Captain America Billboard
Captain America Billboard
Main Image
The dominant image that has been used is an action shot of Captain America and another character from
the movie shadowing him. The costume that he is wearing ensures that the audience is able to recognise
this character from the previous movies. This is also done with the use of the prop (shield) in which he is
holding to protect himself as this is a typical and recognisable feature for Captain America. The fact that
the main character and his shield has been placed above the top of the original rectangle of the billboard
gives a 3D effect; making the image increasingly realistic and also meaning that the audience is more
likely to notice this. The inclusion of the other character gives an insight into the events of the movie but
also makes the audience want to know who this character is therefore, they are more likely to actively find
out by watching the movie.

Masthead and Main Text
All of the text has been written in white and in the same font. The position of this text indicates that the
information is important due to it taking up the predominant amount of the billboard. The title of the movie has
been positioned in the centre of the board as this is the most important piece of information on the advertisement.
Underneath the title, the release date has been included so that the audience is made aware of when they will be
able to view the movie meaning that they will anticipate the release and therefore, be more likely to watch it when
it is released. The font of all of the text is in capital, bold writing which matches the genre and superhero movies.
The text and information that has been included on this billboard has been kept to a minimum so that the
audience actively has to find out more information about the movie. Also, this has been done as, when the
audience view this advertisement, they will be ‘on-the-go’ (e.g. in the car) meaning that they wont be able to view
it for a very long period of time therefore, they are just given essential information to form the knowledge of this
movie.

Background
The background of this image is made up of a dark cloud and smoke. This gives an indication that there is
war-like action in this movie - which also reinforces the genre of the movie (action). The background has
been kept simple so that the image and text stand out as these are the most important parts of the
advertisement and where the audience’s attention should be. In addition, the dark and mono-tone colours
make the costumes of the characters stand out more so that they don’t blend in with the background and
become less important and visible.
Logo
Above the title, the ‘Marvel’ logo has been included so that their already-established audience will be
influenced into wanting to watch this movie.

The billboard is unique in the fact that it is not a conventional rectangle shape as it has been made to
appear burnt. The dominant image includes three ‘angry birds’ who appear to look guilty – as if they have
burnt the billboard – and they are positioned behind the billboard. This will attract a younger target
audience as an element of comedy has been included. The fact that each of the birds are different colours
means that they stand out on the board so that the audience is able to view them easily and quickly as
they are passing. Each of the colours used for the birds match the text as well as the ‘burnt’ area which
shows an element of continuity throughout the board and the different features that have been used.

All of the font on the board is wrote in either black or red to match the colour theme of the movie and to keep
the house style reoccurring throughout. In the bottom left hand corner of the board, the release date and 3D
information has been included as this will give the audience information about when they will be able to watch
the movie but also, the fact that it is in 3D links with the style and image of the board – this has been used to
entice the younger, primary target audience. The billboard is also unique in the fact that the dominant image –
or ‘burnt’ area – is hiding the movie title. This indicates that the movie already has an established audience as
a result of different media platforms; consequently, the billboard relies on the recognition of the movie
characters – which is why they are positioned in the centre of the page. Some of the masthead is still visible,
either side of the dominant image so that the audience is able to affirm their knowledge that this is an Angry
Birds movie, as the font is recognisable to them.

Background
The white background of the billboard means that the included text is easy to read but also, it adds more
emphasis to the burns area as it stands out more to the audience and makes it increasingly dramatic and
therefore, comical. The fact that the scaffolding behind the billboard is visible adds to the realistic element that
is being created with the use of the burns area. With the background being plain, the dominant image and
characters stand out more which means that the target audience is more likely to be attracted to this area of
the advertisement and therefore is more likely to be made aware of the existence of this movie.

The dominant image is a close up of the two main characters from the movie, positioned on the left hand side
of the billboard. This image takes up half of the board as this is the most important feature on the
advertisement due to the fact that an image will be more likely to attract a younger target audience. Both
characters appear to be looking directly at the audience which makes a direct link; making it seem
increasingly personal to the audience – which is also important for the younger target audience. These
character also hold mischievous facial expressions which gives an insight into the type of events that occur
within the movie but also, this will make the audience want to find out why they have this appearance.

Background
The hair from the female character creates the background of the billboard which is a unique feature which is
individual to this movie. With the use of this feature, the audience will be able to recognise that this movie is
about the character of Rapunzel meaning that they will be more likely to watch the movie as they will want to
see the different interpretations of this well-known movie character. With the use of this unique feature making
the link with the well-known character this means that the movie attracts all ages as a result of this character
being around for a long time and in portrayed in different forms.

The title of the movie is the biggest text on the page – alike the predominant amount of other billboards – as
this is the information which is the important for the audience to know. If they know the title of the movie then
they can actively search for this movie. The font that it has been written is the font that is specific to this movie
meaning that when the audience views this they will be able to recognise it and relate it to this movie. As well
as this, the colour of the title matches the hair that creates the background; this feature keeps the house style
the same throughout the board. In addition, the only other piece of text that is included is the release date of
the movie; this gives the audience essential information which means that they will anticipate this release and
be more likely to actively go and watch the movie. This text has been written in white and a simple font so that
it is easy to read for the audience which means that they will be more likely to take this information in.

The Disney logo has been placed in the bottom left hand corner of the board in its own unique font. This has
been included so that the already-established, and large, audience will be more likely to want to watch this
movie; resulting in an increase in the amount of viewers. The logo is in white as this matches the text of the
release date which means that the house style is kept the same throughout the board. Due to the Disney logo
being known universally, a larger target audience will be reached out to and consequently, the movie will gain
more active audience members and therefore, more viewers.

