John Smith Pocahontas Facts
Famous for saving the life of John Smith, Pocahontas is a legend (Morenus). The real question is
Who was Pocahontas and was she real or just a legend for kids? Most people have heard of
Pocahontas, who was primarily linked to the English colonist through Captain John Smith
(Biography). Pocahontas, whose real name was Matoaka, was a native American who became
famous for helping English colonists new to America ( PocahontasFacts ). Matoaka, the beautiful
and lively daughter of Powhatan(Morenus), ruler of the land that the English named Virginia, is a
name most people question because they are not familiar with it, using the nickname Pocahontas
instead. Pocahontas translates into many different things including the playful one or little wanton

The English arrived in early 1607, but Pocahontas did not meet John Smith until that May (Her
Life). The story starts off when one day while exploring the Chickahominy River, John Smith was
captured by one of Powhatan s hunting parties (Ancient Origins). Powhatan was Pocahontas father
and also the leader of the Indian tribes. As Smith tells it, he was brought in front of Chief Powhatan
(Her Life). Two large stones were placed on the ground and Smith s head was forced upon the
two large stones and a warrior raised a club to smash in Smith s brains (Her Life). Pocahontas
stepped in and placed Smith s head in her arms and her head upon his to save him from being
beaten (Morenus). After Pocahontas saved John Smith, she then came to his side and helped him

they cut down the old rope bridge and build a one, (Walking Across Space: Incan Rope Bridges).
Rope bridges are a very important part in Incan culture. They have been the Incas way of
transportation for centuries. Rope bridges are made of only dry grass stalks and are considered
to be an incredible engineering feat as they can hold 56 people, or 4,200 pounds of weight. If
tourists join our tour, they will get to watch the amazing the rope building process and method that
the Incas have passed down from generation to generation. On the first day of

Environmental Problems in El Salvador
With a total land mass of just 8,124 square miles, El Salvador is the smallest country in Central
America. Like many of its neighboring countries, it possesses very few natural resources. Since
the nation s economy is based predominantly on agriculture, it s no surprise that its citizens often
experience resource roller coasters . In addition, its long history of inappropriate land tenure and
ownership practices date all the way back to colonialism. Even more strikingly, sixty percent of El
Salvadors population is expected to live in the capital by 2010. As a result, El Salvador has to deal
with continuing environmental problems. The fact that the nation lies along the Pacific Ring of
fire doesn t help either, which subjects... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Despite receiving six feet of rainfall each year, most of the nation s water is highly
contaminated. In fact, thousands are killed each year due to water contamination, many of
whom are children. At the same time, most of the citizens of the nation cannot afford bottled
water. After the twelve year civil war destroyed much of the country s infrastructure, poor areas
became even poorer. Homes and water sources had been destroyed by militia during the war.
After returning home, some citizens chose to hand dig wells in order to obtain drinking water.
However, many others went to their nearest stream, river or pond to collect water. These unsafe
and contaminated water sources caused many people to become ill with intestinal diseases.
According to Ricardo Navarro, El Salvador s government has failed to protect its most precious
resource: Farmers have cut down forests that used to store rain water. Ranchers have allowed
their livestock to pollute rivers. Communities have put latrines too close to shallow wells. Others,
such as Marisol Prima Ponza, who runs a government dispensary that tracks the health of 375
children in several communities, believe that things are improving. There have been fewer cases
of diarrhea, she says. For example, from January to August of this year I have only recorded 17
cases. Ponza also added that these improvements are due to several projects that

Studying At New York University
If you are going to be passionate about something, be passionate about learning. This belief that
Knowledge is power has dawned on me from the very young age. My father who had struggled
to impart good education early in his life, had to start working at a very young age of 17 but he
never gave up on education. Today he holds 2 degrees of MA and MBA and still continues to do
his PhD from a distant learning at the age of 54. I realized that to excel in life, it is essential to
keep learning, and that work and learning are a continuum. I aspire to further my knowledge in
the field of Information Systems from New York University. My immediate goal is to develop my
potential by further improving my technical knowledge and skills through higher learning
provided by a sustained period of graduate studies; followed by working in an organization that
can positively utilize my abilities and help in overall economic and social development. I firmly
believe that studying at New York University would help me apply my knowledge and create
innovative technological solutions to solve socio economic problems. A structured environment
will not only improve my skills but also hone my enthusiasm to affect the critical process of change
that development entails. For an engineer it is utmost importance to become an erudite in his field.
Management Information Systems gives me that path since it parallels with my previous education
and the work experience that I gained for more than 2 years

100 Life Expectancy Calculator
I was surprised at how much education level, marital status, weight, blood pressure, and stress
can affect a life expectance. According to the Living to 100 Life Expectancy Calculator, I am
predicted to live to 93 years old. A 2015 National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and
Medicine report said men born in 1930 could expect to reach about age 82 if their income put them
in the top 20 percent of earners and they survived to age 50. And high earners born in 1960 are
projected to live to 89 a sizable seven year gain in three decades (Henricks, 2018, para 9). Marital
status can also play a part in determining longevity. Getting married is a good way to live longer at

Boko Haram Is A Terrorist Group
Boko Haram is a terrorist group that primarily has its stronghold in Nigeria. It consists of a rough
group of barbaric Muslims that are terrorizing the villages over the area. This group frequently

according to Sharia law, which is the Islamic religion, ladies should be illiterate, and should be

Mary Rowlandson s Captivity Narrative Analysis
Mary Rowlandson s captivity narrative was published anonymously by someone who wanted to
protect Rowlandson as a woman author. Davis writes, the publisher claims credit for persuading
this modest woman to allow publication of her private material and gives credibility to a work that
would not be allowed to stand on its own because of its female author (58). While the publisher
takes credit for getting Rowlandson to publish her captivity narrative, he also encourages the
audience in the preface to accept the work of Rowlandson, a woman. He even reminds the
audience that Rowlandson is the wife of a minister (Davis 58). By doing all of this, he is trying to
make sure the audience does not discredit her work simply because it was written by a woman. It is
important to understand the women s role in the Puritansociety. The Puritans believe that a woman
is Christ s bride, husband s wife, a mother, and a good wife. Women in this time were required to
obey and submit to men in authority, especially their husbands (Davis 54). This is idea of
submitting to husbands is biblical. Ephesians 5: 22 24 states, Wives, submit to your own husbands,
as to the Lord. For the husband is head of the wife ... Therefore, just as the church is subject to
Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in everything (The Bible). Since the Puritans
studied the scripture and followed, it is understandable why this is a Puritan belief. This idea of
submitting is shown between Rowlandson and her Indian master. She is aware of the
consequences and wants to be in favor with him; therefore, she used her Puritan ideology to gain
favor (Davis 54). For example, in the ninth remove, Rowlandson writes, At last he told me if I
would make another shirt, for a papoose not yet born, he would give me a knife, which he did
when I had done it (280). In this passage, Rowlandson is submitting to her master by making
another shirt in order to receive a knife from him. Overall, in her narrative, it is seen that
Rowlandson stays true to the Puritan belief of women submitting to men, even though it is not her
husband. Many Puritans saw this captivity as a punishment for sins similar to the forty years of
wandering for the

