Amp Meeting Reflection
Today I went to my first AMP meeting. It was completely different than I expected, but I think that
will turn out to be a good thing. In the beginning I thought this was a program for youth to attend
voluntarily, and I thought most of the attendees would be from families with foster or kinship care. I
was wrong, as most of the attendees were from group homes around Ames and they were there as part
of their recovery process. This shocked me a little but in just the short amount of time I spent with
them I grew to really like them. I think that often youth in group homes are stigmatized and thought of
as bad kids, when in reality most of them just haven t had the support they need or grew up in poor
environments that lead them to where they are.

Social Responsibility in the development of Alberta s Oil...
Introduction:
The oil sands development in northern Alberta has become a hot bed for debate between producers
and environmental groups. With worldwide water crisis rapidly developing the use of water in the
development Alberta s oil sands begs the question, are the oil sands in northern Alberta being
developed with social responsibility in mind? Social responsibility is a balance companies must
maintain between people, the planet and profit. Propaganda produced by environmental agencies and
oil companies must be examined for biases; environmentalists seem to blame all of Canada s
environmental ailments on evil oil companies (Thompson, 2012).
Stakeholders Affected: With so many people involved with the development of Alberta s oil ... Show

Government has been working closely with industry for years, which is also a key factor in developing
the oil sands in a socially responsible way. Most major oil companies are involved with initiatives like
Water for Life Strategy, Alberta Water Council and Petroleum Technology Alliance Canada (CAPP,
2012). Alberta s oil sands are being developed with social responsibility in mind.
Dr. Lorne Taylor (2012, p. 3), the chair of the Alberta Water Research Institute, states, Organizations
like Greenpeace and the Sierra Club are convincing Canadians and the world that Alberta s oil sands
are a scourge on the environment . Environmental groups and the media are unfortunately shedding a
poor light on the development of the oil sands in northern Alberta. Bob Weinhold (2011, pg. 119), a
veteran environmental journalist, states the Royal Society of Canada (RSC) panel found no evidence
that people are currently being harmed by oil sands activity . Both the environmentalist side and the
oil sands producer s side must be evaluated with an objective mind as each contains truths as well as
embellishments. Taylor (2009, pg. 2) argues that a major misconception is the province, people and
industry of Alberta

Hmong Culture Essay
Hmong Cultural Interactions with Healthcare Provider Hmong cultural interaction with healthcare

migrations in the last 100 years. The most recent displacement caused by the Vietnam war when the
Hmong where once again displaced to Thailand. In the late 1990 s the Hmong had a large migration,
over 100,000 Hmong resettled to the United States primarily the Great Lakes area, North Carolina and
California. The Hmong are a clan based, patriarchic culture. Within the clans there is much diversity,
with each clan having its own group identity and traditions. The language has a long oral history and
very new, 1095 s, written form. The family structure consists of multiple generations in one
household, with the elder male being the main dissension maker. The nurse must be familiar with
generalities of the Hmong culture and be able to ask patients and their families of the cultural beliefs
and decision making. In learning about the Hmong culture, as well as others, a nurse providing care
would be more likely to build trust and advocating for the patient as well as creating a healing
environment.

Mary Bethune The Road To Education
The Road to Education Mary Bethune once said, The drums of Africa still beat in my heart. They will
not let me rest while there is a single negro boy or girl without a chance to prove his worth. On July
10, 1875 in South Carolina an inspiration was born upon us. Out of the 17 siblings, she was the 15th.
Mary s parents were former slaves so she was raised in poverty. She was the first of her family to

Safe Injection Site in Vancouver Eastside Essay
The Effect of Safe Injection Sites in Vancouver, British Columbia A safe injection site (SIS) has been
placed in Vancouver s Downtown Eastside where drug use is a challenging problem. The program is a
vital piece of the cities known harm reduction approach to its serious problems with homelessness,
drugs, crime and AIDS. Canada has drastically shifted its method. Going from punishing drug users to
establishing the plan of harm reduction. Since 2003 when the supervised SIS opened, it has presented
a safe health focused center where drug users have access to inject illegal drugs using sterile
equipment in a clean environment under the supervision of medically trained professionals. Although
there are some serious concerns about the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Results of safe injection site studies have shown that an expansion may have a greater impact. This
may reduce the chance of dangerous encounters between users of these safe injection sites and the
public. Children not even out of elementary school, were getting involved in the drug scene. These
runaways were a concern to the residents, who witnessed overdoses in the past decade. Over 2,000
lives were lost due to the Downtowns East side s drug fuelled spiral (MacQueen et al., 2003).
Persisting the safe injection site can help in lowering risk behaviors by the drug users of SIS s and
community concerns that are related to public injection of drugs (McKnight et al,. 2007). Overall, SIS
s may have the ability to change the drug users and transform them into potential productive members
of society.
Effect of Insite on Future Generations
It is suggested that since Insite was created, it has been sending the wrong message to the youth of
Vancouver stating that injection drug use is acceptable and has support. This approach is unlikely and
naïve. There is evidence shown that the total number of drug users in cities with SIS s has decreased.
The introduction of SISs is being understood as that drug use is right. Rather than it is limited, self
contained, and is a responsible harm reduction facility that responds to urgent health risks. Harm
reduction is defined as an ideology viewing drug use as

The Organizational Simulation Will Look Into The Three...

