The Berlin Wall As A Physical Symbol Of The Political,...
Assess the significance of the Berlin Wall as a physical symbol of the political, social and economic
repression in East Germany, particularly East Berlin
The Berlin Wall was a tangible physical symbol of escalating Cold War tensions between the
democratic West and communist Eastern bloc, and its construction facilitated repressive political,
social and economic impacts in East Berlin. On 13 August 1961, the Berlin Wall was suddenly sealed
overnight separating the Soviet occupied eastern sector from the Allied occupied western sectors of
Berlin and has remained in place until its fall on 9 November 1989. The Berlin Wall was a significant
step in solidifying the oppressiveness of Soviet style socialism in the German Democratic Republic
(GDR), reinforced by the Stasi as the main vehicle in perpetuating political repression. As a result of
closing the Berlin Wall, infringements upon social liberties and the suppression of human rights arose
in East Berlin. The Wall represented the GDR s unworkable socialist regime modelled around a
planned economic system as well as the consequential devastating economic decline to East Berlin
and the GDR.
At the pinnacle of hostility and ideological conflict between the Soviet Union and the West, the Berlin
Wall closed the remaining gap in the Iron Curtain, confirming the GDR s political stance and
oppression. To the West, the Wall created influential propaganda evidencing East Germany as a
disastrous state with citizens unwilling to live

Career Blind Americans
Students who come from black working class families are more likely to be career blind and
underachievers.
This was view expressed by Professor Emeritus Ramesh Deosaran at the Ministry of Education s
Administrator s Conference at the Miracle Ministries Pentecostal High School yesterday.
Deosaran, who was the feature speaker, told those present that the society is at a point where it needs
to be rebuilt from scratch and teachers are the ones who can accomplish this feat.
Many young boys and girls drift into gangs, drugs and other illicit behaviours mainly because they
were mentally career blind, not possessing a career or occupational goal, Deosaran said during his
address. It continues to be a tragedy that this career blind group, ... Show more content on

I remember while interviewing Form Five students in an under performing school, we asked what
career they aimed for. Some said policeman, others said join the army, driving tractor etc. One boy
stood up and said A doctor, sir.
You should have seen how the other children laughed at him, mocking him. That is a remarkable
phenomenon, these children do not believe that they or anyone in their school can hope to be
something like that.
Questioned by media during a lunch break, Deosaran elaborated on his comments, saying, There are
several factors that affect the education system for example: social class, economic differences, ethnic
differences gender differences and even where the students are located, because you find in one
district, for example, Victoria a high proportion of what you call the prestige schools exist, so all these
factors, converge to create a disturbing degree of inequality in the education system.
Deosaran said his conclusion was based on a report done in 1994 and research and observation over
the years.
Now we have found that over the years, about 20 years or more, that particular kinds of families are
more disadvantaged than others. For example working class families, single parent families and
students of African origin who are also from poor families are also

Martha Stewart Scandal
Even if they d never met her in person, people would talk about being like Martha, dressing like
Martha, or having tastes like Martha (Knowledge Wharton, 2004). Martha Stewart, Omni Media CEO,
represents the company s image more than anything else; being tied directly to the company can
damage reputation when the CEO is in the middle of a public scandal. After all, Stewart was an Icon
to many women and her reputation is what helped her brand be so successful. From magazines to TV
shows Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia was becoming a very successful company. Martha Stewart
Living Omnimedia will also be referred to as MSLO.
Background of Scandal In 2001, Martha Stewart was accused of illegal insider trading with the stock
of ImClone ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Stewart then built a website in which where she tried to claim she was innocent but did not
communicate effectively. Marthatalks.com, which is now unavailable, the site launched by her PR
firm which began to show Stewart as a good natured person. The website contained letters from
Stewart, fan mail, and case updates. This was able to make the public more aware of her situation and
bring them hope that he would be okay.
When she was sent to prison Martha Stewart compared herself to President Nelson Mandela as an
example of the many good people who have gone to prison. While in Jail she would post letters about
her life in prison so fans could read how she was doing; even though she went to prison she still
retained a pretty loyal fan base. Omni media did some damage control and repositioned the brands
image; Martha Stewart was taken off magazine covers, and her name was made smaller on other
products. In an effort to stop the losses MSOL dropped the Letter from Martha in Living magazine
and reduced the size of her name on the cover of the Magazine
Stewart even decided to go to prison early against advice from her lawyers and this was another key
tool in her communication. This finally showed people that she truly accepted her decisions and
wanted to serve her time and move on; her fan base stayed by her side and this is what made the
difference in her current success. Once Stewart was out of prison she became the spotlight of the
company again.

Response Structure
Creating an emergency response plan is very important in any business. There are different plans for
medical, fire, police, and school. The following plans are imperative in any environment. There are
many things that will happen and Incident Command System (ICS) will help to provide the responders
with an effective system that works. But before we go into the structures, an understanding of an
incident command system needs to be addressed.
According to OSHA, n.d., ICS is a standardized on scene incident management concept designed
specifically to allow responders to adopt an integrated organizational structure equal to the complexity

This allows hospitals to know how many beds they are going to need. Demobilization is the next level.
In this level, the responders are either sent back to the area they came from, set back in service after
they transport a victim, or they are cancelled all together. The last level is termination. In this level, the
incident commander decides that no further action is required and everyone is sent back to their units.
The next thing we need to look at are the responsibilities of the incident commander. The first one,
according to FEMA, 1999, is to rescue all victims. The second is making sure the victims are taken
out of the situation and moved to a medical facility. And the third is to make sure the personnel are
safe.
Next we will look at fire and rescue. The organization of the incident command is almost the same as
the medical responders. According to Fire and Rescue, 2008, the following are the organizational
areas for fire and rescue: Organization on the incident ground, this gives the Incident Commander a
recognized system from which to work when organizing and using resources at an Incident, Incident
Risk Management, the principal consideration of Incident Commanders is safety of their personnel.
Therefore, prior to deciding upon the tactics an assessment of risk must be performed. The Incident
Commander must identify the hazards, assess the risks, and implement all reasonable control measures
before committing crews into a risk area,

Argumentative Essay On Religion And Death
http://www.bbc.com/news/world latin america 41804243
Religion and death are inseparable; religion is a guiding line from life to death and past it. There is
evidence all over Mexico, which shows the first rituals to celebrate and honor the dead. Humanity is
shaped deeply by religion and religion is shaped by society. Religion is used to construct and
understand the world, including death. The preservation of the dead since ancient times shows the
importance which was placed on the body and the need for the body to be intact when moving to the
next realm.
This belief of the next realm is the critical point of faith. Believing there is something after death
means there is a need to be validated by saints. This validation is crucial when transcending to the next

Pablo Escobar created a certain atmosphere in which Sicarios we born. These hired assassins were
mostly young people in poverty who would kill whomever for the money. Moreover, when Escobar
was killed in 1993, the cities drug crime became arguably more violent since it was less organized and
there was a vacuum of power. Those Sicarios who previously had employment were left in an
organized enrolment of violence. This created a population which was homeless and was hyper aware
of death.
Throughout the movie religion and death are tied. At the beginning of the film, Alexis says we were
born to die. This is the mantra which most Sicarios incorporated into their daily life. The perception of
their own lives was complex, they would do anything to survive but often placed themselves in
situations at high risk. This phrase carries the same sentiment that the followers of Santa Muerte
believe in. When your life is often placed in situations of high risk and there seems to be little control,

The British Army And The Civil War
England, 1947. Princess Elizabeth marries George VI, Duke of Edinburgh, in one of the most lavish,
anticipated televised events of the decade. The University of Cambridge allows the acceptance of
women after nearly 750 years in existence. The British army begins to withdraw troops from the Civil
War in Mandatory Palestine. Brain May, a rock n roll phenomenon, is born. All significant in their
respective areas, these event hold their own place in history. Not one, but two of these events would
result in important rulers. More specifically, they would both result in a Queen. Brian May, born July
19, attended Hampton Grammar School during his adolescence. His parents, Harold and Ruth May,
raised him in a middle class, suburban environment and instilled the importance of an education into
their beloved only child. He furthered his schooling at Imperial College in London, England where he
studied Physics and Mathematics, with a particular focus in Astrophysics. Although his education was
of an utmost importance, it was at Imperial that he explored his interest in music. May created the
band Smile with singer and bassist Tim Staffell and drummer Rodger Taylor in early 1968. Their time
was short as the band only recorded a total of six songs in their two year run. Recognizing Smile s
inevitably unsuccessful future, the band parted ways. Brian and Roger however, remained close

