Why The Internet Is The Fuel For The Global Economy
If the Internet is the fuel for the global economy, the midmarket is the engine that makes it work
from a growth, stability, and innovation perspective. Traditional enterprises have typically built and
deployed enterprise systems that are used exclusively by employees, with a focus on internal
processes, improving efficiencies, decreasing costs across all functional business areas. With
proliferation of the Cloud and The Internet of Things (IoT), businesses have been forced to deploy
solutions that focus on business models that revolve around interactions with a myriad of disparate
constituents from; customers, suppliers, partners, employees, and now remote assets/devices.
Enterprise softwarecompanies like:
Traditional Enterprise Applications Vendors: IFS, Infor, Microsoft Corporation, Oracle Corporation
,
PTC, QAD, Sage, SAP, Syspro, Totvs (Brazil), and Yonyou (China);
Born in the cloud Applications Vendors: Acumatica, Epicor, Kenandy, NetSuite, Ramco, Syspro,
and Workday;
Each of these companies have been developing midmarket solutions to help their customers take
advantage of these new market realities.
In today s hypercompetitive marketplace, the midmarket has many of the same complications and
challenges the Fortune 500 takes on every day. Each company has its own and unique supply
chain, their own business processes, scare resources, and the need to drive ROI and TCO from
their enterprise systems. Five years ago, ERP systems were, in many cases, a very expensive

The Economic Growth And Development Of A Country
Over the years, there has been much debate over whether the state plays a role in the economic
growth and development of a country. Some believe that the state is essential, arguing that its
intervention promotes investment, mobilizes industry and capital, and creates jobs. Some view it
as an obstacle, claiming that its role should be deregulated and reduced because its involvement can
lead to market distortions and corruption. Some do not like either argument, declaring that the state
is less important compared to other factors in determining the development trajectory of a country.
These factors include geography, ethnic diversity, conflict, and political institution. I believe that
the last position is the strongest; while the state does play an important role in growth, it is not the
most important. I believe that the political institution a country operates under is more significant
to dissecting this relationship than the intervention of the state. First off, what are the arguments in
favor of the correlation between the state and economic development? One argument is that the
state provides structure and order, which in turn reassures domestic and foreign investors, giving
them an incentive to invest. A state provides order by controlling violence, as told by Robert
Bates in The Formation of States. Bates describes how the rise in prosperity in 14th and 15th
century Europe led to an increase in violence and conflict. As the value of agricultural land and its

Mobilizing knowledge in Multinational Corporations
The Role of Regional offices in Mobilizing Local Knowledge Globally

Author Note
This paper was prepared for Global Innovation, section 7953, taught by Dr. Rao Bharat2
Abstract
In recent years, innovation has been coming from places we least expected of. MNCs headquarters
are no longer the primary source for creating innovation. Globalization has enabled firms to expand
their businesses overseas and strategize competitive advance through its global subsidiaries. In the
nexus of innovation, valuable knowledge can be generated at any level of the
MNCs, in particular at local levels. As firms became global, it has become challenging for
MNCs to mobilize knowledge generated at local units. This paper advocates for the role of regional
offices as knowledge mobilizers. Regional offices act as knowledge brokers for diffusing innovation
generated locally to other locations within the MNCs. It outlines a mechanism of local to global
innovation cycle, which includes: knowledge identification, knowledge extraction, and knowledge
diffusion.3 Mobilizing knowledge in Multinational Corporations

Heneman Trailer Truck Drivers
Literature Review The job of a tractor trailer truck driver can vary greatly from company to
company. Therefore, this analysis will focus on the core tasks and requirements. According to the
National Center for O*NET Development, heavy and tractor trailer truck drivers are required to
ensure equipment is working properly, follow safety procedures for transporting goods, make
certain that cargo is secure, drive and maneuver trucks, read and interpret directions, and maintain
logs according to relevant regulations. This requires knowledge of transportation, public safety and
security, and the English language. It also requires skills and abilities in operation and control,

Trucking jobs at one company may look very different from those at another, and their selection
systems should reflect that. It is also important to remember to follow any regulations in place
in the geographic location. With that said, recruitment strategies should be creative and try to
extend beyond the traditional methods. Referrals may be useful in the industry, if care is taken
to avoid adverse impact. It also makes sense to advertise in directed mediums, like in truck stops
across the country. If the organization has the money to invest, they could also build their talent
and provide training to the people they want to put into their talent pipeline by providing
courses leading to CDL licensure. This could create a sense of commitment to the organization
and reduce turnover. As far as selection, job history data may be more relevant to these jobs than
it is to others. It would also be wise to check into any criminal history the person has. Verification
of both of these sources is absolutely key to success. A physical would also be necessary to
determine if the person is physically able to safely drive a truck. A simulation or road course
would be ideal for this job, as it could determine if the driver would be able to handle the exact
requirements of the job and can be highly

Residential Schools In Monkey Beach By Eden Robinson
Residential schools are educational institutions established for Indigenous children. It was funded
by the Canadian government and administered by Christian churches with the sole purpose of
civilizing the native children and assimilate them into the modern western culture. In the novel
Monkey Beach, Eden Robinson describes the impact of residential schools on multiple characters in
the story. Uncle Mick, Aunt Trudy, and Josh are just a few who have experienced many types of
abuse physical, sexual, emotional and spiritual. Those horrid memories left permanent emotional
scars and still resides with them even until adulthood. Residential schools disrupted lives, isolated
families, eliminated cultural identity and caused long term problems among the Indigenous
community. With the passage of the British North American Act in the 1867 and the
implementation of the Indian Act in 1876, the government was required to provide Indigenous
youth with an education to integrate them into Canadian society (Brady 1995). The first residential
schools were set up in the 1880s and peaked around the 1920s. After the residential school system
was established, children were stripped away from their parents and had no freedom to choose
whether they wanted to attend. In these schools heavily controlled by catholic churches, children
were forced to pray to whom they had no connection with and forbidden to practice their own
culture. The goal was to convert the children to Christianity and

Anne Moody s Coming of Age in the Mississippi
At the start of the book a naГЇve, young and innocent African American girl lived life almost
oblivious to the socially constructed issue of race. She did not see the difference of skin color and
believed it was perfectly normal to socialize with whites. As far as she was concerned raced did not
exist. This view was quickly altered and changed as the little girl named Essie Mae Moody grew up
fast in a society dominated by racial boundaries involving whites, blacks and a hierarchy of people
who had parts of both. Essie s first encounter with racewhich initiated her first change, from being
oblivious to being confused, occurred early in life. When she was young, she was friends with and
often played with white children. This all changed... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This was the worst of my fears. 8 This fear was also given life because she was not aware of what
criteria or actions could cause an African American to be killed. She came to the conclusion that
being black was enough.9
I was fifteen years old when I began to hate people. I hated the white men who murdered Emmitt
Till and I hated all the other whites who were responsible for countless murders...and those I
vaguely remembered from childhood. 10 The section of the book that this quote comes from
shows an attitude toward race that Essie Mae retains for a significant amount of time. Her
feelings were characterized by anger. As the story progresses it comes to be known that Essie
does not solely blame the whites. She considered the black community just as guilty for allowing
the atrocities to occur. At this point in time Essie Mae showed that she did not blame just one
side of the racial spectrum; she blamed everyone for their part in contributing to the problem.11
Her anger eventually transformed into hatred as more atrocities occurred that involved the
killings of African Americans. The major event that caused Essie Mae Moody to hate was the
murder of Samuel O Quinn. This murder was the straw that broke the camel s back in relation to
Essie s shift to saying she hated whites. His death reminded her of all the other killings she had
buried away inside of her that were waiting to explode. She was even more angry that she wanted
to take direct action against what was