Reflection Of Leadership And Leadership In The Honors College
Throughout this semester, I learned so much and gained so much confidence in my ability to
lead. I had never led through the Honors College before this semester nor had I ever felt so
involved and included within the Honors College. Being an Honors Year One mentor has
allowed me to grow in ways that I would have never grown if it was not for this experience.
Through my experience, I have made friends, realized what all the Honors College has to offer and
connect freshmen with others. I learned how I lead best, how to not always be the leader, what my
strengths are and how to use them to their full potential, and what needs to happen differently next
semester in hopes to improve the experience for the freshmen.
I thought our mentor class was absolutely phenomenal. Tiffany continuously led us well and
reigned us in well when we needed to get down to business. Her leadership, council, and example
made a difference for me when leading my freshmen. She was also very encouraging, which was
much needed. At the beginning, I was intimidated by Rebecca being in our class each week.
However, the intimidation faded, and I quickly learned to appreciate her. She had many great
suggestions as well as a great insight. I may be an extrovert, but on the first day of our mentor
class, I was very intimidated and nervous. I had no earthly idea what to expect. However, as it is
now the end of the semester, I am honestly sad the class had to come to an end. I learned so much

I had heard veterans of the Nipa Hut describe what went on behind those closed doors and I am
sure the look of amazement and confusion on my face made those storytellers quite happy. To
be honest, more than anything else, I was filled with disbelief. I had pretty much decided that
most of the stories were bullshit created during some fucked up misadventure. But being curious,
and never wanting to doubt the words of a GI, I had to check it out. I knew there was no way
that shit I was told was legal anywhere in the world; but we were in the Philippines, so anything

mentioned a recent rumor circulating about a show at the Nipa Hut involving one of the
performers engaging in fellatio with a caribou. These rumors were quickly met with disgust and
emphatic responses of disbelief. My immediate thought was that bestiality had to be illegal, even in
the PI. Seriously, the act sounded disgusting and gross; not to mention the fact that it was not at all
natural, nor right. After much discussion and disbelief about the rumor Kirkman was spewing, we
decided that the Nighthawks would have to further investigate. Our mission was simple, we were

Intrinsic value refers to the value of a company, stock, currency or product determined through
fundamental analysis without reference to its market value. It is ordinarily calculated by
summing the discounted future income generated by the asset to obtain the present value. In
this case, Facebook s intrinsic value is its estimate value/share from Discounted Cash Flow
analysis. As it is showed in Exhibit 3, Facebook s estimated value/share is $32.44 using
Discounted Cash Flow analysis. The price from the price talk is $38, which was raised from
around $28 to $35 to $34 to $38 per share because of the overwhelming demand from investors.
And the price talk is 17% higher than the intrinsic value. Based on our one way sensitivity
analysis of seven variables as it is showed in Exhibit 4, which are revenue growth rate, terminal
growth rate, pre tax operating margin, increase in Capex, increase in NWC, cost of capital and
marginal tax rate, we conclude that cost of capital and pre tax operating margin are the two most
sensitive variables from our calculation of the slope rate R. And our two way

Government Intervention and the Causes of the Great...
The economic business cycle of the world is its own living and breathing entity expanding and
contracting with imprecise balances involving supply and demand. The expansions and
contractions also known as booms and recessions support a delicate equilibrium of checks and
balances, employment and unemployment. The year 1929 marked the beginning of the downward
spiral of this delicate economic balance known as The Great Depressionof the United States of
America. The Great Depression is by far the most significant economic event that occurred during
the twentieth century making other depressions pale in comparison. As a result, it placed the world

The economists who believed in the predominate state blamed the free market and the free
marketers blamed the government for involving policy in an economic issue. Whatever theory one
chooses to follow it is imperative to comprehend the various factors that caused the Great
Depression in order to avoid the past from repeating itself through poor economic judgment.
Bank Failures
The first cause of the Great Depression under scrutiny is the analysis of the bank failures that
occurred leading up to the depression. During its early stages, any bank that had a loan out to a
stock market investor placed itself at a large risk. This coupled with bank runs, which are the
liquidation of funds by bank members en masse, continued to make matters worse even for the
stronger financial institutions. The government led by President Hoover decided to allow
contraction to fall on profits instead of dividends as part of his monetary policy. The nation s firms
followed this advice resulting in an initial drop in corporate profits. This drop created a domino
effect resulting in plummeting firm securities, which manifested the decay of bank portfolios.
Blinded by his own ambition, Hoover felt that he should pass a fiscal policy to show his faith in the
American economy. Since there was a continuation of budget surpluses, his administration reduced
the income tax rates, which ultimately led to a budget deficit. To remedy the

The Benefits of Offshore Drilling Essay
As a young girl comes out of the ocean from swimming, suddenly she notices the brown oily stains
on her bathing suit. When she looks back into the water, tar balls flow with the current of the water.
The girl automatically washes the toxins off of her body, and she no longer wants to go to the
beach for vacation. This results in lower tourist rates. Although accidents happen, the coastal
workers continually strive to keep the beaches clean for the tourists that visit regularly. The recent
British Petroleumoil spill that ravaged the Gulf Coast has turned people away from offshore

Oil spills usually occur as temporary accidents, while pollution from trucks happens every day.
Therefore, offshore drilling does not contaminate the water as badly as the United States thinks.
Another benefit of offshore oil drilling consists of increasing job opportunities for people. The
unstable economy in the United States results in people losing their jobs quite often. In the book
Offshore Drilling, the loss of job opportunity in the United States is explained this way:
The high cost of energy is making it impossible for many U.S. companies to remain competitive
here and is driving them to relocate their plants overseas. . . Plant relocations have been a major
factor in the loss of nearly five million manufacturing jobs in the past 20 years. (Offshore)
If platforms relocate overseas due to high costs, Americans lose a staggering amount of jobs at
one time. Americans need these jobs in order to raise their families and to continue supporting
the economy. Employment rates will increase if more offshore oil drilling arises. A few years
ago, the Deep Ocean Energy Resources Act was passed (Offshore). In defense of the DOER Act,
Representative Richard Pombo (R CA) said, The balance struck in this bill will save and create
American jobs (Offshore). This statement remains very true. When more offshore drilling takes
place, the extra jobs on the new rigs will be available to unemployed people. The government needs
to raise and maintain the employment levels.

Essay on The Importance of Good Role Models
The Importance of Good Role Models
Charles Barkley stands in a dimly lit gym with a basketball squeezed between his beefy hands.
He is only filming a commercial. Or is he? As he looks squarely into the camera, he declares, I
am not a role model...I am paid to wreak havoc on the basketball court (Smith 1). After he says
this, a question begins to form in the minds of the viewers. Who, then Charles, should be a role
model? Now, just because this is a commercial for a basketball shoe does not mean Charles
Barkley does not have a reply floating around in that shiny bald head of his. He retorts, Parents
should be role models. Just because I dunk a basketball, doesn t mean I should raise your kids (1).

