Tamora Pierce Analysis
Critiquing Pierce: Best Aspects of Her Work
Tamora Pierce is a fiction author for young adults who has written over twenty eight novels all of
which include her vivid depiction of magic, beautiful fictional lands and an overall message of young
women empowerment. In the first series she ever wrote, called the Song of the Lioness Quartet, the
third book completely exemplifies her overall tone and message, especially in the specific passage I
chose for Writing I Love. Throughout the passage, which is mostly dialogue, Pierce demonstrates
several key conflicts that further develop throughout her novel: that of a young female warrior in an
extremely misogynistic society, and how the protagonist wants to portray herself to the world.

self are very apparent throughout the novel for Alanna, who doubts that she can ever succeed as well
as a boy would or that she will be accepted as a female knight. She left the palace on an adventure of
self discovery and because of unforeseen circumstances revealed during this passage, she will have to
force herself to return to her previous life sooner than she had obviously hoped. If ever, she thought
with a terrible feeling of homesickness. It is vital, Ali Mukhtab whispered, leaning close, because the
end of my life draws near. Before I complete my last illness, Prince Jonathan must become the Voice
of the Tribes. Alanna feels as if she can t possibly return to court now that she has revealed that she is
in fact female and not male, like everyone had believed for so long. Although she is internally
conflicted; she must not only now be influenced by herself but also by those in need close to her.
Tamora Pierce is an exemplary young adult fantasy novelist and after completing one of her novels,
readers are left with a satisfied feeling of completing a grand adventure. She ties her novels together,
intertwining characters or places from past plot lines into her newer pieces of writing. Pierce gives her
female readers a young same gendered role model, especially in this series, who strives for greatness
and always stands up for herself as a young

Acetaminophen Is A Common Pain Reliever And Fever Reducer...
Acetaminophen is a common pain reliever and fever reducer used to treat conditions such as head,
muscle or toothache, as well as colds, fevers, and even arthritis. It is available in a many tablet form to
be ingested. These tablets are manufactured by a large variety of pharmaceutical manufactures
including a great deal of generic brand companies. These tablets all have the same active ingredient in
acetaminophen, yet each hold different inactive ingredients that can impact the overall performance of
the drug. These inactive ingredients affect the overall chemical stability of the tablets and can lead to a
faster decrease in potency of the acetaminophen tablet over time making the tablet less viable of an
option to treat common aches and pains. Storage outside the range of the recommended temperature
could greatly increase this rate of degradation.
This is an important experiment for what it means to NASA and the International Space Station, as it
will allow them to more accurately understand whether acetaminophen is a viable drug that should be
taken onto the International Space Station and on other missions, possibly missions related to Mars,
where conditions are not ideal. Additionally, this research would allow NASA to determine if it would
be safe for their astronauts to take acetaminophen past the expiration date or if the expiration date
even matters, given the conditions that they were stored, and for how long. Also, it would help NASA
determine which brand they

Remark: This illustrates an important point. The fair price of a stock cannot be determined by the risk
neutral pricing, as seen below. Suppose S1 (H) and S1 (T ) are given, we could have two current
prices, S0 and S0 . Correspondingly, we can get u, d and u , d . Because they are determined by S0 and
S0 , respectively, it s not surprising that risk neutral pricing formula always holds, in both cases. That
is, 1+r−d u−d S1 (H) S0 = + u−1−r u−d S1 (T ) 1+r , S0 = 1+r−d u −d S1 (H) + u −1−r u −d S1 (T )
1+r . Essentially, this is because risk neutral pricing relies on fair price=replication cost. Stock as a
replicating component cannot determine its own fair price via the risk neutral pricing formula. 1.4.

precisely, we solve the equation (1 + r)(X0 − ∆0 S0 ) + ∆0 S1 = −(S1 − K)+ . 1 Then X0 = −1.20 and

of the most successful ways that the Ste. Genevieve faculty collaborates together concerns their

the curriculum process of Ste. Genevieve R II. The following items will be addressed within this

Ste. Genevieve R II has all three forms of curriculum. The formal curriculum is composed of various
documents saved to Google Drive. Information used to achieve this formal curriculum includes the
following documents: the Missouri Learning Standards for the departments, the Missouri Learning
Standards Crosswalk showing standards and alignment, the Missouri Learning Standards Terminology
for various departments, curriculum checklists, information about backward design, pacing guides,
unit/lesson plan documents, and assessments. The informal curriculum is present at Ste. Genevieve R
II, but it is not in documented form. The values of the teachers creating the curriculum play a role in
its development and implementation. Each teacher brings their own style into the classroom; as a
result, the curriculum is followed, but it is followed in different ways as teachers place their individual
teaching style into their instruction. For example, when teaching skills about literary theme, one
teacher might include a specific piece of literature based on student interest. Another teacher might not
include the same piece of literature, but the concept of theme will still be an aspect of their lessons.
Another example might be in regards to teaching other kinds of lessons that are

