Henri Mintzbergs Model On Organizational Structures
Mintzbergs Model on Organisational Structures
The Five Parts
This note summarises the key features of Henri Mintzbergs theory on the structuring of organisations,
which he presented in his book The Structuring of Organisations and Structure in 5 s: Designing
Effective Organizations in the early 1980s.
According to Mintzberg organisations are formed of five main parts:
Operating core
Those who perform the basic work related directly to the production of products and services
Strategic apex
Charged with ensuring that the organisation serve its mission in an effective way, and also that it serve
the needs of those people who control or otherwise have power over the organisation

Machine bureaucracy type structures are performance organizations not problem solving ones.
Professional Bureaucracy
The professional bureaucracy relies for coordination on: * the standardization of skills and its
associated parameters such as design, training and indoctrination. * In professional bureaucracy type
structures duly trained and indoctrinated specialists professionals are hired for the operating core, and
then considerable control over their work is given to them. * Most of the necessary coordination
between the operating professionals is handled by the standardization of skills and knowledge
especially by what they have learned to expect from their colleagues.
Whereas the machine bureaucracy generates its own standards the standards of the professional
bureaucracy originate largely outside its own structure (especially in the self governing association its
operators join with their colleagues from other professional bureaucracies). The professional
bureaucracy emphasizes authority of a professional nature or in other words the power of expertise .
The strategies of the professional bureaucracy are mainly developed by the individual professionals
within the organization as well as of the

Performance Appraisal Notes Essay
A. Explain the benefits of performance appraisal systems within an organization in which you address
the following: A1. Present the optimal results of a well prepared and well delivered performance
appraisal. *If the company establishes a well prepared and well delivered performance appraisal, what
are the best results the company can expect? (employee prospective and company perspective are
good here) Performance appraisals are a tool that most companies use when assessing their
employees. A well prepared and well delivered performance appraisal can be beneficial to both the
employee and the company. The company benefits in many different ways when they deliver this type
of performance appraisal. The performance appraisal process ... Show more content on

(suggestion: ongoing activities and in the time proximal to the performance review) It is important to
make time for pre appraisal activities to make sure that the benefits are at max potential. It will hurt
the chances of maximizing gains for both the company and the employee if the following activities are
not done beforehand. The most important thing when it comes to being ready for the performance
appraisal is being well prepared. The manager needs to make sure that he sets aside enough time to
perform the pre appraisal activities. These activities include establishing a time for the appraisal and
relating it to the employee, making sure to lay out all new and old goals for the employee, giving the
employee an advance copy of the review, collecting the employee s review of themselves, and
collecting all notes taken that may validate your points and emphasize your decisions as well as the
last performance appraisal. It is important to make sure that the employee has enough time to prepare
for the appraisal. This allows for quality feedback from them and will also lead to quality questions. In
order to make it the most beneficial appraisal possible, then both sides need to be well prepared. Goals
and expectations will be completely understood if both parties have an idea of what s expected of
them. The employee can have questions ready for things that they may not understand. There may be
instances where they can ask for additional training in areas

Alliances During World War 1 Essay
Alliances During World War 1 Although there were many underlying reasons for the European nations
to break out in war, the early days of the fighting between Serbia and Austria caused the expansion of
the war, along with the alliances which failed to remain peace and actually contributed to the war.
Also, the possibility of remaining neutral and prepared is always another alternative, rather than
forming allies that may require the nation to enter a war. A war between Serbia and Austria caused 7
nations to enter the fighting, justified by the reason of supporting alliances previously formed and
underlying conflicts. Initially, World War I was spurred by the assassination of Arch Duke Ferdinand
of Austria on June 28th of 1914 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By the end of all of the formations of alliances two powers emerged, the Allies, which consisted of
Great Britain, France, Serbia, Russia, and Belgium, and the Central Powers which was Germany,
Austria Hungary, and then later joined by Bulgaria and Turkey. These alliances did not maintain the
peace in the least bit because if a war were to break out, it would involve all of the greater powers of
Europe since the members of each group would feel the only right thing to do would be to support one
another during the war. The alliances themselves actually contributed to the war because they caused
more and more nations to enter the war as it progressed. The alliances formed ties between the nations
that required them to support a country during a time of need, which in this case was war. The
possibility of remaining neutral but prepared is always an option in time of war, although it may not
work out that way. Several countries remained neutral, such as America, until the Germans declared
unrestricted submarine warfare, causing the need to join the war. The Netherlands also remained
neutral, along with the Dutch who opened their doors for Belgian refugees. Also, the Dutch sent food
and clothes to the remaining Belgians as far as the Germans allowed them to. Those countries
remained neutral, however they were not necessarily prepared for war. Remaining neutral yet prepared
is a hard strategy to

The Incorporation Of Music In The Middle Ages
Music has always been apart of my life ,from the tender age of six years old we have ever been apart.
The art form of musical arts will forever intrigue me and compel me to push myself to my musical
limit. The history of the evolution of music through the centuries is quite alluring. The formulation of
musical intellectually concepts and leaps of faith that composers at the time took, is in my opinion of
standing ovation recognition.
The development of music from the time line in the middle ages(450 1450) was known for
incorporation of music in the church that was done by the monks. As I listened to the pieces of music
done by the monks, their music known to be Gregorian chant, it really embodies serenity and the
sacred intent for the music. The resonation of the voices compliment the simplicity of the monophonic
arrangement of the chant. The use of the male voices gives a richness in texture to the chant.Later on
in the century there was the incorporation of chants composed by women, that explore the wider vocal
ranges. In my view the musical genius gene was not exclusive to just men alone this was clearly seen
with the composer Hildegard of Bingen. Her pieces of music was visionary ... Show more content on

expansion of music to the widely spread to everyone to princes, kings and dignitaries. There was an
increase in composers and creativity. I love the arrangement of the polyphonic and harmonic element
to the music and the overlapping of the vocals really compliments the kaotic functionality of their
music. The lack of instruments makes me appreciate the vocal instrument and the exploration of

Pharmacist Refill Research Paper
Set up and workflow of my pharmacy is easy and pretty fast. When a patient comes in with a
prescription or for a refill, it takes about twenty minutes to fill up the prescription. If a patient comes
in with new prescription, it is inputted and check then directly goes into the filling. In my pharmacy,
there is an automatic calling system which gives the patient a call or a text message when their
prescription is ready if they are being added to the system. If there is a refill, then pharmacist can
check on their profile whether they have refills or not. If no refills are left pharmacist calls the
physician and give all the information about the patient, and authorize the refill on the patient s behalf.
Once the refill is being authorized, pharmacist can fill the prescription. Technician fills up the
prescription by grabbing the right bottle from the shelves. The medicine bottles are kept

