 (4) 125 9) Cancer may be present with normal PSA levels, and a PSA level
may not correlate with the acuity of the prostate cancer. A later study concluded that no single cut off

The Yellow Birds By Kevin Powers
Athletes train for countless hours in hopes to help their teams win games, but sometimes they can t
always come out on top. Students put in long hours studying for tests attempting to earn a good grade.
There are times where that effort is rewarded with a poor grade. Gifts are bought with the idea that
whoever is receiving the present is going to love it, but the buyer realizes that they messed up because
the gift is absolutely hated. These are examples of instances where people were trying to do good
things but ultimately failed. In the novel, The Yellow Birds by Kevin Powers you see characters that
have the intent to do good, but come up short and fail. Everybody has instances throughout their lives
where they will try extremely hard, but fail in the end. A lot of these instances may even be just the
smallest things, but when they happen it is never a good feeling. You will get feelings of
disappointment, and anger, but the problems that occur in Kevin Power s book are much more than
that. The book The Yellow Birds is a fictional story, but the thing that makes it so good is that the
author was in the war himself. Even though this great story is made up, Kevin Powers definitely had
an advantage on explaining how powerful the war really was on people. What was written in the book
could be very similar to things he had experienced himself while he served our country. Just by
reading his fight scenes he had written about, you can tell he knew what he was talking about

Death with dignity Essay
Dying With Dignity
On Tuesday, March 24, an elderly Oregon woman, acting with the aid of a doctor, dosed herself with
potent chemicals and died. The woman had lived with breast cancer for more than 20 years. By all
accounts her final hours were private and peaceful, as she became one of the first people in American
history to end her life lawfully with the aid of a physician (Oregonian A1).
She was able to end her life peacefully due to controversial legislation passed in her state. The Death
with Dignity Act was passed by the state of Oregon in 1994. It allows physicians to prescribe a lethal
dose of medication so that a terminally ill patient can end his or her life. The requirements set forth by

Jones. In his dissent, he stated, It does not violate the Controlled Substances Act s nonpreemption
provision. It neither exceeds the Attorney General s statutory authority under the Controlled
Substances Act (The Federal Register 12). Therefore, this action would be detrimental to all those who
do not choose to wait for death. In November of 2004 Ashcroft appealed to the Supreme Court and
they will hear the case later this year. It is likely the Supreme Court will interpret the regulations in
accordance with the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals but if it fails to do so Oregon will be forced to repeal
the statute.
This law has brought peace to 171 terminally ill and suffering individuals in a very painless and
humane manner. Only 3 of the 43 patients experienced complications in 2003. The only complications
reported in these 3 cases were vomiting. One half of all patients became unconscious within four
minutes of ingesting the lethal medication and all died within 20 minutes. The range of time from
ingestion to death was five minutes to 48 hours (Sixth Annual Report T3.9).
Physician assisted suicide accomplishes much more than ending suffering before death. The right is of
the individual and should be respected by our government. It is a fundamental freedom that we all
should have. It allows a person to die with dignity and prevents the illness from killing them before
they die. The Death with Dignity Act is very similar to other forms of euthanasia

Of Mice And Men Are White
For the most part, the characters in Of Mice and Men are white males, with two very important
exceptions: Curleys wife, who is central to the stores, and the marginalized, stable buck who is
referred to only as Crooks.236 His presence in the novel adds a considerable amount of thematic
power. Chapter 4 is entirely framed around him. Yet this character presents something of a challenge
for African American readers, especially for the younger generation. Not just a literary question, but
rather one of the most important cultural problems facing African American society. Black Americans
have always been acutely sensitive to the fictional portraits of themselves created by white Americans
in the early 20th century, even with those portraits as sympathetic as the one Steinbeck offers us. All
the black Americans, and all people belonging to a racial or ethnic minority in a predominately white
setting, must learn at a very early age to read all manner of phenomenon from the nuanced and
polyvalent standpoint of a bi fold conscience. From this vantage point, one can see simultaneous night
and day Historically, black Americans, Asians, and Hispanics had to develop this epistemic skill set,
requiring a lot of work. It became incumbent upon them to know the white curriculum and its
assumptions as well if not better than white students beside them.237 The universal theme of
loneliness and homelessness appears differently in this novel, revealing its most radical dimensions

Essay on money laundering
Money laundering is the routing of illegal profits from bank to bank to disguise its existence. The
illegal profits are usually made through activities such as drug trafficking, prostitution rings, illegal
arms sales, and various other things. Unfortunately money laundering is a serious crime that is still
prevalent in the United States and other countries. The Russian mafia, the Triad or Chinese mafia, and
the Columbian drug cartel are just a few of the groups that partake in money laundering. No one
knows exactly how much money is laundered yearly but it is estimated to be about $100 billion in the
United States. The United States is not the only country affected by these numbers. The estimated

