Summary Of Language By Angela Carter
Language is the most complex form of communication. Throughout time, language has lost some of
its meaning, it is no longer all about the conversation. Language has become such a powerful
instrument used for building relationships between people and even places. Angela Carter, explains
her ideas on the topic. She recognizes language as something with substance behind it, not just talking
for the purpose of vocalizing. The weight you put behind what you say gives it the meaning. Carter
proposes that language is the tool that holds all power that gets exerted when speaking. She believes
language gives the people everything they need to exist individually and with one another. The history
of a language ties in with the culture, the roots of certain words are what make the civilization what it
is today. Carter further points out that language influences control and release, the act of domination
and liberation. Everything considered, what Carter reveals about language is eye opening. She invites
a new perspective on the idea that language is power. Carter leaves this open to interpretation, but we
see how language is powerful enough to emotionally hurt people. Using it as an instrument of culture,
we are able to open our eyes on the stagnation of progress in making the society we live in today to be
as equal it can be. Carter is clear in helping us recognize language is used to both create and destroy
but fails to include the various forms of language besides speaking vocally.

Study Objectives And The Home Company
A. INTRODUCTION: Founded in 1993, a vision was brought upon five entrepreneurs. Their names
are Greg Provenzano, Tony Cupisz, Mike Cupisz, and Robert Stevanovski, and Onur Edipov. We were
tired of working for others and decided to change our lives forever. We started a company called ACN,
(American Communications Network) everyone with a business mind set has one goal, and to work
for something by they want to be part of. How can you do that? Simple! Create your own company. B.
STUDY OBJECTIVES AND THE HOME COMPANY: In the beginning, ACN was only working
with helping customers by reselling long distance services in the U.S and over time we expanded to

Our company is partnered with Project Feeding the Kids, as well as others like Ronald McDonald.
When we acquire customers and they set up an ACN customer, a child gets fed. And when you pay
your select ACN bills each month, another child gets fed. What better feeling can you get knowing
you are helping over a million kids get fed each year when over 17 million don t know where they are
getting there next meal from. The company conducts there sales by using multilevel marketing.
(MLM) This is a method of product and service distribution. This process is often mixed with a
pyramid scheme. The difference is 1. We don t sell or hold product, 2. All of our IBOs are working for
themselves. They make there own rewards by finding new customers and getting partners. Each level
of customers and partners contributes for there own wealth. I am one of the Co founders of the
company and my role is to work with all our international headquarters and set base in new countries.
This way we can help the country prosper in business growth and savings for the general population in
whole. Each country we interact with involves different services. In North America, we work with
telecommunications, gas, electricity, and water. In the U.S we are located in in Concord, North

New Imperialism Analysis
The New Imperialism was centered on nationalism, social Darwinism, and economic expansion. The
colonizers of the time were focused on only improving the state of their own countries and never even
paid attention to what the indigenous peoples were forced to do. All they wanted was influence and
power. On the other hand, the colonized had no control over the situation. They had no power to fight
back against the countries taking them over, and they were forced to change their way of life to the
ways of the white man. Rhodes was a perfect example of one of those colonizers, he believed that the
English were the most superior race and that the world would be better if the English took over. This
is a completely nationalistic view of

Lessons Learned from A Very Old Man With Enormous Wings
A Very Old Man With Enormous Wings is a short fiction story written by Gabriel Garcia Marquez in
1955. Magical realism plays a major part in this story by the use of fantasy of an old man being
portrayed as an angel who has come to create miracles to a family along with many other believers.
Some will believe, others will just shoo this so called angel away in a painful and heart breaking way.
I enjoyed this story very much. I was able to get very interested. Marquez starts it out with On the
third day of rain. That line right there is magical because angels are of God, and on the third day God s
son rose from the grave. It was the third day that Pelayo came upon ... Show more content on

Just like in this story, many people were throwing leftover foods to him, coming to him just for a
miracle, then having nothing more to do with him. They had only used him and did not see him for
who he really was. What would seem to be humiliating to me and was to the angel, I assume, was that
a priest, Father Gonzaga, sent away to Rome for a judgment on what they should do.
A human with wings was foreign to these people. Some did not believe because an angel is appeared
to be beautiful. This old man was just your average Joe with wings to many people. However, some
had paid money to see this supernatural creature. What was magical at this point was when Marquez
talks about the woman who disobeyed her parents and was changed into a spider. How magical can
this be? A woman, who is a spider the size of a ram! The angel and this woman were the main
attractions of the town. The realistic element here is obvious. For instance, in the town of Ironton,
when someone goes to use the bathroom everyone knows about it. Similarly, it did not take long for
this town to hear the news. Anyway, the woman spider ended up getting more attention because her
story was of the truth to the town and the angel was only of mocking fun. Anyhow, people had paid so
much money that Pelayo and his family became rich. They built a mansion. Their child played with
the angel. The angel and their son both came down with the chicken pox at the same time. An angel

Sept. 13, 1768 with troops about to arrive, the people of Boston gathered in Town Meeting and
declared that the keeping of a standing army amongst them without their consent in person or by
Representatives of their own free election, would be an infringement of their natural, constitutional
and Charter Rights; and the employing such Army for the enforcing of Laws made without the consent
of the people, in Person, or by their representatives would be a grievance. (p45) The Bostonians, by
restraining their anger and offering no open affront to the troops, were able to win universal sympathy
and to make the whole policy of employing troops against them seem as ridiculous as it was odious. In
fact, such a calm prevailed that no real use could be found for the troops at all. March 5, 1770 Boston

outlandish jack tars as John Adams called them during the soldiers trial.
Soldiers received a heavy bombardment of snowballs and rubbish when they opened fire. 3 dead, 8

Concept Analysis of Empowerment
Empowerment is a concept we all have heard at one time or another it is utilized in numerous
professions and specialties. Analysis of this concept will further understanding of empowerment for
nursing professionals in areas from research, theory development or practice. Exploring the attributes,
consequences, implications and model cases of empowerment can assist the nursing professional in
utilizing empowerment to its fullest potential. Within the scope of nursing, empowerment can be seen
not purely as how it relates to the client, or the nurse but also how it relates to both the client and the
nurse (Rodwell 1996). The Walker Avant method was used to analyze this concept, as it was the most
commonly seen in nursing literature (McEwen ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Empowerment always includes power, as it is absolutely necessary. In the field of social work,
empowerment involves the partnership model in which power is developed with and among , rather
than power over consumers. (Cox, et Al 2008) Wetzel and Inglehart demonstrated the Human
Empowerment model in which it is demonstrated empowerment is essential to democracy, because it
is only effective if power is vested within the people. Empowerment in nursing stresses that in order
for a nurse to empower their patients, they must also surrender power. (Gibson, 1991) Seen in all three
disciplines, partnership is a process of enabling people to choose to take control over and make
decisions about their lives and critical to empowerment. It is also a process which values all those
involved. It is a democratic concept, fighting for the advancement of social justice and freedom of
choice. Value of self and others is an important attribute in empowerment, and is essential for
application of the concept. It is a very positive, proactive concept that requires effort from all sides of
the relationship, whether that is nurse to patient, or teacher to student, or

The effects of elevated gas prices cause Americans financial woes and lifestyle inconveniences. Many

with the opposing statement that Americans are not significantly affected and would not be until
something traumatic occurs. I fall in the low income range of less than $30,000 per year. Many people

vehicle I purchased in late 2004, with a 13 gallon tank. With the same driving habits, it now costs me

Essay On Dispositional Flexibility
Dispositional flexibility is the concept I find most important because it s a skill that all Air Force
personnel need to be effective leaders. They say that change is the only constant service members can
count on in the military. It s human nature to resist change, especially if the reason for it doesn t go
over well with the population. This is where the non commissioned officer (NCO) corps must step in
to ease tensions in the unit, while providing a positive outlook on the situation. Having dispositional
flexibility creates a better understanding of how to manage the changes on the horizon. The absence of
dispositional flexibility is when people only see the bad side of a given situation. An event that comes
to mind that caused many of my co workers to turn off their dispositional flexibility was the repeal of
the don t ask, don t tell policy in 2011. This was a very controversial issue that stirred up lots of
emotions. People were upset about things like co habitation in the deployed environment or not
wanting to have a gay suite mate in the dorms. This resistance to change was talked about openly in

negative reactions only produce negative results. Additionally, I am going to ensure that I keep my