Contradictions Of Imperialism In George Orwell s Shooting...
Shooting an Elephant by George Orwell is a narrative essay that tells about a time that he had to kill
an elephant, but he had many challenges when deciding to do so. Orwell had situations that he had to
go through, and he also had to make very contemplating choices within himself. It s almost as if the
elephant s death determined his fate. In Shooting an Elephant Orwell states, I was young and ill
educated and I had had to think out my problems in the utter silence that is imposed on every
Englishmen in the East. (page 1) This hints that Orwell will obviously come into some predicaments
that will determine the state of his manhood. Orwell had several occasions where he contradicted
himself and his beliefs. These contradictions involved Imperialism, the Burmese people, and killing
the elephant.
In Shooting an Elephant Orwell contradicts himself about Imperialism. In the essay Imperialism is
well influenced in Burma. Orwell is a British police officer sent to Burma to enforce imperialism
among the Burmese people. At the time Orwell is very young and has no experience in his position as
a police officer. Soon after he got to Burma he begins to despise his job. Almost everyday he had to
witness prisoners in filthy cages and men tortured. He felt that he was doing the dirty work of the
government. Orwell emotions went into an uproar and he begins to feel a sense of hatred for
Imperialism. Orwell says Imperialism is an evil thing but he still works to enforce its mission. This
can be very confusing because he hates the job that he has to do, how he is treated because of his job,
and what people think of him because of what he is working for.
Orwell futhers to contradict himself and the maturity of his manhood with his relationship with the
Burmese people. When he finally arrives he is hated and taunted by the Burmese people. He would be
humiliated in front of crowds at football games and young men would sneer at him every chance they
would get. Orwell also says he would feel a great joy to drive a bayonet into a Buddhist priest s guts.
This statement would make the reader believe he hates the Burmese. At this point in the essay Orwell
starts to contradict himself again by secretly expressing a

Summary Of A Red Rose By Robert Burns
Robert Burns A Red Red Rose On the romanticism era Robert Burns wrote the poem named A Red
Red Rose. In this poem Burns writes about his love for a girl and how strong and deep it is for her, as
he says I will love thee still my dear, till a the seas gang dry. Robert Burns was born on January 25th,
1759 in Alloway Scotland. Parents William Burns and Agnes Broun, his parents were farmers, though
they lived in that life of farming they wanted their son Robert Burns to have and receive a good
education and when he started getting the education they wanted him to have, burns also started to
read more and started to have a huge place in his heart for poetry. Burns father died in 1784 in
bankruptcy and then bruns and his brother Gilbert took over the farm, but that didn t stop him from
reading and getting influenced by different famous people. He was influenced by different poets like
Alexander Pope, Henry Mackenzie, and Laurence Sterne; His hard physical labour on the family is
what increasingly turned his attention toward the passion of poetry. Robert Burns turned his full
attention to poetry after what happened with his family and at age of fifteen he fell in love and wrote
his first poem, burns pursued both love and poetry. In 1785 he fathered the first of his fourteen
children and between 1784 and 1785 burns collected in his first collection which was Chiefly in the
Scottish Dialect and was printed in 1786 and was also paid for by subscriptions. That poem was
immediately one of the best and robert was celebrated throughout England and Scotland as a great
peasant poet. He wrote many more poems and later in 1788 he got married to Jean Armour and
fathered twins, but a split in their marriage nearly led to burns moving to the west indies with his other
lover Mary Campbell, later with Mary s sudden death and his sensational success of his first published
collection that kept him in scotland, burns became very known and famous across the country of
scotland at just 27 years old. Burns would not only make poems but would also sometimes turn them
into songs and give them for someone to perform. In just 18 months Burns spent all his wealth from
what he got from when he published his poem, and

TITLE
In today s societies every member of society connected with others. They affect each other with their
opinions or behaviors. In this environment, people want to have an influence on others with
persuading them. Robert Cialdini shows us how important the persuasion in our relationships.
Persuasion is inducing someone to do something through reasoning or argument. In his book,
Influence: The psychology of persuasion, he indicates that our decision making depends on shortcuts
and fast decisions more than critical thinking with considering all information. He identified these six
shortcuts as Reciprocity, Scarcity, Authority, Consistency, Social Proof and Liking. In the case study,

Almost our all communications with others include these tactics but they are hard to detect because
they are a natural part of relations. In these relations sometimes we are the side that tries to persuade
others and sometimes reverse. Any people can give you a memory any of this two side. As a memory
of being persuaded I had a remarkable memory. It was my first day in Istanbul and I was very excited
about it. I came to Istanbul with the bus because all planes were full. When I came to the bus station I
saw plenty of sellers who were annoyingly insistent. My goal was going to metro station without
stopping to talk to them because I knew that I would try hard to sell me something if I stop.
Unfortunately, I could not reach my goal and one of these sellers stopped me. He said that he sells
original perfumes and his perfumes are export surpluses this is why they are so cheap. He asked my
homeland and he said he is from there too which I am very sure that is a lie. Also, he said that he had
only three perfumes to sell so it was my last chance to buy one. It was very annoying and I bought one
perfume because I want to get rid of him. Or at least I thought that way. After reading Cialdini s book
and his persuasion tactics I realize that the seller used these tactics on me very masterly even though
he seems uneducated. Even though I thought that I bought that perfume to get rid of him, I can see
now that he convinced

The Mechanics And Technicality Based Conceptual...
Module three was probably the most complex modules that we have encountered this semester for me.
I viewed this module as the mechanics and technicality based conceptual understanding of consumer
behavior. We recognize that consumer behavior isn t just static, but is much more in tune with the
complexity that is the Human mind. This module to me represented the consumer coming to the final
stage of the consumption process and becoming aware that a final decision is eminent. When I look
back at my purchases I think how much went into buying an item or service and actually getting to
that point where I have made that final purchase. It s interesting the one thing that spurs my whole
consumption process is when I have told myself that I really want something, I need something, or I
have to have something. This self awareness is what even allows the consumer to know what
specifically they want to purchase. If we don t have this identifying behavior then product selection
ends up being a moot point. My purchases are filled with items that were to serve a specific need or
want. I usually identified this need and began the evaluative process. This process can be easily
influenced through a multitude of different situational characteristics that are both intended and
unintended. There are characteristics that the store or organization will try to put out and the portion
that comes from product and consumer habits. I think for me as I look at the products I buy and the
places I go

Archetype In Shirley Jackson s The Lottery
Griffin, Amy A. in his article The lottery asserts that, in shirley jackson s The Lottery A good harvest
has always been vital to civilizations. After the fields have been prepared and the seeds sown, the
farmer can only wait and hope that the proper balance of rain and sun will ensure a good harvest.
From this hope spring ritual. Many ancient cultures believe that growing crops represented the life
cycle, beginning with what one associates with the end death. Seeds buried, apparently without hope of
germination, represent death, but with the life forces of water and the sun, the seeds grows,
representing rebirth, consequently, ancient peoples began sacrificial rituals to emulate this resurrection
cycle. What began as a vegetation ritual developed into a cathartic cleansing of an entire tribe or
village. By transferring one s sins to person or animals and then sacrificing them, people believe that
their sins would be eliminated, a process that has been termed the scapegoat archetype ( guerin et al.
158). In her short story The Lottery Shirley Jackson uses this archetype to build on man s inherent
need for such ritual. (44).
There are several details given about the villagers tradition. It s not the same tradition as it was a long
time ago. For instance, numerous objects that are used in the original tradition are lost or renewed
and/or replaced. The narrator tells that Because so much of the ritual had been forgotten or discarded,

Important Developments in the Humanities During the Early,High and Late Middle Ages
The study of humanities allows us to explore the ways in which the changing concepts of nature and
the individual differ in each historical period and helps us to characterize the important developments
of each period. Examining specific works of the Middle Ages enables us to describe our views of the
changes that occur and helps to explain how and why the concepts evolved the way they did. The
Middle Ages provided a unique chapter in the history of the humanistic tradition.

