Congenital Heart Disease Research Paper
Congenital Heart Disease
A little girl by the name of Jaelyn was born with congenital heart disease (CHD). Jaelyn s parents
learned about her condition called Ebstein s Anomaly during a fetal echocardiogram when her mother
was only 30 weeks pregnant. The doctors and nurses at Cardinal Glennon Children s Hospital
monitored Jaelyn in utero to watch for hydrops (heart failure) and other indications her heart disease
was affecting her growth. Jaelyn went into heart failure just five weeks later when her mother was
only 35 weeks pregnant. She was given a 5% chance of survival due to the severity of her defect. The
family was also told Jaelyn would not survive past her first birthday; she turns five in March. When
Jaelyn was born, her entire family was afraid she wouldn t survive the delivery, but thankfully, Jaelyn
s story is a true miracle. When the doctors see Jaelyn during routine checkups and physician visits,
they can t believe she has Ebstein s Anomaly because for how far she has come and how healthy she
looks. Sadly, not every child with congenital heart disease gets the miracle Jaelyn has been given.

During the first seven weeks of pregnancy, the heart completes its development. This is known as the
embryonic period. From a single tube turns into a four chambered pump with four valves.(Herlihy)
During these first seven weeks a congenital heart defect typically occurs. Congenital heart disease is
when the heart forms either incompletely or incorrectly in utero. Acquired heart disease occurs later in
life. Infants are born with a normal heart that malfunctions later. Signs of acquired heart disease in
adults are the heart is beating too fast or too slow, beats erratically, infections, or it is stiff and pumps
poorly. Acquired heart disease in children is typically associated with bacterial or viral infections.

Using Different Types Of Questions For Tests Essay
Often heavily debated on, specifically in an educational setting, is the technique and style in which
students are tested. Whether it be multiple choice, true or false, or short answer responses, test takers
may respond differently due to certain correlations between the way they are tested, and the way they
learn and take tests in general. Using different types of questions for tests has each of their own
benefits, as well as drawbacks. Test format, in addition to a student s age, major and mood, can lead to
inaccurate test results which may correlate with improper test formatting. Multiple choice responses
provide the student with several relatable choices, one being correct. Students then have a 25% chance
of selecting the right response, along with the ability to narrow down the answers. Providing the
answer and other comparably subjected answers presented with the question may stimulate the
individual s memory as well. In terms of short answer responses, the individual is forced to recall all
components of the experiment. Conversely, in true/false responses, students have a 50% chance of
getting the answer correct and are able to make a more precise decision. We predict that true and false
responses will yield a higher result than both short answer and multiple choice results. The Power of
Negative of Multiple Choice Testing, performed by Roediger III and Marsh, they found that learning
was interfered by using a multiple choice format. Also having the test be multiple

The Importance Of Glacier National Park
On August 25, 1916, President Woodrow Wilson signed the act creating the National Park Service to
conserve natural land from being destroyed or messed with. This enabled it to be preserved for many
generations to see rather than it be torn down and made into some lame houses or buildings.
Red wood forest, San Francisco, California
Yellowstone National Park Cody, Wyoming
Glacier National Park Montana
Sequoia National Park California and Yosemite National Park California
Glacier National Park is a very beautiful park with many sites. The Park itself has not really been
toiled with too much but they do receive a outrageous amount of tourist each year. The Glacier

Symbolism in The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne Essay
Symbolism enhances the meaning of even a simple painting. It is when a person looks at the images in
the painting and tries to understand why the painter made those images while another person looks at
it and just calls it dumb without even trying to understand it. The latter person completely loses faith
in the painting and misses the actual point. When people first read The Scarlet Letter, they notice not
only the characters, but also the objects, which may be non living, but carry tons of meaning. They no
longer view everything as random occurring objects in our daily lives or as a mere coincidence, but try
to find the specific reasons of them occurring in the story. All sorts of questions rose in mind: Why did

Pearl s presence gives Hester a reason to live and augments her spirits whenever she loses hope. Pearl,
just like the literal meaning of her name, is really precious to her mother and represents the passion
and spirit the sin provoked in Hester.
The Meteor
The meteor also plays a vital role in The Scarlet Letter. In Chapter 12, when the meteor makes the
letter A in the sky, it is a reminder of the same sin made by Hester to Dimmesdale. It implies that the
letter A should also be worn by Dimmesdale. But the rest of the society interprets the meteor
differently. They think it stands for Angel denoting the entry of the Governor into heaven.
The Red Color
While red personifies Hester s passion as well as hope and love. For example, the red letter, the red
rose bush and Pearl s red dress. Just like Hester doesn t fit in the Puritan society, the wild rose bush
outside prison doesn t fit in the place it grows. The red light shining through the room when sunlight
passes through the red window symbolizes how Hester s passion is spreading among the society.
The Black Color
Hawthorne uses black to symbolize evil, the worst of someone and the darkness that conceals the
truth. Hester describes the prison as the black flower of the civilized society , Pearl s eyes as small
black mirrors and Satan as The Black Man in the forest.
The Gold Color

Economic Systems
Introduction
Economic systems are organized way in which a state or nation allocates its resources and apportions
goods and services in the national community. An economic system is slackly defined as country s
plan for its services, goods produced, and the exact way in which its economic plan is carried out.
There are three types of economic systems exist, they are command economy, market economy, and
mixed economy. Command economy is also sometimes called planned economy. The expectations of
this type of economy is that all major decisions that related to the construction or production,
distribution, commodity and service prices are all made by the government. However, in market
economy, national and state governments play a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Prices also have the function to allocate and distribute a country s resources. Market leads to complete
effectiveness bringing about the best possible distribution of a country s resources in a perfect world.
This would only happen in a state of equilibrium and there is a unique price for every commodity. But
in a realistic world which is imperfect by nature, prices are never at equilibrium and very unstable
depending upon the vagaries of the market forces. This generally harms people living below the
poverty line. It is impossible for them to pay high prices in cases of demand shortage. Thus, the free
market model is not a viable option in developing countries which has a large number of poor.
Besides, producers are aim to minimize profit and maximize rent of production. Examples of countries
that are using this economy system are Hong Kong, USA, and UK. Many developing countries like
India and China are moving towards totally free market economy. The command economy is
government directed. The market forces have very little say in such an economy. There is no private
property. On the other hand, a command economy aims at using all available resources for developing
either in advertising or marketing. In order to ensure that the required inputs are available, the state
would probably conduct some form of input output analysis. All industries act as the input from other
industries and the producers act as the

