Globalization of the Automotive Industry Essays
Just like the other industries such as apparel, electronics, and consumer goods, the automobile industry
has accelerated its foreign direct investment, cross border trade and global production. The automobile
industry has increased outsourcing and bundled value chain activities in major supplier chains. As a
result, more developed countries that serve as suppliers have increased their involvement in trade and
FDI. With these increased supplier capabilities, large national suppliers have become global suppliers
and are now controlling multinational operations. This is because of their increased capability of
providing good and services to various lead firms all over the world. The automotive industry has a
distinct firm structure. This ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Participation of developing economies in globalization of the automotive industry was enhanced by
innovations in telecommunication, technology development, and transportation. These elements made
it possible for the industry to fragment its production processes and creation of smaller assembling
plants that were located in different regions of the world. This segmentation of production processes
created multiple global production networks and expanded the global market making many
developing countries reap the benefits of globalizing the automotive industry (Maxcy 108).
The auto industry adopted new globalization trends that could steer the restructuring of global
manufacturing in order to meet the challenges of global economies. There was the need to improve on
efficiency and maintain a competitive level in the automobile industry. Automotive manufacturers
from Asia, Europe, and the US adopted global trends such as integrating low income countries into the
global division of labor. The aim of the automobile industry in adopting globalization was to enable it
shift from the economies of scale to the economies of scope. The industry started focusing more on
manufacturing capabilities that could enable it meet the increasing marketing demands. The rapid
changes in technology forced automakers

Notes On The Current Ratio
The current ratio (CR) measures the extent to which an organization can transform assets into cash to
meet short term liabilities (p.3). FirstRate s (FR) CR is trending down and is a low value indicating
ratios lending risk ( Liquidity Ratio , n.d.). FR current ratio is still in safe zone as it exceeds 1 (p.6).
The CR is the extent which current assets exceed current liabilities and so it is a measure of short term
ability to meet obligations (p.6).
The acid test (AT) ratio is a more exact measure to verify if FR has the ability meet short term
obligations through actual liquid assets ( Acid test , 2003). The CR considers illiquid assets the acid
test only considers liquid assets ( Acid Test , 2003). FR AR ratio is not indicative of ... Show more

The higher the collection period the more risk an organization takes on. It may however work to
attract more customers but this is a short term fix.
The longer a firm takes to sell inventory the higher their carrying costs are. Firms want to get
inventory out in the shortest amount of time possible in order to liquidate them. FR s average days to
sell inventory in trending upward which is not value added. This is also a metric which defines the
quality of assets because firms need liquid assets supply should come close to demand to increase
liquidity. This ratio is similar to the turnover (TO) ratio. All of the liquidity ratios tell how well the
decisions made by management are paying off. It s not looking to good.

Urbanization Is A Necessary Process For A Country
Introduction
Urbanization is a necessary process for countries to develop, this process is a process which require
time and great amounts of money, which can lead to a number of different problems during and after
completion of this stage. A lot of factors play roles that lead to inequalities amongst the citizens. This
paper looks at challenges that can reside in poor urban residents, identifies causes and also highlights
ways in which that can be used reduces them.
Urbanization
Urbanization is the increase in urban population, this occurs when the rural population shifts from
rural areas to urban regions for better job opportunities and better facilities (wiki)2. Urbanization can
be seen as a crucial and necessary process for a country to develop. It can also be used to measure a
country s wealth as it provides opportunities for sustainability and the usage of resources more
efficiently affecting areas both positively and negatively by influencing the social, economic and
environmental changes of a country (wiki)2. The process of urbanization requires time, land and
money, when most of a country s population reside in urban areas the level of urbanization becomes
high and showing the country s level of development and industrialism. Because the process of
urbanization requires a lot of time to fully accomplish, areas that had been urbanized deteriorate with
time forcing gentrification to be implemented in that specific area. The United Nations predicts that

Stars As Commodities
Furthermore, the market functions are what forms their most important aspect of all; increasing
economic advantages. The market and the industry are part of the labour that produces and distributes;
both factors interrelate with each other. However, stars contribute themselves into making
commodities; both labour and what labour produces. Dyer (2005) argues stars as commodities are
distributed in several stages. Firstly, successful commodities are created from stars with a reputable
image, as the work of fashioning the star out of the raw material of the person, varies in the degree to
which it respects what artists refer to as inherent qualities of the material; make up, coiffure, clothing,
dieting and body building can all make more or less ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The emphasis on human emptiness is compared to contemporary society where culture must be
somewhat positive which produces the status quo; which does not mean that art is affirmative of
bourgeois values, for to affirm those values, however limited they are, is still to affirm a value, a
positive quality, to set against the tawdriness of the achievements of bourgeois society (Dyer, 2002, p.
13). However, Dyer (2002) argues certain objections of sheer manipulation; firstly, not all
manipulation works due to stars fluctuating audience responses from their careers, i.e.: Anna Sten in
The Great Stars. In contradiction to Boorstin and Marcuse, Dyer s interpretation of manipulation are
raised against the view of the star phenomenon. Boorstin and Marcuse do not examine the content of
star images, but solely focus on the stars outer appearances and superficial content; where the stars
images are seen as acceptable in the medium and/or seen in context to their roles or filmic
representations (Dyer, 2002, p. 14). Due to fluctuating audience control and outward appearance used
as manipulation, Boorstin and Marcuse identify human consciousness to play a critical role in
manipulation as it becomes dependent towards the behavioural

Celebrity Culture and Fashion Trends
Although celebrity culture is typically associated with actors and actress, consumers may also rely on
the trustfulness and credibility of politicians and first wives when deciding fashion trends. In the
1960s, fashion icon Jackie Kennedy took over the fashion industry (Joel 1). She appealed to many stay
at home women because she was commonly known to have a sophisticated simplicity (Joel 1)
approach to fashion. Her successor, First Lady Michelle Obama has instantly become a fashion icon
herself as well. She is commonly seen wearing American designers therefore pushing the American
fashion industry into the international spotlight (Givhan 1). People are often so draw to her style
because it gives a glance into her personal life. As Givhan states, Obama s clothes have connected
with the public in contemporary terms, in the language of Hollywood s glamour, Seventh Avenue s
bold entrepreneurship and the democracy of the mass market (Givhan 1). In March 2009, Michelle
Obama appeared on the cover of US Vogue which showcased her dress, style, and poise (Gibson 40).
Brett Schenck, president of Hart Schaffner Marx states, It s usually the frenzy behind the first lady
(Jones), but in the some instances, President Obama has also made an impact on the fashion industry.
In the summer of 2009, designer Donatella Versace created a runway show that was designed and
dedicated to him. The clothes she created where inspired by President Obama because it showcased a

