The Golden Ass
Apuleius wrote the Golden Ass during the Second Century A.D. In it he talked about many complex
allegorical contexts and layers of meaning pertaining to varying religious practices. He was able to do
this by essentially switching back and forth between side stories which might or might not intertwine
with the overall story. The religion of Isis was predominant in comparing the other lesser known or
rather inferior religions of the time such as Christianity. It seems as if Isis was praised in a way that
would grant her saint like qualities. Many things were considered important surrounding this including
dreams and the recounting of them to priests, as well as snakes associated with Aesculapius and the
healing procedures associated with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There also is a misogynistic view of women throughout the book and their almost inescapable
correlation with magic and practices used essentially for evil. The story of Thelyphron discusses this
correlation, with women being the center of the story as well as the themes of magic and the occult.
Traditional religion of the day gave high regard and respect for the dead, more than the living in most
cases, and as such stringent funeral rites and burial procedures were hence followed to ensure proper
passage of the soul or reincarnation depending on what path you specifically may take. Hence in this
story, when it comes to mutilating the body of Thelyphron, instead of treating it as an unthinkable
crime, it only elicits laughter from the crowd. This act shows a shift in the story where ridicule and
public humiliation play an essential role in demeaning the rights of citizens and legal condemnation is
put into a clearer context. Public condemnation was also shown in the story of Aristomenes when he
was scared in being falsely accused of Socrates murder, driving him into hiding. This theme also
carries onto the trial of Lucius, which apparently turns out to be nothing more than an elaborate, and
decidedly cruel, practical joke. The repeated fear of condemnation and subsequent absolution are
evident throughout the story because this umbrella of fear kept control on peoples actions, and maybe
in a way were also the fears and insecurities

Recent Medical Discoveries In Fibrodysplasia Ossificans Progressiva Disease
Abstract
Fibrodysplasia Ossificans Progressiva disease also known as FOP is a rare genetic disease of the
connective tissue. FOP can be characterized by malformations of the big toe. This malformation is a
characteristic feature that helps distinguish the disease from other muscle and bone issues. It is a
disease that is caused by a mutation in the bodies repair mechanism. This causes muscle and
connective tissue such as ligaments and tendons, to be ossified spontaneously or when they are
damaged. Sometimes the bone can be permanently frozen in place in some cases. FOP is usually seen
in early childhood it starts with the neck and shoulder and proceeds down the body and into the limbs.
People who suffer from FOP are basically imprisoned by their own skeleton. Majority of FOP cases
are sporadic and are a result from a new gene mutation (Lerardi Curto and Lynne). This mutation is an
autosomal dominant disorder; this means it affects those who are heterozygous with a homozygous
recessive partner because of this it means their children will have a fifty percent chance of having
FOP. Most cases of FOP are a result from new mutations in the gene. People who have FOP and have
the heterozygous phenotype have less severe affects than those who have the homozygous dominant
phenotype. Patients who have FOB have the ossification gene that is still working in their bodies and
it is usually turned off after a

The Reggio Emili A Model Of Early Childhood Development...
The Reggio Emilia approach is one that is a model, inspiring early childhood development education. .
As children are natural explorers, they enjoy their environment and would love it to be a part of their
own creation and knowledge. A typical day in a center that is based off of the Reggio Emilia approach
is centered on the interests of the child and the guidance from the teachers. There are various
opportunities that are provided to the children from a Reggio Emilia Approach.
This approach was a model of early childhood education that was based on the foundation that would
facilitate a child s learning through different ways. The ways, such as expressive, communicative, and
cognitive, were intended to progress early childhood development. This approach was founded by a
man who was an early education specialist from Reggio Emilia, a town in North Italy. The man s
name was Loris Malaguzzi. His vision attracted the world through his project and play based
curriculum. It was also based on the play of children and the guide of educators. The overall approach
is combined from principles that were based off of child centered curriculums. These types of
curriculums included parents, educators, the communities, and the children. This formulated what was
known as the environment. The environment is known to be the third teacher because it is set up by
the educators in order to observe and further the learning of the child. An important factor of this
approach is documenting. This

Maria Montessori and Environment
Concentration is the key that opens up the child s latent treasures within him. As the scattered
elements if his personality comes together, order begins to take the place of disorder, and the work of
self construction, which had been interrupted, is now taken up again, as nature has intended all along.
E.M Standing, Maria Montessori: her life and work, pg 174
Learning, by itself, cannot happen without concentration. Whether we are learning to tie our shoes,
write our name, wash a car or solve complex algebraic equations, there is intense concentration
specific to the task at hand. Dr. Maria Montessori understood the power of concentration, and her
methodology is designed to nurture this power. Concentration in infants is a fragile ... Show more

The sensitive periods are triggered due to an unconscious will power/force called Horme, which
pushes the child to fulfill his divine urge. The sensitive periods are critical to the child s self
development. The child passes through six significant sensitive periods those for Sensitivity to order;
learning through five senses; sensitivity to small objects; sensitivity to co ordination of movement;
language and social aspect of life. Dr. Maria Montessori believed that the child is born with pre
determined psychic pattern or The eight Law s of Natural Development which are laid down before
birth i.e. Law of work; when children were exposed to the material in the prepared environment
become calm and peaceful and their destructive behaviors disappear. Thus, Montessori concluded that
some great need of the child must have been met through this activity of concentration. Law of
Independence, wherein the child uses his independence to listen to his own inner guide for actions that
can be useful for him. We must keep children independent by providing them enough opportunities to
work with materials. Power of attention, to further enhance and cultivate the power of attention we
engage the child into various Montessori activities thereby developing the ability to concentrate and
building personality. After internal coordination is established through the child s ability for prolonged
attention and concentration, the Development of Will takes place, where in

How Have New Emphases And Interpretative Lenses Is History
How have new emphases and interpretative lenses emphasizing history from below affected the more
traditional subfields of political, military, diplomatic, and sectional history and how do they affect
world history. During the past century these four subfields have evolved within themselves to rise
from their traditional methodologies of study to incorporating social and cultural historiography to
better analyze their subject matter; while turning from an inner study, as it applies to the United States,
towards a more world view. The authors of this week s reading project s a theme or commonality that
has affected their subfield from the turn of the century until now. They all mention Frederick Jackson
Turner s reading of his famous paper, The Significance of the Frontier in American History, where he
argued that frontier settlement, and not institutional and spiritual inheritance from the Old World,
accounted for the origins and peculiar development of American democracy. This was the first time
interpretations of social and cultural were utilized in the studies of particular subfields that started the
Progressive era that lasted until the start of World War II. During this period studies were from the
bottom up versus the old top to bottom approach; going from the great men and great events, to the
study of the ordinary people and incorporating previously neglected groups like women and black.