Hiram Miller—a Essay
Yizhou Xu Section 002 Case: Hiram Miller A
I, the general manager of Hiram Miller Chicago branch, am considering we should have something
done with our current warehouse on Jefferson Street. The basic problem is that the 60 year old
warehouse is not capable for our daily business from many aspects any more as we move into the 21st
century. Due to many limitations, the shortcomings to run that warehouse are overwhelming the
advantages it remains. Small size, inefficient layout, obsolete facilities, low tech equipments and bad

The quality of the warehouse and the equipments can be improved if we whitewash the warehouse and
replace some old machines with the news. The working environment will be polished up and make the
work more efficient, meanwhile, will not change the basic operating structure. For example, good
condition elevators can eliminate the battle between the shipping and receiving departments. The
second choice is finding a third party warehouse which meets our basic requirements. We can utilize
third party to manage the warehouse and reach our goal as well. Finally, we can build a new
warehouse near the O Hare Airport where has ample of land so that we can construct a warehouse
fully meets our requirements. For our long term benefits, I strongly suggest to build a new warehouse
near the airport. Renovation is a short term solution and just keeps our business work normally and I
cannot believe how long that old fashion building would maintain. The core problems are the weak
floor and the low ceilings which cannot be restructured. Those will constrain heavy equipment to
move in. The work needs to be done by hand which means slow and more workers. On another hand,
if we rent a warehouse rather than own by ourselves, we will lose the control of the warehouse even
though it solves our problems. Thus, the effective communication and the specialized service may be
the problems. Despite of sacrificing the advantages of inner city location like vicinity of our

The Glass Menagerie Comparison
Many would never consider comparing the 1945 American classic play The Glass Menagerie by
Tennessee William, and the 2015 short film World of Tomorrow by Don Hertzfeldt; however, both
rely heavily on a complex memory motif that tries to conceptualize past hurts in order to face the
present woes of life. Furthermore, in both the film and the play, the viewer is called to become aware
of the distortions that dreams can bring to the format that the story is being narrated. They are each an
example of a case of complex love mixed in with past hurts which then morphs into formula for a
frustrating uncertain future where one never truly understand what is to come. Calling for the

Flirting with the idea of fragility of life and specifically the future, both have physical representations
of these ideas. This is exemplified in two specific places in The Glass Menagerie in reference to
Laura. First, the physical representation of the fragility of the future is Laura s glass animals. When
Laura crushes the glass unicorn in her hand when she finds out Jim has a serious girlfriend, this
represents Laura s future coming crashing down. The reader gets the sense that the young maiden will
never find love and that she shall live her future forever alone. Similarly, in The World of Tomorrow,
the physical representation of the fragility of the future is human life itself. With the process of

Workplace Violence Outline
A. Imagine a violent situation escalates in your work area. Violent workplace situations are becoming
more common in today s work environment. While many of these events seemingly happen in the
civilian sector, workplace violence is a current issue in the United States Air Force. Incidents
involving fatalities in Myrtle Beach, McGuire, Fairchild, and the Air Force Academy illustrate that all
members play a vital role in recognizing potentially violent situations. So while the definition of
workplace violence is subject to interpretation, the impact to the workplace quite clear, and the
proactive steps taken to prevent and diffuse these situations have huge social and economic benefits.

that is stressful which can cause emotional and physical illness. The pace and intensity of the change,
combined with uncertain economy, downsizing the workforce and the threat of possible job loss, and
the impact of these events on the individual and their family indirectly translates into an undercurrent
of anxiety, doubt, and even despair.
B. Explanation
i. Workplace violence most often involves aggressive behavior towards peers, subordinates,
supervisors, and other members of the workforce. This can range from verbal abuse to physical

Future Mobile Applications Demand Novel Wireless...
Future mobile applications demand novel wireless communication technologies due to new challenges
as sociated with the shortage of spectrums, low power radio architectures, and communication
security. For example, though mmWave can fulfill some of the spectrum demands, it can still struggle
to meet the growing demands for higher data connectivity over a myriad of devices, e.g., Internet of
Things (IoT) []. Therefore, more bands in the electromagnetic domains will be needed. Besides, in
current and future wearable devices, battery lifetime is the critical design constraint that limits the

significant challenge since future mobile devices ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When a longer range is demanded, the power consumption of the UWB transceiver increases
dramatically. Since RF trans mission follows the inverse square law that the power density is
proportional to the inverse square of the distance. In practice, when considering obstacles, multipath
and fading, which is a big problem of impulse radio, the scenario can be even worse. In other words,
increasing RF transmission distance will cost lots of power of RF devices, and shorten their battery
lifetime. This power bandwidth trade off of UWB can be alleviated by taking advantage of optical
wireless communications, which offers huge unlicensed bandwidth, high spatial re use capability, and
low co channel interference. Therefore, by creating a UWB/Optical relay, the communication range of
a UWB terminal can be extended without interfering other communications. On the other hand,
optical communication has a shortcoming of directivity, so handling mobility is more challenging in
optical systems than RF systems. This weakness can be overcome by using UWB as radio terminals
since impulse radio has less directional constraints. Moreover, since optical signals

The intent of this paper is to examine individualistic and communitarian cultural ideologies within two
distinctly different political environments. The first challenge in comparing two nations is deciding
which approach is most appropriate. There are several approaches in political science that have proven
most beneficial when making comparisons. This study will use a comparative government approach to

The problem is that our individual actions, each perfectly consistent with our individual preferences,
can and often do combine to produce collective outcomes that none of us would have chosen (Bickers,
11). And thus lead to the need for protection against those outcomes, administered through a
democratic government.
There are several authors that are noted for their dynamic research on the communitarian movement.
The spokesperson for the contemporary communitarian movement is Amitai Etzioni. He explains that
communitarians believe that the fundamental and central political problem is finding the right amount
of togetherness and common concern. He continues, if people are to individualistic, they fail to
support each other s efforts and to respect each other s needs. If people are too unified, they become
authoritarian and attempt to use the state to impose a common set of beliefs and practices.
Like ancient philosophers, communitarians find the lack of unified purpose and direction in society to
be a crucial problem. Those who speak of the joys of not associating with others, but of being left
alone by them, are most closely associated with individualism. And their noteworthy spokesperson is
author and abolitionist Henry David Thoreau. This early author, observing the pressures, expectations,
and demands made upon us by the societies in which we live, concluded that the mass of men lead
lives of quiet desperation (Scott, 51). The

The Notion Of Jesus s Identity In The New Testament
In the New Testament Jesus s identity as the Jewish messiah who is fully man and fully God is
revealed. This notion of the God man identity is logically supported by the argument called the
Trilemma. The concept of Salvation History signifies that Jesus is the fulfillment of the New
Testament promises and more importantly covenants. Subsequently, typology is the interpretation of
the Old Testament in the light of the New Testament with accordance with Jesus s identity as the God
man. For example, God revealed more knowledge to us through the stages of revelation. In these
stages God used words and deed to give us a fuller revelation. In the preparation stage God essentially
prepared for the coming of Jesus. This foreshadowing of Jesus took place in many parts of the Old
Testament.
The Trilemma according to the church simplifies the possibilities of who Jesus could have been. This
states that Jesus has reasonable belief to be considered a God man because he claimed to be divine.
This is seen to be evident in the quote Amen, amen I say to you, before Abraham ... Show more

This argument states that the church over exaggerated Jesus s whole life and ministry. Additionally,
that all of Jesus s followers and apostles were lying about Jesus conquering the grave and his miracles.
This theory is rejected by the fact that the apostles had nothing to gain but everything to lose. The
notion of the apostles being crucified, exiled, and imprisoned for a lie makes little or no sense. The
other possible counter argument say s that Jesus said all humans have a divine nature and that he never
intended himself to be out of the ordinary. Unfortunately, like the other counter argument this notion is
easily diminished because Jesus was an Israelite not a Hindu. Furthermore, Jesus was charged and
crucified for speaking the blasphemy that he was the messiah; the one and only divine Son of

