Measure By Shakespeare
Mia, I like what you had to say about the relationship between justice and mercy. I agree that
Shakespeare expresses a need for balance between justice and mercy. The only problem with that is
that Measure for Measure displays no real justice, only talks about it. The various characters of the
play solicit for a symbolistic balance, yet live their lives in uneven measures. Justice seems to be an
important theme of Measure for Measure yet its apparent absence found me wanting by the end of the
play. Measure for Measure attempts to examine the difference between justice with and without mercy
and the harmonious balance of both. This topic is of great importance during the time this play was
written because the means of punishment frequently

This unique era transformed and continues to transform Canada through occurrences such as the Great
Canadian Flag Debate, the Quiet Revolution and through the occurrence known as Trudeaumania. No
other decade has transformed Canada quite like the Sixties, it is due this that the Sixties is the most
significant decade in Canada s vast history in terms of transforming or changing the country.
The historical occurrence known as the Great Canadian Flag Debate brought major changes to
Canada. Prior to Canada adopting its current sovereign state flag, a number of big events encouraged
Canadians to think about what it meant to be a Canadian, Canadians began to question their flag, they
wondered if their flag truly represented what it meant to be a Canadian, many people wanted a new
flag of Canada as they felt that their flag did not truly represent what it meant to be a Canadian. In the
year 1958, an extensive poll was taken in Canada, it related to the attitudes that adult Canadians had
towards the flag of their country; of those who expressed opinions, over 80% wanted a sovereign state
flag entirely different from that of any other country, and 60% wanted a sovereign state flag that
would showcase their beloved maple leaf. Some people liked this idea of adopting a new sovereign
state flag as they wanted their flag to be uniquely Canadian, however some people did not like the idea
as they were content with the flag that they had,

Differentiation as a Strategy to Reach English Language...
Review of Literature Every student has their own story, set of experiences, and abilities. Overtime,
teachers have quickly realized that they cannot reach all students with a one size fits all approach to
instruction. Therefore, the goal of a differentiated classroom is to maximize growth and individual
success of each student by providing different avenues for the students to learn the content, to process
the information and ideas, and to create a final product. Differentiating instruction needs to be a daily
component of my planning and teaching. Some of students need to be challenged with opportunities to
expand their mind with advanced learning activities. Other students need extra scaffolding and support
in order to understand the basic concepts of the course. Differentiation can be an extremely effective
instruction strategy for teachers as they work to meet the needs of English Language Learners.
Chamot O Malley (1994) explored how differentiation can best be used when instructing ELL s. They
examined direct language instruction, culturally inclusive environments, and differentiation. When
differentiating or modifying instruction teachers it is helpful if teachers activate or build background
knowledge, provide scaffolding, include authentic experiences, and simplify language. Regardless of
the subject area, teachers need to take a unified stance in regards to identifying and working to support
a student s language needs. Establishing a

Comparison Of Hamlet s Rosencrantz And Guildenstern Are Dead
Although both Hamlet and Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead deal with a similar story and
themes, both approach it differently. The themes that are present in both texts, identity and the
willingness whether or not to act; they are brought forth using the same literary elements, such as
setting, point of view, and the uses of character interactions and dialogue. However, the ways each
element is used and how the story is told in both Hamlet and Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead
is different from each other, as Hamlet takes a tragic turn and Rosencrantz and Guildenstern goes into
the absurd and existential.

Insight to Hamlet s identity is given through the use of soliloquies and monologues. As Hamlet
progresses, his thoughts and beliefs about avenging his father s death are shown and stated by using
soliloquies, asides, and monologues, one of which being the famed To be or not to be speech
(Shakespeare III, i, 64 95). These moments of Hamlet s dialogue, especially that infamous soliloquy,
reveal his true identity as one who is teetering between deciding whether or not to avenge his father s
death.
On the other hand, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern frequently uses dialogue between the two title
characters. With this dialogue they are able to work out their identities, from figuring out who they are
(Stoppard I, 22) to trying to figure out if it is worth it to change fate because their ...movement is
contained within a larger one... (Stoppard III, 122). In both plays, speech is used to help develop
characters identities, while Hamlet relies on one person, Hamlet, to develop his identity, although
Rosencrantz and Guildenstern use dialogue between the two protagonists to reveal their individual

young man in a nice house, with no need or want for adventure. An old man named Gandalf comes
and talks to him about adventure, to which Bilbo declines. So the Gandalf put a marking on his door.
The next day thirteen dwarves come to his house and start to make themselves at home uninvited, and
then they begin to speak of adventure. So this where Bilbo decides to go for an adventure. Bilbo has
been known for not being very adventurous, he always stayed at home. So he embarks on the journey,