Most of the money laundered today is done by some sort of organized crime, whether it is a drug
cartel, illegal arms sale, smuggling, prostitution rings, the Mafia, or corporations. Organized crime has
existed in the United States for many years. Some of the organized crime groups known for money
laundering are: the Russian Mafia, the Triad, other wise known as the Chinese Mafia and the Yakuza.
All of these groups are known for a variety of illegal activities that involve receiving substantially
high profits. Some of these activities may include drug trafficking, illegal arms sale, and various other
things. Recently law enforcement has discovered that corporations have been helpers in laundering
money. This discovery leads back to the Black Market Peso Exchange. These corporations do not have
a direct involvement with the laundering, but are a helping hand at times. Many times corporations are
the supplier of goods for the broker. The perks that go along with being the supplier entail getting an
exchange rate better than the market. An example of this is if a corporation has pesos that they need to
exchange back into dollars, and the exchange rate is 1,000 pesos for 1 U.S. dollar, the broker may
discount the rate to 880 pesos for 1 U. S. dollar.
The initial stage occurs when a criminal, or a group of criminals, involved in an illegal activity make a
substantial sum of money. The money is then put into the

U.s. War On Terrorism Essay
The United States vision of and for the world changed dramatically, and perhaps permanently, on
September 11, 2001. The aftermath frightened and impacted the nation s reputation, and in order to
measure the nature and extent of our policies, it is important to understand our efforts after this
national attack on US soil. Many interesting documents released earlier that year provides a detailed
perspective of America s economic policies and actions towards the War on Terror. The U.S. came out
with a massive debt that has impacted the nation in several ways, but this leads to a basic question
with a complex answer: How did the U.S. War on Terrorism impact the American Debt Crisis? After
researching further into the 9/11 attacks, clearly most of the money put into the war was wasted or
misspent. Even though it was crucial going after the terrorists, especially since they had taken many
lives and were capable to repeating their attack caused fear throughout the nation. It is important to
signal out that the U.S. was attacked from a terrorist organization that had their focus on the U.S. for a
long time. The impact that this served after 9/11 plays a clear role in defining the results of how these
economic policies were taken into action. After looking over this tragic event in the U.S. history, there
should have been a very high consideration towards how the money was going to be used in an effort
to defeat terrorism before this event occurred. The top priority for the U.S. has

Leisure And Leisure Activities
This study investigated if there was a connection between gender, leisure activity, and morality. The
researchers interviewed over a thousand men and women and gathered what leisure activities they did.
The leisure activities reported were categorized into one of the twelve categories. Some of those
categories are the following: reading books, cultural activities, fishing, restaurant visits, and choir
singing. Since the researchers were interested in how those activities affected mortality and their
connection with gender, certain measures of functional status (disease etc.) were factored so it did not
affect the rate of mortality. The results found that the more activities women participated in, the lower
their mortality. A correlation between women and lower mortality was also tied to engagement in
organizational activities and study circles (Agahi et al., 855). Men, however, had lower mortality rates
associated with doing hobby activities and gardening (Agahi et al., 1). Men tended to benefit from
solitary activities, but women did not (Agahi et al., 857). Women benefited from social participation
so every activity done lowered their mortality a little. Overall women benefit from leisure activities
more than men, because men has a stronger correlation between mortality and health indicators (Agahi
et al.,866). We can use the information found to better plan for programs. This study allows us to be
aware of the type of programs the older adults could be benefit

Internal And External SWOT Analysis Of AT A Company
External SWOT/EFE. The SWOT analysis is a tool for evaluating a company s internal and external
environments in which they operates. The AT T external environment analysis using the SWOT model
reviews specific opportunities and threats that are external and beyond the control of the
telecommunication giant.
Opportunities. Industry Consolidation. The avenue for further business consolidation has acted as a
major opportunity for AT T to grow and diversify revenue. Evidently, AT T has made numerous
industry consolidation efforts including the DIRECTV acquisition and the vertical integration through
the set Time Warner acquisition (Nicholas, 2017). Such consolidation efforts have the potential for
reducing the churn rate and offering unique value propositions, such as bundled offerings, and
motivating cost efficiencies in content right negotiations and revenue synergies.
Wireless growth. The increasing consumer switch to wireless only is another opportunity for AT T to
grow its customer base. Recently, AT T has witnessed signals of a growing consumer postpaid base in
the wireless segment as it saw an increase in its post paid consumer base by 102,000 and its prepaid
base by 324,000 customers (Nicholas, 2017). Importantly, the customers continue to switch to the
wireless segment which creates more potential traffic for AT T to capture.
Global expansion. AT T has the opportunity to tap into less saturated markets across the globe.

my case I had found a consistent and hugely developed emotion had been anger, from first expressing
and understanding the emotion, I learned much about it through adolescents and its many combining
purposes. Through the limbic system we are more likely to remember things that are emotional, the
hippocampus function being verbal memory and the amygdala being the emotional memories center,
and with the help of intersubjectivity to learn and understand emotions we can begin to understand
how anger was a major emotion to have developed memories and hold more pronounced and detailed