Models For Diffusion Of Innovations Among Potential Adopters
Models for diffusion of innovations among potential adopters have been recently used to study the life
cycle of new products and to forecast first purchase sales. Those models are useful for managers as
decision aids to create and perform strategies to maintain the profitability of new products across their
life cycle. Bass (1969) pioneered this area of research with a model for diffusions of new products
under peer pressure via word of mouth. This model distinguished two parameters: innovation and
imitation. Later, Chatterjee and Eliashberg (1990) provided a microeconomic version of Bass s model
that included interactions among potential adopters and the formation of beliefs.
In Chatterjee and Eliashberg s model, potential adopters were risk averse and used the price and their
perceptions about the innovation s performance as inputs for utility functions. Thus, with Bayesian
methods, potential adopters updated parameters with information from past adopters. Our model also
focuses on informational influence on adoption of new products. However, we modified Chatterjee
and Eliashberg s model of beliefs formation and individual choice by taking into account the
possibility that influences take place only among consumers who are connected in a social network.
The objective of this article is twofold. First, we seek to determine how global parameters of the social
network, such as average path length and clustering, affect diffusion processes. Second, we attempt to
identify early

Rhetorical Analysis Of Gatorade s The Secret To Victory
Gatorade s most recent commercial, The Secret to Victory, focuses on defeat to help make their
advertisement effective. The commercial starts out with Michael Jordan, a star basketball player, who
asks, You want to know the secret to victory? This bold question grabs the attention of the audience.
The commercial continues with many star athletes, present and past, that state a time where they failed
in their respective careers. Later on, NFL quarterback Matt Ryan, answers Jordan s proposed question
with defeat, after a scene of him losing in the Super Bowl. In this essay, I will argue that Gatorade s
The Secret to Victory commercial is very effective by using rhetorical components and focusing on
defeat. The target audience for Gatorade is for athletes, but this commercial does a great job of
reaching out to a wide range of athletes. The advertisement targets athletes of the older generation,
along with athletes that are young. Gatorade uses two retired players, Peyton Manning and Michael
Jordan, along with two players nearing the end of their careers, Eli Manning and Serena Williams, and
three players that are currently in their prime, Kyle Schwarber, Matt Ryan, and Karl Anthony Towns.
The different ages in the commercial are extremely effective because athletes that would be interested

Claude Mckay America
America by Claude Mckay is a poem and also a sonnet. Most sonnets in the time of Williams
Shakespeare were always about a person feelings towards something and that s exactly what he did.
He wrote about the feelings he has towards America. According to a biography I read about Claude
Mckay, he was a Jamaican who immigrated to the United States. He was a poet and was inspired to
write several poems in New York. It started off stating, Although she feeds me bread of bitterness, And
sinks into my throat her tiger s tooth. He mentions how America is a Her, in other words, comparing
America to a woman like a motherly figure. Those first two stances meant disgust towards America
and also expresses his dependence on the country as well. Throughout

Analysis Of Mordecai Richler s The
Response Barney s Version Excerpt
In this excerpt, Mordecai Richler does an excellent job mixing both showing and telling. He is able to
skim over large periods of time without leaving the reader with questions, and gives just enough detail
that the audience is able to understand past events. Richler gives a great amount of detail about one
particular incident that enhances the essence of the event and contrasts with the last few sentences.
The small conversation that Richler added gives the reader a greater respect for what Leo
accomplished, and by contrast, demonstrates the great misjudgement the narrator made. Overall,
Richler does an excellent job of balancing showing and telling, and does so in an effective manner that
helps the audience gain insight into the situation through the use of contrast.

22 Short Rimfire Cartridge
The .22 caliber small diameter projectile was one of the first small diameter projectiles introduced and
has been developed and adapted for over a century becoming the most popular small bore caliber in
history. While most shooters automatically jump to .22 LR when they hear .22 caliber, however there
are hundreds of variations of the .22 caliber loadings and cartridges. The .22 Short rimfire cartridge is
one of the longest running .22 caliber cartridges still in production, it was introduced in 1857 for use
in a Smith Wesson revolver1. This development went on to lead to the .22 long, .22 extra long and a
whole lineage of .22 caliber rimfire cartridges all the way to the .22 WMR in 1959, another very
popular .22 rimfire design that has recently been giving the .22LR a run for its money. The .22 caliber

This round was officially adopted by the US military in the Vietnam War for use in the M16 rifle. Its
military adoption led to its surge in popularity, though its reception was a hard one due to
misconceptions about it ability to kill. The .22 is still being used and developed to this day. From new
innovations like the 5.7x28mm or the .22 TCM the .22 diameter bullet is being used in more platforms

The Six Major Barriers In Business Communication
Six Major Barriers in Communication In Chapter 2 of our textbook, Business Communication For
Success by McLean (2010), six major barriers to effective business communications exist. These are
cliché, jargon, slang, sexist and racist language, euphemisms, and doublespeak. Each of these barriers
can harm relationships, cause misunderstandings, delay work, and cause unnecessary drama in the
work place and in everyday life (Washburn, 2008). This is why discussing them and learning from
previous mistakes will help you identify when you are using them and hopefully help prevent their use
in the future. These major barriers can be very detrimental when used during communication.
The Six Barriers The six major barriers to effective business communication lead to misunderstanding
and often times conflict. Being able to identify them allows you to combat the misunderstanding by
seeking to overcome the barrier. This could also prevent conflicts from arising and keeping
communication lines open and trustworthy by avoiding the use of the six obstacles (McLean, 2010).
To avoid these obstacles, it helps to know what each one means and having examples to reference. I
hope these examples can be used to learn from and not be held against my character as I regret my
part in using these barriers in the past.

Employee Assistance Program
name Employee Assistance Programs was given by the National Institute of Alcohol Abuse and

In past 25 years, EAPS have grown very fast in quantity, focus, importance and scope to all
organizations. This new form of intervention has been implemented not only in the North America but
to varying degrees and in contrasting packages in other parts of world.
In varying forms EAPs have also been adopted by unions and by medical, legal and other professional
societies as well as by most civilian federal workers in the United States (Roman et al., 1987).

Most program heads are not trained in conducting a proper evaluation.
b) Preparation. Few programs cover an evaluation phase as part of the initial planning process and
more programs lack measurable goals and moto.
c) Standardization. The changes in models complicates the development of standardized, reliable and
valid measures in the program.
d) Data Collection. In many organizations available data is less than required for conducting a
meaningful evaluation. Confidentiality may limit access to data. The presence of a control group in
organization is important.
Conclusion
Many employees and employers who have experienced EAPs view them quite positively. Decision
takers in the organization must be convinced that investing in EAPs leads to a win win situation,
Organizational performance and enhancing employees wellbeing. While it will provide guidance for
personal problems, it will not remove problems like absenteeism, accidents or morale problems. The
major drawback of many EAPs is that they are geared towards microscopic intervention, after the
facts. Final conclusion seems to be evident: regardless of the approach chosen, regardless of the scope
and technology used, EAPs are in the market to

Sherwood Anderson s Society As An Outsiders
In Sherwood Anderson s Hands, and William Faulkner s A Rose for Emily, both authors introduced
main characters who are alienated in their respective societies. In Anderson s work, Wing Biddlebaum
is an outsider because he wants to escape from his society since he has been accused of being a child
molester. Similarly, in Faulkner s work, Emily hides from society since the prying eyes of the people
who see her gaze and oppression. In this way, both characters are outsiders in their communities by
the people s eyes on them. There are a variety of people in our society and divide into two main
groups. There are people who associate easily with other people are more likely to interact with
people. However, there are people who live in a quiet do not mix with other people. We call those
people an outsider. To define an outsider as a single sentence from dictionary.com, A person not

Among them, Wing Biddlebaum who is the main character in Anderson s work is not an outsider from
the beginning. He chooses to become an outsider because people are misunderstanding his action with
hands. Emily who is the main character in Faulkner s work is an outsider from the start. Emily, who
grew up in a wealthy family, is afraid of people eyes to her. In Sherwood Anderson s Hands, it is Wing

