The author, Melissa Mae, explains the issue, along with the opposing sides, clearly. Mae begins the
essay by introducing the issue. She says the abuse of detainees at Abu Ghraib gained attention around
2004. Americans became concerned when they found out the government was using torture and were
extremely upset about it. She states that people believed torture was being used as a part of the
government s interrogation of war on terror detainees. Though she tells the readers what the issue is,
she never fully explains it. She only tells us that the essays she wrote about were written around the

paragraph.
Not only does Mae give examples from both sides, but she also includes many quotes that keep the

writer, she also adds input from the other writer. Mae says, Bagaric and Clarke, in their turn, anticipate
Johnson s argument and refute it by arguing that those who believe (as Johnson does) that torture is
always wrong are misguided. This helps the reader understand both sides of the argument equally. The
writer gives an interesting aspect to the essay. She makes her point clear to the audience, which makes
the essay readable. In the essay, Mae adds fascinating details to keep the reader interested. When the
essay begins to get uninteresting, she adds a detail that makes you want to continue reading. Paragraph
two is a prime example of this. Mae gives a few facts about the authors, loosing interest from the
reader, and then proceeds to add the common ground at the end of the paragraph. Adding the common

The short story, The White Heron , written by Sarah Jewett, gave me a moral that many people need to
remember for their entire lives. The moral that I personally received from the story was that life isn t

Trust is Earned
Trust is having the confidence to rely on someone or something. This attribute is extremely hard to
achieve and requires sacrifices. For Huck to find a home or a place he is comfortable with he needs to
have the feeling that he is surrounded by characters of reliance and assurance. Huck Finn has a highly
different perspective of the world opposed to the people who surround him. Most importantly, Huck
struggles heavily on determining the difference between right and wrong because of the people around
him that influence him. He makes his decisions based upon past experiences dictated by trust. Mark
Twain makes the choice of a social satire because having Huck tell the story allows the reader to see
and understand how a child interprets what happens around him. The reader can then view Hucks
thought process and grasp what he is feeling. For example, while being around his father, Huck does
not feel safe therefore he runs away. Throughout the Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, Huck comes
across multiple families and people, yet he never experiences a truly comfortable feeling among any
family due his conscience constantly fighting with his white southern instincts.

My Learner s Academic Development On Their Past Work And...
I am basing my descriptions of my Average Learner s academic development on their past work and
observations. They can read and understand simple texts. In fact, the history textbook for this class is
within their reading level and so they can read and understood information therein. In addition, they
can listen and follow verbal instructions. For them, I do not have to repeat nor display my instruction
on the whiteboard nor through PowerPoint slides, but I do sometimes have to speak slower to assure
they can hear what I say. They can write simple and complex sentences, with a high degree of clarity.
(I will provide further information about this when I describe their language development later in this
paper). Collectively, they can collaborate in groups, preferably of no more than three students in a
group, because anything more is not conducive to learning. The reason they work well together
because most know each other from being in the same classes last year and the on the same sport team

Specific aim: The aim of this study is to examine if spinal mobilization (SM), a form of manual
therapy (MT) affects conditioned pain modulation (CPM) among adults with chronic idiopathic neck
pain (CINP).
Scope of the problem: Why is the study important?
Chronic neck pain is common, costly, and a leading cause of disability. Literature suggests that
ascending pain pathways (i.e. pain pressure threshold or PPT) and/or descending pain pathways (i.e.
CPM) may be impaired in those with chronic pain [please see Appendix for illustration of ascending
and descending pain pathways]. Spinal mobilization (SM), a form of MT, is a common treatment that
has been effective in relieving neck pain according to Cochrane Review (Gross et al 2015). A recent
systematic review (Coronado et al 2015) concluded that although the pain relief from MT seems to
improve PPT; the pain relief, however, is not associated with PPT, a measure of the ascending pain
pathways. Whether the pain relief from SM is due to its effects on the descending pain pathways (e.g.
CPM) is not known at this time.
CPM is a method to test one s endogenous descending pain inhibition status. It is a simple test that
uses a second painful stimulus to identify if a person has a normal functioning CPM or not. Pressure
pain threshold (PPT) is a measure of (ascending and descending pain pathways) pain sensitivity and is

about her future. Her anxiety leads to a severe depression and several suicide attempts from which
Esther slowly recovers through asserting her independence and controlling her own destiny. Silence
also leads to Esther s depression, The silence depressed me. It wasn t the silence of silence. It was my
own silence. Esther felt as if she was an outsider to society due to her background as a small town girl.
She clearly felt a distinction between her and the other girls like Lenny and Doreen, I felt myself