That is why it is time for a change. That is why it is time for qualified people and people who want
to be role models to be given a chance to be role models. Athletes such as Charles Barkley have
recognized this need for a change. Dave Winfield, a former major league baseball player with
such teams as the New York Yankees and the former California Angels, recognizes this need for
a change. He believes that athletes should not be the primary role models in a child s life.
Instead parents, not athletes, entertainers or politicians, should claim the position of being a role
model (Berlow 31). This statement not only speaks for itself, but it also poses an interesting
question. If athletes themselves continue to declare themselves ineligible to be a role model,
then why do people continually allow their children to admire these athletes for more than his
/her sports abilities? At this point in time, the parents should know better. Parents would not
allow their kids to admire some hoodlum on the street, but because sports are in a controlled
atmosphere, they do not see the dangers in athletes being role models. As Charles Barkley puts
it, There are a million guys in jail who can play ball. Should they be role models? Of course not
(Berlow 35). Yet, many parents do not realize or do not want to admit that many athletes have a
good amount of time on the other side of the law. The big message here is that being a

Cicero s First Catilinarian Oration Essay
Cicero s First Catilinarian Oration: A Rhetorical and Literary Analysis
The pen is mightier than the sword. As a youth, I disagreed with this statement. How could a pen
ever defeat a sword? Over time, I have come to understand how words and speech can influence
generations more than just fear or force. Cicero s speeches are prime examples of how rhetoric is
more powerful than military prowess or use of arms. His rhetoric influenced public policy and
successive generations. Unlike Caesar and Pompey, he had no significant military command yet;
his reputation was just as strong. Cicero s general objectives in the First Catilinarian Oration
were to portray Catiline as a traitor, achieve support for an action against Catiline, and protect
himself from any repercussions. To demonstrate this rhetoric I will analyze sections 3 and 4 from
his First Catilinarian Oration. I have choses these sections because they best show how Cicero
uses rhetoric to achieve his objective. In order to classify and understand Cicero s rhetoric, first I
will define the kinds of speech and parts of rhetoric. Second, I will analyze his rhetoric by
commenting on his chosen rhetorical techniques and topics.
According to Aristotle, there are three kinds of speech: deliberative oratory, forensic oratory, and
epideictic oratory. Cicero s First Catilinarian Oration falls mainly under the deliberative oratory
category but, has elements of forensic and epideictic oratory. Deliberative oratory is any rhetoric

The Pros And Cons Of Corporal Punishment
A new study suggested that kids who suffered spanking may have relationship issues later in life.
According to the researchers, led by Dr. Jeff R. Temple of the University of Texas Medical Branch,
children who experienced corporal punishment have a tendency for domestic abuse upon adulthood.
In the study, the researchers surveyed 758 young adults, 61 percent were female, with a mean age
of 20 years. They asked the participants on how often they were slapped, spanked or struck with an
object as punishment when they were young. The participants who experienced such punishment in
their childhood admitted to committing abuse on their dating partners.
The findings specifically noted 68 percent of the participants experienced corporal punishment as
children, while 19 percent reported physical dating abuse perpetration. The result was sustained
even with controlled factors, such as gender, age, ethnicity, parental education, child physical abuse,
and childhood corporal punishment.
Corporal or physical punishment is a punishment designed to cause physical pain to a person,
commonly practiced at home and school settings. The common methods of corporal punishment are
spanking and paddling. The subject is a controversial topic even if it clearly delivers negative
effects in children.
You cannot punish out these behaviors that you do not want. There is no need for corporal
punishment based on the research. We are not giving up an effective technique. We are saying this

Gospel Of Luke Wealth
In the Gospel of Luke, heaven is signified by Jesus Kingdom and can be entered even by those
who sin as long as they repent their sins. Jesus informs human beings that in order to enter his
kingdom, you must be a righteous person at the time of death. The themes of love, wealth, and
poverty embrace Jesusteachings. He states explicitly that you must love thy enemy like you love
thy neighbor in order to be allowed into Heaven. You must bless them, care for them and when
stricken on the cheek you must offer up the other one. In order to love thy neighbor, Jesus tells
human beings that they must, [take] pity on him (Luke 10:35 25 37). Rather than ignore a half
dead man like the Priest and Levite, you must be merciful in order to, love your... Show more

He tells humans that, each tree is known by its own fruit , implying that you are loved by Jesus
through your actions rather than your possessions. Any man can do good to someone who does
good to him, but only a good heart can produce good treasure. The theme of love continues to
connect with the themes of poverty and wealth throughout the Gospel of Luke. Rather than being
contempt with a life full of greed, Jesus wants you to share your wealth because, you cannot serve
both God and Money. In order to enter the Kingdom, you must do things for others rather than
yourself. If you do what is righteous you will be blessed and repaid in the Kingdom of Heaven.
Jesus pronounces in chapter 12 of Luke that, a man s life does not consist in the abundance of
his possessions. No matter how much wealth you have, you are no different than a man who has
nothing if you are not kind hearted. Chapter 12 of Luke ties back to the golden rule stated in
chapter 6, line 31; do to other as you would have them to do to you , If you want to enter Jesus
Kingdom you must share your wealth rather than build a bigger barn and take life easy. If you
become choked by life s worries, riches, and pleasures then you have not retained the word of
Jesus and you must not have, a noble and good heart , therefore, you cannot enter Jesus Kingdom
because you have ears that do not hear. The theme of love connects

from cross functional team members. o Short term / one time requests use of email, or telephone is
appropriate.
Be clear on need. Ask for response to show understanding by receiver. Give opportunity for
questions as needed. o Technical communications hold them person to person, or in meeting(s).
Use Power point presentations, with handouts, questions and answer sections, note taker for issues
to answer outside of the meeting. o Executive high level reasons, coasts and benefits to the
company.
Give a brief background of issue. If you must use a slide presentation, keep to a minimum. In

functional communications
Kick off meetings. Have team members sit at circular tables.
Perform some team building techniques.
Brainstorming to confirm understanding level
The next barrier type is personal. These barriers can occur for both the sender and receiver. Ones
ability to send or receive information is effected by many factors. Mood, prejudices against another

The Diesel Hybrid Combustion Engine Essay
The Diesel Hybrid Combustion Engine
Two main types of engines powering everyday machinery are diesel and gasoline internal
combustion engines. Both vary on efficiency levels, but are still effective. Diesel engines have
high efficiency levels, such as producing great amount of torque at very low rpms. They are also
known for their fuel efficient behavior and capability to produce low emissions.
Their capability to produce power at an efficient rate with little wear on the engine, this makes these
engines ideal for hybrid integration. Hybrid integration takes a typical engine and combines it with
an electric generator and motor, with the application of other electrical systems applied. Allowing

The MIT testing and research went into much more detail besides fuel efficiency and emission
release. These areas are still are very important in the mind of the everyday consumer.
Current Developments:
The diesel hybrid idea is now being applied to several different applications. It ranges from road,
to water, and railroad. In each scenario the applications are the similar but the designs are different.
In Vancouver, Canada, RailPower Technologies has designed a hybrid locomotive, the Green
Goat, which utilizes diesel fuel and electric motors. The basic design started with removing all
the original engine parts and replacing them with a 6.0L Daewoo diesel engine and 20 volt lead
acid batteries (Siuru 1). This design uses the diesel engine, which acts as a generator to charge the
batteries. The batteries are then used to power the locomotive. Batteries propel the locomotive
leaving more empty space under the hood. The result of all this is: ability to create a smaller hood
increasing overall visibility for locomotive engineers, fuel economy improvement of 35%, and a
90% reduction of overall emissions (Siuru 1).

