Reasons Why America Won The War In Vietnam
Soviet Union Moscow was North Vietnam s ally. They supplied weapons and military advisors, over 3

How Seamus Heaney s Childhood Affected His Poetry Essay
How Seamus Heaney s Childhood Affected His Poetry
Seamus Heaney was born in the North of Ireland in 1939 on a farm with his mother and father and
nine other siblings. Generally Heaney s poems are influenced by animals through his childhood
experience, specifically within The Early Purges and An Advancement of
Learning . Heaney grew up near Belfast, during the time of The
Troubles , the Irish civil war. Although Heaney left at the height of the war, it is obvious his work
reflects his experiences of that time.
For an example The Early Purges illustrates this. Where they consider death unnatural . Growing into
an environment where Heaney will appreciate that death does exist, the extract interprets killing to be

They seem weak and terrified.
Heaney uses words such as, purges , the water pumped in , scraggy wee shits , dunghill and dung to
suggest that the kittens seem like waste. The title reflects the idea of waste, as the word purges means
getting rid of undesirables. The water pumped in, indicates what happens when flushing a toilet,
therefore getting rid of waste.
Dan Taggart calls the kittens, scraggy wee shits which shows that he doesn t care about the killing of
the kittens and treats them as waste to be got rid of. He justifies his actions by suggesting the kittens
have no value. A dunghill can be used for getting rid of dung and the kittens are sluiced on the
dunghill. The word sluiced means
flushed indicating a toilet, so the kittens are therefore treated as waste. Throughout the poem we are
viewing the killing through Heaney s eyes and it is evident that he does not like the killing as he uses
words such as soft , tiny and frail to suggest the kittens are innocent and harmless. The words, For
days I sadly hung round the yard, watching the three sogged remains and the fear came back suggest
he was affected by the carnage and murder he witnessed. However, toward the end of the poem he is
forced to accept the killing and torture.
Heaney became numb, unfeeling and almost deadened. This is shown in the words, I just shrug,
Bloody pups . It makes sense . He is almost imitating Dan Taggart at this point to justify

Vermeer s Skopos, Coherence, And Language
Pragmatics is concerned with the study of meanings as communicated by a speaker (or writer) and
interpreted by a listener (or reader) (Yule 1996). Pragmatics target is to bring speech to its context in
order to understand correctly; as basically in the communication through language there is a way more
than what is said. Pragmatics cannot by any means be explained without comparing it to semantics.
Semantics is known as the study of literal meaning, on the other hand, pragmatics is the study of non
uttered meaning intended by a speaker (writer). Pragmatics is not concerned with the mere meaning of
the language, rather it is concerned with examination of language and the effects of language on
hearer. It investigated also inference of what is said (written) to finally arrive at true interpretation of
intended meaning. Speaker (writer) may say a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are three basic rules of Vermeer s Skopos theory: Skopos, Coherence, and Culture. The theory
stresses the interactional aspects of translation arguing that the shape of the TT should above all be
determined by the function or skopos that is inteded to fulfill in the target context (Shuttleworth and
Cowie, 156, 1997). Coherence is the second rule of skopos theory; there are two types of coherence:
intratextual and intertextual. Culture is the third and final rule of skopos theory.
Skopos rule represents the major and first rule of skopos theory, it solves the eternal dilemma of free
vs faithful translation which represents an evident that the translator s precognition of the purpose of
any translation would aide the translator to choose the translation approach that achieve these skopos.
And (Nord 1997) indicates that skopos of the same translation may need free or literal translation or
mixture of both, it is to be determined by the purpose of the translation each time translation process is

Suicides-Personal Narrative
It s been over two weeks and Evan is still not sure what he s gotten himself into and the only one to
blame is himself and his wired therapy letters. So now where is he? Oh yeah, pretending to be Connor
Murphy s best friend because his parents thought he wrote a suicide note to Evan. And of course, he
just went with it. Told the Murphy s all about his great friendship with their son who was surely going
to kill him once he woke up. Evan would love it if the ground could just open up and swallow him
whole. His phone ringing interrupts his daydream about no longer existing. Evan pulls his phone out
of his pocket and blanches when he sees it s Mrs. Murphy. H hello? he answers cautiously. Maybe it
was just a pocket dial, maybe he could just avoid the Murphy s forever. Evan? She sounds concerned

Human Impact on the Carbon, Nitrogen, and Phosphorus Cycles
Danielle Abbadusky
Everest University
Human impact on the cycling matter in ecosystems can change a lot of things. Humans can either help
or hurt things. The carbon, nitrogen and phosphorus cycles are the three cycles of matter in
ecosystems. What are these cycles? How do humans effect each one of these individual cycles? What
are some examples of humans effecting these cycles? What is the carbon cycle? Sequence of
processes through which carbon compounds move from one carbon reservoir or sink (such as forests
and oceans) to another (such as atmosphere) and back. Since more carbon dioxide is being released
into the atmosphere through the burning of fossil fuels and less ... Show more content on

These compounds are taken up by plants as nutrients from the soil and converted into plant proteins
(amino acids). Plant proteins become animal proteins when eaten and metabolized by herbivorous
animals, and when carnivorous animals eat the herbivorous. These proteins return to the soil through
animal excrement and the decomposition of dead animals and plants, and are converted into carbon
dioxide, water, and ammonia (gaseous compound of nitrogen and hydrogen) by a set of bacteria in the
soil. A portion of this ammonia is converted into soil nitrogen (fixed nitrogen) by another set of
bacteria and the balance is released into the atmosphere as free nitrogen (N2). (nitrogen cycle, n.d.)
Human impact on this cycle is very significant. Farmers plant crops such as; peas, beans, and alfalfa.
These crops pull nitrogen from the air which helps raise the rate of nitrogen fixation on the land.
Farmers also plant corn and wheat which are sprayed with nitrogen derived from industrial fixation.
All of these crops help humans to survive. Having these crops benefiting humans we are more than
doubling the amount of nitrogen that s moved from the atmosphere to the land. When sulfur is
released by burning fossil fuels, which humans do, this is killing and polluting our lakes and ponds
and killing our forests. With these and other chemicals being put into our land, these are reaching our
oceans and big areas of water and this will