Real Courage In To Kill A Mockingbird
Real courage is not abundant in the city of Maycomb, even though the people ostensibly believe so.
They believe that having courage is defined as aspiring to become strong or to become a warrior. The
author, however, believes in a different kind of courage that these people do not have. In To Kill a
Mockingbird, the author, Harper Lee defines courage not as being a hero or a warrior, but as regular
people. What makes these regular people courageous is not their physical bravery, but their mental
bravery. The most prominent examples of courage are Atticus defending Tom, Mrs. Dubose giving up
her morphine addiction, and the jury member who believed that Tom was innocent.
One obvious example of courage in To Kill a Mockingbird is Atticus. On the main premise of the
book, Atticus is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Dubose. Mrs Dubose, at first, just seemed like a bitter, resentful, and exasperated old lady. Later in the
book, it becomes known that this attitude and behavior is due to her drug addiction, in which she was
addicted to morphine. She said she was going to leave this world beholden to nothing and nobody. She
just wanted to live the rest of her life detached from her addiction, but this made her seem like the
furious old lady she was. Her situation is comparable to giving up smoking in today s world, which, as
it is known, proves to be a difficult task to even the utmost willful. To add to that, according to modern
statistics, there is a lower chance of giving up smoking as people get older. People who are addicted
but give up their addiction dwell on the idea that they will never be happy again because they thought
that their addiction was what made them happy. This adds to proving her courage, especially because
the effect of morphine is much greater (mostly due to some chemical reactions from morphine in the
brain). To have the bravery and the willpower to give up the drug is what makes Mrs. Dubose a prime

What Is Sweeteners Into Six Groups
Nutritionists agree that you should eat all forms of sugar in moderation, but almost in the same breath,
they claim that you can eat all the fruit and vegetables your heart desires. Don t they hear themselves?
If we eat all the fruit and vegetables we want, but limit the sugar, isn t that a little contradictory? All
fruits and vegetables have sugar!
It s human nature to want sweets. Even back in the hunter and gatherer days, we consumed some form
of sugar. The danger is that many of the so called sugars or sweeteners we have today are not real
sugar they re man made poisons passed off as sweeteners. In this section, we ll be talking about the
many forms of sugars and sweeteners, including the chemicals that are contained within them and
what they re doing to the human body. Many people think that they re created the same and they re
relatively healthy, but that s not the case.
It s easy to categorize sweeteners into six groups, as follows:
Natural sugars
Sugar alcohols
Caloric sweeteners
Natural zero calorie sweeteners
Modified sugars
Artificial sweeteners
Sugar Alcohols
These forms of sugars can be found naturally, just not in large quantity. They have fewer calories per
gram than sugar, and most importantly, are not known to cause tooth decay. Many sugars alcohol
come with some unpleasant side effects if consumed to excess. They are known to cause bloating and
diarrhea, as this form of sugar acts as a laxative. We are going to look at all of them and see if they are

Dr. Seuss The Appeaser Cartoon
Nearly all of us are familiar with the witty rhymes and colorful drawings of Dr. Seuss. Simply hearing
the name will evoke thoughts of colorful fish, a small mustached man that lives in the woods, and of
course the Cat in the Hat. However, before he started his career writing children s books, Dr. Seuss
was a successful political cartoonist for several major news outlets in the United States prior to the
outbreak of World War Two. The cartoon discussed will be one released right after Great Britain s
policy of appeasement is put into place. Dr. Seuss aim was to convince the American people that Great
Britain s plan would never work.
Because Dr. Seuss audience for this cartoon was the American people, he could be brutally honest

This is easily identified by The Appeaser written on his shirt, as appeasement was Britain s policy
towards Germany at the time this cartoon was published. We also see the representation of Great
Britain by the small island that the man is standing on. It s easy to tell that the man obviously doesn t
have much hope in appeasing the creature coming out of the sea. He is surrounded on all sides, he has
nowhere to run or hide from his impending doom. And yet he still seems confident, overly so. He is
portrayed as being pompous, as if he still sees himself as better than the sea monster towering above
him. The caption above the cartoon, Remember...just one more lollypop, and then you all go home
shows us the irony in the thought that this man can just hand out small lollypops to this beast and then
expect it to go back where it came from. The man on the island is treating this threat as if it were an
unruly child, confident that if he just gives the beast a taste of something sweet, it will run along and
no longer be bothersome. From the reader s point of view, it s easy to see the error in this thinking, as
it is obvious that something so huge and menacing cannot be appeased by something as simple as a

Dylan Klebold Research Paper
Dylan Klebold and Eric Harris are two of the most historic mass murders in American history. They
are the two kids who attacked columbine high school on april 20, 1999. Ever since that day people
have been constantly looking for the reason they did it but they actually did it for a number of reasons,
not just one like many people think. There is a number of reasons for why Dylan and Eric did what
they did, and why they clicked so well together. Dylan Klebold was a very smart kid but he was also
very troubled. Dylan was very depressed and also was fueled by a rage; He was often at times
described as a live wire. During his time in high school he often felt like he did not fit in with anyone
other than his friend Eric whom he developed a hatred ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Eric Harris is described by experts as a textbook example of a psychopath. Just like Dylan, Eric also
did not feel like he fit in with other students despite the fact that Eric was more talkative and was alot
more outgoing than Dylan. Eric was also a very angry person but most most of the time stayed very
calm under pressure unlike Dylan, but he would rant about his anger on his own personal website, a
website filled with violent tirades against the people who were mean to Eric or anyone he simply did
not like. Eric was believed to be a psychopath with no remorse or empathy for the things he was going
to do which is most likely why he was so okay with killing as many people as possible and really just
releasing all his pinned up fury against the place that he hated most. Dylan and Eric had a very strange
chemistry between their often very different personalities. Even though their personalities were often
very different they were both very skilled at math and even had a mutual love of technology. The
reason these two really clicked though is because they could play off each others strengths pretty well
in a variety of situations. For example when they had a run in with the cops Dylan often panicked but
Eric remained

The Pros And Cons Of Radioactivity
Radioactivity has been around since the 1800s. It is very popular in the medical field. It is used my
many professionals to help diagnose and treat people every single day. Although it does have some
advantages and disadvantages, people still use it to this day. Radioactivity is defined as the
spontaneous emission of particles . (Nuclear Energy). Radioactivity is caused by an unbalanced
nucleus in the cell. This happens because there is either an uneven number of protons and/or neutrons.
When this happens, the element is considered to have multiple isotopes. An isotope is an atom with
the same number of protons but a different number of neutrons. Thus, they have different atomic
weights. This is important to know because there is a such thing as a radioactive isotope. These
elements just have additional energy, and they release radiation in different forms. There are over 800
radioactive isotopes, some of which are natural and some synthetic. (Helmenstine). Radioactive
elements can be both artificial and natural. However, in medicine, most of them are more than likely
synthetic, since they are the most popular types. The use of radioactive elements in medicine is still
growing to this day. Many oncologists use it to treat their patients who have cancer. Many cancer
patients use this option. They use the radiation to kill off cancer cells. X ray technicians or radiologists
will also use it to administer x rays to people who may have a broken bone, or need an MRI. The
patient is injected with a radioactive material that helps the doctor be able to see inside the body
better, whether it be with pictures or ultrasound. Radioactive material is defined as material that
contains radioactivity and thus emits ionizing radiation. It may be material that contains natural
radioactivity from the environment or a material that may have been made radioactive. (The Healthy
Physics Society). This happens when someone needs a colonoscopy. They have to drink or are
injected with this liquid that helps their organs and all other masses in the body be seen better by the
radioactive materials. There are many advantages and disadvantages to the use of radioactive elements
in medicines. Some advantages include the fact that

