Grendel and Cain and how they relate in Beowulf
Grendel and Cain
In the story of Beowulf you get a glimpse of many different themes throughout this epic. Those
themes range from good and evil to those of death and glory. The story itself depicts a period in
history when life was lead blind through the teachings of the book of the lord and his spoken words.
At this same period in history traditional pagan religious practices and beliefs have slowly given way
to the ideals and philosophy of Christianity. Many of the themes held within the pages of Beowulf
stem from the proverbs and fables recited and practiced in the Old Testament, while concurrently
adding pagan beliefs of monsters, demons, and multiple gods. The most striking of these biblical
comparisons is viewed between Grendel ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For his sin he was expelled from Eden. From that day on he led the life of an exile, doomed to be a
fugitive and wanderer in the earth (Gen. 4:12) and denied the rights of a normal man, only to bare the
mark of a sinner and warning to others. With this Cain walked into the land of Nod (unknown, evil,
dark), only to leave a legacy felt by the generations of his offspring.
When Cain killed Able, he ignited the eternal flame of a cursed family. From Cain s blood came the
curse of his exile and sprang ogres and elves and evil phantoms and the giants too (Beowulf. Pg. 35),
darkness entailed is legacy and evil embodied his future. Grendel is a descendant of Cain, so he shares
Cain s exile from all that is good and light. Cain may have been the first displaced person after Adam
and Eve, but he was not the last. Grendel shares his ancestor s punishment, he is exiled not only from
whatever land or wealth he would have had if he were human , but he is also abandoned by God and
all who followed and indulge in his faith and grandeur. It is this abandonment that causes Grendel to
destroy and murder. The treasure seat, he was kept from approaching; he was the Lords outcast
(Beowulf pg.36), since he cannot approach the throne of the Lord like the rest of mankind, he chooses
to attempt to destroy it. He has no love for God and his children if he can not be with them hand in
hand . However, unlike Cain and his parents, Grendel is doomed from

Advantages Of Direct Democracy
Direct Democracy There is a lot of controversy over which government is the best, and honestly I don
t think there really is a best form of government but I believe there that some are better than others.
Direct Democracy definitely has its flaws, it is the best option open to us at this time. It gives the
people the power to get what they want. America is already a form of Democracy, it s a Representative
Democracy. So direct Democracy is not too far fetched.
Direct democracy, also known as pure democracy, is where the people vote to on or form consensus
on policy initiatives directly. The word democracy literally means rule by the people . The United
States today is a representative democracy. Which is a democracy in which the people ... Show more

From 1995 to 2005 swiss citizens voted over 30 different times, while the french citizens only voted
twice. In direct democracies the citizens have most of the power.
We want rights, freedom, and equality. But we also need some sort of structure. As people we need a
say in how we live our lives but we cannot just do as we please. We can t have the government gaining
too much power but we need to still be controlled. Harmony in all aspects is what we are sought after,
we want and need a balance. Direct democracy is a way to get citizens involved and united. It helps
keep the government transparent, you cannot make promises to the people and then not keep them
because you run the risk of the people removing you from power. It holds everyone accountable, the
officials to do what they promised and to fix the problems within society and the people to keep their
government going in the right direction. The individual is foolish, the species is wise. (Burke).
Together we are better. There are also some pros to having a direct democracy, when the people want
to see change, they appeal and they vote. Which would truly be a government for the people, by the
people , protecting our interests. There is a checks and balances system that makes sure the power gets
distributed. Democracy also promotes equality, allows for change, doesn t put too much power in the

What was the Watergate scandal? The Watergate scandal was where five men broke into the

Nixon lost to John F Kennedy. After that, Nixon was deeply hurt and he blamed the media for
favoring his opponent. The five men that were arrested for the initial burglary were Bernard Barker,
Virgilio Gonzalez, Eugenio Martinez, Frank Sturgis, and James McCord. Two plumbers were also
involved in the scandal. They were CIA agent E. Howard Hunt and former assistant district attorney
from Duchess County, NY G. Gordon Liddy. The newspaper reporters that reported the scene included
Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein. The members of Nixon s cabinet members and key advisor were
William Rodgers and Henry Kissinger as his Secretary of State. David Kennedy, John Connally,
George Shultz, and William Simon as Secretary of the Treasury. Melvin Laird, Elliot Richardson, and
James Schlesinger as Secretary of Defense. John Mitchell, Richard Kleindienst, Elliot Richardson, and
William Saxbe as Attorney General. H R. Haldeman was President Nixon s Chief of Staff. Deep

Racism
Racism is a term that is often used to describe a variety of social, culture and economic problems, but
has, unfortunately, acquired so many contradictory meanings that it takes on the aura of a myth, it has
become increasingly difficult to define . Although the term wasn t officially featured in the Larousse
Dictionary until 1932, racism had been a dark cloud hanging over the global horizon for centuries (de
Benoist, 1999). Whenever there are people of different cultural and social characteristics introduced
into the mix, a recipe for racism and the hostilities it generates is created. Because racism defies a
singular definition but is usually represented by the categorizing of people according to certain
criteria, it can ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In their zeal for prosperity, many countries have exploited lesser developed nations and their natural
resources as well as so called
inferior or primitive peoples for economic gain (Vorster, 2002).
This is how slavery and colonialism, which have too often flourished throughout history, became the
primary examples of racism or the development of the mentality that white (civilization) was right.
When this desire for wealth and the power it represented encouraged territorial expansion with a
vengeance, the enslavement of indigenous peoples throughout Africa in particular was justified until
well into the twentieth century. When Germany had suffered a staggering blow to its nationalist image
after its humiliating defeat in World War II, a crazed dictator named Adolf Hitler was able to satisfy
his lust for power and at the same time bring his vision of a supposedly superior
Aryan race eerily close to realization through genocide or the extermination of Eastern European
Jews.
The third and possibly most compelling cause of racism is collective fear (Vorster, 2002, p. 296). This
creates group solidarity particularly among minority groups and is centered around protecting their
own interests (Vorster, 2002). It is this fear that ignites feelings of prejudice, an emotional rather than
rational reaction to perceived biases (Vorster, 2002). These prejudices are formed by mistaken

