Oral History Interview
The individual I chose to interview for my oral history project was actually the Vice Principal of my
school and his name was Mr. Clair. During our interview, he relayed to me the experiences he went
during the Civil Rights Movement. What I was told during this interview was surprisingly different
from what I was expecting, I was expecting to hear stories about how my interviewee witnessed many
people of color being abused and segregated to the extremes. However, what I heard was a bit calmer
than that and surprisingly, did not involve much violence at all. Mr. Clair told me about how he was
only a young boy, around ten years old when the civil rights movement began to take off and in his
school the main reaction he had was utter dismay. It was shocking and ... Show more content on

This was amusing to me because the Civil Rights Movement was having a direct impact on his life.
This forced him to make the choice to either support this movement that was occurring in his school
or just go on with his life. Being the young boy he was, my interviewee didn t really have a reaction to
this decision, he did what his parents decided to do. That isn t surprising because most children
usually follow their parents, however; what made this so interesting was the fact that his parents made
the decision not to do anything about the actions going on around them. If I was put in this same
situation I would probably do the same thing my interviewee did, just stay neutral and don t actively
participate in any actions against the Civil Rights Movement. I would do this because I am a person
who tends to mind my own business unless something actually has an effect on my life. In this
situation, having colored kids leave my school isn t really something that would hinder the quality of
my education, therefor; causing me to do

Teens And Gang Violence
About one third of every community experiences some sort of gang violence (Tucker). Although, it
may not directly affect one specific community. It is making a great impact on the new generation.
Gang violence among teens has become more prevalent in today s society. For example, during the
summer of 2017 in Lancaster South Carolina, five teenagers were murdered by other teens in gang
affiliated behaviors. Thus, resulting in imprisonment. The question is how we punish these teens.
Should they receive the death penalty for committing an act of murder? Or should they spend the rest
of their lives in prison with a chance of being released back into society. What is the value of their
lives? Understand they are in the prime of their lives. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Philosopher Michel Foucault s work Discipline and Punish speaks about the changes punishment and
discipline have taken. Punishment has always been used to discourage criminals from unlawful acts.
In the beginning, punishment was aimed at the body through things like corporal punishment. Now
with prison systems in place, the aim is at what Foucault calls the soul . Foucault questions if these
new methods of punishment and discipline are indeed affective.
Commonly the criminals who receive death penalties have committed an act of terrorism, hate crimes,
or murder. There are currently thirty one states in which the death penalty is legalized, including South
Carolina. In the state of South Carolina, by law, a person receives the death penalty when murder is
committed with one of twelve aggravating circumstances. A person who is convicted of or pleads
guilty to murder must be punished by death, or by a mandatory minimum term of imprisonment for
thirty years to life. If the State seeks the death penalty and a statutory aggravating circumstance is
found beyond a reasonable doubt pursuant to subsections (B) and (C), and a recommendation of death
is not made, the trial judge must impose a sentence of life imprisonment ( Code of Laws ).
The support for and against the death penalty is equally weighted. Those who are for the death penalty
say that it creates both specific and general deterrence. Deterrence is the action of discouraging an
action or event

Nocodazole Synthesis Lab Report
We hypothesized that the cells would uptake LDL and transferrin the most at 37°C for an incubation
period of 30 minutes. According to our results, we hypothesized correctly. This means that at this
temperature and rate, the cells would get the most drug delivery. We also hypothesized that higher
concentrations of nocodazole would have more of an effect on receptor mediated endocytosis. This
was also proven correct by our results. The cells that were treated with the nocodazole inhibitor, didn t
take up as much dye compared to the cells that weren t treated the nocodazole. When designing an anti
cancer drug, the results that were found in this experiment need to be considered. It was found that the
cells were more likely to uptake the drugs at a higher temperature. In particular the uptake of LDL and
transferrin was the most successful at 37°C. This temperature is noted as the body temperature. These
results make sense because tumors grow in the human body, so the anti cancer drugs need to be the
most effective at this body temperature. There have been many experiments that have tested the same
principles that were performed in this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are many things that could have gone wrong when conducting these various experiments. A
wrong amount of PBS or paraformaldehyde could have been used which would alter the results. Also,
cells could have been lost throughout the experiment. This would sway the results because there
wouldn t be as many shown in the microscope slides. Also counting up the cells to determine which
ones were involved with cell uptake could have been done incorrectly. The appearance of these cells
on the microscope can be very hard to determine and count. So the numbers found in the results all
came from a personal judgment. This is the main source of error because these numbers determine the
total outcome of the

The Seven Functions Of Management
For any organization (in this case, health organization) to succeed, survive or thrive, there must be
effective and efficient management on the part of the leadership. Management is an essential
component of any organization because it is the component that directs and coordinates the current
activities of the organization and also makes provisions on the plans for the future.
Business dictionary.com (2015) defines management as organizing and coordinating the activities of
business with the sole aim of achieving its defined objectives. It is the act of bringing people together
in other to achieve the desired objectives and goals in an effective and efficient way.
Management can also be defined as the ability or procedures made to achieve the goals of an
organization by bringing people together, coordinating them ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

These fourteen principles are still in use till date as He (Fayol) is still considered as one of the most
powerful contributors to the present day management concept (Mind tools, 2015).
2.1.2 Functions of Management
For management to be effective, it should be able to creatively solve problems, motivate
employees/workers and be able to achieve the organizational goals and objectives. It consists of
various components and activities which are useful to every manager without regard to their level or
status.
There are seven functions of management that I will like to discuss below; each functions are
inseparable because each one depend on the other. These management functions are:
Planning: It is a process which involves setting the aims, mission statement and objectives of the
organization and how they will be achieved. Nothing can be achieved without proper planning.
Planning outlines what tasks to do, when to do it and how to perform the tasks. Planning is based on
the short and long term successes of the organization (Purnell,

Why The United States Has Only Two Major Political Parties
Final Exam Essays
Essay Prompt 1: Discuss why the United States has only two major political parties.
The United States government is commonly referred to as a Duopoly , which means that there are two
established political parties, Democratic and Republic, and that these two parties share the vast
majority of the political power in the country. This is because the United States follows a winner takes
all voting system, utilizing a single member district plurality . The single member district portion
means that for each geographic area or district, there is only one elected official, and the plurality
portion means that in United States elections, the representative or politician who receives the most
number of votes, wins the given election, even if it s less than half the percentage of votes. According
to Duverger s law, a Political Science principle, plurality voting procedures correlationally support the
emergence of only two political parties, in contrast to a multiparty democracy.
This is largely because there have only been two parties for so long, and these two parties have made
it such a point to make their separation of ideals and beliefs blatant, so the vast majority of the voters
have for the most part picked a definitive side , so to speak, and have registered as a member of the
corresponding political party, that caters the most to their individual ideals. Because of this, it has
made it very hard for any smaller parties to gain enough support to

Extinction Of The Dinosaurs
The mass extinction of the Cretaceous period
The debate over what happened to the dinosaurs have been one of the most controversial research
topics in history. One minute, the earth was blooming with countless trees and a healthy environment,
then, in the period of seconds, all life on earth was wiped out, creating a mass extinction across the
globe (Bond, 2017). Discovering what ended the cretaceous period has been a major priority in the
scientific world, however, with enough modern day research, scientists have nailed the extinction of
the Dinosaurs down to two major theories; the asteroid impact theory, and the volcanic eruption
theory, both being extremely alike.
As research has been undertaken, scientists have evaluated all possible theories, distinguishing that
there are two major possibilities; the volcano theory and the asteroid impact theory. Both theories are
highly comparable, yet both have distinguishing qualities that indicate their differences. The Volcano
theory, affecting the wide spread area of India has been proven as a major factor to the discovery of
why the dinosaurs became extinct. Research indicates that 65 million years ago, monstrous lava beds
called Deccan traps covered the surface of the earth, over an area of 500 000 square kilometres
(Weishampel, 2017).
Each lava bed released unimaginable amounts of noxious gases, leading to a block of sunlight in the
atmosphere, resulting in all plant life on earth dying out. As a result of all plants having

Alborum Plumae Research Paper
Early yesterday morning, a previously undiscovered species was found above the snowline in the
Mount Kosciuszko National Park, New South Wales. The discovery was made by a the well known
biologist, Dr. Ella Beard, who upon curiosity of observing the snow fixed abnormally firmly to tree
branches, climbed the tree and discovered these small feathered creatures perfectly disguised as
cumulated snow.
The creature, now known scientifically as Alborum Plumae, hides perfectly as snow lumps on tree
branches. It is believed to spend the majority of time in a stationary position, only using its wings for
flight from predators.
Many of the Alborum Plumae traits are easily comparable to birds. They has a thick layer of down
insulation, allowing them to retain warmth while sedentary, zygodactyly feet for gripping branches,
pneumatic bones to aid in flight, huddling behavior for retaining warmth, and wings for escaping
predators. It is not completely bird like however, as it has sharp incisors for eating hard nuts found in
gum trees in surrounding areas, and has four legs. It has not yet been confirmed which class this
animal belongs to. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In this position, the wings of the Alborum Plumae lower around the curve of the branch to look like
snow, and protect their otherwise exposed feet. When moving, the creatures mainly climb along
branches, gripping with their sharp claws. This movement seems to only take place in low visibility.
The only other observed behavior to date is in flight, when threatened directly by predators. In these
circumstances, the whole group (known as a storm) take flight simultaneously and fly to safety. This
was only observed by Dr. Ella Beard when she disturbed

Battle Of The Wilderness Essay
The Battle of the Wilderness was the first part of a major offensive strategy by a new Union General
in Chief, Ulysses S. Grant. Grant never planned to fight the Confederates at this time. His main goal
was to begin marching towards the Confederate capital, Richmond, Virginia. This was all part of
Grant s plan known as the Overland Campaign. The overall goal was to keep Confederate Commander
Robert E. Lee s famous Northern Virginia Army occupied with defending their capital so that Lee
would not be able to send soldiers to stop the another Union army from invading Georgia. Therefore,
Grant only wanted to get to the Confederate capital of Richmond. However, while trying to slip by
Lee, Grant got his army caught up in a fight in a dangerous area ... Show more content on