Security Controls And The Utilization Of Technical And...
3.4.1 Control Methods
Security controls include the utilization of technical and nontechnical strategies (NIST, 2002).
Technical controls are protections that are consolidated into PC hardware, programming, or firmware
such as access control mechanisms, ID, encryption techniques and intrusion detection program or
software). Nontechnical controls on the other hand are administration and operational controls that
includes security approaches; operational methodology; and physical and environmental security
NIST, 2002). SunTrust Bank should implement technical controls with respect to how information and
data are being encrypted, what program is being utilized to identify any intrusion to their network and
system and how customers/clients are being verified. Concerning nontechnical control, SunTrust
administration should provide appropriate security controls for every resources and assets in the

3.4.2 Control Categories
NIST classified both technical and nontechnical control techniques as either preventive or detective.
Preventive controls restrain attempts by the attackers to damage security strategy and policy such as
access control authorization, encryption, and validation (NIST, 2002). Detective controls, however,
should caution of violation or attempted violations of security such as audit trails, intrusion detection

What Is The Purpose Of The Narrative Once Upon A Time
Humans tell stories to themselves and others as a means of making sense of their world and as a way
to promote learning and spread information, or to simply entertain themselves. Completed stories
show evidence of two main parts: an underlying structure
(how the story is organized) that contains the story s intrinsic meaning and, then, there is a lesser
meaning, which is the way the story s structure is presented in the words and symbols, including
metaphors. Although the events that compose a story (plot) may not happen in a sequential order, it is
important for people or a culture to create a story in such a way that it will construct their reality and
give meaning to their subjective experience. Thus, The Narrative ... Show more content on

Once upon a time there was an evening where the winds were strong and the streets were lonely and a
mother attempted to put her new infant to sleep. Soon after leaving the nursery, there was a sudden
upheaval in the household coming out of the baby s room. The mother was puzzled and alarmed by
her infant s outcry. Needing to soothe her baby, the mother took her child to the closest pharmacy that
was open 24hours a day. When they arrived, mother stumbled upon a young man who was wise, way
before his age. With ease, he guided the frantic mother into a long aisle. There, the anguished mother
found herself unable to make sense of what was around her because there was just so much from
which to choose and far too many aisles to wander through with a crying child. Once again, the man
diligently directed her, this time to an unknown product. The wise man, faded into the background, as
the mother stepped forward and looked with doubt and curiosity at this strange and mysterious
product. The mom s eyes settle on a visual metaphor that she found on this obscure product. The
mother saw on the blue box a female figure holding an infant in her arms, while she gracefully held
the infant s head with the palm of her right hand. The tired mother noticed that the female figure
pictured on the box was blissfully looking at the sleeping

Essay On Nick Gatsby
In the article The Trouble with Nick: Reading Gatsby Closely, Scott Donaldson argues that Nick
Carraway is a snob (98). Donaldson cites Carraway s intolerance toward those who do not know how
to act, Carraway s conflicting feelings about Gatsby, and Carraway s obsession with social propriety
as manifestations of his snobbery. According to Donaldson, a final revelation of Carraway s aloof
attitude is his static personality, a personality that refuses to learn from the experiences of others.
However, Scott Donaldson s argument is incorrect; Nick Carraway is not a snob. In F. Scott Fitzgerald
s The Great Gatsby, Nick Carraway is an unpretentious man who exemplifies tolerance and respect
and learns from his experiences. Nick Carraway exhibits ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Donaldson argues that by insisting on having been invited to Gatsby s party and in attempting to thank
Gatsby for inviting him to a party, Carraway appears rather ridiculous and is overly formal and
pretentious (101). Donaldson explains that Carraway s obsession with social rules reveals his
snobbery. Once again, Donaldson is incorrect; Carraway s actions are signs of respect, not of
ridiculous pretentiousness. Carraway does not attend one of Gatsby s parties until Gatsby formally
invites him. Waiting to attend a party is a sign of respect, not aloofness. By waiting for a formal
invitation to attend Gatsby s party, Carraway reveals his respect for Gatsby s privacy and home.
Additionally, Carraway spends the majority of his first party attempting to find Gatsby and thank him
for his hospitality. Again, Carraway s actions are polite and demonstrate respect for Gatsby. Instead of
rudely ignoring his host as so many of his fellow guests do, Carraway attempts to politely thank
Gatsby for his hospitality, illustrating his respect for Gatsby. Hence, Nick Carraway exhibits
reasonable social decorum and exemplifies respect, not arrogance, in his interactions with

What do you think of when you hear the name Ireland? Ireland is a relatively small island off the coast
of Great Britain with a land area of 32,424 square miles (Delaney 2). There are several things that you
may associate with this country such as St. Patrick s Day, shamrocks, beer, and strife. The source of
the bitterness behind this conflict began centuries ago, when Britain came over and forced
Protestantism on the Irish Catholic inhabitants. For this reason there has always been an animosity
between the Protestants and the Irish Catholics. The island is broken up into two distinct regions. The