In the legal and social realm, the Magna Carta was one of the first documents in history to guarantee
rights and freedoms for the common people. The document which is the foundation of our liberties ,
the Magna Carta was truly a remarkable new idea in the beginning of the rise out of the feudal system.
For the first time, subjects of the King were demanding certain rights, which were never even thought
of as rights before this document was drafted in 1215 C.E. Lastly, technology itself was setting the
stage for the dawning of the age of exploration. All of these developments as well as others would set
the stage for man s great awakening out of the Middle Ages and his renaissance soon to come.
Gothic architecture dominated the architectural style of Western Europe for over 400 years. The
Gothic style was not only used in Churches but it also was seen in whole towns. Gothic architects
designed courthouses, hospitals, town halls and royal palaces. It was in its churches where we see the
amazing glorification of God and the intentional subordination of man with the advent of this style.
The transcendental character of medieval religious architecture was given a special form in the Gothic
church. Medieval man considered himself but an imperfect ‘refraction of the Divine Light of God,
Whose temple on earth, according to the text of the dedication ritual, stood for the Heavenly City of

How to Be a Wedding Planner
You are getting married congratulations! I am sure you know that the next step will be planning your
wedding. I know that sounds daunting, but please do not worry. Planning a wedding is easy. I want
you to just close your eyes and imagine what your day will resemble. You will step into your dress and

Great ideas for you to have your wedding can be at the Beach, A Castle, or even a hotel. If you know it
s going to rain than I would suggest not having it at a beach unless you want to get your dress and hair
wet. Always have a backup plan that way if anything may go wrong you will not be too stress out on
you
The final step is buying your big ticket items. Getting your dress can make it feel that it is really going
to happen. Bring your idea book with you when you are looking at dress. The wedding agent can even
see what you are looking for and help you with some suggestions on what type of dresses will look
great on you. I would suggest that you bring your shoes and hair piece with you so you get the best
idea how the dress will look. I know that picking dresses may seem daunting but bring a person that
you trust and respect their opinion. Don t forget your bride maid s dresses and your groom s tuxedos.
Another big ticket item is flowers. Talk to your florist about what you want and arrange them to do the
rest of the work. This can be a load taken off your mind knowing that this is taken care of and will be
delivered to your wedding on the day or the day before. Buying materials either in person or online
should be done early on. You don t want to be waiting for them when your day is drawing near. Being

Another risk is an organizational risk. This type of risk occurs when the management commitment,
political expectations, or legislative requirements to complete the project are impacted because the
project does not proceed. This type of risk looks very bad on the organizations and makes the
stakeholders question what type of organization they have invested in. Then you have technical risks.
These risks are associated with maintaining skilled staff, hardware and software dependencies,
application software, other infrastructure needs, and security vulnerabilities and safeguards (hhs.gov).
This type of risk affects the organization is a major way. If not handled in a proper manner, the
organization can be destroyed. The organization has to realize that the stakeholders are looking at this
very closely. They want to know that the organization is serious about the staff and that they are
skilled enough to handle what goes on in the organization. It is also important that no one is giving out
improper information. In order to mitigate these risks, the organization needs to have proper

The Problem Of The Food Industry
As you pick up that bag of chips from the store, do you ever think about what the food industry has

sad thing about this is that it s true, they are not lying. Now, did Lays actually believe it, or were they
just trying to say something catchy that people could remember? You aren t just getting addicted to the

Consume, consume, consume is what our bodies will be telling us, constantly feeling like we haven t
had enough when in reality, we have. These food cravings, in a lot of ways can be similar to drugs.
Like drugs, you will constantly want more, and when you quit that certain substance you will start to
feel withdrawals. Although the effect is not as severe as drug withdrawal. If you eat large amounts of a
food a day, your body will get used to it and even if you aren t hungry, your body will be telling you
that you are. A NY Times article wrote this, The mathematical model maps out the ingredients to the

Early Twentieth Century Music Analysis
The early twentieth century was filled with violence and progress. However, despite all that was
taking place, the arts still had room to evolve. In the arts, as in other aspects of life, there was an
increased emphasis on pluralism and diversity. In the twentieth century, there were revolts spanning all
areas; but in this essay, I will focus on the musical aspects of them. Composers drew inspiration from
an enormous variety of sources, including folk and popular music; the music of Asia, Africa, and Latin
America; and European art music from the Middle Ages through the nineteenth century. During the
twentieth century, differences among styles were so great that it seems as though composers used
different musical languages, not merely different ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It was begun by Claude Debussy in reaction to the dramatic and dynamic emotionalism of romantic
music. Impressionist music is not something that can be shown to the audience. It is something for the
audience to listen to and create their own particular atmosphere. For example, Debussy s Voiles blur
harmony with depictions of outdoor scenes or, more generally, with establishing correspondences
between the aural and the visual. Debussy stressed tone color, atmosphere, and fluidity; elements that
are essential to impressionism. Neoclassicism is a trend in which composers sought to return to
aesthetic precepts associated with the broadly defined concept of classicism , namely order, balance,
clarity, economy, and emotional restraint. Surprisingly, neoclassicism music reached back to the
Classical era for some of its inspiration. Igor Stravinsky s Pulcinella is a famous neoclassicism work
that encompassed the essence of the previous era. Stravinsky s neoclassical works emphasize restraint,

Homer s Connotations On Lilies Of The Field
On the very first page of Lilies of the Field, Homer s mother describes him as 2/3 amiable and 1/3
plain devil. After those first few pages, Homer grew gradually and dramatically in the way that he
interacted with others. It is noticeable in how he thinks of his work with the nuns. At first, he simply
wanted to do them a favor, but it soon changed to wanting to escape, and then finally accepting and
enjoying his experience. Even though Homer is Baptist, I saw his spiritual being grow as quickly as
the chapel did. During the last week of summer, I began my annotations on Lilies of the Field. I have a

To be honest, I don t think I have made a substantial influence to anyone yet; I only thing I notice is

something I say, though. As I was writing my annotations, I was also watching The Hobbit for the first
time. I didn t notice a relationship between Lilies of the Field and The Hobbit, until I began writing
this essay. The nuns changed Homer the same way that the ring transformed Smeagol, just in opposite
ways. While Homer switched into a kind, more faithful person, Smeagol turned into a miserly goblin.
I noticed that not all influence is good, and I must sieve out negative and selfish influences to become
a better follower of God. Pursuing God s word will bring a transformation to you and the people
around you, and straying from it will bring about sorrow; this is evident in Homer s story, and
everyone s story. I feel that I can relate to Lilies of the Field, even though I treated it like work. It
offers much to think about and a message of trust in those you love, along with following God s path.

Nintendo History Essay
Part I Gaming Console Industry Pre Xbox
Video gaming: A Brief History
Atari pioneered the video game industry in 1971 with a title called Pong, which was sold as an arcade
game for $1,200 each. The console market did not take off until 1977, when Atari 2600 was launched
(Lipson, 2009) and this became the first generation of consoles. In the videogame industry, consoles
are primarily stationary boxes , which require a monitor or television set for use. Known as consoles
or platforms, these devices are standardized computers tailored for gaming and produced by a single
firm. The term generations is meant to define chapters in the industry denoted by a series of console
launches with significant technology improvement compared to the previous launches (Exhibit 1).

