hence, resulting in zero marks for this assessment task.
Examination
There is a hurdle requirement in this unit. The learning outcomes in this unit require students to
demonstrate in the final examination comprehensive understanding of the topics covered in the unit.
This is demonstrated by the requirement that the student must attain a mark of at least 45% in the final
examination.
A student s final mark is normally the sum of the marks obtained in all of the assessment tasks in the
unit. However, when a student fails the unit solely because of failure to satisfy the hurdle requirement,
a mark of 48 will be returned for the unit.

The Color Legacy in Major Leage Baseball
Before 1947, Major League Baseball had never had a black player, although there were Negro
Leagues. Jackie Robinson broke that. It takes courage and dedication to chase after something you
love. Jackie had that for the game of baseball. The Civil Rights Movement was occurring during the
time Jackie enter the Major Leagues, so the times were tough for him. Jackie did more than just play
baseball; he introduced a whole new way to play the game, with blacks and whites. He did this by
breaking the color barrier and introducing blacks into the Major Leagues, facing discrimination and
showing his true passion for the game, and showing that he was looking to help all African Americans
in the civil rights movement. Breaking the color barrier ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He liked Robinson s family life off the field and how he dealt with adversity. Rickey s main fear was
the harsh discrimination Jackie would get, so Branch held a historic meeting with Jackie, and said the
harshest things to him to see if Jackie could withstand it, and on October 23, 1945, Robinson signed
his first contract. Rickey thought Jackie would be more comfortable playing in Canada for the
Dodgers minor league team, the Montreal Royals. Turns out, Rickey was right. Jackie gained tons of
fans in Canada, and at the end of the season, Jackie led the minor leagues in batting and runs scored.
The Royals also won the minor league pennant that year. In 1947, Jackie Robinson was a Major
League Baseball player. The Dodgers had called him up on assignment and Jackie immediately started
working. In spring training of his first season, his Brooklyn teammates made a petition to prevent him
from playing, but the manager of the team, Leo Durocher, put an end to the petition. On the field,
Robinson was an outstanding player. In his first year, he was named the league s most outstanding
rookie. He led the national league in steals with 29. At the end of the season, America made him the
second most popular celebrity in the nation. Robinson was named the National league Rookie of the
Year, and was honored with a Jackie Robinson Day (York). Jackie returned to Georgia in 1949 to play
a three game series against the Atlanta Crackers. Many KKK groups

Jazz Funk Research Paper
FUNK IT UP WITH JAZZY MOVES
Drag step, pivot, stag leap, and isolations. Yes, I am talking about Jazz! Jazz funk is a variety of jazz
which has more of funk added to it. It is peppy, energetic, and sudden. Matching jazz in its roots and
being greatly influenced by hip hop as well, Jazz funk can actually be called the offspring of these two
great dance forms and is gaining immense popularity real fast. The tempo and rhythm are fast and
zealous.
The difference in the moves between Jazz and Hip Hop The moves in Jazz include pirouettes,
isolations, releves, flexibility syncopation (off beat), jazz hands and rolled shoulders. Excluding the
music used in Hip Hop these days like Dubstep, pop and R B sounds, the basic movements match that

Movements go ebb and flow and are suddenly transitional. It is great for improving one s stamina and
cardiac health. It keeps the mind fresh and peaceful. Also, it improves flexibility with daily practice.
Where to learn Innumerable dance schools are available to sign up for jazz funk classes. See which
suits, fits your timings, and makes you feel comfortable. These days children start early with learning
various forms of art. Try enrolling in one where you can shed all your inhibitions and just dance.
Trust your choreographer and practise Choreographer knows best. Learn a few jazz funk moves.
Combine them together and form an eight count combination, such as the bounce step, the tap rock,
and the kick pop drop move. Follow your choreographer and practice religiously. Despite how many
moves you learn, it is useless unless you practise regularly. With time, the dance form improves the
flexibility of limbs and joints and you eventually get better at it. If you are passionate about dance,
you need to get down and sweat it out. Use a mirror and practise before it. Watch your choreographer
and other good dancers dance, and pick up any valuable tips from

Compare And Contrastive And Deductive Reasoning
The inductive and deductive reasoning seems dissimilar to each other from all accounts. Inductive
reasoning involves a scientist using series of correlated observations to reach or infer a conclusion
while deductive reasoning involves predicting a specific result by following existing laws and general
concepts that support a conclusion (OpenStax College, Rice University, 2013). So, considering the
definition of inductive reasoning and the definition of deductive reasoning and their mode of
operations highlighted above, they are apparently different from each other. In comparing and
contrasting both approaches, inductive reasoning focuses on observation while deductive reasoning
considers the generally accepted facts to ascertain the authenticity of a specific case. With the obvious
difference in their modus operandi, inductive and deductive reasoning both use hypothesis, tests,
repetitions ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The two methods can, as a matter of fact, be complementary when used in experiments. In other
words, the top down logic of the deductive reasoning can be supported by the bottom up logic of the
inductive reasoning. In addition, it may be necessary to evaluate which approach is best for getting the
required findings. The observational approach used by inductive reasoning can be solidified by the
evidence gathered from the test results of a supported hypothesis. This, in my opinion, is what an
intelligent scientist should do when working on a specific experiment. In an attempt to find a solution
or answer tough questions regarding scientific or biological matters, it would be unwise or
unnecessary to apply rigidity in using any of the discussed methods as both are complementary to