Obesity Is A Disease Characterized By Excessive Body Fat
Obesity is a disease characterized by excessive body fat. People who are medically obese usually are
affected by behavior, genetic and environmental factors that are difficult to control with dieting.
Obesity increases the likelihood of certain diseases especially cardiovascular disorders and diabetes.
Obesity has become a pandemic nowadays. In the Indian scenario, even with the growing awareness
about health and fitness, more than 3 percent (3 crores) of the Indian population is obese.
Our study aims to determine the association of BMIwith cardiac output, forearm and calf blood flow
in healthy young male adults. Our results are consistent with our hypothesis.
Cardiac output was found to be significantly more in obese subjects compared to overweight and
normal BMI group. Similar results were found in other studies too. Obese individuals have expanded
central blood volume. In addition, stroke volume and cardiac output are both increased. These changes
in blood volume and cardiac output are most likely due to the increased metabolic demand that result
from increases in both lean and fat mass. The large fat depots in significant obesity produce a low
resistance vascular circuit that may further increase cardiac output. There may also be changes in renal
absorption of salt and water. The combination of these factors is proposed to produce a form of
volume overload which can give rise to high output failure later. [24][25]
Another study revealed that obese patients demonstrated

The Extent to Which Official Crime Statistics Provides a Reliable Estimate of the Amount of Crime
Committed in England and Wales
The Criminal Justice System is an area of the English Legal System that strikes a balance between
punishing the guilty and protecting the innocent. This balance has been the subject of much debate in
the last 20 years because there has been a large number of miscarriages of justice, where innocent
citizens/ people are sent to prison. This then suggested that the system had tipped this balance too far
and was greatly engaged in proving guilt. Examples of high profile cases that show some of these

Official statistics on crime are published annually in the UK, and provide two main kind of

The four girls including summer new in order to keep Colin happy they all had to call each other the
names Colin gave them, such as Violet, Poppy, Rose, and Summer as Lily, that was how they knew
they were going to be able to take care of themselves, because if they called each other those names,
he would bring them down food. For example, on page 229, Summer explains, I woke up to Violet
whimpering and crying in pain from when Colin had hit her. In about a half an hour I will change her
bandages and give her half of a pain pill. In other words, Summer is showing that she is caretaking
because she was taking care of Violet by changing her bandages and giving her medicine when she
needed it. Another example of the caretaking is on page 184, Summer say s I was putting out a damp
cloth on Poppy s cut from when clover stabbed her in the stomach. In other words, Summer had to
take care of Poppy when she was stabbed by Colin. The last example, on page 270, Summer added,
We have to clean up the blood from this girl that Colin killed in the basement, so we will not get sick
from the body. In other words, Summer was explaining how she had to clean up after Colin killed
someone so they wouldn t get sick from the body laying

Purpose And Symbolism Of The Leather Belt
The object that I chose to discuss is the Leather Belt. This object came from one of the most well
known Native American tribes in the United States, the Navajo. The Navajo tribe was, and currently
is, located within the four states of Arizona, Utah, New Mexico and Colorado also known as the Four
Corners of the southwestern United States. Many people in the region still speak the Navajo language,
as well as English. The Leather Belt was originally made of leather and strapped with eight silver
conchas, the Spanish word for shells. Some believe that the Native Americans stole this idea from the
Mexicans. Within each shell, there is a silver coin design that has been stamped onto the concha. In
order to attach the shells to the belt, each ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When the Mission was initially constructed, many people would depend on the Mission for food and
supplies. They would starve since they were always reliant on additional Missions and New Spain to
send them food. Not only were the living conditions hard at the Mission, but the rules were demanding
as well. The way of life at Mission Santa Barbara comprised of waking up at sunrise each morning for
great prayer then going to work on the Mission. Work was not equal for everyone. Men, women and
children were busy with their own jobs and those kept everyone busy throughout the day. Men would
mostly go through hard labor in the fields and take care of the crops that were being gathered, or
monitor the cattle. On the other hand, women and children classically remained inside the Mission and
finished routine chores. Everyone who lived in the Mission understood that they were likely to follow
the Father s schedule and lifestyle. Not everybody could withstand such a strict lifestyle based on
prayer and work; therefore, many individuals, particularly the Native Americans who were not
accustomed to this lifestyle, would try to escape from Mission

