Kayaker Journey Lab
Problem
A kayaker travels two miles upstream and two miles downstream in a total of 5 hours. In still water, the kayaker travels at an average of two miles per hour.
The goal of this paper will be to determine the average speed of the river s current.
Variables
Let x represent the speed of the current of the river. Let t1 represent the time it takes to travel upstream. Let t2 represent the time it takes to travel downstream.
Let r1 represent the rate of the kayaker when moving upstream. Let r2 represent the rate of the kayaker when moving downstream. Let d1 represent the
distance of the journey upstream. Let d2 represent the distance of the journey downstream. f(x), will represent time. Variables without subscripts will have the

The asymptotes of the rational function are at 2 and 2. There are two points at which the functions intersect. The points are at, 1.54919333848296 and
1.549193338482967 from left to right respectively. These values represent the possible speeds of the current of the river when the time of travel is equal to five
hours. The negative solution is extraneous because in the context of this problem, a negative value of x does not make sense as a river current could not move

Pavlov s Classical Conditioning and Skinner s Operant Conditioning Learning is a relatively permanent change in behavior due to experience. There are two
types of learning, associative learning and cognitive learning. Associative learning occurs when a person or an animal forms a simple association among
various stimuli, behaviors, or both. It requires little to no awareness or thought. Cognitive learning refers to understanding, knowing, and anticipating. Our
subject today comes from associative learning. There are two types of associative learning. Ivan Pavlov of Russia, discovered classical conditioning, and
Edward Thorndike discovered operant conditioning. Classical conditioning is the type of associative learning based on what happens before we respond. It
begins with a stimulus that reliably triggers a behavior as a response. Classical conditioning occurs when you learn to associate two different stimuli. There is
no behavior involved. The first stimulus that you will encounter is the unconditioned stimulus. Unconditioned stimulus is a stimulus essentially capable of
producing a response without any previous learning. That learning is called an unconditioned response.
Pavlov conducted a study using dogs. He placed the dogs in a harness and placed a piece of food on their tongue. A tube was placed to carry saliva from the
dogs mouth to a lever measuring the saliva. Pavlov believed that salivation was an automatic, inherited reflex.

Women Holding The Lotus
Obsomer, ¨i.f prt xrw et la filiation ms(t).n/ir(t).n, 167 68, nn. 28 30. For examples of women holding/smelling the lotus from the Old Kingdom, see Fischer,
Egyptian Women, 6 (fig. 3), 36 (fig. 27: Dynasty 6), 40 (fig. 30: perhaps Dynasty 8), 42 (fig.

does not appear on dated stelae earlier than Sesostris I, when it is rather frequently met with, but only in connection with women. Later it seems to become
somewhat rarer. From the time of Amenemmes II onwards, men, too, are represented as smelling the lotus. Then he adds the motif of holding the lotus, only in
connection with women, is first found ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Twelfth Night Women
Women can easily fall in love as they are gullible and over trusting, whereas men are mindless and foolish. In Twelfth Night, the characters who prove this are
Olivia and Sir Andrew. Olivia has fallen in love with the fake man Cesario , and Sir Andrew is deliberately trying to woo Olivia through foolish and pathetic
ways. Twelfth Night demonstrates that women are weak and are able to fall in love easily, due to their gullibility when it comes to love. This was shown as
Olivia was able to fall in love with fake man Cesario , who was truly Viola in disguise. Although the Duke Orsino has real feelings for Olivia, she refuses to
love him back as her love is only for Cesario . Shakespeare conveys this message through Viola s soliloquy, and is

Observing Literacy In A Second-Grade Classroom
I had the opportunity to observe literacy in a Second Grade classroom at Ferguson K 8 School. The first time I walked into the room, right away I noticed a
small library in the corner. The library consists of picture, non fiction, and fiction books. There was a big, blue, comfy carpet surrounding the library section
for the students to read on. The day would start off with the students correcting two sentences silently then doing it together. An example would be mr white
came to are house to fix the freazer . The students would then raise their hands to fix the sentence. If the student was right, they would have to explain to the
class why they did it. As the day went on, I noted how much time they spend on reading and writing during ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By the end of the short story, majority of the students can re tell the short story fluently. The teacher would emphasize the words to make the story more
interesting and ask questions throughout. She did a very good job making connections with the students to help them engage in the lesson. The students
focused a lot on learning sequence of events, and the story map. The story map involves the title, author, main characters, setting and main points. About three
students in the classroom were only reading at kindergarten level and the other students were reading at either the grade level or higher than the grade level. I
took time to work with the students who could only read at kindergarten level. As I was working with them, I caught myself sounding the words out every time
and breaking it down for them. Doing that helped the struggling students more than I expected. Once they kept hearing me sounding the word out, they would
do the same and be able to figure out the words themselves. After reading then would go onto special and then come back and practice writing. The teacher
would integrate reading also in writing by splitting the students into their leveled groups and every 15 minutes, the students would cycle into

Essay on Main Street
Sinclair Lewis makes point of the efforts that Carol produces to reform her new home. These efforts can be perceived by the townspeople as unwelcomed and
unsuccessful. Some of Carol s ideas are ludicrous, out of proportion and not ready for the slow moving town. She tries several different approaches to
reforming the town from the moment of her arrival. She goes from architectural reform to poetic reform to artistic to introducing liberalism to amusing social
functions. All of these tactics she hopes will spring forth a reform movement to beautify and culturalize the town and people. Her initial attempts at bringing
the town out of its shell consisted of throwing fun and exciting parties. Such as her Chinese house warming party on page ... Show more content on

Assuming an in depth reading of selected poems and lively discussions will take up the time, she is startled by the biographical and historical information that
is shown off as great literary papers. Her idea of starting a dramatics association after a night of charades, becomes such in the weeks to follow. She
experiences the overwhelming control of small town politics and agreement with association that is exhibited in the play selection process. Her choice for the
leading lady is dictated by the longing for social acceptance and the simple art of sucking up. She ascertains that her vision of the perfect play has been tainted
by the unmotivated, unreliable and unscrupulous cast she has assembled. The consistent snide, off handed remarks and unannounced, unwanted suggestions
echo the toils of community theater groups across the present Midwest. Carol has wonderful aspirations and ideas to help awaken the sleepy town of Gopher
Prairie, but she is held back by the stiff, stubborn close mindedness of the small town. The obstacles she encounters are her own self criticisms. It is quite true
that the townswomen gossip about her to no end, but if she could stop and listen, they gossip about each other just as much. She does not comprehend that the
common means of conversation in the town are achieved through the criticizing of others. Carol will never attain her dream village if she does not learn how to

Stephen T. Asma s Book On Monsters
There is such kind of monsters, remain their appearance as a human, yet the things they do can only describe as monstrosities. They are not monsters in books
and literature, a fear of unknown or sexual desires. People were, or still are facing actual brutal violence or psychological terror from those monsters. More
importantly, the monster being talked here is one of our kind. They are human, yet described as inhuman , under the inhuman category of Stephen T. Asma s
book On Monsters, a bloody history, a dark past of humanity have been introduced as a monster. It is Khmer Rouge s infamous security prison S21: the
representation of the massacre took place in Cambodia in 20th century and this kind of monster, unfortunately, is still relevant to the world, even till this day.
In just three years of its power in control, Pol Pot and Khmer Rouge turned the country of Cambodia into a living hell. By 1976 approximately twenty five
hundred prisoners had passed through the bloody corridors of S21, and each year that followed saw increased numbers of tortured prisoners, until they totaled
around seventeen thousand by 1979, when the Vietnamese Army liberated Phnom Penh. (8 Asma) Most prisoners brought to S21 was innocent, they were
brought here only because the people in power believe they were enemies of the revolution or associated with western culture. Ironically, the torture chamber
used to be a school. People associate hope and bright future with school, especially with