Osmosis in Potato Tissue
Biology
Aim:
My objective is to plan and conduct an experiment from which I should be able to draw a firm
conclusion that will either prove or disprove any predictions I make. This essay aims to assess and
investigate the effect of various solution concentrations on the activity of osmosis in plant tissue.
Background scientific theory:
Plants exchange gases (CO2 and O2) in maintaining vital respiratory processes and in carrying out
photosynthesis; they absorb certain minerals and sugars so to use as a source of energy and
eradicate wastes in order to maintain specific requirements for survival. Large amounts of water are
absorbed by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The maximum water potential is nil; an example of which is within pure water hence water
molecules will flow from it to any other aqueous solution regardless of how dilute it may be.
There are three possible concentrations of solution. The first, a hypertonic solution, has a higher
solute concentration than that of the cell and as a result the water will leave the cell resulting in
collapsed vacuoles in plant cells. A hypotonic solution, however, has a lower solute concentration
than the solute concentration inside the cell and hence the net movement of water inside the cell is
at its maximum. Whilst an isotonic solution is when the concentration of solutes is the same
inside the cell as it is outside of the cell; in such as case the cell would not lose nor gain any water.
This state is otherwise recognized as dynamic Equilibrium where the molecules are randomly
distributed despite there still being a rapid net movement of water across the cell membrane in both
directions; water movement in opposing directions occur at the same rate and thereby cancel each
other out.
Larger differences between the concentrations or water potential of the solutions results in a steeper
concentration gradient, meaning a faster rate of osmosis. In effect the concentration outside of any
cell is proportional to

Amelia Earhart Disappearance
The disappearance of the Babe of the sky
Amelia Earhart was, and still is, one of the most famous women in history for being the first woman
to cross the Atlantic Ocean. On July 2nd, 1937, the famous pilot and her navigator, Fred Noonan,
mysteriously vanished while attempting to circumnavigate the globe around the equator ( The Odd
Vanishing Of Amelia Earhart. ). There are many different theories on what could have happened
that day that range in believability and it is important to add that there is little to no evidence for
any of them. The circumstances to where and when they died also had a large factor in the
conspiracies.
Earhart and Noonan s plan was to circle around the globe starting and ending in California, USA.
The flight would start on May 21st, 1937, was to last approximately forty days, and they were
going to make many stops, zigzagging along the equator to refuel ( The Odd Vanishing Of Amelia
Earhart. ). They flew in a twin engine ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Both Earhart and Noonan are believed to have died in the crash, northwest of their destination of
Howland Island. Many skeptics have said that an electra of that model should have lasted twenty
four hours in the air rather than the twenty that it did (Long). However, according to the Jet
Propulsion Center (JPC) at Caltech, that with the headwind and the 10,000 ft climb she had to
take at the beginning of the trip, Earhart s plane would ve been out of fuel at the time of the
disappearance. Many groups had taken years to search the area all around the island to try to
find any evidence of the crash. They used divers and sonar mapping in and around the area but
there has been nothing of significant evidence found yet ( The Odd Vanishing Of Amelia Earhart.

what most people believed

The Ethical Marketing Strategy Of Pharmaceutical Advertising
What are some of the ethical issues associated with this marketing strategy? Pharmaceutical
advertisements has been the subject of deliberation for more than a century. Pharmaceutical
advertising and marketing make up a large fragment of the activities of pharmaceutical
corporations. These publications can be extremely informative as long as they are analytically
evaluated. However, the data enclosed in promotional material may be scant or erroneous.
Assuredly, the pharmaceutical marketingactivities has a great effect on the behavior of the
physicians however hidden rather than suggested in its script noticeable (Makowska, 2014;
UKessays, 2015). The ethical marketing strategies in the pharmaceutical industryare procedures
used to sell medicines morally. The strategy must be as such that it does not influence the decision
making criteria of physicians. Ethical marketing is usually referred to as the use of marketing ethics
into the marketing process. The establishment of marketing ethics has the potential to benefit
society as a whole and should be considered a part of business ethics in the sense that marketing
forms a substantial part of any business model. Marketing strategies are organized into five
classifications: physicians targeted promotions; direct to consumer advertising; unethical
recruitment of physicians; researchers conflicts of interest; and data manipulation in clinical trials.

Sargent Andrew Ford
Sargent Andrew Ford was relieved. He was finally ending seven months of deployment in
Afghanistan and was getting ready to see his wife. Mentally tired and physically exhausted, his
entire goal was to reconnect with his life and enjoy being with his family after months apart. Unlike
most soldiers returning from tour, he had a surprise that went beyond his homecoming. When he
saw his wife for the first time after seven months, he was going to tell her about his jackpot win.
Ford s story is an unlikely one. He started playing an online casino game that gave him 80 free

Essay Comparing the Culture of Cambodia and American Culture
Comparing the Culture of Cambodia and American Culture
After reading the novel Children of the River, I have learned some customs that people in
Cambodia practice in their country. In this essay, I shall describe some examples of their traditions
and contrast them with the American culture as shown in the novel and Honduran culture of which
I am most familiar.
One good example of this contrast is when Sundara, the main character of the novel, explains to
Jonathan (Pg 23) that in Cambodia, students at school show respect to their teachers. Students don t
ask questions to their teachers if they don t understand a lesson. In their culture, asking such
questions is a sign of disrespect. Sundara explains in the novel that people ... Show more content on

Not using the husband s last name in this manner would be offensive to the husband and his family.
Still another example of Cambodian customs is when Soka tells Sundara (Pg. 80) about Naro s
mother feeling disappointed of lack of respect for the elderly in America. In Cambodia it is
impolite and rude not to show respect to adults. They bow and show consideration to them. In my
opinion, this practice is used in many countries too. In Honduras, if a person doesn t show respect
for the elderly, he or she would be considered rude to others.
In addition, in page 84, Sundara tells Jonathan that in Cambodia a girl doesn t go out with a boy
alone. Cambodian girls are not allowed to go out without company. It is not part of their customs; it
is not acceptable in her country. For Sundara it is difficult to explain to Jonathan that she must not
be disobedient even though they are not doing anything wrong. She needs to follow her traditions.
Another interesting Cambodian custom (Pg. 109) is when Sundara tells Jonathan that in Cambodia
people believe that is bad to touch a little kid s head. They believe that it might make them lose
their intelligence or their soul.
In my opinion, it is fascinating to learn different customs from diverse countries because that way
we can avoid make other people feel uncomfortable. It is important to know how a simple touch can
disturb an entire culture.

Strategic Leadership And Decision Making
Introduction McCain Foods is a potato manufacturing company founded in Canada in 1957 by
Harrison and Wallace McCain. Currently, there are 41 sites on six continents employing 3,600
farmers and 17,000 other workers across the world (McCain, 2015). McCain has had several
external environmental factors affecting their businessincluding social, legal, economic, political,
and technological forces that they have had to overcome and adapt to. Due to these factors, McCain
has had numerous opportunities and threats that affect business strategy, philosophy, and initiatives.
The volatility, uncertainty, complexity, and ambiguity of strategic planning and decision making
and how it affects McCain s strategy will be discussed below to show how McCain is handling
changes in the environmentand their business outcomes. McCain s response to the external
environment is important for their success in business and competition within the foodindustry.
External Environment Strategic leadership and decision making occurs first with an assessment of
the external environment. Strategy can be compared to a plan, except it is broader in scale, long
term in nature, and surrounded by more uncertainties (Fernandes, 2009). Successful decision
making and assessments can shape an organizations strategy to better accommodate for threats,
opportunities, strengths and weaknesses. Strategic leadership and decision making are important
qualities to have in a leader. Therefore, following the SLEPT

After presenting the evidence from both perspectives, I will then evaluate whether the legalisation

acquired research, it can be seen that Marriage Equality is an inevitable social change to come in
the following years in Australian society.

Gay Marriage in the past few years has been a topic that has been highly debated and discussed. As
with any controversial issue, there are two sides to this argument. One side, the opposition, cites
religious view points and concerns about fornication and further raisse concerns that the rights of
marriage should be restricted to heterosexual couples (Debate.org). An increasing number on this
side of the argument have recently changed their opinions over the last few years as a result of
mounting pressure from LGBTI groups. People supporting marriage equality assert that marriage is
a civil right and therefore should not have restrictions based on sexual orientation. This side firmly
believes that love, not sexual orientation, is grounds enough for marriage (Debate.org). The
supporting side seems to be the populist view point, as evidenced from the recent changes of law in
some of the most prominent countries in the world, such as America.