Oppression Of Minority Groups In America
America has always been labeled the melting pot and the land of the free, but when one is
analyzing the history and social norms of the country, these statements are far from true. America
has thrived through the oppression of minority groups and social pressure towards these groups
to conform to the majority culture. In any historical sense, from the near extermination of Native
Americans to the racial profiling of Muslim individuals after the 9/11 terrorist attacks, minority
groups have always been the victims and have always been viewed as different if they do not
assimilate into the typical American culture. Numerous works of literature have successfully
displayed the struggles that minorities face when attempting to conform. Two works in particular,
The Absolutely True Diary of a Part Time Indian by Alexie Sherman and When the Emperor Was
Divine by Julie Otsuka, tell stories of two different minority groups: Native Americans living in
the 21st century and Japanese Americans during World War II. While these stories are separated
by several decades, it is clear that American culture has not changed, as each story exemplifies how
difficult it truly is to leave old cultural norms behind in order to be accepted by the majority.
World War II is often remembered for the terrible treatment of minority groups all across the globe.
While the most famous example during this time is the Holocaust, many forget about the Japanese
internment camps in the United States.

This allows your cardiovascular centres in your brain a little bit more latitude as far as controlling
your heart rate. If you were to remove a beating heart from someone s body you would find that the
heart is no longer being suppressed by the parasympathetic nervous system and it will accelerate to
the same pace as the sinoatrial node. The SA node generates action potentials approximately 100
times per minute due to the physiology of the heart, its own permeability to sodium and calcium
via its channels, and a host of other things. Anywhere between 80 to 100 beats per minute is normal
for the SA node.

cardiac is involuntary, skeletal is voluntary cardiac is unstriated, skeletal is striated

The effective refractory period is the time in which the cell is incapable of responding to a second
stimulus between the phases of 0 3.5, while the relative refractory period is the time in which the
cell is making preparations to receive stimulus between phase 3.5 4.
9. When the heart is externally stimulated just after the start of the contraction cycle, why does this
have no affect on heart rate?
This is because once a contraction has started, the action potential has already fired, stimularing the

Every school day, teachers will have numerous interactions with their students. The type of
interaction directly impact students social, emotional, and academic success at school (Wilkins,

as of late, more research has been applied at the primary, secondary, and collegiate levels. Current

Results from the research found that teacher s negative behavior in class had a direct effect on
inappropriate assertiveness from students. Dissatisfied teacher behavior impacts a student
emotionally, behaviorally, and socially. A teacher that shows outstanding leadership qualities guides
students to become socially aware of their actions with their peers. Research conducted among
secondary or high school levels were geared more toward the teacher s perception of their own
relationship with students instead of viewing from the student point of view. Four aspects were
identified by teachers to be the most beneficial characteristics of good student teacher relationships:
humor, respect, effort, and ease of communication with teacher (Wilkins, 2014). Past studies have
identified that teachers like to maintain a strictly professional relationship with students in order to
maintain discipline, to help students become responsible, and help build their maturity. Teachers
refused to invest effort into helping students that did not actively participate in the classroom.
Ironically, the research also revealed that teachers express a strong need to feel cared for by their
students. Inversely, teachers found it difficult to show positive emotions toward students that

In the struggle of everyday life, taking a somewhat small risk can sometimes feel like an

Patriotism In The Film Mr. Smith Goes To Washington
In the current political climate, anything said against the government is deemed unpatriotic by
certain areas of the culture. Patriotism is bandied about as a necessity by some, and derided
completely by others. But what is true patriotism, and how necessary is it? The film Mr. Smith
Goes to Washington, made in 1939, was originally condemned for being unpatriotic as it showed
the ugly side of American democratic politics at a time where democracies were falling all over
Europe. However, the film presents a different view of patriotismthat supports the most important
part of democracy; the people. Mr. Smith Goes to Washington clearly demonstrates the failures and
problems in American democracy, but paints protagonist Jefferson Smith as extremely patriotic,
illustrating that patriotism is not a blind stubborn belief that a country is right all of the time, but a
wholehearted passion for making said country a better place. This view of patriotism may have
seemed critical in 1939, but the movie effectively shows how the citizens really are the most
important part of a democracy, and how they can rail against political corruptionto truly create a
better country. When protagonist Jefferson Smith very suddenly becomes a US Senator, he is
portrayed as the perfect example of nominal patriotism. He has several speeches by Washington
and Lincoln memorized, is the leader of a group of what are basically Boy Scouts, and spends his
first day in Washington DC in awe of the monuments.

Discuss The Effect Of Molarity On The Mass Of Potato Cells
The Effect of Changing a Solution s Molarity on the Mass of Potato Cells Water balance between
cells and their surroundings is crucial to an organism s survival. Each cell has a membrane that
protects it and lets in necessary nutrients. However, not all molecules can pass through the
selectively permeable membrane, so cells engage in a process called osmosisto keep balance.
Osmosis is the diffusion of water molecules across a selectively permeable membrane. Although
some water passes through the membrane, the majority of water flowing in and out of cells is
transported through aquaporins. Aquaporins are proteins that act as channels for water transport
through the cell, and can be found in the cell membranes of many organisms; they can be found
anywhere from cells in bacteria to human cells! The aquaporins allow this rapid transport of water
by having hydrophobic residues within them, which causes water to flow freely through them as
there is no attraction. There are several types of aquaporins, and different types have a different
specificity based on their pore size and the amino acids they are composed of. When a cell is
placed in a hypotonic solution, or a solution that has a solute (something being dissolved)
concentrationlower than the cell, the water rushes through these aquaporins and the cell swells up
with water to create equilibrium when there are equal concentrations of molecules across a
membrane. On the other hand, when a cell is placed in a hypertonic

A Brief Note On Sociological Theory Development Of African...
Unit 9 DB 1
Appling Sociological Theory Development
Introduction
There have been many career criminals, but most of them have been Caucasian, so I decided to
see if we had any African male or female career criminals, and despite the myth that there are no
black serial killers, there are, but there are very few because, there are not a lot of agencies that
keep the statistics of the number of African American serial killerscompared with Caucasians.
Based on information received from a phone call to Sgt. Thomas from the Augusta, Richmond
County Sheriff department he explained to me that the FBI s National Center for the Analysis of
Violent Crime does not maintain statistics for serial killers, and they do not have any type of
national repository that can keep up let alone track the race or number of serial killers throughout
the U.S.
So, from my source of contact I am incline to believe that the FBIs has never been able to create a
nonspecific profile for a serial killer nor a set physiognomies that someone can examine or look
out for. Moreover, serial killers tend to span all racial groups. There are Asian, white, Hispanic,
and African American serial killers. Basically, the racial diversification of serial killers usually
mirrors that of the overall population.