The Way Poets Present Ideas of Death and Loss in Mid Term Break, On the Train, On My First Sonne and The Affliction of Margaret
Works Cited Missing
In the poems Mid Term Break by Seamus Heaney, On The Train by Gillian Clarke, On My First Sonne by Ben Jonson and The Affliction of Margaret by
William Wordsworth, all of the poets convey a loss or death, experienced by either the poet themselves, or other people too. In Mid Term Break , Seamus
Heaney experiences the loss of his younger brother (he is four years old: a four foot coffin, a foot for every year ). In On The Train , Gillian Clarke writes
about the Paddington rail crash, on 5th October 1999 in which 31 people were killed and over 500 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He is reminded that he is the eldest, and as such is now treated more as a man than a child. The effect of the death has a large effect on the family: In the porch
I met my father crying this is ironic, as his father had always taken funerals in his stride . The use of language adds to the effect of the poem: wearing a poppy
bruise on his left temple . Heaney uses the metaphor of a poppy marking the bruise on his head because poppies are used to commemorate and respect those
who have lost their lives in conflict, and generally signify death and remembrance. Heaney starts off using simple language, and the phrase: at ten o clock the
ambulance arrived with the corpse, stanched and bandaged by nurses suggests a detachment of Heaney, from the events, and helplessness as all that he can do
is watch. Simple language such as: corpse suggests an inability for Heaney to express his feelings, and is also the first confirmation that we have of a death.
The sentences and language used by Heaney soon change from simple structures to that of a complex structure, representing the discovery of his feelings
towards the tragedy: Snowdrops and candles soothed the bedside; I saw him the first time in six weeks this is an example of a complex sentence used by
Heaney and also shows how he is addressing his feelings.
On The Train was written by Gillian Clarke, about the tragedy that

Democratic Party Racism
Is the Democratic Party the Party of Racism? Most people of the Democratic Party fall into two different categories; either they are Democrats by design or by
deception. The Democratic Party s history reveals it has long ignored its racist leanings. Historically, the Democrats were the most avid supporters of slavery
while the founding of the Republican Party supported the abolition of slavery, and the entrenchment of civil liberties in the United States. For instance, the
13th amendment passed in 1864 that abolished slavery got massive support from the Republicans, in comparison to the Democrats, in Congress. Also, the
agitation by the Republicans for equality is envisaged in the election of the first seven black Americans during the Reconstruction ... Show more content on

Roosevelt, the failure by most Democrats, especially those in positions of authority, to appreciate racial equality in support of white supremacy demonstrates
their non reformist character and belief in racism. It reveals the lack of moral conscience amongst Democrats as they fail to visualize how their racist
ideologies erode the democratic gains Americans have fought for such as equality in representation and access to opportunities. Such insensitiveness is a sign
of failure by Democrats to appreciate the strides that the minorities such as the blacks had fought fervently over the years. It becomes apparent that most
Democrats in leadership positions knew that any support for civil liberties and other forms of equality would evoke resentment amongst their supporters. It is,
therefore, clear that most of the rights and freedoms being enjoyed in America today are due to non racist ideologies of

Essay about Civil War Weapons and Atrillery
The Weapons of the American Civil War
The Civil War, also called The War Between the States, was one of the bloodiest wars in American history. What made the Civil War such a massacre? The
Civil War was such a bloodbath because the technological advances were so far superior to the tactics of the infantry, that the weapons virtually obliterated the
soldiers. Soldiers would form lines known as a battalions. In these battalions, soldiers would basically march to their deaths. In addition to weapons doing so
much damage, fortification on the battlefield was far more advanced than had ever been before. The Cheveau de frise was the main focus of armored
fortification in the Civil War. This fortification consisted of 10 to 12 foot ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Colonel Mosby once remarked . . .the only real use for a sword was to hold a piece of meat over a fire for frying. 6 The Union army, unlike the Confederates,
had multiple companies that provided simple, yet devastating weapons. One of these weapons was the .52 caliber breech loading Billinghurst Requa battery; it
was produced only 50 times. This weapon consisted of 25 rifled barrels side by side that, when primed, were set off by a lanyard to inflict massive damage
over a small range of territory.7 The Union forces also produced many long range artillery weapons. Unlike the Confederates, who used Howitzers; the Union
Army used mortars. The short squat mortar, as it was called, was originally used by the Ottoman s in 1453. The mortars operated by the Union were primarily
used to hurl shells over walls or into large concentrations of enemy soldiers. In addition to lobbing bombs over walls, the mortars were also extremely effective
in dismantling naval forces. The mortars could be shot from miles inland, therefore Confederate naval forces never saw the bombs coming. The mortar
weighed 17,120 pounds and could fire a 220 pound bomb 4,325 yards. There were smaller versions of these mortars (the 300 lb Coehorn mortar with a 5.8
inch bore that hurled an 18 pound shell), but they saw very little activity on the battlefield.8 The Union forces also used another form

Herbalife Case
Herbalife is currently oversold but I predict, is poised for an increase in the upcoming quarters. Much of this information is speculation until we can perform a
basic comparative financial analysis of Herbalife and try to conclude based on the current stock price and financials whether the stock is overvalued, fairly
valued, or undervalued. I believe that Herbalife is undervalued and that the stock is worth much more than its current value. Herbalife continues to make
strides and the market had observed that it has experienced significant percentage changes in its revenue, EBITDA and earnings over the past five years.
Investors across the board are not huge fans of the MLM business model. According to Ackman s thesis, investors just want to completely avoid the stock due

indicates the worst case scenario for Herbalife.

Pros And Cons Of Fordism
Fordism a good idea or a bad one?
The purpose of this paper is to state that Fordism was not a stable production system, even though it achieved great success when it was first applied by Henry
Ford. The Fordism production method will be critically assessed on the segregation it built between workforce and management and how it established a
dominant American industry. The study will also define the concept of Fordism and how it influenced the motor vehicle industry, in which this production
model was first implemented.
By the beginning of the 20th century technology had become advanced enough to introduce the motor vehicle. Despite this, for many years the automobile
remained an expensive luxury item created by craftsmen. It was something only the wealthy could afford. That was until Henry Ford, a son of the Scientific
Movement of Management, developed a new line of thought. He wanted to make cars available to the masses by changing the production process in a way that
would reduce costs, so more people could afford the product. Ford introduced a new approach to production, which included standardization, specialization
and the usage of the assembly line and the conveyor belt system (Smith, 2011). His business model was so successful that it sparked a revolution in the entire
industry. Even today, a century later, the world is still greatly influenced by Fordism.
Authors variously interpret the term Fordism . According to Knights and Willmott (2007: 385) Fordism

Representation Of Love In Romeo And Juliet
Love is the profound theme in The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare. Shakespeare portrays love as a violent yet ecstatic, overpowering
force. The force of love persuades the thoughts and actions of the characters leading them to drastic measures. Romeo and Juliet show great devotion to one
another despite the trouble it causes. Over the course of the play, Shakespeare displays the forcefulness and intensity of love by the abandonment of friends
and family, feud, and death. Both Romeo and Juliet aren t afraid of the consequences of abandoning their loved ones. Romeo leaves his friends behind in order
to be with Juliet. In return, Juliet would give up her name, and put her family on the line, just to be with Romeo. Juliet expresses her thoughts aloud as she
says, O Romeo, Romeo! wherefore art thou Romeo? Deny thy father and refuse thy name! Or, if thou wilt not, be but sworn my love, and I ll no longer be a
Capulet (II.ii.33 36). Both lovers have been driven to defy their social lives and go against everything they have ever known. The same force pulling the lovers

Domination: it is also known as the pattern of interethnic relation in which one can inspire the ethnic community. Which is usually in control of the state
organization, except limit or otherwise subordinate members of the other ethnic communities. There are two major type of domination; exclusionary and
inclusionary.