Rape And Its Treatment On Campuses
No means no. That is, until you are on a college campus. Then no probably means yes. It is no secret
that there is a campus rape epidemic that has seemed to sweep the headlines in recent years. The
problem seems new yet goes back perhaps to even the first widespread admittance of women to
college campuses. And still the campus rape problem remains, pushed under rugs and bordering on do
not ask do not tell policies perpetuated by many colleges and universities. Rape and its treatment on
campuses has become such an issue that even popular culture and media is beginning to speak out.
The days of universities coddling the perpetrators needs to come to a close society says so. The media
says so. Even our television shows say so.
The 2015 documentary The Hunting Ground debuted to film festivals revealing to audiences the
issues ingrained in our university system in how they treat rape taking place on their campuses (Dick).
Testimonials of rape victims from across the nation spoke out about their experiences with how their
schools treated their cases from accusations simply being ignored to suspected rapists being
disciplined with expulsions effective only after graduation. Some schools even find fault within the
victims themselves, falling privy to trends of victim blaming and slut shaming. Schools will have a
hundred sexual assault charges on their campus, even more resulting in no action: no suspensions and
no expulsions. So the lenience toward assailants, it has to

Politics And Religion By Gerard Hauser
Politics and religion have long been entangled in the United States. The United States has struggled
with the question of how to maintain an appropriate combination of religion and politics in the public
sphere for a long time. Gerard Hauser argues that public spheres are discursive spaces where society
deliberates about normative standards and even develops new frameworks for expressing and
evaluating social reality . Religion is part of the public sphere and has an influence in American
political life in affairs such as leadership, legislation and voter partisanship. Religious rhetoric plays
an important role in defining the boundaries of the political community and in setting the tone for
political discourse. American democracy owes its birth to the influence of a specific form of
Christianity: English Puritanism. The Pilgrims, laid the essential groundwork for America s
experiment in self government. Religion was in fact the primary reason for the northern settler s
immigration to the New World. These settlers known as Pilgrims because their journey had a religious
purpose . They sought to build Puritan communities, to live in America in their manner and pray to
God in freedom . The Pilgrims came to establish religious communities, but their beliefs called for
such communities to be instituted and administered by the consent of the governed. (Holloway,
Carson) As time went by, they began to constitute and frame laws, ordinances, acts and constitutions.

Histone Modification And Its Relation On Schizophrenia Via...
Histone Modification and its relation to Schizophrenia via the BDNF Gene
Histone modifications have a very crucial role when it comes to silencing genes through chromatin
remodeling. Changes in histone modifications can highly disrupt neuronal functions, along with
inhibitions to the gene, BDNF (Brain derived neurotrophic factor), which is crucial for cognition,
learning, memory formation, and vulnerability to social life and experiences. Mutations in this gene
are associated with susceptibility to Schizophrenia. Increased inhibition of this gene has a positive
correlation with methylated CpG sites. Currently, anti depressants keep receptors active. I will try to
develop a method that would perhaps uninhibit the down regulation of BDNF.
Studies on abnormal gene expression in postmortem brain have revealed that histone methylation may
be a viable avenue for early detection for some cases of schizophrenia. Histone acetylation and H3
methylation appear to pave the way for CpG methylation. Recent findings point to a possible
mechanistic link with H3 and H4 methylation. Evidence suggests that the DNA methylation
machinery teams up with histone acetylation and H3 methylation to generate a self propagating cycle
that promotes long term transcriptional repression. Thanks to these discoveries, we might have begun
to resolve the long standing mystery of how CpG methylation patterns are established. I hypothesize
that it is possible to prevent hypermethylation and hyperacetylation

Short Essay About Leonardo Da Vinci
Leonardo Da Vinci:
Leonardo da Vinci was born on April 15, 1452 in the town of Vinci. He was more than a painter but
also an architect, inventor, and a student of science. His paintings Mona Lisa and The Last Supper, are
one of the world s most famous artworks. Growing up Leonardo recorded his earliest childhood
memory in his notebooks. Leonardo s father Ser Piero, took him in at the age of three before that he
lived with his mother. His father was always busy but his uncle Francesco worked as a farmer, and
Leonardo spent his childhood observing nature and sketching it. Leonardo s first known contribution
was in Verrocchio s Baptism of Christ. Most critics agree that Leonardo painted the background as

It took him 10 years to complete her lips. Although da Vinci began work on the Mona Lisa while
living in Italy but he did not finish it until he moved to France. The French king displayed the painting
in his Fontainebleau palace where it remained for a century. Louis XIV removed it to the grand Palace
of Versailles. In the 19th century, Napoleon Bonaparte kept the painting in his boudoir. It wasn t until
it was stolen in the summer of 1911 that it would capture the attention of the general public. They
arrested poet Guillaume Apollinaire, who had once said the painting should be burned but their
suspicions proved to be unfounded. Mona Lisa received fan mail and flowers and even has her own
mail box. Da Vivni s painting, the Mona Lisa, was completed sometime between 1505 and 1507
although it wasn t completely finished.
He later on moved to France where he started his first self portrait. This self portrait was painted in
1512 using red chalk. Leonardo da Vinci s thinking about the power of the artist can also furnish the
clue to the famous enigmatic self portrait in red chalk. Often remarked that the painting looks older
than his age. This portrait perfectly fits the role in which Leonardo had cast himself. A venerable old

Joseph Stalin s Life And Life
Joseph Stalin
On March 18, 1878 in the small town of Gori Georgia a woman named Keke Geladze give birth to a
baby boy by the name of Vissarionovich Dzhugashvili (later changed to Joseph Stalin). At the time,
obviously, Keke had no idea of what that little boy would go on to do. She had no idea that by the end
of his life that same baby boy would have a kill count of around up to 20 million people and would
have tortured millions of millions of people along with becoming one of the most powerful man in
history and Russia s dictator.
As a child, Joseph Stalin was treated below par by the children in the village, the other children
supposed they were superior. This was one of main things that caused him to crave respect as an adult.
As you know by his killcount, Joseph Stalin would rarely forgive the people that betrayed him
remorselessly.
His mother hoped that stalin would become a priest, and as you already know things didn t turn out as
she had hoped. He was enlisted in church school in 1888. A mixture of his effort and his intelligence
in school earned him a scholarship for Tiflis Theological Seminary in 1894.
In 1899 Stalin left school the official reason being he was incapable of paying the tuition thus causing
him to drop out. However there was belief that he didn t actually drop out, rather, he was demanded to
leave because of his political views. In sometime around 1902, Joseph Stalin coordinated a labour
strike and was arrested and exiled to Siberia. In the