Billboard deconstructions

  • 3. Captain America Billboard Main Image The dominant image that has been used is an action shot of Captain America and another character from the movie shadowing him. The costume that he is wearing ensures that the audience is able to recognise this character from the previous movies. This is also done with the use of the prop (shield) in which he is holding to protect himself as this is a typical and recognisable feature for Captain America. The fact that the main character and his shield has been placed above the top of the original rectangle of the billboard gives a 3D effect; making the image increasingly realistic and also meaning that the audience is more likely to notice this. The inclusion of the other character gives an insight into the events of the movie but also makes the audience want to know who this character is therefore, they are more likely to actively find out by watching the movie.
  • 4. Captain America Billboard Masthead and Main Text All of the text has been written in white and in the same font. The position of this text indicates that the information is important due to it taking up the predominant amount of the billboard. The title of the movie has been positioned in the centre of the board as this is the most important piece of information on the advertisement. Underneath the title, the release date has been included so that the audience is made aware of when they will be able to view the movie meaning that they will anticipate the release and therefore, be more likely to watch it when it is released. The font of all of the text is in capital, bold writing which matches the genre and superhero movies. The text and information that has been included on this billboard has been kept to a minimum so that the audience actively has to find out more information about the movie. Also, this has been done as, when the audience view this advertisement, they will be ‘on-the-go’ (e.g. in the car) meaning that they wont be able to view it for a very long period of time therefore, they are just given essential information to form the knowledge of this movie.
  • 5. Captain America Billboard Background The background of this image is made up of a dark cloud and smoke. This gives an indication that there is war-like action in this movie - which also reinforces the genre of the movie (action). The background has been kept simple so that the image and text stand out as these are the most important parts of the advertisement and where the audience’s attention should be. In addition, the dark and mono-tone colours make the costumes of the characters stand out more so that they don’t blend in with the background and become less important and visible. Logo Above the title, the ‘Marvel’ logo has been included so that their already-established audience will be influenced into wanting to watch this movie.
  • 7. Angry Birds Billboard Main Image The billboard is unique in the fact that it is not a conventional rectangle shape as it has been made to appear burnt. The dominant image includes three ‘angry birds’ who appear to look guilty – as if they have burnt the billboard – and they are positioned behind the billboard. This will attract a younger target audience as an element of comedy has been included. The fact that each of the birds are different colours means that they stand out on the board so that the audience is able to view them easily and quickly as they are passing. Each of the colours used for the birds match the text as well as the ‘burnt’ area which shows an element of continuity throughout the board and the different features that have been used.
  • 8. Angry Birds Billboard Text and Masthead All of the font on the board is wrote in either black or red to match the colour theme of the movie and to keep the house style reoccurring throughout. In the bottom left hand corner of the board, the release date and 3D information has been included as this will give the audience information about when they will be able to watch the movie but also, the fact that it is in 3D links with the style and image of the board – this has been used to entice the younger, primary target audience. The billboard is also unique in the fact that the dominant image – or ‘burnt’ area – is hiding the movie title. This indicates that the movie already has an established audience as a result of different media platforms; consequently, the billboard relies on the recognition of the movie characters – which is why they are positioned in the centre of the page. Some of the masthead is still visible, either side of the dominant image so that the audience is able to affirm their knowledge that this is an Angry Birds movie, as the font is recognisable to them.
  • 9. Angry Birds Billboard Background The white background of the billboard means that the included text is easy to read but also, it adds more emphasis to the burns area as it stands out more to the audience and makes it increasingly dramatic and therefore, comical. The fact that the scaffolding behind the billboard is visible adds to the realistic element that is being created with the use of the burns area. With the background being plain, the dominant image and characters stand out more which means that the target audience is more likely to be attracted to this area of the advertisement and therefore is more likely to be made aware of the existence of this movie.
  • 11. Tangled Billboard Main Image The dominant image is a close up of the two main characters from the movie, positioned on the left hand side of the billboard. This image takes up half of the board as this is the most important feature on the advertisement due to the fact that an image will be more likely to attract a younger target audience. Both characters appear to be looking directly at the audience which makes a direct link; making it seem increasingly personal to the audience – which is also important for the younger target audience. These character also hold mischievous facial expressions which gives an insight into the type of events that occur within the movie but also, this will make the audience want to find out why they have this appearance.
  • 12. Tangled Billboard Background The hair from the female character creates the background of the billboard which is a unique feature which is individual to this movie. With the use of this feature, the audience will be able to recognise that this movie is about the character of Rapunzel meaning that they will be more likely to watch the movie as they will want to see the different interpretations of this well-known movie character. With the use of this unique feature making the link with the well-known character this means that the movie attracts all ages as a result of this character being around for a long time and in portrayed in different forms.
  • 13. Tangled Billboard Text The title of the movie is the biggest text on the page – alike the predominant amount of other billboards – as this is the information which is the important for the audience to know. If they know the title of the movie then they can actively search for this movie. The font that it has been written is the font that is specific to this movie meaning that when the audience views this they will be able to recognise it and relate it to this movie. As well as this, the colour of the title matches the hair that creates the background; this feature keeps the house style the same throughout the board. In addition, the only other piece of text that is included is the release date of the movie; this gives the audience essential information which means that they will anticipate this release and be more likely to actively go and watch the movie. This text has been written in white and a simple font so that it is easy to read for the audience which means that they will be more likely to take this information in.
  • 14. Tangled Billboard Logo The Disney logo has been placed in the bottom left hand corner of the board in its own unique font. This has been included so that the already-established, and large, audience will be more likely to want to watch this movie; resulting in an increase in the amount of viewers. The logo is in white as this matches the text of the release date which means that the house style is kept the same throughout the board. Due to the Disney logo being known universally, a larger target audience will be reached out to and consequently, the movie will gain more active audience members and therefore, more viewers.