Should 16 Year Olds Be Able To Vote
Due to the society we live in today I personally believe that 16 year olds should be able to vote.
For one, they are given the responsibility to drive, pay taxes, and can be charged with a criminal
defense as an adult. With that being said they are being treated like an adult. Also, at that age
you as an individual know what is best for yourself and others of your age group. This can go as
far as gun ownership which is a problem in some countries, minimum wage as they are the prime
age group that is being affected, as well as education as it affects them in the future and other
generations behind them. Lastly, it would give a greater say in what other generations have to
think about who is leading and area or country. Do you still believe 16 year olds shouldn t vote?
The legal working age in Canada is 14, however the age where most teens are hired is 16.
Working teens at 16 are asked to contribute to their countries wealth by paying taxes. Paying taxes
shows that they are responsible enough to manage their own income and still 16 year olds are seen

Roman Republic
Rome: Transition from Republic to Empire
Paul A. Bishop
Introduction________________________________________________
Since its collapse, historians have attempted to explain the struggle for power and control over
both the Roman Republic and the Roman Empire that followed. To explain the complexities of the
Roman Republic, the Empire, and their political complexities can be a daunting task. For nearly ten
centuries Rome would rule most of the known world before the fall of the Western Empire
(Byzantine) in 476 C.E. Before that fall occurred, a fundamental change would take place that
would transform the original Republic into the Roman Empire. Many factors would be directly and
indirectly responsible for this transition. These would ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By that time, the Republic had extended its control throughout the Mediterranean Sea and as far as
Britain. That control would operate under an informal unwritten constitution, and establish the use
of Latin as its official language, while codifying rights, responsibilities, and status under a written
law. Beginning with the Law of the Twelve Tables, Roman jurisprudence would develop over the
next one thousand years into a legal system that would eventually become the early basis for law
in continental Europe. Even English and North American common law owes more than a passing
debt to the Romans. Case law and precedents find their roots in a Latin legal term, stare decisis,
meaning to stand by things decided . The development of a written law was seen as a method of
eliminating indiscriminant application of the law by magistrates and officials upon the lower
plebeian class.
The Assemblies
The establishment of a written law set the foundation for a republican government whereby
responsibilities and duties would be divided among various representative assemblies. Their
members would in turn cast votes concerning the action to be taken in
regard to the issues placed before them. Membership in these early assemblies would be limited by
such things as class, income, family ties, and affiliations. The assemblies had various and specific
functions within the Roman republican

The Pros And Cons Of Human Experimentation
When World War 2 is mentioned, most people think of the Auschwitz and what the Germans did to
the Jews to create the perfect race . Those Jews were sent to the concentration camps where they
were tortured and a team of twenty so called medical professionals got to experiment on the lesser
species . These experiments included victims being stripped of bones, muscles and nerves;

Ownership Can Build One s Sense Of Self Identity
Ownership is the act and state of having something under your control or possession. What we
own, can in fact alter the development of self identity. Aristotle claims that owning tangible
objects help to build moral character, while Jean Paul Sartre proposes that ownership extends
beyond to intangible things as well. One s sense of self can be a reflection to what one owns,
whether it is a tangible or not.
The ownership can lead to gaining of maturity and responsibility. Responsibility is not a skill one
can learn without experiences. For example, owning a pet can develop your sense of character.
Owning my dog helped me develop life lessons such as responsibility, compassion, and even
bereavement. Being an owner, I had to ensure my dog would I eventually developed intangible
skills that come with the ownership of what I possess that is tangible. As a pet owner, it provided
me with a sense of responsibility. A pet is in the hands of its owner and relies on the owner for
protection and care. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Individuals may compare the concept of memories to the acquisition of clothes. Due to aging,
one must keep buying clothes. Some clothes still fit after years, while some are kept for the
personal value, while most are thrown or given away over time. Memories are identical to the
constant cycle of the accession of different articles of clothing within a wardrobe. The
sentimental values of the clothes we never wear, is something we can never disregard. For
example, I own attire because they have a true personal connection to me. It is proven that having
wardrobes under your possession, can create a variety of self identity. These garments preserved a
piece of my youth and reflected my personality. Throwing away these clothes, is like abandoning
my past or memories. The underestimated possession of memories dictates every aspect of our
lives, whether one knows it or

Using A Stock Trading System Based On Prediction Models...
The dissertation project addresses the problem of trying to build a stock trading system based
on prediction models obtained with daily stock quotes data. We will apply different models to
predict the returns of IBM stocks at the New York Stock Exchange. These predictions will be
used together with a trading rule that will generate buy and sell signals. This chapter addresses
several new data mining issues: (1) how to use R to analyze data stored in a database; (2) how to
handle predictionproblems where there is a time ordering among training cases (usually known as a
time series); (3) and the consequences of wanting to translate model predictions into actions.
3.1 Problem description and objectives
Stock market trading is an application domain with a big potential for data mining. In effect, the
existence of an enormous amount of historical data suggests that data mining can provide a
competitive advantage over human inspection of this data. On the other hand there are authors
claiming that the markets adapt so rapidly in terms of price adjustments that there is no space to
obtain profits in a consistent way. This is usually known as the efficient markets hypothesis. This
theory has been successively replaced by more relaxed versions that leave some space for trading
opportunities.
The general goal of stock trading is to maintain a portfolio of stocks based on buy and sell orders.
The long term objective is to achieve as much profit as possible from these trading

Democratic And Republican Analysis
The election and how government officials are elected is vital to the United States identity as a
Democratic Republic. To fully understand whether the election is fair to the average American
citizen, these four things need to be looked at and understood; the Democratic and Republican
platforms and who the reader agrees with, the procedure and requirements for getting on the ballot
to be elected into the House of Representatives, the many different parties of the United States, and
the requirements and procedures for running for president. After each of these questions are
acknowledged, it can be easily inferred that the current electionsystem that is in place, is fair to
American citizens.
When analyzing the differences between the platforms of the Democrats and Republicans, there
are six key issues that differ: wages, education, foreign policy, gun laws, health care, and the size
of government. The issue of wages is most clearly seen in the issue of minimum wage in that
Democrats believe that the current minimum wage is a starvation wage and must be increased to
a living wage. No one who works full time should have to raise a family in ... Show more content on

Chapter 7 Of Outliers By Gwen Gladwell
Gladwell begins the chapter by narrating the crash of Korean Air flight 80. The plane was in
good condition and so was the weather; but tragedy ends up slamming into the side of a
mountain. Gladwell explains that plane crashes are rare, and in Chapter 7 of Outliers, he wants
the reader to know how and why these pilots have been failing to land planes. Consequently,
Gladwell begins to explain how Korean Air turned itself around, and he discusses how important it
is to address cultural differences and legacies. Crashes are rare, and most of the time are
consequences of many unrelated factors. Many believe that airplane crashes are the cause of bad

The History of the Amish Essay
The History of the Amish
The Amish, who are also called The Plain People or Old Order Amish, originated in Switzerland in
approximately 1525. They originated from a movement called the Anabaptist movement. Jacom
Amman was the leader. This happened during the reformation in the16th Century Europe. They
believed in holding on to traditions and keeping themselves separated from the world. He was
stricter about this than other Anabaptists of that time. The Anabaptists were against the union of
church and state and also against infant baptism. They felt that each individual should make this
choice for himself when he or she is old enough. They felt the age for baptism was about 18 years.

However, on occasion they will use tractors with steel wheels to pull large equipment on the
highway. And, it is rare to see tractors being used in the fields, except in climates that are too hot
for horses. Very few of the Old Order use indoor plumbing and running water.
The New Order maintains many of the Old Order practices. However, they are considered the most
progressive of the Amish groups. Some of these New Order Groups use telephones, regular air
filled tires for their tractors, and even electricity in their homes.
Some extreme cases are the conservative Swartzentrubers, and the Nebraska Amish of Central
Pennsylvania who do not use indoor plumbing, or motorized machinery of any kind. They also
wear even more conservative clothing. The Nebraska Amish, for example, do not wear suspenders
or bonnets, and will not even allow screens on their doors and windows. Over 90% of the current
Amish population, are from the original emigrant ancestors. There are less than 10% converts
included in the total membership.
Today there are between 100,000 and 150,000 Amish in North America. The largest group resides in
Holmes County, Ohio. Other areas of concentration for the Amish are in Pennsylvania, northern
Indiana and Iowa. Fewer still are to be found in the eastern and mid western states and Ontario,
Canada. All together, the Amish are said to have communities in 24 states. When most people think