Universal Truth Of Conflict In Shakespeare s Romeo And Juliet
Conflict plays a large role in our daily lives. In William Shakespeare s play Romeo and Juliet there are
five universal truths. These truths are conflict, love, communication, timing, and reputation. Conflict
is the most important truth focused on in Romeo and Juliet. Act three emphasizes conflict more so
than any of the other acts. Shakespeare conveyed the truth of conflict in Romeo and Juliet to reveal the
impact conflict has in daily life. The role conflict plays in daily life is revealed through Mercutio being
killed, Tybalt being killed in retribution, and the essay by Romeo and Juliet has a central focus on
conflict. The whole play is centered around two feuding families in the city of Verona. These families
are feuding due to each one ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Thematic Framework of Romeo and Juliet then focuses on the various aspects about that
complexity, including conflict. Complexity, however, does not lead to conflict. Complexity is conflict.
Without conflict, nothing would be complex because complexity requires different options that are not
easily chosen between, or other types of problems. Bowling wrote, This theme often comes out in the
form of paradox, since the characters are constantly being shocked and surprised that one quality of a
thing is often in sharp disagreement with some other quality (Bowling). Bowling agrees with the
analysis of Romeo and Juliet having a central focus on conflict. Throughout the play there are
conflicting meanings often confuse the reader as well as the characters. These paradoxes are included
to show the profound effect of conflict within communication. Without conflict, which is a
disagreement between people or options, there would be no complexity. The Thematic Framework of
Romeo and Juliet continues to focus on the complexity of the word choice in Romeo and Juliet. There
are conflicting meanings within Romeo and Juliet that lead to confusion between characters, leading
to the overall conflict between the Montagues and Capulets. Conflict is this shown to act as a catalyst
in daily life through these

 Grid Connected Photovoltaic System with Single stage Buck Boost Inverter Ch.Srinivas Reddy,
Assistant Professor; Ranga Purushotham, Associate Professor; and P.Parthasaradi Reddy, Associate
Professor Guru Nanak Institutions Technical Campus, Ibrahimpatnam, Hyderabad, India Abstract for
very high voltage gain of a Photo Voltaic system, this paper proposed a buck boost inverter of single
stage. DCM (Discontinuous conduction mode) and MPPT (maximum power point tracking) is
employed to get one power factor. Minimization of switching losses is employed with only two
switches and operated at very high frequency. Easy control capability, optimum size, affordable cost
with high voltage gain made the system employable. AC voltage conversion is achieved along with
boosting of DC voltage of Photo Voltaic system of inverter. Obstacle shadow variations also reduced
by means of having the possibility of reduced series connected modules; this ability is due to the high
voltage gain. Since the proposed design has the two buck boost converter each one operates for only
one half cycle and the Discontinuous conduction mode operates at unit power factor. Simulation
results assure the proposed idea of the single stage interleaved inverter for high voltage gain
applications. Index Terms Single Stage, Buck Boost Inverter, Low Cost, Grid Connected, PV system,

Comparing Fortune In Hamlet And The Prince
Hamlet, written by William Shakespeare, is a play about a prince who needs to get revenge for the
murder of his father. The Prince, written by Niccolò Machiavelli, is a treatise on how to take and hold
on to political power. Both Hamlet and The Prince contain the concept of fortune as a common theme
throughout each work. Fortune is talked about in similar ways in both, including how fortune is a
woman, how much control fortune has over people, and how fortune is like water. Fortune is
associated with the goddess Fortuna from Roman mythology in both Hamlet and The Prince. Fortuna
is the Roman goddess of luck, fate, and fortune. Fortuna is referred to in a sexual manner by both
Shakespeare and Machiavelli. In Hamlet she is referred to as a strumpet: ... Show more content on

(Shakespeare 121)
Again, Fortune is called a strumpet, as First Player pleads with all the other gods to destroy her wheel,
sending the hub of the wheel rolling down from heaven into hell. Fortune is also personified in The
Prince:
My opinion on the matter is this: it s better to be impulsive than cautious; fortune is female and if you
want to stay on top of her you have to slap and thrust. (Machiavelli 136 137)
Machiavelli is using sex as a metaphor to say that to subdue Fortune, one must be impulsive and assert
their dominance over her. Hamlet believes he leaves too much up to fortune because he thinks too
much without taking enough action. In his to be or not to be soliloquy, he reflects on how he
overthinks things, saying conscience does make cowards of us all . Hamlet wishes he wasn t like this
and admires people like Horatio and Fortinbras for taking action and not letting fortune control them.
Hamlet praises Horatio for the way he deals with fortune:
A man that fortune s buffets and rewards
Hast ta en with equal thanks: and blessed are those

That they are not a pipe for Fortune s finger

M1 Unit 1 Analysis
Unit 1 Assessment Transformation is a dramatic change in form that signals excitement, momentum
and opportunity for something to go wrong. My house went through transformation that was terrifying
and shocking to my family. The night after Christmas and our house caught on fire. There are many
stories meant to scare us, but how did they use transformation to elicit fear in the reader? Many stories
use transformation in humans, objects, and settings to elicit fear. Reading these stories is frightening
when you become engaged in the characters and setting. Transformation in human emotions can create
fear because we become captivated in the characters feelings. In The Fall of the House of Usher, the
narrator, Roderick, and Madeline transform. The narrator notices increasing madness of Usher as his
skin grows whiter, his normal routine was forgotten, and he roamed through the house or stared into
space for hours. The Narrator is frightened because he believes he is beginning to feel infected by
Usher s condition. The Narrator fears that he too may be going mad. These feelings ... Show more

In this unit stories acquire houses transforming. The story House Taken Over contains mystery as a
stranger walks in and creates an evil and uncertain atmosphere. The stranger explains that it was
always dark in the house when he lived there. After the stranger left, the house began to transform into
what the stranger described. The living room lights flickered, the wallpaper seemed drained of color,
and the carpet fading...The door frame had receded an inch or two. The house transforming elicits fear
because we don t feel comfortable when the house start to change especially after a strange man
entered with peculiar requests. In The Fall of the House of Usher the house also transforms when the
house implodes on itself and creates a dark mood. These houses transformation frightens us as they

How Philanthropy Is Overrated
Philanthropy is almost the only virtue which is sufficiently appreciated by mankind.
I can get behind this idea about how philanthropy is overrated. I m sure Thoreau is referring to
extremely affluent people who give away portions of their hard earned cash simply because it makes
them look like better people and they will be respected and glorified as charitable benefactors. In
reality, this person has given hardly a fraction of their total worth and is unjustly honored by the
monetary standards of those who aren t that rich. Thoreau also says, Nay, it is greatly overrated; and it
is our selfishness which overrates it. The previous example is a prime case in which it is selfishness
(of the benefactor) that overrates the philanthropy. Those

Chysalids Compared To By The Waters Of Babylon Essay
Two very good stories are The Chrysalids by John Wyndham and By The Waters Of Babylon by
Stephen Vincent Benet. Both these stories are sci fi and depict what human civilizations will be like
after a nuclear holocaust. The result of the holocaust has altered the Hill People and Waknuk people s
morals and religious beliefs. The main difference between the stories is one is viewing the future as
positive the other is portraying the future negatively. The Chrysalids was a better story. It portrayed
what humans act like. In the following paragraphs many points will be looked upon to prove that The
Chrysalids is a better story.