Although Grant had 115,000 soldiers and Lee had only 65,000 troops, knowledge of the dangerous
terrain could become more valuable than the number of troops. The actual battle began the morning of
May 5th, 1864. The fighting was wild and chaotic due to the thick undergrowth and many trees
making it nearly impossible for one man to move swiftly, forget about an entire army. There were men
on both sides who got so lost that they accidentally went into enemy camps and were taken as
prisoners. Many of the wounded fell into the thick undergrowth and got stuck, later being burned and
killed by fires due to rifle fire. When night arrived, the battle was inconclusive, meaning neither side
had a clear winner. However, the Union managed to gain a position in which they could attack Lee s
right wing. Grant ordered for them to attack at 4 am the next morning. So ends the first day. On the
second day of the battle, May 6th, 1864, reinforcements arrived for both sides. The Union s planned
attack on Lee s army was slightly postponed from 4am to a little later than 5am so that commanders
could have more time to organize their troops after the previous day s fierce

The Operating System Of A Computer
The Operating System of a computer. How does it work many say, what does it do other say. The
operating system or some people in the world also call it the OS, which mean the same. The OS is the
first program that gets installed and booted on to a new computer. The purpose of an operating system
is so that the end user can interact with the computer and hardware, helping him/her use the right
software/apps needed depending on what operating system they are using. The OS helps you multi
task on you PC, so you can run multiple software at the same time. The function of a operating system
gives commands to the hardware and also tells how much resources to use from the hardware to
complete the needed tasks. The OS manages all the connected hardware in your PC such as hard
drives, a mouse, keyboard, displays a cursor on the screen which allows you to navigate threw the
system much easier. Now a days we see fancy and colorful screens with a bunch of icons and windows
that users use to help get around files and other programs assisting them to complete their daily tasks.
The operating systems of the 21st century are easy to navigate because most operating systems now
have a GUI which stands for Graphical User Interface, which allows users to see icons, windows,
folders, files systems and much more instead of just a command line with black and white blinking
text like back in the older days. For example, lets say you want to transfer your pictures from your

The Hindu Temple Of Atlanta
A Hindu temple contains a very different religious experience compared to what I ve previously
experienced in the past. Perhaps the most obvious difference comes from just how individual it can be
compared to a group service for example. While there is a portion of the service that is led by a priest
for the vast majority of your stay the experience is really upon you and you alone. While there are
traditions to follow it s still a unique experience. During my attendance at the Hindu temple of Atlanta
I almost assuredly didn t follow all of the customs and traditions but nevertheless, did my best to at
least not offend my hosts. The experience was alien compared to anything else I ve ever experienced
in this capacity and to be honest ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The setup of this temple was similar to the other with deities lining the outer perimeter. In this area
after circling the building was led into an inner chamber with a few followers. Eight people were
placed to the right and the left of entry way to this sanctum and the priest was ritually chanting
something. After a time he began ritually feeding the deity by offering a small amount of liquid before
it s mouth before pouring it into a basin above. He then takes a flame and spins it around multiple
times. The priest then took a flame to each follower to hold their hands around. He then takes the
liquid from early and offers it to assembled people. They each take a sip of the liquid then splash the
remainder over their heads. The priest then takes a large ornate metal hat and places it on each
followers head. Then, fruit was given to each follower there some of children kept it while some of
them seemed to be used to give a food offering to some of the statues of deities. Upon leaving food
was serviced to guests in the form of a spicy rice. Lastly, upon going to leave I noticed that one of the
priests had gone outside with some food to offer it to a statue of a deity though, this wasn t a part of
the service directly It was clearly a part of their daily lives. Overall this was a very different type of
service compared to a christian service for example. To be honest I feel like not knowing Hindi made
it so a lot of the subtext behind the service was lost to

Fear Of Friday The 13th Paraskavedekatriphobia
Approximately every 212 days Friday the 13th occurs, while some may stay in bed all day to avoid the
bad luck, others will embrace it and joke about the superstitions. Friday the 13th has many
superstitions around the day. Some fear the day Friday, others may ear the number 13, while others
fear the combination of Friday and 13. Psychologists have named the fear of Friday the 13th
paraskavedekatriaphobia. Many have a fear of this day from myths, religious beliefs, and even human
research.
One origin of the superstition of Friday the 13th occur due to Dan Brown s The Da Vinci Code. In his
book on Friday 13, October 1307 hundreds of Knights Templar were arrested and burnt across France.
Knights Templar were a religious group of unmarried men who came together to protect Christians
during the Crusades. Christians then began showing thanks through giving them their land and money
which made the kings very wealthy. 1307 French King Phillip IV was running out of money so he
decided to go after the Templars money. He accused the men of heresy and arrested them. A popular
theory is that the Templars discovered the Holy Grail or a unorthodox religious secret. Another
popular theory is that Templars became the Freemasons.
A religious superstition of Friday the 13th is Catholic belief. Judas, an apostle that was said to betray
Jesus was the 13th guest at the Last Supper. Jesus Christ was crucified on a Friday. The combination
of 13 on a Friday causes Catholics to be very fearful

How Converse Became so Popular with the Cool Kids In 2012, Converse sold $1.3 billion worth of
shoes (Hampp). Converse All Stars started out being a basketball shoe. It was started by a man named
Chuck Taylor. It was founded in 1908.(Hiestand) When Chuck Taylor started the All Star, it impacted
the basketball world significantly until new companies made more practical basketball shoes, and
Converse became the footwear for all ¨cool kids.¨ Athletes gave up wearing Converse on the courts,
and famous people began to show that they were cool to wear while not playing basketball. ¨The All
Star, whose pivoting abilities, ankle support and non skid sole had been championed for a half century,
was repositioned as a shoe for non athletes. It was no longer the choice of the NBA and college power
forwards, but of the Rolling Stones on their 1989 ¨Steel Wheels¨ concert tour and of high school
hipsters turned off by the slick marketing of Nike and Reebok (Leibowitz). When extremely popular

them with the style of music they played, so if a person were to like that kind of music they would

and so they wanted to do things just like them. Doing things like them would include buying and

Prosthetic Hip Dislocation And Its Effects
Prosthetic Hip Dislocation
A prosthetic hip dislocation means that your artificial hip joint (prosthesis) has moved out of place.
This can happen because of a hard, direct hit or injury (trauma) to the hip, such as a fall. A prosthetic
hip joint may be more likely to dislocate than a normal hip joint because a prosthetic hip joint does not
have all the structures that normally hold the joint in place.
After the prosthetic hip is moved back into place, you will generally recover fully. Prosthetic hip
dislocation is a medical emergency that requires immediate treatment.
CAUSES
This condition is often caused by trauma to the hip. Trauma may be caused by:
Falls, especially falls from a height.
Motor vehicle accidents.
Contact sports.
Industrial accidents.
RISK FACTORS
This condition is more likely to develop in:
People over 60 years of age.
People with bone loss (osteoporosis).
People who lack vitamin D.
People who are overweight or obese.
People who lack hip strength and flexibility.
People with poor vision.
SYMPTOMS
Symptoms of this condition include:
Severe pain in the hip area. Pain may get worse when you move or try to put weight on the hip.
Inability to move the hip.
The leg on the side of the dislocated hip appearing shorter than the other leg.
The foot on the side of the dislocated hip turning inward.
Loss of feeling in your lower leg, foot, or ankle.
DIAGNOSIS
This condition is diagnosed based on

Globalization And The European Union
There are in some areas of globalization that can cause drawbacks, which were made prevalent with
the European Union. The main drawback within the European Union was its economy. If one country
within the organization were to have economic crisis then that country would affect all other country
members. This was made clear in 2010 with the economic crisis presented in Greece. Many other
countries within the Union were left to bail out the Greece economy; which in turn, hurt their own
economies. The situation with Greece and the other European Union members is still a current issue;
however, Union members say that they will continue to contribute to struggling economies. The world
will continue to globalize businesses, economies, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As of 2012, only seventeen of members of the European Union have decided to use Euros as their
currency. In order for the members that adopted the Euro as their currency to successfully help their
economic problems, the Eurozone members had to follow strict instructions put into place the
European Union. The strict policies included strict control over inflation, government debt, and long
term interest rates (Mckee 525). The union put these strict policies into place to give the union the
tools that it needed to take in order to help fix the economic crisis in each country participating in the
Eurozone. Without the full cooperation of each country, it could cause the plans to fix the economic
crisis within each country to fail because of the different interests by each individual country.
Addressing some issues, the European Union decided to issue 750 million Euros in order to start the
process of financial stability for the whole union (Mckee 524). Over time, the union learned that that
the amount of money was not enough in order to help each countries individual financial crisis. As of
now, the union has to increase the amount of money they are feeding to countries in hopes of fixing
the economic issues. The continuing issue with the European Union s economic plans is finding the
money to keep funding countries with low economic growth. Furthermore, the union also has to figure
out how to deal with the issues that are outside of the European Union s borders. In

Frankenstein, By Mary Shelley And Parable Of The Sower By...
And the Destiny of Earthseed is to take root among the stars. (Butler 77) The books Frankenstein by
Mary Shelley and Parable of the Sower by Octavia E. Butler are both science fiction novels warning
of a dangerous potential future. Frankenstein looks at the dangers of creating artificially intelligent
beings, while Parable of the Sower explores human savagery in the collapse of American civilization
as the result of poor political decisions. Each addresses concerns of the time they were published.
While both are pessimistic views of the future and both require the suspension of disbelief, the
concept of dystopia and utopia is definitely apparent in both novels. A dystopia being a world in which
nothing is perfect and a utopia being a perfect world. Frankenstein addresses a timeless issue that
modern science may soon make a reality, while Parable of the Sower creates an alarming depiction of
conservative leadership.
Frankenstein is an early depiction of the creation of artificial intelligence, an idea with great
significance today. While artificially intelligent beings such as golems exist in myth as the product of
magic, scientific progress has the true potential to make such beings. In modern times, the subject is
frequently discussed with regard to computers being programmed to think, in an imitation of the
human brain. In Frankenstein, the medium used is recycled human body parts stitched together to
create a new human like entity. Whether or not this entity,

A Research On How Social Networking
Many people worldwide are affiliated with social networks everyday. Keith Wilcox and Andrew
Stephan s did a research on how social networking, particularly Facebook, was used to boost one s self
esteem with tie strengths. Tie strength can be defined as strong or weak. Strong ties can be described
as the close connection to their friends, while weak ties are considered their acquaintances that are
distant friends (Wilcox Stephan, 2013, p. 92). Wilcox is an assistant professor at Columbia University,