However, Nintendo s lead was severely diminished in the fifth generation era, where it lost to Sony
due to its inability in adapting to the shift in gamer demographics. The average age of gamers had
gone up; however, Nintendo s image was still very much a kid friendly game console, allowing Sony
to capture most of the older gamers. Sales were down from 50M units in the Super NES console line
to 30M in the Nintendo 64 console line, Nintendo s product in the fifth generation. Nintendo was also
disadvantaged by its higher royalty charge to software developers, resulting in lower number of game

Of Culture In Richard Rodriguez sBlaxicans And Other...
Culture is the way a person acts, reacts, and thinks; it is the part of a person that never stays the same
it is malleable. The real life example of culture would be a fire, the more you add to it the bigger it
grows. This idea of the fire can be analyzed in Richard Rodriguez s essay, Blaxicans and other
Reinvented Americans, in which the author writes about America combining cultures through the
natural process of assimilation. It is also touched upon in Anand Giridharadas A Tale of Two Americas
that cultures can influence people. In Blaxicans and Other Reinvented Americans and A Tale of Two
Americas , both Richard Rodriguez and Anand Giridharadas show that immigrants have helped add to
the American culture by having a diverse community which allows the influence of different cultures.
In Blaxicans and other Reinvented Terms Rodriguez argues that Americans are able to combine
cultures by having a diverse community which allows the influence of different cultures. One example
of this would be an anecdote Richard Rodriguez gave about a young girl who combined the culture of
her parents, because her father was African American and her mom was Mexican The girl said
Blaxican by reinventing language, she is reinventing America (188 190). Based on this evidence this
little girl added a new term to America which is Blaxican . The parents were from different
backgrounds and decided to interact with each other and the girl is a result of their interactions. Since

One of the goals he achieved was finally finishing a device that hacks into phone lines to make free

showing that he achieved his goal to earn money and use that money to go to college and learn about

success were all achievements that he had finished during his lifetime.
Steve Wozniak s career was full of traveling and excitement. Steve Wozniak attended so many

The Advent of Imperialism Essay
The Advent of Imperialism
We live in a world today in which the consequences of nineteenth century Western imperialism are
still being felt. By about 1914 Western civilization reached the high point of its long standing global
expansion. This expansion in this period took many forms. There was, first of all, economic
expansion. Europeans invested large sums of money abroad, building railroads and ports, mines and
plantations, factories and public utilities. Trade between nations grew greatly and a world economy
developed. Between 1750 and 1900 the gap in income disparities between industrialized Europe and
America and the rest of the world grew at an astounding rate. Part of this was due, first, to ... Show

Competition for trade, superior military force, European power politics, and a racist belief in European
superiority were among the most important. Some Europeans bitterly criticized imperialism as a
betrayal of Western ideals of freedom and equality.
Western imperialism produced various reactions in Africa and Asia. The first response was simply to
try to drive the foreigners away. The general failure of this traditionalist response then led large
masses to accept European rule, which did bring some improvements. A third response was the
modernist response of Western educated natives, who were repelled by Western racism and attracted
by Western ideals of national independence and economic progress. Thus, imperialism and reactions
to it spread Western civilization to non Western lands.
The great test of Western Imperialism is Asia, where vast peoples live, the inheritors of civilisations as
complex as our own, more ancient and more firmly rooted by enduring custom in the general life. The
races of Africa it has been possible to regard as savages or children, backward in their progress along
the same general road of civilisation in which Anglo Saxondom represents the vanguard, and requiring
the help of more forward races. It is not so easy to make a specious case for Western control over
India, China, and other Asiatic peoples upon the same ground. Save in the more recent

Kubla Khan
#8220;Kubla Khan #8221; by Samuel Taylor Coleridge is a poem about the creative powers of the
poetic mind. Through the use of vivid imagery Coleridge reproduces a paradise like vision of the
landscape and kingdom created by Kubla Khan. The poem changes to the 1st person narrative and the
speaker then attempts to recreate a vision he saw. Through the description of the visions of Kubla
Khan #8217;s palace and the speaker #8217;s visions the poem tells of the creation of an enchanting
beautiful world as the result of power of human imagination. The second part of the poem reveals that
although the mind has the ability to create this paradise like world it is tragically unable to sustain this
world. It is believed that #8220;Kubla ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The river metaphorically represents nature as the source of life of all mans creation. As men cannot
measure these caverns, the poet can not completely comprehend the power and dimension of natures
influence on poetry but is dependent on it. In the second stanza the poem shifts focus from the perfect
#8220;pleasure dome #8221; created by #8220;Kubla Khan #8221; to the tumultuous landscape that
surrounds it. The #8220;sunny spots of greenery #8221; in Khan #8217;s realm in the first stanza are
interrupted with the exclamation of #8220;But Oh! #8221; and the reader is exposed to a vision of a
#8220;deep romantic chasm #8221;. This landscape is described with extremely contrasting
adjectives. It is #8220;savage #8221;, but it is #8220;holy #8221; and #8220;enchanted #8221;. The
enchantment is compared to that of a #8220;woman wailing for her demon lover. #8221; This sexual
image gives an impression of the earth as mourning for the fulfillment of an evil urge. This chasm
below the paradise of Kubla #8217;s #8220;pleasure dome #8221; is plagued with #8220;ceaseless
turmoil #8221; or chaos. The result of this turmoil upon the earth is further personified as the earth

Analysis Of The Book American Psycho By Bret Easton Ellis
American Psycho is a novel written by Bret Easton Ellis in 1991. The book details the life and
subsequent descent into madness of yuppie investment banker Patrick Bateman. Bateman appears to
everyone as charming young man but is also possibly one of the most vicious serial killers in
American history (whether Bateman committed the murders is left ambiguous). It takes place at the
height of the Reagan era in Manhattan and is primarily a critique of the vapid and capitalist society
that Bateman resides in. Ellis criticizes various aspects of American culture through both the actions
and thoughts of Patrick Bateman and those around him. Bateman acts as symbol of the death of ones
humanity that occurs in a superficial and nihilistic post modern society. The things that are critiqued
the most in this novel are materialism, conformity, superficiality, and the depravity of man. One of the
most prevalent aspects of society criticized by this novel is the depravity of man. Ellis portrays
American society as a place rife with violence and horror yet is also desensitized to it. For example
this is summarized perfectly on page 4 when Timothy Price (a friend of Bateman) looks through a
newspaper and says the following: In one issue in One issue let s see here... strangled models, babies
thrown from tenement rooftops, kids killed in the subway, a Communist rally, Mafia boss wiped out,
Nazis he flips through the pages excitedly baseball players with AIDS, more Mafia shit, gridlock,

Research Paper On Hezbollah
The Islamic terrorist group that I have selected for this discussion is Hezbollah. The reason is that it is
one of the best funded, organized and lethal terrorists groups in the world. They have attacked several
American facilities in the Middle East, embassies, strategic military points, etc. They have been
funded by the government of Iran but they are also supported by other Islamic groups and nations;
Hamas, one of the most important political parties in Palestine also supports Hezbollah and considers
it its military arm. To the American military bases that surround Iran and that are ready to defend the
American interests in the region, Hezbollah represents one of the biggest concerns (Lahoud, 2010).