Investigating The Theories Of Trace Evidence
Trace evidence can be used to link people or objects to places, other people, or other objects. This
often serves as a starting point, or lead, for a particular line of investigation (Lothridge, 2016). Trace
evidence can include a wide variety of materials, but most commonly tested are hair, fibers, paint and
glass. Other, less frequently included items are soil, cosmetics and fire debris (Lothridge, 2016). Dr.
Edmond Locard formulated the theory that Every contact leaves a trace . This became known as
Locard s exchange principle (Lothridge, 2016). Tools such as tweezers, tape, specialized vacuums,

Laboratory for comparison purposes. When a window is damaged in a burglary, or the headlights of a

contaminated with glass should be wrapped in paper and submitted to the laboratory for examination.
Glass from different locations should be kept in different containers. All glass should be collected

bindles, then in coin envelopes, pill boxes, or film cans which can be marked and completely sealed.
Large glass fragments can be placed in boxes. Individual pieces can be separated with cotton or tissue
to prevent breakage and damaged edges during shipment. As part of the investigation of vehicle
accidents, it may be of importance to determine whether or not a headlight or taillight was illuminated
at the time the light was broken. Recovery of the filaments is of primary importance. If recovered, it
should be placed in a paper bindle or a small pill box sealed with tape. Whether or not the large

Schizophrenic Paranoia
In addition to having schizophrenic paranoia, Chief is depressed. A major catalyst for the onset of
depression is the suppression of emotions, and Chief has suppressed many emotions throughout his
life. When he was a child, he had to watch as people in power took everything from him, and he was
one of the few patients who were not in the mental institution voluntarily. The forced loss of freedom
is reason enough for anyone to become depressed. Depression is ubiquitous, usually easily recognized,

The men on the ward, especially Chief, are dealing with many different disorders that affect every
aspect of their lives. The effects of the multiple illnesses eventually blur into each other, and if Chief

Favio Chavez Cateura Landfill
Since the industrial revolution, packaging materials and organic waste have become more ubiquitous
that ever. With 220 million tons of waste being produced each year from the US alone, landfills and
other sanitary disposal areas are pushed to maximum capacity. As the organic waste decays, noxious
methane gas bubbles to the surface of the rotting piles and pollutes the atmosphere and insecure waste
can infiltrate a local lake or aquifer, producing disastrous consequences that the ecosystem simply
cannot function with. In an impecunious region of Paraguay, 25,000 families live off the scraps of the
Cateura landfill. Asides from its deleterious impacts on the environment, the colossal landfill also
contributes toward the poverty and destitution of the local families. Favio Chavez, a musical teacher,

Chronic Illness Of The American Population
A child is not their disease, neither is their family. However, it is often difficult for them to disconnect
their self from the detrimental effects of it. In spite of the fact that the majority of the American
population appears quite healthy, over 32 million children are currently suffering from a chronic
illness. According to njhealth.org, chronic illness is an illness that may last throughout a person s life,
although the frequency and severity of symptoms can change. Nearly 43% of American children are
currently afflicted with at least 1 of many chronic ailments ranging from diabetes to cancer. Many of
these children may never return to their precedent state of well being; physically, emotionally, socially,
and psychologically. During such horrific times as these it is important to remember that the children
are not the only ones suffering; their family is as well. Children who are physically ill have a tendency
to feel more psychological distress than those who are not. A decrease in ones physical health can lead
to and increased risk of depression, hopelessness, helplessness and anger. Social and relationship
issues that are extremely common amongst patients who are ill also cause an increase in these
emotions. Disease has the ability to ravage the self and outside relationships. It is especially important
during times such as these to remember that ones physical and emotional health is in correlation to one
another. Your body reciprocates to the way you feel,

The definition of history according to NAF is, the important events that have happened at the

Syrian Immigration Policies
Purpose
Canada s current immigration policies are failing to meet the diverse and unique needs of Syrian
refugees. The purpose of this briefing note is to present recommendations regarding the resettlement
of Syrian refugees in Canada, as there is a need for improved health and social support services. Social
workers in particular have a crucial role in the resettlement and successful integration of Syrian
refugees in Canada.
Background Information and Summary of Key Points
In response to the ongoing conflict in Syria, the Government of Canada, private sponsors and other
organizations plan to resettle over 25,000 Syrian refugees (Government of Canada, 2016).
Refugee status is determined in accordance with the eligibility criteria and regulations ... Show more

Acculturation and integration is often a stressful process for both individuals and families (Lacroix,
2003). Therefore as social workers, it is vital to recognize and understand the history, traditions,
values, family structures and cultures of refugees, as those deeply rooted experiences shape and alter
their lives (Thomas Bernard Moriah, 2007).
Recommendations
Improve access to information on how to navigate necessary health and social services.
Offer health and social services in the client s own language, which may involve hiring Syrian
refugees with lived experiences, interpreters, and/or cultural brokers.
Implement mandatory education and training programs on the complex nature of resettlement and
integration to ensure health care and social service providers are practicing in a culturally competent
and safe way.

Gangs, are they good for our community?
Gangs, they re all around us,everywhere, and anywhere. How do us americans feel about gangs, and
their affects on our environment ? I m against gangs because of their affect on our youth. It affects the
youth causing distractions, peer pressure, and blocking opportunities for them. Gangs are one of the
top three causes of crime in America today. And gives America s crime system a lot of difficulty with

Argumentative Essay On Terrorism
In a new book written by Tony Blair s former chief of staff and chief negotiator in Northern Ireland,
Jonathan Powell, the author of Talking to Terrorists states there is no conflict in the world that cannot
be solved (p. 35). In this book, Powell draws on his wider experiences of conflict resolution to argue
that terrorism nearly always ends in negotiation, and that we waste much blood and treasure in failing
to recognize the need to talk to terrorists at a much earlier stage. Additionally, the former chief of staff
states the problem is not talking to terrorists, it is giving in to them (p. 37), and acknowledges that
there is a time to negotiate, and that time is often when a state of mutually hurting stalemate (p. 42)
has been achieved. Yet, he contends, that we waste much time in regarding terrorists as irreconcilable
and beyond the pale before we belatedly decide to talk.
The argument against negotiation with terrorist hostage takers is simple: it rewards terrorist behavior,
undermines the legitimacy of non violent political actors, and nullifies efforts to police terrorism
(Faure 2003; Neumann 2007). Because hostage taking acts under terror, hostage takers will challenge
legal authorities weakening and discrediting it (Faure, 2003). Governments usually prefer an
alternative, like combat, because it requires no concessions, grants no legitimacy, and is consistent
with the norm of punishing illegal violence (Pruitt 2007, p. 374).
Indeed, when a terrorist group does not receive wide support or is not tied to an ethnic/nationalist
constituency they are much less likely to survive policing and military operations. However, for those
groups that do experience support, the group can be hidden, resupplied, given moral justification, and
the population may contribute to the active members. Curfews, checkpoints, harsh policing efforts,
and collateral damage contribute toward alienating the population away from the suspect government.
Discontented people, ranging from inconvenienced to maimed, strengthen sympathy and support for
insurgent/terrorist groups who are viewed increasingly justified or morally right. In other words,
police and military options can easily create more support for such groups,

the main reason he mistreats Shylock is because he is a Jew. In addition, this shows that he is very
abrasive when it comes to Shylock because he has done so many terrible things to him over a period

and we were the Area Four Most Outstanding Unit. Knowing that I was apart of achieving this honor
is the most overwhelming feeling of accomplishment. This showed me that I was growing into
someone who could change a group of individuals into a team, and that was something I could have
never imagined before NJROTC. This skill would be put to it s ultimate test the coming summer,
when I was chosen to go back to Area Four Leadership Academy/Sail Training as a platoon aide for
Gold Platoon. At the end of those two weeks, I turned 38 cadets into one team, and that team was the
overall Honor Platoon, and won five out of the seven competitive events at LA/ST.
Now, as a senior, I had to face a more difficult choice, college. I applied for both the AROTC and
NROTC scholarships, with hopes that I would receive at least one. About a week before
Thanksgiving, I received an email from the US Army Cadet Command, stating Congratulations, you
have been awarded and AROTC Scholarship . Immediately, I started shaking and tears began to fill
me eyes. This was the sign that all of my hard work and growth had paid off. For three years I had

Essay on War on Terror
On september 11, 2001 there was an attack on America. Four airplanes were hijacked, two were
crashed into the World Trade Center in New York City, the third crashed into the Pentagon in D.C. and
the fourth got stopped by a passenger. It was the first terrorist attack on the U.S. soil. Thousands of
lives were lost that day. This attach was the most devastating act of belligerence on U.S territory since
the Civil War (Terrorism, 2011). This even had an enormous influence on America and its history. It
led to numerous short and long term effects. On September 20, 2001, former president George W.