Analysis Of Dale Carnegie s On Skills As A Business Owner
TO: Mr. Jes Methipara, Aspiring business owner
FROM: Ms. Samantha Nartadam, Student
DATE: December 14, 2015
RE: Techniques to Consider
Your desire to start your own business is admirable. Dale Carnegie s How to Win Friends and
Influence People would assist you in furthering your business. Please consider the following
techniques when cultivating your skills as a business owner.
What s in it for them?
Many times, people only care about how they will be benefitting in any situation. Because of this,
business owners always need to think about what their employees or consumers will be getting out of
any transaction. This is the most effective way to win them over. Business owners need to clearly
illustrate the benefits for those who have their company in consideration. According to Dale Carnegie,
he was once approached by the company that owns the grand ballroom that he lectures in. The
company said that they were going to be charging Carnegie at a higher price. Rather than speaking
from his own experience, Carnegie explained to the company how charging him more would actually
be detrimental to their company. By only speaking calmly about the company and not himself, he was
able to effectively convince the company not to overcharge him.
In my personal life, if I ever want to convince someone to do what I desire, I always lay out how it
would benefit them. When I want my friends to accompany me to places that they have no desire to go
to, I try to illustrate the

With drug resistance on the rise it is important to continue to search for new way to treat gram postive

that struggled with gang warfare, although it had more of an opposing effect than a helping effect.

Civil War And The 1960s
A History of Protest Music Revolutionary War to the 1960s Protest music in the United States dates
back to the 19th century. This protest music focused around subjects that were topical for the time
period. Among these topics were the Civil War. Another topic was slavery, and its abolition. A final
topic was women s suffrage. A famous group of protest singers was the Hutchinson Family Singers.
Their notoriety, which spanned the mid 19th century, began in 1839. Their songs about abolition were
what they were known for. They also sang about the Civil War, the temperance movement, women s
suffrage, and other social reform movements. They are considered by many to be the precursors to
famous 20th century protest singers songwriters. Negro spirituals is a subgenre of music that many see
as a form of protest music. The focus of the spirituals were slavery and oppression. Many well known
Negro spirituals draw influence from the troubles other oppressed groups in history faced. During the
20th century, there was protest music before the Vietnam War. The most common topic was the
struggle for fair wages and working hours for the working class. Also, the attempt to unionize the
American workforce. Another protest music topic was the Great War or World War I. There were
songs protesting war in general. There were also songs that protested America s involvement in what
was considered a European war. A third protest music topic was the hardships of the 1920s and 1930s,

How Can An Actor Be A Cultural Icon
Can an actor be a cultural icon? A cultural icon can be everyone and everything person, thing,
buuilding. Cultural icon is someone that idolized others. Some people are thinking that actress, singer
or poltics are a cultural icon, but some of them disagree. Angelina Jolie is a cultral icon because of
actress, humanitarian work, and role model. One of the reasons why Angelina Jolie is a cultural icon is
actress. Angelina is one of the best Hollywood actress. For example, Angelina Jolie won the Oscar are
best supporting actres for Girl, Interrupted (Rebecca Ford). This quote shows that she won the Oscar
price. It is the one of the most important prices for actress. To won is not easy, so she must be very

natural resources and conserving wildlife, donated $1 million to Doctors Without Borders, an

how Angelina with her husband fundation are donated money. Not every actor is helping others, but
she do. Even when they have enough money they do not give to others, they prefer to keep this moeny
for themselves. It is a good character trait. She is not miserly. If, she can help she is doing this. For
example, Jolie adopted a son from Cambodia and named him Madox. Three years later, she adopted a
daughter Zahara (biography.com Editors). She adopted two kids. Not everyone can love someones
kids or be enough brave to adopted. It is so courageous decision to undertake to make care about kids.

William Shakespeare s Hamlet
Mirror to Society
Within the play Hamlet, William Shakespeare wrote what he thought to be the purpose of theatre. He
defined theatre to be the actor s ability to hold up a mirror to nature and portray what is actually
happening within society. During the time of Shakespeare, the main aim in theatre was to create a
night of entertainment, where society could escape from the issues of the day. However, Shakespeare s
message of reflection would take hold in the 19th century as the primary purpose for theatre and evoke
a modernization within theatre that insisted it be a reflection of reality. During the 1890s, two
strategies developed in an effort to restore the Celtic heritage in Ireland, the Irish Literary Movement
and the Neo Gaelic revival. It is for this reason that an Irish Literary Renaissance began spreading
through Ireland. This renaissance was influenced by an increase in the national interest for Gaelic
legends and myths. The revival of the old Gaelic heritage served as inspiration to the growing political
nationalism. At the close of the 19th century, Nationalist movements were spreading throughout most
of Europe. In Ireland, the nationalist movement was calling for separation from British oppression.
Ireland had been under English rule for over 300 years and saw itself ready for home rule. Irish
politics began to pressure its artists into displaying a civilized and respectable national image.
However, the Irish people could not agree on an exact image.