The Terror Known as Robespierre
Robespierre was one of the most significant men throughout the period of the French Revolution; he
had such an immense amount of power that he was able to have rivals of the revolution put to death.
Robespierre s power came from his joining of the Committee of Public Safety (CSP), whose original
job was to deal with diplomacy and warfare with foreign enemies; though under Robespierre s power,
the CSP became a part of the government which dealt with internal policing, which got in the way of
the jurisdiction of the Committee of General Security (CSG). The job of the CSG was to remove and
discipline enemies of the revolution, though they ended up competing with the CSP for power over
this matter. With this influence from his place in the CSP, he climbed a social ladder to becoming both
extremely influential as well as difficult to remove from control. Despite the fact that Robespierre held
a great deal of power, his authority eventually declined and led to his death: while working within the
CSP, he ordered countless individuals to be guillotined whether or not people on the outside of the
conflict viewed them as deserving of such punishment: in one instance, he put to death several people
that he viewed as anti revolutionary: Georges Jacques Danton, Lucie Simplice Desmoulins, Jean
François Delacroix, and Pierre Philippeaux. Robespierre did not leave this up to the CSG whose job
was to punish this type of people and because of this, he gained the reputation of a tyrant he

My Purpose Of Art
PAINTING
When you re afraid of making mistakes, but do so anyway... when you allow yourself time to fix those
mistakes that is when you succeed.
I use art as a form of escape. At least, that was its initial purpose. It didn t matter that I wasn t good
(because I was, like, 5). Art made me happy and so I simply continued to make it. I took every art
course that my school allowed me to and the few years when they didn t offer one were torture for my
small self. Years later, with permission from my art instructor, I skipped an art course and took AP
Studio Art (a senior class) during my junior year. This was the first time that I had the freedom to
create whatever I wanted whenever I wanted. My artistry improved drastically alongside my
enthusiasm for learning new skills. I went from drawing with pencil to painting with acrylics and
watercolors, drawing digitally, sculpting, and even making jewelry. It was like I discovered my
passion all over again. Art started to become something more to me, and soon I had dreams of
becoming an artist. However, it wasn t until I went to Kansas City Art Institute (KCAI) over the
summer before my senior year that I truly grasped the struggle of becoming an artist. Throughout my
whole life, I only thought of art as a necessity; I needed it to stay calm, happy, and organized. But in
just three weeks, I realized that the fundamentals of art posed questions that, to me, were on the scale
of dinosaurs, aliens, Greek mythology, and even

Fshore Banking Institutions
The offshore banking institution is regulated in three different ways, through agency, subsidiary, and
foreign branches. These kinds of institutions are difficult to regulate because countries cannot impose
reserve requirements on its own banks overseas branches (Grittersova, 15). According to Singer,
regulators enact tighter capital requirements without the explicit intervention of congress. As banks
assumed more and more risk, regulators responded by imposing greater capital requirements without
the explicit intervention of congress (Singer, 49). This makes it difficult for the international banking
to have restriction on the bank examinations, capital requirements, and assets. Internationally, the
safety net main purpose is to establish an international standard that will minimize the power of the
regulators and protect the consumers that are within the jurisdiction. Because of the existence of
contagion there has been an important institution that has intervened as a disciplined which is the
international lender of last resort (189). Overall The Basel Committee on Banking Supervision was
composed of the G10 central banks and national bank regulators in where they negotiate international
banking standards, according to Fratianni, the G10 is small, homogenous, and rich in intelligence on
financial markets with international financial transaction in the world. During the 1980 s the U.S.

Evaluation of the Floods in the Bible and Epic of Gilgamesh
There have been various flood stories recognized from prehistoric sources dispersed around the world.
One of these flood stories we are most acquainted with in today s culture is the Noah ark, which
convey a remarkable story of how god punish the world for how immoral it had become. The divine
accomplish this by flooding the world and crushing all the living being, saving it for Noah and his
family and a pair of all type of creature that walk on earth. Based on the evidence available at present
time, people can debate that the Genesis ark story was based on the Epic of Gilgamesh. The themes in
these two stories, such as the assigning of animals and humans in the ark, the landing of the ark on a
mountain, and sending of birds to see whether the waters had move away, clearly represents the
similarity between the two. Although the main plot is parallel between the dual, they are diverse in

selected to build an ark or boat. In the Genesis God decided to terminate everything but Noah, who
was a righteous man, the one blameless man of his time and he walked with God . (Genesis 6:9). The
boat was built and was loaded with the righteous man, their family and all species of the earth. Noah
had become the basis of redemption for the creation of people in the future. He symbolized the
resurgence and a new beginning of creation. He is also the representation of God s sympathy and
refinement. On the other hand, Ea informs Utnapishtim in a dream that he must help the human
population survive. Together these men are the signs that God and Ea need the moral humankind to

How Does Mark Twain Use Irony In The Celebrated Jumping Frog
Mark Twain, a famous writer, wrote a brilliant, humorous story called The Celebrated
Jumping Frog of Calaveras County. He includes implausibility throughout the short story to

anthropomorphized. The dog displays human characteristics that would not actually be possible in
reality. Twain uses implausibility in The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County in many
passages by introducing plenty of examples of anthropomorphism and irony. Dogs are like humans in
some ways. They have feelings, they eat and drink, they feel pain, etc. However, dogs minds are not as