The Effect of Human Activity on the Abundance of Freshwater Microorganisms
Fatima Cubillas Flores
Biology Honors Period 5
Dr. Frank
21 November 2016
It is an undoubted fact that humans can impact the quality of water, and there has also been an
immense increase in the need for water for survival in today s society. Water is used for many
purposes such as in manufactured goods, for the growth of food, for mere drinking, and for the
production and use of energy (Gleick). The National Research Council of the National Academy
of Sciences in the U.S.A. suggests that humans get an average of one and a half milliliters of
water per calorie of food.. Bathing is suggested to need an average of 70 litres of water for every
human being a day. 11.5 liters of water is on average used for food preparation a day; from this it
becomes clear that freshwater sources are very important to the survival of the human race (Gleick).
Water is so important to the survival of all organisms that as human activity increases in sources of
freshwater, it calls to attention: How does human activity affect the abundance of microorganisms
and water quality of the water?
The presence and variety of microorganisms in water accounts for most of the indicators of water
quality. The presence of Coliform is a big indicator of fecal contamination in freshwater sources.
Coliform bacteria is an organism that is naturally present in the human digestive tract; these tend to
be rare and

How Did Antoine Lavoisier Contribute To Chemistry
Antoine Laurent de Lavoisier was a French chemist in the chemistry field of science. He was
also known as the leader of the eighteenth century chemical revolution. He was born in Paris on
August 26, 1743. His mother died at the age of five, although he had a close relationship with his
father. Antoine had one sibling, a sister. At the age of eleven, he entered the college known as
Mazarin College. Initially Antoine wanted to be an author. He submitted several essays in
provincial competitions. Soon though, he gave way towards in interest in science. After leaving
Mazarin College, Antoine began law school. He earned his bachelor degree, but later that

He first weighed all the carbon dioxide and water that was produced by burning. Between these
experiments, he was able to determine that a substance in air combines with burnable materials, to

conclusion of it all was that Antoine Lavoisier was able to demonstrate that water is able to be
composed of a combination of oxygen and hydrogen. He demonstrated the role of oxygen in
animal and plant respiration. He showed that although matter changes its state in chemical reaction,
the quantity of matter is the same at the end as at the beginning of every chemical reaction, giving
evidence of the law of the conservation of matter. Antoine was making history by now because of
how successful he was. In 1755 Lavoisier was appointed to the Gunpowder Administration. As a
result of his improvements in the manufacture and delivery of gunpowder, France was able to send
large quantities to The American Colonies during the Revolutionary War. Lavoisier was then made

complication of limited funding is that people are not dealing with ASD (autism spectrum disorder)

A study done on the reliance of proprioception and atypical visuo tactile temporal binding describes
an experiment testing a child s ability to recognize the difference between a faux hand and their
own. Proprioception is how one recognizes their bodily functions and personal control, while visuo
tactile temporal binding is the recognition of the body itself. The psychology students that
administered the study concluded afterwards that there is a lack of visuo tactile temporal binding in
people with autism. With this information, psychologists could work towards the development of
new types of therapy focused on expanding the visuo tactile temporal binding of individuals with
this disorder (Greenfield).
The strengthening of social aptitude in people with autism was explored through an acting seminar
in Ohio, hosted by a highly regarded psychologist, Kelly Hunter. People from the area were invited
to attend the seminar to become further aware of the social dysfunction in people with autism. By
working on facial expressions, Hunter was helping the autism community learn how to recognize
and use social cues in a standard environment. If more people become willing to take time such as
this to enhance their knowledge on autism, our society could possibly fund new research projects to
better understand individuals with autism (Makin).

The Effects Of Dementia On The Brain Essay
Usually in chronic or progressive nature, Dementia is a syndrome where there is a deterioration
in one s cognitive function. Which is dramatically greater than normal cognitive deterioration
expected from normal aging. It is caused by a variety of diseases and injuries that affect the
brain, such as a stroke or Alzheimer s disease, 60 70% of cases are contributed to Alzheimer s.
Dementia affects memory, comprehension, calculation, language, judgment, thinking, and
learning capacity. This is devastating on the person affected and also the family of the person
affected and can commonly lead to deterioration in emotional control, motivation, and social
behavior. Worldwide, it is estimated that 47.5 million people are living with dementia, 7.7
million new cases every year, and it is estimated that 75.6 million will be affected in 2030.
Dementia is damage of nerve cells in several areas of the brain and affects people differently
based on the location of the damaged nerve cells. The type of dementia is usually grouped by
what they have in common, as in the area of the brain affected or whether they are progressive
(worsen over time). There also some dementias that are caused by a reaction to medications or
vitamin deficiencies and can possibly improve with treatment. Progressive dementias that progress
over time and are not reversible and have causes that are currently unknown but, over time, science
might be able to pinpoint a direct cause. Alzheimer s disease is the most

Summary Of The Wayzata High School Auditorium
The Wayzata High School auditorium had been transformed into an art museum full of Caleb s
paintings. There was a long table covered with hundreds of candles and matchbooks. An adjacent
table displayed a guest book where friends and family wrote down messages and prayers. The
pastor from the Miller s church distributed flyers about Caleb and suggested prayers to help him
and his family through this difficult time. Dr. Reynolds opened the pamphlet and scanned down
the back of the front page. As his eyes glanced over, he was surprised to see the last section
dedicated entirely to Becca and her struggle. He read every word. The Coopers and the Millers
were quietly conversing with the Davenports in a small circle far across the auditorium. Cathy
was gushing to Mrs. Miller about what a wonderful and brave son she had and how much their
family owed him and Matt for saving Ashley. Matt, Miranda, Ashley and George congregated
with twenty other friends discussing the added weight they all felt when hearing about Becca s
condition. Paige stood fifteen feet away with a group of friends, sobbing uncontrollably in Marcy
s arms. The auditorium was already packed, and people were still pouring in. Dr. Reynolds main
objective for the evening was to appear concerned. There were plenty of other doctors and nurses

This paper shows empirical evidence of how a men s college basketball program s revenue is
affected by several determinants. Results are being taken out of sample data from the past eight
basketball seasons. The most important determinants considering a college basketball team s
revenue include advertising, ticket pricing, performance during the previous season as well as the
past three games, performance of a local rival s program in the previous season, quality of

College basketball is one of the most popular college sports to attend and to watch. The evaluated
college is compared to other Division 1 programs a smaller college. However, their basketball
team is still very competitive and has appeared in eleven national tournaments, six of which have
been at the NCAA tournament. Over the past decade the program has seen a lot of success but they
have also battled many hardships.
Even though the success of the team has changed throughout the years the one thing that has never
changed is the support from the students, alumni, faculty, and the community. At every home game
the arena is filled with students, alumni, faculty, as well as the local community that attend to
watch great basketball and support their favorite team. In this research article we are going to
analyze how the program s revenue is affected by different determinants. Collecting data of past
ticket sales, pricing of the tickets, as well as the attendance for each game will enable us to
determine the amount of revenue generated from this program. Some determinants that we are
going to consider are the advertisement expenses for each game, the opponent s team quality, the
performance of the crosstown rival s basketball program, whether the games are being held during
the week or on weekends as well as the time of the game, and finally a demographic factor, the

they heard there is better jobs and a more luxurious lifestyle. Most of the immigrants came with

Comparing The Three Worlds In A Midsummer Night s Dream
Shakespeare s A Midsummer Night s Dream seems, to me, to combine three worlds. A romantic
world of lovers, the workday world, and the fairy world. And while all three worlds tangle and
intertwine together during the play, it is the fairy world that has the most impact. The lovers are
changed by their meeting with the children of Pan. For the people who constructed this play and
brought these worlds to life in the plays in theatres, the first questions that I would ask are: what
do the fairies look like, and how is their world different from ours? Our world has grown very
technological, and separated itself from nature. I am sure artists answers to those two questions

Internetwork Essay
Internetwork
An internetwork is a collection of individual internet networks that are connected by mediating
internet devices and the whole together functions a large network whilst each still maintains their
own individual internet component.
Internetworking generally works via high speed LANS (local area networks) that enable users
within one small confined area to exchange files and messages as well as shared resources such as
printers. Switched internetworkings are also popularly used today. Both LANs and switched
internetworking allow high bandwidth applications and high speeds for the various programs such
as video and so forth.
Internetworking s face a great deal of challenges for instance with reliability, connectivity, network

according to different programs, the challenge is in supporting all so that they work together whilst
allowing a high degree of security that would provide data protection and provide rapid and smooth