The story By the Waters of Babylon is about a young man named John. He is the son of a priest in his
community. He ventures off into the dead places. While sleeping in an old building from the old
people, he has a dream. It is about a city with bright lights and funny looking objects. He then seeks
out this city of the gods. On his quest he finds the truth, about the old people. They did not have magic
but they had technology instead. John brings back the news and tells his father. His father accepts the
truth and they slowly tell their community.
The Chrysalids and By The Waters Of Babylon also have many similarities in plot. The main character
in both stories travels to forbidden lands. Also the main characters were both sons of highly respected
men in their communities. Both of the characters end up with a better life in the end. Both characters
have dreams about the truth which makes them go on quests.
These novels had some differences in plot as well, but not too many. One main difference is that the
societies view dead places differently. Waknuk views dead places as a place of the devil in comparison

They feel their story is not just for an industry audience, but for everyone; government officials, labor
leaders, industry executives and general readers, in every country with an interest in how society goes
about making things. The best way to describe lean production is to contrast it to its predecessors:
craft production and mass production. Craft production uses highly skilled workers and simple but
flexible tools to make exactly what the consumer asks for, one item at a time. The result is that
consumers get exactly what they want but at a prohibitively high cost. Mass production uses narrowly
skilled professionals to design products made by unskilled or semiskilled workers tending expensive,
single purpose machines. The machines produce standardized products in very high volume. Due to
the high cost of disruption of the process, the mass producer adds many buffers extra supplies,
workers and space to assure smooth production. Also due to high cost of changing over to a new
product, the mass producer keeps standard designs in production as long as possible. The result is the
consumer gets lower costs but at the expense of variety, and workers tend to find their part of the
process boring. Lean production, by contrast, uses teams of multiskilled workers at all levels of the
organization, and uses highly flexible, increasingly automated machines to produce large volumes of
products in enormous variety. The term

Radiology Vs Accounting
When I was younger I didn t really know what I wanted to be. I knew some things that I liked to do,
like help people or anything that has to do with money, but I wasn t really sure what I wanted to major
in. Entering into college I was trying to figure out what major I would like to pursue in. I was looking
in radiology and accounting. Finding more information about radiology and accountancy will help me

A Lecture Hall Is Filled At The Brim With College Students
Imagine this scenario: a lecture hall is filled to the brim with college students, more than half of the
students are either daydreaming about the upcoming weekend or texting on their phones. Their
professor stands in the front of the hall trying to give his prepared lecture, but the majority of his
students are not paying attention. What shall the professor do to motivate his students to pay attention
in class? He announces to them that if they can fully engage themselves in his lecture for the rest of
the class time, he will give them each five dollars. The students are suddenly all ears, pens ready to
take notes, eyes glued to the front of the room, in hopes of receiving the professor s incentive. Does
this seem like a harmless scenario for a desperate professor to motivate his students? While there are
possibly individuals who would agree that the scenario is not invoking any harm on the students, there
are others who would argue that paying students to try in school takes away their motivation to
actually learn. Among the latter stands Alfie Kohn, author or Punished By Rewards: The Trouble with
Gold Stars, Incentive Plans, A s, Praise, and Other Bribes, who would be appalled by the professor s
actions. Kohn s book challenges the common phenomenon of using rewards in everyday life in
dealing with others. With examples pulled from schools, the workplace, and even households, he
demonstrates to his audience that rewards have become means of controlling one another than as

Introduction Inside of each body contains two kidneys which are bean shaped, and are found on the
right and are found on the right and left sides of our body. Kidneys filter all the blood in the body
which ends up making urine and removing wastes. The kidneys also release and retain water. The
excretory system consists of the kidneys, ureters, urethra, and urinary bladder. Each kidney processes
urine out into the bladder, through the ureter tubes. The kidneys maintain acid base and the balance of
ions and electrolytes in the blood so the body maintains homeostasis. Blood enters through renal ...

by low renal perfusion. Intrinsic renal is damage to the glomeruli and renal tubes. Pre renal causes
depleted blood flow to the kidney and lowers the glomerular filtration rate. Pre renal symptoms are
blood and fluid loss, and hemorrhaging. Blood pressure medications also can cause pre renal disease.
Pre renal disease also leads to heart attack, heart disease, liver failure, severe burns, dehydration, and
severe allergic reactions. Intrinsic renal disease causes blood clots in veins, arteries, blood flow in and
kidneys. Cholesterol deposits block blood flow in kidneys.
Toxins such as alcohol, and cocaine also effect the kidney. Intrinsic is direct damage to the kidney.
Post renal disease is mainly from urinary obstructions such as kidney stones and tumors. Prostatic

cause? The cause of the volcano occur when an underground chamber overflows creating an explosion
out the top of the volcano. Volcanoes can have effects on the land and its people.
When volcanoes erupt they can have some drastic but beautiful changes to the earth. The author of the
informational article, Russell McDonaugh, states that Depending on the location of the volcano, it can
take thousands of years of weathering for the ash and rock deposits to form a rich soil. When they do
become soils, they are often among the richest soils on earth. Volcanic soils are very fertile and can
help plants grow very fast with the nutrients in the soil. Volcanos are very good for the land maybe,
after a couple thousand years, but sometimes the beauty of the nature is destroyed by the ongoing

Essay On Taj Mahal

Taj Mahal, a marvelous white marbled mahal, symbolizes the beauty of love, and misery, is one of the
seven wonders of the world. Taj Mahal was built during the Mughal Period when Mughals (Muslims)
from Persia, Afghanistan, and many parts of middle east conquered India. It was built by fifth Mughal
emperor Shah Jahan who ruled India during the early 17th century. He constructed the divine Taj in
the memory of his begum (wife) Mumtaz Mahal. Mumtaz Mahal was a Persian Muslim Princess, who
married Shah Jahan in 1612 (tajmahal.gov.in Staff). Soon after begum s death, Taj Mahal s

Discuss the Ways In Which Two Poems In The Anthology Explore The
Effects Of Untimely Death
When men went to war, there was every chance of them dying. But, their friends and family could
never had prepared themselves for news of that person s death. Untimely death is a theme which is
explored throughout the anthology in many ways, in particular, looking at the effects of the news of
death upon loved ones.
The Seed Merchant s Son is a poem by Agnes Grozier Herbertson that conveys the bereavement that a
man feels for his son who has died at war. This poem continuously emphasises the youth of the boy,
which constantly reiterates the idea of untimely death, as the boy died before he could live a full life.