An Average Sized Person By My Own Society s Standards
An average sized person by my own society s standards, I have developed over the last few days, a
sudden complex: I feel gargantuan in size as I stand a head above the throngs of people I am swarmed
by, while attempting to make my way through the crosswalk. Rarely one prone to anxiety, it is difficult
not to become overwhelmed; never have I seen so many people in one place. Tokyo after all, boasts
nearly half the population that Canada does in its entirety. Feeling the familiar wave of nausea that had
accompanied me since landing, I signal to my friend Yasuyo, my need to stop. It feels as though the
world itself is tilting and that gravity has ceased to exist, and as the earth continues to shift under my
feet, I start to believe that in a moment I will topple off its surface. I thought jet lag simply equated
tiredness. I lean against a building in an attempt to steady myself. My fear of humiliating myself and
my company is slowly starting to subside as the wave passes. What takes its place is a feeling so
profound it too, becomes physical. I look up to the sky and although it is mid day I can see the half
moon. I wonder if any of my friends back home happened to be gazing at the same moon in that very
moment. It is then that the sweeping realization came over me; I had succeeded in making a small but
victorious step towards fulfilling my dream of traversing the globe. Seventeen years and twenty five

Economics of the Financial System
Show how transactions in derivatives can be used to either hedge risk or to open speculative positions.
Derivatives have become popular in response to the increasing volatility and complexity of financial
markets. A diverse range of new financial products have been created to enable market participants to
handle the risks arising from trade in securities and to speculate on future expected movements in
securities prices, without direct trade in the assets themselves. Derivative contract creates a promise to

If stock prices plunge over this period, the index will fall as well, and so will the futures contract on
the index in response. Amana will profit on its future position, because the future price paid at which
the index is sold will be less than price paid for the index at settlement date.
After a month, the stock market falls as anticipated, and the futures price of the DJIA is at an index
level of 19,000. DJIA futures contract are rated at £10 the DJIA index, so Amana stands to gain. Sold
DJIA futures for 20,000; receives 20,000 times £10 =£200,000 Purchased DJIA futures for 19,000;
owes 19,000 times £10 =£190,000 Gain is £200,000 £190,000 = £10,000
This shows that Amana benefits from selling a DJIA futures contract. Amana has gained from a

Options give one party the right, but not the obligation, to buy (or sell) at a set price on an agreed

So until Charles III gave them the citizenship, they had a very challenging life and that is reflected in
Flamenco. Katz stated, they developed a song repertory of a special character, the essence of which,
rooted in poverty, expressed the plight of their existence and gave impetus to poetic and musical forms
that had become prominent around the mid 18th century. (n.d.)
As the gypsies continued to settle in and live freely, flamenco became a significant musical genre in
Andalucia and it became well known for entertainment in the cafés cantates (singing cabarets) built in
different cities. Flamenco became more and more popular as generations go by, until even the non
gypsies perform this musical genre as well. Flamenco has genuineness in its style of music. Manuel
stated, flamenco songs typically alternate verses with a catchy, singable refrain and pre arranged
instrumental interludes. The latter generally foreground guitar, but the accompaniment as a whole
often includes bass, percussion, and perhaps other instruments. (2010, p. 115)
There are three main types that are presented in the scales used in flamenco. First is the Medieval
Phrygian or is also called as Greek Dorian. Phrygian is diatonic according to Johnson (1993), which
means Phrygian has a seven note scale that has an octave span filled by 5 tones or 2 semitones
(Drabkin, n.d.). The second type is a modified scale resembling the Arab maqam Hijazi and the third
type is a bimodal configuration alternating

Roman Army Discipline
Discipline is the practice of forcing people to follow societal norms. This has been necessary for all
groups of humans that work together. Even early Paleolithic humans worked in groups where some
form of discipline would be necessary. Different methods and goals of discipline have been observed
over time. The differences are due to varying military and political needs.
The Roman army used discipline for advanced strategy in warfare as well as state expansion. Rome
was a vast empire and sought to conquer many of the surrounding territories to acquire wealth and
resources. They were constantly adopting and developing military tactics that would help them gain a
military edge. One of these innovations was the organization of their troops into a checkerboard
formation. This formation was very flexible and offered real time tactical advantage. A unit could ...

One aspect of guerrilla warfare is to cut resources off from the enemy. This could be done by
destroying telephone poles, sewers, railroads, or water mains. Guerrilla fighters needed to be
coordinated to execute these plans without the enemy catching them. The risk of such an operation
was high because the fighters would lose if the conventional army directly confronted them.
Discipline enabled the fighters to be able to focus on a mission and execute it swiftly and covertly.
Also, the eventual goal in this conflict was to develop a conventional army. Guerrilla warfare was a
defensive battle. It was nigh impossible to capture strategic points from the enemy. Developing a
conventional army would let resistive forces capture new territory and forcibly push out the enemy.
After years of discipline in the guerrilla army, the people would become well trained soldiers that
could be organized into a more conventional army. This aspect of discipline shares a similarity with
the Romans. Discipline was used to increase the tactical strength of their

The ATP P system doesn t provide a lot of energy but it is used for quick and powerful movements.
For example: A 100m runner would use the ATP PC system due to the fact that the athlete would need
a short powerful burst of movement to be able to get off the blocks quickly. Another example of this
energy is for a shot putter. They would use this energy system because they don t need a lot of energy
for their sport, all they need is a short powerful burst of energy to be able to get a strong, powerful
thrown and to be able to throw the shot putt a long way. All these different sporting examples last up
to 8 10 seconds and this is the energy production. The speed of energy production for Phosphocreatine
is very fast, although the amount of ATP produced is very limited. The time it takes to recover from
the ATP PC energy system is 30 seconds up to 4 minutes. The phosphocreatine works when your body
is working at high intensity at around 90 100%. The strengths of the Phosphocreatine system is
because the source is stored in the muscles and liver so it can produce energy very quickly using a
short burst. This means that there will be a higher force of contraction. There are also no waste
products within this system. Another advantage/strength of this energy system is the recovery time.