Essay on Atheism, the Hidden Prejudice
Atheism, the Hidden Prejudice Prejudice has plagued our society since its conception. There have been great strides taken in educating people to the ignorance

It also states that no law should be made against religious establishments, practices, or beliefs. It is probably not a coincidence that this is the first amendment

those of non secular beliefs. Race, sexual preference, and religious beliefs are the most common forms of prejudice. As a society we have made great progress
against racial and sexual bigotry. What seems to be without thought, religious discriminations have been left by the wayside. From 1930 to 2007, polls
conducted by the Gallup Organization asked people if they would vote for the best qualified person for president who happened to be X . X represented
Atheist, Baptist, Catholic, Jewish, Mormon, Black, Hispanic, homosexual, married 3 times, and 72 years of age. Out of all the categories Atheist showed the
least amount of improvement. The 2007 results show that only 45% would have voted yes. That is only a 5% increase from 1978 and a 4% decrease from
1999. In 1978, homosexuals had the lowest at 26%, but in 2007 55% said they would vote yes for a homosexual candidate (Robinson). This study shows that
there have been vast improvements in all areas of discrimination except

Norman Bates: Two Lives Within A Soul
Sigmund Freud s Psychoanalytic Theory of Personality Development states that there is a structural model of the psyche, which splits the human identity into
three instances of Ego, Superego, and ID. In Psychoanalytic Stage of Development, there are five stages: Oral, Anal, Phallic, Latency, and Genital. Even
though Sigmund Freud never was writing about the movie _Psycho_, theories of Freud, have a great connection with the personality of Norman Bates.

As Norman grew up, he never had the chance to explore his sexual desires with other people.
Norman s behavior can be further analyzed by using Freud s theory of Infantile Sexuality. In his theory of Infantile Sexuality, Freud explains that a child has
sexual instincts. Sigmund Freud s theory describes the ideas and emotions which exist within the unconscious mind of children concerning their desire to
possess their mothers sexually and eliminate the threat of their fathers who they competed with for the attention of their mothers. Norman s problem is he is
stuck in the Phallic Stage. The Phallic Stage is the third stage of child development, occurring between the year of 3 and 6. Between this time, Norman must
have been abandoned by his mother. Her lover must have been envied by Norman because all he wants is his mother s love and attention. He felt that the other
man was a threat to the relationship Norman and his mother had. After feeling abandoned by his mother, Norman s Oedipus complex forced him to have a
fight with his mother s lover, which eventually made him to murder the two of them after finding them in bed together . For Freud, most repressed memories
relate to sexuality. However, the killings don t stop with the mother and her partner. Norman continues to kill women who come to the motel that he finds
attractive.

What Is The Theme Of A Worn Path

Jackson who preserves heroically in the difficult circumstances which mean she encounters many hardships on her way to find the medicine to cure his
grandson. She is not only and elder, but brittle and lonely as well. But for a good portion of the story, she never gives up in a journey into town because she is
on the mission to help one she loves. This action takes place in December, circa 1940, in southwestern Mississippi. The scene begins in the wilderness and then

Phoenix first encounter with the white hunter is a perfect example. The hunter dismisses her journey s importance by saying that he knows.....colored people

Furthermore, Phoenix Jackson must bear racial prejudice as part of her everyday life. Consider that the white hunter refers to her condescendingly as Granny.
The narrator does not reveal the race of the shopper, the attendant, and the nurse. However, they are likely white, for they also treat her condescendingly. The
shopper calls her Grandma, and the nurse calls her Aunt Phoenix. It is interesting to note, though, that the people she encounters do treat her with a modicum
of respect and kindness. A sign perhaps that America is making gradual progress in race relations. But not until the civil rights movement of the fifties, sixties,

Gender Is A Now A Large Topic For Modern Society
Gender is a now a huge topic for modern days. How can you classify a gender in modern society? The answer to this question cannot be answered in modern
society but in the past countries were the ones to label genders. Tell them who they are, what is there role, how you support the country in this role. Nazi
Germany told to raise and birth children . Soviet Union you will raise children and birth them but also be a soldier and fight when needed. You will be treated
as a man but with the duty of a woman . Women in Colonial Quito were legally obligated to practice obedience to their husbands. Women were dominated by
their husbands and faced abused. Because this was how society viewed a role of a women in their society . Also in Brazil a boy had to act like a man if he was
what they defined as a subversives they were acting feminine and that creates weakness for the nation as acting feminine allowed them to get pregnant by
communism . The gender inequalities and differences have been socially constructed and scientifically quantified by countries in order to protect the
civilization and control the population. Women in Nazi Germany and Soviet Union both had different social roles in what they considered service to their
country as they were socially constructed to maintain their civilization. In Nazi Germany the Nation was above all and society had to be shaped the way they
saw pure. Women had to give birth to this pure race and take care of the children. This was your role as

Case Study Of The Hero Brand Mary Biscuit
1.1 Introduction
This section explores case studies of the Hero Brand, Mary Biscuit and the Intelligent Lamp in order to understand how olfaction and visual aesthetics
contribute to product development. Emphasis is given to how consumers are influenced in terms of aesthetics and olfaction which serves as opportunities to
create new and innovative products that are likely to meet with significant customer interest for consumption.
1.2 The olfactory dynamic Hero Brand
The neurological dynamics of olfaction are involved in how a consumer learns and processes their emotional states. Scent can be linked with an unconditioned
stimulus, thereby producing a desirable emotional response, and eventually constructing a conditioned response over time (Rouby 2002). Marketers are
recognising this phenomenon and using it to their advantages. For instance, Verizon developed a new brand of mobile phone, the Verizon Chocolate, and
utilised an in store strategy to circulate the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Furthermore, the Mary Biscuit storage container elicits a nostalgic experience with consumers, a consumer s preference towards a particular object that
invokes positive sensations when associated with periods when the individual was younger or when a certain trend was fashionable (Holbrook and Schindler
1991). Distinctive packaging forms and colour combinations can invoke this strong sense of nostalgia, a significant consideration in Mary Biscuit product
development especially in a marketing environment where many consumer target segments have lifelong experiences with biscuits as a cultural and as a trans
generational product. Nostalgia is well known to be a significant influence on consumer intention to purchase a product (Rutherford and Shaw

Why did the governments of the interregnum fail to find an...
The governments of the interregnum failed to find an acceptable settlement predominantly due the power vacuum which was left by the King when he was
executed. This wasn t helped by the lack of legitimacy of the regicide where only 59 MP s signed Charles death warrant. However one could argue that Oliver
Cromwell, Parliament and The New Model Army s want and desire for more power also led to the failure to find an acceptable settlement.
After Charles was executed several political problems arose because there was no direction of settlement due to the degree and nature of the reform. As a result
of this, two sides formed, the army who were religious radicals and parliament, who were after a conservative settlement. The result of the ... Show more

For example, the military wanted a radical religious reform, led by John Lambert, whereas the civilians (or parliament) wanted a more moderate, parliament
endorsed regime, led by figures such as Lord Broghill. Therefore, Cromwell was a major source of division and was said to be an ideological schizophrenic
(Worden). Furthermore division was made worse by Oliver Cromwell (Worden) which is seen with the fluctuation of Cromwell s views between 1649 58,
beginning with the dissolution of the Rump Parliament, because he favoured the Nominated Assembly, devised by fifth monarchist Thomas Harrison, however
the Assembly was named the Barebones Parliament. Despite Cromwell initially siding with a Godly rule (Smith), he reverted back to the regime to protect
tradition, helped by Lambert who ended the Barebones Parliament due to the fear of the increasing power of religious radicals. Therefore, it was the indecisive
nature of Oliver Cromwell that led to the failure in attempting to create an acceptable settlement in politics and religion.
Religious radicalism was fundamentally linked politics. Following Civil War in 1642, religious radicalism evolved due to the collapse of censorship and the
Church of England which brought social upheaval across England, making it increasingly difficult for Cromwell to achieve an acceptable settlement. The less
influential groups amongst society were the Diggers and Fifth Monarchists who believed that