Socrates s Theory Of Justice
In Plato s Republic, Socrates argues for the importance of living a just life. However, Glaucon
asks why any person favors the just life over an unjust one. Glaucon would like an answer
regarding this type of justice, and if it is good only for its results or good in itself. Socrates
argues that justice in the individual is the balance between sprit, reason, and desire (scc. 435a).
Socrates account of justice, displays a life in which a justice provides benefits not only for the
individual, but also society. In this case, Socrates account of justice, does not provide a sufficient
reason to be just. Socrates parallel of justice and health cannot answer Glaucon s request fully.
Therefore, without sufficiently proving the inherent good of justice his claim falls apart.
Socrates account of justice stems from Glaucon s arrangement of the three categories of goods:
inherently good, pleasurable, or both. Glaucon asks if there is any value in simply being a just
person, he comes to find that if a person can be unjust and get away with it then the unjust life is
better. The first of its three categories is meant for the things that are a kind of good we like for
its own sake (scc.357c) . The second category is for what s good as a result of their consequences
such as exercise for fitness and sex for pleasure and children. The highest category is for things that
are both good in themselves and because of their consequences. Continuing the challenge and
reinforcing his second

The employment relationship may be defined as the relationship between employer and employee
over the terms and conditions of employment (Loudoun, Mcphail amp; Wilkinson 2009). In
Australia, the industrial relations had become a big issue, so following the 24 November 2007
Federal election, the Rudd Labor Government began work on its promises to re shape Australia s
industrial relations system. (Riley amp; Sheldon 2008) However, some people think that the state

By now, it has been operated for eight years and prohibits the discrimination on the basis of age.
Recent research vindicates this prediction, demonstrating that women at all levels of management
still report gender discrimination as a barrier to their advancement in Australia (Metz amp; Moss
2008). The gender pay gap is also reflected in the low numbers of women in leadership positions
(Goward 2004). Therefore, the state enacted Sex Discrimination Act 1984 to assist the government
for this issue. Under the Sex Discrimination Act it is unlawful to discriminate on the basis of
gender, marital status, pregnancy and family responsibility (Loudoun, Mcphail amp; Wilkinson
2009).
Racial discrimination includes race, colour, belief and national or ethnic origin. Australia is a
multicultural country; a large number of people are from different countries. They have different
cultural background like language, race, colour, belief and so on. Therefore, the racial
discrimination has become one of the most serious discriminations in Australia. For prohibiting it,
Australia government legislate the Racial Discrimination Act 1975.

What Is The Character Of Sir Gawain And The Green Knight
In the poem, Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, Morgan le Fay only appears in the last two FITTs
and there is only a little description about her. However, she is actually the initiator of the whole
story: it was Morgan who sent Green Knight to Arthur s hall to put pride on trial and to test what
distinction and trust the Round Table deserves (2455 2458), and then Sir Agway s adventure
began. As we know, Morgan was always described as an antagonist to Arthur in the legends of King
Arthur. However, when Morgan tried to combat against Arthur, why did she choose to test him?
What was Morgan s purpose to test the knighthood spirit of the Round Table?
This key character, Morgan le Fay, was not fully developed in Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, but
we can still feel her envy, which was one of her possible motivations to set the test. Initially,
Morgan appeared as an ancient elder living in Hautdesert. She sat highest at the table with the lord
and was called as Morgan the Goddess by Bertilak. Obviously, Morgan enjoyed a high position in
the court. However, in spite of the marvelousness of the castle and her status, the court was located
in the deep woods and no one knew them, just as desert in its name Hautdesert might suggest. In
contrast, Court of Arthur was famous; not only they had the morality, but the Round Table was also
admired as an example of chivalry. Therefore, jealousy rose in Morgan s heart, and the target was
the knights and their reputation.

EU Case Study
The uncertainty surrounding how the United Kingdom (UK) will exit the European Union (EU)
has significantly impacted the business operations of all firms within the financial services sector
who operate within the EU Market. This can be seen through the recent actions of the larger
multinational banks, as many are alleged to be already be planning to relocate jobs outside of the
UK while also developing corporate operations in other EU nations (Barbaglia, 2017; Callanan
Sidders, 2017; Martin Finch, 2017; Treanor, 2017). There are fears amongst British financial
servicesfirms that a particularly harsh exit could see the UK be forced to operate under third
country status, which could place significant restrictions upon how these... Show more content on

This is primarily because of two reasons. Firstly, once outside the EU, a financial services firm
based in the UK would have to apply for a license for each EU nation (BBA, 2017). However,
this can be difficult as licenses are not available in multiple EU nations, and the licenses given
are only limited to one country at a time (BBA, 2017). Secondly, since no nations outside Europe
have equivalent provisions within their FTAs with the EU, many financial services firms from
non EEA nations have accessed the SEM through the UK (HM Treasury, 2016). Because of these
reasons, the UK government should attempt to re join the EFTA and EEA, as the passporting
system has been extended to cover financial services firms that are based in EEA nations (BBA,
2017). It is also argued that joining the EFTA and EEA would be beneficial for both the UK
government and their domestic businesses, as it would help create and facilitate new jobs while
also reducing the costs associated with EU trade (Randwyck, 2011).
However, there a number of hindrances that may limit the UK and the EU in achieving a
compromise where the UK would be allowed the join the EFTA and EEA. Currently, the most
relevant variable is the general election on the 8th of June and the different stances held by the

Sometimes, when I lie on my back in the solitude of my room and the carpet bristles my skin, the

Tanks in World War II Tanks were a major part of World War II. Many countries had their own
tanks which they used in different strategies during the war. These vehicles were invented long
before there was the technology of World War II. The Germans were known for their heavy class
tanks, while the Americans were recognized for their medium Sherman tanks. The Allied forces
would not have won World War II if it were not for their tanks. Armoured vehicles were first
introduced early on in time. The use of vehicles for fighting dates to the 2nd millennium bce, when

experienced a defeat that could not be recovered. If the Germans would have won this battle, they

armoured warfare which German commanders regarded as qualitatively different from the rest was
the Mark VI Tiger, which was not allotted to divisions but organized in independent battalions, kept
under central control and committed to crucial offensive and counter offensive missions (Keegan

used tanks very effectively throughout the war. In 1943 4 the USA produced 47,000 tanks, almost
all Shermans, while Germany produced 29,600 tanks and assault guns. Britain, in 1944, produced
only 5000 tanks. (Keegan 399). Their rule was that five shermans were needed to knock out one
German Panther. By producing this many tanks they were able to send in loads of them into the

the kings was overthrown and lead to the creation of Republican form of government (Morley,