Angela s Ashes Speech Analysis
Faulkner s speech of 1950 at the Nobel Banquet established a new definition of good writing, one
engulfed within the tortures and joys of the human condition. To write only of the lustful and greedy,
the gluttons and slothful is in Faulkner s eyes literary blasphemy, for concentrating only upon the fall
of man discredits the countless amounts of admirable traits of man persevering throughout his trials.
Rather an author s duty in Faulkner s eyes is simple; to project the inner yearnings of man and
exemplify through characters the old verities and truths of the heart , the universal truths in which all
men can relate, those of love and pity, and of compassion and sacrifice. Focusing upon the suffering of
men, Faulkner states that the writer ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Frank McCourt delves into his own trials within his memoir Angela s Ashes, wherein he depicts his
childhood pursuit of an American life. In his discussions with his father about numerous tales and
personal aspirations, and his final arrival in America, McCourt embraces the writer s duty as he
describes the his pursuit and of happiness despite his contradictory feelings for his father and the fear
of failure within America (Faulkner). The passage in which Frank divulges into the multitude of
stories his father tells reflects the writer duty as it examines the typically negative drunkard in a more
positive light due to his passion for literature and knowledge. The passage begins with the childlike
tone creeping in, as the simple wording of, I know when Dad does the bad thing emulates innocence
to the scene, the diction reflecting a lack of complete knowledge of what is occurring. This tone shifts
when as the passage evolves, for upon reaching imagery of him with his father in front of the fire, a
more fond tone arises. The young voice peeks through within the whole passage, as Frank seems to
retell verbatim some of his conversation with his father I should be good in school...some day I ll go
back to America...I ll be out of the rain... (209). McCourt divulges into the special bond

The National Health Education Standards (NHES)
The National Health Education Standards (NHES) were developed by the Center for Disease Control
and Prevention back in 1995 with the support from a Committee that the members were The American
Cancer Society, The American Association for Health Education, The American Public Health
Association, The American School Health Association and the Society of State Leaders of Health and
Physical Education. The National Health Education Standards were written expectations for what
students must know and be able to do by grades 2, 5, 8, and 12 to promote personal, family, and
community health. Additionally the standards were written to provide a framework for instruction and
student assessment in health education.
There is a connection between education and health and with these standards an alignment was created

department will be in charge of making sure everyone exits the building safely, to check people for
infection, and to direct the non effected to the nearest escape route. Before we leave we will instruct
the citizens to pack lightly with essentials such as food, bottled water, and first aid kits. Also, we want
to take the highest safety precautions when dealing with infected because we do not want any other to
become infected so masks will be handed out for airborne diseases.
To continue the evacuation process the police department will direct and lead the citizens that will
travel on foot. With traveling on foot heavy firearms will be handled by the police in order to protect

travel with those on foot in order to prevent as many stops or delays in time. To travel as quickly,
effectively, and no casualties is the main goal. A scouting party will be above in a helicopter to see any

Differentiating Between Market Structures
A market structure in economics describes the state of a market with respect to its competition. There
exist several different market structures like perfect competition, oligopoly, and monopolies among
others. These markets all produce different types of goods or services, like public and private goods as
well as common and collective goods. Firms operating in these different market structures utilize the
labor market in very different ways because of very diverse uses of labor in each market structure, so
it is important for a firm to use the labor market equilibrium principles to their advantage ... Show

Different companies operate under different business models and one can see that under some market
forms, firms have no control over price, in others they have the power to adjust price in a way that
adds to its profits. There are different market structures with perfect competition at one end and pure
monopoly at the other. In between are different forms called monopolistic competition and oligopoly
that share some of the characteristics of both perfect competition and a monopoly competitive
structure (Colander, 2013, Chapter 13). Perfect competition exists when products are homogeneous,
and there are many firms too small to have any influence on the market price. These types of
businesses can easily enter and exit the industry. A situation where even one producer can affect the
price of a good by increasing or withholding output is called imperfect competition. Monopolistic
competition exists when many producers of slightly differentiated products are able to sell them at
well above their marginal cost. The core of the argument for competition is that as long as competition
exists in markets no one producer or group of producers can afford to abuse power by charging too
much or by selling bogus goods for fear that consumers might turn away from them to buy from other
producers. In line with that argument one of the government s tasks is to keep competition alive and
functioning. A

The Roles Of The Elizabethan Theatre
Elizabethan Theatre Imagine if it only cost you one penny to get tickets to a Broadway production. It
would almost seem too good to be true! Well, back in the 1600s, in London, you could buy your way
into a theater for as little as one penny. This price made it easy for anyone of any class to be able to
partake in the festivities. Hence, the reason the theaters became so popular from 1562 to 1642. The
theatres were very profitable based on the fact they were so popular in the community. The
Elizabethan theatres were viewed as popular entertainment because of their fanciful attributes, their
various events, and their several venues. In 1576, James Burbage, a theatrical entrepreneur, decided to

The pit was the yard around the stage. The pit is where you would find most of the lower class people
at, such as the commoners. The theaters were popular for lower class people because it was affordable
for them. There were other amenities that were lacking for the theaters. Almost all the lighting for the
theater was natural light. This meant that most plays would have to be show during the daytime. The
theaters did not have heating either. In the winter months they would have to shut the theater down
and be transferred to indoor playhouses. This actually helped boost popularity because it gave the
people something to do during the cold winter months since it was inside. There were no microphones
or soundboards to be able to hear so actors had to speak loudly and clearly. Unfortunately, there were
also no toilets at the theater. But there were no toilets and the floor they stood on was probably just
sand, ash or covered in nutshells (Shakespeare Globe Education). During the summer hours when it
would become real hot the pit would be called the stinkards. The theater gained popularity based on
the plays they would have showing. In most cases the plays would consist of humor, tragedy, or
histories. Shakespeare was one of the most popular playwrights at this time, and many of his plays
were performed in the Elizabethan theater. Among him were some other famous play writers,

What Are The Negative Effects Of Humans Destroying The Earth
Imagine living in a desolate wasteland. In place of the forests that were once shelter to hundreds of
animals is now a depressing factory. Out of the smokestacks on top of the factory comes a thick black
smoke, making the once clear, blue skies dark and dreary. Many animals that once roamed the Earth
are now extinct, and generations yet to come will never know a world where they are alive. The
actions of humans are gradually killing the Earth and if humans continue to harm the Earth, it could
become a wasteland. The actions of humans have caused numerous negative effects on Earth,
including climate change, environmental degradation, and deforestation. One negative effect humans
have had on Earth is climate change. Over the years, Earth s temperature has been gradually
increasing, and if it continues to rise the outcome could be fatal for every living organism on Earth.
Humans, animals, and plants are all at risk. There are many factors that cause climate change one of
which is the greenhouse effect. The greenhouse effect is the processes in which radiation from Earth s
atmosphere warms it s surface to a higher temperature than it would be without the atmosphere.
Humans have strengthened the greenhouse effect by the combustion of fossil fuels. This is because the
combustion of fuels causes an excess of carbon dioxide to linger into the atmosphere. If the
temperature rises too much habitats may become destroyed and unsafe for life, resulting in species of

funnies, pulp magazines styles were outside of the mainstream and featured adventure, fantasy, and
suspense. In 1933, Harry Wildenberg and Max Gaines took the traditional comic and folded it in half
and then created the first four color newsprint comic. It would became the new format which is still
seen in modern comic books still today.
The biggest rise in comic books was World War II, because the comic had two underling messages at
the time that kept the industry alive: social reform and patriotism. The DC superhero comics implicitly
stressed a common interest in public welfare and strong federal government all based its comics
around the Social status of America at the time. While Marvel comics took up the cause of WWII
patriotism in the early creation of Captain America, by showing Captain America punching Hitler. The
biggest underling message of comics during the Golden Age is the defense of normal people and good