The Witch Craze Of The Sixteenth And Seventeenth Centuries
Gender, race, age, and ability have been used to shape the history and our understanding of human sexuality, as well as how certain groups, specifically
marginalized groups, were seen as degenerate or delinquent people. When examining why and how specific groups of people were though of as being sexual
delinquents, it is important to use an intersectional lens, and consider how these different categories and identities of gender, race, age, and ability work
together to form experiences and opinions. By marginalizing, controlling, and regulating the sexualities and bodies of those who were women, people of
colour, adolescents, or differentially abled, the social norm of a white, heterosexual, patriarchy has been enforced through history. Throughout the history of
humankind, women s bodies and sexuality have been critiqued, chastised, and judged by society. During the witch craze of the sixteenth and seventeenth
centuries, many women were accused of being evil beings. Over 60,000 women were wrongfully executed by their accusers . It was believed that woman who
were midwives, challenged male authority, or were sexually promiscuous and given themselves to Satin and were now evil and immoral beings. The more

for society, the idealized picture changes every minute and the pressure to meet this picture increases drastically.
Are all these people born so perfect? Or did they cheat with cosmetic surgery? Of course there are people who are so lucky they are born flawless. But the

Cosmetic surgery is also used to enhance the chance on a job. Because so many women undergo cosmetic surgery, the employment raises. We need more
surgeons and nurses to be able to meet the demand. And of course the right to do what you want with your body is a reason to go to the cosmetic surgeon. But
cosmetic surgery also knows a dark side. An operation is never without any risks. Cosmetic surgery can cause serious damage to your body. Besides, you lose
your own identity after using cosmetic surgery. Your own identifying mark is being removed and replaced by a more common identifying mark. Also the costs
of cosmetic surgery are very high. For most people it is too expensive, so they negotiate a loan. The high costs make cosmetic surgery a mean for rich people
to improve their appearance. And of course we need to wonder if cosmetic surgery is a good way to make you happy. It is much better to love yourself for who
you are, because only then also other people can love you for who you are. After all for everyone exists the perfect match. So stay who you are, do what you

Hence, China, Japan, and Russia have a greater percentage while Russia have a lower percentage than the ideal VALUE. To scale these number as a percentage
of the ideal we divided the value of each option by the ideal value as it shown below in figure 3.
Ideal Option Percentage
1.48 Japan 1.08 1.8/1.48= 1.22 2 (1.22) = 0.78
1.48 China 2.0 2.0/1.48= 1.35 2 (1.35) = 0.65
1.48 Russia 1.36 1.36/1.48= 0.92 2 (0.92) = 1.08
On the account that lower value indicates lower internet users, we converted the values by subtracting the quotient from 2. As a results, Japan achieved 78% of
the ideal, China achieved 65% of the ideal, and Russia achieved 1.08% of the ideal. figure 4 Same process can be applied to the objective limited number of

Living Conditions In The Progressive Era
The Progressive movement that began in the late 1800 s and early 1900 s was an attempt to bring about governmental reforms and to correct injustices in
American life. Tired of the poor working and living conditions, overcrowding of the cities, political corruption, and abuses by industrialists, people took it
upon themselves to try and create change. By using many forms of the media, combined with organized protests, people exposed these issues and informed
thousands of Americans of the conditions that existed. Living conditions were poor, food safety was strictly hazardous, and child labor played a big part in the

Food safety in the late 1800 s and early 1900 s was hazardous, filthy, and unsanitary. The food safety issue was not thoroughly recognized until Upton Sinclair

Chicago stockyards. Instead, it caused an outrage over the meat packaging. Within the first few weeks of his book getting published, Theodore Roosevelt
received many letters from the public regarding that the meat packing industry should be more closely watched and regulated. In Sinclair s book, he stated,
there would be meat that had tumbled out on the floor, in the dirt and sawdust, where the workers had tramped and spit... There would be meat stored in great
piles in rooms. This is showing that the meat was not properly taken care of and the workers simply did not bother in trying to make it sanitary. Another piece
of data that would support this would be, a man could run his hand over these piles of meat and sweep off handfuls of the dried dung of rats. and This was no

Pressure Ulcer Prevention Repositioning
Introduction
Pressure ulcers are one of the most common problems health care facilities often face which causes pain and discomfort for the patient, cost effective to
manage and impacts negatively on the hospital (Pieper, Langemo, Cuddigan, 2009; Padula et al., 2011). The development of pressure ulcers occur when there
is injury to the skin or tissue usually over bony prominences such as the coccyx, sacrum or heels from the increase of pressure and shear. This injury will
compromise blood flow and result in ischemia due to lack of oxygen being delivered (Gyawali et al., 2011). Patients such as those who are critically ill or bed

Most mobile patients are able to reposition themselves, while others who are critically ill are not able to feel or respond to pain. Therefore, nurses need to
assess those patients in repositioning to decrease the risk of developing pressure ulcers (REF).
Nurses need to realise what they are looking for when performing skin assessments for patients. A study conducted by Thoroddsen et al (2013), found that out
of 45 patients that had pressure ulcers only 27 were correctly recorded in the patient s records.
A study conducted over seven years by Amir et al (2011) showed a significant decline of pressure ulcer development after three years of the study. This was
partly due to strategies being implemented in regards to repositioning along with adequate nutrition, pressure ulcer prevention information leaflets were given
to patients and skin assessments (Amir et al., 2011). It must also be considered that different patients will have different comorbidities and the use of a risk
assessment tool is vital to assess and implementing a plan for pressure ulcer prevention according to the patient s score (Tannen et al., 2010).
Frequency of Repositioning
The timing of position changes for pressure ulcer prevention is very limited in the studies that were researched. A study found that adults who were frequently

(Rawls 109). Old Dan is so obsessed with catching the coons that he would jump out of the tree to catch it even if he died. Little Ann is nervous at this point so
she decided to call to Billy for help, and even after Billy got older and down from the tree he started to climb back up. Little Ann saw Old Dan get sucked into
a muskrat done so she was smart enough to call for Billy and Billy didn t know what was going on she started to dig where she saw Old Dan go under. She was
digging in a small hole about the size of a big apple. It was the air hole for a muskrat den. I pulled Little Ann away from the hole, knelt down, and put my ear
to it. I could hear something, and feel a vibration in the ground. It was an eerie sound and seemed to be coming from far away. I listened. Finally I understood
what the noise was. It was the voice of Old Dan (Rawls 107). After she dug the beginning of the hole Billy started to hear the bawl of Old Dan underground
and Billy was able to pull Old Dan out. Her cunning ability to almost be able to communicate with Billy allowed her to show Billy that Old Dan was stuck
underground. Old Dan and Little Ann share many differences that are good and bad but when it becomes time to hunt Little Ann uses her brain to find and tree
the coon and Old Dan uses his brawn to catch and finish the

Sheryl Sandberg s Criticism Of Lean In
In 2013, Sheryl Sandberg released the best selling novel, Lean in, that calls on professional women to lean in by aiming for leadership positions in their jobs
and examines what factors prevent woman from doing so. Last year, her non profit organization launched a public awareness campaign, Lean In Together, or
#LeanInTogether, to partner with the NBA and WNBA. This campaign was focused on men s roles in reaching gender equality. However, the book and
campaign has faced its criticism. Reviewers have deemed the book too narrowly focused on women like Sandberg who are educated, white, and provided with
opportunities out of the reach of an average female. Other critics have questioned Sandberg s relevant guidance to the average woman, since ... Show more

I choose FIFA because of the giant inequality gap between the men and the women. LeanIn is designed the bring men and women together, and FIFA should
embrace this as it s been proven that there is a big audience for women s soccer. 26.7 million viewers watched the 2015 FIFA Women s World Cup Final.
However, women s soccer is not treated equally with the men. Sepp Blatter is on record saying that women players should wear short shorts to gain more
viewers. Also, the women World Cup games were played on artificial turf causing opposed to the men who played on grass, and men s games are given
incredible investment and promotion, that the women do not receive. The FIFA LeanIn program would heavily emphasize promoting the women as equal to
the men. Giving the women players the same type of investment given to promoting the men can go a long way to driving interest and attendance for the
women. To further promote this movement, men s leagues such as the Premier League can invoke a uniform change where players wear jersey badges that
promote the LeanIn campaign along with placing banners around the field. Without heavily investing into equal rights and equipment, the gap between the
men and women will never

