Bloom, billet, Slab
• Blooms – it is product of first breakdown of ingot, generally hot
working,(Cross sectional area generally > 150cmX150cm)
• Billet- product obtained from a further reduction by hot rolling
( Cross sectional area> 40cmX40cm)
• Slab- slab is any hot rolled ingot with cross sectional area 100cm2
and width > 2x thickness)
Plate, sheet, strip
• Plate – Plate is product with a thickness > 6mm
• Sheet- Product with thickness <6mm and width >600mm
• Strip – strip os product with thickness < 6mm and width <600mm
• Bloom, billets and slabs are known as semi finished products