Organizational simulation will look into the three theories of change management. Using the three
theories, the paper will analyse any cross cultural issues that come with change. The paper will look at
three internal and external drivers that have propelled change in the organization. It will also look into
any factors that the head will need to look at in order to ensure change in the organization. Resistance
is one of the aftermaths of implementing change. The paper will look at what types of resistance that

3. Kotter s eight Step Change model: this particular model was created by John Kotter, a professor at
Harvard University. This model had eight steps (Bourda, 2014).
These three theories will be important in analysing the organizational simulation of Synergic Solutions
Inc. Synergic solution Inc. is a multimillion company that deals with reselling assembled computers.
In this company, most of the employees have basic computer skills in assembling and troubleshooting
computers. There are a small number however, who are specialists in the field. Most of the employees
work in the sales and services departments.
The CEO of this company began to take steps into making the company better. Both external and
internal driving forces drove this change. The definition of these two terms needs to be looked at in
order to understand what they were. External factors are the factors that occur outside the scope of the
company or organization, for example, the economy. These factors are outside the influence of the
company (Lindbald, 2014). On the other hand, internal factors are factors that occur within the scope
of the organization and are within the control of the company.
INTERNAL FACTORS
In this company, the CEO, Harold Redd, was driven to implement some change because the
organization consisted of workers who only had basic skills in computer assembling and

The Day Of The World War I
On November 11, 1918 the war to end all wars came to an end with a ceasefire between the allied
nations and Germany. One year later, the anniversary of this official end to World War I was marked to
be an honorary day, Armistice Day, for all military personnel who had died defending the United
States of America. Armistice Day was the first national recognition and important step towards the
care and honor of those who had served protecting the country. Years later in 1938, Congress passed
the 11th of November as a legal holiday; in 1954, the holiday was renamed Veterans Day to include an
honoring to all military personnel and committees ( Office of Public Affairs ). Veterans Day was a

They are the ones who risked their lives, their careers, and their families so that others could
experience what it truly means to be an American. Military men used to be the talk of the town,
everyone wanted to know them and claim them in their lives, but nowadays people want to discard the
disgruntled figures that come back from the hardships of war. The men and affects of war on them did
not change, people s tolerance for them did. No one wants to deal the mentally unstable or disabled
used to be war heroes. They want the bright and shining young men who stood for their country, but
these two types of men are the same. The old and forgotten used to be the bright and shining, and they
should be treated as such. They deserve the valor and honor that surrounded them when they shipped
off to still be there when they finally come home.
Caring for the Veteran s when they come home begins with the military itself; these are there men
coming home and it needs to stay as such. I believe in a motto of once a soldier, always a soldier, and
that the military is something that should always be there for its members. When injured or outdated
servicemen come home from their final assignment, they receive honorable discharge. There should
be no discharge however; there should only be retirement from the field. Let these men always have a

Comparing Gilgamesh And The Hero s Journey
While reading the first half of Gilgamesh, I noticed many similarities to the plot lines of later
mythological and fantasy works. In most of these heroic tales they loosely or strictly follow a
schematic called the Hero s Journey. The Hero s Journey consists of a hero, obviously, who is set apart
from his/her peers at birth usually caused by the gods and/or goddesses. For example, Gilgamesh is
born two thirds god and one third man, automatically making him different than his people. Then said
hero receives a call to adventure, otherworldly help, they typically face many challenges and
temptations along the way, and commonly beat death before transforming and returning home.
Gilgamesh s call to adventure is merely him wanting to make a name

Love in the Time of Cholera
Love Conquers All
There are many themes that can be identified throughout the book, Love in the Time of Cholera. Love,
as stated in the title, is one of the most important themes within the book. Love is channeled through
all of the characters such as; Fermina Daza and Dr. Urbino, Florentino and all of his many affairs with
different women, Dr. Urbino and his affair with Barbara Lynch, and most importantly the most
powerful love throughout the book is the love between Florentino Ariza and Fermina Daza.

Scribes (Garcia Marquez 171). He eventually became swamped with letters where he wrote only about
Fermina Daza without his clients ever knowing his sole purpose to writing the letters and having so
much emotion behind it.
The older Florentino gets the more he starts to realize that he is wasting his life. In the book it says,
But that night he saw for the first time in a conscious way how Fermina Daza s life was passing and
how his was passing, while he did nothing more than wait (Garcia Marquez 199). This is the first time
in the novel that he realizes he is wasting his time. Florentino s life revolved around Fermina and due
to his love for her whenever he was nostalgic his memories goes to her, but whenever she is nostalgic
her memories do not go to him.
Once Dr. Urbino dies Fermina is heartbroken but eventually realizes that her most of her life was
defined by being his wife and after he is dead she starts to gain some independence. In her final years
she will learn to be her own person and become independent. In the book she portrays this when it

Friction Stir Welding And Artificial Neural Networks
1. INTRODUCTION 1.1 BACKGROUND Friction stir welding ( FSW) and Artificial neural
networks (ANN) are two well known approaches in their respective field. FSW is a well known
method in material sciences and ANN in computer science. The aim is to combine these two
approaches to get some important results. Friction stir welding (FSW) is a novel method of joining
materials in solid state. It was invented by the Welding Institute (TWI) in 1991. It was initially applied
for joining aluminium and later expanded its domain for joining similar and dissimilar alloys.
Basically in FSW a specially designed rotating cylindrical tool that comprises of shoulder and pin is
used. The pin of the rotating tool is plunged into the sheet material and the shoulder comes into
contact with the surface of sheet, and then traverses in the desired direction. The contact between the
rotating tool and the sheet generate heat which softens the material below the melting point and with
the stirring caused by the pin, the material within the processed zone undergoes intense plastic
deformation yielding a dynamically recrystallized fine grain microstructure. Artificial Neural
Networks (ANN) is a network of simple processing elements (neurons) which exhibits complex
behavior, determined by the connections between the processing elements and element parameter.
Each neuron is connected to other neurons by means of directed communication links, each with an
associated weight. The weight represents

Route 66 History
Winding through Illinois, from Chicago to East St. Louis, is historic Route 66. The highway was
founded in 1926, following the ideas of Cyrus Avery and John Woodruff. Both believed Route 66
would bring prosperity to the nation, along with Cyrus Avery s need for an easier way to distribute oil
for his company. The highway prospered, along with those who lived along it. When The National
Highway Act of 1956 passed, Route 66 began to steadily decline before finally being decommissioned
in 1985. Even after its end, Route 66 continues to provide a look into the past as America s Main

greater amounts in years three through five than in years one and two.