Ingvar Kamprad vs Steve Jobs Essay
Ingvar Kamprad and Steve Jobs are two people that have set their footmark forever on this planet.
Ingvar Kamprad is founder of the great furniture empire, IKEA. Steve Jobs is best known as one of
the co founders of Apple, the most valuable company on earth. Both these business gurus are huge
role models of mine and have definitely changed my way of thinking in several ways.
Mr. Kamprad could be any 85 year old white man with his faded coat, tinted prescription glasses and
scuffed shoes; he looks like just another pensioner scraping by on a tight budget. Even though Steve
Jobs left us as a 65 year old, together with his famous black mock turtleneck, blue mom jeans and
cheap tennis shoes, they both shared a simple way of dressing. ... Show more content on

Steve dropped college after only one semester and started to take a few part time jobs. In 1975, he
worked for a video/computer company but suddenly decided for a 7 months trip to India in search of
spiritual enlightenment. He came back to the US and started to experiment with psychedelics and
according to a book, Steve called his LSD experiences one of the two or three most important things
done in my life. After experimenting, he went back to the video/computer company and worked there
once again. Steve and his computer friend Stephen Wozniak shared the same passion for computers
and after they assembled their first computer, Apple Computer Company was born. The company was
born in Steve´s garage 1976, and they continued to build several computers. People were hired,
upgrades to bigger facilities were made and salesmen went great. Four years after Apples birth the
company was worth $200 million. After a dispute between Steve and his employees, his own creation
fired him. In revenge he started another computer company called NeXT and also bought the famous
animation studio Pixar which he shaped from only being a simple dough to the most delightful pastry.
Unlike Pixar, NeXT went bad but so did Apple. Steve convinced Apple to buy NeXT in order to
compete with Microsoft and years after that he returned to Apple as a CEO and turned the company
into what it is today, the most valuable company in the world (Internet). On the

Understanding Schizophrenia and Psychosis
Schizophrenia and Psychotherapy Schizophrenia is a psychiatric disorder differentiated by
degeneration of thought processes and of emotional reaction. It is characterized by auditory
hallucinations, delusions, or disorganized speech and thought process along with considerable social
or occupational dysfunction. Onset of symptoms is usually during early adulthood. Diagnosis is based
on DSM IV criteria for diagnosis of Schizophrenia (PubMed, 2010). It mainly affects the cognition
but behavior and emotion can also be involved. Schizophrenics can have certain coexisting conditions
such as major depression and anxiety disorders. These cognitive, emotional and behavioral problems
can lead to secondary problems like unemployment, academic difficulties and social issues.
Schizophrenics have higher tendency to suicide than general population which makes their life
expectancy 15 years less than the general population. The average life expectancy of people with the
disorder is 12 to 15 years less than those without, the result of increased physical health problems and
a higher suicide rate (about 5%). Following are the classification of Schizophrenia according to DSM
IV Manual Paranoid type: delusions, hallucinations without affecting the thought behavior, and
cognition. (DSM code 295.3/ICD code F20.0) Disorganized type: Though disorder and flat affect
(DSM code 295.1/ICD code F20.1) Catatonic type: Agitated, purposeless movements, occasional
immobility, catatonic stupor

Compare And Contrast Zheng He And Magellan
Zheng He and Ferdinand Magellan led two very different expeditions due to a number of factors
including resources and the treatment of natives. Both men were strong leaders, although they both
had different trust levels with their commanders. Zheng He had plentiful resources, although he was
not as cautious with resources as he could be. Magellan started his journey with very little, probably
leading to his demise. Overall, Zheng He and Magellan started with varying levels of resources and
trust from the start of their expeditions leading to their outcomes. In 1405, Zheng He embarked on a
series of expeditions to find and develop new trade routes along the Indian Ocean. The Chinese
government provided the funding. To do this, he would have

Stranger And Fiction By Harold Crick
Harold Crick in Stranger Than Fiction is a man who starts and ends every day the same way for
twelve years. He starts off each day by brushing his teeth seventy six times. He leaves for the bus at
the same time each day calculating his steps. However, Harold was brushing his teeth on an average
Wednesday and he heard a voice. He did not know where the voice was coming from; eventually, he
concluded the voice was a narrator in his head. The voice in Harold s head changed his life forever.
The voice is narrating every aspect of his life, until she says he is going to die. Harold now realizes
that he is a main character of a book. He knows that if the narrator wants him to die, he will because
everything else she says is true. Harold reflects on the way he has been living his life. Harold gets up
and follows the same routine every day; it is obvious he is a bit obsessive compulsive. He notices that
the way he has been living his life is boring. Harold realizes he doesn t want to live like this anymore
and is going to find out whom the narrator is. Harold breaks out of his daily routine to track down the
narrator. He did not miss a day of work for twelve years and now is taking time off to get to the
bottom of this. Harold is walking without counting his steps and no longer lives in solitude. Instead of
living at home, Harold is living with a friend. He spends every day meeting with the professor trying
to figure out who is narrating his life. In the meantime, he is doing

Origins Of The Walking Dead
Photo Essay
Origins of The Walking Dead
For my ethnography project, I chose to study the fandom of The Walking Dead. For the purpose of
this paper, I will refer to The Walking Dead as a comic, a video game, and a TV show series. The
focus of this ethnography is to understand how the comic book culture influences many fans. Since the
series is based on a graphic novel series, and some of the fans are schooled in comic culture; they
arrive with literacy in comic storytelling. Others who are not fans may recognize the visually and
narrative of zombie films, in the horror genre after 1968 s Night of the Living Dead and Dawn of the
Dead. Yet many Walking Dead fans appear to have migrated to the zombie tale without any particular
connection to the comic book storytelling, or significant fascination, and the series fandom illuminates
how an apocalyptic imagination has expanded into popular culture.
The Walking Dead fandom has changed by geek standard. The Walking Dead has nearly all the classic
of the 21st century geek fandom: in this picture, it shows you the evolution of graphic imaginary has
changed to attracted plenty of fans. The rating success has produce games, cars, and toys of the
Walking Dead. The narrative extends over a vast range of official principles and the fan forms alike:
its marketing team reaches out into nearly every popular culture. The fandom appears to extend well
beyond the stereotype of comic book nerds. Most fans attention of The

The Disputed Island Territories within the South China Sea and the Subsequent Buildup of Naval

The territorial disputes in the South China Sea have been a minor ongoing issue with multiple
sovereign states, most notably Brunei, the Peoples Republic of China, the Republic of China,
Malaysia, the Philippines and Vietnam, claiming overlapping territory in the Spratly Islands, Paracel
Islands and the area around the Gulf of Tonkin. The overlapping claims began in 1876 with China s
earliest documented claim to the islands ( Territorial Disputes, 2015). However, more recently these
same nations have begun to be more aggravate aggressive in their claims and the issue is now on the
center stage in world maritime affairs. With each of these ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This idea of self preservation is essential to any sovereign state, and all take a similar stance on
national security as the United States. One of protection. In order to accomplish this it is necessary for
states to be able to implement goals on an international stage, thus requiring a certain amount of
power. When it comes to the issue of obtaining power, two major methods become apparent. The
control over space and the control over physical place. Both of these options available to states focus
on power as Condign (based on force), Compensatory (the use of various resources) or Conditioned
(result of persuasion), and their sources as Personality (individuals) and Property (their material
resources) (Galbraith, 1983).
Concepts of Power
The first method is a more modern approach. Power via influence over territory instead of direct
ownership has become the field which most modern day nations find themselves fighting. While
control over place allows for direct manipulation, it is more costly than power through the use of
space . This method has been used since the early 20th century as nations begin to realize that physical
control of land is not essential. Instead countries can influence one another through things such as
control over essential commodities, trade routes or political influence. Even with this being a more,
politically correct, approach to control and involves less direct management, it is difficult to dispute
the obvious advantages physical