Wilcox and Stephan s hypothesis propose that the enhanced self esteem from browsing a social
network will momentarily lower self control, leading people to display less self control after browsing
a social network compared to those who did not browse a social network (Wilcox Stephan, 2013,
p.92). Since people care more about their image to strong ties, this effect will be on people who are
focused on strong ties while browsing the social network. Wilcox and Stephan expect social network
use to have little effect on the self control of those focused on weak ties while browsing a social
network (2013, p.92). This paper will help one understand their motives that take place while social
networking. Five studies were done through out this paper, but only three were very supportive of
their theory. The first study focused on proving social networking use increases self esteem primarily
for those focused on strong ties while browsing the network (Wilcox Stephan, 2013, p. 93). They
expected that those focused on strong ties would have a positive impact on self esteem, but what they
did not expect was the same for weak ties as well. The methodology for this was done by design,
survey and experimentation. They took 100 random US participants and put them into four different
groups. The groups were browsing: Facebook versus no Facebook (Wilcox % Stephan, 2013,

Analyzing Seamus Heaney s Blackberry-Picking
The poem Blackberry Picking is about a young man s coming of age, and how the lesson he learns,
about picking blackberries, relates to the human realization that reality is not always how we want it to
be. Seamus Heaney illustrates this lesson by showing the narrator s unabiding desire for the
blackberries when he speaks of the lust for picking and how he was willing to go out in the fields to
pick the blackberries despite having to go where briars scratched and wet grass bleached our boots in
obvious discomfort (7 8,10). Furthermore, after the blackberries had turned bad the narrator clearly
tells us, each year I hoped they d keep, knew they would not (24). This final bit at the end shows how
the narrator matures and has come to accept ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first thing that is noticeable about the way Seamus wrote this poem is his use of rhyme or lack
thereof. He uses slant rhymes throughout most of the poem an example being sun and ripen on lines
one and two. This could be interpreted to portray how the speaker feels. The speaker wants the
blackberries to stay sweet despite his experience picking blackberries that would always end up
rotting. At the same time, the slant rhymes are so close to rhyming, but never fully do creating a
bittersweet feeling that symbolizes how the speaker loves the blackberries, but how he hates how they
rot. In the text this is reinforced when he says, I always felt like crying. It wasn t fair (22). Another
example of Seamus creating this bittersweet tone in the poem is how he uses iambic pentameter
throughout most of the poem, but similar to how the slant rhymes don t quite work, on every couple of
lines he breaks the meter and adds an extra syllable. This feeling is continued throughout the poem
until the second stanza when Seamus starts to correct these things. He does this by starting to write in
true iambic pentameter except for one time on line 21 when sour adds two extra syllables sustaining
the rhythm he built up, but still adding emphasis to the word sour. Seamus connects the bitter sweet or
sour tone to a line that is out of place. Eventually, the poem is exactly what it

Multiculturalism Has Had a Rough Start
Obama once said that a multicultural society shows strong economy and a strong country. But is it
true? What about those who cannot integrate? What about all those people who look down at the
immigrants and always blame them for the bad things there happening? And is it a strong society if it
cannot provide its citizens? In Denmark we are having a hard time accepting our immigrants. We
blame them for almost everything. But it is not our immigrants in general; it is primarily those from
the Middle East. If the immigrants come from Sweden, France, England and so on, we have no
problems with them. We do not blame them for those things there going bad, but why? Is it because of
the cultural differences, or is it just easier to blame the Arabs after 9/11? In the UK and the US they
have more success by integrating the immigrants, but they do as well experience the same problems
with the immigration of Arabs. I believe that it is a result of the huge media covering of the terror
situation in the world. And as long as the media are exhibiting people from the Middle East as
terrorists there will be a general negative opinion about the Arab people, and therefore the accepting of
the people from Arabian will be difficult. The problem with the immigrants is the missing integration
of them in the society. But the Danes cannot be blamed for this, because the immigrants are trans
national. What I mean by that is very simple: the immigrants care more for the countries they escaped

Essay on Progression of the Kouroi
Progression of the Kouroi
What is a kouros? In Greek, kouros means a young man. In art, a kouros is a statue of a young nude
male who stands with his hands at his sides and one leg, usually his left, advanced.
Throughout the Archaic period, which dates from 610 B.C. to 480 B.C., the basic pose of kouroi
(plural for kouros) remained the same, though the anatomy of the figures gradually became more
naturalistic or true to life. The ideology that the Greek sculptors wanted to achieve greater naturalism
is proven through the progression of the kouroi during the period.
At a glance, three main features deem the Getty Kouros under the general classification of a kouros:
hands, hair, and feet. The hands are clenched into fists. They ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Despite this, the Kouros was put on display on October 1986. During the early nineties, a fake marble
torso that is similar to the Getty Kouros is discovered. Therefore, the fake torso was purchased for
research and the Kouros was removed from the display for reevaluation of the previous studies. In
May of 1992, the Kouros was displayed in Athens, Greece, at an international conference on its
authenticity. Although the majority of art historians and archeologists condemn it, most of the
scientists believe the Kouros to be authentic. Up to this day, the question of the Getty Kouros
authenticity remains a mystery for the statue is still dated as Greek, 530 B.C. or modern forgery.
The controversy of the authenticity of the Getty Kouros will be addressed shortly after the
characterization of the kouros.
Kroisos, a kouros from a cemetery at Anavysos, most resembles the Getty Kouros. By comparing the
Getty Kouros shown at different angles with Kroisos a lot of similarities can be seen. The placement
of the feet on the base in relation to the position of the hands and the shoulders, as well as details of
the head, can help to determine whether a kouros turns to the left or right. This subtle movement in
either direction is found among all authentic kouroi. The bent (or broken) axis of the left foot of the
Getty Kouros is one of

Misinterpretation Of The TED Talk Recording By Gail Reed
Misinterpretation of the term technology has been a reoccurring issue in society, as individuals often
link that term to an actual hardware. Although this interpretation has been accurate to an extent, it does
not determine the other aspects of technology. Technology has been continually expanding, which led
to new and improved knowledge on science and society. Additionally, technological determinism
reflects the notion that societal changes are stimulated by modifications in technology. In the TED
Talk recording, Gail Reed highlights the advanced knowledge students have acclaimed through
traveling to Cuba. Furthermore, she exemplifies the growing need for more doctors in rural
communities. For many individuals, technology has been notably

How Well Informed are Pension Scheme Members on Their Future Pension Benefits? Evidence from
Ireland explores pertinent issues regarding Irish retirees. The article, written by Alan Barret, Irene
Mosca and Brendan Whelan appeared in the Journal of Aging and Social Policy in 2015. The paper
begins by acknowledging the significance of providing the Irish community with an adequate and
financially sustainable pension system (Allan Barret, 2015). The paper notes that in Ireland, the
private sector offers an incredible platform for enhancing pension savings. The paper s key objective
entails exploring patterns of knowledge of a private pensions system. In the study, the authors employ
the first wave of The Irish Longitudinal Study on Ageing (TILDA), Ireland s representative study of
residents aged fifty years and above. The dataset is a key strength of the paper mainly because it
includes a module regarding retirement planning. The article arrived at its goal through questioning
respondents and offering them the freedom to provide honest responses. Firstly, the authors highlight
some of the key features of the Irish Pension System including the three pillars revisited earlier on in
this paper. This is followed by an in depth literature review of the Irish pension system thereby
providing more insight into the intricacies surrounding Irelands Retirement system. The authors revisit
a 2005 study in order to comprehend potential retirees perception of future pension benefits. By

various missions in the space separately, what are these space companies after? Here are the 5 things

How Are People Going To Survive The Trip?
During this announcement which dazzled dozens, Musk provided few and limited details about the
possible life inside the spaceship. However, he mentioned that the trip, by a spaceship that ferries
people to Mars would be utmost fun with restaurants and Zero G games. This however, does not
provide concrete descriptions of how the spaceship passengers would pass time and mist important,
stay alive.
One of the biggest concerns is definitely the increased levels of radiation. The deep space contains
energized particles from deep space cosmic rays and solar flares which can potentially harm people
during the voyage.
Where Will The Colonist Live And How Will They Survive?
This is the second issue Musk highlighted lightly. He mentioned that the concern of SpaceX was to
provide an ample transportation system to Mars. Besides, the promo video from SpaceX ends right
after the colonists get to Mars. It is therefore unclear who will handle the responsibilities of creating

Since 1913, Clorox has had a reputation of leading the industry with its products.
This situational analysis includes industry forces, company statistics and financial information, a list
of environmental factors that deal with how the company operates, and competitor information.
Industry Forces
The Clorox Company does business within the industry of Nondurable Goods; especially relevant to
the product of Disinfecting Wipes, the company is associated with the sub industry of Household
Products. Two significant forces should be considered when examining the industry and individual
companies within this industry: innovation and competition.
Threat of Substitutes and Innovation
The threat of substitutes for the Household Products of the Nondurables Industry is high. As
mentioned before, each company produces a product that is very similar to its competitors. Customers
also have high bargaining power in that they can buy substitute products such as paper towels and
disinfecting sprays. If a company does not spend time and effort marketing its products, consumers
will not be able to differentiate them from a competitor.
The typical household product has a life of approximately five years from the conception of the
product until it is stripped from shelves. The product will go through one to two years of development,
testing, and marketing. It will then

Martin Luther And The Catholic Way Of Thinking
Lutheranism was started by the ex catholic priest Martin Luther in his attempt to revolutionize the
catholic way of thinking. Martin Luther whose lifespan was from 1483 to 1546 studied in the
University of Wittenberg where he studied greatly under the laws of sola fide, sola gratia, and sola
scriptura which meant by faith alone, by grace alone, by scripture alone. During that time he often
question the way Catholics would handle their ways of teaching one example was that the only way to
get into heaven was through sacraments, pilgrimages, and donations. Martin Luther often saw that the
Catholic Church was corrupt which was why at one point he wrote the 95 theses and posted it on the
door of the Castle Church in Wittenberg which challenged the teaches of the Catholic Church as well
as the authority of the pope.
By posting his 95 theses on the church door Martin Luther started the domino effect for the beginning
of Lutheranism which would make citizens also quest the integrity of the church as well as the
authority of the pope giving the ground to new ideas after Lutheranism. At the time that Martin Luther
was spreading his teachings the church refused to recognize Lutheranism as an official religion.
Although Lutheranism wasn t seen as a religion by the church it gained popularity with the citizens
more so the peasants. The peasants that believed the Lutheran teachings that they began riots so they
could keep their religion.
This retaliations happened during 1524 to