This event gave the Catholics yet another reason to dislike the Unionists.
The Unionists also used crooked politics to ensure Protestant control. One way of doing this was by
gerrymandering the political district lines. For example, one ward was ninety percent Catholic while
the rest of the Catholics were scattered about in Protestant wards (Golway 280). By dividing the
districts this way it made the Catholic votes virtually meaningless. Then, the Protestant controlled
government passed the Civil Authorities Act. This Act granted the government the right to search
homes without a warrant, impose curfews, and randomly arrest citizens even if no real crime had been
committed. The Catholics were the ones who were primarily oppressed by these laws. Other laws
limited the education of Catholics, restricted them from holding office, and they were also
discriminated against on the job. Protestants filled many of the positions leaving the Catholics jobless
(Golway 280). This policy of discrimination helped inflate the already high poverty rate in Ire that
they could feed their family, they also had to worry about curfews and being arrested for no apparent
reason. This is not right. The government should not be allowed to pass laws that would help single
out a certain minority. This is an example of how propaganda can be used in politics.

Human Relations And Police Public Relations
Human relations deals with everything that is being accomplished with other human beings with all
kinds of relationships involved. But according to dictionary.com, the definition is a study of group
behavior for the purpose of improving interpersonal relationships, as among employees. An example
of human relations is something all people have been taught when they were younger and that is to
treat people exactly how you want to be treated. Which basically means to build a strong relationship
whether it is good or if it is bad. So if police officers want respect from everyday society they have to
try and respect society as well. Public relations is defined as activities performed by police agencies
designed to create a favorable image of themselves. An example of police public relations is where a
police department will have an even where the community can get involved and experience the police
life. Police community relations is the interaction or tension between the public and the department.
An example of community relations could be when police officers show up to high school basketball
game and give support to the community that they are familiar with showing that they are community
oriented and care about what they do for their community.

Some Myths About Stone Cleaning Project
There are a number of myths about stone restoration. It is important that individuals are well informed
when approaching any stone cleaning project. The following content works to investigate detail that
will leave you assured that you are up to date with the required information.
Myth 1 states that vinegar will clean and disinfect any surface. Stones such as marble, travertine,
terrazzo, limestone and even some granite will etch when they come into contact with acids such as
vinegar. These marks are in fact chemical burns when alcohol, ammonia, or acid comes into contact
with the surface of the stone. It appears that the finish or shine has been removed from the surface of
the stone and these marks cannot simply be cleaned off. The stone needs to be re honed or re polished.
Myth 2 is that there is no reason to seal marble if sealing does not protect against acids. Sealers will
not stop acids, ammonia, or alcohol, but it is still recommended to seal stone with a penetrating sealer
annually. Sealers are great against oil, grease, coffee, tea, etc. Sealers stop non acid liquids and oil
from penetrating into the stone and prevent dark staining, which is important around areas such as ...

marble, travertine, or limestone floor it is often thought that just that area needs cleaning. However,
when a surface is restored, the stone is thoroughly cleaned then re polished or re honed. If only the
four tiles in the middle of the floor are restored, those four tiles may not match the rest of the floor. It
is difficult to blend those four tiles to the rest of the floor, especially because the entire floor most
likely has some embedded dirt, light scratches, and small etch marks as well. The whole area needs

The technological requirements for achieving AI at the level of the human mind may be on the near
horizon; they may also have already been surpassed. But AI is certainly more than a novelty research
in AI is not just for the sake of creating human like automatons. There are many potential applications
of AI that could revolutionize how human beings interact with computers. So much of how people live
their lives has changed since the commercialization of the computer. Every man, woman, and child
seems to have a smart phone these days, and there isn t a job out there that doesn t require some
proficiency in computer use. Imagine then, the impact of AI on society and the economic landscape.
Not only would computers process data extremely fast, but they would possess the same intelligence
as human beings. One application in particular is poised to have an enormous effect on one of the
biggest industries in the United States and abroad: health care. The same technology that Watson used
to win Jeopardy can be used to process all kinds of unstructured information. Medical diagnostics are
based on research, records, and personal experience. AI could be used to scan through this information
with incredible speed and accuracy, resulting in well founded diagnoses without ever entering the

Short Story Of Jacoma Portman
Jacob Portman s grandpa was probably the most interesting person in his life. Grandpa Portman would
always regale Jacob with stories about his life in an orphanage. However, that wasn t the most
interesting part. This orphanage was home to many peculiar children. Some of these children could lift
massive boulders, while others could fly, make instant fireballs, or were even invisible. Grandpa
Portman stated that with the help of all these peculiar children, they would defeat monsters. For a six
year old, these stories sounded pretty believable, especially because Grandpa Portman had photos.
However, as he grew older, Jacob stopped believing these far fetched tales. The photos were obviously
some kind of photoshop and according to Jacob s dad, the monsters were people that took all of his