The Hr Issues Related On The Migration Failure Essay
In order to understand the HR issues involved in HPs migration failure, I started by looking at the
company s corporate culture from origins to date. I needed to determine what had changed as Hewlett
Packard already had numerous successful implementations previously given their vast experience in
the computer industry and there long established relationship with software provider SAP. The current
study identified that the founders of HP, Bill Hewlett Dave Packard created an effective management
style which contained a set of values that defined how they wanted the company and its workforce to
perform. This was known as the HP way . The main emphasis was on innovation through creating new
quality products that added value to their customers requirements and secondly to create a supportive
corporate culture as HPs employees where seen as the company s biggest resource who together their
capabilities accomplished something for the greater good of the organisation. HPs employees where
seen as the company s biggest asset and in turn they were given the opportunity to share in the
company s success through profit sharing plans, they were given tuition to upskill, and the company
offered flexi time and job sharing programs to its employees. Having researched the concept of the HP
way I have discovered that many companies have also adopted this approach into their own business
practices the following points are my understanding of Hewlett Packard s core values

Analysis Of `` For Colored Girls `` By Ntozake Shange
For Colored Girls involves seven women who represents a different shade of the rainbow. The colors
are brown, red, yellow, white, green, orange and blue. Their costumes and make up transformed each
of them and were significant of the color their character embodied. As a group their acting made all of
their roles of equal importance, without one dominating the other. These women together formed a
bond through their various adversities, gradually taking them from strangers to companion. From an
objective view, the audience is allowed to simply observe the events as they take place
chronologically. Throughout the movie during some of the conflicting and traumatic scenes, one of the
women recites a poem to signify and release the emotion being felt at that time. Tyler Perry s movie
For Colored Girls was inspired by a stage play For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide
When the Rainbow is Enuf, written by Ntozake Shange s. The story was adapted from a play that
consists of monologues, which combines dance and poetry. Gates highlights that For colored girls is a
film that makes a strong message of empowerment to the humanity of women. No matter how bad
things could get in life and no matter how many times you ve been brought down, always know you
are strong enough to get back up and not let darkness conquer your life. This essay will explore how a
person can overcome any kind of tragedy, hardship or struggle whether or not they are affected

Pop Art And The Art
Throughout the vast history of art, there have been many art movements that stand out and
revolutionize the art world. However, one movement stands out in particular and it is known as Pop
Art. Pop Art was invented by a few younger artists by the name of Andy Warhol, Claes Oldenburg,
and Roy Lichtenstein. It was brought about in the 1960s and it helped define a new form of American
Realism. Its origin was sort of a lash out against Abstract Expressionism, which was a style of
painting. The point of pop art was to represent life as most Americans lived it. It pointed out the
simple things that Americans find themselves caught up in in everyday life. Pop Art represented a
world focused around popular culture, which is basically what is hot in America at the time. Pop Art
brought about the reality that America revolved around the culture of things like Wall Street Finance
and Madison Avenue Advertising. It sort of presented the thought that maybe Americans weren t so
hard to get through to or to understand. Pop Art revealed the pop culture in America and made
beautiful art in return. It helped turn the page in the art world that was leaving traditional media, like
painting, in the wind.
Although there were many great artists to work with Pop Art like Claes Oldenburg and Roy
Lichtenstein, one that particularly stands out is Andy Warhol. Born in August of 1928 in Pittsburgh,
Pennsylvania, Warhol was not among the most fortunate. Throughout his young life, Andy Warhol
lived in

Wildlife Biologist Career Essay
The career I chose was a wildlife biologist. Wildlife Biologists study the physical and behavioral
characteristics of wildlife, as well as human actions on animals and their ecosystem. The duties of a
wildlife biologist range anywhere from writing a report to collecting data by experimenting and
observing. For instance, a wildlife biologist may have to collect data from observing animal
reproduction, interaction between species, and movement patterns. Other times, wildlife biologists
will spend time indoors writing papers that explain the data they collected, giving presentations, and
doing pre experiment research. Usually a wildlife biologist focuses on a specific type of species,
which can include marine mammals, insects, amphibians, reptiles, ... Show more content on

The current demand for wildlife biologists isn t high, but in the future the demand will increase due to
human trends which include pollution, habitat destruction, and climate change. Although more
biologists will be needed in the future to study human impact on wildlife, the job employment is only
expected to increase by four percent (which is slower than usual) by 2024. The term wildlife refers to
birds, whales, gorillas, jaguars, rhinos, sharks, etc.. Like aforesaid, a wildlife biologist typically
specializes in one of these animal categories. However, choice may be limited based on location.
Coast states such as Florida, Texas, California, Alaska, Hawaii and others tend to offer many jobs in
marine biology. Other landlocked states may have jobs that focus on land wildlife. Generally
speaking, this career is available worldwide (including the Galveston area), therefore it wouldn t be
absolutely necessary to relocate. Beginners in the career are likely to start off with a low position and
once again, a low pay. Whenever a person has gained experience in their position, they are likely to be
promoted to a higher position with an increased

Wireless Technologies
Wireless Technologies
Introduction
As wireless technology has begun to mature, the demand for wireless products has increased as new
applications for the technology are realized. One application for wireless technology at the U.S. Naval
Academy is to use the wireless capability to enhance classroom instruction. Currently the Electrical
Engineering and Physics Departments have wireless access points and wireless laptops/desktops
available for classroom instruction. The purpose of this report is to provide the technical research
necessary to aid decision makers in determining which wireless technologies the Naval Academy
should invest.
Background
In a wireless network, computers communicate with the network through a radio ... Show more