Hair Additions
How we now see Hair Additions
With the benefits of technology, we now have a wide selection of wigs and hair addition to let our
creative minds wonder about all the way we can style and maintain these additions. There are many
lengths, styles, colours and textures of hair additions you could buy/rent. Wigs are also very cheap
compared to their ancestors and new age technology has allowed us to create wigs that are weaved to
create an ultra light and hyper ventilated wigs. The finish of the hair additions all depends on how you
maintain the hair e.g. heat damage whilst styling or styling /finishing products. The finish is also
dependant on the material; we typically see human hair additions or synthetic additions being used as
animal hair/plant fibres is no longer seen as necessary to use and there is no real demand for these
anyway. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

down on synthetic wigs however these people are misinformed as a high quality synthetic wig can
look very natural and appealing. Synthetic hair is easily taken care of due to their quality of style
retention meaning they never have to be styled and unlike human hair the hair will never change form.
These wigs are also very cheap and low maintenance. To maintain a synthetic wig you would wash,
dry and then shake the wig out. The cons of a synthetic wig would be if one brought/rented a cheap

cannot be treated with heat unless you look to get a heat friendly synthetic wigs and finally you can t

Puritans And Puritans Essay
The most known acts of cruelty in the power of the people are the various punishments dealt out by
the Puritans. Then you have the Quakers they weren t just men appearing on labels of oatmeal bins;
they were chosen to be on the label because the Quaker faith projected the values of honesty, integrity,
purity, and strength. However, the Puritans and Quakers both traveled to the New World to escape
religious prosecutions. John Winthrop, leading the Puritans, wanted a more purified state and society,
giving them the name, Puritans. William Penn, leading the Quakers, wanted to spread their beliefs
through themselves. They questioned leaders, resulting in leading themselves. Both had different
views of reconstructing a new society, religion, and government. Religion was important to the
Quaker and Puritans, but how far they took it made them different. Instead of fighting to purify the
Church of England, the Puritans just traveled to the New World. They settled in the Massachusetts
Bay Colony, which is Boston today. They were able to start over and do it the right way, but everyone
had to practice the bible or be punished. In their purified eyes, the Church back in England was
embracing too many Catholic beliefs. Puritans had zero tolerance and took religion very seriously,
making them a theocracy after leaving that in the first place. They were led by John Winthrop. On the
other hand, the Quakers were known as the friends. They believed everyone had their own inner light

I think also it goes to a different mindset, because typically those workers were working in an

Interviewer: Right. Brian: Depending on which crystal ball you are looking at, that will help. Those
policy changes and I know unemployment is a potential issue, but the federal level money coming
down obviously effects things. In the ninety there was more federal money coming down for programs
than there is now. Crystal ball, I think the continuous improvement model is going to fortunately

Body Ritual Among The Nacirema By Miner
Effective communication has many aspects that can be described as either transparent or a hidden
unknown, which in many readings it describes how ambiguity is a necessary evil in communications.
The Triangle of Linguistic Structure can give phonology meaning form, semantics the value of
meaning, and pragmatics that feature the intention to uncertain communications. The direct statements
of saying someone is dead, can be harmful so they use etiquette to give reason to use a buffer and
instead say they have moved away. For a literary example I will use Who am I this time? by Vonnegut
and Body Ritual among the Nacirema by Miner, for both readings use ambiguity to hide an allegory of
communication concepts. The Body Ritual among the Nacirema

For leasing warehouses in the other five locations, including that in St. Louis, increasing the number
of the facilities but not the size would have higher responsiveness. More facilities close to the end user
can shorten the response time and the transportation cost can be lower. However, the facility cost will
increase by building more new warehouses. The inventory cost will increase too, since the
decentralized inventory will be greater than consolidate all the inventories in one big warehouse.
Therefore, leasing more facilities beside in St. Louis will be more responsive but less efficient for the
company.
Analysis
In the following part, the total cost will be calculated for Option 1: Leasing more warehouse space in
St. Louis itself and Option 2: Leasing warehouses all over the United States. The total cost for the next
three years of both options included the facility cost, inventory holding cost and the UPS charges. In
the calculation, we assumed that the inbound transportation costs of shipments from suppliers were
stay the same for both options. Also, we assumed that the delivery is between warehouses to end users
only. The transportation cost between warehouse to warehouse is not in the case.