TSA is able to open and search passenger s luggage for security screening, not many people like this
ability. In some cases the agents don t replace the locks or close them properly. TSA has two
companies make different kinds of locks that can be opened and relocked by special tools and
information by the manufacturer. A positive side to this note is that if a passengers TSA approved lock
is missing they can file a claim with form SF 95. (Security, 2010) People get irritated by this, because
no one wants people going through their personal belongings. Despite the fact that this is a simple way
to detect if someone is carrying a bomb, any other type of explosives or anything else that could be
dangerous boarding a plane.
In the beginning of November 2010 TSA added new screening procedures. The new screening
procedures were created because of the reactions of the Underwear bomber . That person smuggled
plastic explosives onto and airplane in December 2009. These procedures include the backscatter X
ray and the sliding pat downs. The backscatter X ray displays images of passenger s bodies. During
sliding pat downs officers screen passenger s breast, buttocks and genitals with the back of their hand.
All pat downs are done by a TSA officer of same gender of that passenger. And if requested the
procedure can be done in a private room. On November 23, 2010 TSA officials said that some U.S

Blue Collar Brilliance And The Busy Carter Analysis
Work and leisure, these are two integral parts of human life, however there is much debate about
which of them is more important as well as what the proper balance between them should be. Those
such as Mike Rose and Nicholas Carr, in their articles Blue Collar Brilliance and World and Screen
respectively, emphasis how the benefits of working, physically as well as mentally, are often forgotten.
On the other side, however, Tim Freider in his work The Busy Trap contends that leisure is just as
neglected in our fast paced world. Despite these seemingly different statements, these works share
quite a lot on when looks just below the surface. In Blue Collar Brilliance Mike Rose describes his
appreciation for the often unnoticed intelligence that many blue collar workers posses as well as the
positive impact that physical work can have on the lives of those taking part in it. Nothing he says
encapsulates this more than his description of his uncle Joe working on a car assembly line, For Joe
the shop floor provided what school did not; it was like schooling, he said, a place where you re
constantly learning. Joe Joe learned the most efficient way to use his body with a set of routines that
were quick and preserved energy. (1036). This parallels the findings of Carr in World and Screen
where he describes how by using our ancestral navigation abilities we keep our mind healthy mentally,
by working out the parts of the brain that are in charge of memory, and physically by

Within The Blues
James Baldwin s Sonny s Blues is a story of how a distant and conflicting relationship between two
brothers is saved by the powerful message within music. In Sonny s Blues the music portrays a very
powerful message. The story begins with Sonny being arrested for heroin use. Sonny s older brother is
a school teacher and did not want to believe that the news was true, I didn t want to believe that I d
ever see my brother going down, coming to nothing, all that light in his face gone out, in the condition
I d already seen so many others (Baldwin 293). Sonny used his music and drugs to distance himself
from all the negativity in his life. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although Sonny s addiction to drugs and love for music seemed similar because he used both to
escape reality, they were inevitably more different. The empowerment Sonny got from drugs was
nothing but an illusion, unlike the strength he gained from music. Sonny s Blues illustrates the ability
to stay sane through the power of music. Sonny s father died when he was fifteen and sadly He and
Sonny hadn t ever got on too well. And this was partly because Sonny was the apple of his father eye.
It was because he love Sonny so much and was frightened for him, that he was always fighting with
him (Baldwin 298). Sonny lost both his parents at a young age, which left him with his older brother
as his only family. Sonny s brother leaves for the army and ...already decided that he d have to move
in with Isabel and her folks (Baldwin 302). Sonny was not in favor of the arrangement but he really
did not have much of a choice. Sonny s brother cheered him up by saying, They got a piano at Isabel
s. You can practice on it (Baldwin 303). Sonny stayed with Isabel and her folks, who tolerated him out
of respect for his brother. Sonny s loneliness caused him to seclude himself from everyone around
him. Sonny used music to overcome the loneliness he felt. The music was how Sonny adapted to the
new unfamiliar environment. Sonny played the piano every day until supper time. His brother says

A Comparison of the Dramatic Monologues of Porphyria s Lover and My Last Duchess by Robert
Browning
Robert Browning (1812 89) was, with Alfred Lord Tennyson, one of the two most celebrated of
Victorian poets. His father was a bank clerk, and Browning educated himself by reading in the family
library. He published many verse dramas and dramatic monologues (poems, like My Last Duchess, in
which a single character speaks to the reader), notably the collections Men and Women (1855) and
Dramatis Personae (1864). His greatest success came in 1868 with The Ring and the Book a verse
narrative in twelve books, spoken by a range of different characters. In her lifetime his wife, Elizabeth

He is very jealous of Porphyria s contacts . He wants her all to him self, the easiest way for him to get
this is to kill her because then no one else can have her and she would have died being with him and
no one else.
The Duchess appears to be a very happy person, which finds joy in the tiniest things. We gain the
impression that she is a well bread woman, who takes pride in her appearance. The duke is very proud
of her appearance he describes all her beauty as he talks. The duke believes she is easily pleased too
soon made glad and the pleasing her made not always be coming from him, this makes him very
jealous.
The first we hear about Porphyria s appearance is when she has just entered from being in the rain, the
lover is describing every thing as it happened in great detail, about her hair and how it laid, etc.
Porphyira worshiped her lover at that point and he wanted it to stay that way, he loved her too much
for things to change, for her to find someone else to worship, he had to act at that time in order to keep
her to him self.
These poems are very powerful in the way they are putting across the love from the Duke and
Porphyria s Lover, they are both very jealous even though they properly have no reason to be but they
believe they do. Action must be taken to keep their lover s from anyone else, so they believe that they

Abstract Addiction knows no prejudice; it does not care what race, religion, sex or orientation. You
can be addicted to drugs, gambling, x box, shopping and eating. Addiction is an illness that requires,
for most, professional help and that once you are an addict you are always an addict.
Addiction is everywhere, from celebrity tabloids, to television, and possibly to a family member or
close friend. There is alcoholism, drug abuse, and gambling addiction; the effects of such are
devastating. The purpose of this paper is to address some of the different forms of addiction and types
of addictive behaviors.

When people who suffer from omniomania begin to feel anxious, nervous or depressed the go
shopping to make themselves feel better, they get a high from shopping, a high similar to that of drug
addicts. It is believed that shopping provides a stimulant of beta endorphines in the brain, which give
the person the high feeling. People continue to shop to gain the euphoric feeling and then can become
addicted to shopping. (Intili, 2004)
It is believed that about 6% of Americans have a shopping addiction; of the 6% 90% are women. To a
shopping addict trips to the mall become the main way to cope with stress, even when it is having a
negative impact on the rest of their life. The addiction will affect their relationships and finances.
(Omniomania: Shopping Addiction, 2010) It is a never ending merry go round; the stress from
relationships and finances just reinforces the urge to shop more in order to feel better.
Treatment for this addiction usually starts with financial counseling. The shopper is usually in denial
as to the amount of debt and or effect they shopping has had on their life and they need see it in paper
and admit to having a problem before any kind of counseling or therapy will work.
Gambling addiction also know as compulsive gambling is a type of impulse control disorder.