The Role Of The Witches In Macbeth
In the play Macbeth the three witches managed to change the future to what they had predicted. Other
types of fantasy also played a role in making the tragic ending. These sorts of witchcraft or in other
words magic made the play what it is and conveyed character such as Macbeth to do and think of
certain things.
The witches played a huge role in the story of Macbeth and made him become who he ends up as.
Macbeth was a very honorable knight that served king Duncan till his last breath. He did not have any
distinguishing aspirations or greed. The three witches interfere in this with their so called prophecies
that would soon lead the unknowing Macbeth to his future demise. The witches foretold that Macbeth

The dagger that Macbeth saw before wondering weather to kill Duncan or not became his hope that
made him commit the deed. Macbeth was struggling to understand if he could kill the king so that he
could become king himself. At the time of confliction a ghostly dagger appeared before him. This
dagger was made into his hope and his reason to kill Duncan. He used this unreal delusion as his
backup that would get him to commit Duncan s murder. Another example of delusional fantasy
messing with Macbeth was the undead so called ghost of Banquo. After Macbeth had ordered the
assassination of his friend in order to preserve his role of king Macbeth had clearly suffered from
massive amounts of guild. This guild that was hidden deep inside of him made him see a delusional
image of a bloody Banquo. This made the calm Macbeth lose his cool and make the other people of
his castle wonder if he had killed Banquo. These acts of insanity from seeing unreal objects and
people led macbeth to commit murder and ruin his own image of a worthy king. This is relatable to a
person mistaking a mirage to be real. In desserts people arse so overcome with dehydration that they

1. List and briefly describe the advantages and disadvantages inherent to the food truck business
model and as compared to traditional restaurants.
Food trucks have exploded into mainstream American cuisine. Once thought of as a cheap meal
available at odd times of the night, street food has become a vehicle for chefs on the rise to make their
mark on the food industry. Operating a food truck may seem like an easy task, but it can turn out to be
a tremendous undertaking and risky financial venture. Operators must be prepared to lose money, to
manage fixed costs, and to do constant forecasting in order to determine how much food to prepare.
The advantages and disadvantages are numerous, but we will proceed to name a few.

Food truck operators also hire smaller staffs, and are less exposed to risk.
Disadvantages include the mere appearance of reduced responsibility to its customers. As written in
The Economist s article Moveable Feasts; Food Trucks, ...businesses that sell food are suspect. And
what could be more suspicious than an outlet that sells food and then drives away before customers
expire? This may be a bit of a satirical take, but the sentiment of fear is real. While a restaurant would
be punished with poor reviews and possibly a lawsuit following a case of food poisoning, a food truck
is seen as operating with impunity. If confronted by dissatisfied customers, the operator will simply
find a different locale. They are pejoratively referred to as roach coaches, echoing the sentiment that
their offerings are of low quality, unsafe, and should not be consumed. Brick and mortar restaurants
are subject to inspections that food trucks are not, bolstering the doubts of skeptical diners. According
to The Economist, food truck operators are typically required to cook their food in inspected
commercial kitchens ( Moveable Feasts ). This is an added operational cost, but it can possibly be
mitigated by having the chef s private cooking area inspected by the relevant authorities. As expected,
food truck operators have triggered the ire of local restaurant owners with whom they directly
compete. Local restaurateurs argue that, food

Key Words: Syllable Division. Theories. Syllable Structure Introduction
The syllable is a basic unit of speech studied on both the phonetic and phonological levels of analysis.
For learners of English as a foreign language it is such a hard task to define and identify what a
syllable is, even because there are no universally agreed upon phonetic definitions of what it is. So ...

However, the sonority scale, like all the approaches outlined above, is of little help when it comes to
delimiting separate syllables.
Syllable structure
Hierarchical Structure of the Syllable
Most of modern phonological theories agree that the syllable has constituent or hierarchical rather
than linear structure. The syllable (conventionally marked as small Greek sigma: #963;) has two
immediate constituents (it branches into two elements, to put it in another way) – the Onset (O),
which includes any consonants that precede the nuclear element (the vowel), and the Rhyme (R),
which includes the nuclear element (the vowel) as well as any marginal elements (consonants) that
might follow it. The Rhyme, in turn, branches into Peak (P), also known as Nucleus (N), and Coda
(Co). The Peak (Nucleus), as the designation suggests, represents the nuclear or most sonorous