At the start of this scene, as James is heading toward the graves it is mainly close up shots of James,
and then it begins to include shots of James family as well. These shots indicate that his family are
supporting him and the shots of him show that he is the main subject. As James and his family are
walking along the path towards the graves a very patriotic orchestral music is being played, the
rhythm is based on their footsteps,
every step James takes there is a beat of a drum. As they enter the grave yard the camera rises up
above the grave stones and shows the vast number of graves. The camera then moves to the graveyard
and whilst this is happening the music is still the same orchestral music but the beat of the drum is
heavier. As the camera moves over the grave stone American flag, this shows how patriotic this event
is. The effect of this is it hits you as to how many people have died pointlessly and a feeling of
empathy for James because of the loss of his friends. Then James Ryan falls to his knees in front of
one gravestone and he begins to cry. This is a close up shot of him then the transition begins. The
camera falls into James eyes and then you can hear the ocean, the waves crashing and the sound of
engines. This gives you a feeling of what it is like to be where they are. This sets the scene for this
moment; the camera comes onto a troop carrier, the camera

Charles Lutwidge Dodgson
In Daresbury in 1832, Charles Lutwidge Dodgson, or better know as Lewis Carroll was born. He grew
up with several younger siblings who he told stories to, one of those being Alice in Wonderland . This
beautifully written story is about a ten year old girl named Alice who falls down a rabbit s hole into a
colorful world full of mad characters called Wonderland. England in 1865 has become part of the
victorian time period and along with it came many traits that set it apart. Throughout the piece, Carroll
challenges many traits of England s society and turns them into something that made this story so
unforgettable. Victorian etiquette, education for children, government, and drugs are just some of the
things Carroll brings in from his time period ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At the very ending of the book, the King and Queen of Hearts make everyone attend court over the
case of the missing tarts. Alice thought everything seemed very official with the jury box that held all
of the jurors with their slates, and the king as the judge with his white wig on. Eventually, Alice
discovers that the jury is writing the words Stupid things on their slates, and one of them does not
even spell the word stupid correctly (130 Carroll). This continues on with the witnesses, but between
every break the king calls for the verdict of the jury. This does relate to the time period because it was
rumored that when it came to the court system in the 1800 s, the witnesses never really mattered to the
judge. This rumor was reflected onto the King of Heart s character. Throughout the court case, Alice
begins to openly announce her thoughts to the courtroom. She criticizes the queen s decision to make
the sentence before the verdict, Stuff and nonsense! The idea of having the sentence first! (146). It is
thought that the Queen of Hearts actually symbolizes a real queen of England. Queen Margaret of
Anjou ruled from 1445 to 1461, and then again from 1470 to 1471. She was married to King Henry
VII and she had a son named Edward. She fought for the house of Lancaster which has a red rose for
its family name (Margaret). This does connect to the Queen of Hearts when her servants had to paint
the roses red. Why, the fact is, you see, Miss, this here ought to have been a red rose tree, and we put a
white one in by mistake; and, it the Queen was to find it out, we should all have our heads cut off, you
know. (90). The white roses were the symbol for the house of York, these two houses fought for the
right to the English throne in the War of the Roses. In the end of Queen Margaret s reign, her son was
killed by getting his head cut off, which is

people to realize in the violence and horror they live. Jenaro Villamil starts off the poem with the line
¿Cuánto horror seremos capaces de conocer? (1), which translates to, how much horror will we be
capable of knowing?, this expresses how much horror they have already experienced. This source
doesn t include any specific facts or dates about the tragedy, because it is a poem, but it does introduce
how the students are seen by Mexico, as young humble victims. The lines that I was more impacted by

acceleration to a rushing 75 miles per hour to prevent the car from cutting us off. The car continued to

Maximilien Robespierre And The French Revolution
The French Revolution was a time of civil war in France that was filled with the shed blood of many
for one cause, to create a democratic government. An important figure that dominated the Committee
of Public Safety, a political body that took control of France during the Reign of Terror, was a man
named Maximilien Robespierre.
Robespierre was born the son of a lawyer in Arras, France on May 6, 1758, but during Maximilien s
childhood his siblings and him were raised by their maternal grandparents because Robespierre s
mother s death brought extreme sadness to his father, which resulted in his absence in his children s
life. In 1765, he attended the college of the Oratorians, and four years later he received the scholarship
to attend the most famous college at the time called Louis le Grand in Paris. It was at this
distinguished college that Robespierre found himself fascinated with philosophy and law, and
Maximilien was given his law degree in 1781. Not long after he became a lawyers at Arras, his
childhood city.
Maximilien Robespierre was soon a well known name in the world of legal actions and lawyers, so he
was appointed to be a judge at the Salle Episcopale, which gave him a very profitable income.
Robespierre was now known as a wealthy man of France, and this plays an important part in his role
in the French Revolution. Soon he was admitted into the Arras Academy becoming its chancellor and
later the president.

Unmanned Aircraft Systems ( Uas )
Unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) have become a quickly growing part of the aviation community
over the last five to ten years. More and more of these aircraft are flying in the National Airspace
System (NAS) with each passing year, without any set rules governing their operation. With the
growing population of UAS in the NAS, for military, civil, and commercial use, the need for
regulation is becoming increasingly obvious. How to regulate this type of aircraft is no simple task.
Taking into consideration the many factors of these aircraft such as size, purpose, who is using them,
and location of use, it is difficult to determine what regulation is required. That is the task that has
been set before the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). To determine what type of regulation is
needed to integrate and ensure the safe operation of UAS in the NAS since the skies that they share
are shared with manned aircraft. Integration of UAS into the NAS
Since the first flight of Orville and Wilbur Wright s aircraft at Kitty Hawk, the development of new
aircraft types and technology in these and existing aircraft has moved along at a quick and steady
pace. Moreover, since 1903, aircraft limits continually have been pushed and surpassed. Aircraft now
fly higher, faster, farther and carry more cargo or passengers than ever before. Nevertheless, it would
only seem logical the next step in aviation evolution is removal of the human factor in flight.