Essay On Sabiller
SABMiller is a leading brewing and beverage company that concentrates on delivering refreshment and sociability to millions of people globally. Over its 120
year history, SABMiller has produced over 200 beers in more than 80 countries, appropriating the title as the second largest brewer in the world. Not only does
it focus its efforts in the alcoholic beverage industry, but also as a company formulating sustainable efforts to make a change in the world and society today.
Social media is heavy within the brewing industry, but is more prevalent and successful for direct beer brands, rather than parent companies such as
SABMiller, AB InBev, or Diageo. SABMiller focuses its social media efforts on sharing its blogs, news, and media releases ... Show more content on

Online, however, SABMiller could use a facelift. Firstly, the website is mobile compatible and user friendly. The site is navigationally pleasing in that it
defines where users are and where they can continue to search. Everything about SABMiller can be found and learned easily on the site and the content is
perfect for the audience. Based on the Marketing Grader site, SABMiller needs to improve in two areas: performance and SEO. If SABMiller optimizes its
website performance it could result in increased traffic, improved conversion rates, more leads, and an increase in revenue. Additionally, as a fast and relatively
small site, SABMiller could also fix its Search Engine Optimization. SABMiller needs assistance in discovering and engaging directly on the site. A simple fix
would be to amend the meta description in order to deliver a clear purpose and description of the content on the page. Connected and promoted on the website
are SABMiller s five social media platforms which generate content based on the blogs, news stories, and media releases that SABMiller produces. As
mentioned above and below, SABMiller s social presence is in need of the most work and thus, my recommendations are essential to support SABMiller for
the future in this digitally focused age. Although I am focusing on SABMiller, this also pertains to the other leading brands within the industry as their
websites and social platforms are equally

Statement For MS Industrial Engineering
Program: MS Industrial Engineering Applicant Name: Venkatesh Manohar
Demand of both technical background and management capabilities are keeping me enthralled with the field of industrial engineering. After twenty one
months of industrial experience as Junior Manager at JSW Steel Coated Products Ltd, I strongly feel that bachelor degree in mechanical engineering is not
sufficient for survival in this competitive field and hence I decided to explore more by pursing MS Industrial Engineering at X Y Z.
My passion for engineering drove me to choose Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics at my high school. After passing my high school examination with flying
colors, I decided to pursue Mechanical Engineering as my undergraduate major. I chose Mechanical because of its perfect blend with many engineering fields
such as Aerospace, Manufacturing, Industrial, Electronics and what not. My undergraduate study was a judicious mix of core courses from various fields. I got
interested in industrial engineering after taking subjects like Engineering Economics and Analysis, Operations Research, Manufacturing Planning and Control
and Computer Aided Design and Manufacturing.
My inclination drove me to do a project in quality control titled, Improving the Dimensional Accuracy of Pump ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the intermittent period my enthusiasm introduced me to a new concept viz Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (FMEA) . I have studied the fundamental
principles of FMEA by discussing along with my fellow classmates and professors. We also did two case studies on punching process and sparkplug using
FMEA principles. We got overwhelmed when both of our works got selected and published in international journals (see my

Our results mostly match with these studies. Interestedly, biofilm associated cells showed to be significantly more metabolically active than the sporangia at
pH 9 (p 2 ppt has significantly reduce the infection loads (Stockwell and Mahony 2015). There is evidence that higher concentrations of sodium chloride, 10%
(w/v), can kill Bd in 2 min (Johnson et al. 2003).But, this is a very high concentration which can negatively affect amphibians as well. Salinity of the natural
water bodies increase gradually every year due to agricultural clearing, irrigation and the massive use of de icing salt on roads both in urban and suburban

We provide more complete results regarding the effectiveness of the amphotericin B as an antifungal treatment for chytridiomycosis. As an attempt of finding
novel antifungal therapeutic agents for Bd, we tested the viability of the zoospores, sporangia and biofilm associated cells in the presence of different
concentrations of methyl chavicol, curcumin, allicin and 6 gingerol. Plant extracts have been used to treat different microbial diseases of humans, animals and
plants for decades. Methyl chavicol is not soluble in water; instead it is highly soluble in ethanol and DMSO. Ethanol and DMSO both kill Bd. Therefore,
testing its ability to kill Bd was determined in mixed cultures by directly adding different volumes of oil into 10 ml H broth cultures. The minimal inhibitory
concentration of methyl chavicol was 1 µl/ml which completely killed a mixer of both zoospores and sporangia. Our results match with the previously reported
MIC of 1 µl/ml for methyl chavicol which completely inhibited the mycelial growth of Moniliophthora perniciosa (Costa et al. 2015). Antibacterial activities
of Ocimum sp. essential oils, which consist methyl chavicol as the major component, have been proved to be effective against different bacteria and fungi
(Moghaddam et al. 2014, Pandey et al. 2014). Even though methyl chavicol seems very promising in mitigating Bd in vitro, in vivo studies are highly
recommended as there is evidence that methyl chavicol

Hurricane Katrina A Natural Disaster
Hurricane Katrina was one of the worst natural disasters in US history, the perfect storm in one of the most impoverished parts of the US. The damage from the
storm, flooding and the resulting loss of life and property was astounding. However, I lack the words to describe the economic impacts of such a disaster to the
peoples of the Gulf Coast. As with all major catastrophic events, even with all the planning in the world it comes down to people helping people to survive.
FEMA, the local and State Government, Emergency response/first responders, National Guard, and Private Corporate Assistance did what they could to
mitigate the damage, however, the planning for such an event was (in hindsight) far too little and made the emergency even more dire. I see the responsibility
for preparation for future hurricane/natural disasters can be divided into at least 4 parts: The Federal Government, State/Local officials, private
corporations/industries, and personal responsibilities. Federal Government Continued training and emergency planning at various Federal agencies.
Unfortunately, in the case of chaotic natural disasters, Human element (looters, gangs, violence) prior to Katrina may not have been fully part of the emergency
response scenarios played out in simulations at a federal/private think tank. This enigma may never be solved as regional behavior is almost impossible to
predict without local experts in sociological phycology and behavioral science. However,

Hippolytus vs. Pentheus Essay
Hippolytus vs. Pentheus
When arguing the statement, the character of Pentheus in the Bacchae is portrayed as earning his fate, whereas the character of Hippolytus in the Hippolytus is
portrayed as an innocent victim of the god, I must both, agree and disagree with it. I would definitely agree with it on a shallow point of view, but would have
to disagree with it upon dissecting both the stories. The stories tell of Hippolytus being killed for something he did not do, while Pentheus was killed for not
accepting the god Dionysus. But when you look deep into the meaning of each story, the apparent black and white assumptions of innocents and guilt change
from definitive to doubt to say the least.
When reading the story of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Further along in the story, he ends up blaming Zeus for creating women and he also blames him after finding out about Phaedra s feelings; which seems to me
that he was even blaming Zeus for making her become infatuated with him. The infatuation was Aphrodite s doing for lack of worship, not Zeus . So even
though Hippolytus did not sin toward Phaedra, he ends up sinning toward Zeus, by questioning his putting of women on the earth and blaming him for
something he had no part in, and to Aphrodite by not giving her the respect she thought she deserved.
Then if read shallowly, the Bacchae also seems to be black and white, in the fact that the story tells of Pentheus earning his fate. The first step would be when
strange things started to happen and the arrest of the stranger, Dionysus. Next, and the most important step in him earning his fate would be that Pentheus
rejects the belief of Dionysus. Later on, more strange things happen, namely miracles and now Pentheus and Dionysus meet again, this time Pentheus is unable
to reject him and starts to fall under his spell. They then meet for a final time and now Dionysus is in total control and humiliates Pentheus. When the chorus
sees this, they invoke the Swift hounds of Frenzy to bring vengeance on Pentheus for failing to honor the gods. Pentheus is then finally killed by Bacchantes
with the aid of his mother Agave. This seems to be a simple story of a man who rejected