Each access point can practically service between 32 to 64 users, depending upon manufacturer. The
bandwidth will be shared by all users. The number of radio channels associated with each technology
will vary by technology and product manufacturer. Multiple channels allows for multiple access points
to be collocated in order to provide access for a larger number of users.
Current USNA Uses
The Electrical Engineering Department currently uses the Dell suite with a wireless access point and
24 wireless laptops. They use the wireless network for in class projects where the use of either
simulation (OPNET) or design software (PSPICE) is being taught and used.
The Physics department is using a LinkSys 802.11b wireless access point and LinkSys wireless NIC
cards with desktop computers. Their primary use is for internet access.
Recommendation
The best technology system for the Naval Academy would be the 802.11a standard. It has 54 Mbps
throughput capability as well as adequate range, sufficient for classroom use. Since the 54 Mbps is
shared amongst all users, it would allow, at a minimum, 2 Mbps for each user in a class of 20
midshipmen operating simultaneously. It also has higher data rates at comparable distances

Judgement In The Poisonwood Bible
Never judge a book by its cover. People judge others based solely on differences and stereotypes
created by others and false rumors. In the novel The Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver this is
seen many times throughout the book. Nathan, the father in the novel believes that women are held to
a certain standard and shows that in theses examples. First, when Nathan yells, Nakedness, and
darkness of the soul! For we shall destroy this place where the loud clamor of the sinners in waxen
great before the face of the Lord. (7). This shows Nathan judging the women of the Kilanga Village
based on the bible because he believes they are sinning because the bible says so. Proving that he
doesn t give them a chance to explain so they are yelled at by Nathan that they are sinning. Another
example is when Nathan expresses his feelings on sending his ... Show more content on

Sinister Games on a Dark Mountain
It was the darkest night of the year and the winter winds had finally arrived, biting into the skin of the
traveler as he pushed onward through the forbidding forest. The villagers had warned him against
venturing into the woods after sunset; they pleaded, saying that people had gone into the forest and
had never been seen again. But he had a deadline to meet. The traveler was carrying a letter for the
magistrate of the county beyond the mountains, a message warning of an impending attack from the
south. The traveler had to get to the county before dawn or all would be lost, so he hurried deeper into
the unfriendly wilderness. He paused, leaning against an ancient oak to catch his breath. Crack! The
traveler s heart froze in his chest. He looked around wildly, searching for the source of this sound. He
was about to call out to determine if the noise had been caused by a person, but the words died in his
throat as he heard laughter. The laughter sounded like that of a child but there was something off about
it. There was a cruel twinge to the laughter, almost as if it was mocking him. The laughter subsided
and was replaced by the sound of something scratching against wood. The scratching noise sounded
almost metallic, as if it were made by a knife or a sword. The traveler drew his own blade and shouted
Identify yourself, friend or foe? The scratching noise stopped abruptly and a child s whisper replied,
Friend? I d like very much to be your friend. Let s play a game. The

Khafre Enthroned
Throughout the many historical periods of history, there always had been pieces of artwork that
depicted the rulers of the time. Khafre Enthroned(Fig 1) and Justinian as world conqueror(Fig 2) are
two examples of how they were represented during their time as leaders. Even though they are from
two different time periods, the former being Egyptian and the latter Byzantine, they are both
successful at displaying how artists and the people at their time period respectfully portrayed their
rulers.
Several stylistic characteristics of the Egyptian time period can be found on Khafre Enthroned. The
Egyptian statue Khafre Enthroned, or the seated statue of Khafre, is the artwork depicting one of
Egypt s earliest rulers. The medium used for the statue is diorite, a stone dark in shade and immensely

the sun. The combination of the animal and the head of the pharaoh was an icon that was frequently
used for a long period of time in the Egyptian history. (khanacademy) The lotus and papyrus plants

My Habits With A Healthy Lifestyle
Around 4 years ago I made the conscious decision to live a healthier lifestyle. I decided almost as an
experiment to refine my eating habits, start exercising on a regular basis, cut back on drinking alcohol
and to get at least 7 hours of sleep every night. I wanted to see if it made any impact on how I felt both
mentally and physically. After maintaining these new habits for a couple of months I realized how
much happier, calmer and healthier I felt. I also noticed that I personally respond positively to having
a schedule that I follow everyday. In the beginning the whole process of changing how I lived was not
simple, however eventually I felt amazing. Four years later and I am still seeing the positive
aftereffects of living this way and have made even more positive adjustments due to how incredible it
makes me feel. It has become second nature and I do not think I will ever go back to my old unhealthy
habits. On a regular week I have about 7 8 hours of sleep a day and I work out in some capacity 7 days
a week. I have 5 days where I exercise for at least 30 minutes a day and on the other two days I do 15
20 minutes. Since making the decision to be healthier I am at the point now where I need to be active
everyday, even if its just a quick 15 minute session, it helps start my day on the right foot and keeps
me balanced. I revel in working out and due to it bringing me pleasure; it ends up being a stress

Taking a Look at Eurasian Milfoil
Invasive species are organisms that harm a new environment that they are not native to. Many
invasive species like Eurasian milfoil are easily able to reproduce and can do so fast. Due to this, the
limited space in a body of water or area of land is quickly taken over by the invasive species so other
native plants face the risk of death or even extinction. Overall, these invasive species can do great
harm to an ecosystem or an economy, causing problems that are destructive to numerous organisms.
Eurasian milfoil or Myriophyllum spicatum is an aquatic invasive plant that can be found throughout
the Chicagoland area and in surrounding bodies of water. This plant can be a hinderance to swimming,
boating, and fishing because of their thick, tangled stems and mats of vegetation. According to the
Minnesota Sea Grant, Eurasian milfoil also overcrowd a body of water which leaves little room for the
plants native to the Great Lakes. One prediction is that if the Eurasian milfoil is not stopped, a
reduction of biodiversity may result in Chicago and the areas surrounding it. If this was to occur, the
ecosystems of the Midwest region would be significantly impacted in a negative way. As reported by
the USDA (United States Department of Agriculture), Eurasian milfoil, which is native to Europe,
Asia, and Northern Africa, was most likely accidentally introduced to the United States through ballast
water, which is water from other places that is dumped into another body of water to aid in

