Peace And Violence By Galtung
As I tried to conceptualize the idea of violence and what it means, physical force such as: assault,
bullying, abuse, rape, murder, war, terrorism, genocide amongst many more came to mind.
However, what is considered violence depends on the social context and the type of violence
described, because as we have learned in class so far, Violenceis Relative. So what really is
violence? There is not an easy explanation of the term without taking into consideration that
violence can not only be physical but also psychological, emotional, and verbal. I believe violence
to be a form of expressed aggression either physical, psychological, emotional, and verbal
showcased by an individual. In the paper we will discuss how violence can be viewed as... Show

depending on intentional violence or not necessarily intentional (Galtung, 1969). In my
understanding, if an act of violence such as hurting a person intentionally it could mean that it is
unacceptable. However, if an act of violence were not necessarily intentional depending on the
social context, it would be acceptable. Direct violence, which serves to physically induced threats
such as killing, bullying, sexual assault, and emotional manipulation could serve as unacceptable
violence since its intentional. The Child Beater by Ai, and Death Warrant by district judge Issac
Parker, are good representations as to how they intentionally use physical violence against a victim
to cause harm. In Child Beater , we read about how the abusive mother uses cruel punishments such
as starvation and viciously beats the child to tears (Ai, 1971). This would be a representation of
direct violence since the mother causes physical threats against the child however, it could also be
structural violence since the child is prevented from an equal access to opportunities such as food
and living conditions. In our western society, our viewpoint of the violence inflicted would be
unacceptable since it the mother is conducting child abuse, something that is seen as illegal. From
personal experience, in many hispanic families for example, their form of cultural violence
includes using different forms of punishments to discipline their children such as spankings. While
forms of punishments such as the ones described in Child Beater are unacceptable, spankings are
a form of violence that is acceptable in many homes. In the reading Death Warrant , the author also
uses direct violence and structural as he verbally implies on the warrant sign that when the suspect
is dead no one will miss him, life will go on

Franklin Roosevelt s New Deal Essay
Roosevelt s New Deal
On July 2, 1932, at the Democratic National Convention, the crowd listened intently to the
phrase, I pledge you, I pledge myself to a new deal for the American people. The New Deal name
was soon applied to the program of reform and recovery instituted by Franklin Delano Roosevelt.
During the early part of the Great Depression, the economy had ground to a halt as a result of the
stock market crashing and the unemployment rates skyrocketed as businesses shut down. Only a
very small portion of the population actually held stock. The cause of the Great Depression was
really a result of shallow economical prosperity. Most of the farmers and other industries struggled
in the 1920 s. Low prices, suppressed wages and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This conflict was probably as helpful as it was harmful to the decision making processes needed
for instituting the programs and organizations introduced in the following years. The New Deal
would bring about a new beginning in public welfare by setting up the framework for a welfare
state, which is still in existence today. The New Deal program is usually divided into three periods.
The first phase (1933 34) attempted to provide recovery and relief from the Great Depression
through programs of agricultural and business regulation, inflation, price stabilization, and public
works (New Deal 1993). Fortunately for Roosevelt, the Democratic Party held the majority in
Congress. This allowed Franklin Roosevelt to churn out legislation with almost no resistance. On
his second day in office, FDR called for a special session of Congress which would ultimately
establish numerous emergency organizations, notably the National Recovery Administration
(NRA), which attempted to stabilize prices and wages through cooperation between the
government, business, and labor, the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC), which used
various means to rebuild trust in banking, the Agricultural Adjustment Administration (AAA),
which aided farmers through compensation, the Civilian Conservation Corps, and the Public Works
Administration; both of which employed many people to work on public building

The Quest For Power In Shakespeare s Macbeth
The quest for power has its negative consequences. Gaining power benefits the abuser by giving
them power and control. Depending on how you gain power could define if it s positive or
negative. The world wouldn t be as it is today, if it wasn t for the negative and positive obstacles
we faced. Sometimes, in order to achieve power, abuses occur and people are hurt or taken
advantage of along the way. During imperialism weaker countries were exploited by the
countries on a quest for power and in the story The Tragedy of Macbeth, Lady Macbeth and
Macbeth killed the king to gain total power.(Shakespeare 233) The cost of power sometimes
requires a steep price. Should the U.S. have practiced imperialism? One reason the U.S. practiced
imperialism was because economically they were low, and wanted to imperialize to give them new

The Gateway To Freedom Analysis
The Gateway to Freedom is an enticing novel that gives further knowledge of racial discrimination
and the social inequality of blacks at the time of slavery and how the Underground Railroad
combatted this through the different committees and activists of the time. This essay will focus on
how the Underground Railroad affected family, economy and religion the social institutions, those
who operated the Underground Railroad were diverse and have different reason for following the
abolitionist movement, and not all the committees are made equally. According to Foner, the author
of The Gateway to Freedom, there was a direct correlation between free blacks and fugitive slaves
presence in the antislavery movement. Many people from many backgrounds helped fugitive slaves
and the abolitionist development. There are many different actions abolitionists took to further their
cause; some of the abolitionists were politicians, for example, William H. Seward and Thaddeus
Stevens (19). Those who facilitated the U.R. fought for the abolitionist movement, they helped
using many different means. Whether it dealt with the Underground Railroad directly or indirectly
many abolitionists took part in helping. Some devoted their livelihood and found a job within the
committees, for example being a lawyer or newspaper editor, some people elected their own time
while still holding a job outside of the movement. Referring to the Underground Railroad, David

WWII Compare Contrast Essay
World War II is probably the most famous war to date, but how were the weapons and tactics
first used. Most of the weapons used in WWII were first designed in WWI, in fact that s when the
flamethrower was invented. WWI and WWII have their fair share of similarities, such as the use of
submarines. These similarities are also there differences, such as both wars using subs but WWII
more heavily using them and making more advancements. The time period in between WWI and
WWII was one of the most technologically advancing times in world history.
In WWI, planes were works in progress causing many deaths, but in WWII those weapons were
worked on and made much more reliable and effective. For example, in WWI there was the

A common tactic used in WWI was Infiltration Tactics . This was a much better tactic than the
others. It was done a experienced troops infiltrating enemy territory to surprise the guards then
doing a full fledged assault. This was a good tactic but it was basic. In the same war, there was
trench warfare. Trench warfare was done by opposing army s creating trenches. In between
those trenches was an area known as no man s land and was the most dangerous place to be. This
tactic lead to many standoffs and also extremely high numbers of casualties in a short period of
time. One of the most efficient ways of winning these battles was chemical warfare. All that
needed to happen was to throw a chemical bomb into the enemy s trench and then wait. Another
of the famous tactics was called Blitzkrieg . This was a German tactic first used in Poland with
little success and then used with more success in Belgium later on. What made Blitzkrieg so
successful was how it was done. Blitzkrieg was done by German forces making a concentrated fire
at the enemy scattering their troops. Once the troops were scattered, the Germans were free to pick