Being able to read her story to them, and hear their story, gave her a sense of belonging. When Ms

Freud s Id is the most appropriate personality theory for Precious mother. Her actions were irrational,

Physical education is a fundamental component of the Australian curriculum that maintains an
underlying goal of providing the knowledge and skills to students to allow them to live healthy and
productive lives. However, the beginning of physical education in its purest form can be traced back to
a time when human society was in its infancy, when the discipline would have been exhibited mainly
through necessary survival skills including hunting and spear throwing along with combat skills
involving wrestling and swordsmanship (Lumpkin, 2004). The ancient Greeks bestowed great honour
and prestige upon those who possessed athletic perfection through the emphasis on the anatomy of an
individual and their balanced life. This was coupled with the Olympic Games that were used to

Use, Function, And Meaning Of The Particle
The Use, Function, and Meaning of the Particle Lah in Manglish (Malaysian English) and Singlish
(Singaporean English)
1. Introduction Manglish and Singlish are English based creoles spoken in Malaysia and Singapore in
South East Asia. A portmanteau of the words Malaysian and English (for Manglish) and Singaporean
English (for Singlish), both these creoles borrow heavily from the other languages e.g. Malay,
Mandarin Chinese, Tamil, etc. spoken in Malaysia and Singapore while using English as the base
language (McArthur 57, Broadbent Vavilova 144). As a Malaysian, one of the most common
utterances in spoken Manglish and Singlish is the use of the particle lah in daily conversations
(Goddard 1). For the purpose of this paper, I plan to delve deeper into the use, function, and meaning
of lah in Malaysian conversations. In The English of Singapore and Malaysia, Tongue equates
meaning with function in his discussion of lah (114 115). He proposes, The range of meanings it
possesses is prodigious; depending upon the way it is pronounced, it can function as an intensifying
particle, as a marker of informal style, as a signal of intimacy, for persuading, deriding, wheedling,
rejection and a host of other purposes. (114 115) I hope to demonstrate the complexity behind the use
of lah by showing that a Malaysian s ethnicity, region that they are from, and mother tongue spoken,

My Favorite Mistake It was my seventh grade year and basketball tryouts were crawling nearer and

The Importance Of Social Identity Theory
Humans are predominantly social creatures. We form friend groups and families. We join social
networks and professional networks. We group into religions, nationalities, and political parties. In
extreme cases, we even abuse others (Zimbardo, 1973) and conform to false conclusions (Asch, 1952)
in order to maintain group membership. In other words, our group memberships influence our
behavior every day even in ways that we do not perceive consciously (Baumeister Leary, 1995; Haidt,
2003). Social Identity Theory and Self Categorization Theory Political behavior always involves
social groups, whether these take the form of concrete networks and gatherings of individuals such as
pressure groups, demonstrations, governments, cadres or committees, or whether they are constituted
as large scale institutions or imagined communities (Anderson, 1991) such as political parties during
the 2016 presidential complain. When social groups are central to politics, then the psychology of the
groups should be relevant to our understanding of political psychology. Social Identity Theory and
Self Categorization Theory does represent a major theoretical attempts to clarify the social
psychological processes associated with group membership and action. This should lead to a good
position with the group as well as contributions and understanding...thus people conform to their
group. Social Identity Theory (SIT) developed from Tajfel s work on intergroup processes which

Internal Investigation: Exploration Juan Garcia 11/17/15 Period 2 Problem/Question What is the effect
of varying pH solutions on the rate of photosynthesis on the Indian Lotus (Nelumbo nucifera) via The
Floating Leaf Disc Assay? Background The Indian Lotus is an aquatic plant that is quite popular
among cultures as being sacred. It is often used to portray beauty as it grows from the mud unstained
and pure. It is also used today in many Asian foods. As such the growth of the Indian Lotus is one that
is very important to many cultures and societies. Knowledge of the optimum pH in which the Indian
Lotus grows can be significant due to how the pH of the environment the Indian Lotus grows in can
vary based upon pollution and other factors. Therefore in the event of high pollution, or any situation
that changes the pH of the environment botanists may be able to predict or decipher the effect of that
change on the growth of the plants in the area, specifically the Indian Lotus. The experiment can also
conclude the extent that pH affects Indian Lotus growth. It may conclude that varying pH has a slight
effect on Indian Lotus growth or even the ability to stop it from undergoing photosynthesis completely
and kill the organism. The experiment is important in general to find how pH can affect Indian Lotus
growth which can in turn affect other aspects such as the diet of locals or lead to even a decrease in
Indian Lotus which is culturally significant to cultures and religions.

The Birth Order Effect On Personality
The Birth Order Effect on Personality:
Is there a Cause or no Cause?
Roxan Rivas
Introduction
Throughout the years, researchers have come to believe that birth order is an important factor in our
lives, almost as important as gender or even genetics. This ties back to the old Nature vs Nurture
theory, where it is not only our biology that defines who we are and what we do, it is a mixture of both
our environment and our genes that help us develop as a whole. Whether you are an only child, a first
born, last born, or somewhere in between, some researchers have found that this is important in
defining your character, your values, goal orientation, and life successes. Psychology has gone
through periods of accepting these ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The GSS allows comparison between first born(FB) and later born(LB) from different families.
Overall, these two articles put into perspective the validity of birth order but also the general
development of personalities and achievement goals within children. These two perspectives are
helpful in depicting some uprising issues with both theories and will give us a holistic view on the
topic.
The first article communicates that birth order has an effect on personality and achievement. One of
the things that these researchers noticed is that there are many differences between family designs
such as social class, parental personality, and sibling size. However, they do not attempt to control this
as much because they feel it takes away from the natural control of the study. Their predictions were
that first born (FBs) would be more conscientious and achieving while later born (LBs) would be
perceived as more liberal, agreeable, and rebellious. They collected 4 within family data sets by asking
respondents to compare themselves to their siblings on various personality and achievement
dimensions. In study one, students from the University of California, Berkeley were asked to nominate
the rebel and the achiever in their families. Study 2 also had the same

Ancient Indian Civilization
ANCIENT INDIAN CIVILIZATION
INTRODUCTION
In the 1920s, a huge discovery in South Asia proved that Egypt and Mesopotamia were not the only
early civilizations. In the vast Indus River plains (located in what is today Pakistan and western India),
under layers of land and mounds of dirt, archaeologists discovered the remains of a 4,600 year old
city. A thriving, urban civilization had existed at the same time as Egyptian and Mesopotamian states
in an area twice each of their sizes. The Indian civilization is one of the most ancient civilizations of
the world. It is known as the Sindhu civilization or the Indus Valley civilization or the Aryan
civilization. Sometimes it is also referred to as the Vedic civilization.

CLIMATE
Climate was an ingredient in early Indian civilizations for several reasons. Monsoons, winds that mark
the seasons, are one of the most immediate. The first monsoon of the season blows from North to
Northeast periodically during November through March. Little rain is present during this monsoon,
however what precipitation does fall, it falls on the Northern slope of the Himilayas. During mid June
through October a second monsoon indicates the Wet Season a.k.a. the southwest monsoon. Following
the southwest monsoon, heavy rains fall in its wake (however sparse rainfall falls on the Western
Ghats, the heaviest rainfull occours over the Ganges Valley and the Eastern Himilayan Mountains).
The timing of these winds is critical; too little or too late rainfall results in an unsuccessful harvest, yet
too much or an extended period of rainfall causes flooding along the country side. Temperatures also
play a significant role in how Indian s settled the land in anchient times. The ideal area the Deccan
plateau had mild temperatures in the summer opposed to the blistering heat of the Western Ghats and
valleys which could climb up to one hundred twenty degrees farenheit.
The annual rainfall in the Indus region varies between 5 and 20 inches (125 to 500 millimeters).
Except for the mountainous section of Pakistan, the Indus valley lies in the driest part of the
subcontinent. Northwestern winds