Emily Dickinson Poetry Analysis
Han Wei
Katherine O Callaghan
Intro to study of literature
15th November 2017
Negotiation Between Death and Eternity in Emily Dickinson s Poems
Emily Dickinson lost her father on June 16, 1874 (Sewall 69). The sudden loss of her father stunned
her and she wrote in a letter that she was wondering where he is. Without any body, I keep thinking.
What kind can that be (Letter, 471). When Dickinson s mother passed away in November of 1882,
Dickinson also wrote in a letter about her wonder at her fate and she was seeking what it means
(Letter, 815). The wonder in both letters shows that Emily Dickinson is a person who looks inward for
the mystery of death. Many of her poems convey her preoccupation with death, concern with
immortality and doubts about fulfillment beyond the grave. I will analyze I heard a Fly buzz when I
died (591) and Because I could not stop for Death (479), both of which deal with the death and
eternity. These two poems reflect the conflicting attitudes of Emily Dickinson towards afterlife.
In I heard a Fly buzz when I died (591), the narrator describes the last moments of her life and the
moment of her death. The poem begins with a startling statement that describes the moment of her
death, making readers know that she has already died. In the first stanza, it is so quiet that the narrator
can hear a fly, leading to a contrast between the stillness and the fly s buzz. And there is a simile that
the contrast is likened to the stillness in the air and heaves of storm. The simile here not only
emphasizes the silence in the room, but also leads to a further metaphor. The simile adds meaning
back onto the stillness in the room that the stillness connotes the process of death.
In the second stanza, the narrator s attention falls upon the mourners around her. She sees the
onlookers in terms of sight and sound. Their strained eyes and gathered breath imply that they have
waited for the last Onset (), which is the final moment of death, for a long time. And they are prepared
for the arrival of the King , who is the personification of death.
In the third verse, the narrator s keepsakes () have been signed away () and assigned. However, the
poem implies that what is given away

Dunbar responded by explaining: Both are my personal friends and I should feel myself rather
niggardly if I should withhold from them first sight of the things that are in their line merely because
now that my things are selling I could get better prices elsewhere... I feel a sense of honor and
obligation towards these men which is a little beyond price. (Revell 108) This determination of
Dunbar to have his works printed in major literary publications showed his sincere desire to have his
more serious, non dialect short stories to be exposed to the public.
Dunbar s short stories include the works Folks from Dixie , The Strength of
Gideon and Other Short Stories , The Heart of Happy Hollow and others. The last artistic
accomplishment of Paul Laurence Dunbar s life was labeled as a serious novelist. Dunbar wrote four
novels between 1897 and 1901.
The first two of these works, The Uncalled (1898) and The Love of Landry (1900) are white novels in
which all the characters are white and no reference is made to the presence of Black people. The other
two novels, The Fanatics (1901) and The Sport of the Gods (1902) are considered to be black novels.
Dunbar s first novel, The Uncalled, was written in England in 1897, and was published to little
commercial success. Critic Benjamin Brawley considers the work only partly a success and remarks
quite unjustly upon the lack of local color and the mediocre quality

Changes In Polar Bear Eating Habits
On the western shore of the Hudson Bay, biologists have been studying the drastic changed in polar
bear diets and their new eating habits. Through their studies of polar bear scat and video surveillance,
the biologists have come to the conclusion that polar bears are beginning to adopt a new form of food.
They are beginning to eat from the abundant source of snow geese. The snow geese have been
traveling farther north in the spring to nest in the grassy, arctic marshes. Here they lay their eggs,
vulnerable to predators such as the polar bear. Due to the global warming, the arctic ice has begun to
melt at a much faster pace. This means that polar bears have less time and less ice to hunt for seals.
The polar bears have always relied on seals

Beauty Is The Quality Of Beauty
What is Beauty? Greek Philosopher, Plato, once said: Beauty lies in the eye of the beholder. Everyone
has different points of view about what beauty is. Some people may perceive beauty as how someone
looks on the outside. Others may see beauty as being confident in your own skin. According to
dictionary.com, beauty is the quality in a thing or person that gives intense pleasure to the mind. For
me, beauty comes in act of kindness, in nature, and smiling faces. Beauty comes in act of kindness.

the rocks. As I get in the water, I feel the power of the wave pulling me towards it pushing me further
and faster away from the sand into the deep water. I got the opportunity to see a dolphin jump out of
the water. I took hours looking at the horizon. As I stayed there look out into the horizon, the sun has
almost set just the tip is left to disappear into the water. The sky changed from blue to yellow and
orange to pink and purpl. I got to see the sky go from day to night. As I start walking back I took one
last glimpse of the sky I could see the bright and high moon. I could see the horizon with moonlight
reflection in the water. It is certainly easy to understand why nature is appealing. Beauty is in nature,
but it can also be in smiling faces. When I was in high school, I volunteered to make and hand out
food to those who were less fortunate. We first stopped at a shelter where people were sitting either
watching television, reading the newspaper, or just sitting and talking to a friend. We walked in and
put a box of sandwiches on a table, and started to hand them out. The people were very grateful and
said thank you with huge smiles on their faces. Watching those people smile, bite into sandwiches, and
drink their drink warmed my heart. Their smiles made me smile. Knowing that my time was used to
make someone s day more hopeful. I began

