Rhetorical Analysis Deborah Tannen
In this excerpt, Deborah Tannen speaks anecdotally about her observations of behavioral and
communicative differences between boys and girls in peer groups that are sex separate. I m going to
assume she s talking about all boys and all girls schools. Deborah Tannen describes girls as typically
inclined to choose one female friend with whom they ll build a strong and exclusive bond that
revolves around secretive conversation. She goes on to generalize boys as being much more willing to
socialize with a broader peer group in the form of playful activities, and to use those activities to
exhibit their skill, verbally express their knowledge, and to establish their rank in a pecking order.
Where Deborah Tannen sees controversy in this is that most ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

That s where I become reluctant to recommend Deborah Tannen s teaching strategy. Looking back on
my public education experience I can think of a lot more exceptions to this description of how boys
and girls use language differently than agreements. Again, I m relying on personal experiences and I
can of course also recall instances where men have dominated a classroom discussion. However, for
me to say that all boys dominated girls during classroom discussions in Phoenix, AZ during the last
stretch of the 20th century or that all girls are reluctant to speak publicly outside of the comfort of
their peer group in Honolulu, HI during the beginning of the 21st century would be disingenuous and
could probably be attributed to an expectancy bias.
Could these statements hold true in a different time, culture or geography? Absolutely. My guess is
that none of the cited researchers whose work this article was predicated upon could have possibly
conceived of a world where, new students that are assigned a questionnaire on Alcohol and Other
Drugs , have six categories to choose from under gender . Though, I have been to plenty of countries
that are ostensibly 20 30 years behind our cultural revolutions where segregation is more prevalent
and gender identity is sufficiently binary to benefit from Deborah s

Achaemenid Empire Analysis
Relief of the northern stairs of the Apadana The relief was carved into the northern stairs of the
Apadana at Persepolis, the capital of the ancient Achaemenid empire, founded by king Darius. The
relief was sponsored by king Darius to show his absolute power. This artifact is significant because it
shows the bureaucracy of Achaemenid empire, suggests the king s absolute power and records the
tradition of proskynesis. First, the relief reflected the bureaucracy of Achaemenid empire. The relief
showed a local official contribute goods to the king. It indicated the complex tax contribute system
that was widely used in Achaemenid empire. The artifact also implied the centralized governing
system that was used by the king. The

The Color Of Color In The Great Gatsby
Throughout the novel, it can be seen that the most common color accompanying with Gatsby is
yellow. With this color, the author skillfully implies what kind of outer self Gatsby intends to show
before others. Yellow is the color of gold, which symbolizes money, materialism and high social
position. First, yellow stands out as the color that represents new money and wealth acquired.
According to Fitzgerald, On week−ends his Rolls−Royce became an omnibus, bearing parties to and
from the city between nine in the morning and long past midnight, while his station wagon scampered
like a brisk yellow bug to meet all trains....The lights grow brighter as the earth lurches away from the
sun, and now the orchestra is playing yellow cocktail music, and the opera of voices pitches a key
higher (Chapter 3, Page 21). Fitzgerald uses gold, a vivid representation of yellow to symbolize the
wealth gained by Gatsby and the immense desire for him to get even more and to show it off to the
entire society. In the light of the following events, it is easy to see how Gatsby is blinded by his love
for Daisy and therefore money. This evidence shows that he buys a large yellow Rolls Royce to show
off his new money. The band at his party plays yellow cocktail music to show his fulsome way of
living and life. Gatsby chooses the yellow color to decorate himself and his house to show that he has
been one member of their class. As Gatsby thinks that Daisy has never loved anyone else any more

Dr. Seuss Research Paper
Dr. Seuss real name is Theodor Seuss Geisel. He was born March 2, 1904, in a small town named
Springfield, Massachusetts. His parents were Theodor Robert Geisel and Henrietta Seuss Geisel. He
gives his mom credit today for his love of rhymes and being able to rhyme so well. He lived a happy
childhood with his parents and his sister and even used some of those memories in his books (Horton
hears a Who and I heard it on Mulberry street). He eventually left home for college at Dartmouth.
Where he and his friends started a humor newspaper named Jack O Lantern that he started drawing
comics in. It was then that he started signing his name Seuss. Sadly, he got kicked off Jack O Lantern

The Influence Of Camels On The Bedouin People
Camels, or dromedaries, are animals that have one or two humps on their backs. The hump is mostly
made out of fat. If the camel has a hard time finding food, the fat in the hump provides energy. When
the camel is starving the hump shrinks. They are large animals that are able to survive in the hot, dry
climate of the desert in the Middle East. They are a very important animal to the Bedouin people of
the desert. They mostly live in the Middle East. The Bedouin people are Arab people who use camels
as their transportation. They travel across the deserts in Africa. They are also nomadic herders. The
Bedouin people have used camels for trade for over three millennia s. They use camels to trade items.

The Red Planet And Space Travel Essay
Humans have been studying space for over two thousand years; whether it be for naming stars,
looking for and creating constellations, studying the moon and its phases, studying other planets in our
solar system; the list goes on. Humans are always interested in space and the many mysteries with it.
Humans love learning more about space so we sent humans to our own moon to help understand more
about space. Yet we had plans to get to Mars four years before we even landed on the moon. How did
we have plans to get to Mars before we even landed on the moon? Wernher von Braun has been
interested in the red planet and space travel since he was in college. Many years after college, Braun
still had his dream of making it to Mars. Braun then wrote a novel in 1949 with plans of traveling to
Mars in 1965. This plan obviously has not happened yet, but humans then gained more interest in the
red planet. Plans of traveling to Mars has been steadily increasing and changing over time; from Braun
s first plans to NASA new plans and the change of technology that has helped us humans get closer to
the dream of stepping foot on the red planet.
We do not know where this journey will end, yet we know this human beings are headed into the
cosmos[space]. Mankind is drawn to the heavens for the same reason we were once drawn into
unknown lands and across the open sea. We chose to explore space because doing so improves our
lives and lifts our national spirit. (Doeden, 10) This quote came from

Most people can agree that Russia is an interesting culture, even if they know very little about it. It has
unique aspects to it, such as its political power, military, food, and even language. The US is
competitors with them, yet neither ever called for war. Russia is a very literate country, one of the
highest in literacy. Russia has so much more to it than its stereotype, such as being known for large
mobsters and mafia groups. Russia is much more than that, and not many people want to learn more or