Comparison Of Final Love Note And Louise Gluck s Mock Orange
The Importance of Language in Clare Rossini s Final Love Note and Louise Gluck s Mock Orange
Love is such an abstract concept for the human mind to figure out. Along with the love of a mother for
her child, there are many types of sensual love or brotherly love; friendship is frequently described as
a type of love, as well. This abstraction can also be distorted and made to fit into categories that would
normally be associated with negativity and abuse not love. Think of why a woman will continually go
back to an abusive spouse with the irrational reason that he loves me. If he loved you, he wouldn t

The word wanton is the first of three words that she uses in this poem that dramatically affect the tone
of the poem. The Oxford English Dictionary defines wanton as being unruly, rebellious, and
unmanageable. This definition is followed by another that has a relatively different meaning which is
to describe someone or something that is dainty, fastidious, and playful. To place these definitions
inside the poem, the reader can come out with two separate meanings to these first lines. One could
take the first, which would mean that this relationship is peaceful and manageable. It is not out of
control. By the second definition, however, the relationship is also not dainty, fastidious, or playful.
To apply these definitions to the surface meaning of the poem makes sense, because a tree could not
be playful or out of control. However, if a reader were to apply it to an intimate relationship, the
relationship seems to have lost its luster. Perhaps, the participants are no longer as exciting as they
once were. Rossini describes the tree s silence during the winter and continues with vivid imagery of
the slugs ate the yellow hearts/ Right out of my lilies, while you, elm, died on (lines 11 12). This line
gives an extremely emotional visualization of having your heart eaten out, figuratively, by someone
that you love.
Rossini s word choice in the next to last paragraph gives an even stronger impression that she is using

builders.
Reflection of Resiliency
Cultural structures, values can positively or negatively impact an individual s resilience. Research
supports that culture, ethnicity, and environment are major factors in the manifestation of resilience in
individuals and communities of color (Chang, Scott, Decker, 2009, p. 26).As practitioners we must

The organization I work for is experiencing a tremendous and stressful transformation. It requires that
we utilize some of the resiliency builders including perceptiveness, being aware of exactly what is
happening, maintaining a sense of humor ( a recent physical move of an entire organization into
another work site has us labeling water fountains BHSI only and CBH only ...really?).
One of the strengths of this organization is also one of its weaknesses. We have a set criteria for those
that want to access our services, however during the recent economic crash we relaxed our rules as we
were perceptive enough to realize that if we didn t there would be a whole community of individuals
that we would not serve. Encouraging flexibility in the workplace can be challenging as individuals
must be able to discern.
Resilience is the cornerstone of the Strength Based perspective. This tool can be used to re enforce
resiliency in the individuals we serve and is a excellent self assessment tool. I manage a group of para
professionals who provide telephonic support to individuals in recovery. I will share the assessment
tool with the group as a baseline tool for resiliency. This quiz can provide conversation that
encourages openness and enlightenment. I believe it will be immensely helpful. Times are tough, high
unemployment, decreased resources within our communities; international unrest are just some of the
stressors that challenge our resiliency. Positive reinforcement is not only welcome, it is necessary

Fool In To Build A Fire
In the story To Build a Fire the protagonist proves to be a fool because he only brings one sandwich,
he does not listen to the old man from Sulphur Creek, and he is also unmindful. The man from To
Build a Fire made a foolish mistake of bringing a little bit of food for his journey. He decided to go on
a journey in a new and very cold area and brought only one sandwich for him to eat. He has to keep
the sandwich wrapped in a handkerchief and right against his body so it does not freeze. As he thought
of lunch, he pressed his hand against the package under his jacket. It was also under his shirt, wrapped
in a handkerchief, and lying for warmth against the naked skin. Otherwise, the bread would freeze. He
smiled contentedly to himself as he thought of those pieces of bread, each of which enclosed a
generous portion of cooked meat (London 66). This shows how he is not prepared for what may
happen and that he only brought one sandwich that could freeze unless it is against his body. Bringing
one sandwich is not the man s only mistake for his journey. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The man had a conversation about his journey to the old man and the old man shared some wise
advice. He did not listen to this advice which led him to making many foolish decision. Also because
he did not listen to the old man in the first place, he started to regret it near the end of the story. The
old man on Sulphur Creek was right, he thought in the moment of controlled despair that followed.
After 50 below zero, a man should travel with a companion (London 75). This is when he realized he
made the foolish mistake of going on his journey alone, defying what the old man had advised him.
The man had also many other mistakes throughout his

Where To Look For Roof Damage As a homeowner, you may have heard about the importance of
doing your own roof inspection. Unfortunately, it can leave you wondering what you should even be
looking for when doing the inspection on your own. Here are two key areas to check out on your roof
to discover damage to your roof early on. Flashing Your roof will have metal pieces of it known as
flashing. It is installed around things that come out of your roof, such as a ventilation pipe, chimney,

metal to become rusted, missing, or peel back from the structure it is protecting. Leaving damaged
flashing on your roof can lead to water getting underneath

From Chernobyl to Fukushima Essay
It s a clear, cool, spring Friday afternoon. All were going about their quotidian business, in offices, on
trains, in rice fields, in stores, in schools, in warehouses, in shrines then, the ground began to shake.
Located at Pacific fault lines, Japanese are accustomed to these shudder and shakes but something was
different on March 11th. Moments later a low rumble from the east came, the Pacific Ocean. People
began to see a ragged white line in the horizon, within minutes a monstrous wall of waves came
sweeping in, clawing across the land destroying everything in its path. If that wasn t enough, a nuclear
accident arose after a power plant was struck. Nightmares within two minutes turned into reality. Only
debris remained where homes, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
So, when a tsunami comes inland at the speed of a jetliner there is no chance, it will catch you, it will
drown you, and its forces will pulverize you. Even worse than geography and topography is geological
history. Japan alone has had more than a dozen earthquakes in the past three and half years (Allen). In
February there was a destructive earthquake in New Zealand, and an even more violent one in Chile
almost a year before. All three earthquakes involved the same Pacific fault lines and plated
boundaries. (Winchester) What does this mean for the future of Japan?
Albert Einstein quoted, the release of atomic energy has not created a new problem. It has merely
made more urgent the necessity of solving an existing one. (Famous) The human species foolishly has
made the decision to use nuclear power, first used sixty six years ago, also in Japan, when the United
States dropped the atomic bomb on Hiroshima. The power of nuclear energy is beyond our control
therefore should not be used. The art of nuclear power is to boil water with the incredible heat
generated by a nuclear chain reaction. But such temperatures necessitate continuous cooling. Cooling
requires pumps. Pumps require conventional power. These are things regularly go wrong and have
done so in Japan. The problem isn t that another backup generator is needed or that safety rules aren t
tight enough. It is that imperfect creatures like ourselves are unfit to use the stellar fire released from a

Diane Arbus Analysis
The exhibition Diane Arbus: in the beginning at The Metropolitan Museum of Art is made up of
photographs that focus on the first seven years of her career from 1956 to 1962. I really enjoyed her
use of light and shadow because in every photograph whether it was a pedestrian, child, couple or
circus performer I felt like the photograph was trying to look into that person s soul. The captivating
element of photography is that I m not sure if we re seeing that person as they are but as she wanted us
to see them. Every caption just states what s happening in each photograph which is intriguing
because this labeling gives nothing away about the particular pose or lighting in the photograph. Even
though the photographs are in black and white, they

The New Republic
As if the new republic did not have enough problems, they also had to deal with the fact that there was
a general dislike felt for the new regime by most of the population from both the left and the right
sides. This all went back to the fact that it was these politicians who signed the Treaty of Versailles.
The people found it difficult to accept that the war had been lost. From the home front, it was not
obvious that the war had been lost, and so it was difficult to understand why the politicians had agreed
to the Peace Talks in Versailles. The troops were upset with the political leaders and saw them as
weak. They believed that they gave in to internationally pressure and that the politicians had lost the
war, not the soldiers. As a result, there was a general distrust in the new government. During the
Weimar Republic the stab in the back idea became popular amongst the right wing. Under this mind
set, the politicians who signed the treaty were seen as the traitors, and as guilty of stabbing the troops
in the back. This legend is depicted below in this cartoon which illustrates Philipp Scheidemann and
Matthias Erzberger literally stabbing the German army in the back with the signing at Versailles.
What many Germans did not understand, was that the war truly was lost, and that meant that Germany
did not have much choice in the matter. They needed to sign the Treaty of Versailles, or they would
need to deal with the consequences. While the Germans originally held firm

Innovations of Employee Benefits Essays
The succeeding paragraphs will explain how innovations in employee benefits can improve the overall
competitive compensation strategy of the organization. In order to maintain their competitive edge,
companies need to fully understand that as the needs of their employee s change, so does their benefit
plans. Companies need to find innovative ways of engaging employees that encourage and support
their commitment and improve their performance.
The first way is by helping the company to attract and retain talent. A company is only as good as its
workforce so having an innovative benefit plan will help to attract high potential candidates and also
retain them within the organization. McKeown, J. (2002) states that, Effective retention begins ...