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Cost Oriented Pricing
Avoid Pricing Mistakes
Pricing is too cost oriented. Companies do not take enough account of the overall market demand
and consumer psychology.
Prices are not revised often enough to take advantage of changed conditions in the marketplace.
Prices are set independently of the rest of the marketing plan.
Prices are not varied enough for different product items and market segments.
Prices are set to match or better a competitor without justification or analysis. Types Of Pricing
Strategies
The best strategy for you will depend on your firm, your product and your market. Remember that
you do not have to use just one of the strategies outlined above. Many firms, in fact, use more than
one approach and arrive at a price that represents a reasonable compromise between each of these
strategies. 1. Cost oriented pricing: Many firms set product prices largely on the basis of ... Show

Demand oriented pricing: One obvious disadvantage of at least the target pricing component of
cost based pricing is that sales volume is affected by price. What is missing is a demand function
showing how many units the firm could expect to sell at different prices. It is very difficult to
quantify how much a price increase or decrease will affect demand. This relationship is called the
price elasticity of demand and differs between products. Another approach to pricing is to work
backwards from the products perceived value to the buyer, rather than forward from costs. A
company develops a product for a particular target market with price, quality and service to match
the competition for that segment of the market. Having determined this demand oriented price, the
manufacturer then works out whether, allowing for costs, there is sufficient profit on the item to
make it worthwhile. There is no formula for working out sales volume at the demand price. This
figure has to be arrived at on the basis of experience and a conservative estimate of the market
share the product will