Crime And Punishment By Fyrodor Doveskey
The Theorized Extraordinary to the Ordinary Romantic
The human race remembers people in history who fought for something they believed in. For
example, both Neapolitan Bonaparte and George Washington killed other people in battle, because
they had something that they believed worthy to fight for regardless of the established and universal
law against killing. In Raskolnikov`s words from Crime and Punishment, they were extraordinary
men. These men, according to Raskolnikov, had the right to commit any crime, because they were
leading ordinary people into a new and improved society, without any moral repercussions. In Fyrodor
Doveskey`s, Crime and Punishment, his character Raskolnikov`s argument of the extraordinary man
versus the ordinary man, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, it becomes clear throughout the novel that he does feel guilty. For example, when
Raskolnikov helps Semyon Zakharovich Marmeladov return to his family after he is ran over,
Raskolnikov walks away feeling like he has somewhat atoned for his sins. Also, proving that
Raskolnikov feels guilty for what he did is that, at the end of the novel, Raskolnikov confesses in the
street, even though there was someone charged with the crime already. If, according to Raskolnikov,
an extraordinary man, which he believes himself to be, should feel no guilt, then why does
Raskolnikov feel the need to atone for his sins by helping Semyon Zakharovick Marmeladov`s family
and then eventually

Putin In 1984
In the novel, 1984 by George Orwell the corrupt fictional government of Oceania closely resembles
the real life government of Russia, whose unscrupulous actions have been condemned for over 120
years.
Much like Big Brother from the novel 1984, Russian President Vladimir Putin controls the news that
his citizens are allowed to view. Every piece of information released in Russia is carefully selected
and monitored by the government, dubbed the Kremlin (Shuster, and McDonald gibson). For the last
10 years that Putin has been in power, the Russian government has faced many ups and downs. The
main news source in Russia, RT, is a state sponsored news source that is popular on an international
level. RT was founded by Putin himself, when founded ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Current President, Vladimir Putin once again ran a campaign that is unopposed. Before the
Presidential election actually took place, Russian government officials scrambled to implement a so
called ...crackdown on allegedly corrupt officials. (Bennetts). Immediately the country began to arrest
these supposedly corrupt officials on countless charges associated with corruption within the
government. The Russian state news called this act a purge of corrupt officials (Bennetts). This
draining of the swamp, if you will, came after the country s only independent pollster reported that
67% of citizens held Putin responsible for the large amounts of fraud and embezzlement in their
country (Bennetts). This rampant corruption is leaving the citizens of Russia in unrest. Many have
took to protesting (Bennetts). This isn t the first time that governmental corruption has lead to protest
in the country, in 2011 and 2012, people took to the streets to protest against Putin s party in Moscow

Freedom Of The Press In The First Amendment
It is often easy to forget why we, as Americans, have the freedoms that we do. The liberties that other
countries do not have are liberties that we take for granted. Being able to write and publish anything
was very important to the framers of the constitution. So important in fact, that is was included in the
first amendment. The framers included freedom of the press in the first amendment because it allowed
the public to be educated on everything that occurs with their government and for citizens to be
influenced by others ideas to form their own opinions. The colonizers had left a government that
hindered their freedoms. They fought the revolutionary war to break free from the British authority
and have the power to make their own

Police Officers As Beacon For Justice
In the past the media portrayed police officers as beacon for justice. Based on personal experiences,
until about the 1990 s every little boy growing up wanted to be the good guy. However in today s new
popular culture, young boys are no longer arguing over who gets to be the good guy. The villain is
now seen as a viable option. The difference in views comes from the mass media; police officers are
now being represented in a more negative characteristic. Some police portrayals show the police as
being just as corrupted or evil as the criminals they are supposed to be apprehending. This illustrate
the mass media have an influence that goes far beyond their role in the entertainment industry. Police
have been portrayed negatively in the media for quite some time and it seems to be getting worse.
Music, social media, and even the news have a negative impact on the way police are being viewed. In
fact, now anyone with a smart phone or other type of digital recording can capture police officers at
their worse adding to the tainted image of our law enforcement agents. For instance, a Fort Worth
police officer was videoed taped using pepper spray on a group of motorcyclists as they rode past him
(Heinz Gordon, n.d.). In mere moments this video was upload to YouTube and became a viral video
over the next few days with more than 2,800,000 views in a two month span (East Texas Heat
Productions, n.d.). Furthermore, the local news exacerbates the issues by continually running

In this scholarly paper, I will reflect on meditation treatment modality provided by University of
Minnesota Center for Spirituality and Healing. (2014) and its benefits and opportunities for the older
population and persons with chronic diseases (Chan Larson, 2015). Moreover, I will analyze it in
terms of Barrett s Theory of Power (Barrett, 2010) and CAREE Process (O Brien Lewis, 2016). In
addition, throughout the paper, I will describe my thoughts and feelings regarding meditation and
meditative practices for caring healing holistic nursing.