Tim Thomas Who Is Really Ben
In the movie Tim Thomas who is really Ben is an all around good person who used bad qualities to
help people in need. He impersonated his brother the real Tim Thomas to get close to a woman who
was in need of a heart. He was dealing with the death of his wife, which I believe he blamed himself
for the accident. He took the life of 6 other people in the car including his wife, but he survived. He
wanted to repay his debt to society by donating his organs to those who needed them, and his ultimate
sacrifice ws his heart he gave to Emily. His character changed, because of he used being an IRS agent
to get close to the people he wanted to help.
The real Ben Thomas his brother the real IRS agent tried the entire movie to catch up with him. Being
on the run, and very short with him on the phone Ben was never able to catch up with him until he
started tracking the people Tim inquired about using his credentials. Overall Tim was a good guy who
just wanted to help Ben, but Ben continuously avoided him. Tim s character itself never changed , he
was just concerned about what his brother was doing, and trying everything in his power to help him.
Dan Morris was Tim s best friend he grew up with. He was just there to make his will and keep it
current. I believe he knew Ben s motive, but not to the extent of everything he was doing. He
continues to see Dan and always says keep the promise, and Ben says he will do anything to keep his
promise, and not to back out now. His character pretty

Summary Of Bonanza Episode Day Of Reckoning
Personal Analysis of Bonanza Episode Day of Reckoning I found in this episode countless
connections to what we have been learning in class in regards to the Native Americans and their
encounters with white men. In this particular episode, I observed examples of hostility between both
the white man and Native Americans. Similar to what we had learned in class about the constant
hostility that was present with many white men and Native Americans due to the white man
essentially taking over the Native American s land. I observed how the Native Americans slowly
became like the white man once he was brought into his home. This again reminded me of what we
had learned in class about how Native Americans were encouraged to take up farming, wear clothes
like white men, chop their long hair off to have it short representing the hair of the white men, cook
and prepare food like the white man and live in a home like the white man. These encouragements and
what the white man may have seen as examples of kindness and hospitality were actually uprooting
the Native Americans from their own culture. This is especially true for Matsou, who feels very
strongly about not taking up ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

a connection on an important topic. This emphasis on religion was another topic we discussed in class.
We learned about how the white man s faith was heavily pushed upon the Native American people.
They were encouraged to abandon their own faith and believe solely in what the white man believed
in. This disconnected Native Americans from their culture as they had their own faith that they felt
strongly connected

A Women of Many Struggles
In the short story The Yellow Wallpaper , Charlotte Perkins Gilman, talks about a woman who is
newly married and is a mother who is in depression. The Yellow Wall Paper is written as the secret
journal of a woman who, failing to relish the joys of marriage and motherhood, is sentenced to a
country rest cure. Though she longs to write, her husband doctor forbid it. The narrator feels trapped
by both her husband and surroundings. The woman she sees behind the wallpaper is a symbol of
herself and the Victorian women like her.

When she goes through things when she s writing you can just tell she is being sarcastic. For example
when she says my condition is really serious then I thought. She is very disturbed. The narrator says
she can see a women coming out of the wallpaper. I think she is just seeing herself as she is trying to
break out of the room. Every time she tried to get out of the room her husband or Jennie would be
there to catch her leaving. Therefore that is ironic because not every time someone would be there,
because John has a baby to look after and Jennie is the house keeper so she has other things she could
be doing. The ending and also the climax of the story, to be precise, it s when her husband comes in
and she s creeping round and round the wall. She says I kept on creeping just the same, but I looked at
him over my shoulder. I ve got out at last, said I, in spite of you and Jane. And I ve pulled off most of
the wallpaper, so you can t put me back! (251) As your reading this you can just tell that by making
her trapped in the room with nothing to do was just making her worse. Like she says when she is

Airport Parking For Small Regional Airports
Airport Parking In Small Regional Airports
Small regional airports struggle with leakage to larger airports that provide primary service to
metropolitan areas. Small catchment areas and few services to communities with smaller population
densities create a constant struggle for small regional airports to attract and retain commercial air
services (Wittman, 2014). Small regional airports must focus on increasing revenue potential in order
to fund operating improvements and must keep a high level of customer satisfaction to retain old
customers and obtain new customers. The Airport Cooperative Research Program (2009) found that
parking revenue is on typically 25% all airport revenue and is approximately 40% or more of non
aviation revenue. This makes airport parking the highest revenue source of U.S. Airports, and is often
used to provide funding to support other operations. Airport parking is also in many cases the first and
last point of interaction users will have with the airport. The particular significance of this study is that
it addresses parking supply needs for small regional airports in terms of parking facility growth
management and revenue retention needs. Most studies look at primary hub airport parking supply
needs, and do little to address the public parking needs of small regional airports. Studies that look at
small regional airports tend to focus on the aviation revenue and space occupancy with little to no
mention of aspect of non aviation operations such

The United States Should Have More Power Essay
States should have more power The United States today uses a federal system of government where
power is shared between the national government and the state government. Through the use of fiscal
federalism, the national government tries to influence the policies of the states through the use of
grants. This leads to cooperative federalism, where the local, state, and federal government share the
expense of programs and projects. Sometimes the federal government makes the states take action
without providing the sufficient funds. When that happens, it is called an unfunded mandate. We need
to have more devolution in the United States. That is when the federal government gives more power
to the states to make and change policies. The federal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Last summer the Obama Administration finalized climate regulations for new and existing power
plants under the clean air act. Those regulations targeted coal fired power plants, the cost of energy
went up significantly for all Americans but especially Utahns. The increase expense of energy has put
more strain on the family, individuals, and businesses will destroy jobs and strain economic growth.
All these consequences have been for nothing. No matter what you believe on the subject of man
made greenhouse emissions, the regulations will have a negligible impact if any on global
temperatures. If the states would have more power over the regulation of emissions, it would lead to
an economic growth not only in the nation but especially in Utah. Having more power on the state
level is sometimes not even enough. For example Salt Lake County has a very high concentration of
emission. Utah county has significantly less emission being released into the atmosphere. But we are
taxed the same amount as they are. Sometimes putting power in the states can not adequately solve
problems, but putting more power on the local level can lead to a more democratic

