How Does Kurt Vonnegut Use Government Control In Harrison...
In the short story Harrison Bergeron by Kurt Vonnegut, the future government has attempted to
convince everyone that everything is equal by giving people handicaps. George wears handicaps,
which are earpieces, and weights because he is smart and strong. Hazel is dumb and has no handicaps.
Hazel and George have a son, Harrison Bergeron, who was taken away by handicapper men because
he was smart, strong, tall, cute, and dangerous. Harrison later escaped jail and showed up at the news
studio declaring himself emperor and started pulling off his handicaps. Diana Moon Glampers, the
handicapper general shoots Harrison while he is dancing. Kurt Vonnegut had Harrison Bergeron killed
in the end to show hopelessness in the society by taking away choice, ... Show more content on

He showed that he wanted choice, so he broke in and got shot because the government did not like the
idea of anyone having choice so Diana killed him. Having was unequal so it was not allowed because
of how the government controlled the world. Second of all, by trying to create government control
they tried putting handicaps on people to think they were equal and made it impossible for anyone to
do anything without the risk of going to jail or being killed, because that would be unequal and
everyone thought that they were all actually equal except harrison and he escaped jail and stood up to
the government and ripped off his handicaps and the government shot him to create government
control because he broke the law. Lastly by trying to make everyone average the government used
handicaps to help make the world equal by taking away people s strength and intelligence to make
them average so they can t be better than anyone. But Harrison couldn t be average no matter what
they did to him so they took him to jail and he escaped and was way more intelligent, strong, and
handsomer than the average person so when he escaped the government killed him to keep the
averageness in

IT Audit and Control
October 15, 2016
Abstract
This paper represents the IT Audit and Control course and will address the following four issues.
 We will elaborate the COSO Risk Management Framework and COSO s ERM process.
 We will propose to management the method that they need to take to implement an effective ERM
program. This will comprise the concerns and the organizational impact they might meet if they do not
implement an effective ERM program.
 We will examine the means for ascertaining key risk indicators (KRIs).
 We will recommend the approach that the organization needs to take in order to link the KRIs with
the organization s strategic initiatives.
The goals of this IT Audit and Control paper will be to demonstrate the student s understanding of the
structure to audit, secure and ensure internal controls in an information technology setting. Included
will be the technical and professional subjects in the context of technology driven audits, security,
privacy, business continuity, legislative and governance modifications.
COSO Risk Management Framework and COSO s ERM Process
I found during my research that the Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) framework outlines the
essential enterprise risk management mechanisms, examines key ERM principles and concepts,
recommends a shared ERM language, and offers clear control and support for enterprise risk
management. The Committee of Sponsoring

Privacy, Laws, and Security Measures Essay
Today, there are many threats to information systems and the information contain contained on the
servers by customers and employees. There are major privacies issues facing organizations from
hackers, employees, natural disasters, and other threats. Some of the privacies issues can be risk to the
sporting goods store and justify the concerns of the CEO. There are security risks and application laws
which governs the privacy risks. Security measures can be implement by organizations which can
mitigate the risk to private information. Organizations face major privacy issues when it comes to

Accidental disclosure could be by word of mouth, lost papers or throwing paper away without
destroying it, or an employee losing a laptop, jump drive, or other mobile media. The sporting goods
store could potentially have privacy risks based on the major privacy issues discussed above. Since the
store accept credit card sales in the store and over the web via e Commerce transactions, the store
needs to protect credit card information. The internal network is more secure because of the DMZ,
which has at least two firewalls in between the internet and the internal network. According to
Easttom (2006), the DMZ is a demilitarized zone in which gives an additional layer of protection
between the internet services and the backend of the corporation resources, (Easttom, 2006). An
attacker may get into the DMZ, could cause problems with the web server and by then should be
detected, disconnected, or trap the attacker in the DMZ to prevent the attacker from getting into the
internal network. The email server is used for email communication with business partners and
customers, a man in the middle attack could intercept emails and forward the emails to their
destination while copying the message to the attacker. Another risk to privacy is the wireless network,
it needs to be locked down to prevent unauthorized access and use of the wireless to get into the
internal network. Facebook does leave the company open to viruses which can be planted on the page

Analysis Of A River Runs Through It By Norman Maclean
The natural world has a unique power unequivocal to anything human to make one deeply
contemplative, introspective, and observant of the universe around them. Norman Maclean testifies to
this power in his novella A River Runs Through It. Through his eulogy to the Blackfoot river Norman
Maclean captures the human soul and what it means to grow up, his story explaining how a river
affects a man. Robert Redford s movie adaptation, while maintaining the core importance of the
Blackfoot river, focuses on the interpersonal relationships Norman develops throughout his life and
how those affect his character and life choices. A River Runs through it encapsulates the emotional
growth Norman undergoes growing up via his relationship with the river ... Show more content on

For Maclean, the river was always highly personal he even refers to it as my family s river multiple
times demonstrating the profound effect it had on his upbringing. The deepest familial moments such
as Norman offering Paul help, discussing life plans, or Norman finding common ground with his
father, all occur while fishing on the Blackfoot or in transit to it.
Maclean also uses the rivers changing topography to reveal his emotions once he returns to Montana
from his time at Dartmouth, a much more metropolitan refined place. He writes, the family river
changed find that quote , and appears melancholy, but later comes to accept that things have changed
and time moves forward. Once again viewing the river as something of personal ownership reveals
Norman s own emotions about himself. He sees that the river and town has grown, with development
along the river altering its serenity but then he begins to accept the change (find quote) as part of the
cycle of growth and acceptance. Because he uses the river to represent himself, his long thoughts
about the industry developing symbolize norman s internal conflict returning to a very different
Missoula than the one he left. The moment he learns to accept that things change, like the town
becoming larger and more urban, and cannot be the same forever marks the peak of character growth.
Throughout the entire novella, these emotional changes are highlighted through metaphors involving

Moral Law In Antigone
The play Antigone by Sophocles present different aspects of conflicts such as ... Social vs. moral laws
in the ancient cultures. The ability to follow the desired moral law brings various results and different
reactions from the society. Going against the law of Creon in the play brings consequences such as
being branded the name the traitor and facing punishment by the state. Similarly, in today s world
going against the law leads to serious effects and punishment by the state law. A good example is the
imprisonment of a couple in Florida for helping the homeless. Despite the state law however, I believe
that moral law should not be neglected especially if it serves humanity and only brings economic and
social benefits to a country. According ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In reference to the homeless, well wishers should be allowed to do what they believe regarding their

cultural values to bury and perform rituals when a person dies and this whereby he demands that
Polyneices should be dumped and not buried. This brought about negative implications whereby his
son and wife committed suicide due to the death of Antigone. In conclusion, the play Antigone by
Sophocles presents a clear understanding of how the society can suffer when they decide to follow
their moral laws that are against the state law. Antigone and Haemon suffer as a result of going against
the law of Creon. Similarly, the case of the two couples in Florida ends up being imprisoned because
of going against the state law and feeding the homeless people. However, despite the consequences of