The English arrived in early 1607, but Pocahontas did not meet John Smith until that May (Her Life). The story starts off when one day while exploring the Chickahominy River, John Smith was captured by one of Powhatan s hunting parties (Ancient Origins). Powhatan was Pocahontas father and also the leader of the Indian tribes. As Smith tells it, he was brought in front of Chief Powhatan (Her Life). Two large stones were placed on the ground and Smith s head was forced upon the two large stones and a warrior raised a club to smash in Smith s brains (Her Life). • 4. Environmental Problems in El Salvador With a total land mass of just 8,124 square miles, El Salvador is the smallest country in Central America. Like many of its neighboring countries, it possesses very few natural resources. Since the nation s economy is based predominantly on agriculture, it s no surprise that its citizens often experience resource roller coasters . In addition, its long history of inappropriate land tenure and ownership practices date all the way back to colonialism. Even more strikingly, sixty percent of El Salvadors population is expected to live in the capital by 2010. As a result, El Salvador has to deal with continuing environmental problems. The fact that the nation lies along the Pacific Ring of fire doesn t help either, which subjects... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Despite receiving six feet of rainfall each year, most of the nation s water is highly contaminated. In fact, thousands are killed each year due to water contamination, many of whom are children. At the same time, most of the citizens of the nation cannot afford bottled water. After the twelve year civil war destroyed much of the country s infrastructure, poor areas became even poorer. Homes and water sources had been destroyed by militia during the war. After returning home, some citizens chose to hand dig wells in order to obtain drinking water. However, many others went to their nearest stream, river or pond to collect water. These unsafe and contaminated water sources caused many people to become ill with intestinal diseases. According to Ricardo Navarro, El Salvador s government has failed to protect its most precious resource: Farmers have cut down forests that used to store rain water. Ranchers have allowed their livestock to pollute rivers. Communities have put latrines too close to shallow wells. Others, such as Marisol Prima Ponza, who runs a government dispensary that tracks the health of 375 children in several communities, believe that things are improving. There have been fewer cases of diarrhea, she says. For example, from January to August of this year I have only recorded 17 cases. Ponza also added that these improvements are due to several projects that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Studying At New York University If you are going to be passionate about something, be passionate about learning. This belief that Knowledge is power has dawned on me from the very young age. My father who had struggled to impart good education early in his life, had to start working at a very young age of 17 but he never gave up on education. Today he holds 2 degrees of MA and MBA and still continues to do his PhD from a distant learning at the age of 54. I realized that to excel in life, it is essential to keep learning, and that work and learning are a continuum. I aspire to further my knowledge in the field of Information Systems from New York University. My immediate goal is to develop my potential by further improving my technical knowledge and skills through higher learning provided by a sustained period of graduate studies; followed by working in an organization that can positively utilize my abilities and help in overall economic and social development. I firmly believe that studying at New York University would help me apply my knowledge and create innovative technological solutions to solve socio economic problems. A structured environment will not only improve my skills but also hone my enthusiasm to affect the critical process of change that development entails. For an engineer it is utmost importance to become an erudite in his field. Management Information Systems gives me that path since it parallels with my previous education and the work experience that I gained for more than 2 years ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. 100 Life Expectancy Calculator I was surprised at how much education level, marital status, weight, blood pressure, and stress can affect a life expectance. According to the Living to 100 Life Expectancy Calculator, I am predicted to live to 93 years old. A 2015 National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine report said men born in 1930 could expect to reach about age 82 if their income put them in the top 20 percent of earners and they survived to age 50. And high earners born in 1960 are projected to live to 89 a sizable seven year gain in three decades (Henricks, 2018, para 9). Marital status can also play a part in determining longevity. Getting married is a good way to live longer at least that s what research says (Bushak, 2015, para 12). Having... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In general they suggest a lifestyle of moderation. However, a factor that they do mention that some cannot control is their genetics. Several people that are centenarians also had members of their families that lived long lives. Even though it is not certain a person will live to be a centenarian, maintaining a healthy body weight, exercising regularly, not smoking, and eating a healthy diet can all be contributing factors. Experts also agree that where a person lives, good diet, active lifestyle, and supportive family structure play a role in a person s longevity. It consists of a rough group of barbaric Muslims that are terrorizing the villages over the area. This group frequently kidnaps girls from well educated westernized villages to keep them from education because according to Sharia law, which is the Islamic religion, ladies should be illiterate, and should be stay at home moms, with their kids. • 8. Mary Rowlandson s Captivity Narrative Analysis Mary Rowlandson s captivity narrative was published anonymously by someone who wanted to protect Rowlandson as a woman author. Davis writes, the publisher claims credit for persuading this modest woman to allow publication of her private material and gives credibility to a work that would not be allowed to stand on its own because of its female author (58). While the publisher takes credit for getting Rowlandson to publish her captivity narrative, he also encourages the audience in the preface to accept the work of Rowlandson, a woman. He even reminds the audience that Rowlandson is the wife of a minister (Davis 58). By doing all of this, he is trying to make sure the audience does not discredit her work simply because it was written by a woman. It is important to understand the women s role in the Puritansociety. The Puritans believe that a woman is Christ s bride, husband s wife, a mother, and a good wife. Women in this time were required to obey and submit to men in authority, especially their husbands (Davis 54). This is idea of submitting to husbands is biblical. Ephesians 5: 22 24 states, Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord. For the husband is head of the wife ... Therefore, just as the church is subject to Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in everything (The Bible). Since the Puritans studied the scripture and followed, it is understandable why this is a Puritan belief. This idea of submitting is shown between Rowlandson and her Indian master. She is aware of the consequences and wants to be in favor with him; therefore, she used her Puritan ideology to gain favor (Davis 54). For example, in the ninth remove, Rowlandson writes, At last he told me if I would make another shirt, for a papoose not yet born, he would give me a knife, which he did when I had done it (280). In this passage, Rowlandson is submitting to her master by making another shirt in order to receive a knife from him. Overall, in her narrative, it is seen that Rowlandson stays true to the Puritan belief of women submitting to men, even though it is not her husband. Many Puritans saw this captivity as a punishment for sins similar to the forty years of wandering for the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Reflection Of Leadership And Leadership In The Honors College Throughout this semester, I learned so much and gained so much confidence in my ability to lead. I had never led through the Honors College before this semester nor had I ever felt so involved and included within the Honors College. Being an Honors Year One mentor has allowed me to grow in ways that I would have never grown if it was not for this experience. Through my experience, I have made friends, realized what all the Honors College has to offer and connect freshmen with others. I learned how I lead best, how to not always be the leader, what my strengths are and how to use them to their full potential, and what needs to happen differently next semester in hopes to improve the experience for the freshmen. I thought our mentor class was absolutely phenomenal. Tiffany continuously led us well and reigned us in well when we needed to get down to business. Her leadership, council, and example made a difference for me when leading my freshmen. She was also very encouraging, which was much needed. At the beginning, I was intimidated by Rebecca being in our class each week. However, the intimidation faded, and I quickly learned to appreciate her. She had many great suggestions as well as a great insight. I may be an extrovert, but on the first day of our mentor class, I was very intimidated and nervous. I had no earthly idea what to expect. However, as it is now the end of the semester, I am honestly sad the class had to come to an end. I learned so much from the other ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I debated with myself in regards to including this chapter because I am sure the content is considered inappropriate, shocking and/or offensive. However, without this chapter, my story would be incomplete. At first, I considered smoothing out the rough edges and reducing the intensity of the experience; but that just isn t how I roll. Keeping that in mind, I suggest fastening your seatbelt because this is going to be an extremely wild ride. For the faint of heart skip this chapter, but know you will be left always wanting to know what happened. I had heard veterans of the Nipa Hut describe what went on behind those closed doors and I am sure the look of amazement and confusion on my face made those storytellers quite happy. To be honest, more than anything else, I was filled with disbelief. I had pretty much decided that most of the stories were bullshit created during some fucked up misadventure. But being curious, and never wanting to doubt the words of a GI, I had to check it out. I knew there was no way that shit I was told was legal anywhere in the world; but we were in the Philippines, so anything was possible. One morning, while hanging out at the snack bar and drinking a few beers after our last mid shift, we discussed what kind of trouble we could get ourselves into. Then, someone mentioned a recent rumor circulating about a show at the Nipa Hut involving one of the performers engaging in fellatio with a caribou. These rumors were quickly met with disgust and emphatic responses of disbelief. My immediate thought was that bestiality had to be illegal, even in the PI. Seriously, the act sounded disgusting and gross; not to mention the fact that it was not at all natural, nor right. After much discussion and disbelief about the rumor Kirkman was spewing, we decided that the Nighthawks would have to further investigate. Intrinsic value refers to the value of a company, stock, currency or product determined through fundamental analysis without reference to its market value. It is ordinarily calculated by summing the discounted future income generated by the asset to obtain the present value. The economic business cycle of the world is its own living and breathing entity expanding and contracting with imprecise balances involving supply and demand. The year 1929 marked the beginning of the downward spiral of this delicate economic balance known as The Great Depressionof the United States of America. The economists who believed in the predominate state blamed the free market and the free marketers blamed the government for involving policy in an economic issue. Whatever theory one chooses to follow it is imperative to comprehend the various factors that caused the Great Depression in order to avoid the past from repeating itself through poor economic judgment. Bank