The author uses elipses toward the end of the poem to generate a dramatic silence which could be seen
as the silence after the death of the young soldier had been told to his father and the shock and
desperation that the man felt during that time. The man would have thought about his son who had
never before seen seed or sod . This line uses sibilance which has a threatening sound to it which
could be interpreted as the fear that the young soldiers would all have to go through knowing that they
might never again feel a sence of solace.
By the end of this poem, the man has come to terms with the boy s death as although the man is
sadened, he is very proud of his son for fighting for his country. The man murmurs thank G d, thank G
d , showing that he is proud of his son for the sacrifice he made.
Another poem in the anthology that portrays the pathos involved and explores the repracussions of
untimely death is The Deserter by
Winifred M. Letts, which tells of the soldiers being forced to go to war and being dogged by fear . The
author writes how one man who
could not face the German guns was shot by an English bullet in his heart for desertion. He was shot

The Star Of Star Stars
Our universe is made of millions of objects, many of them, we wonder how they became part of this
planet we live on. The star is one of these objects, sometimes we wonder how they maintain their
brightness and attractiveness. The main sequence stars, red dwarf stars and white dwarf stars are some
of these objects. The stages of each star are very different and have different variations of life. The life
of each star varies being that the longest a star can survive is up to trillions of years. There are trillions
of stars that sparkle in the sky and each star are very different from each other and are very unique.
Main sequence stars, Red dwarf stars and the white dwarf stars are all very unique in every way.
A large portion of the stars in the universe, around about 90 percent of them, are principle main

about a tenth of the mass of the sun to up to 200 times larger. Stars are the magnificent bodies like the
sun that are extremely hot and have light they could call their own. Each star is a tremendous mass of
hot gasses and enormous flares that are leaving it. Stars are comprised of endless billows of hydrogen

Family Honor And Obedient Sacrifice In The Scarlet Letter...
Family Honor Obedient Sacrifice
Varying from person to person, the ideology of family culture tends to differ. Many people would
define their own family culture differently, but there are times when it may overlap with another
person. Throughout our world, there are many cultures. These can be divided into subcategories such
as people or ethnic groups within a community to the social aspect of society. When it comes to
specific cultures, it may result in people behaving or thinking a certain way. This ties into conformity.
The question of whether or not conforming to society may bring honor or prevent shame to an
individual or group is something that could be debateable. This paper will be exploring the idea of
conformity between Scarlet Letter and Red Azalea. Both stories contain a womanly figure who takes
charge in dealing with difficulties that may arise.
The general idea of culture that is ingrained into the brains of many people, may consist of associating
culture with countries or ethnic groups. One of the main key points to this term is that it incorporates
much more than just those two aspects. When viewing it from a sociological perspective, culture can
be deconstructed into 3 components. Through background knowledge after taking a sociology class,
values, norms, and artifacts when combined, is what defines the term culture. These aspects that create
culture, can differentiate a family from one another. When taking the broad idea of culture and then

Are Video Games Art No But Playing Them Can Be Summary
In response to the article titled, Are Video Games Art? No But Playing Them Can Be, by author Phil
Hartup, he makes the argument that video games are not art, but rather the audience that engages
themselves in playing them makes it art. The author uses examples such as Mona Lisa and Michael
Bay just to support his claim, and while his claims are interesting, some of the stuff he says can be
ridiculous, in my opinion. I, myself, disagree with most of his claims. Video games have a big
influence on communities just like art, and not only that, but without graphic ARTISTS, we wouldn t
be able to have these video games that we have today. Video games, in my opinion have so much
creativity in them that they should be considered as art.
Hartup introduces his claim by giving examples of art such as the Mona Lisa and a few examples of
things with what Michael Bay does in movies. There is no direct dialogue with art, says Hartup, in
which this case, I must disagree. They say that a picture is worth a thousand words, meaning that all
those details in paintings you see must give you some dialogue if you think about it. Many people
around the world are influenced and engaged with the dialogue of art, trying to find a deep meaning to
them, just like they are engaged in most video games in the same way. There is a lot of controversy

The Relativity Of Deviance And The Sociological Theory
The Relativity of Deviance Deviance in sociological terms can be defined as any form of deviation
from the social norms, or laws. Additionally, deviance is considered relative, as in what constitutes as
deviant varies from person to person. Howard S. Becker, an American sociologist and researcher of
deviancy once stated, It s not the act itself, but the reactions to the act, that makes something deviant
(Becker/Henslin 1966). In other words, any action or behavior that draws a reaction out of someone
could theoretically be a deviant act. However, Becker wasn t the first sociologist fascinated with
deviancy, nor will he be the last. Since the late eighteen hundreds sociologists have gained a
considerable perspective regarding deviancy, consequently coming up with three primary theories
explaining its significance and function. Sociologist Émile Durkheim explained deviance through a
functionalist approach. Durkheim explains that, deviance has several functions, it clarifies norms and
increases conformity and it strengthens bonds among the people reacting to the deviant (Barkan 2017).
The side effect of this a marginalization of those whose economic or cultural backgrounds don t
coincide with the majority. Sociologist Robert Merton states that the result of deviance among the
underprivileged is the result of a gap between the cultural emphasis on economic success and the
inability to achieve such success (Merton 1938). As a result, a

Smartphones Are Destroying The New Generation Essay
Smartphones Are Destroying the New Generation Children who have been born since 1995 have
never known a world without smartphones and a constant social media connection. Theirs is a
generation shaped by the smartphone and by the concomitant rise of social media (Twenge).
Smartphones have caused rapid shifts in the latest generation, affecting happiness levels, mental
health, social development, and academic performance; therefore, parents need to recognize the
negative impact and reduce the accessibility. Big Changes Compared to Previous Generations A study
that analyzed generational data since 1930 saw abrupt shifts around 2012, especially regarding teen
emotional states and behaviors. There was a disappearance of significant distinctive characteristics of
the Millennials (Twenge). Millennials are a highly individualistic generation (Twenge), even more so
than previous generations. However, suddenly, in the current generation, the allure of independence,
so powerful to previous generations, holds less sway over today s teens (Twenge). They don t leave
the house much without their parents; in fact, 12th graders in 2015 went out less than 8th graders in
2009. Today, teens are radically different from Millennials in their views and time usage (Twenge).
They don t date as much as previous generations, even as seniors in High School. The experiences
they have every day are radically different from those of the generation that came of age just a few

The Language Of Sex, And The Invention Of Sexuality
With today s society growing more accepting sex has never been harder to define. Historically society
has found ways to conceptualize everything from sex to sex work. However, with conceptualization
come consequences. The language we use, the historical concepts we hold on to and the approaches
we take on topics effects our views. Our language can change depending on who is being talked about
and our historical concepts can become weak the deeper we discuss a concept. Sex is a complicated
topic and can cause tension around negotiations in recognizing different ways of understanding it. All
of these approaches to sex have always been, and still is, the locus of so much debate precisely
because what is being investigated has never been, and likely never will, be completely agreed upon.
Throughout both Week s articles The Language of Sex and The Invention of Sexuality takes up the
issue of an essentialist approach to sex . There are consequences to thinking about sex and gender as
mainly caused by biological factors. If we change the word breast to ankle for the sake of argument.
How does society learn that ankles are sexual, how did we come to learn that breasts are sexual?
Perhaps by the media, dress codes or our parents. If we look at sex and gender from an essentialist
approach we began to realize how unstable the concept is. Breasts are a body part and it is culture that
has sexualized them, not biological factors. When people start to come out