The Democratic Process Of Southeast Asian Countries
The democratic process of Southeast Asian countries, such as Malaysia and Singapore, has seen very
little significant changes from civil society action. While each of these countries have claimed to be
democratic nations, there has been little change in terms of government rule since their independence.
These civil society groups are ones that reflect the ideas and values of a group of people, in pursuit of
a common goal. The changes that have resulted are in Malaysia and Singapore s governments, have
been to restructure or assert their power to maintain control over these civil societies. This has been
accomplished through media reform and regulations. Opposition to these ruling systems have been
met with great friction, but nonetheless have seen some success in changing the state of its operation
in small ways, yet not significantly due to the scope of their power. As democratic nations, Malaysia
and Singapore, do hold elections though only one party has held power in each nation since their
independence. Malaysia has been governed by the United Malays National Organization (Lec: 9/7)
since 1957 and Singapore has been ruled by the People s Action Party since 1965 (Lec: 9/21).
Governmental positions have mostly been uncontested with walkover winnings (Lec: 9/26) since this
time, due to election tactics. UMNO has maintained control of the political sphere by ruling as a
coalition, offering incentives for supporters and aggression for opposition (Lec: 9/7). Similarly, the

The Rhodes Must Fall Movement
This essay will attempt to give a response of the Rhodes Must Fall writings. It is clear that the rising
of movements like Rhodes Must Fall, has been a result of a wave of philosophies of Fanon and Biko
who share a highly similar pedigree in their interests in the philosophical psychology of consciousness
and desire for a decolonising of the mind (). Their ideologies have the interest of young South
Africans. The essay will be done by looking into how the movement wants the university to be
decolonised, the statue of Rhodes, alienation the students are experiencing, curriculum change, the
university s lack of cultural space and representation of blacks, racism in the university and
social/systematic exclusion of black students. In order to understand what the movement wants to
achieve, it is relevant to provide a background of its insurgence. The Rhodes Must Fall Movement is a
collective movement of students and staff members mobilizing for direct action against the reality of
institutional racism at the University of Cape Town (The Johannesburg Salon, 2015:6) .The movement
aims to advance black students interests by ending the oppression they experience in the university
and achieving equality. It is a shame that the University of Cape Town, just like other parts of the
South African society still retain a colonial character. The Rhodes Must ... Show more content on

Pop Culture In Japan
The throbbing crowd of Japanese business men all dressed in a suit holding a briefcase in a crowded
train station is a common image associated with the culture in Japan. Japan s culture has promoted a
lifestyle where work is prioritized over everything else and consumes the time of most adults. In
Response to this stressful work culture, Pop Culture has emerged in Japan as a way of providing
various mediums for escapism. For many Japanese adults, the time to create new relationships in the
form of romance or friendship has had to be given up due to the high expectations of work. Fred
Schumann who wrote Changing Trends in Japan s Employment and Leisure Activities: Implications
for Tourism Management, wrote about trends in Japanese leisure activities and wrote: Today s
consumers in Japan appears to be less materialistic and more experience focused. (Schumann 2017,
51). With the decline of human connection, the rise of artificial and paid for services has increased. I
will be discussing the significance of these leisurely outlets to the Japanese people and why there has
been a rise of these outlets in Japan. Affective labour is a term that can be used to describe work and
positions that invoke emotions onto its customers. This is a description of the category that all the jobs
discussed in this essay fall under. Furthermore, an article written by Scott M. Fuess delves into the
work culture and leisure time taken by the Japanese and finds that Japan is renowned for

Gender is a Fundamental Element of the Broadway Musical
Starting in the golden age of 1950, a Broadway musical s critical judgement depended on how well
the show s elements were formally integrated. Meaning the outlook of the plot in relation to the music,
lyrics and characterization of gender roles. Gender is a fundamental element of Broadway musical
theatre, constitutional to the musical s architecture. It is essential as a building block for characters,
music/lyrics, and stage settings. Broadway musical is a popular art, in which conveys social issues in
the female gender from the representations of women in the 1950 s to today. The Broadway musical
participates in a larger conversation about gender and sexuality because it is a commercial, profit
seeking, artistic commodity, entertainment form, and cultural product. Broadway musical is a
mainstream form that needs to relate to middle class audiences desires and expectations, one might
expect only social issues and stereotypical representations of women. The female gender stereotypes
are represented in Broadway musicals portrayed by the character s roles. As time went by, the
portrayal of the female characters in musicals changed because of the representation that women in
today receives. Thus, these musicals explore social issues of the day, including women s rights and
changing roles in U.S. culture, sometimes directly and sometime obliquely. Therefore, the Broadway
musical venerates female performers and provides substantial roles for women. Female characters and

Panda Bear Or Giant Panda
Pandas
The panda bear or giant panda is located in the south central area of China. It is recognized for its
appearance. It belongs to the Carnivore group even though it eats 99% bamboo. Pandas found in the
wild will eat other grasses, wild tubers, or meat in the form of birds, rodents, or carrion. Pandas in
captivity receive honey, eggs, fish, yams, shrub leaves, oranges, bananas, or other specially prepared
foods. Pandas live in mountain ranges because deforestation has driven them from lowland areas. The
panda is an endangered species. According to a 2007 report, there are 239 pandas living in captivity in
China, 27 pandas living outside the country, and 1,590 pandas living in the wild. The panda bear is a
great symbol in China. This animal is noticed because it is on the endangered species list.
The red panda, though it shares the name of panda, is not a bear. It is more closely related to a raccoon
or skunk and is an endangered species. This panda is called the red panda, lesser panda, or red cat
bear. This animal is not closely related to the giant panda or panda bear. This is an animal that is
adorable and cuddly looking but it also is so much larger than it appears.
Cultural Symbolism:
The panda bear is not only a fluffy creature it is also symbolic to China. The panda can symbolize
friendship and peace. The colors on the panda help resemble the Yin Yang by showing how the two
colors can mix and with the pandas nature it backs this up. The panda is really peaceful

