reader that the film, which it is

from the outset and
throughout. By using colder
colours such as the different
shades of blue, it gives the
connotations of masculinity,
which matches the protagonist’s
personality, and also gives a
calming feel. This is then
contrasted massively with the
burning Batman symbol located
at the top of the poster. As the
red and orange colours
connotes danger and power it
not only creates an eye catching
contrast, it also indicates to the
reader that the film will most
likely be an action film as that
genre is known for its masculine
cast and fast paced dangerous
fight scenes.
Mise-En-Scene
The background image shows a
large skyscraper, this is
significant as it immediately tells
the audience that the film will
be set in a urban area. It is
important to show this as a
successful film poster
communicates different aspects
of the film to their readers
without giving away anything
too important so not to spoil
the ending. Low key lighting has
been used in the poster, this
tells the reader that the film is
dramatic, action packed and
maybe even scary at parts. The
costume worn by the
protagonist in the poster is
dressed in the identifiable
Batman costume. This is a
common identifier for the
reader as it is well known for
Batman to wear this black outfit
in every films he appears in.

3. Realism
The poster has both realistic
and unrealistic elements to it,
for example the location and the
cloudy and foggy weather the
reader can see gives the poster
a sense of verisimilitude as
these are common things that
the readers will be very much
used to. However the explosion
appearing behind the
protagonist in the shape of a bat
is very unrealistic as the reader
would never have seen this
happen before. This makes the
poster look more interesting as
people walking past this poster
would stop to look at the
unusual happenings occurring
on the page.
Target Audience
The target audience is very clear
from looking at the poster as
there are many indications to
the reader about who the film is
targeted towards. One
indication being the fact that
the character shown in the
central part of the page is male
and looks to be and adult aged
between 25-35. Usually in films
the main character is a
representation of the target
audience of the entire film and
so, with this in mind, from
looking at this poster alone it
seems that the target audience
of the film is men in in their 20’s
or 30’s. This point is backed up
by the masculine colour scheme
which again indicates that the
target audience is mostly male.

5. Tag Line
The tagline is located at the top of the
poster and all capitalized. The font is
relatively small as the images are the
most eye catching features on the page.
Cast
A list of the main cast are located near the
bottom of the poster, the most famous
starting at the left. The font is also
capitalised and the last name of each
being a larger font than the first. This is
because the last name of the
actor/actresses is more identifiable to the
reader to attract their attention.
Film Title
The film title is capitalised and slightly
larger than the rest of the text on the
poster, this is important as the title of the
film is the most important feature on the
whole of the page. It is located near the
bottom of the page, this maybe because
when a poster is put up, a lot of the time
they are high up on the wall and so the
important information needs to be at a
height where everyone can see it.
Credits
The credits are located at the very bottom
of the page and in a very small font. This is
because these pieces of text will be little
to no interest to the reader as the
information given is just the companies
who helped to produce or sponsor the
film.
Image
The main image is located in the central
of the poster so that it becomes the first
thing the reader sees when they glance
at the page. It is a low angle shot and so
the protagonist appears to be looking
down at the reader, this makes him look
more prestigious and powerful. It is hard
to tell as it is also a long shot but it looks
like the character is using direct mode of
address as he stares down the camera
lens at the reader.
Release Date
The release date is located at the very
bottom of the page in a large bold
font and also capitalised. This is
because it is an important factor on
the poster as it gives the reader vital
information about the film. On this
poster in particular the release date is
the third thing I look to, the first 2
being the main image and the title.
Iconic Symbol
The iconic symbol associated with
anything Batman appears twice on
the poster, a larger one at the top of
the page and a smaller version by
the title. By including these on the
film poster the reader can easily
identify that it is advertising a
Batman film.