Using the internet has become an everyday task for many people in their day to day lives but they don

constantly changing and so are the viruses and threats that are after users information. One way
hackers are able to receive web users information is from a fault called injection flaws. This process
allows attackers to relay malicious code through an application to another system (owasp). Injection
flaws can happen to any website or application on web 2.0 that uses external programs. Companies
rely heavily on these external programs to keep their information safe. If these external programs have
one wrong coding slip when a website filters through the http process a hacker can slip into the coding
slip and take over from there. There are many different types of injection flaws from query language,
LDAP, Xpath, XQuery and the most common SQL injection. SQL injection is the most common and
biggest threat of injection flaws. This attack consists or insertion of a SQL query via the input data
from the client to the application (owasp). If this virus is successful it would give a hacker the
information they need to steal identities and change information stored on a computer. Hackers that

Racism In Angie Thomas s The Hate U Give
Angie Thomas novel The Hate U Give is the story of a teenage girl facing racism in the world around
her. Starr Carter lives in Garden Heights, a neighborhood filled with gangs, when one of her best
friends Khalil is shot by the police, she is quick to know he had been killed because of the racism that
exists in our world. Throughout the novel, Starr is constantly trying to show the world why Khalil died
in order to get justice for his death. She does not believe he deserved to die or the cop who shot Khalil
deserves to walk free of the crime he committed. Through different characters, the author is able to
convey the message of one should not form opinions on someone or something based on stereotypes.
Throughout the novel, some characters struggle with judging people before they know their past.
Angie Thomas is able to get this across to readers not only through Starr, but also characters such as
her father Maverick, her friends from school, and even Officer Cruise, the officer who killed Khalil.
Stereotypes in the novel are one of the main causes for Khalil s death. The officer had killed Khalil
because he had automatically assumed Khalil was a threat to him. Officer Cruise treated both Khalil
and Starr with disrespect at the time of the arrest because they are African American. When Khalil
began to move in order to ask Starr if she was okay, the Officer assumed he was reaching for a
weapon because he had already formed an opinion about Khalil based on his skin color even

Book Of Genesis Vs Jahwist
The Book of Genesis is the first book of the Hebrew Bible and the Christian Old Testament. As the
book s name suggests, (transliterated from Greek, meaning origin ), Genesis details the creation
narrative for both Judaism and Christianity. The book also contains several stories that detail the
subsequent development of the world, including the fall of man, the gradual corruption of the world
due to sin, Noah, and the great flood, and the story and genealogy of Abraham and his descendants.
Due to the nature of the inception of the Book of Genesis, the various stories contained within differ in

by Jewish priests who were in exile in Babylon. This source was written just about 90 years after the
conquest of the Kingdom of Judah by Babylon, which resulted in the destruction of Jerusalem and
Solomon s Temple and the subsequent exile of the Jewish elite, including the priest. As its name
suggests, the P source is primarily concerned with priestly matters and topics such as ritual law and
genealogies and it is told from a perspective in heaven. A major difference between the P and J source
is their depiction of God. Unlike the human like J God, P s God is immaculate and transcendent, being
responsible for all the things in the world due to his supreme power and will. Instead of being
physically present in certain stories, like J s God, P s God remains beyond the world and reveals
himself in stages subtly. Another major difference is that, unlike J, which focuses on mankind s
increasing corruption and violence over time, P constantly seeks to reaffirm the inherent goodness of
man and all of creation. P s creation story makes it known that is mankind is made to be (in his image
and likeness) his representatives and regents on Earth. Following P s creation narrative, the genealogy
from Adam to Noah is described, which ends with P s version of the flood. This version once again
contrasts with J s version, as it much less emphasizes

Great Expectations Changes
Great Expectations by Charles Dickens is a classic American novel. Great Expectations is about the
protagonist, Pip, and how he matures into a gentleman throughout the entire story. Pip s adventure
begins in in the foggy marshes of Kent, England when Pip was just a common boy. Pip grows from an
innocent child to an experienced gentleman. Pip s relationship with Magwitch changes throughout the
novel as Pip develops into a gentleman. At the beginning of the novel, Pip s relationship with
Magwitch haunts Pip, but their bond grows to be very beneficial and concrete for Pip. In the first stage
of Pip s great expectations, Pip meets Magwitch. While Pip is paying his respects to his parents in the
cemetery, a tattered and bruised convict approaches him. We can tell Pip is frightened by the way
Charles Dickens describes the setting as foggy. The fog is used to symbolize danger and uncertainty.

then arrested and put into jail. He loses his trial and is sentenced to death. But in the prison, Magwitch

Essay about Christian Teachings on Wealth and Poverty
Christianity teaches us that wealth is not what you need to enter heaven. To enter heaven you must be
caring and share your riches with the poor and needy. As a result of Jesus teachings, the early churches
shared all they had to make sure no one was in need. Jesus taught us that the pursuing of wealth could
lead you into temptations. He said that we will be judged not on the size of our bank balance, but on
how we have helped those who are less fortunate. A well known Christian teaching goes as follows: It
is harder for a rich man to go to heaven than it is for a camel to go through the eye of a needle . This
means it is impossible for a camel to go through the eye of a needle. ... Show more content on

This quote is telling us that being rich, having power or fame, or having any human achievements is
not true happiness. True happiness comes from helping your fellow man. Therefore the Catholic
Churches view is clear that they think being self centred and narrow minded is the wrong way to go
about life. Catholics believe that you be able to realise the suffering of the other people around you
and help those people. To summarise, Christianity teaches us that we must share our riches with the
poor and needy if we want to go to heaven. Greed and selfishness is unchristian. Christians today still
follow Jesus teachings by doing the following things: · Giving clothes to charity shops such as Oxfam.
· Donating money to charity. · Doing voluntary work to collect donations to charity. · Islamic
teachings on wealth and povertyFunded races and other activities. The Islamic religion teaches its
followers to base their lives around the five pillars. One of these pillars is called Zakah, Zakah is
meant to purify the money you leave so it cannot harm you in the future. Muslims have very strict
rules, one of which is not to gamble. The reason being is because it is a sinful temptation and is
against what the Islamic Religion teaches. Muslims are also encouraged to help the poor by refusing to

is a congenital disease. A German doctor named Ullrich published his article in 1930. American doctor

second most common characteristic. Having abnormal chromosomes does not mean that girls with
Turner syndrome are not really female; they are women with a condition that causes short stature and
poorly developed ovaries.
Affected females may also exhibit the following symptoms: infertility, kidney abnormalities, thyroid
disease, heart disease, abnormalities of the eyes and bones, webbed neck, low hairline, drooping of
eyelids, abnormal bone development, absent or retarded development of physical features that

and highly skilled. Mattel claims that she can do more than 150 jobs and buy anything she wants,