Body Shape Of Beauty
In America, beauty has high, superficial standards. Women are especially expected to have the perfect
body shape: tall and thin with a small waist, big breasts, and a big butt. In reality, only about 5% of the
American population has the ideal body shape (CITE). However, women do not randomly come up
with these issues of their bodies out of the blue. Media plays a large role in the standards set for
women. Magazines, television, and social media all use Photoshop or some other editing software to
make women look perfect . The standards set for women in particular are unrealistic and are in turn
making young girls have serious self esteem issues. These standards need to be shattered because
America needs to embrace all body shapes and promote self love instead of self hate. The ideal body
shape for women has changed over the years. Until the 1900s, being curvy and voluptuous was striven
for. During the late 1800s to early 1900s, the Gibson Girl body was all the rage. These women were
the ones that started the tiny waist trend, using corsets to tighten their stomachs. The tiny waist was
paired with a big bust to emphasize the fragile, but curvy body. The 1920s went for more of a lean
figure with a short, bob haircut. During the 40s and 50s, pin up models became very popular. Marilyn
Monroe was the most iconic female of this time. Her body was nowhere near perfect and was fuller.
However, these times were much like the times now, except that artists would draw the model and
give her longer legs, a bigger bust, etc. Today, we have photoshop to do that for us. Once the 1960s
hit, being thin started trending. Twiggy was the style icon of the decade, with her twig thin body and
pixie cut hair. This is still a big trend today. However in recent years, plus size women have started to
be more accepted. With that being said, the plus size women that magazines show are not truly plus
sized, but just a bit larger than the super skinny models. Although men are not in the limelight as much
as women are, they still have undergone changing beauty standards as well. Men have also gone
through body shape trends. During the late 1800s to early 1900s, bigger was better. The heavier a man
was, the more attractive

Founding Brothers Summary
Founding Brothers by Joseph J. Ellis is a study of the lives of the founders of the American republic or
as Ellis sees them, the founding fathers Benjamin Franklin, George Washington, John Adams, Aaron
Burr, Thomas Jefferson, Alexander Hamilton, and James Madison. It mainly focuses on important
segments in the lives of these men. Ellis shows us how the relationships of the Founding Fathers
shaped the period in which they lived. (Melanie R. McBride. Cedars, S.R. ed. Founding Brothers

The intended audience as it seems would be initially college students. The only weakness that I found
in the book is that it wasn t in order. If the book had been in chronological order it would be easier to
understand. During the 1790s, as Ellis describes them as, the greatest statesmen of their generation,
came together to outline the new republic and direct its course for the coming centuries. Ellis focuses
on six distinct moments that show the most crucial issues facing the infant nation: Burr and Hamilton
s deadly duel; Hamilton, Jefferson, and Madison s secret dinner; Franklin s petition to end the peculiar
institution of slavery, and Madison s efforts to defeat it; Washington s Farewell Address, announcing
his retirement from office; Adams s difficult term as Washington s replacement and his alleged scheme
to pass the presidency on to his son; and finally, Adams and Jefferson s improved communication at
the end of their lives, in which they compared their different views of the Revolution and its legacy. In
the first chapter Ellis discusses how the duel reveals the importance of personal reputation in the days
of a blossoming government.

How can we tell if a character in a book is a Christ figure? Harrison Bergeron is an appropriate

carried a beam of wood on his shoulders, and came to rescue the unqualified world. Harrison was
taken away from home and went through series of rough treatment. He was terrorized for his beliefs,
as with Jesus when He suffered the same way. In addition, the story reads, he wore earphones that

that he stated on how the Handicap General treated and handled him. At the end, Harrison was
relatively different between the story and the movie although there were similarities.
The differences between George Bergeron and I are striking, and we deserve a thorough investigation.
We are separate in two ways: intelligence quotient and physical appearance. George lives with his
wife, Hazel in an era where there s nothing, but equality. His son, Harrison was taken away by the HG
men, due to his mental and physical potential. In both story and the movie, George is shown to have
handicaps and earphones, signally that he is mentally more capable of having an extremely high
intelligence quotient; while I on the other hand, does have an average intelligence quotient, but not as
smart or as elevated as George. And George, while his intelligence was way above normal, had a little
mental handicap radio in his ear. It is not very clear that George is fairly aged in the story, but the
movie says else wise. In my head, it seemed as if George was younger than the movie version of him.
Through the movie, George is physically displayed as a balding, aged man with the looks of a seventy
or an eighty year old man. George often goes into deep thought about various things that in which can
get him shocked from the Government. On the other hand, I love to go into deep thought

How Did Israel s Food Rations Contribute To The Creation...
THE DIVISION OF ISRAEL
Under the reign of Solomon, Israel reached great economic and political heights along with its
security and prosperity. Solomon was renowned for his wisdom, wealth and building projects, but with
these projects came heavy taxes and harsh labour on his people. After his death, the kingdom was
divided into two separate kingdoms, north and south. The biblical record accounts for the division as a
consequence for him staying from God, but his tax and labour laws and new administrative districts
also lead to friction within his people. The immature leader that followed him amplified this friction.
One of the contributing factors to the division was the heavy tax imposed on the people. This came in
the form of food rations for both the Kings court. The writer of kings records the massive daily
provisions of the king s palace, which included milled flour and livestock. The 12 new administrative
provided these rations monthly. This caused major angst within the country as Judah was excluded
from providing rations. Along with providing rations for Solomon, the people had to supply wheat and
olive oil for the King Hiram of Tyre, who provided timber for the Temple of the Lord. These heavy
taxes cause an extensive burden of the realm and caused major fractures on the kingdom. ... Show

stories meant to scare us, but how did they use transformation to elicit fear in the reader? Many stories
use transformation in humans, objects, and settings to elicit fear. Reading these stories is frightening
when you become engaged in the characters and setting. Transformation in human emotions can create
fear because we become captivated in the characters feelings. In The Fall of the House of Usher, the

in Yambuku, Zaire, a country that was latter renamed the Democratic Republic of Congo (Walsh, Biek
Real, 2005). During the outbreak 318 cases were recorded of which 280 (88%) died. Later the same
year, an outbreak occurred in Sudan where 284 cases were recorded with fatality rate of 53%. The
disease and the virus that cause it are named after River Ebola that passes though Yambuku. In the
USA, Ebola killed several monkeys ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Infection endothelial cell may be the main cause of hemorrhage and vascular damage. When tested for
Ebola viral antigens, some endothelial cells of tissues used for autopsy have shown positive results
(Hensley, Jones, Feldmann, Jahrling, Geisbert, 2005).
Apart from human, Ebola also infect other primates including gorillas and chimpanzees (Walsh, Biek
Real, 2005). The virus has also been found in the fruit bat. In a research conducted by Leroy and
colleagues IgG antibody to Ebola was recorded in 8.3% of the fruit bats under study. This study
hypothesized that fruit bats are the natural reservoir for Ebola virus. According to results of laboratory
studies, fruit bats have been able to support replication of Ebola Virus without showing any symptoms
of Ebola hemorrhagic fever (Leroy, Kumulungui, Pourrut et al. 2006).
Because the most common form of infection remains direct contact with bodily fluids (Bardi, 2002), it
has been suggested Ebola infected human when hunters came in to contact with infected primate
carcasses. During the first outbreak, with little knowledge of the mode of infection, home caregivers
and hospital staff became the next line of victims. Secondary transmission also occurred in hospital
where unsterilized needles and syringes were reused. The only recorded case in Brittan occurred as a
result from accidental laboratory infection.
Since there is no cure or vaccine for Ebola hemorrhagic fever, quarantine has remained one of

Tale Of Two Cities Inhumanity Essay
In France, the years between 1789 and 1799 were a time of thoughtless inhumanity and brutality
toward fellow man. These inhumane acts are carried through the by Revolutionaries and the nobility
of France in these years and the years leading up to the French Revolution. The best illustration of the
inhumanity felt and shown during this time is A Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens. Dickens uses
metaphors as symbols throughout this book to exemplify his theme of thoughtlessness toward people
from other people. Dickens develops these metaphors throughout the novel and manipulates them to
fit different circumstances. He uses every day objects and ideas and makes them personifications of
the Revolution and their unsympathetic mindsets and agendas. The symbols of the scarecrows and the
birds of fine song and feather, the sea, and the wine represent the theme of inhumanity in Charles
Dickens A Tale of Two Cities. The scarecrows and the birds of fine song and feather represent the
relationship between the peasants and the nobles and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The scarecrows are the starving peasants and the birds of fine song and feather are the lucky nobles.
These two were ruthless to one another form the beginning, with their conflicting interests. The sea
and its mighty waves crash up onto the shores of the nobles and knock down their high horses. The
sea is a wild force, and cannot be contained by human force. The wine is the blood of the Revolution
and the insanity of the people who spilled it. Both the wine and the blood it presents give the drinker a
sense of drunkenness. The inhumanity in A Tale of Two Cities can only be seen by those who know
the future. In the time that the acts of inhumanity take place they seem like deserved acts, when in
reality, they are as malicious and heartless as murdering your best

Full Force And Effect Analysis
Theme The theme of Full Force and Effect by Tom Clancy is to never give up. One example that
helped identify this lesson is when Colin was about to surrender because he was very tired but ended
up continuing to run away so the documents wouldn t fall into the wrong hands (27). Another example
is when Jack Ryan Jr. wanted to cancel an operation in North Korea because it was too hard on him,
but he continued it and discovered valuable information. Lastly, another case of this moral is when
Gavin was trying to hack into the database of the mining company in North Korea. He spent all day
trying and failed, so he made himself try a few more times and ended up with full access to the
database of the employees. Other texts with the same theme ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

For instance on page 4, But he [John Clark] is also thinking about running around here as a twenty
five year old SEAL stud. The first part of the chapter told through John Clark but the perspective
changes to another character, Jack Ryan, later during the same chapter. Jack Ryan had thought this was
a boring and pointless mission (11). This proves that the narrator is all knowing thus this book is told
in third person omniscient.
Tone And Mood The mood of Full Force and Effect by Tom Clancy is exciting. Constant action
packed scenes makes one not want to put the book down. For example on page 62, Clark s head shook
as the grenade exploded right around the corner. The tone is very serious, factual, and forthright. For
instance on page 91, Runs fired left and right, Jack had no idea what had just happened. The violent
scenes fits very well with the literal scenes thus making the tone very grave.
Foreshadowing Gavin came back from the restroom and noticed a black van that has never been at the
hotel before. Later, a whole squad of heavily armed men attempt kill Gavin and his friends