The beneficial effect of meditation for people with chronic conditions is also proven by Chan Larson
(2015), however, their point of view is that further research on the topic is necessary due to the
inconsistency of the results. After examining the multiple research studies, the authors argue that
meditation may result in significant improvements in anxiety, depression, and chronic disease
symptoms . Furthermore, they state that people with chronic diseases relate more positively with their
body, which is resulting in increased activity levels and improved quality of life (Chan Larson, 2015).
In some studies, the accent was made on improvement that is achieved in perception or acceptance of
a specific symptom when the symptom itself was not changed. Meditation also relieved the
manifestations of multiple sclerosis, epilepsy and peripheral neuropathy (Chan Larson, 2015). In
addition, this complementary treatment modality has the beneficial effects on attention span, sleep
quality and latency, and enhanced well being (Morone, Lynch, Greco, Tindle, Weiner, 2008).
What critique and/or reflection would you make of the module and the author s points considering
your own experience and knowing and the learning you gained from the module on this topic? After
exploring the module and the article, I believe that meditation is especially beneficial for the older
persons due to its

Breakin Movie Analysis
After watching the movie, Breakin , I find that the film was inspirational, influential and motivational.
Looking at how the young street dancers, Turbo and Ozone as well as Kelly, initially a Jazz dancer to
a street dancer, chasing after their dreams, with perseverance and determination. Besides giving me an
idea on what hip hop was about, it also shows the true feelings of the break dancers when they are
being challenged. They used dance to express their anger towards each other and battle among
themselves. They showcase different moves of break dance in the battle, to fight back against their
opponents.
This movie also gives me an idea on hip hop in the 80s. I can clearly see the differences in Hip hop
culture when it was being introduced in the 80s and hip hop that is on going right now in the 20s. One
of the differences was the fashion. In the 80s, tight fitting top, baggy trousers and belt were seen on
the street dancers. Dancers were also accessorized from head to toe with headbands, earrings and
necklaces. In a nutshell, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is true that rappers of today s generation looked different than they were in the past. However,
fashion items such as bucket hats, ripped denim and funky hairstyles still remain the same as they
were. The only differences was the combination of their outfits in terms of colours and matching of
different apparels. Also, as the moves of hip hop continues to evolve the competitive nature of hip hop
still remains as well as the circular nature of audience surrounding the dancers while they are battling
against their rivals. The audiences kept their cheering as loud as possible so as to cheer the team that
they are supporting. I personally feel that cheering is important as it definitely gives the dancers more
energy and motivation to showcase what they have in them, boosting their confidence

Song of Roland Essay
Roland is not depicted as a hero in every way. In what particular way does his heroism cause him to
fail himself and others, and what does that tell us about the culture out of which the poem emerges?
The Song of Roland is a heroic epic that depicts the tragic defeat of Roland, the courageous leader of
Charlemagne s army. Within the epic Roland is not depicted as a hero in every way. I believe that
Roland s pride eventually becomes the root cause of his failure to himself and to others. It is this pride
that Roland carries that sheds light upon the culture out of which the poem emerges. In this culture
during the late 700 s, pride in one s religion is expected and upheld to great extents such as sacrifice.
The Song of Roland was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I believe that Roland knew that his stepfather would not go to King Marsilion and used that to his
advantage to prove himself to Charlemagne. Proving his pride for himself.
Additional proof of Roland s pride that causes him to fail himself and the other Crusaders is his hard
headedness to call for help when being attacked by Saracens. In the Song of Roland, Roland s biggest
enemy is his stepfather Ganelon. Out of spite, Ganelon organizes forces led by the Saracens to detour
Roland and separate him from the Christian forces. Being the proud person he is, Roland refuses to
sound the battle horn to call for help. His pride leads to a massacre of Charlemagne s army.
Throughout The Song of Roland pride seems to be a major theme. Roland is not the only one with
extreme pride for what he believes in. Without pride for religion, I believe, that there would not be a
crusade, let alone the story of Roland.
With this poem taking place in the latter part of the 700 s, religion and pride in one s religion was
taken very

Childhood Influences Impact the Writing of F. Scott Fitzgerald
On Wednesday February 12 of 1890 F. Scott Fitzgerald s parents were married in Washington D.C. Six
years later on September 24, 1896 Francis Scott Key Fitzgerald was born at his home 481 Laurel Ave.
in St. Paul, Minnesota. His two infant older sisters had died from a violent influenza so that by the
time Fitzgerald came along Mollie Fitzgerald had become the proverbial nightmare that known as an
overprotective mother. Fitzgerald s mother was no traditional mother though, for she was known for
her eccentricities. These eccentricities disturbed young Scott s life, Fitzgerald later described his
mother as half insane with pathological nervous worry (Bruccoli 15), ... Show more content on