Explication of Mary Oliver’s “The Black Snake”
In Mary Oliver s poem The Black Snake, the narrator contemplates the cycle of life with the
unpredictability of death. Mary Oliver s work is known for its natural themes and a continual
affirmation of nature as a place of mystery and spirituality that holds the power to teach humans
how to value one s life and one s place (Riley). In the poem, The Black Snake, the narrator
witnesses a black snake hit by a truck and killed on a road one morning. Feeling sympathy for the
snake, the narrator stops, and removes the dead snake from the road. Noting the snake s beauty, the
narrator carries it from the road to some nearby bushes. Continuing to drive, the narrator reflects on
how the abruptness of death ultimately revealed how the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The truck was the cause of the snake s demise. That is how death happens. The snake symbolizes
death as dark and evil. The second begins with Now, he lies looped and useless (5). Beginning
with when and progressing to now , the poet is suggesting a cause and effect philosophy. The
snake quickly flashed across the road, but after being hit by the truck, lies useless in the road.
The poet has given the snake a male identity. The narrator describes the snake as an old bicycle
tire (6). The poet uses this technique of imagery to portray the now lifeless snake, as an old
rubbery tire tube. The narrator reads I stop the car (7). This conveys that the narrator is an
observer, and telling the story from a third person point of view. The narrator feels some sort of
remorse or sympathy for the snake, removes him from the road, and carries him into the bushes
(8). The poet uses bushes to indicate where the snake is taken to, and hidden or out of sight of the
road. The third stanza describes the snake as cool and gleaming as a braided whip (9 10).
Describing the snake as a braided whip demonstrates the intricate woven pattern of the snake s
scales and the poet s appreciation for nature and its beauty. The snake is not a useless piece of
rubber, but a beautiful and vibrant part of nature. He is as beautiful and quiet as a bead brother (10

Fatherhood Fatherhood
Introduction
Fatherhood is the biggest challenge a man can take on in our society. Any man can become a
father on the virtue of how sex has derived from it natural intentions of reproducing, to a form of
temporary satisfaction or lust. Many men become fathers of a child rather it was their true
intention or an unexpected occurrence following lust. Myself not too long ago was blessed with
the opportunity of becoming a father. God has other plans for me and my girlfriend and now I am
not in a position of fatherhood or the expectancy. For this assignment, I researched and interviewed
four peers of mine that are either fathers or expecting to be fathers. My intentions or this research is
to find the answer to the question: is fatherhood the greatest accomplishment, or worse anxiety of
manhood ?
Process
To answer my question about fatherhood, I interview four peers of mine: two that are new fathers,
and two that are expecting to be fathers. The two men who are expected fathers are my cousin
Spencer, and his teammate in Oregon, Nick. Ironically, they are both 21 year old college
basketball players whose significant others, will be giving birth during the process of the
basketball season. The question I asked them are as followed: what are your feelings about
becoming a father , how have you been involved in your wife s or girlfriends pregnancy , what part
will you play in your child s birth , what part would you like to play , what do you think being a
good father

Ethics And Ethics Of Business Ethics
In 2001, Enron a Houston based commodities energy and service corporation kept huge debts off
the balance sheets. This resulted in shareholders losing $74 billion, thousands of employees and
investors losing their retirement accounts and many employees lost their jobs (Accounting
Degree.org, 2015). Crane and Matten (2010) argue After all, despite many years of business ethics
being researched and taught in colleges and universities, ethics problems persist and the public
remains sceptical of the ethics of business . The big problem we face is that ethical standards are
declining because of insider trading of stocks and bonds, bribery, falsifying documents, deceptive
advertising, defective products, employee theft and questionable activities (Ferrell, Fraedrich, and
Ferrell, 2001). So why, do businesses continue to make these unethical decision when we
universities teach ethics? In this essay we will discuss what ethics is, why people have trouble
making ethical decisions, why should we teach ethics and why the public still remain sceptical
about business ethics.
What is ethics?
Ethics is defined by Oxforddictionaries.com (2015) as moral principles that govern a person s
behaviour or the conducting of an activity. There is no such thing as an ethic when we are born.
We are taught ethical behaviours by our parents at a young age through religion, household values
and the environment around us. As we learn and grow our morals and ethics change and we learn
that there is no

Hierarchical methods: In the hierarchical method the aim is to group data objects into a hierarchical
tree of clusters. Hierarchical clustering methods can be further classified as either agglomerative or
divisive, where the hierarchical decomposition is formed in a bottom up(merging) or top
down(splitting) fashion respectively.

Why A Company Can Go Through Social Media
Many reasons why a company can go through so many changes throughout the years are due to the
change of the market. With industries such as publishing, the changes can become endless.
Publishers try and find ways to get their ideas out into such a market for consumers to enjoy.
Publishing companies started out small however as time continued so did the demand in products.
The demand grew so much that the markets became so big so fast. Pushing for an idea that

Marketing and publishing can continue to date back together when trying to promote ideas. The
marketer had to find someone to enjoy the ideas that the publisher wanted to promote. The early
changes and develops of publishing are some of the only changes that continued to grow into todays
markets
Using your brain is something we all do day in and day out. This is a normal way of thinking
about how we see the world. We tend to use what we see around us as reminders of what we
want, or need to do. When publishers go about publishing a new book or new product they try
and find someone who can use the information they are providing. Whether it is a true story or
something strictly made up. We as humans have tendencies to use what we read and hear to
promote some sort of desire we want. We can have many different ways of explaining what we see
and what we gain. One of the best examples is from a Derren Browns subliminal advertising . This
is an actual video that shows two well known advertisers from the from MBA firm being had by
what they already knew. It explains how what we as humans see just driving down the street can
have the biggest impact on what we draw. The two men were asked to draw an idea for a new
poster for something they had never heard of. However when they were done the man showed
them what he thought they would of drawn and it was almost identical. You ask why is this? Well
marketing is designed to weave such patterns and designs into

Anyone Lived In A Pretty How Town Essay
In his poem, anyone lived in a pretty how town, E. E. Cummings describes the life lived by the
average joe, symbolized by protagonist anyone, in the average pretty how town setting.
Cummings asserts that children will be born and raised to all be the same, with no individuality,
then grow into busy adults who cared for anyone not at all, and perhaps one day get married, live
their lives, and die, still with nevers, or an unfulfilled bucket list. It is through the use of repetition,
foreshadowing, and figurative language that Cummings conveys a mood of sad inevitability as he
explains how this lifestyle repeats itself in cycles and how death will come to everyone, all while
they live their lives in a society that might be pretty, but which lacks any real sense of community
and individuality. Cummings uses repetition to point out how life goes on, and how each
generation repeats a cycle. For instance, throughout the poem, Cummings repeats the names... Show

For instance, Cummings writes that the Women and men (both little and small) who cared for
anyone not at all, sowed their isn t and reaped their same. Both little and small is a metonymy for
all people, which Cummings uses to explain the first problem with the setting, which is how all
the people in it apparently don t care for anyone, except for maybe themselves. Cummings then
uses an extended metaphor to discuss the second problem. Sowed their isn t is a metaphor for the
people raising children, and reaped their same refers to how these children have all been raised to
conform to society so that they all end up the same. So in the end, the setting of Cummings poem is
a town that might look pretty on the surface, but lacks a caring community and stifles creativity with

Introduction
Cold tolerant fish have the ability to survive in freezing waters that would kill many other
animals, due to them lowering the freezing point of water inside their bodies. This is due to the
colligative property of freezing point depression, a process in which adding a solute to a solvent
lowers the freezing point of the solvent. A colligative property is a physical property that depends
on the amount of solute in the solution, rather than the nature of the chemical structure. The overall

Firstly, the two sisters life experiences are different in terms of and because of their personality. In
the first part of the poem, the sister who lives in China was submissive and made a choice to stay
in China. The daughters were grateful and they never left home . However, it is later revealed that
for the daughters living in China, to move freely was a luxury stolen from them at birth . It
literally meant that women in China were unable to walk about easily in shoes the size of teacups .
It also figuratively meant that women did not have the freedom to do what they like. This shows

Instead of living in China and living with the strict Chinese tradition, she decides to leave China
for America, to experience a lifestyle supposedly different from her sister as well as most

suggested that she wanted to start anew, and live a new life, while jade green refers to her
China blood, and blue of the Pacific refers to America, and possibly the western culture. This
shows that she defied the norms of the Chinese culture, and left home to move freely about. The
poet uses words like rising , swarmed , inundate and stride which suggests how she could be
active and free to move around, as compared to her sister in China, who did not have the
privilege of being able to move around as she wants. Also, the sister living in America could stride
along with men on the roads . The sister living in China on the other hand could only stay at home.