Urban Education Reform
There are various reasons people continue to move from urban areas to the suburbs. These reasons
include the fact that rural areas have better education, lower crime rates, better infrastructure, and
inequality in the public services offered. Also, with the recent rise the population growth, cities have
become more crowded and continue to grow beyond capacity, which contributes to people relocating
to less population dense rural areas, such as the suburbs.
In regards to increasing the appeal of urban living, there are certain steps local government can take to
do so. One area of concern that needs to be addressed to increase the appeal of urban living is
education reform. When compared, public schools in urban areas perform on a much lower

Rhetorical Analysis Of Coca Cola
Does the childish logic of having done it first mean you have the right to it work in the real, business

be used solely by them. Herbert, a representative from Coca Cola USA, informs the Grove Press that
they had used their slogan in one of their advertisements for a book. Seaver, Executive Vice President
of the Grove Press, does not agree with Coca Cola s terms and claim they were merely quoting a book
critic for the advertisement. He addresses all of Herbert s claims while also adding a sense of sarcasm.
Seaver presents a stronger letter with the use a sarcasm and countering all of Herbert s claims while
Herbert merely establishes authority and uses weak logic as his backup. Herbert immediately builds
up credibility on the matter of the slogan due to his position at Coca Cola USA. He provides examples
from the history of Coca Cola where the slogan had been used. Furthermore, he appeals to fear by
using scare tactics such as subtlety threatening legal action by appreciating their cooperation without
having even a reply from Seaver (Herbert 26). As a result, his letter is similar to a cease and desist
type which is used to threaten legal action. Herbert presents the friendly, cooperative tone to ensure
Grove Press just meets their demands without any efforts of rebutting. He intends to make use of his

Analysis Of Maxine Hong Kingston s Woman Warrior
Relationship honoring is the backbone of Eastern Asian cultures which conflicts with the western
respect for individual freedom and the journey to personal discovery as defined by Susan Cain, author
of a nonfiction book published in 2012, Quiet. Maxine Hong Kingston explores this cultural clash in
her 1976 memoir, Woman Warrior, though following an insecure young daughter of a Chinese
immigrant family who increasingly becomes independent as she is influenced by American Culture.
Kingston uses Maxine s journey to portray that in a world that values individualism, people who are
raised according to foreign traditions of conformity often discover that their parents are not capable
mentors. This struggle eventually causes them break away from their parent s orthodox ideals.
Kingston delves into Maxine s analysis of American and Chinese language semantics to illustrate her
perception of the two conflicting cultures. Ever since Maxine was learning how to read aloud, she
questioned the value systems between both cultures, and the differences between them. To her, they
were conspicuous. When struggling to read, she points out, Chinese had 7 strokes full of intricacies
(Kingston 166). These intricacies stemmed from China s village structure, in which villagers ...
depended on one another to maintain... the roundness (Kingston 12 13). The word round implies a

The Surveillance System Of Egypt
Since 2013, including president El Sissy s first year in power, there have been no real political or
security reforms. The current regime continued to work without a legislative body for more than two
years, with the president issuing hundreds of legislative bills without any real community or political
dialogue (Abd Rabou 2015) . The surveillance system in Egypt simply does not work while the
presidency and other security services have a strict hold on power and while human rights violations
are made by police officers in police stations, prison cells, and even on the streets. All of which is a
continued replay of Mubarak s security policies. The constitution has been violated many times by the
regime and the president declared it to be too ambitious .
Moreover, with the continuing distrust of the judicial system and its bias against most opponents of
the regime including youth, Islamists and non Islamists; and also with the traumatisation and
nationalisation of most of media platforms, terrorism has continued to hit Egypt. ISIS and other
terrorist groups are able to recruit more members who are angered and frustrated by the regime.
Shutting out many political forces from politics in particular and the public space in general has led to
an increase in political violence.
The current regime s fiscal and economic policies, therefore, are not productive and are lacking
transparency, accountability, and feasibility not to mention distributive mechanisms. As El Sheneity

Analysis Of The Play Blood Wedding
I chose to review and research the play Blood Wedding. The setting of the play was placed in Spain
during the early 1930 s. It is based on a true story. In 1928, a young man was murdered by his cousin
in Madrid the night before his wedding. The play gives more detail to what happened with a bride who
is stuck between getting married to someone new than being with someone she loves that she has
known from years ago before she met her fiancé. The main characters of this play are the bride,
bridegroom, and the bridegroom s mother. The mother dug into their business involving relationships
with the bride, another man and her family, but the main conflict is the actual murder scene of the two
men, the bridegroom and Leonardo, who is the other man the bride had feelings for. This scene left the
bride feeling hopeless. Blood Wedding is play that focuses mainly on society roles of men and
women. It was more of a traditional society than what it is like today. Women are known to be the care
givers and stay at home moms that sew, cook, and clean. This play pursues the way women were
treated and thought low of back in history. During the play, the bride mentioned that she wishes she
were a man because she would have more opportunities and be able to be with who she wanted to
marry. Also, the bride s mother in law mentioned several times that she wants grandchildren, exactly
six and hopefully girls, so she can teach them how to sew. This is wrong because people should not

Economic Variables And Asset Returns Using Monte Carlo...
1. Introduction
Economic trends vary from time to time. No one ensures today s gain will lead to the consequence that
I will still profit tomorrow. Therefore, it is truly crucial to generate scenarios for various economic
variables and asset returns using Monte Carlo technique across multiple time periods. Moreover, many
economic variables such as equity returns, credit transitions and exchange rates are stochastic
processes. As a simple illustration for equity scenarios, we can use the basic Geometric Brownian

When the policyholders retire, they can choose to buy an annuity from an insurance company using
the previous lump sum. The annuity will offer 20 annual payments paid at the end of each year. The
payment amounts depend on interest rate at retirement and can be formulated by solving: for the
unknown , where represents the lump sum and means the price of a zero coupon bond maturing at
time t as seen at time 15. Prove that if the interest rates at retirement are 6% per year, then the annual
payment are approximately £43,600, and then calculate the annual payments if the interest rates were
to fall to 1%.
Firstly, we can demonstrate using the given annual payment £43,600 to calculate the lump sum. The
lump sum is £500,088.5651 £500,000.
Next, we will use the £500,000 to calculate the value of X.
As known before, the lump sum is £500,000, which is the present value at time 15.
Using the annuity paid annually in arrears equation to find the accumulated value of all cash flows
received, , where is the annual cash flow, is the interest rate and denotes years. Substituting with what
we have already known, , we get