Nightcrawler Film Analysis
One Scene: Camera Decisions and Sound Design of Nightcrawler A nightcrawler is someone that
listens to police scanners and follows the calls to the location to get footage of the situation and sells
the clips to news broadcasting stations. The movie, Nightcrawler is about a specific nightcrawler
named, Louis Bloom, and he doesn t follow the rules like most; he will trustpass just to get a better
angle, or perspective that he could sell. The movie starts out with Louis stealing copper and steel to a
construction company, and then he asks the customer for a job, but rejected for being a thief. The
scene cuts to him driving at night, when he pulls over at the scene of a crash where the police are
trying to save the woman stuck in her on fire vehicle. A van pulls up next to Louis car and two guys
run out with cameras to film the police call. After they were done filming the main camera man, Joe,
calls a news station where he sells his clips, and Louis overhears this. Being a conman himself he
starts talking prices with Joe, setting the mood for the next scene. In the next scene he is sitting on a
bench, on the Los Angeles boardwalk, next to a bike rack when a biker parks his expensive looking
bike. Then the next scene he trades the bike, at a pawn shop, for a camera and a police scanner. Once
he gets into nightcrawling he wants to hire someone to make it more efficient to get to the police
scene. The movie Nightcrawler has many people in the sound department and I believe

Pearl Harbor Research Paper
The event that brought forth the Idea to attack japan and destroy the cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki
was Pearl Harbor. Japan had a history of executing surprise attacks before declaring war; one main
example is when japan invaded Port Arthur in the Russo Japanese war which would prove to be very
successful . Many books were written prior to 1941 predicting an invasion of the Hawaiian Islands to
gain access to the United States mainland including The conflict of nations , and The valor of
ignorance . The United States saw the military base on Hawaii as a point of power in the pacific and a
last defense of their home land. Japan saw Hawaii as at point of expansion and an easy way for the
United States to launch an attack on them. Attacking Pearl Harbor was not the original plan for japan.
Japan wanted to bring the United States to them, but Japanese commander in Chief Isoroku Yamomoto
pushed for an attack on the United States .pearl harbor was the home to the United States naval fleet
and many fuel reserves. One of the main objects of japan was to destroy aircraft carriers and sink
battle ships to put the United States fleet out of action and to discourage the people of the United
States to not join the World War. The Japanese army spent over a year planning the attack and training
pilots. The Japanese even created special torpedoes to operate in pear harbors shallow waters .
Once it came time for the execution of the plan, the Japanese sent all six of their aircraft

A Comparative Evaluation Of Private Cloud Computing,...
Author: James Madden B.Sc. Hons Title: A Comparative Evaluation of Private Cloud Computing,
Automated Provisioning, Deployment and Monitoring Comparing VMware vCloud Director
Orchestrator Vs Microsoft s System Centre Orchestrator Private cloud automation is a process where
the IT administrator may write scripts which automatically trigger events in response to certain criteria
being reached. It may be a new user requesting the provisioning of a desktop, it may be an alert
indicating a malfunction or failure of hardware or services, and it may be the monitoring and charge
back for the usage of a service. As a result of these requirements the deployment of an Orchestrator
comes highly recommended for the automation, instead of the administrator spending maybe hours
writing and testing scripts, the Orchestrator allows the administrator to drag and drop the relevant
graphics onto a canvas and then run it in the integrated test process prior to deployment into live
operation. This dissertation aims to comparatively analyse and evaluate the implementation regarding
the performance, cost reduction through reduced administration and usability of the two competing
provider s solutions, namely, VMware vCloud Director Orchestrator and Microsoft System Centre
Orchestrator. The scope of this study compared the performance and efficiency of both platforms,
although the cost saving in administrative time required is closely matched between the two platforms
the performance and