Queer Identity Essay
At the same time we denote about what queer is as a social theory, led us to point at LGBT movement

queers were known as Gay in the West. Later it began to be used in the manner we note these days to

basic reason is a question about the structure based theory of identity, held by postmodernist and on
entering it into the sexual socio sexual literature of queer.
Another reason may be considered that LGBT is the first took ownership of this social movement. As
LGBT foundations, ACT UP and Queer Nation which is founded in March 1990 took an important

word of Queer consciously and strategically, and they consciously embraced the opposite face of the

Making Pottery On A Wheel
Making pottery on a wheel is a form of art that takes time and skill. Each piece is unique, but each one
is made using the same process. Learning the basic process of spinning pottery will begin you on the
path to making a successful and beautiful bowl or vase. It is so easy to become addicted to this type of
artwork, especially if you are a perfectionist like me, because of the symmetry and small details
involved. Ceramics takes time to make, however the outcome is definitely worth it.
Clay, a wheel, and water are basic necessities in making pottery. Going to a pottery shop or, if you are
in school, taking a ceramics class can be the easiest ways to get ahold of these materials. Some other
things you will probably want to use is sponges and a set of tools. Tools are used to help sculpt the
pottery which will be put into more detail late. Also, when spinning clay, it can make a mess so I
highly suggest an apron or clothes you do not mind getting dirty.
To begin making your piece of pottery you will need clay. Clay usually comes in massive blocks so
cut off approximately a four by four inch block. This block must be transformed into a sphere to make
it easier to center. Smacking the corners in on the block with your hands helps make this sphere. If you
have troubles forming the sphere with your hands alone, use a table to roll it. Use the center of your
hand and move the clay in circular motion to create the sphere.
Once the clay is formed in a sphere you will take it to the

Ethnic Conflict In The Bosnian Genocide
Bosnia is a complicated country: three religions, three nations and those others . Nationalism is strong
in all three nations; in two of them there are a lot of racism, chauvinism, separatism; and now we are
supposed to make a state out of that ( Alija Izetbegovic Quote ). This quote clearly reflects the
Bosnian ethnic conflict. It states seemingly that there is a lot of racism between each ethics and they
want their own state. The ethnic conflict occurred in a really long time since Bosnian separated from
Yugoslavia. Then, there is Bosnian Genocide that took place between 1992 and 1995. The Bosnian
Genocide was the conflict between Serbs and Bosnian Muslims, the ethnic conflict, was stopped by
the NATO and United Nation.

Dance Salsa Research Paper
Dance has always been a part of my life, whether it was from the first day my mom taught me salsa in
the family room to now performing in front of huge crowds around my community. Whether its
ballroom, west coast, or country, I have been able to express myself in ways that I never thought
possible. Through my commitment and perseverance I strive to become a better and more
knowledgeable dancer every day. I continue to learn new things and search for opportunities to widen
my horizons and interact with the dance community. My passion grows with me as I grow as a dancer
and I hope to be able to share that passion with others for the rest of my life.
I started dance at the age of 8, well officially that is. Long before then however I had begun to learn
from my mom. We would spend our Sunday s cleaning the house listening to latin music and she
would teach me how to dance salsa. That was how I first discovered what it was to dance. I kept
learning and having fun with her every week until a talent show at my school offered me an
opportunity to showcase (what I thought at the time) was a vast amount of knowledge. So I told my
mother about it, but she thought that our days spent learning salsa were just harmless fun with no big
aims such as the one I had presented her with. So she said no. And ... Show more content on

that I couldn t even try to wrap my head around. But above it all these people were having fun. The
dancers were wrapped up in the moment smiling, having the time of their lives. The competition didn t
matter to them, it was about enjoying the art of dance. And I knew right away that it was something I

children should be displayed to how much life sucks as early as possible. It was later moved to a more

Alternatives to Building More Dams
I was intimidated. Actually, let me be honest, I feared a thrashing at the hands of the River God.
Trembling muscles warned me to just shoulder my boat and walk. I couldn t. I traveled all the way

Colorado to run this river? I considered the the portage again; it s an impressive drop with no shame in

The Yellow Wallpaper By Charlotte Perkins Gilman
Mental Illness and Confinement in the 19th Century: Escaping The Yellow Wallpaper
Charlotte Perkins Gilman (1860 1935) whom is most acclaimed for her short story The Yellow
Wallpaper (1891) was a women s author that was relatively revolutionary. Gilman makes an appalling
picture of captivity and confinement in the short story, outlining a semi personal photo of a young lady
experiencing the rest cure treatment by her spouse, whom in addition to being her husband was also
her therapist. Gilman misused the rest cure in The Yellow Wallpaper to alarm other ladies of the
harming impacts of the treatment.
In 1887 after the conception of her little girl, Gilman turned out to be seriously depressed and looked
for treatment for anxious weariness by therapist Silas Weir Mitchell. Mitchell s rest cure comprised
bed rest, seclusion, overloading, and knead/power massage on her muscles. At the point when Gilman
understood that Mitchell s treatment compounded her sorrow, she cleared out both her spouse and
specialist. Quite a while later, Gilman composed The Yellow Wallpaper as a response to her doctor
Mitchell s recommended rest cure. In her paper Why I Wrote The Yellow Wallpaper? Gilman
commented Being naturally moved by this narrow escape, I wrote The Yellow Wallpaper with its
embellishments and additions to carry out the ideal (I never had hallucinations or objections to my
mural decorations) and sent a duplicate to the doctor who so nearly drove me mad. He never

Theogony And The Biblical Book Of Genesis, Hesiod And Genesis
At first glance, the story of how it all began in Hesiod s Theogony, and in the Biblical book of Genesis
reveals certain similarities that I picked up on. Hesiod and Genesis share the same order of events:
mankind exists in alongside heavenly beings in utopia where there is just; a woman is introduced into
this utopian world; the actions of the woman produces the loss of before said utopia. This pattern is
used by both works of literature to better explain the presence of problems such as chaos and turmoil
in human existence, and both Hesiod and Genesis credit the first woman with these problems. In a
journal article Published by The Johns Hopkins University Press, the author declares that It is
especially striking that the biblical ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(Genesis 3.16)
But despite these similarities, Eve and Pandora are characteristically different. Unlike Pandora, Eve is
not naturally evil. She was created from one of Adams ribs, making Eve of the same material and
nature as her husband. Pandora, conversely, is basically different from man. I figured this because
Hesiod does not give a significant story of how man came to be in these sections, but Pandora s
attributes from the gods, including both her beauty and her deceitfulness, marks her as a separate
individual. However, Eve is meant to be a companion for Adam, to say that Pandora was a gift is
plainly ironic. This inconsistency is at the difference between the women. Pandora is a punishment for
man. Theogony exposes this, by calling her evil for man or through the instance with the jar, which is
an indicator of her deceitful nature. Neither work specifies if Pandora actually undergoes suffering
alongside man. Eve, however, is a victim of her actions as much as Adam is, and these two suffer
together, if not wholly in the same way.
Despite their inherent differences, I do believe they are similar in how they are portrayed as the less
significant sex. Despite Eve being created from Adam, she was not created of an entirely new
framework such as Adam, as if she was not important enough to do so. Both Pandora and Eve were
created secondly both

