BUILDING DUCTING
HOW TO INSTALL DUCT WORK
STEPS
STEP 1:-
 CONSULT THE BUILDING CODES
FOR STATE AND MUNICIPALITY.
EACH STATE HAS ITS LAWS OWN
REGULATIONS IN HVAC
INSATALLATIONS.
STEP 2:-
 PUT UR SAFTEY GEARS,
INCLUDING GOGGLES,FACE
MASK,RESPIRATORS,WORK
GLOVES,HELMET.
STEP 3 :-
 SET THE MOUNTING RING OF
YOUR DUCT WORK IN THE PLACE
OF FURNACE, FAN OR AIR
CONDITINOER.
STEP 4 :-
 RUN THE DUCT ALONG THE
ROUTE SPECIFIED BY UR PLAN .
MOUNT INTO THE CELING WALL
OR FLOOR PLAN USING THE
METAL STRAP 3 TO 4 FEET.
ATTACH THE STRAP USING NAIL
AND HAMMER .
STEP 5 :-
 INSERT A CONNECTING COLLAR
INTO THE EACH LENGTH OF
DUCT, THEN SLIP A MEW LENGTH
ON THE OPPOSITE SIDE OF THE
COLLAR.AFFIX THE PLACE USING
DUCT TAPE
STEP 6 :-
 USE THE CUTTER OR SCISSORS
TO CUT OF THE EXCESS DUCT
WHEN TIN WHEN IT REACHES
THE END OF YOUR PLANNED
LINE
STEP 7 :-
 WRAP THE LENGTH OF
COMPLETED DUCT IN THE
INSULATION BY ROLLING IT IN
SPIRAL PATTERN LIKE HANDLE
THE HANDLE OF TENNIS RACKET
STEP 8:-
 WRAP DUCT TAPE AROUND THE EACH
END OF LENGTH INSULATION AND
ALONG THE SEAM OF THE WRAPPED
INSULATION .
STEP 9 :-
 REAPEAT UNTILL ALL YOUR GRILLS
AND REGISTORS ARE HOOKED UP TP
YOUR HVAC SYSTEM.
STEP 10:-
 TEST YOUR SYSTEM BY TURING IT ON
AND CHECKING U HAVE SIGNIFICIANT
AIR FLOW THROUGH EACH GRILL.
MATERIALS
Flexible non metallic ducts
• These large-diameter, wire-reinforced
ducts can be used in long lengths,
and have enough flexibility to snake
around obstacles.
 Long lengths eliminate the need for
many joints, but leaks can occur
where flex duct joins sheet metal
registers or other types of ductwork.
 These ducts are popular in attic and
any cramped space .These duct can
be torn, cut and crushed, so careful
handling is important.
Sheet metal ducts:
• Made from galvanized steel ,aluminum are the most common materials,
these ducts can be rectangular or round.
• One duct section usually slides into another. Leaks typically occur where
sections join.
• They are also the least likely to harbor dangerous molds or growths because they
have non-porous surfaces.
Fiberglass lined ducts :
• These are sheet metal ducts that have internal or external fiberglass lining. This
type of duct is common in office and commercial buildings, as it dampens the sound
of the air conditioner unit.
• These ducts can deteriorate and eventually release fiberglass particles into the air
this is a major health concern, especially with long-term exposure.
• These are also difficult to clean due to the cleaning process can damage the lining
and release fibers. These ducts can also become contaminated with molds and
bacteria.
Fiberboard ducts:
 Fiberboard is made from fiberglass
strands that have been compressed
and bonded with a resin, and then
covered with a sheet of foil
laminate to protect them from
moisture.
 This type of duct is good for cooling
and heating systems because it is
well insulated by itself
 It is not recommended for
ventilation because, like fiberglass-
lined ducts, they can become a
breeding ground for mold and
mildew in humid climates. Also,
because the surface is rough, they
can also affect airflow and
efficiency.