Six Decisions That Will Change Your Life
Six Decisions that Will Change Your Life: Mature
John 4:7 15
This week is the third week of our sermon series that accompanies our small group series based on
Tom Berlin s book 6 Decisions That Will Change Your Life. While we all make many decisions each
day, these are 6 monumental decisions of our Christian journey. The first week we heard about the
Decision to Follow, and last week it was the Decision for a New Life. This week we will discover
what it means to make the Decision to Mature. Let us pray and begin. Prayer. Our scripture reading
this morning opens with a Samaritan woman, Jesus, and a well. When this woman approaches the
well, Jesus asks for her to give him a drink. At this request the woman is taken aback. It was
unprecedented for a Jewish man to be asking her for anything. First of all, this woman was a
Samaritan. The Samaritans and the Jews schismed after disagreeing on the proper place of worship. A
feud that even scripture felt the need to clarify by explaining in verse 9 Jews do not share things in
common with Samaritans. Second, she was meeting Jesus at the well alone. Which alludes to her
being unclean, or impure, in some way that would prevent her from getting water when all of the other
women do. Jesus approaching HER at all is startling to her, if not utterly confusing. Yet still, Jesus
persists, saying if you only knew who I am and the gift that is before you. If you only knew, then you
would ask for a drink and be given living water. And the

The use of distinctively visual images allows an audience to perceive and distinguish the composer s
specific representation. From these distinctive visuals, the audience s perceptions force them to
respond in a particular way. In Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon , Ang Lee utilises a range of film
techniques to position his audience through a combination of quiet, dramatic scenes and
choreographed action sequences. In his painting, Third of May, 1808 Fransisco Goya conveys

The Basic Achievements Of The Human Race
The language is one of the fundamental achievements of the human race. Its role in the appropriation
of culture and incorporation of the individual to society, is a key instrument of the educational process.
Its essence is to express ideas, needs, experiences and feelings through the written and spoken word,
gestures, attitudes and behaviors. It is precisely through language that the child is inserted in the world
and they are different from it. As in development go by an individual and affective function to fulfil an
eminently social and cognitive function. Through both oral and written language, the children can
express their feelings and explain their reactions to others, know different points of view and learn
values and norms. They can also direct and reorganize their thoughts, control their behavior. Thus,
favoring an increasingly conscious learning.
If we stop to observe young children, we will realize that their behavior is guided by curiosity. They
want to discover everything that surrounds them. Children are like sponges that absorbing all the
information that they receive and will accompany them for the rest of their life. As teachers, a strategy
that can be used to promote the skills that will help them to build a good foundation for the
communication and language, is to be aware of items that capture their curiosity, attention, and to
syntonize with them (Promote the language according to the interests of the child). Both parents and
teachers can take advantage

War Against Terror and Human Rights Essay

The Human Rights Act 1998 took full legal effect across the English and Welsh legal systems on

A victim includes anyone directly affected by the actions or non actions of one of the above public
authorities. Whilst this directly affected principle is absolute, a victim can also include someone not
necessarily directly affected by the actions of a public body, but indirectly affected. For instance, a
person who is likely to be put under surveillance by the police will be able to call upon the Human
Rights Act, even though they have not yet had their privacy interfered with.
Where it is established that a Convention Right has been violated, the victim may be able to gain an
injunction to stop the violation, force the public authority to take action, take judicial review
proceedings or obtain damages and compensation.
The Human Rights Act affects the different types of legislation in a number of ways. Primary
legislation, which is Parliamentary Statute, the most sacred type of English law, has to be bought into
accordance with the Convention Rights. If primary legislation does not comply with the Convention
Rights then a Declaration of Incompatibility is issued. This can only be given by the higher courts and
allows the offending legislation to be changed and put inline with the Convention Rights easily and
quickly. If a statement is not issued, then the case proceeds to the European Court of Human Rights.

Comparably, in Bernice Bobs Her Hair this problem also lies great since the entirety of its story
Fitzgerald writes in third person. Third person provides an impeccable description of every situation,
however, without shifting to any other point of view, Fitzgerald disadvantages the reader in obtaining
a more personal view of one of the main characters. For example, at the time where Bernice is about
to cut off her cousin Marjorie s hair it states, She was by the bedside now, very deliberate and calm.
She acted swiftly. Bending over she found one of the braids of Marjorie s hair, followed it up with her
hand to the point nearest the head, and then holding it a little slack so that the sleeper would feel no
pull, she reached down with the shears and severed it. Without the use of first or second person, the
reader lacks in attaining Bernice s thoughts leading up to her drastic action and cutting off Marjorie s
hair. Overall, through both stories use of one main point of view, reader s lack attaining a different
perspective of Fitzgerald s Bernice Bobs Her Hair and Cisneros Eleven.
Second, Bernice Bobs Her Hair more effectively uses narration in its story since Fitzgerald uses an
omniscient narrative presence so that the reader can get a glimpse of all the characters thoughts and
feelings. This overall better use of narration reoccurs throughout the book such as at the time that
Rachel asks Charley s opinion whether or not she should bob her hair by