Studies made by Suzanne Ive compares girls exposed to images of Barbie dolls with girls exposed to
images of Emme dolls that represent a more realistic body shape. They find that very young girls
experience heightened body dissatisfaction after exposure to Barbie doll images but not after exposure
to Emme doll (or neutral control) images (Ive, 290). Therefore, the evidence suggests that the body
shape of Barbie does affect girls view of their bodies. Because girls admire Barbie s unattainable body
shape, they become disappointed at their own bodies. Some people argue that children will not be
influenced if they realize that Barbie is just a toy. This is true. As they grow old, children forget those
toys with which they used to play, including Barbie dolls. Therefore, a simple toy is not going to
influence a person s mind too much. However, the anthropometry of Barbie represents a widespread
stereotyped view of beauty in our society: thinner is better. In Am I Thin Enough Yet?, Sharlene Hesse
Biber describes a girl who crazily lost weight by dieting, vomiting and endlessly exercising
(Rothenberg, 547). The girl does so because it is commonly admitted that a thin woman is always
prettier and more attractive to men than a fat woman. This is similar to racism. Racism is not about
how you look, it is about how people assign meaning to how you look (Kelley, 2003). People thought
that white skin was better so white people used to be considered

is about an affair between Mr. Quebert and a fifteen year old girl named Nola Kellergan. On August
30, 1975, Nola disappeared. Now, thirty three years later, the body is found, and Mr. Quebert is
blamed. Young, upstart author and student of Mr. Quebert, Marcus Goldman shows up on the scene to
free Mr. Quebert by leading an investigation and publishing a book. The more he digs, the worse

Stereotypes In The Office
Do you think that someone will be good at a sport because of their race? Michael Scott from the T.V.
show The Office thinks so. The Office is a sitcom which depicts the typical office environment with
Michal Scott being the boss who is very insensitive and says things most people would see as very
rude, but he thinks of as normal. In the office Stanley is the only African American and Oscar is the
only Latino, these two are typically quiet and are insulted by Michael. Other notable individuals in the
office include Kevin who is an out of shape middle aged white man and Dwight who is a very socially
awkward middle aged white man. In season 1 episode 5 titled basketball Michael organizes a
basketball game between the office and warehouse staff. Throughout the shows Michael stereotypes
employees of various races and what sports they should be good at . In the process of picking the
basketball team it was most notably displayed with many statements being made by Michael as to who
would be at various sports based on their ethnicity. He made statements inferring that Stanley would
be a starter because he is black. Another statement that he made was to Oscar Martinez a Latino

Analysis Of I Was Sleeping Where The Black Oaks Move
As a reader, a human, and a creature, what makes one connect to the natural spirit world? Grievances,
mourning, and anger are human emotions, but could these three emotions be used to describe the
natural world of Mother Nature? In 1984, award winning author Louise Erdrick of French Chippewa
descent used personification, imagery, and a theme of unrest for the Native American people and spirit
to craft I Was Sleeping Where the Black Oaks Move. Louise Erdrich was born in Little Falls,
Minnesota, and raised in Wahpeton, North Dakota by her mother, a Chippewa, and father, a German.
The daughter of two Wahpeton Indian School teachers and the granddaughter of the tribal chair for the
Turtle Mountain Chippewa Reservation, Erdrich was bathed in the culture, life, myth, of the
reservation and Native American culture. In 1976, Erdrich received her bachelor s degree from
Dartmouth and soon moved back to North Dakota to pursue teaching. However, two years later
Erdrich received a fellowship to teach composition and creative writing at Johns Hopkins University
where she completed her Master s degree a year later. Upon the completion of her fellowship, Erdrich
moved to Boston and became the editor of the Boston Indian Council newspaper, The Circle.
Furthermore, Erdrich published several critically claimed works including Jacklight a collection of
poetry which included I Was Sleeping Where the Black Oaks Move ()

Postive Effects of Medieval Social Classes Essay
The development of social classes in medieval England affected life for the people in many positive
ways. It served as a means of organization to base their daily lives off of, and also gave the peasants
and trade classes protection from the rulers and the clergy class in return for their labor and allegiance
( Quizlet ). Life in the Middle Ages was based on the framework of social classes so they could
flourish socially and economically. The British class structure was a configuration of five main
classes. The King owned all the land and distributed portions of it to his nobles. He was part of the
ruling class, along with the Pope and the rest of the royalty (Pattie). The Pope was the religious ruler

Monks were the scholars of this time period, and they spent the majority of their time praising God
and attending prayer meetings and church. The last group of people in the clergy class was the nuns.
They weren t as intellectual as the monks, so their jobs involved catering to the people by nursing the
sick to health in the infirmary, educating young children, and caring for orphans (People of the Middle
Ages ). The next group of people was in the middle class. They were the citizens of the town, and they
acquired high amounts of money so that their families could live comfortable lives. The mothers in
these households were not obligated to work because the man of the house could financially support
the whole family ( Middle Class ). Sometimes they had servants to help the women with household
chores and duties like cooking, cleaning, and caring for the children. This class also included shipmen,
cooks, and high class merchants (Schwartz). Below the middle class was the trade class, which
included merchants and craftsmen. Men involved with retail would travel great distances to achieve
authority and power over certain trade routes ( Middle Ages: The Medieval Social Classes ). The trade
class hugely impacted the towns and the people because their income and trading skills helped to
stabilize the economy. Peasants and the middle class often disagreed with the work of the merchants
because the priests and the bishops were highly against it. They believed