During The Romantic Era, Civil Rights Movements Began To
During the Romantic Era, civil rights movements began to gain strength. Through various methods,
advocates of such causes garnered support and brought attention to perceived problems in the status of
various peoples. Poetry was one of these methods, but the specifics of its implementation, from
appeals to literary devices, varied. Washing Day by Anna Lutita Barbauld used emotions and imagery
to support women s rights, but The Negro s Complaint, an abolitionist poem by Cowper, focused on
ethics to sway its readers.
The purpose of Washing Day is evident by the first stanza; Barbauld indicates that the poem focuses
on the struggles wives face during washing day with the lines Come, Muse, and sing the dreaded

In the same manner as the rain, the husbands are portrayed as major inconveniences worsening an
already miserable day. The narrator describes the women s apprehension of their husbands coming
with more demands such as sewing their stockings to accomplish this (Barbauld 33 40). With these
descriptions, Barbauld paints the men as one of the causes of the wives sadness.
In the later stanzas of the poem, the narrator switches to her own perspective as a child watching the
women go through the motions of washing day. Her naivety and ignorance strengthen Barbauld s
emotional appeal by providing a contrast to earlier descriptions of the wives view, but this perspective
s odd similarity to the men s own makes the strongest impact on the reader. As the women worked, the
narrator sought affection and food as she would on any other day; she didn t understand why her
mother and the other women brushed her aside in favor of working (Barbauld 58 65). Since she was a
child, to her, the day was the same as any other. As she listened to her mother urge haste in the chores,
she wondered as to the purpose of washing day (Barbauld 74 79). The ending lines capture the
purpose of these stanzas: The sports of children and the toils of men/ Earth, air, and sky, and ocean,
hath its bubbles/ And verse is one of them this most of all (Barbauld 84 86). Per these lines, everything
from the works of men to the play of children seems to have value, but the labor of women doesn t in

A Glimpse of Dorothy Parker s Life Essay examples
A Glimpse of Dorothy Parker s Life
Dorothy Rothschild, later to become the famous writer Dorothy Parker, was born on August 22, 1893
to J. Henry Rothschild and Eliza A (Marston) Rothschild in West End, New Jersey. Parker s father, Mr.
Rothschild, was a Jewish business man while Mrs. Rothschild, in contrast, was of Scottish descent.
Parker was the youngest of four; her only sister Helen was 12 and her two brothers, Harold and
Bertram, were aged 9 and 6, respectively. Just before her fifth birthday, Dorothy s mother became very
ill and died on July 20, 1897. Three years later in 1900, Mr. Rothschild remarried to a 48 year old
spinster widow, Eleanor Frances Lewis, who Dorothy referred to as the housekeeper. The new Mrs. ...

was shipped off to war and also had to remain after the war for the occupation in Europe. Another big
step in Dorothy s career occurred shortly soon after, she replaced P.G. Wodehouse as a drama reviewer
for Vanity Fair, the sister magazine of Vogue. Because of their long separation and both developing
into different people, when Eddie returned from the war things were not the same. However, they
stayed together and Dorothy continued to publish several works as well as pursuing an active role in
the literary social scene of New York City. In the end though, after two failed suicide attempts and the
continuation of her gaining a greater sense of self and knowledge, Dorothy eventually divorced Eddie
in March of 1928.
Before marrying her second husband, Alan Campbell in June of 1934, Parker went through two more

poems, and two sets of stories, Laments of the Living (193) and After Such Pleasures (1933). For the

publishing works and contributed to as well as worked for literary magazines. In 1947, Dorothy
divorced Campbell, but three years later they remarried in 1950.

concerned about the risks her child faces due to her age.
There are many risks associated with parental age; including the increased likelihood of being
pregnant with multiples, high blood pressure, hypertension and gestational diabetes. Consequently,
these risks can cause the premature delivery of a baby with a low birth weight (The American College
of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists 2015; March of Dimes 2017; Evidence Based Birth 2017).
Women aged 40 are also susceptible to have a 51% chance of a spontaneous miscarriage and are two

Victimless Crimes
Victimless crime is defined as illegal behavior in which people willingly engage and in which there
are no unwilling victims. Victimless crimes can be viewed as prostitution, illegal drug use, or illegal
gambling. These are considered crimes because they can harm your body, or life in some way, and
because you willingly do them. There are many other things in our lives that we can do such as
smoking cigarettes, or drinking that can harm our lives and body in some way but are legal. In my
opinion these things are legal, because of the fight put up for them in the past, and for the economy.
Alcohol and cigarettes have taxes on them, so the economy benefits from people buying and using
those. Alcohol used to be illegal during the alcohol ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In that I believe that the system will be able to sort the women who do it for themselves, and the
women who do it because they have to and will eventually save many more women from those people
who force them out on the streets because they will be able to find those people and punish them
instead of punishing the victim. I believe that there are some victimless crimes that if they were
actually legalized would benefit not only people, but our economy. I believe that drug use, such as the
use of marijuana and the drug marijuana should be legalized. I believe this, because no one is forced
to grow it, sell it, or smoke it. They do it because they want to. Yes, it causes bodily damage, but so
does cigarettes and alcohol. The legalization of this drug would benefit the economy and will allow
police to go after the drugs that are actually taking people s lives, instead of the one that really isn t
doing any more harm than alcohol and cigarettes do. I believe that prostitution should never be
legalized. Most prostitution is going on because of a man who wants money, and has decided that he
will take women from their homes and families and is forcing them to do things that they shouldn t, so
they can make some good money out of it. Of course this happens to men as well, but you mostly only
see woman selling themselves and I believe that there should be more help out there for those women

(Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency, n.d, pg.3). Therefore, the committee will develop an
emergency action plan to address the potential risk associated with the particular event. The following
sections of the Charlotte Food Festival s disaster preparedness/emergency response plan will detail the
various techniques and strategies to address the risks associated with food safety and illness
prevention, alcohol, crowd control, weather, fire, violent threats, and various emergencies.
The presence of alcohol can add to the regular risks that may arise throughout the execution of a food
festival. Therefore, it is vital that an alcohol protocol is in place to reduce the occurrence of problems
that happen because the serving of alcohol. As the people responsible for events overall management,
event managers are also responsible for overall alcohol management, even if they are not the licensees

Not a day goes by that an individual does not interact with another person, either by phone or in