Summary Of Faint Hints Of Tranquility
Reflecting on all the stories I have read in class so far, I would have to say that my two favorite pieces
of literature are, Faint Hints of Tranquility, by Adania Shibi and, The Uses of English, by Akinwumi
Isola. Faint Hints of Tranquility, is a mind challenging story with its many moments of symbolism
throughout. For instance, when the Israeli reporter goes to talk with a Palestinian woman in the
Balatah refugee camp, Shibi teaches the reader about how respect looks in her culture. While the
reporter talks with the woman, she accidently steps on the woman s headscarf and she feels beyond
embarrassed about her action; as a reader, you can tell she has a little panic attack at this moment.
Before reading this piece, I didn t know that in many Middle Eastern countries touching an object or a
person with human feet is one the worst insults. Another example of symbolism, would be when the
reporter changes her password to Arafat. Arafat is the name of a Palestinian leader who was a
chairman for the Palestinian Liberation Organization. The reporter throughout the story shows that she
is suffering from PTSD and her changing her password is a way she wants to remind herself she needs
to continue fighting for what she believes in. Even the way the book is organized gives the story more
meaning. Through the voice of the story it can be inferred the protagonist is suffering through PTSD,
but the fact that her journal entries are all out of order gives the reader more insight

Fidel Castro, President Of Cuba
Fidel Castro, President of Cuba, was one of the inspiring forces of the Cuban Revolution. Guided by
the philosophies of his Jesuit education and experiences at his father s sugar plantation, Castro
developed a fundamentally strong view on an independent Cuba, identifying himself with the common
folk. On July 26th, Castro led the attack on the Moncada Barracks in order to take over enemy
transmitters. However, a lack of planning and poor miscommunication on Castro s side led to a severe
defeat, leading to Castro s capture. Although Castro let out on a technicality, President Batista chose to
publicize Castro s trial as well as his History Will Absolve Me speech. In his speech, Castro advocated
for reforms in the country s political structure advocating for establishment of the 1940 Constitution
and focusing on the collective society, not an individual force. Outlining the five laws needed to create
a revolution, Castro related to his fellow Cuban revolutionaries through various literary techniques
such as use of rhetoric and references to Cuba s agricultural history.
One of the underlying themes in Castro s speech was his ability to underscore that there was a
fundamental problem in Cuba s economy. In a time when the United States had recently come out of
its own economic recession and was industrializing, foreign threats severely undermined Cuba s
ability to gain economic autonomy. As Castro keenly pointed out, 85% of small farmers in Cuba pay

How Does Thomas Hobbes Use Fear In The Leviathan
In Leviathan, Thomas Hobbes defines fear as aversion with opinion of hurt from the object (30). This
aversion that humans experience plays a fundamental role in Hobbes understanding of humanity and
society. More specifically, in the state of nature the fear of death sustains a constant state of war that
motivates men to seek peace under a common power called the Leviathan. However, the function of
fear in the Leviathan differs from its function in the state of nature, in that men in the Leviathan
maintain peace not only out of fear of other men, but also out of fear of the common power. This
understanding of fear mirrors Machiavelli s as outlined in The Prince, in which Machiavelli contends
that leaders should use fear to secure their subjects ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The reason for this discrepancy is that desire for power and fear of death balance each other out in the
Leviathan. More precisely, Hobbes describes men as having a perpetual and restless desire of power
after power, that ceaseth only in death and a fear of oppression that disposes them to seek aid by
society because there is no other way by which a man can secure his life and liberty (58 59). Hobbes
illustrates how in men, the desire for power and the fear of death are in a tug of war contest, and men
ultimately find the most benefit within the Leviathan. The Leviathan acquires power because the fear
of death authorizes it to, since the Leviathan controls the life and liberty of the people (127). Hobbes
elaborates that men who choose their sovereign do it for fear of one another and that they subject
themselves to him they are afraid of (127). Essentially, Hobbes postulates that the fear of the state of
nature, in which men live in constant war, has a stronger influence upon men than does the fear of the

Reflective Essay On Sonography
On Friday October 20th, I went to CDI south to shadow a sonographer. During this time, I got to sit
closely to my mentor Tanya, and watch her complete ultrasounds on patients, and learn a lot more
about the job. I was not able to do anything job related during this time, for many safety reasons, but I
was able to sit right next to Tanya as she completed many different ultrasounds. During this
shadowing session, we saw a total of 5 patients. Before every ultrasound, you have to prepare the
room for the patient by putting a sheet on the bed, putting a pillow cover on the pillow, and retrieving
towels for the patient after the ultrasound is over. The sonographers also have to prep the ultrasound
machine, and read over the patient s report and information to ensure they know the background of the
patient before they come in. The sonographer will then go out to the waiting room to grab the patient,
and bring them into the room, ask them certain questions about their medical conditions and
ultrasound, and then they will give the patient instructions and preform the ultrasound. The first
patient was a middle aged woman, and she came into CDI to receive a pelvic ultrasound to look at her
ovaries, kidneys, bladder, and other organs in this area. During this time, I got to see the patient s
ovaries and bladder within the ultrasound. The sonographer will be looking to make sure there isn t
anything unusual within the ultrasound, and make sure the systems are operating properly. We did