Julius Ceasar
Shakespeare presents Cassiu s character as complex character, torn, on the one hand between his
loyalty and love for a childhood friend and his true patriotism for his country, Rome, on the other,
along with its future at hands of tyrannical, self seeking and despotic king, Julius Ceasar, who would
sop at nothing to fulfill his ambitions and his megalomaniacal lust for power. Considering the depth,
extent and magnitude of Cassius s manipulative competecies, what could have been his inner motive
when Ceasar defeated Pompeii and annexed the Roman crown what that Casar, his long term friend
and confidante, would provide Cassius with formidable powerful position under his command, but this
was not to be. Ceasar s vaulting ambitions perhaps did not reserve place for Cassuis, and the core
seeds of bitterness was sown due to this callousness on the part of Ceasar. The growing power,
prestige and pomp of Ceasar was indeed an eyesore for Cassius since these were aspects which he
himself wanted to have too he also hated how Caesar runs around like a god why, ... Show more

Cassius ironically said to Brutus You bear too stubborn and too strange a hand over your friend that
loves you. (1.2.35 36) and in Act 4 scene 3 when questioning Brutus he says Have you not love
enough to bear w/ me when that rash humor which my mother gave me makes me forgetful? , Also
when he was trying to persuade Brutus to join him, he tries to lower him so that he could feel sorry for
himself by saying Brutus, that you don t have any mirrors that could display your hidden excellence to
yourself. I ve heard many of the nobelst Romans next to immortal Ceasar sppeaking of you,
complaning of the tryanny of toyday s government, and wishing that your eyes were working bettter.

Jesus The Son Of God Research Paper
Whether or not Jesus was truly the Son of God is a question that theologians and philosophers have
been trying to answer for centuries. One might also ask the question, Was Jesus even a Divine Man?
Interestingly enough, Jesus was not the only man though to be divine in nature. People living in the
Greco Roman world reference ancient sources to highlight their belief that numerous individuals
obtain divine qualities and characteristics. The person of Jesus is one of the most influential characters
in human history and this is why it is so important to investigate whether or not he was who he said he
was. In this paper, I will work to highlight some of these examples of other divine men and leave it up
to you to decide whether or not Jesus was divine himself. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In both the stories of Jesus s birth and Alexander the Great s birth it is said that they had been
conceived through the agency of a God. To begin, let s look at Luke 1: 34 35, How will this be, Mary
asked the angel, since I am a virgin? The angel answered, The Holy Spirit will come on you, and the
power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the holy one to be born will become the Son of God.
This is a reference to the virgin birth. Jesus was thought to be born of a virgin and therefore was only
conceived because the Holy Spirit gave her a child. Similarly, in the legend of Alexander the Great s
birth, it is believed that a God had lain with the mother of Alexander in the form of a serpent; which
then gave way to the birth of Alexander the Great. Does this not also make Alexander that Great a Son
of God? These similar stories make it less unique of an idea that Jesus was born by the agency of

Sexual Violence In College Essay
Within the last few years conversations about a long surviving issue have resurfaced, managing to
draw the attention of hibernating authorities of higher education institutions across the United States.
A stream of alleged cases of Title IX violations leading to investigations at some of the most
prestigious universities across the country have opened up a dialogue between students and the
administration about sexual violence on college campuses. The recently conducted campus climate
survey on sexual assault and sexual misconduct by the Association of American Universities (AAU)
reflects this growing concern among students over the issue of sexual violence on campus and the
administration s ability to handle these cases. The survey shows the tragic yet unsurprising reality of
higher education institutions where roughly 1 in 5 undergraduate women experience sexual assault on
college campuses within their first year. While these chilling statistics depend on gender, class year,
and education level (graduate versus undergraduate students) and vary somewhat from one university
to another, even a small number of sexual violence crimes should be deemed unacceptable. In the
words of our ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The ubiquity of sexual violence in society, and indeed in these universities, is belied by these figures
as they deny the intrinsic nature of sexual violence in our culture. Dr. Karns attempts to remedy
underreporting of sexual assault by integrating the expected number of cases of sexual assault,
generated by accounting for gender ratio of each institution and national statistics on frequency of
sexual assault, in her data along with the actually reported incidents. Consequently, we expect a more
realistic representation of the frequency of sexual assaults and the underreporting of this crime on
college campuses through Dr. Karns s

Southwest Airlines And The State Of Texas
Back in March of 1967, Southwest Airlines was first founded under a different name, Air Southwest
Company, by Rollin King and Herb Kelleher . With his own funds of $500 thousand, Kelleher filed an
application with the Texas Aeronautics Commission for the right to fly commercial airplanes in the
state of Texas. In February 20th of 1968, the Texas Aeronautics Commission voted unanimously,
granting Air Southwest a certificate of public convenience and necessity. The following day, Braniff,
Trans Texas (later known as Texas International), and Continental Airlines obtained a restraining order
from Travis County District, prohibiting the certificate to be delivered to Air Southwest Company . Air
Southwest Company tried to file appeal with the Austin State District Court and the Third Court of
Civil Appeals. Both courts ruled against Air Southwest, forcing Herb Kelleher to appeal with the
Texas Supreme Court. The Texas Supreme Court unanimously voted to overturn the lower court s
decisions and ruled in favor of Air Southwest . In December of 1970, the United States Supreme Court
denied the appeal by Braniff and Texas International to remove Air Southwest certification . In 1983,
Winifred Barnum, a children s author and illustrator, wrote a children s book based on Southwest s
legal fight called Gumwrappers and Goggle. In Jan 1st of 1971, Lamar Muse joined Air Southwest as
the President. In March of 1971, Lamar Muse raised $1.25 million for the company by selling
promissory