Making An Initial Visit After Receiving A Referral Within...
Summary The aim of this session was to introduce us to the process of making an initial visit
after receiving a referral within the role of a social worker. This was done with a small group
exercise involving role play. We were placed into groups of four and once in our groups we had
to divide ourselves into roles. There were three roles consisting of Service user, Social worker
and observer. We were then taken to one side with people from other groups whom had be given
the same role as ourselves and briefed on what it was we had to do. I was given the role of social
worker, therefore i was told that I had to plan and undertake an initial visit and given the receipt
of a referral. The referral consisted of concerns regarding a young boy, Max aged 2. The referral
was made by the child s nursery. They had concerns about his behavior and presentation, for
example, Max is often very tired, wears the same clothes for a number of consecutive days, is
greedy when given food and aggressive towards his peers. Alongside this, questions regarding
his mother, sally, were also raised. When staff at the nursery had spoken to her she seemed to
show littler concern regarding her son s behavior, she often smells strongly of alcohol and bruises
have been seen on her face. It was therefore my responsibility to take this information from this
receipt of referral on board before then undertaking my role within the role play of a social worker

Pricing Strategy A Pricing Dilemma Why is the price of a 1 year INSEAD MBA ВЈ49,000 while
the price of a higher ranked 2 year London Business School MBA is ВЈ57,000? vs. Kunal S. Shah,
MBA 2012 April 6, 2012 Introduction The MBA program was introduced for the first time in
the United States in the early 20 th Century and was modeled on the basis of the prevalent 2 year
graduate programs. It gained significant traction after its inception, however was later criticized
for its lack of practical relevance. It was often said that MBA was too academic, too theoretical

However, given the theory of economies of scale, we can assume that INSEAD s costs per year
related to students are approximately 1.5 than that of LBS. Specifically, we could adjust Staff costs
, External Teaching Costs and Programme catering and accommodation by this factor. Total
adjustment: based on these two changes results shows that INSEAD incurs additional expense of
ВЈ58 m. However, due to the larger class size, this cost gets spread across a larger student base.
As a result, when LBS s total cost is normalized to assume the same student volume as that of
INSEAD, LBS s total adjusted cost can be estimated to be ВЈ77 m or 42% greater than that of
INSEAD. In summary, the lower price per year at LBS cannot be explained due to potential
differences in cost, as the adjusted cost of offering the MBA program at LBS is an estimated
42% greater than that offered at INSEAD. The Role of Consumer Behavior As discussed above,
given costs cannot explain the variance in price, another explanation to this dilemma could be
found on the consumer or demand side. More specifically, the willingness to pay for an MBA
degree, whether 1 or 2 years maybe a certain level that the potential market may not be willing to

Global Positioning Systems And Its Effect On The Way We...
Global positioning systems have made enormous changes in the way we travel and now this same
technology is making great strides in helping individuals manage their type 2 diabetes. The d Nav
is an innovative device created by Hygieia that automatically maps out a patient s insulin treatment
by charting his or her glucose readings. The creators term the device a Diabetes Insulin Guidance
System (DIGS).
Eran Bashan is the CEO and co founder of Hygieia, Inc. He states that just like a GPS for a car,
the user tells the device where he or she wants to go and DIGS creates a master plan, adjusting the
plan according to current blood sugar levels. Bashan continues stating that the benefit of a global

United Kingdom Study Finds d Nav Effective in Dropping Average Blood Glucose Levels
According to a previous study conducted by the South Eastern Health and Social Care Trust in the
United Kingdom, which is part of the country s National Health Service, patients who used the d
Nav service had a substantial decrease in their average blood sugar levels (HbA1c); furthermore,
there was a significant reduction in the costs associated with diabetic care during the 12 months of
the study.
Ann Baker is Blue Cross/Blue Shield s vice president of wellness and care management: She
states that BC/BS evaluated the data from the United Kingdom study and they are eager to explore
the potential d Nav has in reference to patient care and cost reductions for their members in
Michigan who have type 2 diabetes. Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Michigan is the first health plan

The World Of The Arab Emirates
Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, is
planning a new megaproject, The Mall of the World. This project will be located in Al Sufouh,
Dubai, which is one of the seven emirates that compose the United Arab Emirates. The United Arab
Emirates is located in the eastern end of the Arabian Peninsula. It also extends part of the Gulf of
Oman and the Persian Gulf on its southern coast. This positioned the country to have bordering
countries such as Saudi Arabia to the southwest, Qatar and Iran in the north, and Oman in the east.
This enhances the United Arab Emiratestrading with neighboring countries which led to a positive
effect on the economy. Yet, the sandy and barren city strives to improve their economic standing
each and every day. With a population of 9.2 million, the country continues to grow and expand to
further their reputation as one of the richest country in the world. One of the most important part
of the United Arab Emirates history is their federation being formed in 1971. Specifically, this
federation had a huge effect on Dubai. In Dubai becoming part of the seven emirates, there was an
increased influence on the city s development and growth. Even as the city saw an influx in
immigrants fleeing from the Lebanese civil war in December 1971, Dubai together with Abu
Dhabi, the capital, and 5 other emirates, formed the United Arab Emirates after the formal protector
of Britain left the Persian Gulf. The country s

At the beginning of the book Adam questioned what he wanted to do for the rest of his life, this
is something I ask myself on a daily basis. That led to him joining a program called Semester at

riskier, it led to the boat almost sinking and complete chaos. At first Adam believe that he would

Who Was The Captain Of Industry During The Industrial...

Think about how much power that America has today, have you ever thought about who was
responsible? Many people sacrificed many things to grow America to the powerhouse that it is
today, whether it be the illegal selfish acts people used to become rich, the grown men forcing
young children into labor, or the sacrifice of turning the global environment into a future wasteland,
without them we would not be anywhere close to the success we are at today.
The Industrial revolution delivered both wonders and worries to America. Although the Industrial
Revolution turned America into the richest and most successful nation, it also brought hardships
and corruption. The outcomes of the Industrial Revolution were greatly influenced by two groups
of people: The Captains of Industry, and the Robber Barons. The Captains of Industry are the men
responsible for the success of America during the Industrial Revolution. The guys mostly
remembered for their dedication and work for America are, Andrew Carnegie, J.P. Morgan, and
John D Rockefeller. J.P Morgan was a very successful and influential man who made his money
from banking and owning many companies and stocks. He is mostly known for bailing out the
National Government and saving the country from an economic downfall. Andrew Carnegie and
John D Rockefeller could be considered on both sides of the spectrum. They made steel and oil

faces challenges once Britain officially exits the European Union. With the loss of support from
Britain, Germany will be expected to contribute more, which ultimately puts more of an economic
strain on the country. This will force the country to reevaluate the current economic structure and
possibly lead to the redistribution of funds. Germany already makes the largest net contribution to
the EU each year with more than 15 billion in funds. Once Britain leaves the EU this net
contribution is expected to need to increase to 20 billion in funds. Germany s success is
additionally seen in other measures such as life expectancy, education, healthcare, and immigration.
Germany s population sports high longevity and a well educated workforce. Germany continually
receives record numbers of immigrants which is often an indicator of a strong economic market and
a successful country. Germany appears well positioned to handle future economic changes and