Ancient Civilizations
The Connections Between Ancient Civilizations
A civilization is born through the domestication of plants and animals followed by the cultivation of
these products in which a surplus allows for the specialization of labor. Civilizations allowed for
humans to create order and pursue intellectual and spiritual matters to a degree in which man had not
previously been allowed. Most ancient civilizations arose from a fertile farming location and
predictable harvest. When basic needs have been provided for the specialization of labor can provide a
culture a chance at endless artistic and technological advances. An analysis of the characteristics of
civilization demonstrates common threads which connect the ancient societies of Sumeria, Egypt, and
the Indus River Valley. Many of these connections can be found within each civilization s religion,
government, location, language, trade, and technology.
The deepest connection that binds Sumeria, Egypt, and the Indus River Valley together is their
location on a prominent river. Rivers provide rich fertile topsoil and access to freshwater, which
together are a recipe for life. Without these pockets of agricultural paradise these civilizations may not
have been formed at all. With societies such as Egypt, the Nile river was a calm, predictable, and
benevolent god. This allowed for the Egyptian people to use basic irrigation techniques such as the
Basin technique. This allowed for the regular flood waters to be contained and replenish the

Robotic Surgery Essay
Robotic Surgery
Robots are used in everyday life. They are in cars, our houses, and many places we do not care to
notice, as they have become a necessity for daily living. Advancements have been made, that allow for
robots to be used in surgery. Robotic surgery is relatively new to the medical industry and it is often
underrated. Robotic surgery offers greater efficiency, and utility than that provided through traditional
surgical methods. The most traditional and common way of performing surgery is laparoscopically.
This means the surgery is performed while looking through a small, camera inserted into the patient s
body. Though this technique is minimally invasive, it poses disadvantages, which can be overcome
with the use of robotics in surgery.
Robotic surgery is new compared to cell phones and laptops, however the surgical practice has been
around since the 1980 s. The first recorded use of robotics in surgery was in 1985, when the PUMA
560 robotic arm was used in a brain surgery (neurosurgical biopsy). This surgery laid the foundation
for a plethora of groundbreaking operations and a brand new scientific branch pursued into the twenty
first century. In 1998, after several years of development and advancements, Ralph Damiano Jr.
performed robotically assisted heart bypass surgery (Ditlea 2). This surgery is regarded as one of the
most difficult operations a surgeon can perform. The use of robotics in surgery remained throughout
the remainder of the twentieth century and

Canadian Constitution Essay
The Canadian Constitution
Regarded as the fundamental law of the land, a Constitution is important because it sets forth the
policy declaration and principles of a sovereign state. Aside from that, it accords the government
fundamental powers so that the latter is able to serve and protect the people in the best possible way.
Without the Constitution, a community will fall into anarchy. For the purposes of this paper, the
history of the promulgation of the Canadian Constitution will be discussed. This paper will also assess
the purpose of the said Constitution.

Thus, it authorizes the state to exercise its inherent powers and at the same time, limiting such
exercise. To make it simple, the Constitution creates the systems of government of a certain state. The
Government of Canada (n.d.). mentioned that Canada has three branches of the government: the
executive, the legislative, and the judiciary. In Canada, the Queen exercises the executive power. The
legislative branch is known as the parliament. The parliament is comprised of the Senate and the
House of Commons (Government of Canada, n.d.). This is where bills are passed and subsequently
become laws. The judiciary is comprised of judges. They are burdened with the responsibility of

Constitution. The fundamental powers granted by the Constitution to the government enable the latter
to intervene and regulate people s liberty and rights. However, this intervention is not absolute
because the Constitution also provides for its limits. There is a need to authorize the government and
limit it at the same time so that its authority and the liberty and exercise of rights of the citizens are

Sickle Cell Disease Paper
This mutation paper is to give information on the Sickle Cell disease. This is a negative disease to
have because the Sickle Cell Disease decreases the health of the person that has the disease and limits
what they can and cannot do. Sickle Cell Disease is a red blood cell disease that causes ab normal
hemoglobin to from in the veins. Hemoglobin is the protein that carries oxygen throughout the body to
help with the respiratory system. The cause of the genetic mutation is inheritance or getting the
disease from the parents the disease is found on chromosome 13 while the hemoglobin is still in beta
phase on gene HB A. The disease typically shows symptoms within the first 5 to 6 months of birth and
being diagnosed with Sickle Cell Disease. The symptoms include painful swelling on the hands and
feet, and Jaundice, which causes a white color to form under the eyes, and turns the skin color yellow.
To test for the diagnosis, you must get the testing done when you are first born or a person can get the
disease when you are older so people may want to do a test every 10 years. The testing is done with a
blood test they prick your finger to draw some blood and put the blood sample under a microscope to

conclusion, the Sickle Cell Disease is a negative one to have even though there are not many people
who have the disease. Still for the people who have the disease it is negative because the disease limits
what they can do and shortens their chance of survival. This is the side of the argument that argues

Essay about Ideologies, Narrative, Stereotypes and Discourses
According to French sociologist Pierre Bourdieu, a habitus is referring to a person s way of thinking,
acting, and behaving. A habitus is a structure that helps a person comprehend and deal with society. It
can be simply seen as a merger of society and the individual. (Wysocka, Paulina, 2013). Habitus is
both a structured structure the effect of the actions of, and our interactions with, others and a
structuring structure it suggests and constrains our future actions (Bourdieu, 1992). In other words,
habitus is both the embodiment of our social location (i.e., class, ethnicity, race, sexuality, gender,
generation, and nationality) (Noble amp; Watkins, 2003) and the structure of social relations that

According Oullette and Hay, shows like the biggest loser (and any other program based on changing
individual s lifestyles) work by shift blame from the concept of political government intervention to a
government of the self (Ouellette, L. amp; Hay, J, 2008) Ideology is basically a system of meaning
that helps define and explain the world and that makes value judgements about the world (Croteau,
David, Hoynes, William, Milan, Stefania, 2012). Ideology is related to but broader then concepts such
as world view, belief system and values. Ideologies do not necessarily reflect reality accurately but
often they present a distorted version of the world. (Croteau, David, Hoynes, William, Milan, Stefania,
2012). Karl Marx believes that the ruling class control ideology and used a trick to create an illusion
of fairness and harmony (Lane, Dr.Karen, 2013) This plainly brings into question human agency and
free will however one can argue that those influenced still have the ability to change it (Lane,
Dr.Karen, 2013). Italian theorist Antonio Gramsci argued that cultural domination is never fully
achieved and that audience awareness is evident but again cultural domination is always in contention
(Lane, Dr.Karen, 2013) Gramscian thesis of Hegemony also argued that ruling groups can maintain
their power through force, consent, or a combination of the two (Croteau, David, Hoynes, William,

A couple of months ago, T Mobile came out with a promotion that you can get two extra lines at no

I called customer service and they apologized for the mistake and they fixed it, which they fixed it and