Cultural Identity Is The Belonging Of An Individual
Cultural identity is the belonging of an individual to a group. According to the iceberg model of
culture, this group typically shares the same behaviors, beliefs, and values and thought patterns. As
someone whose response to the question where are you from? sounds more like strained sounds than
actual words, I have struggled tremendously with determining the cultural identities that construct my
identity. I often feel more like a cultural chameleon than an individual possessing cultural identities,
the constant change from one culture to the next leaving me feeling bereft of my own. However, upon
deeper reflection, I have come to realize that it is my identity that is fluid, as prescribed in the critical
perspective of identity, and is in constant development, as prescribed in the interpretive perspective of
identity. While my identity is adaptable and evolving, I do possess certain cultural identities. These
cultural identities come in great variety, from my national identity as an American to my racial identity
as a white person. As I grow, however, I have found that it is my cultural identifications of being a
female, survivor, and Nomadic Culture Kid that are most salient and influential in my identity
development. Of the numerous cultural identities that I have developed, one of the most immediate
cultural identities was my gender identity as a female. While certain external cultural notions were
prescribed to me the moment I was born, the most influential

Imperialization Of Greek Civilization
Very few civilizations have had as profound an influence on the world as those of ancient Greece. The
Greeks laid the foundations for fields varying from philosophy to political theory to war tactics.
However, this influence was not just due to their intelligence or success, but their widespread presence
in the Mediterranean. Greek culture was spread throughout their known world in two distinct manners,
the foundation of apoikia in the Archaic Age (8th century to 500 B.C. ) and imperialists by poleis,
primarily Athens of the Classical Age (490 323 B.C ). Though the culture of a mother city
(mētropolis) may have spread through two very different manners of colonization. The word is not
used in the literal sense, but rather hereafter used to mean spreading of culture , as the former can
hardly be described using the contemporary definition of colonization and the latter was through
Athenian empire building. These developments had a significant impact on ancient Greece and our
modern perception thereof. Like most of the ancient world, we can best analyze these methods of
colonialism through extant artifacts. I will analyze an inscription of the foundation oath of Cyrene,
which recounts the decision and manner in which the island of Thera sent its citizens to the form a
new polis, and the fragments of the Lapis Primus, a marble monolith that documented tributes to
Athens when the city was at the peak of its imperial age, evidencing the magnitude of their power and
influence in the Greek region. The Cyrene inscription is a short oath from the 4th century B.C. that
describes, from three centuries prior, the Theran rationale behind forming Cyrene, the manner in
which they undertook this expedition, and their perception of the newly formed city. The inscription
claims that Apollo spontaneously ordered the Therans to send a group of people to Libya in order to
form a colony, with their citizen Battos as the king. The Theran assembly decided to send one son
from each household, who was in the prime of life, 4 along with any free man who desired to leave, to
colonize Cyrene. The assembly threatened anyone who resisted departure with the death penalty and a
curse upon him and his descendants. Once the

St. John s Marriage
In Charlotte Bronte s Jane Eyre, the main protagonist, Jane, often avoids temptations that she faces
and uses her strong will and independence to avoid situations that she knows will end badly for her in
the long run. These situations are most usually involving a man, some form of love (or lacking
thereof), and a possible marriage. The final time she is asked to be wed, Jane accepts and finally does
settle down as a married woman, but before then, she runs from a marriage on her wedding day, and
refuses one more before she is engaged. This one that she refuses is the one requested by St. John
Rivers, a man working in a ministry whom takes Jane in and cares for her, with his two sisters, in her
time of need. Jane and St. John have a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Through all of her suffering and misery, she does end up being happy, living with the man that she
loves, and has loved, all along. This man is not St. John. There are multiple reasons why Jane declines
John s request. First of all, she finds it horrific that he does not actually love her. For once in these
novels, marriage isn t actually about wealth; but of course, there is also a lacking of affection, in this
case. John sees it fit that Jane marry him because she would make a great missionary wife...and that is
all. Jane also knows that St. John would have the motive to have sexual relations with her, because
that s what husbands and wives do, even if there is no warm feeling involved at all. Another reason for
Jane s declining is because marriage to St. John would mean sacrificing passion and love for reason
and principle. At one point, St. John invites Jane to come to India with him, for six weeks, as a
missionary and his wife. In doing this, John explains, she would have the chance to make a more
meaningful contribution to society than she would as a housewife (or, in other words, than she would
with anyone else). While this is an interesting offer, living with St. John would mean living without
any love at all. Jane would constantly be lonely, and would have to neglect her own needs of love and
emotional support. Her consideration of St. John s proposal

Network Server Security
Network Server Security
The network server at focus in this study is one utilized primarily for data storage and internal
application sharing as well as for securing numerous desktop computers connected to the network.
This work will describe access control that would be put in place for each of these with explanations
on why these would be used. A message of at least 20 characters will be generated using a Vigener
cipher keys that is at least three letters long, The message will be encrypted along with an explanation
of how secure this message is and why. The form of security chose for the network will be identified
with physical and electronic security considered. Included will be virus checks, firewalls, and
encryption protocols as well as any access protocols explaining how each secures the network. This
work will additionally list three specific project goals which if met would reduce or alleviate any
problems or deficiencies.
I. Database Access for Data Storage and Internal Application Sharing and Desktop Computers
Security controls for the network system involves the creation of access and use for each user or user
group. The control is used to restrict a list of possible actions down to the allowed actions. For
example, encryption can be used to restrict access to data, application controls to restrict processing
via authentication, and DRM storage to prevent unauthorized accesses. (Securosis, 2012) The
necessary controls are determined by first listing out

Visual Pleasure And Narrative Cinema
From an issue that was discussed in class, we discussed about the gaze. In Laura Mulvey s Visual
Pleasure and Narrative Cinema she discusses about scopophilia, which is the pleasure in looking
which also incorporates exhibitionism (pleasure in being looked at). This term also applies to cinema.
She focuses on the idea of the male gaze in cinema, where films are created in favor of the male
audience. Thus the action of cinema compromises of women as image, man are bearer of the look .
Mulveys states that women in the film industry are catogarized on two levels, where woman are seen
as erotic objects for the characters within the film and also erotic objects for the spectators of the film.
She then moves on to criticize famed director Alfred Hitchcock s film Rear Window for how he
portrayed woman in the film. Alfred Hitchcock s movie correlates to Mulvey s ideas which support
her theories of scopophilia and voyeurism in cinema, she believed that the film exploits the male gaze
and how it antagonises woman in an anti feminism manner. In the film, the main actor is restricted in
his apartment due to his broken leg from his latest assigned project. He spends most of his time
watching his neighbours from his window and later comes to suspect one of his neighbour murdering
his bed ridden wife when we suddenly disappears from sight. Hitchcock successfully implies
voyeurism through main actor James Stewart s character in the film, L.B. Jeffries The start of the
film opens with a

Day of Infamy
Who is a strong man who overcame illness and disability to lead a nation through war? Franklin
Delano Roosevelt (FDR) writer of the speech Pearl Harbor Address and the President of the United
States of America declared war on Japan in December 8, 1941 after December 7, 1941 a date which
will live in infamy (Roosevelt). A speech analysis on Franklin D. Roosevelt reveals that through his
dialogue and actions, his trait confident, strong, and intelligent emerge. Franklin Delano Roosevelt
will remain a historical figure to be studied and respected by many generations to come (National
Archives Trust Fund Board 8 (NATFB)).
FDR was born an only child from a wealthy family on January 30, 1882 in New York. He was taught
at home until the age of 14. He later went to Harvard to study as a lawyer. At the same time, he went
into a relationship with Eleanor Roosevelt, and the two became engaged on November 22, 1903. After
his law career, Roosevelt entered politics as a Democrat. His well known relative, Teddy, and many
others were Republicans. Roosevelt quickly climbed the Democratic ranks to become the assistant
secretary of the Navy during World War I. In 1920, he ran as vice president on the unsuccessful
Democratic ticket. After his vice presidential defeat, Roosevelt came across what was diagnosed as
Polio in 1921 while on vacation in Canada. He was paralyzed from the waist down ever since.

Religion During The Early Modern Period Essay
Religion was so central to political and military conflict in the early modern period because religion
encompassed the era due to the strongly religious cultural society. The centre of conflict deriving from
the Catholic and Protestant divide, which caused conflict within politics and the military, because the
opposing sides fought over religious territory and popularity. The centre of the conflict within these
sectors of religion was The Reformation and the wars which followed, which created a struggle for
power as different religions gained new support and thus power, and others experienced reduced
power as a result. The resulting political and military turmoil created the growth of secularism, which
attempted to stabilize politics and the military by increasing control. Therefore religion was so central
to political and military conflict in the early modern period because the period was so strongly
religious that it had more of an impact on political and military conflict than any other factor, because
it was held in a higher regard than politics and the military sustained individually.
Religion in the early modern period was the source of people s identity because people were strongly
religious due to religious values encompassing the way that society functioned due to the strongly
religious culture, a strong contrast with today. Popular religious practices and beliefs were actually
derived from liturgical paradigms of an incredibly vivacious late medieval Catholic

Horror Narrative Essay
The horror genre has many lessons to teach us as an audience although being the genre most
connected with that of ridiculousness. It is regularly associated with the reaction it seeks from its
audience; both emotional and physical. In cinema success is measured by terrifying chills, bloody
deaths and the volume of the audiences scream. The appeal of horror narrative in literature, film and
theatre lies in the pleasures it associates with fear, suspense and terror; no matter what it is trying to
convey to the audience. Even when writers layer the genre with academic thoughts on psychology,
theology and the world in which we live in, horror remains the primary outlet to examine the notions
of dread, uncertainly, mysterious and the abject. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Films such as Carrie (DePalma 1976), Misery (Reiner 1990), Evil Dead (Raimi 1981), The Exorcist
(Friedkin 1973), The Birds (Hitchcock 1963) have all been made into stage productions; treading the
boards as a Broadway Musical or as serious drama. These adaptations have gained cult followings and
mixed reviews.
In 2014 the London theatre scene will be dominated by horror on stage. Productions of Fatal
Attraction (Dearden 2014), American Psycho (Aguirre Sacasa 2013), Let the Right One In (Thorne
2013), Woman in Black (Mallatratt 1987) and Ghost stories (Dyson Nyman 2012) will lead the early
part of the season. The power of stage horror doesn t just match that of horror cinema, it can actually
outdo it as it can carry a blow that is extremely intensified because it is live. The question for the stage
though is how do we adapt iconic horror from screen to stage without the magic of high expensive
technical effects?
Horror on stage could be said to date back to the Ancient Greeks and their tales of incest, murder and
revenge, only using the role of the messenger as narrator to the horrors that happened off stage. In
modern times, however, we only need to look to Paris and the Théâtre du Grand Guignol, which
presented explicit revenge tales from the late 1800s to the mid 1900s. The plays placed emphasis on