The Pros And Cons Of Indian Atomic Bombs
Not long after May 11, 1998 at Pokhran, a betray site in the Indian province of Rajasthan, gatherings
of neighborhood Bishnoi herders whose traditions prohibit murdering creatures or cutting trees heard a
gigantic blast, and viewed in astonishment as a colossal clean cloud coasted in the sky. What the
Indian ranchers did not understand, but rather the representatives in Washington and around the globe
soon got a handle on, was the way that India had quite recently joined the United States, Russia,
England, France and China as the most up to date individual from the atomic club. On that warm May
evening, Indian atomic researchers effectively detonated three nuclear gadgets adding up to around six
times the ruinous energy of the American bomb dropped on Hiroshima in 1945. The following day, as
the world endeavored to retain the alarming news, India touched off two more atomic blasts.
Indeed, even as 90% of Indians acclaimed then Prime Minister Vajpayee s choice to go atomic, at that
point U.S. President Clinton quickly responded to the blasts with stun and reprimanded India s atomic

Theme Of Spring Fever And Scott Pilgrim Vs The World
The purpose of films is to entertain an audience through the appeal of its characters and the plot. In
many cases, most people overlook the setting which plays a major role in the experience. The choice
of location/city by the writer is also a protagonist which can mold the events within the story. More
often than not, creators romanticize the cities by masking the location with their twisted plots
subsiding the presence of the setting. The reader will view an in depth comparison of the films, Spring
Fever and Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, and how the location assists in the development of the plot and

due to the origin of country they set opposite tones of homosexuality. Throughout Spring Fever, the

Poetry In Poe s The Raven By Edgar Allan Poe
Every time we hear the word poetry we immediately think of romance and beauty. However, having
read the poem The Raven by Edgar Allan Poe, we have concluded that even dark and gloomy poetry
has its own meaning. While going through its stanzas, the magnificent style and rhythm of Poe s
writing made me feel like I also was in the room with the narrator. The poem itself is an incredible
experience, filled with deep meanings and symbols that if you re not aware of them you can totally
misunderstand the plot. Poetry is an old style of writing which utilizes aesthetic and rhythmic qualities
of language to summon and describe feelings. The distinctive styles vary in how the writers
incorporate the rhythm and the musicality of its stanzas. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Furthermore, Poe emphasizes the o sound in words such as Lenore and nevermore in order to
highlight the lonely melancholy sound of the poem and also to establish the overall atmosphere.
Additionally, the repetition of nevermore gives the poem a circular sense while also bringing forth a
larger meaning to the poem. Like in many other poems from Poe, The Raven refers to an agonized
protagonist with memories of a deceased woman. Lenore, the woman he speaks of in the poem, we
could assume she had a premature death which makes the narrator unable to free himself of the pain of
her memory. He often asks the raven if there is balm in Gilead and therefore spiritual salvation for the
woman. He also asks if she really exists in the afterlife, but the raven confirms his worst suspicions by
rejecting his supplications. Leaving all this behind, one the most interesting things about the poem is
the raven. Referencing what we learned in class, Poe thought of the raven as the bearer of ill news for
a number of reasons. Initially, Poe was looking for an animal that could mimic and produce human
like sounds without actually understanding the meaning of them. He first tried using a parrot, the bird
could easily repeat words that he could have heard before and it really didn t understand them at all.
However, for the dark propose of the poem, such a colorful bird wouldn t fit the profile. Then, he
thought of the raven, this one couldn t

Building Effective Teams And Teamwork, And Leading...
Group skills are comprised of 3 core aspects which are: empowering and engaging others, building
effective teams and teamwork, and leading positive change. Each one of these core elements is very
important in developing group skills and can always be improved if the proper approach is taken.
Effective empowering and engagement is made up of 9 various dimensions. For example, personal
mastery experiences, modeling, providing support, arousing positive emotions, providing information,
providing resources, organizing teams, creating confidence, and delegating work are all dimensions
making up effective empowerment and engagement. I received a 12 for all of the elements listed and a
60 for delegating work which gives me a sum score of 156, placing me in the high ability to empower
others quartile. I agree with this score, because I like to help and give others the opportunities to shine
and reach their potential. I like to think of myself as a self less person and help others grow and reach
their potential and accompany on my journey as well. Personal mastery experiences are experiences
that give employees the confidence and ability to be successful at a particular assigned duty. Modeling
is how the leader goes to serve as an example for empowering others. Providing support is the extent
in which a leader helps employees feel empowered through help and insight. Arousing positive

The Causes Of Happiness And Happiness
Money. It can determine a lot of things for people; social ranking, how others think of you, and even
happiness. Many people think that when you have money you also have happiness. Yes that can be
true, but just how true is it? Money can be the cause of happiness and also sadness, needless to say
money have a huge impact on every single person. Everyone wants money I think it s safe to say,
everyone wants to feel stable. Yes its great to have money; you can do more things, travel more, and
make family and friends happy with gifts you could buy them. But after all the toys and material
things are gone can you say that you re happy, or that something s missing still? When you go out to a
fancy restaurant what do you remember most, the people you take or the meal you just consumed?
Research shows experiences provide more happiness than material goods in part, because experiences
are more likely to make us feel connected to others (Mandi Woodruff 5 Reasons Why Money Isn t
Making You Happy ). People make connections that last with their personality, not their money. This
has the same concept as growing up in a wealthy family. Some kids grow up never really having a
relationship with their parents because all they want to do is work to make more money. People crave
the love and attention from someone more than they want money. We as humans like to feel secure in
a lot of different aspects in our lives, and if we aren t being loved, that could be the worst of it all.