Harry s Case Summary
Harry s Case Story: Description of Context in Clinical Decision making
Clinical decisions are influenced by surrounding environment or context. According to Gillespi
Peterson (2009), there are three contexts in the situated clinical decision making framework, which are
as follows: micro, meso and macro. In Harry s case story, firstly, micro level context included nurse s
experience and the relationship of the nurse with Harry and his family. Nurse s experience focused her
to make effective clinical decisions for Harry. In addition, trustworthy relationship with Harry and his
family encouraged them to share personal information with the nurse, which helped the nurse to
collect appropriate data and to understand Harry s and his family s needs to provide client centered
care. Secondly, the meso level context includes the influence of health care agency s policies and
philosophy on clinical decision making. In Harry s case, it was evident that the practice of family
centered care was followed because the family was involved in each decision related to Harry s

Public Health Authorities Need to Conduct Public Health...
Module 1 Assignment
Please answer below two questions, using an essay format.
Question 1 Using HIV/AIDS as an example to discuss why public health authorities need to conduct
public health surveillance and to describe how surveillance system is managed in Australia (9 marks)
(Up to 800 words)
Public health surveillance is defined as the ongoing systematic collection, collation, analysis and
interpretation of outcome specific data for public health purposes, closely integrated with the timely
dissemination of public health information for assessment and public health response for preventing
and controlling disease as necessary (Thacker Stroup; Thacker et al.1994; World Health Assembly,
2005). The surveillance method used for Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS) and human
Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) infections in Australia is similar to these methods used for other
diseases, aiming at reducing high risk behaviors, lowering the incidence of transmission and infection.
Firstly, the surveillance system for HIV/AIDS draws a unique epidemiological picture of magnitude
and trends in the prevalence of infection, resource allocation, targeted groups and risk behavior over
time. It describes the pattern of transmission of HIV/AIDS, viral hepatitis, and other specific sexually
transmissible infections. Secondly, It monitors an information cycle for collection and exchange

Capitalism In The Great Gatsby And The Grapes Of Wrath
In America, most of our parents at a very early age that we should be grateful for what we have. Even
with these teachings Americans are finding it hard to do just that. American Capitalism is built off of
the concept that anybody can buy property, open a practice/start a business, and profit off of it. One
thing that both The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald and The Grapes of Wrath by John Steinbeck
teach us is that the system of American capitalism isn t perfect. Both of these books show both sides
of capitalism, those who make it and those who don t. In both books the rich are ignoring the bad
things they inflict on the poor because it makes them richer and more powerful. As Rick Danko said,
As time goes on we get closer to that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
America has been a superpower for about one hundred and ten years. Is it not a coincidence that about
one hundred and ten years ago we as a country started to fully adopt capitalism? Around that time also
America started expanding. Manifest Destiny and expanding our colonial borders were only able to
happen because of the mass amounts of material items we had and the use/income they provided. It is
still one of the reasons why we re still a global superpower and are home to the best living conditions
in the history of mankind. Our poor today still have more money than the poor people in
underdeveloped countries. Even though capitalism is great and had benefitted the American people in
many ways, not everybody has been a winner of the system. No system can be perfect which is why
governments have to learn to adapt and react to situations. Sometimes the government willingly
neglects certain people, or just doesn t know that they haven t adapted well. For instance, segregation
and the Great Depression. In the case of segregation the government willingly allowed itself to
constantly cut down

Christian Truths in the Screwtape Lettters by C.S. Lewis...
The Screwtape Letters by C.S. Lewis is a book of thirty one letters in which a retired, senior demon
named Screwtape coaches his newly educated nephew, Wormwood. Wormwood is quite troubled
when it comes to tempting his patient. Nevertheless, he need not fear because faithful uncle Screwtape
has offered his services. A unique character featured in the letters is, The Enemy. This character refers
to God, the natural enemy of Satan. Of course Satan is referred to as Our Lord. In the letters, and
Wormwood and Screwtape try their very best to please Satan and bring him glory. Although the book
is written from the demons perspective, Lewis naturally uses it to highlight important truths of the
Christian faith. The patient or the human ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
...Our cause is never more in danger than when a human, no longer desiring but still intending to do
our enemies will, looks round a universe from which every trace of him seems to have vanished, and
ask why he has been forsaken and still obeys (Lewis, 39). What truths are you looking at if you have
never come to know that truths of the Christian faith? Clearly the entire story s focal point is demonic,
literally. Joanie Riche writes, It has helped me gain an understanding of how he forces of darkness try
to undermine joy and truth (Riche). That is exactly what the dangerous duo is trying to prove. That
they can push this poor human to such limits that he/she will forget that God ever played a positive
factor in their lives. These are real things that happen to people. Once devout believers suffer a trial
then suddenly and all together, the mere thought of the gospel is ridiculous. It is a harrowing truth.
Many people are raised to be unbelievers. It does not matter to these devils, they are going to hell
either way. In contrast, the Enemy holds a prominent position in the novel whether evident to most or
not. No temptation has overcome you that is not common to man, God is faithful, and He will not let
you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation He will also provide a way of escape that
you may be able to endure it. (1 Corinthians 10:13). Screwtape often tells that the Enemy

Reasons For The Fall Of Rasputin
In 1917, the Russian Empire collapsed after a long reign of almost 300 years. The effects of World
War I are said to have been the reason for the collapse of the once powerful dynasty. However, was
Gregori Rasputin the primary reason for the fall? The question that was once whispered on thousands
of Russians lips is still asked today. Who was Rasputin? Gregori Rasputin was a Siberian peasant who
not only intrigued everyone by his bushy beard and piercing cold blue eyes, but by his mystic holy
powers he claimed to have. He believed that God had given him a gift for healing as during his
childhood, he almost died. Despite these claims, at a young age Rasputin had already acquired a
reputation for debauchery and his birth name was changed from Grigori Yefimovich Novykh to
Gregori Yefmovich Rasputin. Rasputin meaning debauched one in Russian. However, Rasputin went
through a religious conversion at the age of 18 as he embraced the Khlysty sect. Rasputin was happy
with this sect as it preached that prolonged sexual engagements were the best way to achieve the
closest relationship with God. But how did a sexually promiscuous peasant end up in the extremely
powerful Russian government? After marrying at age 19 and having 4 ... Show more content on

But what was it that the citizens of Russia despised so much about Rasputin? Rasputin was viewed by
many as a puppet master that controlled the Tsar and Tsarina. This image of Rasputin was widely used
by the political opponents of the Tsar s to show his lack of authority and his wife s incompetence. The
staunchest supports of Tsardom even found it hard to defend a system which allowed their country,
that was in its greatest trial, to be under the control of a debauched monk . People merely saw
Rasputin as a man who brought scandal to the royal family, made Tsar Nicholas break his own
October Manifesto and influence important decisions in World War

Mattel Barbie State of Depression
Mattel
Barbie s state of depression
OVERVIEW
Mattel, the largest toy company based on revenues, is the manufacturer of Barbie, Hot Wheels,
Matchbox cars and board games. Barbie dolls (Mattel s flagship brand) were introduced in 1959. With
these dolls attracting 7 to 12 year old girls, different varieties of Barbie dolls were released into the toy
market. Mattel dominated the toy market till the late 1990s. But in 2001, when MGM s Bratz dolls
were introduced, the realistic look of these dolls attracted girls and they started abandoning Barbie
dolls. Now Barbie faces stiff competition not only from Bratz but from Mattel s own American Girl.
Between 2001 and 2004, Barbie sales fell by 27.5% due to stiff competition from Bratz. MGM ...