How Did The Americans Take Taxes After The Revolutionary War
The American colonist and the British started out having a very civil relationship. They provided each
other with resources. During the French and Indian war the colonists were on the British side and
helped them fight. Unfortunately, after the war the British started to change their ways and started to
come up with new stricter rules. The British started to tax the colonist on different kinds of items,
which was not fair to the colonists. They were controlling the colonist with everything they did. The
colonists wanted them to back off a little but the British weren t budging. They thought they could tell
the colonists what to do but the colonists were not going to be treated that way, so they took matters in
their own hands. The colonists ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The colonists did not mind the taxes as much because some of the items that were taxed were
unnecessary, however they did mind that the British were using their power as an excuse to tax the
people for no reason (controlling them). The people s money was not used in a useful matter, it was
used for nothing, just extra money for the British to have. The raising of revenue... was never
intended... Never did the British parliament, (until the passing of the Stamp act) think of imposing
duties in America for the purpose of raising a revenue. The Townshend Acts claim the authority to
impose duties on these colonies, not for the regulation of trade... but for the single purpose of levying
money upson us. (Document 2). The British just decided one day to just tax the colonies for no reason
and the people had no say in it. Also, the British soldiers would come to Boston and take the Boston
colonists jobs. Men and women would lose their jobs because the British would take it away from

Saginaw Police Investigation
A Day in the Life of a Police Officer
For my ethnographic essay I chose to study the life of police officers who work in the City of
Saginaw. Today s society is consumed by false statements and false social media articles. There are
thousands of articles, television commercials, and websites about police brutality, race problems, and
rarely seeing anything good about police officers. Lately it seems as though society is more concerned
about police brutality than actual positive affects police officers have on society. With all of the things
you hear on social media, and fake Facebook articles there are many different things that need to be
taken into consideration. What are the positive affects police officers have on the world and in your ...

Joseph McCarthy did not become well known until 1950. He was a senator from Wisconsin. The

Premenstrual Syndrome Essay
Introduction Premenstrual syndrome (PMS) affects about half of women who are of reproductive age,
and the global prevalence for PMS is roughly 47.8% with percentages of women affected varying by
country1. Symptoms of PMS are cyclic, occur during the luteal phase, and diminish with the onset of
the menses2. There are more than 200 symptoms that have been associated with PMS, but the most
common symptoms can be categorized into 3 groups: behavioral, psychological, and physical
symptoms. Behavioral symptoms include fatigue, insomnia, dizziness, change in sexual interest, food
cravings, and/or overeating2. Psychological symptoms include irritability, anger, depressed mood,
crying, anxiety, tension, mood swings, difficulty concentrating, ... Show more content on

Iron is also a crucial part of menses, as it is found in blood, and the menstrual cycle can deplete a
woman s stores. While food sources are the recommended vehicles in which to meet the
recommendations for these vitamins and minerals, supplementation is another way a woman could
ensure she is getting the recommended dose of the aforementioned vitamins and minerals.
Purpose
The purpose of this study is to examine the effectiveness of vitamin and mineral supplementation on
reducing PMS symptoms in women between the ages of 20 and 30. Half of the female population
suffers from PMS, while others experience significant symptoms that are not severe enough for a
clinical diagnosis, but occur during the luteal phase and affect daily living. This study is important
because PMS affects many women, and if this study successfully found a supplement or nutrition
prescription that reduced symptoms, women could live life regularly again.
Study Aims and Hypothesis One of the aim of this study is to identify if women with PMS have a
nutritional deficiency that could be an underlying factor in the symptoms they are experiencing.
Another aim of the study is to assess the effectiveness of different vitamins and minerals on reducing
symptoms of PMS by testing various vitamin and mineral supplements on

The Hypocrisy of Religion in Moby Dick Essay
The Hypocrisy of Religion in Moby Dick
Stubb decides to give Old Fleece a lecture on religion after waking him to complain about his
overcooked whale steak. Not only does Stubb ask Fleece to preach to the sharks who are making a
considerable din eating the dead whale chained to the ship, but he compares Fleece s inability to
correctly cook a whale steak to Fleece s un Christian ways. This passage is an excellent example of
the theme of the hypocrisy of religion in Moby Dick.
Before Stubb calls on Fleece, Ishmael compares the actions of the shark to the actions of man. He first
compares Stubb to the sharks: Nor was Stubb the only banqueter on whale s flesh that night. Mingling
their mumblings with his own mastications, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In this context, humans are no more civilized or refined than sharks.
However, Stubb s lines tell us that he believes otherwise. After he complains to Fleece about the
overdone steak, he orders Fleece to deliver his message to enjoy the whale but keep quiet while
indulging: now then, go and preach to them! (___). Fleece sullenly obeys, and tells the sharks to stop
dad dam noise dare (___). The irony begins here when Stubb steps and tells Fleece that he s doing it
all wrong, that you don t convert sinners by swearing. Stubb s classification of the sharks as sinners
becomes hypocritical, for as Ishmael and Fleece remark, Stubb himself is a sinner.
Fleece begins his sermon again, this time without the profanity.
Your woraciousness, fellow critters. I don t blame ye so much for; dat is natur, and can t be helped; but
to gobern dat wicked natur, dat is de pint. You is sharks, sartin; but if you gobern de shark in you, why
den you be angel; for all angel is not ing more dan de shark well goberned (___).
Fleece is saying that everyone has a wicked nature, but if one can control that nature, they can be
angels. Stubb completely misses this point of this warm moment; his comment that s Christianity,
seems more like a praise of Fleece s ability to refrain from swearing instead of a realization that
Fleece is saying there is good in everyone, regardless of the religious affiliation one is labeled.