Explain The Pillars Of Market Economy
The United States economy is held together by the pillars of the market economy. They consist of
private enterprise, competition, private property, profit motive, and consumer sovereignty. The pillars
are the basis for capitalism, as well as free enterprise. The market economy is the economy that values
the freedom of the people. Private enterprise is values the freedom of the individuals to own a
business. Private enterprise means that the individuals own the businesses. In a market economy,
entrepreneurs can start any legal business that they wish. The government is not allowed to own a

with golden rice, the isolation of genes that produce specific enzymes may change the type of pests

Nintendo And The Gaming Industry Essay
Nintendo, the once prominent leader of the gaming industry, may be going down a dangerous slope.
Since 1983 when Nintendo introduced the Nintendo Family Computer in Japan, later called the
Nintendo Entertainment System in the United States, Nintendo has relied on its lovable characters,
innovative products and family appeal to win the hearts of gamers alike. However through heavy
competition from various competitors and the increase in mobile gaming popularity, Nintendo may be
finding it harder to keep gamers of all types interested, especially when it s Nintendo who has become
lazy in keeping with the industries trends.
One of the biggest competitive challenges for Nintendo is the growing pressure on emerging gaming
platforms like Apple s iPhone and iPad. Nintendo also faces a competitive challenge from Sony s
Playstation and Microsoft s Xbox. In order to stay relevant, Nintendo must always be actively
competing in the market to remain strong; the President of Nintendo, Tatsumi Kimishima, has said
that the new console will be nothing like any existing system by Nintendo, solidifying this point.
The Wii represents the core product appeal of Nintendo, which is being a family oriented gaming

The Time Succeeding Herbert Hoover s Presidency

IB History of the Americas Period 10

Essay Topic 2 Question A The time succeeding Herbert Hoover s presidency became a period of
reconstruction. The Great Depression caused thorough damage through the entire nation. Citizen s
trust stood nonexistent and their motives were vacant. Franklin Roosevelt came into office with
upfront critical responsibilities. In order to save what was left of the United States, Roosevelt had to
approach the detrimental economy with an open mind. He came up with many solutions, some
received questionable appraisal from the people such as the New Deal. The New Deal served as an
attempt to uplift the economy by assisting banks, creating jobs, and financing businesses. In Roosevelt
s mind, government affiliation was vital. The policies sparked controversy among business owners as
they argued it was unconstitutional and put capitalism at stake. The New Deal proves effective in
saving capitalism by initiating a strong federal government to regulate the economy. After the collapse
of the economy in 1929, banks were in crucial conditions. Citizen s trust faltered as Hoover preached
to them empty promises about how things would get better. Franklin Roosevelt s mission with the
New Deal was to recuperate all that was lost during Hoover s presidency. Within the New Deal was
passed the Federal Emergency Banking Act. This act helped produce loans, credit and investment
opportunities for the public. The production

The North Korean Famine
North Korea has been receiving financial support from the United Nations as well as food supplies.
Many people would claim that North Korea has an ongoing famine due to the floods they would
continuously experience throughout the years, damaging the soil. Others would argue and say that the
famine happened because North Korea is a communist country and the military is purposefully
starving their people. Regardless of these arguments, the fact still remains, the people of North Korea
are dying rapidly due to malnutrition. The only solution feasible to this problem would be to send

The reason for this, is because it will cost millions of dollars to try and restore even a portion of the
land in North Korea. According to Phil McKenna, North Korean scientists told the delegates that they
would like to reforest hillsides with trees, including the Japanese chestnut, black chokeberry, and
Korean pine, that could both stabilize the soil and provide edible fruits and seeds. But funding for such
reforestation appears tight (McKenna 17). The solution is possible, however, it will cost too much to
fix. There have been ideas of trying to restore everything back to the way it used to be, but there are
insufficient funds to do so. It is cheaper to send North Korea supplies of food and some money, rather
than doing something that will benefit all of North Korea. Not to mention the fact this solution is short
term and does not benefit North Korea as much as the previous solution would. Money seems to be
the only problem with this solution, Even if the nurseries were running at full capacity, North Korea
would still have a long road ahead of it. Bowers estimates that reforesting even half the country would
cost around $46 billion, an amount that exceeds the nation s annual gross domestic product by $6
billion (McKenna 17). If Kim Jong Un were willing to provide their own money into this solution,
there would be better soil and crops in North Korea. This solution is not an easy one to overcome,

Language As A Form Of Control
Language as a Form of Control:
The Use Psycholinguistics in Babel 17
The psychology of language has always been a complex and fluid study in which scientists investigate
the cognitive processes that make it possible to generate a grammatical and meaningful sentence out
of vocabulary and phonetic structures, as well as factors that let people acquire, produce, and
comprehend language as an entirety. Samuel L. Delaney s 1966 science fiction novel, Babel 17,
explores a psycholinguistic approach to understanding the human mind, illustrating the complex
effects of language on thought. We see firsthand how specific vernaculars hold the capability to
manipulate the mind, and altogether change the patterns of thought, making language a central figure
in behavior and grasping concepts.
Psycholinguistics is the study of the way operations of the mind make language possible. It is a cross
disciplinary field, stemming from findings from areas such as cognitive psychology, theoretical
linguistics, phonetics, neurology, discourse analysis, semantics, and education.
Essentially, the field explores the cognitive processes that underlie the function, storage, and
acquisition of language. While psycholinguists understand that language users are unique individuals
that possess different linguistic repertoires, their primary aim is to research general patterns of
behavior across the human mind. Those patterns could potentially illustrate the capabilities and biases
of the human psyche and

Setting big goals, taking small steps and being focused in my pursuit I know I will achieve all I set my
mind to. The definition of a relator is someone who is especially talented in enjoying close
relationships with others. They find deep satisfaction in working hard with friends to achieve a goal.
When I look back and reflect on personal influences in my life, no one has made a greater impact than
those of my parents. All I am I owe to my