Essay On The Color Of The Physician s Skin
I have seen several occasions online specifically where the nurse or doctor is a person of color and the
patient outright refuses to be seen or touched by them simply because of the color of their skin. In my
opinion, this is a form of anchoring simply because the patient is taking a small amount of
information, the color of the physician s skin without looking at their work experience or
certifications. The specific issue I was referencing pertain to biases regarded the patients being treated
as incompetent because of the color of their skin and a doctor simply began over taking a patient
because the assumption was he knew better than the patients which might be true however, doing so
disrespected their wishes. Schroeder, elaborated on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Normally what is the age demographic of people in this profession? Yes, people should be smart
enough to treat every situation as different however, that is not always the case everyone has biases.
Jill Suttie expanded on these ideas directly pertaining to teachers however, they can apply to almost
any situation. (2016) The first step is admitting you have certain biases or ideologizes pertain to
certain groups of people that you simply don t apply to others. The second step is trying to view
someone else s perspective because at the end of the day they have feelings just like you. Prating kind
affirmations is also ideal don t go into any situation assuming the worst when you don t have all the
facts! (Suttie, 2016). Another form of bias that individuals might generally practice is assuming you
already know the answer with seeing all the variables. This tends to happen when an individual
becomes complacent. For example, if the flu is going around and a child presents some of the
symptoms if the physician was experiencing tunnel vision they would assume the patient had the flu
and not something more serious like meningitis. Or most people that I ve come across right off women
who are pregnant with their first child simply because every illness, or ailment warrants a doctor s

External Changes And Internal Reforms Of The Last 40 Years
This essay will show that the external changes and internal reforms of the last 40 years have led to the
retreat of the liberal democratic state. Perhaps, these changes and reforms have resulted in the revival
of the state, but overall this has not been the case. This is due to the fragmentation and diminished
accountability stemmed from the internal reform, new public management. Although the issue of
Europeanisation is raised when discussing the state s retreatment, I will focus on the topic of
globalisation. This is because of the loss of power, sovereignty and nationality the state has suffered.
The liberal democratic state has been in retreat due to its fragmentation and diminished accountability
caused by the internal reform: new public management (NPM). NPM is an attempt to reform the
public sector through the application of management techniques used in the private sector. In reality,
NPM is a loose concept, consisting of different economic reforms. (Osborne 2009) While the adoption
of NPM has had many advantages, there have been substantial unintended consequences from this
implementation. This internal reform has resulted in a fragmentation of the state that has led to blurred
and diminished accountability. Rhodes explains that within the UK civil service the role of officials is
increasingly constrained by new management systems and political controls. The obvious outcomes of
these changes are fragmentation and diminished accountability. (1994: 151) This

Euthyphro Pious Quotes
In Euthyphro by Plato, Socrates and Euthyphro discuss the ethics involved in putting his own father
on trial for murder. Through this, they discuss the idea of ethics combined with the divine. They
ponder what exactly makes an idea or practice pious, whether it be that the idea itself was already
pious or only pious because the gods liked it. One quote that caught my interest was when they are
discussing what is pious versus what is just. Socrates ponders, Is it where just is, there too is pious ?
Or where pious is, there too is just , but where just is, everywhere is not pious? (12d). Before this
quote, Socrates explains that there are a vast range of whole numbers, some odd and some even. In the
grand scheme of things, a number is

Pleistocene Ecosystem
During the Pleistocene many barriers to fish dispersal and recolonization already existed in the
western United States. The Rocky Mountain Range was formed before the Miocene and the Sierras
elevated in the Pliocene, both formidable North South barriers (Smith 1981). Along with these
significant geographic barriers, the western U.S. has historically had much smaller and more
climatically unpredictable basins compared to the east. These basins held lower populations of fish
which increased the probabilities of extinction and the lack of stability often interrupted speciation
(Smith 1981). Despite these factors, there is still some diversity that arose out of these basins largely

2; Echelle 2008). The three species diverged from one another in the last one million years, with C.
diabolis falling out most recently some 0.5 MYA. The speciation is believed to be allopatric, but there
is still some uncertainty regarding C. diabolis (Duvernell Turner 1998). The reason for this uncertainty
is that the cavern that C. diabolis currently inhabits, Devil s Hole, only opened to the surface around
60,000 years ago (Martin et al. 2016). It is possible that there was some degree of sympatric speciation
happening before a colonization event occurred or, because mtDNA was used to determine divergence
times, C. nevadensis could have been polymorphic for mtDNA before the cavern opened and was
subsequently colonized (Echelle 2008). So how did the allopatric speciation of the Death Valley
pupfish occur? Was it the result of dispersal or vicariance? When we examine figure 2 closely, we see
that although the Pleistocene lakes in the Death Valley region were extensive, they still might not have
connected all of the waterways. In addition, this map shows a summary of the lakes, that is to say that
all of them did not exist at the same time (Knott et al. 2008). Limited connectivity of waterways as
well as the late colonization and subsequent speciation of C. diabolis are potentially evidence against
the hypothesis for speciation through vicariance. On the other hand, pupfish are notoriously very poor
dispersers.

British Control Over The Suez Canal
In 1882, Great Britain took over Egypt through military invasions, making it a protectorate in order to
have control over the Suez Canal. The Suez Canal connected the British Empire in the west to India in
the east, making it significant trade route for Britain to control. During the Cold War, Egypt became an
area of great tension, challenging British control over the canal. There was an increase of nationalism,
along with the rise of Gamal Abdel Nasser to power. His rise to power lead to the Suez Canal Crisis
and Egypt s independence from Britain in 1956. The Arab Spring began in Tunisia in December, 2010,
eventually spreading to Egypt in 2011. British control over parts of Africa during the nineteenth
century lead to many crises in the 20th and 21st centuries, including the Suez Canal Crisis and the

The walls are closing in. The rooms are filling with more people. The air is stained with illness and

The Effect Of The Mouse And Gui On Society And Business
The Affect of the Mouse and GUI on Society and Business
How the Mouse and GUI Enabled Other Technologies
The rapid proliferation of computers has made both our social and business world more and more
convenient. Although the first modern significant kind of computer was introduced the world in the
1940s, the major event which has changed the history of human computer interaction was the advent
of the graphical user interface at Xerox PARC in the 1970s. Along with a pointing device, typically a
mouse, users are able to point to parts of the display. With the GUI which makes the interface to the
computer primarily a visual medium, the virtual world inside the computer is portrayed graphically on
the display. According to Shneiderman s the future of interactive systems and the emergence of direct
manipulation [1] in 1982, he describes the GUI paradigm as direct manipulation , which is a
breakthrough.
At the same time, under the influences of GUI and mouse development, multiple technology devices
are showing up for the world to use and changing the way of doing things in both social and business
life. For example, ATM systems are available for 24/7 banking, self check out systems are in many
supermarkets and self check in systems are at airports in addition to online purchasing and home
delivery available both major and niche retailers. Based on GUI, these systems have had a tremendous
influence on modern business bringing convenience and efficiency to both customers and

Mass Killings And Its Effects On Society
Contemporary society suffers from a wide range of problems nowadays. It is a fact that the human
development comes at the new stage of development, which starts to harm society. Nowadays there is
a considerable increase in gun abuse, violence, murders and thefts, which have a negative impact on
the society. There is no nation in the world, which can be confident in its safety from terrorism and
mass killings. Millions of people are worried about nation s welfare and prosperity regarding the
increasing number of mass killings. It is mandatory to study the essence of mass killings and its
reasons of the nationwide spread. In general, mass killings form a threat to the society not only in the
US, but in the whole world as well. Mass killings have become a problem, which emerged from the
country s level of development and country s internal processes. The nature of mass killings is hard to
predict. According to the statistics, the average age of a murderer is 33.5 years old. Despite this fact,
mass killings involve people of different ages and occupations. There is a vast percent of teenagers,
who commit murders within the walls of the school (Duwe, 2005). It may seem that gun access may
cause gun abuse and violence among residents, which later results in mass killings (Fox, 2013).
However, it is essential to see into the roots of the problem. Community believes that a free access to
gun results in violence and gun abuse. All life facilities have become extremely expensive, and

managers play a key role in intercollegiate athletics, but sports information directors are important as