Effects Of The Great Plains Region
Introduction
During the 1930 s, a period of severe dust storms caused great damage to the ecology and agriculture
of the Great Plains region in the United States. This period, known as the Dust Bowl, was caused by
severe drought conditions and poor farming practices put into place without proper understanding of
Great Plains ecology. The erosion of topsoil during this time produced extreme dust storms that could
reduce visibility down to one metre and had some dust storms even reaching the east coast.
Today, the threat of human induced global warming has caused some scientists to speculate that the
Great Plains region is set to experience semipermanent drought conditions similar to what was
experienced during the Dust Bowl. However, other scientists have claimed that conditions will be
much tamer by comparison.. This inconsistency of results is discussed by Hoerling et al in their paper
Is a Transition to Semipermanent Drought Conditions Imminent in the U.S. Great Plains? In their
paper, it is suggested that the variance in results is due to the fact that the primary studies that have
been conducted have used different methods and models to predict drought conditions and
temperature in the Great Plains area. The models and methods discussed include the Palmer Drought
Severity Index, the Coupled Model Intercomparison Project, and the Community Climate System
Model.
In this paper, I will describe in fuller detail the three models discussed in the paper by Hoerling et al as

Professor Compagnoni effectively outlined the characteristics of different legal systems in Class IV,
and rereading her class slides was helpful in understanding the subtleties of legal system associated
with my source text, French Civil Law, based on the Napoleonic code (code civil of 1804). I then
related that to the legal system as it functions in Canada, making note of the most prominent
differences, and being cognizant of those as I embarked upon my translation. N.B.: In my view, the
term legal system refers to the nature and content of the law generally, and the structures and methods
whereby it is legislated upon, adjudicated upon and administered, within a given jurisdiction.
Common law and civil law legal traditions share similar social objectives (individualism, liberalism
and personal rights), but they diverge in several key areas. In terms of understanding how legal
systems intertwine here in Canada, all of the provinces and territories, except Quebec, follow the
common law system. The Quebec Act of 1774 made Canada a bijural country (which means it has two
types of law). Outside of Quebec, private law is governed by the common law, and in Quebec, private

Secondary Endosymbiosis
Primary vs. Secondary Endosymbiosis
Primary Endosymbiosis:
Essential Endosymbiosis is the initial phase in the process that in the long run prompted the
development of mitochondria and chloroplasts as we probably am aware them today. Essential
Endosymbiosis initially happened when a substantial anaerobic cell overwhelmed a littler oxygen
consuming microscopic organisms. This high impact microbes could utilize the developing measure of
oxygen in the air to maintain itself and produce vitality. The bigger anaerobe is then ready to use the
natural items that the vigorous microorganisms delivered utilizing this oxygen.
Maybe the most vital distinction in the middle of essential and optional Endosymbiosis is that on

situation neither the Hatena nor the green growth can come back to self ruling living. The Hatena has

Presentational Devices in Chicken Run Essay
Presentational Devices in Chicken Run
Chicken Run is an animated film about a group of chickens trying to escape from a chicken farm. The
film is a spoof of the film The Great Escape and as with that film there are characters, who represent
good and characters who represent evil. In Chicken Run, the character that represents good is the
chicken, Ginger. The chicken farm owner, Mrs. Tweedie, portrays evil.
The film makers of Chicken Run have used presentational devices to give us clues about each

As with most war films the prisoners design escape plans. Chicken Run, is no different, with the
chickens designing numerous plans to escape, with little success. Many war films also have victims in
them. Chicken Run also has a convention for this, with Edwina the chicken being decapitated by the
villain Mrs. Tweedie. Finally, the last convention I will mention is the roll call. In war films the
prisoners are often told to line up for inspection, and Chicken Run adapts this, in the way the chickens
have to line up to have their eggs inspected.
Moving away conventions of war films, the film also has conventions of everyday household objects.
The chickens use screw drivers, hammers, and many other tools for building their contraptions which
they use in their attempt to escape from the farm. Another thing would be the fact that the chickens
dress much like humans do. For example the chicken, Ginger wears a hat, and the rooster on the farm
a scarf. Both these conventions serve, to make the viewers feel more familiar with the chickens and
therefore relate to them.
Now, moving onto the question. I will begin with how the film makers use different camera shots to
portray Ginger as a good character and Mrs. Tweedie as an evil one. However, I will first describe the
different camera shots. Beginning with the close up. This camera shot is, as the name implies, a close
up of, usually,

What Role Did Socrates Play in Ancient Greece?
In the leading city of Athens 2,500 years ago during the Golden Age, a peculiar philosopher was born
into the reign of Pericles. Socrates went against common religion, influenced social roles and people,
and was the founder of the Socratic Method. Religious opinions affected Socrates life a great deal.

They were very popular but loathed at the same time because of the financial problems they were
causing. For example, the most famous sophist was called Corax. He had a student called Tisias who
refused to pay the fee for his classes, he said Before I started, you promised you would teach me to
persuade anyone to do whatever I wanted. Let me now persuade you not to ask for your fee. If you
still demand it, you did not do what you promised, therefore I owe you nothing. However, Socrates
discredited this, However, not one of these things is true; nor, if you have heard from anyone that I
attempt to teach men and require payment, is this true. (Plato, n.d.). Socrates irritated people by
insisting things that could not be true. Critobulus, who was considered by many to be the most
handsome man in Athens. However, Socrates, with his protruding eyes and large nose insisted he was
more stunning than Critobulus. Socrates defended this by saying things such as Because while yours
see straight ahead, mine, by bulging out as they do, see also to the sides, and Mine, I consider,
granting that Providence made us noses to smell with. For your nostrils look down toward the ground,
but mine are wide open and turned outward so that I can catch scents from all around. (Zannos, 2004).

a young man he met at a wrestling school named Lysis. Socrates admitted to

alternative frameworks. Damage Control , sustainable development or the reform of development

According to the first theory, negative feedback loops terminate chess and development lies:
development institutions are considered super tankers painfully advancing on the wrong road but that