Michael Pollen Food Rules Analysis
In Food Rules: An Eater s Manual, journalist and writer Michael Pollen provides a set of simple
rules to answer Americans questions on what we should be eating. Instead of offering an extreme
new diet pill or exercise plan, Pollan gave the humble answer, eat food, not too much, and mostly
plants (Pollan xv). Pollan uses facts as well as humor to combat the foodindustry and unhealthy
eaters. Throughout this manual, he breaks down what really is food and how people can change
small everyday habits to stay healthy.
The most helpful rule Pollan provided in these guidelines is Rule 12, Shop the peripheries of the
supermarket and stay away from the middle (Pollen 27). He says this because the outer walls of
grocery stores contain fresh fruits, vegetables, meat, and dairy. Consequently, the middle isles

changed in the past 20 years. Pollan has remarked in several forums that the food industry is
pushing us further and further away from sit down dinners by making it cheaper and more
convenient to grab something from a drive thru. This convenience factor is why Pollan has also
given us Rule 39: Eat all the junk food you want as long as you cook it yourself (Pollan 85). Not
only is fast food more accessible and affordable but also cakes and other sweets. Pollan suggests
that if we make our own junk food, we will be less likely to make or eat unhealthy

Understanding and defining the impact on the modern Army today by the 442nd Infantry Regiment
during WWII, is evident by their unique formation that stood out amongst organizations during that
period. While trying to compare the differences in social acceptance from a unit composed almost
entirely of Soldiers of Japanese ancestry, you must first understand the period in which this unit left
its legacy. During one of the most controversial times in the history of diplomatic relations, Japan
attacked Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941 without any formal announcement of war. Although the
transmissions from Japan were decoded, the actual declaration of war did not reach the United
States until the following day. Unknown to many Americans that the so called peace talks were
already nearing the end of negotiations, Americans lost trust in the Japanese Americans and
immediately labeled them traitors and rejected them from their communities; this was primarily so
on the west coast. The repercussions of this event in the United States were immediate. According
to the Library of Congress, within a three year period, thousands of Japanese Americans regardless
of their citizenship were required to abandon their homes and businesses and move to isolated war
relocation and internment camps run by the United States government. President Roosevelt signed

Doric, Ionic and Corinthian orders in the amphitheater perfectly exemplify the Greek style in

Moreover, the use of the arch in the Colosseum, depicts that Roman did not limit themselves to post

The Negligence Of The Case Drunk Driving
Unable to open my eyes, waking up trying to identify where I was, pedestrians stared, pointed and

Happened? Where was I? I wept as if the entire world, and all of its beauty, had come to an end.
And in a way, it had. On April 7, 1997 I was thrown from the backseat passenger side of a Nissan

I couldn t recollect exactly what happened until I met with my lawyer who went over the details of

drunk driving was the cause of harm to myself and my family. After this experience I was

Don Quixote de la Mancha by Miguel de Cervantes
Don Quixote
The Ballet performance Don Quixote is based on the worldwide known novel Don Quixote de la
Mancha by Miguel de Cervantes. It was originally performed by the Bolshoi Ballet of Moscow
and choreographed by Marius Petipa in the year of 1869 with the music of Ludwig Minkus. Now
days there are numerous Ballets performing it all over the world. The Miami City Ballet has
adopted this performance as part of their season content, giving the Spanish play a hint of Latin
American taste with several Hispanic dancers. The Ballet of Miami performed this Ballet in the
Fort Lauderdale Performing Art Center on Friday 21 of March, and presented the story of Don
Quixote in three main acts. In the first act is represented a public square in Seville where Basilio,
an impoverished barber young man, flirts with young Kitri who has been determined to marry a
Gamache. Gamache is a rich old toreador and is willing to pay Lorenzo, Kitri s father, for
marrying her. In this act Don Quixote and Sancho Panza arrive to the town and try to protect Kitri
from her father and Gamache. Finally they Kitri and Basilio escape from the town with Don

The Dissimilarity Between Working Mother And Stay Home Mother

The Dissimilarity between Working Mother and stay home Mother During the early years of the
1900 s most women were not allowed to work, they also did not have any rights to vote. All the
women during these times could only stay inside the house and take care of the familial duties
and chores. Women were primarily cooking meals, cleaning inside the house, and also taking care
of their own child. On the other hand, most of the men were kings in the household who were in

during this time period ensured to consume a strong family background because the marriage was
everlasting one. Back in the day, the maximum of divorce rates was very low compared to a
present day, as of now, but how is that the divorce rates are high in the present today? That is
because of the authorization in the 19th Amendment which were giving women right to vote, as
they became more self governing (Harris). Women did not just want to cook, and clean working
as a house wife at home any longer, but however women desired to have a job outside just like
their husband earning all the money and have a nice working life. They wanted to challenge
themselves as they wish to follow their husbands footsteps, to prove that women can also do just

Written On The Banks Of The Arun By William Wordsworth...
The hustle and bustle of modern day prevents people from truly contemplating the meanings of
their life. People nowadays have little time to become one with nature and detach themselves from
technology. Two poets who captured the beauty of connecting with nature are Charlotte Smith and
William Wordsworth. Smith in her piece Written on the Banks of the Arun describes in a cold and
melancholy manner what she experiences near the Arun bank. Meanwhile, Wordsworth in his piece
Lines Composed a Few Miles above Tintern Abbey describes in a peaceful tone his feelings while
sitting near the Banks of the Wye. Both Smith and Wordsworth pieces contain similar underlying
meaning, symbolism, imagery, and setting.
First, the intention of Smith and Wordsworth are to emphasize the beauty of nature and the
pleasantness one feels when secluding themselves in the arms of Mother Nature. The natural
scenery give Smith comfort since she expresses that it allows her to be alone and simply
contemplate life. The bank of Arun in a sense is her safe haven because it permits her with the
calming rise and fall of the waves to also release unwanted thought and welcome new thoughts.
Smith emphasizes her enjoyment of the solitude she experiences when surround by nature.
Similarly, Wordsworth explains that the only thing keeping him sane while enclosed in the busy
city was the memories of the landscape. Nature has transformed his way of thought and has made
him realize that it nature is connected to

Fahrenheit 451 Dystopian Society Essay
Dystopian societies and modern day societies have various opinions on what should be valued.
In the novel Fahrenheit 451, Ray Bradbury shows a dystopian society that contrasts today s
modern day society. The concepts of knowledge and communication are shown throughout the
book in different ways than are seen in today s modern day society. Knowledge is one idea that
has conflicting meanings. The importance of knowledge is demonstrated in different ways
between dystopian society and modern day societies. The topic of lack of knowledge is
presented through the nonsignificance of books. When Montag is speaking with Beatty at the
end of his history of being a fireman, Beatty says, We must all be alike. Not everyone born free
and equal, as the constitution says, but everyone made equal... a book is a loaded gun in the
house next door. Burn it. Take a shot from the weapons. Breach men s mind (Bradbury 100).
Since Montag and his society are not allowed to own book, it shows that knowledge is not as
enforced. Knowledge is a trait valued in modern day society. An example of how education and
knowledge is forced... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The idea of noncommunicating with one another is average through the conversation of Montag
and Mildred. When Mildred talks to Montag she realizes that Montag listens to her talk, when she
says, When I talk, you look at me... The others would never do that (Bradbury 21). Not
communicating with each other is a normal thing to do in their society because it is unusual to have
meaningful conversations. Communication is well cherished in modern day society. Sarah and her
family were at a restraunt and her brother as on his phone the whole time and not engaging with
others, so his dad took away his phone. Communication with others is a key detail, because
communication helps people learns. Communication is a different in modern day societies and