Mattel turns 64 this year, with much of that time spent at the forefront of the toy industry which built
brand recognition: in Mattel s case, this is a positive thing. The brand remains very popular among
customers.
This long history has also allowed sufficient time to develop effective marketing strategies. This
includes an integrated focus on the customer. One of the most significant ways this is accomplished is
through market research in an attempt to satisfy the market s wants by releasing new products
annually. Mattel also follows a code of ethics, as well as requiring ethical actions of their suppliers.
Finally, Mattel contributes to the communities in which it operates, particularly to causes benefiting
children. It makes it very easy for stakeholders to support a company that will reciprocate the support.

Keny A National Leader Of National Unity
Chapter Two
The Kenyan Cases in Perspective
2.1 Background and context
The 2007 general elections in Kenya was a watershed event in the history of the country.
Unprecedented violence broke out in many parts of the country immediately Mwai Kibaki of the Party
of National Unity (PNU) was declared the winner of the presidential poll and sworn in on 30th
December 2007. The violence escalated as the leader of Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), Raila
Odinga, immediately rejected the outcome of the poll. Such violence had never occurred in Kenya
before and it had devastating consequences. The violence, commonly referred to as Post Election
Violence (PEV), continued for the next 14 days after Kibaki was declared the winner and according to
the Commission of Inquiry into Post Election Violence report (CIPEV or WAKI report), it led to 1,133
deaths, rape of approximately 3,000 women, severe injuries to 3,561 persons, massive destruction of
both government and private property and displacement of over 300,000 people. Kenya had not
experienced violence of such gravity before as previous ethnic clashes documented by the Akiwumi
Commission which was commissioned in 1998 and the report released in 2002.
Although declaration of Kibaki as the duly elected president is what sparked the violence, Waki report
and other agencies examined deep seated issues which played a central role in causing the violence
and these include; first is the culture of impunity in the country and politicization of

Camus Philosophical View Of Absurdism In Meursault s The...
The Stranger reflects Camus philosophical stance as an absurdist. There is no logical meaning to life,
there is no higher order or law governing it or people, and there is no rational explanation to the chaos
as according to The Stranger. There is no truth no certainty nor any unwavering non relative laws in
life and there is no sense in pursuing such impossibilities. This is shown through camus s main
character Meursault. No opening sentences of the novel and body somersaults absurdist outlook on
life, his emotional indifference and detachment to people, and his passive be quiet alienation from the
rest of society. he doesn t even know which day his mother died and to him it, doesn t mean anything
anyway. Throughout this novel camus ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The reality came to him after he had a conversation with the chaplain who seemed to play the game
way too well. the chaplain new the game well too, I could tell right away: His gaze never faltered. And
this voice didn t falter either when he said have you no hope at all? And do you really live with the
thought that when you die you die and nothing remains? Yes I said. (Camus 117). Those who don t
play the game don t win. the trial is not about Justice for the Arab the murder victim but the people
playing the roles set out in the unwritten rules of the game.
Camus Philosophical thought on absurdism is not shown throughout this novel. Though camus does
not explicitly refer to the notion of absurdity, the events of absurdity operate within the novel. Neither
the external World in which Meursault lives nor the internal world of his thoughts possesses any
rational order. Meursault has no discernible reason for his actions, such as his decision to marry Marie
or his decision to kill the Arab. For the first time baby, I really thought I was going to get married.
(50). This quotation shows the true unpredictability of this novel, and with that it shows how life can
be so absurd. Though the stranger is a work of fiction, it contains a strong sense of camus
philosophical notion of absurdity. Though critics still argue that absurdism is essentially meaningless
because acceptance of it entails life without meaning. This,