Alexander III Of Macedon s Legacy
Alexander III of Macedon, also known as Alexander the Great, was the son of King Philip And After

most of the known world of his day. He was Great because he was kind and respectful of his

Summer Break Argumentative Essay
This question has been asked many times with school board officials let s look at the facts, Summer
break started because the children of poor farmers would miss school in order to help their families
harvest they would miss many days of school and wouldn t be able to learn as much as the children
whose families were wealthy. They eventually decided to shorten the calendar so that no one could
miss school. Here in the 21 st century no one needs to miss school, nowadays a small amount of
people have families that own farms but the children don t have to miss school to work on them!
Summer break is now a fun break, but do kids really need it? I believe they don t there are enough

calendar shortened anymore. So should we keep Summer? According to ... Show more content on

decision affect teachers, parents, and the students themselves.Making the school year longer would

Why We Shouldn T Have Homework
Why Students Shouldn t Have Homework I believe, as a student, that homework is just a tool that
teachers use to keep us busy. Being a student who has received homework for various years, I have
found that homework causes me a lot of stress (Ethos). Homework causes kids to get very stressed
out, it causes stress in their families, and studies show that it does not improve test scores. Harris
Cooper, a worker at Duke University (Ethos), found out that, doing more than 60 to 90 minute of
homework in middle school and more than 2 hours in high school is associated with much lower
scores (Logos). This just shows that homework is a useless item that students are forced to do. Firstly,
students have to wake up from seven until two o clock everyday, ... Show more content on

By not giving out homework, students will work harder in class and have better grades. Teachers have
to understand that if students are tired from late nights, they wouldn t be able to work efficiently
during the day. In addition, students would be much more excited to come to school because they
know they wouldn t have to worry about getting any homework. In 2010, a survey was taken and it
showed that about 70% of teen ages 11 to 17 get less than 8 hours of sleep per day due to the amount
of homework they have to do (Logos). According to Alfie Kohen, students feel forced to do their
homework, therefore they aren t learning as much as they should (Ethos). Students lose interest in the
topic and do not benefit from what they re learning. In China, a cry for change by a mother who lost
her thirteen year old daughter who committed suicide due to her inability to achieve in math, the
mother considers homework is a huge negative factor toward her deceased daughter s tragic ending
along with the pressure of society (Pathos). Such a story should leave us wondering, how many more
children need to suffer the silent epidemic of school stress. Statistics prove the leading cause for the
majority of physical and emotional complaints leading up to diagnosis of depression in middle and
high school due to the amount of

architects need to have many necessary and essential skills and abilities. Some think that to be a good

That s why they have to act as a bridge between a given project and how that project fits into the
broader context. Architects make presentations to clients, discuss design programs and problems and
alternative solutions, appear before public bodies and are frequently referring, explaining, teaching
and persuading (6 essential skills for an architect, 2005). One of the major benefits that an architect
has to bring to the enterprise is to integrate the solution for a particular project with the business
domain, enterprise concerns, industry standards, established patterns, and best practices. Next,
architects have to analyze the data that they have collected accurately and deeply to know every single
detail about their project. The analysis consists of knowing the key elements of the problem and the
solution to find the relationship between them and to notice how they can be combined together to
provide a higher value. As Daigneau said, Finally I reluctantly answered stating that I thought

Bison Offense
Last night in Dayton, at Welcome stadium the Belmont Bison hosted the Bulldogs from Woodward
high school, out of Cincinnati. Belmont has shown a very high octane running offense at times this
season, while the Bulldogs has been up and down not only only offense but defense as well.
Things got start with a bang, when Dawson Martin took off for a sixteen yard run, showing speed and
nice field vision. Martin would close out the drive on a 2 yard run to make this a,6 0 game. A two
point conversion run by,Elijah Malcolm made the score,8 0, with 9:05 left in the quarter.
The Bison offense was back at it again with 6:46 left on the clock. Malcolm would show some big

Martin converted the conversion run to make this a,32 6 game. The other play on the drive came on a
seventy four yard run by Dorrick Conner.
In watching this much of the game the one question that popped in my head was,how did Liberty
Union shut out this Belmont team/ I have seen Liberty Union earlier this season in their blowout win
over the Tigers, from Columbus East.
Woodward had to know this game was all but over at the 5:38 mark of the 2nd quarter, so they decided
to go for it on fourth down, needing fourteen yards for the first down, deep in their own territory. The
decision went from bad to worse when Reliford was called for intentional grounding, giving the ball to
Belmont at the Bulldogs nine yard line.
The Bison scored on their next play, when quarterback Justin Young ran in the end zone. Another two
point conversion run was successful, this time by Malcom to make this a,40 6 game.
Belmont s offense was back at work at the 3:37 mark of the quarter with Young running for eighteen
yards. Young would be sacked on the drive by #17(not on either roster I have)for a short loss at the
1:36 mark of the quarter. The drive ended on a 39 yard pass from Young to a wide opened Ja don
Rucker furlow with :52 showing on the clock. This time it would be Dorrick Conner converting the

Importance Of Education Of An Entrepreneur
Entrepreneur is a person who organizes and operates a business or businesses, taking on greater than
normal financial risks in order to do so. This career is stressful at time but this could be fun to be able
to have the ability to bring ideas to reality and change today s generation. Being an entrepreneur doesn
t mean creating clothing but also having your own service business. For an example, lawn mowing
service or a tree cutting service. You can also make your own invention. Something so small can
become something so big, the best inventor didn t become entrepreneurs overnight some of the even
made their inventions by accident and now their invention are still around and have changed
generation today. Becoming an entrepreneur you need to know the education, duties, and
responsibilities of an entrepreneur. Education of an Entrepreneur
Education for entrepreneurs is non specific you technically don t need an education to be an
entrepreneur. If you are running a client business you need to go to college to be a nurse or a doctor.
However, a strong business background can be helpful in securing financial support. Successful
entrepreneurs are well trained in their fields, qualifications can vary. For Example, Restaurateurs may
be new graduates of culinary schools and hospitality programs or skilled chefs. Being an entrepreneur
may sound like a walk in the park but what people don t understand is that it takes a lot of hard work.
There are a set of skills you need in order to