The third way is to help the company to increase productivity. Employees can tend to lose focus on
their work when they are having issues with their personal life. An innovative benefit plan can afford
employees with the flexibility to handle these issues in order to give the employees more availability
to concentrate on their work. This also causes employees to believe that their company cares for their
overall wellbeing, creating loyalty amongst the employees which will in addition increases overall
productivity, but retention as well.
The fourth way is to help the company increase employee commitment and engagement. In addition to
increasing productivity, companies want to ensure that their employees are committed and engaged to
the organization. This will produce employees that put more effort and take pride even in the smallest
of tasks, employees that are constantly thinking of ways to better improve their productivity, and
employees that motivate and inspire other employees that may have a negative attitude about the
organization.
The fifth way is to help the company to reduce health care costs. The lack of control and employee has
over their own job has been believed to lead to serious health conditions. Employers are coming to the
realization that in order to get a handle on health care issues, they need to take a more active

Providing Support to Transgender Students On Campus Essay
As support for the LGBT population arises across the United States, colleges and universities have
responded by creating positive spaces and environments for students. However, in some cases, not all
populations are served adequately. A population specifically, transgender students, sometimes do not
receive the same support gay, lesbian and bisexual students receive. An issue facing LGBT Services at
DePauw University is providing adequate services to transgender students. Providing educational
programming, gender neutral restrooms, faculty education, and counseling for transgender students
could increase support for students who identify as transgender.

Disapproval by others. Krista, a male to female student is consistently met with her parents reinforcing
her birth gender (Pusch, 2005). In addition, on campus, Krista is enrolled as a male and resides on a
male floor in a residence hall. Her daily life on campus is disconcerting and faces constant alienation
(Pusch, 2005). Mary, an age 21 female also has the same feelings as Krista. However, Mary, who is
pre transitioning, attends community college, and lives at home with her parents after leaving a
university for academic reasons. In her home, she faces denial by her parents and does not live as her
self identified gender (Pusch, 2005). The disapproval and alienation Krista and Mary are faced with

Supported by others. When a transgender person comes out having support is key in gaining self
confidence. Oberan, a participant in the study, discussed how he always felt the most supported when
people would forget he was trans (Pusch, 2005). Since Oberan is treated as a male and not
transgendered he feels the most support from his peers and family (Pusch, 2005). Oberan also

College Cost Analysis
Do you know how much college costs? In the academic year 2005 2006 to go to a 4 year public school
it was 5,492 per year. Now in the academic year 2015 2016 the cost has risen to 9,410 per year
(Dickler). The price has nearly doubled. College never used to cost that much but then it started to
become more popular and the cost of it has started to go up. This trend is going to continue. The cost
of college is rising and it is becoming more popular.
As the cost of college continues to rise it was not always like that. In the 1870s the cost of college was
$150. Today that equals $2,685.64 (Writers). College started to become more popular when people
were able to make more money per hour if you attended college. The first college opened in 1636 that
was Harvard University. The acceptance rate was 6% (Niche). Many students were not able to get into
college. More colleges began to open and so more students were accepted. Then, everyone started to
go to college so people felt expected to go. In 2008, tuition fees increased 439% since 1982, while
income has only gone up 147% (Writers). People are then not able to afford it since income is not
increasing as fast as college. In an article written by Jessica Dickler it is reported that 57% of
graduates said that they regret taking out as many loans as they did, and 36% said ... Show more

In an article written by Danielle Gabriel she says Net prices continue to grow because sticker price
increases have surpassed the grant aid that students receive. This does compare to the survey results
because a majority of the students surveyed said that the cost of the college will rise. While
researching it was found that a majority of high school graduates were going to college. That was the
same result in the survey. The outcome of the survey and the research were very similar. These results
support that the cost of college is rising and it is becoming more

The Endocrine System Is Made Up Of Cells And Glands That
The endocrine system is made up of cells and glands that make hormones and release them into the
blood. These hormones help to regulate reproduction, sleep, metabolism, cell growth, and
development. The word endocrine is a derivative from two Greek words: endo , which means within
or inside, and krinis , which is a verb for secrete. In the endocrine system, there are different glands
that each excrete different hormones. All of these glands are ductless, and secrete their hormones
straight into the blood stream. Some of these glands are the pineal gland, the thyroid and parathyroid
glands, the pancreas, and the thymus. These glands are located in various parts of the body. This

The pituitary gland is also known as the master gland, as its hormones control other glands. It
produces growth hormone, which helps the body grow its tissue and bone, and also helps with taking
care of the body s nutrients, prolactin, which is a milk producing hormone in females, thyrotropin,
which sends signals to the thyroid to produce hormones, and corticotropin, which also sends signals to
produce hormones, but to the adrenal gland. The hypothalamus produces anti diuretic hormone, which
raises up the water absorption in the blood in the kidneys, oxytocin, which aids in the contraction of
uterine smooth muscles and contraction of mammary gland cells, or lactation. The pineal gland
produces one hormone, called melatonin. This hormone is dedicated to sense light. The islet cells in
the pancreas are shared by both the digestive system and endocrine system. The pancreas produces
insulin, which helps the body to use and absorb glucose, and glucagon, which help the other hormone,
insulin, to keep a normal blood glucose level. The kidneys are both included in the urinary system and
the endocrine system. On top of the kidneys are the adrenal glands, which produce the hormones
hydrocortisone and corticosterone. Hydrocortisone keeps track of how the fats, carbohydrates, and
protein turn into energy for the body. Corticosterone works with the other hormone, hydrocortisone to
maintain immune system responses. The reproductive system and

  • 2. Summary Of Language By Angela Carter Language is the most complex form of communication. Throughout time, language has lost some of its meaning, it is no longer all about the conversation. Language has become such a powerful instrument used for building relationships between people and even places. Angela Carter, explains her ideas on the topic. She recognizes language as something with substance behind it, not just talking for the purpose of vocalizing. The weight you put behind what you say gives it the meaning. Carter proposes that language is the tool that holds all power that gets exerted when speaking. She believes language gives the people everything they need to exist individually and with one another. The history of a language ties in with the culture, the roots of certain words are what make the civilization what it is today. Carter further points out that language influences control and release, the act of domination and liberation. Everything considered, what Carter reveals about language is eye opening. She invites a new perspective on the idea that language is power. Carter leaves this open to interpretation, but we see how language is powerful enough to emotionally hurt people. Using it as an instrument of culture, we are able to open our eyes on the stagnation of progress in making the society we live in today to be as equal it can be. Carter is clear in helping us recognize language is used to both create and destroy but fails to include the various forms of language besides speaking vocally. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. New Imperialism Analysis The New Imperialism was centered on nationalism, social Darwinism, and economic expansion. The colonizers of the time were focused on only improving the state of their own countries and never even paid attention to what the indigenous peoples were forced to do. All they wanted was influence and power. On the other hand, the colonized had no control over the situation. They had no power to fight back against the countries taking them over, and they were forced to change their way of life to the ways of the white man. Rhodes was a perfect example of one of those colonizers, he believed that the English were the most superior race and that the world would be better if the English took over. Lessons Learned from A Very Old Man With Enormous Wings A Very Old Man With Enormous Wings is a short fiction story written by Gabriel Garcia Marquez in 1955. Magical realism plays a major part in this story by the use of fantasy of an old man being portrayed as an angel who has come to create miracles to a family along with many other believers. Some will believe, others will just shoo this so called angel away in a painful and heart breaking way. I enjoyed this story very much. I was able to get very interested. Marquez starts it out with On the third day of rain. That line right there is magical because angels are of God, and on the third day God s son rose from the grave. It was the third day that Pelayo came upon ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Just like in this story, many people were throwing leftover foods to him, coming to him just for a miracle, then having nothing more to do with him. They had only used him and did not see him for who he really was. What would seem to be humiliating to me and was to the angel, I assume, was that a priest, Father Gonzaga, sent away to Rome for a judgment on what they should do. A human with wings was foreign to these people. Some did not believe because an angel is appeared to be beautiful. This old man was just your average Joe with wings to many people. However, some had paid money to see this supernatural creature. What was magical at this point was when Marquez talks about the woman who disobeyed her parents and was changed into a spider. How magical can this be? A woman, who is a spider the size of a ram! The angel and this woman were the main attractions of the town. The realistic element here is obvious. For instance, in the town of Ironton, when someone goes to use the bathroom everyone knows about it. Similarly, it did not take long for this town to hear the news. Anyway, the woman spider ended up getting more attention because her story was of the truth to the town and the angel was only of mocking fun. Anyhow, people had paid so much money that Pelayo and his family became rich. They built a mansion. Their child played with the angel. The angel and their son both came down with the chicken pox at the same time. An angel ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