Lopez de Santa Anna, and his Mexican Army, attacked Jim Bowie, William Travis, and Davy
Crockett at the Spanish mission in San Antonio. In the movie, the Alamo had fallen to the Mexican
Army. In this prompt I will inform you about who, what, and why the Alamo fell to Santa Anna.
In the film The Alamo , Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna, is the commander of the Mexican forces.
On the Texans side however, it is a little disputed. Sam Houston later becomes commander of the
entire army, but at the Alamo it is Jim Bowie. But many others trust William Travis as their
leader, once Jim Bowie gets terribly ill. A few names of people on both sides are Santa Anna, leader
of the Mexican forces. And for the Texasrebellion, are sharpshooter David Crockett, William

The Porcupine Mountain State Park
The Porkies The United States is home to many beautiful, amazing, and pristine resources. Most
people in the United States have limited opportunities to visit or see some of the amazing
locations scattered across the country. One amazing location, that I have personally been able to
visit, is the Porcupine Mountains. This park in particular is home to many interesting geological
formations and sites that were formed long ago. In 2015, a USA Today reader poll ranked the
Porcupine Mountains second on a list of Top 10 U.S. state parks (USA Today, 2015). So what is
the big deal? Why are people so fond of this state park? Figure 1. Boundary Map of the Porcupine

The Porcupine Mountains are known for having vast distributions of outcrops of various rock
types. The bedrock is exposed mostly because of thin or absent glacial drift as well as extensive
mining operations that are scattered along the Lake Superior shore. Much of the bedrock in the
park is older than 2.5 billion years and consists of Precambrian to Upper Silurian age rocks. The
bedrock is of the Keweenaw Supergroup and is about 25 kilometers deep; much of which spans
the along the mid continental rift. Figure 3. Keweenawan Supergroup strata by age and deposit.
The large rift is a result of an immense geological event that produced large earthquakes and
volcanic activity nearly 1 billion years ago. The event is a prime example of plate tectonic
theory. Large plates along the mountains continually would shift allowing stratovolcano activity
to persist. The volcanic activity left the Porcupine Volcanics, the oldest rocks of the area, which
consists of andesite and rhyolite flows. Figure 4 is intended to explain the formation of some of
the volcanic rock in the area. The area has remains of vast igneous rocks called basalt. The flood
basalts make up much of the Lake Shore Traps, which are small outcroppings until they from a
large stair step pattern (St. John). The traps are easily visible at the overlooking near the Lake of
the Clouds and along the 12 mile Escarpment of the Porcupine Mountains. These rock outcrops

Susan Cain Ted Talk Analysis
The Power of This Introvert Susan Cain s Ted Talk The Power Of Introverts brought a new
conversation to society in how introverts are treated. Five years ago (when this took place) this
topic was not very well discussed, which made this piece very eye opening for some. Using
Aristotle s appeals: logos and pathos, as well as a comparative argument in her ted talk, Cain
persuades viewers that we as a society oppress/shame introverts, not allowing them to strive or
be themselves in our now extroverted society. She advocates for a more balanced society that
serves both introverts and extroverts instead of just extroverts. Cain s speech uses pathos to
allow the audience to understand how introverts are oppressed in society, and why this is a
problem. Cain starts the speech off with an emotionally driven story that demonstrates how she
was shamed for her introverted tendencies as a young girl in camp. I got the message that
somehow my quiet and introverted style of being was not necessarily the right way to go, that I
should be trying to pass as more of an extrovert. This idea that introverts are encouraged and
almost forced to be someone they are not is pathos because it persuades the audience through a
feeling of injustice and compassion, as well as relatability from fellow introverts. Cain extends
this idea as a loss to society as well, stating it is our collegues loss, our... Show more content on

She calls for a change in society to allow introverts to be more free to be themselves so they can
strive and accomplish in the way extroverts do. She uses rhetorical devices such pathos, logos, and

piece was inspiring, factual, and brought awareness to an issue that was not discussed much before

How did the Client Become in the Current Situation
The client came into the current situation, mandated therapy, because of a fight
with a fellow sailor. He was demoted and mandated to seek treatment. His past is the
cause of his aggressive behavior which is what caused him to get into the altercation in
the first place.
How does the Client Describe the Problems
At first, Antwone is resistant to opening up about his past. As Dr. Davenport
channels Antwone s feelings into positive ones by exploring his feelings for Cheryl,
he begins to open up. He is still getting into altercations with the most recent one being
with a man who was questioning Antwone s sexuality while he was on leave in Mexico.
He is thrown in jail and Dr. Davenport meets him. Here Antwone finally opens up and
reveals that he was sexually abuse by Nadine Tate.
Dr. Davenport suggests Antwone to find his real family, but he refuses. Later, Dr.
Davenport reveals that he will be ending sessions and that he needs to continue to
progress on his own. Antwone breaks down and believes that everyone abandons
him. He then opens up

Enlightenment Influence On American Independence
The intelligent thinkers of the Enlightenment period of the time influenced the ideas of American
Independence, Declaration of Independence and the form of government that the Americans
developed after the revolution very significantly. Some of these clever thinkers were John Locke,
Voltaire and Baron de Montesquieu. Without their philosophies and thoughts we might not even
have some of the rights that we have today. John Locke, an Enlightenment thinker, highly
influenced American Independence and Government. Locke stated that he believed there were
natural rights that all people had including, life, liberty and property. Locke also argued that
individuals should be free to make choices about how to conduct their own lives as long as they do
not interfere with the liberty of others. He therefore believed liberty should be far reaching. All in
all, these beliefs by John Locke gave us people the right of freedom which is stated in the
Declaration of Independence. Another Enlightenment thinker that had an amazing impact on

Montesquieu was a nobleman, a judge in a French court and one of the most influential political
thinkers in all time. He mostly had the greatest contribution to the idea of the American
government. This amazing philosopher came up with the idea that in every government there are
three sorts of power which are the legislative, executive and the judicial. This idea is what we are
currently using here in the United States of America. The legislative branch makes laws and
approves presidential appointments. The executive branch signs the laws and the judicial branch
decides whether these laws are constitutional. As you can see, the idea of power being spilt into
three branches makes the government very organized and easier to

Essay on Atlantis Intrigues a Teen
Plato much believed that the civilization of Atlantis existed (Writer873). The origins of Atlantis
are written in Plato s Critias and Timaeus (Plato). Written around 350s B.C., the main character
Solon, travels to Egypt and learns of Atlantis by priests (Writer873). He claimed his dialogues to
be true records (Atlantis Subplots). Timaeus explains Atlantis was the island situated in front of the
straits, which are by you called Pillars of Herakles; the island was larger than Libya and Asia put

The secrets, including the culture, of Atlantis are fascinating in the way Plato illustrates the city.
Atlanteans were far more advanced than any civilization during their time, not to be mistaken
with Atlanteans being more advanced than any civilization during our time. Atlantis culture is
explained in Critias by a great amount within it s pages and it is extraordinary how the people
behaved so civil and orderly back then. The first thing the reader will learn in reading Critias is
Atlantis is ancient, ancient as in 9000 years (Plato). It s no wonder Atlanteans became far more
advanced than Athenians and other neighboring ancient cities. The empire had time to form a
stable society and conduct new ways to make life easier. The other detail in Critias is Athens
was in command one side and fought through the whole war, and in command of the other side
were the kings of the island of Atlantis (Plato). Showing the two cities weren t on the good terms
before the fall of Atlantis. The article Atlantean Culture writes about the belief the people of
Atlantis were dominantly a race of reddish in color, average height, and slightly egg shape heads
and sloped forehead. Egerton Sykes (1894 1983), was not only the creator of the largest private

Schleroderma Research Paper
Although the specific cause of Scleroderma is unknown, there are a few main factors known to
identify with Scleroderma. Scleroderma affects not only the surface of the skin but the joints,
bones and in severe cases other internal organs such as heart, liver, kidneys, and gastrointestinal
system. The main causes are over production of collagen and damage to bloodpathways which lead
to a change in connective tissue. The overproduction of collagen is due to the hyperactivity of the
autoimmune system which signals the body to produce more collagen than needed which leads to
thickening of the skin, therefore restricting normal function.
More specifically, the body recognizes the antigen proteins on the connective tissues as damaged
tissue or foreign bodies. As a result, the autoimmune system goes into its defense mode which is a
hyperactive state. In this state, it produces an excess of antibodies and growth factors. Growth
factors are a hormone or substance that is required to stimulate growth or synthesis in cells. The
specific chemicals that are produced are cytokines and chemokines. Furthermore, cytokines and
chemokines which are produced in the blood are the chemical growth factors that assist with scar
tissue repair by defending the body. It does this by stimulating the ... Show more content on