Comparing Gilgamesh And The Book Of Genesis
The Epic of Gilgamesh depicts a story about Gilgamesh, a king on earth who is two thirds god and
one third human. However, he is young and oppresses his people ruthlessly. The story takes the reader
on a journey through a series of events that ultimately leads Gilgamesh to find his true self. One
important historical event that took place is the flood, which occurs in both the Epic of Gilgamesh and
the Book of Genesis in the Old Testament. The Epic of Gilgamesh and the Book of Genesis in the Old
Testament share a great amount of similarities.
In both books, there are Gods who possess almighty powers on earth. In the Epic of Gilgamesh, Enlil,
the god of the winds, calls for a flood to end all of mankind because man was too noisy. Similarly, in
the Book of Genesis, God calls for a great flood to destroy all mankind because they were sinning. In
the Epic of Gilgamesh, Ea, the god of wisdom tells Utnapishtim in a dream to tear his house down and
build a boat. On the other hand ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Genesis its shape is a rectangular type of shape. In Gligamesh its more of a square shaped boat. When
the flood was all over they released birds to test the land and find a secure location. In Genesis the
birds that were used was raven and three doves but on the other hand Gilgamesh used a Dove,

The Film Moonlight Film Analysis
This is a criticism of Moonlight, a film directed by Barry Jenkins. It is a coming of age story, telling
the journey of a young gay black man named Chiron. Through linear character development the film
follows a young Chiron from adolescence into adulthood while growing up with alpha males in
Miamis black ghettos. The Story is told in three parts, with a different actor playing the lead role in
each section: a young Chiron named Little , as a teen named Chiron , and an adult named Black .
Despite a compelling lead performance by Mahershala Ali and Naomie Harris, and its great
soundtrack, Moonlight falls flat and never gets out of the shadow of its typical cliche plot, all the

but in the middle of the scene, there friendship takes a different turn. One night on the beach Kevin
and Chiron share and intimate moment, Chiron s first and only homosexual encounter with a man. Not
long after Kevin is pressured by the high schools bully Terrel, to attack Chiron. It makes no sense, as
to why Kevin would do such a thing after an intense, intimate moment the two had just previously
shared. This act is another reminder to Chiron that he cannot trust anyone, especially after the
complete betrayal that Kevin has shown in front of countless other students. Chiron and Kevin shared
an emotional connection that he has never experienced before. The scene ends as, Chiron walks in to
class, as per usual does not say one word, and slams Terrel in the back of the head with a chair and is
taken to Juvenile Detention. This is a defining moment as we see Chiron standing up for him self.
However, it leaves the audience wanting more. Now as part two comes to a conclusion we see that
Chiron had the opportunity to become his own and live up to his true identity. Yet, Not much has

Queen Elizabeth 1
Elizabeth I of England was the queen for forty five years. She was often referred to as Good Queen
Bess, Gloriana, or the Virgin Queen. During her reign, Elizabeth was imprisoned, threatened by
conspiracy, dealt with impending warfare, and had to answer to the question of marriage so she and
her country would survive. She had endured so much and brought so much culture during her reign
that it s not surprising that her long reign is called the Elizabethan Era, or the Golden Age of England.

This gave Catholic countries, such as France and Spain, another reason to attack England and also
brought on threats to the Queen, along with assassinations and attempts to overthrow her so that her
cousin, Mary, Queen of Scots, could be queen. As many Catholics tried to take the throne away from
Elizabeth I, she decided to imprison Mary, Queen of Scots for twenty years before beheading her.
Since Elizabeth I was excommunicated, she was forced to impose harsher laws on Catholics and
helped Protestants in Spanish Holland rebel. This made the Spanish Armada attempt to invade
England in 1588, but the English navy was able to defeat them. Many say that weather conditions had
to do with the victory, along with the fact that Sir Francis Drake was a sea dog that was in the English
navy at the time. Elizabeth I would also use her single status to deal with these attacks and to get out
of major warfare with Spain or France. She would often threaten to marry foes of other s and she
would court many men, including Eric XIV of Sweden, Archduke Charles of Austria, Henry, Duke of
Anjou, and Francis, Duke of Anjou and Alençon. She was able to navigate through many political and
foreign affairs through these courtships, which kept England out of trouble. Later, Elizabeth I was
considered to be married to her country, which made her extremely popular with her

Pros And Cons Of Internet Censorship
From September 29, 2007 to October 4, 2007 the country of Myanmar shut off all internet connections
to the outside world following a harsh government reaction to protest were 200 protestors were killed
(Subramanian, 2011). In January 2011 Egypt disconnected all internet traffic into and out of the
country in response to anti government protest (Subramanian, 2011).
In the western democratic regions internet censorship is not as heavy as in the east and muslim nations
(Greengard, 2010). However, research shows that France, Poland, and Germany have all turned to
internet censorship to ban sites that have support Nazi causes (Greengard, 2010). In 1996 and 1998 the
United States passed laws, Communications Decency Act and Child Online Protection Act to make
way for internet censorship (Subramanian, 2011). The United State Supreme Court overturned both
laws as being unconstitutional (Subramanian, 2011). Financial pressure was used in the Wikileaks
case, when the United States government threatened to prosecute any financial institutions handling
donations and service providers who sold related merchandise (Murdoch Roberts, 2013). India has
required Gmail, Blackberry, and Skype to provide their encryption keys to the government following
terrorist attacks in Mumbai (Eko, Kumar, Yao, 2011). Further, India has required Google to take down
content that the government found to be objectional (Eko et al, 2011). Facebook blocked all users in