Civil Rights Movement in To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee
To Kill a Mockingbird was a 1960 s novel written by the author Harper Lee from Alabama during the
Civil Rights Movement which inspired the theme of her book; racism. The book is set in the 1930 s in
Maycomb which is a very poor town. The book is written in the view of Jean Louise Scout Finch a 6
year old girl who is the son of lawyer Atticus Finch and has a brother called Jem. They are close
neighbours to the dreaded Radley family and especially Boo Radley the son who they are terrified of.
Boo has been judged unfairly by the whole town of Maycomb because no one had seen him in years,
people were just going along with old wives tales about him stabbing his mother in the leg. This unfair
judgement links in with the racial prejudice that occurs in Maycomb when black people are treated
poorly just because of their colour.
Racism and Segregation happens throughout the book for example when Scout is at school and her
teacher Miss Caroline finds out Scout can read she tells her she can t read because the rest of the class
cant, she gets off to a bad start with Miss Caroline when she tries to explain Walter Cunningham can t
afford anything because his family are very poor which gets her in trouble. Also Miss Gates who is
very hypocritical says she condemns what Hitler is doing to the Jews which would make you think she
believes in racial equality but then she says she doesn t want blacks to get equal rights and they
shouldn t be treated fairly.

Separation Anxiety Disorder (OCD)
I was sitting at my desk looking at the new worksheet my teacher 3rd grade teacher had just handed
out. I looked at the clock and saw the time, 11:14, and wrote it on my paper. Later I looked at the
clock again, 11:20, and wrote it down again. I glanced at the clock yet again, 11:21, and jot the
number down once again. Eventually I had a line of times written down my worksheet. I didn t know
why I was doing it, or even that it was weird of me to do it. I just felt the need to do it and I did. It
became such a common action that my mom bought be a little notebook for me to specifically write
my times in so I didn t have to clutter up my homework. Another day at school we were doing a
project that required us to cut something out of paper. I had decided that I wanted to keep my scraps,

OCD is a mental anxiety disorder that causes the brain to have intrusive and unwanted negative
thoughts that leads a person to cary out actions for temporary relive of those thoughts. SAD is when A
child has an extreme fear of leaving or being separated from their parents. My doctor read me a
children s book about a boy with many of the symptoms associated with OCD to try to give me an
understanding of what was happening with my disorder. Many of the character s symptoms didn t
seem to apply to me so it was hard for me to relate. I got placed on some medication to help ease my
symptoms and I started improving dramatically, even before I had started the medication. I was
diagnosed as a third grader and by the time I was about to begin middle school my symptoms were
unnoticeable so my mother got me off of my prescription. I did great though middle school and only
ran into some school issues as a high schooler. I still am medication free, and although OCD is a
continuous and often changing struggle, I have learned to only push myself that much harder to
overcome it. I may have OCD but, OCD does not have

The Music Club Alternate Ending
The Music Club was buzzing with energy as the staff readied for the night ahead. Several members
were cleaning tables while Yvonne, the headline act was on stage practising her set. Ella busied herself
with checking glasses for smudges as she listened to the woman s wonderful voice. Ella, can I get a
coke? her boss called from the table where he was watching Yvonne with intensity, never looking up
as he waved Ella over. Ella grabbed a clean glass, poured a coke and took it over to him. What do you
think about her? Jacob flicked his finger in Yvonne s direction as Ella placed the glass on the table in
front of him. She sounds good. Ella replied as she wiped moisture off the palm of her hand on the hip
of her jeans. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
All of a sudden Yvonne cut off. Ella turned to see her running from the stage with one hand on her
stomach and the other over her mouth. The microphone fell to the floor with a loud clatter and the
sound system buzzed so loudly that it hurt Ella s ears. Yvonne? Jacob yelled as he pushed himself up
from his chair. It was the quickest Ella had ever seen him move. She was forced to dodge out of his
way as he raced for the door that went back stage. What s going on? Katie, one of the other barmaids,
asked as Ella headed back to her work. She shook her head and shrugged her shoulders. Something is
up with Yvonne. She replied as she picked up her next glass and began to wipe the smudges away. Ok,
everyone, I need all of you down here immediately! Jacob s voice came from the stage. Ella could
hear panic in his voice. As she turned toward the stage she saw that the other staff members were all