  • 2. Henri Mintzbergs Model On Organizational Structures Mintzbergs Model on Organisational Structures The Five Parts This note summarises the key features of Henri Mintzbergs theory on the structuring of organisations, which he presented in his book The Structuring of Organisations and Structure in 5 s: Designing Effective Organizations in the early 1980s. According to Mintzberg organisations are formed of five main parts: Operating core Those who perform the basic work related directly to the production of products and services Strategic apex Charged with ensuring that the organisation serve its mission in an effective way, and also that it serve the needs of those people who control or otherwise have power over the organisation Middle line managers Form a chain joining the ... Professional Bureaucracy The professional bureaucracy relies for coordination on: * the standardization of skills and its associated parameters such as design, training and indoctrination. * In professional bureaucracy type structures duly trained and indoctrinated specialists professionals are hired for the operating core, and then considerable control over their work is given to them. * Most of the necessary coordination between the operating professionals is handled by the standardization of skills and knowledge especially by what they have learned to expect from their colleagues. Whereas the machine bureaucracy generates its own standards the standards of the professional bureaucracy originate largely outside its own structure (especially in the self governing association its operators join with their colleagues from other professional bureaucracies). The professional bureaucracy emphasizes authority of a professional nature or in other words the power of expertise . Present the optimal results of a well prepared and well delivered performance appraisal. *If the company establishes a well prepared and well delivered performance appraisal, what are the best results the company can expect? (employee prospective and company perspective are good here) Performance appraisals are a tool that most companies use when assessing their employees. A well prepared and well delivered performance appraisal can be beneficial to both the employee and the company. The company benefits in many different ways when they deliver this type of performance appraisal. The performance appraisal process ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... (suggestion: ongoing activities and in the time proximal to the performance review) It is important to make time for pre appraisal activities to make sure that the benefits are at max potential. It will hurt the chances of maximizing gains for both the company and the employee if the following activities are not done beforehand. The most important thing when it comes to being ready for the performance appraisal is being well prepared. The manager needs to make sure that he sets aside enough time to perform the pre appraisal activities. These activities include establishing a time for the appraisal and relating it to the employee, making sure to lay out all new and old goals for the employee, giving the employee an advance copy of the review, collecting the employee s review of themselves, and collecting all notes taken that may validate your points and emphasize your decisions as well as the last performance appraisal. It is important to make sure that the employee has enough time to prepare for the appraisal. This allows for quality feedback from them and will also lead to quality questions. In order to make it the most beneficial appraisal possible, then both sides need to be well prepared. Goals and expectations will be completely understood if both parties have an idea of what s expected of them. The employee can have questions ready for things that they may not understand. • 4. Alliances During World War 1 Essay Alliances During World War 1 Although there were many underlying reasons for the European nations to break out in war, the early days of the fighting between Serbia and Austria caused the expansion of the war, along with the alliances which failed to remain peace and actually contributed to the war. Also, the possibility of remaining neutral and prepared is always another alternative, rather than forming allies that may require the nation to enter a war. A war between Serbia and Austria caused 7 nations to enter the fighting, justified by the reason of supporting alliances previously formed and underlying conflicts. Initially, World War I was spurred by the assassination of Arch Duke Ferdinand of Austria on June 28th of 1914 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... By the end of all of the formations of alliances two powers emerged, the Allies, which consisted of Great Britain, France, Serbia, Russia, and Belgium, and the Central Powers which was Germany, Austria Hungary, and then later joined by Bulgaria and Turkey. These alliances did not maintain the peace in the least bit because if a war were to break out, it would involve all of the greater powers of Europe since the members of each group would feel the only right thing to do would be to support one another during the war. The alliances themselves actually contributed to the war because they caused more and more nations to enter the war as it progressed. The alliances formed ties between the nations that required them to support a country during a time of need, which in this case was war. The possibility of remaining neutral but prepared is always an option in time of war, although it may not work out that way. Several countries remained neutral, such as America, until the Germans declared unrestricted submarine warfare, causing the need to join the war. The Netherlands also remained neutral, along with the Dutch who opened their doors for Belgian refugees. Also, the Dutch sent food and clothes to the remaining Belgians as far as the Germans allowed them to. Those countries remained neutral, however they were not necessarily prepared for war. Remaining neutral yet prepared is a hard strategy to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. The Incorporation Of Music In The Middle Ages Music has always been apart of my life ,from the tender age of six years old we have ever been apart. The art form of musical arts will forever intrigue me and compel me to push myself to my musical limit. The history of the evolution of music through the centuries is quite alluring. The formulation of musical intellectually concepts and leaps of faith that composers at the time took, is in my opinion of standing ovation recognition. The development of music from the time line in the middle ages(450 1450) was known for incorporation of music in the church that was done by the monks. As I listened to the pieces of music done by the monks, their music known to be Gregorian chant, it really embodies serenity and the sacred intent for the music. The resonation of the voices compliment the simplicity of the monophonic arrangement of the chant. The use of the male voices gives a richness in texture to the chant.Later on in the century there was the incorporation of chants composed by women, that explore the wider vocal ranges. In my view the musical genius gene was not exclusive to just men alone this was clearly seen with the composer Hildegard of Bingen. Her pieces of music was visionary ... • 7. Contradictions Of Imperialism In George Orwell s Shooting... Shooting an Elephant by George Orwell is a narrative essay that tells about a time that he had to kill an elephant, but he had many challenges when deciding to do so. Orwell had situations that he had to go through, and he also had to make very contemplating choices within himself. It s almost as if the elephant s death determined his fate. In Shooting an Elephant Orwell states, I was young and ill educated and I had had to think out my problems in the utter silence that is imposed on every Englishmen in the East. (page 1) This hints that Orwell will obviously come into some predicaments that will determine the state of his manhood. Orwell had several occasions where he contradicted himself and his beliefs. These contradictions involved Imperialism, the Burmese people, and killing the elephant. In Shooting an Elephant Orwell contradicts himself about Imperialism. In the essay Imperialism is well influenced in Burma. Orwell is a British police officer sent to Burma to enforce imperialism among the Burmese people. At the time Orwell is very young and has no experience in his position as a police officer. Soon after he got to Burma he begins to despise his job. Almost everyday he had to witness prisoners in filthy cages and men tortured. He felt that he was doing the dirty work of the government. Orwell emotions went into an uproar and he begins to feel a sense of hatred for Imperialism. Orwell says Imperialism is an evil thing but he still works to enforce its mission. This can be very confusing because he hates the job that he has to do, how he is treated because of his job, and what people think of him because of what he is working for. Orwell futhers to contradict himself and the maturity of his manhood with his relationship with the Burmese people. When he finally arrives he is hated and taunted by the Burmese people. He would be humiliated in front of crowds at football games and young men would sneer at him every chance they would get. Orwell also says he would feel a great joy to drive a bayonet into a Buddhist priest s guts. This statement would make the reader believe he hates the Burmese. At this point in the essay Orwell starts to contradict himself again by secretly expressing a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Summary Of A Red Rose By Robert Burns Robert Burns A Red Red Rose On the romanticism era Robert Burns wrote the poem named A Red Red Rose. In this poem Burns writes about his love for a girl and how strong and deep it is for her, as he says I will love thee still my dear, till a the seas gang dry. Robert Burns was born on January 25th, 1759 in Alloway Scotland. Parents William Burns and Agnes Broun, his parents were farmers, though they lived in that life of farming they wanted their son Robert Burns to have and receive a good education and when he started getting the education they wanted him to have, burns also started to read more and started to have a huge place in his heart for poetry. Burns father died in 1784 in bankruptcy and then bruns and his brother Gilbert took over the farm, but that didn t stop him from reading and getting influenced by different famous people. He was influenced by different poets like Alexander Pope, Henry Mackenzie, and Laurence Sterne; His hard physical labour on the family is what increasingly turned his attention toward the passion of poetry. Robert Burns turned his full attention to poetry after what happened with his family and at age of fifteen he fell in love and wrote his first poem, burns pursued both love and poetry. In 1785 he fathered the first of his fourteen children and between 1784 and 1785 burns collected in his first collection which was Chiefly in the Scottish Dialect and was printed in 1786 and was also paid for by subscriptions. That poem was immediately one of the best and robert was celebrated throughout England and Scotland as a great peasant poet. He wrote many more poems and later in 1788 he got married to Jean Armour and fathered twins, but a split in their marriage nearly led to burns moving to the west indies with his other lover Mary Campbell, later with Mary s sudden death and his sensational success of his first published collection that kept him in scotland, burns became very known and famous across the country of scotland at just 27 years old. Burns would not only make poems but would also sometimes turn them into songs and give them for someone to perform. • 9. Persuasion Case Study Muharrem Salel Oct 10,2017 ACWR 101.6 1st Essay 1st Draft TITLE In today s societies every member of society connected with others. They affect each other with their opinions or behaviors. In this environment, people want to have an influence on others with persuading them. Robert Cialdini shows us how important the persuasion in our relationships. Persuasion is inducing someone to do something through reasoning or argument. In his book, Influence: The psychology of persuasion, he indicates that our decision making depends on shortcuts and fast decisions more than critical thinking with considering all information. He identified these six shortcuts as Reciprocity, Scarcity, Authority, Consistency, Social