Extraordinary Meaning In The Mercy By Orhan Pamuk
Ordinary Objects, Extraordinary meaning
Man s sentimental attachment to object is one of life s greatest consolations. by Orhan Pamuk explains
how objects with emotional meanings can often provide comfort to an individual during difficult
times. This ties in with the poem The Mercy by Philip Levine in multiple ways, in which the most
significant one would be how an orange became such a symbolic item to the author s mother through a
series of events. There s always some things that we would never give away, and perhaps the worth
would only increase with time. An ordinary object can have influential and precious meanings that
worth much over its monetary value depending on the individual and the memories generated from
this tangible possession.
The Mercy has shown a lot of morals and insights towards life that I deeply agree in accordance with
Philip Levine. Starting with the poem s title The Mercy , it has given me wonders about what mercy as
a noun could possibly mean. Thankfulness? Benevolence? However, when the orange was introduced,
my doubts were answered immediately due to the fact that ...a young Scot... taught her the word...
patiently over and over again . Being patient enough to teach someone such an easy word
demonstrates kindness in both accepting foreigners who hasn t encountered such things and showing
lenience. The orange embodies the Scot s mercy and metaphorically, a symbol of comfort during the
girl s uneasy trip to the US. But it only had its meanings beyond just a citrus fruit from the fact that
she chose to accept it and taste the sweet juice. Or the compassion of human nature. During her long
autumn voyage she has experienced tragic events including a smallpox outbreak, but how she
managed to survive could have been almost impossible without the psychological support that she has
received from the young Scot earlier, through a physical orange. Her unforgettable experience on The
Mercy impacted her maturity and would continue to influence her worldviews. Through this
bittersweet journey, she was taught with having hope and enjoying and cherishing the little things.
Like an orange.

John Brown Research Paper
Hello Everyone,
John Brown was a revolutionary abolitionist who felt very strongly about ending slavery. He was born
in 1800 and died in 1859. His birthplace was Torrington, Connecticut. He belonged to a very loving
family with very strong anti slavery beliefs. He tied the knot twice and brought forth 20 children from
those unions.
Brown had several business endeavors that failed. In 1842 he filed bankruptcy. He began working as a
conductor with the Underground Railroad in order to support the abolitionist cause. He also started the
League of Gileadites, which was organized to aid runaway slaves fleeing to Canada. He later moved to
a free black farming community in New York.
In 1856, at the age of 55, Brown and his sons moved to Kansas Territory, John Brown accompanied by
a small army of his four sons and two other men set out along the Pottawatomie Creek and brutally
murdered five men and boys whom they believed were promoting slavery. Later on Brown raided
Missouri, where he murdered a slave owner and freed 11 of his slaves. ... Show more content on

Modern Family Vs. Present Family Essay
1950s Family vs. Present Family There is always that one question that has been on everyone s mind,
what does a real family look like? What is a family? What are mothers supposed to do? fathers?
children? What are their gender roles? Well, during the 1950s, there were many families whom
believed that the show I Love Lucy portrayed the perfect family, but that was back in the good old
days . It has been more than 50 years and there are still current shows today that portray a perfect
family, in different ways. The American television series, Modern Family portrays one big perfect
straight, gay, diverse, traditional family. These televisions hit series are informing the audience how a
perfect family is supposed to be but some in a positive way and others in a negative way. Well, the real
answer is that the 1950s were not the good old days . For example, in the television hit series, Modern
Family , episode 2 and 3 season 1, portrays an imagine of what the key is to being a great dad . The
first family (Jay, Gloria and Manny) take a while to respond to this question but towards the end of the
episode Jay says, Sometimes things work out just the way you want. Sometimes they don t. You have
to hang in there. 90% of being a dad is just showing up . The way Jay responds to the question shows
that he is very sympathetic and wants Manny to still view his father, Javier, as the prince he describes
as. Javier was not able to take Manny to Disneyland and let Jay know,

English And English Linguistic Imperialism
In contemporary society, there is an increasing number of people speaking English and there has been
much discussion on the issue of whether English users are the victims of linguistic imperialism.
Historically, English was regarded as a lingua franca and it has the same function nowadays (Kachru,
1985, cited in Jenkins, 2014). In addition, linguistic imperialism is related to English in this essay.
Although English users could profit from the spread of English and English linguistic imperialism
indeed brings some advantages, some others still hold the view that English users are victims of this
trend to some extent. This essay will demonstrate that in spite of the risks of speaking English cannot
be ignored, there are also several benefits brought out by English linguistic imperialism . In other
words, this essay will show that English users are not victims of English linguistic imperialism to
some extent. One of the main reasons which interprets globalisation of English is advantageous is
English providing some opportunities for international students. According to Bolton (2011), the
significance of globalisation of English cannot be neglected. Meantime, the growth of English
medium instruction is rapid, which is possibly the main driving force behind ELF. That is to say, it
seems that English is important in the teaching process, especially in universities. For example,
Jenkins (2014) suggests that a plenty of international students could communicate with each other