  • 2. Grendel and Cain and how they relate in Beowulf Grendel and Cain In the story of Beowulf you get a glimpse of many different themes throughout this epic. Those themes range from good and evil to those of death and glory. The story itself depicts a period in history when life was lead blind through the teachings of the book of the lord and his spoken words. At this same period in history traditional pagan religious practices and beliefs have slowly given way to the ideals and philosophy of Christianity. Many of the themes held within the pages of Beowulf stem from the proverbs and fables recited and practiced in the Old Testament, while concurrently adding pagan beliefs of monsters, demons, and multiple gods. The most striking of these biblical comparisons is viewed between Grendel ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For his sin he was expelled from Eden. From that day on he led the life of an exile, doomed to be a fugitive and wanderer in the earth (Gen. 4:12) and denied the rights of a normal man, only to bare the mark of a sinner and warning to others. With this Cain walked into the land of Nod (unknown, evil, dark), only to leave a legacy felt by the generations of his offspring. When Cain killed Able, he ignited the eternal flame of a cursed family. From Cain s blood came the curse of his exile and sprang ogres and elves and evil phantoms and the giants too (Beowulf. Pg. 35), darkness entailed is legacy and evil embodied his future. Grendel is a descendant of Cain, so he shares Cain s exile from all that is good and light. Cain may have been the first displaced person after Adam and Eve, but he was not the last. Grendel shares his ancestor s punishment, he is exiled not only from whatever land or wealth he would have had if he were human , but he is also abandoned by God and all who followed and indulge in his faith and grandeur. It is this abandonment that causes Grendel to destroy and murder. The treasure seat, he was kept from approaching; he was the Lords outcast (Beowulf pg.36), since he cannot approach the throne of the Lord like the rest of mankind, he chooses to attempt to destroy it. He has no love for God and his children if he can not be with them hand in hand . However, unlike Cain and his parents, Grendel is doomed from ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Advantages Of Direct Democracy Direct Democracy There is a lot of controversy over which government is the best, and honestly I don t think there really is a best form of government but I believe there that some are better than others. Direct Democracy definitely has its flaws, it is the best option open to us at this time. It gives the people the power to get what they want. America is already a form of Democracy, it s a Representative Democracy. So direct Democracy is not too far fetched. Direct democracy, also known as pure democracy, is where the people vote to on or form consensus on policy initiatives directly. The word democracy literally means rule by the people . The United States today is a representative democracy. Which is a democracy in which the people ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... From 1995 to 2005 swiss citizens voted over 30 different times, while the french citizens only voted twice. In direct democracies the citizens have most of the power. We want rights, freedom, and equality. But we also need some sort of structure. As people we need a say in how we live our lives but we cannot just do as we please. We can t have the government gaining too much power but we need to still be controlled. Harmony in all aspects is what we are sought after, we want and need a balance. Direct democracy is a way to get citizens involved and united. It helps keep the government transparent, you cannot make promises to the people and then not keep them because you run the risk of the people removing you from power. It holds everyone accountable, the officials to do what they promised and to fix the problems within society and the people to keep their government going in the right direction. The individual is foolish, the species is wise. (Burke). Together we are better. There are also some pros to having a direct democracy, when the people want to see change, they appeal and they vote. Which would truly be a government for the people, by the people , protecting our interests. There is a checks and balances system that makes sure the power gets distributed. Democracy also promotes equality, allows for change, doesn t put too much power in the hands ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Racism Racism is a term that is often used to describe a variety of social, culture and economic problems, but has, unfortunately, acquired so many contradictory meanings that it takes on the aura of a myth, it has become increasingly difficult to define . Although the term wasn t officially featured in the Larousse Dictionary until 1932, racism had been a dark cloud hanging over the global horizon for centuries (de Benoist, 1999). Whenever there are people of different cultural and social characteristics introduced into the mix, a recipe for racism and the hostilities it generates is created. Because racism defies a singular definition but is usually represented by the categorizing of people according to certain criteria, it can ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In their zeal for prosperity, many countries have exploited lesser developed nations and their natural resources as well as so called inferior or primitive peoples for economic gain (Vorster, 2002). This is how slavery and colonialism, which have too often flourished throughout history, became the primary examples of racism or the development of the mentality that white (civilization) was right. When this desire for wealth and the power it represented encouraged territorial expansion with a vengeance, the enslavement of indigenous peoples throughout Africa in particular was justified until well into the twentieth century. When Germany had suffered a staggering blow to its nationalist image after its humiliating defeat in World War II, a crazed dictator named Adolf Hitler was able to satisfy his lust for power and at the same time bring his vision of a supposedly superior Aryan race eerily close to realization through genocide or the extermination of Eastern European Jews. The third and possibly most compelling cause of racism is collective fear (Vorster, 2002, p. 296). This creates group solidarity particularly among minority groups and is centered around protecting their own interests (Vorster, 2002). It is this fear that ignites feelings of prejudice, an emotional rather than rational reaction to perceived biases (Vorster, 2002). These prejudices are formed by mistaken ... • 6. Rape And Its Treatment On Campuses No means no. That is, until you are on a college campus. Then no probably means yes. It is no secret that there is a campus rape epidemic that has seemed to sweep the headlines in recent years. The problem seems new yet goes back perhaps to even the first widespread admittance of women to college campuses. And still the campus rape problem remains, pushed under rugs and bordering on do not ask do not tell policies perpetuated by many colleges and universities. Rape and its treatment on campuses has become such an issue that even popular culture and media is beginning to speak out. The days of universities coddling the perpetrators needs to come to a close society says so. The media says so. Even our television shows say so. The 2015 documentary The Hunting Ground debuted to film festivals revealing to audiences the issues ingrained in our university system in how they treat rape taking place on their campuses (Dick). Testimonials of rape victims from across the nation spoke out about their experiences with how their schools treated their cases from accusations simply being ignored to suspected rapists being disciplined with expulsions effective only after graduation. Some schools even find fault within the victims themselves, falling privy to trends of victim blaming and slut shaming. Schools will have a hundred sexual assault charges on their campus, even more resulting in no action: no suspensions and no expulsions. So the lenience toward assailants, it has to ... • 7. Politics And Religion By Gerard Hauser Politics and religion have long been entangled in the United States. The United States has struggled with the question of how to maintain an appropriate combination of religion and politics in the public sphere for a long time. Gerard Hauser argues that public spheres are discursive spaces where society deliberates about normative standards and even develops new frameworks for expressing and evaluating social reality . Religion is part of the public sphere and has an influence in American political life in affairs such as leadership, legislation and voter partisanship. Religious rhetoric plays an important role in defining the boundaries of the political community and in setting the tone for political discourse. American democracy owes its birth to the influence of a specific form of Christianity: English Puritanism. The Pilgrims, laid the essential groundwork for America s experiment in self government. Religion was in fact the primary reason for the northern settler s immigration to the New World. These settlers known as Pilgrims because their journey had a religious purpose . They sought to build Puritan communities, to live in America in their manner and pray to God in freedom . The Pilgrims came to establish religious communities, but their beliefs called for such communities to be instituted and administered by the consent of the governed. (Holloway, Carson) As time went by, they began to constitute and frame laws, ordinances, acts and constitutions. Our ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Histone Modification And Its Relation On Schizophrenia Via... Histone Modification and its relation to Schizophrenia via the BDNF Gene Histone modifications have a very crucial role when it comes to silencing genes through chromatin remodeling. Changes in histone modifications can highly disrupt neuronal functions, along with inhibitions to the gene, BDNF (Brain derived neurotrophic factor), which is crucial for cognition, learning, memory formation, and vulnerability to social life and experiences. Mutations in this gene are associated with susceptibility to Schizophrenia. Increased inhibition of this gene has a positive correlation with methylated CpG sites. Currently, anti