Film Music Evaluation
Perhaps because my father was a musician and because every day since I can remember music has
been in the background or literally behind the scene in every aspect of my life that makes prone to the
tunes located in a film s soundtrack, but regardless I believe the music within a movie to be one of its
most important and integral aspects one which might consistently be taken for granted. As an
audience, we are accustomed to watching a film and analyzing the process and its creation undergoes.
More than often the soundtrack is ignored. Perhaps the ability to break down a movie into smaller
clips and our focus on visual simulation is what makes sound unnoticeable. And where we pause a
film to study its scenes, to study sound we must dedicate our time to listen to the sounds which is itself
an endeavor.
They say that a picture is speaks a thousand words. I say that where pictures and words stop words
leave off music begins. Music like an epidemic is silent, but can have a powerful effect. Whether, we

Walden Location Essay
In Thoreau s novel, Walden, the reader is introduced to Thoreau s world and how it is greatly impacted
by location. Thoreau begins his project by moving away from civilization and searching for a place to
live. He finds his temporary home at Walden Pond, where he starts with few resources and little
outside inputs. Thoreau even has to borrow the axe that he uses to cut down trees to make his home
for the next two years. Thoreau asserts that his experiment, moving to Walden Pond, is not permanent.
Walden Pond is, however, the foundation precept of how location impacts one s way of life. The place
one live shapes the way one live and how one interact with the world around oneself.
Before Thoreau makes the bold decision of living in seclusion, he lives in a community. Thoreau

that he inhabits becomes his main concern and priority. This helps readers to understand why the place

Masseter Muscle Research Paper
Masseter Muscle
The masseter muscle is a thick, strong muscle that functions as one of the major muscles of
mastication (2,8). The muscle arises from the zygomatic arch and zygomatic bone and inserts
inferiorly on the external surface of the ramus of the mandible. The masseter has superficial and deep
heads. The superficial head travels distally and posteriorly, attaching near the angle of the mandible.
The smaller deep head inserts to the upper region of the ramus of the mandible (2).
The masseter is a powerful elevator of the mandible and provides the force necessary to chew
efficiently. The primary function of the masseter, therefore, is to develop large forces between the
molars for effective grinding and crushing of food (8). As the ... Show more content on

Bilateral contraction of the medial pterygoid produces elevation and protrusion of the mandible, while
unilateral contraction produces contralateral excursion (8). Along with the masseter muscle, it forms a
muscular sling that supports the mandible at the mandibular angle. Simultaneous contractions of these

Managing And Analyzing Big Data
Managing and analyzing big data is a huge task for all organizations of all sizes and across all
industries. If a business s plan to implement a data management tools there is a need for a more
realistic way of capturing information about their customers, products, and services. Mining data is
often in the terabytes and organizations need to be able to quickly analyze that data and then pull
appropriate information needed to make managerial decisions. Further, with the insurgence of social
media, smart devices and click stream, data is generated daily on global networks through interactions.
The use of data management technologies allow a company to interface unstructured data and
structured data to gleam information that is usable for business managers to make sound business
decisions, improve sales and to decrease operating costs. Big data integration and analysis has evolved
for organizations to store, manage, and manipulate vast amounts of data then provide the appropriate
information when it s needed to meet business objectives. Big data is an element that allows
companies to leverage high volume data effectively and not in isolation. Big data needs to be quickly

Research Paper On The Chinese Zodiac
The Chinese Zodiac, also known as Shang Xiao, has been used for thousands of years, and it is still
used by millions of people across the world (History Origin). The Chinese Zodiac is based on the year
an individual is born rather than the month and day (Western Zodiac). Legends and mythology are a
tremendous part of Chinese culture, especially in the Chinese Zodiac (Chinese Zodiac History). The
Chinese Zodiac is based on a twelve year cycle in which each year is related to an animal sign. There
are 12 animal signs that are included in the calendar: the rat, the ox, the tiger, the rabbit, the dragon,

Dual Identity And Dual Identity
With the end of my first term in Cambridge approaches, I will as a future reference, leave this

the first time ever; I got to test and refine my skills in English, socialise with people from diverse
culture and background, and in a true sense be independent and manage my own life. In most ways, I
did successfully transform into the new environment which I have admired for ages. I established a

this stage, my friends over home shall have no clue how I have changed. Was this a dual identity? I
myself is confused to answer this question, but what I do know is that the potential I had, suppressed
by the abhorrent culture back home, was finally broke loose from the oppression and started to act
upon myself. Though I have somewhat expected it, I admit I failed to predict how extensive the
change will be. However what I firmly believe is that this second chance that was given to me, I will
try to utilise as best as I can. I have said a lot that I should try out and explore. Until now, it was just
words; because of my long life back at home, I didn t have the opportunity to fully explore the outside
world. Now is the time this will continue. Relations with other Koreans is

The Success of Stephanie Meyer Essay
I d never given much thought to how I would die, but dying in the place of someone I love seems like
a good way to go. Those are the famous words that started it all, The Twilight Saga Phenomenon. The
Twilight Saga consists of four novels: Twilight, New Moon, Eclipse, and Breaking Dawn. Stephanie
Meyer, author of the popular saga, majored in English literature at Brigham Young University. After
graduating in 1997, Meyer chose to be a stay at home mother to her three sons. The concept of the
whole saga came to her in a dream one night. When she woke up, she took a pen and paper and
documented everything that occurred in her dream. She then based all four novels on that dream
because she had a gut feeling that it was going to make a great ... Show more content on