Disneyland Is The Most Successful Amusement Park
Disneyland is the most successful amusement park in the world. Since the original park opened in
1955 more than a half billion people have visited the Disney theme parks worldwide, making it the
most visited theme park in history. It is a symbol of global Americanization and cultural
expansionism. American pop culture is prevalent all over the world and Disneyland is the perfect
representation of this notion. Tourist from all over the world come to America and enjoy the Disney
theme park experience and soon enough new Disneyland parks will be built around the world.
Tokyo Disneyland
Once Disney discovered the amount of Japanese tourist that visited the Disneyland parks in America,
it was inevitable that the Disney Corporation would build a theme park overseas. In 1962, the
Japanese company, Oriental Land Co. (OLC) approached Disney with the idea of building a theme
park in Japan. The Walt Disney Company licensed Disney characters and other copyrighted material
to Tokyo Disneyland; however, Oriental Land Co. owns and operates the amusement park.
Tokyo Disneyland was built on the reclaimed land in the Tokyo bay area and was predominantly
designed after the Walt Disney World resort in Orlando, Florida. It was marketed that it was a 100%
replica of the American Disneyland, which also encompassed selling only American food and Disney
products inside the park. OLC s objective was to create the feeling that visitors would be taking a

the time you are stepping onto the field. The most common sport that athletes are being injured is in
the sport of football. The reason is because it is so widely played by all ages, from Pop Warner all the
way to the NFL. The NFL is doing everything they can to prevent head injuries in the sport of football.
Every time an athlete strap on his helmet and walks onto a football field, he is putting his body at risk
of serious injury, but there are steps that have been taken to minimize the seriousness of those injuries.
Factors that have played big roles in keeping athletes safe from head injuries include safer helmet

concussions much more seriously. NFL players with concussions undergo balance/symptoms test and

NFL also has many more doctors than college teams which make sure that the NFL athletes are being

The Perimeter Of The United States
Pusan Perimeter Beginning on August fourth of 1950, and lasting until September eighteenth of the
same year, the North Koreans waged a battle against the United States and UN forces. The UN forces
along with the United States were forced back to the Pusan Perimeter, a defensive line set up around
the very southeastern tip of the Korean Peninsula. Inside of this protected area was the port of Pusan.
The UN troops, which consisted of the Republic of Korea, The United States, and the United
Kingdom, were forced to retreat to the Pusan Perimeter between August first and third, 1950. The US
troops fought their very best when they were on the roads and in formation. The US troops also fought
best with heavy equipment. The major difference when it came to the North Koreans was that many
were skilled at guerrilla warfare, having learned to fight it against the Japanese during their occupation
of Korea, and they were skilled at such things as nighttime attacks and were more mobile fighters than
the UN troops. The NKPA, which stands for North Korean People s Army, were a group of soldiers
that used a lot of infiltration. They were good at getting into the enemies forces and killing them from

The Sexual Function Of Laboratory Animals
Abstract
Castration in males may be the result of disease or injury. It is expected that after a castration
procedure, the males will lose sexual function. In this experiment there were seventeen male rats
randomly distributed into three groups; sham group (N = 5), castrated and oil group (N = 4) and
castrated and testosterone group (N = 7). The control group received a sham operation and bi daily
injections of oil to show that it was not a surgical procedure or bi daily injections that caused the
lowered production of testosterone. As expected sexual function was able to be restored in the
castrated males by giving bi daily supplementation of testosterone hormone at the same rate that
testicles would normally produce this hormone. The castrated males that did not receive the
testosterone injections but had received the bi daily injections of oil, did not have successful
restoration of their sexual function. Studying sexual function in laboratory animals is important to be
able to develop ways to supplement hormones in humans and to restore sexual function in those who
have suffered an injury or disease that resulted in a castration procedure. Introduction
Sexual function is dependent on the testosterone levels produced by the interstitial cells of the testicle.
The role of testosterone deficiency in sexual function can be directly linked to diseases of reproductive
organs, injury, certain medications and aging factors. Males and females face this problem more

results showed that the mere exposure based group significantly increased both liking and

Another study looked at the effects of media images on television and the effects it has on female s
perception of their body image. In this study, the participants were asked how many hours of
television they watched a day, then how many of these programmes were ones with characters in that
have perfect physiques, such as 90210 etc. then the bmi of each participant was taken and was
compared with how much television they watched and how much of this television contained media of
body images. The results in this study suggested that the media did have an impact on body
dissatisfaction. Adolescent girls based their ideal body images on characters on the television that have
the perfect skinny body image. When the participants questioned their body image after the exposure,
it made them feel worse about themselves and strive to have the perfect body image. [4]
There also seems to be a lot more media in relation to the perfect female body image compared to the
male body image. Also, a lot more females seem to be known for having eating disorders in the media
than males.