They say that change is the only constant service members can count on in the military. It s human nature to resist change, especially if the reason for it doesn t go over well with the population. This is where the non commissioned officer (NCO) corps must step in to ease tensions in the unit, while providing a positive outlook on the situation. Having dispositional flexibility creates a better understanding of how to manage the changes on the horizon. The absence of dispositional flexibility is when people only see the bad side of a given situation. An event that comes to mind that caused many of my co workers to turn off their dispositional flexibility was the repeal of the don t ask, don t tell policy in 2011. The working environment will be polished up and make the work more efficient, meanwhile, will not change the basic operating structure. We can utilize third party to manage the warehouse and reach our goal as well. Finally, we can build a new warehouse near the O Hare Airport where has ample of land so that we can construct a warehouse fully meets our requirements. For our long term benefits, I strongly suggest to build a new warehouse near the airport. Renovation is a short term solution and just keeps our business work normally and I cannot believe how long that old fashion building would maintain. The core problems are the weak floor and the low ceilings which cannot be restructured. Those will constrain heavy equipment to move in. The work needs to be done by hand which means slow and more workers. On another hand, if we rent a warehouse rather than own by ourselves, we will lose the control of the warehouse even though it solves our problems. Furthermore, in both the film and the play, the viewer is called to become aware of the distortions that dreams can bring to the format that the story is being narrated. Future mobile applications demand novel wireless communication technologies due to new challenges as sociated with the shortage of spectrums, low power radio architectures, and communication security. For example, though mmWave can fulfill some of the spectrum demands, it can still struggle to meet the growing demands for higher data connectivity over a myriad of devices, e.g., Internet of Things (IoT) []. When a longer range is demanded, the power consumption of the UWB transceiver increases dramatically. Since RF trans mission follows the inverse square law that the power density is proportional to the inverse square of the distance. In practice, when considering obstacles, multipath and fading, which is a big problem of impulse radio, the scenario can be even worse. In other words, increasing RF transmission distance will cost lots of power of RF devices, and shorten their battery lifetime. This power bandwidth trade off of UWB can be alleviated by taking advantage of optical wireless communications, which offers huge unlicensed bandwidth, high spatial re use capability, and low co channel interference. Therefore, by creating a UWB/Optical relay, the communication range of a UWB terminal can be extended without interfering other communications. On the other hand, optical communication has a shortcoming of directivity, so handling mobility is more challenging in optical systems than RF systems. This weakness can be overcome by using UWB as radio terminals since impulse radio has less directional constraints. Comparative Analysis of Cultural Ideologies in Norway and the United States The intent of this paper is to examine individualistic and communitarian cultural ideologies within two distinctly different political environments. The first challenge in comparing two nations is deciding which approach is most appropriate. There are several approaches in political science that have proven most beneficial when making comparisons. This study will use a comparative government approach to examine the political institutions, processes, constitutions, and functions of government within each of the two countries selected. The countries that have been chosen for this study are United States and Norway, respectively. Gregory Scott believes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The problem is that our individual actions, each perfectly consistent with our individual preferences, can and often do combine to produce collective outcomes that none of us would have chosen (Bickers, 11). And thus lead to the need for protection against those outcomes, administered through a democratic government. There are several authors that are noted for their dynamic research on the communitarian movement. The spokesperson for the contemporary communitarian movement is Amitai Etzioni. He explains that communitarians believe that the fundamental and central political problem is finding the right amount of togetherness and common concern. He continues, if people are to individualistic, they fail to support each other s efforts and to respect each other s needs. If people are too unified, they become authoritarian and attempt to use the state to impose a common set of beliefs and practices. Like ancient philosophers, communitarians find the lack of unified purpose and direction in society to be a crucial problem. Those who speak of the joys of not associating with others, but of being left alone by them, are most closely associated with individualism. And their noteworthy spokesperson is author and abolitionist Henry David Thoreau. This early author, observing the pressures, expectations, and demands made upon us by the societies in which we live, concluded that the mass of men lead lives of quiet desperation (Scott, 51). • 17. The Notion Of Jesus s Identity In The New Testament In the New Testament Jesus s identity as the Jewish messiah who is fully man and fully God is revealed. This notion of the God man identity is logically supported by the argument called the Trilemma. The concept of Salvation History signifies that Jesus is the fulfillment of the New Testament promises and more importantly covenants. Subsequently, typology is the interpretation of the Old Testament in the light of the New Testament with accordance with Jesus s identity as the God man. For example, God revealed more knowledge to us through the stages of revelation. In these stages God used words and deed to give us a fuller revelation. In the preparation stage God essentially prepared for the coming of Jesus. This foreshadowing of Jesus took place in many parts of the Old Testament. The Trilemma according to the church simplifies the possibilities of who Jesus could have been. This states that Jesus has reasonable belief to be considered a God man because he claimed to be divine. This is seen to be evident in the quote Amen, amen I say to you, before Abraham ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This argument states that the church over exaggerated Jesus s whole life and ministry. Additionally, that all of Jesus s followers and apostles were lying about Jesus conquering the grave and his miracles. This theory is rejected by the fact that the apostles had nothing to gain but everything to lose. The notion of the apostles being crucified, exiled, and imprisoned for a lie makes little or no sense. The other possible counter argument say s that Jesus said all humans have a divine nature and that he never intended himself to be out of the ordinary. Unfortunately, like the other counter argument this notion is easily diminished because Jesus was an Israelite not a Hindu. • 18. Models For Diffusion Of Innovations Among Potential Adopters Models for diffusion of innovations among potential adopters have been recently used to study the life cycle of new products and to forecast first purchase sales. Those models are useful for managers as decision aids to create and perform strategies to maintain the profitability of new products across their life cycle. Bass (1969) pioneered this area of research with a model for diffusions of new products under peer pressure via word of mouth. This model distinguished two parameters: innovation and imitation. Later, Chatterjee and Eliashberg (1990) provided a microeconomic version of Bass s model that included interactions among potential adopters and the formation of beliefs. In Chatterjee and Eliashberg s model, potential adopters were risk averse and used the price and their perceptions about the innovation s performance as inputs for utility functions. Thus, with Bayesian methods, potential adopters updated parameters with information from past adopters. Our model also focuses on informational influence on adoption of new products. However, we modified Chatterjee and Eliashberg s model of beliefs formation and individual choice by taking into account the possibility that influences take place only among consumers who are connected in a social network. The objective of this article is twofold. First, we seek to determine how global parameters of the social network, such as average path length and clustering, affect diffusion processes. • 19. Rhetorical Analysis Of Gatorade s The Secret To Victory Gatorade s most recent commercial, The Secret to Victory, focuses on defeat to help make their advertisement effective. The commercial starts out with Michael Jordan, a star basketball player, who asks, You want to know the secret to victory? This bold question grabs the attention of the audience. The commercial continues with many star athletes, present and past, that state a time where they failed in their respective careers. Later on, NFL quarterback Matt Ryan, answers Jordan s proposed question with defeat, after a scene of him losing in the Super Bowl. In this essay, I will argue that Gatorade s The Secret to Victory commercial is very effective by using rhetorical components and focusing on defeat. The target audience for Gatorade is for athletes, but this commercial does a great job of reaching out to a wide range of athletes. The advertisement targets athletes of the older generation, along with athletes that are young. Gatorade uses two retired players, Peyton Manning and Michael Jordan, along with two players nearing the end of their careers, Eli Manning and Serena Williams, and three players that are currently in their prime, Kyle Schwarber, Matt Ryan, and Karl Anthony Towns. The different ages in the commercial are extremely effective because athletes that would be interested in Gatorade s products vary in age, and Gatorade had to appeal to all generations of athletes. • 24. The Six Major Barriers In Business Communication Six Major Barriers in Communication In Chapter 2 of our textbook, Business Communication For Success by McLean (2010), six major barriers to effective business communications exist. These are cliché, jargon, slang, sexist and racist language, euphemisms, and doublespeak. Each of these barriers can harm relationships, cause misunderstandings, delay work, and cause unnecessary drama in the work place and in everyday life (Washburn, 2008). This is why discussing them and learning from previous mistakes will help you identify when you are using them and hopefully help prevent their use in the future. These major barriers can be very detrimental when used during communication. The Six Barriers The six major barriers to effective business communication lead to misunderstanding and often times conflict. Being able to identify them allows you to combat the misunderstanding by seeking to overcome the barrier. This could also prevent conflicts from arising and keeping communication lines open and trustworthy by avoiding the use of the six obstacles (McLean, 2010). To avoid these obstacles, it helps to know what each one means and having examples to reference. I hope these examples can be used to learn from and not be held against my character as I regret my part in using these barriers in the past. Internal Investigation: Exploration Juan Garcia 11/17/15 Period 2 Problem/Question What is the effect of varying pH solutions on the rate of photosynthesis on the Indian Lotus (Nelumbo nucifera) via The Floating Leaf Disc Assay? Background The Indian Lotus is an aquatic plant that is quite popular among cultures as being sacred. It is often used to portray beauty as it grows from the mud unstained and pure. It is also used today in many Asian foods. As such the growth of the Indian Lotus is one that is very important to many cultures and societies. Knowledge of the optimum pH in which the Indian Lotus grows can be significant due to how the pH of the environment the Indian Lotus grows in can vary based upon pollution and other factors. Therefore in the event of high pollution, or any situation that changes the pH of the environment botanists may be able to predict or decipher the effect of that change on the growth of the plants in the area, specifically the Indian Lotus. The experiment can also conclude the extent that pH affects Indian Lotus growth. It may conclude that varying pH has a slight effect on Indian Lotus growth or even the ability to stop it from undergoing photosynthesis completely and kill the organism. The experiment is important in general to find how pH can affect Indian Lotus growth which can in turn affect other aspects such as the diet of locals or lead to even a decrease in Indian Lotus which is culturally significant to cultures and religions. ... • 38. Ancient Indian Civilization ANCIENT INDIAN CIVILIZATION INTRODUCTION In the 1920s, a huge discovery in South Asia proved that Egypt and Mesopotamia were not the only early civilizations. In the vast Indus River plains (located in what is today Pakistan and western India), under layers of land and mounds of dirt, archaeologists discovered the remains of a 4,600 year old city. A thriving, urban civilization had existed at the same time as Egyptian and Mesopotamian states in an area twice each of their sizes. The Indian civilization is one of the most ancient civilizations of the world. It is known as the Sindhu civilization or the Indus Valley civilization or the Aryan civilization. Sometimes it is also referred to as the Vedic civilization. The Aryans ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... CLIMATE Climate was an ingredient in early Indian civilizations for several reasons. Monsoons, winds that mark the seasons, are one of the most immediate. The first monsoon of the season blows from North to Northeast periodically during November through March. Little rain is present during this monsoon, however what precipitation does fall, it falls on the Northern slope of the Himilayas. During mid June through October a second monsoon indicates the Wet Season a.k.a. the southwest monsoon. Following the southwest monsoon, heavy rains fall in its wake (however sparse rainfall falls on the Western Ghats, the heaviest rainfull occours over the Ganges Valley and the Eastern Himilayan Mountains). The timing of these winds is critical; too little or too late rainfall results in an unsuccessful harvest, yet too much or an extended period of rainfall causes flooding along the country side. Temperatures also play a significant role in how Indian s settled the land in anchient times. The ideal area the Deccan plateau had mild temperatures in the summer opposed to the blistering heat of the Western Ghats and valleys which could climb up to one hundred twenty degrees farenheit. The annual rainfall in the Indus region varies between 5 and 20 inches (125 to 500 millimeters). Except for the mountainous section of Pakistan, the Indus valley lies in the driest part of the subcontinent. Northwestern winds ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Comparison Of Final Love Note And Louise Gluck s Mock Orange The Importance of Language in Clare Rossini s Final Love Note and Louise Gluck s Mock Orange Love is such an abstract concept for the human mind to figure out. Along with the love of a mother for her child, there are many types of sensual love or brotherly love; friendship is frequently described as a type of love, as well. This abstraction can also be distorted and made to fit into categories that would normally be associated with negativity and abuse not love. The word wanton is the first of three words that she uses in this poem that dramatically affect the tone of the poem. The Oxford English Dictionary defines wanton as being unruly, rebellious, and unmanageable. This definition is followed by another that has a relatively different meaning which is to describe someone or something that is dainty, fastidious, and playful. To place these definitions inside the poem, the reader can come out with two separate meanings to these first lines. One could take the first, which would mean that this relationship is peaceful and manageable. It is not out of control. By the second definition, however, the relationship is also not dainty, fastidious, or playful. To apply these definitions to the surface meaning of the poem makes sense, because a tree could not be playful or out of control. However, if a reader were to apply it to an intimate relationship, the relationship seems to have lost its luster. Perhaps, the participants are no longer as exciting as they once were. Rossini describes the tree s silence during the winter and continues with vivid imagery of the slugs ate the yellow hearts/ Right out of my lilies, while you, elm, died on (lines 11 12). This line gives an extremely emotional visualization of having your heart eaten out, figuratively, by someone that you love. Rossini s word choice in the next to last paragraph gives an even stronger impression that she is using the tree as a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