Laughter In The BirdsBy Bergson sThe Birds
Now, using Bergson s theory of laughter to analyze The Birds, it confirms the previously stated
hypothesis, that the play applies as an aspect of Anthropocene laughter. The points made in the
paragraphs above are extremely evident all throughout the text of the play. In The Birds, the two
main characters, Pisthetaerus and Euelpides are fleeing Athens because of its current problematic
status in politics, in search for something better, where they can have a brand new beginning. The
two men sought out a new city, built by the influential birds, that was not tainted by man and his all
too powerful hand. This is already quite similar to that of the Anthropocene, an age of wanting and
needing change in order to survive after being naГЇve to humankind s power of destruction. This is
an example of imitation, something that sparks laughter as stated by Bergson. This telling
statement from The Birds confirms this: Weak mortals, chained to the earth, creatures of clay as
frail as the foliage of the woods, you unfortunate race, whose life is but darkness, as unreal as
shadow, the illusion of a dream, hearken to us, who are immortal beings (75). There is laughter
within this because it reflects aspects of humankind. In order to even understand the comedyin this
play, a degree of intelligence is absolutely necessary. Aristophanes makes little jokes everywhere,
for example that fact that those in power are birds and the names of the main characters. This is
something an ordinary person

Self-Sacrifice In A Political Campaign
There s a lot of methods to consider when working for a politician campaign run, especially when
the position is a campaign manager. It isn t any secret that political campaigns are known for their
dirty tricks and doing what might seem unethical in order to get one step ahead. I believe this is
because of the attitude that gets fostered in this environment that believes the aftermath of election
failure is worse than getting caught for unethical behavior. The nature of campaigns is that they
tend to come out of nowhere and when it s over, they disappear. Aside from releasing financial
records to show what and how much was spent, there isn t much records beyond that. So to be
asked to attend the campaign fundraiser for an opponent in order... Show more content on

As campaign manager I have to weigh the pros and cons of going into this this fundraiser; if I go
perhaps I m acting in the best interest of my superior but where does that leave me? I ve been
told that it s a silent auction so I won t have to give my name out necessarily and but I do run the
risk of someone recognizing me thus optionally landing me in hot water that could ultimately
reflect badly to my leader. Also it s important to remember that I signed an agreement to not attend
any other political events hosted by opposing candidates, not only getting caught will be bad for
my leader but this could ruin any future job I want to apply too. I think campaign as more than
getting someone elected, but as a reflection of myself so it s very vital for me to maintain a good
reputation in order to future my career advancement.
The theory surrounding ethical relativism also brings an interesting perspective. Ethical relativism
is the view that teaches that our ethics evolve over time and change to fit circumstances. It s when
morality and ethics do not always align; someone may consider it morally wrong to get an abortion
but also believe it is unethical for a government to ban clinics to perform

How to Improve Airline Safety and Pilot Training Essay
On February 12, 2009, a Colgan Airlines flight operating as Continental Connection Flight 3407
crashed two miles from the runway in Buffalo, New York, killing all fifty people aboard.. The
National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) investigation that followed stunned the American
public and identified the need to closely examine the regulations governing pilot training and pilot
rest requirements, with a strong focus on regional airlines (Berard, 2010, 2). Currently, the United
States government has passed HR 5900, which was titled the AirlineSafety and Federal Aviation
AdministrationExtension Act of 2010 and is now called Public Law 111 216 (Public Law 111 126,
2010, 3). The bill targets five focal points that will force the Federal... Show more content on

The reason that this came about was the captain of the Colgan accident flight in Buffalo, New
York had failed five checkrides in his life time. This would not normally be a big deal, but he
failed his checkrides because he was not satisfactory in icing procedures...one of the major causes
of the accident according to the NTSB.
Implementation of NTSB Flight Crewmember Training Recommendations The National Traffic
Safety Board (NTSB) is an independent United States government investigative agency responsible
for civil transportation accident investigation. The NTSB investigates all aviation accidents and
incidents. On an annual basis, this bill requires that the FAA accepts all NTSB flight crewmember
training recommendations that come up over the past year (Hughes, 2010). For example, the NTSB
has requested that the FAA include flight in icing conditions into all flight training curriculums.
FAA Rulemaking on Training Programs Prior to this bill, the FAA had no say in what airlines
included in their training programs as long as the program included certain subjects. No later than
fourteen months after the date the bill is signed into law, the FAA will issue a final rule on all
training programs (House Transportation Subcommittee, 2010). This was brought into effect
because Colgan Airlines did not include flight into icing conditions in their flight

Kayak Narrative
Every summer my family spends most of our days at my grandfather, Jiddoo s, beach house on
Minot beach. I ve been going since I was a baby and I always heard stories of my cousins, aunts
and uncles talking about how they kayak around the glades and after hearing so many stories
about it, I didn t have a clear idea of what it meant. By the time I was around 10, I came to realize
it meant kayaking 4.5 miles from the beach, around a peninsula known as The Glades by the
Minot community, or first cliff . As I walked in struggling to lug a heavy cooler into the cottage, a

the kayaks and life vests. 20 year old Kayla is Jimmy Garoppolo obsessed and always has a new

The Life of Josef Mengele What comes to your mind when you think of a doctor? Someone who
takes care of you when you re sick, a friendly person who you aren t scared to see? Well, Josef
Mengele was the exact opposite of that. My research is going to inform you about Josef Mengele s
childhood, activities during the war, and his whereabouts after the war in order to prevent another
man like him from being able to cause so much destruction and devastation.
Josef Mengele wasn t always the murderous Nazi that he was known to be. Born in Gunzburg,

returned to Germany in the January of 1943, where he was deemed unfit for combat. Even though
not on active duty, he was promoted to S.S. captain and started work with Kaiser Wilhelm at the
Institute of Anthropology, Human Genetics, and Eugenics. Soon after being placed there, he was

The Ratio Of A Case
Q1. In any court case the judgement given will contain the reason that a decision has been made,
this is known as the ratio decidendi. The ratio decidendi in a case is the binding part of the
Judge s decision and is to be relied upon in future. In almost all cases the Judge will also make
further comment or explanation as to their decision, this is not always based on current law nor
will it relate to the facts of the case and is usually part of an opinion. These additional comments
that do not form part of the ratio decidendi are know as obiter dictum. The ratio decidendi is the

The Learning Styles Inventory ( Lsi )
In EDCL 5339, Understanding Self, I took the Learning Styles Inventory (LSI). The results showed
that my confirmed strengths are Oppositional, Power, Competitive and Perfectionist. I do not
demonstrate strong Oppositional self. I tend to keep an open mind and am willing to listen to others
opinion. Sometimes, I feel I go along with what others wanteasily. In my close relationships, I am
more opinionated than I am with my colleagues. I would like to develop the ability to be more
analytical and ask tough questions. I think this is an important skill of a leader. As for my lower
Power, Competitive and Perfectionist self, I am content with who I am in those areas. I am a team
player and I work well with individuals. I would not want to change a thing. I am not interested in
controlling or one upping others. I enjoy working with others and celebrating their achievements,
along with mine.
My areas of unrecognized strengths are Humanistic/Encouraging, Affiliate, Conventional and
Achievement. I believe that the biggest issue for me in this area is my tendency to over analyze
my actions and reactions. I do not have full confidence in myself. In the area of Humanistic
/Encouraging, I feel that I have good people skills. I can get along with people well and if there is
an issue, I approach it with tact. Outside of the work place, I believe that I do this well. In the work

movement. There are also nerve cells. These cells are used for carrying messages around the
body so that the body is able to react to things such as pain. When cells are grouped together they
form what is known as a tissue. Different types of tissue make up different types of organs. The 3
main types of tissue are Muscular, Nerve and Epithelial. The muscular tissue is made up of three
forms, they include the skeletal, smooth and cardiac tissues. Skeletal tissue is voluntary which
means that it is used in the movements of the skeletal components. The Nerve tissue is a group of
cells which react to, many different types of stimuli. They transmit messages throughout the body
which can include things such as temperature, pain, and pressure. Epithelial tissue is when cells
that form together create the lining of a surface an example of this would be the skin and muscle