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Emerging Markets

Balancing Risk and Reward The PwC EM20 Index 2009 Interim Update

We see these features of emerging markets as symptoms of underlying market structures that share common, important, and persistent differences from those
in developed economies.
A fundamental premise of our work is that emerging markets reflect those transactional arenas where buyers and sellers are not easily or efficiently able to
come together. Ideally, every economy would provide a range of institutions to facilitate the functioning of markets, but developing countries fall short in a
number of ways. These institutional voidsmake a market emerging and are a prime source of the higher transaction costs and operating challenges in these
markets.
By relying on outcome criteria to assess markets, managers often overlook the ways in which emerging markets operate differently than do developed
economies. Ranking the world s economies by per capita gross domestic product would suggest that the United Arab Emirates, for example, is among the
world s most developed economies, but it is an emerging market nonetheless because of its market

Alcohol Expectancy Theory
The purpose of this study is to investigate undergraduates expectancies of consuming alcohol on its own and consuming alcohol combined with energy drinks.
An individual s beliefs regarding what will happen as a result of consuming alcohol are referred to as Alcohol Expectancies (Brown, Goldman, Inn, Anderson,
1980). These are often tested on an scale called the Anticipated Effects of Alcohol Scale (AEAS) assessing individuals against criterion which varied in
positive and negative valence and low and high arousal (Morean, Corbin, Treat, 2012). Prior to this scale, the alcohol expectancy theory concluded that
individuals are more at risk of excessive alcohol consumption if they believe that consuming alcohol will lead to low levels of ... Show more content on

Whilst Verster, Benson, and Scholey (2014) found that there were no relevant differences between motivation behind AmED consumption and other
nonalcoholic mixers in a study of 2329 Norwegian students, most studies have found that there were varying motivational factors as to why individuals
consumed alcohol mixed with energy drinks. For example, Marczinski, Fillmore, Henges, Ramsay, Young, (2013) found an association between individuals
wanting to drink more and their AmED consumption. Supporting these findings, another study showed that individuals often believe that consuming AmED s
will have more positive outcomes, such as reducing alcohol intoxication, although the results showed that the consumption of AmED s actually led to
increased negative outcomes (Droste et al., 2014). Alternatively AmED s being used to aid intoxication was also reported (Cobb et al., 2013; MacKillop et al.,
2012; Peacock et al., 2013a; Pennay and Lubman, 2012). Furthermore, another study concluded that an individual s propensity to consume alcohol mixed with
energy drinks were due to a combination of motivational factors; expectancies, beliefs, social interactions, and attitudes (Varvil Weld et al.,

The goal of this paper will be to determine the average speed of the river s current. Variables Let x represent the speed of the current of the river. Let t1 represent the time it takes to travel upstream. Let t2 represent the time it takes to travel downstream. Let r1 represent the rate of the kayaker when moving upstream. Let r2 represent the rate of the kayaker when moving downstream. Let d1 represent the distance of the journey upstream. These values represent the possible speeds of the current of the river when the time of travel is equal to five hours. • 3. Pavlov s Classical Conditioning And Skinner s Operant... TaSheena Moore 2/4/2016 PSY 110 Pavlov s Classical Conditioning and Skinner s Operant Conditioning Learning is a relatively permanent change in behavior due to experience. There are two types of learning, associative learning and cognitive learning. Associative learning occurs when a person or an animal forms a simple association among various stimuli, behaviors, or both. It requires little to no awareness or thought. Cognitive learning refers to understanding, knowing, and anticipating. Our subject today comes from associative learning. There are two types of associative learning. Ivan Pavlov of Russia, discovered classical conditioning, and Edward Thorndike discovered operant conditioning. Classical conditioning is the type of associative learning based on what happens before we respond. It begins with a stimulus that reliably triggers a behavior as a response. Classical conditioning occurs when you learn to associate two different stimuli. There is no behavior involved. The first stimulus that you will encounter is the unconditioned stimulus. Unconditioned stimulus is a stimulus essentially capable of producing a response without any previous learning. That learning is called an unconditioned response. Pavlov conducted a study using dogs. He placed the dogs in a harness and placed a piece of food on their tongue. A tube was placed to carry saliva from the dogs mouth to a lever measuring the saliva. Pavlov believed that salivation was an automatic, inherited reflex. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This opinion of the depiction of women holding the lotus (with which I agree contradicts that of Pflüger who states that the motif of smelling the lotus does not appear on dated stelae earlier than Sesostris I, when it is rather frequently met with, but only in connection with women. In Twelfth Night, the characters who prove this are Olivia and Sir Andrew. Olivia has fallen in love with the fake man Cesario , and Sir Andrew is deliberately trying to woo Olivia through foolish and pathetic ways. Twelfth Night demonstrates that women are weak and are able to fall in love easily, due to their gullibility when it comes to love. This was shown as Olivia was able to fall in love with fake man Cesario , who was truly Viola in disguise. Although the Duke Orsino has real feelings for Olivia, she refuses to love him back as her love is only for Cesario . Shakespeare conveys this message through Viola s soliloquy, and is ... The first time I walked into the room, right away I noticed a small library in the corner. The library consists of picture, non fiction, and fiction books. There was a big, blue, comfy carpet surrounding the library section for the students to read on. The day would start off with the students correcting two sentences silently then doing it together. An example would be mr white came to are house to fix the freazer . The students would then raise their hands to fix the sentence. If the student was right, they would have to explain to the class why they did it. As the day went on, I noted how much time they spend on reading and writing during ... The teacher would emphasize the words to make the story more interesting and ask questions throughout. She did a very good job making connections with the students to help them engage in the lesson. The students focused a lot on learning sequence of events, and the story map. The story map involves the title, author, main characters, setting and main points. About three students in the classroom were only reading at kindergarten level and the other students were reading at either the grade level or higher than the grade level. I took time to work with the students who could only read at kindergarten level. As I was working with them, I caught myself sounding the words out every time and breaking it down for them. Doing that helped the struggling students more than I expected. Once they kept hearing me sounding the word out, they would do the same and be able to figure out the words themselves. After reading then would go onto special and then come back and practice writing. The teacher would integrate reading also in writing by splitting the students into their leveled groups and every 15 minutes, the students would cycle into ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Essay on Main Street Sinclair Lewis makes point of the efforts that Carol produces to reform her new home. These efforts can be perceived by the townspeople as unwelcomed and unsuccessful. Some of Carol s ideas are ludicrous, out of proportion and not ready for the slow moving town. She tries several different approaches to reforming the town from the moment of her arrival. She goes from architectural reform to poetic reform to artistic to introducing liberalism to amusing social functions. All of these tactics she hopes will spring forth a reform movement to beautify and culturalize the town and people. Her initial attempts at bringing the town out of its shell consisted of throwing fun and exciting parties. Such as her Chinese house warming party on page ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Assuming an in depth reading of selected poems and lively discussions will take up the time, she is startled by the biographical and historical information that is shown off as great literary papers. Her idea of starting a dramatics association after a night of charades, becomes such in the weeks to follow. She experiences the overwhelming control of small town politics and agreement with association that is exhibited in the play selection process. Her choice for the leading lady is dictated by the longing for social acceptance and the simple art of sucking up. She ascertains that her vision of the perfect play has been tainted by the unmotivated, unreliable and unscrupulous cast she has assembled. The consistent snide, off handed remarks and unannounced, unwanted suggestions echo the toils of community theater groups across the present Midwest. Carol has wonderful aspirations and ideas to help awaken the sleepy town of Gopher Prairie, but she is held back by the stiff, stubborn close mindedness of the small town. The obstacles she encounters are her own self criticisms. It is quite true that the townswomen gossip about her to no end, but if she could stop and listen, they gossip about each other just as much. She does not comprehend that the common means of conversation in the town are achieved through the criticizing of others. Carol will never attain her dream village if she does not learn how to ... Asma s book On Monsters, a bloody history, a dark past of humanity have been introduced as a monster. It is Khmer Rouge s infamous security prison S21: the representation of the massacre took place in Cambodia in 20th century and this kind of monster, unfortunately, is still relevant to the world, even till this day. In just three years of its power in control, Pol Pot and Khmer Rouge turned the country of Cambodia into a living hell. By 1976 approximately twenty five hundred prisoners had passed through the bloody corridors of S21, and each year that followed saw increased numbers of tortured prisoners, until they totaled around seventeen thousand by 1979, when the Vietnamese Army liberated Phnom Penh. The Way Poets Present Ideas of Death and Loss in Mid Term Break, On the Train, On My First Sonne and The Affliction of Margaret Works Cited Missing In the poems Mid Term Break by Seamus Heaney, On The Train by Gillian Clarke, On My First Sonne by Ben Jonson and The Affliction of Margaret by William Wordsworth, all of the poets convey a loss or death, experienced by either the poet themselves, or other people too. In Mid Term Break , Seamus Heaney experiences the loss of his younger brother (he is four years old: a four foot coffin, a foot for every year ). He is reminded that he is the eldest, and as such is now treated more as a man than a child. The effect of the death has a large effect on the family: In the porch I met my father crying this is ironic, as his father had always taken funerals in his stride . The use of language adds to the effect of the poem: wearing a poppy bruise on his left temple . Heaney uses the metaphor of a poppy marking the bruise on his head because poppies are used to commemorate and respect those who have lost their lives in conflict, and generally signify death and remembrance. Heaney starts off using simple language, and the phrase: at ten o clock the ambulance arrived with the corpse, stanched and bandaged by nurses suggests a detachment of Heaney, from the events, and helplessness as all that he can do is watch. Simple language such as: corpse suggests an inability for Heaney to express his feelings, and is also the first confirmation that we have of a death. The sentences and language used by Heaney soon change from simple structures to that of a complex structure, representing the discovery of his feelings towards the tragedy: Snowdrops and candles soothed the bedside; I saw him the first time in six weeks this is an example of a complex sentence used by Heaney and also shows how he is addressing his feelings. • 10. Democratic Party Racism Is the Democratic Party the Party of Racism? Most people of the Democratic Party fall into two different categories; either they are Democrats by design or by deception. The Democratic Party s history reveals it has long ignored its racist leanings. Historically, the Democrats were the most avid supporters of slavery while the founding of the Republican Party supported the abolition of slavery, and the entrenchment of civil liberties in the United States. For instance, the 13th amendment passed in 1864 that abolished slavery got massive support from the Republicans, in comparison to the Democrats, in Congress. Roosevelt, the failure by most Democrats, especially those in positions of authority, to appreciate racial equality in support of white supremacy demonstrates their non reformist character and belief in racism. It reveals the lack of moral conscience amongst Democrats as they fail to visualize how their racist ideologies erode the democratic gains Americans have fought for such as equality in representation and access to opportunities. Such insensitiveness is a sign of failure by Democrats to appreciate the strides that the minorities such as the blacks had fought fervently over the years. It becomes apparent that most Democrats in leadership positions knew that any support for civil liberties and other forms of equality would evoke resentment amongst their supporters. It is, therefore, clear that most of the rights and freedoms being enjoyed in America today are due to non racist ideologies of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