Women s Influence On The Church Of Women
The role of women in Christianity is directly related to the lack of rights and equality women have
faced and continue to face in society today. Patriarchy and androcentric ideas about God featured in
scripture are the foundation of female oppression despite the several similarities between God and
women. The oversight of women s resemblance to God is responsible for the oppression of women in
Christianity. Throughout scripture, there is maternal imagery of God in relationship to their love for
children, compassion, and ability to provide for others; thus, proving the significance of women in the
church. Without Mothers, the humankind would not exist. Per Christian belief, God is responsible for
the presence of all creatures: the survival of others depends on her initiative and her industry (Johnson
100). Mothers create children just as God created Adam and Eve. Another example of God and
Mother s co creation is Julian of Norwich s third revelation: that as truly as our lord God, almighty
wisdom, all love, has made everything that exists, so truly he does and brings about everything that
has done (Dutton, 37). This is a prevalent theme throughout Christianity and is widely supported by
theologians. If it is true, God s responsibility of creation is identical to the strictly biological purpose
of women. Unfortunately, when women are either unable to or choose not to procreate, the fact that
maternal thinking is a moral activity leaves these women feeling

Properties of Ammonium Compounds
All ammonium compounds, which contain an ammonium ion (NH4+) and a negative ion, are
thermally unstable. A. Discuss two ways that ammonium compounds decompose when they are
heated. What chemical reaction is involved in the thermal decomposition of ammonium persulfate?
The ammonium ion is known for exhibiting unique thermal decomposition reactions when heated
because there are a considerable number of stable crystalline salts of the ammonium ion [14798 03 9]
NH+4 (Clintern, 2007). Ammonium acetates emit toxic ammonia fumes when heated, while
ammonium bicarbonate decomposes below its melting point, dissociating into ammonia, carbon
dioxide, and water (Clintern, 2007). There are some ammonium salts, such as ammonium dichromate,
ammonium permanganate, ammonium nitrate, and ammonium nitrite, which undergo an oxidation
reduction reaction after being heated: (NH 4 ) 2 Cr 2 O 7 ( s ) Cr 2 O 3 ( s ) + 4H 2 O ( g ) + N 2 ( g )
In the case of ammonium persulfate, (NH4)2S2O8, it has been observed under laboratory conditions
that upon thermal decomposition ... ammonium persulfate can potentially generate NOx species upon
thermal decomposition (UNEP Publications, 2005). B. What is the most likely reason OSHA requires

Hamlet Film Comparison
Hamlet Film Comparison
William Shakespeare s Hamlet, a play that has been turned into films numerous times by many
directors, is one of the most admired plays written by Shakespeare. Kenneth Branagh and Franco
Zeffirelli are both known for their adaptations of William Shakespeare s Hamlet. They have both
created two completely different and unique films from the same widely known play. Based on the
interpretation of the Ghost, the character of Ophelia, as well as Hamlet s To be or not to be speech,
Franco Zeffirelli s adaption of Hamlet proves to be significantly superior to Kenneth Branagh s film.
The way in which Zefirelli and Branagh s Hamlet film adaptations display the Ghost of Hamlet s
father differ significantly. In Zeffirelli s film, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Zeffirelli s adaptation, Ophelia is constantly being portrayed as small and fragile. For instance, she
is shot from a high angle, making her appear more defenseless and powerless. Zeffirelli s choice of
casting Helena Bonham Carter as Ophelia reinforces the idea of innocence since she appears to be
very young and naïve. Throughout the film, Ophelia is constantly being shown separate from
everyone else, which hints at her impending insanity in the hands of Hamlet. By leaving Ophelia and
killing her father, Hamlet causes her to be truly isolated and alone. Close to the end, Zeffirelli shows
Ophelia as an unstable girl driven mad by Hamlet s cruel tactics and her father s murder. When
Gertrude sees Ophelia through the window, she sees how truly mad she has become. Dressed in dirty
rags and speaking nonsense, her innocence seems to be lost when she acts in a sexual manner towards
one of the guards by grabbing his belt. As Ophelia sings during the mad scene, Gertrude is very
clearly frightened by what she sees. The camera close ups also separate Ophelia from everyone else by
showing the singular response of everyone to her madness. Her loneliness and irrational behaviours
causes the audience to empathize with Ophelia. Although the effect that she has on the film is overall
very emotional, she makes the audience see Hamlet in an unflattering light as the one who drove her
to madness. Ophelia brings about the idea of crumbling innocence, thus making this scene more

The Buddha s Spiritual Journey
The Buddha only claimed his title of the awakened one through his spiritual journey, which began
when the illusion of his sheltered life was broken upon realizing the inescapable realities of human
existence. As old age, sickness and death became apparent as the various stages of human life, this
initial understanding of existential suffering carries on as the underlying principle of the Buddha s
teachings. Sarvam anityam, meaning that all things are transient, illustrates the fundamental concept
the Buddha applies to reject the idea of ātman as the eternally existing self and essence of the sentient
being. This no self doctrine, anātman, was a radical stance originating in an era of embedded eternalist
thought, following the Vedic traditions and philosophy of the Upaniṣads. This rejection of ātman
offers a path as a middle way, the Dhamma, between the self indulgence of eternalism and self
mortification according to materialist thought such as Cārvāka. I will attempt to demonstrate how the
Buddha s mandate allows for divergence from the obsession of the self through his anātman stance, to
instead focus on the individual s present relationship with the natural world, which offers a more
meaningful perspective on current existence that the Upaniṣads and Cārvāka cannot account for. The
Upaniṣads does not offer a concrete understanding of the true self, but rather describes it as an
unidentifiable entity and defines ātman by what it is not, as the Katha Upaniṣad states, he