Differences And Similarities Between Aristotle And Aristotle
Aristotle and Plato have been two of the most important philosophers, who have transcended their
writings to our culture. But inside they found several differences and similarities.
Ontology.
The fundamental difference between the metaphysics of Plato and Aristotle is that Plato concepts are
ideas, and Aristotle are ways. Plato thinks that there are two worlds, sensitive objects (sensible world)
and ideas (intelligible world). The latter world is providing a true knowledge, and which we can only
trust, while the second is based onDoxa or opinion.
Aristotle thinks that there is only one world, the sensible. This world is full of material things with a
form found in them. But his thinking is not far from Plato. Aristotle thought forms exist with
individuals, but do not disappear with the death of these (though eventually die with the passage of
time, so they are more permanent than individuals, which makes them more real). He also defended
the existence of the Unmoved Mover, which does not belong to the sensible and represents the most
real and permanent entity that exists, asthe idea Bien Plato.
Epistemology.
For Aristotle the forms are not eternal causes a big difference between these two philosophers in what
concerns the soul. Both thought the soul had three parts belonging to the intelligible world, but for
Plato the soul is eternal, immortal, like all ideas, while Aristotle the soul is eternal, it is a form is
mortal, corrupted and

Eventually, the conceivable changes of regulations and laws can either advantage or represent a
detriment for the tourism organisations that are operating internationally. However, another political
issue is visa limitations for the reason that in UK and the US, the migration has executed more strict
regulations making it harder for outsiders to acquire a traveller visa. Particularly after the 9/11 terrorist

The 1984 Anti Sikh Riots in India
The Anti Sikh riots in the 1984 year of riots had been anything in particular. People are aggrieved
when they hear of the incident and narrate stories of how runaway crime could have increased on
Sikhs during the time. The main reason for the advent of the riots was the shooting down of Mrs.
Indira Gandhi in morning of 31 October 1984. The riots had started off in the evening just after her
morning death. The information of the riots was already taken by Giyani Jail Singhji that meeting of
congress leaders Arun Nehru, HKL Bhagat and Jagdish Tytler and more were deciding to give a

The riots were a challenge to the government to counter the overt insurgency effects, people security

reason purported to be the fact on the riots gaining more fire. Officially, the 492 civilians as well as 83

discipline. The classical age discovered the body as an object and target of power. Generally docile
means ready to accept control or instruction (submissive) He tells us a body is docile when it is
subjected and trained with a lot of practise. He gives various methods about the control of the body
and brings out disciplines by the relation of docility utility, (Foucault, 137). He tells us many gestures

Large Events Of Philadelphia
Liabilities of Large Events
Philadelphia consistently ranks among one of the most popular cities in the United States, both in
terms of visitation and in terms of global recognition. This ranking is driven by prominent events in
the past, and 2016 will be no different. Events such as the papal visit and the democratic nomination
convention will inevitably influence Philadelphia s economy, and it has long been an accepted notion
that these events cause a positive impact. However, recent studies have begun to erode this
misconception. The disastrous papal visit proved the economic harm of large scale events, and in
events such as the upcoming Democratic national convention, Philadelphia shouldn t expect any
significant economic windfall. The large influx of tourists coming to city for large events repels local
citizens who consume from local businesses, resulting in local businesses being forced to fall behind
schedule.
The Papal visit was projected to generate 400 million dollars for the city, but instead exemplifies the
way in which super events can go awry (Debree 2). Pope Francis visited the city of Philadelphia from
September 26th through the 27th, and predictably paranoia ensued. Hundreds of thousands of people
flooded the city for the opportunity to watch the pope speak. The damage was assessed weeks later.
City controller Alan Butkovitz published an analysis in October of 2015 detailing the Papal visit s
economic impact and his conclusions were undeniably grim.

heart. Sadly, many people may never recognize Fred as the beautiful individual that he is, or what he
has to offer. While our society may call him chal lenged, I have come to recognize him as an
unexpected role model. For Fred, you see, is autistic. He does not interact well with people, and is
often unable to express his thoughts clearly or articulately. He doesn t understand why people laugh at
him. Yet even so, Fred is blessed with an acute sense of purpose and ... Show more content on

growing up in a dysfunctional home, he suffered from a lack of love and patient understanding. Still,
Fred s life revolved around his relationships and mathematics. Although he has few close friends,
people are indescribably important to him, and he always treated them with sensitivity and
compassion. Unfortunately, some people including but not limited to his peers (who can sometimes be
quite cruel) are unable to set aside their prejudices long enough to see his unique ness as the incredible
gift that it is. His enthusiasm and his indomitable spirit in the face of adversity taught me valuable
lessons lessons I will carry with me for the rest of my life. He taught me to live for what you truly
cherish, to be passionate about your dreams, and to always smile in both the service of others and
adversity. He has shown me the truest meaning of love for others, and the ability to understand and
always live for what is important. A trip that started with me taking care of him turned into a trip of

Camp Carp Psychology
The upbeat, innocent jingle of the Wiggle s theme song played in the background as I heaved a sigh,
slumping down onto the ground in exhaustion. Dylan laid on his bunk, completely lost to the world
while immersed in the show. Although it was already our break, my breathing was still heavy from the
events prior. I glanced at over at Kyle, my partnered counselor, who tiredly rubbed his face from his
position on another bed. Dylan had pulled another fit at naptime, and despite our efforts to convince
him to take a rest instead of overexerting himself, he hadn t been in the most compliant mood. After
countless times of being refused a trip to the horseback riding platform due to the arduousness of the
trek in the Central Texas heat and frequent absence of the horses Dylan had had the last straw with us.
His frustration quickly escalated into an all out cabin shoe fight between the campers, which was
exactly what it sounded shoes flung around as deadly projectiles. By the time the other counselors and
I had finally calmed it down, the cabin was in utter disarray.
It was my second week as a certified volunteer counselor at the Children s Association for Maximum
Potential, fittingly named Camp CAMP a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But in my parents teachings I found what proved to be just as paramount in my pursuit to show Dylan
the full camp experience: perseverance. Their lessons drilled into me tenacity, and the camp s basis
that camp is for the camper served as a mantra for self motivation. That night, I made a promise to
myself, as I sat in the dim light of the cabin porch after the campers had gone to sleep, filling out
Dylan s camper activity booklet, to uphold the fundamental purpose of CAMP providing opportunities
for campers who rarely experienced them elsewhere with the values I had embedded in my heart as a

Table Etiquette At Artigem Replacement Service
The dinner table is the center for the teaching and practicing not just of table manners but of
conversation, consideration, tolerance, family feeling, and just about all the other accomplishments of
polite society except the minute. We learned about the importance of table etiquette and manners
while visiting Thad Payne at St. Clair Country Club, also we learned about the importance of keeping
culture and a positive environment with Kurt Artinger at Artigem Replacement Services.
The week started at the new home base of Artigem Replacement Services. Mr Artinger talked to us
about the importance of fighting for what you want and never backing down from a challenge. Mr.
Artinger bought a historic but run down old YMCA building in downtown Belleville. ... Show more

Clair Country Club. He taught us about the importance of table etiquette, good manners show respect
for others. There are cultural differences of course but there is a broad agreement across the world.
Some people use a knife and fork one way, Americans who cut their food and use their fork another,
and Africans and Arabs who use their fingers. All traditional but perhaps not acceptable to use your
own method when in another country. Table manners are really important because you will eat in a
fashion that doesn t offend. Table manners doesn t just mean how to hold a knife or fork but how to
converse and with whom, thank serving staff verbally, when you can leave the table, what to do during
speeches and much more. Your level of knowledge necessary for good table manners also vary
depending on your status. Most people will enjoy a 3 or 4 course meals, but if you are attending
functions, dinners and banquets then you need to know about a whole raft of cutlery. I was actually
lucky enough to be the guinea pig in this situation and learn table etiquette for the first time. He told
me something that surprised me at first he said People notice everything. This is particularly true in
business relationships. In addition to great job performance, having good dining etiquette helps to
establish your credibility and reputation. It also helps to make you an accepted member of the business
group. And if you think about it, it helps build your self confidence. It s another skill to add to your
professional repertoire. I honestly did not believe people cared about the way I ate but he proved me

Fukyama V huntington Essay
Francis Fukuyama and Samuel Huntington are two of the most controversial and influential modern
political theorists of our times. Fukuyama s book, The End of History and the Last Man, and
Huntington s book, The Clash of Civilizations and the Remaking of World Order, pose two very
conflicting theories on international relations. In this paper I will summarize and compare/contrast the
two theories. Both theories, written since the fall of communism and updated since the first gulf war,
have been widely read, taught, praised and criticized
The End of History and the Last Man is a book in which Francis Fukuyama argues the controversial
thesis that the end of history, a time when class distinctions no longer exist, believing them to be the ...