  • 2. Oral History Interview The individual I chose to interview for my oral history project was actually the Vice Principal of my school and his name was Mr. Clair. During our interview, he relayed to me the experiences he went during the Civil Rights Movement. What I was told during this interview was surprisingly different from what I was expecting, I was expecting to hear stories about how my interviewee witnessed many people of color being abused and segregated to the extremes. However, what I heard was a bit calmer than that and surprisingly, did not involve much violence at all. Mr. Clair told me about how he was only a young boy, around ten years old when the civil rights movement began to take off and in his school the main reaction he had was utter dismay. It was shocking and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This was amusing to me because the Civil Rights Movement was having a direct impact on his life. This forced him to make the choice to either support this movement that was occurring in his school or just go on with his life. Being the young boy he was, my interviewee didn t really have a reaction to this decision, he did what his parents decided to do. That isn t surprising because most children usually follow their parents, however; what made this so interesting was the fact that his parents made the decision not to do anything about the actions going on around them. If I was put in this same situation I would probably do the same thing my interviewee did, just stay neutral and don t actively participate in any actions against the Civil Rights Movement. I would do this because I am a person who tends to mind my own business unless something actually has an effect on my life. In this situation, having colored kids leave my school isn t really something that would hinder the quality of my education, therefor; causing me to do ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Teens And Gang Violence About one third of every community experiences some sort of gang violence (Tucker). Although, it may not directly affect one specific community. It is making a great impact on the new generation. Gang violence among teens has become more prevalent in today s society. For example, during the summer of 2017 in Lancaster South Carolina, five teenagers were murdered by other teens in gang affiliated behaviors. Thus, resulting in imprisonment. The question is how we punish these teens. Should they receive the death penalty for committing an act of murder? Or should they spend the rest of their lives in prison with a chance of being released back into society. What is the value of their lives? Understand they are in the prime of their lives. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Philosopher Michel Foucault s work Discipline and Punish speaks about the changes punishment and discipline have taken. Punishment has always been used to discourage criminals from unlawful acts. In the beginning, punishment was aimed at the body through things like corporal punishment. Now with prison systems in place, the aim is at what Foucault calls the soul . Foucault questions if these new methods of punishment and discipline are indeed affective. Commonly the criminals who receive death penalties have committed an act of terrorism, hate crimes, or murder. There are currently thirty one states in which the death penalty is legalized, including South Carolina. In the state of South Carolina, by law, a person receives the death penalty when murder is committed with one of twelve aggravating circumstances. A person who is convicted of or pleads guilty to murder must be punished by death, or by a mandatory minimum term of imprisonment for thirty years to life. If the State seeks the death penalty and a statutory aggravating circumstance is found beyond a reasonable doubt pursuant to subsections (B) and (C), and a recommendation of death is not made, the trial judge must impose a sentence of life imprisonment ( Code of Laws ). The support for and against the death penalty is equally weighted. Those who are for the death penalty say that it creates both specific and general deterrence. Deterrence is the action of discouraging an action or event ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Nocodazole Synthesis Lab Report We hypothesized that the cells would uptake LDL and transferrin the most at 37°C for an incubation period of 30 minutes. According to our results, we hypothesized correctly. This means that at this temperature and rate, the cells would get the most drug delivery. We also hypothesized that higher concentrations of nocodazole would have more of an effect on receptor mediated endocytosis. This was also proven correct by our results. The cells that were treated with the nocodazole inhibitor, didn t take up as much dye compared to the cells that weren t treated the nocodazole. When designing an anti cancer drug, the results that were found in this experiment need to be considered. It was found that the cells were more likely to uptake the drugs at a higher temperature. In particular the uptake of LDL and transferrin was the most successful at 37°C. This temperature is noted as the body temperature. These results make sense because tumors grow in the human body, so the anti cancer drugs need to be the most effective at this body temperature. There have been many experiments that have tested the same principles that were performed in this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There are many things that could have gone wrong when conducting these various experiments. A wrong amount of PBS or paraformaldehyde could have been used which would alter the results. Also, cells could have been lost throughout the experiment. This would sway the results because there wouldn t be as many shown in the microscope slides. Also counting up the cells to determine which ones were involved with cell uptake could have been done incorrectly. The appearance of these cells on the microscope can be very hard to determine and count. So the numbers found in the results all came from a personal judgment. This is the main source of error because these numbers determine the total outcome of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. The Seven Functions Of Management For any organization (in this case, health organization) to succeed, survive or thrive, there must be effective and efficient management on the part of the leadership. Management is an essential component of any organization because it is the component that directs and coordinates the current activities of the organization and also makes provisions on the plans for the future. Business dictionary.com (2015) defines management as organizing and coordinating the activities of business with the sole aim of achieving its defined objectives. It is the act of bringing people together in other to achieve the desired objectives and goals in an effective and efficient way. Management can also be defined as the ability or procedures made to achieve the goals of an organization by bringing people together, coordinating them ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These fourteen principles are still in use till date as He (Fayol) is still considered as one of the most powerful contributors to the present day management concept (Mind tools, 2015). 2.1.2 Functions of Management For management to be effective, it should be able to creatively solve problems, motivate employees/workers and be able to achieve the organizational goals and objectives. It consists of various components and activities which are useful to every manager without regard to their level or status. There are seven functions of management that I will like to discuss below; each functions are inseparable because each one depend on the other. These management functions are: Planning: It is a process which involves setting the aims, mission statement and objectives of the organization and how they will be achieved. Nothing can be achieved without proper planning. Planning outlines what tasks to do, when to do it and how to perform the tasks. • 6. Why The United States Has Only Two Major Political Parties Final Exam Essays Essay Prompt 1: Discuss why the United States has only two major political parties. The United States government is commonly referred to as a Duopoly , which means that there are two established political parties, Democratic and Republic, and that these two parties share the vast majority of the political power in the country. This is because the United States follows a winner takes all voting system, utilizing a single member district plurality . The single member district portion means that for each geographic area or district, there is only one elected official, and the plurality portion means that in United States elections, the representative or politician who receives the most number of votes, wins the given election, even if it s less than half the percentage of votes. According to Duverger s law, a Political Science principle, plurality voting procedures correlationally support the emergence of only two political parties, in contrast to a multiparty democracy. This is largely because there have only been two parties for so long, and these two parties have made it such a point to make their separation of ideals and beliefs blatant, so the vast majority of the voters have for the most part picked a definitive side , so to speak, and have registered as a member of the corresponding political party, that caters the most to their individual ideals. Because of this, it has made it very hard for any smaller parties to gain enough support to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Extinction Of The Dinosaurs The mass extinction of the Cretaceous period The debate over what happened to the dinosaurs have been one of the most controversial research topics in history. One minute, the earth was blooming with countless trees and a healthy environment, then, in the period of seconds, all life on earth was wiped out, creating a mass extinction across the globe (Bond, 2017). Discovering what ended the cretaceous period has been a major priority in the scientific world, however, with enough modern day research, scientists have nailed the extinction of the Dinosaurs down to two major theories; the asteroid impact theory, and the volcanic eruption theory, both being extremely alike. As research has been undertaken, scientists have evaluated all possible theories, distinguishing that there are two major possibilities; the volcano theory and the asteroid impact theory. Both theories are highly comparable, yet both have distinguishing qualities that indicate their differences. The Volcano theory, affecting the wide spread area of India has been proven as a major factor to the discovery of why the dinosaurs became extinct. Research indicates that 65 million years ago, monstrous lava beds called Deccan traps covered the surface of the earth, over an area of 500 000 square kilometres (Weishampel, 2017). Each lava bed released unimaginable amounts of noxious gases, leading to a block of sunlight in the atmosphere, resulting in all plant life on earth dying out. As a result of all plants having ... • 8. Alborum Plumae Research Paper Early yesterday morning, a previously undiscovered species was found above the snowline in the Mount Kosciuszko National Park, New South Wales. The discovery was made by a the well known biologist, Dr. Ella Beard, who upon curiosity of observing the snow fixed abnormally firmly to tree branches, climbed the tree and discovered these small feathered creatures perfectly disguised as cumulated snow. The creature, now known scientifically as Alborum Plumae, hides perfectly as snow lumps on tree branches. It is believed to spend the majority of time in a stationary position, only using its wings for flight from predators. Many of the Alborum Plumae traits are easily comparable to birds. They has a thick layer of down insulation, allowing them to retain warmth while sedentary, zygodactyly feet for gripping branches, pneumatic bones to aid in flight, huddling behavior for retaining warmth, and wings for escaping predators. It is not completely bird like however, as it has sharp incisors for eating hard nuts found in gum trees in surrounding areas, and has four legs. It has not yet been confirmed which class this animal belongs to. