Storytelling for UX. Why Stories MatterPiotr Bucki
Storytelling is all about telling stories – the most natural way to communicate and understand the world around us. It’s about using narrative to explain the world.
Why tell stories?
Because stories matter and contrary to bare facts they can create engagement and are influencing the relation building process. They can also help you manipulate realty. But that’s what I strongly do not advocate.
We have been using storytelling to share our thoughts and feelings ever since flat screen televisions meant clay tablets and cave walls. Stories move us; they inspire us. And that is why your 110th presentation should not just include data. Because data might persuade people to consider your idea for a while, but it won’t inspire them to act; to do that, you need to drape your vision in a story that makes your audience think: “Hey! I can picture myself in his shoes!” Your story should fire their imagination and make them come alive- because a story has a key to that special place where mundane quantitative data is denied entry: our hearts.
We all love a story; it’s part of what we are as human beings. In fact it’s been said that the original learning technologies were the story and the conversation. But how can we use this natural way of learning for organisational learning? This presentation was part of the Learning and Skills Group webinar series where, Dr. Maureen Murphy, Managing Director at Aurion Learning and and Pat Kenny, eLearning Manager at HSE explored the practical side of developing and using stories for learning.
OLC13 704 From Storytelling to Immersive SimulationDebbie Richards
Storytelling has changed through immersive simulations. Simulations allow the audience to interact with the story instead of just passively taking in the story. They allow the audience to be a part of the story and become the storyteller as well. You’ll discuss the basics of storytelling and how it can be adapted to immersive simulations. You’ll explore storyboard examples, techniques and technology-based tools used to create immersive simulations.

Unleashing Communication: Story-Based Strategies and ToolsHRDQ-U
What’s the quickest way to get at the heart of people’s real needs? When we succeed in crashing through the barriers of people’s rational facades and giving them a safe but invigorating space to discover and articulate their real perceptions based on their experiences, powerful things happen. Work with a new tool for eliciting people’s stories that accelerates learning, insights, and action through meaningful dialogue.
By sharing stories we are better able to express and appreciate our differences. The social network of stories becomes the fabric for meaning to emerge. Think of stories as complex self-organizing systems.
Our differentiated sets of experiences are integrated and tied together by the rich, fluid nature of stories. In this medium of stories, we create the foundation for building a true community of learners. Join Terrence Gargiulo in this interactive webinar as he sheds light on the power of true connection through communication.

This followed the art of presentation zen and summarized all my lessons learned from struggling with public speaking. In the hour, I go through the best practices and practical ways to improve with presenting material more effectively.
It is relatively easy to design learning activities that tick the boxes for quality standards. For example, the links all work; active learning elements are included and so on. However, one question that is often neglected is ‘Will the students actually find this learning activity engaging?’. In his book, ‘Brain Rules’, John Medina lists 12 principles for surviving and thriving at work, home, and school. Rule #4 states that ‘We don’t pay attention to boring things’. Unfortunately, there are many examples of online learning that would be considered boring. This presentation will look at tools and techniques for designing engaging and effective online learning experiences.

Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.

A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.