Failures The first cause of the Great Depression under scrutiny is the analysis of the bank failures that occurred leading up to the depression. During its early stages, any bank that had a loan out to a stock market investor placed itself at a large risk. This coupled with bank runs, which are the liquidation of funds by bank members en masse, continued to make matters worse even for the stronger financial institutions. The government led by President Hoover decided to allow contraction to fall on profits instead of dividends as part of his monetary policy. The nation s firms followed this advice resulting in an initial drop in corporate profits. This drop created a domino effect resulting in plummeting firm securities, which manifested the decay of bank portfolios. Blinded by his own ambition, Hoover felt that he should pass a fiscal policy to show his faith in the American economy. Since there was a continuation of budget surpluses, his administration reduced the income tax rates, which ultimately led to a budget deficit. To remedy the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The unstable economy in the United States results in people losing their jobs quite often. In the book Offshore Drilling, the loss of job opportunity in the United States is explained this way: The high cost of energy is making it impossible for many U.S. companies to remain competitive here and is driving them to relocate their plants overseas. . . Plant relocations have been a major factor in the loss of nearly five million manufacturing jobs in the past 20 years. (Offshore) If platforms relocate overseas due to high costs, Americans lose a staggering amount of jobs at one time. He believes that athletes should not be the primary role models in a child s life. Instead parents, not athletes, entertainers or politicians, should claim the position of being a role model (Berlow 31). This statement not only speaks for itself, but it also poses an interesting question. If athletes themselves continue to declare themselves ineligible to be a role model, then why do people continually allow their children to admire these athletes for more than his /her sports abilities? At this point in time, the parents should know better. Parents would not allow their kids to admire some hoodlum on the street, but because sports are in a controlled atmosphere, they do not see the dangers in athletes being role models. • 17. Cicero s First Catilinarian Oration Essay Cicero s First Catilinarian Oration: A Rhetorical and Literary Analysis The pen is mightier than the sword. As a youth, I disagreed with this statement. How could a pen ever defeat a sword? Over time, I have come to understand how words and speech can influence generations more than just fear or force. Cicero s speeches are prime examples of how rhetoric is more powerful than military prowess or use of arms. His rhetoric influenced public policy and successive generations. Unlike Caesar and Pompey, he had no significant military command yet; his reputation was just as strong. Cicero s general objectives in the First Catilinarian Oration were to portray Catiline as a traitor, achieve support for an action against Catiline, and protect himself from any repercussions. To demonstrate this rhetoric I will analyze sections 3 and 4 from his First Catilinarian Oration. I have choses these sections because they best show how Cicero uses rhetoric to achieve his objective. In order to classify and understand Cicero s rhetoric, first I will define the kinds of speech and parts of rhetoric. Second, I will analyze his rhetoric by commenting on his chosen rhetorical techniques and topics. According to Aristotle, there are three kinds of speech: deliberative oratory, forensic oratory, and epideictic oratory. Cicero s First Catilinarian Oration falls mainly under the deliberative oratory category but, has elements of forensic and epideictic oratory. Deliberative oratory is any rhetoric ... Oppression Of Minority Groups In America America has always been labeled the melting pot and the land of the free, but when one is analyzing the history and social norms of the country, these statements are far from true. America has thrived through the oppression of minority groups and social pressure towards these groups to conform to the majority culture. In any historical sense, from the near extermination of Native Americans to the racial profiling of Muslim individuals after the 9/11 terrorist attacks, minority groups have always been the victims and have always been viewed as different if they do not assimilate into the typical American culture. Numerous works of literature have successfully displayed the struggles that minorities face when attempting to conform. Two works in particular, The Absolutely True Diary of a Part Time Indian by Alexie Sherman and When the Emperor Was Divine by Julie Otsuka, tell stories of two different minority groups: Native Americans living in the 21st century and Japanese Americans during World War II. While these stories are separated by several decades, it is clear that American culture has not changed, as each story exemplifies how difficult it truly is to leave old cultural norms behind in order to be accepted by the majority. World War II is often remembered for the terrible treatment of minority groups all across the globe. • 38. Patriotism In The Film Mr. Smith Goes To Washington In the current political climate, anything said against the government is deemed unpatriotic by certain areas of the culture. Patriotism is bandied about as a necessity by some, and derided completely by others. But what is true patriotism, and how necessary is it? The film Mr. Smith Goes to Washington, made in 1939, was originally condemned for being unpatriotic as it showed the ugly side of American democratic politics at a time where democracies were falling all over Europe. However, the film presents a different view of patriotismthat supports the most important part of democracy; the people. Mr. Smith Goes to Washington clearly demonstrates the failures and problems in American democracy, but paints protagonist Jefferson Smith as extremely patriotic, illustrating that patriotism is not a blind stubborn belief that a country is right all of the time, but a wholehearted passion for making said country a better place. This view of patriotism may have seemed critical in 1939, but the movie effectively shows how the citizens really are the most important part of a democracy, and how they can rail against political corruptionto truly create a better country. When protagonist Jefferson Smith very suddenly becomes a US Senator, he is portrayed as the perfect example of nominal patriotism. He has several speeches by Washington and Lincoln memorized, is the leader of a group of what are basically Boy Scouts, and spends his first day in Washington DC in awe of the monuments. ... • 39. Discuss The Effect Of Molarity On The Mass Of Potato Cells The Effect of Changing a Solution s Molarity on the Mass of Potato Cells Water balance between cells and their surroundings is crucial to an organism s survival. Each cell has a membrane that protects it and lets in necessary nutrients. However, not all molecules can pass through the selectively permeable membrane, so cells engage in a process called osmosisto keep balance. Osmosis is the diffusion of water molecules across a selectively permeable membrane. Although some water passes through the membrane, the majority of water flowing in and out of cells is transported through aquaporins. Aquaporins are proteins that act as channels for water transport through the cell, and can be found in the cell membranes of many organisms; they can be found anywhere from cells in bacteria to human cells! The aquaporins allow this rapid transport of water by having hydrophobic residues within them, which causes water to flow freely through them as there is no attraction. There are several types of aquaporins, and different types have a different specificity based on their pore size and the amino acids they are composed of. When a cell is placed in a hypotonic solution, or a solution that has a solute (something being dissolved) concentrationlower than the cell, the water rushes through these aquaporins and the cell swells up with water to create equilibrium when there are equal concentrations of molecules across a membrane. Based on information received from a phone call to Sgt. Thomas from the Augusta, Richmond County Sheriff department he explained to me that the FBI s National Center for the Analysis of Violent Crime does not maintain statistics for serial killers, and they do not have any type of national repository that can keep up let alone track the race or number of serial killers throughout the U.S. So, from my source of contact I am incline to believe that the FBIs has never been able to create a nonspecific profile for a serial killer nor a set physiognomies that someone can examine or look out for. Moreover, serial killers tend to span all racial groups. There are Asian, white, Hispanic, and African American serial killers. Glaucon would like an answer regarding this type of justice, and if it is good only for its results or good in itself. Socrates argues that justice in the individual is the balance between sprit, reason, and desire (scc. 435a). Socrates account of justice, displays a life in which a justice provides benefits not only for the individual, but also society. In this case, Socrates account of justice, does not provide a sufficient reason to be just. Socrates parallel of justice and health cannot answer Glaucon s request fully. Therefore, without sufficiently proving the inherent good of justice his claim falls apart. Glaucon asks if there is any value in simply being a just person, he comes to find that if a person can be unjust and get away with it then the unjust life is better. The first of its three categories is meant for the things that are a kind of good we like for its own sake (scc.357c) . What Is The Character Of Sir Gawain And The Green Knight In the poem, Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, Morgan le Fay only appears in the last two FITTs and there is only a little description about her. However, she is actually the initiator of the whole story: it was Morgan who sent Green Knight to Arthur s hall to put pride on trial and to test what distinction and trust the Round Table deserves (2455 2458), and then Sir Agway s adventure began. As we know, Morgan was always described as an antagonist to Arthur in the legends of King Arthur. However, when Morgan tried to combat against Arthur, why did she choose to test him? What was Morgan s purpose to test the knighthood spirit of the Round Table? This key character, Morgan le Fay, was not fully developed in Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, but we can still feel her envy, which was one of her possible motivations to set the test. Initially, Morgan appeared as an ancient elder living in Hautdesert. She sat highest at the table with the lord and was called as Morgan the Goddess by Bertilak. Obviously, Morgan enjoyed a high position in the court. However, in spite of the marvelousness of the castle and her status, the court was located in the deep woods and no one knew them, just as desert in its name Hautdesert might suggest. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is primarily because of two reasons. Firstly, once outside the EU, a financial services firm based in the UK would have to apply for a license for each EU nation (BBA, 2017). Secondly, since no nations outside Europe have equivalent provisions within their FTAs with the EU, many financial services firms from non EEA nations have accessed the SEM through the UK (HM Treasury, 2016). Because of these reasons, the UK government should attempt to re join the EFTA and EEA, as the passporting system has been extended to cover financial services firms that are based in EEA nations (BBA, 2017). It is also argued that joining the EFTA and EEA would be beneficial for both the UK government and their domestic businesses, as it would help create and facilitate new jobs while also reducing the costs associated with EU trade (Randwyck, 2011). Another approach to pricing is to work backwards from the products perceived value to the buyer, rather than forward from costs. A company develops a product for a particular target market with price, quality and service to match the competition for that segment of the market. Having determined this demand oriented price, the manufacturer then works out whether, allowing for costs, there is sufficient profit on the item to make it worthwhile. There is no formula for working out sales volume at the demand price. This figure has to be arrived at on the basis of experience and a conservative estimate of the market share the product will ...