Hplc Determination Of Caffeine On Analgesic Powders
CHE 333 03 11/21/16 Formal Report HPLC Determination of Caffeine in Analgesic Powders
ABSTRACT: Components containing caffeine were composed into stock solutions. These solutions
were diluted to 1: 10 substance: mobile phase. A stock solution of caffeine was diluted 1:50. A
sequence of diluted caffeine solutions were prepared for use as a standard (ppm): 1, 2, 4, and 10.
Solutions of acetaminophen, acetylsalicylic acid, and Goody s Powder were developed to differentiate
chromatographic peaks observed. These solutions were subjected to HPLC for examination of the
observed peak area and retention time for the set of compounds. Comparison of retention time allowed
for the differentiation of peaks observed. The peak area obtained was utilized to determine the relative
concentration of caffeine present in Goody s Powder based on the relationship obtained in the
standard. The content of caffeine present in Goody s Powder by percent weight was identified.
INTRODUCTION: The separation of molecular particulates from any mixture may involve any
combination of the relative chemical, electrostatic, and mechanical properties composing each
component contained therein. Typically this mixture may exist as a liquid solution or gaseous species.
The respective interactions of each particulate depend on the surrounding conditions to which the
solution is subjected. A solvent is utilized to dissolute the mixture such that it may pass through a
separation chamber that contains

Poverty Of South Carolina Is An Issue For All Citizens Essay
Poverty in South Carolina is an issue for all citizens. The issue is particularly acute if you are a citizen
living in poverty, but the issue is of critical importance to those citizens that must support those areas

corridor in which certain counties struggle much more than others long I95. Allendale County stands
out even amongst its peers as a county that is struggling to address multigenerational poverty. This
paper deals with Allendale County poverty after offering insight into poverty in general within South
Carolina.
Persistent Poverty in South Carolina
Poverty within the United States is defined as having an income below a federally determined poverty
threshold. Poverty thresholds were developed by the United States government in the 60s to
benchmark levels of subsistence. Over time these thresholds are often adjusted to account for
inflation; it is now typical for the federal government to adjust the poverty threshold levels annually.
Poverty levels represent the government s estimate of the point below which a family has insufficient
resources to meet their basic needs. Any family with less income than the established poverty amount
is officially classified as poor or as living in poverty. Income as defined by the federal rules can
include cash and cash welfare assistance, but excludes any in kind welfare assistance. There are