  • 2. The Golden Ass Apuleius wrote the Golden Ass during the Second Century A.D. In it he talked about many complex allegorical contexts and layers of meaning pertaining to varying religious practices. He was able to do this by essentially switching back and forth between side stories which might or might not intertwine with the overall story. The religion of Isis was predominant in comparing the other lesser known or rather inferior religions of the time such as Christianity. It seems as if Isis was praised in a way that would grant her saint like qualities. Many things were considered important surrounding this including dreams and the recounting of them to priests, as well as snakes associated with Aesculapius and the healing procedures associated with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There also is a misogynistic view of women throughout the book and their almost inescapable correlation with magic and practices used essentially for evil. The story of Thelyphron discusses this correlation, with women being the center of the story as well as the themes of magic and the occult. Traditional religion of the day gave high regard and respect for the dead, more than the living in most cases, and as such stringent funeral rites and burial procedures were hence followed to ensure proper passage of the soul or reincarnation depending on what path you specifically may take. Hence in this story, when it comes to mutilating the body of Thelyphron, instead of treating it as an unthinkable crime, it only elicits laughter from the crowd. This act shows a shift in the story where ridicule and public humiliation play an essential role in demeaning the rights of citizens and legal condemnation is put into a clearer context. Public condemnation was also shown in the story of Aristomenes when he was scared in being falsely accused of Socrates murder, driving him into hiding. This theme also carries onto the trial of Lucius, which apparently turns out to be nothing more than an elaborate, and decidedly cruel, practical joke. The repeated fear of condemnation and subsequent absolution are evident throughout the story because this umbrella of fear kept control on peoples actions, and maybe in a way were also the fears and insecurities ... • 3. Recent Medical Discoveries Of Fibrodysplasia Ossificans... Recent Medical Discoveries In Fibrodysplasia Ossificans Progressiva Disease Abstract Fibrodysplasia Ossificans Progressiva disease also known as FOP is a rare genetic disease of the connective tissue. FOP can be characterized by malformations of the big toe. This malformation is a characteristic feature that helps distinguish the disease from other muscle and bone issues. It is a disease that is caused by a mutation in the bodies repair mechanism. This causes muscle and connective tissue such as ligaments and tendons, to be ossified spontaneously or when they are damaged. Sometimes the bone can be permanently frozen in place in some cases. FOP is usually seen in early childhood it starts with the neck and shoulder and proceeds down the body and into the limbs. People who suffer from FOP are basically imprisoned by their own skeleton. Majority of FOP cases are sporadic and are a result from a new gene mutation (Lerardi Curto and Lynne). This mutation is an autosomal dominant disorder; this means it affects those who are heterozygous with a homozygous recessive partner because of this it means their children will have a fifty percent chance of having FOP. Most cases of FOP are a result from new mutations in the gene. People who have FOP and have the heterozygous phenotype have less severe affects than those who have the homozygous dominant phenotype. Patients who have FOB have the ossification gene that is still working in their bodies and it is usually turned off after a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 8. The Terror Known as Robespierre Robespierre was one of the most significant men throughout the period of the French Revolution; he had such an immense amount of power that he was able to have rivals of the revolution put to death. Robespierre s power came from his joining of the Committee of Public Safety (CSP), whose original job was to deal with diplomacy and warfare with foreign enemies; though under Robespierre s power, the CSP became a part of the government which dealt with internal policing, which got in the way of the jurisdiction of the Committee of General Security (CSG). The job of the CSG was to remove and discipline enemies of the revolution, though they ended up competing with the CSP for power over this matter. With this influence from his place in the CSP, he climbed a social ladder to becoming both extremely influential as well as difficult to remove from control. Despite the fact that Robespierre held a great deal of power, his authority eventually declined and led to his death: while working within the CSP, he ordered countless individuals to be guillotined whether or not people on the outside of the conflict viewed them as deserving of such punishment: in one instance, he put to death several people that he viewed as anti revolutionary: Georges Jacques Danton, Lucie Simplice Desmoulins, Jean François Delacroix, and Pierre Philippeaux. • 11. My Purpose Of Art PAINTING When you re afraid of making mistakes, but do so anyway... when you allow yourself time to fix those mistakes that is when you succeed. I use art as a form of escape. At least, that was its initial purpose. It didn t matter that I wasn t good (because I was, like, 5). Art made me happy and so I simply continued to make it. I took every art course that my school allowed me to and the few years when they didn t offer one were torture for my small self. Years later, with permission from my art instructor, I skipped an art course and took AP Studio Art (a senior class) during my junior year. This was the first time that I had the freedom to create whatever I wanted whenever I wanted. My artistry improved drastically alongside my enthusiasm for learning new skills. I went from drawing with pencil to painting with acrylics and watercolors, drawing digitally, sculpting, and even making jewelry. It was like I discovered my passion all over again. Art started to become something more to me, and soon I had dreams of becoming an artist. However, it wasn t until I went to Kansas City Art Institute (KCAI) over the summer before my senior year that I truly grasped the struggle of becoming an artist. Throughout my whole life, I only thought of art as a necessity; I needed it to stay calm, happy, and organized. But in just three weeks, I realized that the fundamentals of art posed questions that, to me, were on the scale of dinosaurs, aliens, Greek mythology, and even ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