Adding the New Kosovo Power Plant to the commercial loan levels of Kosovo s banking institutions
would increase loan levels from €2.08 billion to €3.0 billion, pushing the loan to deposit ratio over
100 percent. This one transaction would increase macroeconomic risk for the country. First, it would
concentrate risk in an economy that is small and is already struggling with risk diversification.
Second, it would exceed the standard set by independent bank examiners to maintain an 80 percent
loan to deposit ratio. Third, it would add to political tensions in the country on a range of issues
related to domestic and foreign banking. Fourth, it is likely to place credit constraints on other sectors
at a time when the private economy is vulnerable; according to the World Bank, the current growth
model for private development in Kosovo is already unsustainable.
The likely scenarios put forth thus far regarding the structure of the loan, including an interest rate
subsidy from a consortium of public and private lenders, would place long term pressure on Kosovo s

nonfiction books that came out during the year may not have come from the company, but business
remained strong. This is due to the million of books already in the market, including phenomenal

Just because B N is primarily a merchandising company wherein cost of goods sold is a vital
expenditure, the Gross Profit Margin rate is a significant ratio as this helps in evaluating inventory
control measures. Moreover, gross profit is the very thing that recovers operating expenses. B N
maintains the rate at 30% with slight differences through the comparative years. The year 2004 figure
of 30.51% is consistent with the company s overall improvement.
The rate used to evaluate the efficiency of assets to generate income is called the Rate Earned on
Average Assets, or Return on Investment (ROI). There was a slight decrease in 2004 from 2003,
posing the figures 4.03% and 4.46%, respectively. Though it cannot be concluded in an instant that the
company is inefficient in asset utilization, especially when the asset turnover rate is considered in the
evaluation. As previously stated, income from discontinued operations which forms part of the net
income affects the rate. Rate Earned on Average Equity likewise showed such a decrease, 13.38% in
2003 to 11.91% in 2004, or a difference of 1.47%. Investors need not panic for this immaterial
reduction although it pays to investigate further, especially that the Retained Earnings balance
decreased by US$138M or 26.44% from 2003 to 2004.
For the creditors, Capital Structure Analysis is employed in order to evaluate the overall capability of
the company to pay its debt.

The Treaty Of Paris And Germany Essay
It was 1945 when the treaty to officially end the second world war was signed but that was just the
beginning. Europe was still in ruin. Even though Adolf Hitler was dead his army could still be felt
across the continent. It was now time to rebuilt. This wasn t just the rebuilding of cities and lives, it
was the rebuilding of order. Hitler had tipped the delicate scale of order and balance and the scale had
to be fixed. This fix came in the form of the Treaty of Paris (1951) which was also known as the
European Coal and Steel Community (ECSC) Treaty. The original purpose of this treaty wasn t to
unify Europe but in a few years that was its effect.
The ECSC Treaty s original purpose was to improve the economies that suffered during the war. This
idea was born from the thinking that France and Germany s vast steel and coal resources could be
used to help other countries. France and Germany agreed to participate because through this treaty
they believe they could help start the healing process that Europe so desperately needed. There was
also hope that European integration would stem from this treaty. The founding countries of this
community were France, West Germany, Italy, Luxembourg and the Netherlands. It was the foreign
minister of France that proposed common high authority so other European countries could participate
if they wished. Changes were made and the treaty was signed July 23, 1952. This treaty had a validity
period of 50 years which meant it expired on July

Margaret Mead Warfare
In Margaret Mead s Warfare: An Invention Not a Biological Necessity we see her ideas surrounding
the relationship between biological and cultural influences on an aspect of life and society. Mead s
ideas play off of some of the thoughts mentioned in Ruth Benedict s The Individual and the Pattern of
Culture . Benedict mentions how there ...is always a give and take, (114) that is between culture and
the individual. Which can be related to Mead s mention of how war or fighting is dependant on a
culture s need for that kind of outlet. Because Mead was a student of Benedict s when she was a
professor at Columbia University(112) it becomes evident how some of the similarities in their ideas
had developed.
Although Mead s essay is quite specific to the concept of warfare, it is possible to dissect the essay
and find the underlying ideas she has regarding culture. Mead states that A people can use only the
forms it has, (503) meaning that a group or individual only uses the ideas or ways of life that have

Dulce Et Decorum Est Figurative Language
Wilfred Owen s Dulce et Decorum Est (1917) is one of the most famous poems to appear from the
ranks of the soldier poets who fought during the WWI. He reacts to the war, showing that reality is
contaminated and dishonored, changing conventional poetic techniques into something that appears to
be rather ordinary on the outside. In the poem, Owen shows the critical versions of reality by using
figurative language, imagery, and irony.
First of all, the author uses simile, which is one form of figurative languages, to support the idea of
exhaust and pain during the war which contradicts the belief that it is sweet and honorable to die for
your country. Bent double, like old beggars under sacks, knock kneed, coughing like hags, we cursed
through sludge. (Owen, 1917, stanza 1, line 1 2) From this quote, it is able to infer that participating
war is wearing since the soldiers walk countless miles, which Owen himself compares the them as
beggars and hags. But someone still was yelling out and stumbling. And flound ring like a man in fire
or lime. (Owen, 1917, stanza 2, line 3 4) This quote describes the soldier that could not wear ... Show