Reunion In The Great Gatsby Essay
How does Fitzgerald present Gatsby s and Daisy s reunion as initially awkward in chapter 5?
Fitzgerald presents Gatsby and Daisy s reunion as initially awkward, through having their
conversations be stilled and abstruse, with both characters whereby behaving in an embarrassed and
vague manner. Furthermore, Fitzgerald also represents their initially awkward reunion through Nick,
of who bares witness to their reconciliation and of who, also, attempts to dissolve the tension between
the pair. Moreover, Fitzgerald also presents the awkward reunion, through Gatsby s panicked reaction
to Daisy, distraught eyes stared down , and also, his clumsy behaviour, whereupon he turned and
caught it with trembling fingers . However, Daisy s change ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Gatsby s strong and almost sudden reaction to Daisy speaking, proposes that Fitzgerald is attempting
to use emotive language, as to show Gatsby s urgency to resume some form of bond with Daisy.
However, due to Gatsby s abrupt and hurried reaction, the atmosphere, once again, becomes
constrained and abrasive, this shown when Nick narrates that, the automotive quality of Gatsby s
answer set us all back for another minute .
The use of Nick describing that Gatsby had Distraught eyes , suggests that Fitzgerald is trying to
perpetuate that Gatsby is nervous and scared to be within Daisy s presence, after so long. The use of
prenotification in this text, suggests that Fitzgerald is trying to foreshadow future circumstances
between the pair, but also, suggests that Gatsby is worried about their disconnected relationship.
Fitzgerald also uses emotive language within this text, with using Distraught , as to preserve the fact
that Gatsby is anxious and scared. This also perpetuates the sense of awkwardness between the pair, as
Gatsby is seen as being Distraught and positioning himself in a frigid manner, head leaned so far back
leaning against the mantelpiece , and Daisy being frightened but graceful , suggests that the pair are
having comparatively similar thoughts on the situation.
Fitzgerald also proposes the awkward nature of their initial meeting, through having Nick

Reflection Of The Piano
For this concert report, I am going to be focusing on the last piece of the concert, Beethoven s
Symphony no. 5 in C Minor, op. 67. This piece was written in the classical period. I am choosing this
piece to focus on because when I heard it, I felt that I was being told a story of a war and specifically
of a single soldier and his experience. Beethoven s Symphony no. 5 in C Minor, op. 67 has 4
movements throughout the piece. The first movement is Allegro con brio, the second Andante con
moto, and the third and fourth are both Allegro. The first movement, Allegro con Brio, starts the story
off in a battle focusing on a single soldier and his fight. The tempo was quite fast throughout the
movement making the idea of a battle taking place set in. The program has already stated that the
piece was in C Minor, but you can tell that it is by the sense of conflict and pain that is heard
throughout the piece. This first movement has a great variation of dynamics as well. There are long
sections of fortissimo that, to me, sound like the intense fighting, and then there are sections of piano
and mezzo piano that, to me, sound like lulls in the scene where the soldier notices something very sad
right before he is whisked back into the fight. This sense of a fight scene is also noted with the
technical styling of the movement. During the intense fights the melody is staccato and accented, and
during the points that the soldier can take a breath and look around at the horror unfolding

The Effects Of Arsenic Contamination On Soil Quality,...
Kerosene contamination affected soil physicochemical properties such as pH, total phosphorus and
microbial biomass which are important indicators for assessing soil quality, fertility and productivity.
Findings show that the soil used was a loamy soil and is know to belong to the alfisol series of the
USDA soil taxonomic system of classification (Ibia et al., 2002). The study shows that the higher
kerosene contamination levels, significantly delayed emergence and inhibited the germination of some
seeds. The poor emergence obtained at higher pollution levels of the oil treatment can be attributed to
poor aeration. In addition, the inhibition of germination may be due to the absorption of the oil by the
seeds, which caused them to be swollen ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The decrease in the relative growth rate of Zea Mays in this study due to kerosene oil treatment of soil
shows that the oil interrupted the growth of the plant. According to Kathirvelan and Kalaiselvan
(2007) the leaf surface area determines in large part the amount of carbon gained through
photosynthesis and the amount of water lost through transpiration and ultimately the crop yield.
Reduction in the leaf and plant height as was observed in this study implies that there would be low
photosynthetic efficiency of the plant as much of the solar energy emitted by the sun would not be
absorbed by plant for photosynthesis. This definitely leads to low yield of the plant with subsequent
low availability of food and poor economy due to low sales of such plant s products. Since the relative
growth rate measures the efficiency of seedling (Brand, 1991), the reduction in the relative growth rate
of Zea mays reported in this study imply that kerosene oil reduces the efficiency of the plant.
This study also shows that Zea mays did better in the polluted soil left for six months than in the
polluted soil left for three months and than the soil polluted and immediately planted on. This
confirms that with time, natural biodegradation occur and the kerosene polluted environment has
ability to purify itself, if and only if the source of pollutant is not intermittent.
Figure 1 to 6 shows that the lower kerosene contaminated soil did better than the

The Bible And Forgiveness
What injuries to yourself from others would you find especially hard to get over or forgive? Explain.
The Bible says, Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God
forgave you (Ephesians 4:32). I personally try to live by the Bible every day. Times do get hard and
certain circumstances hurt more than others, but we are all called to forgive one another at the end of
the day. Forgiveness and getting over a situation are, in my opinion, two separate acts. Forgiveness
should be given to all, but completely ignoring and disregarding the situation is not appropriate. I have
a hard time in trusting others; every person is broken and flawed, and although it is not always meant
to be intentionally hurtful, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Economics Of The Gold Standard Debate
Economics of Globalization

The Gold Standard Debate
Beginning in 1870, each nation converted their national currencies to their relative worth in gold. This
was called the Gold Standard and it has brought up many arguments between politicians,
businessmen, and organizations with prominent economists on whether or not to return to it. Although
there are multiple reasons why America should not return, there are also many resurfaced ideas that
would make it very profitable for us to do so. The United States abandoned the gold standard to
finance WWI. Shortly after the war was the beginning of the Great Depression. The Gold Standard
constrained governments from helping the financial system and the economy during this time. The
reason we abandoned the Gold Standard was because of the crisis our country and many others were
in. The Gold Standard began in 1870 in Britain, which ironically was the first country to go off of it in
1931. The United Stated adopted this policy in 1913, this guaranteed the amount of paper money you
had could be returned to the government for the amount it is worth in gold. This made paper money
actually worth something to citizens living in nations where they were unsure of the value. When gold
deposits were mined, the value of currency dropped. In America, printing money was the cause of
hyperinflation. During WWI, many countries abandoned the Gold Standard to finance the war then
returned shortly after. Then in 1929,