Merriam Webster defines non sequiturs as an inference that does not follow from the basis premises
(Non sequitur, 2011). The cause and effect of facial expressions are unrelated. Cultures will differ in
nonverbal communication and actions but the facial expressions basically the same.
Gestures
Body gestures are physical types of nonverbal communication. Tapping of a pencil on a desk while
studying, a wave from someone to gain another s attention, or hand signals such as Sign Language or
police directing traffic.
Body Language and Posture How the sender present himself/herself sends nonverbal communication
to a receiver. Handshakes, eye contact, facial expressions, and posture send silent messages to the
other person. Posture is an indicator of approachability. The distinction in posture is rectangular and
triangular. The posture or position of two people will indicate private conversations (rectangle) or an
invitation to join in a conversation (triangle) (Bjorseth, 2007).
Proxemics
Space, proxemics, is the distance between two or more people. The distance between individuals at a
social gathering will be approximately 18 inches compared speaking to an audience, which is 12 to 15

Marketing Mix A marketing strategy is the combination of the target market, or the customers the
marketing is intended to reach, and the marketing mix. Product, price, place, and promotion are
components of the marketing mix, or the four p s, which create a value for the customer (Perreault,
Cannon, McCarthy, 2009). For this reason, the customer, who is not part of the marketing mix, is the
center of the target, surrounded by the elements of the marketing mix. The ultimate goal of a
marketing strategy is to create value for the customer, which allows the organization to increase

The Trial No Search Warrant
Facts of the Case:
Mapp was arrested for possessing obscene pictures, after police illegally obtained them. At the time
Ohio had a statute that made the possession of obscene literature criminal. At Mapp s trial no search
warrant was admitted into evidence, however she was still convicted. The Court citing Wolf vs
Colorado found that evidence obtained from an unlawful search and seizure is admissible in criminal
prosecution. On appeal, the Supreme Court of the United States reversed the judgment and remanded
the case to the Court. unlawful searches and seizure right to privacy

However, the concurring opinion gave by Justice Hugo Black stated that the fourth amendment ban
against unreasonable searches and seizures along with the fifth amendment s ban against forced self
incrimination defends the exclusionary rule.
Another concurring opinion was made by Justice William Douglas believed that the officers had
violated Mapp s right to privacy .
Dissenting Opinion:
Justice Harlan, Justices Frankfurter and Whittaker dissented. Justice Harlan wrote the dissenting
opinion. In his dissent, Justice Harlan argued that the majority confronted the wrong issue in its
decision. Because Mapp was convicted under an Ohio statute criminalizing the possession of obscene
material, Justice Harlan believed that the new and pivotal issue was whether this statute is consistent
with the rights of free thought and expression assured against state action by the Fourteenth
Amendment.(Mapp vs Ohio) He concluded that the majority had ignored the principles of judicial
restraint and stare decisis, and had reached out to consider the exclusionary rule issue. According to
Justice Harlan, this was a First Amendment case and not an appropriate case for extending the Fourth
Amendment s exclusionary rule to the states. He also concluded that it was wrong to impose the
exclusionary rule, designed for the federal criminal process, on the states which, in his view, bore

Abstract
There two main means of providing and producing public services in the United States at the different
levels of government. The first mode is knows as in house production by direct government workforce
and contracting out to the private sector, which we refer to as privatization.
Privatization in the United States mainly implies contracting out of public services to the public sector.
Examples are local governments like the city or the county contracting out services like street
cleaning, garbage pick up and a disposal, education, healthcare, etc.
During the last three decades, privatization has become increasingly popular in our government. This
noticeable growth of privatization of public services has generated lots of discussions and debates
among many scholars and left many of asking the questions.
In this paper, I will define privatization and explore different published articles that discuss

Life Is AAvoidance Of Life
Regardless how hard we try to escape the difficulties of life, life is never easy. For instance, when a
parent s expectation becomes too much for their child to handle, their child will be conflicted with
these expectations and will feel like a disappointment. In the book, Into the Wild by Jon Krakauer, a
young man named Chris McCandless escapes society and his family s problems by deciding to live
life on the road. McCandless came from a well off family and had a natural talent for everything he
did, but he had a bad relationship with his father due to his father being unfaithful to his mother.
McCandless s relationship with his father was the problem that drove him to live life on the road. To
McCandless and Krakauer life on the road meant going into the wild, therefore life on the road can be
defined as going into the wild. Although life on the road allows people to find themselves, it is nothing
more than an avoidance of life s problems. Many young people carry out activities they enjoy to
discover or find themselves. Life on the road brought peace to McCandless. McCandless went on the
road in his early twenties. McCandless decided, after exploring in the west of the U.S, to go on an
Alaska odyssey where he would eventually die of starvation. One of his last acts before McCandless
lost his life was taking a picture of himself, But if he pitied himself in those last difficult hours
because he was so young, because he was alone, because his body had betrayed him and

Anthropocentrism And Animal Rights Essay
Outside of secular views about animal rights, two Christian oriented views exist on the subject. The
first is anthropocentrism. The simple definition of the term is man centered (Cairns 29). Adherents of
this view see creation as valuable only if it serves a utilitarian purpose for humanity (Linzey 16).
Humans are seen to be the only creatures who receive direct divine and moral concern, thus making
them superior to any animal (Green 69). Furthermore, the view denies that animals have any rights at
all (Geisler 356 57). Several arguments are made to support this point, such as the fact that animals are
not persons and that humanity is a steward of God s creation, though this does not mean animals have
rights (Linzey 75 77; 86 89). The second Christian oriented view of animal rights is non
anthropocentrism. As the term suggests, the view is the complete opposite of anthropocentrism. Rather
than see humanity as the most significant creature in the universe, non anthropocentrism sees it as a
neighbor to animals because all who share with us the divine spark of conscious life, given by God at
creation, are our neighbors (Phelps 42). Many claims are made to support this premise. ... Show more

No matter what is under consideration, all creation has independent worth and irreducible value
(Geisler 345). Theologically, since God provides for all creation, this means that it all possesses
intrinsic value (Linzey 8 9). Second, the view asserts that animals have souls (Phelps 57). Allegedly,
Genesis chapters one and two indicate that humans and animals have the same life force and divine
breath (58 61; Gen. 1:24; 2:7, 19). Furthermore, it is suspected that Isaiah recorded the presence of
animals in heaven (63; Is. 11:6 9). Therefore, non anthropocentrism claims, animals have souls and