depressants keep receptors active. I will try to develop a method that would perhaps uninhibit the down regulation of BDNF. Studies on abnormal gene expression in postmortem brain have revealed that histone methylation may be a viable avenue for early detection for some cases of schizophrenia. Histone acetylation and H3 methylation appear to pave the way for CpG methylation. Recent findings point to a possible mechanistic link with H3 and H4 methylation. Evidence suggests that the DNA methylation machinery teams up with histone acetylation and H3 methylation to generate a self propagating cycle that promotes long term transcriptional repression. Thanks to these discoveries, we might have begun to resolve the long standing mystery of how CpG methylation patterns are established. To write only of the lustful and greedy, the gluttons and slothful is in Faulkner s eyes literary blasphemy, for concentrating only upon the fall of man discredits the countless amounts of admirable traits of man persevering throughout his trials. Rather an author s duty in Faulkner s eyes is simple; to project the inner yearnings of man and exemplify through characters the old verities and truths of the heart , the universal truths in which all men can relate, those of love and pity, and of compassion and sacrifice. In his discussions with his father about numerous tales and personal aspirations, and his final arrival in America, McCourt embraces the writer s duty as he describes the his pursuit and of happiness despite his contradictory feelings for his father and the fear of failure within America (Faulkner). The passage in which Frank divulges into the multitude of stories his father tells reflects the writer duty as it examines the typically negative drunkard in a more positive light due to his passion for literature and knowledge. The passage begins with the childlike tone creeping in, as the simple wording of, I know when Dad does the bad thing emulates innocence to the scene, the diction reflecting a lack of complete knowledge of what is occurring. This tone shifts when as the passage evolves, for upon reaching imagery of him with his father in front of the fire, a more fond tone arises. The young voice peeks through within the whole passage, as Frank seems to retell verbatim some of his conversation with his father I should be good in school...some day I ll go back to America...I ll be out of the rain... These markets all produce different types of goods or services, like public and private goods as well as common and collective goods. Different companies operate under different business models and one can see that under some market forms, firms have no control over price, in others they have the power to adjust price in a way that adds to its profits. There are different market structures with perfect competition at one end and pure monopoly at the other. In between are different forms called monopolistic competition and oligopoly that share some of the characteristics of both perfect competition and a monopoly competitive structure (Colander, 2013, Chapter 13). Perfect competition exists when products are homogeneous, and there are many firms too small to have any influence on the market price. These types of businesses can easily enter and exit the industry. A situation where even one producer can affect the price of a good by increasing or withholding output is called imperfect competition. Monopolistic competition exists when many producers of slightly differentiated products are able to sell them at well above their marginal cost. The core of the argument for competition is that as long as competition exists in markets no one producer or group of producers can afford to abuse power by charging too much or by selling bogus goods for fear that consumers might turn away from them to buy from other producers. In line with that argument one of the government s tasks is to keep competition alive and functioning. A ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The erosion of topsoil during this time produced extreme dust storms that could reduce visibility down to one metre and had some dust storms even reaching the east coast. Today, the threat of human induced global warming has caused some scientists to speculate that the Great Plains region is set to experience semipermanent drought conditions similar to what was experienced during the Dust Bowl. However, other scientists have claimed that conditions will be much tamer by comparison.. This inconsistency of results is discussed by Hoerling et al in their paper Is a Transition to Semipermanent Drought Conditions Imminent in the U.S. Great Plains? In their paper, it is suggested that the variance in results is due to the fact that the primary studies that have been conducted have used different methods and models to predict drought conditions and temperature in the Great Plains area. The models and methods discussed include the Palmer Drought Severity Index, the Coupled Model Intercomparison Project, and the Community Climate System Model. In this paper, I will describe in fuller detail the three models discussed in the paper by Hoerling et al as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Professor Compagnoni effectively outlined the characteristics of different legal systems in Class IV, and rereading her class slides was helpful in understanding the subtleties of legal system associated with my source text, French Civil Law, based on the Napoleonic code (code civil of 1804). I then related that to the legal system as it functions in Canada, making note of the most prominent differences, and being cognizant of those as I embarked upon my translation. N.B.: In my view, the term legal system refers to the nature and content of the law generally, and the structures and methods whereby it is legislated upon, adjudicated upon and administered, within a given jurisdiction. Common law and civil law legal traditions share similar social objectives (individualism, liberalism and personal rights), but they diverge in several key areas. In terms of understanding how legal systems intertwine here in Canada, all of the provinces and territories, except Quebec, follow the common law system. The Quebec Act of 1774 made Canada a bijural country (which means it has two types of law). Secondary Endosymbiosis Primary vs. Secondary Endosymbiosis Primary Endosymbiosis: Essential Endosymbiosis is the initial phase in the process that in the long run prompted the development of mitochondria and chloroplasts as we probably am aware them today. This high impact microbes could utilize the developing measure of oxygen in the air to maintain itself and produce vitality. The film is a spoof of the film The Great Escape and as with that film there are characters, who represent good and characters who represent evil. In Chicken Run, the character that represents good is the chicken, Ginger. The chicken farm owner, Mrs. Tweedie, portrays evil. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As with most war films the prisoners design escape plans. Chicken Run, is no different, with the chickens designing numerous plans to escape, with little success. Many war films also have victims in them. Chicken Run also has a convention for this, with Edwina the chicken being decapitated by the villain Mrs. Tweedie. Finally, the last convention I will mention is the roll call. In war films the prisoners are often told to line up for inspection, and Chicken Run adapts this, in the way the chickens have to line up to have their eggs inspected. Moving away conventions of war films, the film also has conventions of everyday household objects. The chickens use screw drivers, hammers, and many other tools for building their contraptions which they use in their attempt to escape from the farm. Another thing would be the fact that the chickens dress much like humans do. For example the chicken, Ginger wears a hat, and the rooster on the farm a scarf. Both these conventions serve, to make the viewers feel more familiar with the chickens and therefore relate to them. Now, moving onto the question. I will begin with how the film makers use different camera shots to portray Ginger as a good character and Mrs. Tweedie as an evil one. However, I will first describe the different camera shots. Let me now persuade you not to ask for your fee. If you still demand it, you did not do what you promised, therefore I owe you nothing. However, Socrates discredited this, However, not one of these things is true; nor, if you have heard from anyone that I attempt to teach men and require payment, is this true. (Plato, n.d.). Socrates irritated people by insisting things that could not be true. Critobulus, who was considered by many to be the most handsome man in Athens. However, Socrates, with his protruding eyes and large nose insisted he was more stunning than Critobulus. Socrates defended this by saying things such as Because while yours see straight ahead, mine, by bulging out as they do, see also to the sides, and Mine, I consider, granting that Providence made us noses to smell with. For your nostrils look down toward the ground, but mine are wide open and turned outward so that I can catch scents from all around. (Zannos, 2004). Civil Rights Movement in To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee To Kill a Mockingbird was a 1960 s novel written by the author Harper Lee from Alabama during the Civil Rights Movement which inspired the theme of her book; racism. The book is set in the 1930 s in Maycomb which is a very poor town. The book is written in the view of Jean Louise Scout Finch a 6 year old girl who is the son of lawyer Atticus Finch and has a brother called Jem. They are close neighbours to the dreaded Radley family and especially Boo Radley the son who they are terrified of. Boo has been judged unfairly by the whole town of Maycomb because no one had seen him in years, people were just going along with old wives tales about him stabbing his mother in the leg. This unfair judgement links in with the racial prejudice that occurs in Maycomb when black people are treated poorly just because of their colour. Racism and Segregation happens throughout the book for example when Scout is at school and her teacher Miss Caroline finds out Scout can read she tells her she can t read because the rest of the class cant, she gets off to a bad start with Miss Caroline when she tries to explain Walter Cunningham can t afford anything because his family are very poor which gets her in trouble.