Physician-Assisted Suicide is Morally and Ethically...
The long time debate over medically assisted suicide, the presence of a doctor at a patient s suicide,
resurfaced again with the conviction of doctor Jack Kevorkian. Kevorkian was convicted of second
degree murder when he euthanized, or administered the injection himself, Thomas Youk on September
17, 1998. Dr. Kevorkian, an advocate and practitioner of medically assisted suicides, has many
opponents on the issue. Opponents say that it is unethical and even with the consent of the patient that
the procedure is still a homicide and not suicide. I plan to show that physician assisted suicide is
morally and ethically acceptable, that court cases and laws have proven it to be acceptable, and that it
is better than other alternatives. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The moral and ethical aspects of physician assisted suicide are important ones that shouldn t be
overlooked. In virtually all cases of assisted suicide the pain and suffering experienced by the patient
is unrelievable. Although it is important to go to great lengths to try and ease the suffering through
traditional medicine, often times it s just not enough. When the traditional approach fails sometimes
more drastic approaches are necessary. One such measure that has come to be highly controversial in
this decade is physician assisted suicide. This form of suicide is hotly debated because it isn t just a
mere suicide, but a planned out social contract between two or more people. The basis for my
argument for assisted suicide rests in the values of individual self determination or autonomy and
individual well being. Self determination is central to the issue because a person should be able to
choose how to live their life or in this case, how to die.
Individual self determination is especially important in choices about the specifics of one s death
(Weir 89). Most people, no matter what the nature of their death is, are very concerned with the last
stages of their lives. This concern reflects the person s desire to retain dignity and control during this
last period of life, assisted suicide gives them that control and dignity. As far as individual well being,
most people would

We are astonished as the viewers as we were expecting a conventional fairytale. There is a good use of
toilet humour and it is aimed at children or teenagers. We know right from the start that Shrek is a nice
character as he has a comical impact on the film. The sort of humour makes it different from normal,
conventional fairytales and also the big, ugly ogre would normally be a nasty creature but we know
straight away that this is not the case and he proves to be quite the contrary as the story unfolds.
At the beginning of the film Shrek tries to threaten the characters that he meets, but Donkey, the mice,
the storybook characters and Princess Fiona are not intimidated by him or his appearance. He tries to
make them frightened by reminding them that he s a scary, horrible monster. Although Shrek is an
ogre he is really nice deep down.
When the storybook characters arrive Shrek threatens to throw them all out of his swamp and back
where they came from. There is a close up shot of his mouth, this implicates that Shrek is going to eat
them or kill them and enhances the threat.
Shrek tries to frighten them by threatening them, by shouting at them and the close up shot of his
mouth develops the idea that Shrek is trying to be scary. The storybook characters applaud Shrek.

The Causes Of Famine And Poverty
As a young girl, I recall watching a documentary about a young mother in Africa who cooked mud
cakes under the blinding sun to put some source of calcium into her starving childrens body. The cakes
were made from dried dirt which was dug from the ground. While children in first world nations take
for granted the meals they receive at home and in school, every day millions of men and women
across the world struggle to feed their children a nutritious meal. As children in the richest countries in
the world throw out vast amounts of food and have developed particular appetites for certain foods,
children in developed countries go to bed with an empty stomach. Many parents do not understand the
impact of raising their children with a silver spoon in their mouth and how it can shape them into
selfish adults in the long run. It is embarrassing as an American citizen to know that while our country
is facing obesity, people in other countries are dying from starvation. Most individuals believe that
famine and poverty are merely natural phenomenon based on geography and environment. However,
these individuals fail to realize that these issues are rooted in social relations. In order to eradicate
famine and poverty within society, particular social relations need to be eliminated.
The popular belief of why famines occur and remain to impact many nations around the world is
because of geographic location. However, tragic famines like the Irish potato famine reveal that it is

It is often said that history is written by the victors. Prior to the Paris Peace Conference and the

whether or not Germany should be allowed to retain their overseas protectorates. In the last months of

Many rooms that only occupied 100 people often had 200 plus people working, machines were all
over the place and there were only 1 or 2 staircases, an elevator and one fire escape. All American
industrial workers worked an average of 54 hours a week. The 10 hour, 6 days a week became the
norm for workers. The triangle shirtwaist needs to be a constant reminder so that labor treaties no
longer occur.
By 1938 the Fair Labor Standard Act was probably one of the strongest change makers that were
produced due to the fire by establishing minimum wage, overtime pay, record keeping and youth
employment standards affecting full time and part time workers in the separate region and in federal,
state and local governments. FLSA also set wages at the same rate and paid women for overtime as
well prevented child labor until the age of 16 and older with limited working hours and jobs that
children can work.
By this moment sweatshops were wiped out. Within three years more than 36 state laws had been
passed. Even today, sweatshops have not disappeared in the United States. They keep attracting

The Most Ancient Predatory Class Of Arthropods Essay
Scorpions are the most ancient predatory class of arthropods that lived on earth for millions of years.
There have been more than 1,500 species of scorpions identified worldwide and there are only 25 of
them venomous to humans and other organism. Scorpions venom has played a critical role in their
survival due to its exceptional mixture of component which consists of enzymes, short peptides,
simple amino acids and other chemical secreted from the venom glands. These short peptides (30 80
amino acid) are often identified and known as toxins that the scorpion use by means of self protection
against other organisms. In recent decades, both medical and therapeutic fields turn their attention to
study scorpions as significant laboratory animals due to their physiological characteristics. The
different toxins produced by the venomous scorpions have opened new horizon towards using them to
either design specific drugs and antibodies or find alternative tools in identifying a certain disease
such as cancer. Although these toxins have different modes of actions and targets, the majority of them
affect the nervous system and are classified as neurotoxins because they either alter specific ion
channel binding and movement across cell membrane or affect neurotransmitter transmissions in the
synaptic cleft. In order to explore closely the different features of these neurotoxins, a toxin called
chlorotoxin will be discussed. Chlorotoxin or (CTX) is a type of toxin that is isolated from

Analysis Of Perks Of Being A Wallflower
The Perks of Being a Wallflower , presents Charlie as a scared child who transforms into an adjusted
teenager. The Perks of Being a Wallflower , is a young adult novel published in 1999 by Stephen
Chbosky presented as letters from Charlie to a friend of his not named within the story. Obviously,
Charlie is not a high school freshman given his tidiness though he is a bit awkward and shy in the
company of others. Through the novel, there is a journey of the life of Charlie in the loss of his friend,
his development of new friendships, experiences, sex and drug life. There is a revelation of a disturbed
childhood that present traumatic repercussions in the current life of Charlie. There are various themes
running through the novel with the theme of drug use taking a center stage of influencing the
characters through their journey through childhood to adulthood in the novel. There is no clear
indication of the exact location of Charlie within his letters other than assumptions of his being close
to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. This clue comes from the fact that some of Charlie s friends and his
brother attended Penn State. Also, when he drives to Ohio for Christmas within two hours that is the
probable location for his departure. Another revelation about his location comes through his mention
of the Fort Pitt Tunnel that is in Pittsburgh and this takes care of the discovery of his location. Some of
the prominent themes in the novel are love, sexuality, and family, coming of age,