What made the Civil War such a massacre? The Civil War was such a bloodbath because the technological advances were so far superior to the tactics of the infantry, that the weapons virtually obliterated the soldiers. Soldiers would form lines known as a battalions. In these battalions, soldiers would basically march to their deaths. In addition to weapons doing so much damage, fortification on the battlefield was far more advanced than had ever been before. Colonel Mosby once remarked . . .the only real use for a sword was to hold a piece of meat over a fire for frying. 6 The Union army, unlike the Confederates, had multiple companies that provided simple, yet devastating weapons. One of these weapons was the .52 caliber breech loading Billinghurst Requa battery; it was produced only 50 times. This weapon consisted of 25 rifled barrels side by side that, when primed, were set off by a lanyard to inflict massive damage over a small range of territory.7 The Union forces also produced many long range artillery weapons. Unlike the Confederates, who used Howitzers; the Union Army used mortars. The short squat mortar, as it was called, was originally used by the Ottoman s in 1453. The mortars operated by the Union were primarily used to hurl shells over walls or into large concentrations of enemy soldiers. In addition to lobbing bombs over walls, the mortars were also extremely effective in dismantling naval forces. The mortars could be shot from miles inland, therefore Confederate naval forces never saw the bombs coming. The mortar weighed 17,120 pounds and could fire a 220 pound bomb 4,325 yards. There were smaller versions of these mortars (the 300 lb Coehorn mortar with a 5.8 inch bore that hurled an 18 pound shell), but they saw very little activity on the battlefield.8 The Union forces also used another form ... Much of this information is speculation until we can perform a basic comparative financial analysis of Herbalife and try to conclude based on the current stock price and financials whether the stock is overvalued, fairly valued, or undervalued. I believe that Herbalife is undervalued and that the stock is worth much more than its current value. Herbalife continues to make strides and the market had observed that it has experienced significant percentage changes in its revenue, EBITDA and earnings over the past five years. • 13. Pros And Cons Of Fordism Fordism a good idea or a bad one? The purpose of this paper is to state that Fordism was not a stable production system, even though it achieved great success when it was first applied by Henry Ford. The Fordism production method will be critically assessed on the segregation it built between workforce and management and how it established a dominant American industry. The study will also define the concept of Fordism and how it influenced the motor vehicle industry, in which this production model was first implemented. By the beginning of the 20th century technology had become advanced enough to introduce the motor vehicle. Despite this, for many years the automobile remained an expensive luxury item created by craftsmen. It was something only the wealthy could afford. That was until Henry Ford, a son of the Scientific Movement of Management, developed a new line of thought. He wanted to make cars available to the masses by changing the production process in a way that would reduce costs, so more people could afford the product. Ford introduced a new approach to production, which included standardization, specialization and the usage of the assembly line and the conveyor belt system (Smith, 2011). His business model was so successful that it sparked a revolution in the entire industry. Even today, a century later, the world is still greatly influenced by Fordism. Shakespeare portrays love as a violent yet ecstatic, overpowering force. The force of love persuades the thoughts and actions of the characters leading them to drastic measures. Romeo and Juliet show great devotion to one another despite the trouble it causes. Over the course of the play, Shakespeare displays the forcefulness and intensity of love by the abandonment of friends and family, feud, and death. Both Romeo and Juliet aren t afraid of the consequences of abandoning their loved ones. Romeo leaves his friends behind in order to be with Juliet. In return, Juliet would give up her name, and put her family on the line, just to be with Romeo. Juliet expresses her thoughts aloud as she says, O Romeo, Romeo! wherefore art thou Romeo? • 17. Essay on Atheism, the Hidden Prejudice Atheism, the Hidden Prejudice Prejudice has plagued our society since its conception. There have been great strides taken in educating people to the ignorance of racism, hatred, and bigotry. The majority people feel that it is wrong to judge someone based on their race, sexual preference, or sex. Mention to people that you do not believe in a god, and you will often find hate filled stares, ignorant remarks, and judgments made. To better understand this, we will discuss the following in this paper: the history of Atheism, religious freedom in the United States, examples of religious prejudice, and some reasoning why religious discrimination occurs. Many people feel that Atheism is a new age trend; this is incorrect. The term ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It also states that no law should be made against religious establishments, practices, or beliefs. It is probably not a coincidence that this is the first amendment to the Constitution. The founding fathers new the importance of religious tolerance and the separation of church and state. They did not want the new America to become a religious government, like the English monarchy. Every person wants their rights protected and upheld; unfortunately, this is not occurring for those of non secular beliefs. Race, sexual preference, and religious beliefs are the most common forms of prejudice. As a society we have made great progress against racial and sexual bigotry. What seems to be without thought, religious discriminations have been left by the wayside. From 1930 to 2007, polls conducted by the Gallup Organization asked people if they would vote for the best qualified person for president who happened to be X . X represented Atheist, Baptist, Catholic, Jewish, Mormon, Black, Hispanic, homosexual, married 3 times, and 72 years of age. Out of all the categories Atheist showed the least amount of improvement. The 2007 results show that only 45% would have voted yes. That is only a 5% increase from 1978 and a 4% decrease from 1999. In 1978, homosexuals had the lowest at 26%, but in 2007 55% said they would vote yes for a homosexual candidate (Robinson). Sigmund Freud s theory describes the ideas and emotions which exist within the unconscious mind of children concerning their desire to possess their mothers sexually and eliminate the threat of their fathers who they competed with for the attention of their mothers. The answer to this question cannot be answered in modern society but in the past countries were the ones to label genders. Soviet Union you will raise children and birth them but also be a soldier and fight when needed. You will be treated as a man but with the duty of a woman . Women in Colonial Quito were legally obligated to practice obedience to their husbands. Women were dominated by their husbands and faced abused. The gender inequalities and differences have been socially constructed and scientifically quantified by countries in order to protect the civilization and control the population. Women in Nazi Germany and Soviet Union both had different social roles in what they considered service to their country as they were socially constructed to maintain their civilization. The governments of the interregnum failed to find an acceptable settlement predominantly due the power vacuum which was left by the King when he was executed. This wasn t helped by the lack of legitimacy of the regicide where only 59 MP s signed Charles death warrant. However one could argue that Oliver Cromwell, Parliament and The New Model Army s want and desire for more power also led