Because of the proximity of the his mother s extended family Scott had an extra three mothers who
lavished him with affection and estrogen growing up, but had no real male role model. Regardless,
after the final failure in New York, the family returned to St. Paul in July of 1908. Scott and Annabel
lived with their grandmother while Edward and Mollie stayed with a friend until 1909 when the
family finally reunited at 514 Holly Ave. (Bruccoli 23), the street where the family would live for the
next five years. These five years are of note mostly because they made an impression on Scott and
would later become a theme and setting for some of his short stories.
During this time Scott s education began. His mother, Mollie wished for him to associate with the
right crowd and so he was enrolled in a dancing class for boys and girls at Ramaley Hall on Grand
Avenue. It was in this dancing class that he met Marie Hersey. Marie was a good childhood friend who
is even said to have helped Zelda re wardrobe at Scott s request (he didn t like her southern style and
found it unfitting to New York society) after their marriage and move to New York. Mollie also found
hope in Scott when compared to the failures of her husband, but her hopes discouraged Scott s writing
to the point of destroying some of his earliest writings, Her opposition to Scott s literary ambitions

Personal Narrative-Changing Experience With Soccer
I ve been playing soccer a long time, longer than i remember. My dad says i ve played since I was
four. Despite that, as a freshman in highschool I still wasn t very good. id simply drifted through ten
years worth of summer and fall leagues, only picking up enough skill to become the captain of my
school s C team.
The team wasn t hopeless, for a c team. most of our players had played soccer before, usually in the
same recreational leagues I grew up in. we were about average better than some, worse than some but
we managed to stay on track for a winning season, more than the JV and Varsity teams could say.
Before the last game of the season our record was seven wins, and seven losses. A win would push us
above .500.
The game was almost over, and looked like it would end in a tie, when the referee called a penalty
kick on the other team. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Scoring a penalty kick looks like the easiest thing to do in sports. Just put the small ball through the
big goal, and you score. But when you are standing in front of the goal, just you and the goalie, it gets
a lot harder. The game becomes a sort of psychological warfare between kicker and goalie, each one
trying to get into the other s head. Anyways, that day coach decided it was my turn to take the kick. I
had a chance to be the hero or the goat, as Charlie Brown says. I wanted to be the hero so I ran up to
the ball and kicked it as hard as I could. I would have scored a perfect field goal if i had been playing
the right kind of football. Instead the game wound down and ended in a

The Last Of The Mohicans Essay
In The Last of the Mohicans by James Fenimore Cooper, historical romance is apparent through
settings, characters and plots. Cooper is considered by many critics to be the father of the American
historical romance. Fred Lewis Patee said, Not only was Cooper the pioneer (of the historical
romance) in America, and thus worthy of the highest praise, but in many respects his romances have
never been surpassed. ; (212) Cooper celebrated the creative spirit of the individual and had a deep
appreciation for nature. He was a romantic who enjoyed the mysteriousness and exoticness of the
frontier. He favored the use of emotions over reason. Through his romantic writings, Cooper is able to

He brings the reader into his unblemished world, where everything is pure. The setting in The Last of
the Mohicans shows Cooper s deepened appreciation of nature.
Romanticism is also seen in the characters in the novel. The characters are manifestly impossible.
(Pattee 212) Hawkeye is one of these impossible characters. He is an ideal character who is pure and
untainted by the corruption of society. Hawkeye, like Cooper, is a romantic in that he has a deep
respect for nature. Cooper uses Hawkeye to celebrate the creative spirit of the individual. Hawkeye,
Chingachgook and Uncas are characters all folklores are about. They are the heroes that complete
impossible task to help others. Cooper also portrays, in his novel, the stiff upper class society and their
true desire to escape to the frontier. (Magill 448) Cora and Alice represent the stiff, elegant society.
The reader soon sees that under their refined life, they have a wanting to be freed ; from their upper
class society. They want to escape this boring life and be allowed to live. They see the frontier as this
pure, beautiful place where they can be freed of the control of their society. (448) Cooper uses
characters to portray his romanticism.
Romanticism can also be seen in The Last of the Mohicans in the plot. Cooper s plots favor emotions
over reasons. Cooper opens the novel with a historical atmosphere. However, this does not last for