Justice seems to be an important theme of Measure for Measure yet its apparent absence found me wanting by the end of the play. Measure for Measure attempts to examine the difference between justice with and without mercy and the harmonious balance of both. This topic is of great importance during the time this play was written because the means of punishment frequently ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Overtime, teachers have quickly realized that they cannot reach all students with a one size fits all approach to instruction. Therefore, the goal of a differentiated classroom is to maximize growth and individual success of each student by providing different avenues for the students to learn the content, to process the information and ideas, and to create a final product. Differentiating instruction needs to be a daily component of my planning and teaching. Some of students need to be challenged with opportunities to expand their mind with advanced learning activities. Other students need extra scaffolding and support in order to understand the basic concepts of the course. Differentiation can be an extremely effective instruction strategy for teachers as they work to meet the needs of English Language Learners. Chamot O Malley (1994) explored how differentiation can best be used when instructing ELL s. They examined direct language instruction, culturally inclusive environments, and differentiation. When differentiating or modifying instruction teachers it is helpful if teachers activate or build background knowledge, provide scaffolding, include authentic experiences, and simplify language. What Is The Purpose Of The Narrative Once Upon A Time Humans tell stories to themselves and others as a means of making sense of their world and as a way to promote learning and spread information, or to simply entertain themselves. Completed stories show evidence of two main parts: an underlying structure (how the story is organized) that contains the story s intrinsic meaning and, then, there is a lesser meaning, which is the way the story s structure is presented in the words and symbols, including metaphors. Although the events that compose a story (plot) may not happen in a sequential order, it is important for people or a culture to create a story in such a way that it will construct their reality and give meaning to their subjective experience. This event gave the Catholics yet another reason to dislike the Unionists. The Unionists also used crooked politics to ensure Protestant control. One way of doing this was by gerrymandering the political district lines. For example, one ward was ninety percent Catholic while the rest of the Catholics were scattered about in Protestant wards (Golway 280). By dividing the districts this way it made the Catholic votes virtually meaningless. Then, the Protestant controlled government passed the Civil Authorities Act. This Act granted the government the right to search homes without a warrant, impose curfews, and randomly arrest citizens even if no real crime had been committed. The Catholics were the ones who were primarily oppressed by these laws. Other laws limited the education of Catholics, restricted them from holding office, and they were also discriminated against on the job. Six Decisions That Will Change Your Life Six Decisions that Will Change Your Life: Mature John 4:7 15 This week is the third week of our sermon series that accompanies our small group series based on Tom Berlin s book 6 Decisions That Will Change Your Life. While we all make many decisions each day, these are 6 monumental decisions of our Christian journey. The first week we heard about the Decision to Follow, and last week it was the Decision for a New Life. This week we will discover what it means to make the Decision to Mature. Let us pray and begin. Prayer. Our scripture reading this morning opens with a Samaritan woman, Jesus, and a well. When this woman approaches the well, Jesus asks for her to give him a drink. At this request the woman is taken aback. It was unprecedented for a Jewish man to be asking her for anything. First of all, this woman was a Samaritan. The Samaritans and the Jews schismed after disagreeing on the proper place of worship. A feud that even scripture felt the need to clarify by explaining in verse 9 Jews do not share things in common with Samaritans. Second, she was meeting Jesus at the well alone. Which alludes to her being unclean, or impure, in some way that would prevent her from getting water when all of the other women do. Jesus approaching HER at all is startling to her, if not utterly confusing. Yet still, Jesus persists, saying if you only knew who I am and the gift that is before you. Third person provides an impeccable description of every situation, however, without shifting to any other point of view, Fitzgerald disadvantages the reader in obtaining a more personal view of one of the main characters. For example, at the time where Bernice is about to cut off her cousin Marjorie s hair it states, She was by the bedside now, very deliberate and calm. She acted swiftly. Summary Of Faint Hints Of Tranquility Reflecting on all the stories I have read in class so far, I would have to say that my two favorite pieces of literature are, Faint Hints of Tranquility, by Adania Shibi and, The Uses of English, by Akinwumi Isola. Faint Hints of Tranquility, is a mind challenging story with its many moments of symbolism throughout. For instance, when the Israeli reporter goes to talk with a Palestinian woman in the Balatah refugee camp, Shibi teaches the reader about how respect looks in her culture. While the reporter talks with the woman, she accidently steps on the woman s headscarf and she feels beyond embarrassed about her action; as a reader, you can tell she has a little panic attack at this moment. Before reading this piece, I didn t know that in many Middle Eastern countries touching an object or a person with human feet is one the worst insults. Another example of symbolism, would be when the reporter changes her password to Arafat. Arafat is the name of a Palestinian leader who was a chairman for the Palestinian Liberation Organization. The reporter throughout the story shows that she is suffering from PTSD and her changing her password is a way she wants to remind herself she needs to continue fighting for what she believes in. Even the way the book is organized gives the story more meaning. Through the voice of the story it can be inferred the protagonist is suffering through PTSD, but the fact that her journal entries are all out of order gives the reader more insight ... • 41. How Does Thomas Hobbes Use Fear In The Leviathan In Leviathan, Thomas Hobbes defines fear as aversion with opinion of hurt from the object (30). This aversion that humans experience plays a fundamental role in Hobbes understanding of humanity and society. More specifically, in the state of nature the fear of death sustains a constant state of war that motivates men to seek peace under a common power called the Leviathan. However, the function of fear in the Leviathan differs from its function in the state of nature, in that men in the Leviathan maintain peace not only out of fear of other men, but also out of fear of the common power. This understanding of fear mirrors Machiavelli s as outlined in The Prince, in which Machiavelli contends that leaders should use fear to secure their subjects ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The reason for this discrepancy is that desire for power and fear of death balance each other out in the Leviathan. More precisely, Hobbes describes men as having a perpetual and restless desire of power after power, that ceaseth only in death and a fear of oppression that disposes them to seek aid by society because there is no other way by which a man can secure his life and liberty (58 59). Hobbes illustrates how in men, the desire for power and the fear of death are in a tug of war contest, and men ultimately find the most benefit within the Leviathan. The Leviathan acquires power because the fear of death authorizes it to, since the Leviathan controls the life and liberty of the people (127). Hobbes elaborates that men who choose their sovereign do it for fear of one another and that they subject themselves to him they are afraid of (127). Essentially, Hobbes postulates that the fear of the state of nature, in which men live in constant war, has a stronger influence upon men than does the fear of the Leviathan. The Leviathan keeps all men in awe, and they subject themselves to even the most tyrannical dictator in exchange for removal from the state of nature.