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The only other observed behavior to date is in flight, when threatened directly by predators. In these circumstances, the whole group (known as a storm) take flight simultaneously and fly to safety. • 9. Battle Of The Wilderness Essay The Battle of the Wilderness was the first part of a major offensive strategy by a new Union General in Chief, Ulysses S. Grant. Grant never planned to fight the Confederates at this time. His main goal was to begin marching towards the Confederate capital, Richmond, Virginia. This was all part of Grant s plan known as the Overland Campaign. The overall goal was to keep Confederate Commander Robert E. Lee s famous Northern Virginia Army occupied with defending their capital so that Lee would not be able to send soldiers to stop the another Union army from invading Georgia. Therefore, Grant only wanted to get to the Confederate capital of Richmond. However, while trying to slip by Lee, Grant got his army caught up in a fight in a dangerous area ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although Grant had 115,000 soldiers and Lee had only 65,000 troops, knowledge of the dangerous terrain could become more valuable than the number of troops. The actual battle began the morning of May 5th, 1864. The fighting was wild and chaotic due to the thick undergrowth and many trees making it nearly impossible for one man to move swiftly, forget about an entire army. There were men on both sides who got so lost that they accidentally went into enemy camps and were taken as prisoners. Many of the wounded fell into the thick undergrowth and got stuck, later being burned and killed by fires due to rifle fire. When night arrived, the battle was inconclusive, meaning neither side had a clear winner. However, the Union managed to gain a position in which they could attack Lee s right wing. Grant ordered for them to attack at 4 am the next morning. So ends the first day. On the second day of the battle, May 6th, 1864, reinforcements arrived for both sides. The Union s planned attack on Lee s army was slightly postponed from 4am to a little later than 5am so that commanders could have more time to organize their troops after the previous day s fierce ... The operating system or some people in the world also call it the OS, which mean the same. The OS is the first program that gets installed and booted on to a new computer. The purpose of an operating system is so that the end user can interact with the computer and hardware, helping him/her use the right software/apps needed depending on what operating system they are using. • 11. The Hindu Temple Of Atlanta A Hindu temple contains a very different religious experience compared to what I ve previously experienced in the past. Perhaps the most obvious difference comes from just how individual it can be compared to a group service for example. While there is a portion of the service that is led by a priest for the vast majority of your stay the experience is really upon you and you alone. While there are traditions to follow it s still a unique experience. During my attendance at the Hindu temple of Atlanta I almost assuredly didn t follow all of the customs and traditions but nevertheless, did my best to at least not offend my hosts. The experience was alien compared to anything else I ve ever experienced in this capacity and to be honest ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The setup of this temple was similar to the other with deities lining the outer perimeter. In this area after circling the building was led into an inner chamber with a few followers. Eight people were placed to the right and the left of entry way to this sanctum and the priest was ritually chanting something. After a time he began ritually feeding the deity by offering a small amount of liquid before it s mouth before pouring it into a basin above. He then takes a flame and spins it around multiple times. The priest then took a flame to each follower to hold their hands around. He then takes the liquid from early and offers it to assembled people. They each take a sip of the liquid then splash the remainder over their heads. The priest then takes a large ornate metal hat and places it on each followers head. Then, fruit was given to each follower there some of children kept it while some of them seemed to be used to give a food offering to some of the statues of deities. Upon leaving food was serviced to guests in the form of a spicy rice. Lastly, upon going to leave I noticed that one of the priests had gone outside with some food to offer it to a statue of a deity though, this wasn t a part of the service directly It was clearly a part of their daily lives. • 12. Fear Of Friday The 13th Paraskavedekatriphobia Approximately every 212 days Friday the 13th occurs, while some may stay in bed all day to avoid the bad luck, others will embrace it and joke about the superstitions. Friday the 13th has many superstitions around the day. Some fear the day Friday, others may ear the number 13, while others fear the combination of Friday and 13. Psychologists have named the fear of Friday the 13th paraskavedekatriaphobia. Many have a fear of this day from myths, religious beliefs, and even human research. One origin of the superstition of Friday the 13th occur due to Dan Brown s The Da Vinci Code. In his book on Friday 13, October 1307 hundreds of Knights Templar were arrested and burnt across France. Knights Templar were a religious group of unmarried men who came together to protect Christians during the Crusades. Christians then began showing thanks through giving them their land and money which made the kings very wealthy. 1307 French King Phillip IV was running out of money so he decided to go after the Templars money. He accused the men of heresy and arrested them. A popular theory is that the Templars discovered the Holy Grail or a unorthodox religious secret. Another popular theory is that Templars became the Freemasons. A religious superstition of Friday the 13th is Catholic belief. Judas, an apostle that was said to betray Jesus was the 13th guest at the Last Supper. Jesus Christ was crucified on a Friday. Converse All Stars started out being a basketball shoe. It was started by a man named Chuck Taylor. It was founded in 1908.(Hiestand) When Chuck Taylor started the All Star, it impacted the basketball world significantly until new companies made more practical basketball shoes, and Converse became the footwear for all ¨cool kids.¨ Athletes gave up wearing Converse on the courts, and famous people began to show that they were cool to wear while not playing basketball. ¨The All Star, whose pivoting abilities, ankle support and non skid sole had been championed for a half century, was repositioned as a shoe for non athletes. It was no longer the choice of the NBA and college power forwards, but of the Rolling Stones on their 1989 ¨Steel Wheels¨ concert tour and of high school hipsters turned off by the slick marketing of Nike and Reebok (Leibowitz). • 14. Prosthetic Hip Dislocation And Its Effects Prosthetic Hip Dislocation A prosthetic hip dislocation means that your artificial hip joint (prosthesis) has moved out of place. This can happen because of a hard, direct hit or injury (trauma) to the hip, such as a fall. A prosthetic hip joint may be more likely to dislocate than a normal hip joint because a prosthetic hip joint does not have all the structures that normally hold the joint in place. After the prosthetic hip is moved back into place, you will generally recover fully. Prosthetic hip dislocation is a medical emergency that requires immediate treatment. CAUSES This condition is often caused by trauma to the hip. Trauma may be caused by: Falls, especially falls from a height. Motor vehicle accidents. Contact sports. Industrial accidents. RISK FACTORS This condition is more likely to develop in: People over 60 years of age. People with bone loss (osteoporosis). People who lack vitamin D. People who are overweight or obese. The main drawback within the European Union was its economy. If one country within the organization were to have economic crisis then that country would affect all other country members. This was made clear in 2010 with the economic crisis presented in Greece. Many other countries within the Union were left to bail out the Greece economy; which in turn, hurt their own economies. (Butler 77) The books Frankenstein by Mary Shelley and Parable of the Sower by Octavia E. Butler are both science fiction novels warning of a dangerous potential future. Frankenstein looks at the dangers of creating artificially intelligent beings, while Parable of the Sower explores human savagery in the collapse of American civilization as the result of poor political decisions. Each addresses concerns of the time they were published. While both are pessimistic views of the future and both require the suspension of disbelief, the concept of dystopia and utopia is definitely apparent in both novels. A dystopia being a world in which nothing is perfect and a utopia being a perfect world. Frankenstein addresses a timeless issue that modern science may soon make a reality, while Parable of the Sower creates an alarming depiction of conservative leadership. Frankenstein is an early depiction of the creation of artificial intelligence, an idea with great significance today. While artificially intelligent beings such as golems exist in myth as the product of magic, scientific progress has the true potential to make such beings. In modern times, the subject is frequently discussed with regard to computers being programmed to think, in an imitation of the human brain. • 20. A Research On How Social Networking Many people worldwide are affiliated with social networks everyday. Keith Wilcox and Andrew Stephan s did a research on how social networking, particularly Facebook, was used to boost one s self esteem with tie strengths. Tie strength can be defined as strong or weak. Strong ties can be described as the close connection to their friends, while weak ties are considered their acquaintances that are distant friends (Wilcox Stephan, 2013, p. 92). Wilcox and Stephan s hypothesis propose that the enhanced self esteem from browsing a social network will momentarily lower self control, leading people to display less self control after browsing a social network compared to those who did not browse a social network (Wilcox Stephan, 2013, p.92). Since people care more about their image to strong ties, this effect will be on people who are focused on strong ties while browsing the social network. Wilcox and Stephan expect social network use to have little effect on the self control of those focused on weak ties while browsing a social network (2013, p.92). This paper will help one understand their motives that take place while social networking. Five studies were done through out this paper, but only three were very supportive of their theory. The first study focused on proving social networking use increases self esteem primarily for those focused on strong ties while browsing the network (Wilcox Stephan, 2013, p. 93). They expected that those focused on strong ties would have a positive impact on self esteem, but what they did not expect was the same for weak ties as well. • 21. Analyzing Seamus Heaney s Blackberry-Picking The poem Blackberry Picking is about a young man s coming of age, and how the lesson he learns, about picking blackberries, relates to the human realization that reality is not always how we want it to be. Seamus Heaney illustrates this lesson by showing the narrator s unabiding desire for the blackberries when he speaks of the lust for picking and how he was willing to go out in the fields to pick the blackberries despite having to go where briars scratched and wet grass bleached our boots in obvious discomfort (7 8,10). Furthermore, after the blackberries had turned bad the narrator clearly tells us, each year I hoped they d keep, knew they would not (24). This final bit at the end shows how the narrator matures and has come to accept ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The first thing that is noticeable about the way Seamus wrote this poem is his use of rhyme or lack thereof. He uses slant rhymes throughout most of the poem an example being sun and ripen on lines one and two. This could be interpreted to portray how the speaker feels. The speaker wants the blackberries to stay sweet despite his experience picking blackberries that would always end up rotting. At the same time, the slant rhymes are so close to rhyming, but never fully do creating a bittersweet feeling that symbolizes how the speaker loves the blackberries, but how he hates how they rot. In the text this is reinforced when he says, I always felt like crying. It wasn t fair (22). Another example of Seamus creating this bittersweet tone in the poem is how he uses iambic pentameter throughout most of the poem, but similar to how the slant rhymes don t quite work, on every couple of lines he breaks the meter and adds an extra syllable. This feeling is continued throughout the poem until the second stanza when Seamus starts to correct these things. He does this by starting to write in true iambic pentameter except for one time on line 21 when sour adds two extra syllables sustaining the rhythm he built up, but still adding emphasis to the word sour. Seamus connects the bitter sweet or sour tone to a line that is out of place. Eventually, the poem is exactly what it ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