  • 5. Mexican Drugs Mexico: Drugs or Democracy Introduction Illicit drug trade between Mexico and the United States, estimated between $17 billion and $38 billion a year in 2009 by the Drug Intelligence Center, has a long and storied past. Cartels operated with relative impunity from government prosecution during the seventy year reign of the Institutional Revolutionary Party, (PRI). The movement from an authoritarian government system of the PRI to the liberal democracy initiated by the election victory of the National Action Party, (PAN), candidate, Vicente Fox, in 2000, disrupted the status quo. Election gains by PAN Representatives disrupted long standing agreements between the cartels and government officials which led to the increased violence that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The DFS was supposed to fight drugs but one of the founders, Senator Colonel Carlos Serrano, was tied to the drug cartels. His appointment provided a direct link between the ruling political party and the drug cartels ensuring a flow of profits to government officials in exchange for protection and also mitigated the need for drug traffickers to participate in politics. This collaborative arrangement produced several decades of minimal drug related violence which was directed at opposing groups and did not affect the general population. Social changes in the United States during the 1960s and 1970 accompanied increased consumption of marijuana and later cocaine use became more widespread in the 19080s. The proliferation of drug use in American society prompted a change in the political view on drugs and the United States government declared war on drugs. The U.S. government focused on the drug producing and trafficking nations and pressured those nations into joining the war . Mexico was pressured into heightening its efforts to combat drugs which included military operations to destroy drug trade and growing fields. These efforts focused on migrant workers forced into labor by the drug lords, barely disrupting the cartel s operations. The link between the DFS and the Mexican political structure came to an end with the assassination of U.S. DEA agent, Enrique Camarena, in 1985 and the subsequent pressure on the Mexican government. ... It can affect a small group or thousands of people in a region. In some instances even just two independent cases can lead to an outbreak, eventually leading to an epidemic, or pandemic which refers to a global outbreak. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This disease can lead to severe pneumonia, diarrhea, encephalitis and in a worst case scenario could even cause death. Facts and figures available to study the epidemiological data for the outbreak of measles include gathering suspected and confirmed cases of this disease from the World Health Organization. This is done by gathering serum samples from all suspected cases to determine if a measles specific immunoglobulin antibody is detected. This particular disease lives in the nose and throat of the infected individual and is considered contagious for a period of four days before the rash appears and for a further four days after the sighting of the rash. The route of transmission of the disease is via infected droplets that spray into the air when people cough, sneeze or talk. These droplets can then be inhaled by other people who are in close proximity to the person who is infected. Unfortunately, these droplets can remain active and contagious for several hours on a surface, such that when you touch it with your fingers and then touch your nose or mouth you can become infected. While most cases are easily diagnosed by simply looking at the patient, in the majority of cases it is preferable to have blood tests to confirm 100%. Typically the patient will have a rash that looks like small, bright Koplik s spots on the inside ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