Walgreens diversity issues:
A weakness that was gained subsequent to the information gathered from research and surveys is
that as a company it is true that diversity is practiced but may differ at stores; stores tend to lack a
wide range of diversity. One may ask how that is possible. Let me explain stated Wasson, We
understand that we serve our customer and patient best when our workforce and suppliers reflect
our communities (Walgreens.com/diversity) which may be beneficial on a financial stance by
making customers feel more comfortable which may lead more spending but gives wrong

firm; others stated that improvement will be necessary. Although the fact still stands that
Walgreens manages diversity systematically, issues such as loyalty, dishonesty, and trust in the
workplace still occur and maybe more often than expected.
Recommendations:
Walgreens is one of the companies that manage diversity well, as mentioned before Walgreens is
widely scattering diversity throughout training programs which are delivered at every level. In
such programs Walgreens make emphasis on what is expected from employees in concern
diversity as well as Walgreens obligations with diverse employees. The training programs
endorse cultural awareness to teach employees about others cultures and how to behave with
sensitivity. Walgreens has established comprehensive policies and programs to ensure
compliance with all applicable federal and state labor and employment laws. However,
according to our research and survey, Walgreens is facing a problem in how to practice diversity
in different stores. According to Melvin, Walgreens s diverse customers vary depending in which
area or suburb the store is located. In some stores Walgreens do not really have training diversity
programs. (For instance if a customer were to come from another neighborhood and shop at a

The Merger of the Financial Accounting Standards Board and the International Accounting
Standards Board
The proliferation and evolution of international trading and commerce have not only opened the
gateway to international markets for many of the world s emerging economies, but they have also
fostered an unprecedented growth in the number of multinational corporations. Spurred by trade
agreements such as the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) and the World Trade
Organization (WTO), the rapid expansion of global commerce has revealed many inherent
obstacles and risks within the international financial structure. Disparate political, ethical, economic,
and legal policies have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The IASB and the FASB have both established frameworks for the reporting of financial
information, however, despite their apparent similarities several key differences exist between their
structures. For example, U.S. GAAP has been traditionally defined as being a more rules based
standard, which has established strict guidelines and contingencies for reporting financial
information. Given its history and the recent tumultuous financial environment, particularly the
2008 financial crisis, U.S. GAAP has become a very robust and strictly enforced set of standards.
This has given rise to concerns that some preparers of financial statements may commit accounting
fraud by circumventing or manipulating the rules of U.S. GAAP. Supporters of IFRS argue that
the more detailed the guidance, the greater the opportunity to find the loopholes in the guidance
(Hillman, Heaston, and Dodd 5). Despite these concerns, however, U.S. GAAP continues to be the
preferred standard of most accounting professionals. Conversely, IFRS is a principles based
standard. The principles based approach of IFRS grants management the discretion to use different
accounting methods when preparing financial data. While this practice is praised for its focus on
fair values and the freedoms it provides managers, it is often criticized for being far too subjective
and inviting a human element that could increase the risk of financial

Russian Nesting Dolls, Matryoshka
Russian Nesting Dolls, Matryoshka
Every nation has various forms of representing its people, their believes and culture through their
unique rituals, fascinating customs, and their possessions. All of these representations of culture
behold a specific meaning and unique purpose that has to be passed on to the next generation. The
same can be said about Russian famous Babushka Dolls. Babushka Dolls are also called Russian
Nesting dolls or Matryoshka, which is a famous Russian wooden set of dolls that are designed in a
very specific way, so that the wooden figures of decreasing size could be placed one inside another.
In order to do so, each figure could be taken apart in two halves like plastic Easter eggs. These dolls
are decorated in different styles, but the original way had changed since the first Matryosha was
made in 1890 by Vasily Zvyozdochkin, who is a Russian turning craftsman, and painted by Sergey
Malyutin, who is a Russian painter and a stage designer (Terletski). Nowadays, anyone, mostly
tourists, can purchase Matryoshkas at any craft stores in Russia. However, Russian Nesting Doll
is not just a very popular souvenir, but it is also an interesting representation of our culture
because it is considered to be a very educating toy for children, a remarkable representation of
female beauty, and also a symbol of a family and fertility.

Reflection On Quality Of Service
This summer I worked at Broad Street Ministries. It s a church that s a major staple in their
community and the homeless. They provide drop in shelter services such as mailing, meals at
different times through the week, social services, after school programing, summer camp,
enrichment classes and much more. Their goal is to build a community that fosters a safe,
inclusive, and welcoming environment that provide upscale meals to those less fortunate. My
overall opinion of the operation is that it has great values, provide quality services, and strives for
excellence in all aid provided.
While interning for the past 3 months I had the opportunity to participate in preparing fresh,
quality nutritious meals for their guest. I served in any capacity needed. I washed dishes, swept
and mopped the floor, prepped food and helped cook at time. My main responsibilities were that of
the head pastry chef. I planned and prepared dessert options for 300 guests based on the
ingredients provided. Meals are planned based on the ingredients picked from the church s garden
and donated from local farms and food establishments. I believe this to be one of this organization
s strengths because a lot of focus is put into providing an upscale meal and dining experience to
those less fortunate.
Equally important, throughout my time there, management was inconsistent in their expectations
and direction. The morale of the kitchen staff was low and seemed to really affect the quality of
service. For