My friend, you would not tell with such high zest. To children ardent for some desperate glory (Owen
1917, stanza 4, line 9 10) This quote is ironic because the children want glory assuming that war is
something that lets them earn a great deal of honor. However, Owen is stating that people should not
tell them that war is glorious. The old Lie: Dulce et decorum est Pro patria mori. (Owen 1917, stanza
4, line 11 12) This is the true reality that Owen wanted to reveal. He is stating that it is not sweet and
admirable to die for their country. This also is sarcastic what people believed was like to die in a war
is denied by the author s statement. Consequently, reality is different from what had been expected
from Owen s use of irony in the

Argumentative Essay On Nuclear Energy
Nuclear energy has been used since 1895 to create weapons that could destroy men by the millions.
Scientists later transformed this destructive weapon into a new form of usable, renewable energy.
Nuclear energy is energy created by harnessing the energy produced by the nuclear reactions that take
place inside the nucleus of the Uranium Isotope 235, ( Nuclear Energy ). Nuclear energy is one
attempt to decrease the rate at which nonrenewable fossil fuels are being consumed. Some believe
nuclear energy to be an environmentally friendly and self sustaining way to produce energy; however,
there are a countless number of social and economically risks to consider; ultimately, the detrimental
effects power plant leaks and explosions have on the human body, the cost it takes to produce the
plants, and the production of nuclear waste, should be enough to persuade one to turn away from using
nuclear energy as a source of power.
The fear of a nuclear power plants is reasonable, considering there were thirty three accidents between
the 1950 s and early 2000 s, (McInnes, Colin). Multiple incidents jeopardized the health of employees
and near by citizens. Six of these incidents happened in the United States, five in Japan, and three in
the United Kingdom and Russia. Thirty five liters of highly enriched Uranium solution leaked during
transfer, in the United Kingdom; more than 100 workers were exposed to one hundred and fifty
millirems of radiation a day in Japan; reactors in

Somnambulism
Charles Brockeden Brown introduces a short thriller story that grasp the attention of the readers not
pursuing the idea of who the killer was but rather questioning the state of mentality of the protagonist.
Throughout the short story, Brown manages to invent a suspenseful tone that intrigues the reader
through the idea of psychoanalysis and the constant questioning of Althorpe character as a whole. In
the short story that explains itself, Somnambulism is described to correlate sleepwalking and the
constant psychological battle the protagonist is constantly facing throughout the story. Browns
intentions were made quite clear early in the short story, he wanted readers to know immediately what
to focus on and completely ignore. Completely ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Althorpe dreams he believes he is protecting Constnaie from an assassin set out to kill her and
defends her by killing it. The way he describes it would only lead the readers to the conclusion that he
actually commited the murder. I was summoned, methought, to defend this lady from the attacks of an
assassin. My ideas were full of confusion and inaccuracy. All that I can recollect is, that my efforts had
been unsuccessful to avert the stroke of the murderer. This, however, was not accomplished without
drawing on his head a bloody retribution. I imagined myself engaged, for a long time, in pursuit of the
guilty, and, at last, to have detected him in an artful disguise. I did not employ the usual preliminaries
which honour prescribes, but, stimulated by rage, attacked him with a pistol, and terminated his career
by a mortal wound. (Brown Pg 7) Viewing his dream from a psych analysis standpoint, you can
understand that Althorpe is trying to interpret him killing Constanie Davis in a more fictional event for
him to believe. However, when he wakes up he seems to deflect the dream and make it into just a
dream. This manipulation inside his head lets the reader assume the psychological reasoning to his
sleep walking throughout his

How International Financial Reporting Standards Affect The...
How would International Financial Reporting Standards affect the quality of Canadian accounting
information?
INTRODUCTION
Globalization has a great impact on today s economy. The differences of accounting regulations and
practices in various countries have become a noteworthy obstacle to globalization and economic
development. International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) mitigates global business barriers.
In order to adapt to the increasingly global business environment, public companies in Canada will
move to IFRS by 2011. This movement will have a significant influence on Canadian business such as
capital markets, financial statement preparers, the accounting profession, and even accounting
students. Investors are eager to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

1. COMPARABILITY
1.1 Definition of comparability
According to Canadian GAAP, the definition of comparability is Financial information measured and
reported in a similar manner among different companies. Comparability allows analysts to identify
real economic similarities and differences among companies, because those differences and
similarities are not obscured by changes in accounting methods or disclosure practices.
In September 2007, the IASB issued a revised IAS 1 Presentation of Financial Statements , in which
the definition of comparability was expanded to include consistency with regard of the definition of
Canadian GAAP. The definition of comparability in IAS 1 is Users need to be able to identify
differences between the accounting policies for like transactions and other events used by the same
entity from period to period and by different entities. In this paper, we focus on the real economic
similarities and differences among companies with regard to comparability.
1.2 The implementation of fair value
IAS16 requires property, plant and equipment to be reported at fair market value, and that estimates of
useful life, residual value, and the method of depreciation be reviewed every annual report period
instead of periodically under CICA Handbook Section 3061. Under IAS16, users can compare the