  • 2. Globalization of the Automotive Industry Essays Just like the other industries such as apparel, electronics, and consumer goods, the automobile industry has accelerated its foreign direct investment, cross border trade and global production. The automobile industry has increased outsourcing and bundled value chain activities in major supplier chains. As a result, more developed countries that serve as suppliers have increased their involvement in trade and FDI. With these increased supplier capabilities, large national suppliers have become global suppliers and are now controlling multinational operations. This is because of their increased capability of providing good and services to various lead firms all over the world. The automotive industry has a distinct firm structure. This ... Participation of developing economies in globalization of the automotive industry was enhanced by innovations in telecommunication, technology development, and transportation. These elements made it possible for the industry to fragment its production processes and creation of smaller assembling plants that were located in different regions of the world. This segmentation of production processes created multiple global production networks and expanded the global market making many developing countries reap the benefits of globalizing the automotive industry (Maxcy 108). The auto industry adopted new globalization trends that could steer the restructuring of global manufacturing in order to meet the challenges of global economies. There was the need to improve on efficiency and maintain a competitive level in the automobile industry. Automotive manufacturers from Asia, Europe, and the US adopted global trends such as integrating low income countries into the global division of labor. The aim of the automobile industry in adopting globalization was to enable it shift from the economies of scale to the economies of scope. Urbanization Is A Necessary Process For A Country Introduction Urbanization is a necessary process for countries to develop, this process is a process which require time and great amounts of money, which can lead to a number of different problems during and after completion of this stage. A lot of factors play roles that lead to inequalities amongst the citizens. This paper looks at challenges that can reside in poor urban residents, identifies causes and also highlights ways in which that can be used reduces them. Urbanization Urbanization is the increase in urban population, this occurs when the rural population shifts from rural areas to urban regions for better job opportunities and better facilities (wiki)2. Urbanization can be seen as a crucial and necessary process for a country to develop. It can also be used to measure a country s wealth as it provides opportunities for sustainability and the usage of resources more efficiently affecting areas both positively and negatively by influencing the social, economic and environmental changes of a country (wiki)2. The process of urbanization requires time, land and money, when most of a country s population reside in urban areas the level of urbanization becomes high and showing the country s level of development and industrialism. The market and the industry are part of the labour that produces and distributes; both factors interrelate with each other. However, stars contribute themselves into making commodities; both labour and what labour produces. Dyer (2005) argues stars as commodities are distributed in several stages. Firstly, successful commodities are created from stars with a reputable image, as the work of fashioning the star out of the raw material of the person, varies in the degree to which it respects what artists refer to as inherent qualities of the material; make up, coiffure, clothing, dieting and body building can all make more or less ... However, Dyer (2002) argues certain objections of sheer manipulation; firstly, not all manipulation works due to stars fluctuating audience responses from their careers, i.e.: Anna Sten in The Great Stars. In contradiction to Boorstin and Marcuse, Dyer s interpretation of manipulation are raised against the view of the star phenomenon. They believe that having courage is defined as aspiring to become strong or to become a warrior. The author, however, believes in a different kind of courage that these people do not have. In To Kill a Mockingbird, the author, Harper Lee defines courage not as being a hero or a warrior, but as regular people. What makes these regular people courageous is not their physical bravery, but their mental bravery. The most prominent examples of courage are Atticus defending Tom, Mrs. Dubose giving up her morphine addiction, and the jury member who believed that Tom was innocent. • 11. The Pros And Cons Of Radioactivity Radioactivity has been around since the 1800s. It is very popular in the medical field. It is used my many professionals to help diagnose and treat people every single day. Although it does have some advantages and disadvantages, people still use it to this day. Radioactivity is defined as the spontaneous emission of particles . (Nuclear Energy). Radioactivity is caused by an unbalanced nucleus in the cell. This happens because there is either an uneven number of protons and/or neutrons. When this happens, the element is considered to have multiple isotopes. An isotope is an atom with the same number of protons but a different number of neutrons. Thus, they have different atomic weights. This is important to know because there is a such thing as a radioactive isotope. These elements just have additional energy, and they release radiation in different forms. There are over 800 radioactive isotopes, some of which are natural and some synthetic. (Helmenstine). Radioactive elements can be both artificial and natural. However, in medicine, most of them are more than likely synthetic, since they are the most popular types. The use of radioactive elements in medicine is still growing to this day. Many oncologists use it to treat their patients who have cancer. Many cancer patients use this option. They use the radiation to kill off cancer cells. X ray technicians or radiologists will also use it to administer x rays to people who may have a broken bone, or need an MRI. The patient is injected with a radioactive material that helps the doctor be able to see inside the body better, whether it be with pictures or ultrasound. Radioactive material is defined as material that contains radioactivity and thus emits ionizing radiation. It may be material that contains natural radioactivity from the environment or a material that may have been made radioactive. (The Healthy Physics Society). This happens when someone needs a colonoscopy. These truths are conflict, love, communication, timing, and reputation. Conflict is the most important truth focused on in Romeo and Juliet. Act three emphasizes conflict more so than any of the other acts. Shakespeare conveyed the truth of conflict in Romeo and Juliet to reveal the impact conflict has in daily life. Bowling wrote, This theme often comes out in the form of paradox, since the characters are constantly being shocked and surprised that one quality of a thing is often in sharp disagreement with some other quality (Bowling). Bowling agrees with the analysis of Romeo and Juliet having a central focus on conflict. Throughout the play there are conflicting meanings often confuse the reader as well as the characters. These paradoxes are included to show the profound effect of conflict within communication. Without conflict, which is a disagreement between people or options, there would be no complexity. The Thematic Framework of Romeo and Juliet continues to focus on the complexity of the word choice in Romeo and Juliet. DCM (Discontinuous conduction mode) and MPPT (maximum power point tracking) is employed to get one power factor. Minimization of switching losses is employed with only two switches and operated at very high frequency. Easy control capability, optimum size, affordable cost with high voltage gain made the system employable. AC voltage conversion is achieved along with boosting of DC voltage of Photo Voltaic system of inverter. Obstacle shadow variations also reduced by means of having the possibility of reduced series connected modules; this ability is due to the high voltage gain. Since the proposed design has the two buck boost converter each one operates for only one half cycle and the Discontinuous conduction mode operates at unit power factor. Simulation results assure the proposed idea of the single stage interleaved inverter for high voltage gain applications. They feel their story is not just for an industry audience, but for everyone; government officials, labor leaders, industry executives and general readers, in every country with an interest in how society goes about making things. The best way to describe lean production is to contrast it to its predecessors: craft production and mass production. Craft production uses highly skilled workers and simple but flexible tools to make exactly what the consumer asks for, one item at a time. The result is that consumers get exactly what they want but at a prohibitively high cost. Mass production uses narrowly skilled professionals to design products made by unskilled or semiskilled workers tending expensive, single purpose machines. The machines produce standardized products in very high volume. Due to the high cost of disruption of the process, the mass producer adds many buffers extra supplies, workers and space to assure smooth production. Also due to high cost of changing over to a new product, the mass producer keeps standard designs in production as long as possible. The result is the consumer gets lower costs but at the expense of variety, and workers tend to find their part of the process boring. Lean production, by contrast, uses teams of multiskilled workers at all levels of the organization, and uses highly flexible, increasingly automated machines to produce large volumes of products in enormous variety. A Lecture Hall Is Filled At The Brim With College Students Imagine this scenario: a lecture hall is filled to the brim with college students, more than half of the students are either daydreaming about the upcoming weekend or texting on their phones. Their professor stands in the front of the hall trying to give his prepared lecture, but the majority of his students are not paying attention. What shall the professor do to motivate his students to pay attention in class? He announces to them that if they can fully engage themselves in his lecture for the rest of the class time, he will give them each five