  • 2. Peace And Violence By Galtung As I tried to conceptualize the idea of violence and what it means, physical force such as: assault, bullying, abuse, rape, murder, war, terrorism, genocide amongst many more came to mind. However, what is considered violence depends on the social context and the type of violence described, because as we have learned in class so far, Violenceis Relative. So what really is violence? There is not an easy explanation of the term without taking into consideration that violence can not only be physical but also psychological, emotional, and verbal. I believe violence to be a form of expressed aggression either physical, psychological, emotional, and verbal showcased by an individual. In the paper we will discuss how violence can be viewed as... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... depending on intentional violence or not necessarily intentional (Galtung, 1969). In my understanding, if an act of violence such as hurting a person intentionally it could mean that it is unacceptable. However, if an act of violence were not necessarily intentional depending on the social context, it would be acceptable. Direct violence, which serves to physically induced threats such as killing, bullying, sexual assault, and emotional manipulation could serve as unacceptable violence since its intentional. The Child Beater by Ai, and Death Warrant by district judge Issac Parker, are good representations as to how they intentionally use physical violence against a victim to cause harm. In Child Beater , we read about how the abusive mother uses cruel punishments such as starvation and viciously beats the child to tears (Ai, 1971). This would be a representation of direct violence since the mother causes physical threats against the child however, it could also be structural violence since the child is prevented from an equal access to opportunities such as food and living conditions. In our western society, our viewpoint of the violence inflicted would be unacceptable since it the mother is conducting child abuse, something that is seen as illegal. From personal experience, in many hispanic families for example, their form of cultural violence includes using different forms of punishments to discipline their children such as spankings. While forms of punishments such as the ones described in Child Beater are unacceptable, spankings are a form of violence that is acceptable in many homes. In the reading Death Warrant , the author also uses direct violence and structural as he verbally implies on the warrant sign that when the suspect is dead no one will miss him, life will go on ... • 3. Franklin Roosevelt s New Deal Essay Roosevelt s New Deal On July 2, 1932, at the Democratic National Convention, the crowd listened intently to the phrase, I pledge you, I pledge myself to a new deal for the American people. The New Deal name was soon applied to the program of reform and recovery instituted by Franklin Delano Roosevelt. During the early part of the Great Depression, the economy had ground to a halt as a result of the stock market crashing and the unemployment rates skyrocketed as businesses shut down. Only a very small portion of the population actually held stock. The cause of the Great Depression was really a result of shallow economical prosperity. Most of the farmers and other industries struggled in the 1920 s. Low prices, suppressed wages and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This conflict was probably as helpful as it was harmful to the decision making processes needed for instituting the programs and organizations introduced in the following years. The New Deal would bring about a new beginning in public welfare by setting up the framework for a welfare state, which is still in existence today. The New Deal program is usually divided into three periods. The first phase (1933 34) attempted to provide recovery and relief from the Great Depression through programs of agricultural and business regulation, inflation, price stabilization, and public works (New Deal 1993). Fortunately for Roosevelt, the Democratic Party held the majority in Congress. This allowed Franklin Roosevelt to churn out legislation with almost no resistance. On his second day in office, FDR called for a special session of Congress which would ultimately establish numerous emergency organizations, notably the National Recovery Administration (NRA), which attempted to stabilize prices and wages through cooperation between the government, business, and labor, the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC), which used various means to rebuild trust in banking, the Agricultural Adjustment Administration (AAA), which aided farmers through compensation, the Civilian Conservation Corps, and the Public Works Administration; both of which employed many people to work on public building ... • 4. The Quest For Power In Shakespeare s Macbeth The quest for power has its negative consequences. Gaining power benefits the abuser by giving them power and control. Depending on how you gain power could define if it s positive or negative. The world wouldn t be as it is today, if it wasn t for the negative and positive obstacles we faced. Sometimes, in order to achieve power, abuses occur and people are hurt or taken advantage of along the way. During imperialism weaker countries were exploited by the countries on a quest for power and in the story The Tragedy of Macbeth, Lady Macbeth and Macbeth killed the king to gain total power.(Shakespeare 233) The cost of power sometimes requires a steep price. The Gateway To Freedom Analysis The Gateway to Freedom is an enticing novel that gives further knowledge of racial discrimination and the social inequality of blacks at the time of slavery and how the Underground Railroad combatted this through the different committees and activists of the time. This essay will focus on how the Underground Railroad affected family, economy and religion the social institutions, those who operated the Underground Railroad were diverse and have different reason for following the abolitionist movement, and not all the committees are made equally. According to Foner, the author of The Gateway to Freedom, there was a direct correlation between free blacks and fugitive slaves presence in the antislavery movement. Many people from many backgrounds helped fugitive slaves and the abolitionist development. There are many different actions abolitionists took to further their cause; some of the abolitionists were politicians, for example, William H. Seward and Thaddeus Stevens (19). Those who facilitated the U.R. fought for the abolitionist movement, they helped using many different means. Whether it dealt with the Underground Railroad directly or indirectly many abolitionists took part in helping. Some devoted their livelihood and found a job within the committees, for example being a lawyer or newspaper editor, some people elected their own time while still holding a job outside of the movement. These similarities are also there differences, such as both wars using subs but WWII more heavily using them and making more advancements. The time period in between WWI and WWII was one of the most technologically advancing times in world history. In between those trenches was an area known as no man s land and was the most dangerous place to be. This tactic lead to many standoffs and also extremely high numbers of casualties in a short period of time. One of the most efficient ways of winning these battles was chemical warfare. All that needed to happen was to throw a chemical bomb into the enemy s trench and then wait. Another of the famous tactics was called Blitzkrieg . This was a German tactic first used in Poland with little success and then used with more success in Belgium later on. What made Blitzkrieg so successful was how it was done. • 8. Explication of Mary Oliver’s “The Black Snake” In Mary Oliver s poem The Black Snake, the narrator contemplates the cycle of life with the unpredictability of death. Mary Oliver s work is known for its natural themes and a continual affirmation of nature as a place of mystery and spirituality that holds the power to teach humans how to value one s life and one s place (Riley). In the poem, The Black Snake, the narrator witnesses a black snake hit by a truck and killed on a road one morning. Feeling sympathy for the snake, the narrator stops, and removes the dead snake from the road. Noting the snake s beauty, the narrator carries it from the road to some nearby bushes. That is how death happens. The snake symbolizes death as dark and evil. The second begins with Now, he lies looped and useless (5). Beginning with when and progressing to now , the poet is suggesting a cause and effect philosophy. The snake quickly flashed across the road, but after being hit by the truck, lies useless in the road. The poet has given the snake a male identity. The narrator describes the snake as an old bicycle tire (6). The poet uses this technique of imagery to portray the now lifeless snake, as an old rubbery tire tube. The narrator reads I stop the car (7). This conveys that the narrator is an observer, and telling the story from a third person point of view. The narrator feels some sort of remorse or sympathy for the snake, removes him from the road, and carries him into the bushes (8). The poet uses bushes to indicate where the snake is taken to, and hidden or out of sight of the road. The third stanza describes the snake as cool and gleaming as a braided whip (9 10). Describing the snake as a braided whip demonstrates the intricate woven pattern of the snake s scales and the poet s appreciation for nature and its beauty. The snake is not a useless piece of rubber, but a beautiful and vibrant part of nature. He is as beautiful and quiet as a bead brother (10 11). Any man can become a father on the virtue of how sex has derived from it natural intentions of reproducing, to a form of temporary satisfaction or lust. Many men become fathers of a child rather it was their true intention or an unexpected occurrence following lust. Myself not too long ago was blessed with the opportunity of becoming a father. God has other plans for me and my girlfriend and now I am not in a position of fatherhood or the expectancy. For this assignment, I researched and interviewed four peers of mine that are either fathers or expecting to be fathers. My intentions or this research is to find the answer to the question: is fatherhood the greatest accomplishment, or worse anxiety of manhood ? Process To answer my question about fatherhood, I interview four peers of mine: two that are new fathers, and two that are expecting to be fathers. The two men who are expected fathers are my cousin Spencer, and his teammate in Oregon, Nick. Ironically, they are both 21 year old college basketball players whose significant others, will be giving birth during the process of the basketball season. The question I asked them are as followed: what are your feelings about becoming a father , how have you been involved in your wife s or girlfriends pregnancy , what part will you play in your child s birth , what part would you like to play , what do you think being a good father ... This resulted in shareholders losing $74 billion, thousands of employees and investors losing their retirement accounts and many employees lost their jobs (Accounting Degree.org, 2015). Crane and Matten (2010) argue After all, despite many years of business ethics being researched and taught in colleges and universities, ethics problems persist and the public remains sceptical of