Persuasive Essay On Gay Rights
Everyday people have to walk around being criticized because of the type of person they are and they

person shouldn t have to be frightened to use the bathroom because they are transgender it was their
option and change in life they shouldn t have to carry that burden on them. Lesbians, gays, bisexuals,

CNN. This new bill was gratified on March 24th and has put a tremendous amount of pressure on
Transgenders since now they feel uncomfortable and unsafe using the bathroom due to their gender
identity. In the article Sorto speaks of Emily Waggoner, who is a transgender herself that has created a

Although this map is helping many in the community it is exceedingly despairing that one must use a

of the New House Bill. Additionally, many can agree that the bathroom law is ridiculous and it simply
isn t fixing anything, it only ridicules and derides trans people and someone who can agree with this is
Samantha Bee. In the article Samantha Bee Blasts North Carolina s Transphobic Bathroom Law it
talks about the opinion of Samantha Bee and her thoughts on the bathroom law and I would hope
many people agree with her opinion. She states Thanks to you, North Carolina citizens can now

Effective Time Management
Effective Time Management The Foundation of Success Upon returning to college, the mature student
(any student over the age of 24) soon realizes that their ability to manage time effectively directly

Adults with families will readily agree that their family alone places serious demands on their time.

  • 2. Congenital Heart Disease Research Paper Congenital Heart Disease A little girl by the name of Jaelyn was born with congenital heart disease (CHD). Jaelyn s parents learned about her condition called Ebstein s Anomaly during a fetal echocardiogram when her mother was only 30 weeks pregnant. The doctors and nurses at Cardinal Glennon Children s Hospital monitored Jaelyn in utero to watch for hydrops (heart failure) and other indications her heart disease was affecting her growth. Jaelyn went into heart failure just five weeks later when her mother was only 35 weeks pregnant. She was given a 5% chance of survival due to the severity of her defect. The family was also told Jaelyn would not survive past her first birthday; she turns five in March. When Jaelyn was born, her entire family was afraid she wouldn t survive the delivery, but thankfully, Jaelyn s story is a true miracle. When the doctors see Jaelyn during routine checkups and physician visits, they can t believe she has Ebstein s Anomaly because for how far she has come and how healthy she looks. Sadly, not every child with congenital heart disease gets the miracle Jaelyn has been given. Congenital heart disease has many causes that impact the child and ... • 3. Using Different Types Of Questions For Tests Essay Often heavily debated on, specifically in an educational setting, is the technique and style in which students are tested. Whether it be multiple choice, true or false, or short answer responses, test takers may respond differently due to certain correlations between the way they are tested, and the way they learn and take tests in general. Using different types of questions for tests has each of their own benefits, as well as drawbacks. Test format, in addition to a student s age, major and mood, can lead to inaccurate test results which may correlate with improper test formatting. Multiple choice responses provide the student with several relatable choices, one being correct. Students then have a 25% chance of selecting the right response, along with the ability to narrow down the answers. Providing the answer and other comparably subjected answers presented with the question may stimulate the individual s memory as well. In terms of short answer responses, the individual is forced to recall all components of the experiment. Conversely, in true/false responses, students have a 50% chance of getting the answer correct and are able to make a more precise decision. We predict that true and false responses will yield a higher result than both short answer and multiple choice results. The Power of Negative of Multiple Choice Testing, performed by Roediger III and Marsh, they found that learning was interfered by using a multiple choice format. Also having the test be multiple ... • 5. Symbolism in The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne Essay Symbolism enhances the meaning of even a simple painting. It is when a person looks at the images in the painting and tries to understand why the painter made those images while another person looks at it and just calls it dumb without even trying to understand it. The latter person completely loses faith in the painting and misses the actual point. When people first read The Scarlet Letter, they notice not only the characters, but also the objects, which may be non living, but carry tons of meaning. They no longer view everything as random occurring objects in our daily lives or as a mere coincidence, but try to find the specific reasons of them occurring in the story. All sorts of questions rose in mind: Why did Hawthorne use the red ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Pearl s presence gives Hester a reason to live and augments her spirits whenever she loses hope. Pearl, just like the literal meaning of her name, is really precious to her mother and represents the passion and spirit the sin provoked in Hester. The Meteor The meteor also plays a vital role in The Scarlet Letter. In Chapter 12, when the meteor makes the letter A in the sky, it is a reminder of the same sin made by Hester to Dimmesdale. It implies that the letter A should also be worn by Dimmesdale. But the rest of the society interprets the meteor differently. They think it stands for Angel denoting the entry of the Governor into heaven. The Red Color While red personifies Hester s passion as well as hope and love. For example, the red letter, the red rose bush and Pearl s red dress. Just like Hester doesn t fit in the Puritan society, the wild rose bush outside prison doesn t fit in the place it grows. The red light shining through the room when sunlight passes through the red window symbolizes how Hester s passion is spreading among the society. The Black Color Hawthorne uses black to symbolize evil, the worst of someone and the darkness that conceals the truth. Hester describes the prison as the black flower of the civilized society , Pearl s eyes as small black mirrors and Satan as The Black Man in the forest. The Gold Color The way the letter was ... An economic system is slackly defined as country s plan for its services, goods produced, and the exact way in which its economic plan is carried out. There are three types of economic systems exist, they are command economy, market economy, and mixed economy. Command economy is also sometimes called planned economy. The expectations of this type of economy is that all major decisions that related to the construction or production, distribution, commodity and service prices are all made by the government. Market leads to complete effectiveness bringing about the best possible distribution of a country s resources in a perfect world. This would only happen in a state of equilibrium and there is a unique price for every commodity. But in a realistic world which is imperfect by nature, prices are never at equilibrium and very unstable depending upon the vagaries of the market forces. This generally harms people living below the poverty line. It is impossible for them to pay high prices in cases of demand shortage. Thus, the free market model is not a viable option in developing countries which has a large number of poor. Besides, producers are aim to minimize profit and maximize rent of production. Examples of countries that are using this economy system are Hong Kong, USA, and UK. Many developing countries like India and China are moving towards totally free market economy. The command economy is government directed. The market forces have very little say in such