Theme Of Corruption In Lord Of The Flies
In the novel, Lord of the Flies, by William Golding, a man is born innocent and is corrupted by
society. Golding illustrates innocence and corruption with ethical, and emotional appeals based on
human nature. Group influence, a distracted society, and group influence can corrupt a man. With that
said, innocence is only temporary.
Ordinarily, individuals are born innocent, although man signify corruption by society through group
influence. For example, a text in a Newsela article reads I ransacked. I pillaged. I took people s things
by force. ( In a war, children without a childhood 1) For instance, in Lord of the Flies, the littluns
chanted, Kill the beast! Cut its throat! Spill the blood! (Golding 52) You all already see that these kids
are brainwashed by Jack. When society changes, innocence becomes lost. Overall, people around you
can affect who you become.
Moreover, is a corruption of a distracted society. Ralph is left, holding the conch, with no one but
Piggy. (Golding 38) The littluns didn t realize that they were becoming more savage each day. They
were unaware and too distracted by other implements in order towards noticing what they re turning
into. In an article, a man said Please, God, protect my family. (Kyle Hopkins 2) The family was at risk
for turbulence. The man knew of the situation, but the rest of the family was oblivious of, to the reality
from the outside. Distractions expose the benevolent and inadequate in all people.
In addition to the topic, fear causes the loss of innocence leading towards corruption. My dignity was
on the floor having to grab a piece of my dead friend and eat it in order to survive. ( I had to eat a
piece of my friend to survive 1) The man bespeaks terror onto death, remarkably he did something
inhuman in order for him to survive on the frontier. To illustrate this theme, the text in LOTF says
...great shuddering spasms of grief that seemed to wrench his whole body. (Golding 202) This is
significant because it shows that the boys fear the guilt. The boys then realize what they what they ve
done, who ve they killed and what atrocities they ve committed. In other hands, it illustrates that a
man can switch up his morals when he s scared.

Al Davis behind the Raider s Shield is a biography of Allen Davis. He was considered by people to be
a football legend. This biography was written by his former employees Bruce Kebric and Jon
Kingdon, with Steve Corkran, a sports writer. Al Davis, as he was fondly called, was the owner and
the general manager of the Oakland Raiders football team. Al from Brooklyn, New York, he often
bragged about how tough his neighborhood was growing up. He extremely loved the football games
and about his team, the Oakland Raiders. He was a man who recognized who he was and commanded
respect everywhere he went. He generated the image he wanted the public to see. He was highly
respected and feared by many people in the NFL.
He mastered the art of getting information from people without giving up any information. He led the
Oakland Raiders to many victories. The Oakland Raiders also suffered a considerable amount of loss.

their opinion of whom they believed Al Davis was. It was clearly evident that although they respected
and even revered him, they disagreed with his believes and his method of leadership. He was
superstitious at times. He was mostly autocratic in his leadership. He frequently ignored his scouts and
his coaches. He implemented decisions he thought was best and he never settled for less. He didn t
follow their advice. I admired Al s strength and determination. He had many inspirational quotes like,
All I do is win and Just win baby win . He never discriminated against anyone based on their sex or
color or background. He was the first NFL owner to draft an African American quarterback, the first to
hire a Latino coach and the first to hire a female as his chief executive. It was evident that he was not
racist or sexist. I learned some terms used in football like running back and

Analysis Of The Cane Toad Overpopulation
The article explains that several measures were proposed to reduce the cane toad population, and
provides three reasons of support. However, the professor explains that it would not be easy to get rid
off the cane toad population and several measures taken, but that were unsuccessful, and refutes each
of the author s reasons.
First, the reading posits that national fence reduced the cane toad population. The professor opposes
this point by saying that cane toad would not be controlled by the fence because through the rivers and
steams some of the toad s eggs would establish their community on other side of the fences. This
proves that the Fence would not be effected method to control the cane toad population.

A Brief Note On Pharmacology And The Nursing Process
Digoxin

Pharmacology and the Nursing Process

Sandra Laird
April 1, 2015 OVERVIEW OF DIGOXIN
Origin
Digoxin is a drug gotten from the leaves of a digitalis plant ( Digitalis, 2015, para. 1). We commonly
refer to this plant as foxglove but we also use its botanical name, which is Digitalis purpurea when
discussing it ( Digitalis, 2015, para. 2). Foxglove is a popular flower that can be found growing along
the roadsides and in meadows or waterlogged areas usually in the western region of the United States (
Digitalis, 2015, para. 2). Although this plant can now be found in America, European immigrants
originally brought Foxglove into the United States centuries ago ( Digitalis, 2015, para. 2). William
Withering first described the therapeutic effect of this plant in 1785 ( Digitalis, 2015, para. 4).
Drug Class
Digoxin is grouped under a class of drugs known as cardiac glycosides (Lilley, Collins, Snyder, 2014,
p. 387). Cardiac Glycosides are a class of drugs known as cardiac drugs (Lilley, Collins, Snyder, 2014,
p. 387). They are the oldest group of cardiac drugs that are recognized to have beneficial effects on
people with failing heart and help in controlling the heart s ventricular rate (Lilley, Collins, Snyder,
2014, p. 387). These drugs help make the heart beat stronger and with a more regular rhythm. In
previous years, cardiac glycosides (digoxin) were used as the first line drugs for heart

Colonialism Of Cherokees And The Cherokee Indians And...
Throughout history, we see various forms of colonialism that have happened in the world. Multiple
groups of people were affected by this act of colonizing. An example of the groups that were affected
would include the Cherokees and the Mayans. Both of these groups of people experienced colonialism
in similar ways, either by adaptation or resistance nevertheless they still had their differences.
Although both the Cherokees and the Mayans experience of colonialism occurred in different time
periods, their use of adaptation was used as a source of defense against their invaders. An example of
this would be the way Cherokee women reacted to the building of mission schools on Cherokee land.
They first viewed it as a threat to their role as Cherokee mothers. Once they began to understand the
expectations and goals the missionaries had, they maneuvered their children around these white
standards to keep their security while still having them in school. (Smith, 404). They found the benefit
if they conformed to this idea of civilized behavior the Europeans had. However, the Mayans didn t
encounter the use of schools on their land rather they encountered the use of labor. The use of forced
labor was often applied, but the Cakchiquel (a certain group of Mayans) found a way around it by
using the tacagual and peyobal methods. The tacagual method was where one Indian would pay
another to do his work, while the peyobal method was where an Indian would pay his town justices to