Proof and Liking. In the case study, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Almost our all communications with others include these tactics but they are hard to detect because they are a natural part of relations. In these relations sometimes we are the side that tries to persuade others and sometimes reverse. Any people can give you a memory any of this two side. As a memory of being persuaded I had a remarkable memory. It was my first day in Istanbul and I was very excited about it. I came to Istanbul with the bus because all planes were full. When I came to the bus station I saw plenty of sellers who were annoyingly insistent. My goal was going to metro station without stopping to talk to them because I knew that I would try hard to sell me something if I stop. Unfortunately, I could not reach my goal and one of these sellers stopped me. He said that he sells original perfumes and his perfumes are export surpluses this is why they are so cheap. He asked my homeland and he said he is from there too which I am very sure that is a lie. Also, he said that he had only three perfumes to sell so it was my last chance to buy one. It was very annoying and I bought one perfume because I want to get rid of him. Or at least I thought that way. After reading Cialdini s book and his persuasion tactics I realize that the seller used these tactics on me very masterly even though he seems uneducated. Even though I thought that I bought that perfume to get rid of him, I can see now that he convinced ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. The Mechanics And Technicality Based Conceptual... Module three was probably the most complex modules that we have encountered this semester for me. I viewed this module as the mechanics and technicality based conceptual understanding of consumer behavior. We recognize that consumer behavior isn t just static, but is much more in tune with the complexity that is the Human mind. This module to me represented the consumer coming to the final stage of the consumption process and becoming aware that a final decision is eminent. When I look back at my purchases I think how much went into buying an item or service and actually getting to that point where I have made that final purchase. It s interesting the one thing that spurs my whole consumption process is when I have told myself that I really want something, I need something, or I have to have something. • 11. Archetype In Shirley Jackson s The Lottery Griffin, Amy A. in his article The lottery asserts that, in shirley jackson s The Lottery A good harvest has always been vital to civilizations. After the fields have been prepared and the seeds sown, the farmer can only wait and hope that the proper balance of rain and sun will ensure a good harvest. From this hope spring ritual. Many ancient cultures believe that growing crops represented the life cycle, beginning with what one associates with the end death. Seeds buried, apparently without hope of germination, represent death, but with the life forces of water and the sun, the seeds grows, representing rebirth, consequently, ancient peoples began sacrificial rituals to emulate this resurrection cycle. What began as a vegetation ritual developed into a cathartic cleansing of an entire tribe or village. By transferring one s sins to person or animals and then sacrificing them, people believe that their sins would be eliminated, a process that has been termed the scapegoat archetype ( guerin et al. 158). In her short story The Lottery Shirley Jackson uses this archetype to build on man s inherent need for such ritual. (44). There are several details given about the villagers tradition. It s not the same tradition as it was a long time ago. For instance, numerous objects that are used in the original tradition are lost or renewed and/or replaced. In the arts, as in other aspects of life, there was an increased emphasis on pluralism and diversity. Composers drew inspiration from an enormous variety of sources, including folk and popular music; the music of Asia, Africa, and Latin America; and European art music from the Middle Ages through the nineteenth century. The real life example of culture would be a fire, the more you add to it the bigger it grows. This idea of the fire can be analyzed in Richard Rodriguez s essay, Blaxicans and other Reinvented Americans, in which the author writes about America combining cultures through the natural process of assimilation. It is also touched upon in Anand Giridharadas A Tale of Two Americas that cultures can influence people. In Blaxicans and Other Reinvented Americans and A Tale of Two Americas , both Richard Rodriguez and Anand Giridharadas show that immigrants have helped add to the American culture by having a diverse community which allows the influence of different cultures. By about 1914 Western civilization reached the high point of its long standing global expansion. This expansion in this period took many forms. There was, first of all, economic expansion. Europeans invested large sums of money abroad, building railroads and ports, mines and plantations, factories and public utilities. Trade between nations grew greatly and a world economy developed. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Competition for trade, superior military force, European power politics, and a racist belief in European superiority were among the most important. Some Europeans bitterly criticized imperialism as a betrayal of Western ideals of freedom and equality. Western imperialism produced various reactions in Africa and Asia. The first response was simply to try to drive the foreigners away. The general failure of this traditionalist response then led large masses to accept European rule, which did bring some improvements. A third response was the modernist response of Western educated natives, who were repelled by Western racism and attracted by Western ideals of national independence and economic progress. Thus, imperialism and reactions to it spread Western civilization to non Western lands. The book details the life and subsequent descent into madness of yuppie investment banker Patrick Bateman. Bateman appears to everyone as charming young man but is also possibly one of the most vicious serial killers in American history (whether Bateman committed the murders is left ambiguous). It takes place at the height of the Reagan era in Manhattan and is primarily a critique of the vapid and capitalist society that Bateman resides in. Ellis criticizes various aspects of American culture through both the actions and thoughts of Patrick Bateman and those around him. Bateman acts as symbol of the death of ones humanity that occurs in a superficial and nihilistic post modern society. The things that are critiqued the most in this novel are materialism, conformity, superficiality, and the depravity of man. Both of these options available to states focus on power as Condign (based on force), Compensatory (the use of various resources) or Conditioned (result of persuasion), and their sources as Personality (individuals) and Property (their material resources) (Galbraith, 1983). Concepts of Power The first method is a more modern approach. Power via influence over territory instead of direct ownership has become the field which most modern day nations find themselves fighting. While control over place allows for direct manipulation, it is more costly than power through the use of space . This method has been used since the early 20th century as nations begin to realize that physical control of land is not essential. Instead countries can influence one another through things such as control over essential commodities, trade routes or political influence. Even with this being a more, politically correct, approach to control and involves less direct management, it is difficult to dispute the obvious advantages physical ... Nightcrawler Film Analysis One Scene: Camera Decisions and Sound Design of Nightcrawler A nightcrawler is someone that listens to police scanners and follows the calls to the location to get footage of the situation and sells the clips to news broadcasting stations. The movie, Nightcrawler is about a specific nightcrawler named, Louis Bloom, and he doesn t follow the rules like most; he will trustpass just to get a better angle, or perspective that he could sell. The movie starts out with Louis stealing copper and steel to a construction company, and then he asks the customer for a job, but rejected for being a thief. The scene cuts to him driving at night, when he pulls over at the scene of a crash where the police are trying to save the woman stuck in her on fire vehicle. A van pulls up next to Louis car and two guys run out with cameras to film the police call. After they were done filming the main camera man, Joe, calls a news station where he sells his clips, and Louis overhears this. Being a conman himself he starts talking prices with Joe, setting the mood for the next scene. In the next scene he is sitting on a bench, on the Los Angeles boardwalk, next to a bike rack when a biker parks his expensive looking bike. Then the next scene he trades the bike, at a pawn shop, for a camera and a police scanner. Once he gets into nightcrawling he wants to hire someone to make it more efficient to get to the police scene. The movie Nightcrawler has many people in the sound department and I believe ... • 32. Pearl Harbor Research Paper The event that brought forth the Idea to attack japan and destroy the cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki was Pearl Harbor. Japan had a history of executing surprise attacks before declaring war; one main example is when japan invaded Port Arthur in the Russo Japanese war which would prove to be very successful . Many books were written prior to 1941 predicting an invasion of the Hawaiian Islands to gain access to the United States mainland including The conflict of nations , and The valor of ignorance . The United States saw the military base on Hawaii as a point of power in the pacific and a last defense of their home land. Japan saw Hawaii as at point of expansion and an easy way for the United States to launch an attack on them. Attacking Pearl Harbor was not the original plan for japan. Japan wanted to bring the United States to them, but Japanese commander in Chief Isoroku Yamomoto pushed for an attack on the United States .pearl harbor was the home to the United States naval fleet and many fuel reserves. One of the main objects of japan was to destroy aircraft carriers and sink battle ships to put the United States fleet out of action and to discourage the people of the United States to not join the World War. The Japanese army spent over a year planning the attack and training pilots. The Japanese even created special torpedoes to operate in pear harbors shallow waters . Once it came time for the execution of the plan, the Japanese sent all six of their aircraft ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 33. A Comparative Evaluation Of Private Cloud Computing,... Author: James Madden B.Sc. Hons Title: A Comparative Evaluation of Private Cloud Computing, Automated Provisioning, Deployment and Monitoring Comparing VMware vCloud Director Orchestrator Vs Microsoft s System Centre Orchestrator Private cloud automation is a process where the IT administrator may write scripts which automatically trigger events in response to certain criteria being reached. It may be a new user requesting the provisioning of a desktop, it may be an alert indicating a malfunction or failure of hardware or services, and it may be the monitoring and charge back for the usage of a service. As a result of these requirements the deployment of an Orchestrator comes highly recommended for the automation, instead of the administrator spending maybe hours writing and testing scripts, the Orchestrator allows the administrator to drag and drop the relevant graphics onto a canvas and then run it in the integrated test process prior to deployment into live operation. This dissertation aims to comparatively analyse and evaluate the implementation regarding the performance, cost reduction through reduced administration and usability of the two competing provider s solutions, namely, VMware vCloud Director Orchestrator and Microsoft System Centre Orchestrator. The scope of this study compared the performance and efficiency of both platforms, although the cost saving in administrative time required is closely matched between the two platforms the performance and ...