Rules Of Mate Choice Essay
Rules of attraction: Biological and evolutionary reasons of mate choice ABSTRACT Within the past
decade we have witnessed a series of new developments and an enormously growing interest in the
understanding of human behaviour, especially when it comes to the basic principles of human mate
choice. Mate preference is something which is often considered a very individual choice and appears
to be influenced by cultural and economic norms. However, on the basis of numerous research works,
it is a today s acceptation that attractiveness represents a signal resulting from sexual selection.

highlights which kinds of signals affect our choice for a partner, discusses the most commonly known

the media. 2. ON THE TRACES OF BEAUTY: JDUGMENT AND BENEFIT OF ATTRACTIVE
FACES In our daily life we are constantly confronted with beauty and only to few other things we
dedicate so much attention as to our appearance. Within today s multimedia society especially the
evaluation of faces is of outstanding importance. An attractive face clearly finds more approval: a
beautiful face activates the reward centre in the opposite s brain and we generally link positive human
characteristics with an attractive face (Rhodes, 2006). Systematic research in this area started at the
beginning of the 1970 s. Dion, Berscheid and Walster, who were pioneers in this field, determined the
relationship between positive characteristics and attractive faces and came up with the proposal what
is beautiful is good (Dion, Berscheid, Walster; 1972). Today it is generally accepted that attractive
persons have a better and easier life than less attractive ones. Thus, further investigations into this
topic showed that attractive children get better grades or receive less punishment than fellow peers
who are less attractive. Even in court cases it seems

Reasons For Australia s Involvement In The Vietnam War
After World War II in the 20th century, the United States and the Soviet Union were the new
Superpowers . These two major nations had two conflicting political ideologies which were stated as
Capitalism and Communism, and this had Australia right in the middle of the story. Since Australia
has very strong ties with the US, making it even stronger after involving in the Vietnam War and also
grew strong with the SEATO and ANZUS with the fear of the so called domino theory and the foreign
policies which including the Forward Defence Policy. This, however, allowed Australia to gain a
closer chance to go to war in Vietnam. Australia having really strong ties with the US makes it a

Vietnam was the first time Australian conscripts were sent abroad in peace time. Many protest groups,
like Save Our Sons, started off as anti conscription, but became anti war as the conflict dragged on.
Many men started to object to national service refusing to register or attend when called to serve. After
1968, men could be imprisoned for refusing to comply with the National Service Scheme. By 1969 the
anti conscription movement was no longer composed of just mothers groups and university students. It
had widespread support across all sections of Australian society. Major battles had many people
wondering if the Vietnam War was, in fact, winnable and for how long Australian soldiers were going
to be involved. One of the major factors in a growing anti war movement was the reporting of the
Vietnam War; it was a war fought on TV. No one could escape the horrors of what was happening
there. To set a conclusion, this essay shows that Australia feared the threats of Communist attacks to
gain power but since Australia and its allies, US and Britain, negotiated throughout the conflict and
played smart while thinking of the domino theory so they worked on preventing the enemies troops
from gaining access to Australia s Shores, so they fought in Vietnam to stop the threat having help

The genesis of Edward Scissorhands came from a drawing by then teenaged director Tim Burton,
which reflected his feelings of isolation and being unable to communicate to people around him in
suburban Santa Clarita Valley, California. Burton stated that he was often alone and had trouble
retaining friendships. I get the feeling people just got this urge to want to leave me alone for some
reason, I don t know exactly why . During pre production of Beetlejuice, Burton hired Caroline
Thompson, then a young novelist, to write the Edward Scissorhands screenplay as a spec script.
Burton was impressed with her short novel, First Born, which was about an abortion that came back to
life . Burton felt First Born had the same psychological elements he wanted to showcase in Edward
Scissorhands.

U.s. Congressional Reconstruction Era
The Reconstruction Era In 1865, the city was devastated because of the crisis that left the civil war.
Therefore, political, economic and social issues needed to be resolved to improve and reconstruct the
Nation. It was the period in which the State and local governments in the South were restored, and the
Southern states were unified to the rest of the States. This essay emphasizes the differences between
congressional and presidential reconstruction. Also, it highlights the achievements and success of
both. Although the presidential and congressional Reconstruction has some similarities, they also
disagreed on many points and created a conflict between each other. Nevertheless by early 1867, the
new Congress passed the Reconstruction Act of 1867 over President Johnson s veto. The
Congressional Reconstruction Plan dramatically changed politics in the South. The reconstruction was
a process of reformation that affected the whole nation. There were three main Reconstruction plans.
Two were presidential The Lincoln and Johnson s Plan. Meanwhile, one was Congressional. Lincoln
started a Reconstruction plan during the Civil War. To summarize, he implemented before his death,
the Emancipation Proclamation, the 10% Plan and he tried to extend suffrage. But his Plan failed. The
only thing that remained of his plan was to create the Freedmen s Bureau, established in March 1865,
to assist the newly freed slaves in transitioning to a life of slavery and a life of freedom. After

My Papaw Short Story
My papaw, Fred, has always played a role of being easy going and simple. He s about six foot, has
wire glasses, wears khaki Carhart overalls everyday and when you stand close enough, his afternoon

other man in Kingsport, that you can almost taste the gasoline when it passed. He moved to Kingsport,
Tennessee when he left the air force, and was only twenty one at the time. He had very little to his
name, but had hopes higher than all the stars on a clear, country night. There was one thing that my
papaw was sure to have with him at all times, and that was a cigarette. If he has his cigarettes then he

Factors That Led To The Fall Of The Roman Republic
Three ideals and traditions of the Roman Republic, lust for power, greed, and loyalty, each contributed
to the collapse of the Republic. Desire for power played a major role in the collapse of the Republic
because Caesar, the man who arguably began the Republic s downfall, marched on Rome because he
wanted power. The second ideal that led to the Republic s collapse was greed and the power of money,
for example bribing officials in Rome, Crassus shocking alliance with Caesar, and Pompey s strategy
to fight Caesar during the first civil war. The last ideal that aided the downfall of the Republic was
loyalty, specifically citizens loyalty to political leaders or military generals, loyalty between generals
and their veterans, and loyalty between political leaders. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Before the collapse of the Republic, Sulla, a roman patrician, declared himself dictator and used
proscription lists, a list of people posted in the forum who were declared enemies of the state, to
maintain his power. This example shows how lust for power was inherent and already destructive in
the Republic, prior to its collapse. Similar to lust for power, greed could be found within the Republic
before its collapse. For example, patricians, aristocrats, would buy farmland from plebeians who were
serving in the army, and they used the land to increase their wealth. Lastly, loyalty was viewed as an
important aspect of the Republic, specifically loyalty to politicians, family, and the Republic s beliefs.
Most Roman households had some allegiance to a certain politician and would support that politician
despite their own personal beliefs. These three ideals of the Republic were established and followed
long before the collapse of the Republic, and all three grew into destructive forces that caused the