Virginia Woolf Influences
Sometimes authors lives are almost as interesting as the work they produce, and Virginia Woolf s life
is a tremendous example of this. As a woman writing in the early 20th century, Woolf offers a unique
voice that speaks both to her own fascinating life and to the historical moment in which she was
writing.
Woolf was born in 1882 in London, and throughout her life she had the opportunity to surround
herself with London s elite thinkers. She began writing early and published her first novel, The
Voyage Out, in 1915. She would go on to write numerous novels, short stories, and works of
nonfiction. Some of her most influential writings include Orlando, A Room of One s Own, and Mrs.

Woolf s own work reflects many of the ideals of the modernist movement. Her narration is defined by

  • 2. Tamora Pierce Analysis Critiquing Pierce: Best Aspects of Her Work Tamora Pierce is a fiction author for young adults who has written over twenty eight novels all of which include her vivid depiction of magic, beautiful fictional lands and an overall message of young women empowerment. In the first series she ever wrote, called the Song of the Lioness Quartet, the third book completely exemplifies her overall tone and message, especially in the specific passage I chose for Writing I Love. Throughout the passage, which is mostly dialogue, Pierce demonstrates several key conflicts that further develop throughout her novel: that of a young female warrior in an extremely misogynistic society, and how the protagonist wants to portray herself to the world. Pierce s writing ... She left the palace on an adventure of self discovery and because of unforeseen circumstances revealed during this passage, she will have to force herself to return to her previous life sooner than she had obviously hoped. If ever, she thought with a terrible feeling of homesickness. It is vital, Ali Mukhtab whispered, leaning close, because the end of my life draws near. Before I complete my last illness, Prince Jonathan must become the Voice of the Tribes. Alanna feels as if she can t possibly return to court now that she has revealed that she is in fact female and not male, like everyone had believed for so long. Although she is internally conflicted; she must not only now be influenced by herself but also by those in need close to her. Tamora Pierce is an exemplary young adult fantasy novelist and after completing one of her novels, readers are left with a satisfied feeling of completing a grand adventure. She ties her novels together, intertwining characters or places from past plot lines into her newer pieces of writing. Pierce gives her female readers a young same gendered role model, especially in this series, who strives for greatness and always stands up for herself as a young ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Acetaminophen Is A Common Pain Reliever And Fever Reducer... Acetaminophen is a common pain reliever and fever reducer used to treat conditions such as head, muscle or toothache, as well as colds, fevers, and even arthritis. It is available in a many tablet form to be ingested. These tablets are manufactured by a large variety of pharmaceutical manufactures including a great deal of generic brand companies. These tablets all have the same active ingredient in acetaminophen, yet each hold different inactive ingredients that can impact the overall performance of the drug. These inactive ingredients affect the overall chemical stability of the tablets and can lead to a faster decrease in potency of the acetaminophen tablet over time making the tablet less viable of an option to treat common aches and pains. Storage outside the range of the recommended temperature could greatly increase this rate of degradation. This is an important experiment for what it means to NASA and the International Space Station, as it will allow them to more accurately understand whether acetaminophen is a viable drug that should be taken onto the International Space Station and on other missions, possibly missions related to Mars, where conditions are not ideal. Additionally, this research would allow NASA to determine if it would be safe for their astronauts to take acetaminophen past the expiration date or if the expiration date even matters, given the conditions that they were stored, and for how long. Also, it would help NASA determine which brand they ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Stochastic Calculus Solution Manual Stochastic Calculus for Finance, Volume I and II by Yan Zeng Last updated: August 20, 2007 This is a solution manual for the two volume textbook Stochastic calculus for finance, by Steven Shreve. If you have any comments or find any typos/errors, please email me at yz44@cornell.edu. The current version omits the following problems. Volume I: 1.5, 3.3, 3.4, 5.7; Volume II: 3.9, 7.1, 7.2, 7.5 7.9, 10.8, 10.9, 10.10. Acknowledgment I thank Hua Li (a graduate student at Brown University) for reading through this solution manual and communicating to me several mistakes/typos. 1 1.1. Stochastic Calculus for Finance I: The Binomial Asset Pricing Model 1. The Binomial No Arbitrage Pricing Model Proof. If we get the up sate, then X1 = X1 (H) = ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Remark: This illustrates an important point. The fair price of a stock cannot be determined by the risk neutral pricing, as seen below. Suppose S1 (H) and S1 (T ) are given, we could have two current prices, S0 and S0 . Correspondingly, we can get u, d and u , d . Because they are determined by S0 and S0 , respectively, it s not surprising that risk neutral pricing formula always holds, in both cases. That is, 1+r−d u−d S1 (H) S0 = + u−1−r u−d S1 (T ) 1+r , S0 = 1+r−d u −d S1 (H) + u −1−r u −d S1 (T ) 1+r . Essentially, this is because risk neutral pricing relies on fair price=replication cost. Stock as a replicating component cannot determine its own fair price via the risk neutral pricing formula. 