One of the strengths of this organization is also one of its weaknesses. The man from To Build a Fire made a foolish mistake of bringing a little bit of food for his journey. He decided to go on a journey in a new and very cold area and brought only one sandwich for him to eat. He has to keep the sandwich wrapped in a handkerchief and right against his body so it does not freeze. As he thought of lunch, he pressed his hand against the package under his jacket. The New Republic As if the new republic did not have enough problems, they also had to deal with the fact that there was a general dislike felt for the new regime by most of the population from both the left and the right sides. This all went back to the fact that it was these politicians who signed the Treaty of Versailles. The people found it difficult to accept that the war had been lost. From the home front, it was not obvious that the war had been lost, and so it was difficult to understand why the politicians had agreed to the Peace Talks in Versailles. The troops were upset with the political leaders and saw them as weak. They believed that they gave in to internationally pressure and that the politicians had lost the war, not the soldiers. As a result, there was a general distrust in the new government. During the Weimar Republic the stab in the back idea became popular amongst the right wing. Under this mind set, the politicians who signed the treaty were seen as the traitors, and as guilty of stabbing the troops in the back. This legend is depicted below in this cartoon which illustrates Philipp Scheidemann and Matthias Erzberger literally stabbing the German army in the back with the signing at Versailles. What many Germans did not understand, was that the war truly was lost, and that meant that Germany did not have much choice in the matter. They needed to sign the Treaty of Versailles, or they would need to deal with the consequences. While the Germans originally held firm ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