Reforms For Stricter Campaign Financing Rules
Individuals and PACs in finance, insurance, and real estate have contributed over $2 billion to
federal campaigns since 1990. Wall Street contributions increased from $60 million in 1990 to $311
million in 2005 (Wall online). Electoral competition is achieved when qualified candidates have
access to sufficient spending to become known to the voters (Does online). Therefore the candidate
must resort to any means necessary to have sufficient funds to run a successful campaign. Stricter
campaign financing guidelines are needed to limit the amount of donations to candidates because
interest money is a dominant factor in campaigns. It steers the ideological views of the candidate
toward the Political Action Committeethat donates the most... Show more content on

SSFs are political committees established and administered by corporations, labor unions,
membership organizations or trade associations. These committees can only solicit contributions
from individuals associated with connected or sponsoring an organization (Quick online). One of
the loopholes that the political action committees found to limitlessly fund campaigns was soft
money. Soft money is a loophole that allows individuals, unions, and corporations to give unlimited
sums to parties and national party committees for party building purposes, at grass root level
(Edwards 284). These groups were able to bypass the regulations instituted by the Federal Election
Campaign Act. Regardless of how Congress enacted on stricter campaign financing guidelines,
unions, individuals, and corporations were still able to find loopholes to contribute money to
campaigns. Due to the absurd amounts of money that is required for the candidates to be able to
creditably and adequately compete; candidates have been forced to turn to PACs to fund their
campaigns. The current system of campaign financing argues that the high cost of office seeking
and current ways of meeting those costs not only distract elected officials from their primary task
of lawmaking, but leave the door open to the influence of special interests (Power online). This
method of campaigning is criticized to be undemocratic, because candidates do not attentively listen

The Importance Of Free Speech And The First Amendment
All the time, people are heard protesting about Free Speech , and The First Amendment . What
rights are really protected under the First Amendment according to our Constitution? The
answer may be shocking. In the United States of America, the concept of free speech is widely
called upon to reinforce the legality of offensive spoken words or actions. In reality, not all
speech is protected under the First Amendment. Sure, everyone is entitled to their own opinions,
but where is the line between what opinions are acceptable to be spoken of in public, and what is
inappropriate or too offensive. The true answer lies in the definition of the word public. While
government run agencies such as public universities have little they can do about what students
say, private colleges have virtually no requirements by law. Public universities have very little
say in what students are allowed to say or do so long as their speech and actions are reasonable.
Reasonable is defined as, for the duration of this essay, that they are not directly threatening to any
person or group, they refrain from using fighting words , and they do not take part in slander or
libel. Any restriction of reasonable free speech by a public universityis unconstitutional. While
public universities have requirements put upon them to allow most free speech, private colleges
have no such rules. The only requirements for any private collegeto allow free speech are those put
upon themselves by contract, or in few cases, put upon them by their state. Private colleges are
private so that they may choose which morals and ideals they put forward and deem important.
Although most private universities are not required to allow complete freedom of speech on their
campuses, many add an assurance of free speech or some variant of free speech in their handbook.
Free Speech Zones have become a popular solution to the ever growing problem of the
combination of protesters and easily offended people across the United States. These zones exist in
many places and are especially prevalent on college campuses. The intent of such zones is arguably
good, to ensure that the purpose of universities remains centered on learning. The constitutionality