Robotic Surgery Benefits Springfield Hospital
The world of robotics has dramatically expanded in the past hundred years, leading to increased
explorations into whether robots are largely beneficial or detrimental to society. There are those who
say robotics can be used to achieve the impossible, to perfect existing methods and narrow down the
potential for risk, or to make life easier. On the other hand, there are plenty of cons that are a cause for
concern when it comes to robots that are just now coming to the light, previously never having been
imagined. Both in the medical field and in the commercial delivery business, robotic technology is
typically showcased as being immensely beneficial when utilized; however, as it becomes increasingly
implemented in these fields, it is being ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It also offers patients greatly improved clinical outcomes with both reduced pain and a quicker
recovery period. Effectively, what Stirling is asserting is that overall, clinical outcomes for patients
have been greatly improved due to reduced pain, less scarring and blood loss, and quicker recovery
times. While Stirling provides ample persuasive evidence for his claim that DRSS is largely
successful, I would include additional substantiation. He left out invaluable statistics that are provided
on DRSS s main website daVinci Surgery, such as the fact that DRSS has been used successfully in
about 1.5 million surgeries. Furthermore, daVinci Surgery informs that their robotic surgical system is
currently the number one choice for women afflicted with gynecologic cancer, and it is also used in 4
out of 5 prostatectomy surgeries. These statistics combined with Stirling s article provide the ultimate
proof that robots have truly become integrated in the medical field with great success. Despite the
tremendous success in implementing robots in the medical field, there is a considerable risk and cause
for concern when it comes to their technical security. Medical devices are consistently released to the
public with little to no security control ingrained in the software. Because of this, they can

Compare And Contrast Phaaethus And Icarus
The two myths Phaethon and Daedalus and Icarus describe two foolishly ambitous boys. Their
Characteristics are small minded, for what they do, say, feel, and think are relatively idiotic. The
conflict, or major problem is Character vs. Self. Through the use of Characterization and Conflict,
both mythical protagonists Phaethon and Icarus demonstrate a shared lesson that a prideful disregard
of the warnings from those who are older and wiser can lead to disastrous consequences. Furthermore,
Phaethon from Phaethon and Icarus from Daedalus and Icarus, both are prideful and foolish. These
characteristics are what progress the conflict. A good example is when Phaethon does not listen to his
fathers reasoning and instead uses Apollos promise against himself. I have asked sire and you have
promised (52) Phaethon obviously didnt even consider his fathers advice, or warning, he has an over
all disregard for his father Apollo, this isnt just rude, but disrespectful, these actions prove an overall
prideful personality, for he believes that he has the right to defy those who are not just older, but more
experienced and wise too, this pridefullness led to the climax, where Phaethon dies a most terrible
death. Icarus has similar characteristics, for example, when Daedalus warns Icarus, Icarus holds no
regard for this Warning. Above all do not fly to high (61) His father yells. Yet,later in the text Icarus
specifically states Sun...I can fly as high as you! Icarus doesnt just