an economy. There is no private property. On the other hand, a command economy aims at using all available resources for developing either in advertising or marketing. • 7. The Hr Issues Related On The Migration Failure Essay In order to understand the HR issues involved in HPs migration failure, I started by looking at the company s corporate culture from origins to date. I needed to determine what had changed as Hewlett Packard already had numerous successful implementations previously given their vast experience in the computer industry and there long established relationship with software provider SAP. The current study identified that the founders of HP, Bill Hewlett Dave Packard created an effective management style which contained a set of values that defined how they wanted the company and its workforce to perform. This was known as the HP way . The main emphasis was on innovation through creating new quality products that added value to their customers requirements and secondly to create a supportive corporate culture as HPs employees where seen as the company s biggest resource who together their capabilities accomplished something for the greater good of the organisation. HPs employees where seen as the company s biggest asset and in turn they were given the opportunity to share in the company s success through profit sharing plans, they were given tuition to upskill, and the company offered flexi time and job sharing programs to its employees. Having researched the concept of the HP way I have discovered that many companies have also adopted this approach into their own business practices the following points are my understanding of Hewlett Packard s core values ... • 8. Analysis Of `` For Colored Girls `` By Ntozake Shange For Colored Girls involves seven women who represents a different shade of the rainbow. The colors are brown, red, yellow, white, green, orange and blue. Their costumes and make up transformed each of them and were significant of the color their character embodied. As a group their acting made all of their roles of equal importance, without one dominating the other. These women together formed a bond through their various adversities, gradually taking them from strangers to companion. From an objective view, the audience is allowed to simply observe the events as they take place chronologically. Throughout the movie during some of the conflicting and traumatic scenes, one of the women recites a poem to signify and release the emotion being felt at that time. Tyler Perry s movie For Colored Girls was inspired by a stage play For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow is Enuf, written by Ntozake Shange s. The story was adapted from a play that consists of monologues, which combines dance and poetry. Gates highlights that For colored girls is a film that makes a strong message of empowerment to the humanity of women. • 9. Pop Art And The Art Throughout the vast history of art, there have been many art movements that stand out and revolutionize the art world. However, one movement stands out in particular and it is known as Pop Art. Pop Art was invented by a few younger artists by the name of Andy Warhol, Claes Oldenburg, and Roy Lichtenstein. It was brought about in the 1960s and it helped define a new form of American Realism. Its origin was sort of a lash out against Abstract Expressionism, which was a style of painting. The point of pop art was to represent life as most Americans lived it. It pointed out the simple things that Americans find themselves caught up in in everyday life. Pop Art represented a world focused around popular culture, which is basically what is hot in America at the time. Pop Art brought about the reality that America revolved around the culture of things like Wall Street Finance and Madison Avenue Advertising. It sort of presented the thought that maybe Americans weren t so hard to get through to or to understand. Pop Art revealed the pop culture in America and made beautiful art in return. It helped turn the page in the art world that was leaving traditional media, like painting, in the wind. Although there were many great artists to work with Pop Art like Claes Oldenburg and Roy Lichtenstein, one that particularly stands out is Andy Warhol. Born in August of 1928 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Warhol was not among the most fortunate. Throughout his young life, Andy Warhol lived in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Wildlife Biologists study the physical and behavioral characteristics of wildlife, as well as human actions on animals and their ecosystem. The duties of a wildlife biologist range anywhere from writing a report to collecting data by experimenting and observing. For instance, a wildlife biologist may have to collect data from observing animal reproduction, interaction between species, and movement patterns. Other times, wildlife biologists will spend time indoors writing papers that explain the data they collected, giving presentations, and doing pre experiment research. The current demand for wildlife biologists isn t high, but in the future the demand will increase due to human trends which include pollution, habitat destruction, and climate change. Although more biologists will be needed in the future to study human impact on wildlife, the job employment is only expected to increase by four percent (which is slower than usual) by 2024. The term wildlife refers to birds, whales, gorillas, jaguars, rhinos, sharks, etc.. Like aforesaid, a wildlife biologist typically specializes in one of these animal categories. However, choice may be limited based on location. Coast states such as Florida, Texas, California, Alaska, Hawaii and others tend to offer many jobs in marine biology. Other landlocked states may have jobs that focus on land wildlife. Generally speaking, this career is available worldwide (including the Galveston area), therefore it wouldn t be absolutely necessary to relocate. Wireless Technologies Wireless Technologies Introduction As wireless technology has begun to mature, the demand for wireless products has increased as new applications for the technology are realized. One application for wireless technology at the U.S. Naval Academy is to use the wireless capability to enhance classroom instruction. Currently the Electrical Engineering and Physics Departments have wireless access points and wireless laptops/desktops available for classroom instruction. Current USNA Uses The Electrical Engineering Department currently uses the Dell suite with a wireless access point and 24 wireless laptops. They use the wireless network for in class projects where the use of either simulation (OPNET) or design software (PSPICE) is being taught and used. The Physics department is using a LinkSys 802.11b wireless access point and LinkSys wireless NIC cards with desktop computers. Their primary use is for internet access. Recommendation The best technology system for the Naval Academy would be the 802.11a standard. It has 54 Mbps throughput capability as well as adequate range, sufficient for classroom use. Since the 54 Mbps is shared amongst all users, it would allow, at a minimum, 2 Mbps for each user in a class of 20 midshipmen operating simultaneously. • 13. Sinister Games on a Dark Mountain It was the darkest night of the year and the winter winds had finally arrived, biting into the skin of the traveler as he pushed onward through the forbidding forest. The villagers had warned him against venturing into the woods after sunset; they pleaded, saying that people had gone into the forest and had never been seen again. But he had a deadline to meet. The traveler was carrying a letter for the magistrate of the county beyond the mountains, a message warning of an impending attack from the south. The traveler had to get to the county before dawn or all would be lost, so he hurried deeper into the unfriendly wilderness. He paused, leaning against an ancient oak to catch his breath. Crack! The traveler s heart froze in his