  • 2. Why The Internet Is The Fuel For The Global Economy If the Internet is the fuel for the global economy, the midmarket is the engine that makes it work from a growth, stability, and innovation perspective. Traditional enterprises have typically built and deployed enterprise systems that are used exclusively by employees, with a focus on internal processes, improving efficiencies, decreasing costs across all functional business areas. With proliferation of the Cloud and The Internet of Things (IoT), businesses have been forced to deploy solutions that focus on business models that revolve around interactions with a myriad of disparate constituents from; customers, suppliers, partners, employees, and now remote assets/devices. Enterprise softwarecompanies like: Traditional Enterprise Applications Vendors: IFS, Infor, Microsoft Corporation, Oracle Corporation , PTC, QAD, Sage, SAP, Syspro, Totvs (Brazil), and Yonyou (China); Born in the cloud Applications Vendors: Acumatica, Epicor, Kenandy, NetSuite, Ramco, Syspro, and Workday; Each of these companies have been developing midmarket solutions to help their customers take advantage of these new market realities. In today s hypercompetitive marketplace, the midmarket has many of the same complications and challenges the Fortune 500 takes on every day. Each company has its own and unique supply chain, their own business processes, scare resources, and the need to drive ROI and TCO from their enterprise systems. Five years ago, ERP systems were, in many cases, a very expensive ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Economic Growth And Development Of A Country Over the years, there has been much debate over whether the state plays a role in the economic growth and development of a country. Some believe that the state is essential, arguing that its intervention promotes investment, mobilizes industry and capital, and creates jobs. Some view it as an obstacle, claiming that its role should be deregulated and reduced because its involvement can lead to market distortions and corruption. Some do not like either argument, declaring that the state is less important compared to other factors in determining the development trajectory of a country. These factors include geography, ethnic diversity, conflict, and political institution. I believe that the last position is the strongest; while the state does play an important role in growth, it is not the most important. I believe that the political institution a country operates under is more significant to dissecting this relationship than the intervention of the state. First off, what are the arguments in favor of the correlation between the state and economic development? One argument is that the state provides structure and order, which in turn reassures domestic and foreign investors, giving them an incentive to invest. A state provides order by controlling violence, as told by Robert Bates in The Formation of States. Bates describes how the rise in prosperity in 14th and 15th century Europe led to an increase in violence and conflict. As the value of agricultural land and its ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Mobilizing Knowledge Of Multinational Corporations 1 Mobilizing knowledge in Multinational Corporations: The Role of Regional Relays in Mobilizing Local Knowledge Globally Mobilizing knowledge in Multinational Corporations The Role of Regional offices in Mobilizing Local Knowledge Globally Esia Yosupov NYU Poly School of Engineering Author Note This paper was prepared for Global Innovation, section 7953, taught by Dr. Rao Bharat2 Abstract In recent years, innovation has been coming from places we least expected of. MNCs headquarters are no longer the primary source for creating innovation. Globalization has enabled firms to expand their businesses overseas and strategize competitive advance through its global subsidiaries. In the nexus of innovation, valuable knowledge can be generated at any level of the MNCs, in particular at local levels. As firms became global, it has become challenging for MNCs to mobilize knowledge generated at local units. This paper advocates for the role of regional offices as knowledge mobilizers. Regional offices act as knowledge brokers for diffusing innovation generated locally to other locations within the MNCs. It outlines a mechanism of local to global innovation cycle, which includes: knowledge identification, knowledge extraction, and knowledge diffusion.3 Mobilizing knowledge in Multinational Corporations The Role of Regional offices in Mobilizing Local Knowledge Globally Introduction In today s fast changing environments, multinational corporations (MNCs) need to be innovative in order ... • 5. Heneman Trailer Truck Drivers Literature Review The job of a tractor trailer truck driver can vary greatly from company to company. Therefore, this analysis will focus on the core tasks and requirements. According to the National Center for O*NET Development, heavy and tractor trailer truck drivers are required to ensure equipment is working properly, follow safety procedures for transporting goods, make certain that cargo is secure, drive and maneuver trucks, read and interpret directions, and maintain logs according to relevant regulations. This requires knowledge of transportation, public safety and security, and the English language. It also requires skills and abilities in operation and control, monitoring, time management, critical thinking, reaction time, control... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Trucking jobs at one company may look very different from those at another, and their selection systems should reflect that. It is also important to remember to follow any regulations in place in the geographic location. With that said, recruitment strategies should be creative and try to extend beyond the traditional methods. Referrals may be useful in the industry, if care is taken to avoid adverse impact. It also makes sense to advertise in directed mediums, like in truck stops across the country. If the organization has the money to invest, they could also build their talent and provide training to the people they want to put into their talent pipeline by providing courses leading to CDL licensure. This could create a sense of commitment to the organization and reduce turnover. As far as selection, job history data may be more relevant to these jobs than it is to others. It would also be wise to check into any criminal history the person has. Verification of both of these sources is absolutely key to success. A physical would also be necessary to determine if the person is physically able to safely drive a truck. A simulation or road course would be ideal for this job, as it could determine if the driver would be able to handle the exact requirements of the job and can be highly ... • 6. Residential Schools In Monkey Beach By Eden Robinson Residential schools are educational institutions established for Indigenous children. It was funded by the Canadian government and administered by Christian churches with the sole purpose of civilizing the native children and assimilate them into the modern western culture. In the novel Monkey Beach, Eden Robinson describes the impact of residential schools on multiple characters in the story. Uncle Mick, Aunt Trudy, and Josh are just a few who have experienced many types of abuse physical, sexual, emotional and spiritual. Those horrid memories left permanent emotional scars and still resides with them even until adulthood. Residential schools disrupted lives, isolated families, eliminated cultural identity and caused long term problems among the Indigenous community. With the passage of the British North American Act in the 1867 and the implementation of the Indian Act in 1876, the government was required to provide Indigenous youth with an education to integrate them into Canadian society (Brady 1995). The first residential schools were set up in the 1880s and peaked around the 1920s. After the residential school system was established, children were stripped away from their parents and had no freedom to choose whether they wanted to attend. In these schools heavily controlled by catholic churches, children were forced to pray to whom they had no connection with and forbidden to practice their own culture. The goal was to convert the children to Christianity and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Anne Moody s Coming of Age in the Mississippi At the start of the book a naГЇve, young and innocent African American girl lived life almost oblivious to the socially constructed issue of race. She did not see the difference of skin color and believed it was perfectly normal to socialize with whites. As far as she was concerned raced did not exist. This view was quickly altered and changed as the little girl named Essie Mae Moody grew up fast in a society dominated by racial boundaries involving whites, blacks and a hierarchy of people who had parts of both. Essie s first encounter with racewhich initiated her first change, from being oblivious to being confused, occurred early in life. This was the worst of my fears. 8 This fear was also given life because she was not aware of what criteria or actions could cause an African American to be killed. She came to the conclusion that being black was enough.9 I was fifteen years old when I began to hate people. I hated the white men who murdered Emmitt Till and I hated all the other whites who were responsible for countless murders...and those I vaguely remembered from childhood. 10 The section of the book that this quote comes from shows an attitude toward race that Essie Mae retains for a significant amount of time. Her feelings were characterized by anger. As the story progresses it comes to be known that Essie does not solely blame the whites. She considered the black community just as guilty for allowing the atrocities to occur. At this point in time Essie Mae showed that she did not blame just one side of the racial spectrum; she blamed everyone for their part in contributing to the problem.11 Her anger eventually transformed into hatred as more atrocities occurred that involved the killings of African Americans. The major event that caused Essie Mae Moody to hate was the murder of Samuel O Quinn. This murder was the straw that broke the camel s back in relation to Essie s shift to saying she hated whites. His death reminded her of all the other killings she had buried away inside of her that were waiting to explode. She was even more angry that she wanted to take direct action against what was ... The maximum water potential is nil; an example of which is within pure water hence water molecules will flow from it to any other aqueous solution regardless of how dilute it may be. There are three possible concentrations of solution. The first, a hypertonic solution, has a higher solute concentration than that of the cell and as a result the water will leave the cell resulting in collapsed vacuoles in plant cells. A hypotonic solution, however, has a lower solute concentration than the solute concentration inside the cell and hence the net movement of water inside the cell is at its maximum. Whilst an isotonic solution is when the concentration of solutes is the same inside the cell as it is outside of the cell; in such as case the cell would not lose nor gain any water. This state is otherwise recognized as dynamic Equilibrium where the molecules are randomly distributed despite there still being a rapid net movement of water across the cell membrane in both directions; water movement in opposing directions occur at the same rate and thereby cancel each other out. Larger differences between the concentrations or water potential of the solutions results in a steeper concentration gradient, meaning a faster rate of osmosis. • 9. Amelia Earhart Disappearance The disappearance of the Babe of the sky Amelia Earhart was, and still is, one of the most famous women in history for being the first woman to cross the Atlantic Ocean. On July 2nd, 1937, the famous pilot and her navigator, Fred Noonan, mysteriously vanished while attempting to circumnavigate the globe around the equator ( The Odd Vanishing Of Amelia Earhart. ). There are many different theories on what could have happened that day that range in believability and it is important to add that there is little to no evidence for any of them. The circumstances to where and when they died also had a large factor in the conspiracies. Earhart and Noonan s plan was to circle around the globe starting and ending in California, USA. The flight would start on May 21st, 1937, was to last approximately forty days, and they were going to make many stops, zigzagging along the equator to refuel ( The Odd Vanishing Of Amelia Earhart. ). However, according to the Jet Propulsion Center (JPC) at Caltech, that with the headwind and the 10,000 ft climb she had to take at the beginning of the trip, Earhart s plane would ve been out of fuel at the time of the disappearance. Many groups had taken years to search the area all around the island to try to find any evidence of the crash. • 10. The Ethical Marketing Strategy Of Pharmaceutical Advertising What are some of the ethical issues associated with this marketing strategy? Pharmaceutical advertisements has been the subject of deliberation for more than a century. Pharmaceutical advertising and marketing make up a large fragment of the activities of pharmaceutical corporations. These publications can be extremely informative as long as they are analytically evaluated. However, the data enclosed in promotional material may be scant or erroneous. Assuredly, the pharmaceutical marketingactivities has a great effect on the behavior of the physicians however hidden rather than suggested in its script noticeable (Makowska, 2014; UKessays, 2015). The ethical marketing strategies in the pharmaceutical industryare procedures used to sell medicines morally. The strategy must be as such that it does not influence the decision making criteria of physicians. Ethical marketing is usually referred to as the use of marketing ethics into the marketing process. The establishment of marketing ethics has the potential to benefit society as a whole and should be considered a part of business ethics in the sense that marketing forms a substantial part of any business model. Marketing strategies are organized into five classifications: physicians targeted promotions; direct to consumer advertising; unethical recruitment of physicians; researchers conflicts of interest; and data manipulation in clinical trials. • 12. Essay Comparing the Culture of Cambodia and American Culture