Symbols In The Bull Moose By Alden Nowlan
In the poem The Bull Moose by Alden Nowlan, he accurately portrays how out of touch man has
become from nature. The speaker is an observer who is watching the neighborhood interact with the
bull moose. At first, the townspeople stand around and stare at the moose and wonder where he came
from. They believe that the moose is docile, so they begin to treat him like an old, tolerant collie but at
the end, they are reminded of his incredible power. Throughout the poem, the speaker maintains a
sympathetic tone toward the moose as they watch the group torment him. Through the speaker and
powerful imagery, the theme is revealed. The author uses symbols to help the reader understand his
theme. In the poem, the three most important symbols are the ... Show more content on

Lawrence the reader follows the unusual love story of a woman named Mabel. The story begins with
Mabel s three brothers discussing what they will do once their family farm has sold. While her
brothers question her about what she will do she remains silent. Mabel s thinks her life is so
meaningless because she feels oppressed by her brothers. Not only had she been maintaining the
household alone for 10 years but they often call her names and talk at her no to her. The author adds,
They had talked at her and round her for so many years, that she hardly heard them at all showing how
long this oppression had been going on. While she is described as having plain features her brothers
say she looks like a bull dog . Her life becomes unbearable when the family runs out of money. Before
her father died leaving them a heap of debt she believed life was worthwhile because at the very least
they had money. Her brothers were still awful to her and had a reputation for being promiscuous, but
they had financial security. To help the reader understand why money is so important to her the author
states, ...so long as there was money, the girl felt herself established, and brutally proud, reserved .
Once the money is gone Mabel feels hopeless as she thinks that there is no longer a life for her. While
her brothers make plans on where to go once the farm is sold she does not make any decisions. She
values security and without money,

Extravert Sensing Thinking Judger
A human being s personality can be seen even when they are babies: when we cry, how we approach
people, and how we communicate with people as a baby. Now, these personalities do not stay the
same throughout their growth; many of them change and characteristics alter according to how they
grow up childhood, religion, and the environment. I myself have had a very different personality when
I was a child, compared to myself as an adult. I am an Extravert Sensing Thinking Judger (ESTJ). As
an ESTJ I tend to overlook and supervise the people around me; I like to take control and hold
responsibility. This doesn t always appear to be a positive trait, but it appears when it is necessary and
appropriate for a situation. One of the few things I did ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, we feel the need to be in lead and supervise. When we show this trait, people feel
offended of our commanding and overbearing instructions. I dislike the times when I am forced into a
change and transition because I need time to subdue the unusual and unfamiliar events that have
occurred. I am not a perfectionist, but I get frustrated with people who are sloppy, irresponsible and
inefficient; because that means they are not considerate of me at work. Finally, ESTJs tend to think
they are right with their opinions and decisions, which is not the best trait to show in the workplace.
The gap between the differences can be filled in with understanding and consideration towards each
other. As a result, for ESTJs to improve our performances at work, we can practice being patient,
impartial when making decisions and loosen up our mindset from being too dominant. Our differences
show our uniqueness, but they sometimes cause dissension and conflicts. We only need to learn how
to give recognition and respect our

Male Infertility Research Paper
Infertility consists of having an inability to conceive after having unprotected sexual intercourse.
Infertility also refers to biologically, being unable to contribute to conception, or for a female not
being able to carry a foetus [1]. Infertility is a rapidly growing issue in society; in fact, 1 in 8 couples
have issues related to infertility [2]. Assisted reproductive technology (ART) is the technology used to
achieve pregnancy in procedures such as fertility medication, artificial insemination, in vitro
fertilization and surrogacy [3]. ART is a major breakthrough for society as it gives couples whom are
infertile a chance to have a family. Though ART is revolutionary, it is still very important to

endometrium in preparation for the fertilized egg do not occur.

male infertility [9].

the passage of sperm. These include epididymitis (epididymis inflation) and orchitis (testicles) [9].
Antibodies Attacking Sperm

