ELECTRICAL PROPERTIES OF LIQUID DIELECTRICS
 The electrical properties are essential in determining the dielectric
performance of liquid dielectric are:
1. Relative permittivity
 Permitivities of most the petroleum oils vary from 2.0 to 2.6.
2. Resistivity
 Resistivities used high voltage application more than 1016 ohm-
meter.

3. Power factor
 Power factor, determine power loss and is an important parameter in
cable and capacitor.
 Pure and transformer oil, power factor have very low power factor
varying 10-4 at 20°C and 10-3 at 90°C .
4. Ability to withstand high dielectric stresses
 In case transformer, the dielectric loss in the oil is negligible when
compared to copper and iron losses.

The main factors that control the heat transfer are thermal conductivity
(K) and Viscosity (v)
Heat transferred mainly by convection.
Under natural atm cooling condition convection (N) is given by
K = thermal conductivity ; A = Coefficient of expansion C = specific
heat per unit volume, v = kinematics viscosity ;n = 0.25 - 0.33

It can be caused by short circuits, overloading, design flaws, or ground faults. 2) Over current relays contain a current coil. During normal operation, the magnetic effect is insufficient to trigger the relay. During over currents, the increased magnetic effect overcomes the restraint, moving the contact to isolate the circuit. 3) Over current relays come in instantaneous, definite time, and inverse time variations depending on their time of operation. Inverse time relays isolate faults faster for more severe over currents.