What about all those people who look down at the immigrants and always blame them for the bad things there happening? And is it a strong society if it cannot provide its citizens? In Denmark we are having a hard time accepting our immigrants. We blame them for almost everything. But it is not our immigrants in general; it is primarily those from the Middle East. If the immigrants come from Sweden, France, England and so on, we have no problems with them. We do not blame them for those things there going bad, but why? Is it because of the cultural differences, or is it just easier to blame the Arabs after 9/11? In the UK and the US they have more success by integrating the immigrants, but they do as well experience the same problems with the immigration of Arabs. I believe that it is a result of the huge media covering of the terror situation in the world. And as long as the media are exhibiting people from the Middle East as terrorists there will be a general negative opinion about the Arab people, and therefore the accepting of the people from Arabian will be difficult. The problem with the immigrants is the missing integration of them in the society. But the Danes cannot be blamed for this, because the immigrants are trans national. • 23. Essay on Progression of the Kouroi Progression of the Kouroi What is a kouros? In Greek, kouros means a young man. In art, a kouros is a statue of a young nude male who stands with his hands at his sides and one leg, usually his left, advanced. Throughout the Archaic period, which dates from 610 B.C. to 480 B.C., the basic pose of kouroi (plural for kouros) remained the same, though the anatomy of the figures gradually became more naturalistic or true to life. The ideology that the Greek sculptors wanted to achieve greater naturalism is proven through the progression of the kouroi during the period. In May of 1992, the Kouros was displayed in Athens, Greece, at an international conference on its authenticity. Although the majority of art historians and archeologists condemn it, most of the scientists believe the Kouros to be authentic. Up to this day, the question of the Getty Kouros authenticity remains a mystery for the statue is still dated as Greek, 530 B.C. or modern forgery. The controversy of the authenticity of the Getty Kouros will be addressed shortly after the characterization of the kouros. Kroisos, a kouros from a cemetery at Anavysos, most resembles the Getty Kouros. By comparing the Getty Kouros shown at different angles with Kroisos a lot of similarities can be seen. The placement of the feet on the base in relation to the position of the hands and the shoulders, as well as details of the head, can help to determine whether a kouros turns to the left or right. Martin Luther whose lifespan was from 1483 to 1546 studied in the University of Wittenberg where he studied greatly under the laws of sola fide, sola gratia, and sola scriptura which meant by faith alone, by grace alone, by scripture alone. During that time he often question the way Catholics would handle their ways of teaching one example was that the only way to get into heaven was through sacraments, pilgrimages, and donations. Martin Luther often saw that the Catholic Church was corrupt which was why at one point he wrote the 95 theses and posted it on the door of the Castle Church in Wittenberg which challenged the teaches of the Catholic Church as well as the authority of the pope. • 33. Body Shape Of Beauty In America, beauty has high, superficial standards. Women are especially expected to have the perfect body shape: tall and thin with a small waist, big breasts, and a big butt. In reality, only about 5% of the American population has the ideal body shape (CITE). However, women do not randomly come up with these issues of their bodies out of the blue. Media plays a large role in the standards set for women. Magazines, television, and social media all use Photoshop or some other editing software to make women look perfect . The standards set for women in particular are unrealistic and are in turn making young girls have serious self esteem issues. These standards need to be shattered because America needs to embrace all body shapes and promote self love instead of self hate. The ideal body shape for women has changed over the years. Until the 1900s, being curvy and voluptuous was striven for. During the late 1800s to early 1900s, the Gibson Girl body was all the rage. These women were the ones that started the tiny waist trend, using corsets to tighten their stomachs. The tiny waist was paired with a big bust to emphasize the fragile, but curvy body. The 1920s went for more of a lean figure with a short, bob haircut. During the 40s and 50s, pin up models became very popular. Marilyn Monroe was the most iconic female of this time. Her body was nowhere near perfect and was fuller. However, these times were much like the times now, except that artists would draw the model and give her longer legs, a bigger bust, etc. Today, we have photoshop to do that for us. Once the 1960s hit, being thin started trending. Twiggy was the style icon of the decade, with her twig thin body and pixie cut hair. This is still a big trend today. However in recent years, plus size women have started to be more accepted. With that being said, the plus size women that magazines show are not truly plus sized, but just a bit larger than the super skinny models. Although men are not in the limelight as much as women are, they still have undergone changing beauty standards as well. Men have also gone through body shape trends. • 39. How Did Israel s Food Rations Contribute To The Creation... THE DIVISION OF ISRAEL Under the reign of Solomon, Israel reached great economic and political heights along with its security and prosperity. Solomon was renowned for his wisdom, wealth and building projects, but with these projects came heavy taxes and harsh labour on his people. After his death, the kingdom was divided into two separate kingdoms, north and south. The biblical record accounts for the division as a consequence for him staying from God, but his tax and labour laws and new administrative districts also lead to friction within his people. The immature leader that followed him amplified this friction. One of the contributing factors to the division was the heavy tax imposed on the people. This came in the form of food rations for both the Kings court. The writer of kings records the massive daily provisions of the king s palace, which included milled flour and livestock. The 12 new administrative provided these rations monthly. This caused major angst within the country as Judah was excluded from providing rations. In a research conducted by Leroy and colleagues IgG antibody to Ebola was recorded in 8.3% of the fruit bats under study. This study hypothesized that fruit bats are the natural reservoir for Ebola virus. According to results of laboratory studies, fruit bats have been able to support replication of Ebola Virus without showing any symptoms of Ebola hemorrhagic fever (Leroy, Kumulungui, Pourrut et al. 2006). Because the most common form of infection remains direct contact with bodily fluids (Bardi, 2002), it has been suggested Ebola infected human when hunters came in to contact with infected primate carcasses. During the first outbreak, with little knowledge of the mode of infection, home caregivers and hospital staff became the next line of victims. Secondary transmission also occurred in hospital where unsterilized needles and syringes were reused. The only recorded case in Brittan occurred as a result from accidental laboratory infection. • 43. Tale Of Two Cities Inhumanity Essay In France, the years between 1789 and 1799 were a time of thoughtless inhumanity and brutality toward fellow man. These inhumane acts are carried through the by Revolutionaries and the nobility of France in these years and the years leading up to the French Revolution. The best illustration of the inhumanity felt and shown during this time is A Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens. Dickens uses metaphors as symbols throughout this book to exemplify his theme of thoughtlessness toward people from other people. Dickens develops these metaphors throughout the novel and manipulates them to fit different circumstances. He uses every day objects and ideas and makes them personifications of the Revolution and their unsympathetic mindsets and agendas. One example that helped identify this lesson is when Colin was about to surrender because he was very tired but ended up continuing to run away so the documents wouldn t fall into the wrong hands (27). Another example is when Jack Ryan Jr. wanted to cancel an operation in North Korea because it was too hard on him, but he continued it and discovered valuable information. According to the iceberg model of culture, this group typically shares the same behaviors, beliefs, and values and thought patterns. As someone whose response to the question where are you from? sounds more like strained sounds than actual words, I have struggled tremendously with determining the cultural identities that construct my identity. I often feel more like a cultural chameleon than an individual possessing cultural identities, the constant change from one culture to the next leaving me feeling bereft of my own. However, upon deeper reflection, I have come to realize that it is my identity that is fluid, as prescribed in the critical perspective of identity, and is in constant development, as prescribed in the interpretive perspective of identity. While my identity is adaptable and evolving, I do possess certain cultural identities. • 46. Imperialization Of Greek Civilization Very few civilizations have had as profound an influence on the world as those of ancient Greece. The Greeks laid the foundations for fields varying from philosophy to political theory to war tactics. However, this influence was not just due to their intelligence or success, but their widespread presence in the Mediterranean. Greek culture was spread throughout their known world in two distinct manners, the foundation of apoikia in the Archaic Age (8th century to 500 B.C. ) and imperialists by poleis, primarily Athens of the Classical Age (490 323 B.C ). Though the culture of a mother city (mētropolis) may have spread through two very different manners of colonization. The word is not used in the literal sense, but rather hereafter used to mean spreading of culture , as the former can hardly be described using the contemporary definition of colonization and the latter was through Athenian empire building. These developments had a significant impact on ancient Greece and our modern perception thereof. Like most of the ancient world, we can best analyze these methods of colonialism through extant artifacts. I will analyze an inscription of the foundation oath of Cyrene, which recounts the decision and manner in which the island of Thera sent its citizens to the form a new polis, and the fragments of the Lapis Primus, a marble monolith that documented tributes to Athens when the city was at the peak of its imperial age, evidencing the magnitude of their power and influence in the Greek region. The Cyrene inscription is a short oath from the 4th century B.C. that describes, from three centuries prior, the Theran rationale behind forming Cyrene, the manner in which they undertook this expedition, and their perception of the newly formed city. The inscription claims that Apollo spontaneously ordered the Therans to send a group of people to Libya in order to form a colony, with their citizen Battos as the king. The Theran assembly decided to send one son from each household, who was in the prime of life, 4 along with any free man who desired to leave, to colonize Cyrene. Through all of her suffering and misery, she does end up being happy, living with the man that she loves, and has loved, all along. This man is not St. John. For once in these novels, marriage isn t actually about wealth; but of course, there is also a lacking of affection, in this case. John sees it fit that Jane marry him because she would make a great missionary wife...and that is all. Jane also knows that St. John would have the motive to have sexual relations with her, because that s what husbands and wives do, even if there is no warm feeling involved at all. Another reason for Jane s declining is because marriage to St. John would mean sacrificing passion and love for reason and principle. At one point, St. John invites Jane to come to India with him, for six weeks, as a missionary and his wife. In doing this, John explains, she would have the chance to make a more meaningful contribution to society than she would as a housewife (or, in other words, than she would with anyone else). • 50. Visual Pleasure And Narrative Cinema From an issue that was discussed in class, we discussed about the gaze. In Laura Mulvey s Visual Pleasure and Narrative Cinema she discusses about scopophilia, which is the pleasure in looking which also incorporates exhibitionism (pleasure in being looked at). This term also applies to cinema. She focuses on the idea of the male gaze in cinema, where films are created in favor of the male audience. Thus the action of cinema compromises of women as image, man are bearer of the look . Mulveys states that women in the film industry are catogarized on two levels, where woman are seen as erotic objects for the characters within the film and also erotic objects for the spectators of the film. She then moves on to criticize famed director Alfred Hitchcock s film Rear Window for how he portrayed woman in the film. Alfred Hitchcock s movie correlates to Mulvey s ideas which support her theories of scopophilia and voyeurism in cinema, she believed that the film exploits the male gaze and how it antagonises woman in an anti feminism manner. In the film, the main actor is restricted in his apartment due to his broken leg from his latest assigned project. He spends most of his time watching his neighbours from his window and later comes to suspect one of his neighbour murdering his bed ridden wife when we suddenly disappears from sight. The centre of conflict deriving from the Catholic and Protestant divide, which caused conflict within politics and the military, because the opposing sides fought over religious territory and popularity. The centre of the conflict within these sectors of religion was The Reformation and the wars which followed, which created a struggle for power as different religions gained new support and thus power, and others experienced reduced power as a result. The resulting political and military turmoil created the growth of secularism, which attempted to stabilize politics and the military by increasing control.