  • 2. Amp Meeting Reflection Today I went to my first AMP meeting. It was completely different than I expected, but I think that will turn out to be a good thing. In the beginning I thought this was a program for youth to attend voluntarily, and I thought most of the attendees would be from families with foster or kinship care. I was wrong, as most of the attendees were from group homes around Ames and they were there as part of their recovery process. This shocked me a little but in just the short amount of time I spent with them I grew to really like them. I think that often youth in group homes are stigmatized and thought of as bad kids, when in reality most of them just haven t had the support they need or grew up in poor environments that lead them to where they are. ... • 3. Social Responsibility in the development of Alberta s Oil... Introduction: The oil sands development in northern Alberta has become a hot bed for debate between producers and environmental groups. With worldwide water crisis rapidly developing the use of water in the development Alberta s oil sands begs the question, are the oil sands in northern Alberta being developed with social responsibility in mind? Social responsibility is a balance companies must maintain between people, the planet and profit. Propaganda produced by environmental agencies and oil companies must be examined for biases; environmentalists seem to blame all of Canada s environmental ailments on evil oil companies (Thompson, 2012). Stakeholders Affected: With so many people involved with the development of Alberta s oil ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Government has been working closely with industry for years, which is also a key factor in developing the oil sands in a socially responsible way. Most major oil companies are involved with initiatives like Water for Life Strategy, Alberta Water Council and Petroleum Technology Alliance Canada (CAPP, 2012). Alberta s oil sands are being developed with social responsibility in mind. Dr. Lorne Taylor (2012, p. 3), the chair of the Alberta Water Research Institute, states, Organizations like Greenpeace and the Sierra Club are convincing Canadians and the world that Alberta s oil sands are a scourge on the environment . Environmental groups and the media are unfortunately shedding a poor light on the development of the oil sands in northern Alberta. Bob Weinhold (2011, pg. 119), a veteran environmental journalist, states the Royal Society of Canada (RSC) panel found no evidence that people are currently being harmed by oil sands activity . Both the environmentalist side and the oil sands producer s side must be evaluated with an objective mind as each contains truths as well as embellishments. Taylor (2009, pg. 2) argues that a major misconception is the province, people and industry of Alberta ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. Safe Injection Site in Vancouver Eastside Essay The Effect of Safe Injection Sites in Vancouver, British Columbia A safe injection site (SIS) has been placed in Vancouver s Downtown Eastside where drug use is a challenging problem. The program is a vital piece of the cities known harm reduction approach to its serious problems with homelessness, drugs, crime and AIDS. Canada has drastically shifted its method. Going from punishing drug users to establishing the plan of harm reduction. Since 2003 when the supervised SIS opened, it has presented a safe health focused center where drug users have access to inject illegal drugs using sterile equipment in a clean environment under the supervision of medically trained professionals. Although there are some serious concerns about the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Results of safe injection site studies have shown that an expansion may have a greater impact. This may reduce the chance of dangerous encounters between users of these safe injection sites and the public. Children not even out of elementary school, were getting involved in the drug scene. These runaways were a concern to the residents, who witnessed overdoses in the past decade. Over 2,000 lives were lost due to the Downtowns East side s drug fuelled spiral (MacQueen et al., 2003). Persisting the safe injection site can help in lowering risk behaviors by the drug users of SIS s and community concerns that are related to public injection of drugs (McKnight et al,. 2007). Overall, SIS s may have the ability to change the drug users and transform them into potential productive members of society. Effect of Insite on Future Generations It is suggested that since Insite was created, it has been sending the wrong message to the youth of Vancouver stating that injection drug use is acceptable and has support. This approach is unlikely and naïve. There is evidence shown that the total number of drug users in cities with SIS s has decreased. The introduction of SISs is being understood as that drug use is right. Rather than it is limited, self contained, and is a responsible harm reduction facility that responds to urgent health risks. Harm reduction is defined as an ideology viewing drug use as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Most of the employees work in the sales and services departments. The CEO of this company began to take steps into making the company better. Both external and internal driving forces drove this change. The definition of these two terms needs to be looked at in order to understand what they were. External factors are the factors that occur outside the scope of the company or organization, for example, the economy. These factors are outside the influence of the company (Lindbald, 2014). On the other hand, internal factors are factors that occur within the scope of the organization and are within the control of the company. The men and affects of war on them did not change, people s tolerance for them did. No one wants to deal the mentally unstable or disabled used to be war heroes. They want the bright and shining young men who stood for their country, but these two types of men are the same. The old and forgotten used to be the bright and shining, and they should be treated as such. They deserve the valor and honor that surrounded them when they shipped off to still be there when they finally come home. Caring for the Veteran s when they come home begins with the military itself; these are there men coming home and it needs to stay as such. I believe in a motto of once a soldier, always a soldier, and that the military is something that should always be there for its members. When injured or outdated servicemen come home from their final assignment, they receive honorable discharge. There should be no discharge however; there should only be retirement from the field. In most of these heroic tales they loosely or strictly follow a schematic called the Hero s Journey. The Hero s Journey consists of a hero, obviously, who is set apart from his/her peers at birth usually caused by the gods and/or goddesses. For example, Gilgamesh is born two thirds god and one third man, automatically making him different than his people. Then said hero receives a call to adventure, otherworldly help, they typically face many challenges and temptations along the way, and commonly beat death before transforming and returning home. • 11. Friction Stir Welding And Artificial Neural Networks 1. INTRODUCTION 1.1 BACKGROUND Friction stir welding ( FSW) and Artificial neural networks (ANN) are two well known approaches in their respective field. FSW is a well known method in material sciences and ANN in computer science. The aim is to combine these two approaches to get some important results. Friction stir welding (FSW) is a novel method of joining materials in solid state. It was invented by the Welding Institute (TWI) in 1991. It was initially applied for joining aluminium and later expanded its domain for joining similar and dissimilar alloys. Basically in FSW a specially designed rotating cylindrical tool that comprises of shoulder and pin is used. The pin of the rotating tool is plunged into the sheet material and the shoulder comes into contact with the surface of sheet, and then traverses in the desired direction. The contact between the rotating tool and the sheet generate heat which softens the material below the melting point and with the stirring caused by the pin, the material within the processed zone undergoes intense plastic deformation yielding a dynamically recrystallized fine grain microstructure. Artificial Neural Networks (ANN) is a network of simple processing elements (neurons) which exhibits complex behavior, determined by the connections between the processing elements and element parameter. Each neuron is connected to other neurons by means of directed communication links, each with an associated weight. The weight represents ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Even though Adolf Hitler was dead his army could still be felt across the continent. It was now time to rebuilt. This wasn t just the rebuilding of cities and lives, it was the rebuilding of order. Hitler had tipped the delicate scale of order and balance and the scale had to be fixed. The original purpose of this treaty wasn t to unify Europe but in a