Objective(s):
To evaluate the influences of aqueous extracts of plant parts (stem, leaves, and root) of Portulaca oleracea L. on bioformation of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs).
Materials and Methods:
Synthesis of silver nanoparticles by different plant part extracts of Portulaca oleracea L. was carried out and formation of nanoparticles were confirmed and evaluated using UV-Visible spectroscopy and AFM.
Results:
The plant extracts exposed with silver nitrate showed gradual change in color of the extract from yellow to dark brown. Different silver nanoperticles were formed using extracts of different plant parts.
Conclusion:
It seems that the plant parts differ in their ability to act as a reducing and capping agent.
High throughput phenotyping are fully automated facilities in greenhouses or growth chambers with robotics, precise environmental control, and remote sensing techniques to assess plant growth and performance

A method is presented for monitoring light/dark plant cycles based on the excitation and sensing of thickness resonances on the leaves, where the frequency-transmittance output curves show a clearly inverse relationship with the light intensity the plant receives. This is due to the variations induced in the plant activity (evapotranspiration) as response to variations in the light intensity. As a proof of concept, the technique has been applied to different plant types (monocots/dicots and deciduous/evergreen), different species, and genetically identical plants of the same species but grown under different environmental conditions.

Rapid Prediction of Extractives and Polyphenolic Contents in Pinus caribaea B...Waqas Tariq
The potential of near infrared reflectance spectroscopy (NIRS) for rapidly and accurately determining the extractives and polyphenol contents in Pinus caribaea bark extracts was assessed. Pinus caribaea bark samples were obtained from 110 trees in plantation stands at different locations of Ghana and were then scanned by NIRS. Their extractives and polyphenol contents reference values were obtained by TAPPI T204 om-88 and Folin-Ciocalteu methods respectively. These reference values were regressed against different spectral transformations using partial least square (PLS) regression. First derivative transformation equation of the raw spectral data, resulted in a coefficient of determination r2 in the external validation of 0.91 and 0.97 respectively for extractives content and polyphenol content. The calibration samples covered a wide range of extractives content from 34 – 45% and polyphenolic content from 16 – 23.5%. The standard deviation to root mean square error of cross validation ratio (SD/RMSECV), root mean square error of calibration to standard deviation ratio (RMSEC/SD), RMSECV/RMSEC and r2 for both extractives and polyphenol models were indicative of good prediction equations. The predicted values were thus highly correlated with time-consuming wet chemical measured values of extractives content and polyphenol content. The use of NIRS for the determination of the extractives and polyphenol contents in Pinus caribaea bark thus provides an advantage of time saving and cost of analysis.

The aim of this investigatation is to compare the utility of machine learning algorithms in distinguishing between untreated and processed mint beside in predicting the spray day of the insecticide. Within seven days, mint treated samples with the malathion insecticide are collected, and their aromas are Studied using a laboratory-manufactured sensor array system based on commercial metallic semiconductor (MOS) gas sensors. To distinguish the mint type, some results of machine learning algorithms were compared to know the decision trees (DT), Naive Bayes, support vector machines (SVM), and ensemble classifier. Furthermore, to predict the treatment day support vector machines regression (SVMR) and partial least squares regression (PLSR) were compared. Regarding the best results, in the discrimination case, a success rate of 92.9% was achieved by the ensemble classifier while in the prediction case, a correlation coefficient of R=0.82 was reached by the SVMR. Good results are achieved if the right gas sensor array system is designed and realized coupled with a good choice of the appropriate machine learning algorithms.

Near and mid-infrared spectroscopic determination of algal compositionzhenhua82
The objective of this study was to evaluate whether near-infrared reflectance spectroscopy (NIRS) or mid-infrared reflectance spectroscopy (MIRS) could be used to determine the composition of algal turf scrubber samples. We assayed a set of algal turf scrubber (ATS) samples (n = 117) by NIRS, MIRS, and conventional means for ash, total sugar, mono-sugar, total N, and P content. A subset of these samples (n = 64) were assayed by conventional means, MIRS, and NIRS for total lipid and total fatty acid content. We developed calibrations using all the samples and a one-out cross-validation procedure under partial least-squares regression. This process was repeated using 75% of randomly selected samples to develop the calibration and the remaining samples as an independent test set. Results using the entire sample set demonstrated that NIRS and MIRS can accurately determine ash (r (2) = 0.994 and 0.995, respectively) and total N (r (2) = 0.787 and 0.820, respectively) content, but not phosphorus, total sugar, or mono-sugar content in ATS samples. Results using the 64 sample subset indicated that neither NIRS nor MIRS can accurately determine lipid or total fatty acid content in ATS samples.

Compared to traditional methods such as wet chemistry and chromatographic methods, NIR spectroscopy provides considerable advantages in process and quality control applications through fundamental benefits such as low to no cost of consumables such as solvents, columns, reagents; real time analysis - generally less than 10 seconds measurement time; multiple components per analysis; elimination of sample preparation time; and elimination of many sources of systematic error.