The Causes Of Famine And Poverty
As a young girl, I recall watching a documentary about a young mother in Africa who cooked mud
cakes under the blinding sun to put some source of calcium into her starving childrens body. The cakes
were made from dried dirt which was dug from the ground. While children in first world nations take
for granted the meals they receive at home and in school, every day millions of men and women
across the world struggle to feed their children a nutritious meal. As children in the richest countries in
the world throw out vast amounts of food and have developed particular appetites for certain foods,
children in developed countries go to bed with an empty stomach. Many parents do not understand the
impact of raising their children with a silver spoon in their mouth and how it can shape them into
selfish adults in the long run. It is embarrassing as an American citizen to know that while our country
is facing obesity, people in other countries are dying from starvation. Most individuals believe that
famine and poverty are merely natural phenomenon based on geography and environment. However,
these individuals fail to realize that these issues are rooted in social relations. In order to eradicate
famine and poverty within society, particular social relations need to be eliminated.
The popular belief of why famines occur and remain to impact many nations around the world is
because of geographic location. However, tragic famines like the Irish potato famine reveal that it is

Women s Views On Women
People in Afghanistan tend to think women should not have a voice. Women s opinions are not

Women s rights have been exploited by different groups for political gain and sometimes for the so
called well being of the country in the last fifty years. Afghanistan has been stuck in a state of war for
over three decades now. The different types of groups that have been coming into the country to fight
have made a huge impact on the people of Afghanistan. This essay will state the type of struggles the
Afghan women are facing on a daily base and are in fact enduring the pain silently. I believe that
women should be treated more equally in education, society and workplace.
Women are not treated the same as men in Afghanistan. The people in Afghanistan tend to believe that
equality should not be given to women because women are only born to serve men and fulfil their
wishes and commands. The disturbing fact is that not only men think this way but most women have
the same thoughts too. Afghanistan is one of the most challenging places for women to live. Their
lifestyle is enormously different from a female s lifestyle in Great Britain. Beginning from the time

King Tut s Death
Since his tomb s discovery, King Tutankhamun s death has been debated by many scholars and anyone
who is interested. The ideas proposed by these scholars are constantly being challenged by other
evidence suggesting otherwise. The young King s early death has been a very debatable topic, but
evidence clearly points to the theory that his death was caused by an accident that broke his femur
which got infected and nobody knew how to treat it. The discovery of the young King Tutankhamun s
tomb provided some insight on his life as a pharaoh. Tut s tomb has been the only tomb that has been
relatively untouched by tomb raiders, giving egyptologists so much more information than any other

In a Smithsonian article by Matthew Shaer, titled The Controversial Afterlife of King Tut , he
mentions that Zahi Hawass and his team noticed a break in his lower left femur seemed different than
the breaks made by Carter. The break was ragged rather than sharp. This suggests that it was broken
when he was alive. In the same article, Shaer also says that they noticed two layers of embalming
material in the wound. History.com talks about how nobody knew that wounds needed to be kept
clean so the wound would become infected with gangrene causing the leg to triple in size
(History.com). This would explain why King Tut seems to have a club foot . The infection could have
been caused by an accident involving a chariot, an animal, or both while hunting. Not much can
contradict the evidence put forth proving that he must have died due to an infection in his lower left
femur. In Matthew Shaer s The Controversial Afterlife of King Tut , he mentions that two scientists,
who both examined the CT, scans believed that there was not enough evidence to prove the broken

with the most compelling evidence compared to any other theory proposed. The mysteries of King Tut

Nicolas Rolin s Commission of a Paiting
Nicolas Rolin was born of a bourgeois family in 1376 (Harbison 2012). He became the chancellor to
Philip the Good (Duke of Burgundy). He became a very important figure in the politics because of his
various roles for the duke. Although he was very wealthy he was not very noble. The people in the
society had a negative image of him as he placed power and wealth before all and would not let
anyone take his place. (Bord 1898). Although not very noble, he still displayed some acts of charity,
for instance the Hotel Dieu in Beaune. Even his charitable acts are believed to be acts of Rolin
exercising his materially rich and ostentatious taste (Bord 1898). He funded the church Notre Dame
du Chatel where he was baptized and restored it. He later became the official patron of this church. He
also bought a house next to the church in order to be closer to it (Placido 2008). On the southern side
of the chapel, Rolin created a family oratory dedicated to St Sebastian (Soulard 2006). In this room he
had other pieces of art that he commissioned from other artists. There are many arguments about the
reasons why Rolin chose to have this painting made. The main argument is to determine whether
Rolin was really feeling guilty and seeking piety from the church by making donations or was this his
way of exhibiting his wealth and power (Harbison 2012)? It is believed that this painting was
commissioned for both reasons. According to Gaston Bord, this painting was commissioned for two