First Amendment In Schools
As the First Amendment protects the freedom of speech to all Americans, there needs to be some sort
of limit on when students go overboard. There are many different types of speech in which it can
cause disruptions in the classroom when teachers and students state their own opinions that don t
always go with what the others agree with. Things such as the place of where they speak these things
are affective to whether their claims are legal or illegal on any school campus. When students cause a
disruption, even across the street from a school supervised event while promoting illegal drug use like
Joseph Frederick did, it needs to be stopped as soon as possible whether it goes against the freedom of
a student s speech or not. In the court case ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
No matter what people do, everybody will have their own opinions on things and will have their ways
of how they want to communicate it to other people. The different communications involve politics,
problems, religion, talking over the phone, etc. In You ve Been Warned: Speech Under Fire, it says, A
majority of college students believe universities should restrict which kinds of expression are allowed
on campuses (Robby Soave). There is a lot of talk that happens on college campus that offend people
and even students believe that we should be limited on the things that they say. Another issue that has
occurred with college campus freedom of speech is said by Catherine Rampell when a college
professor was speaking of her opinions politically and a student had recorded her in the classroom.
That student had posted it on the internet where it had gone viral and even got onto Fox News where
they referred to the words she told the students to be an assault. This professor received threats and
riots to get her fired which required her to flee her state for safety. When she was teaching her class
and claiming her opinions it was obvious that she was a liberal so according to the Knight Foundation
Survey, it claims that, colleges should be able to restrict campus speech that expresses political views
that are upsetting or

Reflection On The Seamstress
The Seamstress dramatically changed how I viewed the Holocaust because it not only showed me how
intolerable the conditions were, but also how poorly the Jews were treated. Before reading The
Seamstress I did not fully grasp the concept of the Holocaust or the fact that the Jews were scared for
their lives. My knowledge of the tragic event was very vague, and I didn t understand it was so
horrific. Not only were the survivors extremely brave, but they also suffered unbearable scenarios
which I, myself, do not believe I could withstand. Initially, the book showed me that the Jews were
despised, preyed upon, and often felt very unsafe just walking in the street. It s very sad that people
felt unsafe around their homes, and where they grew up. It s also sad that Jews were harrassed in the
street and around their houses. I think you should be able to walk freely without being nervous to be
taunted. The Jews, however, couldn t walk freely, were so often spit on, and called names by the
Germans. Sadly, even the kids were being so mean to the Jews. I believe that hate and racism is
taught, and the German s definitely taught their children to hate the Jews. The children often spit on
the Jews walking in the streets and called them names such as, dirty Jews, filthy pigs, or whores. As if
it wasn t bad enough to suffer around their home, the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
German soldiers felt superior and could shoot any Jew they wanted for any reason, or no reason at all.
Most of the time there was no motive for the killings. The book told us that the soldiers went and
rounded up the people who remained in one village. They were all given shovels and told to dig a long
trench, six feet deep and four feet wide. As soon as the trench was completed everyone was shot. In
fact, there were several instances were Jews were killed for no reason at all. As sad as it was, nothing