How Seamus Heaney s Childhood Affected His Poetry Essay How Seamus Heaney s Childhood Affected His Poetry Seamus Heaney was born in the North of Ireland in 1939 on a farm with his mother and father and nine other siblings. Generally Heaney s poems are influenced by animals through his childhood experience, specifically within The Early Purges and An Advancement of Learning . Heaney grew up near Belfast, during the time of The Troubles , the Irish civil war. Although Heaney left at the height of the war, it is obvious his work reflects his experiences of that time. For an example The Early Purges illustrates this. Where they consider death unnatural . Heaney uses words such as, purges , the water pumped in , scraggy wee shits , dunghill and dung to suggest that the kittens seem like waste. The title reflects the idea of waste, as the word purges means getting rid of undesirables. The water pumped in, indicates what happens when flushing a toilet, therefore getting rid of waste. Dan Taggart calls the kittens, scraggy wee shits which shows that he doesn t care about the killing of the kittens and treats them as waste to be got rid of. He justifies his actions by suggesting the kittens have no value. A dunghill can be used for getting rid of dung and the kittens are sluiced on the dunghill. The word sluiced means flushed indicating a toilet, so the kittens are therefore treated as waste. Throughout the poem we are viewing the killing through Heaney s eyes and it is evident that he does not like the killing as he uses words such as soft , tiny and frail to suggest the kittens are innocent and harmless. The words, For days I sadly hung round the yard, watching the three sogged remains and the fear came back suggest he was affected by the carnage and murder he witnessed. However, toward the end of the poem he is forced to accept the killing and torture. Heaney became numb, unfeeling and almost deadened. This is shown in the words, I just shrug, Bloody pups . It makes sense . He is almost imitating Dan Taggart at this point to justify ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Pragmatics target is to bring speech to its context in order to understand correctly; as basically in the communication through language there is a way more than what is said. Pragmatics cannot by any means be explained without comparing it to semantics. Semantics is known as the study of literal meaning, on the other hand, pragmatics is the study of non uttered meaning intended by a speaker (writer). Human Impact on the Carbon, Nitrogen, and Phosphorus Cycles Danielle Abbadusky Everest University Human impact on the cycling matter in ecosystems can change a lot of things. Humans can either help or hurt things. The carbon, nitrogen and phosphorus cycles are the three cycles of matter in ecosystems. What are these cycles? How do humans effect each one of these individual cycles? What are some examples of humans effecting these cycles? What is the carbon cycle? These compounds are taken up by plants as nutrients from the soil and converted into plant proteins (amino acids). Plant proteins become animal proteins when eaten and metabolized by herbivorous animals, and when carnivorous animals eat the herbivorous. These proteins return to the soil through animal excrement and the decomposition of dead animals and plants, and are converted into carbon dioxide, water, and ammonia (gaseous compound of nitrogen and hydrogen) by a set of bacteria in the soil. A portion of this ammonia is converted into soil nitrogen (fixed nitrogen) by another set of bacteria and the balance is released into the atmosphere as free nitrogen (N2). (nitrogen cycle, n.d.) Human impact on this cycle is very significant. Having these crops benefiting humans we are more than doubling the amount of nitrogen that s moved from the atmosphere to the land. • 8. Emily Dickinson Poetry Analysis Han Wei Katherine O Callaghan Intro to study of literature 15th November 2017 Negotiation Between Death and Eternity in Emily Dickinson s Poems Emily Dickinson lost her father on June 16, 1874 (Sewall 69). The sudden loss of her father stunned her and she wrote in a letter that she was wondering where he is. Without any body, I keep thinking. What kind can that be (Letter, 471). When Dickinson s mother passed away in November of 1882, Dickinson also wrote in a letter about her wonder at her fate and she was seeking what it means (Letter, 815). The wonder in both letters shows that Emily Dickinson is a person who looks inward for the mystery of death. Many of her poems convey her preoccupation with death, concern with immortality and doubts about fulfillment beyond the grave. I will analyze I heard a Fly buzz when I died (591) and Because I could not stop for Death (479), both of which deal with the death and eternity. These two poems reflect the conflicting attitudes of Emily Dickinson towards afterlife. In I heard a Fly buzz when I died (591), the narrator describes the last moments of her life and the moment of her death. The poem begins with a startling statement that describes the moment of her death, making readers know that she has already died. In the first stanza, it is so quiet that the narrator can hear a fly, leading to a contrast between the stillness and the fly s buzz. And there is a simile that the contrast is likened to the stillness in the air and heaves of storm. The simile here not only emphasizes the silence in the room, but also leads to a further metaphor. The simile adds meaning back onto the stillness in the room that the stillness connotes the process of death. In the second stanza, the narrator s attention falls upon the mourners around her. She sees the onlookers in terms of sight and sound. Their strained eyes and gathered breath imply that they have waited for the last Onset (), which is the final moment of death, for a long time. And they are prepared for the arrival of the King , who is the personification of death. In the third verse, the narrator s keepsakes () have been signed away () and assigned. Starr Carter lives in Garden Heights, a neighborhood filled with gangs, when one of her best friends Khalil is shot by the police, she is quick to know he had been killed because of the racism that exists in our world. Throughout the novel, Starr is constantly trying to show the world why Khalil died in order to get justice for his death. She does not believe he deserved to die or the cop who shot Khalil deserves to walk free of the crime he committed. Throughout the novel, some characters struggle with judging people before they know their past. Angie Thomas is able to get this across to readers not only through Starr, but also characters such as her father Maverick, her friends from school, and even Officer Cruise, the officer who killed Khalil. Therefore, the evidence suggests that the body shape of Barbie does affect girls view of their bodies. Because girls admire Barbie s unattainable body shape, they become disappointed at their own bodies. Some people argue that children will not be influenced if they realize that Barbie is just a toy. In 1984, award winning author Louise Erdrick of French Chippewa descent used personification, imagery, and a theme of unrest for the Native American people and spirit to craft I Was Sleeping Where the Black Oaks Move. Louise Erdrich was born in Little Falls, Minnesota, and raised in Wahpeton, North Dakota by her mother, a Chippewa, and father, a German. The daughter of two Wahpeton Indian School teachers and the granddaughter of the tribal chair for the Turtle Mountain Chippewa Reservation, Erdrich was bathed in the culture, life, myth, of the reservation and Native American culture. In 1976, Erdrich received her bachelor s degree from Dartmouth and soon moved back to North Dakota to pursue teaching. However, two years later Erdrich received a fellowship to teach composition and creative writing at Johns Hopkins University where she completed her Master s degree a year later. It served as a means of organization to base their daily lives off of, and also gave the peasants and trade classes protection from the rulers and the clergy class in return for their labor and allegiance ( Quizlet ). Life in the Middle Ages was based on the framework of social classes so they could flourish socially and economically. The British class structure was a configuration of five main classes. The mothers in these households were not obligated to work because the man of the house could financially support the whole family ( Middle Class ). Like in many other poems from Poe, The Raven refers to an agonized protagonist with memories of a deceased woman. Lenore, the woman he speaks of in the poem, we could assume she had a premature death which makes the narrator unable to free himself of the pain of her memory. He also asks if she really exists in the afterlife, but the raven confirms his worst suspicions by rejecting his supplications. He came up with many solutions, some received questionable appraisal from the people such as the New Deal. The New Deal served as an attempt to uplift the economy by assisting banks, creating jobs, and financing businesses. In Roosevelt s mind, government affiliation was vital. The policies sparked controversy among business owners as they argued it was unconstitutional and put capitalism at stake. The New Deal proves effective in saving capitalism by initiating a strong federal government to regulate the economy. After the collapse of the economy in 1929, banks were in crucial conditions. Samuel L. Delaney s 1966 science fiction novel, Babel 17, explores a psycholinguistic approach to understanding the human mind, illustrating the complex effects of language on thought. Psycholinguistics is the study of the way operations of the mind make language possible. It is a cross disciplinary field, stemming from findings from areas such as cognitive psychology, theoretical linguistics, phonetics, neurology, discourse analysis, semantics, and education.