To understand Fukuyama s theory one must look beyond the specific words. Fukuyama is not
claiming that history has or will end and that occurrences of history will cease to exist. He is saying
that democracy is such a perfect and Idealistic form of rule that no major change in political
philosophy can happen in the future. Historical occurrences will still exist, but they will be within the
realm of the current political philosophical thought. Fukuyama goes even further to prove his point by
showing that the new philosophies on government created since the oncoming of democracy,
(Communism, Socialism, etc.) have ultimately failed and democracy has prevailed in its place.
In the Clash of Civilizations and the Remaking of World Order, Samuel Huntington argues that the
primary political actors in the 21st century will be civilizations and that the primary conflicts will be
conflicts between these civilizations rather then between nation states.
Huntington Writes:
It is my hypothesis that the fundamental source of conflict in this new world will not be primarily
ideological or primarily economic. The great divisions among humankind and the dominating source
of conflict will be cultural. Nation states will remain the most powerful actors in world affairs, but the
principal conflicts of global politics will occur between nations and groups of different civilizations.
The clash of civilizations will dominate global politics. The fault lines between

No Model For Girls By Fiona Bawdon
The Fight to Look Flawless
Beauty standards in America are always changing and continuously on the rise due to society s
constant obsession with the perfect body image. This image is built upon the things we see in movies,
television shows, and magazines, which causes girls to feel the need to look flawless and set far
fetched goals for their physical appearance. Today s era marks tall, skinny and flawless faces as
beautiful, and if girls don t have any of these attributes, they truly believe that they aren t as beautiful
and will do whatever it takes in order to obtain that beauty. In today s ever so demanding society,
social media, flawless models, and pressure from not only peers but from family as well, have all
implemented a negative impact ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As defined by Merriam Webster, the definition of Photoshop is as follows: to alter (a digital image)
with Photoshop software or other image editing software especially in a way that distorts reality (as
for deliberately deceptive purposes) . Even the definition states that Photoshop distorts reality, yet
girls still think that models have the ideal body image. The real reality is that models set an
unattainable and unrealistic way for girls to look like. In No Model For Girls by Fiona Bawdon, the
author explores how models and Photoshop can negatively affect adolescent girls body image. The
author states that, magazine images are routinely airbrushed: thighs slimmed, wrinkles smoothed and
blemishes removed (29). How are adolescent girls not supposed to feel self conscious and compare
themselves to models when, in with a touch of Photoshop, models can look skinnier, have a flawless
face, and appear more beautiful? Another startling statistic that was in the same study conducted by
Marium Javaid and Iftikhar Ahmad, was that actresses and models had 10 15% less body fat whereas
the average body fat for healthy women is 22 26% (30). This displays just how extremely thin and
unrealistic these models are. The body fat for a healthy woman is 22 26%, yet girls still see
themselves as fat and continue to try and lose weight. This trend is growing more popular in today s
society, however, girls need to understand the importance of not comparing their own bodies to other
people. It is an unnecessary and potentially harmful comparison to

The Great Terror Robert Conquest Summary
With Robert Conquest s first edition of The Great Terror published in 1968, critics acclaimed that his
work was a spotlight on the atrocities wrought by the Soviet dictator Joseph Stalin. Since then, with
new sources and statistics coming forward, there have been two reassessments published by Conquest.
Regardless of edition, the author attempts to provide the reader a gripping account of Stalin s mass
purges where millions were murdered and millions more were sent to Soviet prisons in brutal,
inhumane conditions. Furthermore, to give the reader a well rounded view of this period Conquest
writes about more than just the gulags. He shares his research on the Moscow Trials, the vicious
methods for obtaining false confessions, life in the labor camps, and much more. These topics all
provide for a bleak picture of life in the former Soviet Union during the reign of the dictator Stalin. ...

As with any other use of first hand accounts, the reader is presented with a more potent form of
storytelling that is easily diluted when the author describes the action for the audience in their own
words. For example, Conquest quotes Polish politician Zbigniew Stypulkowski to describe the
appalling conditions in the Soviet prisons where with cold and hunger and almost no sleep, a man
becomes like an automaton his eyes are bright, his legs swollen, his hands trembling. In this state he is
often convinced he is guilty (pg. 125). By using such striking quotes, Conquest accomplishes two
things. First, using eyewitness accounts better retains the reader s attention by placing them directly in
the action with those who lived it. Second, these testimonies give more credibility to the author s work
by showing that the author s interpretations and the real life events support each

Authority Figures In The Film, Coach Carter
The film, Coach Carter directed by Thomas Carter, is based on the true story of a basketball coach in
Richmond, California. The basketball coach, Ken Carter, appeared on the news in 1999 when he
suspended his players from their basketball games because they cared more about basketball than their
grades. Through proper leadership, the players learned that it takes more than basketball to escape the
harsh reality of the inner city. They found that the right authority figures, proper ethics and academic
responsibilities will help them to defy the statistics of what happens to young men without proper
leadership. Majority of the players lacked leadership roles in the home. As stated in the movie, the
system is designed for these young men to fail. Coach Carter realized that there was a need for
discipline and he stepped up to the challenge. The system is designed for the players to fail because
there are authority figures who does not expect much from them. The school board and even their ...

They lacked respect for themselves, others and especially their elders. Also, they lacked unity and
proper sportsmanship. When Carter first took the coaching position, he taught the guys about
addressing themselves and others as sir which is a form of respect. One of the most important scene
was Coach Carter addressing the usage of the term nigga that the players commonly used.
Nigger/Nigga is a derogatory term used to insult our ancestors. If a white man used it, you d be ready
to fight. Your using it, teaches him to use it. These words are significant because nowadays, there are
people who uses the term as a trend but the underlying fact is that they are only showing that they lack
respect for themselves. The players were incapable of settling conflicts without resorting to violence.
This was demonstrated when there would be a trivial arguments and fights over simple things as
someone incorrectly passing the

The Fall of the Berlin Wall and the Disintegration of the...
Communism is defined as a political and economical doctrine, the aim which is to abolish private
ownership of property and for profit enterprise and to replace these with public ownership and control
of industry, agriculture, and resources ( Communism ). The product of this government is supposed to
be a society free of class ranking based on wealth, property, and political power. The Soviet Union
was the first country to test these governmental strategies and it did not take long for the regime to
collapse. The inevitable collapse of communism led to the fall of the Berlin Wall; this started the
domino effect of freedom that ultimately led to the collapse of the Soviet Union.

During the Soviet Union regime the health care system became socialized and citizens were allowed
to have full health care without charge. The Soviet Union was also the first country to have an equal
number of hospital beds to citizens (Hoeppler). Even though they had great access to heath care the
hospitals lacked the essentials needed for the hospitals to operate up to standards. In 1990, 24 percent
of hospitals did not have adequate pluming, 19 percent lacked central heat, 45 percent lacked
bathrooms or showers, 49 percent had no hot water, and 15 present operated without any water at all
(Hoeppler). These conditions were unacceptable according to Boris Yeltsin.
In June of 1991, Yeltsin won the presidential election in Russia. He became the first Russian leader to
stand in a legitimate election. Yeltsin inspired mass demonstrations against the 1991 attempt to
overthrow Gorbachev s, the president before him, government ( The Fall of the Soviet Union ). This
brought him popularity. Yeltsin decided to capitalize on his popularity by going forward with radical
reform policies. After doing things like banning the CPSU, confiscating CPSU s assets, and
distributing the state s assets to the populace. So, it did not take Yeltsin much time at all to start to
dismantle the Soviet Union ( The Fall of the Soviet Union ).
The fall of the Soviet Union became the most dramatic event of the twentieth century. With the Soviet
Union being the world s first communistic state it