Comparing the Culture of Cambodia and American Culture After reading the novel Children of the River, I have learned some customs that people in Cambodia practice in their country. In this essay, I shall describe some examples of their traditions and contrast them with the American culture as shown in the novel and Honduran culture of which I am most familiar. One good example of this contrast is when Sundara, the main character of the novel, explains to Jonathan (Pg 23) that in Cambodia, students at school show respect to their teachers. Students don t ask questions to their teachers if they don t understand a lesson. In their culture, asking such questions is a sign of disrespect. Sundara explains in the novel that people ... Still another example of Cambodian customs is when Soka tells Sundara (Pg. 80) about Naro s mother feeling disappointed of lack of respect for the elderly in America. In Cambodia it is impolite and rude not to show respect to adults. They bow and show consideration to them. In my opinion, this practice is used in many countries too. In Honduras, if a person doesn t show respect for the elderly, he or she would be considered rude to others. In addition, in page 84, Sundara tells Jonathan that in Cambodia a girl doesn t go out with a boy alone. Cambodian girls are not allowed to go out without company. It is not part of their customs; it is not acceptable in her country. For Sundara it is difficult to explain to Jonathan that she must not be disobedient even though they are not doing anything wrong. She needs to follow her traditions. Another interesting Cambodian custom (Pg. 109) is when Sundara tells Jonathan that in Cambodia people believe that is bad to touch a little kid s head. They believe that it might make them lose their intelligence or their soul. In my opinion, it is fascinating to learn different customs from diverse countries because that way we can avoid make other people feel uncomfortable. It is important to know how a simple touch can disturb an entire culture. Finally, for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Currently, there are 41 sites on six continents employing 3,600 farmers and 17,000 other workers across the world (McCain, 2015). McCain has had several external environmental factors affecting their businessincluding social, legal, economic, political, and technological forces that they have had to overcome and adapt to. Due to these factors, McCain has had numerous opportunities and threats that affect business strategy, philosophy, and initiatives. The volatility, uncertainty, complexity, and ambiguity of strategic planning and decision making and how it affects McCain s strategy will be discussed below to show how McCain is handling changes in the environmentand their business outcomes. McCain s response to the external environment is important for their success in business and competition within the foodindustry. External Environment Strategic leadership and decision making occurs first with an assessment of the external environment. Strategy can be compared to a plan, except it is broader in scale, long term in nature, and surrounded by more uncertainties (Fernandes, 2009). Successful decision making and assessments can shape an organizations strategy to better accommodate for threats, opportunities, strengths and weaknesses. (__) Gay Marriage in the past few years has been a topic that has been highly debated and discussed. As with any controversial issue, there are two sides to this argument. One side, the opposition, cites religious view points and concerns about fornication and further raisse concerns that the rights of marriage should be restricted to heterosexual couples (Debate.org). An increasing number on this side of the argument have recently changed their opinions over the last few years as a result of mounting pressure from LGBTI groups. People supporting marriage equality assert that marriage is a civil right and therefore should not have restrictions based on sexual orientation. This side firmly believes that love, not sexual orientation, is grounds enough for marriage (Debate.org). The supporting side seems to be the populist view point, as evidenced from the recent changes of law in some of the most prominent countries in the world, such as America. • 16. Should 16 Year Olds Be Able To Vote Due to the society we live in today I personally believe that 16 year olds should be able to vote. For one, they are given the responsibility to drive, pay taxes, and can be charged with a criminal defense as an adult. With that being said they are being treated like an adult. Also, at that age you as an individual know what is best for yourself and others of your age group. This can go as far as gun ownership which is a problem in some countries, minimum wage as they are the prime age group that is being affected, as well as education as it affects them in the future and other generations behind them. Lastly, it would give a greater say in what other generations have to think about who is leading and area or country. Do you still believe 16 year olds shouldn t vote? The legal working age in Canada is 14, however the age where most teens are hired is 16. Working teens at 16 are asked to contribute to their countries wealth by paying taxes. Bishop Introduction________________________________________________ Since its collapse, historians have attempted to explain the struggle for power and control over both the Roman Republic and the Roman Empire that followed. To explain the complexities of the Roman Republic, the Empire, and their political complexities can be a daunting task. For nearly ten centuries Rome would rule most of the known world before the fall of the Western Empire (Byzantine) in 476 C.E. By that time, the Republic had extended its control throughout the Mediterranean Sea and as far as Britain. That control would operate under an informal unwritten constitution, and establish the use of Latin as its official language, while codifying rights, responsibilities, and status under a written law. Beginning with the Law of the Twelve Tables, Roman jurisprudence would develop over the next one thousand years into a legal system that would eventually become the early basis for law in continental Europe. Even English and North American common law owes more than a passing debt to the Romans. Case law and precedents find their roots in a Latin legal term, stare decisis, meaning to stand by things decided . The development of a written law was seen as a method of eliminating indiscriminant application of the law by magistrates and officials upon the lower plebeian class. The Assemblies The establishment of a written law set the foundation for a republican government whereby responsibilities and duties would be divided among various representative assemblies. Their members would in turn cast votes concerning the action to be taken in regard to the issues placed before them. Membership in these early assemblies would be limited by such things as class, income, family ties, and affiliations. The assemblies had various and specific functions within the Roman republican ... The dissertation project addresses the problem of trying to build a stock trading system based on prediction models obtained with daily stock quotes data. We will apply different models to predict the returns of IBM stocks at the New York Stock Exchange. These predictions will be used together with a trading rule that will generate buy and sell signals. This chapter addresses several new data mining issues: (1) how to use R to analyze data stored in a database; (2) how to handle predictionproblems where there is a time ordering among training cases (usually known as a time series); (3) and the consequences of wanting to translate model predictions into actions. 3.1 Problem description and objectives Stock market trading is an application domain with a big potential for data mining. In effect, the existence of an enormous amount of historical data suggests that data mining can provide a competitive advantage over human inspection of this data. On the other hand there are authors claiming that the markets adapt so rapidly in terms of price adjustments that there is no space to obtain profits in a consistent way. This is usually known as the efficient markets hypothesis. This theory has been successively replaced by more relaxed versions that leave some space for trading opportunities. These artifacts may be carried out for instance by the use of 0.3M acetic acid/0.2M sodium acetate (pH = 4.5) solvent which does not form aggregates in this mixture. Under these conditions, the absolute M values were obtained from steric exclusion chromatography (SEC) equipped with viscometer and light scattering detector on line allowing to determine the Mark Houwink parameters without fractionation and also to obtain the relation between the radius of gyration (G) and the molecular weight(MW). What was the main drive behind the development of an efficient meritocratic government in Prussia? Explain how this (the main drive in the prior answer) promoted an efficient bureaucracy. (Chapter 4) Prussia was a liberal autocracy and the citizens did not have any way to directly hold the state accountable for these rights, however even with this type of government structure, the state had sustainable protections regarding the rights of its citizens. From 1308 to 1320, Dante Alighieri began and completed his Divine Comedy, a three part poem entailing his visionary journey through the realms of Hell, Purgatory, and Paradise. It intertwines aspects of Roman Catholic doctrine with Classical philosophy and contemporary politics, all in the dialect of Florence . He wrote this for a myriad of reasons, ranging from the inspiration of his muse to the politics of late 13th century Florence. The biggest political concern at the time was the struggle between church and state for secular power. The lovers are changed by their meeting with the children of Pan. For the people who constructed this play and brought these worlds to life in the plays in theatres, the first questions that I would ask are: what do the fairies look like, and how is their world different from ours? • 45. Susan Cain Ted Talk Analysis The Power of This Introvert Susan Cain s Ted Talk The Power Of Introverts brought a new conversation to society in how introverts are treated. Five years ago (when this took place) this topic was not very well discussed, which made this piece very eye opening for some. Using Aristotle s appeals: logos and pathos, as well as a comparative argument in her ted talk, Cain persuades viewers that we as a society oppress/shame introverts, not allowing them to strive or be themselves in our now extroverted society. She advocates for a more balanced society that serves both introverts and extroverts instead of just extroverts. Cain s speech uses pathos to allow the audience to understand how introverts are oppressed in society, and why this is a problem. Cain starts the speech off with an emotionally driven story that demonstrates how she was shamed for her introverted tendencies as a young girl in camp. I got the message that somehow my quiet and introverted style of being was not necessarily the right way to go, that I should be trying to pass as more of an extrovert. This idea that introverts are encouraged and almost forced to be someone they are not is pathos because it persuades the audience through a feeling of injustice and compassion, as well as relatability from fellow introverts. • 51. Schleroderma Research Paper Although the specific cause of Scleroderma is unknown, there are a few main factors known to identify with Scleroderma. Scleroderma affects not only the surface of the skin but the joints, bones and in severe cases other internal organs such as heart, liver, kidneys, and gastrointestinal system. The main causes are over production of collagen and damage to bloodpathways which lead to a change in connective tissue. The overproduction of collagen is due to the hyperactivity of the autoimmune system which signals the body to produce more collagen than needed which leads to thickening of the skin, therefore restricting normal function. More specifically, the body recognizes the antigen proteins on the connective tissues as damaged tissue or foreign bodies. As a result, the autoimmune system goes into its defense mode which is a hyperactive state. In this state, it produces an excess of antibodies and growth factors. Growth factors are a hormone or substance that is required to stimulate growth or synthesis in cells. The specific chemicals that are produced are cytokines and chemokines. • 54. The Importance Of Free Speech And The First Amendment All the time, people are heard protesting about Free Speech , and The First Amendment . What rights are really protected under the First Amendment according to our Constitution? The answer may be shocking. In the United States of America, the concept of free speech is widely called upon to reinforce the legality of offensive spoken words or actions. In reality, not all speech is protected under the First Amendment. Sure, everyone is entitled to their own opinions, but where is the line between what opinions are acceptable to be spoken of in public, and what is inappropriate or too offensive. The true answer lies in the definition of the word public. While government run agencies such as public universities have little they can do about what students say, private colleges have virtually no requirements by law. Public universities have very little say in what students are allowed to say or do so long as their speech and actions are reasonable. Reasonable is defined as, for the duration of this essay, that they are not directly threatening to any person or group, they refrain from using fighting words , and they do not take part in slander or libel. Any restriction of reasonable free speech by a public universityis unconstitutional. While public universities have requirements put upon them to allow most free speech, private colleges have no such rules. The only requirements for any private collegeto allow free speech are those put upon themselves by contract, or in few cases, put upon them by their state. Private colleges are private so that they may choose which morals and ideals they put forward and deem important. Although most private universities are not required to allow complete freedom of speech on their campuses, many add an assurance of free speech or some variant of free speech in their handbook. Free Speech Zones have become a popular solution to the ever growing problem of the combination of protesters and easily offended people across the United States.