1.4. Proof. Xn+1 (T ) = = ∆n dSn + (1 + r)(Xn − ∆n Sn ) ∆n Sn (d − 1 − r) + (1 + r)Vn pVn+1 (H) + q Vn+1 (T ) ˜ ˜ Vn+1 (H) − Vn+1 (T ) (d − 1 − r) + (1 + r) = u−d 1+r = p(Vn+1 (T ) − Vn+1 (H)) + pVn+1 (H) + q Vn+1 (T ) ˜ ˜ ˜ = pVn+1 (T ) + q Vn+1 (T ) ˜ ˜ = Vn+1 (T ). 1.6. 2 Proof. The bank s trader should set up a replicating portfolio whose payoff is the opposite of the option s payoff. More precisely, we solve the equation (1 + r)(X0 − ∆0 S0 ) + ∆0 S1 = −(S1 − K)+ . 1 Then X0 = −1.20 and ∆0 = − 2 . This means the trader should sell short 0.5 share of stock, put the income 2 into a money market account, and then transfer 1.20 into a separate money market account. For example, when teaching skills about literary theme, one teacher might include a specific piece of literature based on student interest. Hair Additions How we now see Hair Additions With the benefits of technology, we now have a wide selection of wigs and hair addition to let our creative minds wonder about all the way we can style and maintain these additions. There are many lengths, styles, colours and textures of hair additions you could buy/rent. Wigs are also very cheap compared to their ancestors and new age technology has allowed us to create wigs that are weaved to create an ultra light and hyper ventilated wigs. The finish of the hair additions all depends on how you maintain the hair e.g. heat damage whilst styling or styling /finishing products. • 7. Puritans And Puritans Essay The most known acts of cruelty in the power of the people are the various punishments dealt out by the Puritans. Then you have the Quakers they weren t just men appearing on labels of oatmeal bins; they were chosen to be on the label because the Quaker faith projected the values of honesty, integrity, purity, and strength. However, the Puritans and Quakers both traveled to the New World to escape religious prosecutions. John Winthrop, leading the Puritans, wanted a more purified state and society, giving them the name, Puritans. William Penn, leading the Quakers, wanted to spread their beliefs through themselves. They questioned leaders, resulting in leading themselves. Both had different views of reconstructing a new society, religion, and government. Religion was important to the Quaker and Puritans, but how far they took it made them different. Instead of fighting to purify the Church of England, the Puritans just traveled to the New World. They settled in the Massachusetts Bay Colony, which is Boston today. They were able to start over and do it the right way, but everyone had to practice the bible or be punished. In their purified eyes, the Church back in England was embracing too many Catholic beliefs. Puritans had zero tolerance and took religion very seriously, making them a theocracy after leaving that in the first place. They were led by John Winthrop. Body Ritual Among The Nacirema By Miner Effective communication has many aspects that can be described as either transparent or a hidden unknown, which in many readings it describes how ambiguity is a necessary evil in communications. The Triangle of Linguistic Structure can give phonology meaning form, semantics the value of meaning, and pragmatics that feature the intention to uncertain communications. The direct statements of saying someone is dead, can be harmful so they use etiquette to give reason to use a buffer and instead say they have moved away. More facilities close to the end user can shorten the response time and the transportation cost can be lower. However, the facility cost will increase by building more new warehouses. The inventory cost will increase too, since the decentralized inventory will be greater than consolidate all the inventories in one big warehouse. Neonatal nurses like registered nurses are required to do clinical training during school. Neonatal nurses also have to do skill labs and intensive training. Neonatal nurses need a lot of clinical experience, mentorships, and preceptor programs. Training might take anywhere from six weeks to three month to complete depending on how much prior work experience. We were sitting on the chairs waiting to aboard our second flight, that will later then take us to Las Vegas, Nevada, for our NYAA Cheerleading Nationals. The NYAA Cheer Nationals is the biggest competition of our season, and in order to go, you have to place top 3 at Regions and State, and get the bid to go. We were really excited to be there this year. The team went to Myrtle Beach last year for 2016 Nationals, but this was before I was on the team. At the 2016 Nationals, they hit 0, and had no deductions and still did not even place. So when we went into Nationals, we did not even think that we were gonna place top 5. The goal was to place top 3, and the dream was to get first. We had a lot of fun because a lot of us got there like about 3 days before the actual competition. So, we would go to the pool and or just walk around because there was a food court and bowling alley, so we would have fun. We would just run around and eat all day and have team bonding time. • 17. Extraordinary Meaning In The Mercy By Orhan Pamuk Ordinary Objects, Extraordinary meaning Man s sentimental attachment to object is one of life s greatest consolations. by Orhan Pamuk explains how objects with emotional meanings can often provide comfort to an individual during difficult times. This ties in with the poem The Mercy by