In the short story Harrison Bergeron by Kurt Vonnegut, the future government has attempted to convince everyone that everything is equal by giving people handicaps. George wears handicaps, which are earpieces, and weights because he is smart and strong. Hazel is dumb and has no handicaps. It is so easy to become addicted to this type of artwork, especially if you are a perfectionist like me, because of the symmetry and small details involved. Ceramics takes time to make, however the outcome is definitely worth it. Clay, a wheel, and water are basic necessities in making pottery. Going to a pottery shop or, if you are in school, taking a ceramics class can be the easiest ways to get ahold of these materials. Long before then however I had begun to learn from my mom. We would spend our Sunday s cleaning the house listening to latin music and she would teach me how to dance salsa. The Yellow Wallpaper By Charlotte Perkins Gilman Mental Illness and Confinement in the 19th Century: Escaping The Yellow Wallpaper Charlotte Perkins Gilman (1860 1935) whom is most acclaimed for her short story The Yellow Wallpaper (1891) was a women s author that was relatively revolutionary. Gilman makes an appalling picture of captivity and confinement in the short story, outlining a semi personal photo of a young lady experiencing the rest cure treatment by her spouse, whom in addition to being her husband was also her therapist. Gilman misused the rest cure in The Yellow Wallpaper to alarm other ladies of the harming impacts of the treatment. In 1887 after the conception of her little girl, Gilman turned out to be seriously depressed and looked for treatment for anxious weariness by therapist Silas Weir Mitchell. Mitchell s rest cure comprised bed rest, seclusion, overloading, and knead/power massage on her muscles. At the point when Gilman understood that Mitchell s treatment compounded her sorrow, she cleared out both her spouse and specialist. Quite a while later, Gilman composed The Yellow Wallpaper as a response to her doctor Mitchell s recommended rest cure. In her paper Why I Wrote The Yellow Wallpaper? Gilman commented Being naturally moved by this narrow escape, I wrote The Yellow Wallpaper with its embellishments and additions to carry out the ideal (I never had hallucinations or objections to my mural decorations) and sent a duplicate to the doctor who so nearly drove me mad. • 17. Theogony And The Biblical Book Of Genesis, Hesiod And Genesis At first glance, the story of how it all began in Hesiod s Theogony, and in the Biblical book of Genesis reveals certain similarities that I picked up on. Hesiod and Genesis share the same order of events: mankind exists in alongside heavenly beings in utopia where there is just; a woman is introduced into this utopian world; the actions of the woman produces the loss of before said utopia. This pattern is used by both works of literature to better explain the presence of problems such as chaos and turmoil in human existence, and both Hesiod and Genesis credit the first woman with these problems. (Genesis 3.16) But despite these similarities, Eve and Pandora are characteristically different. Unlike Pandora, Eve is not naturally evil. She was created from one of Adams ribs, making Eve of the same material and nature as her husband. Pandora, conversely, is basically different from man. I figured this because Hesiod does not give a significant story of how man came to be in these sections, but Pandora s attributes from the gods, including both her beauty and her deceitfulness, marks her as a separate individual. However, Eve is meant to be a companion for Adam, to say that Pandora was a gift is plainly ironic. This inconsistency is at the difference between the women. Pandora is a punishment for man. Theogony exposes this, by calling her evil for man or through the instance with the jar, which is an indicator of her deceitful nature. Neither work specifies if Pandora actually undergoes suffering alongside man. Eve, however, is a victim of her actions as much as Adam is, and these two suffer together, if not wholly in the same way. Despite their inherent differences, I do believe they are similar in how they are portrayed as the less significant sex. Despite Eve being created from Adam, she was not created of an entirely new framework such as Adam, as if she was not important enough to do so. Both Pandora and Eve were created secondly both ... Most ancient civilizations arose from a fertile farming location and predictable harvest. When basic needs have been provided for the specialization of labor can provide a culture a chance at endless artistic and technological advances. An analysis of the characteristics of civilization demonstrates common threads which connect the ancient societies of Sumeria, Egypt, and the Indus River Valley. Many of these connections can be found within each civilization s religion, government, location, language, trade, and technology. The deepest connection that binds Sumeria, Egypt, and the Indus River Valley together is their location on a prominent river. Rivers provide rich fertile topsoil and access to freshwater, which together are a recipe for life. Without these pockets of agricultural paradise these civilizations may not have been formed at all. Robotic surgery is relatively new to the medical industry and it is often underrated. Robotic surgery offers greater efficiency, and utility than that provided through traditional surgical methods. The most traditional and common way of performing surgery is laparoscopically. This means the surgery is performed while looking through a small, camera inserted into the patient s body. Though this technique is minimally invasive, it poses disadvantages, which can be overcome with the use of robotics in surgery. Robotic surgery is new compared to cell phones and laptops, however the surgical practice has been around since the 1980 s. The first recorded use of robotics in surgery was in 1985, when the PUMA 560 robotic arm was used in a brain surgery (neurosurgical biopsy). This surgery laid the foundation for a plethora of groundbreaking operations and a brand new scientific branch pursued into the twenty first century. In 1998, after several years of development and advancements, Ralph Damiano Jr. performed robotically assisted heart bypass surgery (Ditlea 2). This surgery is regarded as one of the most difficult operations a surgeon can perform. The use of robotics in surgery remained throughout the remainder of the twentieth century and ... Canadian Constitution Essay The Canadian Constitution Regarded as the fundamental law of the land, a Constitution is important because it sets forth the policy declaration and principles of a sovereign state. Aside from that, it accords the government fundamental powers so that the latter is able to serve and protect the people in the best possible way. Without the Constitution, a community will fall into anarchy. For the purposes of this paper, the history of the promulgation of the Canadian Constitution will be discussed. To make it simple, the Constitution creates the systems of government of a certain state. The Government of Canada (n.d.). mentioned that Canada has three branches of the government: the executive, the legislative, and the judiciary. In Canada, the Queen exercises the executive power. The legislative branch is known as the parliament. The parliament is comprised of the Senate and the House of Commons (Government of Canada, n.d.). This is where bills are passed and subsequently become laws. The judiciary is comprised of judges. They are burdened with the responsibility of interpreting the law and making sure that its application conforms to what is set forth in the Constitution. The fundamental powers granted by the Constitution to the government enable the latter to intervene and regulate people s liberty and rights. However, this intervention is not absolute because the Constitution also provides for its limits. There is a need to authorize the government and limit it at the same time so that its authority and the liberty and exercise of rights of the citizens are well balanced. Without such balance, anarchy will result. As such, the existence of a Constitution is a necessity for a government to function properly and for the citizens to live ... • 24. Essay about Ideologies, Narrative, Stereotypes and Discourses According to French sociologist Pierre Bourdieu, a habitus is referring to a person s way of thinking, acting, and behaving. A habitus is a structure that helps a person comprehend and deal with society. It can be simply seen as a merger of society and the individual. (Wysocka, Paulina, 2013). Habitus is both a structured structure the effect of the actions of, and our interactions with, others and a structuring structure it suggests and constrains our future actions (Bourdieu, 1992). Fitzgerald presents Gatsby and Daisy s reunion as initially awkward, through having their conversations be stilled and abstruse, with both characters whereby behaving in an embarrassed and vague manner. Furthermore, Fitzgerald also represents their initially awkward reunion through Nick, of who bares witness to their reconciliation and of who, also, attempts to dissolve the tension between the pair. Gatsby s strong and almost sudden reaction to Daisy speaking, proposes that Fitzgerald is attempting to use emotive language, as to show Gatsby s urgency to resume some form of bond with Daisy. The use of Nick describing that Gatsby had Distraught eyes , suggests that Fitzgerald is trying to perpetuate that Gatsby is nervous and scared to be within Daisy s presence, after so long. The use of prenotification in this text, suggests that Fitzgerald is trying to foreshadow future circumstances between the pair, but also, suggests that Gatsby is worried about their disconnected relationship. Fitzgerald also uses emotive language within this text, with using Distraught , as to preserve the fact that Gatsby is anxious and scared. This also perpetuates the sense of awkwardness between the pair, as Gatsby is seen as being Distraught and positioning himself in a frigid manner, head leaned so far back leaning against the mantelpiece , and Daisy being frightened but graceful , suggests that the pair are having comparatively similar thoughts on the situation. • 27. Reflection Of The Piano For this concert report, I am going to be focusing on the last piece of the concert, Beethoven s Symphony no. 5 in C Minor, op. 67. This piece was written in the classical period. I am choosing this piece to focus on because when I heard it, I felt that I was being told a story of a war and specifically of a single soldier and his experience. Beethoven s Symphony no. 5 in C Minor, op. 67 has 4 movements throughout the piece. The first movement is Allegro con brio, the second Andante con moto, and the third and fourth are both Allegro. The first movement, Allegro con Brio, starts the story off in a battle focusing on a single soldier and his fight. The tempo was quite fast throughout the movement making the idea of a battle taking place set in. The program has already stated that the piece was in C Minor, but you can tell that it is by the sense of conflict and pain that is heard throughout the piece. This first movement has a great variation of dynamics as well. There are long sections of fortissimo that, to me, sound like the intense fighting, and then there are sections of piano and mezzo piano that, to me, sound like lulls in the scene where the soldier notices something very sad right before he is whisked back into the fight. This sense of a fight scene is also noted with the technical styling of the movement. During the intense fights the melody is staccato and accented, and during the points that the soldier can take a breath and look around at the horror unfolding ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Kerosene contamination affected soil physicochemical properties such as pH, total phosphorus and microbial biomass which are