to the failure to find an acceptable settlement. After Charles was executed several political problems arose because there was no direction of settlement due to the degree and nature of the reform. For example, the military wanted a radical religious reform, led by John Lambert, whereas the civilians (or parliament) wanted a more moderate, parliament endorsed regime, led by figures such as Lord Broghill. Therefore, Cromwell was a major source of division and was said to be an ideological schizophrenic (Worden). Furthermore division was made worse by Oliver Cromwell (Worden) which is seen with the fluctuation of Cromwell s views between 1649 58, beginning with the dissolution of the Rump Parliament, because he favoured the Nominated Assembly, devised by fifth monarchist Thomas Harrison, however the Assembly was named the Barebones Parliament. Despite Cromwell initially siding with a Godly rule (Smith), he reverted back to the regime to protect tradition, helped by Lambert who ended the Barebones Parliament due to the fear of the increasing power of religious radicals. Therefore, it was the indecisive nature of Oliver Cromwell that led to the failure in attempting to create an acceptable settlement in politics and religion. Religious radicalism was fundamentally linked politics. Following Civil War in 1642, religious radicalism evolved due to the collapse of censorship and the Church of England which brought social upheaval across England, making it increasingly difficult for Cromwell to achieve an acceptable settlement. Tired of the poor working and living conditions, overcrowding of the cities, political corruption, and abuses by industrialists, people took it upon themselves to try and create change. By using many forms of the media, combined with organized protests, people exposed these issues and informed thousands of Americans of the conditions that existed. Living conditions were poor, food safety was strictly hazardous, and child labor played a big part in the Progressive era. Food safety in the late 1800 s and early 1900 s was hazardous, filthy, and unsanitary. The food safety issue was not thoroughly recognized until Upton Sinclair published his book, The Jungle. The publishing of The jungle was meant to open America s eyes to the situation of the workers in the filthy, dangerous Chicago stockyards. Instead, it caused an outrage over the meat packaging. Within the first few weeks of his book getting published, Theodore Roosevelt received many letters from the public regarding that the meat packing industry should be more closely watched and regulated. In Sinclair s book, he stated, there would be meat that had tumbled out on the floor, in the dirt and sawdust, where the workers had tramped and spit... There would be meat stored in great piles in rooms. This is showing that the meat was not properly taken care of and the workers simply did not bother in trying to make it sanitary. Another piece of data that would support this would be, a man could run his hand over these piles of meat and sweep off handfuls of the dried dung of rats. and This was no fairy story and no joke; the meat would be shoveled into carts, and the man who did the shoveling would not trouble to lift out a rat even if he saw one. Essay on Pressure Ulcer Prevention Repositioning Pressure Ulcer Prevention Repositioning Introduction Pressure ulcers are one of the most common problems health care facilities often face which causes pain and discomfort for the patient, cost effective to manage and impacts negatively on the hospital (Pieper, Langemo, Cuddigan, 2009; Padula et al., 2011). The development of pressure ulcers occur when there is injury to the skin or tissue usually over bony prominences such as the coccyx, sacrum or heels from the increase of pressure and shear. This injury will compromise blood flow and result in ischemia due to lack of oxygen being delivered (Gyawali et al., 2011). Patients such as those who are critically ill or bed bounded are at high risk of developing pressure ulcers (O Brien et ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Most mobile patients are able to reposition themselves, while others who are critically ill are not able to feel or respond to pain. Therefore, nurses need to assess those patients in repositioning to decrease the risk of developing pressure ulcers (REF). Nurses need to realise what they are looking for when performing skin assessments for patients. A study conducted by Thoroddsen et al (2013), found that out of 45 patients that had pressure ulcers only 27 were correctly recorded in the patient s records. A study conducted over seven years by Amir et al (2011) showed a significant decline of pressure ulcer development after three years of the study. This was partly due to strategies being implemented in regards to repositioning along with adequate nutrition, pressure ulcer prevention information leaflets were given to patients and skin assessments (Amir et al., 2011). It must also be considered that different patients will have different comorbidities and the use of a risk assessment tool is vital to assess and implementing a plan for pressure ulcer prevention according to the patient s score (Tannen et al., 2010). Frequency of Repositioning The timing of position changes for pressure ulcer prevention is very limited in the studies that were researched. A study found that adults who were frequently turned every two to three hours did not develop as much pressure ulcers compared to those who were turned less regularly (Lyder ... Plant extracts have been used to treat different microbial diseases of humans, animals and plants for decades. Methyl chavicol is not soluble in water; instead it is highly soluble in ethanol and DMSO. Ethanol and DMSO both kill Bd. Therefore, testing its ability to kill Bd was determined in mixed cultures by directly adding different volumes of oil into 10 ml H broth cultures. The minimal inhibitory concentration of methyl chavicol was 1 µl/ml which completely killed a mixer of both zoospores and sporangia. FEMA, the local and State Government, Emergency response/first responders, National Guard, and Private Corporate Assistance did what they could to mitigate the damage, however, the planning for such an event was (in hindsight) far too little and made the emergency even more dire. Federal Government Continued training and emergency planning at various Federal agencies. Hippolytus vs. Pentheus Essay Hippolytus vs. Pentheus When arguing the statement, the character of Pentheus in the Bacchae is portrayed as earning his fate, whereas the character of Hippolytus in the Hippolytus is portrayed as an innocent victim of the god, I must both, agree and disagree with it. I would definitely agree with it on a shallow point of view, but would have to disagree with it upon dissecting both the stories. The stories tell of Hippolytus being killed for something he did not do, while Pentheus was killed for not accepting the god Dionysus. Further along in the story, he ends up blaming Zeus for creating women and he also blames him after finding out about Phaedra s feelings; which seems to me that he was even blaming Zeus for making her become infatuated with him. The infatuation was Aphrodite s doing for lack of worship, not Zeus . So even though Hippolytus did not sin toward Phaedra, he ends up sinning toward Zeus, by questioning his putting of women on the earth and blaming him for something he had no part in, and to Aphrodite by not giving her the respect she thought she deserved. Then if read shallowly, the Bacchae also seems to be black and white, in the fact that the story tells of Pentheus earning his fate. The first step would be when strange things started to happen and the arrest of the stranger, Dionysus. Next, and the most important step in him earning his fate would be that Pentheus rejects the belief of Dionysus. Later on, more strange things happen, namely miracles and now Pentheus and Dionysus meet again, this time Pentheus is unable to reject him and starts to fall under his spell. They then meet for a final time and now Dionysus is in total control and humiliates Pentheus.