chest. He looked around wildly, searching for the source of this sound. He was about to call out to determine if the noise had been caused by a person, but the words died in his throat as he heard laughter. The laughter sounded like that of a child but there was something off about it. There was a cruel twinge to the laughter, almost as if it was mocking him. The laughter subsided and was replaced by the sound of something scratching against wood. The scratching noise sounded almost metallic, as if it were made by a knife or a sword. Khafre Enthroned(Fig 1) and Justinian as world conqueror(Fig 2) are two examples of how they were represented during their time as leaders. Even though they are from two different time periods, the former being Egyptian and the latter Byzantine, they are both successful at displaying how artists and the people at their time period respectfully portrayed their rulers. Several stylistic characteristics of the Egyptian time period can be found on Khafre Enthroned. I decided almost as an experiment to refine my eating habits, start exercising on a regular basis, cut back on drinking alcohol and to get at least 7 hours of sleep every night. I wanted to see if it made any impact on how I felt both mentally and physically. After maintaining these new habits for a couple of months I realized how much happier, calmer and healthier I felt. I also noticed that I personally respond positively to having a schedule that I follow everyday. In the beginning the whole process of changing how I lived was not simple, however eventually I felt amazing. Four years later and I am still seeing the positive aftereffects of living this way and have made even more positive adjustments due to how incredible it makes me feel. • 16. Taking a Look at Eurasian Milfoil Invasive species are organisms that harm a new environment that they are not native to. Many invasive species like Eurasian milfoil are easily able to reproduce and can do so fast. Due to this, the limited space in a body of water or area of land is quickly taken over by the invasive species so other native plants face the risk of death or even extinction. Overall, these invasive species can do great harm to an ecosystem or an economy, causing problems that are destructive to numerous organisms. Eurasian milfoil or Myriophyllum spicatum is an aquatic invasive plant that can be found throughout the Chicagoland area and in surrounding bodies of water. This plant can be a hinderance to swimming, boating, and fishing because of their thick, tangled stems and mats of vegetation. According to the Minnesota Sea Grant, Eurasian milfoil also overcrowd a body of water which leaves little room for the plants native to the Great Lakes. One prediction is that if the Eurasian milfoil is not stopped, a reduction of biodiversity may result in Chicago and the areas surrounding it. If this was to occur, the ecosystems of the Midwest region would be significantly impacted in a negative way. As reported by the USDA (United States Department of Agriculture), Eurasian milfoil, which is native to Europe, Asia, and Northern Africa, was most likely accidentally introduced to the United States through ballast water, which is water from other places that is dumped into another body of water to aid in ... Through various methods, advocates of such causes garnered support and brought attention to perceived problems in the status of various peoples. Poetry was one of these methods, but the specifics of its implementation, from appeals to literary devices, varied. Washing Day by Anna Lutita Barbauld used emotions and imagery to support women s rights, but The Negro s Complaint, an abolitionist poem by Cowper, focused on ethics to sway its readers. The narrator describes the women s apprehension of their husbands coming with more demands such as sewing their stockings to accomplish this (Barbauld 33 40). With these descriptions, Barbauld paints the men as one of the causes of the wives sadness. In the later stanzas of the poem, the narrator switches to her own perspective as a child watching the women go through the motions of washing day. Her naivety and ignorance strengthen Barbauld s emotional appeal by providing a contrast to earlier descriptions of the wives view, but this perspective s odd similarity to the men s own makes the strongest impact on the reader. As the women worked, the narrator sought affection and food as she would on any other day; she didn t understand why her mother and the other women brushed her aside in favor of working (Barbauld 58 65). Since she was a child, to her, the day was the same as any other. As she listened to her mother urge haste in the chores, she wondered as to the purpose of washing day (Barbauld 74 79). The ending lines capture the purpose of these stanzas: The sports of children and the toils of men/ Earth, air, and sky, and ocean, hath its bubbles/ And verse is one of them this most of all (Barbauld 84 86). Per these lines, everything from the works of men to the play of children seems to have value, but the labor of women doesn t in the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Betty has conceived naturally, however, she is in her 40 s and is concerned about the risks her child faces due to her age. There are many risks associated with parental age; including the increased likelihood of being pregnant with multiples, high blood pressure, hypertension and gestational diabetes. Consequently, these risks can cause the premature delivery of a baby with a low birth weight (The American College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists 2015; March of Dimes 2017; Evidence Based Birth 2017). Women aged 40 are also susceptible to have a 51% chance of a spontaneous miscarriage and are two and a half times as likely to have a stillborn baby (Birth Injury Justice.org 2017); compared to a 22 year old with 8.7% (Birth Injury Justice.org 2017; Evidence Based Birth 2017). The miscarriage rates are higher in older women as they occur within the half of the first trimester due to genetic problems including Down syndrome; as 1 in 53 at the age of 40 have a baby with a genetic disorder, compared to 1 in 1064 at 25 (Evidence Based Birth 2017). The increased risk of Down syndrome in 40 year old women is believed to be caused by errors which can crop up in the eggs genetic material as they age (Down Syndrome Screening: A One parent test for a Two parent; The Atlantic 2017). • 33. Anthropocentrism And Animal Rights Essay Outside of secular views about animal rights, two Christian oriented views exist on the subject. The first is anthropocentrism. The simple definition of the term is man centered (Cairns 29). Adherents of this view see creation as valuable only if it serves a utilitarian purpose for humanity (Linzey 16). Humans are seen to be the only creatures who receive direct divine and moral concern, thus making them superior to any animal (Green 69). Furthermore, the view denies that animals have any rights at all (Geisler 356 57). Several arguments are made to support this point, such as the fact that animals are not persons and that humanity is a steward of God s creation, though this does not mean animals have rights (Linzey 75 77; 86 89). The second Christian oriented view of animal rights is non anthropocentrism. As the term suggests, the view is the complete opposite of anthropocentrism. Rather than see humanity as the most significant creature in the universe, non anthropocentrism sees it as a neighbor to animals because all who share with us the divine spark of conscious life, given by God at creation, are our neighbors (Phelps 42). Many claims are made to support this premise. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Allegedly, Genesis chapters one and two indicate that humans and animals have the same life force and divine breath (58 61; Gen. 1:24; 2:7, 19). Furthermore, it is suspected that Isaiah recorded the presence of animals in heaven (63; Is. 11:6 9). Therefore, non anthropocentrism claims, animals have souls and will be present in ...