dollars. The students are suddenly all ears, pens ready to take notes, eyes glued to the front of the room, in hopes of receiving the professor s incentive. Does this seem like a harmless scenario for a desperate professor to motivate his students? While there are possibly individuals who would agree that the scenario is not invoking any harm on the students, there are others who would argue that paying students to try in school takes away their motivation to actually learn. Among the latter stands Alfie Kohn, author or Punished By Rewards: The Trouble with Gold Stars, Incentive Plans, A s, Praise, and Other Bribes, who would be appalled by the professor s actions. • 36. The Relativity Of Deviance And The Sociological Theory The Relativity of Deviance Deviance in sociological terms can be defined as any form of deviation from the social norms, or laws. Additionally, deviance is considered relative, as in what constitutes as deviant varies from person to person. Howard S. Becker, an American sociologist and researcher of deviancy once stated, It s not the act itself, but the reactions to the act, that makes something deviant (Becker/Henslin 1966). In other words, any action or behavior that draws a reaction out of someone could theoretically be a deviant act. However, Becker wasn t the first sociologist fascinated with deviancy, nor will he be the last. Since the late eighteen hundreds sociologists have gained a considerable perspective regarding deviancy, consequently coming up with three primary theories explaining its significance and function. Sociologist Émile Durkheim explained deviance through a functionalist approach. Durkheim explains that, deviance has several functions, it clarifies norms and increases conformity and it strengthens bonds among the people reacting to the deviant (Barkan 2017). The side effect of this a marginalization of those whose economic or cultural backgrounds don t coincide with the majority. Sociologist Robert Merton states that the result of deviance among the underprivileged is the result of a gap between the cultural emphasis on economic success and the inability to achieve such success (Merton 1938). • 41. American Romanticism Controversy The first thing we must look at is characteristics of American Romanticism typical in the story and in the protagonist. Initially, the issue of this story is that a minister, Father Hooper, that one day comes to a sermon with a black veil covering his face. The outcome of this was a whole controversy in the little town, though does not show signs of discomfort. The characteristics focused on in this parable are from the view of adulthood as corruption and betrayal, (source 3) to an individual separate from the masses, (source 3), and feelings, emotions, and imagination take priority over logic and facts.(source 3) The view of adulthood can be seen on page 3 when he gives the psalm with the black veil on, Did he seek to hide from the dread ... • 42. The Language Of Sex, And The Invention Of Sexuality With today s society growing more accepting sex has never been harder to define. Historically society has found ways to conceptualize everything from sex to sex work. However, with conceptualization come consequences. The language we use, the historical concepts we hold on to and the approaches we take on topics effects our views. Our language can change depending on who is being talked about and our historical concepts can become weak the deeper we discuss a concept. Sex is a complicated topic and can cause tension around negotiations in recognizing different ways of understanding it. All of these approaches to sex have always been, and still is, the locus of so much debate precisely because what is being investigated has never been, and likely never will, be completely agreed upon. Throughout both Week s articles The Language of Sex and The Invention of Sexuality takes up the issue of an essentialist approach to sex . There are consequences to thinking about sex and gender as mainly caused by biological factors. If we change the word breast to ankle for the sake of argument. How does society learn that ankles are sexual, how did we come to learn that breasts are sexual? Perhaps by the media, dress codes or our parents. If we look at sex and gender from an essentialist approach we began to realize how unstable the concept is. Breasts are a body part and it is culture that has sexualized them, not biological factors. When people start to come out ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. Julius Ceasar Shakespeare presents Cassiu s character as complex character, torn, on the one hand between his loyalty and love for a childhood friend and his true patriotism for his country, Rome, on the other, along with its future at hands of tyrannical, self seeking and despotic king, Julius Ceasar, who would sop at nothing to fulfill his ambitions and his megalomaniacal lust for power. Considering the depth, extent and magnitude of Cassius s manipulative competecies, what could have been his inner motive when Ceasar defeated Pompeii and annexed the Roman crown what that Casar, his long term friend and confidante, would provide Cassius with formidable powerful position under his command, but this was not to be. Ceasar s vaulting ambitions perhaps did not reserve place for Cassuis, and the core seeds of bitterness was sown due to this callousness on the part of Ceasar. The growing power, prestige and pomp of Ceasar was indeed an eyesore for Cassius since these were aspects which he himself wanted to have too he also hated how Caesar runs around like a god why, ... • 44. Jesus The Son Of God Research Paper Whether or not Jesus was truly the Son of God is a question that theologians and philosophers have been trying to answer for centuries. One might also ask the question, Was Jesus even a Divine Man? Interestingly enough, Jesus was not the only man though to be divine in nature. People living in the Greco Roman world reference ancient sources to highlight their belief that numerous individuals obtain divine qualities and characteristics. The person of Jesus is one of the most influential characters in human history and this is why it is so important to investigate whether or not he was who he said he was. In this paper, I will work to highlight some of these examples of other divine men and leave it up to you to decide whether or not Jesus was divine himself. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In both the stories of Jesus s birth and Alexander the Great s birth it is said that they had been conceived through the agency of a God. To begin, let s look at Luke 1: 34 35, How will this be, Mary asked the angel, since I am a virgin? The angel answered, The Holy Spirit will come on you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the holy one to be born will become the Son of God. This is a reference to the virgin birth. Jesus was thought to be born of a virgin and therefore was only conceived because the Holy Spirit gave her a child. Similarly, in the legend of Alexander the Great s birth, it is believed that a God had lain with the mother of Alexander in the form of a serpent; which then gave way to the birth of Alexander the Great. Does this not also make Alexander that Great a Son of God? These similar stories make it less unique of an idea that Jesus was born by the agency of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. Sexual Violence In College Essay Within the last few years conversations about a long surviving issue have resurfaced, managing to draw the attention of hibernating authorities of higher education institutions across the United States. A stream of alleged cases of Title IX violations leading to investigations at some of the most prestigious universities across the country have opened up a dialogue between students and the administration about sexual violence on college campuses. The recently conducted campus climate survey on sexual assault and sexual misconduct by the Association of American Universities (AAU) reflects this growing concern among students over the issue of sexual violence on campus and the administration s ability to handle these cases. The survey shows the tragic yet unsurprising reality of higher education institutions where roughly 1 in 5 undergraduate women experience sexual assault on college campuses within their first year. While these chilling statistics depend on gender, class year, and education level (graduate versus undergraduate students) and vary somewhat from one university to another, even a small number of sexual violence crimes should be deemed unacceptable. In the words of our ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The ubiquity of sexual violence in society, and indeed in these universities, is belied by these figures as they deny the intrinsic nature of sexual violence in our culture. Dr. Karns attempts to remedy underreporting of sexual assault by integrating the expected number of cases of sexual assault, generated by accounting for gender ratio of each institution and national statistics on frequency of sexual assault, in her data along with the actually reported incidents. Consequently, we expect a more realistic representation of the frequency of sexual assaults and the underreporting of this crime on college campuses through Dr. Karns s ... • 46. Southwest Airlines And The State Of Texas Back in March of 1967, Southwest Airlines was first founded under a different name, Air Southwest Company, by Rollin King and Herb Kelleher . With his own funds of $500 thousand, Kelleher filed an application with the Texas Aeronautics Commission for the right to fly commercial airplanes in the state of Texas. In February 20th of 1968, the Texas Aeronautics Commission voted unanimously, granting Air Southwest a certificate of public convenience and necessity. The following day, Braniff, Trans Texas (later known as Texas International), and Continental Airlines obtained a restraining order from Travis County District, prohibiting the certificate to be delivered to Air Southwest Company . Air Southwest Company tried to file appeal with the Austin State District Court and the Third Court of Civil Appeals. Both courts ruled against Air Southwest, forcing Herb Kelleher to appeal with the Texas Supreme Court. The Texas Supreme Court unanimously voted to overturn the lower court s decisions and ruled in favor of Air Southwest . In December of 1970, the United States Supreme Court denied the appeal by Braniff and Texas International to remove Air Southwest certification . In 1983, Winifred Barnum, a children s author and illustrator, wrote a children s book based on Southwest s legal fight called Gumwrappers and Goggle.