No one besides her sister knew that she was writing a novel, little known at the time, but the
masterpiece known as Twilight. Since Meyer is a mother of three, and is busy with her kids needs and
wants all day, she would take time late at night to work on writing her novel. And in three short
months, she completed Twilight, regardless of her insignificant amount of experience in writing. In all
four works, Bella Swan in the protagonist. The story is centered around her life. All four books are
written in her perspective. Meyer usually tends to write all her stories as first person narratives,
including books that are not related to the Twilight Saga like The Host. When Meyer writes, she
becomes completely engrossed in the characters. The main reason why she writes is because of the
characters she creates. She envisions them in her brain. She talks to them all day, and they talk back.
Coming up with the perfect names for the two main characters was a very tough process. She wanted a
name that was popular decades ago, but at the same time, she wanted a name that was romantic for the
vampire. Since Meyer grew up reading Charlotte Bronte and Jane Austen, she used the characters Mr.
Ferrars and Mr. Rochester from their works as an inspiration; thus leading her to choose the name
Edward. After coming up with the names for the twosome, and was still in the process of creating their
story, they would constantly talk to her. She heard their voices all day, so Meyer would

Darkness At Noon Analysis
The novel, Darkness at Noon, clearly referenced Stalin s purges that occurred during the late 1930s.
The story follows an old Bolshevik Rubashov as he experienced the Great Purge and subsequent show
trial. Through a theme of old vs. new and the overarching fear and brutality of the time period,
Darkness at Noon contributes to a further understanding of the 30s in the Soviet Union. Throughout
the novel, the contrast between the old and the new held an important position in the overall story. By
underlining this idea, Koestler illustrated the importance of the old and new communists during the
Great Purges. The characters of Wassilij, Vera Wassiljovna, Ivanov, and Gletkin showed these
contrasting groups. In Soviet politics, the two interrogators illustrated the juxtaposition between old
and new. The first interrogator Ivanov represented the old guard while his successor Gletkin
characterized the new guard. Ivanov was an old Bolshevik he once had a picture of the old party on
the wall. A former friend of Rubashov, the two attended university together and fought in the civil war.
Despite the circumstances, Ivanov was rather friendly with Rubashov and confessed that he did not
want Rubashov to be shot (82). After talking for a while, Rubashov stated,
I am curious to know, he said aloud, what scheme you have for my salvation. The way in which you
have examined me up till now seems to have exactly the opposite aim. Ivanov s smile became broad
and beaming. You old fool, he

Serial Killers And The Killers
Serial Killers Serials killers can be defined in different ways, depending on who you ask. If you ask
me, I think a serial killer is someone who has killed more than a couple people. If you ask someone
else more than likely you will get a different definition. But what really is the definition of a serial
killer? According to Zoe McKnight Serial murders usually refer to two or more murders at different
places and times with a cooling off period in between, rather than several unrelated murders, or a
killing spree (McKnight). So basically the real definition of a serial killer is someone who has killed at
least two people with some time in between the murders. Rather than a killing spree which would be
killing person after person. That would be a mass murderer. What I find really interesting about serial
killers is how they choose their victims or why they choose the people they do, characteristics of the
killer s victims and what serial killers have in common with other serial killers, and more importantly
why they actually kill people, and what happens to them once they get caught. The majority of serial
killers are men, and they mainly target women. Women have danger blind spots that prevent them
from recognizing when and how they might be at risk (Richard Rys). Meaning that if a handsome guy
walks up to a woman, the woman won t think much about it. No one goes around thinking that every
person that talks to them or that they talk to is going to be a killer. Most

Apathy In American Psycho
I believe that everyone in my generation should watch the controversial film American Psycho. This
movie is essentially a social commentary on how our society is dying. It provides some examples of
the symptoms of a dying society we see in our world today, like apathy, moral decay, and affluenza.
American Psycho displays apathy in the last scene of the movie. The main character,
Patrick Bateman, had just committed mass murder the night before and confessed it to his lawyer. His
lawyer, fearing the public backlash against Patrick, essentially told him to act as if nothing happened.
Patrick was never punished for his heinous crime because no one cared enough to prosecute him. In
addition, when Patrick returned to the apartment where he murdered his friend several days before, he
found a real estate company there that was cleaning up the place and attempting to sell the apartment.
When he inspected ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One scene that displays this features Patrick and his friends comparing business cards. Patrick s card is
not the best, so he has a mental breakdown. In another scene, he kills his friend because his friend
likes a different restaurant than Patrick does. Perhaps the most glaring example, however, is the scene
where he brutally stabs a homeless man to death: first, he felt bad for the homeless and said he would
help the him, but then when Patrick saw that the homeless man was absolutely pathetic by Patrick s
standards , Patrick proceeded to take out a knife and stab the homeless man to death. American Psycho
is a masterfully crafted social commentary relevant today. It shows the signs of a defective and dying
society, which include apathy, moral decay, and affluenza. This is relevant today because these three
qualities are exactly what we see today in society. American Psycho can be interpreted as a call to
action, to maintain high moral standards and to not let our wealth blind us to the needs of other

Decriminalization Of Mental Health
Additionally, in order to combat the large increase in homelessness many of whom are war vets, who
have been diagnosed with a mental illness, and also those who have been involved in
deinstitutionalization in the late 60 s; the Mental Health Act created a bill that would help end
homelessness. The bill would only work if the Department of Health and Human services awards
grants in order to provide; Mental Health Services, Education about mental health, and integrated,
coordinated treatment for disorders that constantly reoccur.
Lastly, in hopes of limiting the amount of individuals being sent to psychiatric facilities, the Mental
Health and Parity Act creates preventive measures for those who may be susceptible to mental illness
and those who are currently struggling with a diagnosed illness. The bill would put into place
preventive measures by teaching individuals vital information regarding the illness, while also helping
the become self aware of their emotional state. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With such an increase in awareness about mental illness, the stigmas is slowly being acknowledged
and changed, especially considering the tragic history of mental health. Moreover, the hope is to
change the way mental illness Is being treated by taking preventive measures and fully understanding
the history of mental health. Once the history of mental health has been unstood then will we as a
society be able to create a safer environment for these individuals to feel safe and un judged by those