  • 2. Rhetorical Analysis Deborah Tannen In this excerpt, Deborah Tannen speaks anecdotally about her observations of behavioral and communicative differences between boys and girls in peer groups that are sex separate. I m going to assume she s talking about all boys and all girls schools. Deborah Tannen describes girls as typically inclined to choose one female friend with whom they ll build a strong and exclusive bond that revolves around secretive conversation. She goes on to generalize boys as being much more willing to socialize with a broader peer group in the form of playful activities, and to use those activities to exhibit their skill, verbally express their knowledge, and to establish their rank in a pecking order. Where Deborah Tannen sees controversy in this is that most ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... That s where I become reluctant to recommend Deborah Tannen s teaching strategy. Looking back on my public education experience I can think of a lot more exceptions to this description of how boys and girls use language differently than agreements. Again, I m relying on personal experiences and I can of course also recall instances where men have dominated a classroom discussion. However, for me to say that all boys dominated girls during classroom discussions in Phoenix, AZ during the last stretch of the 20th century or that all girls are reluctant to speak publicly outside of the comfort of their peer group in Honolulu, HI during the beginning of the 21st century would be disingenuous and could probably be attributed to an expectancy bias. Could these statements hold true in a different time, culture or geography? Absolutely. My guess is that none of the cited researchers whose work this article was predicated upon could have possibly conceived of a world where, new students that are assigned a questionnaire on Alcohol and Other Drugs , have six categories to choose from under gender . Though, I have been to plenty of countries that are ostensibly 20 30 years behind our cultural revolutions where segregation is more prevalent and gender identity is sufficiently binary to benefit from Deborah s ... Achaemenid Empire Analysis Relief of the northern stairs of the Apadana The relief was carved into the northern stairs of the Apadana at Persepolis, the capital of the ancient Achaemenid empire, founded by king Darius. The relief was sponsored by king Darius to show his absolute power. This artifact is significant because it shows the bureaucracy of Achaemenid empire, suggests the king s absolute power and records the tradition of proskynesis. First, the relief reflected the bureaucracy of Achaemenid empire. The relief showed a local official contribute goods to the king. • 4. The Color Of Color In The Great Gatsby Throughout the novel, it can be seen that the most common color accompanying with Gatsby is yellow. With this color, the author skillfully implies what kind of outer self Gatsby intends to show before others. Yellow is the color of gold, which symbolizes money, materialism and high social position. First, yellow stands out as the color that represents new money and wealth acquired. According to Fitzgerald, On week−ends his Rolls−Royce became an omnibus, bearing parties to and from the city between nine in the morning and long past midnight, while his station wagon scampered like a brisk yellow bug to meet all trains....The lights grow brighter as the earth lurches away from the sun, and now the orchestra is playing yellow cocktail music, and the opera of voices pitches a key higher (Chapter 3, Page 21). Fitzgerald uses gold, a vivid representation of yellow to symbolize the wealth gained by Gatsby and the immense desire for him to get even more and to show it off to the entire society. In the light of the following events, it is easy to see how Gatsby is blinded by his love for Daisy and therefore money. This evidence shows that he buys a large yellow Rolls Royce to show off his new money. The band at his party plays yellow cocktail music to show his fulsome way of living and life. Gatsby chooses the yellow color to decorate himself and his house to show that he has been one member of their class. As Gatsby thinks that Daisy has never loved anyone else any more except ... • 5. Dr. Seuss Research Paper Dr. Seuss real name is Theodor Seuss Geisel. He was born March 2, 1904, in a small town named Springfield, Massachusetts. His parents were Theodor Robert Geisel and Henrietta Seuss Geisel. He gives his mom credit today for his love of rhymes and being able to rhyme so well. He lived a happy childhood with his parents and his sister and even used some of those memories in his books (Horton hears a Who and I heard it on Mulberry street). He eventually left home for college at Dartmouth. Where he and his friends started a humor newspaper named Jack O Lantern that he started drawing comics in. It was then that he started signing his name Seuss. Sadly, he got kicked off Jack O Lantern for getting caught drinking in his dorm room. But shortly after that he graduated Dartmouth and attended Oxford in England like his father originally wanted. It was there that he met his first wife Helen Palmer, they got married in 1927. He then dropped out of Oxford, and moved back to the United States to become a cartoonist. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He started writing these cartoons about the time World War II started. Since he was too old to draft, he started writing and illustrating political type cartoons. • 8. The Red Planet And Space Travel Essay Humans have been studying space for over two thousand years; whether it be for naming stars, looking for and creating constellations, studying the moon and its phases, studying other planets in our solar system; the list goes on. Humans are always interested in space and the many mysteries with it. Humans love learning more about space so we sent humans to our own moon to help understand more about space. Yet we had plans to get to Mars four years before we even landed on the moon. How did we have plans to get to Mars before we even landed on the moon? Wernher von Braun has been interested in the red planet and space travel since he was in college. Many years after college, Braun still had his dream of making it to Mars. Braun then wrote a novel in 1949 with plans of traveling to Mars in 1965. This plan obviously has not happened yet, but humans then gained more interest in the red planet. Plans of traveling to Mars has been steadily increasing and changing over time; from Braun s first plans to NASA new plans and the change of technology that has helped us humans get closer to the dream of stepping foot on the red planet. We do not know where this journey will end, yet we know this human beings are headed into the cosmos[space]. Mankind is drawn to the heavens for the same reason we were once drawn into unknown lands and across the open sea. In this particular episode, I observed examples of hostility between both the white man and Native Americans. Similar to what we had learned in class about the constant hostility that was present with many white men and Native Americans due to the white man essentially taking over the Native American s land. I observed how the Native Americans slowly became like the white man once he was brought into his home. This again reminded me of what we had learned in class about how Native Americans were encouraged to take up farming, wear clothes like white men, chop their long hair off to have it short representing the hair of the white men, cook and prepare food like the white man and live in a home like the white man. Airport Parking For Small Regional Airports Airport Parking In Small Regional Airports Small regional airports struggle with leakage to larger airports that provide primary service to metropolitan areas. Small catchment areas and few services to communities with smaller population densities create a constant struggle for small regional airports to attract and retain commercial air services (Wittman, 2014). Small regional airports must focus on increasing revenue potential in order to fund operating improvements and must keep a high level of customer satisfaction to retain old customers and obtain new customers. The Airport Cooperative Research Program (2009) found that parking revenue is on typically 25% all airport revenue and is approximately 40% or more of non aviation revenue. This makes airport parking the highest revenue source of U.S. Airports, and is often used to provide funding to support other operations. Airport parking is also in many cases the first and last point of interaction users will have with the airport. The particular significance of this study is that it addresses parking supply needs for small regional airports in terms of parking facility growth management and revenue retention needs. Most studies look at primary hub airport parking supply needs, and do little to address the public parking needs of small regional airports. Studies that look at small regional airports tend to focus on the aviation revenue and space occupancy with little to no mention of aspect of non aviation operations such ... The United States Should Have More Power Essay States should have more power The United States today