Processing may fade the natural colour and foods and beverages may be prepared by combining individual chemical ingredients of both natural and synthetic origin including colour additives.
In foods, colours are added to make the food attractive, to improve the aesthetic qualities of foods, to replace the natural colour destroyed during processing and to ensure batch to batch uniformity in processed foods. Colour also serves as visual indication of quality.
Originally many colour additives are natural pigments. They gave place to synthetic dyes obtained from coaltar. These colours shall be pure and free from harmful substances, so all food colours and colour preparations shall be sold only under BIS certification mark.
The synthetic colours are permitted to be used only in certain foods with declaration on the label. The maximum quantity permitted is 200 mg/kg . Some of the foods in which colour is permitted are ice-cream, biscuits, cakes, sugars, boiled confectionery, sweets and savouries, fruit syrup, fruit squash fruit drink and beverage, soft drink, soft drink concentrate, jam, carbonated water and non- carbonated ready to serve beverages and synthetic syrup.
The pink dye Rhodamine B, Orange RN || and Blue VRS are carcinogenic and causes pathological lesions of vital organs like kidney, spleen and liver. Metanil yellow causes degeneration of reproductive organs, sterility, stomach trouble and cancer. Hence, these dyes are prohibited .

Artificial sweeteners like aspartame, saccharin, sucralose and others are harmful chemicals that should not be consumed. They are synthesized in labs for sweetness but have no nutritional value. Numerous health issues are linked to artificial sweetener consumption including neurological problems, gastrointestinal issues, and various diseases. Physicians are advised to avoid artificial sweeteners and consumer products containing them to protect health. Natural sweeteners like stevia and xylitol are safer alternatives.

Food is the basic necessity of life. One works hard and earns to satisfy our hunger .But at the end of the day, many of us are not sure of what we eat. We may be eating a dangerous flavors and dyes. Often, we invite diseases rather than good health. The purpose of this article is to detect the presence of food adulterants in some common foods and to create awareness about the artificial tests and dyes. A study of the IR spectra and the optical activitiy of two natural and artificial most common used flavor and colors (Vanilla and Strawberry) were detected. IR spectra of synthetic Vanilla were dominated by specific peaks that attributed to corresponding synthetic pigments (specific spectral band of stretching C=0 ester of aldehydic and ketonic groups in synthetic flavor at1744.87cm-1 with a weak shoulder at1700 cm-1 .And stretching CO of sucrose at (990.49 and 923,70) cm-1.The synthetic Strawberry characterized with specific spectral bands of (C=O stretching at 1634.96 cm-1 in ester and CO stretching of sucrose at 925 cm-1), while these functional groups disappeared in natural. Vanilla and Strawberry extracts. The natural Flavoring extracts posse's levorotatory property; they are optically active, while the synthetic extracts not rotates the plane of polarization of the light which passes through the material, they are said to be; not active optically. The obtained results indicated that, Infrared spectrum and Optical activity could be adapted to detect adulterants added products, and to differentiate between natural and artificial food flavoring extracts.

as a “food, or parts of a food, that provide medical or health benefits, including the
prevention and treatment of disease”.

Japanese encephalitis - Sep 2019 India epidemiology - Is vaccination needed?
1) Japanese encephalitis (JE) is a viral disease spread by mosquitoes that is endemic in many parts of Asia and the Pacific. India reports the highest number of JE cases annually, with an estimated actual number between 15,000-20,000 cases per year.
2) JE vaccination is the most important preventive measure according to WHO and IAP guidelines. The national vaccination program in India recommends routine vaccination with two doses of JE vaccine for children up to 15 years of age in endemic areas.
3) While mosquito and pig control efforts have not proven reliable at controlling JE, vaccination is currently the single most effective public health approach for prevention in India given the disease burden.

Cell Therapy Expansion and Challenges in Autoimmune Disease
There is increasing confidence that cell therapies will soon play a role in the treatment of autoimmune disorders, but the extent of this impact remains to be seen. Early readouts on autologous CAR-Ts in lupus are encouraging, but manufacturing and cost limitations are likely to restrict access to highly refractory patients. Allogeneic CAR-Ts have the potential to broaden access to earlier lines of treatment due to their inherent cost benefits, however they will need to demonstrate comparable or improved efficacy to established modalities.
In addition to infrastructure and capacity constraints, CAR-Ts face a very different risk-benefit dynamic in autoimmune compared to oncology, highlighting the need for tolerable therapies with low adverse event risk. CAR-NK and Treg-based therapies are also being developed in certain autoimmune disorders and may demonstrate favorable safety profiles. Several novel non-cell therapies such as bispecific antibodies, nanobodies, and RNAi drugs, may also offer future alternative competitive solutions with variable value propositions.
Widespread adoption of cell therapies will not only require strong efficacy and safety data, but also adapted pricing and access strategies. At oncology-based price points, CAR-Ts are unlikely to achieve broad market access in autoimmune disorders, with eligible patient populations that are potentially orders of magnitude greater than the number of currently addressable cancer patients. Developers have made strides towards reducing cell therapy COGS while improving manufacturing efficiency, but payors will inevitably restrict access until more sustainable pricing is achieved.
Despite these headwinds, industry leaders and investors remain confident that cell therapies are poised to address significant unmet need in patients suffering from autoimmune disorders. However, the extent of this impact on the treatment landscape remains to be seen, as the industry rapidly approaches an inflection point.