few years that was its effect. The ECSC Treaty s original purpose was to improve the economies that suffered during the war. There was also hope that European integration would stem from this treaty. The founding countries of this community were France, West Germany, Italy, Luxembourg and the Netherlands. He reacts to the war, showing that reality is contaminated and dishonored, changing conventional poetic techniques into something that appears to be rather ordinary on the outside. In the poem, Owen shows the critical versions of reality by using figurative language, imagery, and irony. First of all, the author uses simile, which is one form of figurative languages, to support the idea of exhaust and pain during the war which contradicts the belief that it is sweet and honorable to die for your country. Nuclear energy is one attempt to decrease the rate at which nonrenewable fossil fuels are being consumed. Golding illustrates innocence and corruption with ethical, and emotional appeals based on human nature. Group influence, a distracted society, and group influence can corrupt a man. With that said, innocence is only temporary. Ordinarily, individuals are born innocent, although man signify corruption by society through group influence. For example, a text in a Newsela article reads I ransacked. I pillaged. I took people s things by force. ( In a war, children without a childhood 1) For instance, in Lord of the Flies, the littluns chanted, Kill the beast! Cut its throat! Spill the blood! Moreover, is a corruption of a distracted society. Ralph is left, holding the conch, with no one but Piggy. (Golding 38) The littluns didn t realize that they were becoming more savage each day. They were unaware and too distracted by other implements in order towards noticing what they re turning into. In an article, a man said Please, God, protect my family. (Kyle Hopkins 2) The family was at risk for turbulence. The man knew of the situation, but the rest of the family was oblivious of, to the reality from the outside. Distractions expose the benevolent and inadequate in all people. In addition to the topic, fear causes the loss of innocence leading towards corruption. However, the professor explains that it would not be easy to get rid off the cane toad population and several measures taken, but that were unsuccessful, and refutes each of the author s reasons. First, the reading posits that national fence reduced the cane toad population. The professor opposes this point by saying that cane toad would not be controlled by the fence because through the rivers and steams some of the toad s eggs would establish their community on other side of the fences. This proves that the Fence would not be effected method to control the cane toad population. Secondly, the author claims ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 34. A Brief Note On Pharmacology And The Nursing Process Digoxin Oluchi Madubuike University of Texas at Arlington Pharmacology and the Nursing Process N3365 001 Sandra Laird April 1, 2015 OVERVIEW OF DIGOXIN Origin Digoxin is a drug gotten from the leaves of a digitalis plant ( Digitalis, 2015, para. 1). We commonly refer to this plant as foxglove but we also use its botanical name, which is Digitalis purpurea when discussing it ( Digitalis, 2015, para. 2). Foxglove is a popular flower that can be found growing along the roadsides and in meadows or waterlogged areas usually in the western region of the United States ( Digitalis, 2015, para. 2). Although this plant can now be found in America, European immigrants originally brought Foxglove into the United States centuries ago ( Digitalis, 2015, para. 2). William Withering first described the therapeutic effect of this plant in 1785 ( Digitalis, 2015, para. 4). Drug Class Digoxin is grouped under a class of drugs known as cardiac glycosides (Lilley, Collins, Snyder, 2014, p. 387). Cardiac Glycosides are a class of drugs known as cardiac drugs (Lilley, Collins, Snyder, 2014, p. 387). They are the oldest group of cardiac drugs that are recognized to have beneficial effects on people with failing heart and help in controlling the heart s ventricular rate (Lilley, Collins, Snyder, 2014, p. 387). • 36. Colonialism Of Cherokees And The Cherokee Indians And... Throughout history, we see various forms of colonialism that have happened in the world. Multiple groups of people were affected by this act of colonizing. An example of the groups that were affected would include the Cherokees and the Mayans. Both of these groups of people experienced colonialism in similar ways, either by adaptation or resistance nevertheless they still had their differences. Although both the Cherokees and the Mayans experience of colonialism occurred in different time periods, their use of adaptation was used as a source of defense against their invaders. An example of this would be the way Cherokee women reacted to the building of mission schools on Cherokee land. They first viewed it as a threat to their role as Cherokee mothers. Once they began to understand the expectations and goals the missionaries had, they maneuvered their children around these white standards to keep their security while still having them in school. (Smith, 404). They found the benefit if they conformed to this idea of civilized behavior the Europeans had. However, the Mayans didn t encounter the use of schools on their land rather they encountered the use of labor. The use of forced labor was often applied, but the Cakchiquel (a certain group of Mayans) found a way around it by using the tacagual and peyobal methods. The tacagual method was where one Indian would pay another to do his work, while the peyobal method was where an Indian would pay his town justices to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 38. Robotic Surgery Benefits Springfield Hospital The world of robotics has dramatically expanded in the past hundred years, leading to increased explorations into whether robots are largely beneficial or detrimental to society. There are those who say robotics can be used to achieve the impossible, to perfect existing methods and narrow down the potential for risk, or to make life easier. On the other hand, there are plenty of cons that are a cause for concern when it comes to robots that are just now coming to the light, previously never having been imagined. Both in the medical field and in the commercial delivery business, robotic technology is typically showcased as being immensely beneficial when utilized; however, as it becomes increasingly implemented in these fields, it is being ... Effectively, what Stirling is asserting is that overall, clinical outcomes for patients have been greatly improved due to reduced pain, less scarring and blood loss, and quicker recovery times. While Stirling provides ample persuasive evidence for his claim that DRSS is largely successful, I would include additional substantiation. He left out invaluable statistics that are provided on DRSS s main website daVinci Surgery, such as the fact that DRSS has been used successfully in about 1.5 million surgeries. Furthermore, daVinci Surgery informs that their robotic surgical system is currently the number one choice for women afflicted with gynecologic cancer, and it is also used in 4 out of 5 prostatectomy surgeries. These statistics combined with Stirling s article provide the ultimate proof that robots have truly become integrated in the medical field with great success. Despite the tremendous success in implementing robots in the medical field, there is a considerable risk and cause for concern when it comes to their technical security. Medical devices are consistently released to the public with little to no security control ingrained in the software. Because of this, they can ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 39. Compare And Contrast Phaaethus And Icarus The two myths Phaethon and Daedalus and Icarus describe two foolishly ambitous boys. Their Characteristics are small minded, for what they do, say, feel, and think are relatively idiotic. The conflict, or major problem is Character vs. Self. Through the use of Characterization and Conflict, both mythical protagonists Phaethon and Icarus demonstrate a shared lesson that a prideful disregard of the warnings from those who are older and wiser can lead to disastrous consequences. Furthermore, Phaethon from Phaethon and Icarus from Daedalus and Icarus, both are prideful and foolish. These characteristics are what progress the conflict. A good example is when Phaethon does not listen to his fathers reasoning and instead uses Apollos promise against himself. I have asked sire and you have promised (52) Phaethon obviously didnt even consider his fathers advice, or warning, he has an over all disregard for his father Apollo, this isnt just rude, but disrespectful, these actions prove an overall prideful personality, for he believes that he has the right to defy those who are not just older, but more experienced and wise too, this pridefullness led to the climax, where Phaethon dies a most terrible death. Icarus has similar characteristics, for example, when Daedalus warns Icarus, Icarus holds no regard for this Warning. Above all do not fly to high (61) His father yells.