uses a federal system of government where power is shared between the national government and the state government. Through the use of fiscal federalism, the national government tries to influence the policies of the states through the use of grants. This leads to cooperative federalism, where the local, state, and federal government share the expense of programs and projects. Sometimes the federal government makes the states take action without providing the sufficient funds. When that happens, it is called an unfunded mandate. The current regime continued to work without a legislative body for more than two years, with the president issuing hundreds of legislative bills without any real community or political dialogue (Abd Rabou 2015) . The surveillance system in Egypt simply does not work while the presidency and other security services have a strict hold on power and while human rights violations are made by police officers in police stations, prison cells, and even on the streets. All of which is a continued replay of Mubarak s security policies. The constitution has been violated many times by the regime and the president declared it to be too ambitious . Not only does Stubb ask Fleece to preach to the sharks who are making a considerable din eating the dead whale chained to the ship, but he compares Fleece s inability to correctly cook a whale steak to Fleece s un Christian ways. This passage is an excellent example of the theme of the hypocrisy of religion in Moby Dick. Before Stubb calls on Fleece, Ishmael compares the actions of the shark to the actions of man. He first compares Stubb to the sharks: Nor was Stubb the only banqueter on whale s flesh that night. Mingling their mumblings with his own mastications, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In this context, humans are no more civilized or refined than sharks. However, Stubb s lines tell us that he believes otherwise. After he complains to Fleece about the overdone steak, he orders Fleece to deliver his message to enjoy the whale but keep quiet while indulging: now then, go and preach to them! (___). Fleece sullenly obeys, and tells the sharks to stop dad dam noise dare (___). The irony begins here when Stubb steps and tells Fleece that he s doing it all wrong, that you don t convert sinners by swearing. Stubb s classification of the sharks as sinners becomes hypocritical, for as Ishmael and Fleece remark, Stubb himself is a sinner. Fleece begins his sermon again, this time without the profanity. Your woraciousness, fellow critters. I don t blame ye so much for; dat is natur, and can t be helped; but to gobern dat wicked natur, dat is de pint. You is sharks, sartin; but if you gobern de shark in you, why den you be angel; for all angel is not ing more dan de shark well goberned (___). Fleece is saying that everyone has a wicked nature, but if one can control that nature, they can be angels. Stubb completely misses this point of this warm moment; his comment that s Christianity, seems more like a praise of Fleece s ability to refrain from swearing instead of a realization that Fleece is saying there is good in everyone, regardless of the religious affiliation one is labeled. ... ON THE TRACES OF BEAUTY: JDUGMENT AND BENEFIT OF ATTRACTIVE FACES In our daily life we are constantly confronted with beauty and only to few other things we dedicate so much attention as to our appearance. Within today s multimedia society especially the evaluation of faces is of outstanding importance. An attractive face clearly finds more approval: a beautiful face activates the reward centre in the opposite s brain and we generally link positive human characteristics with an attractive face (Rhodes, 2006). Systematic research in this area started at the beginning of the 1970 s. Dion, Berscheid and Walster, who were pioneers in this field, determined the relationship between positive characteristics and attractive faces and came up with the proposal what is beautiful is good (Dion, Berscheid, Walster; 1972). Today it is generally accepted that attractive persons have a better and easier life than less attractive ones. Thus, further investigations into this topic showed that attractive children get better grades or receive less punishment than fellow peers who are less attractive. Even in court cases it seems ... To set a conclusion, this essay shows that Australia feared the threats of Communist attacks to gain power but since Australia and its allies, US and Britain, negotiated throughout the conflict and played smart while thinking of the domino theory so they worked on preventing the enemies troops from gaining access to Australia s Shores, so they fought in Vietnam to stop the threat having help from South Vietnam and wanted to free the North from Communist ruling as it already was a Communist ... Therefore, political, economic and social issues needed to be resolved to improve and reconstruct the Nation. It was the period in which the State and local governments in the South were restored, and the Southern states were unified to the rest of the States. This essay emphasizes the differences between congressional and presidential reconstruction. Also, it highlights the achievements and success of both. Although the presidential and congressional Reconstruction has some similarities, they also disagreed on many points and created a conflict between each other. Nevertheless by early 1867, the new Congress passed the Reconstruction Act of 1867 over President Johnson s veto. The Congressional Reconstruction Plan dramatically changed politics in the South. • 36. Factors That Led To The Fall Of The Roman Republic Three ideals and traditions of the Roman Republic, lust for power, greed, and loyalty, each contributed to the collapse of the Republic. Desire for power played a major role in the collapse of the Republic because Caesar, the man who arguably began the Republic s downfall, marched on Rome because he wanted power. The second ideal that led to the Republic s collapse was greed and the power of money, for example bribing officials in Rome, Crassus shocking alliance with Caesar, and Pompey s strategy to fight Caesar during the first civil war. The last ideal that aided the downfall of the Republic was loyalty, specifically citizens loyalty to political leaders or military generals, loyalty between generals and their veterans, and loyalty between political leaders. ... Before the collapse of the Republic, Sulla, a roman patrician, declared himself dictator and used proscription lists, a list of people posted in the forum who were declared enemies of the state, to maintain his power. Similar to lust for power, greed could be found within the Republic before its collapse. For example, patricians, aristocrats, would buy farmland from plebeians who were serving in the army, and they used the land to increase their wealth. Lastly, loyalty was viewed as an important aspect of the Republic, specifically loyalty to politicians, family, and the Republic s beliefs. The Causes Of Famine And Poverty As a young girl, I recall watching a documentary about a young mother in Africa who cooked mud cakes under the blinding sun to put some source of calcium into her starving childrens body. The cakes were made from dried dirt which was dug from the ground. While children in first world nations take for granted the meals they receive at home and in school, every day millions of men and women across the world struggle to feed their children a nutritious meal. As children in the richest countries in the world throw out vast amounts of food and have developed particular appetites for certain foods, children in developed countries go to bed with an empty stomach. Many parents do not understand the impact of raising their children with a silver spoon in their mouth and how it can shape them into selfish adults in the long run. Most individuals believe that famine and poverty are merely natural phenomenon based on geography and environment. However, these individuals fail to realize that these issues are rooted in social relations. He became a very important figure in the politics because of his various roles for the duke. Although he was very wealthy he was not very noble. The people in the society had a negative image of him as he placed power and wealth before all and would not let anyone take his place. (Bord 1898). Although not very noble, he still displayed some acts of charity, for instance the Hotel Dieu in Beaune. Even his charitable acts are believed to be acts of Rolin exercising his materially rich and ostentatious taste (Bord 1898). He funded the church Notre Dame du Chatel where he was baptized and restored it. He later became the official patron of this church. He also bought a house next to the church in order to be closer to it (Placido 2008). On the southern side of the chapel, Rolin created a family oratory dedicated to St Sebastian (Soulard 2006). In this room he had other pieces of art that he commissioned from other artists. There are many arguments about the reasons why Rolin chose to have this painting made. The main argument is to determine whether Rolin was really feeling guilty and seeking piety from the church by making donations or was this his way of exhibiting his wealth and power (Harbison 2012)?