important indicators for assessing soil quality, fertility and productivity. Findings show that the soil used was a loamy soil and is know to belong to the alfisol series of the USDA soil taxonomic system of classification (Ibia et al., 2002). The study shows that the higher kerosene contamination levels, significantly delayed emergence and inhibited the germination of some seeds. The poor emergence obtained at higher pollution levels of the oil treatment can be attributed to poor aeration. In addition, the inhibition of germination may be due to the absorption of the oil by the seeds, which caused them to be swollen ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The decrease in the relative growth rate of Zea Mays in this study due to kerosene oil treatment of soil shows that the oil interrupted the growth of the plant. According to Kathirvelan and Kalaiselvan (2007) the leaf surface area determines in large part the amount of carbon gained through photosynthesis and the amount of water lost through transpiration and ultimately the crop yield. Reduction in the leaf and plant height as was observed in this study implies that there would be low photosynthetic efficiency of the plant as much of the solar energy emitted by the sun would not be absorbed by plant for photosynthesis. This definitely leads to low yield of the plant with subsequent low availability of food and poor economy due to low sales of such plant s products. Since the relative growth rate measures the efficiency of seedling (Brand, 1991), the reduction in the relative growth rate of Zea mays reported in this study imply that kerosene oil reduces the efficiency of the plant. This study also shows that Zea mays did better in the polluted soil left for six months than in the polluted soil left for three months and than the soil polluted and immediately planted on. This confirms that with time, natural biodegradation occur and the kerosene polluted environment has ability to purify itself, if and only if the source of pollutant is not intermittent. Times do get hard and certain circumstances hurt more than others, but we are all called to forgive one another at the end of the day. • 31. Economics Of The Gold Standard Debate Economics of Globalization September 18, 2015 Sydnee Lyman The Gold Standard Debate Beginning in 1870, each nation converted their national currencies to their relative worth in gold. This was called the Gold Standard and it has brought up many arguments between politicians, businessmen, and organizations with prominent economists on whether or not to return to it. Although there are multiple reasons why America should not return, there are also many resurfaced ideas that would make it very profitable for us to do so. The United States abandoned the gold standard to finance WWI. Shortly after the war was the beginning of the Great Depression. The Gold Standard constrained governments from helping the financial system and the economy during this time. The reason we abandoned the Gold Standard was because of the crisis our country and many others were in. The Gold Standard began in 1870 in Britain, which ironically was the first country to go off of it in 1931. The United Stated adopted this policy in 1913, this guaranteed the amount of paper money you had could be returned to the government for the amount it is worth in gold. This made paper money actually worth something to citizens living in nations where they were unsure of the value. When gold deposits were mined, the value of currency dropped. In America, printing money was the cause of hyperinflation. During WWI, many countries abandoned the Gold Standard to finance the war then returned shortly after. Then in 1929, ... Dr. Kevorkian, an advocate and practitioner of medically assisted suicides, has many opponents on the issue. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The moral and ethical aspects of physician assisted suicide are important ones that shouldn t be overlooked. In virtually all cases of assisted suicide the pain and suffering experienced by the patient is unrelievable. Although it is important to go to great lengths to try and ease the suffering through traditional medicine, often times it s just not enough. When the traditional approach fails sometimes more drastic approaches are necessary. One such measure that has come to be highly controversial in this decade is physician assisted suicide. This form of suicide is hotly debated because it isn t just a mere suicide, but a planned out social contract between two or more people. The basis for my argument for assisted suicide rests in the values of individual self determination or autonomy and individual well being. Self determination is central to the issue because a person should be able to choose how to live their life or in this case, how to die. Individual self determination is especially important in choices about the specifics of one s death (Weir 89). Most people, no matter what the nature of their death is, are very concerned with the last stages of their lives. This concern reflects the person s desire to retain dignity and control during this last period of life, assisted suicide gives them that control and dignity. All died due to inadequate safety precautions and lack of fire escapes. This research paper will examine how this tragic fire changed the working labor laws as well as work safety and woman s rights. The Triangle factory, owned by Max Blanck and Isaac Harris, was located in the Asch Building, on the corner of Greene Street and Washington Place, in Manhattan. There were four elevators with access to the factory floors, but at the time only one was fully operational ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Many rooms that only occupied 100 people often had 200 plus people working, machines were all over the place and there were only 1 or 2 staircases, an elevator and one fire escape. All American industrial workers worked an average of 54 hours a week. The 10 hour, 6 days a week became the norm for workers. The triangle shirtwaist needs to be a constant reminder so that labor treaties no longer occur. By 1938 the Fair Labor Standard Act was probably one of the strongest change makers that were produced due to the fire by establishing minimum wage, overtime pay, record keeping and youth employment standards affecting full time and part time workers in the separate region and in federal, state and local governments. FLSA also set wages at the same rate and paid women for overtime as well prevented child labor until the age of 16 and older with limited working hours and jobs that children can work. By this moment sweatshops were wiped out. Within three years more than 36 state laws had been passed. Even today, sweatshops have not disappeared in the United States. They keep attracting workers today in desperate need of employment and undocumented immigrants, who may be anxious to avoid involvement with governmental agencies. Recent studies conducted by the U.S. Department of Labor found that 63% of New York garment factories violate minimum wage and overtime ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 41. The Most Ancient Predatory Class Of Arthropods Essay Scorpions are the most ancient predatory class of arthropods that lived on earth for millions of years. There have been more than 1,500 species of scorpions identified worldwide and there are only 25 of them venomous to humans and other organism. Scorpions venom has played a critical role in their survival due to its exceptional mixture of component which consists of enzymes, short peptides, simple amino acids and other chemical secreted from the venom glands. These short peptides (30 80 amino acid) are often identified and known as toxins that the scorpion use by means of self protection against other organisms. In recent decades, both medical and therapeutic fields turn their attention to study scorpions as significant laboratory animals due to their physiological characteristics. The different toxins produced by the venomous scorpions have opened new horizon towards using them to either design specific drugs and antibodies or find alternative tools in identifying a certain disease such as cancer. Although these toxins have different modes of actions and targets, the majority of them affect the nervous system and are classified as neurotoxins because they either alter specific ion channel binding and movement across cell membrane or affect neurotransmitter transmissions in the synaptic cleft. In order to explore closely the different features of these neurotoxins, a toxin called chlorotoxin will be discussed. Chlorotoxin or (CTX) is a type of toxin that is isolated from ... • 45. First Amendment In Schools As the First Amendment protects the freedom of speech to all Americans, there needs to be some sort of limit on when students go overboard. There are many different types of speech in which it can cause disruptions in the classroom when teachers and students state their own opinions that don t always go with what the others agree with. Things such as the place of where they speak these things are affective to whether their claims are legal or illegal on any school campus. When students cause a disruption, even across the street from a school supervised event while promoting illegal drug use like Joseph Frederick did, it needs to be stopped as soon as possible whether it goes against the freedom of a student s speech or not. The different communications involve politics, problems, religion, talking over the phone, etc. In You ve Been Warned: Speech Under Fire, it says, A majority of college students believe universities should restrict which kinds of expression are allowed on campuses (Robby Soave). There is a lot of talk that happens on college campus that offend people and even students believe that we should be limited on the things that they say. Another issue that has occurred with college campus freedom of speech is said by Catherine Rampell when a college professor was speaking of her opinions politically and a student had recorded her in the classroom. That student had posted it on the internet where it had gone viral and even got onto Fox News where they referred to the words she told the students to be an assault. This professor received threats and riots to get her fired which required her to flee her state for safety. When she was teaching her class and claiming her opinions it was obvious that she was a liberal so according to the Knight Foundation Survey, it claims that, colleges should be able to restrict campus speech that expresses political views that are upsetting or ... • 48. Reflection On The Seamstress The Seamstress dramatically changed how I viewed the Holocaust because it not only showed me how intolerable the conditions were, but also how poorly the Jews were treated. Before reading The Seamstress I did not fully grasp the concept of the Holocaust or the fact that the Jews were scared for their lives. My knowledge of the tragic event was very vague, and I didn t understand it was so horrific. Not only were the survivors extremely brave, but they also suffered unbearable scenarios which I, myself, do not believe I could withstand. Initially, the book showed me that the Jews were despised, preyed upon, and often felt very unsafe just walking in the street. It s very sad that people felt unsafe around their homes, and where they grew up. It s also sad that Jews were harrassed in the street and around their houses. I think you should be able to walk freely without being nervous to be taunted. The Jews, however, couldn t walk freely, were so often spit on, and called names by the Germans. Sadly, even the kids were being so mean to the Jews. I believe that hate and racism is taught, and the German s definitely taught their children to hate the Jews. The children often spit on the Jews walking in the streets and called them names such as, dirty Jews, filthy pigs, or whores. As if it wasn t bad enough to suffer around their home, the ...