PSA Levels PSA has a half life of 2.2 days and elevated levels vary in recovery depending on the cause of the elevation PSA elevation may precede clinical cancer by 5 10 years. Specificity PSA is organ specific, not cancer specific. • 10. The Yellow Birds By Kevin Powers Athletes train for countless hours in hopes to help their teams win games, but sometimes they can t always come out on top. Students put in long hours studying for tests attempting to earn a good grade. There are times where that effort is rewarded with a poor grade. Gifts are bought with the idea that whoever is receiving the present is going to love it, but the buyer realizes that they messed up because the gift is absolutely hated. These are examples of instances where people were trying to do good things but ultimately failed. In the novel, The Yellow Birds by Kevin Powers you see characters that have the intent to do good, but come up short and fail. Everybody has instances throughout their lives where they will try extremely hard, but fail in the end. A lot of these instances may even be just the smallest things, but when they happen it is never a good feeling. You will get feelings of disappointment, and anger, but the problems that occur in Kevin Power s book are much more than that. The book The Yellow Birds is a fictional story, but the thing that makes it so good is that the author was in the war himself. Even though this great story is made up, Kevin Powers definitely had an advantage on explaining how powerful the war really was on people. What was written in the book could be very similar to things he had experienced himself while he served our country. The woman had lived with breast cancer for more than 20 years. By all accounts her final hours were private and peaceful, as she became one of the first people in American history to end her life lawfully with the aid of a physician (Oregonian A1). She was able to end her life peacefully due to controversial legislation passed in her state. The Death with Dignity Act was passed by the state of Oregon in 1994. It neither exceeds the Attorney General s statutory authority under the Controlled Substances Act (The Federal Register 12). Therefore, this action would be detrimental to all those who do not choose to wait for death. In November of 2004 Ashcroft appealed to the Supreme Court and they will hear the case later this year. It is likely the Supreme Court will interpret the regulations in accordance with the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals but if it fails to do so Oregon will be forced to repeal the statute. This law has brought peace to 171 terminally ill and suffering individuals in a very painless and humane manner. Only 3 of the 43 patients experienced complications in 2003. The only complications reported in these 3 cases were vomiting. One half of all patients became unconscious within four minutes of ingesting the lethal medication and all died within 20 minutes. The range of time from ingestion to death was five minutes to 48 hours (Sixth Annual Report T3.9). Physician assisted suicide accomplishes much more than ending suffering before death. The right is of the individual and should be respected by our government. It is a fundamental freedom that we all should have. • 12. Of Mice And Men Are White For the most part, the characters in Of Mice and Men are white males, with two very important exceptions: Curleys wife, who is central to the stores, and the marginalized, stable buck who is referred to only as Crooks.236 His presence in the novel adds a considerable amount of thematic power. Chapter 4 is entirely framed around him. Yet this character presents something of a challenge for African American readers, especially for the younger generation. Not just a literary question, but rather one of the most important cultural problems facing African American society. Black Americans have always been acutely sensitive to the fictional portraits of themselves created by white Americans in the early 20th century, even with those portraits as sympathetic as the one Steinbeck offers us. All the black Americans, and all people belonging to a racial or ethnic minority in a predominately white setting, must learn at a very early age to read all manner of phenomenon from the nuanced and polyvalent standpoint of a bi fold conscience. From this vantage point, one can see simultaneous night and day Historically, black Americans, Asians, and Hispanics had to develop this epistemic skill set, requiring a lot of work. It became incumbent upon them to know the white curriculum and its assumptions as well if not better than white students beside them.237 The universal theme of loneliness and homelessness appears differently in this novel, revealing its most radical dimensions ... The illegal profits are usually made through activities such as drug trafficking, prostitution rings, illegal arms sales, and various other things. The Russian mafia, the Triad or Chinese mafia, and the Columbian drug cartel are just a few of the groups that partake in money laundering. Most of the money laundered today is done by some sort of organized crime, whether it is a drug cartel, illegal arms sale, smuggling, prostitution rings, the Mafia, or corporations. Organized crime has existed in the United States for many years. Some of the organized crime groups known for money laundering are: the Russian Mafia, the Triad, other wise known as the Chinese Mafia and the Yakuza. All of these groups are known for a variety of illegal activities that involve receiving substantially high profits. Some of these activities may include drug trafficking, illegal arms sale, and various other things. Recently law enforcement has discovered that corporations have been helpers in laundering money. This discovery leads back to the Black Market Peso Exchange. These corporations do not have a direct involvement with the laundering, but are a helping hand at times. Many times corporations are the supplier of goods for the broker. The perks that go along with being the supplier entail getting an exchange rate better than the market. An example of this is if a corporation has pesos that they need to exchange back into dollars, and the exchange rate is 1,000 pesos for 1 U.S. dollar, the broker may discount the rate to 880 pesos for 1 U. S. dollar. The initial stage occurs when a criminal, or a group of criminals, involved in an illegal activity make a substantial sum of money. The money is then put into the ... • 14. U.s. War On Terrorism Essay The United States vision of and for the world changed dramatically, and perhaps permanently, on September 11, 2001. The aftermath frightened and impacted the nation s reputation, and in order to measure the nature and extent of our policies, it is important to understand our efforts after this national attack on US soil. Many interesting documents released earlier that year provides a detailed perspective of America s economic policies and actions towards the War on Terror. The U.S. came out with a massive debt that has impacted the nation in several ways, but this leads to a basic question with a complex answer: How did the U.S. War on Terrorism impact the American Debt Crisis? After researching further into the 9/11 attacks, clearly most of the money put into the war was wasted or misspent. Even though it was crucial going after the terrorists, especially since they had taken many lives and were capable to repeating their attack caused fear throughout the nation. It is important to signal out that the U.S. was attacked from a terrorist organization that had their focus on the U.S. for a long time. The impact that this served after 9/11 plays a clear role in defining the results of how these economic policies were taken into action. • 15. Leisure And Leisure Activities This study investigated if there was a connection between gender, leisure activity, and morality. The researchers interviewed over a thousand men and women and gathered what leisure activities they did. The leisure activities reported were categorized into one of the twelve categories. Some of those categories are the following: reading books, cultural activities, fishing, restaurant visits, and choir singing. Since the researchers were interested in how those activities affected mortality and their connection with gender, certain measures of functional status (disease etc.) were factored so it did not affect the rate of mortality. The results found that the more activities women participated in, the lower their mortality. A correlation between women and lower mortality was also tied to engagement in organizational activities and study circles (Agahi et al., 855). Men, however, had lower mortality rates associated with doing hobby activities and gardening (Agahi et al., 1). Men tended to benefit from solitary activities, but women did not (Agahi et al., 857). Women benefited from social participation so every activity done lowered their mortality a little. Overall women benefit from leisure activities more than men, because men has a stronger correlation between mortality and health indicators (Agahi et al.,866). People who are medically obese usually are affected by behavior, genetic and environmental factors that are difficult to control with dieting. Obesity increases the likelihood of certain diseases especially cardiovascular disorders and diabetes. Obesity has become a pandemic nowadays. In the Indian scenario, even with the growing awareness about health and fitness, more than 3 percent (3 crores) of the Indian population is obese. Our study aims to determine the association of BMIwith cardiac output, forearm and calf blood flow in healthy young male adults. Our results are consistent with our hypothesis. Cardiac output was found to be significantly more in obese subjects compared to overweight and normal BMI group. Similar results were found in other studies too. Obese individuals have expanded central blood volume. In addition, stroke volume and cardiac output are both increased. These changes in blood volume and cardiac output are most likely due to the increased metabolic demand that result from increases in both lean and fat mass. The large fat depots in significant obesity produce a low resistance vascular circuit that may further increase cardiac output. There may also be changes in renal absorption of salt and water. The combination of these factors is proposed to produce a form of volume overload which can give rise to high output failure later.