the ethics of business . The big problem we face is that ethical standards are declining because of insider trading of stocks and bonds, bribery, falsifying documents, deceptive advertising, defective products, employee theft and questionable activities (Ferrell, Fraedrich, and Ferrell, 2001). So why, do businesses continue to make these unethical decision when we universities teach ethics? In this essay we will discuss what ethics is, why people have trouble making ethical decisions, why should we teach ethics and why the public still remain sceptical about business ethics. What is ethics? Ethics is defined by Oxforddictionaries.com (2015) as moral principles that govern a person s behaviour or the conducting of an activity. There is no such thing as an ethic when we are born. We are taught ethical behaviours by our parents at a young age through religion, household values and the environment around us. However, this year the student load is too great, so a new overflow lot has been designated on the other side of the campus. In my personal experience, I have had to go to that lot before, and even that one is almost over capacity. One night while riding with a friend, we were just leaving and there was two or three other cars just sitting there waiting for us to get out of the mediocre spot instead of looking around for another spot, as we left the parking lot, it became clear why they did that, there were no other spots available. When we got back it took about an hour to find a parking spot as we had to check all the other lots for a spot, and ended up parking on the opposite side of campus to our dorms. Other students I asked stated that during the week, there s very little chance of getting a parking spot. Marketing and publishing can continue to date back together when trying to promote ideas. The marketer had to find someone to enjoy the ideas that the publisher wanted to promote. The early changes and develops of publishing are some of the only changes that continued to grow into todays markets Using your brain is something we all do day in and day out. This is a normal way of thinking about how we see the world. We tend to use what we see around us as reminders of what we want, or need to do. When publishers go about publishing a new book or new product they try and find someone who can use the information they are providing. Whether it is a true story or something strictly made up. We as humans have tendencies to use what we read and hear to promote some sort of desire we want. We can have many different ways of explaining what we see and what we gain. One of the best examples is from a Derren Browns subliminal advertising . This is an actual video that shows two well known advertisers from the from MBA firm being had by what they already knew. It explains how what we as humans see just driving down the street can have the biggest impact on what we draw. • 14. Anyone Lived In A Pretty How Town Essay In his poem, anyone lived in a pretty how town, E. E. Cummings describes the life lived by the average joe, symbolized by protagonist anyone, in the average pretty how town setting. Cummings asserts that children will be born and raised to all be the same, with no individuality, then grow into busy adults who cared for anyone not at all, and perhaps one day get married, live their lives, and die, still with nevers, or an unfulfilled bucket list. It is through the use of repetition, foreshadowing, and figurative language that Cummings conveys a mood of sad inevitability as he explains how this lifestyle repeats itself in cycles and how death will come to everyone, all while they live their lives in a society that might be pretty, but which lacks any real sense of community and individuality. Cummings uses repetition to point out how life goes on, and how each generation repeats a cycle. For instance, throughout the poem, Cummings repeats the names... Both little and small is a metonymy for all people, which Cummings uses to explain the first problem with the setting, which is how all the people in it apparently don t care for anyone, except for maybe themselves. Cummings then uses an extended metaphor to discuss the second problem. Sowed their isn t is a metaphor for the people raising children, and reaped their same refers to how these children have all been raised to conform to society so that they all end up the same. The Lost Sister Poem LA Assignment: Poetry Essay on Lost Sisters Name: Juay Liang Jing Class: 209 Firstly, the two sisters life experiences are different in terms of and because of their personality. In the first part of the poem, the sister who lives in China was submissive and made a choice to stay in China. The daughters were grateful and they never left home . However, it is later revealed that for the daughters living in China, to move freely was a luxury stolen from them at birth . Summary The aim of this session was to introduce us to the process of making an initial visit after receiving a referral within the role of a social worker. This was done with a small group exercise involving role play. We were placed into groups of four and once in our groups we had to divide ourselves into roles. There were three roles consisting of Service user, Social worker and observer. We were then taken to one side with people from other groups whom had be given the same role as ourselves and briefed on what it was we had to do. I was given the role of social worker, therefore i was told that I had to plan and undertake an initial visit and given the receipt of a referral. The referral consisted of concerns regarding a young boy, Max aged 2. The referral was made by the child s nursery. They had concerns about his behavior and presentation, for example, Max is often very tired, wears the same clothes for a number of consecutive days, is greedy when given food and aggressive towards his peers. Alongside this, questions regarding his mother, sally, were also raised. When staff at the nursery had spoken to her she seemed to show littler concern regarding her son s behavior, she often smells strongly of alcohol and bruises have been seen on her face. It was therefore my responsibility to take this information from this receipt of referral on board before then undertaking my role within the role play of a social worker making an initial visit. Total adjustment: based on these two changes results shows that INSEAD incurs additional expense of ВЈ58 m. However, due to the larger class size, this cost gets spread across a larger student base. As a result, when LBS s total cost is normalized to assume the same student volume as that of INSEAD, LBS s total adjusted cost can be estimated to be ВЈ77 m or 42% greater than that of INSEAD. All the women during these times could only stay inside the house and take care of the familial duties and chores. Women were primarily cooking meals, cleaning inside the house, and also taking care of their own child. On the other hand, most of the men were kings in the household who were in charge as they are the main source of income for making money. Most of the kids growing up during this time period ensured to consume a strong family background because the marriage was everlasting one. Back in the day, the maximum of divorce rates was very low compared to a present day, as of now, but how is that the divorce rates are high in the present today? That is because of the authorization in the 19th Amendment which were giving women right to vote, as they became more self governing (Harris). Women did not just want to cook, and clean working as a house wife at home any longer, but however women desired to have a job outside just like their husband earning all the money and have a nice working life. • 39. Written On The Banks Of The Arun By William Wordsworth... The hustle and bustle of modern day prevents people from truly contemplating the meanings of their life. People nowadays have little time to become one with nature and detach themselves from technology. Two poets who captured the beauty of connecting with nature are Charlotte Smith and William Wordsworth. Smith in her piece Written on the Banks of the Arun describes in a cold and melancholy manner what she experiences near the Arun bank. Meanwhile, Wordsworth in his piece Lines Composed a Few Miles above Tintern Abbey describes in a peaceful tone his feelings while sitting near the Banks of the Wye. Both Smith and Wordsworth pieces contain similar underlying meaning, symbolism, imagery, and setting. First, the intention of Smith and Wordsworth are to emphasize the beauty of nature and the pleasantness one feels when secluding themselves in the arms of Mother Nature. The natural scenery give Smith comfort since she expresses that it allows her to be alone and simply contemplate life. The bank of Arun in a sense is her safe haven because it permits her with the calming rise and fall of the waves to also release unwanted thought and welcome new thoughts. Smith emphasizes her enjoyment of the solitude she experiences when surround by nature. The concepts of knowledge and communication are shown throughout the book in different ways than are seen in today s modern day society. Knowledge is one idea that has conflicting meanings. The importance of knowledge is demonstrated in different ways between dystopian society and modern day societies. The topic of lack of knowledge is presented through the nonsignificance of books. • 41. Laughter In The BirdsBy Bergson sThe Birds Now, using Bergson s theory of laughter to analyze The Birds, it confirms the previously stated hypothesis, that the play applies as an aspect of Anthropocene laughter. The points made in the paragraphs above are extremely evident all throughout the text of the play. In The Birds, the two main characters, Pisthetaerus and Euelpides are fleeing Athens because of its current problematic status in politics, in search for something better, where they can have a brand new beginning. The two men sought out a new city, built by the influential birds, that was not tainted by man and his all too powerful hand. This is already quite similar to that of the Anthropocene, an age of wanting and needing change in order to survive after being naГЇve to humankind s power of destruction. This is an example of imitation, something that sparks laughter as stated by Bergson. This telling statement from The Birds confirms this: Weak mortals, chained to the earth, creatures of clay as frail as the foliage of the woods, you unfortunate race, whose life is but darkness, as unreal as shadow, the illusion of a dream, hearken to us, who are immortal beings (75). There is laughter within this because it reflects aspects of humankind. In order to even understand the comedyin this play, a degree of intelligence is absolutely necessary. It isn t any secret that political campaigns are known for their dirty tricks and doing what might seem unethical in order to get one step ahead. I believe this is because of the attitude that gets fostered in this environment that believes the aftermath of election failure is worse than getting caught for unethical behavior. Given its history and the recent tumultuous financial environment, particularly the 2008 financial crisis, U.S. GAAP has become a very robust and strictly enforced set of standards. This has given rise to concerns that some preparers of financial statements may commit accounting fraud by circumventing or manipulating the rules of U.S. GAAP. Supporters of IFRS argue that the more detailed the guidance, the greater the opportunity to find the loopholes in the guidance (Hillman, Heaston, and Dodd 5).