Just A Dream By Chris Van Allsburg
The children s book, Just a Dream by Chris Van Allsburg explains the importance of having a clean
environment and what the consequences will be if you do not take care of it. The story opens with
Walter eating a jelly doughnut and throwing the empty bag it came in at the fire hydrant. This
displayed how Walter did not take littering seriously, but at the end realized how important it truly is
to keep the environment pollution free. Allsburg takes us on a journey through Walter s dreams
explaining what you should and should not do to the environment through words and the detailed
illustrations.
Walter is the main protagonist in Allsburg book because the story is based off of all of the dreams he is
having and is on each page of the book. When you flip through the book, you notice in the opening
scene that first Walter has his back faced towards the reader and when you keep going through Walter
is always there. One thing we can notice when we look at the book is how unappreciative he is of
nature. When Rose says she got a tree for her birthday he did not seem so pleased about it instead, he
called it a dumb plant. Also, he was supposed to sort through the trash and recycle, but instead he just
puts everything in one trash can which shows how he does not care about recycling. Walter realizes at
the end that nature is important and we should cherish it. When he returns back from all his dreams he
gets up and goes outside to the trash that he did not sort through and puts the

What Were The Causes Of The Red River Rebellion In Canada
During the past years, The events known as the Red River rebellion occurred. The Red River rebellion
was caused when Canada gained a lot of land in Rupert s Land, this scared a lot of us as we feared for
our culture, and land rights under the control of the Canadiens. Because of this, we banded together to
create a provisional government to make terms for entering their colony. This created the province of
Manitoba, a new name for the same home.
In, 1812 Scottish settlers created our colony at the junction of two rivers. In, 1836 the population was
mostly French and English Métis and HBC owned our land.
The rebellion started in 1850 when the rule of the Hudson s bay company was threatened (under
attack) by the British, the Canadians, and the Americans. In 1860 they were readying to sell Rupert s
land and the Northwest to Canada, this included us. While Canada and the Hudson s Bay Company
were making a deal, the protestant s from the east (Canada) and their anger and violent ways caused
our roman catholic population to fear for their land rights, religion, and culture. Canada acted as if we

The Canadiens wanted to survey our farms near rivers (river lot farms). The lots followed the
seigneurial system that is present in New France, not the English way. Many of us did not have clear
rights to our land, and so we feared the loss of our farms. Our fears grew worse when the lieutenant
governor was appointed as William McDougall. Because, of this Louis Riel stepped in to save the day.
He gathered support and stopped McDougall and his team of surveyors from reaching our land. He

Effects Of Industrialization
After the civil war, the United States took steps to become a more industrialized country. They wanted
to become more progressive and many people viewed this economic growth as evidence of the
superiority of the American system . The effects industrialization can be seen throughout history
between 1865 and 1914. Industrialization improved the American way of life but also created many
problems for them. The Industrialization transformed humanity s struggle with material scarcity to
expand the production of goods and services. The percentage of 17 year old high school graduates
who graduated with a diploma continued to rise from 1870 to 1910. In 1870, 2% of 17 year olds

There were long working hours with small pay and extremely dangerous working conditions. Stephen
Crane writes in In the Depths of a Coal Mine in August 1894 that It has only to tighten slightly, and he
is crushed like a bug....There is an insidious, silent enemy in the gas. If the huge fan wheel on the top
of the earth should stop for a brief period, there is certain death....Meanwhile the miner gets three
dollars per day, and his laborer one dollar and a quarter. Here Crane is only describing the working life
of a coal miner. He discusses how dangerous the job is and how low the pay is. There were no safety
precautions and no safety gear or protection at all. If one small thing went wrong, you had a likely
chance of dying. Many important inventions were being invented at this time which had a profound
impact of the modern life. Thomas Edison invented over 1,000 inventions throughout his life. One of
the most important and well known inventions that changed the American way of life was the
phonograph in 1877. The phonograph was a machine with two needles: one needle was for recording
sounds and the other was for the playback. When Edison would speak into the mouthpiece, the sound
vibrations of his voice would be indented onto the cylinder by the recording needle
(http://www.americaslibrary.gov/aa/edison/aa_edison_phonograph_1.html). It was made to give
entertainment for the people by providing a way of listening to music. The phonograph

The Current Systems And Policies
In contemporary Scotland, there are a large variety of needs that people require to live comfortable
and fulfilling lives. These needs arise in lots of different areas such as healthcare, education and
housing. The concept of need is a fundamentally important aspect of social policy because most social
policies are primarily implemented with the goal of helping and supporting people whose needs are
not currently being met by society. This essay will solely focus on the needs that come up regarding
healthcare, and will look to evaluate the current systems and policies in place that are tasked with
meeting these needs. Nearly every member of Scottish society will, at some point whether it be at
birth or in old age, require some type of health service to support them and meet their needs so it is
vitally important that these services are readily accessible and are of a satisfactory standard. Some of
the specific healthcare issues explored will include; the access to prescription medicine, the impacts of
free childhood immunisation programs, the dangers of smoking and the negative effect of alcohol
abuse on the National Health Service. This essay will also look to come to a general conclusion about
whether enough is being done to maintain the universal health and well being of the people of
Scotland.
The concept of need can often be difficult to define because it can mean different things to different
people and people s needs naturally differ from one another. Needs can differ