Philip Levine in multiple ways, in which the most significant one would be how an orange became such a symbolic item to the author s mother through a series of events. There s always some things that we would never give away, and perhaps the worth would only increase with time. An ordinary object can have influential and precious meanings that worth much over its monetary value depending on the individual and the memories generated from this tangible possession. The Mercy has shown a lot of morals and insights towards life that I deeply agree in accordance with Philip Levine. Starting with the poem s title The Mercy , it has given me wonders about what mercy as a noun could possibly mean. Thankfulness? Benevolence? However, when the orange was introduced, my doubts were answered immediately due to the fact that ...a young Scot... taught her the word... patiently over and over again . Being patient enough to teach someone such an easy word demonstrates kindness in both accepting foreigners who hasn t encountered such things and showing lenience. The orange embodies the Scot s mercy and metaphorically, a symbol of comfort during the girl s uneasy trip to the US. But it only had its meanings beyond just a citrus fruit from the fact that she chose to accept it and taste the sweet juice. Or the compassion of human nature. During her long autumn voyage she has experienced tragic events including a smallpox outbreak, but how she managed to survive could have been almost impossible without the psychological support that she has received from the young Scot earlier, through a physical orange. Her unforgettable experience on The Mercy impacted her maturity and would continue to influence her worldviews. Through this bittersweet journey, she was taught with having hope and enjoying and cherishing the little things. Like an orange. In addition, linguistic imperialism is related to English in this essay. It is expected that after a castration procedure, the males will lose sexual function. In this experiment there were seventeen male rats randomly distributed into three groups; sham group (N = 5), castrated and oil group (N = 4) and castrated and testosterone group (N = 7). The control group received a sham operation and bi daily injections of oil to show that it was not a surgical procedure or bi daily injections that caused the lowered production of testosterone. As expected sexual function was able to be restored in the castrated males by giving bi daily supplementation of testosterone hormone at the same rate that testicles would normally produce this hormone. The castrated males that did not receive the testosterone injections but had received the bi daily injections of oil, did not have successful restoration of their sexual function. Studying sexual function in laboratory animals is important to be able to develop ways to supplement hormones in humans and to restore sexual function in those who have suffered an injury or disease that resulted in a castration procedure. Patriarchy and androcentric ideas about God featured in scripture are the foundation of female oppression despite the several similarities between God and women. The oversight of women s resemblance to God is responsible for the oppression of women in Christianity. Throughout scripture, there is maternal imagery of God in relationship to their love for children, compassion, and ability to provide for others; thus, proving the significance of women in the church. Without Mothers, the humankind would not exist. Per Christian belief, God is responsible for the presence of all creatures: the survival of others depends on her initiative and her industry (Johnson 100). Mothers create children just as God created Adam and Eve. Another example of God and Mother s co creation is Julian of Norwich s third revelation: that as truly as our lord God, almighty wisdom, all love, has made everything that exists, so truly he does and brings about everything that has done (Dutton, 37). This is a prevalent theme throughout Christianity and is widely supported by theologians. If it is true, God s responsibility of creation is identical to the strictly biological purpose of women. • 35. The Buddha s Spiritual Journey The Buddha only claimed his title of the awakened one through his spiritual journey, which began when the illusion of his sheltered life was broken upon realizing the inescapable realities of human existence. As old age, sickness and death became apparent as the various stages of human life, this initial understanding of existential suffering carries on as the underlying principle of the Buddha s teachings. Sarvam anityam, meaning that all things are transient, illustrates the fundamental concept the Buddha applies to reject the idea of ātman as the eternally existing self and essence of the sentient being. This no self doctrine, anātman, was a radical stance originating in an era of embedded eternalist thought, following the Vedic traditions and philosophy of the Upaniṣads. This rejection of ātman offers a path as a middle way, the Dhamma, between the self indulgence of eternalism and self mortification according to materialist thought such as Cārvāka. I will attempt to demonstrate how the Buddha s mandate allows for divergence from the obsession of the self through his anātman stance, to instead focus on the individual s present relationship with the natural world, which offers a more meaningful perspective on current existence that the Upaniṣads and Cārvāka cannot account for. The Upaniṣads does not offer a concrete understanding of the true self, but rather describes it as an unidentifiable entity and defines ātman by what it is not, as the Katha Upaniṣad states, he ...