  • 2. The Berlin Wall As A Physical Symbol Of The Political,... Assess the significance of the Berlin Wall as a physical symbol of the political, social and economic repression in East Germany, particularly East Berlin The Berlin Wall was a tangible physical symbol of escalating Cold War tensions between the democratic West and communist Eastern bloc, and its construction facilitated repressive political, social and economic impacts in East Berlin. On 13 August 1961, the Berlin Wall was suddenly sealed overnight separating the Soviet occupied eastern sector from the Allied occupied western sectors of Berlin and has remained in place until its fall on 9 November 1989. The Berlin Wall was a significant step in solidifying the oppressiveness of Soviet style socialism in the German Democratic Republic (GDR), reinforced by the Stasi as the main vehicle in perpetuating political repression. As a result of closing the Berlin Wall, infringements upon social liberties and the suppression of human rights arose in East Berlin. The Wall represented the GDR s unworkable socialist regime modelled around a planned economic system as well as the consequential devastating economic decline to East Berlin and the GDR. At the pinnacle of hostility and ideological conflict between the Soviet Union and the West, the Berlin Wall closed the remaining gap in the Iron Curtain, confirming the GDR s political stance and oppression. To the West, the Wall created influential propaganda evidencing East Germany as a disastrous state with citizens unwilling to live ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Career Blind Americans Students who come from black working class families are more likely to be career blind and underachievers. This was view expressed by Professor Emeritus Ramesh Deosaran at the Ministry of Education s Administrator s Conference at the Miracle Ministries Pentecostal High School yesterday. Deosaran, who was the feature speaker, told those present that the society is at a point where it needs to be rebuilt from scratch and teachers are the ones who can accomplish this feat. Many young boys and girls drift into gangs, drugs and other illicit behaviours mainly because they were mentally career blind, not possessing a career or occupational goal, Deosaran said during his address. It continues to be a tragedy that this career blind group, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I remember while interviewing Form Five students in an under performing school, we asked what career they aimed for. Some said policeman, others said join the army, driving tractor etc. One boy stood up and said A doctor, sir. You should have seen how the other children laughed at him, mocking him. That is a remarkable phenomenon, these children do not believe that they or anyone in their school can hope to be something like that. Questioned by media during a lunch break, Deosaran elaborated on his comments, saying, There are several factors that affect the education system for example: social class, economic differences, ethnic differences gender differences and even where the students are located, because you find in one district, for example, Victoria a high proportion of what you call the prestige schools exist, so all these factors, converge to create a disturbing degree of inequality in the education system. Deosaran said his conclusion was based on a report done in 1994 and research and observation over the years. Now we have found that over the years, about 20 years or more, that particular kinds of families are more disadvantaged than others. For example working class families, single parent families and students of African origin who are also from poor families are also ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Martha Stewart, Omni Media CEO, represents the company s image more than anything else; being tied directly to the company can damage reputation when the CEO is in the middle of a public scandal. After all, Stewart was an Icon to many women and her reputation is what helped her brand be so successful. Stewart then built a website in which where she tried to claim she was innocent but did not communicate effectively. Marthatalks.com, which is now unavailable, the site launched by her PR firm which began to show Stewart as a good natured person. The website contained letters from Stewart, fan mail, and case updates. This was able to make the public more aware of her situation and bring them hope that he would be okay. When she was sent to prison Martha Stewart compared herself to President Nelson Mandela as an example of the many good people who have gone to prison. While in Jail she would post letters about her life in prison so fans could read how she was doing; even though she went to prison she still retained a pretty loyal fan base. Omni media did some damage control and repositioned the brands image; Martha Stewart was taken off magazine covers, and her name was made smaller on other products. In an effort to stop the losses MSOL dropped the Letter from Martha in Living magazine and reduced the size of her name on the cover of the Magazine Stewart even decided to go to prison early against advice from her lawyers and this was another key tool in her communication. This finally showed people that she truly accepted her decisions and wanted to serve her time and move on; her fan base stayed by her side and this is what made the difference in her current success. Once Stewart was out of prison she became the spotlight of the company again. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Response Execution Essay Response Structure Karrie Colin AJS/562 January 28, 2013 George Wilson Response Structure Creating an emergency response plan is very important in any business. There are different plans for medical, fire, police, and school. The following plans are imperative in any environment. There are many things that will happen and Incident Command System (ICS) will help to provide the responders with an effective system that works. But before we go into the structures, an understanding of an incident command system needs to be addressed. According to OSHA, n.d., ICS is a standardized on scene incident management concept designed specifically to allow responders to adopt an integrated organizational structure equal to the complexity ... In this level, the responders are either sent back to the area they came from, set back in service after they transport a victim, or they are cancelled all together. The last level is termination. In this level, the incident commander decides that no further action is required and everyone is sent back to their units. The next thing we need to look at are the responsibilities of the incident commander. The first one, according to FEMA, 1999, is to rescue all victims. The second is making sure the victims are taken out of the situation and moved to a medical facility. And the third is to make sure the personnel are safe. Next we will look at fire and rescue. The organization of the incident command is almost the same as the medical responders. According to Fire and Rescue, 2008, the following are the organizational areas for fire and rescue: Organization on the incident ground, this gives the Incident Commander a recognized system from which to work when organizing and using resources at an Incident, Incident Risk Management, the principal consideration of Incident Commanders is safety of their personnel. There is evidence all over Mexico, which shows the first rituals to celebrate and honor the dead. Humanity is shaped deeply by religion and religion is shaped by society. Religion is used to construct and understand the world, including death. The preservation of the dead since ancient times shows the importance which was placed on the body and the need for the body to be intact when moving to the next realm. In spite of the fact that the majority of the American population appears quite healthy, over 32 million children are currently suffering from a chronic illness. According to njhealth.org, chronic illness is an illness that may last throughout a person s life, although the frequency and severity of symptoms can change. • 17. Argumentative Essay On Terrorism In a new book written by Tony Blair s former chief of staff and chief negotiator in Northern Ireland, Jonathan Powell, the author of Talking to Terrorists states there is no conflict in the world that cannot be solved (p. 35). In this book, Powell draws on his wider experiences of conflict resolution to argue that terrorism nearly always ends in negotiation, and that we waste much blood and treasure in failing to recognize the need to talk to terrorists at a much earlier stage. Additionally, the former chief of staff states the problem is not talking to terrorists, it is giving in to them (p. 37), and acknowledges that there is a time to negotiate, and that time is often when a state of mutually hurting stalemate (p. 42) has been achieved. Yet, he contends, that we waste much time in regarding terrorists as irreconcilable and beyond the pale before we belatedly decide to talk. The argument against negotiation with terrorist hostage takers is simple: it rewards terrorist behavior, undermines the legitimacy of non violent political actors, and nullifies efforts to police terrorism (Faure 2003; Neumann 2007). Because hostage taking acts under terror, hostage takers will challenge legal authorities weakening and discrediting it (Faure, 2003). Governments usually prefer an alternative, like combat, because it requires no concessions, grants no legitimacy, and is consistent with the norm of punishing illegal violence (Pruitt 2007, p. 374). Indeed, when a terrorist group does not receive wide support or is not tied to an ethnic/nationalist constituency they are much less likely to survive policing and military operations. However, for those groups that do experience support, the group can be hidden, resupplied, given moral justification, and the population may contribute to the active members. Curfews, checkpoints, harsh policing efforts, and collateral damage contribute toward alienating the population away from the suspect government. Discontented people, ranging from inconvenienced to maimed, strengthen sympathy and support for insurgent/terrorist groups who are viewed increasingly justified or morally right. In other words, police and military options can easily create more support for such groups, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Up until I was about fourteen years old, I planned on being a marine biologist in Hawaii. Sounds nice, right? Well, at the end of my eighth grade year I decided that I might as well join NJROTC, because all of my friends were doing it and it seemed okay. I have to say, looking back, I was quite naive. Blue Collar Brilliance And The Busy Carter Analysis Work and leisure, these are two integral parts of human life, however there is much debate about which of them is more important as well as what the proper balance between them should be. Those such as Mike Rose and Nicholas Carr, in their articles Blue Collar Brilliance and World and Screen respectively, emphasis how the benefits of working, physically as well as mentally, are often forgotten. Joe Joe learned the most efficient way to use his body with a set of routines that were quick and preserved energy. (1036). • 27. External Changes And Internal Reforms Of The Last 40 Years This essay will show that the external changes and internal reforms of the last 40 years have led to the retreat of the liberal democratic state. Perhaps, these changes and reforms have resulted in the revival of the state, but