  • 16. William Shakespeare s Hamlet Mirror to Society Within the play Hamlet, William Shakespeare wrote what he thought to be the purpose of theatre. He defined theatre to be the actor s ability to hold up a mirror to nature and portray what is actually happening within society. During the time of Shakespeare, the main aim in theatre was to create a night of entertainment, where society could escape from the issues of the day. However, Shakespeare s message of reflection would take hold in the 19th century as the primary purpose for theatre and evoke a modernization within theatre that insisted it be a reflection of reality. During the 1890s, two strategies developed in an effort to restore the Celtic heritage in Ireland, the Irish Literary Movement and the Neo Gaelic revival. It is for this reason that an Irish Literary Renaissance began spreading through Ireland. This renaissance was influenced by an increase in the national interest for Gaelic legends and myths. The revival of the old Gaelic heritage served as inspiration to the growing political nationalism. At the close of the 19th century, Nationalist movements were spreading throughout most of Europe. In Ireland, the nationalist movement was calling for separation from British oppression. Ireland had been under English rule for over 300 years and saw itself ready for home rule. Irish politics began to pressure its artists into displaying a civilized and respectable national image. However, the Irish people could not agree on an exact image. ... However, he is young and oppresses his people ruthlessly. The story takes the reader on a journey through a series of events that ultimately leads Gilgamesh to find his true self. One important historical event that took place is the flood, which occurs in both the Epic of Gilgamesh and the Book of Genesis in the Old Testament. The Epic of Gilgamesh and the Book of Genesis in the Old Testament share a great amount of similarities. In both books, there are Gods who possess almighty powers on earth. In the Epic of Gilgamesh, Enlil, the god of the winds, calls for a flood to end all of mankind because man was too noisy. The story follows an old Bolshevik Rubashov as he experienced the Great Purge and subsequent show trial. Through a theme of old vs. new and the overarching fear and brutality of the time period, Darkness at Noon contributes to a further understanding of the 30s in the Soviet Union. Throughout the novel, the contrast between the old and the new held an important position in the overall story. By underlining this idea, Koestler illustrated the importance of the old and new communists during the Great Purges. The characters of Wassilij, Vera Wassiljovna, Ivanov, and Gletkin showed these contrasting groups. In Soviet politics, the two interrogators illustrated the juxtaposition between old and new. The first interrogator Ivanov represented the old guard while his successor Gletkin characterized the new guard. Ivanov was an old Bolshevik he once had a picture of the old party on the wall. • 42. Serial Killers And The Killers Serial Killers Serials killers can be defined in different ways, depending on who you ask. If you ask me, I think a serial killer is someone who has killed more than a couple people. If you ask someone else more than likely you will get a different definition. But what really is the definition of a serial killer? According to Zoe McKnight Serial murders usually refer to two or more murders at different places and times with a cooling off period in between, rather than several unrelated murders, or a killing spree (McKnight). So basically the real definition of a serial killer is someone who has killed at least two people with some time in between the murders. Rather than a killing spree which would be killing person after person. That would be a mass murderer. What I find really interesting about serial killers is how they choose their victims or why they choose the people they do, characteristics of the killer s victims and what serial killers have in common with other serial killers, and more importantly why they actually kill people, and what happens to them once they get caught. The majority of serial killers are men, and they mainly target women. Women have danger blind spots that prevent them from recognizing when and how they might be at risk (Richard Rys). Meaning that if a handsome guy walks up to a woman, the woman won t think much about it. No one goes around thinking that every person that talks to them or that they talk to is going to be a killer. • 43. Apathy In American Psycho I believe that everyone in my generation should watch the controversial film American Psycho. This movie is essentially a social commentary on how our society is dying. It provides some examples of the symptoms of a dying society we see in our world today, like apathy, moral decay, and affluenza. American Psycho displays apathy in the last scene of the movie. The main character, Patrick Bateman, had just committed mass murder the night before and confessed it to his lawyer. His lawyer, fearing the public backlash against Patrick, essentially told him to act as if nothing happened. Patrick was never punished for his heinous crime because no one cared enough to prosecute him. In addition, when Patrick returned to the apartment where he murdered his friend several days before, he found a real estate company there that was cleaning up the place and attempting to sell the apartment. When he inspected ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One scene that displays this features Patrick and his friends comparing business cards. Patrick s card is not the best, so he has a mental breakdown. In another scene, he kills his friend because his friend likes a different restaurant than Patrick does. Perhaps the most glaring example, however, is the scene where he brutally stabs a homeless man to death: first, he felt bad for the homeless and said he would help the him, but then when Patrick saw that the homeless man was absolutely pathetic by Patrick s standards , Patrick proceeded to take out a knife and stab the homeless man to death. American Psycho is a masterfully crafted social commentary relevant today. It shows the signs of a defective and dying society, which include apathy, moral decay, and affluenza. This is relevant today because these three qualities are exactly what we see today in society. American Psycho can be interpreted as a call to action, to maintain high moral standards and to not let our wealth blind us to the needs of other ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Allsburg takes us on a journey through Walter s dreams explaining what you should and should not do to the environment through words and the detailed illustrations. Walter is the main protagonist in Allsburg book because the story is based off of all of the dreams he is having and is on each page of the book. When you flip through the book, you notice in the opening scene that first Walter has his back faced towards the reader and when you keep going through Walter is always there. Also, he was supposed to sort through the trash and recycle, but instead he just puts everything in one trash can which shows how he does not care about recycling.