These kinds of institutions are difficult to regulate because countries cannot impose reserve requirements on its own banks overseas branches (Grittersova, 15). According to Singer, regulators enact tighter capital requirements without the explicit intervention of congress. As banks assumed more and more risk, regulators responded by imposing greater capital requirements without the explicit intervention of congress (Singer, 49). This makes it difficult for the international banking to have restriction on the bank examinations, capital requirements, and assets. Internationally, the safety net main purpose is to establish an international standard that will minimize the power of the regulators and protect the consumers that are within the jurisdiction. Because of the existence of contagion there has been an important institution that has intervened as a disciplined which is the international lender of last resort (189). (n.d.) As the gypsies continued to settle in and live freely, flamenco became a significant musical genre in Andalucia and it became well known for entertainment in the cafés cantates (singing cabarets) built in different cities. Even early Paleolithic humans worked in groups where some form of discipline would be necessary. Different methods and goals of discipline have been observed over time. The differences are due to varying military and political needs. The Roman army used discipline for advanced strategy in warfare as well as state expansion. Discipline enabled the fighters to be able to focus on a mission and execute it swiftly and covertly. Also, the eventual goal in this conflict was to develop a conventional army. Guerrilla warfare was a defensive battle. It was nigh impossible to capture strategic points from the enemy. Developing a conventional army would let resistive forces capture new territory and forcibly push out the enemy. Another example of this energy is for a shot putter. Eventually, Alice discovers that the jury is writing the words Stupid things on their slates, and one of them does not even spell the word stupid correctly (130 Carroll). This continues on with the witnesses, but between every break the king calls for the verdict of the jury. This does relate to the time period because it was rumored that when it came to the court system in the 1800 s, the witnesses never really mattered to the judge. This rumor was reflected onto the King of Heart s character. Throughout the court case, Alice begins to openly announce her thoughts to the courtroom. She criticizes the queen s decision to make the sentence before the verdict, Stuff and nonsense! The idea of having the sentence first! (146). It is thought that the Queen of Hearts actually symbolizes a real queen of England. Queen Margaret of Anjou ruled from 1445 to 1461, and then again from 1470 to 1471. She was married to King Henry VII and she had a son named Edward. She fought for the house of Lancaster which has a red rose for its family name (Margaret). • 37. High School Swimming Personal Statement People need self motivation to succeed because not every problem can be solved by others, some have to be solved by oneself. When conflicts arise, individuals need to seek out the path of best fit to conquer the issue at hand. Throughout my entire childhood, I aspired to be a great swimmer. When I was a young adolescent, my favorite sport to watch during the Olympics was swimming. How could someone move so fast through the water? The extremely close races and extraordinary comebacks always excited me. I wanted experience the thrill for myself. The journey of competitive swimming started at the age of eight for my local `neighborhood team. I exhibited great potential for the future, for I won nearly all my races. These new skills were taken out of the pool as I started stretching every morning to relax my body for the day and taking a short or extended periods of time to meditate on my own; henceforth, the attacks became less frequent after I began this routine. Eventually, as my high school career began, I no longer experienced the hyperventilation attacks. This routine has been an asset to my successful high school swimming career and has even spread to some of my other teammates who have started their own styles of pre race meditation. Most of the other swimmers have found respect for my routine as they do not bother me during this ritual because they know it will help me succeed. The whole experience has shown me that some things in life, including your own failures, can only be fixed or achieved by your own personal goals and your own personal drive. It has helped me become more independent and to not sit back and let others do the work for me. It has given me self motivation. Some obstacles cannot always be conquered by the assistance of others, but by your own motivation to defeat those hardships. You need to find yourself to succeed from ... • 38. Capitalism In The Great Gatsby And The Grapes Of Wrath In America, most of our parents at a very early age that we should be grateful for what we have. Even with these teachings Americans are finding it hard to do just that. American Capitalism is built off of the concept that anybody can buy property, open a practice/start a business, and profit off of it. One thing that both The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald and The Grapes of Wrath by John Steinbeck teach us is that the system of American capitalism isn t perfect. Both of these books show both sides of capitalism, those who make it and those who don t. In both books the rich are ignoring the bad things they inflict on the poor because it makes them richer and more powerful. As Rick Danko said, As time goes on we get closer to that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... America has been a superpower for about one hundred and ten years. Is it not a coincidence that about one hundred and ten years ago we as a country started to fully adopt capitalism? Around that time also America started expanding. Manifest Destiny and expanding our colonial borders were only able to happen because of the mass amounts of material items we had and the use/income they provided. It is still one of the reasons why we re still a global superpower and are home to the best living conditions in the history of mankind. Our poor today still have more money than the poor people in underdeveloped countries. Even though capitalism is great and had benefitted the American people in many ways, not everybody has been a winner of the system. No system can be perfect which is why governments have to learn to adapt and react to situations. Sometimes the government willingly neglects certain people, or just doesn t know that they haven t adapted well. For instance, segregation and the Great Depression. What truths are you looking at if you have never come to know that truths of the Christian faith? Clearly the entire story s focal point is demonic, literally. Joanie Riche writes, It has helped me gain an understanding of how he forces of darkness try to undermine joy and truth (Riche). That is exactly what the dangerous duo is trying to prove. That they can push this poor human to such limits that he/she will forget that God ever played a positive factor in their lives. These are real things that happen to people. Once devout believers suffer a trial then suddenly and all together, the mere thought of the gospel is ridiculous. It is a harrowing truth. Many people are raised to be unbelievers. It does not matter to these devils, they are going to hell either way. In contrast, the Enemy holds a prominent position in the novel whether evident to most or not. No temptation has overcome you that is not common to man, God is faithful, and He will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation He will also provide a way of escape that you may be able to endure it. The effects of World War I are said to have been the reason for the collapse of the once powerful dynasty. However, was Gregori Rasputin the primary reason for the fall? The question that was once whispered on thousands of Russians lips is still asked today. Who was Rasputin? Gregori Rasputin was a Siberian peasant who not only intrigued everyone by his bushy beard and piercing cold blue eyes, but by his mystic holy powers he claimed to have. He believed that God had given him a gift for healing as during his childhood, he almost died. Despite these claims, at a young age Rasputin had already acquired a reputation for debauchery and his birth name was changed from Grigori Yefimovich Novykh to Gregori Yefmovich Rasputin. Rasputin meaning debauched one in Russian. However, Rasputin went through a religious conversion at the age of 18 as he embraced the Khlysty sect. The staunchest supports of Tsardom even found it hard to defend a system which allowed their country, that was in its greatest trial, to be under the control of a debauched monk . • 42. Keny A National Leader Of National Unity Chapter Two The Kenyan Cases in Perspective 2.1 Background and context The 2007 general elections in Kenya was a watershed event in the history of the country. Unprecedented violence broke out in many parts of the country immediately Mwai Kibaki of the Party of National Unity (PNU) was declared the winner of the presidential poll and sworn in on 30th December 2007. The violence escalated as the leader of Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), Raila Odinga, immediately rejected the outcome of the poll. Such violence had never occurred in Kenya before and it had devastating consequences. The violence, commonly referred to as Post Election Violence (PEV), continued for the next 14 days after Kibaki was declared the winner and according to the Commission of Inquiry into Post Election Violence report (CIPEV or WAKI report), it led to 1,133 deaths, rape of approximately 3,000 women, severe injuries to 3,561 persons, massive destruction of both government and private property and displacement of over 300,000 people. • 43. Camus Philosophical View Of Absurdism In Meursault s The... The Stranger reflects Camus philosophical stance as an absurdist. There is no logical meaning to life, there is no higher order or law governing it or people, and there is no rational explanation to the chaos as according to The Stranger. There is no truth no certainty nor any unwavering non relative laws in life and there is no sense in pursuing such impossibilities. This is shown through camus s main character Meursault. No opening sentences of the novel and body somersaults absurdist outlook on life, his emotional indifference and detachment to people, and his passive be quiet alienation from the rest of society. he doesn t even know which day his mother died and to him it, doesn t mean anything anyway. And this voice didn t falter either when he said have you no hope at all? And do you really live with the thought that when you die you die and nothing remains? Yes I said. (Camus 117). Those who don t play the game don t win. the trial is not about Justice for the Arab the murder victim but the people playing the roles set out in the unwritten rules of the game. Camus Philosophical thought on absurdism is not shown throughout this novel. Though camus does not explicitly refer to the notion of absurdity, the events of absurdity operate within the novel. Neither the external World in which Meursault lives nor the internal world of his thoughts possesses any rational order. Meursault has no discernible reason for his actions, such as his decision to marry Marie or his decision to kill the Arab. For the first time baby, I really thought I was going to get married. (50). This quotation shows the true unpredictability of this novel, and with that it shows how life can be so absurd. Though the stranger is a work of fiction, it contains a strong sense of camus philosophical notion of absurdity. Though critics still argue that absurdism is essentially meaningless because acceptance of it entails life without meaning. This, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