overall this has not been the case. This is due to the fragmentation and diminished accountability stemmed from the internal reform, new public management. Although the issue of Europeanisation is raised when discussing the state s retreatment, I will focus on the topic of globalisation. This is because of the loss of power, sovereignty and nationality the state has suffered. The liberal democratic state has been in retreat due to its fragmentation and diminished accountability caused by the internal reform: new public management (NPM). NPM is an attempt to reform the public sector through the application of management techniques used in the private sector. In reality, NPM is a loose concept, consisting of different economic reforms. (Osborne 2009) While the adoption of NPM has had many advantages, there have been substantial unintended consequences from this implementation. This internal reform has resulted in a fragmentation of the state that has led to blurred and diminished accountability. Rhodes explains that within the UK civil service the role of officials is increasingly constrained by new management systems and political controls. The obvious outcomes of these changes are fragmentation and diminished accountability. (1994: 151) This ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The speciation is believed to be allopatric, but there is still some uncertainty regarding C. diabolis (Duvernell Turner 1998). The reason for this uncertainty is that the cavern that C. diabolis currently inhabits, Devil s Hole, only opened to the surface around 60,000 years ago (Martin et al. 2016). It is possible that there was some degree of sympatric speciation happening before a colonization event occurred or, because mtDNA was used to determine divergence times, C. nevadensis could have been polymorphic for mtDNA before the cavern opened and was subsequently colonized (Echelle 2008). So how did the allopatric speciation of the Death Valley pupfish occur? Was it the result of dispersal or vicariance? When we examine figure 2 closely, we see that although the Pleistocene lakes in the Death Valley region were extensive, they still might not have connected all of the waterways. In addition, this map shows a summary of the lakes, that is to say that all of them did not exist at the same time (Knott et al. 2008). Limited connectivity of waterways as well as the late colonization and subsequent speciation of C. diabolis are potentially evidence against the hypothesis for speciation through vicariance. But inside they found several differences and similarities. Ontology. The fundamental difference between the metaphysics of Plato and Aristotle is that Plato concepts are ideas, and Aristotle are ways. Plato thinks that there are two worlds, sensitive objects (sensible world) and ideas (intelligible world). The latter world is providing a true knowledge, and which we can only trust, while the second is based onDoxa or opinion. Aristotle thinks that there is only one world, the sensible. The classical age discovered the body as an object and target of power. Generally docile means ready to accept control or instruction (submissive) He tells us a body is docile when it is subjected and trained with a lot of practise. He gives various methods about the control of the body and brings out disciplines by the relation of docility utility, (Foucault, 137). He tells us many gestures that are analogous to dancers. • 39. Large Events Of Philadelphia Liabilities of Large Events Philadelphia consistently ranks among one of the most popular cities in the United States, both in terms of visitation and in terms of global recognition. This ranking is driven by prominent events in the past, and 2016 will be no different. Events such as the papal visit and the democratic nomination convention will inevitably influence Philadelphia s economy, and it has long been an accepted notion that these events cause a positive impact. However, recent studies have begun to erode this misconception. The disastrous papal visit proved the economic harm of large scale events, and in events such as the upcoming Democratic national convention, Philadelphia shouldn t expect any significant economic windfall. The large influx of tourists coming to city for large events repels local citizens who consume from local businesses, resulting in local businesses being forced to fall behind schedule. The Papal visit was projected to generate 400 million dollars for the city, but instead exemplifies the way in which super events can go awry (Debree 2). Pope Francis visited the city of Philadelphia from September 26th through the 27th, and predictably paranoia ensued. Hundreds of thousands of people flooded the city for the opportunity to watch the pope speak. The damage was assessed weeks later. City controller Alan Butkovitz published an analysis in October of 2015 detailing the Papal visit s economic impact and his conclusions were undeniably grim. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 40. Interview With John Nash After spending a week with John Nash, I may have stumbled upon a central purpose of my life. Well, not nobel Laureate John nash himself, but whenever I describe Fred, their characteristics seem quite parallel. Fred is unique, possessing an indomitable spirit to fulfill his dreams without fear of failure. not only is he the most brilliant young man I have ever met, he exhibits a genuinely compassionate heart. Sadly, many people may never recognize Fred as the beautiful individual that he is, or what he has to offer. While our society may call him chal lenged, I have come to recognize him as an unexpected role model. For Fred, you see, is autistic. He does not interact well with people, and is often unable to express his thoughts clearly or articulately. He doesn t understand why people laugh at him. Dylan laid on his bunk, completely lost to the world while immersed in the show. Although it was already our break, my breathing was still heavy from the events prior. I glanced at over at Kyle, my partnered counselor, who tiredly rubbed his face from his position on another bed. Dylan had pulled another fit at naptime, and despite our efforts to convince him to take a rest instead of overexerting himself, he hadn t been in the most compliant mood. After countless times of being refused a trip to the horseback riding platform due to the arduousness of the trek in the Central Texas heat and frequent absence of the horses Dylan had had the last straw with us. Fukuyama s book, The End of History and the Last Man, and Huntington s book, The Clash of Civilizations and the Remaking of World Order, pose two very conflicting theories on international relations. In this paper I will summarize and compare/contrast the two theories. Both theories, written since the fall of communism and updated since the first gulf war, have been widely read, taught, praised and criticized The End of History and the Last Man is a book in which Francis Fukuyama argues the controversial thesis that the end of history, a time when class distinctions no longer exist, believing them to be the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To understand Fukuyama s theory one must look beyond the specific words. Fukuyama is not claiming that history has or will end and that occurrences of history will cease to exist. He is saying that democracy is such a perfect and Idealistic form of rule that no major change in political philosophy can happen in the future. Historical occurrences will still exist, but they will be within the realm of the current political philosophical thought. Fukuyama goes even further to prove his point by showing that the new philosophies on government created since the oncoming of democracy, (Communism, Socialism, etc.) have ultimately failed and democracy has prevailed in its place. In the Clash of Civilizations and the Remaking of World Order, Samuel Huntington argues that the primary political actors in the 21st century will be civilizations and that the primary conflicts will be conflicts between these civilizations rather then between nation states. Huntington Writes: It is my hypothesis that the fundamental source of conflict in this new world will not be primarily ideological or primarily economic. The great divisions among humankind and the dominating source of conflict will be cultural. Nation states will remain the most powerful actors in world affairs, but the principal conflicts of global politics will occur between nations and groups of different civilizations. No Model For Girls By Fiona Bawdon The Fight to Look Flawless Beauty standards in America are always changing and continuously on the rise due to society s constant obsession with the perfect body image. This image is built upon the things we see in movies, television shows, and magazines, which causes girls to feel the need to look flawless and set far fetched goals for their physical appearance. Today s era marks tall, skinny and flawless faces as beautiful, and if girls don t have any of these attributes, they truly believe that they aren t as beautiful and will do whatever it takes in order to obtain that beauty. Even the definition states that Photoshop distorts reality, yet girls still think that models have the ideal body image. The real reality is that models set an unattainable and unrealistic way for girls to look like. In No Model For Girls by Fiona Bawdon, the author explores how models and Photoshop can negatively affect adolescent girls body image. The author states that, magazine images are routinely airbrushed: thighs slimmed, wrinkles smoothed and blemishes removed (29). How are adolescent girls not supposed to feel self conscious and compare themselves to models when, in with a touch of Photoshop, models can look skinnier, have a flawless face, and appear more beautiful? Another startling statistic that was in the same study conducted by Marium Javaid and Iftikhar Ahmad, was that actresses and models had 10 15% less body fat whereas the average body fat for healthy women is 22 26% (30). This displays just how extremely thin and unrealistic these models are. The body fat for a healthy woman is 22 26%, yet girls still see themselves as fat and continue to try and lose weight. This trend is growing more popular in today s society, however, girls need to understand the importance of not comparing their own bodies to other people. The Great Terror Robert Conquest Summary With Robert Conquest s first edition of The Great Terror published in 1968, critics acclaimed that his work was a spotlight on the atrocities wrought by the Soviet dictator Joseph Stalin. Since then, with new sources and statistics coming forward, there have been two reassessments published by Conquest. Regardless of edition, the author attempts to provide the reader a gripping account of Stalin s mass purges where millions were murdered and millions more were sent to Soviet prisons in brutal, inhumane conditions. Furthermore, to give the reader a well rounded view of this period Conquest writes about more than just the gulags. He shares his research on the Moscow Trials, the vicious methods for obtaining false confessions, life in the labor camps, and much more. In this state he is often convinced he is guilty (pg. 125). By using such striking quotes, Conquest accomplishes two things. The basketball coach, Ken Carter, appeared on the news in 1999 when he suspended his players from their basketball games because they cared more about basketball than their grades. Through proper leadership, the players learned that it takes more than basketball to escape the harsh reality of the inner city.