COMPONENTS OF DUCTING
VIBRATION ISOLATERS
• The blowers in the air handler
can create substantial
vibration, and the large area of
the duct system would transmit
this noise and vibration to the
inhabitants of the building.
• To avoid this, vibration
isolators (flexible sections) are
normally inserted into the duct
immediately before and after
the air handler.
TAKE OFFS STACK BOOTS AND HEADS
 . When the system is designed with a
main duct branching into many
subsidiary branch ducts, fittings called
Take-offs allow a small portion of the
flow in the main duct to be diverted
into each branch duct.
 Take-offs may be fitted into round or
rectangular openings cut into the wall
of the main duct
 The outlet of the take-off then
connects to the rectangular, oval, or
round branch duct.
 Ducts, especially in
homes, must often allow
air to travel vertically
within relatively thin walls.
 These vertical ducts are
called stacks and are
formed with either very
wide and relatively thin
rectangular sections or
oval sections.
 At the bottom of the
stack, a stack boot
provides a transition from
an ordinary large round or
rectangular duct to the
thin wall-mounted duct
VOLUMECONTROL DAMPERS SMOKE AND FIRE DAMPERS
 Ducting systems must often
provide a method of adjusting
the volume of air flow to various
parts of the system.
 These dampers may be manual
or automatic.
 Smoke dampers are driven by a
motor.
 The motor is installed in the run
of the duct and detect smoke
either in the air which has
extracted from or is being
supplied to a room .

  • 7. Sheet metal ducts: • Made from galvanized steel ,aluminum are the most common materials, these ducts can be rectangular or round. • One duct section usually slides into another. Leaks typically occur where sections join. • They are also the least likely to harbor dangerous molds or growths because they have non-porous surfaces. Fiberglass lined ducts : • These are sheet metal ducts that have internal or external fiberglass lining. This type of duct is common in office and commercial buildings, as it dampens the sound of the air conditioner unit. • These ducts can deteriorate and eventually release fiberglass particles into the air this is a major health concern, especially with long-term exposure. • These are also difficult to clean due to the cleaning process can damage the lining and release fibers. These ducts can also become contaminated with molds and bacteria.
  • 8. Fiberboard ducts:  Fiberboard is made from fiberglass strands that have been compressed and bonded with a resin, and then covered with a sheet of foil laminate to protect them from moisture.  This type of duct is good for cooling and heating systems because it is well insulated by itself  It is not recommended for ventilation because, like fiberglass- lined ducts, they can become a breeding ground for mold and mildew in humid climates. Also, because the surface is rough, they can also affect airflow and efficiency.
  • 9. COMPONENTS OF DUCTING VIBRATION ISOLATERS • The blowers in the air handler can create substantial vibration, and the large area of the duct system would transmit this noise and vibration to the inhabitants of the building. • To avoid this, vibration isolators (flexible sections) are normally inserted into the duct immediately before and after the air handler.
  • 10. TAKE OFFS STACK BOOTS AND HEADS  . When the system is designed with a main duct branching into many subsidiary branch ducts, fittings called Take-offs allow a small portion of the flow in the main duct to be diverted into each branch duct.  Take-offs may be fitted into round or rectangular openings cut into the wall of the main duct  The outlet of the take-off then connects to the rectangular, oval, or round branch duct.  Ducts, especially in homes, must often allow air to travel vertically within relatively thin walls.  These vertical ducts are called stacks and are formed with either very wide and relatively thin rectangular sections or oval sections.  At the bottom of the stack, a stack boot provides a transition from an ordinary large round or rectangular duct to the thin wall-mounted duct
  • 11. VOLUMECONTROL DAMPERS SMOKE AND FIRE DAMPERS  Ducting systems must often provide a method of adjusting the volume of air flow to various parts of the system.  These dampers may be manual or automatic.  Smoke dampers are driven by a motor.  The motor is installed in the run of the duct and detect smoke either in the air which has extracted from or is being supplied to a room .
